What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
A rep.
My mama want you to wave at her.
What? Where's she at?

This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now, here's Matt Jones.
All right, good morning, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.
It is Friday, May 31st.
Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin, and Shannon the dude on this Friday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio,
where it is game day for the UK baseball team.
Doors are already open here at KS Bar and Grill.
People are rolling in.
We've got a lot to get to today.
But as always, Kentucky Sports Radio, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office.
What happened, Shannon?
Call T.J., he'll make them pay.
You call T.J. He'll make them pay.
We'll have our Whiskey Thief Song of the Day.
Of course, we know what it'll be.
We have our Kentucky branded call the day or tweeted the day, one of the other.
And our A Vision Glass Text Machine has been rolling.
502-735-3680.
That's the new A-Vision Glass Text Machine phone number.
We'll get your text as well.
But Drew, good morning.
I mean, we opened early.
KASBarr opened an hour early today to get ready for the UK baseball game at noon.
Open at 10 o'clock.
A lot of people already rolled in here.
Most of them going to the game.
Yeah, good crowd in here.
I successfully avoided downtown and getting here.
So anyone out there in downtown Lexington, good luck to you if you're out there fighting in the streets.
But we're two hours away from NCAA baseball.
I'm excited to get this started finally.
Got a little Western Michigan.
Where are they?
The Broncos.
Broncos.
Yeah.
I'm ready to.
take them down and move on to the next, ready to get this thing going.
We've been waiting so long, kind of speculating and assuming they would host,
and now it's right here in front of us, Kentucky getting one in Lexington.
I think we will get more people roll in that maybe are stuck in graduation traffic.
This morning is Frederick Douglas High School's graduation at 10.
It's the weekend of high school graduations, UK baseball regionals, and Railbird.
All takes off.
So if you're coming from the east side, it may have a slow ride in called the Douglas people going to the Rupp Arena.
Big weekend for Lexington, but at least today.
It looks like we might have some good weather to kick the weekend off.
Really looking forward to it.
And good to be here with you, you know.
Well, it's an honor and a pleasure to be with you, little Drew.
We had this gentleman here.
I didn't catch his name, but he asked how things been going.
I'm like, for me, it's the same.
I just show up to sit down.
You're driving the ship, doing great.
Well, the nice gentleman here actually has two free tickets to the game today,
the UK baseball game on the berm.
So if you're coming here and you would like to go to the game,
gentleman right here got two extra tickets for his birthday.
He's willing to give him away on the berm.
for Kentucky, Western Michigan.
You're going to the game.
I'm going to the game.
Can't wait.
I wish they delay it about 15 minutes so I can get over there, but that's all right.
I'll catch the second inning.
How did you decide to get there?
We're still TBD.
We'll figure it out.
The game starts in like two hours.
I'm aware that's two hours to figure out how I'm getting over there.
We'll have a watch party here at KS Bar.
I expected to be packed, people that are coming in right now to tailgate and pregame
before they go to the game.
Then the people will come in to watch the game,
just like they do for a football game.
So I'll be here watching the game at KSbar while you go to the game.
I like you're wearing a baseball jersey.
Yes.
You have a Power K hat.
I do.
You look the part.
I am ready to go.
I wore this.
This was my outfit I wore to three UK baseball games this year.
Do we win?
Two and one.
Okay.
See, I kind of faced that predicament this morning.
I have a hat I love.
It's a Power K hat.
Yeah.
And as I was putting it on, I remember, I wore this to the Tennessee game.
We were down 04 before the first out.
And I wore it at home during the SEC tournament game against LSU.
That hat is gone.
We are done with that hat.
Can't wear it today.
There's Mojo on what you have, what you're wearing.
So, Shannon, you know, some folks may want to come in and get their bloody marries and their tequila sunrises and whatever.
Okay.
Whatever your drink of choice is in the morning.
Come on out and party.
Let's do it.
I wish I was there with you guys, but I'll be watching.
So really exciting weekend coming up.
Well, we've got folks over there from Tennessee.
We got folks over there from Mississippi.
Casey Hayfellers is here.
So, I mean, we got a lot of people who are already rolling in to get ready for the game today.
The bad cats are a five and a half point favorite, run favorite, I guess you say, in baseball.
Yeah.
That's a lot of runs.
That's a lot of runs.
Does that mean, I guess if Vegas is confident, we should be confident as well?
Why not?
I mean, they're the number two overall seed.
They're one of the best teams in the country.
So get it done.
All right, the other big news of the day, obviously, as should not be a shocker to any of us,
happened about 30 minutes we finished our show yesterday.
when there was no news all yesterday morning during the show about Jackson Robinson.
Nothing. Crickets.
Didn't even know if he'd withdrawn from the draft.
Didn't know what was going on.
About 30 minutes, Drew, I think after we've wrapped it up,
it comes out that he's not only has withdrawn from the draft,
but he is going to enroll at Kentucky.
Yeah, I drove to the station right after our show,
and it happened as I was, like, pulling in.
It kind of rolled my.
I was like, of course it happened.
After Ryan and I spent two hours saying, I don't know.
But at least it's finally done.
That's the big fish we've been waiting on since Pope got the job.
I mean, that was the first name that popped up as a guy UK should target the day Pope was hired.
And, you know, he's one of the last ones.
Pope will add one.
He had one roster spot left, but he's the big one he adds after the NBA withdrawal deadline.
You got the score everyone talks about.
He was the sixth man of the year in the conference last year.
Could have been drafted this season, but coming back for another year.
And we'll call it the final piece because there is that one more spot they can fill.
But it is, I think the last box he's.
he needed to check to have a quality roster.
Shannon, he's the missing piece, right?
Right, yeah.
I mean, you and I were talking about when he was,
Pope said he had another scholarship spot.
You and I were both thinking that's got to be for Jackson Robinson or
Chas Lanier, but since that didn't pan out,
Jackson Robinson's the guy.
And now you've got a team, half the roster's fifth year seniors now.
This has got to be the most experienced Kentucky team of all time, right?
It is.
And one of the best shooting of all time.
If they'd, you know, match what their numbers have been earlier in their careers.
It's going to be quite a switch when we used to have one of the youngest teams in the country.
Now we'll be one of the oldest teams.
I know Oscar's year was Cal's oldest team, but I mean, this is not just seniors.
We're talking about fifth year guys.
So guys have been around for a long time, yeah.
Russell County.
The Lakers are already in the house.
They're coming back to Lexington for the state baseball tournament next week.
More baseball excitement in here.
With Robinson, I just like, really the whole roster, I mean, people are debating who's going to start.
I think you might end up with little Butler, Brayor, Robinson there in the back court.
But more importantly, I just love he has like a defender at every position, a score at every position.
The roster is just so versatile, he can kind of roll out whatever lineup he needs based on situational.
Now, I don't know Jackson Robinson, but I already like him because he put out his own boom yesterday on Twitter.
Shannon, did you see that?
I did, yeah, yeah, yeah.
They had Coach Figer on there with a bow cut, right?
That haircut.
The Shannon the dude bowl haircut with his own boom.
Figer, looked like he did a Utah basketball camp or something.
Rick Majores camp.
Yeah.
He's on his shirt.
You know, as a man who used to rock a bowl cut, I mean, that was even wild for me.
That might have been one of the worst bowl cuts I've ever seen.
And I love that.
He said Robinson's personality of using that as his boom.
Already shows how close he is to that staff being with him for two years.
That's the first boom.
A player has done himself.
and there's no better one than what we got there.
Makes you like him already.
You know, he's doing that.
You know, some pictures came out of Coach Pope
and him walking down a tunnel of a stadium
with his arm around each other.
I mean, they obviously have a very good relationship going forward.
Yeah, and he said this whole process,
that he stayed in touch with Pope.
We may never know, but I wonder how much Pope knew
and how close it really was how this went on.
I mean, Robinson really, I mean, reportedly was considering BYU and Kansas,
but as close as they are,
I wonder if it wasn't Pope kind of had this one really?
to go the whole time.
Because we've said all along, it's a good thing he probably tested the waters and kind of feel things out at the combine and go through the whole process and work out for teams to maybe help him for next summer, this time next year to get ready for the draft.
They should all do that.
And that's why a lot of those guys that were coming back and were like, we didn't even know they were in the draft.
I mean, they weren't at the combine, but they're still able to fly to L.A. and work out with these teams and just have these conversations with NBA personnel so they can work on things in college the next year.
So, I mean, all of them that are able should do it.
I just, we may never know why, but I wonder why Robinson made us wait overnight.
That didn't have to happen.
Okay, it's not come out yet either why he waited to the last minute, right?
Maybe they were just toying with us.
I knows how passionate BBN is and how we were watching every move that staff made for four weeks.
Maybe they're like, you all just need to sleep on this one for a little bit.
Well, 30 minutes after KSR ended, it got an out, so maybe that played into it well.
So Matt likes to do this.
I want you to rank, Shannon, you and Drew, rank our leading scores for next season.
I thought you were going to do percentage chance.
Let's do three.
Let's do three.
Our top three scores next year, who are they going to be?
In order or?
Yeah, in order.
In order.
I'll go Robinson one, Andrew Carr, two.
That's what I was going to say.
Brea three.
I mean, it's going to be, Braya could be one.
I mean, those three are going to be close together, I think.
Yeah.
Not enough people were saying Andrew Carr's name.
and they're looking forward to this team.
I have a text that's two weeks old where I'm calling my shot
that he's the SEC tournament MVP and potentially Final Four
most outstanding player.
I think that's a guy that is going to play really well
and we're not saying his name enough, looking ahead.
Shannon, what do you think?
Any difference?
I like Drew's three.
I think Kobe Brad, just because he's the best three-point shooter in the nation,
I think he's going to get a lot of shots up.
And because of that would probably be the second leading score,
probably Jackson Robinson as the leading score.
And then I like Andrew Carr.
at third as well.
Is it too early for a tweet of the day if it's related to Jackson Robinson?
This is a Kentucky branded tweet of the day.
I don't want to throw off your stuff here.
No, you do it.
Bring it on.
But I had this in my notes.
It was a Kyle Tucker tweet.
So congratulations at Kyle Tucker.
The winner of the Kentucky branded tweet of the day.
Yeah.
In BYU's six best wins last season, that was Kansas, Baylor, Texas, Iowa State, San Diego
State, NC State, all very good teams.
Robinson averaged 16.8 points shooting 41% from three and hit all but one of his free throws.
Wow.
So, I mean, it's a guy that shows up in big games.
Yeah, that's what you want.
You know, somebody that's not afraid to shy away from the spotlight when it's his brightest.
They lost in the first round.
Yeah, like 20-something in their tournament game, too, with a bunch of three-pointers.
So I think we, you know, everybody kind of feels like, you know, they needed a dude.
There was a missing piece.
Robinson checks all those boxes and let's go, man.
Let's get it going right now.
And it was a little bit of a statement because so far we don't know how much Pope wanted his old players,
but he'd gotten a lot of, you know, Richie Saunders stayed at BYUu.
Louisville got the Ali Khalifa guy.
But you kind of needed Pope to get a BYU guy just to prove that, you know,
with so many that started his targets had to get at least one of them.
That's true.
Especially just to keep continuity with the offense and having two years with him with Robinson.
Yeah, Robinson is the only guy that followed him from BYU because Colin Chandler was a freshman.
Had been played there yet.
We had a list of names of potential guys and it ended up almost in a lot.
up being none of them. So the UK basketball roster, I guess there's still one scholarship
left, though, right? If they wanted to. Yeah, you could go a lot of directions with that.
I don't know if they really need immediate help. I would almost guess they're going
a longer term piece that you know will be on the team the following year, but I don't know.
They still end with a lot of people. And, of course, the UK baseball team will throw out
the first pitch here in about an hour and 45 minutes. Now, at 1145, Shannon, we're going to
lose you on WLAP and WKRD. Is that correct? That's right. So we'll break around
1140 and then if you want to hear the last segment of KSR, just go over to the Somerset
Station again, which is 1240 AM WSFC.
Okay.
Yeah, on the I-HARD app.
All right, so just beware of that if you're listening on WLAP, WKRD.
All right, well, take our break, come back.
We've got a lot to discuss.
A lot has happened since we were last with you.
Ryan Drew and Shannon, we'll be right back.

It is time for baseball.
As the UK Batcats open up playing, they're hosting the region over at Kentucky
Proud Park at noon.
So this is kind of our UK baseball pregame show, Drew, leading up to the broadcast of the game.
Yeah, it kind of has the football Saturday vibe.
It does.
We considered being outside where we would do it for football, but it was a little chilly.
It was 59 degrees this morning.
So I thought, let's go back inside.
So we mentioned, you know, it's high school graduations.
We're still going on all day in downtown Lexington at Rupp Arena.
Railbird is tomorrow and Sunday.
We have officially sold out of all of our Railbird parking passes.
So for those of you that bought the pass, good job.
We will have extra spaces reserved out in our parking lot.
For those of you who want to come to KS Bar or one of our neighboring restaurants here,
just don't try to think you're going to park there and walk the real bird
or we're going to tell you we're going to get a little like a two-hour pass, Drew,
to come in and eat, enjoy yourself and then move on.
Yep.
And that passes on a timer, right?
It explodes if it's not back in.
I believe so.
Yeah.
It's pretty crazy.
But yeah, don't come in here hiding your car and run it off.
plenty of time if you want to come eat and hang out but no leaving it and then next week

keep a couple of those aside that we can go to our oh you already want to be a contest i want to be a winner yeah
that's in june i can't go but i hope you were able to go
Okay, one of the hottest things in all the land was the KSR Parlay.
Oh, man, dang it.
And took the heater into game five last night between the wolves and the Mavericks,
and it looks awesome.
We were just rolling.
We were rolling.
Because we've had the Mavericks winning.
The Over looked good after about six minutes into the game, which is wild for basketball.
But Luca went off to start.
He had 20 in the first quarter.
He couldn't miss.
That was so fun to watch.
So we had the Mavericks winning.
We had the over, and we had PJ Washington, who had seven points early too.
That's true. PJ, he got his tin right out of the gate as well.
So, Shannon, all it came down to was Carl Anthony Town hitting two three-pointers.
Yeah.
Two-three-pointers is all he had to hit.
He had one, right?
That's all he had.
So unfortunately didn't hit.
But you know what?
Hey, we're going to come back.
NBA finals is now set.
You've got a Boston Celtics taking on the Mavs.
We can put a KSR parlay together and win that one.
We absolutely will.
Well, we're not moving forward yet because I want an apology from the mayor of Minneapolis.
Okay.
I want an apology from the Wolves organization.
Okay.
Do you know why that parlay didn't hit Ryan?
Why?
Because they sucked last night and they pulled their starters with six minutes left in the game.
That is true.
Down by 30.
If they're even remotely in the game, they're playing from behind.
Carl's firing threes.
We're getting that three easy.
Fourth quarter starts, I'm, you know, I'm superstitious, so I'm not tweeting.
I'm not counting my money.
But in my head, I'm thinking Carl's hitting a three.
They're down, backs against the wall, they're shooting.
They put the scrubs in because they're down so bad.
So if Carl had just played a normal game, we would be rolling on.
But no, the Timberwolves were so bad that we couldn't hit it.
Well, Carl was what?
O for his first six?
Yeah, I don't want to blame Carl.
But he was 0 for six to start the game from three.
Yes.
Not ideal when you bet on him to hit three.
No, it's not.
Third quarter, though, he saw one go in.
Wolf started getting low momentum.
crowds getting in it and then it all goes to crap again and then all of the no names I don't know we're in and Carl's already on his way to Cancun for the summer.
Yeah, you'd think they were so far behind.
Carl would have kept jacking up threes, maybe hit one more and the KSR Parlay would have hit again.
And Carl had a great game.
He had close to 30.
The threes weren't falling and I'm blaming everyone in Minnesota, even if you're not a part of the organization.
That was an embarrassing performance to be game five elimination game you need to win.
So the KSR Parlay will have to sit on the back burner.
until first game of the championship series?
We're not giving up.
I'm more...
Snooker, what's on today?
Soccer, what all we got?
Baseball?
Reds.
Darts.
Yeah.
But use draft kings.
Use draft kings.
There we go.
Here we go.
Shannon did...
One other thing from the Mavs game last night.
Did you see the Snoop Dog incident with Luca?
I saw that.
And yeah.
I don't know that you go up and start picking a fight with Snoop Dog,
which leads me to believe that Snoop Dog maybe was chirping a little bit on the side.
I think so too.
First, because, I mean, everybody loves Snoop, right?
You don't just go up and pick a fight with Snoop, but if Snoop's over there talking some trash,
then you put one in their eye, I think you go over there and, you know, give it back to him a little bit.
I think that's what happened.
Yeah, Drew, I think Snoop Dog was probably chirping and talking some smack,
and then Luca starts lighting it up, and you can read Luca's lips, something we can't say on this radio show.
I thought he was yelling over Snoop, and Snoop was just laughing.
Maybe it was, whatever the case.
Luca, moments into that game was telling everyone in the arena to sit down and shut up.
Someone had like a handkerchief early.
I think maybe even before the game, counting the cry baby.
He was like seven for seven to start the game.
It was hitting from the logo.
I mean, that was an impressive performance.
And I want to add how bad Minnesota sucked in Rue and Darlae.
I felt really good about the parlay last night.
Really good about it.
We liked Dallas.
We liked the underdog on the road.
Yes.
And the over.
The over hit on, what was it, ended up being like eight of the ten playoff games or something like that.
Yep.
It was amazing.
No one is.
Seven of the nine.
Seven of the nine playoff games that overhit in the conference finals.
So we've lost two NBA parlays ever.
One was about half a point and one was by three points.
We'll bounce back for the championship series.
We'll bounce back.
All right, 859-280-2287.
That's our phone number.
So, Shannon, who we got?
Tyler.
Tyler.
Go ahead, Tyler.
Hi, what's up, guys?
This is the first time caller for me.
I just wanted to ask, what do y'all think the addition of Robinson does now as far as us being ranked?
Do you think that takes us up into the middle tier?
And also, it's my dad's 54th birthday.
He's a Cynthia Lexington native.
I just wanted to shout him out on his birthday.
What's his name?
Billy.
Billy.
Happy 54th birthday, Billy from Cynthia and Lexington.
So we've got some other Cynthia folks in here in the house, getting ready to go to the baseball game as well.
So thanks a lot.
Appreciate the call.
So, yeah, to me now Kentucky is a legit top 20 team for sure.
Arthur, can you see that legit, should be ranked higher than that?
A lot of rankings came out yesterday after the deadline.
And some of them came out before Robinson's announcement
because they had all been written assuming he had already announced.
Like the athletic, even before Robinson had him at number 24.
I don't know if they updated theirs later in the day,
but like Jeff Goodman had them in top 15.
A lot of national people tweeting kind of top 10 to 15 range.
So I think it'd be fair to say it made them a top 15 in the national perspective.
Shannon, what do you think?
What's fair?
We're trying to be fair.
Yeah, I mean, I don't like top 25, but, you know, what does that really mean?
That's just a talking point for us in the summer.
We, you know, seen in the past the Kentucky team that went 9 and 16 that year was what ranked top five, I think, in the country.
So, but yeah, I mean, you got to be happy about what Pope has been able to do starting from scratch, having no assistant coaches, no roster whatsoever.
It's impressive what he's been able to build in this short amount of time.
I'm pretty excited to start.
something new.
I mean, I would much rather be ranked one and be loaded and, you know, everybody
come get some.
But for several years, we've been at the top and have just spent the year being pulled
down and not being able to get back to the top.
It will be kind of fun and refreshing to have a team that's more of you're trying to
climb up there.
Now, I don't want that every year.
I'd prefer to be already in it.
But it is different to be, say they're ranked 20th, to spend the year trying to get
better and climb up and see what you can achieve as opposed to starting at the top and just
being pulled back.
taking losses you weren't supposed to take loss because you're expected to win games.
And it's hard for Kentucky to be labeled by an underdog anyway, right?
Just because you're Kentucky.
Just because you're that blue blood, regardless of the roster,
people aren't going to view you as they're going to be the,
you're still the team with the target on your back just because you're Kentucky.
Yeah, I don't want to sound like a sore loser saying, yeah,
I love being ranked number 18.
I don't mean it like that.
But for a year, it will be different.
It will be.
Kind of rising up the rankings.
New staff, new players, never played together.
Only one guy's ever played for Coach Pope ever.
So it will take a minute.
Now next year let's be top three, but this year would be fun to do a little different.
Let's get another call before we get out of here, Shannon.
Who we got?
Aaron.
Aaron, go ahead, Aaron.
You got about a minute.
All right.
So I saw a tweet that said the Kentucky roster includes all these players who have big time experience.
And so now we have a coach who can actually coach X&Os instead of just recruit.
So that leads me to ask, why can't we be good?
You know, and then, well, you'll have people say
Mark Pope has never won an NCAA tournament game.
Well, I would say these players are better than the players he had to be,
BYU.
We have a coach who can get it done with experienced players,
so he will get it done.
By the time Marks rolls around, mark my word,
we will be contenders for the final four.
I love it.
I appreciate the call.
I love it.
That's a good way to look at.
If you're a Kentucky fan,
that's the best way to look at it.
Yeah, the reason that some people aren't already saying that is because your
starters are going to be like from Dayton, Drexel.
Robinson came off the bench at BYU.
That's the reason that they're not ranked higher.
But if it all comes together and some of these guys take another step forward,
yeah, then high ceiling.
We'll take our break.
Come back.
It's the UK baseball pregame show, so to speak, here on Kentucky Sports Radio.
We'll be right back.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.

we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good

Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

What?
Time out.

Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, Ryan, Drew and Shannon.
Got a big, nice crowd here already for the UK baseball pregame tailgate show.
As Kentucky baseball gets ready to get underway at noon on most of these stations,
well, 6-3WLAP and 790 KRD in Louisville, you want to listen to the game.
and we'll have drop out at that 1145, 1140.
So if you're listening on those two stations,
you have to go switch over to 1240 a.m. WSFC
to pick us up for that last segment of the show.
We're so busy.
I thought you were just going to leave me and Shannon here to do the show.
You make friends.
Well, that's Freebird.
Freebird. Our caller Freebird Shannon is in the house.
Okay, yeah.
I didn't know if he's coming back, Shannon.
He's over here being buddies with everybody.
We're talking Russell County Baseball, Lindsay Wilson Baseball.
What you know about Lindsey Wilson baseball?
He played.
Freebird played it, Lindsay Wilson, too.
Oh, okay.
What years were you there, Freebird?
88 to 92, so he played against me.
He's in between you and me, Shannon.
Okay, yeah.
He's an old man then.
I was a little kid back then.
But he brought us these little necklaces that were made by Mr. Ed Inman, Kentucky, like...
We got some chains now.
He's got some chains, and he's got someone says Pope Mark and Kentucky Wildcats.
Pope Mark or Mark Pope?
It says Pope Mark Mark.
Oh, okay.
It says that.
You have Pope Mark the first.
That's copyright issues, right?
Probably.
Maybe so, but yeah, so thank you, Mr. Ed.
We appreciate that as well.
This is from the A Vision Glass text machine.
Okay.
502-735-3680.
Why are we so excited over a guy that was BYU's sixth man?
Sorry, guys, but this is Kentucky, and we should expect better.
Pope is in over his head.
You know, there are still fans out there that can't just get on board for whatever reason.
and it drives me insane, man.
And no matter what your situation is,
you should always be a Kentucky Wildcat fan
and want your team to do the best.
Reed Shepard was Kentucky's six-man.
I mean, I'm not saying that he's Reed Shepard,
but sometimes the best player on the team doesn't start.
He was the leading score.
He could have been picked in the second round of the draft.
I just told you how some of his best games
were against their six best opponents last year.
I mean, I'm sorry.
he's not, you know, the best player in college basketball,
but I think it's a very good good for Mark Pope,
and I think who is the caller or the texter?
I don't know.
They better not be cheering when Jackson Robinson's lighting it up in Ruperina next year.
I don't want to hear a peep from them.
We've had the best rated players in college basketball.
How has that worked out for us?
We have a one title.
Here's one more from the while we're talking about Jackson Robinson,
from the text machine.
With Jackson now on the team,
what are they going to do with Will Riley visiting and possibly reclassified?
You think that's still in play?
It's probably not out of the question.
I don't know how much that kid wants to reclassify.
I don't know if he was seeing an opportunity if Robinson didn't go
or if he's in a hurry to get to school.
But, I mean, that last roster spot, that could go to him
and you could say, well, we'll get you more attention next year.
I don't know what they're telling him.
But Kentucky's still in with him,
and I think the conversations will continue even with Robinson on the roster.
859-2-287.
That's our phone number.
So who we got, Shannon.
Let's go to Roy.
Roy.
Go ahead, Roy.
Yeah.
Here's the deal.
It ain't when you, how far up you start is when you finish it's most important.
That's right, Roy.
I ran track and I found that out the hard way.
And I was talking to you guys yesterday about the tobacco.
My girlfriend, she has allergies, so she'd have to take an epipine.
So if anybody gets bee stung and they start sweating, they need to get to a doctor.
Thank you, Roy.
I appreciate it.
Yeah, I think Roy was called the pre-show with his old wives' tail.
You can put tobacco juice on a bee sting, and it takes the sting out.
Is that right, Shannon?
I've heard that, yeah.
I believe it, too.
I know Google says otherwise, but sometimes I think Google's wrong and sometimes, you know,
somebody like Roy that lives out in the country and is, you know, put tobacco on a bee sting,
maybe knows more than the Internet, unlike Matt Jones.
I mean, I'm still getting old wives' tales, like all day long.
People listen to the podcast and they'll send their old wives tale.
Jeff Drummond had a good one.
see if you guys have heard this.
If you're an athlete, you're not supposed to lift weights the day of a game
because it throws your shot off.
That is true.
I don't think that's an old wives tell.
That is true.
I always thought that was true, too.
Now, what about this one, though?
If you're an athlete, you're not supposed to get a haircut or cut your fingernails on the day of a game
because it throws your game off.
That's more of a superstition.
The lifting weights makes sense.
I think if you want to get into the sports superstitions, there's a ton of those,
especially you crazy baseball people that won't step on chalk and everything else.
859-2-802-287 who's next shannon chad chad chad go ahead chad hey ryanne this is chenka from chinkepin man
how are you all doing not to change the subject on you okay shannon listen to this this is chad okay
we went to singo last night at chinkapen brewery in georgetown okay it was packed i mean
packed and we did it because we're going to bring singo here to ks bar and grill next month
so we went to kind of play it and well i'll talk more about it later
and kind of experiencing it get to enjoy it.
And this guy, Chad, won.
He won the final single, and they say,
this is the fourth time he's won it.
He's like a single servant or something.
He's like a single master.
I'm like the founding father.
You are the founding father.
I don't know how you can win four times
when the place is packed every Thursday night
over there at Chicapin.
It's wild, man.
I'll tell you, Dave and his wife,
you're a great job engaging and all that.
And if you saw George, man,
he's a great entertainer.
So he plays to the crowd and makes it fun for all ages, man.
They've got a good staff, good pizza.
And we're going to talk to Dave, and we're going to bring a crowd to you on June 18th.
Okay, June 18th is when single hears at KS. Barn Grill.
And we expect you to come in.
You're the defending champion.
You're coming in.
You're Kentucky Wildcats coming in on somebody's opponent at home court.
So we expect you to try to bring it and see if somebody can knock you off.
I'll bring it, and I'm going to bring a crowd.
All right, thank you, Chad.
Appreciate it.
Congratulations.
Dude, it was a lot of fun last night.
I mean, that's a fun game to play.
So it's like bingo.
They play a song, and if your song is on your bingo card,
you just, you know, use your dobber, dob it up.
You know what I mean?
So they play about 30, 45 seconds of a song.
They do tell you what the song is when it's over,
so you're not sitting there guessing.
What the heck is that song?
I don't think we should do that.
Can we keep that part out of it?
Like, you either know the song or you don't.
Well, yeah, I think you've got to know the song.
I don't want to change the rules of singo because it's clear that it works.
I've never played where you get the song title and artists told to you after it's played.
But when they play the song, everybody in the restaurant, especially the table I was at, sings it word for word.
You know the song.
Our theme last night was 80s songs.
Oh, you were in my house.
That's in my wheelhouse.
So Shannon, I think they also have like 90s songs.
They have hair band songs.
You can break it down in every category.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I don't know what category we're going to get on June 18th when single comes here.
I'm wondering we could maybe recommend which one to use.
So does everyone tell the song, or were you just yelling the song out in the restaurant?
Well, at the end of the song, at the end of the clip, he'll say that was Baby Got Back.
You know, he'll tell you what it is then.
So make sure you can don't miss it on your scorecard.
I'm with Shannon.
I think you got to know the song to get the credit.
I think that's part of it.
Yeah, because, you know, maybe you have the winning card.
You don't even realize it because you don't know the song.
Then you give the opportunity to somebody else who actually knows the songs to win.
See, I need to be running this.
I'm the music guy.
Maybe you should.
Maybe you should come and help out that night.
I'm telling you, the hardest part for me was they tell me the song.
I'm trying to find it on your scorecard.
You get two cards.
And actually, you're trying to find it on there.
That was the hard part for me.
But it's fun.
I think we'll all have a good time we do it on June.
Now, bingo comes.
Bingo's Tuesday.
Tuesday, June 4th.
Bingo.
First time ever at K.S.
bar and grill. George Thompson, same guy's going to do bingo.
Then I'll be back two weeks later on Tuesday, June 18th for Singo.
I'm ready for some bingo.
Well, I'm ready for Singo too, but bingo, I've never been, like I like the game.
I've played bingo before, but I've never been when it's kind of competitive.
I think there's some sassy people in here, you know, yelling everybody with their,
one of the dabbers, dobbers?
Dobbers?
Yeah, yeah, the dobers.
Is it BYOD?
Do I need to bring my own dauber for that?
Well, no.
George provided everybody with a dover.
Okay.
I'm ready to go then.
And I think that hurt me because I ended up with the North Carolina.
of blue dober. See, I didn't have the good color of blue. I think that hurt my game.
It'll set you back. It'll be a lot of fun. We'll talk a lot more about that as we get closer to it.
All right, who's next, Shannon? It's going to Chase. Chase, go ahead, Chase.
Hey, guys, I'm on my way down to Lexington from Indianapolis for the baseball game. I've actually
got a cousin that plays on the team. I'm excited to be down for the game. I haven't had a chance to
look into how the super regional works. I know we would host it if we'd get there.
But who comes to play us if we get that far? How do they determine?
that and who are we looking at for that?
Well, they already kind of have the brackets drawn out, right?
Who would potentially play in the Super Regional?
The host in one seed there is Oregon State, if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah, they're the highest seed.
I don't know the other teams that could knock them off,
but I think that's who you're looking to potentially play.
And they're like a 15 overall seed, if I'm not mistaken.
So that's the favorite to play Kentucky in the Super Regional,
which is best two out of three.
Okay, that makes sense.
Yeah, yeah.
So, well, enjoy the weekend.
Come by and see us at KS Bar and Grill while you're here this weekend.
Okay.
You see Irvine, Nichols, and Tulane could knock off Oregon State.
And it's at Oregon State.
It's on their home field, right?
Yes.
So that would start next Thursday or Friday.
Friday, Sunday, I believe.
Or just Friday, Saturday.
That's true.
But we're not looking ahead.
We've got the Broncos today, Ryan.
You don't sleep on the Mac.
And we also have to pool for northern Kentucky today.
The Norse are playing at Tennessee.
and the first game of their regional.
So Shannon, even though we grew up not to like the Norse,
when we were the GLVC, we got to pull for the Norse today.
Yeah, I mean, we're all Kentucky still, right?
So if Kentucky team could knock off Tennessee in the first round of the tournament,
that would be great.
So, yeah, we're definitely Norse today.
All right, well, take a break, come back, go back to the phone lines.
859-280-287.
That's 859-280.
Katz. Ryan Drew and Shannon, we'll be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan Drew and Shannon.
Hey, I want to know, Ryan.
All right, you're playing single.
Do you know this song?
This is 80s.
Yeah.
What do you got?
You sing along with the word, trying to get to the chorus, figure out the name of it is.
You've heard this song.
Yes, I've heard it a million times.
See, I would have to wait until the chorus.
You play like 30 seconds of the chorus and kind of gives it away.
Then they'll say, of course, that's bullet to the bone, bad to the bone.
How about Twilight Zone?
Twilight Zone.
There you go.
By the way, I was awful.
My, I was awful.
I was, I had a bad card.
It was just, it was just awful.
Oh, was the cards?
Yeah.
You're buying me the card.
Of course it was the card.
The songs played were not on my cards.
What had to be the card?
But you recognized them?
You knew the name of every song?
Well, usually like two or three songs later,
Yoga Girl or Jule sitting beside me would say,
Ryan, they played that one.
And they would, you know, point out one that I missed.
Wait, so you're telling, you just weren't paying attention then,
because if they even tell you the name of the song and you miss it,
Well, then you've got to find it on your card, and that's somewhat difficult.
What is hard about that?
How much alcohol were you drinking?
Not much.
Not much.
Dylan Bauer, we all know Dylan.
He's a good friend of ours.
He said his child is due on the first day of the College World Series.
He covers the Cats for a job.
Wait your whole life for UK baseball to make it to the College World Series,
and your child is due on the first day of the College World Series.
calling the kid slugger new newly married first child i don't think he's going to omaha if the cats
no he is not he even tried to tell me he's like well if they make the championship game then it's
a week and i haven't no you're not going even if this was his fifth child mom ain't letting that happen
you're staying for the birth of the child it will be nice to meet baby omaha though when the cats win
the world series and he names his child after that's what chanin just said dillan you need to name the child
like slugger or nick minggion yeah there you go mingeon
There's three guys over here.
They call themselves the three amigos from Tennessee.
Okay.
They look like amigos.
One of them's wife, Janice, is listening right now in Piperton, Tennessee.
So we give Janice a shout out there, the three amegals.
Those guys look like they know how to have fun.
I got to be honest when I walked in that first people I saw here.
They were the first ones here.
They know what they're doing.
I got here at like 930.
They were already here.
Ready to go.
We're ready for the game.
They need a fourth and fifth amigo.
I bet we can hang out with them.
859-9-2-287.
Who's next, Shannon?
Steph.
Steph.
Go ahead, Steph.
Good morning.
Good morning, guys.
I'm excited for the UK baseball team.
Hope they do well.
We do too, Steph.
Yeah, I hope they have a good weekend here.
And then it's my Mavs against Shannon Celtics.
That's right.
I'm sorry, Steph.
Your team's going to lose.
Steph's a Mavs fan.
I didn't know that.
It's Dallas is here.
They're going to win it.
There we go.
Keep talking smack to Shannon.
Steph, he likes that.
What you got?
Nothing.
No, I do, but I'm going to be nice.
Going to be nice, Steph.
Thank you very much.
We appreciate it.
Thank you, Steph.
Thanks for calling in.
Speaking of Shannon talking smack, I heard him on the pre-show this morning.
What?
You got a big interview coming up.
Oh, yeah, yeah, next Friday.
I didn't even realize WWE Smackdown, I guess, is going to be in Louisville.
And they said, do you want to interview the WWE
champion Cody Rhodes.
Cody Rhodes and Shannon in the same studio.
Yeah, he's actually going to come into the studio.
So I'm looking forward to that.
And I guess I'll probably just pre-record it running on double Q and QMF in the afternoon.
And I'll post it on social media for wrestling fans that actually care about it.
It would be like when Al came into the studio and you were just talking trash the whole time?
You know, one of the guys said, you know, it's kind of cool because they're bringing in the WWE champion.
You can actually hold his belt.
And I said, well, maybe he can hold my belt.
You know, anything about that.
How quickly into the interview, Drew, does Shannon mention?
You know, I'm the radio heavyweight champion of OVW.
I don't think he asked to.
I think Cody Rhodes will fill the greatness when he's parking outside the IHeart Studios.
He'll know that there's a champion inside.
That's right.
See, Cody came up through OVW too, which is probably the reason.
Oh, he did.
Which is probably the reason.
Yeah, like usually they send out, you know, one of their middle tier guys.
But, you know, with Cody in his history at OVW coming up through the ranks,
I think that's probably the reason he's coming into the Louisville studio.
I think you throw your belt down and say, put your belt down.
Let's go.
I guarantee Cody Rhodes was never the radio heavyweight champion of OVW, was he?
No, nor was he the longest reigning anything at OVW like I am.
So, you know.
There we go.
That would be fun.
All right, 859-2802-287.
Who's next, Shannon?
Rob.
Rob. Go ahead, Rob.
Hey, guys.
I just want to say a couple things about Pope.
I have not been this excited about UK basketball in probably eight or nine years.
and there is no coach that I've ever wanted to succeed more than Mark.
So we need to get behind him as much as we can.
But I'll also say this.
In 78 to the present, I don't know of a final four team
that didn't have multiple NBA players on it.
And so let's give him time to build his roster,
but let's not act like we're ready to make a title run now
because of the roster that we have.
fair. I think that's fair. Not a
necessarily a title run, I appreciate the phone call.
Not necessarily a title run, Drew, but
yet a roster that's good enough to
be successful next year. Oh, heck yeah.
They're going to win a lot of games.
I mean, they're capable of title run. I wouldn't
expect it or anything. I don't think anyone's going to be predicting
that. But I also do his point about
the NBA players, or a lot of title teams
have an NBA players, I think we're slowly going to see
that changing a little more as
you know, I don't think we'll have COVID years
much longer. But these older guys in college
that are never going to make the NBA,
They're going straight overseas.
They're going to find each other jumping up to the next tier of schools for one year.
They're all going to meet at one place, and it's a formula that's already starting to work a little bit,
and I think you're going to see a lot more of that.
But, yeah, historically, there's been some NBA players, multiple on teams winning titles.
You know, Matt's philosophy he's always had on this show is that you need three dudes to win a title, to make a title run.
I think the college is right.
I don't know if there's three dudes on this team.
They got maybe one and a half.
but give it time.
I mean, now once Pope gets his feet settled here
and he'll develop the roster
the way that maybe can make a tournament,
a championship run.
Yeah, there's a lot of guys that have not seen
the NCAA tournament, but also,
Kentucky's starting point guard,
if you're assuming it's Lamont Butler,
he hit a buzzer-beater in the final four.
Yeah.
I mean, I don't know if you'll be in the NBA
and it might not be a dude or a stud,
but that's a lot more shots
than Kentucky basketball has been hitting
in the tournament lately.
I mean, he has more tournament experience than anything we've seen in Lexington in quite a few years.
So, I mean, that guy's not on draft boards, but you're telling me a dude that's already hit a buzzer beer in the final four.
Can't help you get back to it?
He has a lot more Final Four experience than anybody in Kentucky's had in, what, eight, nine years.
Yeah, and Pope, that's the big thing on Pope.
He doesn't have a tournament win.
He'll have to get over that hump, but he was also, he started in a conference with Gonzaga, and you're never going to make the tournament there.
True.
And then last year was his first year at B.
or first year in the Big 12 at BYU,
and they go from Pick Last to beating Kansas at Kansas
and making the tournament.
So even though there's not a guys that have already done it
or a lot of these dudes aren't studs and dudes as we stay,
there's won a lot of games.
