Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan Drew and Shannon, joined by Super Mario Maitland here for the second hour.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Mario has been helping me with my new A-Vision Glass text machine. I've seen that. He set up facial recognition. And then I said, how come it keeps timing out? So now? Lock screen. See, and now you've got it where it won't time out. So I can pull it up and just leave it there, right?
Starting point is 00:03:11 Yeah. Yeah. It can drain the battery, but we'll try to get it out. That's another thing. This battery cable, they're different now. Like this is like an Android end on one end than an iPhone end on the other end. Yeah, every so-and-so a few years, they changed it. I know the older ones they have it.
Starting point is 00:03:29 They changed the USB cable to it. Well, I don't have a block for this to go in. We'll get it figured out. Shannon, this is the kind of stuff that I'm worried about. No, can I plug up my phone and then plug it into this phone? Will it charge it? No. Who would have thought that an iPhone would be Ryan Lemon's arch nemesis?
Starting point is 00:03:47 We cannot figure it out. We're going to need one more lunch meeting with Matt before he gets on that flight to Rome. Really some good questions, though. I saw a lot of them during the breaks. We'll just go through just a couple of them real quick. On the new A-Vision Glass text machine, which is 502, 735-3680. By the way, shout out to Alan Anderson and his daughter, Brady. They were the brainchild behind coming up with a brand-new text machine.
Starting point is 00:04:10 It's going to be very helpful. Matt's off. Okay. You'll get the hang of it right about the time Matt lands back from his 10 weeks. Probably so. Two months. What's the latest scoop on basketball recruiting? Anything on Jackson Robinson or anything?
Starting point is 00:04:22 The deadline is Wednesday. So Wednesday at 1159 p.m. That's when he has to pull out of. the draft or not. He and everyone else. So the waiting game is almost over for all of them. There's already been some moves. Some guys coming back to other schools. You're hearing some
Starting point is 00:04:39 recruiting some names. They're on the fringe. But by Thursday we'll have the crystal clear picture, or at least who's back in college. You might not have a commitment on Thursday. But hopefully Jackson Robinson is heading back to school for Kentucky's purposes and everyone else. We'll know everyone by the... If you had to make a prediction,
Starting point is 00:04:55 what do you predict right now? I'm still having them as a cat But I say that as a guessing prediction. It's not like I know anything that I'm keeping secret. I'm kind of with everyone else just watching the clock, waiting for him to make a move. Mario? I got to say he's – I think it's going to go similar to Antonio Reeves situation
Starting point is 00:05:14 where Antonio Reeves came back. He tested the water a little bit last season, and then he came back. I think it's going to be the same way with Jackson Robinson. Test the waters a little bit and come back. Shannon, what's your prediction? Well, I mean, he's listed. as being undrafted, so I would think that he would be leaning towards coming back,
Starting point is 00:05:32 and if he comes back to college, I think he ends up in Kentucky from everything that we've read so far. So I think it's good news for Kentucky fans selfishly. I think that he'll be a cap probably by hopefully Thursday, right? I don't think we've been on the air since Chaslin Air picked Tennessee, right? That's true. Had a long three-day weekend. Some of the old news is still new news to the radio show.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Yeah, that didn't come official until like Friday afternoon. You're right. So he officially became a volunteer. Yeah, I made it that moment. moment we pretty much I mean there's the Will Rowley kid that could reclass there's a few other options but pretty much went all in on Robinson when Lanier picked the valls he made that official now we will pretend that we never wanted Chas Lanier I might even act like I've named heard of the guy he is now on the enemy side but he's he's from Tennessee he's from
Starting point is 00:06:16 Nashville area he stayed home to be of all that dang rock in that cookie shop all right here's from another a vision glass text machine question this is a good one the story of Adolf Rup and Bear Bryant being here and having to choose between keeping one of the other. If you could go back in time and change the decision, would you? Would you trade the UK basketball success and prestige for Bama's football? No, I would not. Also, that's not guaranteed that we would just become Alabama if Bear stayed. So I like the way we went.
Starting point is 00:06:50 It would have been nice to have both, but I wouldn't flip it the other way if I can go back in time. Mario? I got to agree with it, Drew, on this one. Yeah, Kentucky basketball, I wouldn't trade it for Alabama. I wouldn't do that. There's no guarantee if we trade with Alabama. Shannon? No, you don't.
Starting point is 00:07:09 You don't give up what you got in Kentucky basketball. I think so, blue blood with Kentucky. You know, people think of the state of Kentucky in sports, they think Kentucky basketball. I wouldn't have it any other way. Yeah, I think that's the right answer. I mean, it would be nice to have them both here for a long time, but that's the right answer. All right, and I got to talk to you guys about something. And I sent this, this is our homework assignment last night.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Yeah, Ryan sent out show topics. Yeah, what is that? Like a pre-production meeting? Like what? 24 hours in advance. I'm on the grill yesterday and getting show topics thinking, what is this? It's a holiday. Y' got to give him some credit, man.
Starting point is 00:07:42 He's putting into work. It was a compliment. I was just surprised. Before I started grilling yesterday, I thought I was sitting around. Okay, I'm going to do this right now before I forget. I figured you were bored. So this will last? How long?
Starting point is 00:07:52 Do we think we're going to get this every day, like, the night before? Or is this just like the first day? That's the real question. Well, we'll have to wait and see. But, yeah, right now I want to try to send you guys every night. I like it. So we can kind of just, you know, spitball stuff, because you may have some things you want to talk about. I sent some restaurant things yesterday.
Starting point is 00:08:09 I'm giving you a hard time, but I was also working over the grill as well with things for the summer. But carry on. So, Yoga Girl and I started watching Baby Rainier. It's on Netflix. And it was, it's like this number one show. And it was like number one. in London and it came, people in the United States started watching it. But it's really hard to watch, and it really makes you uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:08:33 And like, I'm not recommending it by any means. Do not let your children watch this show. Yeah. It's very adult, and it's very dark. But here's my question. I couldn't quit watching it. Like, I had to see it to the end, even though it made me feel so uncomfortable. So you finished it?
Starting point is 00:08:50 Yes. Oh, I had to finish it. and I felt guilty of myself that I wanted to see how this thing was going to end what was going to happen I did not so did you start watching it so crazy story I was getting my hair done and I kind of walked into it so it was already on you know on the TV while I was getting my hair done I'm like what is this like what am I watching you know and my my hair salon she was like uh this is baby reindeer you know this is the new number one Netflix series and I was okay and I'm watching it I'm watching it and it just gets stranger and stranger as we go on and and you know before you know it
Starting point is 00:09:26 you know it's time for me to go home and I was like I'm not watching that show you know I would not be watching that show no more so I saw the first episode and then a lot of people like you were like don't do it don't keep going so what I saw was a little innocent set up what we're talking like there's a there's a bartender and he like gives a woman a drink and she stalks him this is yeah I didn't get too far into it, but I don't think I'm going to continue. That part is, yeah, she stalks him, I sending him like 40,000 emails and
Starting point is 00:09:55 hundreds and hundreds of text messages and hundreds and hundreds of voicemails, but it gets really dark. I mean, it gets pretty rough. Like I said, I'm not recommending it because if, you know, you know, Mario couldn't even continue to watch it. But it came out, I think, on London
Starting point is 00:10:11 on a Tuesday, and the internet sleuth, Shannon, found her by Wednesday. They identified So they're the rule stalkers then. Well, that's true. You're right about that. Because when it comes on, it says, this is a true story. It doesn't say this is based on a true story.
Starting point is 00:10:30 It says, this is a true story. And so Internet sleuth looked her up and found her. So then she goes on Pierce Morgan and does this hour-long interview and admits that she knew him and they had talks, met five or six times. I mean, you tell she's lying. She's totally, but I watched the whole thing. I was so into it. I watched that whole interview.
Starting point is 00:10:51 So my question for you guys, is there ever been something a series you got into and you're almost embarrassed that you wanted to watch it or uncomfortable and you finished it or watched it through the end? Anything like that? I got one that comes to mind because when I read that text last night, there's another show on Netflix. I think we even talked about it on this show a little bit. The Dahmer series.
Starting point is 00:11:12 Oh, yeah. That was this man. Like I started watching it and you get so deep into it. They're like, this is really uncomfortable. I don't know that I want to finish it. It's like a train wreck. You can't turn away and not watch it.
Starting point is 00:11:23 You know, I got to admit, I'm the same way. I watched that whole thing, and it made me feel uncomfortable watching it, but you want to see how it in it. And you knew how Jeffrey Dahmer ends. You knew what was happening by that one. But you watched that one, too. Dommer was good.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Another one that we didn't talk about. It kind of gave me similar vibes to you. Just a little bit. Shannon loved you. You was good. You was good. It's a little weird. The last season wasn't too good.
Starting point is 00:11:46 they got one more season coming up on that but uh but yeah did you so did you ryan watch donmer did you watch yeah i watched it i watched all of it i watched all of you the first two seasons i didn't even watched how many seasons have been i think there's four now there's four now i've missed i guess the last two drew you got anything i don't have any that are like too dark to continue but i have some that i feel like i'm invested in i just even though i'm not liking it i just stick with it unfortunately i was going to hesitate to say it but you is on that list yeah i just I thought the last couple seasons were terrible, but I just keep watching them because I feel like I have to finish it.
Starting point is 00:12:20 And honestly, I feel like I'm attacking Shannon, but Walking Dead's the same way. I loved it. It just needed to end. I'm like, please, I just want the finale. But I keep watching it. It's almost like it's a job I have to show up for it to watch it. Like, I'm not interested.
Starting point is 00:12:34 I just want it to be over with. But I've seen enough episodes that I feel like I'm committed and have to finish it. So it's not so much things that are dark or gross. There are some shows that I just want to end and they keep going, and I keep watching. That's the problem with it being too successful. They keep ordering more series, but then eventually they run out of ideas
Starting point is 00:12:51 and they take a really good show from what it once was and just make it terrible like the Walking Dead was towards the end. Well, the thing about this one was, you know, it's true. You know, according to the author, which he actually stars in it.
Starting point is 00:13:03 The guy that was stalked also stars as himself in this baby reindeer. I didn't know that. Yeah, he wrote it. He's the star. That's him. He's a comedian. And so...
Starting point is 00:13:13 Like, what's an example? Is there any radio-friendly dark? She's stalking him. Yeah. I'll have to tell you off the air. So it's that bad, okay. Brady Anderson is sitting right here. I've got to be careful right here.
Starting point is 00:13:25 Creator of the A-Vision Glass text machine just walked in. It's working. I'm all over it, Alan. We've got it under control. 859-2802-287. That is the phone number to call him. Here's the next question. I wouldn't brag on the cat's secondary too much.
Starting point is 00:13:40 They gave up the bowl game to Clemson in their last drive by playing soft. Oh, where? I mean, the secondary certainly has issues, and the Brad White defense isn't perfect. But we're just saying they've put a lot of guys in the league and had some star power for a team that didn't have a lot of huge names at that position for a long time. And it's the last year after year, you're watching the NFL draft. Kentucky's got at least one guy being named as a corner or a safety, someone in the secondary.
Starting point is 00:14:05 It was always the Achilles heel for many years, but the last couple years, I felt like it's been the most improved part of the defense. The depth is still an issue. You know, some people don't like the kind of conservative style of play that Brad White is used for some of years. That's not against the players. No. I just, was that a text? Yeah, it's a text.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Okay, the submission there, I didn't want them to think that we're just complimenting the secondary like they're perfect. They still have a lot they can improve, but they have had an absurd amount of star power in the last five, six years. 859-2-8-7. That is the phone number if you want to call and get on board, and we'll go back to the aviation glass text machine as well. We've got Ryan, Drew, Super Mario, and Shannon. We come back on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.

And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
Starting point is 00:16:51 He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app.
Starting point is 00:17:13 Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Mario, 859-2-802-287 if you want to call and get on board. So who we got, Shannon? Let's go to PT. P-T. Go ahead, PT. Hey there, thanks for taking my call.
Starting point is 00:17:31 First of all, Mario, you're killing it. You're making a great addition to the show. And Ryan, can't believe you're doing show prep 24 hours in advance. That's amazing. You all talked about shows that were uncomfortable to watch. A recent one on Netflix is called Saltburn. It's a movie. And by the end of it, it just got weirder and weirder
Starting point is 00:17:49 and ended in a big naked dance scene that was a lot to deal with. That's normal around here. Yeah, the little bit up to it was a bit much, though. And then there's some episodes of Black Mirror. I don't know if you've ever watched that anthology series. It's kind of like a modern-day twilight zone, but dealing with technology. And they can be pretty dark.
Starting point is 00:18:09 And there's one in particular involving the Prime Minister of England and a pig that I think is hard to watch. But, yeah, those are my recommendations for things that are difficult to watch. Both the shows, though, both the movie and that show are great. I highly recommend them. All right, thank you, man. Appreciate it. Thank you. I've seen a lot of Black Mirror.
Starting point is 00:18:26 It's very dark. Is it? Kind of scary with some of the technology stuff. And I've seen Saltburn. We talked about Salt Burn on the show. I think we did one time. A listener recommended it without giving much context. And I will second that it's got some scenes that I wish.
Starting point is 00:18:39 I didn't see. But to your topic, I'll finish saltburn, even though I didn't really want to. That was a movie more than a series. That's why I wanted to ask you guys. You know, finishing baby reindeer, I felt like, oh, I'm kind of disappointed in myself that I wanted to watch all that. I don't recommend it. I'm not recommending it. There's an old centipede movie I've seen a little bit to get into that.
Starting point is 00:18:59 Shannon, I forgot. You were supposed to read one of our sponsors before we started. Well, let's say you've been watching Baby Reindeer or Dahmer or any of those other crazy series. What are you going to do? You need to be relaxed. after that, right? It'll shake you up a little bit. How about some cornbread hemp? Did you know that the same reason Kentucky has the fastest horses in the world is the same reason cornbread hemp grows the finest hemp? The limestone rock bed underneath Kentucky makes our soil rich with minerals that feed our horses and grow cornbread hemp's USDA organic hemp products. And if you've ever tried their gummies, their oils, their lotions, you'll be amazed by how much better you're going to feel how much more relaxed you'll feel with cornbread hemp. Go to cornbread hemp.com slash KSR. Put in the promo code KSR at checkout for 30% off your first order. That's cornbread
Starting point is 00:19:43 hemp.com slash KSR. promo code KSR. Thank you, Mr. Mr. Dude. We need to talk about Bill Walton. Rest and peace. Yeah, rest and peace. Age 71 after battling cancer.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Just a literally and figuratively, a larger than life figure. He was seven foot tall. And most people, you know, like I remember him as a basketball player. Most people, though, remember him as the commentator of recent years. Passed away.
Starting point is 00:20:13 It's kind of sad. I know a lot of people around here didn't like one even call. He called what? They were called one Kentucky game. Played Utah and Vegas. That's right. That's right. That's right.
Starting point is 00:20:23 Yeah. What are your thoughts about Bill Walton? Like everyone else, surprised and sadden by his passing. Look at him on TV right now as they're talking about him on ESPN. It has been a lot about his commentary. I guess more of the, what have a recency thing. I mean, an exceptional basketball player, a legend in basketball, but the commentating does come to mind,
Starting point is 00:20:43 and I think about a late night turning on a Pac-12 game only because it's him. I have no interest in either team, and I don't want to hear about the basketball. I'm thinking, well, Bill's going to be talking about something off the wall. He'd shout out, like, the restaurant he was at the night before and who he was with, how late they'd stay out. He'd be pulling out a random, like, an herb or a plant and, like, showing it off to the guy with them. I mean, that's, I understand. why if your team's playing and you're wanting to get some basketball info, you might not like that.
Starting point is 00:21:12 But I would seek out Bill Walton calling a basketball game for that reason. So I found him entertaining when he was doing that stuff, and he'll be missed for sure. Can you imagine trying to be the play-by-play guy with Bill Walt next to you? You're like dust-bopping your head on live TV as you're trying to do a game. Yeah, it took a special guy to be that play-by-play guy. To keep him on the rails. Yeah, I was telling Billy this on the pre-show. I always thought that there was some sort of, you know, ESPN dress coat.
Starting point is 00:21:38 that you had to have like maybe a suit and tie apparently that didn't apply for Bill Walton that's true but a guy that's highly entertained like I'm a Celtics fan so I love they play for the Celtics but honestly I don't remember him his playing career I just remember this crazy guy that was highly entertaining and a guy that would just go completely off the rails took a shirt off during one of the broadcast
Starting point is 00:22:00 it was almost like as I told Billy on the pre-show almost like a version of Ryan Lemon doing color commentating So rest in peace to one of the greats, though. And he claims Shannon to have gone to over 1,000 Grateful Dead concerts. I believe every bit of it. I do, too. You know, sitting there with this tie-dye shirt on, and he was a self-proclaimed hippie. One thing that's been neat is seeing all the clips people share.
Starting point is 00:22:24 I mean, you can get on Twitter type Bill Walton and spend an hour just watching clips. I didn't know he'd ever call it a baseball game. Oh, he did? From the beginning, you know he has no, nothing to add about baseball. But that's what made it so good at what I'm seeing. He's like learning the rules on the air as there's going. But, you know, if you're watching the Cubs, you might not like that as a Cubs fan. But I love every minute when he's doing that kind of stuff.
Starting point is 00:22:47 You're the youngest guy on the squad. What's your thoughts about Bill Walton? Don't know much of him in terms of when he played for the Celtics. But I do know a lot about him when he was a commentator. He's one of those guys where – or one of those commentators that you just turn on. And even if you don't know the names of who's commentating, you know, once you hear his voice, you can kind of tell it to Bill Walton talking. So, yeah, sad to see, but, you know, how it goes.
Starting point is 00:23:15 You know, he won an NBA title with the Portland Trailblazers, like in the mid-70s. I remember when he was the star and then left the Trailblazers and went to the Celtics. I was hoping there would be more Kentucky connections than that one Utah game. You know, he never played against. Is that the only game he ever called? I couldn't find it. He never played against Kentucky. they missed playing.
Starting point is 00:23:34 They played UCLA the year after he was there. But that Utah game is what we're remember him for. It's Kentucky fan. There's one point it's going viral where he's making like a wildcat, noise, a scared wildcat. It's terrible. I'll send it to Shannon to play. But I'm sure a lot of people listening remember.
Starting point is 00:23:50 Because when we had them, we were losing to Utah as a Kentucky team. So that probably added to maybe people don't like him in that moment. But there were a lot of funny moments in that one, too, looking back. That's the thing. It's your team and you got Bill Walton. You're like, oh, God, this guy again. But if you're watching it and you don't care about either team, he's the absolute best for that because how entertaining he really was.
Starting point is 00:24:12 And he goes out with the PAC 12. Yeah. Pac-12. He goes out with the PAC-12. Pack-12 is passing. He's so upset about Pac-12 dissolving. Back-12 and Bill Walton going out together. Rest in peace to both.
Starting point is 00:24:23 The other kind of player news I want to get two for you, go back to the phone line, which is 859-280-2287, DJ Wagner, after floating around there for a while, finally makes it official, picks Arkansas. He's going to go back and play for Coach Cal, run it back with Coach Cal one more time. I got it, I mean, I was a little surprised. I mean, I thought the relationship kind of soured when they were here this year. I like DJ Wagner a lot. I think he played through a lot of injuries.
Starting point is 00:24:49 I think he was in more pain than we realized last season. What are your thoughts about him going back to play for Coach Cal at Arkansas? You know, we assumed that in the beginning all along, but then some of the national people following it pulled their predictions back and made you wonder what was going on behind. the scenes but here a week after all that happened he finally does make the commitment arkansas so kind of what we expected in the beginning it's going to be interesting to have john l davis boogie flanned and dj wagner maybe you play the three together i don't know that's not
Starting point is 00:25:17 my problem to solve but that will be interesting for cow who i think we've seen has some weaknesses knowing when to use minutes with guards there but you know at the end day i think dj is going to make a big leap forward a sophomore year i would have to have a dj back i think he's going to make a big jump before a year two. And unfortunately, we'll just have to see it in the SEC when he does be coming into Rupp Arena. I hope people, we've talked about boo and Cal, and I don't think anyone with boo DJ in that group, but I hope DJ gets a nice reception when he comes back. He should.
Starting point is 00:25:46 He should. Definitely deserves it. Not really surprised that he went to Arkansas. Usually, you know, guys tend to stick with the coaches, you know, that recruited them, especially out of high school. But, yeah, I'm excited to see what he's going to do. Like Drew said, big leap, huge leap coming from. for next season.
Starting point is 00:26:02 I think he had a, I kind of say last season, you know, he didn't have the greatest season that we expected him to have, but he had some good moments. Oh, yeah. Multiple 20-point games before he got hurt. Yeah. And I think, I definitely think he's going to be one of the, I don't want to say all-American point guard next season.
Starting point is 00:26:18 I don't want to say that, but he'll be pretty close. He's got the talent. He's going to be tough to handle when Kentucky plays them. I really do think he's going to have a breakout year this year. I think I believe that also. I think it's a combination of the ankle, the weird, Rob's situation. He knows as well as anyone how good Rob.
Starting point is 00:26:35 I mean, they're going against each other in practice. He sees what Rob's doing. That and checking out four minutes every game. Had to wait on a little bit. I think he's got a big jump coming. One more from the Aviation Glass Tech Machine. Just wanted to thank you guys for mentioning Dawson Springs. I lost my mom and aunt in the one in 2021.
Starting point is 00:26:51 And this last one was a mile away from my house. Yeah, just devastating again for that community. Like you said, still trying to pick up from the one three years ago and then, bam, get hit again this weekend. I believe we spoke in 2021. I mean, they're still not over the last one. You just get hit with another one. That's not an area with a ton of money, a ton of economy going through there.
Starting point is 00:27:10 But I'm hopeful they bounced back. That's a place I've been going since I was very little over at Lake Bashir. My grandfather was big in that community. So I'm thinking a lot of them as they bounced back. KSR, man. We took one of the checks over from the fundraiser we did, gave it to the folks at Dawson Springs from the refra. You almost remembered the equipment that day.

Starting point is 00:30:08 Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. This is, without a doubt, the overwhelming choice to be the Whiskey Thief song of the day. Do you know this song at all, Mario? I've heard of it. You like it? I don't know the name of it. You like it, though, just listening to it? It's okay.
Starting point is 00:30:27 You like it a lot more, and Ryan sings it and takes the shirt off. I sing with Alice Blue Down One song and this is this one Wagon Wheel, so our Whiskey Thieves song of the day 859-2802-287 We've got us a couple of calls we're going to get to in just a second But first Drew has to tell us about court physical therapy Yes, what a great time of year

You want to do a new? There we go. Come, Mario. I got a quick question about the baseball. I know that, to me anyways, this is something new to look at. Obviously, we got the number two seed in the nation going into the tournament.
Starting point is 00:31:46 But really what I had questions about is how long do you think that we would be able to go in there? I mean, what teams like Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, all these SEC teams that are in the tournament. and then obviously the out-of-conference teams, how long do we really got? Do you think that we would be able to go to the tournament or do you think we got an early exit? I appreciate the phone call. Just me, the bracket they got, the draw they got,
Starting point is 00:32:12 there's no reason they can't make it to this year. This is the best run, the best avenue they've ever had to make it to the College World Series is right now. That's why I feel. Yeah, with the year they had winning the conference for only the second time, even though I had to share it with the stupid vols. And just the expectations for them and the draw they got.
Starting point is 00:32:33 I know there's a few complaints about Indiana State being in it, but if you're the number two overall seed and you won the SEC, you still got to beat Indiana State. You've got to beat Indiana State. So they should certainly get out of this region. If not, it's a disappointment. And then in the Super, you don't have to run into another SEC team because obviously the SEC dominates college baseball.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Five of the hosts are SEC teams in the NCAA tournament. So to answer the question, Omaha we'll see about it, but they certainly should get to the Super and get out of what's in front of them this weekend. What do you think, Mario? So I'm looking at the bracket right now. Is this the easiest road that we have to the World Series right now, or could it be? I mean, I don't know all of them to break down who's got the easiest, but if Kentucky wants to achieve what they're capable of achieving, you don't lose to Western Michigan, Indiana, State, or Illinois in Lexington when that place is going to rocking.
Starting point is 00:33:24 And, Ian, if you look ahead to the next one, you'll be walking. weekend and your number one team coming in is Oregon State. You got to think you can take care of that. You've got to play somebody good. You're going to play maybe they get upset, maybe they don't, but you're likely going to play a number one seed that just hosted somewhere. I thought it was good to not see an SEC team because they're just so special. Oregon State's very good and we don't want to look too far ahead.
Starting point is 00:33:47 But anything that doesn't have Kentucky advancing to the super is a big disappointment. Who's next, Shannon? Let's go to Lou. Lou, go ahead, Lou. Hey, just a quick comment on the Wagner to Arkansas. I think Wagner was sitting it out and the meter was going up the whole time. Cal, we got desperate. No telling how much money he offered him to get him down there.
Starting point is 00:34:11 That's just my thoughts. Thanks. Appreciate it. Well, you know, there was put out there that whatever offer an Arkansas player was going to get, Arkansas boosters were going to double it. Doesn't they say that? Double it? He didn't say that.
Starting point is 00:34:24 So if he went to USC, which I thought he was going to go with these girlfriends out there, maybe he got an offer, came back to Arkansas. Arkansas said, okay, we'll double it. You come here, and he said, yeah. I mean, maybe he played the market the way you're supposed to play it. Yeah, if they're stupid enough, just keep doubling people. Let them double away. Cal probably got him taking very good care of with NIL.
Starting point is 00:34:43 Yeah. There's also the Kenny Payne connection. Remember, I don't think he was ever really going to go to Louisville, even though that recruitment kind of got a little tight, or we were supposed to believe that. But there is a strong connection to Kenny Payne. too through Louisville. Good point. So now Kenny Payne joins that staff.
Starting point is 00:34:58 That's just another connection to Cal and keeping their bond together. I assume Cal's told them what he told them a year ago, just saying we're going to try it again without an ankle injury and a crowded back court. So if you're DJ, it all makes sense unless sometimes you believe the girlfriend outweighs all of that. Usually the girlfriend is undefeated. In this case, the Wagner-Calapari bond goes back generations. Before the girlfriend. Yeah, I don't think the girlfriend was born when DJ's dad.
Starting point is 00:35:24 dad was playing for Cal. So I think the Cowell connection won out here. What's your take on DJ? I like him. Like I said, I like, I like him in Arkansas. It's going to be tough. You know, they're definitely getting better. But I would say, you know, I just feel like he has a lot of loyalty to Cal and then Kenny Payne, of course, that definitely helps as well. Going to be interesting to see that three-guard lineup. How is that going to look? But, you know, if any, if any coach knows how to kind of maneuver the three-guard line, it's probably Cal. I have to give him that. I think he's had players with quickly, if we look back at quickly, Ashton Hagen's and Tyrese Maxie.
Starting point is 00:36:03 It's a three-guard lineup that was successful. I think, so I think Coach Cowell can make it work in some sense. It's going to be weird because we've had transfers, but they go, you know, Chusanne goes to UCLA, Charles Matthews goes to Michigan. Devin Askew went to everywhere west of the Mississippi River. But we never had to see him again. We're going to have Adut Thierro Big Z, who we had. door, I love a do also, DJ Wagner are going to walk into
Starting point is 00:36:28 Rup wearing a rival conference uniform. Yeah. That is going to be a weird dynamic next season. That's weird. That's weird. And we've talked with it. I think the three guys will get applause. I hope so.
Starting point is 00:36:40 And then Cal walks out and he gets booed. Whatever happens to him, that's on him. Not stopping anyone on that one. But the players don't deserve anything. Cal Perry just have John L. Williams. Is he the only John L. Davis? Is he the only non- Kentucky player? He's got Tennessee's big deal.
Starting point is 00:36:57 Oh, that's right. Tennessee fans, they're quick to say good. I mean, with all due respect to that guy, but I unfortunately have a lot of Vals fans in my life. Yes, you do. They don't see that as a big loss or a big gain for Fayetteville. But Cal does have three good guys. We'll see boogie pans out, but he has three big names for his back court. Who we got next, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:37:18 JP. JP, go ahead, JP. Morning, fellas, how you all doing it? Morning, JP. Well, I'm going back to the Wagner deal. I don't like this. You know, you transfer from one college to another college after a year. If I'm not wrong, they said there was one guy at a college,
Starting point is 00:37:40 and I can't think of the college right now, that is going to be 30 years old. Hailfire, that's too. Is he going to Social Security out of there? Is he growing Social Security? And worried about coach. Well, Washington, Jigger. What's his name? I don't forget him.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Well, I don't know if there's a guy that's 30 going to be playing major division one ball, but I guess there could be at a lower level. Somebody maybe went to the military and got out and then tried to go to college or something, but I don't know. I don't like to transfer. Coach Cal, I like Coach Cow.
Starting point is 00:38:14 But you've got to remember, Coach Cal can't coach. He is not a coach. He lost the Wisconsin game for us because he wanted to put Harrison Twins back in and say thank you for him. I was on the 16th row up there, crossed from them, and it was obvious they couldn't have hit a bull in the rear with the face dittle. But anyway, I'm going to catch all the way.
Starting point is 00:38:37 And, you know, Arkansas, suck him hogs. Okay. There we go. He was doing good until then. Did you have to drop that Shannon? I mean, I can. You want me to? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:38:48 Your call. All right. There's the buzzer act. It was the buzzer. It was the buzzer. With a substitute teacher, we can do whatever we want. There's a lot going on there. There's a lot going on that call.
Starting point is 00:38:59 I don't think we can stop the transfer portal. It's here to stay. As of right now, it's just a Wild Wild West. And I thought he was going to say, there's a guy on some team that played in four teams in four years. Well, we had one of those guys last year. And Trey Williams. Trey Mitchell Williams. We had one guy.
Starting point is 00:39:14 Trey Williams. Still a year later, Trey William. Trey Mitchell Williams. Yeah, he mentioned a 30-year-old. I looked up because I remember there being a really old guy. There was a 28-year-old. year. That's not too far off of 30, which is pretty crazy. A weird exception there. But 30 years old, I don't believe there's one of those
Starting point is 00:39:30 run around the court next season. 859-280-2-8-7. That's our phone number. If you want to call and get on board for our last segment, we'll take your phone calls. Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Mario. Before we go to the break, I do want to say just one, if you give me one quick dad moment. Can I have a dad moment? Oh, I know this. No, have as much as you need on this dad moment. To me, as a dad, it's pretty cool that your son's first first. The first offer comes from your old school. You know?
Starting point is 00:39:57 Go ahead announce it. People don't know yet. So he went to camp at Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday night. After our show in Somerset, I had to drive to Somerset and back, pick him up, and drive to Owensboro to camp. And they offered him after the camp. Were you surprised? We were shocked. He had no idea, you know, because usually some of these offers don't come to all after the season, you know.
Starting point is 00:40:16 So I just give me just a moment for that dad moment. It's pretty cool to me that his first offer came from my. school you know yeah I was sitting there at the football stadium on campus and talking some of my Bubba Kramer he and I played together there and just talk about the old days so it's it's pretty cool and hopefully it's very cool congratulations to Josiah a on just his first offer whether it had been anywhere on the planet getting an offer's a big deal but for it to be Wesleyan I know you are thrilled I can only imagine you tried to commit on the spot and he had
Starting point is 00:40:47 to hold you back and say dad I still have a whole other year of high school left as As soon as I saw that on Twitter, I immediately thought, congrats to Josiah and congrats to you. Shout out to my son. Yeah. So did you want him to commit? I would. Come on, do it right now.
Starting point is 00:41:02 Tell him, yes. Right now. We're coming. We'll live over in Kendall Hall like I did for two years. We'll take our break. Come back our final segment, 859-280-2287. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back.
Starting point is 00:41:15 Final segment, Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Super Mario. We got one more sponsor to talk about Shannon. Who is it? draft kings you know last night my boston seltics closed out the sweep over the pacer's i thought here's what i did ryan though on draft kings i go look the pacers are going to at least get one game so i thought that's going to be the safest bet i can make right well of course not i got it wrong lost money last night but at least the seltic swept they're in the finals and then the mabs

Starting point is 00:42:15 Yeah, so Shannon Celtics sweep my Pacers. Very disappointed. I forgot you were a Pacers fan. Sorry about that. You guys couldn't get one. You couldn't be bothered to win one game out of seven. Well, they blew game one. They had game one.
Starting point is 00:42:29 They blew it last night. Six turnovers in six minutes. Without Halliburton didn't play and almost still should have won. So now the Mavericks have a chance to sweep the wolves tonight, right? It's 3-0 going into tonight, right? That's right. Yeah, both series could be sweeps. We leave an eight-day gap, but both series that shouldn't be this way.
Starting point is 00:42:47 Pacers have blown a couple. Yeah. The wolves have been in every game. game and just haven't come out on top, but tonight it could make it two in a row early sweeps. A Vision Glass Tech Machine has another question for you. By the way, I'm charging it right now. Yeah, can we talk about this before you get to your question? Ladies and gentlemen that are listening to KSR right now, this is radio, so I can't give you a visual. But Ryan somehow took a cord and hooked his iPhone up to his Android.
Starting point is 00:43:12 There's no power source. There's just one cord, and on each end is a phone, and you were charging your iPhone off. phone off your droid without realizing that is just draining your droid. It doesn't matter. I didn't want the aviation glass tech machine phone to die during the show and it was about to die. I know, but it's 1151 and you have a whole day ahead of you and your phone phone is, is it now dead? No, it's still, see, it's still up. It's at 17%. But I just, I can't believe you hooked two phones up together.
Starting point is 00:43:40 It worked. That's the sacrifice. That's the dedication Ryan has to the show. That's right, Shannon. And his own personal battery on his own personal phone. Preach it. For the sake of the A-Vision Glass Text Machine. Mario, have you ever seen anything like this?
Starting point is 00:43:52 I didn't know you could do that. Well, now, see, I'm learning you. Also, Alan and Brady are here with us now, and they tell me you were given this on Friday to spend the weekend to learn things like how to charge, set it up, how to open and facial recognition, pass at all of that. You've had this since Friday, and you open the box at 9.59. When I sat down and pull the show. He spends the entire weekend watching baby reindeer instead of learning how to run.
Starting point is 00:44:19 That's exactly right. There's just things that happen during the break that I want our listeners to be a part of, and us learning you've had that phone for several days was a fun moment. Well, thankfully, Mario was here and set up, took off the passcode, set up facial recognition, and now it's not timing out every five seconds. So I think we're set now. I just got to learn how to charge it properly. What about your dead Android all day when people need to talk to you?
Starting point is 00:44:41 I'll charge you when I get back in the car. I just plug it into the car and we'll be good to go and everything. Got it all figured out. Maybe I'm the idiot. I don't even know you can do that. I still care. Apple, do they even know you can do that? Maybe not.
Starting point is 00:44:53 So the question. Well, I can't remember the numbers. 502. I'm trying to remember it from memory. 502. 735-3680. We've got to figure out a way to remember that. You got to practice it.
Starting point is 00:45:04 All right, here's the question. Do you all think Stoops can take another step up? He has done great, but last couple of seasons have been underwhelming. This is going to be. this season. You think so? Are we going to Atlanta? We're going to Atlanta. Oh. See, and I agree with Matt on this. I think we could be a much better team this year, but the record be the same. Just the way the schedule is set up. That's the thing. He can take a step up, but if you're only looking at what the
Starting point is 00:45:31 final record is, the times have just changed. We're all mentally going to have to lower that final record that we want just a little bit. As Texas and Oklahoma come into the conference, they play more conference games moving forward, it's just going to be different than what we're used to. Even going back where you just wanted, remember the COVID year where you didn't have to have six games to get a ball? It just felt weird winning four or five games playing an all that CCC schedule. It's not going to be to that extent, but it is going to be a little different of how you measure success moving forward. So to answer the question after all that, it's kind of what you're looking at in your own mind. I think the record's not going to be nearly as good, but the football might be a lot better.
Starting point is 00:46:08 I agree. Just a lot of tough games on this schedule. What do you think, Mario? I think kind of what Drew said. I don't know how it's going to look. We got some new people, new teams in the conference, so it's definitely going to shake some things up. But for the most part, like I said, I feel pretty good about it.
Starting point is 00:46:24 I think we got some really good quarterback that's going to take it over the team. Bow Allen backup quarterback. Yeah. Got another quarterback. Gavin Wimson. Yeah. So I think we definitely have the potential to make some noise this season. So I have a good feeling about it.
Starting point is 00:46:40 I have a good feeling about this one. Mario told me Atlanta. I'm booking my hotel as soon as we're done. December 3rd, I think. The same day we play Gonzaggin' basketball, so it's going to be a weird double-header. Seattle, have some fans there, some fans in Atlanta, but we'll make it work. Drew, I'm calling it. What's today's day?
Starting point is 00:46:55 Tuesday, May 28. The first day without Matt. I'm calling it. I think this may be Stoop's second or third best team. And if they get that, they still won like at Ole Miss, if they beat Auburn at home. I mean, there's a lot of things that could happen. And it's not crazy to think they could have a great season. There's a few question marks.
Starting point is 00:47:16 You need Vandergriff to pan out and be what everyone expects it'll be. I mean, so far, you're hearing so good on that, but you never really know until you give them the keys in a real game. You're a wide receiver room, had a bit of a down year. I've heard they've regrouped, got a new coach in there. We're going to be all those guys playing up with their potential. If all these things, you kind of add them up, then maybe we can think some thoughts. So at the end of the show, Mano, he sets up what's going on here at KS Bar.
Starting point is 00:47:40 That's right. Tomorrow is Wings Day. Dollar Wings. We will be here tomorrow doing the show. There's a chance, though, we're going to do the show over at the UK baseball complex, either tomorrow or Thursday. We're still working on that. Trying. And then Friday, we'll have a watch party here to watch the game.
Starting point is 00:47:55 And a pre-party. And a pre-party. Yeah, absolutely. So we're trying to even. Let's talk to Monique about trying to open up early. It's just us right now. The noon game. It's just a little cut at close at 11.
Starting point is 00:48:08 We need to open a little early. It's a noon football game. You come here a little early. You can eat breakfast, party a little bit, tailgate, and then go to the game. Also, noon games. one judges you if you have a beer at 11 a. That's true. So we're still working on that.
Starting point is 00:48:20 Monique's not here yet. So we'll work on that. Thursday night, don't forget, is Singo. We're supposed to go. We're going to, Mario's going to do a little. Scouting trip. Yeah, you and Abby are supposed to go? Yoga girl's going.
Starting point is 00:48:35 I think Monique and her husband are even going. Oh, okay. That's where we need to hit her with that plan. You know, say, hey, open up a tent. So we're going to go, we're going to go sample single. because later this summer we're going to have single once in June once in July it's like bingo with songs we're going to have bingo
