Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:02:20 Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. Welcome to this Tuesday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio, Tuesday, June 11th. And we are live on another KSR summer pop-up surprise tour. Shannon the dude Ryan Lemon Drew Franklin Billy Rutledge will join us Mario's out parking my car We've been here for hours for show prep Getting ready for the show today
Starting point is 00:02:40 As always sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office Called T.J., what's he going to do, Shannon? He'll make him pay. He'll make him pay. Matter of fact, we forgot to mention him yesterday So what if I called him twice? What would he do? He'll make him pay twice. That's what I thought. Make him pay double. There you go.
Starting point is 00:02:52 You know you said this is a surprise show I'm kind of surprised to see you here. Oh, no. No problem at all. We'll have our Kentucky branded call the day. Of course, Kentucky Branden right now has all the officially licensed UK baseball college World Series T-shirt. They have them in the store. They can get them
Starting point is 00:03:11 online. We'll have our Whiskey Thief call the day. An A-Vision Glass Text Machine, which is in my pocket, is 502-735-3680. Guys, good to see you, man. I was wondering when you guys were going to show up and pull up. You're ready to do the show today. You'd seem a little out of breath. You weren't running from the parking lot as Shannon now we're planning a show in here, right? I am so on edge right now. You have any like cornbread hemp gummies for me, Shannon, in your pocket?
Starting point is 00:03:39 I just love, I just want to say this. I love, you know, normally every Friday I have to come from Louisville to you guys. I love that you now get to experience the anxiety and the stress that I have every week when I have to drive from Louisville to Lexington to get there on time, make sure the equipment is set up, make sure it works. We've got all that taken care of you. All you have to do is show up and host the show. Well, Drew was smart.
Starting point is 00:04:00 Drew went the other way. You went through Bargetown and Elizabethan? I went the way. We got teaching about these apps. They had them for a while. They take it A to B the fastest way possible. From my house last night, remember I think I even were texting you? What's the best way to go?
Starting point is 00:04:15 That's the old man thing. What's the best way to go? Yeah. The best way to go is whatever way Ways says to go. All right, pull up the app and it'll tell you when to leave. You can even schedule it. It'll say when to leave. Due morning of.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Yeah, things changed. See, I didn't. I did it last night. And last night from my house on the west side of Lexington, go to I-64 to the Gene Snyder. Here, let me unbutton you. You are all wound up. I am wound up this morning. You're making me uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:04:41 It's okay. So Mario came to my house. We stopped at the McDonald's in Midway, which we always do. I'm making stops on this. Look at the late train. No, no, no, no. That was your mistake. See, you are now prioritizing McDonald's breakfast over making the remote on time.
Starting point is 00:04:57 This was like at 715. We had an hour and 45 minutes. We had plenty of time. Backed up before you get to Frankfurt. Traffic was backed up. And that's why I said the first text. Hey, GPS says I'll get there at 954. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Then we get the next one. 9.57. Then there's a second backup like in Simpsonville. Simpsonville. Simpsonville. We know what the Dairy Queen is when we got yelled at. And then... Not that Dairy Queen.
Starting point is 00:05:22 You can't get off of 64 to get on the Gene Snyder out here. You just can't do it. I mean, it takes forever to try to get on the Gene Snyder. It's because everybody's trying to get to Bullitt County. Everybody's going to Bullitt County. Then you said 104, and I'm like, okay, the show starts at 1003. That's going to be a problem. I know.
Starting point is 00:05:37 So Mario let me out here in the parking lot. I jumped out and ran up here. So welcome everybody to the KSR pop-up business tour. Our second stop. We were at A Better Brewery in Winchester. Now our second stop here is at Heritage Hill Golf Club, and we are in Shannon the Dude Land. This is your country right here. God's country.
Starting point is 00:05:56 here. Beautiful Shepherdsville, Kentucky. Beautiful golf course they've got here. And I'm happy to be here. It's a beautiful day, right? Perfect day out here. I hate to give it to him, Drew. It is beautiful out here in Bullock County. I mean, we make fun of you a lot of times, but sitting here right now, look how beautiful that looks. I hear the Heritage Hill Golf Club. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Beautiful golf course, beautiful weather. I wish I had my clubs and could stick around and play. Ryan, you also missed the scenic drive through Bloomfield. I got to see Ernie's Tavern, which we've talked about on this show. Yes. It's a great drive from Lexington. I hate that you missed it. And then you get out here, this beautiful seen. You got Jim Beam out this way, Jim Beam Country, a beautiful golf course right here in front of us,
Starting point is 00:06:32 as I said. This is going to be a great show, and we got a great day to do it. So we're in Shepherdsville. You grew up in Mount Washington. One town over. Okay. Yeah. And that's, that Bullet East high schools from Mount Washington? That's right. That's Bullet East. Shepherdsville has Bullitt Central. Yeah. And then you had North Bullitt. There's no South Bullet. I don't know what happened to South Bullet. They got to pick up their game. But those are your three high schools here in Bullitt County. Is Shepherdsville bigger city than Mount Washington? You know, Mount Washington is growing, much like Stockton. I think Shepard'sville may be a little bigger.
Starting point is 00:07:04 It's the county seat. Gotcha. So I would say Shepherdsville is a little bit bigger. There's a little bit more than a little brother? I'm on your side. Mount Washington. I can't really talk bad about Shepherdsville because I'm in Shepherdsville. That's true.
Starting point is 00:07:19 You know, like they brought us out here. Oh, but you were in high school. They were the rival. Oh, yeah. Yeah, we were like the high class part of Bullitt County. Bullitt East. We felt like, yeah, you know, we were fancy. Uh-oh.
Starting point is 00:07:29 You're getting some looks from the crowd here. I'd be careful. Did you go to Bullet Central? She did. Cougars. That's right. Yeah, the Bullet Central Cougars. And you were a charger.
Starting point is 00:07:39 I was a Charger. I was a Pike Central Charger. We looked that same mascot. She disagrees with me. That's lovely out here. It is beautiful. It is very nice. When you get off the road there and you come out here and you drive through the neighborhood,
Starting point is 00:07:51 like, wow, this is really pretty out here. So, you know, we don't announce these KSR summer tour pop-up shows, but if you're out here and you want to come hang out with us, you're more than welcome to come out here and kind of see the course for yourself, maybe bring your clubs, maybe you get around a little bit. Billy brought his clubs. He's ready to go play around right now, I think. I'm surprised he's not out there hitting balls right now while we're doing the show.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Well, he was hanging around because he thought he might have to be a co-host because somebody else is not being here. We had a great first segment planned. Maybe we should just do it. I tell you, I was ready to pull my hair out. I hate traffic to begin with, but then three different slowings. You paid a lot for those hair plugs. I did.
Starting point is 00:08:24 A lot of pain and torture went through all that. So listen, obviously the big story is going to be the UK baseball. It's going to be every day this week. That's the number one story. But yesterday, Drew, we found out who they're going to play, when they're going to play, and everything yesterday. NC State, kind of a familiar foe. We played NC State in the regional in Lexington, Midgeeone's first year, winning that game in the middle of night, game three to go to the Supers.
Starting point is 00:08:48 They've been there four times, so they've got a little bit of experience, have it won one. They're going to be a good fan base that travels. But as far as the matchup, you know, they played Georgia, went on to late last night. They kind of, they're pitching. They got a high team ERA. I was looking at the stats this morning. The whole team ERA is six point something. I feel like for a team in Omaha that's pretty high.
Starting point is 00:09:07 They've got a few guys that can hit some bombs, did a lot of it mostly in their home park. But other than that, just kind of looking around at who you could have gotten and seeing NC State in front of you. I mean, they've tradition with some experience in their program getting there, but I don't mind the draw that much looking at the opponent. I think it's a Kentucky. I'm kind of confident. I'm not saying they're going to win, but, you know, I like with the draw,
Starting point is 00:09:27 and I feel good heading into the game on Saturday. So Saturday at 2 o'clock, of course, we'll have the game on WLAP, WKRD, the UK affiliates. Win or lose, then they'll play on Monday. I believe I'll read it. And if they were to win, they would play another SEC team. That would be either A&M, Texas A&M, or Florida. Monday would be at 6 if they win.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Yeah. If they win, it would be Monday at 6. So for the pitching purposes, obviously, Lee Pouser will start first game. Then you got Mason Moore. You got plenty of rest for him to start the second game. With those two guys, you've got to feel confident with either one of those guys going to the mound. The pitching staff has hit their stride at the right time.
Starting point is 00:10:04 I mean, that entire series in both games, they gave up a combined three hits. It's amazing. Which is incredible. It's amazing. And, I mean, everybody in the bullpen did their part. And then you added in the fact that Kentucky's offense is so unpredictable. You know, they play that erratic style. They sort of force the other team to make.
Starting point is 00:10:22 mistakes. You know, they play the aggressive on the base paths. That's why they're so fun to watch, and that's why I think they've got a great chance to make a good run here in Omaha. Look at that number. That ERA has ranked 156 than NCAA. NC State? Yes. So, I mean, if those bats can just travel to Omaha and get a hot start, get out early, as you mentioned, maybe start in Poozer. Can we call it Poo season baseball? Oh, I like that. I saw it. UK had one similar. It needed a little tweaking a little bit. I'm going to call it. I love it. Let's go for it. But again, I like the match up, and I'm hoping Blue gets in.
Starting point is 00:10:54 You know, I have some friends that have some even with season tickets. One, I set by at the Super Regional, and, you know, they just can't make it this week. I can't make it. We've got vacation. Matt's gone. I don't think you are going to go. I hope some Kentucky fans are able to go. KSR, the website, is sending Daniel, who we had on the show last week and Stephen, so we'll have video and things.
Starting point is 00:11:12 But personally, I'm a little bummed. I can't go as a fan. I want to go that Rocko's shot challenge. I know you and Billy talked about on the pre-show. Kentucky fans, please. We don't have to beat that record that was set there last year. The LSU, but we got to beat Tennessee and make some noise in our first appearance out there. So I'm excited even though we're going to have to watch it from afar,
Starting point is 00:11:30 but I'm really hopeful that some Kentucky fans are able to make it. Now, how disappointed are you, Ryan, on a level of 1 to 10, 10 being like the most disappointed that we're not making this trip to Omaha because you called it. You called it. You said when Matt went on his trip, he wouldn't be here to pay for the trip, so you didn't want to pay for the trip. You called it. You said they would go to Omaha and you won't be able to go.
Starting point is 00:11:52 So how disappointed are you? I knew this would be the year. They would make it to Omaha when Matt's on vacation, Drew's on vacation. My son's got like all these camps he's going to every other day. I just knew it. Now, I got to be fair. You know, Nick Duran, his son Harper, that we were good friends with, he messaged me yesterday. He said, hey, man, I'm driving Friday.
Starting point is 00:12:13 I'm going to go to the game. I'm going to drive back Saturday night, be back in time for Father's Day. You want to go with me? Dude. What? I know. What? I thought about doing that too, but I just, there's not enough hours in the day to make the one game.
Starting point is 00:12:24 I know it's tough, and then Josiah's got a really important camp to go to on Saturday. I mean, it's Father's Day weekend. And it's Father's Day weekend the next day, and I have, that would be a bad father if you just left him to come home. I have one small asterisk in my plans. I get back from vacation on the 22nd. Game two of the finals is on the 23rd. If Kentucky is in the championship, I will, I will make it. But there's a lot of baseball to be played between now and then.
Starting point is 00:12:53 What's the travel time from Louisville-Olexden to Omaha? I mean, we can look it up here. It was a long drive. Since apparently you don't have the app, I'll look it up for you. I'll look it up for you and tell you how. I had the app. I looked at it last night, and it was clean traffic all the way. The question is, how many McDonald's breakfast are you stopping for?
Starting point is 00:13:09 Yeah, 10 hours. Yeah, 10 hours and 20 minutes is what I got from right here. I mean, it's doable in a day, but that's tough. It's like a drive to the Gulf Coast, you know, 10-hour drive. That's true. Yeah. If they had gotten a Friday game, I could have pulled it off. The Saturday is just a little too late in the weekend to get back.
Starting point is 00:13:24 Well, we're here at Heritage Hill Golf Club. You know, there's a high school in my conference, Heritage Hills High School in Santa Claus, Indiana. But it's just Heritage Hill Golf Club. One Hill. One hill. Yeah. Out here in Shepherdsville, you can come out and see us. This is our KSR pop-up summer business tour show of the day.
Starting point is 00:13:41 We got Ryan, Drew and Shannon. Billy's here. Billis here. Brandon's here. Brandon drove. Did you get caught in traffic this morning? He rode with Billy. He rode with Billy.
Starting point is 00:13:48 He rode with Billy. Billy's got a new travel. You guys won't travel with Billy since he threw up the beaver nuggets with the two mimoses. Well, he threw up in my car. Of course I don't want him in my car. That's an automatic no. So Billy's now, you know, he's got a new partner to travel with. We'll take our break.
Starting point is 00:14:00 Come back. We'll go to the phone lines. 859-280287. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying.
Starting point is 00:14:12 And nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athletes themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real.
Starting point is 00:14:33 From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlic on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience
Starting point is 00:15:06 in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped. up in the chase, that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Starting point is 00:15:30 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about.
Starting point is 00:15:46 How healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:16:08 This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Wreck, my mama want you to weigh better. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:16:37 All right, welcome back. Ryan Drew and Shannon here at Heritage Hill Golf Club in Shepherdsville, 18-hole championship golf course, rated a top 10 new course. Golf Digest. It's beautiful out here. looking for a new course to try out and play. Coming to the Louisville area, stop off here in Shannon's old stomping ground in Shepherdsville and bring the clubs and go out and hit a few.
Starting point is 00:16:56 If I could play golf, I would come out here. I'm just terrible at golf. Now, you get me on a put-putt course, I will wear you out on put-putt. You are good puttut. I'm good at put-putt, but not on an actual golf course. Speaking of a golf course, do we announce the other scrambles?
Starting point is 00:17:11 I don't know. Do we need to? It feels like it might be important if we want people to actually show up Well, one of them is sold out. Yeah, the Lexington was sold out. The Louisville one's on sale. It's on sale now? Have you been promoting that?
Starting point is 00:17:24 I feel like we should promote that. I think we should promote that. It is August 12th. August 12th at the usual Glen Oak spot. Okay. I'll tweet a link so it's not over the air trying to read off a long thing. And it's available for purchase now. Yes.
Starting point is 00:17:38 Okay, I didn't know that. Well, there we go. How about that? There we go. There we go. Breaking news. You know, we moved all the scrambles because, you know, Matt's gone, so we were waiting until he got back.
Starting point is 00:17:47 So it's in August. What is the day did you say? It is Monday. Let me pull it up. Get it official here. Monday, August 12th. Monday, August 12th. Billy's over here laughing.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Billy, you knew this, right? Monday, August 12th? I'm doing good I-Hart promotion here. That's right. Yeah, Glen Oaks. We've been in there a million times. I don't know the exact number of years, but that's become just home base for the Louisville Golf Scramble.
Starting point is 00:18:07 But a lot of emails went out, people that have been on before. If you haven't, it's the Eventbrite website. Like I said, I'll tweet out a link here in just a second. Very cool. All right, 859-2802-287. That's our phone number. We'll want to get to your calls and got a lot to talk about. But before we get off of baseball too much, I do want to get to give a little shout
Starting point is 00:18:23 out to the University of Evansville. I mean, they forced a third game with Tennessee over the weekend. And I don't know if anybody got to see that second game. That was as an exciting as a game that I've seen Evansville pulled it off. They were a four-seed. We weren't even supposed to get in the tournament, but they surprised everybody, won the conference tournament beat Indiana State, got a four-seed in the regional, surprised everybody, won that regional, got to Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:18:45 They're starting catching. is a kid from Dunbar High School in Lexington, so just a little shout out to Evansville Aces. The fact that they even forced to game three was impressive. A team, like you said, that wasn't even really supposed to be there. So, yeah, shout out to the Purple Aces, and hopefully for them, it's a stepping stone for their program. Maybe we'll see them back there next year.
Starting point is 00:19:04 Sunday at Kentucky Proud Park, you know, we're in the stadium an hour and a half early. Just waiting around in Evansville went up 1-0. We're all watching on our phones. There's kind of a buzz going around. You're walking the concourse. Like, if you've seen that Tennessee Evansville score, you know, Tennessee ended up winning 12-1, but there were a lot of Purple Aces fans around the bluegrass for the weekend. It's fun to see at least put up a little bit of a fight.
Starting point is 00:19:25 And this story is for you, Drew, you know, the college softball world series crowned the new champion over the weekend. Oklahoma may not be much of an interest to a lot of us. Oklahoma is coming to the SEC next year. But did you know there is a girl from the second region on the Oklahoma softball team? Carly Kinney from Webster County High School, Drew. The Big Town of Providence. She started the, was it the decisive game? She started.
Starting point is 00:19:54 I don't think it was the final game. But yeah, big start, big contributor. Yeah, I did know that. So shout out to Region too. Thanks for putting that up. National Champion at Oklahoma. So I thought that was kind of cool. What's your favorite parts about Webster County?
Starting point is 00:20:08 I know what you're going to say. What do you think I'm going to say? The 600-pound twins? Oh, no, that's not what I was going to say, but yeah, sure, we'll take them. Amy and forgot the other's name. I don't remember the other's name either. Webster County for me, I'll just say people in Webster County knew how to have a good time when you're in high school. You know, I don't know, Shannon, you're more of a city boy.
Starting point is 00:20:28 I guess it's not really a city there. But, you know, sometimes you just got to find an open field and have a party sometimes. And when we wanted to do that, Webster County is where we would go. You could always have some fun in Webster County on the weekend. Well, the 600-pound twins, maybe the most famous people. I think our listeners would recognize that more than to be going to a field party. They've had Brandy Ashby, I think she was Kentucky Miss basketball back in the 90s over there. Yep, they had a Miss Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:20:55 You know, chicken plants, all kinds of good stuff over there. Joey Davenport was a Kentucky All-Star. He played at Sanford. His son plays at Henderson County now, so that pretty much sums up my Webster County Trojan knowledge right there. We could go on forever about Webster County. Are we going to go back to the counties? That's exactly what I was going to say. I don't want to leap too forward.
Starting point is 00:21:14 That's the end of the list with the Ws. I feel like it's dead. How many were really left? We're at Spencer County. We left off at Spencer County. There's only probably 7, 8, 9 left. Okay. Starting.
Starting point is 00:21:27 Let's do it. It's Thursday. We're clearly not prepared to do Spencer County at the moment. Thursday, we will pick up with the counties, and we will finish them this summer. So we got Spencer County, Taylor County, Woodford, Wolf, Webster. we'll get there Todd we'll get there I don't want to butcher the list trying to do it off the cuff here I mean I guess
Starting point is 00:21:49 does it me have to do more research well yeah we'll we'll need to have to do something okay it's not about us though it's about these counties who've just been sitting around waiting for their moment they had to listen to Anderson through Hancock blood all of them just sitting there waiting and we left just a few of them on hold well you know we can do that what we can't do is go back and do the country music bracket because the podcast would just be silence.
Starting point is 00:22:13 I've got to play any of the music on there. I've also rewatched the Sopranos since we were going to rewatch the Sopranos. I'll do it again. That one might be done as well. I was keeping the fast food bracket, the last one we got to like the Sweet 6 team. I think I've lost it since then. I think yesterday Myron named Waffle House the summer winter again. A two-time winner would be Waffle House.
Starting point is 00:22:33 He's been a lot of fun. Myron has killed it. Yes, he's done great. Tom Hart will be back tomorrow for us hosting KSR. So coming out, which, by the way, is your birthday tomorrow. Tomorrow's my birthday? Yes, early. Wow, happy early birthday, Drew.
Starting point is 00:22:46 I got a busy day tomorrow. Geez. So we'll be back at KS. Bar and Grill tomorrow for your birthday and for Tom Harts. We'll come out and see us. I'm going to be out there tomorrow night. Marvel trivia. Your Spider-Man costume is being delivered like within an hour. Is it the right size?
Starting point is 00:23:00 Like, you didn't get me like a child small size, right? I'm like Billy. I'm hoping for extra, extra small. Well, there may be some holes in that costume when I give it back. Maybe an X-rated Spider-Man. I'm looking forward to it, though. Do we have the questions written for me? I know.
Starting point is 00:23:15 I know nothing about Marvel or comics or any of that. So we got somebody writing them for me, correct? Somebody's writing them for you. I do not have them or I don't know if they've even been started, but yes, they're supposed to be there for you. I don't care if they've been stuck. As long as they're ready when I walk in and I'm shooting webs on everybody, I'll be ready to go. I don't think we've encouraged everyone going to also dress up, but we should do that. Sure.
Starting point is 00:23:37 Don't let Shannon be the only one trying to save the universe. Shannon needs a whole... That's right. We need a whole... We need a whole, like, a simple team, exactly. Let's do it. The Guardians of something, the Galaxy? Guardians of Galaxy.
Starting point is 00:23:48 Billy knows. Shannon needs them with him. What's their group name? The Avengers. The Avengers. Okay, let's everybody... If you're coming and you want to dress up and join Shannon tomorrow and I, I think it'll be a lot of fun. So tomorrow's Drew's birthday, Marvel Tribute, KS. Bar and Grill.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Thursday, we have a live show that's open to the public at the Lex Hotel, which is out at the corner of 75. and Athens-Buns-Bunsboro Road out there across from the new soccer complex out there, brand-new hotel. So we've got a live show that's our, that'll be our only show open to the public in Lexington all summer. So if you want to come out and see us, come on out there. And then Friday night is another, it's all Shannon, man. Shannon. Marvel trivia on Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Live show with Shannon on Thursday. And then the Shannon the Dude Brew Tap Takeover. That's right. Yes. At K.S. Bar and Grill on Friday. Country Boy Brewing. Come on out. That starts at 6 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:24:40 We've sort of reimagined. Shannon the dude's brew revamped it a little bit, and I'm looking forward to everybody coming out and having their first taste of it this Friday. Do you want to blow out my candles tomorrow, too? I can. You want to just do everything? The week of Shannon.
Starting point is 00:24:52 I'll eat your birthday cake. Take your gifts. Before we take our break, we do want to just touch on the big national news yesterday was Danny Hurley. Oh, yeah. Turns down the Lakers to stay at Yukon. So he, in one summer,
Starting point is 00:25:04 and a couple months apart, he turned down Kentucky for a lot of money, turn down the Lakers for a lot of money. He's consistent. He loves Yukon. At Yukon, what's your take on it? I mean, obviously he loves Yukon. Either he or his wife does, because there's reports she didn't want to leave either.
Starting point is 00:25:19 But that's a big statement to college basketball. You know, I think that's only going to help his recruiting. It's only going to strengthen them when he can flex that I've won two in a row, told Kentucky down and told L.A. down in the same summer. They offered him $70 million over six years. Oh, my goodness. Wasn't that something like, close to what Petino got, didn't he get a $70 million offer?
Starting point is 00:25:40 I think there's a reported Kentucky's offer. He might have been even higher than that. But I said yesterday, if it were me, I'd go because when you've given them two titles, I see that as a good time to step away to Yukon. What more do you want for me? You're kind of leaving at the top. But, you know, it was his decision to make, and he decided to stay. Now we all have to worry about Yukon continuing that run.
Starting point is 00:25:59 I was hoping to see that just fall flat on its face and all those players scatter and, you know, have to go find a coach. But unfortunately, the Hurley show continues there. I look at it as it wasn't his decision. It was his wife's decision. She's the one that really made the call. But now he can go to Connecticut and go, I turn down an offer from the Los Angeles Lakers to stay here.
Starting point is 00:26:21 He should just have a blank check to stay. They can pay him whatever he wants from here on out. He should be set for life with Connecticut after turning down the Lakers job. Probably a smart move, though. If you look at what the Lakers have done since Phil Jackson, there's not been a single coach and stayed there for longer than three years, if he looks at their history and their willingness to, you know, just have this revolving door of head coaches, probably a smart move on his part to stay there at Connecticut where he's got it made for the rest of his life.
Starting point is 00:26:45 The NBA is quick to throw coaches away, not just the Lakers. I mean, it's a player-driven league. I mean, there's been like coaches of the year get fired the following C. It's since they point straight at the coach when oftentimes I don't think they have much involvement of what's actually happening. Yeah, I mean, let's be real. The coaches in the NBA are more like a manager. That's true. That's true.
Starting point is 00:27:01 All right, Ryan, Drew and Shannon here. We're at Heritage Hill Golf Club in Shepardville. coming out and see us. We'll be right back. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. Starting point is 00:28:03 And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
Starting point is 00:28:23 And we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now.
Starting point is 00:28:59 What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliver Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:29:16 What? Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio, Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:29:37 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back. Ryan Drew and Shannon here. Kentucky Sports Radio. Our KSR summer pop-up business tour continues. This is a stop number two.
Starting point is 00:29:55 We're at Heritage Hill Golf Club in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. The home of Shannon the Dude, Bullitt County. And this is from the A Vision Glass Text Machine, 502-735, 3680. Since Drew doesn't have his clubs, he should borrow a driver and a few balls to see if he can reach the green on the 18th T. Always a fun challenge when I play that course. Is this number 18 right here? It's over here. Can you reach it off the T-box? Oh, he says no. No. Well, you maybe- That's the challenge, though. You and Billy should go over there and muscle up see if you can drive the green. That sounds like three days of my back hurting. I would love to hit one from 100 yards. That's a challenge. That's a challenge. You and Billy should go over there and muscle up, see if you can drive the green. That's a lot. I would love to hit one from 100 yards. That sounds more like my pace these days. But, you know, if they got some fun quirky holes, I'll go play a couple. Downhill on a dry day.
Starting point is 00:30:42 Oh, I got you. Oh, you have to carry the water, too. Is it right in front of the green? Oh, you really got a muscle up and do it. Sounds like a layup situation for me. All right, if 859-280-2287, that's our Clark's Pump and Shop phone numbers. So who we got, Matt? Brandon, go ahead, Brandon.
Starting point is 00:31:00 Hey, dudes. Happy Tuesday to you guys. first time one time. Happy Tuesday to you. Appreciate you calling in. We are, I'm actually with my 13 year old and we are traveling from Alaska to Omaha. Wow. Yeah, he has a comp travel team baseball tournament that was made a year ago.
Starting point is 00:31:23 And so we just lucked out and getting UK into the World Series and we bought our tickets last night. So we're going to be there and hope BBN shows up, section of the first. 22 front row. Very cool. That's a very cool. That's a road trip right there from Alaska to Omaha, Nebraska. So enjoy it, man. You and your son, I hope you have a good trip, man.
Starting point is 00:31:44 Enjoy those moments. We appreciate it. We're at Salt Lake City Airport right now. Well, enjoy it. Safe travels and hope he does well there at Omaha. Appreciate the phone call. About that for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm looking into the cats being there.
Starting point is 00:31:57 That's a great father-son trip. And we're getting a lot of shade from people like this is on the Aviation Glass Text machine. How do you think the baseball team feels when they finally get to go to Omaha and not even one from KSR is going? Another sport and you would be there no matter what? I don't know, man. No matter what? Like another sport? Like, okay, football, yes, basketball, yes. But like any other sport you think we would be there? I don't think that's true. I mean, to be honest, the last couple of football bowl games we've not even gone to. Yeah. So put that in your pipe and smoke it. Textor.
Starting point is 00:32:32 I watched every pitch of the regional and every pitch of the Super Regional and felt every raindrop, so I don't have a lot of guilt and not being supportive. I wish I could go. I did too. It's unique circumstances for the show. But I gave as much as I could in the last two weeks and I'll show up in the championship. It's just sometimes you have trips that were booked and paid four months ago. I mean, to be fair, we can cover it just the same here as we could there, right?
Starting point is 00:32:55 True. I mean, it's just going for the experience. Yeah. At some point in my life, I will go. it is sad that right now our team is going to be there and we've got, you know, I got dad obligations. Drew's got vacation obligation. You have work obligations.
Starting point is 00:33:08 I mean, there's things you just can't get out of sometimes. Sometimes the timing just doesn't work out. Yeah, I can't vacation in March, April, or May. I got to sneak one in adventure. And I didn't want to miss a regional or a super regional and then, you know, skip that for Omaha. And Omaha doesn't happen. So I feel like I made the right call and catching all the home games.
Starting point is 00:33:25 It's going back to the phone lines, Matt. Who we got? Les. Go ahead, Les. Hey, good morning, man. I want to wish the basketball team some fun this weekend. Do you all have any information about Club Blue meeting Coach Pope and the basketball team this Saturday at Rupp Arena or Crover Field? Yeah, it's at the Kentucky Horse Park on Saturday, the 15th.
Starting point is 00:33:59 I guess can we read that itinerary that we were sent yesterday? I might not do the whole thing. That seemed very specific, but you get the big parts. All right. Here's some of the itinerary that was sent to us yesterday. Doors open at the Kentucky Horse Park at 1130. That's Saturday the 15th. This Saturday, right?
Starting point is 00:34:18 Yep. Yeah, this Saturday the 15th, doors open at 1130. Introduction of the coach will be at noon. That's for the VIP room. Oh, the VRP. The coach and team are on the arena floor at 1. At 1 o'clock, Tom Leach will be there to preside over it. There will be different.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Pope's going to talk to Tom Leach for a little bit. You'll get to hear from him. Players will be scattered around. Players scattered around, right? Vendors and activities. Yeah, other coaching staff will have Q&A. They have a lot going on. But as you said, parking opens at 11.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Doors open at 1130. There's a few VIP things in between there and the Pope and team round one. And there's still tickets available. I mean, it's an event you can still go to. You have to just join the Club Blue, right? Well, you had to be in past the May date to get to this. I don't know the latest. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:35:08 Well, I may have misspoken on that. I thought they were still a chance that could go. If you wanted to still join Club Blue, you could get to go on Saturday. But it's a big event. This will be the first time the unveiling of the team. Nobody's seen the team together. They've not talked to anybody. This will be the first unveiling of the team on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:35:24 Yeah, I mean, they just got here days ago. A lot of them went to the baseball game. I thought was very cool. We didn't get to mention that on Monday, but they had a whole row of the new players that had to have been one of their first bonding things. I assume most of them don't know each other at all coming from different conferences,
Starting point is 00:35:37 different parts of the country. So as neat seeing them at the stadium. Even Oscar Sheway was sitting with them. See, I thought that was really cool for Oscar to be there and to sit with the current team. He doesn't know any of them. I thought that was pretty cool. Yeah, but that was, I guess, the first glimpse at some of them.
Starting point is 00:35:51 The whole crew wasn't there, but this coming Saturday, anyone that's in Club Blue, this is one of the reasons you jump in, you're helping with the team, and this is the first big event. And I hope it's awesome for everybody, and everybody stays committed, because this is so important in keeping this recruiting going, this big pop for Club Blue that they got with Pope. Hopefully Saturday goes well.
Starting point is 00:36:09 Everyone has a blast, and these events continue, and everyone keeps being a participant in that, because it's very important in this current world of college basketball we're in. A lot of those photos of the guys all at the baseball game, my takeaway in every one of them was, Andrew Carr is really tall. I mean, he's the tallest dude. That's my final four MOP. I know it, man.
Starting point is 00:36:27 I agree with you. I think he's going to have a big season. He's a guy that we probably don't talk about enough what he can do at the four spot. Yeah, I know everybody's going to be excited just to meet all these guys. A few years with Cal, we'd have a max excess yet to learn more. I mean, this is everybody's new, and on Saturday they're all going to be out there. They did the one, I guess, a year ago with some football, before a basketball game.
Starting point is 00:36:47 This is a similar format. I think this will be much bigger, too. But I just really like the fans get more of a personal experience with the players. Here's also from the Aviation Glass Tax Machine. I have to travel to Central City in a few weeks. Drew, any suggestions on any good restaurants around there to try while I'm there in Central City. I haven't been there since I was spending Christmases there as a child. I have to say it's changed a little bit.
Starting point is 00:37:09 What's the pizza place we went to? I was going to say. It was awesome. We did a show there. I got a shirt. Me too. Stellians. Stylions.
Starting point is 00:37:16 Spes Pizza, which is like about a four inch thick pizza. Do you remember that show we did down there in downtown Central City? It's right. Yeah, yeah. That was some good pizza. So my official recommendation is Stelian. or my grandmother's chili in 1992. That's pretty good, too.
Starting point is 00:37:32 All right, let's go back to the phone lines. Matt, who we got? Oh, that's it for now. 859-280-287. That's the phone number if you want to call and get on board. Ryan Drew and Shannon here. We're live at Heritage Hill Golf Club in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, and Bullitt County.
Starting point is 00:37:47 You know, we don't announce where we're going, Shannon, but we invite if you're in the air. We had a guy just pop up just a second ago. He was listening on the radio and stopped by to say hello when he went down the road. Listeners are everywhere, including some. that are already out here just hanging out. So yeah, you're free to join us if you want to.
Starting point is 00:38:02 We'll be here for another hour or so. So come join us. Now, another story I wanted to get to, we didn't get to yesterday with Myron, was the $80 pants. The photo leaked of the $80 pants that were ripped, allegedly ripped when Scottie Schaeffler drove the officer gills ripped his pants, $80, $80. Somebody's got to pay for these $80 pants. I'm telling you, man, they can make this into a big fundraiser.
Starting point is 00:38:28 If they could get Sheffler to sign them and auction them off at some. Yeah, but he's not going to do that, though, right? I don't know. It was sort of a negative encounter. I don't think that he probably just wants to drop it at this point. Although he did get one last little shot in calling Louisville. I don't know if you saw that. I did see that.
Starting point is 00:38:47 And if you heard that, he knew what he was doing, right? We were all laughing at that. But yeah, the $80 pants, I mean, I don't know. Can we move on from that? Or is he still trying to complain about it on social media? What's going on with that? That's going to be the lasting impression of that whole incident of those $80 pants, I feel like. I am glad we finally got to see the pants.
Starting point is 00:39:05 Yeah. You all were there. Well, Ryan, you were half there. At my wedding, I did more damage to my own pants dancing than that police officer had done to his pants. That's true. That is true. If you did a side-by-side of my tuxedo in this horrible situation that have, there's more damage to me breaking it down low than what happened to him. So I'm glad we at least got to see it and close the book on what actually happened in those pants.
Starting point is 00:39:27 and it looks to be a tiny hole, maybe about the size of a golf ball in the back pocket. And those scratches that he had on his knee, thoughts and prayers to the officer for that. Hopefully he recovers. Now, I don't know who this guy is. I don't know if you guys have seen it. The video of someone at the Wildwood Country Club in Louisville drove into the member guest tournament. And look at what he, look, when he drove in, Shannon, I want you to look at his car.
Starting point is 00:39:51 What is this? Here he comes. Yeah. This is very close to Valhalla. Very close to Valhalla. Yeah. And he's driving his car into the parking lot. Right.
Starting point is 00:40:00 And he's got a dummy there in costume. Oh, no. Hanging off his window. Oh, no. Look at that. With a yellow vest on. Oh, man. Fair foul.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Hmm. I mean, you're dragging an officer, right? Which is a foul. Symbolic. Fow. I mean, I'm not offended by it, but I don't know that it's a good look. I don't know that I would do that. I mean, I guess I'm
Starting point is 00:40:26 Again, I'm not offended by it But do I want to be driving around Dragging a symbolic officer? Probably not. Probably not the best thing to do. Fair foul. It's foul because it's tasteless, but it's not the end of the world
Starting point is 00:40:42 And he probably got a few giggles as he pulled up. Like I said, I wouldn't do it. And it's probably like, hey, he probably shouldn't do that, man. But it's, there are worse things. It is funny, but that's foul. You got to be careful. It was a police officer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:55 He could have hurt more worse than he was. It's more the audacity to drive around with that. That's true. That's true. I can't believe he would even attempt that. All right. Well, take our break. Come back.
Starting point is 00:41:04 Go back to the phone line. Got a couple lines open. 859-280-2-287. That's 859-280. Catch. Ryan, Drew and Shannon. We'll be right back on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game.

Starting point is 00:43:14 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, A, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Brett, my mama want you to weigh better. What?
Starting point is 00:43:33 Where's he at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan Drew and Shannon live at Heritage Hills Golf Club on our KSR pop-up business summer tour. This is stop number two. The A Vision Glass Tech Machine is 502-735-3680. This one says Andrew Carr was the nicest at the baseball game. They were roped off right in front of us in the outfield.
Starting point is 00:44:44 He got to the Cajun food truck and spilled some. He then picked it up off the ground with the napkins, and nobody would step in it. Five second rule. Look at that. Five second rule. Did they eat it? I would.
Starting point is 00:44:53 So we got Andrew Carr cleaning up just common grounds at Kentucky Rock Parks and they'll get their shoes dirty. I saw after the Kentucky Indiana high school game Friday, Travis Perry was picking up trash around the bench. Yes, all that. Are we going to have the cleanest team in college basketball next year? Maybe so. If we see them cleaning it up after they leave the game at Rupp Arena,
Starting point is 00:45:11 then we know that without a doubt this is the, or is a little maybe they're a little anal. It could be that. They could also drive by on this golf course. moment since most of them brought their clubs. That's true. It's going to be fun learning all the personalities. Especially guys like a Kirkresa and, you know,
Starting point is 00:45:27 the ones that really come in with some... He's the guy that I saw had the clubs, right? Yeah. His clubs, he looks like he could do some shopping for new clubs. He didn't have any head covers. His clubs look like what my clubs look. He probably had like a couple of wooden clubs in there. I mean, these are like old school clubs you would find it, play it in sports.
Starting point is 00:45:41 I heard you talking to Billy about your club in your garage. So you don't play at all? No. I mean, I used to dabble you know, because everybody was doing. it. I'm going, okay, what's this golf thing? I'll try it. I'm terrible at it. So the best thing I can do when I go to the golf course is load up on some ice cold beer because I'll be doing a lot more drinking than I would be playing. Well, we need to get you back out at the KSR Scramble, and you and I just drive around all day. I'm good with that. Beer cart girls. I have no problem with that since we don't play.
Starting point is 00:46:09 This one also from the Aviation Glass Tech Machine, Drew, it says Andrew Carr is taller than Brandon Garrison. Confirmed. Confirmed. Is that an eye test at a baseball game? for an official combine measurement. I'm telling you, every photo you saw, he was a head taller than everybody. It was. Yeah, he certainly looks apart.
Starting point is 00:46:26 Looking forward to having him. He had a good couple of years at Wake and ready to see what he can do it in the SEC. Zach from Winchester writes in, I was one of the few at the A Better Brewery show last week. Nice. Yeah. Almost got took out by the falling metal in the ceiling. Zach the one that didn't move. Zach didn't move.
Starting point is 00:46:44 He's like the UK baseball team. I think we're okay out here. I don't think he's going to fall from us here. No, we're good. Heritage Hill Golf Club. 859-2-287. That's our phone number if you want to call and get on board. Ryan Drew and Shannon here.
Starting point is 00:46:54 We've already talked about a lot of big things coming up at KS Bar and Grill. Our live show Friday, Thursday at the Lex Hotel out on Athens-Bunsboro Road in I-75. Want to come to see that? I did forget to mention, too, we were talking about all the stuff coming up this weekend. The Mark Pope Father-daughter Camp is Sunday, Father's Day, June 16th. I think it's cool. He's going to have that with his daughters. I'm sure they'll have a good turnout.
Starting point is 00:47:16 Yeah, I got that coming up. Also another piece of news today at 2, the SEC is revealing even more television windows for college football. They're doing yet another schedule show. Oh, okay. Learn even more. More of our scheduled kickoff time. Yeah, they're going to release some of the early afternoon games throughout the year. So we should learn even more of Kentucky scheduled today.
Starting point is 00:47:38 All right. This was on Twitter, and I've been saving it for a, to discuss with you guys. The CBK report released the top 50 head coach. in college basketball for next season. They got Dan Hurley number one. Okay, that's fair. Bill Self number two. Kelvin Samson, number three.
Starting point is 00:47:58 Mark Pugh number four, Rick Petino, number five. So when you start to ask yourself, okay, where? Did you say Mark Pugh? Did you call Mark Pugh? Did I say Pugh? I'm sorry. Rick Patino right next.
Starting point is 00:48:10 Mark Few number four, Rick Patino number five. Scott Drew was six, Tony Bennett, seven. Matt Painter 8 Nate Oates 9 Chris Beard 10 John Caliperia was 18th Mark Pope is 23rd You know a lot of those
Starting point is 00:48:30 They're fine I thought Petino at 5 is way too high I thought that was too high I mean we're not looking at like career We're doing for next season This season You still got the juice Yes
Starting point is 00:48:40 He's just just a little old Just I don't like the fastball still there Still a great coach I mean if we're talking over the course of their career Yes But Patino is the fifth best coach right now I don't think so. Also, Tony Bennett at number seven.
Starting point is 00:48:51 That's too high. Get out. Did they not watch the NIT last year when they lost by a million? They won one title. They were the number one seed, and now he's still getting all this phrase. Tony Bennett made this list if he's number seven. Tony Bennett is number seven on this list. I thought Nate Oates was way too low at number nine also.
Starting point is 00:49:09 I agree with that. Way too low. A lot of it, I can't argue. You know, even Cal at 18, that feels a little low for Cal. I mean, we've obviously been disappointed the last few years at Kentucky, but I might put Cal top 15 at least, surely. I feel like he's a little over there. Pope, you know, I'd want him to be higher than 23, but he, you know, he was just at BYU for a couple years. Utah State, Utah Valley for that, doesn't have a tournament win, hard to put him in the top 20.
Starting point is 00:49:36 So I'm okay with Pope. I might have Cal a little higher. It'd be another change. So as far as SEC coaches go, Shannon. Yeah. Nate Oates, number nine, Chris Beard, number 10, Bruce Pearl. 14, Rick Barnes 19, and I guess
Starting point is 00:49:52 Pope would be next at 23rd. Well, I don't know. I guess Cal and Barnes right there at 18 and 19. Yeah. I guess I'm okay with that. I'm with Drew, though. I feel like Cal, even though he's been really disappointing in the postseason, overall as a coach,
Starting point is 00:50:05 I mean, I would probably put him in the top 15. As you said, I think feels fair. Maybe they slided him a little bit. I think a lot of it has been stubborn in his staff, not so much Cal. Yeah. But Pope being at 23rd, I mean, so basically we didn't what they're saying is we didn't fall that far down if at all by hiring mark pope as the coach that's true that's a good way to look at it just went down five spots to save a fortune
Starting point is 00:50:27 right yeah now the other thing i want to bring up is that you know duke is supposed to have another monster season Alabama and duke right are the two top teams and they got john shire at number 35 that's another guy i thought that probably would be higher on this list i didn't even notice he was absent from what i'm looking at in front of me so far down i mean he's I mean, that seems pretty bad, too. He's following Coach K. I know Duke isn't, I mean, Duke's been fine, you know. To drop him that low seems a little harsh.
Starting point is 00:50:56 I think that's pretty low for him. Yeah, I mean, you think Duke you would have better than a 35th ranked coach as your head coach for your program. So just interesting topics of discussion here on these summer shows. All right. Williams at 46. Oh, that's another one I'm going to bring out. He's better than that. He's better than that.
Starting point is 00:51:13 We'll be back at Heritage Hill Golf Club. We come back, Ryan Drew and Shannon on the KSR. pop-up summer business tour. We'll be right back.
