This edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office. You call T.J. He'll make them pay. I just dropped some scoop. Well, more scoop slash scuttle butt on KSR Plus.
Starting point is 00:02:49 We'll go over some of it today. No, it's not his. You don't give my scoop. I just wanted to hit the button. He just wanted to play it. The Scoop does not go under Ryan's song. Listen, I don't want to be confused with Ryan's scoop, which generally I agree with, but I want him to stand on his own for his scoop.
Starting point is 00:03:09 I got you. I just wanted to hit the button to make sure it works. But yes, we will go over some of that today. Ryan, I'm going to the Reds game tonight. It's a nice day outside. We got Mario here with his cool pants and ready to go. So you're back to being a Reds fan for the moment. Well, let's see how to be.
Starting point is 00:03:27 this series goes with the Phillies. I don't feel good about it. There's people playing. I don't want to see. Too much Santiago Espinall. There's a guy named Bubba. We got no Bubba's. But you don't want any baseball players named Bubba. He's terrible. They both played last night. That's a bad sign. So when Stuart Fairchild's hitting lead off, I'm not happy. But I'm going to go tonight because it's a nice night. Where are these guys playing? Why are they playing? Because, well, McLean and Friedel or hurt and then like three guys got sick. So they all got
Starting point is 00:04:00 like food poisoning. So like Jonathan, India, Will Benson, and T.J. Freely all have food poisoning. What are they eating? Shannon, you should have a rule. They can't all eat the same thing. I know, right, yeah. Everybody's got to eat a different meal. Yeah. That's exactly right. You need a designated
Starting point is 00:04:15 survive. Yeah, they're eating like Big Z. They came here and ate and now they're like Big Z getting sick. I'm worried about Santiago living in your head a little bit. I don't like you. You seem irrationally angry he does he does he unfortunately draft kings does not let you bet we'll never get a hit ever
Starting point is 00:04:29 because i would like to bet maybe we can ask him if he'll give you odds on that i'd like to have we'll never ever ever get a hit i would bet that every game they don't have prop bets for failure no i don't like that they have prop bets for success yes
Starting point is 00:04:45 i know that's a loser i want a prop bet for failure i want to bet this person will strike out with two guys on. That's what I want. I think you should build just an anti-Santiago parlay. The unders on hits, over on errors, strikeouts. Yeah, I want it all. Bubba Thompson, a ball this weekend, hit him right where you don't want it to hit you in the glove, and he just dropped it, fell down, and hit his head. And I was like, why is he on the team? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Maybe you should go back to Louisville. It sounds like you're wavering from yesterday. You were on board. I'm on board, but let's see what happens tonight. And then we'll come. comeback to it. I did, however, have a lot of excitement last night because my canes, they are now up to O in the playoffs. They had a big comeback, scored two goals in nine seconds. That's crazy. Two goals in nine seconds. I was pumping my fist and dancing, and it was very, are you going to try to go to one of their playoff games? So if they win game three, I'm contemplating flying to New York for game four. Oh, are you? Contemplate. Yeah. I don't want, if the Islanders win game three,
Starting point is 00:05:49 I don't want to go because Islanders fans, they like to fight. They're in Long Island. Have you ever spent any time in Long Island? Kentucky played Long Island that one year in the NCAA tournament. That's the only time I've ever spent your time there. Mario's from Long Island. And here's the thing. You know how this is, Mario. Everybody wants to fight.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Like, everybody's ready to fight in Long Island, including you. Like, so Mario showed up to his interview thing we were just fighting. So I was just for a job. Everybody wants to fight in Long Island. I've been to an Islanders game before, and I cheered for the Islanders. It was fine. But I watched like eight Islanders fans punch a Penguins fan in the face. So if you go as at Kane's fan,
Starting point is 00:06:24 And I'll probably be by myself. Yeah. So I don't, I'm not, I don't know. We'll see. They're not very receptive of the southern hospitality of there. Yeah, Long Island's not like that. So anyway, that's my sports update that's non-Kentucky. I want people to know this.
Starting point is 00:06:39 You have a job this summer. Okay. You act like you're surprised. I thought they told you about this. I thought you would tell me a new job. No, no, you have a job this summer. Yeah. Your job while I'm in Europe is to update the KS bar ambiance.
Starting point is 00:06:53 You know, a lot of this stuff we have up here we've had for like 10 years. So you're going to update the pictures behind us. All these pictures are at least five years old. You're going to update some of these pictures. You're going to update some of the UK memorabilia. Like we need to have some. We need denim. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Well, we need like Pope. For sure. Like for instance, Benny Snell, Tyler Hero, their signings, maybe a picture from that in here, all that stuff. That's what you're doing this summer. I got the Mark Pope picture coming this week. So here's what I would say to you. A lot of you donated memorabilia when we started. And it was very nice of you.
Starting point is 00:07:29 And some of you, you know, I mean, if you gave us the thing, if you ever want it back, you can. But now if there's other memorabilia, you'd like to see hang up here. Yeah. We're going to probably take some down and put some new up. You should contact Ryan Lemon. At Ryan Lemon on Twitter or Shannon, I think texting him is good. Yeah, you got his number. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:48 If you got his number, texting. But Ryan, are you going to be able to make this? job happens. Yeah, we know that there's, there are some of the jerseys, though, I think we want to keep up. I just don't know which ones you kind of would like to rotate out. I want you to make the decision. Okay. I'm just saying, though, I think we need to make it a little fresh. Yeah. Like, you got Will Levis and Oscar Sheewe there. So Mark Pope's going to go right there. So you're just taking Will Levis down? I'm going to move Will Levis over to Oscar and move Oscar over. Okay. We don't have any Calipari stuff. But like we need a Reed Shepard. Yeah. So I mean, the Cal stuff,
Starting point is 00:08:21 no offense, it goes down for now. Maybe it goes back up one day, but it goes down. Pope stuff comes up. Pope stuff comes up. We need a Reed Shepherd thing. Maybe, again, the people that have signed here. Like right over here have like Antonio Reeves, Snell, Tyler, like people that have signed here.
Starting point is 00:08:39 I have Cash Daniels sign print at my house, and it says 2KS bar. See, there you go. So those are the things you're working on this summer. When I come back, the 1st of August, I'm going to walk in here, and it's going to be done. And I'm going to say, look at what a job, Brian Lemon did. I've already taken a big step for Ryan.
Starting point is 00:08:58 And if I had known we were going to have this conversation, I would have brought it today. But I have a surprise for you all. I've been sitting on a while. Matt, you know about it. Oh, yeah. It is a gift wrapped. It will go on the wall. Do you want me to just go?
Starting point is 00:09:08 I think that goes maybe right over there. Do you want to just say it or should? No, no, no, wait. Just put it up sometime. We do have to worry about the statute of limitations. I do want to make sure we focus on prioritized the picture of Shannon face down on the mat right there. No, no, no, you can burn that one. Yes, I will send you via text some of these small ones.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Okay. So that you can make, you can make those on the little plaster boards. Monique can tell you. Yes, okay. Good. 859-2802287. So let's talk about, first of all, news before we get to scoop and north scuttlebutt. News yesterday, they announced the commitment of Colin Chandler.
Starting point is 00:09:44 They also announced the two assistant coaches, Corey Figer and Jason Hart. They also, Richie Saunders is on campus. That's basically the news. Pope did a couple interviews. He was on Fimbom and Rome. I thought the biggest takeaway I had from those interviews was he was just like, yes, we're supposed to win national championships, and yes, I'm going to. I liked hearing him earlier.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Yeah, I liked Pope's little media tour yesterday. I'm hearing him on Fimbombeam and on the Rome. He talked even more about the program. He said all the right things about the history and appreciating it, But he had a few new lines in there, even on, I guess it was on fine, bomb, not Rome, told the story of running into Cal and Tubby in the hotel lobby at the Final Four. I think that was the main highlight of his day.
Starting point is 00:10:29 But it's just everything he says seems to be adding more and more excitement. I mean, there's still people being cautious with the roster and what's ahead. But at least the media stuff he's doing and things he's saying and being out in front of the fans, he's nailing that part. Mark Pope will be on KSR Friday. Nice. All right. So he's not, we will be at Clark's Pumpin Chop.
Starting point is 00:10:47 He has to do it by. phone due to travel stuff, but he will be on here on KSR on Friday. It was kind of interesting to hear him talk about that running into Tubby and Cal on Saturday the final four before any of this even broke. What's weird about that is Cal's already acknowledged that he had had the conversation on Friday, which means, Shannon, Cal met with Pope on Saturday, Pope and Tubby, to talk about what the job world was like and at the time knew he was going to Arkansas. saw Shannon and Pope did not.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Yeah, that would have to be, I mean, looking back on it really awkward, but Pope not knowing that he's about to take Cal's job. I know, I'm saying looking back on it now, you know. But, yeah, could you imagine? I can imagine Pope just getting excited to see Cal and Tubby, he's run up to him, being so innocent, doesn't know what Cal is in his head. Never a million years thinks he'll be the coach in a few days. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:11:41 So he has that conversation with Cal and Tubby, talks about Kentucky basketball, not knowing Cal is about to not be the coach of Kentucky basketball, and in a few days he will be the coach of Kentucky basketball. Like that would be a crazy thing to think about what that conversation. Wouldn't you like to know what was said during that time? Yeah, and I want to know what Cala Perry said, knowing in his mind he wasn't even going to be here, and he's talking to Mark about.
Starting point is 00:12:10 And Tubby. And Tubby about the basketball world. That would be good to ask Tubby about. What was that conversation? Corian Pope, he was just fanboying out. Yeah, Pope said he was like fanboying. two, what he didn't know was two former Kentucky coaches. He thought it was just two coaches, two former Kentucky coaches. So to me, that was crazy. All right, let's go a little bit of
Starting point is 00:12:27 scuttle butt. Some of it you may have to read on the site. But here's the interesting piece that I've heard. I've now had a couple of people in the Kentucky realm confirmed to me that report that was on the Trilly Donovan side, that Arkansas, that the boosters are taking the view of whoever Kentucky wants, we'll double it. What do you think of that? I guess if you're an Arkansas fan, you're thinking like, yeah, that's awesome. Doesn't that seem a little petty to you? It does seem very petty to everybody else.
Starting point is 00:13:02 It's like, we'll just double whoever they want. And it seems so against what Cal said about NIL here. He didn't like the people that had this huge number and wanted a bag in front of him. He was all about you'd have your value and you'll earn it and this and that. I just find it hard to believe that's extra level of petty if he's really just or maybe it's not him it's the boosters but seeing who Kentucky wants then call them up and saying we'll give you a double
Starting point is 00:13:24 whatever they say Shannon is that petty or smart to be like whoever Kentucky wants give them twice it I guess if you've got the money it's smart I would love to be in Arkansas recruit because I would just make up a number and then say okay that's part of it I mean how do they get something on paper how can you confirm that that's what the offer was I don't know you can't that's part of the thing is a blank check Just go up to them.
Starting point is 00:13:47 Kentucky offered me a million dollars. So give me two. How are they going to know? They're not going to have any way of knowing. But it also shows, to me what it shows is how much and how important it is to Cal to stick it to us. Yeah. I think that's going to be, you know, we've talked about this. Cal's always at his best when he has like an enemy to go against.
Starting point is 00:14:09 And if you, knowing Cal over the years, his enemies have ranged from the media. he had a strong dislike for a couple of national media members early on. Rick was like that for a while. Shashefsky was like that for a while. In his early, early days, Calhoun was like that. I think maybe in the last few years it was the media here in Kentucky, or maybe me. Now, I think it's just Kentucky as a whole. Do you think it'll work for it?
Starting point is 00:14:40 No, that's why I was so upset here. Coach your team. Why are you worried about you're telling me you don't hear the clutter? But then when I know people in your circle, they tell me you obsess over the clutter. This is part of the reason I was ready for a split. Is he just going to go down there? But it does go against the culture. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:14:58 He's doing everything he says he doesn't do. So I just feel like he's headed back for a path that we just did the last four years. I mean, I don't know if getting a team of mercenaries, whose whole goal is stick it to Kentucky, is how you win a national championship. I do agree that he is always seemed to be at his best when he has an enemy, like with a coach, Patino or even Shoshchewski. This situation where he's doing these petty things against Kentucky, I think. So let me ask you a question.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Let's say there's a player that Kentucky wants, and I think there is a player that's like this. I mentioned his name on the thing. There is a player Kentucky wants that Arkansas wants to. If you're Kentucky, what do you do? because I think Arkansas wants to not only get the player, but it publicly be seen like they beat you for the player. If you're Kentucky, do you just drop out?
Starting point is 00:15:51 I don't think Kentucky's going to get into a bidding more. So what do you do? A kid that like you think you could get, but you're worried if you make him an offer, Arkansas's just going to come and double. And then publicly it looks like you lost. I show him pictures of Fayetteville and Cal's results the last four years and say if you want the money, good luck to you.
Starting point is 00:16:10 you kid. Is that what you do? Yes. What about you? I think you give it your best shot. So if you don't get him, you walk away with your head held high, but you also got to make that guy like Vince is so good a good about, I feel like you're our priority, you know. So you're okay losing the PR battle? I think in the long run it's going to come back to Kentucky. It may look bad at the moment. Well, I was told in terms of NIL, and this would be by somebody who would know. We are as good, if not better than everybody in the country, but right now Arkansas is playing a different game. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:42 They're doing it on a different level, just, but just right now for a year or two, that they want to basically give Cal a chance to just do it. So we'll see how it works out. Do you all have that? We'll do it after a break. Okay, 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:17:00 We'll find out what Drew has to say and more. Right for this, KSR. And for nothing, yeah, we'll see if it's, money for nothing there in Arkansas. Will they get their titles for free? You know, there'll be a lot of guys definitely take
Starting point is 00:17:17 advantage of that. Be interesting. That's a different thing, though. I mean, that's a completely different thing, especially in the transfer portal. I don't know. But for us, I'm not particularly concerned about any one player. I like how the roster
Starting point is 00:17:32 is filling out. I think they're going to end up. I still think there's probably two or three guys not even in the portal that if they get in the portal, they're coming here. One of which is the kid from BYU, Jackson Robinson. But I think we're just going to have to be patient, though. As somebody reminded me, the kids have until May 29th to decide where they're going. So like, it may be until right, but that's literally the day I'm flying out of the United States.
Starting point is 00:18:00 So, I mean, it may be until then, Drew. Now, what were you going to say before the break? I was just, it's going to make me sound like I'm being a hater. Maybe I am. But I just, I have no jealousy towards the team Calgary builds because we had a super team last year. And they went nowhere. So like, whatever he builds, I don't care. I'm going to keep up with it because it's Cal and Big Z's there and DJ will probably be there.
Starting point is 00:18:21 I'll be following it. But I'm not going to be scared of whatever he builds. Yeah, I'm not either. And even if he has a great run, I won't be jealous because whatever Cal they have, we weren't going to have here. So that wasn't going to be an option for us. So whatever he does, I'm going to be watching it and commenting on it. But it's not like, oh, no, look what we could have had. Because the cow they have and the money they have behind him was not in Lexington.
Starting point is 00:18:42 So whatever he does was not the same thing. What's amazing, Ryan, is that the NIL money at Kentucky is greater now than it was when he was here. Yes. Oddly, for as good as Cal is at marketing and recruiting, the NIL situation here was actually pretty bad when he was here. because the main donors weren't on board and the fans didn't get in the law familiar. So he really was in a situation where they did not have NIL money. Now, at least for the first few years,
Starting point is 00:19:19 Pope's got a ton of NIA. So oddly, the NIL situation is significantly better today than it was a few weeks ago when we had a Hall of Fame coach, which I don't know that you would have predicted what happened. Is it just because some of those boosters are back on board? a lot of things. Excitement. The booster part back on board.
Starting point is 00:19:39 I mean, those are two major, major things. But also there's just a re-energy with the program. I mean, I was on a Salt Lake City radio show yesterday. And they said, what's happening? And I said, you know, these fans are back in. And they're like, that's weird. Why would they be back in on this coach you all don't know? And I was like, because he's one of us, right?
Starting point is 00:20:01 He's one of us. Yeah. we almost are all rooting for him. You know what I mean? I mean, we're always rooting for whoever the coach is. But there's almost like a personal like he's our kid. You know what I mean? Like he's like our kid.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Like we want him to succeed, not just because he's a coach of Kentucky, but because we want one of ours, Ryan, to work, you know? That's why after the initial announcement on Thursday night, after our show on Friday, I think we had all had kind of come to that realization after it sunk in. Dude, this is good for the program because he gets it. He's one of us.
Starting point is 00:20:39 And I don't know what Pope said about that, Drew. I thought that was like actually amazingly humble. He said on Five Mom something like they were like, well, what about the change? Fine Mom said, what about the change in reaction from Thursday night when people were like, and then Friday afternoon everybody's in? And he said, and I thought this was really smart of him. He said they all just needed a chance to digest it. He said we all just needed to digest it.
Starting point is 00:21:06 And then all of a sudden, everyone was like, okay, let's do this. But he wasn't resentful of that initial reaction. He said he understood it. Yeah, he even said something along the lines of, you know, at Kentucky, I want my coach to have championships. He's like, obviously, I don't have that on my resume. He's even acknowledging maybe I wasn't the splash. He was higher the way it had gotten the reaction.
Starting point is 00:21:26 And he understood the fan base. But then the next morning and then on Sunday, He even said he's never seen anything like that in any sport everywhere. So that attitude as we saw quickly changed, and he seems cool with that. You know, you talk about this, NIL and I ask you this off the air, was Carter Knox involved in a bidding war? I don't think the bidding war is as much for the freshmen. I think, oddly, the bidding war is for the transfers. I think a lot of these freshmen, especially the ones that go to Cal, they're going for the NBA.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Right? And they don't, does that make sense? Yeah. Whereas like, you know, if you're. Amari Williams, you may not think you're going to play in the NBA. And so the NIO is more important. Do you agree with that? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:07 And back on the Pope being one of us saying with the, I was thinking this the other day, we wrote a little bit about it on the board. As a fan, we always want our coach to understand how crazy you are and want him to be one of us. Pope has a championship reeling on his finger. He's actually probably more Kentucky Wildcat than the fans are. Really, he's blood, sweat, tears, been a part of it. So we finally have a guy that knows it, lives it, breathes it. That dude was watching UK games out in BYU and he's not playing.
Starting point is 00:22:32 There's just, there's so much more of having someone that feels like they're in it and crazy with you and understand all of our. He talks. He talks with us, not at us. Yeah. That's the best way I can put it. He knows we're crazy. He's one of us. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Like, isn't there a, Shannon, isn't there like a pop culture thing where everyone chants one of us? What's that from? Is it Wolf of Wall Street? I use it. Maybe it is. Maybe it is. But everybody's chanting one of us. he's one of us.
Starting point is 00:23:00 So like he does what we do. And so he's not looking at us going, hey, crazy people, calm down. He's one of the crazy people with us, right. And I know it's maybe not a big deal, but just the fact that he's walking around at Keenland. And he's taking the kid to the airport. Just little things like that just telling me that he gets it. By the airport thing, Shannon. I mean, CBS Post-Post-B.
Starting point is 00:23:26 CBS posted my tweet of him at the airport and said, Do you think other coaches do this, which led all of America? I don't, whoever runs CBS social media, I got a bone to pick with you. Why did you make that a thing? I had coaches all over the America going, well, I coach a D-2 school. I pick my kids up at the airport. Who cares? That's not what I'm talking about.
Starting point is 00:23:50 I'm saying, did you ever see Mike Chashefsky pick somebody up at the airport? Don't ever remember seeing a picture of it. Somebody sent me a picture that, 2014 Cal picked a guy up at the airport. Okay, fair enough, but that was a decade ago. I just think the little things, he literally
Starting point is 00:24:06 went to every spot with that kid, and that I know, Drew, does not happen. It doesn't. They usually have a player or an assistant coach go with him. Pope walked him to every spot he went to this weekend. And what made that picture so cool is Pope's wife
Starting point is 00:24:22 is given the biggest hug. They're not even off the escalator. It's actually a safety hazard. Let them get off that escalator, but that just shows how excited they were going to do there. I was worried about a carry situation there. You have to get off the escalator before you start hugging people. All right, we'll take your calls. 859, 28027, KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Starting point is 00:24:43 Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Is this Gary Allen? It is. Yeah. I like Gary Allen. Was he part of that group that were playing in Ashland this weekend?
Starting point is 00:24:56 They had like rock your face or something. I don't know about Rock Your Face Festival. Something like it was like Rock for Love or Rock Your Head or something. And it was like Travis Tritt. It was everybody I liked in it, except I think Kid Rock was in it. I would have skipped that part. But like Travis Trit was in it. I feel like Gary Allen was in it.
Starting point is 00:25:15 And I think it was like Rock Your Face. Rock Your Face. I have to look that one up. It was like in Ashland. And there were a ton of people, like a ton of people there. It's an unfortunate name if that was what it was called. I think it worked though if you get a ton of people. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:26 Sure. Right. Yes. If I'm going to rock in a place It's called Rock Your Face, I'm probably going there first. I think it sounds fun. Like, I'm going to go rock my face. I don't want to go to a place called like,
Starting point is 00:25:36 we'll kind of rock a little bit. Yeah, I want to go to rock your face. Yeah, just rock your face. The one of us, people are telling me it's from different things. But apparently it started on the movie Freaks. Have you ever seen that movie? Not seen that movie. It was very old.
Starting point is 00:25:48 When I was in, I think I saw that in Governor's Scholar in 1995. It was like an old black and white movie. And it's like, I don't remember the details of it. Maybe it was about people like in the circus. It's from 1932. Yeah, and is it about people in the circus? I think so.
Starting point is 00:26:06 I think it is. Yeah, and it was called freaks. They made us watch. We'd had to watch a movie like once every, I don't know, however long, or you could watch it, and I went. And it's about like circus freaks, and they would chant one of us. So is that what we are now, a bunch of circus freaks? We are circus.
Starting point is 00:26:19 Of course we're circus freaks. Are you kidding me? We're the circus freak. One person writes on the text machine, Matt. What about the players? former players that Cal said we're going to give money to NIL. You're skipping over that. You really believe that?
Starting point is 00:26:37 I mean, come on. Did any former players get money? Did people really believe that? I mean, again, that was part of what was hard. I remember Drew and I talking about when that happened. And Drew and I were like, that's not going to happen. Because, well, I'll tell you what one person in the athletics department said. There's a difference between them telling Cal, yeah, I'll give money, and then them doing it.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Right. I'm sure if Cal called up one of the guys and goes, hey, would you give to the United? Sure, coach. But then when the other ones try to collect it, and you made a point, Drew, about who's going to give, well, you'd make the point. Yeah, well, if I'm Devin Booker,
Starting point is 00:27:13 why would I hand cash to a UK player when I didn't get any, and they're going to be in the NBA next year, and I'm guarding them, and I just gave them $500,000. Now, giving money to a building or to the school or a dorm or something you were a part of, but if I'm a former player, I am not giving money to NIL against the guy I'm going to be competing against. I'd be honest with you. I never believe that.
Starting point is 00:27:36 I never believed that at all. Like the idea that there was $5 million. Now, I agree with you. Could I see former players giving to build a practice facility? Yes. Yes. That they should do. Could I see them giving to an NIL fund?
Starting point is 00:27:51 No. They didn't get it. Yeah. And especially with the one and done UK thing, they would be guarding them. next year in the league and Boogie Flam with being his ear like thanks for that $100,000 I mean that just wasn't going to happen. All right, who's up first? Seth. Seth.
Starting point is 00:28:04 Seth, how are you, Seth? Hey guys, I was wondering, I was going to have the schedule for next year and I was wondering about the ACC challenge. Yes. And we're also not going to play Duke. Probably Arkansas is going to play Duke and Cameron Indoor, I would guess.
Starting point is 00:28:21 Yeah, we can't play Duke. We can't play Duke because we play him in the Champions Classic. Right. North Carolina probably plays Tennessee again. No one else is really good. Do you think we play Syracuse? I think we play North Carolina. I think they'll put us with North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:28:38 I mean, because they can, because we played North Carolina last year in the CBS Classic. So we don't play them for the next two years. So they could set up a home and home with us in North Carolina. And that's just my guess, but I think that's what will happen is I think we'll go down there next year and then they'll come here the next year. That's just my guess, but I would predict that. Okay, I think it's probably next year we would play Duke because the next year starts the two years we're not playing Duke.
Starting point is 00:29:06 And maybe they decide to do that. I mean, maybe they decide to then set up. But if I were to, that's just my guess is, I think you're right. I think Arkansas will play at Duke. Cal's going to have to go to Cameron even though he didn't want to. And I appreciate the call. But I would see us, because the problem is, he's right, Ryan. The ACC stinks besides those two teams.
Starting point is 00:29:28 So I don't know who else you could have us play, really. It makes sense. You have to play North Carolina this season, and then you can flip it and get Duke next year after that. You could get North Carolina next year here at home. Or you could get Duke. You could do either one of them, I guess. The only thing there is with the other one,
Starting point is 00:29:45 it was always home away, home away, and both Carolina and Kentucky were home last year. You know, that's not a big deal. Oh, were they? I didn't know that. Okay, well, then, yeah, so then maybe we're not playing North Carolina. I didn't realize North Carolina was at home last year. The one I think was a way that could be home that I would watch is NC State.
Starting point is 00:30:01 Just because they were in the final four, I know it's not a big draw. I have a completely different team. I know, but, I mean, you give Alabama one of the big teams, and then it's unfortunately the technical. I'd be surprised. I'd be surprised. I mean, if they send us to Raleigh, that's, but that's only if they keep the home away thing going. They could easily just make one of us be home again and give us Carolina. It's not an issue.
Starting point is 00:30:20 That's a game we could win, I think, if we were at at NC State. Who's next? Chris. Chris, go ahead, Chris. Morning, guys. It's a beautiful day to be driving to Kentucky back roads. I just want to say
Starting point is 00:30:32 real quick in regards to Arkansas funneling all that money. It just shows the opposite of what Cal said they are when he said they're a true blue blood. They are scared and they think money is going to fix it. But Coach
Starting point is 00:30:49 Pope is just going to preach the truth of Kentucky basketball and the BVN and we're going to be just fine. I'll hang up. Yeah, look, we have to, and I think our fans are doing this, but we have to change our mindset of what our roster is going to look like for the next few years. I mean, we're not, now, I do think eventually we recruit top guys,
Starting point is 00:31:12 but it's not going to be next year. Next year, we're going to have a lot of old dudes, right? We're going to have a lot of old dudes, and we're going to have a lot of Mormon missionary kids, and it's just going to be a different kind of thing. team. But that doesn't mean, Ryan, it can't be good. Like, it doesn't mean they can't be a top 15 team. I take you back to the final four. Go look at those teams that made the final four. All right. Yukon had one five star, a four star and a bunch of three stars. Purdue had Zach Edie, who I don't know what his star was, but he wasn't like a top recruit out of high school and a bunch
Starting point is 00:31:48 of dudes that like you didn't even know coming out of high school. Alabama had a team. Everyone was a transfer on the team, every single person. And NC State had a bunch of guys that three weeks before nearly lost to Louisville in the ACC tournament. So, I mean, it's just a different world in college basketball. Yeah, you know, the roster construction in college basketball has changed in the last several years. Used to be you load up maybe on the youngest guys you could find. It is completely changed. Now it's, you see roster construction. So what do you think our fans are going to believe? Like, let's say we walk out there next year and our. best players are Colin Chandler, you know, Great Osabor, Amari Williams, Andrew Carr, Kobe
Starting point is 00:32:34 Brea, and that's the team we put out there. All very good players, but maybe none of them going to play in the NBA. Drew, do you think our fans will understand that? I don't think everyone will. I've already seen some tweets, and it's just Twitter, but people complaining about Colin Chandler, the guys that were having BYU, people that Pope's bring with him. I just keep telling, I just keep saying that team won at Kansas, BYU, that team beat Baylor. But do you think our fans will be good? Like, do you think our fans will be good with a bunch of guys that aren't quite what we're used to with like, whoa, did you see him do that? It'll take some a few games, but when we stop one pick and roll or one run one action to get a shooter open, they'll be like, oh, well, that's pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:33:21 I mean, I think the thing that people have to think about is this. We are about to be a team of Antonio Reeves and not a team of Rob Dillingham's. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. Like, that's what we need to understand. Like, we're about to be a team of Antonio Reeves, which I think can be a great team, but doesn't blow your mind. Yeah, and that, as long as they go and win, we're going to get behind it. You know, Tubby didn't have a lot of superstars, you know, maybe one a year, and he would have
Starting point is 00:33:51 some great basketball teams because of roster construct, how you build that roster. He still, though, would recruit some top. I mean, Tubby got some top guys. People forget about it. But at the very end, we were Sharray Thomas's, but he brought in Tashon and Bogan's and Marvin Stone was the top of it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:07 I mean, he had a bunch of things. We need to realize Cal was doing it one of one with the way he was doing it here. And we saw it for 15 years. We got so used to it. But outside, everyone's looking at us. Like, that's not normal how many players they're getting. No, you're right. UK federal credit unions, the official credit.
Starting point is 00:34:21 Union the University of Kentucky, award-winning best place to work, serving the University of Kentucky for over 186 years, Ryan. That's crazy. That's a lot. From student to graduate, employee, and beyond. UKFCU is here for you and here for life. Membership eligibility required, fairly insured by NCUA. It's UK Federal Credit Union.
Starting point is 00:34:38 We'll take a break. Barry back. This is KSR. We're sitting here watching the preview for the NBA, or NFL draft. You know, that's two days from them. I'm working on my post game show. Tell them what you just told us. That's what about that post game show.
Starting point is 00:34:55 It's Thursday and Friday night. Thursday, Shannon, it goes till 2 a.m. Oh, my God. Oh, my goodness. For all the people that want to stay up until 2 a.m. and hear my draft knowledge. Man. What are you going to say?
Starting point is 00:35:09 Kool-Aid. It was a good pick because there's a guy named Kool-Aid. I'm really happy about that. I mean, you talk about the quarterbacks. I mean, I'm going to pick a guy between me and you. Is this just us talking? Yeah, just us. Shannon, it was just us.
Starting point is 00:35:22 I'm going to just whoever. was the whoever is the just pick a number one through 32 pick a number 11 that's too high pick a number like we'll say 12 through 32 all right 7 I just said picking number 12 through 32 oh my bad
Starting point is 00:35:37 I go 32 this is who I have to work with every day I said pick a number 12 through 32 and you said 7 my bad right let's try Drew see if he can follow the instructions a little better 12 through 32 I will go with 19 whoever is the 19th pick.
Starting point is 00:35:55 Okay. That's my sleeper of the driver. Okay. Oh, I like it. All right, Shannon. That's the round. Okay. So who has the 19th pick?
Starting point is 00:36:03 I was pulled up the order. I know the 19th pick because the thing is whatever, how would you not, do you know that? Well, I had, I was reading a mock draft earlier. Okay. Pulled up. Whoever has the 19th picks. Yeah, the ramps. The Rams.
Starting point is 00:36:14 Wow. Whoever they pick. Uh-huh. On my post game show. Sleeper of the draft. All right. Thursday late, you could have two Kentucky players picked. So if you lose track.
Starting point is 00:36:24 Friday, Friday. Second. Oh, yeah, you're doing round one only. I'm doing round one on Thursday and then round two and three on Friday. What's what I'm saying? Just fill round two and three with as much Andrew Phillips Trevin Wallace as possible. And Ray Davis. And my house Ray Davis not been picked yet.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Do these people not realize that he should have already been picked? That's what I have. But the 19th pick, this is going to be my secret. When the post game show starts, I'm going to say, my favorite pick of the draft was whoever picked the 19th pick and whoever that is. I hope it's like an offensive line. in from like central Michigan. Here's the other thing I'm going to do.
Starting point is 00:36:56 Whoever that pick is. Yeah. In the rest of the first round, I'm going to research and know everything about it. So I'm going to go, I mean, he's 6-3, 300 pounds. I mean, oh, look at the skill. I watched his tape against Purdue. Like, that's what you're going to see. I don't mean to give away my secrets.
Starting point is 00:37:14 I think you're giving away a little. Is Myron doing this with you? Yes. Does he giggle when you do say something like that? I would argue he knows less than me. Oh, okay. Rock the country. Not rock your face.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Rock the country. Kid Rock. Jason Aldeen. So it was probably a Biden rally. Hank Williams, Jr. And Miranda Lambert. That's who was. Also, the Gary Allen dude was not there.
Starting point is 00:37:39 Well, he may have been an opening act. I don't know. I saw that Travis Trit was there. Somebody, I think, sent me a picture. Before we get back to phones, I want to tell you, I want to test you all on something. How many pandas do you think are in the world? Oh, wow. My goodness.
Starting point is 00:37:53 learned this yesterday. How many pandas are in the world? In the world. In the world. 3,000. 3,000. Oh, at least 12,000. Shannon, how many pandas? 6,000. 1,984. Wow. Wow. Some things I think are interesting about that. There are only two left in the United States. No kidding. But I don't know where they are. If somebody knows, I don't know if they're in somebody's house or something, but there are only. of the 1,000, they know that the exact 1,984. What's crazy to me is that they know that, because only 1,750 of those 1984 are in the wild.
Starting point is 00:38:38 But yet they know exactly how many there are. How do they know? I don't know. I think they're lying. How could they know? And how could you have such a specific number? Like, they don't say there's about 2,000. There's not a panda census guy that goes around and like.
Starting point is 00:38:52 I'm sure they tag them. I'm sure that like they tag them in that way you know where they are. But how do you know, apparently almost all of them are in China? So how do you know you didn't miss one? Yeah. Like if they're out in the wild, how do you know there isn't one that like just didn't come in for tagging? That's right. He was hiding.
Starting point is 00:39:09 Or how do you know one hadn't just fallen over or two haven't made a new one? Well, that's true. How do you track? Well, I guess we learn they die by they're being tagged and maybe their heart starts to be. I mean, I don't know anything about what I'm talking about. Oh, they're like a life alert kind of thing. Well, there's a. I don't think they.
Starting point is 00:39:24 fall and say, I've fallen and I can't get up. Can you come help me? But I would assume you know how they die. I just feel like how can they know for sure they know every panda? I don't think they can. It's got to be an estimate. They don't know for sure. But the number is that specific. If it was 2000, I would agree with you, Shannon. It's just an estimate. But you don't put 1,984 unless you're pretty certain it's 1,984. Maybe that's all that they have tracked, you think? I mean, Maybe. There's got to be more out there that's not true. Are you surprised?
Starting point is 00:39:57 There's only two in the United States. Yeah. That did surprise me. I knew the numbers were dwindling, but I didn't know there were only two left in the United States. It's got to be in some big zoo somewhere. Apparently there was one. There were two in San Diego. We sent them back.
Starting point is 00:40:10 There was one in Memphis. What a poor draw that one, God. And then they sent that one back. And then there were two in D.C. And they sent them back. But somewhere there's still two, and I don't know where they are. I hope they're male and female. That way they can make a third one, as Drew was saying.
Starting point is 00:40:26 You know, we can add to the population. Oh, yeah, you hope so. I just feel bad for the one that's by himself. Imagine you're a creature. And you're in Memphis. Yeah, especially Memphis, but let the pandas go be pandas. Yeah, I feel like you've got to give them two. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:38 You can't just have just for the sake of, you know, happy producing. Companionship. Who's next? Jake. Jake, go ahead, Jake. What's going on, fellas? How's everybody doing? Doing good.
Starting point is 00:40:49 All right, well, I listen every day, Matt. And I noticed that you got a, a lot of negative talk towards you and the guys of KSR. And I thought, what better way than to end all that than to invite every hater that you guys have to OVW for a KSR versus haters wrestling match. I mean, you're saying, I'm not getting in the ring with a bunch of people with nothing to lose. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:41:14 I will say, I said this, the hater thing, it happens. But you know what? It's just because, to be honest with you, KSR has. a lot of listeners. The more listeners you have, the more haters you have? What is it? Was it Mace that said, Mo money, Moe, Mo problems? It's not money so much as it's just attention. Mo listeners, no problem. Mo listeners, mo, it's okay. Like, I, you know, what are you going to do about it? You just got to keep trucking. I can respect that, Matt. Thank you all for taking my call. Thank you, sir. That's why the applause you got at the Pope thing, I think, was little
Starting point is 00:41:53 verification that that's the people that were clapping back that's a small minority the large majority of fans are still have your back and support ksr all you know through and through yeah well that's what we hope who's next the great cat williams says everyone needs haters and if you need to hate someone you can hate on me all right so feel free to hate on me if you need to hate on somebody hate on me and cat yeah who's next uh let's go to thomas cats in louville like next week and a big Netflix special go ahead I know we're not going to get some little flashed recruits like we used to get. We'll get a few, not a lot of them.
Starting point is 00:42:29 But what about the benefit of getting to see these kids grow up a little bit now and a little bit more of our relationship? We'll get a few more of those kids, won't we? I think to see. I think so. I mean, you still have the issue that they can transfer now. But I do think if you look, these other schools are keeping a handful of guys, right? So I do think we will have the continuity that you're talking about you like.
Starting point is 00:42:51 I don't think it's going to be like the old days where everyone's But I do think you'll have a handful of guys who play multiple years and you get to watch them grow. Won't that help towards team chemistry a little bit, too? I do. I think so. Yeah. I mean, it will. Again, we have to see how this portal thing all plays out in terms of, I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:43:12 But you look at Carolina and Kansas and Yukon, Drew, all of those teams have had guys in the last couple years who stayed through multiple years. I think you'll see that here, too. Yeah, I'd say most of the successful teams here recently have done that. We've just been so unique in Lexington. It just feels weird seeing these three stars and guys that might have come off the bench in another school. It's just so different to us, but it actually has been working at other places. It has.
Starting point is 00:43:34 859-280-2287. We are here at KS. Barr. Come on out, have lunch. Help Ryan figure out what he needs to do to redecorate. Got a lot of suggestions already. Okay. Some of them are good. Yeah.
