Starting point is 00:02:48 Now, here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back, hour number two on this Tuesday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan Drew Shannon, joined by Super Mario for this hour. Yes, good to be back. Back back, Super Mario Maitland. Yeah, I'm going to clap. I'm going to clap. I'm excited. I have good news for Shannon.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Yeah? What do you got? Somebody on the A Vision Glass Text Machine is bringing me a costume for you, I think, as we speak. Do we know what the costume is? Do we want to make it a surprise? No, I do know what it is. You do. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:16 It's Wonder Woman. I'm not wearing Wonder Woman. Oh, Shannon, you got to wear a Wonder Woman. Let me look up Wonder Woman. You don't know what Wonder Woman's costume looks like? Linda Carter back in the day? My goodness. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:30 I can see it. It's kind of what you wrestle in. No, it's not. It's not even close. I'm trying to picture it in my head. They're all a lot of like somebody that may have a Captain America costume. Okay, we'll do that. There's a bunch of them that are offered, but we'll get you one.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Okay. Okay. Now, before we get into the rest of the show, we've got some Tim McGraw tickets we've got to give away. Tim McGraw is, is it this Saturday? Or is it a week from this Saturday? Obviously, you were planning on going. I can tell. I think it's next Saturday.
Starting point is 00:04:03 I think it's a week from this Saturday. I believe it's June 15th. Yeah, June 15th, a week from this Saturday. We've got tickets to give away the next couple of days. So we just opened the doors here at KS. Bar and Grill. I say the next person that comes in that wants tickets. Just got to come in, come up, and we'll give you a couple tickets to Tim McGraw. How about that?
Starting point is 00:04:20 Come on down. There's got to be a code word or something. Okay, what's the code word? Well, this is your contest. How about? What's your favorite Tim McGraw song, or line? I got a barbecue stain on my white TV. You got to sing that.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Got to sing it. Can't say it. How about the first person to walk in with a barbecue stain on their white t-shirt? Oh, if they do that, I might give you four tickets. I mean, these are tickets to Tim McGrath-Rup. You can ruin a white shirt to get some free tickets. If you come in and sing it, I'll give you two. If you come in and you have a barbecue stand in your white t-shirt, I'll give you four.
Starting point is 00:04:49 What if you come in and you put barbecue from KS Bar on your white T-shirt? I give you four tickets. They'll be wasted our barbecue, though. All right. Just a little bit. 859-9-2-80-2-287. We'll see if somebody comes in here at KS bar. What happens if you have multiple? You got to be ready for this. Like say cars just start, you know, we've almost caused accidents before.
Starting point is 00:05:08 We have looking out the door at the intersection that's trouble. I mean, what if six people walk in? What are you going to do? First one here. But just a one winner? One winner. Okay. And then we'll have another. We've got several to give away. So we'll have several different contests. All right. A couple different stunts we'll do. All right. Here's the homework question. Oh, boy. Have any of you, I want each one of you to answer this had an awkward or uncomfort? interaction with somebody while you've been interviewing them. And this is the reason why I asked this. You may have seen this story. When Caitlin Clark was drafted by the Indiana Fever, she had like an introductory news conference, and it was this really weird interaction with Greg Doyle, with the Indianapolis Star.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Now, we like Greg Doyle. He's hosted this show a couple times. Cool. And since then, I will say Greg Doyle issued a very sincere public apology. because when Caitlin Clark leaves the game, she gives her mom the heart symbol and her mom gives it back. Well, I think something about when she came out for introductory news conference, Greg Doyle did that to her and said,
Starting point is 00:06:12 you can do it to me now when you come out on the court. It was kind of a weird, awkward interaction. I think I saw like a little clip of that. Yeah, yeah. So that was him. That was him. So it got me thinking, have you guys ever had an awkward or weird situation like that in your past? Drew, you go first?
Starting point is 00:06:29 I'm usually at the interview to make it awkward or be funny. I'm never asking serious questions. So I've had plenty of moments where we're laughing and got weird, but I kind of went in with intentions. One that came to mind when you assigned me this is remember the old basketball media days where we would get like 15 minutes with each player and they would just – We would all be scattered across the court in a chair and you'd sit at your station all day and they would just rotate around. Rotate around.
Starting point is 00:06:59 We'd get like 15 minutes. It was awesome. We never get 15 minutes. That was great. But I had a young Shade Gildes Alexander. He had only been on campus a few weeks. I and no one else had any idea what that young man would become. We were just excited for a nice little four-star who might help out.
Starting point is 00:07:15 I know this story. And when he sat down for my interview, he had the biggest booger in his nose. Oh, no. And I'm kind of new to that. I guess I wasn't new at that point. But I'm like, do I tell him? Yes. Yeah, you got to tell him.
Starting point is 00:07:28 I didn't tell him. Oh, you did him dirty. And I talked to him for like 15 minutes, and it was just there. I guess the hard part. And it still haunts me. I should have told him. The hard part is like, how do you tell him? No, no, the whole interview, I have my questions in mind, but the back of my brain, my mouth is
Starting point is 00:07:43 asking questions about basketball, but the brain's like, you got to tell him. Get a hand of a Kleenex. But that's one that actually I felt uncomfortable, and I can call him out now. He's Shaded Gilges Alexander. He's a superstar. He's doing all right. He can have a booger in his nose every once in a while. But it was so hard.
Starting point is 00:07:58 And it's one of those things. Do you ever have things that, like, later in life, you'll think of them and you'll have, like, anxiety for both of 20? Oh, yes. It still comes up to my brain that I let that poor kid do his first interview with that. Come on. That thing just swinging from his nostril. Come on, Ger.
Starting point is 00:08:11 But that is our NBA star. Another one, this one went pretty viral, was with, hey, Kentucky. We're doing Media Day on the football field, and I had Chris Rodriguez with me. This is even before he blew up. He might have been a freshman. And I was like, look at the camera. and tell BBN why they should come out to Crogerfield. And part of it was all by delivery and watching it back, but he went,
Starting point is 00:08:35 hey, B, B, B, B, and why come to Crogerfield? And I was like, no, no, tell them why they should come to Crogerfield. But the clip ends with him saying, hey, B, B, B, and why, come to Crogerfield. So those are two of my best awkward moments. Nothing to the level of Doyle where I need to apologize, but me holding the microphone felt like I could have done a better job making them not look like idiots. Man, when you sent the homework.
Starting point is 00:09:01 They're not look like idiot, but just the awkward, the weird. When you sent the homework question, I was thinking, I was like, there's not, I've interviewed a fair share amount of people. There's not a lot of awkward moments. In my situation, it's more of kind of just adjusting to whatever we have, since we do my podcast, we do it in different locations every time. So awkward moments don't often come, you know, a lot on our podcast. But if I had to choose one moment, I'd probably say Cameron Mills episode.
Starting point is 00:09:30 We're doing it in his house. For one, great dude, very entertaining speaker. I like to call him. Oh, yeah. We love Cameron Mills. Yeah, he's great. He's great. But during the episode, there was just so many different things going on.
Starting point is 00:09:43 His dog is just coming in and out of the frame. Dogs roaming around, which I loved it, to be honest. But one specific moment that kind of stood out to me was, and I'll try to explain it very clearly. the lights that we use, they're very strong lights, very strong equipment, right? We shut off all the lights in the house, right? So we're using our lights. Very, very powerful. And we're going about 30 minutes in.
Starting point is 00:10:09 And I believe we're talking about Rick Patino or getting into the days of Rick Patino with Cameron Mills. And all of a sudden, our lights go out during the episode. And it's just pitch black. You can actually look it up. It's pitch black and we're all sitting there. And Cameron Mills, he's still talking. He's going with the flow.
Starting point is 00:10:27 Professional. Yeah, very professional. And I'm like, Cameron, the lights are off, man. We might have to cut this thing. And he's actually going with the flow. So that was probably my most awkward moments so far, but not a lot of awkward moments for me. Shannon? Yeah, a couple come to mind, and they were both phone interviews, so not anything in person.
Starting point is 00:10:46 But I was interviewing the wrestler, AJ Stiles, from the WWE over the phone. And we're talking, and all of a sudden he stops mid-sentence. and says, hang on a minute, I got to call you back. I'm getting pulled over. So that was sort of weird, right? That was sort of awkward. Got pulled over during the interview. Yeah, we're doing the interview.
Starting point is 00:11:06 And like I said, over the phone, it gets pulled over during, so then he has to call me back. That's the first one that came to mind. This one was really awkward. This just happened last October. I remember when we opened up for Third Eye Blind at the app. Oh, yeah, yeah. So they said, do you want to talk to the lead singer of Third Eye Blind,
Starting point is 00:11:24 Stephen Jenkins, who's like the only guy that I even know from the band, like even recognize his name and know who he is. And I said, sure, you know, we'll promote his band, promotes my band, to win-win. So we go to do the interview. I get the phone call. And here's the thing. When you do phone call interviews, depending on the level of celebrity, some will just like, you know, some musicians will call you directly. You know, just call me and do the interview that way. but when you get to a certain level of celebrity,
Starting point is 00:11:54 they'll have like a person who calls you, who patches you into the person you're interviewing, right? Like a manager or somebody, right? So I'm sitting here waiting for the interview with Stephen Jenkins. Guy calls me up and he says, hey, this is such and such, third eye blind. And I go, okay? And in my mind, this person calling me is like the manager,
Starting point is 00:12:16 somebody I don't know, the PR guy. And I go, okay. and I'm waiting. Like I'm sitting here waiting. I'm thinking he's about to patch me through to Stephen Jenkins. So I'm waiting and there's like 10 seconds of silence. And all of a sudden the guy on the other end of the line goes, all right then.
Starting point is 00:12:33 And I'm like, wait a minute, wait, wait, I'm sorry. Like who are you? Who are you again? He goes, I'm such and such. And I go, wait a minute, you're in the band? He's like, yeah, I'm the guitar player for the band. And I'm going, dude, no, I thought I was interviewing Stephen Jenkins. I had no idea you were going to call it.
Starting point is 00:12:46 And I didn't even know who this guy was, right? He was just the guitar. Not even the original member of the band, like a guy that was a hired gun in the band. They threw me a complete curveball, and I had this awkward interaction thinking, okay, I'm waiting for this guy to patch me through to the singer, and it's the guitar player for the band. So imagine being prepared to interview one guy in the band, and you get somebody you don't even know was in the band to begin with. So I had all these very specific questions. I had to throw out the door and just on a whim interview a guy who I didn't even.
Starting point is 00:13:19 even though was in the band. That made me feel anxious just hearing, listening to the story. So, like, how long you've been to the man, man? You're like being in the band? What's your name? I just love that I'm sitting here. Like, we're just having a standoff where nobody's talking. And the awkward part of him is going, all right then. Like, he's probably thinking, man, this guy's a horrible interviewer. He doesn't have anything to say. It was really awkward. You know what's, what else is awkward? When you're in an interview situation, I'll probably say, when you ask a question, and sometimes this happens when you have a little bit of a speaker, a person that kind of talks a lot, but you ask a question and they don't even answer your question.
Starting point is 00:13:57 Yeah. Just keep going. Go interview CalPerry? Did 15 years of that. What did you say, Shannon? Yeah. I had an awkward cow moment where at the NCAA tournament I asked Tyler Hero a question, and instead of addressing him as Tyler Hero, I addressed him as the bucket.
Starting point is 00:14:12 And Cal has a visible reaction on the stage before I even asked my question. Yeah, I remember that. That was fun. I've got a couple, but you reminded me of one that Alan Cutler actually had with Rajon Rondo. Rondo was, he was hard to deal with. And Coutler had availability where you were talking to players, and Rondo was sitting in a chair, just like a folding chair. And every question Alan asked him, it was just like, yes, no.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Those are the worst. That's the worst. That's why when you interview somebody you don't ever give them a yes or no question. Open-minded question. Right. Open-ended. Well, they were, and Rondo was just purposely being an extra hard to deal with. Yeah, I think of Briscoe would do that occasionally.
Starting point is 00:14:55 He just wasn't filling it, and he would just give you the shortest answer possible. No, I don't know. That's what you just have to go, look, dude, do you want to do this or not? Like, we're giving you a huge platform here? No, you don't want to do this? Okay, that's when you just have to walk away. Mind myself, though, I can think of a couple of them, and they all involve nudity. Of course they do.
Starting point is 00:15:12 Is this why you gave us the homework? Yeah, Ryan just wanted to get his answer. Ryan just wanted an excuse to tell his story. When you go into an NFL locker room, that's a different animal. That's just a different animal to go into. Is this the George Muroson story? I was going to get to that. You think I should tell that one, too?
Starting point is 00:15:31 You've told it before. What's going to stop you now? Well, in the NFL locker room, guys are going in and out of the shower, and, you know, the guys who have the good bodies, the running backs to receivers, they usually cover themselves up. it's the offensive and defensive defensive alignment that put the towel over their neck and walk around. No shame. No shame whatsoever. So there's naked bodies all over the place.
Starting point is 00:15:55 So we went up when Tim Couch was with the Browns playing the Bengals went up to talk to Tim Couch, had this great interview with him after the game. It was awesome. We get back, put the tape in, can't use any of it. Because over his shoulder is a guy naked, drying himself off that, you know, our camera guy was so focused on trying to get the, you know, in frame. So we're going to use audio on. Only was audio of Tim Couch in our story because that naked guy was in the background.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Just put up an image of Tim or something is like a almost like a. We just showed highlights. We just showed highlights. Another one still in the Bingoes locker room, the quarterback at the time, I don't know if I should say his name, but it rhymes with Neff Jake. It must be Carson Palmer. Must be Carson Palmer. He was sitting in front of his locker completely naked. And female reporters can come in.
Starting point is 00:16:45 she came up and was getting ready to ask him questions saw that he was naked and she did the right thing she stood behind him he did not show her any respect whatsoever but yet she showed him respect and I just sat back and I just kind of watched that you know that's got to be tough for that girl she's trying to do her job man she's trying to just do her job and the guys being kind of a jerk
Starting point is 00:17:05 awkward situation awkward situation yeah what about George said I tell the George Mirrors I don't know it but I haven't said on this show have I oh yes you have Yeah, yeah. I mean, you have. I don't know what it is, so I don't want to green light it and have to answer for it later. Shannon, does it get the green light?
Starting point is 00:17:23 I'll green light, but Ryan just tell it in a way that you can tell it on the radio. Okay. There you go. George Mura-San was playing for the Washington. They were the bullets. I remember the bullets back then. Rex Chapman was a bullet. Back in a days, man.
Starting point is 00:17:34 Jacketman was a bullet, and so was Calbert Cheney. That's right. So I'm working at Channel 7 in Evansville. They're playing an exhibition game in Louisville. So we drove. to Louisville to do a story on Calvert Cheney. Were they playing the Bulls or the Pacers? It was Pacers.
Starting point is 00:17:49 I think it was at that game. I saw the Bullets play exhibitions like every year, but carry on. So in the locker room, Calvert's sitting down, and there's like four or five people around. Even though it is when you're interviewing somebody. And I could just kind of tell there was somebody behind me. You know, I can just get that feeling that somebody's like right behind. Breathing on your neck.
Starting point is 00:18:07 So as soon as the interview was over, I turn around and it's George Miroson, and he's completely naked. George Mirosan is like 7 foot 4. I'm 5 foot 4. How'd you feel? He's taller than 7.4, by the way. Oh, yeah, he was 7-7. Yeah, he's...
Starting point is 00:18:25 Because his number was 77. He was 7-foot-7. And his little Ryan, I turn around, his manhood almost hit my nose. I'm not kidding you. That's how close it was. We got to be... So that is he bumped your forehead.
Starting point is 00:18:41 That's definitely an awkward interaction. He's just like, Oh, excuse me. I'm like, whoa, yeah, excuse you. That is a true as true can be story, too. There's no doubt about it. Well, I had one more I was going to add. Go ahead, please.
Starting point is 00:18:54 How can you top that one? No, I can't. That's why I just, I'll leave it here. It's not me, but one of the biggest ones of all time that UK fans will remember is what was Janine Edwards asking Billy Gillespie about Olez holding me to six points or whatever in the first half. And then he was just the biggest jerk ever said that's a, what he called, a dumb question, I think is what he said? He said this isn't the University of Jody Meeks, right?
Starting point is 00:19:19 Everybody says that he said that, but he didn't. Oh, I thought he did say that. Well, over time, everyone has made it that, but he says this is Kentucky. It's not Jody Meeks. Something, something, that's a really bad question. Yeah, live on the air during that time. But that one made everyone uncomfortable at home, how he just looked in the face and said that's a bad question when it was a good question.
Starting point is 00:19:37 Well, there you go. There's our uncomfortable interview segment. Ryan wins, by the way. Yeah, Ryan wins. For sure. Sure, sure. Not on your head. Call to the office after the show.
Starting point is 00:19:47 859-2802-287. That's our Clark's Puppet Shop phone line. If you want to get on board, we'll take some calls. We come back. You're on Kentucky Sports Radio. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough, Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,

And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff, like being an internet famous referee.
Starting point is 00:21:55 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, A, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office, Blue, 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:22:11 Where's she at? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. All right, welcome back, 859-280-2287. Tim McGraw tickets. Guy came in winning what his name is. Keith Jackson. Keith Jackson.
Starting point is 00:22:38 Went by him like a railroad going past a stump on a hot afternoon in Birmingham, Alabama. That's a good Keith Jackson. So look, we've got a couple more. You think we should ask for somebody else to come in, see if they've got a barbecue stain on their white t-shirt? Whatever you want to do to give them away? Did the guy actually have a barbecue stain? No.
Starting point is 00:22:57 No, he's wearing an ice green polo. We couldn't ask him to throw a barbecue sauce on that. I mean, we've got it. We've still got a half a show left. Let's go ahead and try to do it. If somebody else wants to come in. One more round. One more pair of tickets. Come on down.
Starting point is 00:23:08 And if you have a barbecue stain on your white t-shirt, we'll give you four tickets. Come on down. Is that sound all right? Yeah. Okay. Tim McGrawl contest. You don't even know who Tim McGraw is, right? I don't. I'm going to guess.
Starting point is 00:23:18 Country music artist? I just played them. Yeah, you just heard. Yeah, that's who Shannon just played. Shannon has found the interview of Billy Gillespie and Janine Edwards. So we're going to play that for you. We can relive this awkward, incredibly awkward moment. So go ahead.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Right now by two as we check in with Janine and Billy. Coach, so far, Ole Miss has been doing a pretty good job keeping Jody makes covered up. He's only got six points. What adjustments do you need to make for him second half? This is Kentucky. It's not Jody Meeks. He's a very good player. What difference does it make our teams ahead by two? Ole Miss is playing very good. This is not a one-man team, and that's really a bad question. What adjustments have you made on defense since the beginning of this first half? Well, they're doing a great job. They didn't turn it over at the start. They made all the threes and their whippiness on the offensive boards.
Starting point is 00:24:06 They have to do a better job of helping each other defensively. There you go. Wow. What? It only averaged about 24 points. I think it's fair to ask why he's not scoring. I think it was more than fair to ask that question. That was a really good question, by the way. It was. It was.
Starting point is 00:24:20 Good job, Janine. Yeah. There's also, when Cal walked away from Laura Rutledge, that was more, were they Missouri? There were students yelling Cal, you, something. I don't remember. But she asked him a question about the atmosphere, and he just looked at her and just walked off.
Starting point is 00:24:37 He left the standing. Yeah. Let the crowd noise do the answer for him. Uh, Drew's going to tell us about draft king. Yes. Ryan, let's sound the trumpets. Trumpets because it's horse racing time. Saddle up for the action with DK Horse, an official draft king's affiliate.

Starting point is 00:25:41 and eligibility restrictions apply. See terms at dkahorse.com. Very good. Lee K. Howard from WKYT said this on the aviation glass text machine. I had one of those situations years ago covering the Dallas Cowboys in training camp in a group interviewing Tony Romo and then John Kittner comes to his locker right beside me and changes his clothes two inches from me. Very awkward.
Starting point is 00:26:03 Another bingle. Another bingle. I'm telling you, man, the NFL locker rooms, that's a different animal. I'm going to say this is a common thing. NBA is the same way. Went to the Thunder on our KSR road trip. Matt and I went to interview Ennis. And it was like, oh, I forgot they do this year.
Starting point is 00:26:18 Hello, everyone. Hello. Good to see you. 859-2802-287. Who we got, Shannon? Doing good. Doing good. Go ahead, doing good.
Starting point is 00:26:26 How you doing? I'm always doing good, guys. Hope you are doing well today. I wanted to see if you could dispel the rumor that I'm trying to start with this phone call that Matt is actually not in Europe. You have designs on a hostile takeover, and you're going to be calling the show DSR for Drew, Shannon Ryan Sports Radio, and he's actually being held in an undisclosed houseboat with Jamestown, with Bob and Jamestown. Well, that would be a rough go for format.
Starting point is 00:26:57 Appreciate the phone call. But, yeah, Matt has been putting some pictures on Instagram. I think was he in Greece? Made it to Greece. Short trip to Italy. Didn't give Italy much time. No, already in Greece and had that beautiful picture of him having lunch overlooking a mountain. inside and all the coastline there.
Starting point is 00:27:13 Has he called you yet? No. But how long did it take him to not get on his phone? It was like 24 hours. He hasn't called you. He might after that George Murosung story you just told. Maybe the podcast won't be loaded correctly this time, Shannon. I know.
Starting point is 00:27:28 We'll amplify it. We'll take our break, come back, looking to give away some more Tim McGrawl tickets. Got some other stories tell you about as well right here on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience
Starting point is 00:28:36 in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible games. Yes, I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it.
Starting point is 00:28:53 And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:29:08 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:29:24 Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff, like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:29:44 What? Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:30:13 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Drew Shannon, and Super Mario here. We just gave away our winner of four Tim McGraw tickets because a dude walked in with a barbecue stain on his white t-shirt. Ryan Buckler.
Starting point is 00:30:31 When he was walking up, big stain, I wondered if it was really a barbecue sauce and he got a little closer. We could smell it. It's not just a little barbecue stain on his white t-shirt, Shannon. It covered the whole front of his shirt. shirt. Mario's got a picture of it. Marius was going to put it out. Did he just roll in it or something? I think he did. Casey Masterpiece, we even spotted the flavor. You can smell it. Why, when he gets close to you? It's legit. So he has earned those four tickets. Yes. Less than 10 minutes. Less than 10 minutes.
Starting point is 00:30:58 He wondered what his wife will think of him just covered himself in barbecue sauce. But the value here, we got to look at going out and getting a new white t-shirt versus four tickets to Tim McGraw. I'd say a great return on that investment in that shirt. So Drew had a good idea, Shannon. We're going to try to do this maybe tomorrow with another song lyric. I don't know where the green grass grows. I think you need to bring in an eight-year-old name Johnny that you've just been fishing with. I like that one. What other songs did he have?
Starting point is 00:31:24 I like it. I love it. I want some more of it. I don't know. Didn't he have a song? Come in and say that? Yeah. Well, we don't want to show our hand because we'll give people 24 hours.
Starting point is 00:31:35 So we got to zip it on the game. That's true. We don't want a carload of people ready to run in tomorrow. 859-8-0-2-287. Let's go back to the phone lines. Who we got, Shannon? Christy. Christy.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Go ahead, Christy. Hey, guys. I have a baseball question for Shannon and Ryan. Oh, yeah. Go ahead. When a bider hits a home run, do you all know immediately it's a home run? Depends on how far it was hit.
Starting point is 00:32:02 If it's a moonshot, yeah, you know immediately. As soon as you see it, leave the bat, you know. Now, if it's one of those that's maybe, you know, just barely sneaks over the wall, then you have to give it a look. But Ryan, I'm sure you've hit a few home runs, right? Did you hit any moonshots or were they just little bloopers that barely got over? No, I only hit three career home runs in college.
Starting point is 00:32:26 All three of them I thought it was like maybe going to be a double in the gap. So I'm flying, trying to get to second base and ends up looking up like, oh, it went over. It was kind of surprised it went over. Last weekend, Kentucky had several to the track. I mean, they felt great off the bat and just weren't enough. And then which game was it? Maybe Indiana State. They were playing Walts with Walsh Smith.
Starting point is 00:32:44 I can't talk. So deep that their left fielder had his feet on the warning track. He hit that one, 450 feet or something like that. Ryan Nicholson hit one. Ryan Nicholson's to answer a question, the one that almost landed on the soccer field, there was no question of that ball was going out. When you hit it like that, you know it's gone. I never got to hit one like that.
Starting point is 00:33:04 Are you a baseball guy? No, I'm not. I'm terrible at baseball. You're a basketball guy. Yeah, basketball. 859-2-802-287 who's next? Thanks for the call, Christy. Let's go to Terry.
Starting point is 00:33:14 Terry, go ahead, Terry. Hey, guys. I got a comment about the baseball bracket, but before I do that, I was out in about 10 minutes ago, went to Walmart. You know right up by where the self-checkout is they have their various and sundried candy and displays.
Starting point is 00:33:35 Oh, yeah. There's black jelly beans, and not only there, They're black jelly beans. They're jumbo. Who's going to buy those? Nobody's going to buy those. Well, I mean, there are a lot of sadistic people out there who would eat that.
Starting point is 00:33:48 Oh, my question on the bracket, Drew, Ryan, see what you think about this. I think the times of the game doesn't favor the two seed. It favors the 15th seed. You've got a 9 o'clock game on Sunday. That favors Oregon State. You've got to kind of make them pay for traveling that distance and a little bit of difference in the time zone. They got a break, I think, on the times of the games.
Starting point is 00:34:14 And then going forward, if we're going to advance, especially if we get to Omaha, do you think we can make a deep run with our eight and nine hole hitters? Those guys really hurt us in big situations, in particular, McCoy, because he strikes out a lot and I'll hang up and listen. Thanks. Appreciate it. Yeah, I mean, I am kind of surprised the second game is such a late start at 9 o'clock at night on a Sunday night here in the eastern time zone.
Starting point is 00:34:41 That does seem to definitely favor Oregon State. I agree with them. I think they took care of Oregon State a little bit. You know, they're traveling across the country. Had to go a little bit on Monday. I was hoping we have a Friday game. I said that before it came out. And then just the time of day, them being out on the West Coast,
Starting point is 00:34:54 I wouldn't have to get up a little earlier than they used to and have to play some baseball. So it looks like they were taking care of a little bit. But you know what? Kentucky's going to have the crowd on their side and they should still get this done. We won't make an excuse that the timing favors the beavers a little bit. You think that probably TV played into it, and maybe the fact that they can be on ESPNU, maybe that's kind of played into it, you know.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Yeah, it does stink, though, the 9 p.m., when I have a friend, he's already texted me about offering his tickets because he wanted to take his kids 9 p.m. on a Sunday night, that's not an atmosphere where I think you're going to see a lot of kids out there. Hopefully we have the ones behind the plate, though. We need the kids, but the timing did not help out the fan base. Shannon, who's this segment sponsored by? I'm glad you asked.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Don Franklin. Summer is on at Don Franklin. They've got the largest inventory of new, used, and certified pre-owned vehicles in the state. 27 dealerships all across the bluegrass. The Don Franklin family is there to serve all your auto needs. Starting point is 00:36:07 Kia, Mitsubishi, Ford Lincoln, Genesis Cadillac, and now Toyota. You can steer your way over to Don Franklinletto.com. Don Franklinletto.com driven by family. 859-280-287. That's our phone number. Who we got? Let's talk to Scott. Scott.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Scott. Yes. I'm wanting to comment on the first part of the show with Biren and talking about can you hang on with a landline? Is this an iPhone for? Scott, are you still there? Is it calling from the moon? Well, let's try somebody else, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Billy and I were just talking about the iPhone 5. I heard that conversation. I think that was the iPhone 5 right there. I think that was a rotary phone. That had to be. Let's try one more then. Who we got? All right, let's go to Stacy.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Stacy, go ahead, Stacy. Hey, guys, this is Stacy Ryan, your old friend from Sam's Club. I was on my way into work and heard you talking about awkward moments, and I've actually got one on you. Uh-oh. We were someplace, and I don't remember the context of where we were, but you were introducing me to some of your friends, and you said, yeah, this is Stacy such and such.
Starting point is 00:37:31 He works at Rufferina, and he has an unhealthy obsession with my wife. Well, was it true? No. Not at all, but I'm standing there for the first time meeting somebody, and it was somebody in the TV business. I don't remember exactly who it was. But the first time I'm meeting them and here you throw out that I have an unhealthy obsession with your wife. Well, great. Thanks, Stacey.
Starting point is 00:37:59 Good to catch up and talk about good old times. Wait a way to introduce them to some new people, Ryan. I'll hook you up next time, Stacy. I appreciate it, brother. Thank you. What? Wait a minute, what? Okay.
Starting point is 00:38:10 You know, I guess I got to take me of these words that I'm supposed. probably did that. I believe him. It sounds like an awkward situation for him. That was an awkward situation. Let's go to another phone call, Shannon. He got a whole phone calls. He rushed him off the line.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Yeah, let's go ahead and take another phone call. Who he got there? Nobody. Stacey's back. Oh, nobody. Stacey did not call back. We didn't answer about the end of the batting order, James McCoy and Grant Smith.
Starting point is 00:38:36 Grant Smith could walk up there and not swing a single time, and he's still awesome. What he does at the field of the show? shortstop. Those web jims he had on Sunday were insane. And then McCoy, yeah, didn't have a great regional, but I'll say this, his walk-up song is Natasha Bettingfield and nothing gets the crowd going more than James McCoy coming to the plate. Yeah, it does. We even, I don't know what this is, but you take your arms, I'm doing them now. It's his radio, but you wave them up and down. I'm still learning all the tricks. The best is yet unwritten. Was that the name of the song? Yep, that's right.
Starting point is 00:39:06 We'll play that, and we'll do our little arm or arm rotation. Well, unwritten. 859-2-802-2-87. I do have another story I want to share with you. back in the day when my boys were little i used to coach him in baseball and i had this real good player his name was hunter pin i had him for like five years hunter pin oh i was thinking pence hunter pinn he now starts for transylvanian basketball he's a basketball player at transylvania cool but every practice he'd come to his little brother would always come to practice and his little brother would stand over there in foul territory with his glove on just staring at me just just big oh eyes just staring at
Starting point is 00:39:42 at me. So at the end of practice, you know, the little brother was probably four years younger than him. Little brother, you know, if Hunter's eight, he's four, he's a little compared to all of our guys. I didn't want him to get hurt. Yeah. So we'd put him on the pitcher's mound, and I'd hit him a little slow ground ball. He'd pick it up and zing! Zing at the first. Like, oh, this kid's not bad. So the more we practiced, the more I'd hit him a little harder, moved him over to second base. But he would always wait. I always remember this. He would always wait on the side of the field with his gloves. on his hat on just wait for that chance where I would let him come in and practice with us he was better than some of our kids who were eight years old guess who was just named the kentucky
Starting point is 00:40:21 gatorade high school baseball player of the year hunter's little brother hunter's little brother taylor pin was just named got to start young gatorade high school player of the year plays for woodford county he's been the eighth region player of the year like two years in a row he's going to go play at western kentucky i am so proud of him And he's, you know, he used to play basketball. He's a good athlete. He's like 6-4, 6-5. Got him listed at 6-5 in the Gatorade announcement.
Starting point is 00:40:48 Yeah. Bit pitcher. So it's just kind of cool to see little Taylor Penn from the guy that used to just beg to get on the field. Just for practice is now the Gatorade player of the year. Do you think you deserve any of a bit of the coaching credit? Yeah, I think all of it. The way I used to hit him those ground balls. Yeah, let him play the pitchers.
Starting point is 00:41:06 Somebody's got to hit the ground balls to him and throwing the first base. So congratulations to Taylor Penn. We're proud of it. All right. Cool. Shout out Taylor. We have a call, Shannon? Yeah, we do.
Starting point is 00:41:16 Let's go to retired ref. Retired ref calling back. How are you, sir? Ryan, in honor of Myron's Mary Mondays, you live there? Go ahead. Go ahead, retired, we hear. Okay. You've got, I put together for you since you got Mary Mondays, you got Talk About Tuesdays.
Starting point is 00:41:41 That'd be what you want to talk about. All right. Y'all do that on on questions Friday. You ask anything I think is
Starting point is 00:41:49 what you've normally done about that but that's it and then what in the world on Wednesdays and somebody
Starting point is 00:41:58 had to come up with something around the world as far as the conversation peace. And then
Starting point is 00:42:06 thankful Thursdays and lastly forget about it Fridays which simply is something that you really want to forget about in your past.
Starting point is 00:42:17 And y'all have done stuff like that. All right, retired ref. We appreciate it. We'll send it to the KSR offices and see how it comes back. Speaking of Friday, we do have a scheduling change on Friday. Peter Burns was supposed to host the show Friday with you and Shannon. He's had a family situation arise, so he's had to cancel. We're going to postpone.
Starting point is 00:42:35 Postpone. He said he asked for a later date. Couldn't do this Friday. So out of the bullpen is Jeff Picoro going to come in on with you on Friday? Yeah, he'll be hosting. Obviously, Jeff does a lot of radio. Does the football broadcast with Tom. We'll have lots of questions about that.
Starting point is 00:42:51 He knows a little bit of Reds baseball. He's been around UK a long time, so I'm sure we'll hear plenty of good things from Jeff. Looking forward to it. He's very good on the radio. Yes. He now works at Channel 36, ABC 36, did radio for years and years and years up in Cincinnati,
Starting point is 00:43:05 so it'll be fun to have him in here doing it. You know, he's best buddies with Kenny McPeak that just won the Kentucky Derby. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah. Maybe he can get it. Kenny McPeek to come in and tell us what it's like to be a derby winner. They're Tate's Creekers. They both went to Creek together.
Starting point is 00:43:17 And he'll have plenty to say about UK baseball because I ran into Jeff Sunday as Kentucky was winning that region. So I know he was there being a part of it. And Friday will be the day before starts the super. So I'm sure we'll get into a lot of that as well. And Tom Hart will be here tomorrow. Hosting KSI. I'm excited for that. It should be a good show.
Starting point is 00:43:34 The college just reminded me, we got to get Shannon's clock back. With Tom, you know, Tom's doing his own thing on Wednesdays. Isn't that when Matt was doing it? One of these Tuesday, Thursdays, we need to get the bell going. I like it. Maybe like 25 second Tuesdays. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:48 All right. We'll take our final break. Come back. Our final segment, 859, 280, 280, 2287. Ryan Drew, Shannon and Mario. We'll be right back. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.

Starting point is 00:46:22 Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. We're doing the arm motion here at KS Bar and Grill. This is Natasha Benifield's song that is James McCoy's walk-up song. Made me miss the Kentucky Proud Park after spending three days there. I feel like I should be in my seat. That's got to be our Whiskey Thief song of the day, I guess, Shannon, right? I think so. Yeah, unless you get a better one. It works, man.
Starting point is 00:46:45 The whole, like Drew said, the whole ballpark gets into it now. It's kind of cool to watch it happen, so that's our Whiskey Thief song of the day. We talked earlier about Birmingham Southern Baseball. There's all these great stories keep coming out about it. After the game was over, after they lost in the Division III World Series, instead of taking a plane ride home, they decided the whole team decided to take a 12-hour bus ride home just to have one more road trip together. Well, that's pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:47:09 That's awesome. That's awesome. I love it. I wish they were still going. be my third favorite team. Maybe you can start up the school. Go down there and be like, you know what? I want to help her.
Starting point is 00:47:20 I want to help you. I hope they get a warm greeting when they get back, too, because seeing those fans that they had, I mean, they're still a little passion around there. Got to be. And I think if that's your alma mater, now you don't even have a school to root for. So, all right, 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:47:35 Who's next, Shannon? Allen. Alan, go ahead, Alan. First time caller. Hey, Alan, thanks for calling. Hey, yeah, my question was about the best of basketball team, when do they officially begin to practice together, like with the coach? I'm not certain, but I think it's Monday.
Starting point is 00:47:52 Isn't it this coming Monday? Well, they're moving in. I don't know the exact practice rules of what they're able to do, but they will all be on campus. Some of them are already here as we've seen moving in. They'll all be here by next week. Yeah. I think next week's the day. Maybe if it's not Monday, they can probably start working out individual workouts and things.
Starting point is 00:48:09 They'll certainly be in there working out. I don't know with, like, coaching and stuff what they're able to do. But, I mean, it's here. They'll be here soon, the ones that aren't already. Mario, do you see any of them yet? I haven't seen any in person, though. No, I have not. Running around town or anything.
Starting point is 00:48:23 We saw Kerr-Krisa with his left-handed golf clubs. I've seen a couple others move in. The Kentucky boys move in Thursday, and next week they'll all be together. Well, Travis Perry's playing in that All-Star game this weekend. Friday, Saturday, and I guess I assume, like Tyler Doyle said, they'll all move in on Sunday. I guess Travis Perry will be getting ready for the Oscar game in his own dorm. him over here. That's true.
Starting point is 00:48:44 That's true. I guess Trent Noah, though, is not playing in the All-Star game I saw. I don't think he's on the roster. No, he wasn't in there, but I don't know the reasoning for that. Yeah. He'll be moving in a couple days. 859-2-2-287. Anybody else, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:48:57 No. All right. Drew has a good story to tell to us that I think you enjoy, Shannon, because it's involved one of your heroes. Okay. Sometimes our communication gets a little funny at eye-heart. You all understand. We don't dare it out, but just a little.
Starting point is 00:49:12 gets a little muddled. Yeah. So I went in, I got up very early yesterday after being at the baseball game all night Sunday because these emergency ads I got all caps that had to be done by Monday morning. And I'm thinking, how did I miss this? This is the first I've heard of it. I even get Billy. Billy goes in before the pre-show, sets me up with a microphone.
Starting point is 00:49:32 I'm editing my own ads. It takes quite a bit of time. Yeah. But that's fine. If we need to do these ads, we've got to get them out, Ryan. You get another one you need to do, by the way. Monday morning. Yeah, they need another one from you guys.

Click on the link to contact the members of Congress and tell them, very politely, to keep cornbread hemp legal. That's cornbread hemp.com slash KSR to keep cornbread hemp legal.
