Now here's Matt Jones.
All right, welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan, Shannon, Billy, and Mario.
We are live on our KSR summer pop-up summer tour at Jay Mattingly, 1845 distillery in Frankfurt at 20 Riley Road.
We're on Saturday they've got the tasting of the 78 Legends bourbon, the 50-year-old bourbon.
It's kind of cool to have Kyle Macy, Rick Robby, and Jack Givens on with us that first hour talking about the bourbon.
I mean, people are going to be excited about the bourbon, but they're going to be really excited with those guys being here on Saturday.
That's right, yeah.
I mean, an added bonus to come out here, not only try a 50-year-old bourbon, but also get to do it with the second.
78 Legends as well.
And we've got some programming notes we've got to talk about.
First of all, we have postponed Singo tonight at KS. Bar and Grill.
Okay.
Won-w-want-want.
I think it's the right call.
It was.
We've got a baseball game to win tonight.
The game is at 7.
We had Singo scheduled for 7, so we're just going to move single.
We're still going to do it.
But tonight we want all our focus, Billy, on the U.K. baseball game.
I think that's the right call.
Everybody's going to be at the bar for the watch party, getting ready to watch the cats,
hopefully beat Florida tonight.
What is, you know, when you're at the bar, can you ask for the game audio to be on?
Or what's the, what's the etiquette?
Yeah.
Because, I mean, you know, you could have the UK baseball game on, but have one person come in and say,
I want to listen to the NBA finals.
You just get overruled at that point?
You do.
The majority kind of rules, and whatever game we have on the big monster screen,
that's the game the audio will have in the restaurant.
Here's the thing.
I don't think it's out of line if you go into a bar that's got 50 TVs,
and you say, I want to watch whatever.
The soccer match.
Yes.
The Euro, as we were talking about, in the pre-show.
But then when you ask for audio,
now you're getting a little too big for your bridges,
if you're coming in and demanding that everybody else
who wants to watch a Kentucky baseball game
has to listen to the audio of your soccer match.
So you get, I think, the TV, I think, that's perfectly fond to ask for.
Majority kind of rules.
Now, we had, like, the Celtics Mavs on a couple TVs sprinkled throughout the restaurant last night.
But, like, Marlick, we were talking about such a blowout.
nobody was paying attention to the basketball game last night.
I was watching two games.
I was watching Kentucky baseball in the Celtics Mavs game.
And Shannon, I do have a question for you, man.
I definitely have a question for you.
I got a question for you.
Who has the most NBA titles?
The Boston Celtics.
Congratulations to all the Boston Celtics fans.
You know, they definitely deserve it.
But the questions about Deuce, what is it with the NBA and Deuce?
Deuce, if you guys know, I'm not sure if you know Ryan Deuce.
is Jason Tatum's son.
Okay.
For whatever reason, he has to be involved on all the social media pages for the NBA and all this good stuff.
So I want to ask it, is Deuce that important?
I think he is.
I think he's the good luck charm.
And, you know, it was just Father's Day, what, two days ago?
I think it's just, you know, just, you know, just, they'll be in a nice, a good dad, right?
Father's.
Taking care of his son.
Father's Day.
Yeah.
Yes.
It is because of a trendy thing in professional sports when they come into the news.
You bring your kid with you.
I don't know who started that.
Steph Curry, maybe?
Yeah, maybe it was.
I mean, it probably went before that, but when Steph did it, his kid was really cute.
It was a big thing.
But I'm proud of young Mario over here.
Look at him hating on the children, just like I.
That's right.
We have two people.
Half the show hates kids.
I don't hate kids.
We don't care about deuce.
I don't care about this.
So Singo is postponed tonight.
We'll have the UK baseball game on, watch party.
7 o'clock.
You'll listen on the radio.
Darren Hedrick pregame show begins at 645.
That's right.
645 tonight.
Now also some other.
programming notes, Tom Hart has been doing Wednesdays.
He can't do tomorrow, but he has a great excuse and a great reason why he can't do tomorrow.
You know what he's doing?
Let us be the judge, if this is a good excuse or not.
Tom is tapping out tomorrow.
He won't be in because he is substituting on the Atlanta Braves radio network broadcast this week.
He'll do the radio broadcast all week for the Atlanta Braves.
Wow, okay.
You're a brave guy.
Being a Braves fan, if you said, Shannon, look, you can.
can go away for a week. You can call the Braves game with like Skip Carey. No, Rustin P. Skip
Kerry. Who's their other guy they have now? I don't know who they have now.
Joe Simpson, I think he's still alive. If they said you could go and be with the Braves for a week,
I would probably do it too. So I think that is an excused absence. When he was talking to me about,
he was so excited, Billy, because this is kind of his dream. He lives in Atlanta. He wants to call
Major League Baseball, and he gets to substitute for the whole week on the Braves Radio Network.
We all support him. Yeah, I caught the end of his NC State game that he was.
was doing. Unfortunately, he's not
with the College World Series team, but this is a
huge opportunity for Tom. We wish him the best of luck
and hopefully he doesn't have as many technical
difficulties as he's had
the last two times he's been on. Well,
to be fair, it was the entire KSR
Bar power block going down
last time. Yes, it was. Now,
I'm glad you mentioned the College World Series, because
Tom will not say this.
But he kind of got the shaft
and he's not on the college baseball
broadcast team.
I mean, like you said, he did the NC
state game. You know, he does
college baseball. And he
won't say it, but we're going to say it for him.
He kind of got the shaft. They kind of left him
off the broadcast roster for the College World Series.
And I'm not happy about it. I'm not happy
about it either. He's my favorite play-by-play guy.
Of course, right next to Sean McDonough,
who is my second favorite. But, yeah, I mean,
obviously Big Blue Nation loves him
because of all the little things that he
sprinkles into the broadcast, KSR references
and everything. But I think, set that
aside, I think he is legitimately
one of the absolute best play-by-play guy
I agree.
For football or basketball.
Or baseball.
So he didn't get on the World Series broadcast team, Mario,
but he got to do the Atlanta Braves this week.
So I think it's a pretty good little trade-off for our boy, Tom.
Yeah, yeah, he deserves it.
He'll be back a week from Monday.
I think he's doing a Tuesday.
Oh, that's right.
Next week.
I try, because we've got the remote for the TBT tournament.
Yes, that's right.
We're going to be a Rupp Arena for the bracket reveal.
Bracket reveal.
You know, GM Billy may have lined up a couple interviews for that.
Oh, GM Billy.
We'll see. We should have a good time, though.
So are you responsible for us getting Rick Robey, Kyle Macy, and Jack Givis?
No, I'm not going to take credit for that.
You should.
That was Maddie over there, but we're a team, and we did get the interviews, so that's good.
One other programming note, we didn't get to talk about it much yesterday,
but the new Shannon the Dude Brew debuted Friday night at KS Bar and Grill,
and the place was packed for it.
I'm really excited about this.
You know, I got universal approval, too.
I went up to every table.
I said, do you like the beer?
You know, be honest with me.
Everybody seemed to really like it.
But thanks to everybody who came out to that.
And Country Boy Brewing, these guys are absolute masters at what they do.
It's incredible.
You can just give them an idea of, like, what you like in a beer,
and then they just churn it out for you just like that.
So I'm really happy about this beer.
It's a hazelnut brown L.
The people look at like a dark beer, and they think, well, it's heavy, right?
But this is a light beer that drinks very light.
You can have many as you want responsibly, of course.
but it's going to be soon available everywhere across the state.
How can people get it?
Like it will be in cans, like a liquor barn or program?
Yes.
There's going to be, you know, they've got to create the label
and, of course, you know, do all that, the processing of it.
But then eventually, I would say probably in the next six weeks or so,
it should be out in liquor stores and you'll be able to go out
and just pick up a pack of Shannon the dudes' brew and take it home with you.
I can confirm.
I had not two but three of them the other day.
Slow down.
It was really good.
We got him an Uber home.
And it was great to see the Country Boy guys out there, like Mason and D.H.
And Pete, their marketing guy.
He told me, Ryan, that they're covering my wedding when it comes to beer.
Whoa.
He said, don't worry about it.
It's going to be all Shannon the Dude Brew?
No, I don't know if we'll allow Shannon the Dude Brew.
But Shotgun Wedding would be more appropriate.
Shotgun wedding.
You know, the blonde ale, pale ale that they have.
So they've got a great selection, and I was a little surprised to hear that.
So shout out to our guys at Country Bowl.
Do you have a date set?
We don't.
No, we're still trying to actively do that.
We're looking at the summer of 26.
Wow.
They got to save a little money.
26.
Not in the best scenario for, you know, relatives to pay for the wedding.
Ryan and I are going to get married before he does.
Ryan may get married before I do.
Is that so right?
What do you think about that?
Shannon, you're the guy.
You've been with Sarah for 25 years now.
It's time.
It's time.
You've got a new house.
You just moved, so.
Yeah, yeah.
You got more experience than.
I do, though.
So I do.
I'm a two-time winner of that department.
So since Tom Hart will not be on tomorrow, we will be at KS Bar and Grill.
We'll all be there for the show.
And we have a special guest.
Jasper Johnson is going to come and join us.
Jasper Johnson, one of the top high school basketball players in the country.
Right, lives right in Lexington.
He's going to join us tomorrow at 1030s.
He's being recruited right now, Shannon, by everybody.
Well, that's going to be exciting.
And, yeah, a guy that I'm sure, like you said, everybody is.
excited to hopefully have play for them, right?
So looking forward to that tomorrow.
One word.
Stutt.
Oh, yeah.
He's one of those guys like Reed Shepard.
He plays better when he's surrounded by these top-level players.
I thought Reed was that way.
When Reed was playing at the high-level AAU, his game just got elevated.
I think Jasper's kind of the same way, Billy.
Reed, who might be the number one overall pick in the draft next week.
How about that?
We'll talk about that on the pre-show.
Ryan Rusillo was saying, are we ready for him to go number?
one, the best shooting prospect he's seen in the last 20 years?
You think about that for a minute.
20 years.
The best shooter he's seen.
And Ryan Rusillo covers the NBA.
Like, he knows basketball. He's not just talking.
He knows it.
So when he says something like that, I kind of trust his opinion.
Who would have thought Reed Shepard has the potential, you know, to be the number one
pick?
I never would have thought that.
No.
No.
At this time last year, before they even went to Canada, I think people were thinking he's
going to be like maybe seventh, eighth, eighth, eighth.
man third guard off the bench or something like that I remember having the conversation after the
year before Shepard came in we were talking about he could be a three-point special that comes off
the bench like you said and be maybe the well he did come off the bench actually but what I mean
is what he was what's crazy we were actually right on our point though is he was much more of a
contributor overall than what we it thought oh no doubt the season it started and for for him to go
to that expectation to talking about being the number one pick is incredible.
Can I say that Robert Dillingham might be the biggest sleeper in the draft?
His draft stock has kind of slid down in the last few weeks,
but I think he's definitely going to be a sleeper in this NBA draft.
Look out for Robert Dillingham.
Don't forget about Robert Dillingham.
Is Dillingham still top five, though?
Does he slip that far?
I think some projections got him around top ten.
Really?
Yeah, he slipped.
He slipped.
I don't know why, but he's definitely slipped.
Well, it'll be fun.
That's Wednesday the 28th.
Drew and I are supposed to be bartenders that night at KS Bar and Grill the night of the NBA draft.
Hold on a minute.
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
You're going to be a bartender?
Apparently so.
Do you know how to properly pour a beer?
It's good question.
You've got to tilt the glass, right?
That's true.
Yes.
And you've got to slowly pull the lever back.
Well, there is a craft to it because they asked me to go pour one of my own beers the other night.
And they said, you've got to do it a certain way.
Like, you do have to tilt the glass.
Yeah.
But you don't want to just, like, pull it correct.
Too hard.
Yeah.
But you also don't want to do it too slowly.
So there's a fine art to pouring a nice craft beer or any draft beer to where you don't have too much of the foam on top.
They call that the head.
The head?
That's right.
Well, I'm going to have lots of practice, I think, because we're going to be back there the whole first round of the NBA draft next Wednesday night.
So don't get the first beer, otherwise it may be all for me.
So what's your drink knowledge right or like?
You know, if I wanted a white Russian, would you be able to make that for me?
No.
I can make you a white Russian, but like a lot of those other drinks I don't know how to do.
I'm just going to be on the beer.
I'm the beer handle guy.
Oh, so you say you're going to be a bartender.
You're just the designated craft pour.
Somebody wants an old-fashioned.
I'm like, hey, Tiana, can you come here and help with this one?
I can't do it.
I would like to see.
I think it would be better if we just like let you do it, whatever you do.
No help.
I like this.
I got to put some of this in there, put some of that in there, a little this, a little that.
We'd have to cop a lot of drinks, wouldn't we?
Now, while we're also talking about tomorrow, also, you guys all have a little homework.
We're going to get back on the counties and Taylor County's on deck.
Taylor County.
I was just there for.
Friday night in Campbellsville.
So everybody come with your own fun fact
about Taylor County tomorrow.
You know, last week I was a big fan of Taylor'sville.
Wait until you hear what I got for Taylor County.
Yeah, let me apologize to the people
of Taylor County for Shannon the dude
coming after them tomorrow for one
reason or another, but okay, we'll get back
on the train and do that. Tomorrow you too.
You have to have a fun fact for Taylor County or
Campbellsville tomorrow on our county show.
All right, well, take our break. We need to take some phone calls.
859-280-2287.
859-2-80 catch.

And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough,
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

American Soccer is about to explode.
The World Cup is coming.
Ramos sending on to Ernie Stewart the chip.
I'm Tad Ramos.
I'm Tom Bo.
On our podcast, Inside American Soccer,
you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Policic.
I'm not worried about Balligan.
I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals
or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.

What's up fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have
Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get to fly.
He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan, Shannon, Billy, and Mario here at Jay Mattingley's 1845 distillery in Frankfurt.
We just got an updated weather report from Omaha, Nebraska, Billy, and it doesn't sound too good.
Yeah, I'm not watching the meteorologist in Omaha right now, but I am getting updates.
One on Twitter from Brian, who is saying that there's a major storm that's supposed to roll through Omaha tonight from 5 p.m. to midnight.
So that'll obviously back up the Cats game several hours or the possibility that they have to play it tomorrow morning.
I wonder what would happen if that were the case.
Would they have to play two games in one day?
They might.
They might make them play a morning game and then that night game against Texas A&M.
That's going to be some major controversy if that has to happen, right?
I mean, I'm sure it's happened in the past, but could you not just push it back a day?
I don't know if that's exactly what would happen.
But, you know, you've got to think they want to fit those games in and stay on schedule.
TV contracts, yeah.
The Florida A&M game a couple nights ago was in a four-hour delay.
Didn't start until 1130 Eastern.
Correct.
So, I mean, I'm sure they'll start a game if they can up all the way up until midnight.
We were talking about Tom Hart doing the radio broadcast.
The Atlanta Braves TV broadcaster is from Evansville, Brandon Godden.
Okay.
I knew his dad.
His dad, I think, was a soccer coach there at Evansville Harrison.
But, yeah, so Brandon Godden was doing the TV while Tom Hart was doing the radio.
Tom's doing the Tigers series.
Get ready to play the Tigers, so he still got a couple more games to go.
You know, back in the 90s when the Braves were on TBS, I knew all the broadcasters, you know?
Yeah.
Skip Kerry, Don Sutton, Pete Van Weren, Vin Scully.
Skip Perry was one of the best.
Yeah.
Skip and, of course, Harry Carey was the goat.
He was of all time, right?
That's some legendary stuff with him.
Sitting up there just drinking beer calling a game.
I don't think you'd get away with that these days.
But back then, man, he would take his shirt off and take me out to the ball game.
What's the Brewers going to?
announcer who was in major league.
Bob Uker, yeah. Bob Uker.
All right, 859-2802-287.
We've got people on Holtz.
Let's get to them, Matt.
Who we got first?
Casey, go ahead, Casey.
Hey, good morning, fellas.
Happy Tuesday.
Good morning, Casey.
I'm super excited for Tom Hart being on the Bravest broadcast
because Andy got me in the habit of listening to it on the radio,
and I highly suggested it so much fun.
But also, I was at the KS Bar for the game
on Saturday, the baseball game.
And I just want to say everybody really needs to come out
because it is such a fun atmosphere,
and it might have thought louder than I've heard it at basketball
and football retail.
It was really, really cool.
But last thing, my eight-year-olds
has a little bit of question about our new basketball coach.
All right, go ahead.
Was Mark Hope? Hope.
I'm good at basketball.
Great question.
As a good day.
Matter of fact, that is our Don Franklin.
call the day right there. So thank you very much.
Was Mark Pope good at basketball? That
team, that 96 team, was
so good.
You know, Pope was in a rotation. Like, a lot of those
guys didn't even play more than 22, 25
minutes a game, because they were so good.
But when you got big guy like Walter McCarty
and Antoine Walker, you know, he was kind of sharing time with
those guys, but he played a lot when he was here.
Yeah, and he played, like you said, with a ton of talent.
I mean, just about everybody on that team was an NBA
player, it felt like.
Then had a decent little run
in the NBA as well. Was he drafted
by the Pacers?
I can't, I don't want to say.
Play with the Pacers, though, right?
We have UK trivia Thursday night, and that may be a question.
Well, you just thought.
You got to hold it out.
Now you got to throw that out.
Now I got to throw it out.
Yeah.
If you just glossed over that, nobody would have ever known.
Now that you call it attention to it, it's kind of like the Nathan's hot dog getting
contest.
Now that you've called attention to it, now that we know that may be a trivia question.
Yeah, we have UK trivia Thursday night.
I typed all the questions last night, and so maybe I need to.
Scratch that one out.
And put in something else.
Was that right?
I'm not going to say.
I'm not going to say.
I'm not going to say.
I may use it at a different time.
He must be low on questions then.
I was trying to have a Mark Pope question like in every round.
Yeah.
You know, I thought that would be apropos for it.
So, but yeah, that'll be Wednesday night.
859-2802-287.
That's our phone number.
Who we got next, Matt?
Chad.
Go ahead, Chad.
He was drafted by the Pacers.
I was right
from Chinkabin, man
Sorry, we're going to miss you all tonight
It's Singo
Oh, hey Chad
Yeah, you were going to come back
And try to defend your title, your single title
But we're going to move it
We're not going to postpone it
We're just postponing it for another day
I think they talked about doing it next Tuesday
But I'm not sure, don't hold me through that
I got a text about it
So
Well, I will tell you, man
These guys grab T-shirts
They named our takeover
G-Town Smackdown
Well, you bring it on, Chad.
G-Town Smackdown.
You haven't had any Lexington single coming at you yet.
So we'll let you know when it is.
We hope you can make it.
Yes, sir, yes, sir.
Y'all have a good deal.
Thank you, Chad.
Appreciate it.
Appreciate it.
I've got a couple lines open now if you want to call and get on board on the Clark's Pubbit Shop phone number.
Do you remember the story we talked to you guys about the Birmingham Southern baseball team?
Yeah.
The now defunct Birmingham Southern.
Yeah, they closed their doors, right?
Close the school like in mid-May, but the baseball team was.
Still alive in the playoffs, Division III playoffs, got to the Division III World Series, won a couple games, got beat, I think, in the final four, if I'm not mistaken.
Is that right?
I think the final four.
And then after the game, they decided they'd rent a van and have one more road trip home together as a team.
They could have flown, gone their separate ways.
Season's over, school's over.
They decided to come home together.
Well, now, of course, there's going to be a documentary about the Birmingham Southern baseball team.
I can't wait to see how that plays out.
Do we know what platform is going to be on?
Netflix?
I don't know.
I don't know, but I saw they're doing a documentary on that.
So I think, to me, that's a good story.
That's very cool.
Very cool.
Yeah.
And, you know, you ask former athletes what they think about in their playing careers.
It's hardly ever plays.
It's sometimes championships, but it's like the in-between moments, the locker room.
That's right.
The bus rides.
Behind the scenes.
And that's what, and I'm sure that was a special moment for them to take that van ride back.
Ryan, do you remember your very last game ever with Kentucky Wesleyan?
to realize your baseball career was over forever.
How sad was that?
You may not know this story.
Excuse me.
You may have been choked up already just thinking about it.
My last ever collegiate baseball game,
which is really my last competitive event I really was ever in.
I played all nine positions.
You have told me that.
You have told me this.
You have told me this almost every month.
This is a true story.
You may have not heard this.
But here's a story I've told you ever.
I don't know if you've heard the story.
but we had to go to Ashland, Ohio, to play Ashland.
And if Ashland won one of two games, they were going to get into the conference tournament.
We were not eligible for the conference tournament.
But the league office made us drive to Ashland, Ohio, to play Ashland in a doubleheader just in case they had beat us one game.
We had already turned our equipment in.
We had already taken final exams.
We were done.
Our season was over.
School was over.
We rounded up nine guys that were still living around Owensboro or kind of still having.
hanging around and we drove took a van up there to play that of course they win the first game
we only have nine guys so in the second game so the game really didn't matter and it didn't mean
anything coach let me play all nine positions in my last collegiate game i've heard that story
so many times i'll tell it again next week i could have told you that story but you weren't sad
at all though on your last your last game ever even though you did get to play all nine positions yeah
i'd be honest i was kind of ready for it to be over okay yeah you know i've kind of baseballed out
Did you try out for like another league or anything?
No, no.
You just concede it that that was it.
Yeah, you know, I used to play for the Jasper Reds during the summer, kind of a semi-pro team,
but even after my high school career, like, oh, I'm done.
Arms kind of dead.
I'm done playing.
So I don't know, Mara, if you ever heard that story, that might be one you want to talk in it
and tell your children as they get older.
I'll definitely do that.
And then now your highlight is a foul ball during a charity soft.
That was fair.
That was a fair ball.
I hit the home run off Matt.
It was clearly fair.
The referee totally blew the call because,
Carl Towns was out there waving at foul, so he just took Carl's word for it.
Oh, that's what it was.
Yes, absolutely.
That is a unique story, though.
How many guys can say that they played every position in their final baseball game,
probably played every one of them?
You're probably like Kentucky Wesleyan trivia.
Well, we may have that in the trivia contest.
Oh, there goes to your other one.
We didn't hit this, but Billy, this might be a question for you.
I did see Kyle Zie took a new job.
She's going to be an assistant coach at Duke.
Oh, is that right?
Yeah, did you see that?
I have not seen that.
Best of luck to her.
Best of luck to her.
You know, things didn't work out here, but she had that run in the SEC tournament.
She sure did.
She's obviously a talented coach with a lineage of playing under Pat Summitt in the past.
Yeah.
Hopefully she can find some success in Duke.
I guess I won't be rooting for her, though.
We'll go right back to the phone lines.
859-280287.
We come back.
We'll get a sports radio.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the Internet lost its mind.

exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in.
I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise.
Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines.
We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves.

From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls,
we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.

I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff,
like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out of my quarterback on office blue 42.
Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Ms. Parker.

The World Cup is coming.
Ramos sending on the only school.
I'm Tab Ramos.
I'm Tom Boe.
On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Policic.
I'm not worried about Balagan.
I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarter.
or finals are potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've done.
never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted
this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like
Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into
some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing.
Man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,

Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio,
presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
I realize we are way behind.
in live reads oh yeah you know what we are well you pull one up and get ready to do one here as
I tell everybody we're at J. Mattingley 1845 distillery in Frankfurt Kentucky come on out Saturday to
enjoy some history and one outstanding legendary bourbon open 9 to 5 at j. Madeline's 1845 in
Frankfurt and Kyle Macy Rick Robey and Jack Givens will be here Saturday from 9 to 11 for this special
tasting where you can taste this 50 year old bourbon that they've used to make their 78
bourbon line. So it's a great opportunity to meet the guys and to try out this bourbon. So
Shannon, who we got? Hey, the segment sponsored by cornbread hemp. You know, we had prohibition
for alcohol once upon a time, right? Yeah, we did. And now there's a prohibition group out
there trying to reverse the 2018 farm bill that made hemp legal, which means it would be recriminalizing
a plant that we depend on for a better quality of life. But the good news is, there's still
time to act. You can go to cornbreadhemp.com slash KSR. Again, that is cornbreadhemp.com.
com slash KSR, you click on the link, contact your members of Congress, tell them very politely to keep cornbread hemp legal.
That's cornbread hemp.com slash KSR to keep cornbread hemp legal paid for by cornbread hemp.
Good friends, cornbread hemp.
Yes.
I just looked at the weather, Billy, for Omaha.
It is not looking good tonight.
I mean, I'm no Bill Meck or Chris Bailey.
I'm no expert, but it doesn't look good tonight to try to get this game in.
Well, we'll have to see if they make them play two games tomorrow or if they space it out.
That'll be very interesting for the bullpen and their rest.
We were talking during the break, Ryan.
Do you think that your old coaches would ever allow you in the dugout to do what the Kentucky baseball team does?
They've got a little puppet that they have.
They've got their stack in the hats.
There's a Spider-Man taped to the wall.
Would old Ryan Lemons coach allow that?
There ain't a chance in France that my coach would allow any of that.
I mean, we couldn't even use pine tar.
We couldn't use batting gloves.
We were as old school as old school come.
Yeah.
You couldn't use batting clubs.
Nope.
There is no way my college coach would allow that.
As a matter of fact, I didn't know, like, the first time I went to, you know, the first meeting with the team, I didn't know if I'd sign up for baseball or the Army.
I mean, it was like, yes, sir, no, sir.
You say the wrong thing.
You're taking it off.
You're running laps.
I'm going, my good.
Oh, it was no nonsense.
There is no chance we would have hand puppets or any kind of thing like that in the Bellarmine baseball dugout.
Get weird.
Yeah.
Get weird.
It's just different.
I mean, look, it's fun for fans.
working for them. I'm not, you know,
poo-poo-in-it-it-it-it-tall. Have you ever seen the bubblegum?
Oh, yeah, the bubblegum guy.
Now, what's the story behind the firefighter helmet that the Camel
Brian's got? Okay, so Camel Brian is known as the fireman because he comes out of the
bullpen and puts out fires. Okay. And when Nick Mingeon pleaded to the city of
Omaha to adopt Kentucky as a team to root for, the local firehouse heard that in
Omaha and decided to send them a fireman's hat with the UK logo on it, with their local union
logo on it. I heard Darren Hendrick tell this story last night, and I think Tyler Thompson has a
good article about it on Kentucky Sports Radio.com. So the city of Omaha has taken in the Kentucky
Wildcats, and so they liked his nickname, and so now they're supporting the cats. And I saw,
Mario, they were wearing it in the dugout. The fireman helmet was in the dugout last night.
Yeah, yeah, man, very entertaining. I just, I can't wait until the,
The camera always pans to the dugout.
I love to see what they're doing with their answers.
And Nick Lopez has aviators on and his blue mustache.
His mustache.
I mean, it looks like a Where's Waldo cartoon or something with him.
But it's catching on, Shannon.
Then guys out, UK fans in the stands have their mustache painted blue.
That's right, yeah.
And I think that, you know, Coach Mignione said for the casual baseball fan,
there's plenty of room on the Kentucky baseball bandwagon.
And I think that a lot of those fans have sort of adopted Kentucky baseball
as their team that they're pulling for.
Pink hats.
Pink hats.
Shannon tried to get me to dye my mustache, blue.
That's right.
See, I almost forgot about that.
I thought that would be good for, you know,
just a little publicity for the pre-show if we had Billy.
Yeah, exactly.
You know, Mario could bring in and do some, you know, documentary-style filming of the mustache.
A little blue mustache.
Yeah, I didn't want to draw too much attention to this Caterpillar right here,
but I am enjoying the bad mustache as being in style with all the baseball players
because half of the guys on that team have one.
I mean, the guy's painted my head one time, my bald spot,
so why not paint your mustache for this baseball baseball?
Yeah, come on, man.
We have to do it.
We have to do it.
If Ryan can paint that cue ball back there black and have it sweat off his head running down his neck,
the least you could do is make your mustache blue.
The stories of Ryan leaning his head up against the wall in the restaurant.
It was leaking down the wall.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I left little stains everywhere I went when I've touched my head.
I think it's still in Matt's car,
touched the top of his car when I got it.
It was like 90 degrees that day.
And immediately after we finished the show,
yeah, first of all, we were riding in the car
and we hit a bump in Ryan's head, of course,
hits the top, hits the roof of the car,
and there's a big black spot from his spray paint
from his bald spot there.
And then we go out and we're walking down the sidewalk
and it's hot and everybody's sweating.
And you see, like, the pain of running down his neck
as we're going into the restaurant.
And he was a great sport about it.
He kept it on.
And then later on that night, he's leaning up against the wall as we're having dinner.
And he leaves a big black spot on the wall right there from his head.
It was like a pizza place or something, wasn't it?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Corey Price has found the article where I played all nine positions.
Of course he has.
There's an article about it.
Yeah.
How does he do it?
Okay, this will be our Kentucky branded tweet of the day.
By the way, Kentucky branded, all your officially licensed UK baseball shirts, hats,
go to Kentuckybranded.com.
You can order it or go to the stores.
They've got it there.
He says, Ryan, I was a student in 1978 and was a big fan of that team.
Was at the airport when they flew back from St. Louis that night after the championship.
That team was royalty in Lexington.
And I think that was like one of the first times, if I remember right,
people flock to the airport to welcome that team back from St. Louis that night
after they won the title.
It's hard to explain how much that team was loved and adored,
and to see those three guys all together.
It just kind of made me warm and fuzzy this morning.
Yeah, I'm glad that we did it all together,
where those guys can kind of play off each other and tell stories.
And, you know, for them to get that title, Joe B. at the helm,
I'm sure it did mean a lot to this community when that happened.
You were, when were you born?
I was born in the 80s.
So you were.
So I was not alive for that.
Well, that does make me feel really old.
But, hey, that was your generation of guys, right?
I mean, those guys were rock stars, and to an extent, they still are.
Still are.
Still are rock stars, no doubt.
859-2802-287.
You want to call and get aboard here?
Ryan, Shannon, Billy, and Mario.
We'll take a couple calls here on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line.
There were a couple other things I want to just get you guys' opinion on.
The Indiana High School Athletic Association has adopted a shot clock for high school basketball.
Good, bad.
Does Kentucky need to do it?
I mean, we don't understand why we don't.
I mean, we do at every other level except for Little League, right?
So at some point, you're going to transition into having a shot clock.
So, you know, your aspirations, I would think as a high school.
school player would be to get to the next level and at the next level they're going to have a
shot clock so why not start that in high school is this the beginning of a trend you see billy
well it's it's already in place in so many other states already so i feel like the more that we can
get on board with the same system whether it be shot clock or no shot clock is is preferred to me i
just you know there's a lot of schools that can't afford something like a shot clock that's a good
we also have to have another person go up there and and manage that you know sometimes at some schools it's
It's hard to even get people to keep score.
Ryan, you remember this.
You're an old man.
Tell me what the four-corner offense was like watching as a fan.
How exciting was the four-corner offense?
What is that?
Explain to Mario what the four-corner offense is.
If teams got a lead, they would spread the ball out and put, like, one guy in each corner.
No shot clock, by the way.
Just hold the ball.
That's why we need a shot.
Yeah.
So, you know, it would run like a little weave where you dribble in,
and then the guy would take these plays.
They would hold the ball for ten minutes, and the game would be over.
And was it, Dean Smith?
Yes, and that's the reason why we have a shot clock.
That's the reason why.
Yeah.
So, you know, there are those games in history where the final score was 23 to 19 or something,
whether you should have needed a clock.
But do you think a shot clock?
You played high school basketball?
Do you think you would have a shot clock when you played in Florida?
No, no shot clock, but definitely needs a shot clock.
I couldn't stand when teams would hold the ball.
Yeah.
It's terrible.
Well, it's the way the maybe the less talented teams or the smaller teams could maybe challenge the big boys.
Yeah, you get up two to know.
nothing and never give him the ball back.
And then you just hold the ball the whole time.
So, I, it's, I mean, we've got the, we've got a pitch count clock in baseball.
You know, it's, it's coming.
I mean, whether we like it or not, the fact, Indiana adopted, probably Kentucky's not too far behind.
I'm surprised it's not already a thing.
So it's, it's well overdue.
The Texas joins the SEC this year.
Texas and Oklahoma joining this year, joining the SEC.
And I saw already tickets for the Texas, Texas A&M.
football game, the cheap tickets.
You want to take a guess?
Take a guess with the cheap tickets
for Texas versus Texas A&M
football game this year.
$80 a piece.
I'm going $800.
$800 for the cheap ones?
Yes.
Like the nosebleet, all the way up to the top.
We're saying $800 for those?
I'm saying probably the good seats.
Oh, the good seats?
Yeah, that's a completely different story.
The good seats, I could see
a couple of girls.
grand.
$2,000, $2,000, Bob.
That's my bid.
A grand.
I'll probably say $800 to a grand.
$105,000.
No.
For one ticket?
Yes.
$105,000?
Yes.
$105,000.
Would you ever pay that anything
close to that to go watch a college football game?
If I had a billion dollars, I still wouldn't spend that kind of money.
Not worth it.
No way.
Would you spend it for anything?
Is there any event you would spend $100,000 to go see?
Shannon probably not
I'm frugal
Experiences
Yeah
That's true
But I can also experience
At home on my couch
Drinking my own beer
Well these are like these big oil tycoons
I guess
That have way too much money
They want to be at this game
When they renew the rivalry
Texas Texas Agenium
$105,000
Just trying to break that down
Like the game is what
Three hours
Maybe two and a half
Something like that
Just trying to break it down
By the minute
What's the math on that?
You talk about an experience.
That's a very expensive experience.
I couldn't believe it when I saw that,
but apparently there are tickets for sale for that game for $105,000.
Yeah, they better put me in shoulder pads and a helmet for that matter.
Yeah, I better be on the sideline calling plays for that one.
Maybe, you know, they've been waiting for this game for a while right now.
It's in the SEC, and that's one of the new rivalries that are renewed.
So I'm excited for Texas and Oklahoma.
And, you know, Kentucky traveling to Texas this year,
I'm sure that'll be a fun ticket for a lot of NBBA.
Does Texas and Oklahoma feel like an SEC team?
Well, you guys were talking about this yesterday with Myron about what is the South and identifying it.
And I feel like if we all went to war right now, I think Texas and Oklahoma would be included in the South.
The South?
It's tough for me right now to consider them part of the South when they were.
What do you consider Texas, then?
Not the South.
I mean, geographically, they are South.
Mexico is right below them on the map.
So I think you've got to call Texas.
Texas South. They are kind of their own thing, as Myron was pointing out.
But I think there's still the South. Oklahoma, I struggle with calling the South.
I agree. Yeah. I struggle even with Missouri, calling them as part of the South.
Yeah. But, you know, the way the conferences are expanding now.
Do you call Virginia the South? No.
Me and Billy was talking about it. I don't either.
I think you might, to some, I think it was the capital of the Confederacy.
And, you know, it could be lumped into that. But that is kind of borderline.
Yeah. But in today's world, I don't consider.
consider Virginia part of the south, but yet they technically probably really are.
I feel like Kentucky's kind of borderline, but as I was pointing out, there's also the factor of the lifestyle that you live.
And I feel like this is not maybe on a map southern, but, you know, it's the culture.
It's the culture as the lifestyle. I feel like it's very southern.
Just be glad you're not in the Big Ten where you've got USC traveling to Rutgers.
That's crazy.
Tuesday night, you know, lacrosse game.
That is going to be really interesting to watch how much money these non-revenue sports lose competing in that conference.
Because when you go out west, you're going to have to play.
two or three schools out there. You can't afford
to go back and forward two or three times throughout the season.
Yeah, they're going to have to think of some scheduling tricks.
All right, we got one more break and one more set.
We got another read for us. Of course we do.
You know, KSR is always brought

There'll be one tomorrow.
Okay.
Yeah.
We'll give you our breakdown on that.
Did you see, I don't if you guys are following the Euro Cup, which I am not, but Matt went to the Slovakia versus Belgium game yesterday and saw a monumental upset.
Biggest upset in the history of the tournament if you go by FIFA rankings.
And Matt just happened.
And Matt was there.
That's amazing.
It was one to nothing, right?
Slovakia to win.
That's right.
I had to be an awesome environment for him to be there.
But, yeah, he was there for that event yesterday.
I'm sure it was.
They take soccer very seriously in other countries.
Okay, here we go.
We don't have darts.
We've got cricket.
Oh, cricket.
The United States of America taking on South Africa.
I think we should bet on that.
I'm taking USA all the way, baby.
Well, they're plus 425, so they are a big underdog.
A big underdog.
Today's the day.
I don't know how American cricket is, but apparently not very good versus South Africa.
Well, they beat Pakistan, I think, or something like that.
it was considered the biggest upset in cricket recently.
So.
United States did?
Well, here we go.
I'm riding the United States way.
Cricket Sports Radio.
We'll be right back.
We've got one more segment.
We'll take your calls.
859-280-2287.
Ryan, Shannon, Billy, Mario, here on Kentucky Sports Radio.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending.
Opinions are flying.
And nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo.
Every episode, we're cutting through the noise.
breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines.
We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions,
the stuff nobody gets to hear.
The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real.
From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down,
give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them.

up in the chase, that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still
chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes
about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different
intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good
person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about

What's up, guys?
This is Clivert Taylor the 4th.
And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, Wreck, my mama want you to weigh better.
What?
Hey, Ms. Parker.
Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows.
Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash will get that thing.
That man, hell get to fly.
He running up the court, licking his fingers
why he got the ball.
Like, after you go through a training camp
with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Oh, yeah.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,

American soccer is about to explode.
The World Cup is coming.
Ramel sending on to Ernie Stewart for Chip.
I'm Tad Ramos.
I'm Tom Boe.
On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Policic.
I'm not worried about balligan.
I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinal.
or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.
Experience it all with us.

All right, welcome back final segment, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Of course, the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is a resigning partner for our summer business tour.
Today we are at Jay Mattingley's 1845 Distillery in Frankfurt.
Harry Richard.
That's correct.
With a T.
Richard.
Harry Richard here, the president, joining us to get over the big tasting event Saturday.
It's a great opportunity for people to come out and meet the guys, Rick Roby, Jack Givens, Kyle Macy, but also try this 50-year-old bourbon.
Absolutely, absolutely.
So I believe we probably have the oldest whiskey on the bourbon trail right now.
So you can come out and try that stuff, come hang out with us, and then, you know, additionally, we've got a bunch of other awesome bottles, and you can do blending experiences and come hang out.
It'll be a lot of fun.
So it's 9 to 11 Saturday morning that people are already calling trying to get the information.
Just come on out.
Walk-ins just come in.
You can get a bottle and get to meet the guys and get to try it.
Absolutely.
So you can go on the website if you want and make a reservation or whatnot, but absolutely.
Feel free to come out, walk in, and we'd be more than happy to accommodate everybody that comes.

Stockton Mortgage.
Yes.
All right, we'll do that one at the end of the show.
How about good if those guys have been great?
How good have they been to work with?
Kyle and Rick.
They've been incredible.
I mean, just three of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
humble. It really has been an honor to work with them.
And, yeah, they've been awesome. And the bourbon's good.
The bourbon's very good. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
You're waiting 50 years to drink this.
Sitting in a barrel for 50 years by family and own. That's kind of a crazy story.
Now, how do you decide, like, okay, this bourbon is one we're going to hang on to and make it the
bourbon that sits there for 50 years? You know, that's interesting.
I mean, usually six to eight years in, you kind of know you pull it, it's ready to go.
but particularly like honey barrels, something that's really, really good is something you want to put off to the side.
And, you know, you want to do quality, you know, assurance on this stuff every six to 12 months.
You've got to sample it.
Make sure it's still tasting good, right?
What a horrible job.
I know, somebody's got to do it, right?
You know, but yeah, I mean, you just, you know, you revisit it every six to 12 months and it just keeps going.
And if it can get better, you know, you're looking for certain markers and certain quality assurance things and you just let it go.
Well, come on out here Saturday morning, 9 to 11, Jay Mattingley's.
1845 distillery in Frankfurt on 20 Riley Road, so the guys will be here and you can taste the bourbon as well.
You know, Stockton Mortgage, a great friend of people that are looking to buy a house or refinance or cash out refinance.
Stockton Mortgage can help you all along the way.
They're easy to work with.
You don't want to go on those online guys, Shannon.
You talk to a different guy every time you call in.
Stockton Mortgage, you've got the same loan officer throughout the entire process.
Makes it easy.
Go to Stockton.com to apply.
There's a button right there that says get started.

If not, it could be a late night.
And then tomorrow, Jasper Johnson's going to join us.
I'm excited about Jasper Johnson coming for KSR tomorrow at the restaurant.
Yep, so people can come out and meet him, right?
If you haven't had the chance to meet him, maybe get some pictures.
And you need to research Taylor County.
Taylor County.
Okay, I got you.
Be nice to Taylor County tomorrow.
I will be.
All right.
Thanks to everybody here at Jay Mattingley's.
We've had a great show.
We've had a great turnout today.
Come on out Saturday and see the guys and try that 50-year-old bourbon for Ryan, for Billy, for Shannon, for Mario.
We'll be back tomorrow at KS Bar and Grill.
Bye-bye.
