This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Myron Metcalfe back in the building. Well, I'm not in the building. I'm remote, but glad to be back on another edition of Mary Mondays
Starting point is 00:03:23 on Kentucky Sports Radio. Fill it in for Matt Jones. I know it's a lot to catch up on. over the past week. I believe Drew's coming back from vacation. I was on vacation. Is everyone there? We're back.
Starting point is 00:03:37 We're back. We're all here, brother. Happy to be. I hope you've got big vacation stories. Yeah, I love it. That's right. Yeah, great stuff, man. I mean, it was fun to get away.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Drew, I'm sure it was good for you to get away too, huh? Absolutely. Had a blast. The best part is just turning off the phone and the computer. I mean, I left that thing in the room, didn't even think about it all week. So I had to play a little catch up this morning, catching up on a week of news, but it was a refreshing trip away. Had a good time.
Starting point is 00:04:05 You know what I did, man? A buddy of mine had recommended this. I deleted all of my social media apps. So like I went beyond just not checking my phone. I just deleted everything. And I deleted all my email apps. So I had no clue what happened in the world until I got back. And it just felt weird at first a little bit.
Starting point is 00:04:28 You know, I got to admit. But then once, you know, I got rolling, it was like, man, this feels good to not have to care about, you know, what, you know, funky man 2020 on Twitter has to say about it. You know what I mean? Like it's just, it was cool. It was cool to get away. Where'd you go? South Florida did a little North Miami-ish, popped in Fort Lauderdale, popped in Hollywood. Just checking out down there.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Got a little sunburn to prove it, rocking some aloe on my nose this morning that Mario's already taking pictures of. But had a good time in Florida. I see you over here on the Zoom here, Mark. Yeah, yeah. Good to be here. Yeah, y'all get that sunburn, man. That's tough, man. That hurts, is what I hear.
Starting point is 00:05:04 That hurts. What's that left? Well, I was already pretty pale on my way down there, and I went to South Florida where it's 90 something, and this just, this game wasn't equipped. I was wearing, I was applying 50 every hour, and it still wasn't protecting me. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:05:18 You got back. I heard you yapping on the radio yesterday morning, so this is not even your first day back. You were working yesterday. Yeah, I got back to work right away. I went to knowledge. New Orleans. Notlands.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Had a great time, man. They had a great time. They got great food, great music. Like, it was just a cool place. But the heat was, it was a lot. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:05:41 Like, that humidity down, that you probably felt it drew in South Florida. Like, that humidity is different. You know what I mean? That's one of those places
Starting point is 00:05:48 where like the sun follows you wherever you go. Like, it's like right on your shoulder, making sure you know how hot it is. And then it was so hard to breathe. That's my only thing. It was like during the day, you couldn't really be outside and enjoy it because it was a little too much. But at night, great.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Great music, great vibe, great everything. I had a blast, man. It was really good to get away and get refreshed. I feel energized. It was wonderful, man. New Orleans isn't always refreshing. New Orleans isn't always the most refreshing place. Did you need a couple days to bounce back or were you well behaved down there?
Starting point is 00:06:25 Yeah, I was behaved, you know. I was okay. You know, I got it so far. Definitely. You know, I mean, the thing about there is you forget what time it is. So, like, you would look at your watch and you'd be like, okay, it's 8 o'clock. I'm getting ready to go to this show. Cool.
Starting point is 00:06:40 And then next to you know, it's like 2 a.m. You don't know how it happened. You know what I mean? Because it's like a different time is different down there. But the food, the food was so good it made me upset. And here's why it made me upset. First off, I had these cheese grits down there. I was like in a different world with these grits.
Starting point is 00:06:59 I'm like, how did you all create this? I haven't been to church in a while. I got to admit that. But I was about to go back to me, I was going to say, you know what, this is supernatural. These grits were not cooked by a human being. This is something on a whole different level, man. And it also made me realize you all aren't sharing all your recipes from the South. And it made me upset.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Like, why aren't you all telling us how to cook like you all cook? And why aren't you all like giving us some things and some things. tips, you know, up here in the Midwest. You all don't think we can cook, I feel like. I feel like that's what it is. Is that what you won't think? We don't want to give away everything. We're very proud of our grits.
Starting point is 00:07:32 A couple weeks ago, we addressed our Waffle House gatekeeping. You can't have that either. You know, we just got to keep some things to ourselves that you'll come visit. If we give everything, you'll just, you'll never be here to say how to all of us. But that felt wrong to me. I'm like, just give me a little something. I had some jambalaya. Oh, my good.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Some red beans and rice. And it made me wonder, like, is there a southern dish? because I'm going to Mississippi next weekend for my family reunion in Mississippi. I told you all last weekend, I think about the Hoos and my uncles and the Blues. It's going to get crazy down there. By 9.30 on Friday,
Starting point is 00:08:04 it's going to be a different kind of family reunion. That's all I'm saying, right? So I'm trying to figure out if I can bring something that would make it me feel, make them feel like, okay, this dude knows what he's doing. He knows how to cook. Like, I wonder if someone has a suggestion on a simple southern dish that I can bring.
Starting point is 00:08:22 So I can got to fit it. Because you know what's interesting, fellas, whenever we go to Mississippi, and I've been going to Mississippi since I was a kid, they never asked us to bring food. Isn't that interesting? They're always like bring chips in soda, in dip, in dessert. Why don't they ask us to cook? Do you think they think that we can't cook? Is that what it is?
Starting point is 00:08:40 You think that's what it is? If they're assigning you the two liters and the store bought side items? Yes. Yeah. You think that's their way of telling us they don't think we can cook? Yeah, don't embarrass yourself and bring something down here that we're not going to eat. we got the food under control. You bring it some chips and some soda pop. It might not be that you can't cook.
Starting point is 00:08:58 It's just they have their things that they, everybody knows like I've got my thing I bring every year. It's your specialty. Maybe they just, they don't want you messing up the system. Well, can I change it up? I mean, can I bring, is there something I could bring? What can you bring from Minneapolis? What can you bring from Minnesota?
Starting point is 00:09:14 Now, here's what I'm saying. I'm not, listen, maybe I can bring it and freeze it or something. I don't know. Maybe I'll bring the ingredients. But like, I just. want to do something, I want to surprise them, basically. They're not asking us to bring food. Maybe they don't
Starting point is 00:09:28 think we can cook. I want to surprise them and just bring something. So what's the number? What's the dial in? What's the calling number? 859-280 2287. Parks Puppetchop Chopinchop phone number, 859-280 2287. KSR community, is there a southern dish
Starting point is 00:09:44 that I can whip up that would impress my southern relatives? I'd like to know because, again, why do you always ask us to bring chips. I mean, anybody can bring chips. Anybody can bring pop. I just feel like they're sending us a message. And this is what they'll do too, fellas. They will cook every meal from scratch. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, they just go all out at these reunions. Never once did they say, hey, why don't you bring a dish? I feel like that. I didn't think about that. Maybe they don't think we can cook. And this is their way
Starting point is 00:10:14 of telling us. And they're just not willing, they don't want to hurt our feelings. You think that's what it is we've come from so far? They don't want to hurt our feelings. Is that what it is? Or it's just that southern hospitality. They don't want you to have to prepare something, travel with it. You're already making a bigger sacrifice coming from Minnesota. They're just being hospitable southerners. That's all it is. Look at it that way.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Yeah, I mean, but they don't even ask us to do anything, though. I feel like there's something I could do beyond bring chips, and I don't know. Mac and Cheese. But if you got any suggestions, yeah, if you got a Southern mac and cheese recipe that you think I can whip up, now let me tell you about my cooking skills, fellas. I'm not, okay, if there's a scale, of like one to ten. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:54 I bet I'm a four and a half. You know what I mean? Like I can make some good burgers. Spaghetti. I could do spaghetti real well. But like once you get to the advanced stuff, I'm not really, that's not really for me.
Starting point is 00:11:08 You know what I mean? So it's got to be a simple dish. But yeah, help me out. If there's something I can bring to my family reunion that you feel like I could whip up and surprise everybody and they go, wow, the Midwest cousins can actually cook let me know because I think that would be
Starting point is 00:11:24 that would be impressive. College World Series championships tonight, right? Tennessee. Yes. Deciding game tonight. Yep. Man, they were, those games are great. And now you get the decisive game three. That's going to be fun.
Starting point is 00:11:39 And it says a lot about the SEC. I realized the SEC was a powerhouse in football, obviously basketball and what they'd been able to do. But like baseball and softball too. but now you get Oklahoma and Texas. Will anybody else be able to compete? I mean, with the SEC in sports, once you expand again? Like, this seems unfair.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Yeah, you know, you think of college football being SEC dominated, but really it's baseball where SEC just totally is dominated over there in recent years. You look at all the past, you know, World Series champions. And tonight you got two SEC teams battling out. You know, the dude that pitched for Texas A&M on Saturday is the dude to beat Kentucky the other day. So, you know, we saw this great pitcher. Of course, we had to face them in our second round game. But nobody in this state, Miron, nobody should be rooting for Tennessee tonight.
Starting point is 00:12:29 Everybody's rooting for Texas A&M. Really? We're haters. We're haters, Maureen. I told you all, though, about the Reed Shepard thing I got, you know, you all were mad at me about. I didn't understand the scale of the schools you all dislike. Like, I didn't know Duke was that high. I really didn't, legitimately.
Starting point is 00:12:48 I know Lovell is up there. level. And then two is two Tennessee? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. No, not even close. What is it about them, no. It's just a good rivalry.
Starting point is 00:13:02 I mean, they're right there on the border. We have to interact with them a lot. I mean, for football there for a long time, we didn't have much to say, and they loved to rub that in. So we had to, on the basketball side, talk that trash. We just really want them to lose it everything. And I think it's the same way coming back on our end.
Starting point is 00:13:18 I don't think there's anything wrong with that. So tonight, even though I think Texas A&M, they're a little weird with some of that cult type stuff they do with the yells and the practice. Like Ron said, I think we have to be Aggies. I just can't, I don't want the Vols to win anything, especially in national championship. Wow. It's that deep. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:39 So is it, I mean, is it like parallel with Lovell or is it like a step below it? Like what, like how would you describe? Okay, here's the thing. Lovo and Tennessee. I giggle every time he says it. It's 105 degrees outside. You got some fresh bottle water you're driving by. They're both begging for a glass of water.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Who's getting the water first? I drink it and I spit it out in front of both of them. Oh, my goodness. It's that level. Yes, it is that. You wouldn't even give them what? No, nothing. Nothing.
Starting point is 00:14:16 I certainly don't want to watch them win a national championship. No, that's the thing. This is for a national championship. If you're like the area of South Eastern Kentucky where Matt's from, you hate Tennessee like none other. Matt's county's on the border. Matt, yeah, they borders Tennessee. He used to get Knoxville TV stations. So that hatred is deep for those folks down there.
Starting point is 00:14:37 So like in terms of modern time, I don't know enough about, you know, the 70s or 80s, but in terms of modern times, Kentucky's winning championships and basketball when they're not. You know what I mean? Kentucky was the dominant force in the 90s. So was it more of the Peyton Manning T. Martin kind of run area? Like, was that, did that just make it even worse in terms of the Tennessee hatred? Or what did it for you? It was them and 30-something other teams that they had that beat us.
Starting point is 00:15:06 I mean, every Saturday for three decades, or not every Saturday, one Saturday for three decades, we just had to take that Tennessee loss. Finally broke that streak a little while ago, but that's still, that's a big reason that the VAL's hatred is so strong. just Kentucky could not beat them in football for several years. So who would you rather be in football? Tennessee or level? Right now, right now, if we're talking this second, a present day, Kentucky's won so many a row on Louisville.
Starting point is 00:15:37 We're all right in that robbery. I would pick Tennessee because we still got some climbing to do in that one. But the hatred is equal for me. Yeah, it's at Tennessee this year. If you can win down there in Knoxville, that would be pretty good, pretty big. I think I would pick that too. I think I went over Tennessee football this year. I want their debate team to lose.
Starting point is 00:15:53 I mean, everything they had, I want them to lose. It's that bad. Do they have a rowing team? I want their rowing boats to sink before the competition. Is that serious? Wow. So, but it feels like, okay, Tennessee, there's like real animosity, right, that's developed over the years. Where does Duke rank a month?
Starting point is 00:16:12 Like, where does, I mean, that's a shot, right? The late in a shot, I get it. Like, where do they fall in terms of how bad you want to beat them? them and everything. Duke is definitely just basketball only. That could care less about the rest of their sport. It's basketball only. But if I had to rank them,
Starting point is 00:16:30 I might put, in basketball, we're talking just basketball. Yeah. Louisville 1, Duke 2, Tennessee 3. Louisville Duke, wow. What do you think, Durr? I didn't realize. I can't disagree. I'm telling you, I didn't know. I didn't know. When I tweeted anything about reach up,
Starting point is 00:16:46 I honestly had no idea. Like, this was This is a triggering moment for you all. I didn't realize like it was to that. It was to that degree. The women in Tennessee chew tobacco. You can't be happy with anybody does that. Myron, I don't want you to think Kentucky fans were these bitter people that just hate everything. I mean, we, I like to think that we're a hospital group.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Hospital group. When the supers and the regionals were just here, the opposing teams thanked us that we were so nice. We take pride in that. But Louisville, Tennessee and Duke, we don't have that in us. We can't be nice to them. It's the Leitner shot for Duke, and it's just years of going head-to-head with Louisville and Tennessee. We can't speak for the whole fan base, but I know in my heart there's no love for any of those three whatsoever. So, I mean, I'm going to try to put this in family reunion terms.
Starting point is 00:17:31 So is Tennessee like the uncle you don't talk to anymore? Like, is it like that, like you go to the family reunion, you don't even acknowledge them, or is there a fight on site? Like, what level is it? You know, is it more like you just, you don't even want to cross their path at the family reunion? or, okay, that's Uncle Leroy, I got to fight him about something to happen in 1993. What level is it? Well, I can relate to this because my dad is a Tennessee fan,
Starting point is 00:17:54 so I have to do family interactions with a Tennessee fan. Yes, I would say if I'm at a cookout and a Tennessee fan shows up, we're not fighting. We're not those people. But they're certainly not getting a cup for the hooch. They're not getting whatever two leaders. They don't have hooch access? Oh, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:18:10 They need to buy a hooch access. Oh, that's going to start a fight at mine. If I bought the chips and the teets, the two leaders like you, they're not touching them. They can go stand in the corner. Somebody's getting drop kicked. Absolutely. That's just where I am. But, you know, Ryan's different.
Starting point is 00:18:22 Ryan, what about you? What do you? The Tennessee fan at my family reunion better just keep his yapper shut because the one thing they say, they're just begging for a fight. They're begging for something to happen to go down. That's why I think about Tennessee, they're like, they're poking you. They're going to come up and they're going to poke you, and they better
Starting point is 00:18:38 be ready. So, I mean, so if they look at you the wrong way at the family, it might start something. Like it might bring up some old wow, it's that, it's that real. I mean, if Drew's taking hooch access, I mean, that would, that's big. That's going to be a Royal Rumble at my family reunion.
Starting point is 00:18:55 I mean, that's going to start some stuff. So now, Louisville, where, where today? Like, what at the family reunion? Who are that, like, how you talking to them? Are you just, is it a fight right away? Is it you got to be 100 feet away from them? What, what, what, how would you describe that? It's about the same, but they're not getting the hooch for different reasons.
Starting point is 00:19:10 They just can't behave with alcohol. So they're, they're getting, they're not getting hooch. A, because I don't want to share, and B, we just can't have drunk Louisville fans running around at an event like a family reunion. So that one's a double-edged on them skipping the hooch. Wow. My first ever Final Four, 2012, which was in New Orleans, I'm new to ESPN, and I go across streets this little convenience store, I walk in, and this Louisville fan and Kentucky fan
Starting point is 00:19:38 are getting ready to fight at the register. Kid you not. First time I had ever went to a Final Four, they're yelling about that. the game and they're ready to fight and that's when I realized how serious. It's real. That is. It's real. I think we got to take a break.
Starting point is 00:19:50 We'll be back with more after this. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. And nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Every episode we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. Starting point is 00:20:59 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Starting point is 00:21:21 Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose
Starting point is 00:21:36 on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, our heart radio app, Search, learn the hard way, and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey.
Starting point is 00:22:06 I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies, I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?
Starting point is 00:22:31 Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the Aihar Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them
Starting point is 00:22:59 and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like. you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
Starting point is 00:23:17 An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world, like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning.
Starting point is 00:23:40 It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:24:10 within probably 10 days I'd put on 10 pounds I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth listen to Superhuman on the IHeart radio app Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts
Starting point is 00:24:22 I'm telling you man I'm telling you Drew's talking about denying hooch access I'm just thinking about what would happen at my film reunion that would be that would start a
Starting point is 00:24:38 I mean you don't even need the hoochers startup you know an altercation I'm going to what everybody behaves, but I do want to bring some dish, maybe surprise, you know, surprise them a little bit. Have y'all heard from Matt? He called me one time,
Starting point is 00:24:56 but I did try to keep up with him on his Instagram posts with all these pictures. He's posting a lot of pictures on his Instagram where he's trip. Yeah, a lot of them. Where's he last spotted? He didn't follow him on Instagram. Where was he at?
Starting point is 00:25:09 He was in a town. He was in a town. I'll tell you right where that was. He's been doing a lot of the Euro, the soccer. Yeah, I mean, that looks crazy, though. That looks fun. Like, that looks like a bucket list kind of thing. You know, I've always wanted to go to the World Cup.
Starting point is 00:25:26 I feel like soccer at that level is a pretty unique experience from everybody I know who's been a part of that. You know. He spent a lot of time in Germany, but now he's in Italy. Parma, Italy was the last picture he posted. So after our show, I mean, he's obviously on the show that we do for ESPN. I looked at my phone and it said, FaceTime with Matt Jones that I missed. So then eventually I called him back. And I guess he was at some pub with some fan from England who was a Minnesota Vikings fan.
Starting point is 00:26:05 Obviously, I'm in Minnesota who love Kirk Cousins. And he basically, this guy, I guess, was like obsessed with Kurt Cousins. and like stayed up to watch the Netflix quarterback show when it was released. Like he's like, die hard. And then Matt knows that I feel, how I feel about Kirk Couss.
Starting point is 00:26:23 You know that thing about like, if you could have a dinner party with anybody dead or alive, like who'd be on that list, you know what I mean? Yeah. I'm at the level like if Kirk Cousins is at the dinner party, I'm just not having dinner. I just have snacks by myself.
Starting point is 00:26:37 Like I just, you know what I mean? Just a lot there with Kurt Cousins. Just not. a huge fan so I guess he wanted us to he was trying to set up a fight I think so I felt like Matt was trying to get me involved
Starting point is 00:26:50 on like an international altercation or something like I'm going to argue with this English fan and I think he would have been amused by that but I missed the FaceTime call but it sounds like he's really yeah having a good time over there and enjoying himself so that's good he called me to tell me that he had run into
Starting point is 00:27:09 a bunch of people going to the five finger death punch concert and the bass player for five finger death punches from here in lexington went to lafayette high school chris kale so he's listened he's been on our show so he he hooked up with chris in frankfort germany at this five finger death punch concert so i didn't have that on my bingo card stuff he was going to be doing overseas that's that's amazing like how small is the world man with stuff like that can happen so randomly that's yeah he's been running into you like Kentucky fans and KSR fans all throughout his trip.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Well, you all are everywhere. I mean, I always tell people that. Like, you all, when you all go to a place, you're not just at the game. I think that's what people who may not realize if they don't go to some of these events. It's not just the game. You all are at the bars, the restaurants,
Starting point is 00:27:59 the amusement parks if they have them. Like, you all are everywhere. You know what I mean? And that's sort of the difference. So I'm not surprised that he's running into UK fans. But it sounds like he's having a good time. over there in Europe overseas. So good for him.
Starting point is 00:28:14 But I miss his FaceTime call, but I think he was trying to set up a fight. Like I think he wanted that dude to be like, I love Kirk Cousins. And I'd be like, what? That's goofy. You know what I mean? And we would have just been,
Starting point is 00:28:25 you know, I would have beef with some dude from England that I've never met my life. And I think that would have got a good laugh out of that. You know what I mean? Yeah, we wondered how long it would take him to start calling us and stuff.
Starting point is 00:28:35 Because he said, like when I said to start the show, he's not going to look at his phone, going to stay out of touch, needs this break. but he's FaceTime and you. He's calling Ryan. I've gotten a couple texts. I think he's missing us already.
Starting point is 00:28:45 It's the beginning of week five, and I think he's already missing home. Oh, he misses it. Yeah, he misses it. He definitely, because at the end, you know, Matt's kind of subtle. At the end, though, he was like,
Starting point is 00:28:54 yeah, man, you don't miss doing the show with you. I'm like, I know, I know you miss me. I'm the kind of guy you miss. I'm just saying, you don't maybe appreciate it in the moment, but once you get away, you know, then it's like, wait a minute, I'm thinking about that guy a little bit. So I'm glad he's having a good time.
Starting point is 00:29:09 I'm I definitely miss them too. I think he staged that phone call. There wasn't even a Vikings fan. He just wanted a reason to call you. He had a random guy. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. What if he set it up?
Starting point is 00:29:19 Like what if he went to this English pub or wherever he was? And like he tries to get some guy to believe that Kirk Cousins is the greatest quarterback in the world and gets him all revved up about it. And then he calls me because he wants me to go at this guy. I think I think he just wanted to feel like he was on the show for a little bit. You know what I mean? That's what it was. But apparently this guy stayed up for the Netflix quarterback show. What is going on in your life, man, that you're staying up to watch Kurt Cousins?
Starting point is 00:29:51 You know what I mean? Like, I'd rather stay up and watch MASH reruns than stay up to watch Kurt Cousins on Netflix or whatever it is. But I'm glad he's having a good time. On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness. Professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going from the WNBA standout
Starting point is 00:33:14 Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke. The ability to show a gold medal, to someone and have their face light up and smile. That means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Starting point is 00:33:46 Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Starting point is 00:34:10 It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. Starting point is 00:34:31 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. This tweet just came in. We're going to talk about the NBA drive. I want to get to the calls. What's wrong with you? I mean, you've been doing the show with me. A lot is wrong with me. I mean, how much time you got. But this just came in. So apparently McDonald's is getting rid of its drive-through AI ordering system. I mean, apparently you could order through AI.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Like I don't know how that, I don't know if the AI is like on the other end of it, how that works. But apparently they had like an AI ordering system. But they're getting rid of it because too many customers got completely incorrect orders, including these are Real things that customers ended up with. A handful of butter. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. What? Apparently someone got hundreds of chicken nuggets in order.
Starting point is 00:35:57 Just like a whole suitcase full of chicken nuggets. Although, man, I had a buddy named Beans who could knock down 48 in the Jokers at one point. at one point. I mean, like back in the day. I mean, he could take out, he could do 220 pieces pretty easy. You know what I mean? Back of the day. And then someone apparently ended up with ice cream loaded with bacon. Oh.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Which doesn't sound terrible. I mean, that's, I could see how that could be, I mean, like, is that breakfast ice cream? That might be appealing to some people. But a handful of butter, hundreds of chicken nuggets, and ice cream loaded with bacon. So maybe AI is not taking over the world yet fellas. Maybe we still got some time before the robots
Starting point is 00:36:41 run the world, right? We still need the humans looking over their shoulder to be like, hey, most people don't get handfuls of butter here. So let's double check this before they pull up to this window. Most people don't put bacon in the McFlurry. Let's double check this order. Get a handful
Starting point is 00:36:58 of butter. My thing is like, is someone handing you the order? Like, is there an employee who's like, here, man. Here's your is your hand full of butter? Like what? Who would order something like that? So I just thought that was funny.
Starting point is 00:37:13 Ryan, you said what's wrong with me? There's a lot, man. I could spend the whole show on some of my quirks. But people are sending me notes about the food, the family reunion thing. Okay, you got some good suggestions? Yeah, Casey Cole, who we interact with a lot. She follows a Sunday show. I know she'll be listening to me here.
Starting point is 00:37:32 She says her mom has a famous cheese grits recipe that she's she's going to DM me. So I might be able to come up with something there. That could be cool. Nathaniel Hobbs, uh, DM me and he says, don't take a dish.
Starting point is 00:37:49 If you take potato salad, then whoever usually makes the potato salad is not going to be happy. Uh, while I respect that, I also feel like maybe it can just be like a hunger game's of food. Like let's have a battle of potato salad. and to me, the winner gets to stay at the family reunion.
Starting point is 00:38:09 The loser has to leave. I like it. And if, Kathy, if, hey, if you want to bring it, then bring your best potato salad, right? If you want to stay and we can have kind of like a potato salad battle, the winner stays. That would be fair, right? If there's a competing dish at the reunion, that feels fair. Just like sport, we got the draft coming up. I compare this. This is a veteran that's been at the cookout 12 years, but here's a rookie in practice pushing them saying,
Starting point is 00:38:35 I'm not just going to sit here and eat your potato salad. I'm coming for that spot. I want to serve my potato salad. See, and I'm with you. And the problem is, Drew, is once you get on the list of being able to cook a particular dish at the cookout, that's your place for 30 years. Nobody challenges it. Nobody can get you off the list. Everyone's afraid to confront the person who's been making, you know, the chicken dish for 25 years, even if it's not good.
Starting point is 00:39:01 And that's kind of my concern, right? It's like, why do you get to have that position forever? Shouldn't we examine it every five years to see if you're still up to par? Right? That feels fair. As a Minnesota guy, you'll get this. But remember Aunt Edwards looking at KD in the playoffs, Anthony Edwards, just staring him down, pointing at him, and you could kind of see a changing of the guy.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Like this new guy, he's not supposed to be doing that to Kevin Durant. I feel like that might be you showing up with your new potato salad. Look at Aunt Kathy. Get in her face. Yeah, no, no, no, this is my show now. I'm bringing the potatoes. Like, I mean, like, imagine if it was like a sporting event to your point. Like, I walk in with the potato salad in my left hand, right?
Starting point is 00:39:42 And then a boombox in my right playing Tupac me against the world. And I'm just staring her down, right? Like, yeah, this is potato salad. So what? You know what I mean? You don't have to eat it if you don't want to. And then I just throw it on the table and walk away. And everybody's like, ooh, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:40:00 Like, it's like, there's drama. but it could go left too. You know what I mean? Because it's like, has the hooch already been open by that point? Am I delivering this pre-hooch or post-hooch? Because that matters a lot, the timing of the delivery of the potato salad battle. So I am thinking about it, though. We got some calls, though, right?
Starting point is 00:40:22 We do. Who's our first call? Let's go to Trevor. On this Merry Monday. Who? Trevor. Hey, Trevor. How you doing on Mary Monday?
Starting point is 00:40:29 What's something that's made you smile, man? Well, I'm breathing. That usually makes me smile. That's beautiful. Better than not breathing, right? I mean, that's right. That wouldn't be fun. So on the, I got a, it's not really a dish for you.
Starting point is 00:40:46 It's more like a dip. But I've made it once and I've been invited to the cookout ever since. Okay, what is it? Tell me about it. Take a block of cream cheese. Okay. And I assume somebody's going to be. somebody's going to be smoking something.
Starting point is 00:41:03 Am I right about that? Oh, yeah. That's going to be everything. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. They won't let me touch it, but yeah, they will be doing. You take a big block of cream cheese. Okay. And a sweet barbecue rub.
Starting point is 00:41:18 You sprinkle it over that cream cheese. And you just let that marinate in the smoker for a couple hours. What kind of dishes it in in the smoker? Just an aluminum pan. Okay. So cream cheese. You got that. Okay, what else?
Starting point is 00:41:35 And then you got like a pepper jelly, like a red pepper jelly. Ooh, okay. Yeah, and then right. So towards the end of the couple hours it's been marinating on there, you put that red pepper jelly on top and Triscus. And everybody will love it. Ooh. That sounds incredible.
Starting point is 00:41:57 Yeah. I love that, Trevor. I appreciate that. It'll stick to you, but you won't stop eating it. Oh, yeah, it's the reunion, though. Yeah, everything's going to stick to it. You know, that's the, you know, I basically cut out June and July for healthy stuff. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:42:13 Like, I'll get back to it in August. June and July and Christmas and Thanksgiving, ain't no diet in those times. I block those out. So I appreciate that. That sounds like a good, a really good dish. You all think I could pull that off, Ryan and John? you think I could do that? You probably need some help.
Starting point is 00:42:33 You don't sound confident, Ryan. Ryan, you seem like you think this is a bad idea. Like, I feel like you don't want me to do any of this. I don't. I don't want you to have to stand up against the ladies of your family because I'm in fear they would beat you down and you would come out to loser in this. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:49 That's one thing, you know, you don't mess with your aunts, your grandmas, you know, your mama. Stay away. I didn't think about the part. possibility of them joining forces together. Yeah. Uh-huh. And then you're done.
Starting point is 00:43:04 It'll be tough. Yeah, that'd be tough. Because, yeah, that could be, that could go left. You're right. That's something to think about. Who's our next caller? Brian. Brian, how you doing this Merry Monday?
Starting point is 00:43:16 What's something that made you happy? Something that made your smile. Some of those conversations made me laugh out loud, honestly, right? Brian, are you calling us from 1993? You're a little static you there. There you go. There you go. I thought you're on one of those phones.
Starting point is 00:43:31 My cousin used to sell these phones in high school that you put minutes on. I thought it was one of those. I didn't know. But go ahead. I can hear you now. No, I'm in southern Kentucky along the Tennessee border. And so like that right there in itself.
Starting point is 00:43:44 Okay. Tennessee. Is that Bowling Green area? Or is that, where is that in terms of like Bowling Green? I know that area. So it's south of Bowling Green. Okay. Like we're right on the border.
Starting point is 00:43:56 You're right there. You're right there. That's right. So all of our local TV growing up, the over there TV came out of Nashville. So all we saw was you tee this, you tee this, no, and it sucks. Yeah. Yeah. So.
Starting point is 00:44:11 But like a little tip, if you're going to take a competing dish to the reunion, you got to make sure it's at the front of the counter or the front of the table or wherever. Because, hey, if they got to reach for it and ain't going to get eight until late. man you see now you're talking real man let me ask you this question since we're on the subject okay let's say i see the potato salad that everybody eats there is it illegal for me to swap out that potato salad from mine like what's the rule see you got a box you got to box that potato salad out out you got to the back of the table yeah okay see that way people don't even really see it because it's the first spoonful comes out of
Starting point is 00:44:59 out of your dish. Yep. Everybody else's going to follow suit because, hey, somebody already eating that. It's already edible. I'm going to try to eat. And then the next thing you know, yours is eating and Faze is still back there.
Starting point is 00:45:10 It hadn't been touched yet. So, see, now you're making me really think. You know, what if I take it a step further? I take out like four scoops of my potato salad before I put it out. So it looks like people have already gotten to it. You know what I mean? Like, man, this is the potato salad you want. And I put it in the front.
Starting point is 00:45:28 and then box out the rest. I like how you think. And so, see, now you're just taking an empty dish home or disposable. You know, you just throw it away. Well, I appreciate that. Thanks for that call. I mean, it feels like everybody but Ryan wants me to do this and feels like, I don't know, Drew, you think I can pull this off or is this a bad idea?
Starting point is 00:45:49 I wouldn't be honest with me. Yeah, no, no. I like the caller suggesting about you fighting for position at the table. I think that's a great point. I like that boxing out. Yeah. Everything he said, I agree with. I'm just wondering how comfortable you feel doing that to your family members.
Starting point is 00:46:03 And if you were to get caught, shuffling some things around how worse that situation will be. But I love what he said, and I agree. If you can be that first scoop, you become the favorite at that point. Yeah, I mean, it's very, very high risk, high reward, it feels like. I mean, but if I get caught, I would probably have to blame somebody else. You know what I mean? It wouldn't go well if they caught me boxing out the normal, potato salad.
Starting point is 00:46:29 It would be they'd probably sit me down. It'd probably be like a whole thing. And that might get uncomfortable. That is something to think about as well. We got another call? Yeah, let's go to retired ref. Retired ref.
Starting point is 00:46:44 What's something that made you smile or something that made you happy on this Merry Monday? Listening to you. Oh, I appreciate that. I respect that. But, you might have lost you a little bit. go ahead say it again
Starting point is 00:47:01 if you want to be the star of your reunion yep okay I'm gonna cut him we're kind of losing you yeah yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:47:15 I think what he was saying serviced than the other guy yeah what I heard him saying was you're going to be the star of your reunion is that what you all heard that you're going to be the star of the reunion if you take the potato salad
Starting point is 00:47:29 And, now, it's got to be good, of course. But, like, if I, if I pull it off, it could be, it could be a special moment for me. Like, maybe I become, maybe for me, this is the start of my 30-year run of bringing the potato salad to the reunion. That's possible, right, fellas? Like you said, though, do you want that responsibility? You have to bring this great potato salad for the next 30 years of reunions?
Starting point is 00:47:51 It's on your shoulders. Yeah, I didn't think about that. Yeah, I didn't think about that. And then everybody's calling me to see if I'm bringing it. Yeah, that is, I don't. I just want to be able to say like, listen, we can represent two. You know, so if they had told us, felt like we could cook, and they invited us to bring dishes, we'd never be in this situation.
Starting point is 00:48:10 So it's kind of their fault that I think I'm even in this kind of position in the first place. But I appreciate the suggestions. I appreciate that you all think that I can pull this off. Everybody but Ryan, and I think this will go well if the potato salad is good. We'll be back after this. Starting point is 00:53:17 And the Revolution performed. Oh, no, they didn't. And the line was literally like. down the street around the block. I know a DJ who did the set there, and it was just chaotic. I was thinking about going when I landed, I was like, I gotta get ready for the next day,
Starting point is 00:53:38 but no, it was that. Morris Day performed at another venue. It was, oh yeah, it was wild. Now, it was wild. Prince is, you know, it's classic, man. I went to Prince's house one time, and it was the coolest thing, man. He had a room where he was only playing like old kung fu movies.
Starting point is 00:53:57 You know what I mean? There was just like a room. And it was next to like a dance hall. It was just the most chaotic thing I've ever seen. But it was a lot of fun. So you can tour his house? I'm sorry. Well, his house is the museum now.
Starting point is 00:54:09 It's the museum now. So it's, so now, so he has this gigantic complex with a studio, a ballroom, and he would, so you'd literally be in the Twin Cities. And it'd be like a Friday morning, and let's say about this time. And all of a sudden,
Starting point is 00:54:25 there'd be an alert that goes out that. That's like Prince is having a party. And all of a sudden, you would see people, because you'd have to get tickets at, like, first half. You'd see people running down the street. I'm talking like corporate America people, running down the street to get tickets
Starting point is 00:54:41 because it was like a first come, first serve kind of thing. But he would do that all the time. And just a really, really cool experience. So rest in peace to Prince. We'll definitely play. Maybe we should, we'll play some Prince. Let's do that. Front Prince in the next hour.
Starting point is 00:54:55 Drew, you got a library for us? I do. We're here talking about this great time of year. Starting point is 00:55:37 I'm getting a lot of recipe stuff from people, and some of this is too complicated for me. Like, I'm not at this level when it comes to cooking. I'm more like a hamburger helper kind of cook. You know what I mean? I'm not at this level. People are sending me dishes and they think I can pull it off. Here's maybe the best idea I have so far, fellas.
Starting point is 00:56:01 Kev Miller 7, Kev Miller says, just get some potato salad from a good restaurant, put it in a dish, and claim it as your own. Is that against the rules at a family union or what? No, not at all. That's a good, because that way then you don't even have to transport it from Minnesota to Mississippi. You just buy it when you're down to Mississippi, just bring the bowl.
Starting point is 00:56:21 Is that advice on our tweet of the day? Oh, I think that is our Twitter today for sure. Yeah, that sounded like good advice. That is really good advice. Here's my problem though, Drew. Will they expect me to do it next year too? And that like, will people figure it out? You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:56:35 Will someone be at that restaurant and be like, wait a minute. This tastes like Myron's potato cell. You know what I mean? Will I get exposed? That's my concern. Well, the trick is you want to go to a place you know is not going anywhere because if you're going to take this role for years to come, you don't want this place to just close down
Starting point is 00:56:51 and then everybody's like, where did that potato salad go you're famous for? So you need a big corporation, maybe a Costco, get something like that. You know it's going to be around forever. And you just claim it as yours and just make sure you always have access to that
Starting point is 00:57:04 before future family reunions. That would be just my luck. I go to Frank's diner and it shuts down in two years and then I got to come up with it from scratch and then everybody knows that I was faking the whole time. We got a call? We got time for a call?
Starting point is 00:57:19 What's good of Bob? Bob, how you doing this Mary Monday? What's something that made you happy? Something that made your smile. Are you the marvelous miren that I've always heard about? I like marvelous mire and I'll take it. I am mireen. Yeah, that is me.
Starting point is 00:57:34 All right now. Now, these recipes that hadn't been passed the Mason-Dixon line, but let me give you a good one here. Okay, we have about 30 seconds. Yep. Well, I can't do it in 30 seconds. Okay, give me how much you can give me, though. so good that you have smacked your mama to get a taste of.
Starting point is 00:57:52 And I have to disguise it to get it on the table. Okay. Now, that's the Southern Day. Now, if you want to Trinity, that's celery, peppers, and onion, that's what you start with. Oh, y'all. Okay. And you go to Justin Wilson on the YouTube, and you'll get an education. Justin Wilson on the YouTube.
Starting point is 00:58:15 Okay. Some celery. And I loved it. onion and peppers onion? Okay, I don't know I get onions. I don't know if I get onions.
Starting point is 00:58:25 I don't know if I get onions. Y'all don't have to tell me where to get that. I appreciate the... That's Southern.
