Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
A rep.
My mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.

play the dodgers this weekend i'm going tonight we stink but uh it'll be nice i
I've never seen Otani in person, so I'm looking forward to that.
But we got the Dodgers this weekend, and then I have been trying, Ryan, to,
I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my Reds tickets for all of them.
By the way, you better claim some if you want.
Cardinals are in Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, whatever day you want to have them.
Would you like to have them one day?
Yes, I would.
All right, fair enough.
But, yes, tonight they play the Dodgers.
Now, Kentucky baseball, as I said, is at 4 o'clock.
If Kentucky, you know, we've got stuff today, we're going to have the game on at the bar.
You're more than welcome to come watch.
If, however, we win, Saturday and Sunday, we're going to have, like, little watch parties at the bar with UK baseball.
So plan on if the cats win today.
You obviously come today, but it'll be to Friday afternoon.
But tomorrow and Sunday, we'll have watch parties.
Ryan's going to stop by on Sunday if we're in the finals.
I may actually try to come by Sunday if we're in the finals, so hopefully we'll make that happen.
You know, just the other day in game one, we had a huge crowd there for a lunch crowd.
The game's Saturday at 10, 30 in the morning.
So I think people are excited about this team.
Now we just need to go actually win the games.
A couple of notes, Morgan Spurlock.
You may remember he was the director that did that movie Super Size Me.
Do you remember that?
Oh, yeah.
Where he ate only McDonald's for every meal for 30 days.
He passed away at the age of 53.
He won an Oscar for that.
He basically only ate McDonald's every day and then showed what it did to his body over the course of those 30 days.
He passed away of complications from cancer, so it didn't have anything to do with that.
But he has a lot of good stuff if you ever watched it.
And then you told me, I just found out, Drew, that people of a certain age, some of the younger folks listening wouldn't know this name.
But there was a guy named Henry Earl.
Tell the story.
Henry Earl, at one time, maybe still, was the world's most arrested man.
I know you don't really celebrate getting arrested,
but he was a Lexington legend downtown.
Downtown James Brown.
If you went to UK at any point,
you probably had an interaction with Henry Earl,
but he passed away.
We hadn't seen him in a long time and kind of wondered,
you know, if he was even still around with us,
but he had been in a facility that had taken care of him,
had a little funeral for him.
So I know there's a lot of name recognition out there
if you lived in Lexington with Henry Earl.
Yeah, he was even one on with the big talk shows.
Letterman or Leno.
Yeah, if you were on the internet, 2004 to 2000,
2014. Everybody knew Henry O'Hare.
Everybody's got a Henry O'Reill story.
There would be all these stories about he was the most arrested guy.
And then, yeah, I think Letterman did something about him once.
So anyway, rest in peace to the families of both of those people.
All right, real quick, let's talk about the settlement.
It was approved by all the conferences.
So now all the conferences have approved the House settlement.
Again, its House is the name of the plaintiff.
It's not the House of Representatives.
But here, as we've talked about, the basics of it are now.
The next step is a judge has to approve it.
And let me just say, that's not a slam dunk.
And the reason is boring.
But basically, the plaintiffs are going to have to approve to a judge,
that this money they have for past athletes,
that they have the ability to get them that money.
Specifically, they're going to have to show that they have a way to get in contact
with everybody that played D1 sports in order to give them their part of the check.
And that's not necessarily going to be easy.
And so I don't know what their plan is.
If they are able to show that, then I think it'll get approved.
And it'll set up for college athletes to be paid directly by the school
for the first time in the history of college sports.
It will not start this fall.
They hope it to start in fall of 2025, but it might go to fall of 2026.
But it will probably, it will not be this year.
And it would create a fund where teams can spend up to $22 million on athletes.
And it will be revenue share with their TV deals.
Now, schools can spend less.
I think a lot of schools will spend less, probably all, not.
Power 5 will spend less, and maybe a lot of the power fives won't, like a Vandy, for instance,
Shannon may choose not to.
But it is the amount of money for all of their sports.
And each school will get to decide.
What are we putting towards football?
What are we putting towards basketball?
Baseball, volleyball, women's basketball, they'll get to decide.
The collectives can go over that if they want, but the school will have the
hello there, my parents.
The school will have the $22 million.
So there are still questions to be resolved.
The main one being Title IX.
I think there's a good argument that Title IX won't apply,
but I'm sure people will try to get it too,
so we've got to know what percentage will go to female athletes.
But either way, it's a massive, massive, massive change to sports,
to college sports.
And it's going to revolutionize it.
It's going to clean it up a little bit because every deal given to a player will now be public
knowledge.
It will have to be released.
So you will know how much each player is going to get.
I've been talking about it for a week.
It's now, I knew it was a big deal when I saw a New York Times alert about it.
Like now people are starting to process it.
But, Ryan, it's going to be a completely.
different notion of what college sports is.
Somebody asked me a question last night after hearing you talk about it yesterday.
Will athletes basically have to sign a contract?
So what athletes will do, let's say you're in high school, sir.
When you come to Kentucky, if you come to play at Kentucky, you will have the option.
Kentucky will say we will give you $100,000 to play for us.
You will have the option to take that money.
but if you take it, Kentucky now owns your media rights for that year.
So they can put you in a commercial, okay?
Now, you could say to Kentucky, you give me $50,000,
and I get to keep half my media rights.
I mean, there's a lot of different ways you can do it.
But they will then be able to use you in ads.
So you can decide to opt out.
But if you opt out, then you're going to have to do it your money.
yourself and my assumption is going to be that there are only going to be a handful of players
for who that really would make sense pretty much your whole football team what these players
have found out is when they go on the open market to try to get ads it's hard if you're not
read shepherd and you're not you're not getting a lot of ads yeah so I think most of them
are going to agree to it but in so doing it they are giving up their ability to go out and
sell ads during those few months.
It makes sense, and it's a lot of athletes, like you said, what about the superstars?
I think the superstars, some of them will opt out.
Some of them, if you have a lawyer that can go get you ads, I think you will see superstars
opt out.
But I think the average, I'd say 98% of college athletes will do it.
Now, I've had a lot of questions about people asking me, if you're a former athlete,
we may have some former D-1 athletes in the crowd right now.
at some point they will set up a website that will say if you're a former D1 athlete, make your claim.
What I've read is if you've played major college football like at Kentucky or major college basketball like at Kentucky,
you could get anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000 as part of this.
Now, if you played at a small school, it might be $50.
It might be $100.
And if you played a secondary sport, it might be $3.
All right.
But there is going to be, for some people listening, if you were an athlete at Kentucky,
and part of it will be a formula based on how much were you on TV when you were there?
Like, there's a lot that comes into it, but you will have a chance to get money.
So what I read is it goes back retroactively 10 years.
Can it go back farther than that?
Or is it only 10 years?
The complicated thing is basically 20 years.
years. And the reason being they don't have a concrete way to figure out who played before that
everywhere. There's some assumption that players older than 20 years will be taken care of,
but let's be real. The money wasn't as big back then. So the money back then is so small
for a lot of them. Like, you know, how much money did Kentucky make on their national TV deal
in 1973? They only had like three games on television.
television. So really, this is like 1990 up to now. Before that, you might get something,
but it won't be much. Does that make sense? Yeah, yeah. It's just going to be a lot for them to
dig through and then try to decide, like, okay, who gets what. That's why a judge is going to have
to decide whether or not these, they're going to look at these plaintiff lawyers and go,
are you going to be able to do this? Because we're not going to prove it. Yeah. Unless you can't.
from what I understand, then the hope is the NCAA goes to Congress and says, look,
we've now paid everybody, help us make rules going forward.
And the assumption is there's been some talk that the NCAA has gotten sort of a wink
and a nod from congressional leaders that if they would settle this case and pay former athletes,
that they would help them set up rules for the future.
So that's, I think, the mindset of what's going to happen.
monumental changes.
Like you said, when we get ready to start the season next year, it could be completely different,
completely different outlook.
A lot of you are probably thinking, I think this is a bad idea.
I don't know why they're doing it.
Whether it's a good idea or bad idea, let me explain to you why they're doing it.
If this had gone to trial and they had lost, they might have bankrupted college sports
because there's a good chance that what the NCAA had done the last 75 years is illegal.
It's amazing to me that they haven't sued before.
It's a good chance it was probably illegal.
And if they really calculated the damages and told the NCAA they had to pay $25 billion,
they don't have it.
They don't have it.
And then I don't know what would happen.
So, Ryan, I think the league, I think the NCAA and these conferences,
They had no choice but to do this.
You asked the question, do you think, is this a good thing?
Is this positive for sports?
NCA sports?
Yeah, but it's going to be really bumpy the next couple years.
And I'll say this.
If you're a person out there that's got a kid that's like a junior in high school,
go celebrate tonight.
Because your kid is going to get the best college experience anybody's ever had.
Because they're going to, for the first time, actually make,
real money in a way that others really didn't.
Can I go like adopt a junior somewhere?
I got one you can adopt.
Oh, that's right.
Look at you.
Look at Rich.
Ryan Living now has.
Raveny trained.
You should get Wesley it up for a couple bucks too.
You played sports there.
So anyway, look, I mean, I'm giving you the most simplistic view.
It's, I'm sure, much more complicated than I even realize.
And it's going to evolve.
but the day the judge approves this,
and by the way, I'm not certain the judge is going to approve it,
but the day they approve it, in my opinion, will be.
And I thought a lot about this last night.
I think it's the most important day for the future of college sports
since they integrated the sports.
Wow.
In terms of what it's going to,
I don't think anything will have happened
that will have a greater impact on the sport
since the day that these colleges decided to actually integrate.
I'm interested to see how we as fans kind of consume it a little bit.
Like when I'm watching my pro team, I know, now we spend a lot on our receiver
and we need a left tackle.
And you're kind of looking at the team budget and what you need and the free agency.
We'll get to kind of that point with sports where we're knowing what guys are making
and what weaknesses you have because you're paying this guy on this.
You want to know my honest, please?
Yes.
I mean, that's the downside is we're going to know what all these kids make.
and they're going to be pro athletes now.
And like, they're going to be treated as such.
For better or worse, Shannon, that's going to happen.
Once you know that somebody's making money, like, people are going to look at it differently.
They just are.
And if I'm a star coming in, I know what this guy over here made.
You can now use that as negotiating and leverage at that point.
There's going to be, so that part of it, I think, is going to be really, really big.
Cornbreadhemp.com, if you, by the way, this is a completely separate thing,
But Congress is considering, I don't think they'll do it, but it was considering a bill to ban the hemp, which would be a terrible decision after we've done it.
But they did actually consider it. Cornbreadhimp.com, promo code is KSR, full spectrum flower only hemp CBD.
30% off if you use a promo code KSR, you can take the gummies to help you sleep, relax, etc.
It's cornbread hemp, a Kentucky company, cornbreadhemp.com.

If you're going to look at stats and numbers,

Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287.
We've had some people waiting on hold, so I want to give them a chance to get in.
Who's up first?
They're Rick.
Got Joseph up first.
Joseph, go ahead, Joseph.
Hey, Matt, yesterday you said we'll be seven and five.
I'll put us at nine and three, winning all our non-conference games,
and then winning against Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Florida, Auburn, and South Carolina.
We're too talented to be seven and five.
This year we'll have no excuse this year.
But now we will have excuses, which is that we play a hard schedule.
But what you laid out is not impossible.
I mean, nine and three is, I appreciate the call.
It's not impossible, Drew.
It's, it's, there's no reason you can't do that, but you can't make an excuse, like, you can't make a mistake.
Because if you, the only other teams we play will all be top 10 besides those nine.
So if you want to go nine and three, like you cannot drop any close game.
That's why that South Carolina went so important in week two on national TV, our first ever ABC game.
And then I don't know which one will be.
Some of those games you have to win.
Last year, Missouri ended up being good.
Remember Kentucky was up so big in that.
Shouldn't have lost that.
You can't have a game where you lose one that you were supposed to win,
and that really throws you off your schedule.
You've got to win all the toss-ups, basically.
I mean, I think at Florida is probably a toss-up.
At Auburn, we're going to be favored, but they could beat you.
They come to us.
They come to us.
Or, excuse me, Auburn at home, we're going to be favored,
but they could beat you.
At Ole Miss, they're going to be favored,
but we could beat them.
You've got to win all those if you want to go nine and three.
You know, the Ole Miss game last year was down there.
Kentucky had the game won.
They took Dane's touchdown off the board, and they called that illegal motion or whatever, right before snap count.
They had that game won, so they can go down there and win it.
If they're going to sneak one, that might be it.
Will got hurt, too.
I mean, it was two years ago.
Will got hurt.
If he doesn't get hurt, I think they can win that game.
But you got to handle Louisville at home?
They're going to take a step forward.
Well, listen, Louisville's going to be good.
And we, I mean, we beat them last year, but, you know, they went 10 and two.
I mean, we beat them, but they weren't bad.
So, Shannon, I think I am 100% certain our team's going to be better than it was last year.
But I don't, I do think the schedule is a lot hard.
Yeah, and then you throw in Oklahoma and Texas coming into the SEC.
It's not going to make anything.
And you play one of them.
You go to Texas.
Not going to make anything easier moving forward.
So, yeah, you could be seven and five and still have a good season.
And you get Texas where the programs, that Texas is in a better program spot than they've been in 15 years.
Absolutely.
You know, there was a lot of times in the last 15.
years you could have played Texas and been all right but now Texas is really good they just made the
playoff and they've got I think preseason number three or something in a lot of polls yeah the
official polls haven't come out they'll come out later in the summer but all the early rankings and
the people looking ahead early Texas is right up there with with Georgia in the top three
depending which ones you're looking at so but remember with that schedule if you go nine and three
you have a shot of the playoffs yes sir you have a shot you might I mean you will be
right on the bubble of the
playoff if you were to go 9 and 3 with that
with that schedule who's next
got jay up next
jay go ahead jay
hey man i hope you have a good trip
i'm actually going to be in europe part of the time
you're there so it'd be kind of ironic if i'm the UK
fan you run into
that would be that would be different yeah
hey i i could make this call every year
you need to do this before you leave
summer book recommendations from madgey have a lot
i will do that uh i'll try to put it on my
Instagram. I have
read a bunch and I've got some I'm taking
so I will do that for you, Jay.
Be good. Appreciate the call.
What are your summer book recommendations,
Ryan? Well, we're still
compiling the list a little bit.
You know, I've got Rex Chapman's book
that I've had for a couple months and haven't opened it yet.
I'll probably try to finish that one. That'll be number one.
I saw you post on KS
KS Board about Jerry Tipton's book.
You did like a little book club. I'm not trying to be the
publicity agent for that, but I
finished it, I thought it was a really good book. I did. I had to take a little break.
Got busy the last few weeks, but I'm actually looking forward to having some downtime to finish
it. I'm probably halfway through it, and I've really enjoyed that one. I still got to finish
Goose's book, too. I'm in a little bit of a UK read going on. Yeah, there's definitely a UK book.
I've got it reading those at the same time, which is a little weird, kind of the same subject matter,
but I'm hoping to knock both those out soon. Yeah, they're both very, they're both very,
they're both very good. I still haven't done Rex's. Maybe I'll take that one with me. Who's next?
Dwayne is up next
Dwayne, go ahead, Dwayne
Come on in
Hey guys, what's up?
He's in the little box there
I've got two questions for you real quick
The first one is
I haven't heard the same thing
About how Eastern Kentucky
Failure is going to be navigating the streets
of Europe lately
Well, I've done it before
I've been there, I think I should be okay
And you know, somebody was in the restroom and said
You know, be careful and I really appreciate that
But you know, you can get in trouble
anywhere. You know, there's
certain, you know, there's certain
parts of, I don't care what, it's like when people
tell me New York and all that, like,
every place can be dangerous if you're in the
wrong place doing the wrong thing. So like
I, I, I hopefully
everything will go well,
but I'll be safe, but thank you.
So you've not been
the practicing driving the seat.
Well, but I actually
found an automatic.
I specifically,
I specifically send an email and was like, I'm not, I can't
drive a stick and they said we have one automatic we'll save it for you so i said all right good
my other question my other question is pertaining to kentucky baseball so uh you know i'm
like a lot of other people you know kind of jumped on the bagels van wagon this year because of
the exposure they're getting and the space they've had so it's uncharted territory to know
what kind of the road looks like to the world series so can you elaborate on that or do you know
somebody. Yeah, so that's a good question. There's a lot of people, Ryan, that may not know how the
baseball playoffs work because we're not in them a lot. So 64 teams starts as a, they put them in four
groups of 16, and it's a double elimination tournament. So Kentucky, I'm going to read you,
this is the D1 baseball projection. So this is what Kentucky would have to do. They would host
San Diego, Illinois, and Sacred Heart. That's the projection. Those teams would come to Lexington. They'd
play Sacred Heart first, double elimination.
If they win, then they would play the winner out of, in this projection, the East Carolina, Duke,
UNC Wilmington High Point Pod, whoever won that, you would play them in a best two out
of three game series in Lexington.
You win that, you go to the College World Series.
So this projection would say Kentucky would need to be better than San Diego, Illinois, Sacred Heart,
Duke, East Carolina, UNC Wilmington, and High Point.
And that starts a week from today, right?
It's Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and then Monday.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, but it'll be one of those days, and they will all be in Lexington.
So next weekend you will have Railbird, Shannon, and you will have that regional for Kentucky baseball.
It's going on.
And based off those teams that you read there, it would be an upset of Kentucky didn't make it to the color.
Can you imagine Kentucky versus Duke three-game series,
Lexington. The winner goes to the college world series. Drew, how much fun that would be?
I wanted. I'm imagining it right now. I can't wait for postseason baseball in that stadium.
It was so fun last year, just having one weekend. I'm excited to hopefully get two and
punch that ticket to Omaha. It's going to be a great atmosphere over there.
I think next weekend, and then if they make it the next weekend.
Has Kentucky Baseball ever hosted a sub-regional?
Super, no. Super regional? I don't think so.
I don't think they have. So in two weeks, if they get into that, that'll be an
unprecedented environment there in Lexington that we've never really ever seen here before
for Kentucky baseball. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue of 42.
Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.

The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team.

Got to throw something out to you, Mark's story at the herald leader, which Ryan's going to start subscribing to now, at least for the next two months.
Yep.
Mark's story wrote an interesting article.
He said, most people think the problem for Caliperi were two teams, St. Peters and Oakland.
He said, let me say, I'm going to say I think it's two different teams that ultimately hurt John Calapary's legacy at Kentucky.
Since I don't think any of you read it, how about a guess as to what two teams that Mark's story believes instead of St. Peter's and Oakland are the biggest culprits?
One of them you might get, one of them I guarantee you you won't get.
I would say Tennessee would be my first guess.
Tennessee was not one of them.
I will say Alabama.
Alabama was not one of them.
Wisconsin's a good guess, but that was not one.
Here's what his argument was.
One seems pretty easy.
Yukon.
He basically said the fact that Yukon beat us in 2011
and then beat us in 2014 in the championship game,
Bob, we're on the radio.
You do it.
You knew he's going to do it.
And look, he's not, Bob, we are on the radio.
You can't take calls in the middle of the thing.
It's every time.
You called it.
You did call it.
Yukon in 2011 and 2014.
And then his other argument was LSU because he said we would have won the SEC title two different years
if LSU did not beat us on a buzzer beater.
which I didn't realize we lost to them in 2019 and this year on a buzzer beater both times that kept us from winning the SEC
and his premise was if you just flip those results Cala Perry has two national titles potentially a third
and he has two SEC titles in the last four seasons and his record looks a lot different
if he could have just flipped the Yukon and LSU results what he did you do you do not you?
you think of that i definitely by the yukon you know you win both of those his legacy is a lot different he's
got three national titles to come on come around with the ls uxu one kind of surprises me but he makes a good
he makes a good point which is we've brought up a lot we never won the cc we never won the SEC
we never won the SEC tournament but twice we would have won the SEC if we could have just guarded a buzzer beater
yeah i'm thinking uh the one at home wasn't that like a controversial goal yeah goaltending
They changed the rule after that.
They changed the rule after that.
And then the one was this year, right?
Where we didn't, where we didn't, what was it?
They ran in a, what was it?
Well, we hit a big shot to tie it to maybe force overtime, and then they threw in a kind of a prayer on the other end.
Yeah.
Revisionist history is always fascinating to go back and say, what if, you know, if we win this game,
all of a sudden now we look back at the Calipari era with a different opinion if he wins the SEC two out of four years.
I've talked about this for 12 years.
When you're judging college basketball,
basketball coaches. There's a lot of good coaches who've won one. But you are hard
pressed to name a great coach historically that is not one at least two. And I think for
Cala Perry, if he were to win two, it's a completely different conversation about him than if you
win one. And the line for him between two is super thin. It's not
holding the ball against Wisconsin, and it's finding a way to beat Yukon in 20.
I mean, you win either of those.
We look at that whole thing differently because right now, think in your mind,
who are the greatest college basketball coaches of all time?
Whoever you're thinking of has won two titles.
Cal doesn't have it.
He doesn't have the second one.
And Drew, I do think that makes a difference.
Well, if we're just talking specific to Cal, you can add his Memphis title that they choked away
too. I mean, you just hit a free throw or foul before a three-pointer, and he came to Kentucky
with the title. But at the same time, when you play this game, you can also do, if James Young
doesn't forget the play and throwing a prayer, you're out of the tournament that we'll remember
forever where they make the final game. It's just further proves that the success can just be
the ball bouncing fraction in either direction. One of the things that's always fascinated me
my entire life is how the line between success and failure in every aspect of life can be paper,
paper thing.
I tell this story a lot, but I think about it when I'm down this way.
You know, I interviewed for a job to be an assistant U.S. attorney in London, and I thought
I was going to get it.
The judge, Gregory Van Taitenhove, was the U.A. was the U.S. attorney.
and I left that room thinking I was going to get it.
He ends up getting his last interview out of like 15 was a woman
that he decides to pick over me.
At the time, I thought it was the greatest failure.
Like, I was bummed because I wanted to be like my mom and be a prosecutor,
and I wanted to do that.
Well, if I do that, I never start KSR
because they wouldn't have let me do it as an AUSA.
and I was kind of bummed about it, and I was like, well, what am I going to do instead?
And I started a blog as a hobby that then became my career and my life.
And if I get that job, I never do it.
Well, a razor-thin margin between two completely different lives that I had no control over.
Gregory Van Taitenhove made that decision.
and I have since thanked him for it many times.
Well, John Calipari has one play against Wisconsin
where he tells him to hold the ball.
And Andrew Harrison sits there and pounds the ball,
and then I think he dribbled it off his foot or something like that.
Several shot-clothed violations.
Right?
From dribbling.
If he lets him play,
we might have had the first undefeated season since 1975,
and we look at his legacy completely.
Legacy is completely different.
That whole, that 2014,
going to the championship game, the 2015 undefeated team.
If Luke May misses a shot, the Fox Bump Man team probably won a title.
So it is interesting to me how that works.
And I thought Mark's story bringing up two buzzer beaters against LSU,
the games we don't even remember.
Yeah.
May have completely made us look at that differently as well.
Who's next?
JD is up next.
JD, what's up?
Hey, Matt, with private equity moving into college athletics,
what's to stop them from saying, you know,
getting a piece of revenue and doesn't it effectively make them to some degree a shareholder
and give them sale their kind unprofitable programs, et cetera, sir?
Yes, yes and yes.
I mean, now, private equity can't take over a college sports program because of state laws.
You can't do that.
So they wouldn't be able to do what private equity can do in normal businesses,
which is say if you don't make money, we take over.
But do I believe that if private equity,
equity gets involved in college sports, which it will, that it will change who makes decisions?
Yes. Nobody's going to give. So let's use, I appreciate the call, let's use the University of Louisville's an example.
Wouldn't you say Louisville was going to want to compete with Kentucky and everything?
Of course.
They're going to want to start at exact same $22 million. But they're getting half as much money a year as we are.
So they've got to find a way to make up that gap. And if they go to private equity and say,
to us, Shannon, if you're a company and you give the University of Louisville $50 million,
you think you're going to ask them to do some stuff you asked for?
Yes, I'm going to expect some results.
And you're also going to say, hey, before you hire a coach,
we've got to get in the game.
So I think, Ryan, that's likely to come as well.
And that's where, you know, we talked about the smaller schools,
and maybe some big donor donate all that money,
they better get something in return.
So what is that return going to be?
Is it going to be wins?
Private equity is a whole other thing.
I mean, private equity is people,
it's not just like you have to be like,
make, you know, your biggest donor happy.
You have to make a company happy.
I don't think Kentucky will have to do that,
but Louisville probably will.
Louisville is probably going to have to bring on
some sort of private equity to give them money.
Like we'll ever get to where.
like, you know, they're just pimping out even more ads during games.
The NBA's got logos on their jerseys.
We'll still even have to resort to that to find some extra money.
They could.
Who's up next?
Evan is up next.
Evan, go ahead, Evan.
Hey, guys.
Happy Friday.
Got a couple things for it, then I'll get you out of here.
First, with this new salary cap model that we're going into,
I'm kind of curious.
I mean, people in college sports are always going to try to cheat to
get an advantage. How will the NCAA or whatever entity is going to be over this? How are they
going to go about policing the salary cap and trying to prevent, you know, under the table?
Well, it'll be a part. The reason, the way they'll police the salary cap, I'll answer that part
first. The way they'll police the salary cap is it's public record. And so they will have to,
by state law, put every single amount of money, just like you can look up today how much
every professor at UK makes, you will be able to, in a registry, see what every player at UK makes.
Now, how can they cheat?
They can, the way you've always cheated, right?
But in terms of the actual official money in the salary cap, they will have to release that.
And schools, they're not going to risk violating federal law to give people extra money
through the school. The extra money would come
probably through collectives or something like that.
Gotcha. Okay. All right.
And then second. What's your other question?
Fun little summer radio question
for you. Give me some of your favorite
Tom Leach calls for
both football and basketball.
Touchdown, Kentucky.
Just the general touchdown.
Yeah. It's his catchphrase.
That's a good question. I appreciate the call. Can you think of one
specifically? I've got, there's a good
story where he was on the plane with the football team and they had a rough flight and they had to
bounce on her down and let some turbulence and they land and everybody's like quiet and he hollers out real
loud touchdown Kentucky is that a true story true story when did that happen in the last 10 years
huh I never heard that before have you had you ever heard that I hadn't heard that one that may be his
best call I'm trying to remember what he says I'm my mind's blank right now but the brandon night in
Newark was one of my, I remember listening to that radio call over and over and over, and I became
what is the game? Was it LSU and football where he just screams victory really loud and,
and, you know, I don't remember. You sit there and you think, like, of all the times he said
stuff that's made as me excited, but I can't think of one specifically that comes to my mom.
When they won the title, he had something clever, like, here's how you count to eight, three, two, one.
He did do that.
Yeah.
I keep running through the ones
That's exactly what I'm
They used to run the thing on the pregame show
Every time that we would hear
I like the football when where Conrad catches the pass
In Missouri where Percoro kind of interrupts them
Because Leach wasn't ready to call it a touchdown
Pecoro was like, I didn't need a signal
Yeah, that's right
There's one when you used to call the athletic office
It'd be on the whole music you would hear some of Tom's calls
And of course you'd hear that one every time like
Prince from the logo
Yes! And everybody goes crazy
I always love Pecorro and in Now Goose in basketball.
When they get so excited, they can't even let Tom finish the call.
Like Tom will be giving a call and they'll just go, yes, yes, or something like that.
Those always make me very happy.

People were giving best calls.
A lot of people drew saying, Stevie got loose, but they don't remember that isn't a Tom
Leach call.
That's actually a KSR call.
That was actually us.
A guy came up to me outside of the stadium.
got a guy named Brooks.
Mayor came up to me outside of the stadium
after he did that and said
Stevie got loose and we just
started saying it and it's now become
what everybody says. It's probably the first thing
that KSR ever did that had any like
impact at all and it
wasn't even me that came up with it. It was Brooks
but now that's become the
Stevie got loose game. I can only imagine
it's probably a little bourbon behind that
call as well if it was been made in the park of time.
It's an all-time
so shout out to Brooks Mayor. You
created a call that was so good. People think Tom Leach did it.
That's right. Yeah. Tom Leach's getting the credit for that.
That's right. All right. So I'll be gone until the start of August.
Let's talk about what the schedule will be. Mondays will be Myr and Metcalf with these fellas.
He won't be this Monday because it's Memorial Day. We're going to run the show the day after Cal left on Monday.
So you'll get to hear what it was like as we were processing Cal leaving. We're running that Monday.
most Mondays, though, will be miring in these guys.
Tuesday will be these guys, and Mario's going to join them on Tuesdays.
Wednesday will be Tom Hart and these guys.
Thursday will be these guys and Billy, who will join on Thursdays.
And on Friday, we have guest hosts the entire month.
They are now booked.
It includes, pardon my take, Alyssa Lang.
Help me out.
Who else, Billy?
Field of 68, that Jeff Goodman is going to end up probably hosting.
one of the day. He and Mark Pope get along, so I mean, he probably knows more about Mark Pope than
anybody, so we're going to have him. Who else?
To Kiles.
What?
The Rupp to No Good podcast, the Kyle's, I don't think they didn't, they didn't return our text.
Oh, they didn't?
We can't get them if they don't return our text. There's a handful of us.
Sources say? That's exactly right. We may have the football staff one of the days as well,
but those will be on Fridays, so that's the schedule.
hope everybody will tune in and support these guys.
I know you will.
And, you know, should be a fun summer with a lot of different voices.
Talk to Tom this morning.
I was going to try to get him to jump on, but he's at his daughter's high school graduation this morning.
But he's looking forward.
He'll be hosting next Wednesday.
We thought he was going to do this coming Wednesday.
He's got to get something then.
So he's like, Tom, we need you.
Where are you going to come?
We want you to host the show with us.
We also got a day of Peter Burns.
Yeah, Peter Burns will do it one day as well.
So a lot of these people are preparing specific guests for this, so it should be good.
Also, if you get a chance when I'm gone, go visit KS. Bar.
My man, Ryan Lemon's been put in charge of getting business and support out there.
So if you get a chance in Lexington, come by and see them, and the baseball games are this weekend,
and we'll be, of course, hopefully, over the next two or three weekends.
Hopefully, have a lot of watch parties.
That means they keep winning and making a big move to the College World Series.
So a lot of watch parties come out.
All right.
All right, who's up next?
Rhonda is up next.
Rhonda, go ahead, Rhonda.
Help me.
How you doing, guys?
First time caller.
I had to chime in on your new decor.
Okay.
Are you there?
I'm still here.
I have a relic from the 98.
What do you mean a relic?
Is it like, did you dig it up or what is, what does that mean?
Now it's a memorabilia that my older brother who had.
All right.
Well, contact Ryan.
Ryan's doing that.
You can write him at Ryan Lemon, okay?
Oh, I just wanted to tell you what it was.
Okay, but I just got 20 seconds, so you got to tell me quick.
Okay.
It's a press plate from the Lexington Herald.
There was only 15 of them.
I got Scott Patchen to sign it, Turner, Cameron Mills.
Perfect.
And that's all the pictures I had on it.
If it's from the National Championship, just contact Ryan.
Okay, Rhonda?
There was only 15 of them.
Okay.
I got to go, Rhonda.
I appreciate that.
appreciate the call.
Thank you very much.
Hey, thank you to all of you who came out for the show.
I appreciate it.
I'm going to miss you over the next two months,
but I look forward to seeing you when we get back.
And when we get back, we'll be four weeks away from the start of football.
And it'll be back to another exciting year.
Ryan, Drew, Shannon.
Have a good trip, brother.
Thank you all very much.
We will see you later.
Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend.
