Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. It is gorgeous. and it is, you still call this spring? I guess so. I guess it's still spring. It's not hot yet.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Summer doesn't start until June 21st or something? Yeah, I consider June, though, spring. But you can give a shot on the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line. I haven't heard from you in a while. 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-745254 in this edition. Sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, you call T. T.J. will make them pay.
Starting point is 00:02:59 Two weeks of shows until it's all. In your laps, Ryan. Are you excited? Excited? No. But I mean, like, you guys get it now. Two months of, you don't have to worry about me or anything like that. But the responsibility falls on our shoulders. We can kind of just rely on you. We know today coming in, you're going to have a lot of good topics for us to discuss.
Starting point is 00:03:24 I know. We can just show up, put the headphones on, and talk. But that's going to be a good lesson for him, Shannon. Right. That's right. Now you guys get to see. You guys have to prep, and it's going to be very exciting. Like, I'm excited to watch you all flourish as human beings.
Starting point is 00:03:40 Because we know it's coming. Drew and Shannon, I know it's coming. We're going to sit down here, and Tom Hart's going to flip on the microphone. All right, guys, what are we going to talk about today? But that's what you have to do. Shannon does that every day. Right, Shannon, don't you do that for the pre-show now? Yeah, for the pre-show.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Now, Ryan, you get to do it. Drew does it for the website. Really, it's more on you. Okay. I feel like you're the one that's going to have to change their daily routine. So, like, it's really more on you. Yeah, it's true, because I can just take a shower, get in a card, put the headphones on. I mean, that's not what you're supposed to do, Drew.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Like, you're actually supposed to even in a secondary role prepare, and now he will be in the primary role. I'm not going to say I'm perfect preparing, but I've already had two hours of KSR today. I've written a post. You've got to come in with the knowledge of what's going on in UK land. I do a solid hour, I would say, every day, sometimes more. of prep. Just reading websites and
Starting point is 00:04:30 you know, that's what you got to do. And now you will, and the thing is, when you don't do it, the audience will know because you'll go to the phones for 90 calls and then you'll let people ramble and they'll go,
Starting point is 00:04:42 okay, well, Ryan did not step up today. So, so anyway, I got back to my house and got in bed at 2.40 in the morning. Oh, out. So it's,
Starting point is 00:04:53 wow. Yesterday. Well, first of all, let me do the positive. of the weekend. Okay. Just an awesome weekend with my mom. Yes. I mean, getting to go to Dallas, spent basically four days with my parents,
Starting point is 00:05:09 and my mom's a really good friend, who's also my friend, some cousins of mine, and watching my mom graduate was one of the, it was one of the coolest things that I've ever done. I mean, watching how happy she was, we got there, here's going to be a shock. She graduated with highest honor. I'm not surprised. They have honors, high honors, and highest honors.
Starting point is 00:05:32 And she was in the highest honors. I counted there were only like, there were probably 350, 400 people that graduated. There might have been 20 that had three stars, highest honors. And she was one of them. And so that was really, really neat. We know how happy you are because you know how excited she was to do this. I mean, it was just like for those, well, you've seen your kids graduate from, things. Yeah. She's not my kid. She's my mom. But like I got to experience that whole thing where they
Starting point is 00:06:01 walk, you know, they walk, they march in and then you look for them and you go, there she is and everybody points as if you didn't see her just a few hours before, right? And then they get up there and they call the name and you take a picture. Yeah. Right? Yep. Um. Did you give a whoot-whoop? Well, we were admonished not to. Really? Which I want to talk about that for a minute. But, but the whole time was great. You could tell how happy she was. And, um, you know, met all of her professors. Like, I sort of felt like the parent going, so how is my mother doing in school? Was she a pleasant student, Drew?
Starting point is 00:06:36 Did she pay attention? Did she pay attention? And they all, you know, they all talked about how wonderful she was. So it's probably the closest I ever get to be, to being a parent of someone who certainly graduates from seminary, Shannon, but maybe just in general if I don't end up having a kid. I know you're very proud of her and we're all very happy for her. And I'm glad that you got to experience that. great. Now, I mean, we also, you know, there was a lot of like going to things were all over Dallas,
Starting point is 00:07:04 which was taking three 70-year-old plus people in an Uber everywhere throughout Dallas. A lot of folding me into the back. So think about it. Most, most, you know, SUVs, they have a front seat, two back seats, and then the seat where you put the luggage. I was the one getting into that seat every time. So by the end of it, I was a pretzel pretty much the entire, time. So that was great. The negative is, I'm not sure America's had a worse day at an airport than the Dallas airport had yesterday. I mean, we got there at one o'clock. My parents still haven't. They're still in Dallas. They still haven't gotten home. My flight took off at like 1045. We were on the same flight. We ended up on different flights. It was a circus. You know, they had bad weather there.
Starting point is 00:07:54 and so it was just, you know, delay, move to this gate, moved to this gate. I think American Airlines yesterday had six people in the whole building working. Like, you know, now you can't find a person. Yeah. Right? You can't, like, you know, Ryan, it wasn't that long ago. There'd be gate agents or people. There's no one anywhere.
Starting point is 00:08:13 And they're just like, it's like Lord of the Flies. And if you don't have, if you don't know how to use the app, Ryan, you're completely on your own. And it's unbelievable. One of the worst experiences in life is, flight troubles when you're stuck in an airport because you're just stuck there you're at their mercy you're stuck there's nothing you can do and and like complaining doesn't help because it's not like these people control anything right and by the end of a day like that they're ready to shoot everyone you could just see it in their face they're like I don't get paid enough to deal with all of because
Starting point is 00:08:45 no one in an airport drew is happy no you know when there's delays when there's delays I've said a long time. I think the worst job on planet Earth would be the people that have to deal with people who've lost their baggage. Oh, yeah. Because you didn't lose it. You're not the one that's going to find it. You just have a computer and you have to take the complaints. There was a man who was in a cowboy hat. And he was just yelling at everyone going, y'all are incompetent. Air one of you. And the guy was like, the pilot is in Denver. What do you want me to do? And he just, ah! And I thought, man, you know, So I was frustrated as I could be, but you can't get frustrated at those. Like, there's nothing anybody can do about it, and you're just stuck.
Starting point is 00:09:27 And, you know, and so then we get on different flights, mine goes, theirs does it. So I feel bad about that. You know, they're still there. And they can't get on a flight until tomorrow. Oh, no. That's insane. I hope the travel problems are having doesn't take away from the fun of the weekend. But it does seem like a heck of a struggle of getting home for them.
Starting point is 00:09:50 I would just say this. The Dallas airport, there's a circle of Dante's hell for the Dallas airport. I mean, they say they're remodeling it. I'd say just start over. Just everyone collectively agreed for three years. None of us are going to Dallas. Let them rebuild that thing, Ryan, and then try it. I know you're feeling some guilt because you're –
Starting point is 00:10:11 I feel bad. Yeah. Like, you know. Maybe now they can go to where Kennedy was assassinated. can get to go. Yeah, maybe they can do that today. So now they can go. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:22 They can go to the grassy knoll. It closed. You wouldn't think they would close a piece of grass, but they do close the piece of grass. And now, uh, maybe they'll go. Yes. Like Chick-fil-A was it just closed yesterday and you all had bad timing or closed it like four o'clock on Saturday. Oh, we, we weren't able to get there.
Starting point is 00:10:41 But anyway, thank you to the many of you who when I posted stuff wrote nice things. I showed it to my mom. She's set and scrolled on my Facebook. and read all of it. Even though my mom loves reading everything on Facebook, she refuses to get Facebook. So she got to read all those comments people put on my thing. We were taking aback. Because Friday during our show here, you posted the picture of her and her capping down. We thought, oh, the graduation was Friday. Like, you know how they have a religious ceremony? I think in some schools it's called a Baca laureate.
Starting point is 00:11:10 There it's called like church. And, uh... But she had to wear her caping gown to that event also. And you know, classic Vince Merrow. My mom says, I want you to send a picture of, this to Vince Merrill. I send a picture and Vince goes, I know that guy. And it's that, it was Tony Evans and their buddies. Vince knows everybody. Amazing. He really does. I thought you're going to say Vince was there. No, I mean, well, he may be set in the back. So anyway, a lot of fun. And again, thank you to everybody. And thank you all for holding down the fort while I was gone. Congratulations to Karen. All right. There's a lot to, a lot of get to. First of all, this morning,
Starting point is 00:11:46 great Osabor picked Washington, which again, if he wasn't going to come here, I'm good with that because the other choice is Louisville. So we'll take it. The report is that he got offered $2 million, which if true, and again, every single report about money, I'm skeptical. But if it were true, Drew, would make him the highest paid NIL player ever. Do you buy that? I don't know. There was rumors that there was a guy at Washington wanting to overpay. So I know that he was going to get a lot of money going there, but $2 million. To be at Washington. Yeah, I mean, he was the Mountain West player of the year, but the guy's coming from Utah
Starting point is 00:12:28 State and he's getting $2 million. Good for him, if that's true. And I see why he wanted to wait around. I think we all thought there was going to be a Kentucky commitment until they started shopping a little more. See, that's the story behind the stories. For people who wonder how it played out, they, to take up, for scroop here.
Starting point is 00:12:47 They said they were going to come, what, three weeks ago? Yeah. Right after it was hired. And UK sort of was moving thinking, okay, this is going to happen. And then all of a sudden they get a, and well, we're going to take four visits. And rumors start to come. They're finishing with Washington. And Washington has said, whatever you get an offer from from somebody else, we're going to beat it.
Starting point is 00:13:10 And at that point, I think Kentucky still felt like, well, we got to try. And then they got the garrison commitment. And they said, you know what? If we're going to get outbid anyway, let's just take this kid. I think they did. They're in that situation. We didn't want to lose both these guys. And if Osabar is like shopping himself around.
Starting point is 00:13:28 And remember, was it Norlander? One of those guys tweeted out the asking price was 1.5. And if somebody at Washington was going and willing to overpay whatever he got, I'm sure that was their whole plan. It's like I keep saying. This was the year. Yep. I think this was the year to be in the portal. because I just feel like the numbers will alter.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Because what's going to happen is whether it's John L. Davis or Osbour or somebody, like a kid's not going to have a great year after they pay all that, and there's going to be people going, I ain't doing that again. But this was the year that you could sort of speculate. Because the thing is, all right, if they makes Washington a top 15 team, then maybe it was worth it. Now, they still won't make the money back, but I don't know, maybe they say, you know, maybe they say, you know,
Starting point is 00:14:13 maybe they say it was worth it. Who knows? That's what I wonder how sustainable all this is. Even the rules don't change. Rich people are eventually going to get tired of paying a couple million a year. You're paying for something. You're not going to make the money back. You can only sit so close to the court.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Yeah. Eventually you're going to think, I could be doing something else with this. Yeah. So now Kentucky is waiting on the commitment, which is supposed to come in the next two days of either. Chas Lanier will hopefully decide to not be in. the draft and it would be Kentucky or Tennessee. You got people out there saying it's definitely Kentucky and you have people out there saying
Starting point is 00:14:50 it's definitely Tennessee and I kind of think, Ryan, that means nobody really knows for sure. Pope went up to watch him play this weekend in Chicago. So, I mean, they're putting the full court press on him trying to get a commitment from him. And then you have Jackson Robinson who I still think Kentucky's the favorite for, but I don't think people realize there are a couple other schools. I still think he'll come here. but, you know, I don't think that's certain. So one of these things has got to pan out, Drew.
Starting point is 00:15:17 I mean, like we've talked about it. I think they need one more guy to assure that they're really good, and we'll see which one it is. If you had to guess, which one do you think it's going to be? I'll guess Robinson. I've just had that in my mind since Pope got the job, if that be a guy who'd follow him. Although, you know, he could be one with the draft as poor as it is this year.
Starting point is 00:15:38 he might even decide to stay in if he gets a promise. I don't think he has one now. Still second round grade. But I'll still lean him. What about you? And they better get one of the Lanier-Robinson-Wougapler group. They got to get one. One of the three.
Starting point is 00:15:52 They got to get one. And be awesome if they got two, but they got to get one. And Wuga-Popler had a big day yesterday at the other. What do you think? I'm kind of like Drew. I always felt like that, you know, Robinson, I think, has been with Pope. I think he probably got advice from Pope. Hey, man, just go test the waters.
Starting point is 00:16:08 You know, you are you are you right, he was going to do it. But which one do you think comes here if they don't go to the draft? I'm going to go Robinson. All right. Yeah, I'm going to say Robinson. But again, it might be a situation like with, uh, with Ossebor where if Lanier says I want to come, you can't wait. You can't wait. Because you can't end up with neither of them.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Yep. Right. So, so we'll see. 859-280, 2287. My mom texted said it was called chapel. Chapel, the thing on, the event on Friday. The event on Friday. But she looked cute in her coat and her coat.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Her cap and gown. Awesome. Yeah. Well, of course she did. Everywhere we went, by the way, we would be sitting right next to each other and people would say, you all are mother's son.
Starting point is 00:16:47 No doubt. Oh, there's no doubt. Because especially with her hair in the cap, we really do look a lot of like. We'll take a break. 859-28027. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
Starting point is 00:17:00 This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode we're cutting through the noise.

Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them.
Starting point is 00:17:39 Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Starting point is 00:17:55 Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you know. to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue

Starting point is 00:18:27 The story I've told myself about love or relationships can then shape my behavior. That can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole, this podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio, 859-2802287. you know, the guy that was cussing yesterday,
Starting point is 00:19:39 he got so bad at the American Airlines people that other people were yelling at him. Think about that. All those people were delayed, and they were like, you are being such a jerk that you need to stop. Yeah, you're all in the same boat. You're all stuck there.
Starting point is 00:19:54 Yes, it was awful. A59-2802287. Shannon, did you go to the John Legend event, the UK football event? I didn't make it. I think Drew did, though. What do you mean you didn't make it? We got you tickets.
Starting point is 00:20:09 You just decided you were too cool to come? No. Some things happened that were unavoidable, and I couldn't make it. Okay, so he couldn't do it. Well, there you go. Did you get to go? No, I went to Bergotsi. I went by where John Legend was, but he and Bergotsi were at the same time, and we chose comedy.
Starting point is 00:20:24 But some friends that went said it was really good. I saw how it looked. It looked like there was a lot of people? Yeah, it looked like a good time. I didn't hear the actual music, but the people that were there, I heard good things. You have a picture of stoop's? and Pope with their arms around each other. Good sign, right?
Starting point is 00:20:38 Like, that's not something we saw for the last three years. So that's good. The two marks being happy. Chilling out, you know, going to be able to pull for each other, support each other, help each other. So it's going to be a great relationship. And it has to be good for UK football. I don't know what they ended up raising with that, but it had to be a lot.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Considering what it cost and to make it worthwhile for John Legend, that had to be, I would think, Ryan, a massive UK. football day. Yeah, you know, use your your resources, right? His nephew's playing on the team, so you kind of get him to come in and help out the team. But he also sang. I mean, you get John Legend singing for your football team. How many teams are getting something like that, right? Like, I mean, how many teams, it's a great idea for a fundraiser. You know, we've talked a lot about NIL with UK basketball. But I think the UK basketball re-injecting of NIL money has also helped UK football, because some of the UK basketball, because some of the UK basketball, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:34 of the people that have gotten involved, the football team goes, hey, yeah, how about us too? We're over here. And some people, I think, have done it. I mean, I think the, I think the Mark Pope energy. We'll see what happens on the court, but the energy has actually helped the NIL for both sports. Yep. And with football having that John Legend concert, I mean, you can't expect to do that all the time. But we were just saying these booster are so much money, they eventually have to get something in return. If they're just going to keep funding all your players in unique events, like a private concert or one good way to keep that money coming in. Yeah, I wish, how did the four of us?
Starting point is 00:22:10 Why didn't you go? My niece got married in Alabama this weekend, so I was in Alabama all weekend. You went to the nieces wedding. Yeah, my favorite niece. Oh, wait a minute. How many nieces do you have? One. I was like, what if the others were.
Starting point is 00:22:25 But see, you could see totally, Shannon, that he would have more than one niece and he would still pick one. Oh, yeah. I mean, that would be a total ride of lemon moves. doing that so I was that made me worried because you know they're all Auburn people they all went to Auburn sole they're making plans to cheerful but boy they plan on coming up and staying at my house in October when Auburn plays up here this fall it wasn't the Dallas airport but you all missed mayhem in Lexington with because Burgatsy and John Legend in the same building at the same time yeah I don't so it was
Starting point is 00:22:52 nuts downtown let me just say something to the leaders of Lexington and some of this is unavoidable but this city is now too big there are too many people in this city. And I don't, like, we have to do something. There's too many people and not enough roads. There's like a hundred thousand people have moved to this town in the last three months. I think that's science. Okay. And this city can't, it can't handle it. And the week, when there is any event now at Rupp Arena, the whole city becomes undrivable. It does. And what are we going to do about that? This is, I mean, for those of you that live in Louisville, there's traffic in Louisville. But it's the same traffic, Shannon, right? It's traffic out, Bardstown Road.
Starting point is 00:23:37 It's traffic out there next to the Gene Snyder on 65. Yeah, so there's, but like it's predictable. This city, I've never seen a place where at any moment you just can't move and there's nowhere to go. There's no escape route, right? What are we going to do? Remember a Mr. Mayor? What are we going to do? I was late a month ago because they were putting up the Keenland flags downtown and it stopped the city.
Starting point is 00:24:02 graduation here. Honestly, it was like when you see those videos of like streets in Africa and Egypt where they don't have lanes and stuff and there's just people and boats and everything in the middle of the car, that's what it's like downtown? What are we going to do? Well, you know, my plan's going to eliminate the sidewalks. We don't need sidewalks. That's the worst plan.
Starting point is 00:24:24 We have that on Winchester Road. It's already frog around here. This woman right here just gave a crazy look when you said that. Like, that's the worst plan. You understand one of the ways to do it would be to get people not to drive. You can't walk all the way from Fayette Mall to downtown. You need room to expand. Nobody walks up and down those streets.
Starting point is 00:24:43 Take those sidewalks out. Expand it out. And let's make some more roads. Widen the roads. I think a tram around New Circle. A tram around New Circle. Well, I mean, it would be nice to have. But it is this city, when there is anything,
Starting point is 00:25:01 going on, especially if it's downtown. Locks it up. Forget it. Forget it. I mean, it's, it's absolutely, totally locks it up. And when it happens on a Friday night, it's even worse. Oh, it is. Because you get the people trying to go home and all that stuff. Well, I just, just think how unique that is. I mean, those are two superstars right now.
Starting point is 00:25:20 There's not really anyone bigger in comedy than Bergazzi and John Ledge has been doing it forever. And they were in the same building. How often does an arena double book two people like that? So, I mean, it was, it was chaos. Fun, but chaos. Who's up first, Shannon? Aaron.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Aaron, go ahead, Aaron. Hey, Matt. I think it's interesting. I mean, I know it doesn't mean anything, but when you look at the college basketball preseason rankings, they have Arkansas ranked who doesn't have a full roster, and we're not even right. Yeah, but that's, I struggle with the preseason ratings,
Starting point is 00:25:56 and I appreciate the call because there's, I can't tell, I have no, idea how you you preseason rate college basketball right now especially teams like kentucky and arkansas you don't even have their full roster i mean you don't none of these dudes have ever played together i don't know how in the world like if you were to tell me where should kentucky be ranked in the preseason i have no idea no idea you could convince me to put them 10th you could convince me they're unranked and i have no idea do you no they're these they're worthless because you have no idea what the roster is going to look like by the time the
Starting point is 00:26:33 season gets ready to start. But also, even if I know the roster, I don't know how these guys are going to work together. I mean, they're all from, none of them have ever played together, right? Yeah, we probably wouldn't even get the starting lineup right if we're trying to guess. I don't think we're a good idea, but it's not. So let me ask you, 772, 7754. What do you think Kentucky's preseason rating should be? We'll give ours when we come back. But it is really hard. You know, John Rothstein has Kentucky 44th, and people are, well, I don't think they're 44th, but trying to figure out where they are is not easy. Also, because let's be honest, none of us know these other teams.
Starting point is 00:27:11 Yeah. What do you think about the brackatology that's out right now? I mean, Joe Lannardi, I get he has to get money, but like, brackitology. Call T.J., he'll make them pay. Now more of Kentucky
Starting point is 00:29:55 Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio's. Text machine is 772-774-55-4. People write in. Let me know where you think we're going to be in the rankings. Let's go quickly, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Where do you think we are? Season starts, where do you think we should be pre-season rate? I think we'll be close to the top 25. So I'll say somewhere between 20 and 25. Drew. I will say number 22 for no other reason. Then that's just the first number that popped to my head. All right.
Starting point is 00:30:23 Shannon? 25. Yeah, I mean, that seems to be the consensus. I'm going to say, if we get Jackson Robinson, I would put us like 17 or 18. I think we're going to, if we don't get him, I think, to be quite frank with you, we probably won't be ranked. I think it's unbelievable to me the way people assume one thing about Arkansas but won't assume it about us.
Starting point is 00:30:47 I mean, we have guys who've all been good in college. Now, do we have a guy that's been a star? Not yet, but we have guys who've all been solid. You know, if you're looking at Arkansas right now, John L. Davis, star. Freshmen who are all ranked 20th or lower, that's not been a recipe for success over the years for Cal. And then guys who didn't plot. I mean, you know, Z might end up great. But if you look at those stats, Z stats are worse than everybody we have, right?
Starting point is 00:31:23 Yeah. A do, I like a lot. Same issue, though. I mean, like, you can't look at a do and say, well, that guy's going to be a star. Now, if they get DJ Wagner, I actually think DJ Wagner is going to have a huge year. But if you start a back court with DJ Wagner, John L. Davis, and Boogie Flan, I don't know that that's a group that can shoot. Now, they could still end up really good. But so could we.
Starting point is 00:31:49 But I don't think people are going to give us the benefit of the doubt. We're actually going to have to go, Ryan, and actually go win games, which I'm okay with, but I think that's what's going to have to happen. Yeah, and we've got guys that are kind of already proved themselves. And, you know, you put these teams together with these fifth-year seniors, these older guys. Most of the time it does work. But last year at Arkansas with Musselman, he was supposed to have a great team, and it just didn't work. They had all the court issues, but then again, there were other teams that did that, and it worked.
Starting point is 00:32:16 And it worked. So you don't know. You just, you really don't know. here's what I keep telling myself. Leave all the other teams aside. Go look at that BYU roster last year. That team was top 25 all year.
Starting point is 00:32:31 That team was a six seed in the tournament and while they lost, should have been maybe a five seed. Drew, our roster is going to be better than that roster, right? Yeah, and that was their first year in the Big 12, one of the hardest conferences in basketball.
Starting point is 00:32:47 Yes. And if I'm not mistaken, they were picked dead last in the preseason that conference. End up having a really good year making the tournament, beating Kansas at Kansas. I think they beat Baylor. So if Pope can do all that with that roster, people look at and don't recognize a lot of the names
Starting point is 00:33:00 and doing that at BYU, I'm confident they'll take another step forward in Lexington. I'm very confident. I really am. I don't know. I mean, they're not, I don't think we're going to contend for a title, but I don't see any reason they can't be good,
Starting point is 00:33:15 and they can't be NCAA tournament good, and they can't be second weekend NCAA tournament. good. I don't see any reason. But I do think we need one more player. Yeah. And we got to get it. Let me ask you. The floor is a lot higher. Like I don't see these old guys all his experience. Maybe I'm wrong, but like I don't see like a Wilmington coming into Rup and you just have a horrible game because it's a bunch of freshmen still learning stuff. I think they might not be as good in the end, but I think the floor will be a lot higher where they're not. And with the way this team will play defense because they've got three guys who were their conference players of the year in defense.
Starting point is 00:33:51 we're going to be in every game, right? And we have an offensive coach who went and got a bunch of defensive players. So I feel confident about it. Let me ask you, did you get to see the whole Northern Lights thing that happened here? See, I was in Alabama, so I didn't see it. I saw all the pictures of all the people here in Kentucky that got to it. I didn't get to enjoy it. Did you see it?
Starting point is 00:34:13 I have strong thoughts about this. I did not see it. I don't, did anyone, like, I kept seeing pictures on Instagram and Facebook, But then when I talked to people, they were like, I didn't see it. Then Hubby told me that you couldn't see it unless you looked at it through your phone, which doesn't make any sense to me. Help me understand scientifically. Why?
Starting point is 00:34:36 If I can't look at it with my eyes, I can see it through my phone. How does that work? It's part of the reason I'm upset. First, their marketing department needs to be fired because I didn't hear a peep of this until it already happened. It was not what we're supposed to know? Was I supposed to look up? Like the eclipse, they started six months sending out flyers and knocking on doors. People booking it from all over the world.
Starting point is 00:35:00 So can you predict it? Can you predict the northern lights? I thought there was some sort of alert they put out Friday. I mean, in Norway they predicted. But why were we able to see it here? I don't know. Do you know? No.
Starting point is 00:35:12 Nothing about the storms have pushed it down or something. Solar storm or something pushing it down the northern lights. I don't know. Okay. What does a solar storm? mean? There's a storm in outer space. Like what kind of storm? Like it doesn't rain in outer space, does it? I don't know. You can't have thunder and lightning in outer. So what is a solar storm? This is all my point. Why was all of this put in front of us so we knew to look up? And then after the fact, why am I learning? We're all just looking at a filter that we used on our phone. So that, so yeah, Humbie was like, if you looked at it through your phone, you could see it. He goes because the phone can process it faster than your eyes. but isn't it still my eyes looking at the phone?
Starting point is 00:35:54 I guess because it's making a... You're really giving me a headache now. No, but there you go. Okay, so like you look outside. Let's say that there... Let's just say you're looking at the sky right there. And you can't see northern line. Can't see it.
Starting point is 00:36:06 But they say if you look through your phone, you'll be able to see it. What I don't understand is when I hold the phone up and I look through the phone, it's still those same eyes. So if I couldn't process it without the phone, why can I process it with the phone? we need to ask somebody that knows a lot more about it. Because it's still going through the same eyes that allegedly can't handle it. Usually you have the opposite problem. Like if you ever looked up and seen like a huge moon and you try to take a picture and it looks terrible on your phone, usually you have the opposite problem of what you're describing.
Starting point is 00:36:38 So did people see it or did they just want to be cool? I think everyone on Facebook is a liar. It's a filter. It's like when I'm looking at Grandma and she looks like Grandma, but then you use a filter and she's got a dog face or tongue sticking out on the phone. You used an app. That's exactly what happened. So you don't think anybody saw.
Starting point is 00:36:54 I think everyone once likes and they turned up the saturation. I don't know. What's the word? Color balance. Yeah. They messed with it so it looks cool to their friends knowing they went outside. Do you know anybody that's like the pictures I saw would be like purple? Yes.
Starting point is 00:37:10 And it was like, do you know anybody that saw that? Just some friends that sent me pictures of it. But okay, that's different. Sending you pictures. crutch, did you see it? The northern lights. On a photo or a person? But did you see it on a photo or did you see it with your eyes?
Starting point is 00:37:25 See everybody saw it with a photo. Everyone's making my point. I'm going to make the argument. Nobody saw it at all. It's AI. It's because everybody sees a photo, but I don't know one person who said they went outside, opened their eyes and saw it. Salt just through their eyes.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Nothing on a phone. Because Hubby was like you had to look at it through a camera. But I still, I don't understand. it's still my eyes looking at that camera. Yeah. So if my eyes can't process it in real life, why can my eyes process it through a camera? Because it's filtered. Camera captures the image.
Starting point is 00:37:59 No, but, okay, that's a still photo. Yeah. I'm talking about as it's happening. Do you know what I'm saying? Yeah, uh-huh. We saw the northern lights on our Alaskan cruise, right? It wasn't like that. Not and that wasn't purple, but it was, you know, we saw the lights.
Starting point is 00:38:15 I just, and I'm kind of with you, Drew. Why did they just decide now? I feel like maybe it was out there and I missed it, but I saw all these pictures and I had not heard one peep about like, hey, at whatever time, go outside and look up, this is going to happen. And I also, by the way, if people did see it, I know you didn't see it in Lexington and Louisville because there's too many lots. Like if you're out in a cornfield and there's nothing that might be different.
Starting point is 00:38:41 But when you, like, Shannon, when you look up at the sky on a normal day, in Louisville, it's hard to see the moon, like stars and stuff because of all the lights. Right. Yeah, I didn't see it. Anywhere where there's artificial light, you're not going to see it. So if you're out in the country somewhere, you may be able to see it. So you just think everybody's lying.
Starting point is 00:38:55 Yeah, you know how Elon's app? If someone's lying, it now says, like, for context, this is actually the truth. I think everyone's picture should say, for context, they use a filter and they're a liar. They didn't really see this. Who's next, Shannon? Let's go to doing good. Doing good. How are you?
Starting point is 00:39:10 I'm doing great, guys. How about yourselves? Good. What's up? I just wanted to ask real quick, when you abandoned your mom down in Dallas, would you like in the situation more to like when George was running out of the apartment that was on fire, knocking the ladies and children to the side, or more along the lines of Pompeii when it got consumed by Mount Vesuvius?
Starting point is 00:39:35 I didn't. So I didn't know what to do, all right? I appreciate the call. when it was clear we were on different flights, you know, my assumption is their flight, what was happening is the later flights were going off, and it was all the ones that were during like four to seven o'clock that were getting canceled.
Starting point is 00:39:54 And so my assumption is the later flights were going to go off. It was those in that period that were gone. But then when we ended up in different places, I felt bad. So I was like, I said to my parents, I'll just stay here. And then they're like, but you won't even have a flight at that point. which is true but I did feel bad because I you know
Starting point is 00:40:15 and then of course when I when we were about to take off and then I saw theirs was canceled so I spent the entire trip on Wi-Fi trying to help them find other flights and you know people it was it was war it was
Starting point is 00:40:31 again Lord of the flies there were no flights I mean we were talking about I was thinking all right I'll get Mario he and I'll go to Dayton pick them up on a frontier flight but I can't put somebody on a frontier flight. But the only thing, the whole trip, I was working to try to find them something, and honestly, there was nothing.
Starting point is 00:40:50 Because it's chaos, and the Dallas airport should be closed. In your defense, I don't know what happened there. Maybe you just took off running, left him. I don't know. But one of the first things you said today when you walked in was that you felt bad being home because they were still there. You did say that not on the show when you walked into the bar this morning. I did.
Starting point is 00:41:06 I don't know how quickly you left them. How could you not? We'd been sitting there all. all day. You know, it was clear, especially my dad, was really tight. You know, that's a whole other thing. They had so few people on staff, you know, he needs help getting through the airport. And they gave it to us until they were going to leave.
Starting point is 00:41:22 And then there wasn't anybody there. Like I said, hopefully they can enjoy something today in Dallas to kind of ease all this anxiety that had to go through the last couple of days. And I wrote, you know, I always tell you when you don't, when you can't get customer service, is my one piece of advice to people. Go to the apps. Go to Twitter. because they'll respond.
Starting point is 00:41:41 They do respond, but then sometimes they just look at you and go, sorry. Enjoy Chili's too. I mean, that's what they said. I was like, is there not something you can do? And they're like, they can get on the flight on Tuesday. The more you say, the more I just hear that we had another 20 years to driving on KSR road trips. Oh, listen. If I had been in Kentucky in time, I would have just driven down there.
Starting point is 00:42:08 but oh what are you going to do hey it's that great time of year nice weather making travel plans baseball season it's Kentucky Sports Radio we tell you now it's time to get your body healthy so you can enjoy the warm weather ahead at court physical therapy court physical therapy helps you and your family do all the things you love and shake off your winter blues no reason to be sore or sick go to court physical therapy it's k-or-t dot com for a location near you by the way the people that lean back on the planes when you have a six foot four person behind you should be shot violence you can't lean back on the planes that's what they put the it's there for yeah but then all of a sudden i'm eating my knee we'll be right back last night a blown call changed a game this morning the internet lost its mind highlights are trending opinions are flying and nobody's telling you exactly what happened

Starting point is 00:45:26 Welcome back, Tech Sports Radio. All right. Somebody says, Matt, it has to do with the aperture on your phone. What is it aperture? I don't even know how to spell it. I have no idea. I know ambisher, which is what I would use to play the trumpet with my, you have an ambisher on your mouth, but I don't know what in amputure. No idea.
Starting point is 00:45:51 Does your phone even have that? I don't know, but I know just you saying that I got a ton of pictures. People all took pictures of the northern lights. Yeah, but I don't think they saw it with their naked eye. So these folks here, think about this, from Pendleton County, in Campbell County. One of them now lives in Dubai. Whoa. The other one in Campbell County, they got a guest here from.
Starting point is 00:46:12 Russia. That's quite a group making their way here. I can see a lot of similarities between Falmouth and Dubai. Quite a change. He flies for Emirates Airlines, which people say is the nicest air. They wouldn't have stranded you and your mom in Dallas. They would not.
Starting point is 00:46:28 No, they would not have. There's no doubt about that. 859-280 27. What about UK is going to play Western in Rupp Arena next year as part of the schedule, the cats and the toppers. Ryan, of all the people I know, you probably like that more than anybody.
Starting point is 00:46:44 I almost jumped up and down and did a woot-w-w. I was so happy to hear that. I think it's something Pope will do every year. He said they want to play at least one in-state school every year. I think it's awesome. I think it's great for the kids that are playing at these other schools because a lot of times they grew up dreaming and wanting to play at Rupp. Okay, maybe you can play against U.K. at Rupp.
Starting point is 00:47:06 That's a big deal for the other schools around the state, Murray, Western, Eastern, Northern. I love it. Morehead. I'm glad he, I think he's going to do that and be very successful at it. Yeah, I hope to see a lot of us in the future. We've done a good job recently of playing Kentucky State and Georgetown and working the smaller schools into an exhibition game. And we played Moorhead quite a bit.
Starting point is 00:47:25 Yeah. But now going at the directional schools, they played Western with Oscar. They did. Uh-huh. And they had that big tall guy. Yeah. And they ran into them in the tournament, I guess, years ago in the calendar era. Before that, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:47:37 It was too many games. I mean, the problem for Western and Murray has always been their design. to play back there. But if they take that away, I'm for it. I had somebody right and say they wanted our three-team, four-team tournament every year to be like Eastern, Western.
Starting point is 00:47:55 I'm against that. But one game a year against one of those teams, I'm for that. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, right? Like we need to, especially now with these tournaments paying NIL money and Maui, we don't need to, I mean, they're doing that this year,
Starting point is 00:48:10 but we don't need to be wasting our tournament on playing these little teams anymore. I know that was a cow thing, but I hope that doesn't continue going forward. We spread out these Kentucky games overseas. Yeah, just play once. Yeah. You don't have to put them all at once. And I think everybody would be happy with that.
Starting point is 00:48:25 You know, take out a Texas commerce or a Stonehill or some of these other teams and put in one of the local school. So I'm excited about it. I think I heard Billy say this morning on the pre-show, they've only played each other like nine times Kentucky and Western. Yeah. Has Western ever? Seven, seven times?
Starting point is 00:48:41 Western ever won? Oh, they did with Patrick Sparks. With Patrick Sparks. At Rupp Arena. Was that the only time they won? No. In 71, they beat Kentucky to go to the final four with Jim McDaniels and that group. Okay. So the times I remember us playing was the Patrick Sparks. You're right. We played them in the regular season. And then we played them in the NCAA tournament 2015. Is that right? It was in Louisville, right? It was in Louisville, yeah. It was in Louisville. It was in Louisville. We played Eastern in the tournament one time in Louisville, too, didn't we? Yes. Or no, in Indianapolis. This is Oh, it was in Indianapolis. That was when Tubby was here. But yeah, with the recent one, it was something with COVID.
Starting point is 00:49:17 We weren't even supposed to play them. Yeah, we were supposed to play. We were supposed to play Louisville. Yeah, and Louisville chickened out and said they were sick, and we played Western instead. That's the only reason that ended up on the schedule. All right, who's next? Mark. Mark, go ahead, Mark.
Starting point is 00:49:33 Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. Just wanted to say, I think the cats will come in about 20 seconds. like you said, depending on if they get the good guard there or not. Also, I want to say something about my hometown high school here in Mewenberg County High just won their six fishing championship bass fishing. Oh, it's a bat, so they've won the Balsh fishing state title. They sure did for the sixth time in 11 years. Look at that.
Starting point is 00:50:07 Dynasty. Dynasties. Wilmingburg. Probably loading those fish with weights. Now, wait a minute. Am I right? I think I remember. Don't you all, though, have it, like, in your lake?
Starting point is 00:50:16 No, it's at Kentucky Lake. It's about an hour and 15 minutes away from us. I feel like home field advantage for the lake is a big deal. I appreciate the call. Because if you know where the fish are, I feel like that's a big help. Oh, they're traveling far. They don't have a... I mean, they got a little water in Mulemberg,
Starting point is 00:50:32 but they're going to the big lakes for this and dominating. You'd think Lyon County or one of the counties on the lakes would probably dominate the state fishing title. It is, there can't be that many states that have a fishing title, but congrats to Mewenberg County for making it happen. By the way, we were talking about traffic earlier. Get ready for traffic that first weekend in June. Let me go over the event. Okay. Railbird. Big. Kentucky High School Track Championship. Big. Kentucky High School Baseball Championship. And it looks like we're going to be hosting baseball regionals. All the same weekend? That's exactly what happened last year, and it looks like it's going to happen again,
Starting point is 00:51:09 and they're already out of hotel rooms. So we may have to put somebody in a dorm again, just like we did last year. Don't forget, blippy is it Rupperina. Who? Blippy, some kids thing. But add it to the list. What is Blippie? I don't know, but add it to the list.
Starting point is 00:51:24 It's a big Rupperina thing. And it's for children? It's like a kid's something or other. Which there'll be a big crowd probably for that. I'm just adding it to the more happy. Do you all know what Blippie is? No one knows what Blippie is. Do not know.
Starting point is 00:51:35 We're not kids. That's true. We'll take a break. Come back. I want to talk about Florida, whining about the cats. We'll talk about what they said right after this. KSR, hour number two. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Starting point is 00:51:50 Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes.
