Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes,
Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
A rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.

This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now here's Matt Jones.
All right. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.
Welcome. This is the Wednesday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio.
Wednesday, June the 5th, rainy Wednesday.
We just heard some sirens going off.
Don't know if that's the testing the system.
or the storms are a coming, but Ryan and Drew and Shannon were still efforting Tom Hart.
He must be out like finishing up his six-mile jog this morning.
Well, I think Tom was on time.
I think it's us that have our technicals are being difficult again.
Is that?
I don't want it to sound like Tom's late.
It's on our end, I believe.
Well, the funny thing is he texted me late last night, like about 11 o'clock,
said, I can't do it tomorrow.
Sorry, bud.
And that was it.
That was the entire text.
Now all of a sudden he, if we're having trouble getting it, he makes me wonder,
Well, maybe he was being not being funny.
He was being real.
Well, GM, Billy is efforting.
You know, I bragged about Billy yesterday at the end of the show.
We're starting today's show with Billy back at work hard, but hopefully we hear from Tom soon.
So, as always, Canks Sports Radio is sponsored every edition by the T.J.
Smith Law Office.
Drew, you do it.
What does he do?
He will make you pay.
Make them pay.
Them or you?
Make you pay?
No, he won't make you pay as the class.
No.
But I mean, he's saying to make you pointing at the other people.
He's going to make them pay.
Yeah.
Tom's calling me. Let me answer this.
You guys carry on.
And we'll have our Whiskey Thief Song of the Day.
Our Clark's Pump and Shop phone numbers, 859-2-802-287.
And we may eventually get our Kentucky-branded tweet, call, text of the day.
All that coming up on this edition of Kentucky Sports Radio.
A lot to talk about today, so we're hoping Big Tommy gets in here.
A lot of people excited about it.
Mario made a couple really cool graphics promoting Tom Hart's appearance on the show today, so we're ready to go.
Maybe some guests.
You know, the group text was very active last night trying to plan.
a show. I'm just so proud of everyone. This is so new to me. I'm used to just showing up and not
having a clue what's going on. And once again, even though he's not here on the air with us,
there is at least some prep going into today's show. Well, you mentioned surprise guests. We are
going to get Coach Mingeon. There was a chance when I called yesterday he was going to come actually
and join us here at the restaurant, but they've got like a bunch of media obligations going on this
morning and meetings and stuff getting ready for the Super Regional this weekend. So he's going to call in and
join us at 1130. I'm excited about getting Coach Minge on this morning.
Him, and I think Tom mentioned West Clements from the PAC 12.
We'll pull back the curtain on Oregon State.
You know, we don't know a whole lot about Oregon State baseball if we're being honest with our listeners.
So he's going to hop on and educate us all before the big supers this weekend.
Or at least that's what I was told in our show notes.
In our show prep text messages.
You know, when we talked about Oregon State yesterday, we knew that Rich Brooks was from there.
Yeah, played there.
Mitch Barnhart was there as an AD for a while.
I did remember that Chad Johnson and T.J. Hushmanzada were both Oregon State guys that played for the Bengals.
Do you know anything else about the Oregon State Beavers?
Doesn't Cal do a podcast with the coach, a former coach, like Obama's brother-in-law or something?
Is that an Oregon State coach?
I believe so. I can't give you the name, but he at one time coached Oregon State.
So now, ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, here he is.
6-3, 205 pounds.
just finished his six-mile jog this morning,
a graduate of the University of Misery.
Ladies gentlemen, give it up for Mr. Tom Hart.
Yay.
I haven't been 205 pounds in quite some time,
but I appreciate that.
Thank you.
We're trying to give you, you know.
Very complimentary.
Yeah, you look like you're slim and trim ready to go.
Yes, absolutely.
Are we ready to rock?
I have so many things I want to talk about,
but I don't know what you,
it's not that big
but I'm a big guy in a chair
I don't know how far you got
while I was waiting to get hooked up
how was bingo night
it's funny you should ask that
Tom because Drew and I absolutely
stunk at bingo last night
hold on
hold on it's not like trivia night
Drew bingo shouldn't be that hard
all you need is to you'll call
out the numbers and then come up with a catchy
tune like hey got that bingo
yeah I got that bingo
And that's all you have to do.
Drew, what did you screw up?
Well, the problem to have the catchy bingo tune, Tom, is you have to have a bingo.
And looking around the tables near me, I was not even close to all the dots they had.
Me, neither.
It was my first bingo experience, and my big takeaway is I had a blast booing the winners.
And then about halfway through the night, someone told Ryan and me that that doesn't really happen in other bingos.
But Ryan and I were just booing the heck out of whoever won.
And that was my favorite part.
Turns out that might not be a good bingo etiquette.
Our friend Rhonda had a bingo one night.
We're like...
Other than that, that's as close as we got to a bingo.
But we had a good time.
There's not a whole lot of credit to be taken when you win bingo.
It's pure luck.
So in that regard, you shouldn't boo people who win bingo because they didn't do anything.
They just happened to have the right card.
Oh, I think it's a proper bingo.
Are you a sore loser no matter what?
100% yes absolutely yes somebody's yelling bingo and i'm maybe close or getting closer i'm booing them
yeah absolutely that's proper bingo etiquette eventually a small child next to us joined us so we became a party of three
we set the tone for future generations true i am uh i don't know if i'm shocked or pleasantly surprised
this was your first bingo experience how did you make it to this point in life without ever having played bingo
before. I mean, I guess I've played bingo.
You know, at a friend's house, you got a little game,
or maybe we played at school or
a church when I was younger, but I've never
been to like a bingo night.
People are showing up, being competitive.
We got prizes. There's people booing.
Yes. I've never done the full bingo
experience. So in that form,
last night was my first. I've played
the game bingo before in a small setting,
but never championship level
like we had here at KS Park.
Shannon, do you think it's fair etiquette
to boo somebody who, at the next
table wins bingo no because like you said i mean there is no talent whatsoever in bingo which is probably
why it's so popular it's just basically the lottery so ryan do you go like to your local convenience
store and boo lottery ticket winners like when they get a scratch-off win because that's essentially what
you're doing when you're booing a winner of bingo you realize i would i would stand out there and boom yes the number of
my grandma i'm booing you i'm here to win we got your bing your o right here's right here's
one more thing tom about bingo last night one time there was a tie
Two people bingoed at the same time.
So they asked Drew how should they break the tie?
They asked you too.
They asked the both of us.
And you came up with the proper way to break a tie and bingo.
Well, I just said rock paper scissors.
I feel like it's pretty lazy way.
I wouldn't really pay attention.
But that's as as wild as it got.
So that's how they broke the tie with rock paper scissors.
Wait, hold on a second.
When you have a tie and bingo, you split the pot.
That is simple bingo rules.
Everybody knows this.
You can't.
You don't then turn to another game.
game. Like if you're tied in a basketball game, you don't then say, let's have a home run derby.
You keep playing basketball or you keep playing bingo.
Who's making up these random rules?
Nobody wants to split a pot. Who wants to split a pot? It's winner go home with nothing.
We had to have one winner.
I think what you're saying, Drew, it's win or get booed.
That's true.
But we had fun. We missed you. You should have been here.
You haven't been to KS Bar in a while. We need you to stop by.
I'm not coming to Cass Bar until Shannon puts on a Wonder Woman costume.
It's coming.
Weeks from tonight.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
If you can find an acceptable costume, I will wear it.
First of all, I was told Wonder Woman's not even Marvel.
So that disqualifies her right there.
Not with that attitude.
Well, I don't follow comics, so I'm not sure if she's part of Marvel or not.
But if you can find another costume, I'll play along.
I'll wear it.
You are our resident cross-dressers.
So why not put where the Wonder Woman costume?
Well, I will remind you, Ryan, you once dressed up as a saloon girl in an old-time photo in Sedona, Arizona.
Oh, that's true, too.
I did do that.
Yeah.
We should not start throwing rocks.
There are too many glass houses around.
Let's just avoid every Wednesday let's avoid throwing rocks because they can get dicey.
I was thinking about it before I came on this morning and I was trying to figure out exactly how to get connected because technology is not my strong suit.
I don't know, guys, if I would be doing this.
How many weeks did I sign out for?
Like 11, 9?
All of June and all July.
Yeah.
You're in for the long haul this summer.
That's a commitment.
That is a commitment.
Cool, football season.
Okay, I don't know about that.
I don't know if I'd be doing this if John Caliperi still the head coach of Kentucky.
Because you know what happens?
Well, we know what that relationship turns.
into between Matt and Cal, right?
Yes.
And then we've all, any one of us who's an adult has had to go through at some point
or another divorce friendships.
Yes.
Like you're friends with a couple and they get divorced.
And now of a sudden, your wife or maybe you're on the other end says, no, no, you
can't be friends with him anymore.
Like we have to choose one or the other.
Yeah.
So I really feel like I would have been in a tough spot.
had both parties still been in Lexington to commit to doing nine weeks of this show.
So because you're saying you have a great, you have a good relationship with both with Matt and with Coach Cal.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And it's not just Cal, it's other people in his, in his circle, right?
And especially on his staff.
It got really, it got really dice.
I thought about that for a moment.
I thought, I don't know if this would be a good idea if, if,
Kyle was still there. Now, luckily, I'm off the hook.
Drew, do you feel me? You see where I'm coming from with that?
I know what you're saying. Hopefully you would pick us over anyone at the end of the day.
Any divorces we go through, when that line is drawn, hope your team, KSR.
I understand it would have been a little awkward when that call came if Cal were still around.
You know all of them very well. Been covering Kentucky, well, the Kentucky sports for a long time.
So that would put you in a tough spot as we were. We had a small family beef.
here in Big Blue Nation.
Small family beef.
Oswell that ends well.
Shannon, have you ever lost...
Shannon, have you ever lost a friend
due to another relationship falling apart?
Oh, yeah.
Or being too long?
Yeah, yeah.
It's happened several times.
And then you got to choose your alliance, right?
Then you find out who your real friends are,
depending on which side you go with.
So, yeah, it's a little awkward when that happens,
but I think it happens to all of us at some point or another.
it's like survivor yeah you have to what who do i need to align myself with what is the smartest thing
so as as an outsider looking in when all that was going on uh did you think
that cow was being a little too thin skinned just because we were being a little critical of
what was going on you think it was like us as media guys we had we had to call a spade a spade you
know i thought okay i'm going to answer every question honestly because that's what this
That's what our relationship is based on, right?
I thought Matt, by the way, where is Matt today?
He's like in...
He's in Greece.
Somewhere in Europe.
Yeah, he's in Greece.
I believe it still, yeah.
So we can talk smack.
Like he'd be won at bingo and he's not going to hear it.
So I'm perfectly fine with that.
I thought it got a little too personal on both sides.
Yeah.
Because I just don't think that's a healthy way to go through life.
And I thought the way there was a point in the season,
where Matt said, and he was hesitant to say this,
it kind of compared it to the Joker Philip stuff,
but there's a point in the season,
it's like, but something's got to change.
Something's got to change.
And I thought to myself,
but unless something wild and crazy happens,
which going to Arkansas is wild and crazy,
it's not going to change.
And so you're setting yourself up
for a very awkward next 13 months,
if that would have been, you know, the final year.
It's kind of like Barkley and the inside of the NBA guys.
If they're done, they still have another year left on the contract, it's going to be really weird.
Like, nobody benefits from lame duck situations.
So that's kind of, that was my perspective on the whole thing.
And I also think that sometimes in life, we get so worried about what's happening in our little tunnel, our little room, our house, our hallway.
When in reality, if you, like, you ever share a story about, let's say, a work frustration.
And you share a story about a work frustration with somebody else.
It could be a sibling who's in another state or somebody who's not in your industry or doesn't know your coworkers.
And they look at you and they go, so what?
Like that sounds like a very minor thing.
And you try to defend yourself by saying, no, no, no, this is one of like 14 things.
And I didn't tell you about this, this, this.
And they just look at you like, can't you just let it go and move on to the next thing?
Shannon you ever have people come at you like that like
dude I know that's frustrating but what are you talking about like that seems so
minor yeah like that's your problem deal with it okay I'm not your counselor
what do you want me to do about it right yeah we've all got friends like to us like that
Shannon's the last guy I'm going to call when I have a problem
I'm not your counselor deal with it
oh yeah I just felt like they you know both sides probably got a little too worried
about what was going on on the other side
like if you're the basketball coach, your job is to win games.
Who cares what anybody says about you?
And why use that as momentum or motivation?
Your motivation should be, let me get my guys ready to play.
Let's go win games.
Let's make sure we're coaching them up.
And on the other side, you know, I don't know.
I can't really see it from, I'm not going to throw stones at Matt,
but I think it must be very hard when you've had a relationship with somebody
and then that's gone, I think it takes a really strong person to try and cover them without
it feeling personal, even if it doesn't get personal.
Judy, would it feel personal even though you don't let it get personal in that scenario?
I know what you're saying, and I agree with it a little bit, but at the end of day,
once the Oakland thing happened, any personal beefs, none of that mattered.
Like the whole fan base was on fire at that point.
whatever Matt and Cal had behind the scenes.
You know, if they had had a sweet 16 and went in the next year,
it might have gotten even more petty.
But after Oakland, none of those little things, I think, mattered at all.
And that's why we're in the situation where we are now.
That's why it was weird for a few years.
But the postseason a few months ago changed everything.
Oh, wait, is that Tom on a computer?
I just realized I can see you guys on.
He just had his hat on backwards.
And when we realized we could see each other,
he turned these hat around the other way.
When did we even get a computer?
There's so much to learn here.
Mario has set all this up for us.
Okay, thank you, Mario.
Yeah, so now we see your face.
Mario's big time.
Your hat on backwards like you're playing for Sandlot right now.
You've got golden tea?
He does have golden tea.
What are we doing here?
Look at that.
Let's go.
All right, listen, if we're seeing Tom's audience, I wish we could share it with everyone.
Maybe a screenshot later.
Okay, we'll do that.
Mario will put something together.
Definitely.
All right, we've got to talk to Mario when we come back to.
All right, I got a lot more to talk about.
We're going to talk about summer vacation because I know Ryan's had a terrible one or two.
We're going to cover more on divorce friends,
and we're also going to get set for the baseball super regional this weekend.
We're going to talk.
We've got a guy coming on that actually knows Oregon State, so we don't have to guess.
All right.
So Shannon tells me I'm supposed to go to break, and I don't know how to do that.
So what do I say, Ryan?
You just say we'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
We might be right back.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth.
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

All right, welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio.
Tom Hart with the guys.
Here's kind of what we have on tap for this one.
We're going to get everybody set for the backcats and the Super Regional this weekend against Oregon State.
Ryan, I heard you talk a little bit about it.
What do you know about the Beavers?
I gave you all my knowledge that Rich Brooks played there.
Mitch Barnhart was athletic director there,
and two receivers, Chad Johnson and T.J. Hushmanjada were both there at the same time,
and then both played for the Bengals at the same time.
That's kind of the gist of my Oregon State beaver knowledge right there.
All of it.
That's pretty much it.
Drew, have you ever seen a beaver live and in person?
None comes to mind.
In high school, I had an Oregon State beaver's hat because I thought that was cool.
That's about my only connection to Oregon State.
I do know one thing that they must have the NCAA in their pocket because this 9 p.m.
crap on a Sunday and not having to play a.
Friday game. It's clear they're a college baseball darling that they get to come to our town and
we get to put times around them. They want to stay at my house. What else can we do for Oregon State while
they're coming to Lexington? Are they the home team? That's all for you TV people, Tom.
We know it's all that, Tom. You TV people. I know you have thoughts about this. What's up with
the number two overall seed, just having to accommodate the beavers? I'm sorry you're on the other side
of the country. That's not our problem. That's no bluenot, as we say. That's bad. That is bad.
programming right there.
I don't know, Shannon, by the way, I don't know
what time we have to break to get Wes on
at 1030, so you keep me honest
on that. I got you. Yeah. But
West was, West Clements was
a Hall of Famer at Arizona, great
baseball player, works for ESPN. He called
their regional, Oregon State's
regional. He knows them really well.
And I've been at Corvallis. Like, Corvallis
is an awesome town. It's not that
far from where they shot the Goonies.
All right? So, like, that's what you need to picture.
Picture the Oregon Coast and
Goonies.
Ryan just lit up
Ryan, what was your favorite part of Goonies?
I'm trying to figure out which one was the Goonies.
That's the one you can't get them wet and you can't keep them up.
No, my goodness.
That's the Gremlins, dude.
How do you not know the Goonies?
Hey, you guys.
Come on, you know, the Goonies.
Ryan?
I don't know if I can recall this one.
They're looking for one on Willie, the pirate ship.
Nothing?
No, what year did this come out?
If this was my college years, I didn't see it.
85.
This is about 85.
Okay, that was going from high school to college.
And, you know, you're thinking about girls and baseball.
You're not thinking about the Goonies.
So I don't think I saw the Goonies ever.
Ever?
Ever?
Ever?
Ever?
Not even on HBO over the years?
No.
I'm fairly certain I've never seen the Goonies.
I don't know anything about it.
Did you see the original Top Gun?
Oh, yeah.
I saw the original.
Okay, that was 1985.
You were free for Top Gun.
He was free for Goonies?
Because you're taking your girl to see.
Top Gun, you know, you're hoping for a little
pown chica-paw-pow-pow when it's over or something like that.
So that's why you go through Top Gunn,
not Goonies.
Tom, we have a whole summer of this.
The lyrics to that song that you just tried to sing was
brown chicken, brown cow.
Everybody knows.
Try it again, same tune.
Put the words brown-chicken, brown cow into it.
Pow-chicapau means a little something different.
No, brown chicken, brown cow, it's a saint.
But it's just, it comes,
I was told.
after Monday's episode that I had to sing.
That is the extent of my singing right now.
Your boy, Myron sang Al Green and who are the other people he sang?
Mostly Al Green.
Luther Vandross.
Luther Vandross.
So we suspect nine months from now, there may be a lot of, maybe a bump in verse in Kentucky
after what Myron did on Monday.
You think at 11 a.m. on a Monday?
People are reacting to his voice.
The ladies were melting.
We were getting people calling in.
Is Myron single?
Can is Myron have a girlfriend?
Is Myron married?
They were like all wanting to jump on Myron.
Literally.
We're going to make it through this summer one way or another.
I don't know how you're going to make it through this summer.
This is going to be quite the journey.
How long is our next break, Shannon?
I want to be on time with our...
We got a couple of minutes until the break.
We've got a couple of callers, too.
We can throw in if you want.
Oh, yeah, let's grab a collar.
Let's do it.
All right, let's start with Rhonda.
Oh, this is Bingo Rhonda.
Oh.
Hey, Tom.
Just welcome back.
You're one of BBN's favorites.
But I had to call today, I had to call today to make fun of Drew and Ryan.
So KS Bar had bingo last night, and our table won, and poor Ryan and Drew won nothing.
It was pitiful.
I felt so sorry for them.
Boo!
How to feel to get booed, Rhonda.
Yeah, so I'm just challenged both of them with Singo at KS Bar in a couple of weeks.
Bring it.
Bring it, Rhonda.
Rhonda, what did you win?
I won KS Bar gift cards.
So see, it's a win situation.
Yeah, it's cool.
On a scale of 1 to 10, Rhonda, how much skill does Bingo take?
10 being the most.
10 being hitting 100-mile an hour fastball.
Well, you have to know your numbers, and Brian really doesn't.
So, you know, they're sad.
I almost put on our group chat last night.
His homework was to work on his 8th.
And obviously, he did not work on his 8th or his B-I's NGOs.
Rhonda, congrats on the big win.
Rhonda cheated.
That's the thing.
Rhonda, I think her table was cheating over there.
Stop.
I would not let you slowly Rhonda's good name.
Thank you, Tom.
Thank you.
Rhonda, thanks for calling in.
We've got to go to break.
Kenny Loggins will take us into the danger zone.
Thank you, Rhonda, and we will talk Oregon State Baseball
and give you all you need to know about the beavers when we return on KSR.

Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Quarterback on office blue of 42.
Hey, Rhett, my mama want you to weigh better.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.

Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
definitely not bad Jones
some heart joined by Shannon
Drew Ryan
Mario is in Lexington
and I'm in Atlanta
and Shannon is in Louisville
and we're happy to be joined
by Wes Clements on the phone
West was an Arizona
Hall of Famer and won a
national championship with the Wildcats
part of the Conference
of Champions it is no more
he was on the call for the
formalist regional so all the
backtack fans trying to figure out who exactly
these beavers of Oregon State are
Wes is going to help us. Wes, how are you today?
Fabulous, Tom Hart. How are you?
I'm sensational. Thank you for taking time out of your morning to join us.
The Kentucky baseball fans are thrilled about the third super regional in school history,
but as you know, Kentucky baseball is kind of new to the scene. Since Nick Mingeon got there,
he took them to their first super back when they played at their old ballpark.
And so I guess this is the first ever match up with Oregon State.
What would you tell this fan base about what they need to know just from a very basic?
Well, we seem to be having some technical difficulties with.
Is it Tom's connection with you?
Is that what we lost?
I think so.
Yeah.
So do we still have the Oregon State coach?
We can talk to him until you get rehooked up.
Do we still have our guests?
We'll pick it up.
I think everybody just dropped off.
So now I think it's an issue with our phones.
Okay, well, Drew and I will pick it up and you can communicate with Tom and get it reset.
Okay.
Yeah, Ryan, I will chat while you fix that.
Okay.
We'll hit a couple news topics of the day while Tom and Shannon reconnect.
That's true.
Ugana Onienzo announced yesterday he's committed to Kansas State.
Did you not mention Kansas State as a possible destination?
I was trying to remember.
I said something jokingly.
I just tried to think of a random school.
It might have been Kansas State.
I did not at all know anything or think of anything.
I was trying to be funny.
Regardless, this was a little bit, you know, out of left field.
You know, he had a long list.
He was in the draft, not coming back, then in the draft coming back.
You know, he remembered last year he tried to leave Kentucky and came back.
Just trying to track what Hugo is doing in college basketball.
It's been quite the event for a couple years.
But then yesterday it becomes official he's going to Kansas State, which is just a weird pick, I think.
You know, I wish him the best.
I like Hugo.
I hope it works out.
But I just think back to two years ago, Jerome Tang, the Kansas State coach, talking about how Kentucky didn't have any dudes.
Hugo was on that team.
It's just weird.
It's a weird pick.
I don't know.
It seemed to come out of nowhere.
But the list he was considering.
I didn't even know they were even in the mix.
But that's where he's headed.
Well, you and I were talking about it last night at Bingo, and you said, you know, I think I may have mentioned.
jokingly, Kansas State as a potential for Ugo, and we were talking about him.
And I think, you know what?
I think you did say Kansas State.
He was looking like Alabama.
Louisville was in the mix.
Maybe North Carolina.
You know, he had a list.
Okay.
But Kansas State was not one we expected.
It sounds like our guests are back on and ready to go.
So Tom, you all pick it back right up where you were.
Okay.
I'm sorry to interrupt the Ugo talk.
Les.
Are you with us?
Oh, no.
Oh, we got you.
Wes, we got you.
You're there.
I'm here, and I know you're somewhere over there.
Some other people are over there, and we have technology.
Where is Oregon State?
I mean, we know geographically where it is,
but they have a guy, Travis Bezano, their second baseman,
who is going to be a top five pick in the draft.
What else do these fans need to know about the Beavers?
Well, I think it's more, I mean, I can go over the team and then you start looking at the program, right?
The pack case you built, Mitch Cannon took it over.
And it's kind of stayed where it was.
And it's an elite program.
You mentioned, you know, Travis Bezana.
There's been so much said about him.
Obviously, he's going to be most likely a.
top five draft pick this year, but he's a talent.
There's no question about it, and he can't miss him.
And, you know, I think the best part of Travis Bazauna is his character and who he is off
the field.
He shows up to Little League games to watch Little League players play that came to watch him
play because he promised him he would.
That's who this kid is.
I think the story, how he got over here coming from a lot of.
Australia, goes out to him and his buddy, Jimmy Natai, who plays at Stanford.
They came out to a trial camp in Phoenix, and then that's how he ended up at Oregon State,
and then Jimmy said, no, I'm going to go to Stanford.
But super, super player.
The lineup itself is a problem.
Most of the time you know, Tom, as skippers, they'll look at the other lineup,
And then I go, okay, so where are my free spots?
In other words, where are guys that we can pretty much, we think we can get out?
They don't have any free spots.
And it starts with Bazaana, and then it goes with Micah McVell, who plays center field,
then it goes with Gavin Turley, who leads the team in RBIs.
But Gavin Turley's hit five, five Grand Slams this year, which is kind of dumb.
It's just crazy.
I also think, Wes, I think it's hard sometimes to appreciate,
and I'll let you talk about Oregon State's style overall,
but given the climate that they play in,
you know, we see tons of power in the SEC, obviously,
with Charlie Condon and Jack Caglione
and some of the best home run hitting teams
where the air is warmer,
some of the ballparks are a little bit smaller,
and guys can absolutely match.
Squads like Florida and Tennessee come to mind.
You don't see those types of broad numbers necessarily from Oregon State based on, like I said, the climate and the ballpark and everything else.
What is the offensive identity? Is this a slugging team?
Well, yeah, I would say that, I mean, it's a team that led the conference in strikeouts in the Pac-12, but it also led them in walks and home runs.
They can, they get base runners. I mean, obviously, Bazaana gets on base over half the time.
he goes to the dish.
But you can't, when you play this team,
you can afford to walk anybody
because anybody can get you on a two-run, home run.
You give them an extra route.
It's a danger because, again, they can leave the yard.
To your point, it's not easy to leave the yard
in a lot of these pack 12 yards that they play in.
I'll give you an SEC team that they play.
see early in February they played
Arkansas in
February at the
Rangers yard
and they face this left-hand right
what's his name Hagen
he's pretty good
that guy
probably the first picture taken off the board next month
yeah so they faced him
and I think you know
the box score I'm going to talk about I've never seen
it my life but
17 of the first 18 hitters
struck out, which is unheard of.
But what I found was fascinating is they lost the game just five to four.
So you'd think that they got blown out, but they just lost five to four.
Up and down this lineup, they're just, I mean, dangerous.
Give you an idea of Mitch Canterman is thinking, Trent Carraway is a freshman.
I haven't played very much at all.
was out injured.
He put him in the middle of a big game in the regional.
And we hadn't seen him in three weeks, four weeks.
But Gavin Troski, or excuse me, Jay Ben Troski,
he's probably going to hit in the nine hole.
He's a lead-up here for anybody else.
Yeah.
But they got that guy, they got that guy, Bazana at the top.
They're very, very talented.
They're well-coached.
and then we haven't even talked about Aiden May, who's there one on the mound, who is anywhere, he can get up to 97.
And, of course, you know, Velo, you've seen that in the SEC.
It's all over the place.
So the Velo is not the thing.
It's the command, and when he has command of the secondary pitch, then he's an elite pitcher.
The guy that follows him, Jacob Command.
He can rush it up there, 94, 95.
I call it a slurve.
They'll probably say it's a curbball.
His command is immaculate.
And then Eric Segura is their three guy, and he's a freshman.
And up until that rain game, I think you saw Tom, his command, he'd walk 18 guys.
Just 18 guys is a freshman in almost 65 minutes.
but um west that's uh that is a a loaded team we're up against it because of our technical difficulties
but we appreciate your insight there's a seventh best era in the country a team that can
hit the ball out of the park and and strike out at the same time great coverage last week in corballis
man it's fun watching you're roxy work thanks for joining us today you got it that's west clemency
was on the call for the corballis regional so a little bit of background on this Oregon state team
Ryan just loves every time I mention their mascot.
They're the beavers, Ryan.
There are a lot of beavers in the Pacific Northwest.
That's the name of their mascot.
If they bring their big furry beaver to Lexington,
you need to get your picture taken with it.
I think I would definitely look that up and try to get that done.
You know, we have a great city here in the state of Kentucky called Beaver Dam,
Beaver Dam, Kentucky in Ohio County.
No cursing.
No cursing allowed on the show.
So we're all big beaver fans.
This is Oregon State coming to Kentucky.
How close are we to the end of the Pact 12?
Is this part of the end end?
Yeah, I mean, it's part of the end.
I don't know who's still left in the end.
Yeah.
I don't know if we might be ending.
I don't know if there's any of their other teams still remaining
or we could be ending the Pact 12 this weekend too.
There are two.
Oregon is still alive and let's see, Arizona got upset.
I think they're the only two left of the Pact 12.
Oregon and Oregon State.
So it could very well be the end of the conference of champions,
although they're going to try and claim they still have the Pack 2.
Do you know if they travel?
I was looking at tickets, but they're only in the Oregon State section.
Do you know anything about?
I was going to ask him, do they have a rowdy fan base?
Should we expect some orange getting into Lexington this weekend?
Yeah, I think they'll have a loyal fan base.
I don't think they'll be that rowdy.
You know, like if you've got to go all right from Corvallis
and your two wins from Omaha.
So they won back-to-back national championship,
not back-to-back.
They won two national championships under Pat Casey,
their previous coach, they played for another.
And with the dissolution of the PAC-12,
they're going to be independent in baseball.
So it's really weird.
It's kind of, like, I would compare Oregon State baseball.
I think the best comp would be,
even though they haven't won a national title,
would be the Gonzaga basketball.
Right.
I mean, they've got this little sliver up in the,
top left corner of the country, and they dominate their sport in that region, and they've had
national success, which I think is really interesting.
I do agree that that is a tough start time.
Wes just let me know.
He said that their fan base travels the best in the pack by far.
So I would expect best based on what West said, that there's going to be plenty of orange
coming in.
That's really, that's tough, though.
That's unfortunate that they're going to, you know, fly all the way across
the country for just two games and have to fly all the way back.
That's really kind of disappointing for them, I'm sure.
You're going to be, Ron, you're going to be a nice host.
You're not going to boo them like you boo the big of players.
Yes.
Okay, that's fair.
Actually, I saw an Illinois big account put out a big thing,
thanking Kentucky for what good hosts they were.
So the park was nice.
Everything went really well.
So Kentucky fans did good last weekend.
I would expect that again.
Well, while we're talking baseball, you have a Tennessee batting helmet over your left shoulder there.
Can you turn that around?
Is this a television show or a radio show?
Like nobody but you and Drew can see what I have here.
I've got Missouri, Auburn, LSU, Florida, Miami, Georgia,
Ole Miss, Florida State.
Where's your Kentucky stuff?
Dude, where's your?
Nobody's giving me any Kentucky stuff.
Like, I didn't pay for any of this.
I said, hey, you know, we're going to put together a studio.
It's COVID.
you know what I got from UK?
Buck kiss.
Okay.
Susan Lacks, do you hear this?
We need to get Susan and Debmore and Matt Mae.
Oh, no.
She's getting some of them.
Yeah.
They've provided plenty.
Actually, Susan has given me multiple shirts over the years.
Those are actually being worn by my children.
I come home with them.
I hand them off.
These are just things.
Okay.
I'll turn it around for you.
All right, thank you.
Do we have one more break before we get to the top of the hour?
All right, let's take that break.
When we come back, I got a summer.
want to talk summer plans because I got some things I got to get done and I want to know what's on

Ryan asked me what my favorite band was.
You can't hear it on the pod, I guess.
But I said Jay Giles Band,
only because I knew that it would be a song
that he would bounce his head to.
Yes.
And I'm watching him on his Zoom.
Yes.
And he started bouncing his head to it.
What a great song.
Does Mario, has Mario ever heard of Jay Giles Band?
Have you ever heard of J. Giles Band?
no he said what's that yeah exactly no chance no chance um great song though good choice that's not
whiskey thief song of the day tom because it's your favorite bands we'll give that the whiskey thief
song of the day oh that's great okay thanks you're in charge of all the sponsorship um i do have
one bit of homework before we get to our number two okay you follow me on instagram right right ryan
i do of course i do yes okay i saw something on my walk last night and i put it on my instagram
story. I didn't want to put it on Twitter. I didn't, I really, it's maybe a hair inappropriate.
So I didn't want to like overly publicize it. But my, my Instagram is Tommy H, T-O-M-M-I-E-H-44.
Tommy H-44. I want everybody to go to it and you got to click through a couple of pictures,
like there's a beer and there's a couple of shirts that you'll see it when you see it.
I think I titled the question, do you think they know?
And then I want to talk about it.
This is in my neighborhood.
Oh, I lost to Zoom.
Are you guys still there?
Okay.
Yeah, we're still timed out once in time.
That's fine.
It's in my neighborhood.
I cannot wait to talk to you about it at the top of the hour.
Okay, but we've got an hour number two, I guess.
We've got a full summer.
Like to me, I've got one real work assignment left,
which is this weekend, the Super Regional in Athens, Georgia, and NC State.
And then my summer starts.
and I'm basically generally free until football.
So, like, I've got a bunch of stuff on my do list.
What do you, do you guys at this age of your life still think of summer as summer
where you're like, okay, now I get a break or an opportunity,
or I'm going to focus on getting a couple of things done that otherwise I wouldn't have time to do,
say when college football starts.
Drew, like, do you have that?
Absolutely.
Yeah, it's when the tournament ends in basketball, because football and basketball,
all, it's every Saturday morning to bedtime is KSR and UK.
So, yeah, when there's no Saturday games, it's, it's summertime for me.
Even though we have a long checklist this summer, I still feel like a, you know,
got to work in as many summer plans as possible and make the most of the weekends.
Brian, what's on your list?
What do you got to get done?
I'm like you, Tom, you know, I've got kids.
So I got one left still at home, Josiah.
So summer break, yeah, absolutely changes our lifestyle completely.
I now have to actually feed this kid for lunch.
You know, I went nine months.
That's a tough slice you got.
That is a tough.
And also, you know, being he's a football player,
he can only take vacation during the dead period,
which is the last week of June, first week of July.
So I'm locked in.
My vacation has to be one of those two weeks for the last couple years.
This year we got throwing a curve with Matt being gone two months too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's gone?
I thought he got fired.
We could have, but that doesn't change our day to day, whether he's fired or gone.
That has, we're here regardless, whether he's fired or gone.
I'm just counting up my vacation days here.
I've got like, I think, two and a half, three weeks, something like that.
We're all just trying to get on the Matt Jones 10-week vacation plan here at IHeart.
We're all just trying to figure out how we can get on that deal.
Not to whine, but my last full week off was last May.
I'm ready for a week off.
And so Drew is taking off here.
And two weeks
Two weeks
Drew will be off
So you won't have Drew
In a couple weeks
On your Wednesday
Well
You guys
Kind of answer my question
But you didn't
Like what I was thinking
Is like anything
Productive
That you need to get done
During this time
Where you can kind of
Take a break
From the grind of work
And all you're talking about
Is vacation vacation
Like
There's no honey-do list
No
You know
Well Drew's the only one that's married
Drew is the only one that's
married here so yeah i mean
take care of the yard you will we all have to
adult a little bit right yeah i mean the normal adult things i don't have anything
out of the ordinary we just we're so locked down in lexon so much i like to get out
in weekend warriors as much as i can't oh that's good um all right when we return
hour number two we're going to talk about bad customer service and what can be done about
it if anything yeah k sart continues hour number two coming up next
