Starting point is 00:02:33 Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio. I have to tell you, you folks, our listeners are amazing, the amount of diversity of interest, places, the amount of people with connections to Estonia. One guy just sent me, Shannon, a restaurant in Tallon, Estonia. Estonia, he said is the best restaurant he's ever eaten at. Oh, good recommendation.
Starting point is 00:03:01 But like, isn't that crazy that somebody would know that? Yeah. Yeah. It's amazing. I got a story that I guess Isaiah Briscoe won a basketball championship in Estonia a couple of years ago. I think he was the MVP, wasn't he? I believe he was the MVP now that you say that.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Wow. That's amazing. The KS Bar is now open if you want to come have lunch. Tomorrow we will be there for the show. So all of you in town for graduation. a rare Friday at the bar for lunch. We don't do that a lot. We usually have remotes,
Starting point is 00:03:30 but we're doing it tomorrow because of derby. So feel free to stop by. One person writes, Matt, I'm giving two to one odds. Ryan gets caught up in an Estonian Ponzi scheme. That's a pretty good possibility. I think so. I think that's a very good possibility, actually.
Starting point is 00:03:50 I could see it. Another person writes, Matt, I've been to Estonia. It's beautiful. and but their people are all very sassy. So I think Kerr will end up being a very sassy player. I don't think there's a question on that, Drew. Like all you got to do is watch film of him.
Starting point is 00:04:08 At Arizona, West Virginia, he's a dude that likes to get in people's face. I don't think he'll start for us, but I think he'll play a lot and we'll see it in him. Oh yeah. I think we've already seen plenty of that Estonian attitude. He seems to be kind of funny too. This isn't great for radio, but a screenshot going around where someone was complaining about him on social media for turning the ball over, and he just replied, like, Dog, I'm trying in all caps.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Like, I'm doing my best out here. Yeah, somebody goes, you stink. Why do you, why do you keep turning it over? Why do you keep turning it over? And shit, he just wrote, dog, I'm trying. I love it. I love it. I do like that.
Starting point is 00:04:44 What do you want me? Do you think I'm trying to turn it over? We haven't really had a whole lot of people like that. I don't feel like that everybody else hates, but we love, you know? Like, there's been some in the SEC throughout the years, actually a lot. but I don't feel like Kentucky's really had a guy like that. Yeah, I don't think so. What's the last guy we've had that everyone else hated?
Starting point is 00:05:04 Boogie. Yeah, boogie's definitely one of them. Is there one since Boogie? I don't know if everyone hated Liggins because he wasn't a big enough name, but when he turned it on and got in a guy's face, some crowds would turn on Liggins pretty quickly. Yeah, I don't think fans knew him enough. Yeah, that's what I wasn't big enough name, but when he'd do it, he would get.
Starting point is 00:05:21 I think boogie might be the last one, somebody can give me another one. Oh, Tyler Hero. Yeah, Tyler Hero's a good one. If you didn't like Tyler Hero, I think people really didn't like him. You know, we talked about this. Trey Mitchell took on that role when teams were on Rob or Reed or DJ or somebody. Trey tried to become the villain.
Starting point is 00:05:41 Well, I mean, we've had guys who wanted to fight the other team. I'm saying who other fan bases cared. I mean, Lance Ware wanted to fight everybody, but I'm not sure the other fans really cared one way or the other. Yeah, maybe Hero may be the, uh, maybe the, uh, maybe the, last one. Another person writes, Matt, I want to know what you and Drew think. Was that Chin Coleman's burner account? Oh, man. Do you know about this? I'll explain it to Shannon since I don't think he knows. Go ahead and answer Elaine, all right, because she's tried. She's already had her 30 seconds. Yeah, Elaine, I want to talk to you, but you'll have to wait for the other 30 seconds.
Starting point is 00:06:15 We see. So, so yesterday, an account was discovered on Twitter, Shannon, that had written 200 tweets in its existence. And every single one of them was taking up for Chin Coleman. Okay. Like who would even take up for him? No, every single one of them was taking up for Chin Coleman. With random fans, with me, some of them to Frank Franklin over there. Every account, every tweet was about Chin Coleman.
Starting point is 00:06:52 then all of a sudden someone posts on a message board is this Chin Coleman's burner account and it starts to become a thing and people start responding to him going hey Chin see a chin and then they delete the account. So it's either him or it's a close friend maybe family member. So what do we think, Drew, do we think it's either Chin Coleman? it has to be related to him, right? Like, it has to be if every, if every tweet you've ever written is about Chin Coleman,
Starting point is 00:07:28 don't you have to be about that? And they weren't just, someone writing a tweet, they were replying to people that wrote Chin Coleman, not tagged, like someone got online, searched Chin Coleman, and just started replying to everyone that had ever mentioned him. I, seems like if it's not him, it's someone very close to him.
Starting point is 00:07:45 Because who, my thing is always, not would Chin Coleman create this, who has the time where they would just create an account to defend Chin Coleman and that's a very small group of people. Ryan, who would do that? Somebody is kid, wife, brother, somebody. I don't know if it was really Chin, but somebody in his immediate circle, I think, was who is behind it. And because of Drew now, Shannon, there's a parody account of Chin Coleman called Steakhouse Chin,
Starting point is 00:08:14 which just talks about him being out eating and stuff like that. That's because of you, Drew. That's not me. That's because of you. I'm not saying you did it, but that's cause of you. I went back and played my clip. I didn't say anything about a steakhouse. So Chin made his own legacy on that one.
Starting point is 00:08:29 And Frank's rant, there was not one word about a steakhouse. Here he is analyzing the deals at McDonald's for Thursday. Couldn't get into his analytics account, but he could get into the McDonald's. See, and mentioning the analytics account. We probably did have something to do with the login. Yes. I think that was on us. No doubt.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Yeah, that is probably on us. 859-2-80-2-827. Let's go to Nathan. 30 seconds. Go ahead, Nathan. Hey, guys. I think Isaiah Briscoe had a little bit of that, like, teams would hate him, too. That's another player that came to my mind.
Starting point is 00:09:01 And then I was thinking, I think with Butler and Krissa, people need to sort of reevaluate how they think about point guards under Pope going forward. It's not going to be like Cal where they're responsible for doing everything and setting up the offense. The way that Pope's whole offense has run is, you know, the ball doesn't stick. It's constant movement. And, you know, really, you don't need a lead guard that's going to, just set the table for everyone in the offense.
Starting point is 00:09:21 So it's more about that. Yeah, I mean, I think all these players, Drew, you have to evaluate differently than we're used to evaluating players. Because under Cal's system, players were asked to do everything. Like, to play for Cal, you had to be, like, you had to be a ball handler. You had to be, like, he didn't run stuff for you. So you had to do everything in order to play. I think it's different.
Starting point is 00:09:45 I think with these people, Pope is filling a role. And so I think you just see different. things mattering, honestly, Drew, than maybe before. Yeah, and I agree with the caller that if Pope's offense is firing all cylinders in a game, you won't need someone that just can take a guy off the dribble. They're going to be getting easy looks, but there will be games where it's not working, and you will need someone that can penetrate like that, and that's why I hope they add someone. Do you, I mean, are you excited, Ryan, to watch a team where they, like, run plays and pass
Starting point is 00:10:14 and that kind of thing? It's, what a change of pace. it's going to be for, especially coming off this last season, where they were averaging over 85 points a game or something. Now we're going to see a lot of set half court offensive plays. But I mean, they still score a ton of points too. They do. Yeah, I don't think, I think we can still score just as many points as we did. I just think it's going to be done a different way. I mean, I think we're going to see one of the things we always wondered is why don't they run plays to get Reeves or Shepard open, Drew? I think that's going to happen this year. Absolutely what's
Starting point is 00:10:46 going to happen. That's exactly what he runs. And these bigs were getting there. they all pass well, and I think you're going to get used to seeing a big guy stepping out in that high post and just hitting a guy for a wide open layup or a wide open three with how they run that Zoom action. Let's go to Jeremy. What's up, Jeremy? Hey, guys, I also want to talk about the idea that we need one more guy and the possibility that that's Jackson, that's Jackson.
Starting point is 00:11:08 First, I'd love to have Jackson. I think it'd be a great addition to the roster, but I don't know that he's that guy. And secondly, like the previous caller, I don't know that we need that guy. You look at Yukon stats last year. They had five starters that averaged about 65 points a game. They got another 15, 16 out of their bench, which means those guys are averaging points of game. That's true, but they also have two, they had two lottery picks.
Starting point is 00:11:32 They had two lottery picks. I mean, whether or not, however much they averaged, they were still two lottery picks. I think you need a dude who can be an NBA player. I think the only guy on the roster, Chandler and Garrison, who probably both will be coming off the bench, are the two dudes with potential NBA futures right now. So who's your derby horse, Ryan?
Starting point is 00:11:59 Did you pick it? Yeah, I had Encino and then he's scratched. So I'm just boycott in the derby. I'm going to all. No, you got to pick one. I'm all in on the oaks. We got to pick one. Pick a derby horse.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Forever Young. That sounds like a great. It's a great song. I'll go with that. What about you, Drew? That's my horse. Forever Young. All right. What about you, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:12:18 I don't even know the names of that one. What's your horse? Well, here, I'll read you the horses. Doork, Sierra Leone, Mystic Dan, Catching Freedom, Catalytic, Just Steel, Honor Marie, just a touch, T.O. Password, Forever Young, Track Fantam, West Saratoga, endlessly domestic product, Grand Moe the First, fierceness, stronghold, resilient, society man, epic ride. Ooh. Give me the first one, Dornock. Why do you like Dornock? I just like the name. Well,
Starting point is 00:12:50 like how it's spelled too. It's not even, it's D-O-R-N-O-C-H. So my horse is Sierra Leone, but Drew, I'm going to be honest with you. I'm a little worried about something about that horse.
Starting point is 00:13:00 I'm going to make your prediction. I think this might be an issue. This was from the Herald Leader today. The naming of racehorses can be a fun game and an esoteric exercise that peaks deep into pedigrees and wordplay. Let's take, for example, Sierra Leone. One of its owners owns a horse named Gun Runner. Gunrunner is the father of Sierra Leone.
Starting point is 00:13:24 He named it Sierra Leone because the African nation is known as a center of arms dealing. Yeah, I can see that one getting a little pushback. Drew? I mean, why would you even want to make that connection for derby horses? I'm not sure you want to say. I name my horse for this African country because they have a lot of guns. And the dad was gun runner. I just, Shannon, you remember I said this? Somebody in the country is going to say that's not the greatest. I'm surprised they haven't already.
Starting point is 00:13:58 And that's one of the favorites. Yeah, exactly. So I'm still picking it because I think it's the best horse. I might have said, you know what, Shannon, I had a relative from there. Yeah. Unless you didn't. Yeah, don't say that if you didn't. Because then you were just digging a whole even.
Starting point is 00:14:14 deeper for yourself. You don't want to say if you didn't. You know, I thought it, I thought it, remember, we had the trivia question, right? It means Lion Mountain. I thought that was cool. And we missed it. I don't know that we would say Gun Runner. Why don't I just say Lion Mountain then? That'd be a better horse name. I think because what he said it was, Shannon, is exactly why he did it. Yep. We'll see. Will, go ahead, Will. Hey Matt, hey guys. I'm really, really excited with what I've seen so far into the Mark Pope era. Someone who lived throughout pretty much the entire Coach Cal era,
Starting point is 00:14:49 it's been really refreshing to see that kind of connect between the fan base and the coach once again. And I'm just really excited for the new season to go underway with these new guys. Kobe Berea seems like an absolute... Let me extend you for a second before he goes. You're young. Was Cal the first coach you can remember? Yes. So were you disappointed when Cal left?
Starting point is 00:15:12 Not really. I mean, obviously the emotional aspect of it, yeah, but like I think it was time, honestly. But I'm glad I'm glad it ended in the way it did and not even on a more sour note because I don't think he deserved that. But I'm really excited. I appreciate the call. I agree with that. Drew, I think there's no way next year in Lexington would have been anything but a disaster for Kentucky. I agree.
Starting point is 00:15:36 And I think Cal is going to have. a much better team in a much better season and his new home and everything's going to be much better here and that's what needed to happen neither's cow and the university of kentucky weren't didn't have the support they needed and weren't together for a good year in lexington so it's best to try next year both are off to a great start it would have been so brutal right it would have been awful the most telling sign of all that was the fact that his buddy john welch left before all this arkansas stuff even came up that that should tell you right there where this It wasn't going to work.
Starting point is 00:16:07 It was not going to work. Stockton mortgage. Tell me about it. Stockton mortgage. You can apply online. You hit a little button there and it says get started. A lot of people out, you know, maybe the interest rates have dropped just enough to get you off the fence and get you going. Now's a good time to buy a house.
Starting point is 00:16:21 So get started with a stockton mortgage. Whether you're a coach moving into town or maybe you're coach moving out of town, Stockton mortgage can help you as a seller or a buyer. Give them a call. Easy to work with. Get you the closing table. Stock to mortgage, MLS, A259, Equal Housing Lender. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Be right back. KSR. Welcome back. Takey Sports Radio. 859-280-22.87. When person writes, Matt, how come you all don't do your show at the derby at the backside like most radio shows in Louisville do this week? Because it would be awful. Shannon, I don't understand why.
Starting point is 00:16:57 Every radio show does that and good for them. But the idea of getting out there every morning at 6 to watch the horses warm up, It sounds to me like the worst thing I can imagine. Yeah. I mean, I don't think our listeners really care about us breaking down a horse race. I'll be honest with you. And I like horse racing. And we will probably have big hair make his pick tomorrow and give you a little insight so you can win some money.
Starting point is 00:17:21 But I think sitting and listening to people preview a horse race on the radio has to be some of the worst radio you could do. And WHAs, God love them. They've been doing it for 30 years, like all day long, starting, I think today, Friday, Saturday. They're playing the races. Okay, that's different. To me, if you decide to play the race and then, like, you tell me about the race right before it happens and then you bet on it, Drew, to me that's different. But to sit there and talk about, you know, I watched the workout this morning for Dunton, Doc Rock,
Starting point is 00:17:57 and it did look good. You know, he was just galloping and he was 23, 14. It's like, how awful that would be. Yeah, and I don't think this panel of experts here would have a lot to add to that. We would be talking about the people walking by, what the building looks like, how early it is. That's the only thing that would interest me is like, look at that guy. That looks weird. You know, Billy is interviewing all the jockeys tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:18:20 No, Derby Day. He's interviewing all the jockeys. Do you know that? What do you mean he's interviewing the jockeys? Like he interviews him, like talks to him after each race. You know, how'd it go for you out there? Now I need to hear this. No, wait.
Starting point is 00:18:31 So, wait. Oh, I didn't know this. Wait a minute, Billy is talking to the jockeys? Yes. Like the winners? Yes. Like Jim Nance? So is he going to be like in the jockey circle?
Starting point is 00:18:41 I guess so. That's his duty. Did you know this, Shannon? Yeah, he's not going to be like on a horse riding next to the winter. He's going to be like in a room with all the rest of the media. Oh, so he's not like down there on. Okay. So he's not on the ground.
Starting point is 00:18:53 I don't believe so. No. Now does Billy like some of those guys speak Spanish, right? Good luck, Billy. So Billy is the jockey interviewer. Yes. Yeah, all day, derby day. We need him to ask the jockeys if the horse knew it was in a race.
Starting point is 00:19:13 We've been trying to get to the bottom of this forever. What is he going to ask him? I don't know. That's a great question to ask him. No, seriously, Shannon, let's say you watched a race. What would you say, what would you ask the jockey when it was over? How to go out there for you? how's the track surface?
Starting point is 00:19:33 Let me ask you a question. Did you want the horse to run faster than it did or slower? I don't know what you ask a jockey. Has he prepared? He knows like some of the terminology. Like what? What terminology? Okay, actually, you know what?
Starting point is 00:19:49 You want to get him on the radio. Get Billy on the phone. I want to ask Billy how prepared he is for this. While we're doing it, let's go to Glenn in Pennsylvania. Glenn, go ahead. Hey, guys. Hey, I'm really excited for Coach Pope and all the staff to come in. I think it's going to be a good change of pace.
Starting point is 00:20:07 It's going to be good to be able to see in-game situations there. And on an entirely different note, what are we supposed to call him? Coach Pope, we had Cowell, we had tubby, we had Jobie. Coach Pope is just too bland. I'm not going to call him. I'm not going to call him, I appreciate the call. That's a good question, Drew. What do we call him?
Starting point is 00:20:28 Is he Mark? Is he Pope? I think he's just Pope, right? In normal circumstances, I would lean Mark, but we have way too many marks. That will get very confusing. So I think he, I think it's Pope. Yeah, I mean, we have Mark Stoops, Mark Fox. The assistant AD is Mark Hill.
Starting point is 00:20:47 So what are we calling him, Ryan? Can't be Mark. Throw Mark out. Can't do that. I think we just have to call him, hey, Pope. And that sounds kind of a little crazy, but there's not another answer, other than Coach Pope. Well, actually, okay, so let's just think about what we call our coaches. We called Cal Cal.
Starting point is 00:21:05 We called Gillespie Billy Clyde, right? Billy G. Billy G. We called tubby, tubby. Rick. What did people call, did they call him Rick at the time? Rick. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:17 Joe B. Rup was Rup. Yeah. All right. So then you got stoops is stoops. Would you agree? Is that what everybody calls him? Then Joker.
Starting point is 00:21:27 I feel like Rich Brooks. you called him Rich Brooks, didn't you? Both names. I believe you did. So maybe we had to do we have to do Mark Pope. I think, Shannon, we go Mark Pope, right? Yeah, Mark Pope. Yeah, I think he's like Rich Brooks, like Matt Jones. Everybody calls me Ryan by both names. Yes.
Starting point is 00:21:45 I think that's what you do. All right, Billy's on the phone. Billy, you're the horse jockey interviewer? They want me to interview people at the races and also some of the jockeys before their race. Oh, you're going to do the Oh, you're talking before the races. Okay, so what are you going to ask the jockeys before the race? I really have no idea, but, you know, we'll ask them about to work out.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Let's practice. No, let's practice, okay? Let's act like, do you know any jockeys? No, no, besides Victor Espinosa, I know him a little bit, but. You mean you know him like personally, or you just know who he is? Yes, yes, yeah. I knew his actual. Wait a minute. You know Victor Espinoza personally, how? He was with his ex-girlfriend, and he was at the same party as me one time.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Oh, you went to a party with Victor Espinoza and his ex-girlfriend? Just the three of you, partying. No, no, there's a lot more people. Okay, well, he's not in the race, so that doesn't help you. I'm looking at the jockeys. He's not in the race. All right, so let's act like I'm Umbarto Rispoli, and I'm the jockey. of endlessly. I walk up to you. You're Billy. Take it from there. Good morning, Roberto.
Starting point is 00:23:06 How are you doing? Umberto. Umberto. That's my name. Not Roberto. Umberto. Umberto. How are you this morning? I'm doing well, Billy. Great. How is, how's the horse been? Endlessly? Is that the horse? Yes. Thank you for being prepared. Endlessly. It's been running well all week. You know, we're, we think if we get the right path, we'll have a shot at the end of the race. And that's great. And how the workout's been. I mean, you've been getting up really early.
Starting point is 00:23:33 You've been doing this for a while. Anything that you've noticed this morning or the previous morning? What do you mean you've been getting up really early? Like, they get up early every day. They're jockeys. It's a lifestyle, Matt. So you just kind of want to dig in and find the stories of. My name is a burtto.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Okay. Burto. All right. So may I ask you, sir, do you know anything about my horse? I don't. I know you have a great opportunity. And, you know, that a lot of people are going to be watching, and this is a great moment not only for you, but the family's involved and the owners. And, you know, I'm rooting for you. I really am. And I just want to know what that feeling's like for you. Well, it's very excited to be in the greatest race of all. And you're rooting for everyone, or just me?
Starting point is 00:24:20 Well, I really don't have a favorite. I root for stories. So, and I think I'm a story. is absolutely one that deserves to be shared. You're going to do a great job, Billy. I can't wait. Like, you got it. Okay? So, umberto and all the other jockeys, good luck. Let me say this, Billy.
Starting point is 00:24:41 If you end up interviewing Umberto, get someone to take a picture of you and him, okay? Okay, I'll do my best. All right. Good luck, Billy. Thank you very much. Thanks. That's going to be great, Shannon. Shaded buzzed Billy
Starting point is 00:24:54 He gets 30 seconds like everybody else The jockey whisper Billy Rutley Glad you got up early this morning We'll take a break here T.J. Smith Personal Injury Attorney Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:25:12 Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. One of the things I like about coming to Louisville, Ryan, is I get to see Venetti really. You know, like I never get to see I see Veneti every single day
Starting point is 00:25:24 never get to see him anymore. He just walked in during the studio. And he made a good point. We've been working here for me 14 years, you 13 years, Drew probably 11, Shannon's been working here longer than me. 20. 20. They've never asked us to be on the derby. Like ever. That's true. Now, Billy is on it. But Shannon, they've still never asked us. Yeah. Why do you think that is? You probably know we don't want to do it. Why even ask, right? I think one year, wouldn't it be fun, though, to host for like an hour during the derby?
Starting point is 00:26:05 Well, you just said it would be terrible to do it there. That's the leading up to it, the week leading into it. But on actual derby day, like to have an hour of coverage, I know they try to win national awards and stuff for it. So maybe that's why they don't do it, Shannon. They don't think we would win it. Yeah. But you don't think like it would be if we anchored two hours there, it wouldn't be. bad. It would be all right, I guess.
Starting point is 00:26:27 If, you know, you want to get out there in the mess. Put us back on KJK for two hours. Is it before noon? I don't need to be on the radio on Derby Day. I'll say that. Well, no, I think they start, don't they start early, don't they? They start like eight or nine in the morning, don't we?
Starting point is 00:26:43 They go all the way to, like, eight at night. It's quite a marathon. One person writes, how about we call Pope Mopo for the Mormon Pope? No. No. Not calling him I don't like that one. You're not going to
Starting point is 00:26:59 Cedric the entertainer line there. You're not going to call him delicious? Not calling another grown man delicious. Okay. All right. Well, I thought it was a decent thing. By the way, I did think yesterday, Ryan, I thought Jerry Tipton was great here yesterday, didn't you?
Starting point is 00:27:13 I thought it was awesome. I mean, like I said, we could have filled two hours with him talking about stories and the details. I know he doesn't want to give away a lot to any book, but I just would just love to be able to sit down. down because he knows things that need, you know, interesting take on, spin on some things. Yeah. I just liked, it was nice, Drew, for people to get to see the, I think people thought because of the way he wrote, he was like this mean kind of whatever. He's actually a very soft-spoken, funny guy. It was interesting to get to hear that on the radio. Yeah, I enjoyed hearing that
Starting point is 00:27:45 yesterday and even in the beginnings of the book, just learning his mindset when he's in this press conferences because it's completely different than what I'm thinking. Probably other people are thinking. As he said, he's trying to ask good questions, not hard or mean, but sometimes they might be contentious, but he's just trying to tell the best story for his readers. I want to tell you something I thought was cool. The last 30 minutes, so he was on from 11 to 11.30. The last 30 minutes of the show, he was out and he was sitting on the patio eating lunch.
Starting point is 00:28:14 And I look up at one point, and I'm like, where's Mario? Because, you know, normally he's filming and stuff during the show. I looked out he was sitting out on the patio while Jerry was having lunch talking to it. And he told me later that he was just asking Jerry for advice and Jerry was giving him advice. I thought that was really cool. First of all, Mario to ask Jerry Tipton, right? Like that's a cool thing. And then Jerry to take the time to try to help the guy.
Starting point is 00:28:40 Ryan, I just think that's a neat moment. Like generations of people who've done this, 22-year-old, I don't know how old Jerry is, but he's probably what, 65, maybe, 64, something like that. The two of them like talking, I just think that's a really neat thing. I think the example you just gave in his interview yesterday got to see a different side of Jerry Tipton that most people didn't know existed. Like you said, the only knew him is maybe the guy with the sharp pencil that covered UK wasn't afraid to write some harsh things.
Starting point is 00:29:09 But you're right, for him to take time out during his lunch to talk to a young, brilliant mind like Mario, says a lot about his character. I did. I thought that was neat. Brad, 30 seconds. Go ahead. Hey, what's up, boys? I called in a couple weeks ago, didn't drop the name at the time.
Starting point is 00:29:25 What do you guys think about the beret of pickup? I think it's awesome. Exactly. The lunch guy? The guy that had the scoop? He acted like it was. He acted like it was. I thought it's a great pickup.
Starting point is 00:29:37 49% three-point shooter, Drew. I don't know how you can't love it. I had a guy right me who's a Dayton fan said he's the best shooter he's ever seen at Dayton from three. That's all you need. I mean, I know, like, that's what Antonio Reilly. was Antonio got better. We'll see if Braya does that.
Starting point is 00:29:53 But if you just give me Antonio Rees from his junior year, I take it, and I feel like that's what we got. Yeah, Pope needed a shooter, so he went and got the portal and got the best shooter in college basketball last season. I don't know how you couldn't love that pickup, especially with the way he runs that system. And he's got four years of experience at Dayton and coming here for a fifth year. Master P, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:30:14 No, we're not calling Pope Master P. What about Copo for Coach Pope? No. No, Mark Pope's fun. I like Mark Pope, both names. You guys are no fun. Father Pope? I'm not calling him, Daddy.
Starting point is 00:30:30 It's not the governor. Let's go to Miles. What's up, Miles? 30 seconds. Yes. I was just going to say it was good to see you at the, and Antonio Weaves is signing. Yes.
Starting point is 00:30:49 I'll extend you, Miles. Yes, it was great to see you. I know Antonio Reeves appreciated you coming, and so did we. Yes. And also, and also, I'm going to tell you that, that the, I hope that when we play often song next June, that it's going to be at a neutral side. Yeah, I don't think it will be.
Starting point is 00:31:25 I think it's going to be in Lexington. And, Miles, you know what we're going to do? We're going to go beat John Caliperi and beat Arkansas, and you and I are going to be there to celebrate it. How about that? That would be awesome. All right. Well, it's nice to hear from you, Miles.
Starting point is 00:31:43 Thank you for calling. You're well. All right, have a great day. Let's go to Jackson, 30 seconds. Hey, Matt, what happened to a Cal and Rob there towards the end? And that's all I got. I mean, I don't want to exaggerate it. I don't think it was terrible, but I think there was, I think there was frustration. I think as the team struggled those last two games, I think Rob was frustrated, especially in the second game in terms of maybe his usheds and how he's being played. And I think it culminated.
Starting point is 00:32:20 I think Rob sort of drew for a lot of the years, sacrificed a role that he probably thought needed should be more. And as he played well, that thought probably continued. And it boiled over, if you talk to some people, maybe even during the game against Oakland, which probably Drew didn't help. Let's put it like that. I thought the team as a whole, including Rob and really everyone top to bottom, did a great job of being good teammates for the most part with the minutes and everything last year with the situation they had.
Starting point is 00:32:52 But at some point when you're Rob Dillingham and you know what you're capable of and you're about to be a top three draft pick, I can see why that bench you're starting to wonder why you're sitting on it as much as you are. Especially when you're losing. Yeah. So he's sitting there thinking, put me in. You know what I can do. I can understand why there'd be some friction there. I mean, I'm amazed those guys handled it as well as they did, right?
Starting point is 00:33:14 I mean, they did rhyme, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was fresh. It's one thing to not play when you're struggling, but those dudes wouldn't even be struggling, and they wouldn't necessarily always get the minutes. And like Drew said, things were going pretty well when they were winning and playing well in February, but those last two games, the SEC tournament and the game in Oakland, something happened. Something happened. Something wasn't right. It seemed like it almost maybe was at halftime of the Texas A&M game.
Starting point is 00:33:40 They came out that second half and were never the same, never the same after that. Yeah, there, well, you know, I wasn't there, but I definitely think there was, you know, there was something. I'll tell you what else there is. I'm wearing right now, well, not right now, but I wore them in today, Shannon, shady rays. Shady rays, right now I have blue and black. They're premium polarized shades that are wonderful. If I were to scratch or break them, you know what they'll do? They'll replace them.
Starting point is 00:34:10 If I use a promo code KSR, I'll get two pairs for up to 50%. in off. That's awesome. Then they have them in Lexington. They have them in Louisville. They have them online at Shadyrays.com. You know, I use the products I like and I use this one. So go to Shady Rays, check it out. Tell them KSR. You'll never want another pair of sunglasses again. If you go check our Kentucky company at ShadyRays in the summit in Louisville or at Shadyerase.com. We'll take a break and be right back. This is KSR. Welcome back. Final segment, Kentucky Sports Radio. One person writes on the text machine, 7772, 7. 77-4-5-25-4, Matt.
Starting point is 00:34:48 It was coaching malpractice not to play Dillingham more than he did. I could understand why he'd be upset. My coaching malpractice is that, Ryan, they didn't play, there should have never been one minute in any game that two of the three of Reed, Rob, and Reeves were not in. Yep. Never. Never should have been a game where two of those three weren't in.
Starting point is 00:35:12 You can't play them all all the time. sometimes, especially Rob, would have off days, but they would go long stretches of time with only having one of those guys in. I would have never had a minute absent foul trouble where I didn't have two of those three dudes in, and I'll never understand why Cal didn't do that. When you've got opposing coaches that were considered one of the best in the country saying after the game, well, we helped Cal Findies lineup when they ran Alabama off the court. And then they didn't play that lineup in the tournament. didn't play that lineup hardly ever again. Hardly ever. They played it in the Oakland game. I think
Starting point is 00:35:50 I counted Drew for like two possessions in the Oakland game in the first half. In the second half at the very end, they put it in and we made a run right at the very end. I could not believe how little he would play that lineup. And that lineup was so good against Alabama because Justin Edwards played a little bit of the four. This was two years of it for me. I spent a year screaming put Chris Livingston at the four. He didn't do it one time, but he would go on the radio and say he's thinking about it. And then we had a whole year of not playing Justin Edwards at the four. Especially with Edwards when you had three dynamic guards you could put with them.
Starting point is 00:36:25 He just cannot slide those guys over and play four, play a smaller line. The fact that he did not insist on playing two of those three guys at the same time is insane to me. We were almost impossible to guard when you had two of them in. And when you had three of them in and we were shooting well, You got the Alabama game, right? When they were shooting, when I didn't always shoot well every game. But to me, that was coaching.
Starting point is 00:36:51 Every time there'd only be one. And by the way, Shannon, the starting lineup only had one of them in. I don't understand why they didn't stick to that lineup that they had that worked. I mean, that we were talking about, right? The basketball bidding lineup. I will always remember that going into the last six games, which I think it was before the Alabama game, though, the stats came out of 30.
Starting point is 00:37:13 34 lineups of Kentucky had played at least 50 possessions together. And our starting lineup was the 33rd of the 34 in success. That's not, that's inexcusable. That's why I wondered if they had computers. Seriously, though. Seriously, how could you make your starting lineup, your next to worst lineup? How? It just will never make sense to.
Starting point is 00:37:40 And every game, you come out down 8 to 1, 9 to nothing. Every game. One person writes, Matt, I know you saw on social media a picture of you at Skyline yesterday. It looked like it was kids eat free night. Why did you go? I didn't know, Shannon. You know, when you want a three way, you got to get what you want it. All of a sudden, I looked up and there were just kids screaming everywhere. And I was like, what is going on? And then when I got home and saw the picture and I saw it was kids eat free night, I realized Shannon, no offense to Skyline, I'll never go back. there on the Wednesday again. That'll be the night that I skipped. Let me hit the drive-thru.
Starting point is 00:38:17 You know, you can take it home with you. It's not good home. You live right up the road from there. Yeah, but they don't give it to you. I get the three and the four-way. Yeah. And when they give it to you home, you have to put it together yourself.
Starting point is 00:38:29 You don't like to put the cheese on top? It's better when they put, listen. All they do is put cheese on top. But the cheese when the meat is really hot, the cheese then melts on it. Throw in the microwave for a few. Okay, I don't want to hear. I didn't go, I didn't go there to work. Shannon, I didn't go there to work. I went there to eat. Yeah. You got kids. Morgan, 30 seconds. Go. Five seconds based on silence.
Starting point is 00:38:59 Hey, dad. All right. Let's go back to basketball today. Mark Pope has recruited and has a 6-11 man with a 7-3 wingspan. I never heard you talk about that at all. I talked about it when he committed. Name a Mark. You talking about Amari Williams? He has two bigs. Amari Williams and Brandon Garrison. There were some rumors yesterday that Mari Williams might be shopping himself around. I don't know if that was true or not, but I do not believe he's leaving. I think maybe there was a little bit of concern when they got Garrison.
Starting point is 00:39:41 They weren't sure, but I think Pope fixed that. And as far as I've heard, I think everything is fine. And he will be good. And we did talk about him when he committed. which was like a week ago. Karen, go ahead, Karen. Hi, Matt. I was just wondering, how do you think your relationship between Mark Pope and Mark Stoops and the new women's basketball coach?
Starting point is 00:40:05 How will that? I don't see any reason why it won't be really good, Karen. I mean, I know Mark Pope and Vince have spent time together, and I know that Vince really liked him. I don't know how, I mean, I know there's a picture of Pope with Stoops. and I think but the Stoops cow issue was two sort of pretty big egos hitting each other. I don't think Karen Pope will have that same problem with Stobs. Do you think that's?
Starting point is 00:40:36 Okay, come on. I gave her 40 seconds. She's still there. Go ahead and ask your question. I'm sorry, Karen, but Shannon's doing his job. He's mean. Karen? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Go ahead. Ask your question. do you think that that'll help with recruiting? Yes, I think so. I appreciate the call. You know, more for the football in some ways, Ryan, than the basketball, because I think football players like to come in
Starting point is 00:41:06 and look at the basketball stuff, but them getting along is huge. You know, I mean, it got to the point at the end where, like, well, I mean, I don't want to cause it controversy, but there were problems with football and basketball that genuinely hurt both of them at the end, Ryan, and I think that that won't happen now. I can absolutely see Mark Pope going to UK football games next year.
Starting point is 00:41:30 I can see Mark Stoops going to basketball games next year. I think that relationship is going to be a great one that they'll both be able to feed off each other and use each other when it comes to recruits. They did not speak. Poops or poops. Poops. Is that what we're calling him? Together they're poops. Together they're poops.
Starting point is 00:41:50 Yeah, two marks. The two Mark poops. Why are we close? I don't know. Stoops and Pope, I don't believe they spoke, Drew, at all, after the basketball football school thing. Stobs and cow. Stoops and cow. I don't think they ever spoke again, maybe beyond just like, hello.
Starting point is 00:42:18 I think that's about right. And I'll include, I think a lot of just UK athletics was ready for a reset over there. too. I mean, not just coaches, just people within the administration cross, I think people are very excited for Mark Poop to step into that seat. We need the show to end. We need the show to end. Mark, my goodness.
Starting point is 00:42:41 This is why they don't put us on the derby broadcast right here. This is why. Big R, 30 seconds, go. I love the buzzer show on that. Thank you. We'll see about that. Okay, yeah. To go back to my question. So I used to be one of these guys, and I want to emphasize the word used to be,
Starting point is 00:43:01 think you cut people off too early. But last summer showed me how much I do appreciate the way you do things. So can you please teach Tom Hart and all these other people that's going to come on this summer to appreciate the call, please. Yeah, Ryan, you're going to have to do that some this summer. I know you don't like to do it, but you do let people go. You're going to have to kind of, you can let people go a little longer than me, but you can't let them go as long as you like to. Well, the buzzer never lies.
Starting point is 00:43:28 We'll just put the buzzer in a back to the old summer. No, you can't do a buzzer every day. Why not? Because you're not going to be here. I understand, but you don't. You don't wear out the gimmick. Exactly. Everything in moderation, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:43:38 You don't throw it down people's throat. Give them a little bit of a drop. And then that's, actually, never mind. Let's go to cornbread hemp.com. promo code KSR. Full Spectrum Flower Only Hemp CBD. It's cornbread hemp. you can help you rest, relax the gummies.
Starting point is 00:43:57 There's drops. It's whatever you want. They have a ton of products. They continue to expand. I'm so proud of those guys. Cornbreadthemp.com. promo code KSR. Check it out if you have not.
