Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Starting point is 00:02:05 This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio, Wednesday, April the 24th. I am Matt Jones here at the KS Bar and Grill. It's Wings Day, Dollar Wings, all day, all night, all year. Not all year, just today. But you can come out, 859,000. 280 2287 on the Clark's puppet shop phone line.
Starting point is 00:02:30 A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-774-5254. In this edition, sponsored by a T.J. Smith law office, you call T.J. I'll make them pay. Sitting here watching. They're doing the Mel's best available drafts tomorrow night. I realized, you know, I have to do the post-sgame show. I realized that at least the beginning of the draft, I'll be doing my trivia. So I'm not going to be able to pay quite the attention that I thought I was to the beginning of it, Drew. So. Usually Todd McShay gets on there. Guys, I got to apologize and miss the first three picks.
Starting point is 00:02:59 I was in trivia. But I have the rest of it. The rest of it's got it. I've got the rest of it. I just may miss the first few picks due to trivia. I'll have it on here, but I might be distracted. So the first round post-game show for the NFL draft could be a little shaky until 2 in the morning, but the 19th pick is the sleeper. Your strength is really picks 5 through 30 anyway.
Starting point is 00:03:24 That's your strength. That's those top five picks. Yeah, so, well, they know those picks. It's going to be a quarterback. I can talk about those guys. But like they say Mel's best available wide receiver, the fifth one is Xavier Worthy from Texas. I've been watching his tape.
Starting point is 00:03:37 I'll have you. Yeah. I'm ready for him. Is he an impact player? First of all, great speed. Yeah. He can get away from his defenders. That's key.
Starting point is 00:03:45 He can create, oh, we use in the face. We create separation. Separation. You understand. That's what we do. Yesterday, I researched several mock drafts to see who's the 19th pick. And I think, I don't, I didn't see many of the ones. that were the same. You have lots of options for number 19. You're going to have to learn a lot of
Starting point is 00:04:00 people. Well, just when I, as soon as the 19th pick comes, be watching on my social media, I'm going to say sleeper of the draft. Sleeper of the draft. Sleeper of the draft right there. 859-28027. A lot of basketball stuff to talk about. But before we go, I need to tell you a story. Yes. We can't wait to hear it. So last night I went to the Reds. Yes. I don't know if you saw this, Shannon. Santiago Espinal. You remember yesterday. I said that I would bet. he would never get a hit the rest of the year season maybe the rest of his career going into last night's game shannon only five hits all season okay he was batting 118 he was due 1 18 when i got to the game last night i knew i just knew reverse curse dude's going to get hits yeah first time up bloop single
Starting point is 00:04:50 i went well you get lucky right bloop single second time line drive double all right whatever things happen third time knocks the you know covering off but it's out fourth time home run he got three hits last night he'd only had five all year ryan and then he gets three last night and person after person coming to my seat we think about espinal clearly listeners finding me just to talk trash about espinal last night it's going to come to the point that the Cincinnati Reds going to start calling you and one of their guys gets in a slump, hey Matt, our guys down a little bit.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Would you trash him on the radio? Because every time you do that, they end up having a great game. Every time. I love just the KSR curse in full effect there. You need to just find a guy you want to play well. Go on the radio and basically call him a terrible human being that doesn't deserve to hold a baseball bat and then watch them play well.
Starting point is 00:05:47 He was the MVP of the game. It was the MVP in the game. You just trashed him yesterday morning. After I said he was the worst player in the league. You said he wish you. You could bet that he couldn't get a hit for the rest of the season. Yes, and I would have done it. And he goes three for four with a home run.
Starting point is 00:06:04 I couldn't believe it. What were the odds on him to even do that? Get a hit. I looked on on Drive Kings. He was Shannon plus 2,900 to get three or more hits. You should have bet that. I almost did because I was just like, why not? Why not?
Starting point is 00:06:20 You know, and then he does get it. Wow. Absolutely crazy. But that's not what I want to talk about. Okay. So I'm driving to the game with a friend, and it's, it's raining, okay? And I'm thinking, oh, the game might get postponed or at least, you know, or maybe canceled. So I thought, you know what?
Starting point is 00:06:38 I'm a little early. How about I get dinner and then we'll see if it's going to rain? Good idea. So I call my friend, Tall's wife, Tiffany, known her since we were in high school, actually. Okay? Call her. She lives in northern Kentucky. I said, give me a place close to the interstate in Northern Kentucky that I could eat before the game just to wait it out, right?
Starting point is 00:07:03 And she kind of isn't sure, I think I, you know, you know, well, what about this? What about this? I said, look, just pick a place. You live up here. You tell me. And she goes, well, there's this place people in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky love. And she was like, we like it okay. It's called Oriental Walk.
Starting point is 00:07:22 All right. Do you know anything about this? Do not. She said to me, I don't know much about the guy. He's always bragging on TV that he knows George Bush, which I think is a really funny thing to go on TV, especially in 2024. Can you imagine like going on TV and being like, well, I know George Bush. Isn't that a weird thing to brag on? And are people bringing him on TV so he can just talk about how he knows George Bush?
Starting point is 00:07:47 That he knows George. Is it a commercial? Does he buy these spots? I don't know. It just seems like a weird thing to 16. years after he's been president. You know what? I thought that's interesting. I pull up. Ryan, this is a place like you're stepping back in time. Okay. First of all, out front of the restaurant is an Oriental Walk limousine. And it is painted with like all these Chinese characters and symbols and it says Oriental Walk. He's clearly designed this himself. It's bizarre. And I can't imagine
Starting point is 00:08:19 when you would take it somewhere, where you would go, Drew, but there is a massive in front of the restaurant, Oriental Walk limousine. I want to go there, have a great night, and see if they'll take me home. Had too many socky bombs? All right, do you remember, and we're a little older, and so some of the folks,
Starting point is 00:08:36 you probably need to be over 35 to appreciate this. So do you remember what Chinese restaurants used to look like in like the 80s and 90s? Yes. Okay, so I want you to picture that. Everything's red. Or yellow, and there's, like, things hanging from the ceiling, and it's kind of nice, right? Like Hunan out there on Nicholsville Road.
Starting point is 00:09:00 That's what it used to look like, remember? Yep. In my mind, when I'm a kid, when you think about Chinese restaurants, that's what they look like. Because, you know, nowadays, people like, Mario, you're used to a Chinese restaurant in every corner. It didn't used to be like that. Oh, no. It used to be like one. One in a town.
Starting point is 00:09:17 There might be one. And it was, they had the takeout ones, but then there was also the sit-down ones that were always kind of nice. Kind of nice. And they all looked the same. They did. Am I wrong about that? No, right. They all were, you know.
Starting point is 00:09:32 A lot of gold. A lot of gold. That's right. And like figures of like Buddha or whatever, like all this stuff everywhere. Scenes of China, like big. Scenes of China. All right. If you want to go back in time to what Hunan look like.
Starting point is 00:09:48 In 1989, that is what the Oriental Walk looks like. It literally, I almost walked in, and you know how you get deja vu? And I'm like, what is this? Where am I? Because it looks just like that. The pictures, the guy who owns it is clearly a character. He's the one that knows George Bush, right? There's pictures of him with George Bush.
Starting point is 00:10:14 What's funny? Not one picture of him with George Bush. There's pictures of him everywhere. You would think, Drew, there'd be a picture of him with George Bush. No picture of him with George. I was ready for you to tell me. He was just decorated with George Bush drugs. He has, you know, like Hollywood has the Walk of Fame.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Yeah. He has the customer walk of fame. Oh, wow. His best customers, but not like Jeff Rubies, where it's like him with celebrities. It's just people that live in Northern Kentucky because I recognize some of the names. It stars presumably of the. the people, Drew, that eat there the most. I love that. I love that.
Starting point is 00:10:50 I actually kind of think it's brilliant. Wouldn't it be nice to have like stars of like Paul? I was going to say Paul. Paul. Here at the ball, right? Lenny Bluebee. Yeah, right? That's Rachel's husband.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Rachel's husband. That's what, that's what it is. Wow. And I just sat there. Food was very good. Was it good? Food was very good. But, and it wins like the award, best Chinese in Cincinnati,
Starting point is 00:11:17 like every year. This is actually in Northern Kentucky. Apparently there's one in Cincinnati, too. But, Ryan, I recommend it. It's off Butter Milk Parkway in, I don't know, that's Villa Hills or whatever, you know, all of Northern Kentucky runs together. But it was like you were going back in time.
Starting point is 00:11:34 When you were describing it, I think all of my mind, especially went right back to walking into those places in the 80s. And it was something kind of special when you walk in. Like you said, the statues, the gold, the things named the ceiling. Everyone was dressed up. I was underdressed. Like the other customers were? I mean, they weren't in suits, but they looked nice.
Starting point is 00:11:53 I was wearing a hoodie, and I was underdressed for it. People, there was somebody had a birthday dinner. Like, it's clearly a thing. And I feel like in Villa Hills off Buttermilk Parkway, they have taken 1989 and just flopped it right there in the middle of the road. I love it. People still come. So I'm recommending the restaurant. Food was good.
Starting point is 00:12:15 I was going to say. Do we get the thumbs up? Food is very good. I'm going. And it's the old style menus where they're big. Oh, yeah. You know, they're huge in plastic. And, like, they're, it's.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Can't see the person across from you while you're reading it. Exactly right. So anyway, that was my trip last night. Makes me want to go. Just hearing all that. Going back, it's like he says, step back in time a little bit. So if you've been, if you live in Northern Kentucky, have you ever been to this place? And when does he use the limbo?
Starting point is 00:12:38 That's what I want to know. When is, when is he using that limo? There's a picture of him on his Facebook in the limo driving down the street. Is he in the limo? Yeah. What's his name? His name's something long, right? I'm not sure what his name is.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Yeah, I'm just looking at their Facebook. You can see the limo and you can see what it looks like. And if you're in Northern Kentucky, let me know if you've been there. Now, Kentucky is officially announced this morning, hires Alvin Brooks. Big-time recruiter. Basically, this was what we kind of heard was coming. I would say, so Kenny turned Kentucky down last week. I think then there was this Orlando Antigua, what was going to happen with him.
Starting point is 00:13:21 You know, we've talked about that. And then basically I was told they got a guy, but he's on a staff, and it can't get out. And it really didn't until yesterday. And Alvin Brooks is coming, big time recruiter. Maybe one of the three or four best recruiters in the country, a huge get, Drew from Mark Pope. Yeah, I think everyone when Pope was hired, we knew recruits. was going to be as big as issue. Obviously, we saw Pope's name,
Starting point is 00:13:48 carries a lot of weight in Kentucky, but outside of Kentucky, we've all wondered if he'll have what it takes to build the roster he needs. They still have to go out and do it, but the fact that he got Jason Hart from the G-League that just crumbled, and now you're adding Alvin Brooks,
Starting point is 00:13:59 who also already has a national championship. He's been at Baylor eight or nine years, been kind of right-hand man there forever. I don't think you could have gotten two better hires on that recruiting angle, adding him with your BYU, offensive guy you brought with you. I love this staff, and I love Brooks completing it today.
Starting point is 00:14:15 And I kind of like just, we did the Baylor thing and then still kind of pulled a little bailor. Well, I mean, we pulled the guy that gets the guys, right? Yeah. I mean, if you go look, they've had in the last five years, probably five or six top ten recruits. He was the primary recruiter, Ryan, on all of them. So my worry was, can Pope recruit? Well, he went and got as good a recruiter as you can get. Like we said yesterday, if you're able to pull top recruits to go play for you in Waco, Texas,
Starting point is 00:14:45 at Baylor, you're doing something right. But I remember when Scott Drew's name was really floating around here, they talked about him bringing his whole staff, and that's the reason why they wanted him to was that guy, you know, to come within a package deal with Scott Drew. So he's created a staff that in my mind is exactly what you would have wanted. You have your sort of offensive guru that's been his right hand man, the Corey Fear. You have two recruiters.
Starting point is 00:15:09 And Jason Hart, a young kind of up-and-coming recruiter, and Alvin Brooks, who's proved it for years at Baylor. And then you have Mark Fox, who's kind of run NIL and stuff at Georgetown, and it's kind of been in an administrative role. I think that's a slam dunk of a staff so far. And I actually think anybody who is worried about Pope from the Department of creating a staff, I think he's passed that first test. Yeah, and I had a small worry, Pope might get a little too into the nostalgia
Starting point is 00:15:38 and force one of those spots to a fellow UK guy. And I'm thinking, you are the UK guy, you are the nostalgia. We don't have to have too much of that. You're it. Everyone will still be around you. I love that he went out and got two elite recruiters. And I said a minute ago, the guy he's trusted since he's been at BYU and has run that offense so well. So it's great news.
Starting point is 00:15:53 I think it's a great start. And now the question is, can you get a team for next year? Richmond writes me and says, tell people, think of the Chinese restaurant on Seinfeld, and that's exactly what it looks like. He's exactly right. You know when they go into the Seinfeld episode? That is exactly what that place looks like. That's a very good call.
Starting point is 00:16:14 Usually had like dark red carpet or green carpet. Everything is red, yellow, and gold. Yeah. Right, like that's everything in there. That's the Oriental Walk. We'll take a break and be right back. It's good Techie Sports Radio. Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Part of the reason I wanted to talk about this was to get the stories. Because I knew that place had stories. Oh, yeah. One person writes, Matt, you know, people get married at the Oriental Walk. The limo then takes them to their honeymoon. Oh, nice. Also, people use it for prom, and they take the Oriental Walk limo to their prom. I think we have an idea for Billy.
Starting point is 00:16:52 He's looking for a venue. Yes. One person writes, Matt, in the back, there's a picture of famous Republicans playing poker. It has Reagan, Bush, Trump, and Nixon. I can't say too much about that because I have that picture of Democrats. Yes. I think my mom maybe gave it to me. It was like FDR, Kennedy, Clinton, and Obama.
Starting point is 00:17:17 I think I have that. And they're playing poker. Yeah, it's like a painting. I think they do one for Republicans and they do one for Democrats. Which room is that leaning on the wall? It's on the floor. But it's in one of the rooms in Louisville, I think. I have to go to this Oriol and Wall place.
Starting point is 00:17:33 One person writes, Matt, everyone in Northern Kentucky knows the Oriental Walk. It's everything you said. Also, you can pay $50 and they'll put your anniversary on the sign up front. How could you not do that? Done. What says love Drew like, hey, Drew and Abby, happy anniversary on the sign at the Oriental Walk. One of the coincidence.
Starting point is 00:17:52 I have $50. That's perfect. I know what I'm doing this November. All right, let's, before we go, the phone, let's talk roster. Okay. I'm going to give you some updates. Are you ready? Ready.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Great Osabor. His visit gets got pushed back a little bit. He's coming next week. I still think Kentucky's the leader, but he's also. also visiting other schools. Quick answers. Does that worry you at all, Drew? No. I mean, I wish it were done, but I still am optimistic about him making the move. No, I feel very confident. He'll still be here. Are you still sticking by your scoop? They will have some great news. Shannon, he's still sticking by scoop. I'm sticking with scoop.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Scoop says it. I believe it. You got to play the song, though, there. Oh, yeah. I didn't know that was new scoop. Well, no, it's the same scoop. But as long as he says it's scoop. All right. Aiden Mahoney, that's the point guard for St. Mary's. He has entered the portal and is going to visit Kentucky. Okay. He was first team West Coast Conference. That's the conference to BYU, and was in for many years.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Average 14 points a game. Coming to Kentucky, a lot of people think if Kentucky wants him, he would, we would be the favorite. Do you like that? I like that. His name popped up yesterday. I think he was two-time first team all West Coast. He can shoot, but he also does a lot of his work at the rim. I was watching highlights.
Starting point is 00:19:13 He can really finish an attack. So, I mean, there's a lot of names out there, but if we ended up with him, I'd be okay with that. You like it? I know nothing about him other than what you just told me right now. He's gotten getting all these guys that would be on my TV late at night. I remember that kid. Like, I don't remember particularly having strong thoughts,
Starting point is 00:19:30 but I would see him his hair flopping along as he would drive to the basket. And I know if you're on the internet, people will complain as soon as a name pops up, but he's about to visit Yukon. So if the Yukon is interested, I hope you all can understand. This is a name. He's choosing between. Yukon and Kentucky. I'm going to go ahead and say,
Starting point is 00:19:46 Yukon seems to do a pretty good job of deciding what players they want. Jackson Robinson declares for the draft, but a report came out later that he will likely also enter the portal before May 1st. There's been some debate whether he needs to enter the portal or not, because if he graduates, he actually doesn't need to enter the portal. Regardless, I don't think,
Starting point is 00:20:05 Drew, the fact, like, he's entering the draft, but I also doesn't think that means he's not going to come back to college. And if he comes back to college, I think he's coming to get done. Oh, yeah, we're still keeping a. close eye on that one looking at the draft boards i mean he's getting a second round grade that's a
Starting point is 00:20:18 guy with how he plays and could come to kentucky really improve that status for next year i don't think his announcement he's looking at the draft affects my belief whether he comes here either way if he if he if they tell him his first round pick he'll probably go the draft if they don't ryan i think he probably ends up at kutk and what you told us yesterday he has until the end of may he has the until the may 29th to decide about the draft okay so now if he decides not against the You don't have to say you're coming to Kentucky until school starts, honestly, if you don't want to. But most of them would. I'd say if you're Pope and staff, you're going to hold a spot open for that guy.
Starting point is 00:20:53 No doubt. He would be, if he comes here, he'll be our best play. I think so. Here, Osabar. I mean, we're going to have, by the way, I hope people realize we're going to have the most Utah team that's ever. Like, we basically have stolen the state of Utah, or at least tried. Hey, they're a good basketball state. That's fine.
Starting point is 00:21:08 And whatever's going on in Robin's head, I assume Mark Pope is very. very well informed of what's happening and he knows how to plan for this. The biggest piece of news probably just nationally is Jaden Quaintens, that's a 16-year-old, who has two years of eligibility. He dropped Arkansas from his list. Of course, he committed to Cal here. Yes. He dropped Arkansas.
Starting point is 00:21:29 Kentucky was supposed to go see him last night. That visit got canceled. I'm not sure if it got canceled by him or got canceled by us, but it got canceled. Most people think he's down to Louisville and Memphis and the sums of money being thrown around for that guy. And again, I don't believe them, but it's still eye-opening money are unbelievable. Louisville and Memphis trying to make a splash. Most people seem to think he's going to Memphis, but Louisville fans think he's going there. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:21:57 It does seem to really like Louisville. There's some kind of connection there. I don't know it, but an old coat, something or something. He likes Louisville a lot. Honestly, a little glad Arkansas is out of the mix, get Louisville out of the mix and let him go to Memphis. I would have wish he worked out could have been a wildcat, but I'll still. be good with the two Brits as long as we get great over us. If this would be great for us if he goes there.
Starting point is 00:22:17 I mean, like he's, we won't know him really, honestly, no offense, but we won't. You get him for two years because he's so young. Well, maybe. You get him for a year. He can go back in the portal next year to do once, yeah. So does Louisville have that kind of money they're talking about NIL money
Starting point is 00:22:32 to give to somebody? I don't know. I've heard they have a lot of money for basketball, but I also, I mean, they've lost a lot of football players. Now, they'll tell you it's not because of NIL, when you talk about the amount that they've lost, and like, we've had a bunch of people leave, but probably only one of them was a big, like the defensive back was going to play. That was tough.
Starting point is 00:22:53 But they've had a lot of guys leaving who were going to play a lot. So I don't know. Should I answer to that question is I don't know? Well, I mean, I heard like $2 million for that guy floating around. I don't believe any of the money numbers. But his floating money numbers are a lot higher than everybody else. Yes. The thing is, Shannon, he's 16 years old.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Do you think a 16-year-old can come to college and play immediately? Probably not. I mean, unless you're just like some sort of phenom. Especially a big. Yeah. He's a big, you know, I just, that seems. Going against a grown-ass man. I'm not saying, I mean, if he's Uber talented, I'm not saying it can't work,
Starting point is 00:23:34 but it's just hard to see. He'll be 17 when the first game happens. Won't even be 18 years old yet. Well, before all, just blew up and he was Kentucky's top commit, I was glad to have him, but part of me thought he better not be our only big, good option in the front court in SEC play, because we saw what happens with freshmen going to get some of those guys in the SEC, and I really worry about a 16-year-old, even though he is very skilled. We'd love to have him, but, you know, I'd still prefer a veteran if we can lock down that.
Starting point is 00:24:00 I mean, when you consider there are guys in college basketball, including probably one or two for us, that will be 24 years old, And then there are 16-year-old. Like, the difference there is unbelievable, Ryan. Between a 24-year-old and a 16-year-old? We've seen it the last couple of years in the college game, man. It makes a big difference. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:22 So, anyway, that's your update. We'll take your calls when we come back and see what you want to think about. People, I'm amazed how many of you have been to the Oriental Walk. It's northern Kentucky. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J., he'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky, Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:24:43 Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. 859-8-0-22-87. One person writes, Matt, it's not a real Chinese place from the 80s unless there's a coy pond. Was there a coy pond? Yes, there was. I forgot to say that.
Starting point is 00:24:57 There was a coy pond with live fish. It was right below me where I was sitting in the booth. So, yes, there was a coy pond. Sounds like they check the box, as Mitch Barnhart says. They have it all. Check the box. It seems to me weird. and again, it was a nice place, so I'm not complaining.
Starting point is 00:25:15 But it seems to me weird that you're allowed to have live fish in a building. Like, you know what I mean? Yeah. Just like out. Yeah, not in a aquarium and a tank. Yeah, this is just like out. I mean, they don't come to your table, but like they swim around. You should have one.
Starting point is 00:25:30 But you could. I mean, I didn't, but you could. Places like that you just described, they're gone. They're, you know, it's not exist anymore. We don't have one in Lexington. We were just talking about it. Is there a place like that in Lexington? Nope.
Starting point is 00:25:40 I don't think there's a place like that in Louisville. There's, Shannon, there's that one out there on Shelbyville Road that's like, I think it's called Oriental House. Is that place still exist? I have never been to that place, so I don't know if it's still there or not. It existed for a while, and it would look like that, but I don't know if it still does now or not. We have the number one buffet. That's still been number one.
Starting point is 00:26:01 They got a little different. Who's up first? Austin. Austin, go for it, Austin. Good morning, guys. I'm super excited about the Alvin Brooks hireman. And so I was just wondering if maybe there's a possibility that he could bring any of them recruits with them, specifically VJ Edgecom. Well, I mean, Vijay Edgecom is the one everybody would like, obviously, and I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:26:22 He has signed a national letter of intent. So they would have to let him out of that. I mean, I think if he pushed the issue, they probably would. I have not, there are obviously people speculating that, but I have not heard anything, Drew, to suggest that that's happening. if it's going to happen, we'll probably find out today because I'm sure he is going to be asked about that sometime in the next 24 hours. Yeah, that's a name Kentucky fans want because he was considering Kentucky when he picked Baylor. He's an elite recruit in the incoming class.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Another name, people are watching, it's already on Baylor's team, is Langston Love because Brooks was his primary recruiter. Langston Love. I like the name. Brooks actually went head to head with Chin Coleman for him I was reading this morning. So he's a guard that came off the bench. That's another one if you're just. looking at who Brooks recruited. He was one of his...
Starting point is 00:27:10 Well, he also had the... Joe... What is it? Walker, the kid that was a high... The draft pick. I think he's actually... There's a guy projecting the draft this year that he... Keante George... Keante George was a guy that he recruited. So it'd be nice if you could take one of those guys.
Starting point is 00:27:28 I'm not sure, Ryan, that'll happen this year. No, but just, you know, he's probably on guys for next year's class. Oh, for sure. You know, that'll now persuade him to go to Kentucky. It's more so his phone book and his connection. really than current players. That's what you want moving forward. There's a guy that told Jack Pilgrim, he talked to a coach at another school this morning who said basically Kentucky could not have hired a better assistant. That's high cotton. I've noticed the, I mean, I know the phrase. I just didn't know that that was going to be what
Starting point is 00:27:58 you were saying. We're getting a lot of love from the national media. Well, it's going to be interesting. That's a really good point. We, the national media has really hated us for the last 15 years under Cal. With the exception of the people that really like Cal like Seth and Mike DeCorsi. It's going to be weird having, here's one thing that's going to be weird. Probably the two national media people that are the closest to Mark Pope are Matt and Orlando and Jeff Goodman. It's going to be weird to have Jeff Goodman in our lives again. Yeah. You know, Jeff Goodman's been gone for a decade. Like, I mean, maybe, well, really, I mean, he and Cal never got along. Or he complained about a seat at Rupp. Yeah, I mean, so now you're going to have Jeff Goodman,
Starting point is 00:28:38 breaking UK news. That's going to be really weird, Drew, isn't it? It is. And I don't know all their relationships, but it seemed a lot of them did not care of for Cal. And we would even go to war for Cal. Now I'm having to change my mind like, am I going to have to like these people now? We were defensive for 15 years and now they're being complimentary. Yeah. And then Alvin Brooks is a guy when it was announced, every national media member was like, that dude's awesome. So I think you're going to have this situation where all these people who kind of were kind of were cut out of UK basketball, we'll be back. I think you're going to see a lot more national access for people, right?
Starting point is 00:29:17 There became a point in the last few years that the national people didn't even come to town because they knew nobody would talk to them. I think that might change now. There was that whole era there where all the national people, the only thing I wanted to do about Kentucky was a hatchet job, you know, on Cal. Now I think you're right. I think we're going to see more. Because Mark Pope's like one of the most beloved guys. And I also think you're seeing that he just works with media more.
Starting point is 00:29:43 And with that said, he will be on KSR Friday at 11 that's now confirmed. So Friday at 11, Mark Pope will come on here for his first KSR. Before we get off Cal, can I tell you about my dream last night? Uh-oh. You had a dream about Cal or Mark Pope? And I need you guys to decipher this dream for me why I dreamt this. Okay. This is going to be weird.
Starting point is 00:30:05 I mean, this is going to be. I mean, it was like one of those true life, real dreams. When I woke up, I really thought it happened. All right. I went out in no parking lot, and somebody had stolen my car. My car was gone. Okay. And the one guy who came to my rescue to help me find it was John Caliperi.
Starting point is 00:30:25 I was in his car. We were riding around the parking lot. Couldn't find my car. He was even offered to drive me to my house. And we were talking. You think that's like your subconscious telling you? that you miss him? Well, I'm asking you guys.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Is that what it is? Maybe. It sounds like it to me, yeah. It sounds like your subconscious is saying, maybe I miss him and deep down he loved me even if he didn't show me. It is like somehow Cal in the car like together as a metaphor. Like, you know, somebody stole your car. Maybe somebody stole your coach.
Starting point is 00:30:56 You feel like Arkansas stole your heart. Yeah, still your heart. Maybe. Maybe. I see it differently or kind of the same. But at this time, you know, a lot of people didn't follow Cal Quentin yesterday. Orlando day before maybe this is Ryan's body telling him you you're supposed to follow cow you and cow in that car together maybe you feel like you should be going to fade
Starting point is 00:31:15 Arkansas sports radio Arkansas sports radio asser right you can go start asser oh and the yesterday the non-compete thing happened you know oh wow your your non-compete's gone you can go start asser and just and you can go hey cow I'm here for your asser And you can have it go. How perfect would that be? We're piecing it together right now. That was your dream. That was your dream.
Starting point is 00:31:41 Who's next? Jim. Jim, go ahead, Jim. Hey, Matt. Yes. We have this in common. I saw my mother graduate from college, and you're going to see your mother graduate from college.
Starting point is 00:31:56 That's a rare event. Well, she's graduated from college and law school. This is Divinity School. But yes, we do have that in common. Yes. my brother went to Dallas Theological Seminary. Oh, really? He also graduated, so that Tom Paine was married and he was played on with Rupp.
Starting point is 00:32:20 I met him as an acquaintance, but they lived in Cooperstown, which was off campus. Gotcha. Well, I'm excited to go to the graduation. I appreciate the call. I'm, you know, my mom's like, we're going to all the activities. She said we're going to the chapel. Yes. We're going to the, apparently they're having a Texas barbecue.
Starting point is 00:32:43 We're going to the Texas. We're going to the Texas barbecue. I was like, you know what? We should, well, actually, I won't say this. She won't want me to say this where we're staying. But it's very exciting. We've got the graduation. I've got the tickets.
Starting point is 00:32:56 And she's going to have her cap and gown. And it's going to be, I'm very proud of it. And you've got to wear your hoodie that says, I'm the proud son of an honor graduate. I think some of it I might have to dress up a little bit more than that. I don't think they want me to wear a hoodie to the graduation. That should be your travel clothes. You're comfortable every time you stop.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Someone will ask about it. Yes. Spread the word all the way to Texas. She only has one more paper. She keeps me up to date how many papers she has left. And she has one more paper due. And I told her she needs to go celebrate when she turns in her final paper to celebrate her time as a student being over.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Although I think she's going to go right back to school. I think she's going to go get like a Ph.D. or something like she's she she loves it at our show on friday she said she had two more papers to do so she's got one done okay she's skit she took a break from the paper to come see us friday took mariotto lunch he and larry hashed everything out they've no bad beef there and then we and then we went from there who's next danny dany go ahead dandy hey matt yeah i've got a question here like i'm a big NBA fan and a lot of the fun of it's been watching the ex-UK guys, but kind of organically watching last night, Booker and towns, I almost feel like they're cow guys now.
Starting point is 00:34:06 Like, I don't know. It's like, I don't know if you saw like Kyle Wilcher posted himself on Twitter wearing an Arkansas jersey. Who posted himself wearing an Arkansas jersey? Wilter, Kyle Wilter. He's like doing the three goggles wearing an Arkansas jersey. But he came back later. He came back later and said he was just supporting his coach and that he'd all.
Starting point is 00:34:26 always be Kentucky. You know, I, look, here's what I'll say about those guys. It's interesting you said that, because I watched a couple games on the weekend, and I saw, you know, the Kentucky guys Booker and a couple other people play. They're still Kentucky guys to me. When I heard Tyrese Maxie won, most improved player, I'm happy. They're Kentucky guys. The thing to remember is Cal will be at Arkansas, but it ain't going to be for more than four or five years. Those dudes have the rest of their careers and their lives as part of Kentucky, at least in my mind. Yeah, I just, like Malik Monk saying he's going to go to Arkansas games and not the UK. Well, he was a very unique case because he's from Arkansas, Malik Monk.
Starting point is 00:35:09 And he, you know, he, I still think in 15 years, Malik Monk's going to be at Kentucky Games. I mean, I still think, you know, I mean, and I appreciate the call, think about Boogie. I mean, nobody was more adamantly pro-Cal during all that than Bush. and he did that interview in which he said Kentucky would regret it and all that, but he ended it by going. In the end, I still bleed blue and I want us to succeed. I feel like Drew, that's how most of them feel. Yeah, even like Wall said, you can like both. You can say I'm going to root for Cal at Arkansas, but I'm still 100% of Wildcat and all those things. There'll be some that pop up at games and they'll wave and support Cal, but long term, they'll be wildcats.
Starting point is 00:35:50 The Memphis and UMass players. I mean, did they wear Kentucky jersey? No. No. I mean, they would come see Cal. Supported Cal. Support a cow. But they're still Memphis and UMass people, and I feel like that's how the Kentucky players will be. I don't think it'll be going to game. I think it'll be they'll pop in practices like they would over here. Every once in a while a photo would leak out of an NBA guy just coming through and saying how to the team and moving on. I think that's true. Bluegrass Home Center. We were there Friday. Open in London, Kentucky. You can visit Bluegrass Homecenter.com. Family-owned business. Starting point is 00:36:45 KS.R. Welcome back. Take your Sports Radio here at KS Bar and Grill. One person writes on the text machine, it's my Kentucky-branded Dream Interpretation of the Day. you go to Kentucky brad at Kentucky bradda.com. When person writes, Matt, I'm in the business of interpreting dreams. Oh, didn't even know that was a business, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:37:03 Did you know that was a business? No, but I do now. When someone is driving you in a car, it means they have control over you. Uh-huh. Cowell was controlling you. Does that mean John Cal Perry has control over you? Maybe. I mean, he was being super nice.
Starting point is 00:37:21 Yeah, but that's what they do. They start out, it would be nice with the control, and then you never know where that goes. So is your subconscious telling you that you're being driven by John Caliperi? I don't know. That's why I wanted to ask you guys to help me figure it out because it was super real. It was as real as real could be for a dream. Would you say it happened to your car? It was just gone?
Starting point is 00:37:43 Somebody stole it. There's got to be something. It was gone. Tell dream doctor to. What do you think a dream doctor makes a year? I'm just curious. I don't know. Not enough.
Starting point is 00:37:53 They need to make more, whatever it is. I don't know what a dream doctor makes. Since we're talking about sleeping, can I tell you just a quick Max thing? Yeah. So Max is in town. Okay. He's in town for a few days. So he's staying in my guest room.
Starting point is 00:38:06 I love everything about Max. He makes me laugh. He's fun to have around. He cleans up after himself. I like him. He has one trait, though. Drives you crazy? That we got to work on.
Starting point is 00:38:18 He goes out at night with his friends. and he usually ends up like drinking or whatever. And that's fine. I don't mind that. And he comes in, sometimes I'm awake. I'm sometimes I'm not. But he has a habit that we've got to get rid of him. Okay.
Starting point is 00:38:32 He comes in. He turns on like Australian techno music. Oh, no. And turns it on loud and then immediately falls asleep. So it's just loud music that I can hear. Yeah. And he doesn't turn it off. So last night he comes in.
Starting point is 00:38:52 I'm watching the end of the basketball game, and I hear, and I'm like, I know that. So I try to call him. No answer. He's jamming. So I go, normally, back when he lived there, I could open his door and go turn it off myself. Yeah. He has a door locked.
Starting point is 00:39:10 Oh, no. So I knock on the door, and he won't answer. And I just keep pounding on the door and finally he answers. And he's like, huh? I was like, turn the music off. Because I was like, but how does he sleep? I just get right to ask you. Like, I don't understand because he's in the room where it's got to be like crazy loud.
Starting point is 00:39:30 How does he sleep with that music? On a Tuesday night. On a Tuesday night. It sounds like he had a great time last night. I'm glad I didn't get the invite. And like he falls asleep within second, Shannon. How do people do that? I can fall asleep with a TV on, but I don't know about techno music.
Starting point is 00:39:45 I don't think I could do it then. Yeah, it's crazy. I don't, I have no idea how he does that. Who's up next? Joshua. Joshua. Go ahead, Joshua. Hey, good morning, guys. Thanks for taking my call. Matt, congratulations to your mom, getting her M-Div, really awesome accomplishment.
Starting point is 00:40:00 My mom used to own a little Chinese restaurant in Lexington in the Park Hill Shopping Center off of Manoran Pemlico called Kuhnaut, and so just hearing your story about the Oriental Walk. Just brought me back 20 years to my high school days. Was hers like that with the red and the yellow and all that? We had a bunch of yellow. It was more of a take-up. out delivery joined you. I got you. Okay, gotcha. But yeah, but she used to serve at the Oriental dining place off Nicholasville Road in the 80s. So that was pretty cool when you mentioned that. Real quickly, I just had a question as far as, do you guys have any information about the guards that Kentucky's been pursuing like Javon Small or John L. Davis and where they stay with them?
Starting point is 00:40:45 So I was told that the guy that's kind of the one, I appreciate the call, that they're the hot odd now is that Kobe Bray kid from Dayton. Obviously, they're in on Aiden Mahaney since he's visiting. You know, I've heard the small name a lot online, but I haven't heard it a ton from the people that I talk to, but that doesn't mean that they're not interested in him. I think their view has been, Drew, like, there's a lot of guards, right? There's a lot of guards you can go get that can shoot, et cetera, and they wanted to lock up the bigs, and I think that's happened.
Starting point is 00:41:18 well, assuming they get Osabor. But yeah, you know, they've contacted this kid from Minnesota. He kind of reminds people a severe Wheeler, which I know makes people cringe. But I think that's, they'll have the guards. There's a ton of guards out there. And I think that's at least their mindset. Yeah, I think a lot of the fan base is wanting instant results. There's still a lot of time left in this.
Starting point is 00:41:48 The boys with that long ago, we were just welcoming Pope at Rupp Arena. I know we all want 12 players right in front of us at this moment, but they're doing a lot behind the scenes. Sometimes when we're hearing things, it's already done. So I trust what's going on over there. If we get to the middle of May and we still have three players, we'll have that conversation. But this is still very early in the process. You know, here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:42:07 Everybody listening, one thing I know you trust John Calpary on is creating a roster, right? He's good at getting players. We have one more player than he does right now. Okay, so everybody had a head start. Yeah, and he had a week-long head start. And we have three guys, and he has two. So I do think, and I just think everybody, again, if we get to after Derby and we only have three players, all right, we'll have that conversation about, hey, what's, what's that? But right now, I do think we all just got to take a deep breath and let it play out at least a little bit.
Starting point is 00:42:42 Last year, it was June, and we were going, are we going to get a big man? Yes, we were. Where's Antonio Reeves? I mean, we were asking these things in June last year, so this is still not the end of April yet. Let's let him work. Who's next? Jermo.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Jermo. How are you, Jermo? What a name. Hey, Matt, what's going on? What's going on? First time, long time. Who? The Oriental Walk, I live up here,
Starting point is 00:43:02 and just 100 yards away from that place is my church, shout out at Lakeside. But, yeah, it's funny at the Christmas time, his marquee sign, he takes a lot of pride in his marquee sign. And he makes fun of himself, obviously, but he'll say, It will say deck the halls, fa-rah-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-r-r-r-r. I heard that.
Starting point is 00:43:23 I don't know that that's the best. I mean, it's his thing, but I don't know that I would do that if I was it. But you know what? It is what it is. Yeah. And then the second thing was, is I just wanted to relate with Ryan. Good confession here. I have those dreams about two or three times a week.
Starting point is 00:43:41 We're actually you're driving the car, Ryan, and my dreams, but we're both shirtless. Well, there you go. I'll just leave it at that. A little uncomfortable right now. Where's our dream doctor at? We need an interpretation. I don't know that that guy is the dream doctor, at least that I see. We'll take a break.
