Starting point is 00:02:35 And this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith-Lawvis. You call T.J. You'll make them pay. We are here at the KS. Bar and Grill. Daniel from Mazeville is just hanging out with us. He said he couldn't get his son up because it's someone to sleep. I don't understand how you'd want to sleep rather than sit with and listen to two guys talk. But I understand. I like that hat you're wearing, by the way. 1998 National Championship. Yeah, good team. I pulled up the Duke come back on YouTube recently. that thing like 10 times. That game doesn't get enough credit. It doesn't get everybody's like, oh, in the 92 game, 92.
Starting point is 00:03:03 98 games pretty awesome. Like I grant you the 92 game I get might be the best college basketball game of all time. But don't skip the 98 game. The 98 game. Shosheski didn't have any timeouts. Tubby used it against him. Some great coaching X and O's from Tubby on the sideline. My grandparents in their living room on one side of their, those, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:22 those big box TVs that used to exist. On one side was the Scott Padgett shot framed. Yes. In that game. And on the other side was Cameron Mills? Yep. The other side was the goose was golden covers. So in their living room, they had those two moments.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Oh, that's great. You know, grew up looking at those. Yeah, that is a, that is a game that has produced two pictures that are hanging all over people's walls in the state. One is Padgett hits the three and he's got both hands up. And then one of them is Cameron Mills who hits the three and he's pumping his fist. Like those are, if you try to think what are the iconic UK basketball single frame images. goose dunking in that championship game is one. Or the cover.
Starting point is 00:04:03 They had the cover. The goose was golden. That was what was framed. I always think of the one at the dunk. Yeah, both of them. Then Tashon, after he hits that three, when he's just kind of like, I don't know, he's got that look on his face. He's got that little snarl on his face. Probably wall doing the dance.
Starting point is 00:04:20 It's a little more recent, but the Ulysses' blood against Louisville will live in my brain for eternity. Yeah. So those are kind of. you know, images from the past. But that's cool. But thank you for the compliment on the hat. First time I've worn it. Very now.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Where'd you get that? I've no idea. I've owned it for a while, but just felt like... It's not like from 90s. No, I think, you know, everybody's making fake vintage these days. I'm going to take a picture. Hang on. Just you just stand there.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Well, you got to sit where I can get to hat. All right, there we go. Come on, hat. Okay. I'll tweet it out to me. Lovely. So we are here at KS Bar and Grill. Yesterday, we had a rare road trip with Billy.
Starting point is 00:04:57 It was me, Drew, and Billy. And we went to Shannon's grandma's funeral. And it was very nice. You know, a lot of people there. They actually played this show at the funeral, like when she was on there, which was very sweet. You know, you were making a good point on the drive back that there's not many times at people's funerals where you get to hear their voice. Right? And so they played a clip of her on this show talking to me and to all of them.
Starting point is 00:05:27 us and that was I thought really sweet to hear her voice at her funeral because you're right most people don't get to do that it really was and I'm I know everyone in there was touched by it and it was back was 2016 so yeah it's been eight years now that feels about two years ago they played a clip of us picking games in 2016 which was really strange so I was like BYU versus Oklahoma Oklahoma's a three-point favorite nanny what do you got and like that was kind of a and what was so sweet about that is everything Shannon said she would just repeat and on the last one he's like say the other one
Starting point is 00:06:01 he's like walking her through it it just showed their relationship whatever he would say she would just say and I thought that was that was very sweet a lot of you at the bar here last night for trivia it was packed here but a lot of you were asking me how Shannon is doing it and you know I'll let him speak for himself
Starting point is 00:06:17 but he was very you know he was very distraught we talked about it you don't see him like that a lot So, you know, he's, so he is going to take some time off. This was to be his vacation, but obviously this hasn't really gotten to be a vacation for him. So he's going to take a little bit of time off. He'll be back, I don't know, maybe at the end of next week.
Starting point is 00:06:40 But, again, just keep him in your thoughts and prayers because I know this has been difficult for him. Now, the second part of that, though, is we had to go on a road trip. And, you know, you and I, we don't travel with Billy, right? because, like, Billy has to stay here to run the games. So Billy is, like, Billy's a mystery. You know, he shows up dressed as Johnny Cash, slicked back hair. Very confident. He is the sneaky, like, people think I'm arrogant.
Starting point is 00:07:11 I would say when it comes to sheer confidence, who's more, I'm not the most confident person in the group. Is it Billy or is it Shannon? I would have said Shannon until yesterday. Spending a whole day with Billy. The man lacks no confidence. I'm going to rank the confidence meter. I'm going to rank Billy 1, Shannon 2.
Starting point is 00:07:35 I'm going to go, Ryan Oddly 3. I'm going to say me, 4, you 5. And it's not that you're not confident, but you're just like. I like to make fun of myself a lot more than I like to build myself up. Ryan is much more confident than people act like because, I mean, you have to be to take a shirt off everywhere. Of course. Right. But nobody's more confident than Billy. And listening to him talk, I just find so amusing because of how confident he is. He just would say things like, yeah, you know. Yeah, I could do that. It's not even like a humorous. We'll bring us on there like, yeah, I can do that.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Yeah, you'll be like, man, wouldn't it be crazy if you could jump over a mountain on a motorcycle? And Billy be like, yeah, could. You can't even motorcycle. I mean, like, we stopped that awesome shop that I'm sure you wanted to pull up. What do you wouldn't describe that? Those roadside stores. First of all, we went away I've never been before, right? So we, I, there's very few parts of Kentucky I haven't been in, but I realized that drive, we went through Bloomfield and was it, is it Fairfield? Is that the other one? But we went to Mount Washington through these towns I'd never been to. We went to Bloomfield.
Starting point is 00:08:41 And what was the name of the parties? I just need somebody in Bloomfield, which I'm not even sure what county that's in. I think Nelson, but I'm not positive. Well, whatever county it is, there's a place called Ernie's Tavern, and you just have to picture Bloomfield. Picture a small town that is literally one stoplight, right? It's one stoplight with one corner, and everything looks like you would think. And then there's this like Vegas-looking sign that says Ernie's Tavern with lights flashing. And you and I both said, what's happening at Ernie's?
Starting point is 00:09:14 I mean, we were had a time scheduled to get the funeral so we couldn't stop. but I'm now completely like what is happening at Ernie's Tavern in Bloomfield? Oh, I'm doing it overnight in Bloomfield sometime. It looked like you're great. I don't even see where to stay. We'll find it. Just pulling up, it looked like the perfect small town, like you said.
Starting point is 00:09:31 Everything's right there, a little bank, a little coffee shop, got all your needs. But there's Ernie's looks like the place. Something's happening in Arnees. Because most towns, their Ernie's have closed decades ago. All the Ernie's taverns are gone. But Bloomfield looks like it's still rocking, and I want to go be a part of it. If you, 772, 7754, if you've been to Ernie's in Bloomfield, let us know, because I was very impressed. But then we get to, we go, get to the funeral.
Starting point is 00:09:55 We saw Michael Bennett there. We didn't get to talk to him, but so we can say he's confirmed a lot. He's confirmed with us. Then we were coming back and we stopped at a little gas. So if you know me, and if you read Mitch, please, you know, I like side of the road gas stations. And I don't mean like side of the road gas. I like gas stations that haven't sold out yet to, like, a chain. So, like, shell.
Starting point is 00:10:21 Like, so, like, just, it'll just say, like, Bob's quick stop or whatever, right? So when I see one of those, I almost always will stop, especially if it's on a rural road. And we stopped at one. And we walk in, and it's exactly, it's exactly like I thought. Like, it's, there's too much stuff for the area. There's like a grocery. There's, like, just stuff. stuff everywhere.
Starting point is 00:10:46 The bathroom had a sign. Can I say the sign? Of course. It's a great sign. You think I can say this sign? The bathroom had hanging over the sign. If you have a short bat, stand closer to the plate.
Starting point is 00:11:01 Which, by the way, the reason you know it's independent is that wouldn't get through corporate. That would not get through corporate. And then now tell what you're going to say about Billy. They had the, like most small town gas stations, a life-sized Snoop Dog bobblehead with sunglasses on. Life-size.
Starting point is 00:11:18 That I loved. Well, I don't know if it was... I'd say half-life-side. Probably three feet. It's not six, five or whatever. Probably three, three feet, four. But it is probably three and a half feet of Snoop Dog bobblehead. And it's like dressed like a rapper.
Starting point is 00:11:34 And he's like, I don't know, he's advertising something. And then Billy did. This is what I mean by confidence. Billy did something no human would do. Most people would see that there and go, that's cool, or can I take a picture? What did Billy do? Well, we first asked how much it was. Billy was planning.
Starting point is 00:11:51 He wanted it. No, think about that. Billy goes, how much is this? Can I buy it? Who looks at a life-sized, not cardboard cutout, like, full-figure thing, and looks at the man and goes, can I buy this? And he looked at him and goes, no. No.
Starting point is 00:12:10 He said $1,200. And then he just said $1,200. and he started like negotiating. Billy kept a very straight face and goes, I'm going to give you $120 and just looked at him. It was like this stern look like expecting the man to just be like, that's okay. But that's the confidence I'm talking about.
Starting point is 00:12:24 But it wasn't even for sale. I mean, Billy looked at this man's thing, said, I want to buy that. He looked at him like who's crazy, said $1,200. And Billy goes, I'm going to give you $120. Needless to say, we didn't leave with it for $120. But I mean, that is an amazing amount of confidence to think you can. offer 10% of what this man wants for something that is not for sale and then tell him he's going to do it. And this man who is very nice is looking at Keanu Reeves and his store
Starting point is 00:12:54 wearing all black probably thinking, who are you and should I take this deal? I give Billy a lot of credit. He has, excuse me, he has like an unbelievable amount of self-confidence and we all need that in life. He will be on the show again with us tomorrow. And the point of all this, I enjoyed my billy time. It's just I didn't really know this side of him existed because we don't usually get entire days with him like that. Well, so, 859-280-2287. I want to give you a quote and see what you think. Danny Hurley, the coach at you come, was on the Pat McAfee show. And I just saw the clip. I didn't watch the whole thing. But he was talking about McAfee asking him something like, so how is it you're in the championship
Starting point is 00:13:40 game or in the final four, two years in a row with teams that are not the same. And he said, and I don't see if you agree with this. He said in the portal era, the key to success, in my opinion, is three things. One, you have to try to convince guys to come back. Okay. I thought that was an interesting thing to say. Like, not you got to get some guys to come back. He was like, you've got to try to convince some guys to come back.
Starting point is 00:14:08 He said, two, you need one to two freshmen who are talented and cool playing secondary roles. Okay. And then three, you need to get two to four transfers that are impact immediate players in the portal. That was his strategy of building a roster. Two to four transfers, immediate impact, one to two really talented freshmen but are cool playing a supplementary role. and get two to three guys to come back. And he said, that is, in my opinion, how you make a team, and that's what we're going to try to do every year.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Do you agree with that? I would have to be a crazy person to tell Danny Hurley he's doing anything wrong right now, so I agree with it. Even before hearing him say that, that kind of seems like the balanced roster that most teams should be shooting for. I mean, with the success they've had and are probably about to have this weekend, my man's got it figured out. If he's admitting that's his recipe, I think a lot of teams should copy it.
Starting point is 00:15:08 said outside, this was in a different conversation. He said outside of one of the three best players in the country, I'm not going after freshmen that aren't guys I think will be supplemental. Basically, he's like, if I don't get Cooper Flagg, because they went after him, I think. Then I'm not going and getting the guys below that. I'm getting a guy who's cool being the six or seven men. It seems like, and I completely agree with this, freshman coming in, can't really have the expectation.
Starting point is 00:15:41 I'm the guy in a portal world where you can go out and get portal guys too. You need a freshman who knows I'm going to have a 23-year-old next to me and we're going to have to share the ball. It's just very interesting to me to hear him say it because I don't think I've heard coaches articulate. You need to get older, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But he said, and this is him, and I'm not saying he's the only one that can succeed, but he said this is how I think you need all three, but you might need them in a different balance than people. people think. He's basically was like, you need your portal guys to be the impact guys and your freshman to be the supplements, not your freshman to be the stars and your portal guys
Starting point is 00:16:21 to be the supplements. That was just interesting to me. And I hadn't heard it articulated like that and he did yesterday. Look at the rosters. That's exactly what they've done. It's not just them. Other teams are kind of relied on that and you have freshman guys coming in where they can. 859-2-80-2287. Tax machine is 772-75-25-4. or two we're going to go be frank with Franklin. Today's the day. He's going to get his frankness out. Are you ready for it? I brought all the frankness I have.
Starting point is 00:16:46 All right. We will take a break. We're right back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. First of all, you never know what you're going to learn about this state. Just when I thought I knew something about every town, did not know that Bloomfield was basically owned by Jerry Brookheimer. Who knew? Who knew that?
Starting point is 00:17:12 Jerry Bruchheimer's wife owns most of Bloomfield, and Jerry Bruckheimer owns Ernie's Tavern. What? Had no idea. How we have to go. It has a bowling alley and a skating rink inside. There's a skating rink in that place? Roller skating. But still, I don't think of
Starting point is 00:17:29 that big. I got to go. What are we doing here right now? Apparently there was an article about it on a Louisville TV station's website yesterday. No way. Yesterday. I knew none of this. We just happened to drive by and we were like, this is a cool place. I didn't bring this up to talk. I had no idea about any of this.
Starting point is 00:17:45 We just saw Ernie's, and we were like, that seems different than here. You even said before we got to it, you're like, I like these small. I've never been in the small town. I like the downtowns to see what they are. We didn't know what we were coming up on. Apparently, Jerry and Bruchheimer lives there. This is my doing. I did, he has a suite at the derby.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Yeah. Like one of the random, not the derby trips. You might have been there. We were in the Bruchheimer suite. Oh, okay. Well, now we can go to Bloomfield. So Jerry Bruchheimer, if you're listening, I assume you're not. But if you are, we'd love to come to Ernie's, and more than anything, I'd like to roller skate.
Starting point is 00:18:20 Yeah, and congrats on having an awesome place. Is there a place to roller skate here in Lexington? There's nowhere to roller. We have a place to roller skate in Middlesbrough. There's nowhere to roll. There's got to be somewhere. There has to be. Where is it?
Starting point is 00:18:35 So you mean Middlesbrough, Bloomfield, you're from where? Williamsburg has it, and Lexington doesn't have a place to roller skate? Champs. You can skate at champs. At the athletic store? I mean, they would probably stop you. You could if you want. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:52 You can try it out. Champs what? It's like a big complex with all funds and things. Okay. All right. Well, there you go. I couldn't roller skate as a kid. I wanted to make fun of myself.
Starting point is 00:19:00 I was the one that held the wall at birthday parties. That was when I was at my best was roller skating. One person writes, Matt, don't you think the way Danny Hurley is describing a roster is what we did this year? No. because Danny earlier is saying you bring in transfers to be your main guys. Well, Antonio Reeves, he was actually a returner. So remember he said he'd get one or two.
Starting point is 00:19:22 So Antonio Reeves was a returner, not a transfer. We brought in one transfer, and he was a supplementary player. He wasn't a star. And he wasn't even really in the plan. And then as far as returning guys we had, we had Antonio, we had a do and Hugo, but they hadn't really played the year before. And our team was built around freshmen. I mean, like they were.
Starting point is 00:19:46 What was interesting is the two lowest ranked ones ended up doing much better than the higher ones, and they were great. But no, I mean, we did not. The way Hurley is talking about building the team is not how our team was built. No, I mean, I thought we had a good makeup of going to run. I mean, you had an All-American and two lottery picks, but it's not what he described as the balance of a little bit of everything. We had the one thing I will say, and this is where I will agree. while I think we have to look at changing the way we build rosters, I also think we had the talent to go on a run this year.
Starting point is 00:20:19 I think those things are not mutually exclusive. So, I mean, the thing you have to think of is we had the number one and two best freshmen in the country. We have the number one and two best freshmen in the country and still lost in the first round, Oakland. So what you have to ask yourself is, how often are you going to get the number one and two freshmen in the country? Right.
Starting point is 00:20:39 Like that's probably not going to happen a lot. But with all that said, we had the talent. I mean, we had the talent. Our path to the final four would have been Oakland, NC State, Marquette, and Duke. That's not a ridiculous path. That is a navigable path. Now, could we have lost to other teams?
Starting point is 00:21:05 Yeah, definitely. But it's certainly a navigable path, right? And with the Hurley thing, I think he's right on getting these transfers. And I think it works better with mid-majors where they haven't really tasted the big program yet. Where they come in their senior, they've already played a lot of basketball, but just not at that big school. And they're buying in, they're excited. They know it's their one year.
Starting point is 00:21:23 And that's why a lot of the best players in the country have been transfers that came from a mid-major. Yeah. Antonio Reeves, we're going to have a signing here on Friday, by the way, a week from Friday. Not tomorrow, but a week from Friday. starts at 630. He's doing it for signing for people who know it's $25. I don't know if we're going to do first come first server reservations. We haven't talked about it.
Starting point is 00:21:46 We'll figure it out. I'll let you know by Monday. But he's going to sign. I think that'll be great. I think people are going to be very excited. Antonio Reeves, to me, in 20 years, will be a dude that you'll hear me or the next version of me saying he's one of the most underrated guys to play here. the leading score of the Cal era.
Starting point is 00:22:08 How many people are going to remember that in 20 years? How many people are going to remember that the leading score of the Calera was Antonio Reeves? And if the AP wasn't stupid, a consensus all-American, and almost an SEC player of the year, if Kineck wasn't down the road. Yeah. I mean, he had an incredible year. He had an amazing year. And, like, what I think I really loved about him is we watched him get better.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Even in two years, he was so much better at the end than he was at the beginning. And that was really cool to see. We've kind of, in the Cal Air, we've had all these superstars who come in and, like, immediately are rolling or they leave after. To watch a kid get infinitely better from year one to year two was a very cool thing. That's only happened a few times in the Cal Air. Well, we're so big on the one and done. U-List was one.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Yeah, you've kind of lost the guys that are able to do that. Nick Richards, I thought. Nick Richards was one. Yeah, definitely. That is a part of building these great teams. And maybe there will be some on this roster who do it. Who knows? Willie.
Starting point is 00:23:06 Willie? Oh, yeah, I thought you're saying this rush. Yeah, I'd love to have Willie on this rush. No, I'm not saying who got better. Yeah, and I'm not saying a jump like Reeves did, but maybe a Birx comes back and he takes a step forward or someone else comes back and they take a step forward. I think you need some of that when you're building a team these days,
Starting point is 00:23:19 someone that's been around. Who's up first, Rick? Got John at first. John, go ahead. John, I can't get over Brookenheimer's, like owning this little town. But go ahead. Hey, guys, good morning. Longtime UK fan.
Starting point is 00:23:34 graduated from UK in 86 and want to agree with Dan Hurley completely on roster construction. I go back to the 7980 team. Just got a minute real quick. Go ahead. Just a minute. Sure. They had Callan and Macy as veterans. And then they had the five freshmen with Bowie, Ford, Horton, Menefield.
Starting point is 00:23:56 And they, you know, they flamed out in the second, third round in the tournament down at Rupp Arena against Duke. You've got to have veterans, man. you can't rely on all freshmen. And Cal really needs to understand that. But like there was a time that wasn't true. We relied on freshmen for five, six years, had a lot of success. The question is, have things changed in the last couple years? I think the answer is yes.
Starting point is 00:24:19 I think it's been you need veterans every year. I mean, there's just, there's just no way. I mean, I don't want to downplay Cal's success early. I mean, we had a freshman team that took us in 2010. to the number one seed. We won a title in 2012. We went to the final four in 2011. We were 38 and 1 in 2015.
Starting point is 00:24:40 All freshman starters went to the championship game in 2014. I just think things are changed. Well, you're right there, Matt. I mean, maybe the game has changed. But we'll take a break in. Be right back. This is KSR. Welcome back, Tegu Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:25:09 859-280-2287. We got a couple open lines. Good chance to get in and say, hey, we'd love to talk to you. Had somebody come up to me last night and go, Matt, I've never called the show. Does that make me not a fan? And I was like, no, I bet you 97% of listeners haven't called. Like, let's look at you.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Have any of you called? You've called. So the other have not. Have you folks called the show ever that are just walking in here now? No. So that's what I'm saying. Most people don't call. So you should still do it, though, because it's a nice, you know, it's nice to talk to people.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Yeah, we like to hear from the listeners. Last night, last night was good for me. I got online yesterday after Shannon's funeral, and I was a business. and I was about to write something about how sweet the funeral was, and I got on there, and my name was trending with people just saying I was ruining UK basketball, and I forgot how many shots I missed against Oakland. I mean, it was a lot.
Starting point is 00:26:02 But it was crazy, and so then I was like, oh, here we go again. And then I came in here, and this place was absolutely full of people, and everybody was having a good time, and everybody was nice, and I was like, I just have to continue to remind myself that that social media world is not the real world. And it's hard sometimes because it doesn't always feel that way, but it is true. Yeah, I saw your trending when I got home yesterday. I went to do the same.
Starting point is 00:26:25 I was just going to do a little scrolls. See what's going on in the world, but I don't. I didn't realize how much of an impact I've had on our failures. But I will try to do better. In the offseason, I've been putting up shots, and they're still not going in. But that's unfortunate. We'll get you there. We need the NOAA shooting system.
Starting point is 00:26:41 Is Reeves going to beat Golky tonight? He better. I cannot watch Oakland or Golky have any more joy in my face. I hope he misses all of his shots. Actually, I hope he airballs all of his shots and Reeves beats him. Somebody writes that in Bloomfield, the Bruchenheimer's own half the town, but the Knops on the other half because the Knops won the lottery. Wow.
Starting point is 00:27:05 There's so much going on in Bloomfield. Did you know the Knops won the lottery? I didn't know any of this. I like that the family, I like that the town just goes, you know the Knops on half this town. They won the lottery. They picked the right six numbers. Do you think you're in a town that's like $1,500? people somebody wins the lottery. Are people happy for them or they're mad?
Starting point is 00:27:22 Probably depends on the person. If it's someone that's going to give back, they're excited. But if it's like the jerk in the town, it's like, oh, here they go, getting more. These knobs. Did someone win the big one last night? Last night was like a billion bucks. No, no winners. No winners. Still going. Well, I guess that guy's eight-year-old basketball team is still not, is still going to be without a coach. I have a question out there for all the people listening. Everybody by now seen the video on Monday of the girl who was walking to class and she got blown away in the Patterson office tower thing. Like she got blown away. And then I saw a picture.
Starting point is 00:27:58 She went to class and she was like her arm was bloody. Did you see that? Her arm was like she was bleeding all over the place. Does anybody know who she is? I asked last night, all my staff, like the staff here, none of them knew her. I'd like to make sure she's okay. And I also want to know why was everybody filming? And this is the part of that story I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:28:19 There were two different people that had a camera on. Did they just, were they just thinking somebody's going to blow away and I'm going to get it? Like, how did they know to have a camera on? Because there are two wonderful shots of her blowing through the air. But I want to know how those, how did they get them? So, A, if you know the girl, I'd like her to call in because I want to see like, is she all right after all this? And B, why were there people's cameras on? The one I saw, it looks like they just happened to be filming the statue,
Starting point is 00:28:49 and she just appears from stage right. But they just films a statue. I mean, it was pretty wild wind. You might throw it on Snapchat, like, oh, look at me. I'm going to class. I don't know. I'm just guessing. But I will say, I want to ask her why she went to class.
Starting point is 00:29:00 I would still be rolling down that hill. If you think soccer players flop, I would be rolling everywhere, holding every body part I have, and then I would have a building named after me. Yeah, so that's another thing is, like, people are very mad saying, why didn't Kentucky cancel class? I don't know. I mean, they are walking. Like, you could just not go, right?
Starting point is 00:29:20 Yeah. I'm just saying, I would have ended up two streets away if that had been me in that video. That girl's professor should give her an A. The fact that she tried to go to class in that thing got blown away, then still showed up to class bloody. To me, that girl does, if I were her professor at Georgetown, I'm giving her an A for the day and saying you don't have to take the popcorn. Yeah, if you haven't seen the photo of her in class, she has a gigantic. wound that looks to be still open and she's sitting in her desk. Yeah, and there's nobody there to
Starting point is 00:29:47 fix it. She's literally just bleeding in class, like, you know. I feel like she gets an A for the semester. To me, I think she should get a A. So if you know who that is, and I'd love to have her call in and just see, like, did she ever get the wound filled? I feel like she needs it. Who's next? Got Casey up next. Casey, go ahead, Casey. Hey, good morning, fellas. So I had to call because I was at chance earlier this week. and Matt, I tagged you in a video. Have you ever seen... A roller skating?
Starting point is 00:30:19 Yeah. I don't think I got a roller skating video, but at least not what you can talk about. Oh, my gosh. No, please don't say that. People will say things. I get it. Go ahead. People running with things online.
Starting point is 00:30:31 They have a Skiddle machine. Have you ever seen a Skittles machine? And I know what you're gone. They have a Skittles? Hang on to a Skittles machine? A Skittles machine. And it blew my mind. Okay, yeah, yeah, do send that again.
Starting point is 00:30:47 I want to see what, it's like a vending machine full of Skittles? Yes, and you can pick any color you want, and it will give you a selection of exactly what color skittles you want. What? Okay, now that does sound awesome. And so, I appreciate, yes. My question was, what's your selection? Mine was green, red, green, green.
Starting point is 00:31:06 So, go ahead. I don't, I think, though, I'm a red guy, but I appreciate the call. But purple, man, a skit. Dude, I think we're missing out. You and I haven't gone to these kind of places. If you're talking, we've got a roller skating rink and a Skiddle machine. We've got to go to our ESPN radio, by the way. ESPN Radio, by the way.
Starting point is 00:31:24 ESPN Radio pick nerd gummy clusters as the best candy in America. Just remember the first place you heard that. Like now, they're all just kind of piling on. But I was on that early. I can't eat them anymore because they'll make me fat. But I do really like them. They're really, really good. So you quit those with the Skittles machine.
Starting point is 00:31:40 You can still dabble. You just want to see what it's about. I can. I can still do that. Did you see that Fox Sports is starting a second NIT? There are going to be two NITs now. Fox Sports's NIT is going to be with the Big Ten, the Big Twelve, and I can't remember what the other conference is.
Starting point is 00:31:59 Another conference they have rights on. So basically, it's kind of sad. The NIT is going to split, it looks like, and there's going to be like an SEC, ACC, ACC, Big East, NIT, and then like a Big Ten, Big 12 American or something. an NIT. It's too much. I'm already, I'm keeping up with this on it, NIT for the first time, maybe ever, currently. The final's going to be great. It's tonight, isn't it? Yeah. Seaton Hall, Indiana State. That'll be a good game. And I've enjoyed the additional
Starting point is 00:32:24 basketball, but it's still a lot to take on when you're falling in the other tournament. A third tournament, I don't know that I'll even pretend that exists. Tonight you get Seton Hall and Indiana State. Those are the two teams that were probably most aggrieved to not make the NCAA tournament. And most of the time, the teams that are in that situation, they don't even try in the NIT because they're not happy. But these two teams came out, and they've both won every game. You got Cream Abdul-Jabbar playing for the championship. The game is in Indiana. Like, how lucky are they?
Starting point is 00:32:56 They picked Hinkle Fieldhouse to be the game, and now they get Indiana State. So the crowd's going to be wild there tonight. It's going to be a packed house. I actually think that'll be a great a great college basketball game tonight. And he's playing a Kentucky villain. Shaheen Holloway is the coach of Seaton Hall. I know Kentucky fans, he coached at St. Peters. We'd love to see him take an L. So we'll all be behind Cream Abdul tonight.
Starting point is 00:33:18 That's right. Who's next? God, Greg, up next. Greg, go ahead, Greg. Yeah, guys, I got a couple of things. I think you need to do. Number one is Google Jerry Bruckheimer. It's unbelievable how many things he's done.
Starting point is 00:33:32 From CSI at Top Gun, it's amazing. The other thing, I really recommend you go to Ernie's. I've been there. The signage on the wall is fantastic. I had a croissant with a chicken salad on it, the best thing I ever ate. You went to Ernie's Tavern in Bloomfield and you got a croissant? Yeah. Like you decided that, like, I'm in Bloomfield.
Starting point is 00:33:54 Let me get something fancy. I'm telling you, you go out fast food, they're fake croissants. This was the real deal. I think they just cooked it. Wow. Is this like heaven? Is Bloomfield Heaven on Earth? Bloomfield's in Nelson County.
Starting point is 00:34:08 Is it like the best? Are we giving away a secret? It's pretty cool. Listen to this. You go across the street to the antique place that they own. And Ms. Brookheimer's working in there sometimes. She'll sign a book that she wrote. She's got a pile of.
Starting point is 00:34:22 Jerry, okay, hang on. Jerry Brockheimer's wife works the cashier at the antique store? Some days, the day I went she was there. I got her to sign a book. Is this town like out of, is this out of a movie? What is this town? I wonder like a hometown pizza downtown too.
Starting point is 00:34:36 It's just a great place. It's really a neat town and beautiful part of the country there. I really recommend it to you. Well, thank you very much. I appreciate the call. Let's see, I say this all the time. The state of Kentucky, you can come in. Tell that guy he can come in.
Starting point is 00:34:54 He doesn't have to stand outside. We're not open to 11, but he can come in. Okay. The state of Kentucky has so many cool little towns or stories, and I don't think people necessarily realize it because you may not get out of your area but like here's the town of like 2,000 people and look what all we've learned about.
Starting point is 00:35:12 I didn't know any of that was there until yesterday and this isn't like a bit. I'm going to Ernie's Tavern one weekend. And I'm looking for it. It might be tomorrow night. I got nothing tomorrow night. I might go to Ernie's Tavern. Yeah, well, you definitely should.
Starting point is 00:35:24 Let me also tell you while you're there, shoot on up to the summit in Louisville and go to Shadyrays. Shadyrays.com, best place to get sunglasses, If you lose it, they'll replace it. They're high-in sunglasses. They keep the sun out of your eyes, which is what sunglasses are supposed to do. If you break it, they'll replace it.
Starting point is 00:35:43 You can buy two pairs, get 50% off. Sir, just so you know, my goal today is to get you to not frown at me the whole show. Am I going to be able to get you to smile at some point during this show? There you go. Look at that. Anybody ever tell you you look like the guy from Saul? Better call Saul. Oh, yeah, Mike.
Starting point is 00:36:02 Mike, you look like Mike and you're fratted at me like Mike does. But anyway, I think his name was Mike. Shadyrays.com. You go to Shadyrays, put in the KSR, buy two, get 50% off. There's one near you at Summit or Lexington or online at Shadyrays.com. I'm going to tell you an amazing story about something that's happening in Lexington, an outrage that needs to be fixed. We're going to fix it when we return right here on Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:36:35 Is this a wrestling theme song, Rick? I don't know, but it sounds like insurance music, right? It sounds like somebody's about to walk in. I guess you're getting ready for WrestleMania, Rick. Oh, yeah. 859-280-2287. So people say the reason they were filming the girl is apparently a couple of people were inside trying to scream at her to get inside. So they were filming.
Starting point is 00:37:00 So because rather than going out and helping her, they just screamed at her and said, get inside. and then they filmed watch it. Apparently she was on ABC Nightly News last night and on Inside Edition, which that's the first time I've heard Inside Edition was still a television show. I think I was on Inside Edition. You were after the woman yelled at you.
Starting point is 00:37:21 It's the last time I've watched it. I have an injustice that needs to be fixed. Okay. This is in the Harold leader, yes. Have you heard the story about Rico Givens the sanitation worker? I think I have. I'm not familiar with the name, but I believe I know this story. So Rico Givens is out doing sanitation work.
Starting point is 00:37:41 Let me just say, in the grand scheme of jobs that I think we should thank people for on a daily basis to me that don't get thanked enough. Teachers, those who are in police work, and sanitation workers. And even teachers and police probably get thanked more than sanitation work. I want you to think about what that job is. You have to ride around all day and touch people. people's trash. Now, they actually are paid pretty well, a lot of them, but nevertheless, that is a, like, you have to have that in society, but that's got to be a tough job. So let's just start with my inclination is always going to be on the side of the sanitation
Starting point is 00:38:21 worker. And I'll add yesterday morning in that weather, I passed some of them on the backs of trucks, which is rain beating down on. Yeah, they're hanging on the back. Although I will say, I think hanging on the back of a truck would be fun. That does look kind of cool. But it probably stinks that truck, and I wouldn't want to get near it. Nevertheless, Rico Givens is going to a person's house. The person is throwing away a television, okay? And I guess the lady is outside, and Rico goes, oh, why are you throwing away this television? And she says, because it doesn't have a remote.
Starting point is 00:38:51 Now, by the way, I would just say, that's a certain kind of person that doesn't have a remote and just throws the TV away. That sounds like the kind of thing I would do, to be honest with you. Battery doesn't work, just throwing away. But she's throwing away the television because she doesn't have a remote. And then he goes, you know what? I like this TV. What kind of TV is it? I'm going to get my daughter a TV.
Starting point is 00:39:10 She doesn't have a TV. Now, I don't know if Rico was kind of hitting. I'm not sure. But the woman then offers and says, would you like to have this TV? I'm throwing it away anyway. Would you like to have the TV for his daughter? He says, sure.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Apparently, there's a policy that you can't take people's garbage if you're a sanitation worker or you're fired. Now, I understand that policy and theory. I don't think the sanitation workers should be able to, like, sift through your garbage and then take what they like and go home. That's probably not a good thing. So I get the idea of the theory. But in every theory, there should be exceptions.
Starting point is 00:39:50 And if this woman voluntarily gave the TV because this guy's TV daughter didn't have a television, and she was getting rid of it just because she couldn't find the remote, it feels like to me they should keep on RICO. So now this is a story. Rico's asked for his job back. The city says they're not sure what they're going to do. Do you think the city of Lexington should give Rico his job back as a sanitation worker? Or do you think their rule?
Starting point is 00:40:15 You cannot take anything that is garbage should be 100% steadfast. I'm disappointed. They took his job in the first place. And to get the story exactly clear, the woman came out and has said he in no way asked for it. I approached him and said, would you have any use for this? So he didn't even ask. Oh, so she just went up to the guy. Well, once she realized he couldn't tell you, I guess she's saying she offered,
Starting point is 00:40:38 he wasn't going through the trash, he didn't ask, she said, would you have any use for it? She's admitting that she approached him. So I read this story. I was pretty disappointed and can't believe he doesn't already have his job now. So let me ask you a question about, okay, I'm totally fine with the policy of you can't go through people's garbage bags. Although, by the way, I've said this on this show before. Just so folks know, when you put your garbage in the trash can, I want you. you remember this, you give up your privacy rights to the garbage.
Starting point is 00:41:05 I don't know if people realize that. If people want to go through your garbage and take stuff or if the police want to search your garbage, they're actually allowed to. So just so you know, the expectation of privacy goes away when you put it in the trash. But that's a different conversation. When you put solid things on your driveway to be taken away by the city, anyone can drive and get those. Like on my road in Louisville, I put stuff all the time. It's gone in 10 minutes. Like, people take it immediately. I don't care what it is. I put a pair of shoes on there,
Starting point is 00:41:42 and it was gone in 10 minutes, and I was fine with that because I didn't need them. So if anyone can come take them, why can't a sanitation worker take it? Like, why do we have to, why do we make it where anyone in society can get that television except him? Shouldn't he be able to get it to? We'd rather just throw it a landfill than give it to Rico's daughter who needs a TV. But presumably somebody's going to get it, so why can it be Rico? I understand you don't want a guy on the clock who's like every house. It's his next opportunity to find some treasure. Yeah, he's not a scavenger.
Starting point is 00:42:12 But I mean, this woman has come out, said she approached him and said, would you have any use for this? He says, I have a daughter without a TV. They agreed. Let's just shake hands and move on. Linda Gorton, free RICO. I want to add something from the Herald leaders. As long as he's done everything else for his employee, free RICO. That's what I want.
Starting point is 00:42:29 This is from the Herald leader. He's never been written up. Perfect. And he went to Easter Kentucky and worked for a week to help clean up after the floods. Give Rico his job already. I'll get Rico a television with a remote. All right. So he should be able.
Starting point is 00:42:42 The man should also be able to have a remote. So let's the free Rico and bring him back. Who's next, Rick? Derek is up next. Rick, do you think Rico should be back? By the way, you didn't get to chime in? I think he should come back with a raise. With a raise.
Starting point is 00:42:56 With a raise. Rick the race. All right, go ahead. Matt and Drew, you should know this, but you may not remember for reasons I won't get into. But anybody's ever tended to class at UK would know that the Patterson office tower is a notorious wind tunnel. And so that's probably another reason people were filming. Because any time the wind gets up, your umbrella is going to just shatter.
Starting point is 00:43:20 Anybody's ever taking a class on UK's campus and knows that. Well, I didn't go to UK and Drew never went to class. I mentioned this yesterday. 100% confirmed. But go ahead. Yeah. But man, another thing I like to talk about quickly. You know, you talk so much, sometimes I think you forget what you say.
Starting point is 00:43:38 I'm sure that's true. You talk, yeah, yeah. You know, you said at one time, and anybody's ever taken a upper-level statistics classes I have would know this. And you're writing this, and everything eventually in life, in any endeavor, everything reverts back to the means, which means it reverts back to the average. Okay. Okay, I got 30 seconds. His first 10 years here, Matt, he went to seven regional finals,
Starting point is 00:44:05 and you can't keep that up. You just can't. Seven regional finals, four final fours, two title games, and a championship. So do you think losing two of the last three years is reverting to the mean? Well, did Mike Shishowski revert to the mean when he lost a Lehigh? Mike Shoshchewski when he lost two or three, won the national title the year before and the year after.
Starting point is 00:44:26 We'll see if that happens. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
