It's primary election day. Yes. I honestly, I mean, I guess I knew it was coming, but I don't know that I processed it was today. Yep. So did you vote? No. Going after the show. What are we voting on?

Is it the House or what is it? I don't even know. District. I'm trying to think, what would, what, what, is there any race that's, that's close? I, I don't see any yard signs in Lexington to help me persuade my decision, but there are a ton of them in Georgetown. I mean, they're all over the place in Georgetown. So what, oh, because they're trying to replace Damon Thayer, I bet.

Maybe that's, is that what it is? Yeah, so Damon Thayer, who's been the senator there for like 700 years. He is not, he didn't run again, so I bet that's the race there. Okay. Five U.S. House races. Yeah, but I mean, none of them are going to change hands. Three state Senate races. But that's...

I'm just telling you what we're voting on. I don't know that there's... Is there anything big? Well, all elections are big. I understand that. I mean, that's the nice thing to say. But, all right, well, I didn't know. So, go vote, though.

I'm not having come on right before just to introduce him to the world. So he's going to be on in 30 minutes. I hope he's ready.

Do you think he's, has he prepared topics? Have you prepared topics? He says, oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, they have topics. They're good on top. Darren's dad called in and said he has 12 topics for 30 minutes of radio. So I think he's going to be just fine. He's got an OVO Kentucky shirt on, those were hard to get.

What do you mean his dad called? His dad called in on the pre-show. Oh, okay, his dad called in on pre-show. I said, that's plenty for 30, not even 30 minutes of radio. So he's going to be overly prepared. All right, I like it. That's what I want to hear. All right, Chas Lanier was on campus yesterday, drew,

and then he went to Tennessee last night. they painted the rock for him. You know that rock they have there? They painted the rock. It said, Chas, come home. He put that on his Instagram story. I didn't like that.

Just stupid rock shay. Who cares about a rock? Who paints a rock? They paint a rock everywhere. People paint the train trestle in Middlesbrough all the time. Doesn't mean you should go play there, right? For college basketball. Fair point.

Yep. He's down to Kentucky, Tennessee, and BYU. All right, I'm eliminating BYU. He's not more. Drew, why are you signing up for that if you're not more? Yeah, there's Buzz. They have NIO money, but we have NIO money too. So if it's just money versus money, you're picking Lexington or maybe Knoxville.

So I think it's Kentucky or Tennessee. What are you hearing, Drew? What's the latest scoop? Well, they did the usual Jeff Ruby's trip. Did a little walk-through triangle park downtown, and then he got in the car and made the late trip to Knoxville. Like you said, he seemed very impressed by that rock. I'm a little thrown off by that rock.

Why do you care so much about the rock? And he posted it on his story as soon as he got there. I saw he got out and took pictures with some fans by the rock in the middle of the night. I always thought that's where they put stuff about like Greg Shiano and negative things. But we're up against this rock right now. Do we need our own rock? Yes. If that's what it takes to get this kid, let's just go get a rock and put it over on campus and paint it.

We can't have a rock because that's what they have. So what can we have instead of a rock? The tree. He can't paint trees. Big piece of limestone. somewhere. Can we paint limestone? Yeah, I don't like that the rock was impressive. Now, somebody

sent me a picture and granted, okay, I don't want people, the last time we talked about text from the text machine, it went online as Matt Jones said. This is a text machine post, Shannon. This is not a me post. I got you. But it had a picture

and it was Lanier at the Hertz Rent-Renicar. Yeah. We didn't make him rent a car. car did we? Oh, I see what you're saying. I hope not. Well, I would think that would be more Tennessee making him rent a car to get there. Maybe it's how Tennessee got down there. The Kentucky visit was done if he's in to hurt to rent a car. Well, this was Sunday night. This was Sunday night.

He had to fly in from BYU. But we didn't make him rent a car. He wouldn't rent a car just for a one-day visit. He would need to rent the car for Knoxville. What if we rented him like a Ferrari or something crazy like that? Do they have those that hurts? I don't know. Can you get a Ferrari? Tom Brady advertises for him. I don't think he's driving around to Volvo. Yeah. I just didn't like the rent a car.

But maybe you're right. Maybe Tennessee said rent a car drive through Williamsburg and then come to Knoxville. Maybe that's what happened, Ryan, is he had to rent a car to go to Knoxville. Something in me hopes that the interstate was shut down and he had to go that route you took us through from Middlesbrough to Knoxville that one time. Yeah, maybe he had to go to. to Pineville, to the flow coat. I don't know. But we heard all the

A.m. church services on that Sunday. Yeah. I don't know. I just saw the Verita car picture and wondered, but maybe he just knew somebody there. But we don't know, Drew, how our visit went, do we? No, we were rooting for a boom. You know, you didn't want him to go to Knoxville, but that's been his

plan all long, so maybe it went well and they just said, I got to finish this through, because he did have a plan of all three in a row, BYU, Kentucky, Tennessee, and then he'll make his decision. So he escaped without booming, but that doesn't mean it didn't go well. All right, we'll find out. Now, I want to give you a little update of the most important thing happening in college sports

that you may not realize. This week, all of the major conferences are meeting to decide whether or not to approve the settlement in the case House v. NCAA. Ryan, are you familiar with this at all? No. Okay. Shannon, is he going to be able to get it through these? I don't know.

We'll find out. We'll find out. Who has a better chance of getting through the show? Ryan the summer or Darren at 1130? Darren has 12 topics. Darren has 12 topics. Ryan has not been reading on the biggest settlement that's coming in college sports. Read up on it.

But this is what is happening. A group of lawyers sued on behalf of all college players of all times. which is quite a class, basically saying you all withheld money from players for years and took it to your own enrichment. sued for 20 Shannon billion dollars. Holy cow. 20 billion dollars. They are reports say about to settle for $2 billion.

$2 billion. It's still a huge settlement. I'd love to have those attorney's fees. You wouldn't have to work again. But basically the settlement looks like this. Each school will commit to an amount of money to pay the past damages and the future damages. Basically, this would be the lawsuit

that would settle all lawsuits to ever come about giving money to college players directly. Basically, Shannon paying players, right? Right. And colleges would agree in the major conferences to pay up to $20 million a year to be shared amongst players in all the various sports. Now, it's not clear who would get what.

That's still to come. But for the NCAA, they want this because this would basically mean that from now on they wouldn't have to worry about being sued because they don't pay these guys. It would essentially set the precedent forever

of how athletes will get compensated. There's a lot of talk about how the money's going to come. The NCAA is going to pay for some of it. Small colleges are going to pay for some of it. Big colleges are going to pay for a lot of it. But ultimately, this would make it to where, players would get paid, and all past claims that people listening, many of you listening,

maybe former D1 athletes, you might end up with a check one day, Ryan, for some amount of money. Probably a small amount of money, but maybe some amount of money. Now, here's the part that matters. When this happens, schools are going to have to take up to $20 million a year and set aside for athletes. That is a massive sum of money. The ramifications of that are going to be something that people don't even realize yet. For instance, I think we will see coaches' salaries on the whole. Ryan, go down. Yeah. I think that's going to happen. I think those nice new buildings, you ain't going to see as many of them. Because now everybody has to factor in the $20 million in their

budget. And now this is a big thing. I think every college in America in Division 1, including Kentucky, is going to have to cut sports. It's going to happen. Every school is going to see sports cut. Kentucky has 23 programs on their campus. Ohio State, Drew, has 36. Some of those are going to go away. They just are. I don't know what they'll be. I think every college will have to make their own choice.

They also have to follow Title IX. So when they cut one program, they'll have to cut another program maybe on the other side. But we are going to see this summer, while I'm gone, probably the most fundamental structural shift in college athletics of all time, likely with this year and next year the ending of college programs at nearly every school and in a completely different way that the college budgets are going to have to be organized.

Ryan, I would argue this is the biggest change that has come to college sports, maybe since integration. And it's coming. And I don't think most people even realize it. There's been a lot of focus on NIL and the transfer portal, and that stuff matters. But this goes at the whole heart of the foundation and what college sports is. I think it's a good thing because if they don't do this,

it's all going to fall apart in the next few years, which is why I think they're all going to do it. But we will see massive structural change coming in the next year to two that will, in two years, college sports will look completely different than it does right now. Kind of scary what you just said, to be honest. Thinking about my thoughts were originally like, what about the smaller schools?

like Moorhead and Eastern. They're going to lose it too. Yeah. I mean, every, I'm going to make your prediction. Almost every college in America will have one or two fewer sports in two years than they have now. And as you know, a lot of these schools, their budget thrives on what they make from their athletic budget. But, well, not many. Most schools now lose money in sports.

Kentucky's one of the few that turns a profit. The scholarships will come down on the sports that do stick around to. I think you'll see that. I think you're going to see a fundamental change in everything. And I don't know, Drew, to I'll let you finish your point, I don't know where it goes. There's a lot of things that'll be on the table. I've been reading up on the Title IX impact too. I mean, if it's 20 million, does 10 have to go to men?

Does 10 have to go to women? I don't think it does. Right now they have to figure that out. I was reading up on how that's an issue they've run into. They don't know for sure, but I don't think it will because. they'll talk like it's it's complicated but title nine law is about opportunity and they can say the payment is based on revenue generated but here's what they can't do they still have to give an equal amount of scholarships so if they cut a men's program Ryan they'll probably have to cut a

women's one too or vice versa man that's it's that scary stuff you're talking about right there in our imminent future so it's crazy imminent or eminem NCAA is trying to pay this huge tab because if it goes to court, I guess they could get even higher. If it goes to court, they don't seem confident that they have any chance there. Here's why they're settling this. If it goes to court, they will lose.

And Shannon, they could lose $20 billion, which would end the whole thing. Yeah. It's a dangerous path to go down. They have to settle. Yeah. Because they're going to lose. To settle for $2 billion, even if that sounds crazy.

They have to. They're going to lose. The model of college. sports and I don't care whether you liked it or not was illegal and we've done it for a hundred years and now after that Supreme Court case two years ago it can't happen anymore and this is how it'll settle so this is something to watch you should read up on the house it's it's i know it's house makes it sound like the house of representatives it's not the house of representatives it's a plaintiff called house you need to read up on that case because when i come back in

And, yeah, I've seen a couple of guys get mowed down. Then they implemented the two-base thing. And you don't even touch it, the outside base, if you're rounding, and you hit like a double or something. So there's no worries.

So you don't think it's stupid. You think it makes sense. Yeah. It definitely makes sense because you're only using that outside base whenever you're mowing down the line trying to leg out an infield, infield hit or such. And if you're going to round first anyway and head towards second, you ignore the outside base completely.

So that's how that rolls. All right. As for a Chats Lanier looking to see, I was actually calling to see how that went with him. And any word on Jackson Robinson? Still no word. Somebody, one of the draft people said he's 50-50 to stay in the draft, but that his stock is rising, which obviously would hurt us.

Yeah. Is there anybody else else else that you think Pope might pursue? I don't, I mean, I'm sure they would go get someone else. I appreciate the call. But I think those are the two guys, Drew, that are, I mean, if you're talking about a difference maker, those are the two that are left. Now, someone could always pop up that can happen, but those are the two, wouldn't you say left that can be a difference maker?

Yeah, a few weeks ago, Miami Wougapoppler was on that list. I haven't seen much communication or anything reported that they're in touch with him. Maybe they are, but it seems they're down to Robinson and Lanier. And if, you know, you get a boom from Lanier tomorrow or this week, Robinson might just see that. And that might be what he needs to keep him in the draft. He seems like he's truly split because he's getting good feedback. You just need one. I mean, you'd love to have them both.

But I think realistically, you got to get one. Vernon. What's up Vernon? I just have a Dechambeau comment with some Kentucky flavor. Years ago, if you remember when Couch and Yeast and Company beat Alabama, I had a 12-year-old son, and we stormed the field, and Craig Yeast gave Elijah his wristband, and a guy snatched it. And before I could get to that guy, Craig Yeast grabbed him, took it back away from him, gave it back to my son and said, I gave it for the little guy.

And then, interacting enough, years later, my son played football at Center College, and Craig Yeast came in for a football camp, and Elijah was able to say, hey, you remember giving a wristband to a little guy at Commonwealth Stadium, and they kind of connected over that. And we still have that wristband. Well, that's very cool. Let me ask you, I appreciate the call. Shannon, let's say you threw out a, I don't know, a guitar pick or something or one of your scarves you wear when you're up there on the band. and you were trying to throw it to a kid and some person grabbed it. Would you go, would you pull a D. Shambo and say give it back to the kid? No, that's security.

You should take care of that in that situation. Oh, you have security. I'm making security of the bad guy. Hey, security, go over there and get that back. Wait a minute, you have security? Keelan who was going to be on the show after the first break he he said hey is this you and he's like I think you won this thing and I was so shocked I was so confused I was like what is going on I didn't when you have a bunch of teams in the final four is that how you want it I know I had the final game predicted I don't know about the final four predicted I know I had the UCon beating Purdue so That really shocked, you know, that I got that. I had the UK going really deep. That didn't work out well for you.

No. I was really shocked after that one. Yeah. That happening. I don't want to talk about it. But you got to figure everybody else picked the same thing. Everybody else had Kentucky going far. Absolutely.

Yeah. But, yeah, I figured I'd like to introduce myself just so that way everybody sort of knows what's going on. Yeah, my name is Darren Smith. I'm from Perry County, Hazard, Kentucky. I'm a preacher's kid. I believe my dad actually called it on the pre-show earlier. He did. Yeah, he called me, let me know that.

Should have brought him with you. He's quite a talker. Yeah, he told me that he put down Keelan about being short and stature, but that's okay. But anyways, I just graduated here in the start of this month. I'm looking to go back home to hazard to work in pharmacy. Good for you, man. And just like a regular independent pharmacy, I'm not looking forward to being like a hospital pharmacist.

That just never really was my sort of ordeal. But yeah. That speaks highly of you because so many kids that grow up in the mountains, they go to school and they don't come back and give back to their community. You're going to do that. So that's important. Yeah. I feel like the reason why I wanted to do that was just because there's no secret in

East of Kentucky. There's like a drug problem and stuff like that. So I felt like being doing, going into that line of work. I could potentially make some sort of a difference in that. Just pharmacy in general. A big thing for that. I feel like you already have bonus points from Matt from being from the mountains and more to help the mountains too. You're playing to the crowd here.

Yeah, 606 shout out. So I was going to go ahead and get into our first topic if you guys will. Hey, this is your show. Let's do it. The first thing I'd like to talk about, I don't know if y'all seen this or not, but a Bleacher report put out last night that, well, I want you all to guess, Who was the most bet player to go first overall in this NBA draft? If you had a guess.

I'll go with Saar. Sar. Yeah, Olivier Saar's brother. Okay, well, they have Bronny James as the most bet player to go first overall. They go number one? First overall? First overall, yeah. The current odds are 200 to 1, so I'm not really sure.

You know, I mean, is there any scenario where he would go number one overall? I can't think of one. Well, knowing you get Dad with you for two years, that would be reckless behavior. That's a lot of money to gamble that you're just going to have LeBron for two years, basically what you're drafting him for. Well, even that, you're getting LeBron at the end of his career, you know. So you're not even, I feel like a contender would be the one to draft Bronte because you're wanting to get that extra piece to put you over the top instead of, you know, potentially a team that's in a rebuild mode like Atlanta, you know,

which they aren't really a rebuild. They're just sort of working on that. But it's kind of wild to put your actual hard-arm money down, even the 200-1, to try to get Brony James first. Yeah, I'm super excited about the Spurs, though, because I believe that one of our Kentucky boys are going to go there. Yes, yeah. And pair up with Wimby. And Kelton Johnson's already there. Yeah, so I feel like that's potentially a Kentucky fan rooting thing, especially if Reed Cheper goes there because, you know, everybody loves Reed and Rob.

Well, that's the question. Yeah, who's going to go ahead of the other? Having looked at, like, some of the spurs, like, fan talk groups and stuff like that, most of their fans seem to be actually wanting, like, Reed over Rob. I don't know, which, I mean, obviously, Rob, you get to sort of the wow factor of it and stuff like that. But Reed, they mentioned specifically because their team has had issues shooting. He's such a lethal shooter. I'm super excited to see how that goes.

They've also got the ninth pick, so potentially, you know, they're building some. something there and it would be really nice to see one of our, you know, potentially Reed or Rob having a good career of long side of Wendy. I think that's a... Yeah, let them kind of grow together and, you know, become superstars right in front of our eyes. So I think whichever one they pick, I mean, I'm excited about what the Spurs are going to do. I'm thinking we see Reed to Houston at number three. Even though the Spurs love Reed, I think that's pretty clear.

I don't think he falls to four, which is crazy to say out loud because I think Houston loves him too. So I think Houston goes Reed and then we get to... of Rob Wimby Future in San Antonio, which would Reed be the first collegiate player selected? I think so. I mean, unless Atlanta and Washington did something else. We even took him higher. I don't know as much what they're looking at, but I've heard positive things about Houston being interested in Reed Shepard.

Yeah, so I think that's really good. Who do y'all got in these conference finals coming up in the NBA? Well, I'm a die-hard Indiana Pacer fan, and that low-life Shannon the dude on the other end, he is a Boston Celtic fan. So we're going to have fun for, are you a Celtic fan also? We can't be friends. I'm a pacer through and through.

Well, enjoy your four games in the conference finals. Yeah, I mean, I like Indiana. You know, obviously they, whenever they're hot, they're hot. They were really hot on Sunday against the Knicks. They were the best team in the league Sunday. I don't, I mean, Boston gets hot too, but when Indiana gets hot, they can go on like, massive like 20-0 runs and stuff like that, which is pretty intimidating for our Celtics fan.

But other than that, I mean, Celtics just threw and through defensively are just much better, I think, than... I don't think teams are giving Indiana enough chance. Boston's clearly better. I think they're a 10-and-a-half-point favorite tonight. That's deserved. I mean, a sweep is, you know, probable. But I think there's a chance Indiana surprised everyone. Let's not forget.

This is our playing tournament champion in December. Amen. So they knows what it takes to run through the bracket. Eventually, Boston, you know, they're going to have some bad games. It's been a pretty smooth process through the playoffs so far. So even though Boston's a much better team, I'm not completely giving up on Indiana shocking some people and making it a series. Yeah, and I think a lot of people forget that Indiana also beat Boston in that playing tournament.

That's right. Thank you. Thank you. Shannon, just had the Celtics play Luke Cornett. Let's keep playing Luke Cornett out there, and the Pacers are going to win this one. the superstar he's the guy that it's going to be the future we're all going to be talking about and they're on a role right now and car anthony town's had a good game on this weekend he had like 23 points and 12 rebounds i think so it'd be hard to pick against those guys i think yeah i mean Minnesota's been pretty special, and they're so fun to watch. I love Carl's finally getting some postseason success, even though he's the number two now. But I kind of like what PJ's doing next to those guards in Dallas. He had a big game. I know.

I'm going to lean Dallas a little bit of an upset pick, just so you have Luca and Kyrie. In the last series, they made PJ Washington beat them in some games, and he did. He did five threes in game five or six, I believe. So this one's going to be good one. I think we're getting a game seven, and I'm going to slightly lean toward Dallas with what PJ's doing. Yeah. I remember back in the day whenever we used to just cheer for whichever team had a Kentucky player on it. And now it's like you're cheering for everybody if you do that. So you pick you in that. The one team of the four. So I guess you all, who wasn't you and Shannon are the two that hate the team without a Kentucky player?

Telling on yourself here. We got an Isaiah Jackson with the Pacers. That's true. One of the most forgotten players. Celtics used to have James Young while he was still in the league. He was my only hope for Celtics fan. But other than that, yeah, that's the only team that does. doesn't have a Kentucky player. You want to try this read? Well, you got us on here? We got to read.

and he's got two years of eligibility left if Mark Pope wants a walk-on shooter. Yeah, absolutely. Maybe prefer walk-on or maybe in that 13th scholarship spot for Mark Pope. Awesome. You want to tell everybody a little bit about yourself? All right, man. Yeah, my name's Austin Miller. I grew up with Darren, high school, college.

And yeah, man, diehard Kentucky fan and going to be a pharmacist as well. Nuclear pharmacist down here in Lexington. Shout to my boys at Cardinal Health. All right, man. Let's go. All right. So I would be completely out of line if I didn't talk about our trip to Pittsburgh, Keelan. We went to Pittsburgh during the NCAA tournament for the actual, you know, the Oakland game,

which it's sad to talk about. But I thought I got to get it off my chest because I'm a little got to. broken heart after that loss. We got down there into Pittsburgh. We couldn't get into our Airbnb. We should have known at that moment that we were going to have issues. We got in there to the actual arena. It felt like we got like seats on the Oakland side.

Yeah, we did. And we were like behind the basket. We had a whole row in front of us of guys who told us that before 10th that they were friends with Jack Golky. Yeah, they said they were best friends with Jack Golky. and I was talking about Trey Townsend. That's the one I was worried about. But they were like, oh, yeah, watch out Jack Goki.

He's about to go crazy. And I was like, yeah, whatever. Well, we know what happened. Yeah. We about got thrown out. I about got thrown out of the game. Me and Darren are actually a pretty famous duo in Pittsburgh. Yeah, we about got thrown out just because apparently the Oakland fam was not happy with the, well, he was trying to make a point that we should be nervous about the game.

And I was like, yeah, obviously we were. And then the guy threatened to throw us out. Obviously, I think that was on bad grounds for. for trying to throw us out. Keelan and I also have some more beef. We've got to settle. Keelan, would you like to tell them about our... So everybody knows the new EA college football game coming out.

It's been really big in the news. And me and Darren have a bit of a personal problem with it. And we can't decide who is going to get Kentucky in our online franchise. And the way we're going to settle this is with a 1V1 driveway ball in Darren's driveway. Yeah. My dad called into the pre-show, and he mentioned a pretty good... glaring weakness in your game and that's that you're 5'1. I'm 5'1.

I'm 5'5, but yeah. Well, I mean, I believe my post game should be able to handle you anyway. I mean, I'm not tall either. Let's point out that you're only 5'7. Yeah, but I mean, I'm tall enough. I mean, like a 6 inch height advantage is pretty big, pretty significant. That's a 2 inch height advantage. Okay, whatever.

Awesome, who you got? Between you guys, if it's, what we talked about earlier, at 12, playing a 12, I got Darren 12 to 12 to 12, man. I'm sorry, man. I'm going to have to disagree with your pick there. All right. Well, that's really the main topics that we wanted to get out of the way. Shannon, who's up next? Let's go to Joe. Hello, Joe. Hey, Darren, doing a great job. When Darry, the GM of the Rockets, figured out that three was 50% more than two, the game of basketball kind of changed, eliminated the big man.

What do you think about making the three-point shot worth two and a half, bringing back the big man? Would you be in favor? that? I don't know about being in favor of that. I appreciate the call. Yeah, I believe not just the Rockets, but also Steph Curry and his ability to shoot the basketball from another level of range also pushed the importance of three-point shooting anyways. And I think it's really helped with the entertainment of the game, keeping it fresh. But I get the caller's point. I do. If we could find a way to make Big Man once again more prominent league, I think it's watching the foul calls.

I think if we could be a little bit more lenient with people bumping up against each other, maybe big guys wouldn't be getting, I mean, Kat gets in foul trouble all the time. Yeah. I'd be watching Timberwolves. But maybe if we're more lenient with foul calls, it would be a good way. Yeah, I definitely agree, though, that it feels like the big man has died a little bit, or at least the low post game anyways. I mean, you see players like Nicola Yolkich and Joelle and Bede also,

they're still really good big man in the game. and, you know, you got the ability. They also have the ability to shoot as well, though. Yeah. You don't have any big men that are just only in the post anymore. Like, players like Andre Drummond used to dominate the game because they could get 20 boards a game, and now he's just sort of, he's just another player on the Bulls at this point.

Let's take one more, Shannon. All right, let's go to Donnie. Hello, Donnie. Hey, I guess my question was more for Matt, but I'll ask you guys since he's not on. And he was talking about that ruling earlier, you know, set the precedence. And colleges having to go back and pay former players, wouldn't that also set a precedence that schools could sue the NCAA and say, hey, if that's the case, then whenever we've got

penalized and had forfeit games, forfeit titles, you know, won't they be able to say that, that you've got to reimburse those? if you say that we should have been able to pay players back then. Yeah, I think you've got a really good point there. You've got to take both sides of the corn. Yeah, yeah. But like you said, that would be a really good question for Matt, him having his law backgrounds. Well, let me just say, guys, here I am for a second.
