Quarterback on office blue 42.
A rep.
My mama want you to wave at her.

This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now, here's Matt Jones.
All right, good morning.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.
Welcome.
Ryan Lim and Drew Franklin, Shannon the Dude, and Billy are sports here for this Thursday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio.
As always, Cagic Sports Radio is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, called T.J., what's he going to do, Shannon?
He'll make them pay.
Hopefully on time.
He'll make them pay on time.
Throughout the course of this show, Shannon, we're going to have the Whiskey Thief call a day.
We're going to have the Kentucky branded tweet of the day.
And the Clark's Publish Out phone number will be open, 859-280-2287.
And what about that other breed about the Kentucky Department of Transportation and Road that you see?
That's for the pop-up shows.
This is the live show that we're doing.
So this is not a pop-up show?
No, this is not a pop-up show.
We've been promoting this.
I think we have to say this, though, don't we?
I don't know.
I don't think so.
Okay.
But you can if you want.
Yeah, I give them a plug.
Buckle up, put your phone down.
That's right.
The Kentucky Department of Highway Safety.
The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is the presenting partner of your business tour.
Need two mentions a show.
Okay, you're not supposed to read that.
This is not the business tour.
This is unbelievable.
Okay.
We are off the floor to start.
We are at Hotel Lex, ladies and gentlemen.
We appreciate everybody coming out here.
It's our only live show we're doing in Lexington.
all summer with the crowd.
This one right here.
So if you want to come on out here,
they got a ton of stuff to do.
I know I listen to the pre-show show, you get free lunch today.
Yeah.
I can just come out here and you get a free lunch here at the Barrel 35 restaurant here at Hotel X.
It's that easy.
Yeah, they're doing the ripping, cutting a little bit later on.
You come out here at any point during the summer, and you mention KSR,
they're going to give you a free dinner with your overnight stay.
So you come out here for karaoke and you get a free dinner.
That's right.
So how about that?
But this is a beautiful complex.
I've been out here.
I've been out here.
I've already toured it once.
The hotel out here, some investors bought it.
$4 million renovation, and now it is an awesome, beautiful hotel in an area that's just about to explode out here in Lexington, the corner of my 75, and 8thes-Bunsboro Road, Drew, with the new soccer complex right across the street.
This area is about to take off.
Oh, yeah, this is definitely going to blow up out here.
I would like to have a piece of this hotel, but I got a nice tour earlier.
It's a very Kentucky-themed.
A lot of bourbon signage.
Awesome bourbon bar sitting here in front of it.
It's going to be hard to turn that down this early in the morning.
Went and got a tour of the little call it an indoor pool area, but it's almost more.
indoor recreation.
There's a little bit everything in their game.
So I'd say especially if you have young kids, this would be a fun place to stay over the long weekend.
Absolutely.
Beautiful little courtyard out here as well.
You stayed here last night.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
I slept really well.
Those beds are extremely comfortable.
And, you know, I'm big on showers, right?
Yes.
Like, if you don't have a good shower in your hotel room, that can make or break the experience for me.
And they've got a brand new shower, really nice.
Good hot water, good pressure.
You know, water pressure is a big deal when it comes.
steps to a hotel shower. My hotel reviews, they start and end with the shower.
Yes.
If you have good water pressure in your shower and it's all enough, that's all I need.
That's right.
Well, all you folks that are coming down to Lexington from Corbin and London and Richmond, this is the Athens Boothboro exit,
and now you have a place to stay that's right here, and that's what I said.
So is it Athens or Athens?
Because I guess I was saying it wrong.
I was saying Athens.
Is it Athens?
Well, they say it here Athens.
Okay.
Athens.
My apologies for the last hour calling it Athens.
It's a potato and potato kind of thing.
Yeah, yeah.
You know it's Athens, Georgia, Athens, Greece.
Athens, it is.
But in Kentucky, it's Garrett County, Versailles, and it's Athens-Bunsboro Road.
Got it.
Now, back in the day, Billy, this bar ran right now, this 32, 35 bar.
35, oh, what's it called here?
53.
Beryd.
Beryl 53.
Beryl 53 used to be Beniggins.
Oh, is that right?
Oh, yes.
This is where, this was one of the hotspots in.
Lexington was this spot right here called Bennington.
If you come in the door over there, the tile floor still has.
They left the old Benegans logo there on the floor.
But when I first moved here, I came out here a lot because this was the place to go.
Yeah.
Well, that's cool that they're keeping the past alive a little bit.
They just did a $4 million renovation.
There's a whole big pool area, an arcade that you can go and jump into the pool if you need to later.
I've been in that pool.
I've been to a birthday party.
I think Gavin was like six years old.
came here for a birthday party at that pool, and it's a ginormous over there.
Now, while Matt's gone, I'm supposed to kind of keep you on task and rein you in at times,
and I think this is the third show that you've shown up right as the music was starting to play.
We had a meeting about who was going to lead, what all needed to be said.
Shannon was going to start it, talk about the hotel.
I was going to lead into some topics.
Just making sure you're all right.
We're good.
We're good, but I'm about had enough I can take about traffic.
especially trying to get to a show at 10 o'clock in the morning.
From my house on the Lexington, I live on the west side,
to this hotel on the east side, took me today almost an hour.
No way.
Oh, yes.
Dude, you should stay here with me last night.
Newtown Pike was backed up, and then you go on the interstate,
and it's backed up trying to get over here.
They got all that construction going on over there.
I was about to throw a fit.
But we're good.
We're everything's good.
Just making sure we're not interrupting something.
It's two days.
I feel like we're inconveniencing you at the radio.
I just want to make sure we're still doing a great job.
Here's the great thing.
You know, coming up soon, we have a remote actually at your house.
You can't be late for that unless you just don't wake up.
Well, there's always that possibility.
Now, last night was one of the funniest things we've seen in a long time where our boy, Shannon.
You thought it was a lot funnier than I did.
I thought it was hilarious.
Dressed up as Spider-Man to host Marvel trivia.
Yeah. So here's the funny part.
you know, I get this costume in a bag
and I go upstairs to change
and I quickly realize as I'm putting on the
body suit, there's no mask.
There was no mask.
So as I was saying on the pre-show,
I kind of felt like half-ass Spider-Man.
Like, you know, Kiss going up on stage
with all their gear on, their wig, but no makeup.
So I had to do it with no mask,
which was not exactly what I was expecting.
But I do want to thank everybody for coming out.
It was a great crowd last night.
I think 125 people somewhere around that number
came out there.
And we had some people that went all the way to the very last question and didn't miss any.
Yeah, perfect sheets.
Perfect sheets, Billy.
These people knew going to the final round.
The most impressive thing, though, we had a tiebreaker at the very end, right?
There was one group that just, I think, won by like one or two points because they wagered, like, at the very end.
I don't want to get too much in the details of it, but they wagered more points, ended up winning.
We had like a three-way tie for second place, and the tiebreaker question was, an ant-man and wasp in minutes.
How long is the movie?
In minutes.
And one person got it exactly right.
Exactly.
Come on.
And I'm like, come on.
They had to be cheating, right?
I mean, like, think of your favorite movie.
Forrest Gump.
Forrest Gump.
Inception.
Inception.
That's right.
Terms of Endearment.
Terms of Endearment.
Now, you've seen these movies, you know, a number of times, but you probably don't have a clue how many minutes it is.
No idea.
This person got it exactly right, 118 minutes.
to win the tiebreaker.
There were two guys on that team, and they came up,
they said they wanted to guess 120,
but one guy just said, no, I feel like that's too obvious.
It probably, let's just go like 118.
It was 118 minutes.
I didn't see the guy cheat, so I can't, you know, say that he did,
but I don't know if I believe that somebody actually knew that,
or just got lucky and guessed 118 minutes.
Well, it was a lot of fun.
It was.
Great crowd, great energy, and Spider-Man was a great host last night.
Vanessa ran the show for us.
She did a great job there as well.
On the costume, you kind of, you don't want a mask.
Wasn't this secondhand costume?
Do you want a mask in your mouth that someone has let you borrow?
I feel like you won that deal.
Fair point.
Yeah, that probably would have been a little bit weird,
knowing that I'm like, my mouth is where another person was.
And you didn't have to read the questions.
You would have had to read through a mask.
So maybe in hindsight, maybe it was best we didn't have a mask.
Well, it's good in it.
Stop by.
Appreciate that.
Other people were dressed up.
Yeah.
Drew came by, pick him his birthday cake that he got yesterday.
That was delivered right during a funeral talk and a power outage.
What a show.
Did we ever find out what that was?
Because you guys got connected, and then in the background for the next 20 minutes,
we just heard sirens the entire time.
Yeah.
I never heard anything.
But it was obviously some kind of emergency with all the emergency vehicles were going up and down Broadway right there yesterday.
So I don't know.
Did you hear what it was?
No, but we were so nervous and worried about Tom's connection after the week before.
And Billy and Tom got started early, got it working.
We were having a smooth show.
And then downtown Lexington shuts down beyond our control.
that one. Tom will have the true KSR experience
by the time this summer. Yes, he will. He really has.
He's already two for two. Now, the best
story of the night, though, I think, involved you, Billy.
I heard you retell it on the pre-show today.
Matt gave you one
responsibility all summer, basically.
Well, I wouldn't say that, but
this was one of them. One of them was getting us here on top.
Yeah, making sure Ryan shows up.
That's definitely one of them. And the other one
was, you get an Ellie
Billy Cruz bobblehead last night at the Reds
Indians game. You were in charge of that.
That's right.
And it was packed.
What, 45,000 people there last?
42, which was a great American ballpark record for a non-opening day weekday.
And I think all 42,000 showed up 90 minutes before the game started to try to get an L.A.
de la Cruz bobblehead.
And that's when you got there.
That's when I got there with my 16-year-old brother.
It was madness.
There were people screaming.
There were children crying.
I mean, you would have thought that you had to take an elbow to somebody's face just to get a bobblehead.
And right when I got to the palate of the person giving them away, they ran out.
So I had to go find another palette, and luckily I did find one.
But people were taking advantage of the situation.
They were digging three or four bobbleheads right at the beginning,
and then as they got more scarce than it was like everybody only could get one at a time.
It sounds like they weren't prepared for what was about to happen, right?
They didn't realize that the L.A. Dela Cruz bobblehead was going to be as popular as it was.
I think that's correct.
And as crazy as these towns go, when there's like a storm coming and you have to go get toilet paper and milk and egg,
I mean, it was a life or death situation at Great American Ballpark yesterday.
Well, the hero sounds like it was your little 16-year-old brother who went screaming to the pallet for the pallet.
I don't have mine.
I don't have mine.
And they were already out.
He did a little guilt trip there.
He was like, yeah, I don't have mine.
You have to scream at these people because there's no lines.
People are just budging in trying to get these bobbleheads.
But we did secure one.
So we will be able to give that to Matt when he gets back.
There's one already going online for $500.
No, there's not.
We looked it up.
Are you kidding?
On eBay, there is one.
That doesn't mean it's going to sell for that, but it's listed for that.
My goodness.
Well, of course, he backed it up, had such a great game last night.
Struck out three times.
Struck out three times.
O for four did not help the Draft King's account.
So I thought maybe he'd pull out one hit on Allie Dayla Cruz's Bottlehead night.
But as great of a player as he is, he still bats, $2.20 right now.
Well, you know, he gave me the tickets to the Cardinals Reds game,
so I could take my dad to the Cardinals Reds game.
But I think you were second.
Billy, you have to go to this game to get me a bobblehead.
Mission accomplished.
Mission accomplished.
Good job.
So as long as we can get you here on time for the next remote.
I made it.
I made it on time.
What are you talking about?
We had plenty of time to sit and visit and refresh.
So now Matt has like something else to pile up on his desk to prop up, you know,
all those empty McDonald's cups that he's got there on his on his desk.
All the candles and the McDonald's cups down, Ailey Daly, Daly Cruise, 04, 3 strikeout, Bobahead.
There you go.
All right.
We are here at Hotel Lex.
Come on out and see us, man.
It's our, like I said, it's our only live show in Lexington all summer.
And if you come out, you get a free lunch.
How about that?
And if you mentioned KSR, any time from here after this, you're also getting a free meal.
I mean, with an overnight stay.
Don't just come in here and go, I'm going to eat for free.
All right, you got to have an overnight stay.
So come out, stay with Shannon like he did last night here.
We'll get a lot to talk about.
Another basketball opponent we've got to talk about.
We're going to have a live report from Omaha coming up in a couple minutes.
So big show lined up here on Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan Drew, Shannon, Billy.
We'll be right back.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.

I'm talking.
Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth,
or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.

American soccer is about to explode.
The World Cup is coming.
Ramers sending on to Ernie.
I'm Tad Ramos.
I'm Tom Boe.
On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Policic.
I'm not worried about Balagan.
I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfirm.
Finals are potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.
Experience it all with us.

All right, welcome back, everybody.
Hotel Lex over here on Lexington's southeast side.
The investors have bought this hotel, $4 million renovation.
Come by, you can tour it today.
You can get a free lunch today.
Anyone who comes out today gets a certificate for a free appetizer or drink at Barrow 53, which is where we are.
It's the old Bennington's restaurant.
They're having a free lunch for anyone who stays after the show today.
I mean, they've got open mic nights on Tuesday, karaoke on Thursday, live bands on Saturday.
So I just tells me when's Alice Bluegown coming.
Oh, whenever we get the invite.
We don't just show up and start playing.
We've got to be invited first.
But I was telling Billy about, you know, you did open mic night one night or one morning, I guess, at Comedy Off Broadway.
We're talking about your stand-up show that you did.
Yeah, I don't remember.
I'd get in trouble or something?
Is that what was?
Was it a punishment?
It was some sort of punishment.
I remember what it was.
I remember doing it.
I don't remember why he had to, though.
Five-minute stand-up routine.
It's on YouTube, I think.
Is it really?
Every out of somebody will send it to me.
Yeah.
Oh, it's hilarious.
I've got to find this.
Yeah, it's really good.
I have to find photos of you a lot for the website.
And when you Google Ryan Lemon, I think one of the most popular photos that pops up is you
on the stage.
You look like a comic in front of the brick.
Yeah.
Yeah, you got your arms expanded.
If I didn't know you, I'd be like, well, look, this guy.
I've been comedy off Broadway putting on a show.
There it is.
Yeah, first result.
That's it.
Yep.
Look at you.
Now, I'm not.
Eight years ago.
Was that really eight years ago?
Wow.
We were at Comedy Off Broadway.
I remember I didn't tell any jokes.
I just kind of told what I thought were funny stories.
Sometimes that's what you got to do.
I just got to do that.
Just tell some stories.
Freddie Magerson is an interesting tidbit about this hotel out here, Drew.
He did.
This many, many years ago was the official team hotel for the football team when they would stay before home games on
Friday nights.
We're going playing at Commonwealth.
So I didn't know that.
Did you know that?
No, I didn't know that.
Nice little tidbit.
No.
Also good to hear from Freddie.
We saw him yesterday.
He stopped by.
We didn't get to talk to him, but he walked in right when the power went out.
I mean, right when he walked, maybe that's why it walked.
It was almost like an undertaker entrance kind of thing.
He walked in and everything just went off.
But a nice little tidbit here about Hotel Lex.
Now, I know we're going to have a live report from Omaha coming up at 1030 from Darren
Hendrick.
He's out there with the team, so he's going to call us in at 1030.
1030, but there was some basketball news yesterday that came out.
Another opponent that Kentucky will play Clemson in the ACC SEC-S-E-C challenge.
At Clemson, Drew, what was your take on that?
You know, when you think ACC, you want the Dukes or the Carolinas.
So it's not a big name, not a big draw with the history, but they're in the elite eight last year.
Bringing guy back did well in the portal.
That'll be a wild atmosphere.
I think it'll be a tough game, but I'd say,
With the announcement yesterday, most Kentucky fans were disappointed in the logo they were facing.
But I would not overlook Clemson whatsoever.
That coach has been there 15 years now and said they were in.
A shot a few points away from the Final Four last season.
So it's a tough matchup, but it's not the names I think people were looking for.
You know, they're already playing Duke in the Champions Classic, so that they were out.
But I think most people are playing Louisville.
Already playing Louisville.
Play Carolina like every year and something.
Yeah.
So that's why they put us with Miami last year.
got Clemson this year, Shan. Do you like that or not?
I mean, you think of what are your other options, right?
Would you rather have Virginia? They play boring basketball.
I don't think I would rather have Virginia. Virginia Tech.
Eh, maybe. So after you go through and eliminate all the other schools that we just talked about,
that Kentucky is either playing or regularly plays most seasons, then, you know, I'm okay with Clemson.
It's not, like you said, the big name that's going to get everybody excited about it,
but, you know, you've got to play somebody. So I'm totally fine with Clemson.
Like Drew mentioned, some recent success.
They beat Arizona and Baylor in the tournament.
I think they lost to Alabama eventually before losing in the tournament.
So, I mean, I'm a little indifferent on it, but you've got to play somebody,
and so they'll take on the Tigers on the road.
I'm pretty sure Matt and I have been to a Clemson basketball game.
Oh, have you really?
Little John Coliseum.
You know you've been to way too many random games when you can't even remember if you've been at a Clemson basketball game,
but I'm pretty sure we saw them go to double overtime with Maryland in Little John Coliseum.
So I've already seen behind the Clemson enemy lines.
And it is a pretty cool spot if I remember.
Maybe this didn't happen at all.
And I dreamt it on one of those road trips.
But I think one of our CBS or Fox Sports something, we popped in there.
I don't know if UK fans will go.
We got Seattle, New York.
There's a lot.
I don't know what kind of turnout that will be.
But I think we've only played Clemson, like twice since the 30s.
Yeah.
Or no, we're one and two against them.
We're actually down.
We used to beat up on them in the 1930s and then beat him in 97.
before that lost
96-97-ish?
Yeah, we played them
in the late 90s in the tournament,
and that's when they had Greg Buckner
from Hopkinsville was on the team
on Clemson's teams.
I don't think we've played them since then, have they?
Not that I can remember.
So it'd be an interesting one of Kentucky fans
had any interest in going there,
but I don't know how exciting that would be.
So the non-conference schedule
that we know of right now,
Duke in the Champions Classic,
Ohio State, in the CBS Classic,
now Clemson in the ACCC-S-C challenge,
Gonzaga in Seattle, Louisville at home, David Lipscomb, and your Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
As of right now, I believe, the non-conference schedule.
I mean, that's pretty good schedule.
David Lipscomb.
Yeah.
Give it a name.
David Lipscomb University.
That's right.
No, yeah, it's the name.
Yeah.
Did you ever play David Lipscomb in college?
No.
No, I didn't even know.
I didn't know that Lipscomb had a first name.
Oh, they're good baseball school.
I thought it was a Lipscomb.
You make it sound like a guy's coming to Raperina to just take on the cats.
Well, you play Ohio State, Western.
and then David Lipscomb.
Listen, you don't play Morris, you play Robert Morris.
It's true.
You know?
You're not wrong.
I've never heard David Lipscomb until five seconds ago.
We used to play him in baseball.
No.
In Nashville.
No, I've heard of Lipscomb.
Didn't know what was David.
Aaron Fleener, an alum.
That's right.
He'll be at that game.
He'll probably be a big Mee-Maw game and Ruppering.
But that is a strong non-conference schedule.
Is it not?
I mean, you know, again, you look at okay.
What about the games at Rupp?
But you can't control it.
you know, the neutral games are what they are.
So we got Louisville on a Saturday before Christmas.
Yeah.
Which is good.
You know, that was my complaint that.
December home schedule leading up to Christmas was pretty weak the last several years.
But at least we got Louisville in one of those Saturdays.
Western David Lipscomb.
There'll be some other weaker schools.
I'm sure they'll fill out that home schedule in November December.
You're the one that's always been really vocal about the lack of good teams coming into Rupp for the non-conference.
So are you going to just wait in reserve judgment until we see it?
the full thing or like how are you feeling about it? Well, I'm already I'm happy with Louisville
coming in and western Kentucky. I've always felt like you know there should be a good game like
that whether it's Moorhead State or Eastern or Murray or Western or somebody should Northern.
How are you feeling about Dave Lipscomb? Yes, that's more of the one that you would normally
that's of that, you know, I don't want to call them cupcakes, but those are the ones you normally
have an issue with. The non-conference schedule, home schedule was loaded with
those type of games. North Florida that I had never even heard of. They didn't even know it existed.
When you're playing all these other tough teams, you've got to lighten the schedule a little bit.
Otherwise, you're just playing a murderer's row, and then you go into the SEC.
I mean, it's going to be great for your strength of schedule.
Are you trying to tell me your playing scared?
You don't want to play those teams?
But you're already playing a ton of great teams.
I don't think Ohio State's going to be all that good.
I don't think Clemson's all that good.
I'm hoping that Ohio State game is the end of the CBS Classic.
It's been fun.
Let's move on.
We need to add Maui.
We've got to get rid of some of these classics and get some Maui.
Well, that's the thing.
Pope has already said he'd like to go back to Maui.
That's the one that would probably go.
We've seen enough CBS.
It's only appropriate.
It ends with Ohio State.
So let's just go out with that.
We will get the Aaron Bradshaw.
That's right.
Joel Justice.
That too.
Now, we do have some other player news.
Dante Allen made a new decision, didn't he, Billy?
That's right.
He's going to his third school in six years, I think it is, getting that COVID extra year.
And now he's going to Wyoming.
Wyoming.
So from Kentucky to Western to Wyoming.
He did his photo shoot not with a blue plastic shovel, but with a cowboy hat on.
Nice.
You like that, Ryan.
Well, you know, you're in Wyoming.
You got to do as Wyomingans do out there.
Do they all wear cowboy hats?
I think you're right.
You're right.
Very stereotypical.
We've been through Wyoming.
We had a good time.
We've been through Wyoming.
This is the first time he's played basketball outside of Kentucky.
I mean, he went from UK to Western.
He played it.
Was it Pendleton County?
Yes.
I mean, he's spreading his wings and getting outside the bluegrass with that six year of basketball.
So good luck.
Best of luck to him.
A couple of nudes, just no news notes, just down the road at EKU.
A couple of nudes.
A couple of nudes.
That's across the street.
Hey.
Anyone that knows this exit.
Good reference.
Eastern Kentucky University has hired a new AD, and he's a familiar guy.
Kyle Motez, who used to be at Kentucky working under Mitch Barnhart.
He's been at Missouri State the last several years.
He's the new athletic director at EKU.
and they have a new football player we've heard of, Vito Tisdale.
Oh, I didn't see the Vito News.
It's going to EKU.
Vito's going to be a colonel.
So he went from UK, did one year with the Dion experience,
and he's coming back home to Richmond.
You know, I think I thought it was going to be a star at Kentucky.
I mean, I really did.
He came in a lot of ability, but other issues, I think,
impeded his success at Kentucky.
But, man, when he hit somebody, it was fun.
Yeah.
We preferred it to always be in bounds.
Sometimes he's a little late on those hits, but he played with the fire.
I hope it goes well at Eastern.
So we are at Hotel Lex.
We're at the corner of I-75 and Athens Boothboro Road.

the stuff nobody gets to hear.
The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real.
From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial
calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.

in the mental health field and conversations
with so many incredible guests.
I'm talking.
Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough
because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

This is Clivert Taylor the Fourth.
And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Quarterback on office blue 42.
Hey, ref, my mama wants you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Ms. Parker.
Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
What's up, fam?
This Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast.
The podcast point game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed.
He has to guard.
Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get to flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan, Drew, Shannon, Billy, live at the Hotel Lex, new hotel out here at the corner of Athens, Boonsboro Road, and I-75, a beautiful hotel that they've renovated.
$4 million worth of renovation.
Coming out and join us today, you get a free lunch.
And if you stay, you can mention KSR, you get a free dinner.
They got a lot of great prizes and stuff going on.
We mentioned David Lipscomb University on the A-Vision Glass Text Machine, which is 502-735-36-80.
Somebody said, we don't forget Cornelius Vanderbilt University.
Yeah, we don't call it Cornelius, though.
This Vanderbilt.
I think I also want to start calling it Cornelius-Vos.
I'm sure there's plenty of others.
Full names of these universities.
All right.
Of course, the UK baseball team left yesterday for Omaha in the College Baseball World Series.
we saw a large crowd show up out there at Kentucky Proud Park to send the team off,
which was kind of cool to see.
They're out there and joining us now to give us a live report with what's going on
and how things are shaking out there is the play-by-play guy,
the voice of the UK baseball team.
Darren Hedrick, Darren, how are things going out in Omaha so far?
Ryan, it's fabulous out here, man.
It's warm already.
Temperatures in the 80s or 90s, but, man, what a beautiful day.
And they do it up big out here in Omaha, man.
This is first class.
Hey Darren, Drew Franklin here.
I'm going to tag team the interview with Ryan here talking to you.
I couldn't make it out there yesterday to the sendoff, but I saw pictures and could not believe how many fans showed up to send that team off.
Were you out there?
What was that experience like?
And were you shocked by how many fans showed up for the supporter?
Did you just think that was the next big thing they're doing after the last two weekends at Kentucky Broad Park?
You know what, Drew, I wasn't surprised at all to see the fans show up the way they did, especially after selling out.
the ballpark during that super regional against Oregon State.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see it firsthand because I was too busy trying to get ready to
travel and get on the airplane.
I was with a different party, but man, what a side it was to see all those pictures
and the videos.
And I'm telling you, man, this Big Blue Nation has embraced this team and they've embraced
them.
It's been really fun to see.
Now, you know, Darren, you hear coaches all the time talk about the dilemma they have when
this is the first time they've gone to the college world series.
Your coach is like first time when they've been to the final four,
it's hard to, you know, you want them to enjoy the moment and soak it all up.
At the same time, you still got a job,
but you still got to go out and win games.
Have you talked to Mingione, or is he doing some things to try to help that situation
and keep them focused, but yet still let them enjoy the moment?
You know, it's a great question, Ryan, but to be honest with you,
this team has just a pro-this team has had a business-like approach all season long,
and it's focused on what's in front of them.
And I think today when they get on the field for the first time to practice
and speak to the media, they might be a little wide-eyed as we all will,
and they'll be soaking it in and taking in the moment.
But once it comes time for first pitch against NC State on Saturday,
this group will be focused on one thing,
and that's winning five games to bring home a trophy.
Well, go ahead and tell us a little about NC State.
You're a pro.
I assume you've already done a little bit of your notes.
Can you reveal some of what you've learned about the Wolfpack?
looking ahead of that game on Saturday?
Yeah, NC State is a really tough team, obviously, or they wouldn't be here.
I mean, they're 38 and 21.
They win 18 and 11 in the ACC, but they're red hot right now.
Outside of Florida, they may be one of the hottest teams coming into the college
old series.
I think they've won something like 18 of their last 23.
Their offense is tough.
It's full of veteran season's hitters, similar to Kentucky.
Their pitching staff is quality arms on the front end.
Their bullpen is a real strength.
They have a lot of depth there in their bullpen.
So this is going to be a tough matchup, but I believe, guys, it's a rematch of the regional from 2017.
So this is fun.
Now, you mentioned, you know, hot teams.
I mean, no pitching staff is hotter than the Kentucky pitching staff.
What those guys did against Oregon State was unbelievable.
Like the only two runs they give up are on basis loaded walks.
They just shut them down.
They gave up three hits in those two games.
These guys are on fire right now.
Yeah, it was really impressive the job they did against Oregon State.
That's one of the best offenses in the country,
and the way Kentucky was able to shut them down,
which was just impressive to watch.
And it all started with Trey Pouser and his free pitch mix,
his ability to land his change-up and his breaking ball.
But, you know, it's just, it all starts with a fastball.
And right now these Kentucky pitchers are establishing that heater
and working their secondary pitches off of it.
And, you know, this may be one of the best jobs that Dan Roselle has done
since he came to Kentucky in terms of getting these guys.
guys prepared and also calling the right pitches to get them in advantageous spots to throw up zeros.
Hey, Darren, this is Billy. I'm going to be joining you on Saturday on the board for our broadcast
on the UK Sports Network. So excited to join you this weekend. Hopefully we can get a win for the Cats.
And first of all, I want to say that was a great final call that you had as the Cats won the Super
Regional. I know a lot of broadcasters right out their opening, but do you plan out your ending at all?
I mean, is a historic win like that?
Do you think about what you're going to say, or do you try to just keep it in the moment?
Billy, great question.
And to be honest with you guys, I had thought about it long and often.
Normally, I don't do it because the last thing I ever want is to have a final call or a big moment found contrived.
But that was such a, the magnitude of that moment was such.
It was so historical that I did go in with an outline.
And, you know, I even had to glance down because it's like I told Coach,
Mingeone earlier this week. It's not my call. It's the team's call. This is their moment.
This is the history that this team has earned and gotten to, and it's the coach's moment.
And so, you know, you feel pressure as the broadcaster because you want to nail that moment for them.
That's how it's going to be remembered on the highlight videos and everything else.
So, yeah, I cheated a little bit on this one, but typically I would tell you I don't just because I don't want to fall into that trap.
But definitely I was prepared to that moment.
This is more of a compliment, but I got a chance to listen to two full games on road trips this year
and heard you call every pitch thoroughly enjoyed your broadcast.
And I had me wondering as a guy who just sits up here and yaps with Ryan and the guys,
what's different about a radio baseball broadcast than typical radio?
You've done basketball, other things.
What's something that makes a baseball game unique on your end when you're in the booth?
Well, first, I appreciate you saying that, Drew.
That means a lot.
But, you know, for me, baseball is fun on the radio because there's so much downtime.
I think baseball may be the hardest sport to call, even on TV or radio,
because there's so much downtime in between pitches.
And you've got to learn to be able to paint the picture well,
and you've got to be able to tell stories and weave those into the broadcast
and around what's happening in the game.
You don't want it to become a sports talk show where a baseball game breaks out,
but you do want to weave your storylines and background on the players.
And that's the fun part for me, guys,
is getting to know these coaches and players
and being able to tell their stories apart from whether or not
they had two hits in the game or struck out seven batters.
That's really the fun part for me is telling their background stories,
and that's what I enjoy the most about it.
Darren, I want to ask you one more about the broadcast.
How happy are you for Keith Madison?
I mean, a guy that's laid down the foundation for so many years,
and now he's able to see this success.
guys have done a great job on the air all year, but have you had some off-the-air conversations
with him about how much this means to him?
Man, I've never been hugged so hard in my life as when we went to break after that
final call. It was so much fun, guys, seeing him grand from here to year, just knowing the
25 years that he toiled and laid the foundation, trying to build this baseball program at Kentucky
and get the resources and support, and now to see it, you know, a couple of coaches go by,
and then Nick Mingeone arrives, and he has brought it to the pinnacle that everybody had always,
that Coach Madison had always hoped for, was really fun,
and there were two moments that stood out to me in the aftermath of that win.
Number one was Devin Burke's reaction on the called strike three when he just reared back with both arms in the air,
and the other one was looking beside me in the radio booth,
and seeing Coach Madison grinning from ear to ear and just full of excitement, man.
I still get goosebumps thinking about those moments.
Well, that's awesome, man.
Great question, because we all love Coach Madison,
and I know it means a big deal to him to get to enjoy this ride with you guys.
So the games at 2 o'clock on Saturday, when we guys start to the broadcast?
145, Darren?
Is that when we're starting?
Yeah, 145 airtime, Coach Madison and I will have the call.
He's here in Omaha.
He's excited, ready to go, and our Hux Market pregame report will start at 145 Eastern,
and we'll count down to first pitch and rock and roll from there.
All right, well, man, we appreciate you.
joining us. Best of luck out there. Enjoy it.
For you also, kind of, you know, take a moment
to kind of look around and
take it all in because it's a once in a lifetime
experience most of the time. So congratulations to you
also, Darren. Appreciate
you, Ryan. Guys, thanks for having me, and you're right.
I'm going to soak in the moment.
I hope all the BBN traveling out to Omaha
takes a minute just to soak it in
and appreciate what this team has accomplished
because it's been a fun ride, guys, and hopefully
we got five more wins to go.
Amen. Yeah. There we go. Darren Hedrick.
Thanks, buddy. Appreciate Darren Hedrick, the voice of the U.K.
baseball team. It is kind of, you know, special. You want them to enjoy it, but at the same time,
Drew, you got to go out to win these games. First, I like hearing the Keith's out there.
I mean, we assumed he would go. That's cool. You know, you've got to be grinning from here to
here out there and enjoying Omaha. But yeah, he's right. And I like hearing he said that they
had this business approach because I feel like sometimes they get mislabeled a little bit as just
all the nonsense. They are wearing the pink hats and getting the crowd doing the dances.
But as Min Jones said on the show before, they're only allowed to do that because they have the business
attitude when it comes to the actual baseball.
And I think they're focused and dialed in.
We just saw them win five games in Lexington, give up three hits in the Super,
hoping they stay hot when they go to Omaha.
I like the matchup.
So if you can't make it, we'll have watch parties out at KS Bar and Grill,
then to come out and watch the games out there with us.
Yeah, come on out.
It's going to be a lot of fun.
Looking forward to it, should be a really exciting weekend.
And then if we get to next weekend, we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves,
but you may be heading out there, right?
We've got to go.
Yeah, we'll figure something out.
We've got a couple shows we've got to do next week, but after that we can figure it out.
get out there.
Abby and I are getting ready for this big vacation.
She looked at me and she was like,
do I need to pack for them all too?
I'm like that.
Yes.
It's a possibility.
That's all I'm saying.
It's a possibility.
All right.
Well, take our break.
Come back.
Go to the phone lines.
859-2802-287.
That's the Clark's Publishout phone number.
Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Billy.
We'll be right back.

Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan, Drew, Shane, and Billy here.
We're live at Hotel Lex.
Brand new hotel at the corner of Athens, Bootsboro Road and I-75.
We're in the Barrel 53 restaurant and grill where you come out today, you're going to get a free lunch.
I mean, why not come on out, Billy?
You're just hanging around and you want a free lunch?
Come on out and join us.
You're on a $20 a week paycheck, something like that?
You've got to get all the free lunches you can find.
Now, Drew, this is from the A Vision Glass Text Machine.
Ryan, we've always called them David Lipscomb as well.
David Lipscomb as well.
There we go.
I had on the Drew Franklin text machine a Lipscomb graduate
say that she went there, has a degree, and they didn't call it that.
Never even heard of that.
I guess they dropped the David part years ago.
Just filled unnecessary.
But in the 80s it was David Lipscomb.
Who's a segment sponsored by?
Sponsored by Stockton Mortgage.
I'm so glad you asked because Stockton Mortgage is here for you whether you want to refinance,
where you want to buy a new house, or maybe you want to do a cash-out refinest.
find, you know, you're moving into a new house.
Right.
You may want to put on like a new deck or build a pool.
You want to do a home equity line of credit.
Stockton Mortgage can help you.
Okay.
Just check them out.
Give them a try.
You work with the same loan officer throughout the entire process.
That's one thing I like about it because you do these online programs.
You talk to somebody different all the time and they've got to start all over.
You don't want to do that.
Go to Stockton Mortgage.
Stockton.com.
There's a button right there says, get started.
That's where you want to go.
Stockton Mortgage, NMLS, 8259 Equal Housing Lender.
I'm looking.
It's owned by David Stockton.
Do you want to call it David Stockton mortgage?
Why not?
Get those first names in there.
Brandon Stockton.
Another David.
Yeah?
There we go.
Just helping you out there.
Get the full name, right?
There's got to be other schools like Robert Morris.
Yeah, but I mean, that's already in the name.
Well, they don't call it Morris College.
No.
It's Robert Morris.
You're trying to think of names that just have one name.
No, a guy's a person's name.
Sure.
Yeah.
There's got to be more.
Hit us up on the A.
I don't have any.
502, 735, 36, 80.
Also, we talk about this baseball.
It is the state high school baseball final four.
We played the first two rounds, Billy, last week,
and then now they split it up, bring them back for the final four the next weekend,
to give your pitching staff a little time to rest.
Ah, okay.
You're not throwing an eighth grader or your fifth or sixth starter in the state championship game.
So we split it up.
We played two rounds last weekend, coming back this weekend,
two rounds at Kentucky Proud Park this weekend.
Okay, at KPP, that's a cool opportunity, too.
So they space it out.
Do you know who's left?
Yeah, I do.
We're going to make our picks.
That's it.
All right.
The first game tomorrow is an all Louisville semifinal.
Trinity versus PRP at 10 o'clock tomorrow at Kentucky Proud Park.
Trinity versus PRP.
Who you got?
I'm going to take the rocks.
They're good.
You know who that is?
Trinity.
It's Trinity.
That's right.
So I got Trinity.
I will also take Trinity for no reason other than it just feels right.
Yeah, they recruit to their sports.
I think Trinity has an edge.
I'm going to go to the Rocks too.
Well, I guess I'll be the heel.
I'll take PRP.
You don't have to.
You can take Trinity if you want to.
Go with your heart.
Well, you always pick it.
You have one guy pick the other team.
I don't do it just to be, you know, contrarian.
I do it because that's who I think.
So if you think Trinity, take Trinity.
I'm going to try to pick winners.
Yeah.
On the second game then is McCracken County versus Owensboro Catholic.
That game schedule started at 1.30 at Kentucky Prout.
Park.
On McCracken County.
I had strong belief in McCracken County last weekend.
Still riding with Western Kentucky.
Well, I guess they're both Western Kentucky.
Still riding with McCracken County.
First region and third region here in this one.
I'm going with McCracken.
I'll go Owensboro Catholic then.
I like Owensboro Catholic, but I picked against McCracken County last week.
And I know one of their moms of one of the players really well.
She used to work at Channel 18, Suzanne Farmer.
So that matters.
Her son, Andrew, plays, scored a big run.
their win.
Come on.
Come on.
Come to the McCracken side.
Here's the whole
clincher.
The whole team came to...
KS. Bar?
KS. Bar?
Is that what happened?
Yeah.
What about Owensboro Catholic?
What if they eat there?
Well, the Oldsboro Catholic guy,
Vic Evans is doing his radio show
from K.S. Bar and Grill again.
Oh, we like that.
Okay.
Did he show their last Friday?
So you don't make me feel bad. They like him, too.
So who are you taking?
You didn't pick one?
I'm going to have to pick McCracken,
which is, you know what their school name is.
The guy's name is.
Phil.
Phil.
Oh.
Bill, what?
Come on.
Oh, Lord, no.
Dang.
Oh, man.
I wish our listeners could see his face.
We got to rain in, Ryan.
This is what Matt talked about.
We got to.
That was a Bart Simpson joke.
How proud was he, though?
He was.
Yeah.
He's still crack it up about it.
Look at this guy.
Okay.
Give him five minutes on open mic night up here next week.
I'm going to crack.
He sure there wasn't any bourbon in that Coke.
Oh.
Who are you picking?
You haven't picked you?
After the Phil McCracken joke, I'm taking Owensboro Catholic.
Actually, I'm going to change mine after that joke.
I'm going Owensboro.
All right, 859-2-287.
We got a caller.
We got a caller.
We got, Matt.
Kentucky Joe.
Go ahead, sir.
Yes, it's baseball time.
Two days.
It is baseball time in two days.
I'm so excited.
It's good to hear.
You sound really excited.
Yeah, I just.
I've got songs in my head, but I don't, I don't, but, uh, I mean, it's a great show today.
You all, you're all doing a hundred job.
You know, it's not, not a best of it.
It's not that great of a show show show.
We're halfway there.
Uh, hey, but, but the first thing I need to say, happy birthday.
To baby Drew?
Yeah, yeah, baby, thank you, Kentucky Joe.
And the thing is, Drew.
And the thing is Drew is only, he's only 29 years old.
Add 10 to that, but you're close.
I know how old because of Ms. Tyler.
Okay, yep.
I saw on the KSR site, Facebook site.
About a decade off, but thank you.
Well, are you going to Omaha?
Joe, are you going to Omaha?
No, I'd love to go.
I love, I've got a little song here.
Oh, yes.
We've got like 30 seconds.
We've got like 30 seconds.
Hurry up to do it.
Quickly. Let's go.
Yeah, yeah, I can do it.
All right, go out.
Sing us out.
We'll do the real quick, yeah, quick Stuggie Jill song.
20 seconds.
10 seconds.
You're wasting time.
Go, Joe, go.
They're strong.
They've got a mission to carry out.
Those bad cats are on my phone.
We're gonna
We're gonna touch the fans there
And BB and knows what's this sure
All I'm gonna say is what like flows
Roll, roll, roll on backcats
Roll on to victory
In your Kentucky team
You're one of the best
Roll on to victory.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, ro on to victory.
There it is.
Roll on to victory.
Wow.
Do it.
By Kentucky Joel.
It'll be skying up the charts later today.
So, good back cats.
Thank you, Joe.
We appreciate it.
Hope that does it for them.
All right.
We'll take our break.
Come back.
Ryan, Drew, Shannon, Billy.
We're live at Hotel Lex.
Come on out.
Good time.
Oh, yeah.
You too, Joe.
You too, Joe.
Good job, buddy.
We'll be right back.
