Starting point is 00:02:41 Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-2802287. The guys are at KS Bar. You can come in all day. We've had the Mark Pope Energy, Shannon, has helped the KS Bar energy. We've had a huge couple weeks, which we needed after losing to Oakland in the first round. So thank you to all the folks that have come by. Hopefully that continues throughout the year.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Go ahead. You say that as they set down the new frozen Mark Areta in front of me and Ryan. Yes. We just made just minutes ago. As you said that, Brett was putting them down in front of us. The Mark. All right, send me a picture of the Markeritas. I like it.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Okay. I do. Also, real quick company meeting on the air. What do you think about Pope ice cream here? Does that play with the old cow ice cream, or is that not a pun? I don't know what you mean. Poop ice cream, Pope ice cream. I don't think you as we're doing this.
Starting point is 00:03:35 To me, when you eat, I don't think you want to think about poop. Okay, I'm just trying. No, I like all, no ideas or bad ideas. So we've got the, he just brought another one. It's the Mark Arita, a blue margarita for Mark Stoops. Now we've got the, just the regular Markerita, the Mark Stoom's. Why is Mark Stoops is blue? He got, he was here first.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Let's not get too specific. Let's just say Markerreta. You can lump them into one. Just lumped into one mark. To be clear, we already had the Marg stoops. That's not frozen. So, okay. So Markerita is the frozen one.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Perfect. I got a little off track. Yeah. That's why Ryan's not in charge of the copy, Shannon. He's already. Let's not confuse people. Mark, Mark.
Starting point is 00:04:14 See, he's already got me confused. We've had Marg stoops for a while. Mark Stoops. Okay. Now, the frozen one, which we didn't have before, new frozen machine, is the Markeria. Wait, man. We have a frozen machine now?
Starting point is 00:04:26 Well, it's the same machine that has been under repair. Oh, it's always under repair. You can't keep that thing working. I don't know what it is. I have a question for you. Somebody asked me, and this is a good point. Why isn't every car automatic now? Why do we, like a stick seems like, in everything in life, we try to make it easier.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Why don't we just all have automatic car? Like, what's the point of a stick now? Like, Ryan, you have one. Why? I had one when I was a kid, yeah. I don't know why the switch. No, no, I understand why the switch. It's easier if it's automatic.
Starting point is 00:05:02 But why would anyone still drive a stick? What's the advantage? I'm going to say something. This may be totally wrong. I bet it is. I can't wait to hear what it's going to be. But like when you're going up, like if you're in a big, in a field or you're going up a big hill, you need that extra power that you can get by shifting down.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Okay, so extra power. by shifting down? Yeah, like if you're going up a big hill and your engine is bogging down, you can downshift to get a little more power to get up that deal. But every automatic I've ever seen, you have the ability to manually take it out, right? Yes. Yeah, they've got that now. I just don't understand, and I'm sure, listen, I know I sound like an idiot,
Starting point is 00:05:44 but these other three idiots agree with me. What is the reason for still wanting a manual? Like what does it give you that an automatic doesn't? I'm sure it's something, but what is it? Gives you more control maybe over when you switch years? Why would Europe still only want to have sticks? Like why wouldn't they want, wouldn't everybody want an automatic now? Is it better gas mileage?
Starting point is 00:06:09 I have no idea. I understand for like high powered sports cars. I get that. But for like your regular car driving down the road, why wouldn't you just want an automatic now? I think you would. I think that. But Europe doesn't do that. Different culture, I guess, over there.
Starting point is 00:06:26 Okay. I don't know why. Maybe somebody will have the answer. You could ask them when you go over there. I'll just ask everyone. It's the first thing I say to everyone. What's on with you all. All right.
Starting point is 00:06:33 So let's talk real quick about the weekend. UK baseball, one Friday, lost Saturday and Sunday, broke the all-time record for crowd both Friday and Saturday. It was packed all three days. It was an awesome environment. Drew, I know you were there Saturday. They gave a heck of an effort.
Starting point is 00:06:51 Yesterday they lost 13-11. They were up 7 to 2, but then Tennessee came back. Kentucky is still in first place overall in the SEC solo, so that's good. You were there Saturday. What did you think of the environment? The environment was awesome. I had a seat directly next to Tennessee's dugout. I should not have been sitting there, and I was ready to heckle for nine innings,
Starting point is 00:07:13 but then it was 5 to nothing before we could even look up. That took a little bit of the fun out that Kentucky wasn't really in the Saturday game, but overall the experience of just being at the baseball field, I had to park on the complete opposite end of the football stadium just to get there to give you a feel for how the crowd was. It was a great turnout. It just wished the baseball had worked out better in the series, but it's just good to see that park coming alive
Starting point is 00:07:35 ever since last year's running the postseason. I think it's going to stay that way the rest of the year too. Well, I do too. And they are on pace to host if they want. So, or if they're able to keep it for both the regional and the super regional. Ryan, I think for the baseball program, even though they lost two of three, it still was a, I think, a crowning weekend for them. It was incredible. I was there yesterday. They had over 7,000 each game, Friday night, Saturday night Sunday. The crowd was into it.
Starting point is 00:08:07 I mean, it was a phenomenal weekend for UK baseball. And it kind of announcing, I think, everybody, hey, UK, this is not a fluke. These guys are legit, really, really good. And they got a chance to prove it when Arkansas comes back over here in two weeks. All right, here's the answer, Shannon. People are telling me you do get better gas mileage. That's good. Some people are saying they're more fun to drive. I'm going to throw a challenge on that.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Sitting there having to move my hands all the time, I don't think. More control. Okay. Yeah. You believe that? Yeah. Because you're controlling when the gears switch. Somebody also says they're easier to fix than an automatic because there's less things going on.
Starting point is 00:08:47 I don't know what things mean. Well, they got, I don't know what it means on there. Less texting and driving, I'm sure, over there, if you got both hands occupied. That's true. That is a good point. Is it safer, though, if you always have to have one hand on the stick? Now you're driving with one hand all the time. Yeah, but at least your attention, I would think. Your tension, that's an answer for.
Starting point is 00:09:08 It would be on the road and not on your phone, which we have a big problem with here in America. Well, you have to be more engaged when you're driving a stick shift. All right. Well, there's some answers. Drew, I'm back in on the Reds for now. Go good. It's a revolving door over there for you. It's a lot worse than them.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Back in. They won three straight against the Angels. I went on Saturday with a bunch of friends, had a really good time. Ellie De La Cruz is amazing. Are you following Ellie, Drew Ryan? Do you see what he's doing? He's like top 10. He's top 10 in the National League in every stat.
Starting point is 00:09:47 every stat hits, home runs, RBIs, on base percentage, batting average, steals, every stat, Ryan, he's top 10. He is an absolute machine right now, and he's 22 years old. So fun to watch. I mean, I'm not a Reds fan, but I'm an L.A. Daly Cruz fan because he is fun to watch. He can do everything. He's on pace, Shannon, for 50 home runs and 85 stolen bases. That's amazing. Wow.
Starting point is 00:10:14 Now, he won't hit that, but still. They need to lock him down forever. On a lifetime contract, not a lifetime contract. I think it was Saturday. His first four at bats, he walked every time. And then they had this stat. This is an amazing stat. When he gets on base, he scores 66% of the time.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Wow. Yeah, because he turns singles into doubles. He turns them into triples. You know what I mean? Because, well, you're saying he's turning, but I'm saying doubles and trick because he steals bases, right? Right. And he makes the defense so nervous they make. make errors with him because they are trying so hard to throw him out.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Yep. The pitcher has to pay more attention to him over there, so he makes bad pitches. Now, for whatever reason, they had him hit in like seventh all year, which is ridiculous. Now they've moved him up. But Ryan, here's what worries me about the Reds. I went to the game and I looked up at the lineup and seven of the nine guys were hitting 220 or less. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:11:10 It's kind of amazing they have a winning record considering that, right? Yeah, that's got to get better for sure. you're going to try to make a move this to this season. Drew, they have a player that I'm naming the worst player in baseball. The worst. Santiago, well, because we always get one. We always have the worst player. Santiago Espinall.
Starting point is 00:11:33 He's hitting 1-18, and they play him all the time. And Shannon, you would think, well, he's an infielder hitting 1-18. That probably means he's good at infielding. No, he's bad at it. He gets thrown out all the time. I'm not a fan. Shannon, write down Santiago Espinal is the worst.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Yeah, as Drew is about to say, you got one of these every year, so now we have your guy that you hate. I don't hate him. I'm sure he's a nice man, but he's the worst. Well, he's the worst, and he'll probably be down here in Louisville before you know it. He needs to be in Arkansas,
Starting point is 00:12:06 with Cal, okay? Like, he needs to have, we need to have no part of him in the Reds organization. He's awful. I just want to go on. You're trying to send him to the chicken plant already? I know. I'm saying he should play for Cal. Right now, Cal only has Z on the roster. It's the only guy he's got. Throw Espinall. Alan. Go ahead, Alan. Alan. Let's go to Dave. What's up, Dave?
Starting point is 00:12:32 Hey, guys. Can you hear me? Yes. I got to go back from that. I didn't get to two or three weeks ago when you all were talking about the most exciting players in UK history. I just wondered, did anybody mention Dwight Anderson? Yes, they did. That guy could take over a basketball game like nobody who's ever played at UK. The blur. UK was playing Notre Dame on national TV and Al McGuire and all these people that were commentators, they just couldn't believe what this guy could do.
Starting point is 00:13:09 It was just unbelievable. It's just a shame that he wasn't here very long and he was kicked off the team probably for drug use. but if he had stayed, well, yeah, it was pretty common knowledge. But anyway, if he'd have stayed, it would have been amazing. It's just a shame he didn't stay here any longer. Well, I appreciate it. That is a name that comes up quite a bit on the exciting players. 859-28027.
Starting point is 00:13:39 One person writes, Matt, what do you think about our UK baseball team's antics? they're always gyrating, dancing, and wearing pink hats. Do you like it? Well, I love it. But it is quite clear that the other teams, Drew, don't love the way our guys beat their chest and dance and gyrate. I love it. Make baseball fun. But it's clear it makes them kind of a controversial team.
Starting point is 00:14:04 They are, but I love it. I love that our guys are doing it. They've added this new Spider-Man meme when they hit a home run at the plate where all three guys stand there and point at each other, too. like they did that over the weekend. And then I saw Tennessee's coach kind of called out Kentucky for having so much fun. And if I'm not mistaken, weren't they the most obnoxious team ever just a year or two ago? Tennessee, I thought Kentucky took it from Tennessee. They did that the whole Tennessee's coach. And I don't even know who it is. Who's their baseball coach? Shannon, is it Phil Fulmer? Who's their coach? It's the guy with the beard and the hair. I was ready to boo him all day Saturday.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Yeah, where does he get off saying Kentucky's team has too many antics? Their team literally would like do the DX chops during games, Ryan? Like how did they, where do they get off complaining? Yeah, like Drew said, our seats were right through by the Tennessee dugout. They do a lot of the stuff that they were mouthed in Kentucky about. They do the same thing in their dugout, but yeah, Kentucky was, you know, maybe doing a little bit better. I think that's what it is. Kentucky just finds a way to do it better.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Well, Kentucky's- They wore fur coats two years ago in their dugout. They still had fur coat there yesterday. Oh, did they? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, Kentucky makes a lot of sound shamed, like the whole game. Yeah. Like, every time they see a strike and they don't swing, they hit their chest like in Wolf of Wall Street.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Yeah. Like, I guess it's like saying, my bad, I should have swam. I don't know what it is, right? Yeah. The pink hats are becoming a thing. A lot of those in the crowd. A lot of those in the crowd. So what is that?
Starting point is 00:15:36 Why do they have pink hats? I've seen the players wearing them. I don't know the origin of how it started, but I was five steps into the park on Saturday and asked Abby where all these pink hats coming from because there were a lot of them. But we don't know what it's for. Yeah, I don't know where it originated, but the fan base has gotten behind it. So they have pink hats. They all, they get so, the thing I like about him is how happy they are.
Starting point is 00:16:01 Yeah. Like everything they do, you know, I used to have my friend tall, Shannon said he loved volleyball. Because it's the only sport where whether you hit, make a good shot or a bad. bad when everybody gives you a high five. Yeah. Right? Or a free throw in basketball. Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:15 But they do it after every point. And you clap, you know, in volume. That's how UK's baseball team is. Whatever they do, they clap and they're happy. And I like that. I think that's a reflection of Nick Mingyone. You know, that seems like that's his personality. He's always an upbeat guy.
Starting point is 00:16:30 So I think that's probably why the teams like that. And I hope they keep being good the rest of the year. Hey, Major League Baseball is honest. And that mean only one thing. Spring has sprung. And we're here to tell you. you stay healthy and get your body healthy with court physical therapy. They can help you do all the activities you want with no pain.
Starting point is 00:16:48 The physical therapist can help you in your family do the things you love. So shake it off those winter blues and experience the power of physical therapy. Go to court.com. That's kort.com. We'll take a break very back. Welcome back. All right. You know, I like to keep you all up to date, Ryan, on all the Supreme Court things.
Starting point is 00:17:08 Oh, this is my favorite part. of the show we do every year. I'm not going to ask you all to rule. Okay. Because I think this is kind of controversial and I don't want you all to have to take the States. But would you like to know what is the case going on in front of the Supreme Court as we speak right now? I'm ready. Let's hear it. It's an interesting thought exercise. So there's a town in Oregon that has basically made it a crime to spend the night outside in their town to basically be homeless. Okay. Essentially. saying that if you sleep on a public street, it's a crime. So they've arrested somebody for it and they've taken it to the Supreme Court. And so there's two sides of the argument. The city's argument is, look, homeless people staying in an area, congregate, it can hurt businesses, it can be crime, all the things that we know. But then the other side says, if every city or state were to do this, where are these
Starting point is 00:18:09 people supposed to go. You're basically criminalizing their existence. So the Supreme Court is going to decide whether or not a town, and presumably if a town can do it, the state could do it, and presumably the state could do it, the country can do it. Can you criminalize just existing? What do you think? Man, that's tough. Like you said, just the humanity of it, it makes it a tough decision, I think, for anybody to have to make. Yeah, I'm not trying to put you on the spot. But, Shannon, you can see how that would be a tough thing. Because, like, in the city of Louisville, we have homeless in a lot of places.
Starting point is 00:18:48 And you want to help them. And at the same time, you also don't want it to, like, sort of ruin an area. There can be disease. There can be a lot of stuff. But also, it doesn't feel right to criminalize people, Shannon, just for existing. So the law would be you cannot sleep outdoors, correct? That's what you're saying. You cannot.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Yeah, I don't know the same. specifics of the law, but it's something like that. There are exceptions if you own the property so like you could sleep in your yard or something like that. I was about to say no more camping for anybody. No, no, no, no, there are exceptions for, it's basically on a public street or public whatever. I would strike that down. I mean, like you said, some people have nowhere to go. They have no other options. Yeah, I mean, I would just ask the city, what else are they supposed to do? Yeah, I mean, give them a place to go. Then, then you can do it, I guess, if they have an option. What do you think, Drew?
Starting point is 00:19:37 Yeah, I agree with everything you are saying. It's hard to take someone who doesn't have anyone or go home to or have a home to go home to and then you punish them because they had nowhere to go. So I would be against that, even though we do have a growing problem with that that needs to be addressed. I don't think that's the solution. Well, I don't know what the Supreme Court's going to do because the city of Oregon basically banded. I mean, there's some cities where people are getting priced out of their own homes, become homeless, and then you're going to make them a criminal because they can't afford their own home.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Well, that's exactly right. But just to be fair to the counter argument, the counter argument is, well, then what's a city supposed to do? Like, if we, I mean, what are we supposed to do? If we get overrun with homeless, what do we do? And I don't know the answer to that question. But it is kind of a fascinating Ryan issue, and the Supreme Court is deciding it right now.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Does the Constitution basically allow you to punish someone for not having a place to live? Man, that's tough. I can see, like if the homeless are gathering in a business, business community area. You don't want that around, but at the same time, you can't just prevent these people from living. I know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:20:48 So anyway, that's going on right now, just something for, it won't be decided probably until May or June, but just something to let people know. Let's go to DJ. What's up, DJ? Hey, what's up, guys? What's going on? Matt, I work at a local restaurant here in town. It's where we host a lot of recruits, a lot of basketball.
Starting point is 00:21:07 basketball, football players, coaches, they all gather. And I was there on Saturday night. And I've seen Bradshaw, Hugo, Big Z all come in. But when I saw Amari, I was shocked at how big he was. It took me off guard. Really? That guy, yeah. I mean, that guy's a monster.
Starting point is 00:21:26 He's strong, right? Like, he's very muscular. He's very muscular. He's huge. His shoulders are big and just how tall he was. I was surprised at how tall he was. So I'm excited about him. I just wanted to mention too, also, I know you tweeted out that picture of all the coaches,
Starting point is 00:21:41 the football coaches and Mark Pope. And I was watching that whole thing go down. And it was just such an awesome moment. It was just a pure joy moment watching them and introduce each other to everybody. Well, it's like a final. I mean, that's to me what it was. It was like finally. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:58 So for people who don't know, and thank you, PJ. Ryan, a picture got released of the UK football and basketball coaches together. and for me that was like a thank goodness because it's been an open secret the football and basketball coaches at least the head coaches hated each other in the last few years the assistants I think got along but the head coaches it was and the fact that that may finally be over Ryan I think is very positive I loved it I think we all felt the same thing like you just said that a unified front with our coaches we feel like we got a unified front now with our our AD and our basketball coach.
Starting point is 00:22:38 So all that together just makes you feel good about where the programs are right now. Drew, I had a friend tell me that Pope looked at Vince and said, I might need your help recruiting a little bit, which I thought was kind of funny. That's good. That tells me Pope did his homework on how we operate around here, and I hope Vince will step across the athletics hallway and help him out however he needs. It's a long time coming. I mean, it's not a secret.
Starting point is 00:23:04 it. Obviously, the basketball football school comment broke the relationship, but it had been bad, really going back to COVID. I mean, everything about this program changed around COVID, and sometime we'll have that conversation in detail. But one of the things was the basketball and football program. Richard, go ahead, Richard. And, Barry. Yeah, I think, Ryan, you would know that more than me. I mean, I think Michael Moreno, is he the best player in the class from Great Crossing? Malachi.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Malachi. I'm sorry, Malachi. And, of course, Jasper Johnson. Those are the two, right? Those are the two guys that think are the top of the class. I wouldn't say they're as good as, they're different than Reed and Travis. But they're both guys, I think that, yes, could play at Kentucky, Richard. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Larry Bird's Grand. Where does he play, Richard? Well, he's up in a somewhere. I saw him. playing in los Vegas at a A.A. What's his name? What's his name? Well, they don't, they didn't give his name.
Starting point is 00:24:36 They just called him Larry Burns, grandson. All right. Larry Burns' grandson. You don't even have a name. You just call Larry Burns' grandson. Basket by Larry Burns' grandson. All right. Well, thank you, Richard.
Starting point is 00:24:46 I don't know that guy, but. We got to check that story. I think that he looks like Larry Bird, but he's not really his grandson. Oh, is that right? I think. Oh, okay. Well, got me excited. We'll take a break. Be right back.
Starting point is 00:25:01 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Not surprisingly, Shannon, as soon as I bring up that issue, the text machine blows up with people being angry. I didn't even take a side. Yeah, we did. I was just telling you what the issue is.
Starting point is 00:25:25 But let me give you a couple things that are said a lot just to answer. One person says, Matt, I don't think, I think they should be able to say you can't sleep in public spaces. You have to go to a shelter. Okay, but what if there's not a shelter? I don't know if that's true in this town, but there are many towns that don't have homeless shelters. They're not big enough. Right. They're full.
Starting point is 00:25:45 Or they're full. So what about those places? So like, that's the issue. Then one person says, Matt, don't we have a similar law like that in Kentucky that just got passed? Not exactly. The legislature just passed a law, I think, that said no camping. So basically you couldn't set up like a tent. Now that's kind of the same, but not exactly the same.
Starting point is 00:26:11 As I understand it, I think this law in Oregon said you can't sleep, period. So like I do think maybe Ryan there's a little difference between like a camp and just sleeping period. But then there's like the big cities like Los Angeles, they've established like an area. where you can camp and stay. I thought maybe that's where we were headed. Remember when we were in Jacksonville, there was that area that we drove by that basically they just took this big area. But the problem with that, though, and I think this has happened in L.A., is it leads to a lot
Starting point is 00:26:42 of disease because everybody's like in one area like that. So I don't know. I don't think any of it's easy. But I just wanted people to know that this is going on today, Shannon, because I bet you otherwise you wouldn't have done. I did not know. I go to you for all of my court hearings and rulings. Do you do a lot of court hearings?
Starting point is 00:27:05 No, I'm only with you. That's right. One person, well, first of all, the Howie Schwab passed away. I wanted to note Howie Schwab for two reasons. One, Drew, did you watch Stump the Schwab when we were younger? Of course, and I was crushed seeing the news of Howie passing over the weekend. I was a big fan of that show. So Howie Schwab got his start as a stats.
Starting point is 00:27:27 guy to ESPN. He basically created the stat statistics department for ESPN. You know, back before the internet, Ryan, coming up with statistics, you know this in TV wasn't the easiest thing in the world, right? Like you had to have, it wasn't easy. No, there was nowhere to even go until, you know, the internet finally had some sites you could go to, but before that, what would you do? You had a book, a magazine or a book. And Howie Schwab basically helped create those books for ESPN. And he, people at ESPN will tell you the entire statistics and analytics department at ESPN he sort of created. Then he was like Dick Vitow's personal stat guy. Yep.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Ryan, he would go to game by game with Dick and as things were happening, he would feed him stats. So when Vital would say, in seven to last eight games, Kentucky's Brewer, like he would get that from how he, how he Schwab. Then came Stump the Schwab, which was the best TV show drink. Like it was basically for dorky sports fans like me. Here was a guy who was just taken on all comers and sports questions. I loved it. I watched Stuart Scott hosted it. Drew, I watched it every day it was on.
Starting point is 00:28:39 I watched it too, A, because I liked learning the information, but also just because that was a guy that wasn't normally on my TV talking about sports. Yes. You know, he was always an athlete. I just had a dude that looked like he got straight off the couch and just knew everything there was about the game. and I enjoyed watching. You kind of felt like if Schwab was on TV, you could be on TV.
Starting point is 00:28:59 You know what I mean? Like anyone could. Well, I met him many years ago at the Dick Vital where he does his event for cancer and he was there and I met him. And then in the last few years, Shannon, he became a huge fan of OVW. Oh, really? I didn't know that. Yes.
Starting point is 00:29:18 He really liked wrestlers. And he wrote me a long email about how much. he liked it. And then, I don't know if you would notice this, every time I would post anything about OVW, he would respond. He had watched that episode that week. And he got to the point that whether it was Mr. Pectacular, every wrestler cash flow, he would respond to their tweets. And I bet a lot of them, Shannon, didn't even know who he was. Yeah. But this was a former ESPN TV guy, and he was maybe the biggest non-Kentucky OVW fan, Shannon I knew in terms of how much he wrote. I had no idea until this very moment that he was a fan of wrestling.
Starting point is 00:30:00 If you go look at almost any tweet since wrestlers came out, I've written about OVW. Howie Schwab responded to it. You think he had like OVW stats? He watched it every week. He would comment in the Facebook comment section of the thing. No way. I'm serious. Howie Schwab became a huge OVW guy.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Wow. So he passed away and always kind. And Ryan, I just wanted to note, awesome guy. I guess he'd been sick recently and he passed away this week. He changed the way a lot of us look at, I think, some of the stuff that ESPN did at the time. When you had that show, this is just a regular guy that is sitting there,
Starting point is 00:30:39 you know, and when in the past it was always a, you know, a coat and a tie guy. This was just a regular dude. He would wear a uniform. He always would wear like a Chief's uniform or something like. that on the show. So rest in peace to Howie Schwab. T.O. Go ahead, Tio. Hey, boys, God bless each and every one of you today. Love the show. Love that you boys have been carrying us through the storm the last few weeks. Thank you, sir. Got to say, Matt, you're going to have to open up your heart and mind to some of these wilder bluegrass activities. We love boat racing.
Starting point is 00:31:12 We love fireworks. Okay. We love stick shifts. Okay. And you, you ain't lived. until you've seen them drones flying in formation shifting into the red, white, and blue shining in the sky. So you like it, T.O. Oh, I love it. Love it. All right. Butterflies, American flags, every bit of it. Fair enough.
Starting point is 00:31:33 All right. Maybe you're right. Maybe I've got to open up my heart to my inner country guy. You can do it, Matt. I know. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. I like that guy.
Starting point is 00:31:43 Roy, go ahead, Roy. Yeah, talking about a stick ship. I live in Middlesbrough. You know where Greenwood roads at? I do. Okay, that's a very steep road. Yes, it is. It gets ice up here.
Starting point is 00:31:57 I got a four-wheel drive standard ship. I can drive it down that hill on ice in second gear, four-wheel high, and I never have to touch my brake until I get to the stop sign. And as you will know, if you touch your brakes on the curb, you're going to slide. That's true. So maybe that's the reason, Shannon. If you have to drive on Greenwood Road in Middlesbrough, that's why you need a stick.
Starting point is 00:32:18 There you go. Well, there's quite a few roads here. We need them where I come up to one-way street. Yeah. You know where that's at. Yeah. Prospect, all those roads up there. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:31 We get pretty icy up here for some reason, but anyway, not very often. So it really helps. And if you were in Middlesbrough, I could teach you how to drive a stick. Well, I would let you teach me. I feel like you'd be a better teacher than Ryan. have I got a second? I want to tell you one thing to do. Yes.
Starting point is 00:32:50 When you learn how to drive a stick, don't start it, get in it, practice pushing your clutch in and shifting gears to you get comfortable with it, and it'll make it a lot easier. It's like riding a bicycle, clutch out, guys feed down, guys feed off, clutch down, and that's all it is in ship. You're the man. Thank you very much, sir. That's my Whiskey Thief song call of the day right there. Whiskey Thief Bourbon right out there in Shelby.
Starting point is 00:33:16 I feel like, Drew, he's going to be a better teacher than Ryan is. I now vote that you go to Middlesboro and learn from him and I still would like to sit in the back seat
Starting point is 00:33:25 as this happens. Whiskey Thief is offering to teach you. They've got a truck with a clutch that they're offering to teach you want to go there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Well, thank you to Whiskey Thief. Maybe I can take all of them to Middlesboro because I feel like that guy. That's the teacher. It's icy up there. Yes. I showed Mario,
Starting point is 00:33:42 by the way, Shannon, videos of snake handling. Oh, what was his take on that? He didn't think it was real. He thought, he was like, what? That's a thing. I was like, this is where I grew up.
Starting point is 00:33:55 And he went, stop it. Charlie, what's up, Charlie? Hello, Matt, this long-time UK fan. I'm 85 years old. My first heroes at UK were Jack Tingle and Wilbershoe and Jack Parkinson. Well, okay. Hang on. Those are names I've not heard.
Starting point is 00:34:18 Did you say Wilbur Shoe? Wilbur Shoe was from Versailles. He spelled his last name, S-H-U. When did he play? And right after the World War II. Have you ever heard Ryan of Wilbur Shoe? No, but I've heard of Jack Tingle. I heard of Jack Tingle.
Starting point is 00:34:34 Wilbur Shoe. I love that name. I didn't know that was a person. All right, go ahead. Going back to your question about married basketball players. Yes. If you go back to the 1958 championship team, they had a center by the name of Ed Beck. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:53 And he was from Fort Valley, Georgia. And he was a real slim guy. He was about 6-7 and 180 pounds or something like that. But anyway, he was married, and while he was in school, his wife had cancer. Oh. And I'm not absolutely sure of this, but I'm not. I'm pretty sure she passed away while he was in school. And that was during the 58 title run?
Starting point is 00:35:21 Yes. Wow. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. And, uh, but anyway, he was married. And I know he was, uh, very trying time for him while he was playing. What was his name again? I'm sorry?
Starting point is 00:35:34 Ed Beck. Egg Beck. Okay. I've heard of him. Now he, uh, an interesting story that Rupp told about him, he was, like I say, real slim. of them. And he played center. He was like 6-7, you know, 180 pounds or something like that. And Rupp would say, you know, but time Beck would go up against a 240-pound opponent, you know, said those pounds got to be tons by the time the ball game was over.
Starting point is 00:36:03 Well, listen, I like your story. Thank you very much. I didn't know that about Mr. Beck, and I appreciate you call it. Okay, thank you. Thank you. Wilbershoe, Drew, is a great name. Wilbershue is a great name and I looked up the back story and it is true. His wife passed away after the 1957 NCAA tournament and Rutte dedicated the upcoming season to her memory. How about that? How about that?
Starting point is 00:36:25 See, that's a story I never heard before. Never heard it either. In the entirety of UK basketball. Thank you to that guy for telling me. And he was 6-7-185. That's how skinny is 6-7-185. Man, that's thin. All right.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Tell me about Stockton Mortgage. He's already giving up that he's going to get Pope. I heard, by the way, Cal sold his house. Is that true? Yes, rumor is he sold it. Not even putting it on the market. What do he get for it?
Starting point is 00:37:13 Did it say? Well, the rumor is, I don't think it's been posted. Okay, well, be careful saying rumors, but go ahead. Okay. Allegedly, rumors are that it went for over $4 million. All right. Didn't we look it up and it was 3.3 or something appraised? Did the chicken people overpay for it?
Starting point is 00:37:31 Yeah. Maybe. I heard it's, I heard he sold it without even putting it on the market. Didn't put it on the market. Yeah. Anyway, go ahead. Yeah. So, you know, since that house is off the market, there's lots of others for these coaches to come in,

We will take a break. Be right back, KSR. All right, welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. So first of all, I got a couple things. Someone sent in, Drew, something for us to play when Scoop Lemon has scoop. Oh, okay. Are you ready for this? Let's see if we like this. This is the Scoop Lemon has Scoop theme. Scoop. Wow. Perfect.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Can I try one more? Like, I'll tell you something and then Shannon play it. All right. So here we go. No, you got to announce you have Scoop. And then he plays it. Then you say it. All right.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Matt, before you go to go further, I got a little scoop for you. I want to share with you. A Dut Thiero, North Carolina. Just remember that. I mean, you're not the first person to say that. But are you saying that's going to happen? I think it's going to happen. All right, there you go.
Starting point is 00:38:50 Shannon, write it down on the scoop chart. He's not made out the first person, but he's the first person, I believe. Yes, me too. He's putting his neck out there, isn't he? Yeah, he is. A due to UNC. I wonder if that maybe Drew would be a Beisner thing? I would think that.
Starting point is 00:39:03 You are focusing on the actual scoop. I'm still happy about the new noise we have. That is a perfect sound. Let me try one more time. Matt, hold the presses. I got something I got to tell you right now. Scoo. There we go.
Starting point is 00:39:17 Perfect. All right. Now I also have some Walter Shoe information. Are you ready? Or Wilbur Shoe? Does there a sound for that? We don't have any Wilbur Shoe sound. Okay. From Versailles. This is from the John Scott UK history site, which is amazing. Wilbur Shoe played at UK during World War II because he was not eligible for military service because he had two bad knees and holes in his eardrums. Whoa. Poor guy. What does that mean holes in your eardrums? I don't think you want your drum to have a hole in it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:52 I don't really totally know what an ear drum is. Like what it looks like. But anyway, he played... Looks like a snare drum. He played for Adolfs 1414 that was called the Beardless Wonders. Wow. I've never heard of it. But Ralph Beard was in high school then, so it wouldn't be because of him.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Why would they have been called the Beardless Wonders? I don't know. I've never heard that before. He said he had a 5F formula, four Fs and a freshman, which meant four of its members were not eligible for the military draft and one was a freshman. So now why would it, Shannon, what would the other F be? Four Fs and a freshman and the other F meant they couldn't go to the draft, but why is that an F? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:40:43 What would the F? This is in from an article in the Harold Leader. What would the F be, Ryan? I don't know. Are you graded for your draft status? But you wouldn't call the team F if they got graded for it, would you? Unless that was the draft status they got, they got F as a draft status. And why were they the beardless wonders?
Starting point is 00:41:06 Did he make fun, Drew, that they couldn't grow facial hair? Is that what it was? Maybe that's, they were so young. I don't know. I would have thought it would have been the player beard, but the timeline doesn't check out. Well, so there you go. That's your information about. Wilbur Shue. Also, draft Kings,
Starting point is 00:41:21 D.K. Horse. 100% deposit bonus up to $250. We're getting close to Derby. Remember, you have seven days after you deposit up to $250, they'll match that in bonus bets. So you will basically get up to $250 back. 100% deposit bonus. The code is KSR Horse. And if you have signed up for Draft Kings, you can do DK Horse and get the bonus again. So it's a great deal. KSR
Starting point is 00:41:50 horse. If you have a gaming problem, call 1-800 game or 18 plus, 21 plus certain states to open or access, LGBT restrictions apply. Voivor, prohibit. One per customer match, calculator, and first deposit, deposit, deposit, restrictions for two play through silver wages, both, release, $25.00. Same terms. Okay. All right, Shannon, who's next? You're going to sound trumpets. Oh, I didn't. I didn't.
Starting point is 00:42:05 Yeah, you didn't do that. Steve. Steve, go ahead, Steve. Hey, guys, how are you? Good. Hey, I've got a, I've got the information on the pink hat if you're interested. Yeah, it's, okay, so somebody told me it's the player Mason Moore that started it. What's it mean, though? His grandmother gave that to him, and he's the only one that can wear it in the dugout.
Starting point is 00:42:28 And when he pitches, he passes it on to some other pitcher. I don't know his name. But only one player is allowed to wear, there's only one in the dugout. So he, it's from his grandma. That's what I was told. It was from his grandmother. There you go. And then also Saturday, he just, he just.
Starting point is 00:42:47 Jay Whittner was at the ball game. I saw that. I saw that, yeah. I still wouldn't suspect he stays, but yes, I saw he's still in town. He did not look like an unhappy kid. There were people around him. He was smiling. He was giving autograph.
Starting point is 00:43:03 So I just hope that Coach Pope has reached out to him in a serious way. I'm sure he has. But you should just assume he's going to go elsewhere. Let me go to Ryan real quick. Ryan, go ahead. Hey, sorry, you might have discussed this already, but any updates on Liam McNeely? He has been at Yukon, and I think some people thought he might commit there. I think if he doesn't, if he doesn't commit by end of day-to-day, I think Kentucky's got a shot.
Starting point is 00:43:38 So percentage-wise, what are you in? I don't know. I don't know. Let's just leave it at shot. How's that? That works for me, thank you. He was an MVP in the Jordan Brand Classic Classic. Yes, I think he's at Yukon. today or I think is is it real quick whoever this is go hey matt this is Justin and I have a well thank you for telling us that not to hope on Reed Shepard coming back because it's kind of obvious having Colin Chandler okay what's your question and with Colin Taylor being gone and
