Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-2802287.
We are here at KS Bar and Grill.
Come on out and join us and continue to send Ryan your suggestions.
We're talking UK basketball.
The third hire, by the way, could be Alvin Brooks from Baylor.
We'll talk about what that means.
But first, two non-sports things.
Okay.
Well, actually, one update.
There are only two pandas.
They're in Atlanta.
The Atlanta Zoo.
They're the Atlanta pandas.
Every other pandas out of here.
So if you want to see a panda, you have to go to Atlanta.
There's a lot of trash pandas.
Those are raccoons.
Appreciate it.
There are two pandas that are in.
Atlanta, and that's where you can go see it.
All right, so a couple things here.
First of all, you remember we talked yesterday about the Supreme Court was going to do the
arguments about the homeless stuff?
You saw that?
I ended up reading the transcript, because that's the kinds of thing I do.
And really interesting stuff, really interesting argument.
With the exception of Alito, who seems like maybe the orneous, is that right?
Honorious.
Or the orneest.
That's something different.
I'm not going to say he's the orneest.
We don't know what he does it in a private life.
I'm not accusing of that.
Honoriest person.
The other people all had interesting points, honestly.
And here's what I think they're going to end up deciding.
They're going to end up deciding that it's okay for cities to say you can't set up like tents and things.
but it came down to basically
Sonia Sotomayor made the most interesting argument
and this lawyer didn't know what to say
they said okay
do you have to sleep to live
and the lawyer was like
yes you do
and they go so how can you
so can you ban a person from sleeping
if they are required to do it to live
and he goes well yes
and so then she said well
could you ban them from
breathing.
Well, that was an interesting thing.
And he goes, well, no.
And she said, why?
And she goes, he was like, because you have to breathe to live.
And she goes, but you've already just acknowledged that you have to sleep to live.
And that was actually a very interesting point.
But I think they're going to end up saying that the cities cannot ban people from sleeping in public,
but they can prevent them from like setting up shop in public.
So now they're not saying cities have to, but they have the ability to.
I think that's where it's going to end up just from my reading of it.
But I actually would say, if you can find the argument, it's actually an interesting,
and the justices, the liberal and the conservative ones, kind of noting that like homelessness is a really hard problem to fix.
And the back and forth, I thought, was fascinating.
I kind of walked right into that.
Well, I mean, he should have seen it.
Yeah.
I kind of felt like, to be honest with you, no offense, the lawyer for the city.
What in the best lawyer I've ever heard?
Because, like, if they said to me, do you have to sleep to live, I'd be like,
all right, where are they going?
Because then when they said, well, do you have to breathe?
And you'd be like, hey, wait a minute.
Hang on just a second.
Because clearly you can't ban people from breathing.
So, so anyway, it was an interesting thing.
Like we talked about yesterday, the whole, just the humanity of it, you know?
I think people were very, I had a lot of people right in me, very upset that they,
I don't think people realize that they passed a law in the Kentucky legislature
that isn't as bad as this law that went to the Supreme Court,
but it's pretty strong against, like, people sleeping in public.
And, like, it's, I think if the court goes where I think they will,
some of that Kentucky law gets struck down too.
Does it really?
So we'll see.
Second thing, Shannon and I had something happen.
We're going to try to educate people, Shannon, right?
Yeah.
From yesterday.
Yeah.
Okay.
So we have a new advertiser.
I want to, this is Matt Jones's marketing,
advice. Okay. We have a new
advertiser. I encourage everybody to use them.
It's the basement doctor.
Yeah. Right? Okay. What are you
laughing at? Shannon.
Because I know what we did
yesterday. So it's the basement doctor.
So I was cutting the ads for
the basement doctor. And
basement doctor, you come in, fix up your
basement, make it nice, right? But then they
gave the website.
All right.
This is my advice to people.
You have to give people a website
that they can remember.
Can I read you what the basement doctor's website I had to read was?
We all have in our mind what it should be.
Okay, let's just see about what would you want to make it?
BasementDR.com, basement doctor.com.
They want to see how many referrals they get from this ad.
A lot of people do that, so they'll put KSR in it or something
so that you see whether or not the KSR ad is working, right?
So maybe Basement Doctor KSR.
Okay.
That would be, it would make sense.
Slash KSR.
KSR basement doctor, maybe.
Works?
Can I give you what I read?
Okay.
BasementDRKYRadio.com.
Now, I sent this to Shannon.
I'm like, how are people supposed to remember that?
I've already forgotten it.
If I had to go to it right now, my life depending on it, I wouldn't get it.
Basement, DR, KY, Radio.
And you're the only person, like, you have.
have the brain that would remember that kind of thing.
But I kept it, I couldn't even read it because it's basement, DR, K-Y-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-A-R-R-R-A-R-R-R-A-R-R-R-A-R-R-L-A-R-R-L-A-R-L-A-L-L-I-L-L-I-L-L-I-L-L-
that we don't need to call these advertisers stupid.
You don't have to call people names.
Oh, that was taught that at an early age.
Okay, well, just keep it to yourself.
go ahead but you know the the you want to retent you retend read the retention you hear it to remember
it you want to retend it yeah was that kiss method again keep it simple stupid maybe retention yes
or retain retain retain so basement dr k y radio dot com so i so you did you do it they went into the spot
and i told shannon i'm going to use this to make a point and it should help them because now people
are going to be more likely to remember.
But when you do an advertisement, you've got to make it to where it's simple for people.
Yep.
And basement DRKY radio.
That's almost like basement dorky radio.
It just needs to know the DRKY.
Yeah, I think you'd be better calling it basement dorky radio than what it is.
So, Shannon, that's just a lesson for future advertisers or people who do market.
Yeah, make it easy to remember.
Make it easy.
Ryan and Drew, I wish you could have heard the rant that Matt was going on.
off on between cutting these spots.
There was another one.
And again, I'm not going to say this one because this one made me matter, so I'm not going to
tell the company.
They had like half the sentences and the read were not sentences.
They didn't have a verb.
Yeah, Matt Reed just said, that don't you have a verb at it.
Won't these people just read?
Truth read.
It's not that hard.
It doesn't have a verb.
He's yelling at me.
I'm going, dude, I didn't write it.
I'm just hitting the record button for you.
They've been so focused on basements.
They don't have time for it.
This was a basement, to be fair.
They had all grammatical parts of theirs.
I've got so funny ad reads, too, occasionally they come through.
I'm like, how do you not have a verb?
It's, you just sentences need two things.
A subject and a verb.
You got, that's what you got to have.
Who's next?
Zach.
Zach, go ahead, Zach.
Hey, guys, can you hear me?
Yes.
First time, long time.
Who are?
Just want to say, save the pandas.
Also, um, trash panda is a derogist.
term, just so we're clear.
But I just had a couple things to say.
It's a minor league baseball team called the Trash Pandas in Huntsville.
Go ahead.
Well, where I'm from, it's a derogatory term.
But we all know Calipari is going to get some recruits, going to get some players.
He was doing that here.
True.
I say let Arkansas spend the money.
We wanted a coach who was going to make adjustments, who was going to coach Exeter and O's,
who was going to bring a team together.
Correct.
And I say let the chips fall where they may, and let's go.
and let's see where the season takes us.
That's a really good point.
I mean, a lot of our fans, the things we complained about,
we now have a coach that'll do it, and I appreciate the call.
We complained about no adjustments.
We complained about X's and O's.
We complained about not running plays.
We complained about not getting older players.
Well, now you've got a guy that's going to do all those.
So, you know, I think a lot of council supports would go,
all right, you got what you want.
Let's see how it goes.
I think it'll go well, Drew,
but this is like we got what we asked for.
Now let's see what happens.
Yeah, and it'll be a different process.
We're going to have to be patient.
But at the same time, right now it's a pretty low bar in the postseason for Mark Pope to upgrade us.
That includes Nashville and the NCAA tournament.
It won't take much to put a smile on Big Blue Nations face this March.
I think you made a point that's very valid.
Whatever Cal does at Arkansas, he wasn't going to do that here.
He is a different person there.
He was not going to do that here.
Anybody he gets in the portal where they play a lot for NIL,
we didn't have that money with him here, right?
Any spark he has, he didn't have that here.
You know, the first thing he did when he got down there
is he did interviews with local radio stations.
He didn't do that here.
Like, those are little, like.
Is that the baseball game there?
He hadn't been to one here.
I don't think he is.
Whatever it is that you think he does at the next level,
the reality is it's like, again, my thing about the marriage.
When a couple gets divorced,
and then the man goes and gets in shape
and gets a trainer and all of a sudden gets hair plugs,
he wasn't going to do that if he stayed in his marriage.
So the wife was still good to kick him out.
I think that's similar to this.
He's going to be different there than he would have been here.
Yeah, we talked about if he's re-energized again,
he's probably going to have some success.
He will.
Yeah.
He's not going to win a national championship,
but he'll do fine.
Yep.
He'll do fine.
It was probably a good hire for Arkansas,
and it ain't my money,
like Drew always says.
so if they want to spend it, go for it.
Who's next?
T.O.
T.O. What's up T.O.
God bless you, boys, today.
Matt Jones, I'm just going to tell you,
we need to be thanking Coach Cal for his sacrifice.
He has fell on the sword,
and we are sending the ultimate Trojan horse down there to Hogtown, USA.
And he is going to lead them little piggies to the slaughter every March.
They must have that cornbread hemp down there, too,
because him boys are actually laughing and batting each other on the back like they got lightning in a bottle.
In the immortal words of Rick Flair, who!
There you go.
So you're saying this is going to be like Kenny Payne at Louisville, where we send them there,
they get excited only to watch them be defeated.
Drew, what are the chances of that?
I think it's a possibility.
Him being awesome is a possibility.
I don't know what to expect your Arkansas.
They could be horrible.
They really could, but they could also go to the Final Four.
Who knows?
Who knows?
As long as Kentucky beats him at Rupp Arena, I think I'll be happy with that.
You can't let them come in here and beat us.
I'm telling you, that's going to be a day unlike any of it.
The most nervous I've ever been for a game in my life without question with 2012 final four against Louisville.
There'll never be a game that I was more nervous about because I was thinking if we lose this game
and I live in this city, I'm going to have to move.
That's what I, that was my thought.
And then we won.
This won't be quite on that level because it's not a final four,
but I'm going to be pretty nervous next year.
That's going to be a nerve-wracking game.
Oh, I'm excited for that and Rupp,
and I'll add one more that's not necessarily on the schedule,
but we can get.
Give me Arkansas on Friday in Nashville,
with Pope talking about how much that tournament means,
and those fans that walked out last year on Friday,
and the year before that on Friday,
in the year before that on Friday, I want that scenario.
That's a good one.
Yeah.
That's a really good one.
Who's next?
Let's go to Rick.
Rick, go ahead.
Yeah, some of the guys just stole my thunder,
but we don't need to be worried about what Caliperi's doing.
He can only get about six top players,
and that's not what we're wanting anyway with the new era with Pope.
But, I mean, six, you know, there's enough top players that let him have his
and we'll worry about what we got.
But everybody acts like they've got to outbid him or something.
Let them do what they're doing, and there's plenty of talent around for,
us to do what we're doing.
I appreciate to call.
I don't disagree with you on that.
What's the website again?
Basement Dorky Radio.
Okay, Basement, D-R-K-Y-R-R-R-R-Rady.
You see how you remembered it?
Basement Dorky Radio.
Yeah, take out the O.
Take out the O.
Basement Dorky Radio with no O.
That's it.
Look at that.
859-2-80-2287.
Speaking of cornbread hemp, they're going to need it in Arkansas when they go 14 and 14.
You go to cornbread hemp.com.
promo codes K-S-R.
It'll help you sleep, help you relax.
Full-spefax.
flower-only hemp CBD gummies. It's a great way to find your inner zen. It's cornbreadhemp.com and use my code KSR for 30% off your first go at it. Give it a shot once you do, I guarantee you'll come back. It is cornbread hemp.com. We'll take a break. Be right back. KSR. Welcome back. Tegu Sports Radio. People are writing me on the, it's funny the things that strike people. Today, not recruiting, not basketball. Pandas is.
the biggest thing people are writing about. People really
love pandas and then
the homeless people thing.
And going, well, why don't they do
it here or here?
Again, not to keep coming back to Sotomayor,
but she made a good point. She said,
if we allow this town
to ban people sleeping in public,
then in theory, we can
allow every town to do it.
And if we allow every town to do it,
then they will have absolutely
nowhere to go. Because they
can't do it on private land,
And if we ban it on all public land, where are they supposed to go?
And that's the point.
Because I see a lot of people go, well, they can just go to the town over.
Well, what if the town over there says it, too?
I mean, it's something that.
So the Supreme Court has to sit and think about not just the case before them, but the ramifications to the whole world.
Another example is the Donald Trump stuff.
I mean, there's a lot of people who say, okay, I don't like what they're doing to Trump.
so they should have presidential immunity.
But it's not just about him.
If you say the president has immunity on everything,
well, does that mean once you're president,
you can just go around murdering people?
If you say the president has immunity over everything,
then you'd be saying, yes, they could just kill people.
They could literally, if you have absolute immunity as a president,
I could walk up to Ryan, shoot him in the head and kill him,
and then go, well, I have immunity.
We don't want that.
I don't want that.
So, like, you have to think about what is the ramifications of these things.
And so if they say this town can do it, then presumably every town to do it.
Every state can do it.
The federal national parks can do it.
And then everybody can do it.
And they would have nowhere to go.
They have a right to live.
You got to find a way.
I would hope so.
Yes.
So anyway.
And I think that's why I enjoy.
The reason I enjoy Supreme Court cases is you can get out of your little.
realm of politics where my side's good, your side's bad, and think about issues on a broader
scale, Drew. I like that. And these are topics. I mean, it's a sad topic, but things that are,
you know, growing and a little more significant. Some stuff I see people talking about on TV. I'm like,
why, who cares about that specific? Like, we have more important issues in front of us.
Speaking of that, things people care about, did you listen to the new Taylor Swift album? Because
I know you're a Swifty and did you like it? I have not listened yet. I've caught bits and pieces as my
wife listens around the house but I have not I've not done a listening what I've heard sounds fine
I like the one with Post Malone uh it's a lot of breakup stuff she really I think when you go out
with her you have to understand if you all break up like they're going to be a lot of songs about you
and it's not going to be nice like I would if every ex I had was able to write an album I don't know
I don't know why anyone would sign up to date her honestly she's just like let me well
that's a billion dollars but I mean I mean
Travis Kel, the people she's dating, they're doing it for themselves.
I'm just saying the moment you break up, she will air out everything.
There's like a Kim Kardashian disc track on there, apparently.
Yeah, I like that.
I do have a question of the old story.
Did they ever find Jason Kelsey's Super Bowl ring?
I don't think so.
It's gone.
They never found it.
No, because it's like probably in the dump now.
They quit looking when we were talking about it.
They quit looking.
Yeah, they're like, I mean, it's in the Cincinnati dump now.
So like, what are you going to do?
But, I mean, he can get another one, but it is kind of sad.
You lose this memento.
Do you have anything in your life that, like, if you lost it, it's not about the value
monetarily.
It's like I couldn't replace it.
Legs.
Okay.
Outside of body parts.
I meant like a physical thing.
Is there anything in your life that if you lost it, you'd be like, this is awful I could never
replace.
I know a lot of people would say they're wedding rings, but right now you're the only one.
one married.
Yeah, I'm going to lose, this thing falls off all the time.
I've accepted I'm going to lose this.
It's too big.
She knows, too.
It'll fall off when I'm just standing up.
Anything like that?
Yeah, I mean, like old pictures of family and stuff like that that you don't have on your phone.
Like, you wouldn't want to lose something like that because you can never replace it.
But, you know, I wouldn't throw it into a vat of chili either.
So, I mean, it's kind of on him for being an idiot and throwing his ring in the chili.
I don't feel that bad for him.
I sort of live my life like I could lose everything and whatever.
Yeah.
My mom always says, and she's not.
right about this, but she says it all the time.
She's like, when I pass away, you're just going to bring a dump truck to our house and throw it all the way.
I'm like, I'm not going to do that, but she genuinely thinks that.
That generation, like of our parents, they kept everything, furniture, clothes from their parents.
They really did.
They kept everything.
And I'm not like that.
Our generation, I don't think, is that way.
No, I don't think so.
Who's next?
Mark.
Mark, go ahead, Mark.
Hey, guys.
I just want to take a minute and say thank you to Mitch Ball.
I know he's getting a lot of crap right now from all over.
But the basketball spectacle from the time that Cal left and Mark Pope getting hired,
everybody's going to all these different social media outlets, going to all these different
news places.
And we're seeing the stuff that never got talked about before.
A couple of years ago, Cal did the whole thing about being a basketball school.
Okay.
but ever since then there's been growth in baseball tennis.
I mean, those programs are doing incredible things right now,
and they're not getting the notice that they should
because the basketball spectacle is kind of overshadling everything right now.
I disagree with you about that.
I think the basketball interest is part of what drove all those people to the baseball game.
I mean, part of the reason I think there's been a re-endiping.
of excitement in UK athletics.
I think it started with the Kenny Brooks hire on the women's side.
I think then the same thing happened with the Mark Pope hire.
The baseball team has been good.
The tennis team just won the SEC.
But I think part of the reason you saw a record crowd at that baseball stadium,
part of it is they're really, really good.
But part of it is there's just been a reinjection of life into UK sports.
I mean, I noted this bar.
Like we're up like 70% over last year.
over the last three weeks because people were into it.
So I actually disagree with you that it's overshadowing it.
I actually think it's helping it.
I agree with that.
It's just sad that it's a basketball spectacle that has drawn that.
But with that point made, it goes right back to Mitch Barnhart.
He has hired some incredible coaches.
He has done some incredible things in the AD department.
And it's not being seen right now because everybody's focused on.
on the Mark Pope situation.
I appreciate the call.
I mean, to be fair,
there's a lot going on with the athletic department,
even outside of basketball.
So, like, there's a lot of things going on.
But I do think the Kenny Brooks hire drew slam dunk.
Like, if that doesn't work, I'll be shocked.
The Mark Pope hire, I don't know if we can say it'll be a slam dunk,
but it certainly has injected excitement.
Wouldn't you agree?
It's a slam dunk for right now.
Yeah, it is.
Right now.
Yeah, he's still got to win games.
But I'm not sure these first two weeks could have gone much better in terms of getting people ignited.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
KSR.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J.
He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Is this T. Swift's new album?
Yes.
What is this on?
This is Fortnite with Post Malone.
Fortnight with Post Malone.
Okay.
It's called Tortured Poets Department.
Department.
Okay.
And that's, and yeah, that's what I, and I think I heard it was longer than people thought, right?
She released like 15 surprise songs.
Yeah, we need more.
Maybe more.
It's a lot of songs.
A lot of disses.
Like Shannon's Kim Kay, she gets the smoke.
All the exes.
She seems like to me she smiles in public.
But then by when, when she's not in public, she'll stab you in the eye, right?
You don't want to be on her bad list.
No, you do not.
That things, I will say this.
She knows how to draw for trivia.
Yes, she does.
Speaking of trivia, the next to last qualifier for my $5,000 prize is Thursday.
Thursday night.
My team is not qualified yet.
It's my last chance.
No, that's why it's next to last.
So you have one more after this.
Oh, okay.
Next to last qualifier.
But you've got to come and make it happen because time's running out.
I have a summer trivia question.
Yesterday, Monique approached me and asked if I would host Mean Girls trivia.
I know nothing about Mean Girls, but is that something people?
Or is that?
I think people like it.
Okay.
Well, put that on our calendar.
I'll do it.
Can I go back to Taylor Swift Trivia Night?
I don't think we mentioned who won.
I don't think we mentioned this either.
The winner of Taylor Swift Trivian night was one person.
One person.
One girl.
Her name was one woman army.
She called her, she had her boyfriend here, but her boyfriend didn't know anything.
And she won.
And she beat 45 teams by herself.
By herself.
And again, you want to see shade?
the other teams when they saw they lost to one girl, that was some shade.
I mean, they were not.
The girl won, Shannon, one person, beat everybody.
Yeah, she's a true fan, apparently, if she knows all that stuff.
If she knows stuff like what's the fifth track off of an album without looking.
She knew all of them.
That's how you know somebody's a big fan.
So, congrats to her.
Major congrats.
Be everybody by herself.
By herself.
Which is pretty unbelievable.
Who's next?
Ed.
Ed.
Ed, go ahead, Ed.
Hey.
Ted Roberts.
I want to talk about football.
Okay.
I have a friend, his name is Harry Perrick Rogers,
played on the 1950 U.K. team that played Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl and won 13 to 6.
Okay, what about it?
Well, he's 95 years old, and I think he would be a very interesting person to interview.
he's not very mobile, but his mind is still good.
And, of course, he played with Coach Bar-Bron and Jerry Clay,
Jerry, I'm trying to think of it.
He played on that.
That was a great team, maybe the best Kentucky team of all time in 1950.
So, well, I appreciate the suggestion.
And we, I hope you're doing well, sir.
And that was a great team.
Like I said, maybe the best in Kentucky.
history.
Yeah, and I'm trying to think the quarterback's name.
I can't think of it.
George Blanda.
No, the quarterback.
I don't know, man.
I'm sorry.
Do you know who it is?
Babe Pirelli.
Babe Pirely.
How's that?
Babe Pirely.
All right, there you go.
Yeah, baby, really.
All right.
Well, thank you, sir.
I appreciate.
Go ahead.
Finish what you were saying.
You already appreciated it.
Oh, okay.
No, I mean, a lot of people forget that.
Remember, Chester would always call and say it wants the statue.
for the 19th because we won a national championship in that 1950 and people don't remember that
don't even have a banner up you know just put a banner up for that team somewhere we should have
something something says that because it is very very impressive who's next Cameron Cameron go ahead
Cameron uh hey guys first time long time who are and shout out Mario that's my guy
I just have two quick questions the first is that I just realized not too long ago that I've been
using the old classic KSR app and still do I just downloaded on three
because it's much easier to use, but did you guys know that it still works?
It does still work.
We tell people it's much easier to download the On3 app.
You can set it to Kentucky, and that'll be the KSR website.
The old app works, but barely.
It works, and the ads are just awful.
Yeah, that's why we ended up switching it over.
Yeah.
The second question was just if the new coaches are already going on visits with Pope
or if they're not quite in Lexington yet or how that's going.
So Kager and Hart are, I appreciate the call, able to recruit.
Alvin Brooks is the name of the third coach that their, you know, reports were.
So let's talk about that for a second.
I appreciate the call.
So the third recruiting coach, the rumors are Alvin Brooks.
I was told it could be Brooks a couple days ago.
I was kind of asked, and I think other media members were asked,
let's not put that out because he has a job right now.
and he at Baylor at Baylor and so like let's wait until we know so I didn't yesterday
Kyle Tucker put it out so my assumption is when he put that out that means they've got him
because I don't think Kyle would have put that out unless it was unless they knew they had
him because I think Kyle probably knew about it a couple days ago too I have not talked to Kyle
Alvin Brooks would be a great get that's the guy who basically recruited all these
top recruits that went to Baylor, all of them. And Mark Pope is going to, I don't think they're
going to get the VJ Edgecom kid, but I'm sure they at least give him a call, but he will be a huge
recruiter, I think, for the future, Drew. Absolutely. We were complimenting Scott Drew when he
was on the list, but the guy in charge of recruiting people to Waco, Texas, which sounds like a
difficult job, has had great success there. His dad is Lamar's head coach and was on Billy
Gillespie's was on the coaching staff. I think he was a director of basketball operations.
His dad was working with Billy Gillespie here in Kentucky.
So his dad coached Jared Carter, I guess, a little bit.
Derek Jasper, Ramell. We'll have some Ramell scoop and Ramell connection there.
But looking up the guy in his track where he was recruiting, that's exactly what Pope needed,
and I hope they can finally get this done and sign because I think that'll be a great addition.
And this staff, if you take that, I mean, we assume the figure from BYU, that's the offensive guy,
and Pope loves him.
bring him with him and he's added two elite recruiters. That's kind of what we wanted to see out of what
Pope would build. My biggest worry, Ryan, was I know he can coach Kenny recruit, and he went out and
got two top recruiters. Here's the way I think this went. I think they thought, they tried to get
Kenny Payne. It didn't work. I think he was always getting figure in heart, always. I think they
tried to get Kenny Payne. It didn't work. I think there was some internal push from people,
in Kentucky for him to consider Orlando.
I think he kind of wanted to go in his own direction,
and he kind of won out on that,
and that's how we end up with Alvin Brooks,
assuming he's a yes, again,
I don't know that yet,
but I'm going to assume Kyle wouldn't have put that out there
unless he does, but now you get, Ryan,
two potential elite recruiters.
I know, since they announced the coach hard
and the figure of hiring,
is why didn't they do the Mark Fox?
Is that, that has been?
I don't know.
I'm not sure.
I think, well, remember, two of the jobs got posted before the other ones.
Yeah, there's always that window.
They got to get through.
Because I think UK always knew that Welch was leaving, whether Cal State or not,
so maybe they posted that earlier.
I'm not sure.
But I think it may be the case that the other job, they're just not allowed to announce it yet.
But I don't know to answer your question, but I'm not sure.
Are you still hearing there may be a UK guy on the staff in some capacity?
They want a UK guy for one of those grad assistant positions or, you know, there's a GM position.
I know there's been a lot of speculation about who would get that.
But I don't, I think that one of those may be where you see a UK guy.
I think they'd like to have a former UK guy in some role if possible.
I wish they could find a way to give Ulyss a job.
I'd love to see him hang around, whatever it is.
There are some guys that had jobs under Cal that are still here.
So like the media guy, right?
The train, like some of the trainers.
Like those people are still here and will be here for the new staff as well.
Who's next?
Austin.
Austin.
Austin. Go ahead, Austin.
First time calling a long time.
Let's have a quick question for you.
Have you heard anything about Jackson Robinson lately?
He is going to, he's testing the draft waters.
If he doesn't go to the draft, I expect him to end up at Kentucky.
he has until May 1st to get in the portal.
I think May 1st, there are two deadlines that everybody needs to remember.
May 1st is the day that you have to be in the portal if you're transferring.
So that's day one.
If a guy's going to transfer, he'll be in the portal on May 1st.
And then May 29th is the day that you have to say whether or not you're staying in the draft.
Okay?
Yeah.
So those are the two days that matter.
Well, I remember last year, Trey Mitchell didn't come around until, like,
June. I mean, you know, yes. We didn't get Antonio Reeves until June 20th last year, which was outrageous.
So once you're in the portal, you really have until the season starts to decide. Yeah.
But you have to be in the portal by May 1st. So basically, all of Kentucky's options will be on the table on May 1st. And I still think there are numerous kids, some of whom are really, really good who have not entered the portal yet.
That's exciting.
Because when you say that, it almost sounds like, you know,
there's some guys at Kentucky you've interested in.
Maybe you know.
I don't know.
I'm not saying it.
Just saying.
There's a great way to support Kentucky athletes while drinking pure alkaline water
source from natural aquifers.
Kentucky rain, R-E-I-N.com.
I have some of that.
You know, Shannon, I had it in my car for almost six months.
I was like, you know what?
I'm going to carry it inside.
I put in the refrigerator.
Yeah.
Amazing water.
Amazing.
It keeps well, too.
Water keeps.
Did you know that?
Make it rain.
Water keeps.
And that's a great thing about Kentucky rain.
Kentucky R.E.I.N.
it helps NIL deals for Kentucky athletes.
And it tastes great.
They have it at Clark's puppet shops.
Kentucky brandeds everywhere.
It's Kentucky Rain, R.E.I.
And elite water for elite athletes.
We'll take a break.
It'll be right back.
It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back.
Techie Sports Radio.
So, you know, I get these announcements, Drew, on my phone of, like, events coming.
to Rupp Arena or to the Opera House.
Yeah.
And I just got this one.
And I didn't even know this was a thing.
Coming Saturday, October 12th to Lexington Opera House,
the Lexington debut for Mom So Hard.
Oh.
What is that in tell?
Mom So Hard is the viral sensation with Kristen Hensley and Jen Smedley.
It's hilarious and fun for moms.
The ladies may be older, but they're only getting.
better. The show is rowdy, raucous, and a little bit naughty. It's Mom So Hard Ladies' Night at the
Opera House. What do you think about that, Shand? I think we need the pre-party at KS Bar and Grill.
That's what I think. Mom's so hard. I'm so hard. Everybody know what Mom's So Hard is?
It feels like you would know what that is. You don't know Mom So Hard? I look at the picture.
They do look like a couple ladies who are just like, they're going to tell you some truths,
but also while wearing their jeans and giving you stories about the crazy.
He's a kid.
I have a guilty pleasure that falls in line with this.
Abby listens to something, oh gosh, what's it called?
I think it's called I've had it.
It's two middle-aged women.
I think I love them.
They're kind of hilarious.
Okay.
Well, maybe you should go to mom.
Maybe you should go to mom so hard.
I'm going to Opera House Saturday.
I've never been going to see Pete.
Pete Davidson.
I've never been in that building somehow after living here so long, but I'm looking
forward to that.
I think I'm going to go to Rupp this weekend and watch Billy Strings.
I hear Billy Strings person.
No, I saw that the Billy Strings was.
there and this big weekend with Pete Davidson at the opera house.
Yeah, Pete Davidson, you got Billy Strings.
You go, you also got the Rolex three-day event is going on.
Big weekend.
Big party.
You know, Rolex three days like a massive event.
It is.
All the, it's three, it's, I actually found out the Rolex three-day event is four days.
Which doesn't make sense to me.
Why is it four days?
Why not call it the Rolex four-day event?
I think Rolex had a better concept of time there.
Figure that one out.
on the watch
that's good that's good it's my Kentucky
brand it drew a pun of the day you're welcome
who's up next Justin Justin Justin what's up
all right I'm going to try this again for yesterday
because I got cut off but I have an idea for schedule
okay
should schedule Murray State
they're not going to do that because Murray State
requires them to come back to Murray and Kentucky will never do that
So I think if Murray wanted to play in Rupp only, Kentucky would definitely do it.
But Murray always says you have to come back and play at Murray,
and Kentucky is not going to do that.
Okay.
Well, another one is, do you think Arkansas and Kentucky are going to have a home in a way?
I don't know.
The conference, and I appreciate the call, the conference decides your five.
So under the SEC rules, used to be you played five teams twice.
Okay.
Now with the way there's two more teams, now in theory you should only play three teams twice.
And Kentucky's, if that's the case, will probably be Florida, Vandy and Tennessee,
because those are the three we always get.
So my guess is we only end up playing Arkansas once, Drew, but that's just a guess.
Yeah, I wouldn't expect Arkansas, but when Caliperia made the jump over there,
the SEC might revisit that, but I still expected to be the three you said.
They have not announced yet how the schedule is going to be with Oklahoma and Texas.
My guess is they're going to say 18 games and you play three teams twice, everybody else wants.
And if that's the case, it's almost certain.
Ours will be Florida, Tennessee, Vandy.
Right.
And you can almost guarantee that Arkansas game will be at Rupp Arena.
Well, it's our turn because we were there last year.
So when you only play a team once, they alternated.
Now, last year, did we play them twice last year?
Yeah.
They came here.
Yeah.
Oh, well then.
But the year before that, we went there with Antonio Reeves.
That's exactly right.
You're exactly right about that.
The year before, we only played them once and were there.
So I think this time, Ryan, it would be here is, I believe, how it would work.
That will be one of the hardest tickets ever at Rupp Arena when Arkansas comes in here next year.
Without question.
Who's up next?
Bob and James Town.
Bob, how are you, Bob?
Doing good, Matt.
Talking about the Reds there really hot.
this year, as you well know.
Ellie, Delacruz.
They're 12 and 10. That's not that hot.
Well,
their attendance records is way up
and they've got
some sticks this year. No,
they don't. They have two guys who can hit.
I mean, I love you, Bob, but they have
two dudes who can hit. Most of their team
is hitting now under 215.
Tears and
Delacruz, they're... Those are the
two. Yeah.
Well, see, the time I give him a lot of time,
doesn't have anything, Shannon.
He's waiting for to cut him off.
I gave you the floor, Bob.
I'll tell you what, I'll give you 15 seconds of whatever you want to talk about as a payback
for me hanging up on you at times this year.
Go.
Okay, well, this Supreme Court thing about the homeless.
I received the Kentucky legislature wanting to pass that crime bill and making
homelessness criminal offense.
It's outrageous.
All right.
Well, thank you, Bob.
I appreciate, well, I thought he pauses.
Yeah.
Maybe waiting for you to jump in.
But when I don't jump in, he doesn't.
Bob, I hope your health is good.
Are you okay?
Yeah, doing good.
Good.
All right.
I'm glad.
Thank you very much.
See Bob in the remote soon.
Who's going to be our highest UK player picked in the draft?
It probably would be Drew Phillips.
Look like it.
Which is really, if somebody had told me that when he decided to go pro, I would have said, no way.
But he's going to be the highest one picked.
They're now saying Drew Phillips.
Phillips, Ray Davis, and Trevin Wallace all have third round grades.
So we might have three guys going on the second day of the draft.
I've even seen Phillips is in the second round of some mock drafts, which is just, hey, it's good for Kentucky because they've had this pipeline of secondary players going to the draft for several years now.
But also, I think back to that frat situation where it turned out he wasn't even a part of it.
He missed half a year.
That significantly set back his college career.
I'm glad it's still ending with him going to the NFL.
I forgot he was part of that.
That's right.
He wasn't part of it, but he got pulled into it.
He got pulled into it.
That's right.
Well, it would be interesting because I'm not sure Kentucky will get anyone drafted after that.
They may have three second day guys, and then maybe Jeremy Flacks gets drafted, but probably not.
And then that's a thing about Ben Bates is getting some love?
You mean Brandon Bates?
Yeah, I don't know.
If I if so, Larry's on a few boards, but I, you know, I'd.
Somebody may take a shot with Larry at the very end of the draft.
I just don't know we'll hear him as early as the other guys we've mentioned.
That's true.
Who's next?
Jay.
Jay, go ahead, Jay.
Hey, Matt, just an idea for trivia.
And you could do a thump the Schwab in honor of the late Howie Schwab.
And you could be the Schwab maybe make it a Kentucky team.
If it's NFL, everyone will stump me.
I'd like to do a stump the Schwab with Corey Price on UK trivia.
That's a good idea.
That's actually not a bad idea.
I think that would be interesting.
Can people beat him?
because I don't know how many people could do it.

I mean, that's really kind.
I mean dead serious,
because I know you meant it.
and I probably won't do it, but I thank you all for,
because that really is nice.
