This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Welcome everyone to Kentucky Sports Radio. I'm Matt Jones here live at the KS Bar and Grill. It is Wednesday, May the 22nd. Just two more days until... My last show here on KSR until August, but we got it's Wings Day here at KS Bar, which means dollar wings, which means you should come out all day or night because you're not going to get a better deal than that anywhere. And we'd love to have you come out lunch. We'll be here again tomorrow and then Friday in Somerset at Don Franklin Kia. Is that right?
Starting point is 00:02:51 Don Frankin Kia. Don Franklin Kia in Somerset. Got some folks from Nicholsville, Harrisburg. Where are you from? Bardstown already here this morning. and it's not raining. It's just kind of, you know, spitting. But the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line is 859-2-80-20-287.
Starting point is 00:03:07 A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7-7-4-254 in this edition's sponsor by T.J. Smith-Lavis, call T.J. O'May, O'May, Ryan, let's go over some stuff here to start real quick. All right. First of all, the U.K. baseball team is playing at 1030 this morning against LSU in the first round of the SEC tournament. Right. You know, I am a bracket officianto, but the SEC. tournament baseball bracket is the most confusing bracket. They have single elimination for one round.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Yes. And then it becomes double elimination the next round. That's correct. Which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But now the eight teams that are left are double elimination. So if Kentucky wins today, they will play tomorrow at 4.30. Right. If they lose today, they will play tomorrow again at 10.30.
Starting point is 00:03:55 That's correct. Am I right about that? That's it correct. Yes. Now, because. it's coming on here, it will preempt our show in Lexington and Louisville. Now, you know, I don't like that. I know.
Starting point is 00:04:08 And it angers me, not at anyone in particular, just the heavens. Right? Like, why can't they put it on a different station? But it's on these stations. So what you will have to do if you're streaming to still hear it is there's another streaming station that's getting everybody goes to Somerset. True. All right?
Starting point is 00:04:29 The Somerset station. will still run it. And what is that station? 12.40 a.m. But what's the call letter? I'm not sure what the call letter. WS.F.C. 1240 a.m. W. W.S.fc. So at 10.30, or maybe even during the next commercial, just so you're ready, you want to move there if you want to listen to us instead of the baseball game. And we will keep you up to date on the baseball game because it will be on that big screen.
Starting point is 00:04:56 Yes. Yeah, exciting day for UK baseball. You know, they have to win in co-champs of the regular season, opening up playing the conference tournament, looking to get to host probably next week at the NCAA regional. So I'm excited for them. Almost certain to host, I'm told, both regionals. That's awesome. UK feels very good that they, because, you know, clearly the SEC tournament, Drew is just like whatever, you know, two first base, maybe a clown at shortstop, you know, a waterfall. Like, it's clear they just do it for fun.
Starting point is 00:05:22 So I think it probably won't affect our seating. I hope it doesn't affect seating. Big game today. LSU is a hot team. even though they're 11 seed, I kind of wanted to see Georgia a little more when that one yesterday. A little bit of a revenge game too because LSU ended Kentucky's year last year in the Super Regionals. That's a big matchup for your first game in Hoover today. But the bigger thing is they have to play us.
Starting point is 00:05:43 That's true. You know, I mean, it's not that we have to play them. It's that they have to play us. We knocked them out of the SEC two years ago. So a little revenge on both sides. Yeah, that's exactly right. So if you want to come over and watch the show, the game will be on as well. And then as soon as it shows over, we'll turn the sound on, and you can watch the game.
Starting point is 00:06:01 What a day, Dollar Wings Day, and you can watch UK baseball. And see us. See Lawson's last day shadowing us? Mario's wearing the ugliest shorts I've ever seen in my entire life, and so it's perfect. I do have a very serious question for you. Okay. I'm kind of concerned right now. What's that?
Starting point is 00:06:17 Where's your Bible? You got a notebook today. I think I lost it. No, did you? Oh, no. So we had that big meeting. We had that big meeting for lunch where we were kind of in our final. meeting.
Starting point is 00:06:29 Yeah. Yeah. And before we went over there, I went and I said, I'm going to put my book in the car. So then I forgot Lawson had to ride with me to UK because I had to have some meetings at UK. And I needed to clear out my seat so he had somewhere to sit. Not shocking. It may shock you.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Shannon, would it shock you that my passenger stuff had too much stuff for anyone to sit in there, right? I'd be shocked if there was room. So I had to, like, get all this stuff to put in there. And I think maybe I took that notebook and set it on the roof and then just drove away. That's brutal. I mean, that's your life's work. The good thing is, though, there isn't a lot in it right now because I knew I wasn't going to do anything in the next two months. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:13 But if I have an appointment scheduled with you in August, just assume I will forget because it's not going to be in the book because I don't have it anymore. So I think I drove, I think that book is like probably somewhere on Nicholasville Road. Oh, no. Between here and the. And the football's day. I mean, that's your life. That thing's attached to your hand in the mornings when we see you. So when you walked in with this notebook today, I thought, uh-oh.
Starting point is 00:07:34 Yeah. It's very upsetting, actually, because, you know, I've got to ask you this. A lot of times you often put your checks in that notebook. No, the checks have all been cash. Okay. I thought about that. Checks have all been cash by then. I don't think there's anything in there except, you know, like what I was doing.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Today's topics, 15 topics. There were topics. Somebody's walking around reading our topics for today, and you don't have it. You want to call it and tell me what the topics I had written down because I, of course, couldn't remember any of them because of that. But that made me sad that, you know, because that has a record. Those books over the years, I have almost all of them except one. There's one I can't find, like 2014. But pretty much all of them essentially are a record of the show for like 13 years.
Starting point is 00:08:17 And I have them all. So I would like to find it. My hope is that it's in this parking lot and someone, they probably just threw it away. We're being honest. Do you have your name in it? Like a contact number? No. No.
Starting point is 00:08:32 I mean, it's, I just thought, you know, the parking lot's right there. If it came out in the parking lot, maybe somebody brought in one of these places. Maybe somebody brought in one of these places here. But it's probably gone to be the car. I looked. I looked everywhere in the car. It is highly possible. It's in that car.
Starting point is 00:08:46 The other possibilities lost and stole it. That's a possibility. I don't think he did. But otherwise, I don't know what else to do. So, but I'm bummed because that's like six months. That's six months. of, you know, stuff and trivia questions and all kinds of things that are just gone. But, oh, well, that's the way it goes.
Starting point is 00:09:04 Okay, so the news this morning, I'm probably not positive. Chaz Lanier, it is now being reported, is leaning heavily Tennessee and that maybe Kentucky is out. That report is from Dave Sisk, and then I think the Trilly Donovan Discord, which is a phrase that is a funny phrase like that's that's a I mean but it is it's been a good source of news for a lot are kind of reporting that
Starting point is 00:09:34 which means if true he's going to go to Tennessee which isn't great but it also means Drew we got to get Jackson Robinson right like I mean we wanted one of the two you knew at one point one of them would choose and leave one left looks like we're going to have to get Robinson
Starting point is 00:09:50 yeah you know a little bummed if that's the case the way it goes but all along and I've said many times I'd prefer Jackson Robinson. So if they can still get him, this is all fine. It's just a matter of you don't want to strike out on both of them. Robinson, I guess he has eight days-ish, seven days. May 29.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Yeah, got a week to decide. If a week from now Jackson Robinson is on Kentucky's roster, then this doesn't matter to me whatsoever because he's who I wanted first. But it's going to be a little uncomfortable until that happens. Yeah, because I think if they don't get him, it's not like they're not going to be good, but I think they're going to be missing a big piece. And so then you have to say, all right, how do you feel that piece?
Starting point is 00:10:29 You know, is there somebody in Europe? I don't know. But I think I still feel good about Jackson Robinson. You know, I want to make just a little, this is just a little piece of Matt Jones friendly advice to the people in the recruiting world. Can I do this in a friendly way? Let's do it. Because I mean this in a friendly way. When I got started, the media at the time really was like crappy.
Starting point is 00:10:57 to me and to Drew. Now, we fired back. Don't get me wrong. We ended up not being, they like, threw slingshots and then sometimes we would throw like nuclear weapons, right? So I'm not trying to play the victim. But I remember saying when I get to the point, if I ever get to point that I'm like them, I'm not going to be like that with new people, right? Like, I'm going to welcome them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:22 And I've tried to do that as much as possible. You know, one of the kind of young podcast is going to hope. while we're gone this summer, right? So, but with that said, here's a little piece of old man advice. When Pope came in, it's like a new age now. You know what I mean? And this was the first coaching search we've had in the modern internet era, right? You know, social media era.
Starting point is 00:11:50 So we kind of were experienced something. A lot of teams have a lot for the first time. And then you had the transfer portal. We have to rebuild the entire. roster and all of a sudden there's like a desire for information that hasn't existed really since 2009 when Cala Perry got here. Was you agree with that? Because you were around, I mean.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Recruiting under Cal, it was pretty straightforward his plan. It was very easy. He either got him or lost to a Duke or a Kansas. He recruited seven guys. He got four or five of them rinse and repeat. Right. That's what happened every you. This is going to be a lot more, well, you know, it's not like Billy Gillespie where dudes
Starting point is 00:12:26 just, you know, we're in pictures of rose beds and all of a sudden they were committed to hear. But it's different. But because of that, and I respect this, there's a lot of people that have become like, I'm going to be the new insight. And I think some of those people might have information. Some of them might not, but it's hard to tell what is what for a lot of people. But here's what I would say, and I watch this with the Chas Lanier thing.
Starting point is 00:12:55 if you have one piece of good information, Drew, put out that piece. Okay? And just let it ride. But don't feel like you have to put out everything. Like don't feel like you have to comment on everything. You don't have to become woe your shams. Exactly. Because that's how you get yourself in trouble.
Starting point is 00:13:15 And I've watched this happen for 15 years. A person gets a good piece of information. People go, oh, this person knows something. They all start following them. And then they feel like the pressure to, okay, well, now I'm going to tell you this is going to happen. And then they start, like, guessing. And I think that's what happened with Chas Lanier. I think a lot of people had just put him at Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:13:33 Right? Do you agree with that? Yes. I mean, I didn't follow this one closely because I've been trying to deal with stuff to get out of here. But it felt like everyone was like, well, he's coming here. And I'm not sure that was ever true. When I talked to somebody this morning, they were like, we don't know why people always thought we were getting them.
Starting point is 00:13:51 We thought we had a chance. So I think now people's hopes got up But Drew I'm not sure Kentucky's in any different position Than they thought they were But our fan base got let down Because we're listening to people right now Who maybe didn't have anything on this particular thing Does that make sense?
Starting point is 00:14:11 Yeah, we're also desperate for that last spot You have them on campus He does the downtown trip that's been successful For so many So and then you add in the guys trying to have some scoop online There was a lot of optimism But at the same time, there was an interview with Jackson Robinson, knew yesterday before where he basically says I talk to Mark Pope every day still.
Starting point is 00:14:29 He called it. He said, I don't play for him now or at least not yet. Yeah, I mean, those two. That was his phrase. I don't play for him now or at least not yet. Those two know what's going on more than anyone. I'm sure Jackson might not be completely sure of what he's doing, but I think Pope has a good idea.
Starting point is 00:14:46 And maybe, hopefully it's the case that the linear thing came in. They had their conversation. now the Robinson thing is still, they're still, have a good chance with that moving forward. Like I said, you've got seven days. You add him,
Starting point is 00:14:57 I'll forget all about Lanier. The only thing that stinks with Lanier is it's Tennessee, so we'll actually see what he becomes. If he goes to Arizona or somewhere else, I don't think about that name again. He's probably going to be one of their, if not their best score. So we're going to see it.
Starting point is 00:15:12 Just like we're going to see what happens at Arkansas. We're going to see what happens at Tennessee because we're going to play it. So I'm still the, the point where I'm good if Jackson Robinson doesn't go the draft. He goes to the draft, then I start to go, all right, well, we're going to have to figure something out, Ryan. Is that where you are?
Starting point is 00:15:30 Yeah, and I kind of took the whole Lanier news as if he must think Jackson Robinson's coming to Kentucky. That's not how I take it. That's how I took it. Yeah. I felt like. Wait a minute. Wait, you're saying that with confidence.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Is that. No, no, no, this is just how I took it. Like, and I saw the initial news, I like, well. You don't usually say it with that kind of confidence. So I just felt like he must think that Jackson Robinson's coming to Kentucky. He said he didn't want to be here with what he's here. Let's be real. We know what it is.
Starting point is 00:15:55 It was that stupid paint at rock. That's the reason. That's the reason. We got to get us a rock. Kentucky. We got to get us a rock to paint. But we can't make it be a rock. We got chain rock.
Starting point is 00:16:06 I don't think they're going to go to Pineville on their recruiting visits. They should. But we got to put something on campus we can paint. He did post a lot of pictures from his visit. He seemed to like that rock. Cookie shop that had a sign out. front or we didn't have any cookie There was a lot of welcome home, Chaz, that
Starting point is 00:16:22 Knoxville's doing. You know, Mark, if Mark had said, I could have put up a sign, I could have, like, spelled his name out in chicken wings. You know, giving him cheese logs. I think this is more on our Chamber of Commerce. We got to work on, again, it's a new step, but we got to work on, I mean, it's it and posing
Starting point is 00:16:39 him in the construction vest, but, like, if they've got rocks and cookies, hard to beat that. We got, we got to figure something out. 859-280, 2287. We were here at KS. bar. The cats play at 10.30. We'll take a break. Be right back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where
Starting point is 00:17:07 sports slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. SportsClyce brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsClyce on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:17:45 And for more, follow Timbo SlicLife 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, fam? I'm Ms. Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
Starting point is 00:18:06 And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
Starting point is 00:18:30 we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He run up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court,
Starting point is 00:18:46 and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the, IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. American Soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming. Ramers sending on to Ernie Stewart for Chip. I'm Tad Ramos. I'm Tom Boe. On our podcast, inside American soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
Starting point is 00:19:13 I'm not worried about Policic. I'm not worried about Balligan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. You're going to look at stats and numbers. He has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team.
Starting point is 00:19:32 It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tab Ramos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. So this song, like, is there any song, Shannon, more connected to a commercial than this one? I'm sure there are, but this is definitely one of them.
Starting point is 00:20:02 I can picture that truck driving around the corner by a mountain. So what are the songs that were actual like real songs? So not created for the commercial. Right. But like a real song that over time became the commercial. Because this is like what, Ford trucks? Chevy. Chevy.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Yeah, well, clearly it worked. One of the other. It was one of them. But I knew when you hear like a rock, you're like, that's the truck commercial. What else is like that? I know there are a bunch. the Sarah McLaughlin dog Yes
Starting point is 00:20:33 No what's going I will remember You do to do that one You will read I think that's the wrong one I think that's the arms of an angel In the arms of an angel All of her songs are about someone dying
Starting point is 00:20:49 Right it's in the arms of an angel or I will So yes the dog commercial That's a really good one For 10 cents a day you can save every dog And like you feel bad Because I don't even like dogs but if you're telling me it's just a dime and I can save a bunch of them, I will, but then who do I give the dime to? You're at home watching her like, I have a dime.
Starting point is 00:21:06 I could save this puppy by making a move from this couch, but you never make the move. Do I just mail them a dime every day, and then the dogs will be okay? Can you think of the dogs are just dying? No, there's going to be some good ones. Yeah, that's a good one. 772-745254. What's a song completely associated with commercial? I also have another question.
Starting point is 00:21:27 And by the way, we've now, I guess, moved. already started the baseball cover. So it's WSFC, although if you can't hear this, you wouldn't know to move anyway. So never mind. But I tweeted it out. If they have the rocks and the cookies at Tennessee, what do we need, like what is our Lexington trip? I kind of feel like we've gotten in a rut that we always take these guys to Jeff Rubies, which is very nice, and I'm sure a lot of them like. But, you know, rocks and cookies are fun. What can we do that's the equivalent of rocks and cookies. We're spoiled with Keenland,
Starting point is 00:22:02 but you've got to hit those, those, the meats. You only get a couple of, boys, four weeks. We want to say we don't have a meeting. That's what I'm saying. That's our,
Starting point is 00:22:09 it's our pride joy, but we don't have a year round. Get the horses at Keenland to run, and each horse has a word on their silk. What if they get out of order? Okay, we've got to have to work on it. All right, we'll teach them.
Starting point is 00:22:24 Run home, Jackson. And so it would go, the horse would go, Jackson, Robinson, come here. Okay. Or we, we're shaking your head for you.
Starting point is 00:22:35 They just paint him on a rock and it worked. If we had a... That's how they come out. Okay, no, the here needs to be there. Okay. The here, if the here doesn't follow the path, that's bad.
Starting point is 00:22:47 Different story. But we got it, but see, that would be kind of creative, right? You don't like that idea. No, I mean, we had the cookie cake last year.
Starting point is 00:22:55 That was a disaster. That was a good. The blue shovel. So there's nowhere to go but up. I like that. But if it's as simple as they can paint a rock and the dude loves it and he posted on his Instagram, we have to have something like that that's uniquely Kentucky. We have to be able to figure out what that is because we can't lose to people painting rocks.
Starting point is 00:23:15 You know, they've got those horse statues all over town. Maybe they could put one in middle of Triangle Park, the focal point of downtown. Do recruits care about horses? I don't know if they care about rocks. All right, again, we're old. Mario, you are, your brother played college basketball, right? Would your brother have liked to have come and seen anything horse-related? No, there you go.
Starting point is 00:23:39 I think that's one of things we have to remember. Like, we're in Kentucky, we love horses, but the other 49 states are like, what? Nobody cares about rocks, but they paint the rock, and it works. But there are rocks everywhere. But maybe there's horses everywhere. There's not. In this state there are. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:56 But we're not recruiting people in this. state. We're talking about getting people that go elsewhere. So it's just something to think about what those things would be. There's also a new NBA mock draft out. Yeah. Reed, number three to the Rockets,
Starting point is 00:24:12 Dillingham, number four to the Spurs. This is the shocker. Three and four, I mean, three and four didn't start, lost Oakland. 29, Justin Edwards, in the first round. to the Utah Jazz. And then Antonio Reeves undrafted,
Starting point is 00:24:33 Jackson Robinson undrafted. So good, I mean, Jackson Robinson, I'm going to be selfish morning to come here. So we'll start. We wanted to be undrafted. Reed and Rob, it's still amazing to me Reed could go number three, but that's awesome. Justin Edwards, I get it.
Starting point is 00:24:52 I don't understand how Antonio Reeves doesn't get drafted. Like, what am I? I'm missing. Seriously, what am I missing on this? How is he not an NBA player? He is. It's just all about his age. But what, but I know. I agree that. My thing about the age, though, is how many dudes in the draft stay with one team long enough that their age ever matters? Especially a second round guy that might. How many of those dudes, like, show me that how many guys get drafted stay on the same team until they're 30.
Starting point is 00:25:29 It ain't that many. And the ones that do, they're superstars. Okay, so after like the 10th pick, you ain't picking a superstar. So how is he not? Am I crazy? I mean, if you made me, if I made you put money on it, who's going to have a better NBA career? Antonio Reeves or Justin Edwards, what would you say?
Starting point is 00:25:52 I'm taking Antonio Reeves, because he can shoot. He can do the one thing that you know, NBA's, NBA game right now. He can shoot. What would you? Me too, especially, and I think this will happen. There's going to be a contender who sees what's in front of them in the second round. They're like, oh, this isn't going to help us right away. That guy hits open shots, and they're going to take him. It's going to be someone wanting to win immediately where you're not worried about his long-term potential.
Starting point is 00:26:14 You're going to want someone that can come in and be a lights-out shooter right away. I mean, is there a world where Justin Edwards finds it and his athleticism turns him into a great player? Yeah, that world exists. I do think that exists. And could that great player be better than Antonio Reeves? Yeah, I can see that. But I know Antonio Reeves isn't going to fail. Like he can shoot.
Starting point is 00:26:38 He's, he, he, ah! I mean, I see him watch these dudes in the playoffs, the league has changed. Like random dudes who can shoot, make it, and he can do other stuff. It's not just the three. He's got that floater. He can go at every level. Was his Reeves' NBA draft status hurt by playing with Rob and Reed? that these guys were the are the
Starting point is 00:26:57 But it didn't hurt Robin Reed, they didn't start. And they're three and four. It's just like, it's, it is the age thing. But I just want to look at the people in the NBA and go, I mean, this dude you're picking 47th. He's not going to be on your team in six years. So why not get a guy that's good? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Why are you picking the dude who was the seventh leading scorer at Colorado? Would you take Brony James or Antonio? No. I mean, leave aside getting his dad. No way. We're talking age. He's only like, what, 23? Yeah, they also act like he's 90. I mean, he's 23 years old.
Starting point is 00:27:37 859-280-2287. Take a break. Take a calls. KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. And nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in.

It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 00:28:46 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
Starting point is 00:29:03 he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying.
Starting point is 00:29:19 man, he running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball, like, after you go through a training camp with that, I-Zah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:29:36 American soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming. Ramos sending on the only score at the chip. I'm Tad Ramos. I'm Tom Boat. On our podcast, inside American soccer, you'll get the real stuff. only lines.
Starting point is 00:29:57 I'm not worried about Policicic. I'm not worried about Balagan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
Starting point is 00:30:22 The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tabramos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. I hate this song so much. It's a good one, though, that was out before the Applebee's commercial. Yeah, but like this is a song that you created to get the commercial.
Starting point is 00:30:58 Right. Like, he wrote this song saying, I'm going to get. get an Applebee's commercial. Right? I mean, I don't know. I mean, Alan Jackson did the same thing. It was out first. That's what I'm saying. He created this song and probably thought if it gets a hit,
Starting point is 00:31:14 Applebee's will make me in the commercial. Gotcha. Right? Same thing with Alan Jackson. Crazy about a mercury going to crees about him. And then next thing you know, he got a deal from it. Crystal sent us the one, heard it through the grapevine. That's a great one.
Starting point is 00:31:28 For California reasons. Heard it through the grapevine of a certain age. which everyone thinks of that as the California rules. That's a really, really good call. That may be as good as any for that. I was racking my brain during the break. I feel like I'm still on my victory lap from Sarah McLaughlin. That really was good.
Starting point is 00:31:46 The Tigers hit a home run on the second LSU hit a home run on the second pitch of the game. So they're down 1-0. The good thing about college baseball is it ain't even close to over. I have my computer in front of me in Kentucky baseball tweeted, Travis Smith takes the bump and we're underway. as I looked up and the ball was going over the wall on TV. So, I mean, right as the game started, it's 1-0. He's the kid from Walton Verona, Travis Smith, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:09 Well, there'll be plenty of time. Feels like every game they play in is 13 to 9. It is. So hopefully there'll still be time. 859-280-2287. Who's up first? Let's go to Kevin. Kevin, go ahead, Kevin.
Starting point is 00:32:24 Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. I just calling in today with a neat story about Mark Pope. I was a senior at UK, and actually it already finished up, so we were just playing pick-up basketball in Memorial Coliseum. And Jeff Shepard was like, I don't know, 10 of us, right? And Jeff Shepard and Mark Polk walk in and they want to play. And, of course, me being a senior, I was still starstruck, even though Pope was, I believe, a sophomore or junior, I can't remember. But anyway, he proceeded to walk around and introduce himself to all. his team that, you know, that he joined and then the opposing team and said, nice to meet,
Starting point is 00:33:05 you know, whoever he was talking to and introducing himself to, he said, nice to meet you. And I was just blown away by that. Yeah, he's always been a super nice guy like that. That was many, many years ago. The big, big question is, did you score on him? Hell no. Okay. No, I didn't know.
Starting point is 00:33:21 I appreciate the call. Did you ever, UK, Drew, play with any of the UK players in any pickup games? I feel like some football players would come over to the Seton Center. I don't remember any of the current. You know, I was there for the end of tubby, the beginning of Billy. They might not just be able to get on the court. Not the beginning of Billy, all of Billy. So it wasn't really, my years of the UK weren't the years to have basketball sightings.
Starting point is 00:33:43 We were more into the Rich Brooks Music City Bowl era. Yeah. I was at Transea during that period where they would come over there and practice. Yes, that's right. And I never played, but I sat and watched UK players play against Transey players in that 99-2000 era because they uh they would come like during the the late summer and play pickup against them and and the UK team was better but not by lot I mean like that trancy team that trancy team would be competitive with them in those in those games and because that
Starting point is 00:34:16 trancy team was really really good that's the best argument you can say how good that trancy era was when they were legit competitive with well they would bring it was like the group of like Desmond Allison, Bogan, Saul, some of those guys. Like, that was who was the group there. And they would come and then Trancy would have Call Your Mills and Eric Lickie and Kyle Green and Anthony Staten and they'd play. And the Kentucky guys were better. But, like, I remember it would worry me that they weren't that much better. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:34:49 Trancy. I mean, there were many games where Call Your Mills was the best player on the court. Yes. I mean, if Keith Bogan's and Tate. Sean Prince weren't there, Collier was the best player on the court. We said it. Collier Mills would have made the Denver Nuggets if he didn't break his leg like the last week of tryouts. He was going to make the roster.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Yeah. So that would have been amazing if Trancy had a dude in the NBA. In the NBA during that. Shannon, did you see that our Krispy Cream on Barts Town Road caught on fire yesterday? I did, man. That made me sad. I love Krispy Cream. You know, if I was going down maybe into the Highlands, I would stop out of there every now and then and get some hot donuts.
Starting point is 00:35:24 There were always people there. Yeah. Like a freestanding Krispy cream. You don't see that very much. And it caught fire. I don't know if they'll open or not. It's right next to the El Nepal that I always really, that I always go to. I was sad.
Starting point is 00:35:37 I don't see a follow-up, but looking at the photos as it was on fire, that looked like a serious place there. I think it might be down for a while. I made this be totally wrong. But the news story I heard this morning, I thought it was like they were suspecting somebody through like a Mala Cocktow cocktail. A what? A what? Molotov cocktail. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:54 Or a Mala-Cokov. tale. Yeah. Is that, is that? You're always throwing those molo cock tock to cocktails around. Is that they said that? It seems aggressive for a donut place.
Starting point is 00:36:05 In the daylight. You're saying a guy threw a mottop cocktail. I think it's suspected. I think it's suspected. I think it's suspected. Why would they do that? It does say there's a suspect in custody. I don't see anything about a mock to tell of a cocktail of a cocktail of a
Starting point is 00:36:19 whatever he said. But why would you? It was like Tuesday at 10 a.m. I don't know. Who's that mad? Yeah, charged with arson. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:31 What's a happier place than Krispy Kreme? Didn't get his order right. Messed up his order. But if you were like wanting to do an arson to like really like get away with it, you do it in like the middle of the night, right? You don't do it at 10 o'clock in the morning. Good point. I don't think this person cared if they got away with it or not.
Starting point is 00:36:48 Do you think they just got mad? All seriousness. You think they just got mad like you did at the Dairy Queen and just, you know, chucked a Molotov cocktail into the building? I think there's a chance that could have happened. He goes through the drive-thru, the order wasn't right, he got into an argument with the purpose of the drive-thru. I'll show
Starting point is 00:37:04 you, who- Now, does that make you feel bad for how you treated the Dairy Queen person? No, I think the Dairy Queen person had that coming that day. He didn't burn it to the ground or anything. Then Ryan's defense. He should get a little round of applause for that. Way to not burn it to the ground. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:37:20 Joe. Joe, go ahead, Joe. I need a ad shame There are no ads The fact in Antonio Reeves Shot 50% or better in 20 college games And he's a borderline first round pick Is absolutely baffling to me The guy's a stud
Starting point is 00:37:36 He'll get points in the NBA Not a ton but 8 to 10 Yeah I don't get it I really don't I mean I don't get it He's not I mean I don't think he's in I don't think I would put him You know
Starting point is 00:37:48 I could see not picking him in the first round But I don't get it I appreciate the call. I really don't. I got a commercial. I got a commercial if you got one. What's that? It's been a while, but they used to not be able to watch a sports competition
Starting point is 00:38:02 without seeing that Traveler's commercial with the dog worried about his bone, the song Trouble by Ray La Montaigne, I think is his name. They ran that every day for five years. I don't know the song or the commercial, so I appreciate the call. I'm sorry. It doesn't help me. Who did the, I've been there, I've been there. Everywhere man commercial.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Wasn't that? Oh, that was... Somebody uses that. They do. But what is it... Obviously, I wasn't paying close enough attention. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:31 I don't remember what the question. I thought one of you would have it. I'm still disappointed about the Krispy Kree. So you're saying, Shannon, no, we have no... We have ads. They just not send them to you? No, we don't have them today. We're not running ads.
Starting point is 00:38:42 Oh, because of the game. Oh, good. All right. So we don't do any ads. Nice. I like it. All right. We will take a break and be right back.
Starting point is 00:38:50 No ad day on. On Wednesday, this is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Starting point is 00:41:53 Here, Wings Day, KS Bar, Bats are down 1-0, batting in the bottom of the first in the SEC tournament. So this is from a source on the text machine about Krispy Kree. Okay. Again, we take all sources on the text machine with a grain of salt, but this person says they have inside Krispy Kreme knowledge on this thing. Let's hear it. The part. Ryan was right.
Starting point is 00:42:16 The man went inside, got mad, tried to light a menu on fire, didn't work. Then he walked outside, set the menu on fire, tried to throw it through the drive-through window, couldn't go through, so he put it on the roof, and when it hit the roof, it set the building ablaze. Good grief. What? Over donuts? First, I didn't know Krispy Kree had menus.
Starting point is 00:42:44 Like, that you could, like, a printed menu that you could set. How mad do you have to be to take three shots at? You have time to think about it. And, you know, from a legal perspective, each one of them he did is further proof of it. he did it intentionally. Because he's going to get up there and act it like, well, I didn't mean to set the building on fire.
Starting point is 00:43:04 Yes, you did. But the fact that you did it multiple times and kept doing it will be used by the prosecution to show an intent to burn the building down. So like, if that story is true, it is only going to make, actually he'd be better off again that happened the first time. You know what I mean? Because he could have gone, well, I just wanted to scare him. I wasn't trying to set the building on fire.
Starting point is 00:43:27 Well, now you clearly. we're trying to set the building. So if that dude's going to go to prison, think about that. He just got angry at the Krispy Kree. And he's going to end up going to prison for a decent amount of time. Imagine being the guy in prison. What are you in for? I tried to burn down the Krispy cream because the hot light wasn't on.
Starting point is 00:43:44 I mean, how tough are you going to be in there? The Krispy. Took three tries trying to light a lot. Did you do it? Did you do it for insurance? No. They're out of glazed. I did it because they were out of glazed.
Starting point is 00:43:56 So there you go. You got to think. maybe some other issues going on there. No. Oh, yeah. Although give Ron 20 more minutes for that Dairy Queen. I don't know. Maybe not full blaze, but I think we were on our way to some fist of cuffs or something.
Starting point is 00:44:11 I didn't get mean. I was just pretend. Both the nicest, both the nicest and the meanest person on KSR are both Ryan. It's Jekyll and Hyde. He is the nicest and he is also the meanest. And that is just the way it's what you have to be with him. So who's up next? Retired Ruff.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Ref, go ahead. Matt, this is a call honoring Harvey. You remember Harvey? Of course, yes. And it's for Ryan. The question is, Ryan, do you still have those dreams? What's the rest of the question? Have we lose him?
Starting point is 00:44:54 No, he's still there. Dreams about what? You were talking about having the dreams in the house? in the... Oh, when Cal Perry was driving you around... I guess the way he's talking about. Okay. I appreciate the dream.
Starting point is 00:45:06 Do you... Yeah, do you still have dreams about Cali Perry now a month and a half later? I didn't know we were going to talk about this. I'll just tell you one thing that just happened. Uh-oh. Two nights ago, I had a dream about two girls that I grew up going to school with. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. No, listen, it's not like that.
Starting point is 00:45:23 Listen, I don't need your two girls dream. No, that's for a different show. I'm not... I don't need... I don't. It's nothing like that. I don't need that. But go ahead.
Starting point is 00:45:33 And then yesterday, the day after I had the dream, my mom sends me a picture of herself with one of those two girls that I just, how's that happened? I haven't seen that girl in 40 years, and my mom ran into her and took a picture of her and sent it to me. You know who this is? I'm like, I just had a dream about that girl last night. How's that? I don't understand how it happens. Why are you telling us? Well, he used to take me about that.
Starting point is 00:45:59 about the dream that it's really been bothering me i mean that's kind of weird okay but you you had a dream about just i i think about knowing with okay so just and what was the dream just i just kind of just run into him said hey how you doing and so then your mom ran into him the next day yes so you think there's some sort of thing cosmic force yes i believe so okay that's stupid but if you want to think that that's fine i mean if you want to do oh by the way i had a person write me see i got to catch myself they said Matt I listen to your show with my four-year-old and I noticed recently she's been saying the word stupid a lot and I told her she had to stop saying the word stupid and she goes but Matt that you listen to on the radio says it all the time and she said and he said I looked at her and said no he doesn't and then yesterday he said I said stupid three times and then I just said it right there so I'm going to for that four-year-old old try to stop saying the word stupid. Well, you're leaving for two months, so that'll help the four-year-old break the habit.
Starting point is 00:47:04 That's going to help. We'll try to keep it down as long as you all don't do it. We should be okay. Who's next? David. David, 859-280-2287. Go ahead. Hey, Matt, good morning.
Starting point is 00:47:15 How you all doing? Doing good. Awesome. Cool. Hey, you were mentioned earlier that we needed to find an attraction that recruiting recruits. Do you think a new state-of-the-art practice facility will fill in that gap? Possibly.
Starting point is 00:47:26 But, I mean, honestly, all these. The practice facility Here's my view on the practice facility The lodge needs to be improved You agree with that The lodge needs to be improved The practice facility isn't quite as nice As some
Starting point is 00:47:43 But it ain't terrible at all Like I think the practice facility stuff Is a little overrated Would it be nice to get one? Yeah, do we probably need one In the next 10 years? Yeah, probably But I think if I were investing money
Starting point is 00:47:57 in UK basketball, the first thing I would do is something with that door. Would you agree with that? The dorm before the practice facility. Practice facility has already had a lot of stuff done to it inside, too, just cosmetically that's helped keep it up with the times. It goes back to Trey Young when he was here, and they said it was outdated then. How many years ago was that? It was a long time ago.
Starting point is 00:48:15 I mean, the practice facility, when you get down to where the practice floor is, it's awesome. Yeah. I think everybody's issue is from the outside, the building looks old and kind of whatever. Whereas if you go to like Louisville's building or if you go to Kansas's building, it looks like UK's football practice. Like UK's football practice facility from the outside looks like a really impressive building. And then you go inside, I just took loss on there Monday. And you see like all the various stuff and they have all this interactive stuff. And it's really, really cool.
Starting point is 00:48:46 The basketball facility isn't like that. But when you get in the elevator and you go to the actual facility, it's as nice. as anybody's. But I think the problem is from the outside, it doesn't have that look. Would you agree with that? And you don't have to get too crazy with it because it's pretty unique where the guys are sleeping just across the parking lot and come over and I scan and they're on a practice court.
Starting point is 00:49:09 It's nicely designed with the coaches overlooking it. We've seen some people come in and talk about how awesome it is. I just think some of the new bells and whistles that the newer places have, you may work those in. I haven't seen completely behind doors in a while. I've always thought that, okay, so let's just say you're a regular fan. I don't it's not always unlocked but the football practice facility the front door is often unlocked to where you can walk in the lobby yeah okay so if you walk in that lobby if you were to go there today and you were to walk in that lobby it's a cool display it's all the trophies that kentucky has ever won major football trophies and they're on display there is a wall with all the all-Americans that kentucky has had play football max duffy just recently got added to the wall and that that's a wall and that That's really cool.
Starting point is 00:49:57 And then there's like this interactive display that I did with Lawson where you like you can create yourself as a UK football player. You can create the uniform, the number, the helmet, you know, your skin tone. You can create everything and you can create what you would look like as a UK football player. That's kind of cool. Basketball has nothing like that. One of those shames right now of UK basketball is an average fan, there's nothing for them to go see. Like if you're in town from Georgia and you're a UK fan and you want to see something UK basketball, there's nothing to go see.
Starting point is 00:50:32 You can walk into them. Well, you can't right now because of the construction. You can walk into that little lobby and there's like a couple of trophies and there's pictures of all the teams. But we should have something more than that, right, don't you think? Yeah, before the construction, all you had, like you said, was just that hallway. You could walk in. There's just a mural there of players. That was it.
Starting point is 00:50:51 the only cool thing is they have a picture up of every team. And I always enjoyed going back and looking at the team photos of every team and going, oh, there's that person or that person. But that's really all they had. Even over to Kentucky Proud Park, the baseball, they've got a neat little foyer that if you go in, it's kind of got some neat things. Well, the baseball stadium has a really cool thing in it, which has been there since it opened, that each pillar is a county in Kentucky, and it lists all the players from that county that have played at UK baseball. Yep, that's cool. That's very cool. Basketball needs something like that, Drew,
Starting point is 00:51:25 because we just don't really have it, and with such tradition, we should. And really, you get on a bigger scale, there's really no place to see any of the history of UK. No. Just a lobby. I've been to Kansas. Most of it is in the heavy hitters garage.
Starting point is 00:51:39 I've been to the fog three times, and they have a museum attached to it that's there. It's open, you know, like eight to five every day, where you go in, and if there's anything, Kansas basketball, you're going to see it, and it's just open to the public. I do hear a lot of people that, UK basketball museum that used to be downtown.
Starting point is 00:51:54 But that should have ended up being on campus. It should absolutely be there. That probably should have been on campus because, especially at that time, not many people would go downtown. Now, it's changed now. Downtown's a lot more upbeat than it used to be. And the problem is that museum, a lot of that stuff got given away. Like a lot of that stuff is gone, which is a shame.
Starting point is 00:52:17 But the UK Museum, when it closed down, they just gave a lot of it away. Wow. Which is kind of insane to me, actually.
