Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,

Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

A, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
A rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?

or if you come in you got two days left to pick your master's pick country boy brewing two thousand
split if you pick the winner of the Masters.
So you just pick who you think's going to win, you fill it out, and then if they win,
you split the money.
If you pick a favorite, you won't win as much.
But if you pick an underdog and they win, you might get all $2,000 from Country Boy.
And as you see on your table there, we're serving Masters food, egg salad, pomeo cheese.
You don't like egg salad?
No, I love pomeo cheese.
The egg salad, Monique, I'm not a pimento cheese person, but I ate the egg salad
Monique made. It is awesome. Like, I'm, I'm a big egg salad person. Ten dollars, you get all three of
the sandwiches, they, chicken salad as well that they have at the master. She said she's got the
master's egg salad recipe and it even improved it, tweaked it. And that's why it's so good.
Yes, that's a high bar. I love it. Monique's like the Masters. How about I master the
masters and make it even better? I like that. So that, that food goes on all weekend. But if you
want to enter the contest, you've got to have it before it starts Thursday,
because once this tournament starts, you're out.
Yeah, I'm excited to hear back from Drew when he returns.
He's been at the Masters.
Yeah, Drew's been, what a two days for Drew to miss, by the way.
I mean, Drew, this is like he lives for this, but he's at the Masters, so you understand.
And I saw they were giving away Eclipse glasses at the Masters.
So what do you think of the eclipse real quick?
Overrated, underrated?
Well, when we went to see the first one in Hopkinsville, I was super, super excited.
This one I was like, eh, I'll go out and take a glance.
It was kind of cloudy here today, too.
It was a little cloudy, yeah, in Lexington.
So I drove a little bit during it.
And it got dark, but yeah.
But is that because we went to the one in Hopkinsville a couple years ago?
You were in totality.
I don't know.
I kind of agree with Charles Barkley.
Did you hear Charles Barkley?
Did you hear that?
Charles Barkley was like, it's dark.
Wow, I've had that before.
It's going to be dark when we walk out of here tonight.
Well, it was like half the people in the country that tried to look at it without the correct glasses.
I will say.
I was in that traffic on Sunday going to the Reds game, the traffic up to Ohio of people trying to get up there.
It was wild.
And then coming back when it was over, I looked at all.
I mean, it was just people flowing into Ohio to go watch it.
That was still the worst traffic mess in the history of traffic leaving Hopkinsville that day.
And somehow you got ahead of it and beat it.
Yes, I did.
And I'm glad you brought it up.
It might be, you know.
What's one of your greatest achievement?
Until I'm married.
It's probably the best achievement that.
I've ever had. One person writes, Matt, let me ask you this. Who wins a title first, Kentucky, or Cal?
I said this, Kentucky. Kyle's not going to win a title at Arkansas. Mario, you can put that on a clip. Actually,
no, I mean, he's not. He's going to do well there. But remember this. Let me put it a different way,
because I don't think, I mean, winning the title's hard. I'm not going to put that on it.
Let's just look at what Eric Musselman did at Arkansas the last four years. Sure.
Eric Musselman went to two elite eights and one sweet 16 in four years missed the tournament the fourth year.
So two elite eights, one sweet 16 and missed the tournament.
Does Cal do better than that in the next four years?
That's significantly better than the four years cow had here.
Is cow better at Arkansas than Eric Musselman?
I fear he's going to be rejuvenated, got that chip on his shoulder, and we're going to see the old cow for a while.
So is he better?
Does he do better than back-to-back elite eights?
Sweet 16. No. No. That's kind of hard. That's a pretty good run the head. I think they're going to pay
twice as much money for a coach that will do equal or worse to Eric Mussel. Yeah. And you know,
what has Cal got left, maybe four or five years? Yeah, he's not going to coach more than that.
Even if things go great, he's not going to coach more than four or five years. So I just think that's
an interesting thing to watch. Arkansas fans are going to have a very high expectation. Oh, yeah.
Because Eric Musselman did really, really well there.
Like he did.
I mean, this year they stunk.
But the three years before that, they were really good.
Had a shirt off with a sling on in the crowd.
Yeah.
I don't know if I could see Cal doing that.
I don't think I'll see God.
They were preseason picked to win the SEC or top two or three.
They were very disappointing this year.
Very disappointing this year.
That's the biggest thing.
Who's up next?
Dan is up next.
By the way, I don't know what Seth is saying, Seth Greenberg, but he's on TV.
The question is should Hurley consider Kentucky.
If Seth is saying no.
and my guess is he is,
then that tells you
Cess' opinion about Kentucky.
Just remember this, Kentucky fans,
when the national media is attacking us.
They attacked us when Patino left.
They attacked us when Tubby left.
They attacked us when we got rid of Billy Gillespie.
And they said, why would anybody want to deal with that?
People still want to deal with it,
and we still win.
Remember when Tubby left?
Michael Wilbaum went on TV and said they'll never be good again.
And two years later, we have John Wall and John Calpair.
Yeah.
Wilbon called us spoiled brats yesterday.
I like Michael Wilbon as a commentator, but he's always hated Kentucky.
And yes, you know what?
We are spoiled brats.
That's why we're Kentucky.
It makes it special.
Like, that's why we're Kentucky.
But go ahead, sir.
Matt and Larry, thank you for taking the call.
Larry.
I don't get it.
If Kentucky settled for another one of these coaches, they're touting in the mainstream media,
we're never going to see the final four again.
That's so absurd.
That's so absurd.
Sir, why would you, who made the, let me ask you a question.
You know, who made the Final Four this year?
Kevin Keats, if Kevin Keats made the Final Four,
are you telling me that Billy Donovan, Scott Drew,
Shocker Smart, Chris Beard, Chris Beard, who's been to the championship game,
are you telling me they can't make a Final Four if Kevin Keats made one?
We don't need another fraudulent coach out of the Northeast,
for sure, to coach the University of Kentucky Men's Basketball Program.
that will end in total disaster similar to what happened with John Caliperi.
All right.
With the fans won.
John Cali Perry was not a disaster and that you're just being a troll if you're saying.
I mean, our two most successful coaches of the modern era were both coaches from the Northeast.
Yeah.
So having a coach from the Northeast will do absolutely fine, I think.
What do you think about the people that say Patino should get another shot here?
No.
I mean, no, he's 71 years old.
Yeah, that's a little old for the position.
I mean, you can't, so you're hiring a guy to coach for four years?
No, I mean, look.
Now, if everyone in the world turns us down, then maybe we come back and, but no.
Is there a universe where Bruce Pearl enters the conversation?
I'm surprised Bruce Pearl isn't someone that gets talked about more.
But here's the thing about Bruce Pearl.
You know who else lost in the first round as a top four seed this year,
besides us?
Yeah.
Him.
We were the two teams that got beat.
So, but I'm surprised when I talk about that second tier.
I am surprised Bruce Pearl's not in it in some ways.
Because he could do the other intangibles it takes to sit in that chair.
I mean, associate with the alumni, the boosters.
What Pat Kelsey's been doing at Louisville, Bruce Pearl would do that times.
Yes.
I mean, he would, and he would like, for a stinking liberal like me, I'd have to get
used to all his MAGAPOS, but if we were winning, I think I could handle it.
Who's next?
Jason is up next.
Jason, go ahead, Jason.
Hey, gentlemen, how are you all doing?
Doing good.
Hey, I got a question for you and then just a little statement.
And I'll jump off and let you all ponder it.
Is there any other women Division I, is there any women Division I, I don't know of any?
I don't know what that means.
Oh, you mean on the men's side?
Are there any women's men's coach?
On the men's side?
No, I don't think there is one.
I don't think there is one that I know of.
As a matter of fact, I'm sure there's not.
Well, what about a coach with a hundred ninety three,
or 190 and three record in the last three years?
I mean, here's the thing about Don Staley.
So I think that's what you're talking about.
Don Staley.
Don Staley is an amazing coach.
I don't know why there's this notion that women need to
come to the men's game to prove their ability.
Like, if she wanted to coach in the men's game, I think she could do it.
But I don't think you would start your career at Kentucky, right?
Like, if she wanted to do that, like, if I was a school like Vanderbilt,
right.
I'd say give it a shot.
But at Kentucky, you want someone who's done it.
And if I'm Don Staley, she doesn't need this.
Women's basketball had a huge tournament.
she's the head of that game.
Like Gino used to say when people asked him,
why does he need to prove himself in the men's game?
He's good in the women's game.
No, I'm not coming from the point of her proving herself.
I'm talking about, I think she is a phenomenal coach.
And if we're talking about going for the best,
I think she has to be in the conversation.
Yeah, I just think it's a different thing.
I appreciate the call.
There'll be a day when a woman will coach in the men's game,
and I think they'll be able to do it.
But I don't think you do that experiment at the University of Kentucky.
No, we've seen some women join the bench as an assistant coach.
And I'd be fine with that, of course.
Yeah.
I think the day's coming.
We'll eventually see a woman.
And our children might one day see a woman head coach at Kentucky.
And I'm for it.
But I just don't, I kind of resent the idea that Don Staley needs to be in the men's game
to show everybody that, like, she's clearly an amazing coach.
and the women's game is killing it right now.
And we do know that the off-the-court stuff would translate for her, though, here at Kentucky.
I mean, she is a great ambassador for that program, and I think she'd do great in that role.
And she's done great at South Carolina.
But if I was – but when you're here, just think about it.
If our next coach is either Hurley, Donovan, or Drew, we will be one of the first schools in the history to hire a coach who's won a national championship away from another school.
That just doesn't happen very often.
So like, and all three of our choices have.
Have one a title.
So who's next?
Got Cat Head up next.
Cat Head.
How are you?
How are you guys?
Doing good.
Hey, I just want to voice something.
I think everybody else has done covered or, you know, we've talked about it.
This is Cal being his used car salesman.
He wants this to be about him.
It's always been about him.
and he wants to hold us hostage.
So I don't think we need to make a knee jerk hired.
But what I do like to see is that moving truck backing up on Richmond Road
and packing that shit out.
No cussing.
I appreciate the call.
We can't have cussing.
I'm sorry.
I'm going to hang up.
We can't have cussing on the radio.
They don't let me do that.
If cow, here's what I would say about cow.
if he cares about the university, and I have no reason to think that he doesn't,
he's given him a lot of himself in the last 15 years.
He's been a great ambassador for this place.
If he does, then he needs to call and let UK know he's leaving.
Like he needs to do that.
That's the right thing to do, especially if you have a deal with Arkansas,
then you just need to go ahead and do that,
because that allows Kentucky to move on,
and that allows you to move on.
If you care about this place, we can't have another 24 hours of everybody wondering what's going on.
You're right.
I think he generally cares about the state.
We've seen him with these fundraisers he's done for West Liberty Tornado or the Mayfield tornado or the flooding in eastern Kentucky.
He generally cares about us.
He has been an awesome ambassador for this place.
I think he's a good person and I think he's been a really great coach.
but I struggle to think of what the reason is besides spite
that would make you not tell your employer you're leaving.
What is that reason?
There will only be two reasons.
One, you want to come back, and that ain't happening.
Or two, spite, and don't do that.
Like, don't end like that.
Remember what I, what do I always say on this show?
The first and last impression.
What are the two most important things you do in life,
your first and your last impression?
Don't make this be our last impression.
is sitting here waiting for you to make a decision
and we can't call coaches because we're waiting on you.
That's what I was exactly about to say
because I'm fearful that that is becoming the last impression with Cal.
Even with the bad runs that they've had over the last four years.
If he takes care of it today, though, it won't.
But if we get into tomorrow,
then there's going to be, that'll be the national story.
What's happening?
Yeah.
By the delay.
Don't, just don't do that, Cal.
You don't want to do that, in my opinion.
UFC 300 is what Saturday?
It's in Vegas, I know that.
But when is it?
I don't know.
This weekend, maybe.
UFC 300, I think, is Saturday, and you can bet $5 and win 100 with the biggest fights of the year.
That's right.
It's a huge bite between Pereira and Hill and many exciting undercard bets.
Go to Draft Kings, new customers bet $5.

Taking it all in.
I understand.
Take it all right.
We'll take a break and be right back.
We are here at KS. Bars Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Mario is here on his second day.
It's interesting, Mario.
You film us for like five minutes and you stop.
You just like, this next segment's not going to be interesting.
Can you just feel it?
You just kind of know like this next segment.
They're not going to say anything where you're waiting for something.
I understand.
I just like the mindset of, you know what,
I just got a feeling they don't have it this segment.
He'll sit this one out.
899-280-2287.
One person writes, Matt, maybe Cal hasn't told UK
because he's waiting to tell the players himself.
Well, too late.
I mean, they already know.
I mean, it's already been reported that at least two players found out by Twitter.
Really?
Didn't know that.
So, no, I don't buy that.
I mean, it's been for, who doesn't in Kentucky know this at this point?
I mean, does anybody believe that?
Carter Knox decommitted, right?
He opened up his recruitment again.
So, I mean, I guess that's, the people are getting the message, regardless of that
there was a player's meeting or not.
Mario, I want you to come over here because I want to have a conversation with you real quick.
Billy, give him just a thing.
I want it, because I think this is an important view to articulate.
All right, Mario, Mario's new with KSR.
Mario, how old are you?
24.
24.
So you have almost no memory of a coach before Cal, right?
Do not. Cal was the first coach that I was playing when I was a fan.
Are you sad that Cal is leaving?
I'm not sad.
I'm just, I'm more surprised than anything, at least for me because when I started, you know.
But you sent me a text where you said something like, what are we going to do if the next guy is worse?
I feel like for people your age, that you're really worried about that.
I am very worried.
I said it countless times in many different people.
Like, what are you going to do?
Are you really going to find somebody better than Cal?
But do you, but like you, you know that Kentucky was good before him.
I didn't know that, but I never saw it.
But I think that's interesting, Ryan, that for guys like you, and this is not a criticism,
you didn't see Kentucky being good before Cal so it's hard for you to believe.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
You tell me this 10 years ago that Cow was going to get fired, I wouldn't believe you.
Well, he didn't get fired.
Well, you know, he's on his way out.
Yeah.
But don't you think that's interesting?
like I do feel like for guys like him, this is like almost a scary time because you haven't
been through this before.
For sure.
For sure.
Absolutely.
Just different.
You also told me that you were worried the NBA guys wouldn't come back.
I don't think they will come back.
And you're friends with some of them.
Yeah.
Yeah, I was going to say, I've interviewed a fair sure amount of them.
But I don't, and they're very, very strong on supporting cow.
And I just, I don't honestly think that they're going to come back.
And cows changed a lot of their lives.
You know, so I don't think that, you know, they'll come back and support Kentucky as much as they do.
Cowell is their guy.
So do you think like Devin Booker, when he's coming back to college, you think he's going to come to Arkansas instead of, you think he's going to go to Fayetteville instead of Kentucky?
He's more likely to do that than Kentucky.
He's more likely to do that.
Really?
Yeah, I just think they have a strong relationship with Cal.
A lot of these guys that come to Kentucky, they don't necessarily always come because of the.
brand of Kentucky. It's most likely because of
Cal. And that's part of
the tradeoff, Ryan, you have with Cal.
Is Cow markets Cal and
not Kentucky, which is great until
he leaves?
You know? It happens all the time. We've seen it.
I mean, a lot of it, we've had
players come here that haven't even played for Kentucky
and they just go straight to the NBA. You look at Shaden
Sharp who came here and he didn't
suit up in a jersey, just went straight
to the NBA. So for the guys that are out
there that you hear Kentucky, who would you want?
to be the coach.
Who would I want right now?
I like Dan Hurley, but I don't think that's going to happen.
You know, I think it's a good.
So, all right, let's say you can't get him.
Who would you like?
Probably Billy Donovan.
Okay.
I would like to see Billy Donovan.
You weren't even alive when Billy Donovan.
I was.
I was.
I was.
I was.
All right.
Well, thank you, Mario.
No problem.
Welcome to KSR.
It is interesting to hear that generation of Kentucky fans.
Like the last four years doesn't really phase them.
They remember the glory day.
more than what has happened recently.
And they want Cal to still be the guy
when a lot of us are like, man,
and maybe it's time for a change.
Yeah.
Who's up next?
Bradley is up next.
Bradley.
Bradley, go ahead, Bradley.
Yeah, what's up?
I got a, had a couple just points
and then a question I'll leave you with.
I think Mario kind of hit it on that head with what he said.
I think Cal's made this about himself and his pride
and he's prideful and it's no longer really about the Kentucky
on the guy's check.
Now, I know we're Kentucky, like we're to go to standard,
but a lot of these guys don't come because we're Kentucky anymore.
They come because it's Calipari,
and that's come back and bid us as a university,
especially now that he's leaving.
But this was always going to be the case, though.
I do think to some extent that when Cal left,
when you build the university around an individual,
when that individual leaves,
the question is, what are you left with?
Right?
I talked about this the other day with, and again, I don't mean to, I'm not trying to get political.
I almost wear my stick to sports shirt today.
But when Donald Trump leaves the Republican Party, what's left if it's centered around him?
The same thing I think is a little bit true with Cal.
When you center something around an individual, when that individual leaves, it's hard because it was centered around him.
I agree with that.
I agree with that.
But to my point with that, I think Mitch, and I love Mitch, he's, he's,
He's given him, he's given Cal a little bit too much leeway with those things.
And that's kind of why we're in the situation that we're in.
And there's that disconnect between the athletic department and Cal.
I mean, Mitch is Cal's boss.
If I treated my boss like Cal treats Mitch, like I would have been fired a long time ago.
There's a lot of truth to that.
But it's hard and I appreciate.
Go ahead.
And I love Mitch, but he, you know, he's got to have little blame of this.
But Cal's, he's proud for him.
That's why he hasn't even left yet.
And it's been, one, almost 48 hours.
It's because he's doing it.
He's trying to do it his way, just like he did.
I think everything you just said, I appreciate the call.
That's going to be my Kentucky-branded call today.
I agree with all that.
But to take up for Mitch, what's he supposed to do?
When Cal comes out and, like, has the start he has,
how are you going to tell him to stop?
Yeah.
You know?
And even this year, when things were rolling, you know,
a lot of there was a time when I thought this team's playing as good as anybody in the country.
So, again, your coach is winning and succeeding.
And to the point about younger players, I mean, I don't think there's any guys.
Maybe Reed Shepard is the exception, but players go where their coach is recruiting them, not the university.
Playing for the name on the front of your shirt instead of the back, I understand that.
I think is an outdated concept.
But I also think we're acting like the new guy won't be able to do anything.
So let's just say you got Scott Drew.
You know who Vijay Edge can be is Mario.
He's the best player in the country.
Guess where he's going?
Baylor.
Okay?
You think he's going because he wants to be in Waco?
He's going because he likes Scott Drew.
So he'll probably come here if Scott Drew comes.
Danny Hurley, you think those guys go there because they love Stores, Connecticut?
No, they love him.
So it's not like the next guy is not going to be.
Now, will he be as good at Cal as getting guys?
Probably not.
But can he win just as many or more games than we've won in the last four years, Ryan?
I think he can.
I think he can.
We won't have the NBA players.
but we might have more wins, and that does matter to me.
We'll take a break and be right back.
Welcome back to Techie Sports Radio, 859-280-2287.
There are a lot of Arkansas people saying the Arkansas Board of Trustees meeting is today,
and that's when they expect the Cal contract to be approved.
If that's true, then we should know this afternoon.
It also means that if for some reason it's not improved at that thing, then we know we'll see.
I still think, though, well, let me read another one.
One person writes, Matt, don't you think this is just legal stuff?
Cal doesn't want to say he's resigning until he knows the contract is approved.
Maybe, but this doesn't happen at other schools.
When's the last time you remember this scenario?
You ever heard this scenario before?
where it's like 48 hours after it's reported true and you still don't know anything?
No, because usually a board of trustees will have an emergency meeting and do it like immediately.
Like if they reach an agreement, boom, they meet and it's done.
They usually literally meet like that an hour later.
Yes.
Yeah.
I saw some of the Arkansas fans already coming after you for some comments that you had yesterday.
Well, I made the comment that we talked about earlier where I talked about some of the things that were going around Lexington and they got mad.
But you know what?
That's fine.
They're Arkansas fans.
I mean, what do I get?
I told you this during the break.
I feel like I got that feeling in my stomach.
It's going to get crazy this afternoon.
Like, it's coming.
You think so?
I think it's coming.
Yep.
I didn't feel it yesterday.
Yesterday got crazy.
Today I'm feeling.
I'm feeling like we're in for a wild afternoon.
I think you got to stay by your phones this afternoon just to see, you know, if we get to
six o'clock tonight and nothing's happened, then I think it's like, all right, what is
going?
went off. Yeah. I already couldn't put my phone down yesterday, so I am just on edge. So I just
buckled up and I would pull over because I have to buckle up and put my phone down. True.
And that's exactly, you turn and yeah. That's exactly what I did. Now one person writes,
Matt, do you think UK's fan base will get unified after this is over? Yes. You got it too.
I do. I think it will. You know, I mean, there's going to be people who are upset. But once he's your coach,
like he's your coach.
Yeah.
You know, whoever that is, and then you've got to roll with it.
Like, so, yeah, I do think there'll be some holdouts who are upset,
but you know what, that's just the way it goes.
But I think overall, though, the fan base needs this,
something we can rally around.
And a new, what better way to do it than a new head coach?
By the way, I do think it's also noted.
And me talking about Scott Drew does not mean I think Scott Drew will be the coach,
although I do think he's probably the favorite.
But Scott Drew has the number three recruiting class in America right now.
We have the number two.
But he's at Baylor.
Yeah.
A little harder to recruit down there.
Wait until he gets to Kentucky.
You know, I mean, if he can have the number three class at Baylor,
what can he do at Kentucky?
You know?
Right.
And, you know, to a degree, I thought the fan base was somewhat unified
since Cal didn't make a sweet 16 run.
And I think the expectation was that I think there are,
I think
I'm glad Mario was here
because I think that age group
is the group that's the most passionate
for Cal.
Like, I think that's the group.
And then I think I see a lot of like
on Facebook sort of
a certain age of people on Facebook,
older folks who are like,
Cal's a great person.
I think the hardest core Kentucky fans
were ready for a change.
I think some of the younger ones
weren't.
And I think that's,
probably the division. Who's next? Randy is up next. Randy, go ahead, Randy.
Good morning, gentlemen. The caller before, I'm going to use a cow-ism. He does not poop ice cream, okay?
Everyone is replaceable. We will move on, and we're all going to go to Lexington. We're going
to cheer the next coach, whoever that may be. Now, my question is, with all this taking time,
did the NCAA step in and say, hey, you guys are overshattering?
or overshadowing and national championships.
Yeah, I don't think so, no.
But honestly, the way to not overshadow it would have been to be official.
This chatter is now overshattering it more,
overshadowing it more than that.
If it had become official Sunday night,
everybody would have had a day of talking,
and then they would have moved on.
Moved on, right.
I go Hurley,
Nate Oates, and Scott Drew.
That's my three and Dolovan's four,
because just for the simple fact of where he's at, been out of the college game so long.
And you said Oates maybe wasn't on the list.
It's hard to say.
I've had two conflicting sources on Oates,
and they've told me the exact opposite information.
So I can't say either way.
I had one person say U.K. had some unofficial overtures and was told no.
And then I had another person say U.K. was not going to reach out.
So Oates said no, so it looked like he didn't get passed over.
And I honestly don't know which one is true.
But could him putting that statement out say, yes, I am interested in the job.
No, I don't know.
To me, that statement is either a, I appreciate the call.
It's either Ryan face value, maybe there was interest and now he's decided to stay,
or it was be like me putting out a statement that I won't be the next coach of Kentucky.
Well, nobody asks me.
So, like, that's easy for me to say.
I don't know which one it is, though.
Yeah, and it could be like you said.
Maybe he's saving fate.
Maybe he realized, okay, I'm not going to be one of the top-tier candidates,
so I don't want to look like I got passed over, so I'm going to like,
no, I'm not interested.
Just go ahead and.
Yeah, I don't, but honestly, I don't know which one it was, so I'm not going to say.
Well, maybe even the boosters came to him and gave him a commitment to funds that.
Possibly.
True.
That's doing it in Arkansas.
Yeah, possibly that could be it, too.
Who's next?
Vincent is up next.
Vincent.
How are you, Vincent?
Good.
First time, long time.
Who are?
I am tired of hearing all this talk about how Cal put all these players in the NBA.
Besides his first year with Harrelson and Miller and them,
who has he actually put in the NBA?
Do we really think that these five-star players who have offers from Kansas,
UCLA, North Carolina, Duke wouldn't have been in the NBA anyway?
I think there are people who he has made pros that wouldn't have been pros otherwise.
So I think Nick Richards, for instance, as a guy, I'm not sure he'd have been a pro otherwise, and he was a pro because of Cal.
Antonio Reeves, he wasn't going to be a pro.
Now I think he's going to be a pro.
I think Tyler Hero was better than people thought.
Reed Shepard was better than people thought.
Now, you could also say there are dudes who were worse, like Scowl, for instance, and Cleo Whitney, and those things are true, too.
So I think Cal deserves credit for those guys being in the NBA.
But I think he also deserves criticism for not winning as much as he did with all those guys in the NBA.
Appreciate the golf.
Do you disagree?
No.
I think Cal doesn't really get enough credit for his coaching ability.
People are easy to jump on the bad way.
He's not a good ex as a nose coach.
But then you hear those people.
Do you think he's a good ex as an O's coach?
I think during the game, no.
but I think for practice.
Actually, you know what?
I'm laughing, but I agree with you.
Yeah.
I used to go, his first 10 years, I would go to a handful of practices every year.
The dude coaches.
Yeah.
The dude coaches his offense.
The dude did a great job of saying, you do this here, here, here, there.
Now, that's different than in-game adjustments.
Yes.
So I think those are two different skills.
And actually, I laughed, but I think Ryan's right.
I think he was good at one skill.
I think Robic was the dude at the second skill.
Robic was good at the X and O's.
Here's what Robic was brilliant at.
Robic was brilliant at watching game tape and saying,
here's how we beat these guys.
Cal's really good at executing his system.
Robic was the guy that said, you know what?
We're playing Texas A&M in the first round.
They're big and physical.
Here's how we're going to beat him.
Yeah, right.
Well, to a degree, I think he's a player's coach, right?
And he'll think about them first,
and that's where it's rubbed.
Big Blue Nation at times the wrong way.
This NBA hold hands, make sure you're in the starting lineup
so you don't lose your countenance.
You are the most.
You are the youngest person here besides Mario,
and you are without question the most old man these kids today
with their holding hands.
And like, it's funny.
Yeah, you got something to say.
Say it to my face.
Okay, you've got to stop one to fight everybody all the time.
I don't want to fight anybody.
I just call out a text line.
Not during KSR, we're lovers, we're not fighters.
He's still very upset.
Who's next?
Anthony is up next.
Anthony, go ahead, Anthony.
Hey, fellas.
You guys are being listened to it back home in Colorado.
They want to listen to your feed.
They ask me, send me that feed.
I want to hear what they're saying over there.
But I can hardly wait until we get a few of these guys from the portal,
just like Tennessee did with Dalton Connect.
He came from my area, Prairie,
View High School in Thornton, Colorado.
And let me tell you what, look what he did to that team.
I can hardly wait until a coach comes in here with a few older kids, and guess what?
We are sitting there on the couch watching late basketball in March Madness.
That's what this is all about.
And I'll tell you what, we'll forget real quick all this stuff that happened in the past,
and we'll get us a coach that can coach against the zone.
Thank you, guys.
Take care.
Appreciate the call.
I do think it's worth noting when we lost to.
Oakland.
Who are the two guys that played the best?
Reeves and Mitchell.
Antonio Reeves and Trey Mitchell, the old guys.
Yep.
That's who played the best.
And I don't think you can forget that.
No.
Speaking of that, Antonio Reeves will be here Friday night to sign autographs at 630.
He's, it's $25, which I think is actually a really good price for these kinds of things at the end of the year.
So hope to have him on the show at the end of the week.
To be fair to that kid, because of all that's going on, it's going to be contingent on that.
I'm not putting him on here to have to deal with this stuff.
So it'll partly be contingent on where we are on everything.
But he's going to do the signing either way on Friday night, and we look forward to that.
859-280-2287.
This says won an idea for Valentine's Day, so let me change it.
Would you like an idea for Memorial Day?
I would love it, yeah.
How about you make a special dinner with the one you love?
That's a great Memorial Day plan.
You make a couple of New York strips with fingerling potatoes.
What are fingerling potatoes?
I don't know.
I never heard that.
Is it finger lean like finger length?
Maybe.
Yeah, she says yes.
Is it really?
I was just kidding.
That's what fingerling is?
Let's look it up.
That can't be what it is.
But you seem like you know and you spoke confidently, so I'm going to say yes.
You can get New York strips or share a 20-ounce rib-eye that has been reverse-seared.
Oh, okay.
You have these great items shipped and delivered to you.
Noche Linda Farms, 859-707-7, 2004.
Kentucky Proud, located in Bourbon County, dry-age beef.
It's all there at Noce Linda Farms, 859-707-7-004.
Give the gift of Kentucky Proud beef to the one you love.
What is it?
They are like bigger-sized potatoes.
You could say finger length.
You could see the finger length.
It cannot be the case that fingering means finger length.
That can't be right.
Fingerlings have a low starch content.
They roast up buttery and creamy.
This makes them different from rouset, potatoes.
That's what it says.
But they're long like a finger.
How long are your fingers?
You got a little stubby.
We'll take a break and be right back.
This is our.
Welcome back to Tatee Sports.
radio. See, the great thing about this show is you learn stuff. This woman said, fingerling potatoes
were because they're finger-length, and I thought that wouldn't make sense. Why is it finger-ling
if it's finger-length? But here's the definition of a finger-ling potato. All right. There's some of the
most ancient potatoes that exist today. They are shaped like a fat four-to-six-inch finger with a
slight half-moon curve, hence the name fingerling. Or, like Ryan said, like his fingers.
Like, here we go.
Short, fat, stubby little fingers.
With a half-moon curve.
Half-moon curve.
Look at what.
It's like, we don't need to go to school.
We learn everything right here.
So I've actually seen those.
Those are those little things that like, they're like a moon.
Like, right?
Like their little moon shake.
Yeah, you probably had them.
I didn't know that was a fingerling.
Did you know that, Mario?
Did you know that, Billy?
I didn't.
No.
Educating the masses.
This is, yesterday and today are probably two of our five most listened to shows ever.
and everyone in this state should now know finger-ling potatoes and noce Linda Farms.
Cornbread hemp, if you need to sleep, how about cornbread hemp?
com.
I've needed it, especially Monday night or Sunday night when I was up all to like three looking at everything.
Go to cornbread hemp, full spectrum, flour-only hemp CBD gummies, promo codes KSR.
You get 30% off.
Billy, you like, do you get cornbread hemp?
I do, and I do want to give a testament to him.
My neighbor has sleep apnea, and I give them some of the sleep ones.
There are sleep ones, yes.
And I'm not going to say it's solved everything, but he's sleeping much better.
Good.
That's good.
I'm glad.
It's good.
Cornbreadhimp.com, the promo code is KSR.
They got different flavors.
I use them.
I think everybody on this show uses them.
Check out cornbreadhemp.com promo code KSR.
Mario, we'll get you some just so you know.
That way, because I'm sure.
I'm sure you don't have the real thing, so don't worry about it.
Who's up next?
We got Sparky.
Even had Rick laugh.
Even Rick laughed at that one.
Go ahead, Sparky.
Hey, Matt, good to talk to you this morning.
There's so much unknown right now.
There's been a lot of speculation and uncertainty and amidst all that.
First, I just want to say I'm really grateful that we can kind of process the experience as a group.
You know, you, the KSR community, it really makes it a lot easier for us to navigate the experience.
So first of all, big thanks for all of that.
One question.
You years ago wrote the forward for Aaron Torres' book about the 2010 season.
I did, yes.
As this chapter of Kentucky basketball prepares to close,
would you consider writing a book yourself about the entire Cal era once you have some time
to give yourself some space away from it?
Yeah, probably not just because for time's sake I'm working on another book now.
but I will say this.
I appreciate the call.
I love the Calpare era.
I loved it.
And what you can, it's,
I know people are probably tired of me talking about it like a relationship,
but you, you know, you can be in a relationship with somebody and it ends
and maybe even ends poorly,
but you can still say you had amazing times together.
I love the Calipari era.
They'll never be a team.
liked more than that John Wall team.
That John Wall team was the most fun
year of my life.
I loved it. The 2015
team was awesome. The ride
in 2014 through the tournament.
We'll never have a ride more fun than that 2014
team where you're hitting shots at the end of every
game. Fox, bam, and monk, I still
remember roaming the streets of Memphis
sticking my head in bars because I was
so nervous. Watch Kentucky make a shot.
Leave and then go to another one.
In 2012, watching the National
championship and standing on the court watching the team that I had grown up loving and watching
one shiny moment with Robic and those guys and they're crying and like with Oscar Combs, which
was a great memory with me forever.
Watching Brandon Knight in Newark, New Jersey hit a shot at the buzzer and then throw it to
Liggins in the next game to hit a corner three to go to the final four.
You know, watching Kevin Knox in West Virginia go off at the end of that game, which was
absolutely unbelievable. All of these moments are special and they don't go away. There still was
an amazing 10 years with John Caliperi. And even in the last few years, we've had moments,
even through all this negativity, it still has had awesome things that we will always remember.
So I don't want the ending to close the book. I think you've laughed at me that I've had like
four serious, real serious girlfriends in my life and I'm still friends with all of them and you find
that weird?
Yes.
It's because if you had great experiences with people, why do you have to look back upon it negatively?
You can still look at it as a great thing and it just ended.
And that's how I look at Cal.
Contrary to what anybody says, I don't, not only do not hate Cal, I adore the time we had together.
with that said, it's best that we've all gone separate ways.
And those things to me, Ryan, are not mutually exclusive.
You said the way I think a lot of us feel.
I think it's just going to be rough for a couple years when he comes in with the SEC opponent
and sits on the other bench.
That may be tough to get over for a couple years.
Maybe then once he retires and moves on, then we can welcome him back like we did with Tubby.
One of them with Ryan, I can't talk to ex-girlfriends.
but, you know, it is important to note that Cal was a big part of the rise of KSR as well.
Of course it was.
And I'll also say to Mario's point about the guys not being around, that may happen in the short term.
But in the long term, they'll be back.
Just like the Patino guys were alienated for a little while when he went to Louisville.
They're all back now.
They all come back here.
They'll be back one day.
Cal's not going to coach forever.
They're going to go to Fayetteville and realize they don't want to spend time in Fayetteville.
Who wants to go to Fayetteville?
They'll be back.
It might, DeMarcus Cousins, I love to see his podcast where last week he was arguing,
you're crazy if you let go a cow, and then this week he's already talking about who he wants
the next coach to be.
You know why he's doing that?
Because he cares.
This stuff is bigger than any one person.
It's bigger than any coach.
It's bigger than any media outlet.
We're going to be fine.
Now, I don't know what's going to happen in the next 24 hours, but we're going to be fine.
Thanks to everybody for listening.
We'll see you tomorrow.
Hopefully we'll know where we are.
We'll see.
This has been KSR.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy,
not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
