Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,

Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.

Marri McHap back in the building. Glad to be back on another edition of Mary Mondays on Kentucky Sports Radio.
This is my time. Like I'm watching shot put trials at 11 a.m. you know, on Peacock, right?
And I want to give a shout out to a couple of folks from your area, Alexis Holmes.
ran at Kentucky.
She's now going to the Olympics in the 400 meter dash,
took third on her way to Paris.
So kudos to her.
But my favorite track and field athlete,
one of my favorite of all time is getting ready to run here later this week.
And that's Sidney McLaughlin-Levron.
I think that's her full name now.
Who ran at Kentucky.
I don't know if people understand what Sidney McLaughlin-Levron has done
and what she could do in the world of track.
She is the four.
First off, she made the Olympics as a teenager.
Eight years ago, she was in the Olympics.
Literally, she won like the state championships,
I think, in California,
and then she was in the Olympic trials.
She is the world record holder in the 400-meter hurdles.
I ran track in college in high school.
Anybody who knows about the 400-meter hurdles
knows that is the most difficult race to run.
Like anyone will tell you that in track.
Like there is nothing harder.
My buddy Ray ran it in high school, right?
And the third to last hurdle, you could see him hitting the wall.
You know what I may look like somebody had like was pulling him back and he was barely
getting over the hurdle.
The second to last hurdle, he just didn't have anything left.
He trips over the hurdle.
and then the hurdle like pinned him to the ground
and he couldn't get up
and we are in the corner
dying because it looks like he is fighting
with this hurdle
but he has no energy so he can't get up
that's what that race does to you
so to watch Sidney McLaughlin-Laureone
do that at that level
the fastest woman in the history of the world
at 400 meter and the 400 meter hurdles
pretty amazing
but that's not it.
She just messed around this year with the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash.
Just like, hey, let's see if I can do it.
She ran the 400 earlier this month,
and she ran the third fastest 400 meter race in the history of the United States.
Just messing around, right?
She ran the 200 early this year.
Again, just, hey, let me see what I can do.
she has the second fastest time in the 200 meters in the world.
Wow.
Now she is not going to do those races.
She's going to focus on the 400 meter hurdles.
But this is, this would be like a basketball player being the best player in the paint,
the best big, you know, in the NBA, and also the best three-point shooter and also a point guard.
Like you just, at this level, you cannot run at world class.
speeds in multiple events, and Sydney has managed to do that.
All I'm saying is we are literally watching one of the greatest athletes in the history of
mankind, and that is not an exaggeration.
What Sidney McLaughlin-Laugh from LeVrone is capable of doing is unlike anything we've ever
seen in the history of track and field, and that will continue in Paris, fellas, and I can't
wait to see what she does in this Olympics.
Yeah, it's hard to kind of even fathom that she actually ran.
here for Kentucky one year when she has now
become the face of
Team USA track and field.
Men, women, she is the face of the
of the team.
It's like you said, every time she steps on the track
she's breaking another record.
She's like in any event.
I think did she like even run in the
4 by 400 relay?
Yeah, she's done it off.
Yeah, she does everything and she's good at it.
So we're, even though she was here for one year, we were very
proud of her.
That was fun.
she was on campus at a time when the basketball team was not necessarily at its peak,
but still a really good time for the basketball program with a lot of star power on that team.
Football was doing well with a lot of celebrities.
But it was always fun to be like, but none of those guys, they're not the most famous person
on campus right now.
Sydney over there with track and field, she is world famous.
And it's something that just being a UK athlete is hard to even get close to that
stratosphere she's in internationally.
I mean, can you imagine being the best at something in the history of a,
like the greatest ever.
And like, you know, we obviously have those conversations about basketball and football.
And like, nobody wins because, you know, if you think Michael Jordan is better, LeBron, whatever.
But like this is documented.
Like, there is no one who could ever say that they are greater than her because of the time that she's run.
And, I mean, she goes back out this year.
She had just been dabbling in other events and she's like, all right, the 400 meter hurdles, that's my race.
let me run it again, let me get back to doing that.
And the first time she goes out, she's the fastest in the world.
It's just, I would actually hate to be her competitor.
Because I'd be like, how are you this good?
You know what I mean?
Like, how are you so excellent at this level?
It'd be frustrating a little bit, I think, running next to her.
Yeah, while we're shouting out Sydney,
we had another former cat qualify for Paris last night.
Alexis Holmes will be in the 400 meter from Kentucky.
So, yeah, I'm sorry, you already said that, yes,
We have two more today.
Two more trials.
Was it day three, day four?
Maybe we might have a couple more cats qualified today.
But UK track and field, Sydney is the big name.
But they've had a couple Olympians four years ago and expect to have more this time around.
It's an incredible program.
I mean, again, I'm a big track and field fan.
Like the SEC is a different thing, you know, just in terms of track and field.
It's always funny to me, right?
You see someone on the football field and you're like, my goodness,
that's the fastest person.
I've ever seen.
You see him running down and like we can count, you know,
the fastest player we've ever seen on a football field.
You put them on a track with these track people.
It is a whole different thing.
I mean,
it's just amazing that the human body can move at that speed at that level.
And Sydney literally is the greatest of all time.
In the men's,
was it Noah Lyles?
Yeah.
I'm not,
I don't watch it as closely.
you, but I know enough to know how good he is.
But just how special is he historically?
It's not a Kentucky connection, but he seems to be
pretty elite as well.
Yeah, he's in, so yesterday
in the final,
like, so they're spicing it up.
So now they're doing intros.
So now like they're introducing them like
it's, you know, Survivor series or something like that.
So everyone comes out one by one.
There's a lot of pageantry.
It's kind of cool.
So in the in the semifinals,
Noah Liles pulls out a Pokemon card.
I don't know about Pokemon, right?
But apparently it was like some rare Pokemon card.
And he ran with it.
Like he just put it in his uniform and he ran.
So everybody, I guess, in the Pokemon world, everyone was going crazy about that.
Because he, like, showed it to the camera.
And then someone interviewed him about it.
This is my problem with, like, anime people, Pokemon, people.
Like, someone interviewed him was like, hey, man, what's the significance of the card?
And he's like, well, if you know, you know.
No, I don't know.
So why don't you tell me what it is?
You know what I mean?
Like, anime and Pokemon people expect you to know everything.
And I'm like, no, help me understand.
But he pulled it out.
Everyone got excited.
Yesterday they announced him.
And he comes out and, you know, whenever I would run, I'd like jump, you know,
get ready to stretch, get in the blocks, you know.
He like runs 50 meters.
And it's like amping up the crowd.
And it was a little intense.
Like it was a little like two,
much. You know what I mean? But then he wins and now he's going to represent the United States.
He's won the World Championship at the 100, 200 and the 4 by 1. He could do it again in Paris.
I just wondered what he has next. I mean, this is the same guy. If you remember a couple years ago
at the 2020 Olympics, which actually happened in 2021, he said, we're the only people that
can say we're world champions. The basketball players can't say that. Like they're not
doing this the way that we're doing it.
How can you say you win an NBA title
and you're the world champion
when you don't play every team in the world?
And that created a big firestorm
in the sports world because they're like,
how can you say that? He was right, of course.
But a lot of people know him
from that moment.
That also saw when he qualified
for Paris in the 100 meter,
his mom was just sitting with Snoop Dogg
in the crowd and Snoop Dogg's cheering for him.
So I want all Snoop Dogg in my Olympics
coverage. Every sport. Put Snoop Dog in there.
Who is giving Snoop Dog a private plane?
Because how is he everywhere?
I've seen him at soccer games.
I've seen him at track and field events.
He's been with the Milwaukee Brewers where I'm from.
He like spent a day with them.
Snoop Dog is everywhere.
Matt and I always have this conversation of like who are the most recognizable people in this country?
Meaning like you could walk down the street.
A lot of these athletes that people think are recognizable, they're not.
in terms of like anybody would know who they are right but I think there's probably a handful of
people we will put dolly parton on the list right I think everybody would know her I mean today
I think you'd have to say Taylor Swift and Beyonce I mean at some level like I think most people
would know them Snoop Dogg I think is on that list like it feels like Snoop is just everywhere
and everybody knows him and it feels like his job is just to go play
and be Snoop Dog.
And it feels kind of cool, right, that he has that, that he has that role.
I don't even know if Snoop tells people he's coming at this point.
Like, I think Snoop just shows up to events and then they're like, oh, my goodness,
Snoop is here.
We got to get him involved, right?
It feels that way.
He's taking the Soul Plain everywhere around.
That's what yesterday.
Dude qualifies and they cut to his mom and she's celebrating.
It's just like, is that Snoop Dog sitting by his mom?
That's crazy.
It's amazing.
Like that feels
like just his job.
Like he's just his Snoop.
Like is there a salary attached to that?
Like what's the,
what comes with that?
I don't know.
But I just think he just is really enjoying life.
You know what I mean?
I saw him.
They actually put him,
I think he ran a 200 meter dash.
And it was like 33 seconds or something like that.
But it was,
you know,
he's still so skinny.
You know,
he still can't put any weight on that brain.
And that was funny to why Snoop
dog like run around the track.
But man, like it feels like no matter what who you're trying to like promote what
you're trying to promote.
In those meetings, Snoop Dog has always mentioned as someone that they want to get
involved.
Like it doesn't matter.
Like can we get Snoop?
I think Matt went to some Willie Nelson concert last year.
Like some two day.
Birthday.
And Snoop was there.
You know?
And just like holding court and everybody loved them.
Like how many people can.
Like he's one of the few people.
that legitimately could go anywhere and he'd be universally accepted.
You know what I mean?
Which is interesting because 30 years ago, I'm like that same dude.
Yeah.
Murder was the case guy?
Like, it's amazing that he's become like this sort of family-friendly guy
considering kind of where he started.
He and Willie have a very common interest, I think.
They share a passion for something.
Well, I mean, Snoop has said that passion is actually even too much for him.
He basically said Willie is in a different league
compared to the league that he is in.
So it's been amazing to kind of watch him.
The NBA draft is this week.
You've got obviously Reed Shepard,
I think it'll be a top three pick potentially.
Rob Dillingham should be a top 10 pick.
And then you got, to me, my biggest thing is De Antonio Reeves conversation, right?
Like we're talking about Bronny James getting drafted.
You know, and my guess is the Lakers will pick him in the second round because they want to, you know, make LeBron happy.
On some level, I get it.
Like, you can't do a whole lot about that level of sort of nepotism.
If someone has a business or a law firm or a restaurant, I mean, you get to hire your kids, you know.
I don't know what you do about that.
It becomes a problem when that person isn't qualified.
I've done Brian and James games since he was in high school.
He doesn't have an NBA skill, right?
there's nothing that I see that translates to the NBA.
And he's six one.
That's the other thing people are leaving out.
He's six foot one.
Antonio Reeves is a guy who has been grinding his entire career to get to this moment.
One of the three best three-point shooters in America.
Now that's amazing that Kentucky had the top three three-point shooters in the entire country.
Antonio Reeves is one of them.
Made 47% of his threes.
You tell me that guy can't help an NBA roster?
a season that 6-4 played at the highest level
was a great player in the best league in the country
and he can shoot?
Like, why is that guy not in conversations
but Brony James has to be a pick somewhere in the second round?
I don't get it.
You're preaching to the choir here.
We don't understand.
I mean, NBA gentlemeners act like,
Myron, he's old and he's 23 years old.
Like, he's too old.
Like, come on, man.
He'll be a guy you wait.
He'll go down to the G League and he'll average 25, 28 points a game and then finally get his shot.
But I think teams just can't buy in on how he could help them right now.
I think he's going to get picked.
Somebody would be crazy to not take that guy.
He shot 50% from the field, 40% from 3.
Missed a free throw at the end of the year.
He would have done that 50, 40, 90 club.
He shot like 88% from free throws.
He's the leading score in Kentucky in the John Caliperi era per game.
He passed Jamal Murray at like 20.
point two something points, I believe, per game.
A guy that can fill it up like that
and it's not just three points shooting, he can do it
at every level on the court.
A team will find a way to put him
out there to get buckets.
And then the dude that you can
trust, you know, the age thing to me
is that's a mature guy coming in
who maybe isn't going to be like
the 19 year old you might pick.
You know, who's going to be able to
be a leader, be mature in the locker room,
handle himself. I just, it bothers
me that a guy like that can work
his way to this level.
And here's my other thing, right? And I'm not just saying
this because I'm on KSR. I mean, Matt and I talk
about this. The history of
Kentucky players, no matter what anyone thinks,
those guys get
to the league and they stay in the league.
Like that is something that a lot
of schools can't say. There are a lot of schools
who've sent a bunch of NBA draftics,
not at Kentucky's level, but there are a lot of
schools in the last 20 years who've sent a ton of guys
to the NBA. Tell me how many
of those guys got a second contract.
Like, that to me is the difference.
playing at this level helps you prepare for playing at that level.
He's been going against NBA guys.
He's been in practice with two lottery picks,
two guys who are going to be top 10 picks in this draft.
And he was the leading score in that group that has to count for something.
Because if it doesn't count for something, then what are we doing?
Like what is the draft process in a weak draft like this, where it's not a great draft,
if an Antonio Reeves can't get recognition, but Bronte and James can get it,
and he didn't even average five points a game.
Yeah, Reeves is almost consensus all-American.
I think one of them left him off, maybe the AP.
It's a guy that has proven, can go out and get you basket.
Sure, he's a little older than these prospects.
Sure is defense, a little limited there.
But there will be a veteran team that can contend now,
and they just need a guy that can knock down shots and score baskets
occasionally off the bench.
And I think you would be crazy to pass him up for some project that you may never see the NBA long term.
Yeah.
I'll tell you what, if he goes undrafted, it's just not right.
At the end of the day, it's just wrong if that happens.
If Justin Edward gets drafted and Antonio Rees does not, there's something wrong.
We're kind of looking at each of the two Kentucky guys in the second round.
You have Edwards who didn't really prove much, but the youth, the potential versus Reeves, the opposite.
He's got to get drafted.
We'll be back up to this.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase.
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing,
and we're still chasing it,
and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,
or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them?
On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them
and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin and Rising hockey
star Lila Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you,
but don't ever feel like you don't feel on.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke.
The ability to show a gold medal to someone
and have their face light up and smile,
that means the world to me.
And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.
At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire
world. Like, I can do anything.
I can do anything.
Because resilience isn't just about winning.
It's about showing up, even when it's hard.

Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect.
We were God's chosen kingdom on earth.
He felt destined for greatness.
So when a swag.
Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world.
He doesn't look back.

I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come

When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion dollar fraud.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts,

Yeah.
Oh, Prince.
Awesome.
The legend himself.
I was at his house and then he's got this stage, man.
And I'm at an event.
This is all corporate.
We're all in suits and we're all buttoned up.
You know, it's one of those events, right?
Prince gets on stage.
All of us ran and screamed to rush to the front.
It was like just you lose yourself when you see someone like that and you're in the presence of the great prince.
I think, Ryan, you got a live read for us?
Yes.
but I'm hanging on pins and needles because I love Prince.
This purple rain came out and I was in high school,
so I'd love to hear all your stories about it.
But yeah, first of all, our friends of Stock to Mortgage are your go-to for your home loan needs
with 75 branches and locations in Kentucky and beyond.
And Myron would say they're even in,
they're licensed in 28 states, and as always, they're growing.
Stock to mortgage has literally hundreds of home loan experts ready to help.
They're the number one rural housing lender in the state
and help people become homeowners every day.
Dr. Mortgage, find out more by going to Stockton.com,
M&S, 8259, Equal Housing Lender.
I'll tell a quick print story.
This is a little crazy story that happened.
So I was at his house.
Again, he's playing like that.
Humble brag.
I was at Prince's house.
No, so you go in his house, you go to his house,
and he's got secret service-looking dudes outside.
Everybody's in black suits, earpiece is the whole deal, right?
You can't take your cell phones in.
So they take your phones, you know, like he's that kind of a person.
There is a woman at the front who is selling legitimately only three items.
You can get a bottle of water, you can get red beans and rice, and you can get gluten-free
brownies.
I kid you not.
And it's not like, it's not like, you know, an official menu that someone typed out.
You know what I mean?
It's like somebody wrote down $5 brownies, you know what I mean, $3 red beans.
and rice, $2 bottle of water, only cash, right?
This is before you actually get into the venue.
Then you walk into the venue.
It's this gigantic setup he has.
Again, there's like a concert hall in his house.
And next to it is like this random room where he just likes kung fu movies.
So there's like people watching kung fu movies.
And then there's another group that's like dancing with this incredible DJ.
All of a sudden, from the back of the stage, these guys walk out.
And you're kind of looking and you're like, okay.
These guys are giant like bodyguard types.
You're looking in the middle of and you're like, what?
What on earth is that?
Who is this person?
And why is she surrounded by five gigantic bodyguards?
And then she makes her way towards Prince who, Prince is in the corner playing pool.
Like he's just shooting pool, you know, kind of hanging out.
And then the group clears and you see who's in the middle of it.
It's Madonna.
Oh my goodness.
So it's Madonna and Prince
hanging out at a pool table.
I'm not joking.
I'm not joking.
Just hanging out at this pool table.
And it was the wildest scene
in the world.
Because you're like, who's going to,
you don't have a phone.
So you can't,
you can't take a picture.
You know what I mean?
You can't tweet it.
You can't do any of that stuff.
Like you don't have the ability
to capture that moment
beyond
word of mouth.
But literally, she comes through
these giant, these gigantic bodyguards
and they're just hanging
in the corner and everyone's kind of
like looking like trying not to be weird
because like Prince is right there.
So it's not like he's on stage yet, he's just right there.
So everyone's trying to be like
like how do I impress?
Like we're all trying to impress Prince a little bit.
Like, you know, how do you get his attention
and then Madonna's there?
It was like a, it was one of those nice men
that like, you know,
how do you make that up?
And who would believe you?
Because you don't have a picture
because nobody has a phone.
But I kid you not, that was a real thing that happened.
Dude, you've been hosting this show now for a while.
It's like the fifth time,
and this is the best stuff you said so far.
I love hearing it.
I want to hear more about this kind of stuff.
It was fascinating, man.
And again, he's Jehovah's Witness.
So there's no alcohol.
Like he can't, he won't sell alcohol at his house.
So there's nothing.
So we're just off.
happiness and joy.
You know what I mean?
Like we're just,
we're just excited to be there.
And again,
you can buy red beans and rice,
bottle water,
gluten-free brownies.
That's it.
Did you get to see where he beat
Charlie Murphy in basketball?
Did you see the home court advantage
for the blasts?
Did not see that,
but I'm really good friends
with his high school basketball coach.
So he was a junior varsity player,
great ball handling ability,
just wasn't that tall.
But I know his former coach pretty well.

More prints.
God, this is good stuff.
I mean, that's nothing compared to people.
I would say everybody you meet in Minnesota,
they all have a print story.
You know what I mean?
Like, it's just, it's kind of the thing.
But that's light work compared to people who,
you know, I know people have been like really,
really in these cool places with them.
My sister, he would play these late,
these after after party shows.
Like one of the big things he would do here is like,
like he'd have a show.
And then all of a sudden he'd be like,
I feel like going to the movies.
And at like 2 a.m., he'd rent out a movie theater.
And like they'd play his favorite movie.
He'd bring some people.
And then he'd go play another show.
Like my sister was in Chicago once.
and she was, you know, she knew some NBA folks.
And like all of a sudden, like, a text comes at like midnight.
And he's like, hey, after the print show, he's going to play at this little bar at like 3 a.m.
And apparently he played like 3 to like 7 a.m.
At this little bar they shut down.
Wow.
And so just I love, what I love is performers who connect with their fans on that level, you know.
nothing against the Taylor Swift's and Beyonce's of the world.
They're too big to do that.
You know what I mean?
Like they can't anymore probably do some of that stuff.
But it's cool when you hear those stories about those sort of intimate shows with some of our favorite stars.
So this guy, Bobby English, I've been talking about what to bring to the family reunion in Mississippi.
Bobby English 017.
He says one of my managers back in the day nearly won a chili.
cookoff at work after he took his crock pot to Waffle House and just told them to fill it up.
They charged them 25 bucks.
Now that's genius, right?
You bring your crock pot to Waffle House and just tell them, fill this thing up.
Give me all the chili you got.
You bring it to the family union.
You plug it in.
You know, they don't know the difference.
No.
It's just chilly, right?
And now, now that might be the way to go.
I don't know if you go to Waffle House, though.
It's it's Burt's Chili.
It's established.
If you're going to cook out near a Waffle House, someone might spot the
Bert's chili.
I think they went a little too far.
Yeah, I might have, I like the idea of taking a crock pot into a restaurant.
But Bert, he has some famous stuff in all the Waffle homes in the South.
So I think it's a risky move there.
Just throw some extra cheese in it or something like that, make it your own.
That's what you got to do.
Yeah.
I mean, you know, I don't know, I don't know Waffle House culture.
But like so like they would probably
Someone at the cookout would figure it out, you think?
I mean it's named after a guy named Bert.
I don't know if Bert's alive.
I don't know how popular he is,
but it is a branded chili.
Ryan used to have chili cookoffs at his house.
At my house.
And we had a traveling trophy and Drew won the traveling trophy.
He'd keep it for one year.
Yeah.
It's an honor to be honest.
So how did you know that it wasn't, you know,
somebody didn't just go to a waffle house and get some?
How did you know?
What I remember about that night, those memories are limited.
There's a lot more fun being had.
I think maybe some moonshine was brought out at one point.
So when it came time to vote for the chili, it was a little chaotic.
I was just happy to be the one that was the winner in the end.
I got you.
I like the concept of it.
I like the idea of maybe bringing a crock pot and going someplace and just having them fill it up with chili.
Yeah.
And there's your dish.
Who would know the difference?
There's your dish.
Man, you know what?
I'm learning so much on this show.
I think it's going to go well for sure.
We got a call or two.
Yes, let's go to Jay Rock.
Jay, what you got on this Merry Monday?
Hello?
Hello.
Jay, is this Jay Rock?
How are you doing?
What's something that made you happy?
Something that made you smile.
Well, you're a chemistry with the guys.
Hey, going back to your family.
family cookout, take whatever you want, ain't nothing bad going to happen.
Imagine getting to the family cookout and pulling up with your sister and having to tell everybody you ain't seen in years that her kids is your kids or you, they uncle, too.
Holla.
Okay.
I don't know.
I don't know what show he just pitched.
Yeah, I don't know about that.
I'm not, yeah, it ain't that kind of family reunion.
That would be a challenge, though.
I mean, I certainly have been in some family reunions and you learned some things that you didn't know.
Yes.
You know what I mean?
When you were 11 or 12 and then you get older and then people are like, hey, I'm going to tell you this story that you never heard.
It's like, do I need to know that?
You know, like how much do I need to know of the family business at this point?
I just want to eat and have fun.
Honestly, that's kind of why I'm here.
I don't need to know what happened in 1973 at Wisconsin Dales or wherever y'all.
I don't know.
Jay Rock likes to throw shade at another caller there.
That was kind of a reference we've heard for many years.
Okay.
Okay.
Yeah, that's a different kind of family union.
I don't want to hear that.
Any part of that.
But there could be drama.
Well, what's our next caller?
David.
David, how you doing this Merry Monday?
What's something that made you happy?
Something that made you smile.
Well, I'm about to leave the state of Arkansas.
It makes me smile.
Okay.
That's good.
And no longer happy.
to be a basketball Benny.
Okay.
So you were, do you live in Arkansas,
or you were just there on travel or business or what?
Well, we was there to see family.
Gotcha.
Okay.
So you know about family get-togethers?
What do you think about this idea of me bringing something to the family reunion?
Yeah, I like the idea of stealing something from a restaurant.
Okay.
I like that too.
Yeah, I'm thinking that might be the way to go,
but Drew did make a good point.
If it's like a local place and then it's out of business or like what if they don't have enough?
Then I'm kind of in a tough spot, right?
So at your family reunion, what two colleges come in that you don't like?
Oh, with me?
That's good.
See, it's hard for me because, you know, as a college sports guy, I don't really have, you know, animosity against anybody.
It'd probably be like where I played college football, which, you know,
is Minnesota State Mancato.
Probably St. Cloud State was a school, and then Manona State was another school.
So those two schools, I probably would hand them to water and then knock it out of their hands on that day.
You know what I mean?
Like if they were, I'd probably like, hey, I know you're thirsty at 100 degrees.
Here's a glass of water.
And then I'd probably knock it out of their hands.
That's probably what I would do with those particular schools.
Does that mean?
There you go.
I'm just being honest.
I'm not at all.
lot at all. Is that too far, fellas?
No.
Rivalries, that's what makes sports great, man.
Every school's got their bitter rival.
So if Wynonna Judd was your big rival, you go for it.
Winona Judd.
And the Judd's, the Winona and the Judds.
How about the St. Cloud State Huskies?
Now we've got to add them to our list.
And we got to stand up for myron.
I didn't know we had a rival there.
Man, they, you know, they're those people who, they just think they're better than you a little.
It just, it just, it rubs you the wrong way when you're around there.
You know what I mean?
Like, it just, it just, it just, it just, don't feel good.
All of their football players, too, were, like, dudes who had a certain look, you know, all had, like, their hair the same way.
It was just one of those things that you just, and then Winona, that, that was just another place.
I just didn't really, that's a rival for sure.
They, they're by this, by the Mississippi River, and they'd always talk about, oh, we're on.
the river. So what?
You went on to Minnesota.
Who cares? You know what I mean? Like that's your claim to fame? Get out of here.
So those will probably be the two schools,
I think, for me. We got time for one more call?
Let's do one more. We got junior.
Junior, what's something that made you happy? Something that made you smile on this
Merry Monday.
Got a little bit of rain yesterday. That helped out.
Okay. That's good.
Last Monday, you were talking about the ending of the Calipari era
and I couldn't get in to make the analogy.
But the perfect analogy is the final scene of training day.
When Longo went back to the hood and everybody turned their back on him,
they had his back for so many years.
And then he needed one last thing to get the heat off of him
and the people in the hood wouldn't do it.
And then Kentucky fans wouldn't either.
And it's goodbye, Cal, goodbye Alonzo.
Yeah, that's a fair, that's an interesting comparison.
What's always fascinating to me about that movie is that was Denzel's Oscar, right?
Like that, you know what I mean?
All these other great movies you made, that was sort of his Oscar moment.
But yeah, I think, I wonder what the game is going to be like, fellas.
Like I wonder, like that Arkansas, Kentucky game in Lexington, right, the only game of the year, which YDSC did that, I don't know.
You got to play multiple games.
considering the storyline.
That's just going to be interesting to see the vibe in that building when Cal walks back in.
You know what I mean?
That's going to be interesting to see.
Yeah, I was there when Patino came back and it was till to this day, maybe the most,
it is the best pregame environment I've ever been to any sport, any game anywhere,
how Rupp felt waiting on Patino to come out in the locker room, come on the court.
It'll be the same way when Caliperi comes out when Arkansas comes in.
It'll be the exact same.
I was there for one of the first games when Kentucky went to play Patino.
And I was at the same hotel as the Kentucky players.
And there was a line of state troopers on every floor walking them around everywhere.
Like it was crazy.
I've never seen anything like it.
Never seen anything like it.
We'll talk a little bit more about the NBA draft and a good cookout after this.

Yeah, let me tell you, this segment is sponsored by our friends at cornbread hemp.
We want to remind you that at this very moment,
prohibition groups are trying to reverse the 2018 farm bill that has made cornbread hemp
legal and other hemp products legal in Kentucky and throughout the country.

Back to you, Myron.
All right.
NBA draft is obviously coming this week.
I'm looking forward to seeing, you know,
where everybody ends up.
It's a hard draft to figure out a lot of international guys,
you know, with a bunch of YouTube highlights.
We haven't seen them for the most part in this country.
I know Alex Sar could be the top pick.
A lot of people talking about him.
But yeah, Reed Shepard's going to be top five pick.
And it makes sense in a draft like this.
I think he showed more athleticism
than anybody knew he had.
adding the combine and then being, you know, the best three-point shooter in the country,
I think the pedigree, all those things.
I think he can come in and be a really good addition to any team.
I mean, the thing about Reed Shepherd is he's not going to hurt your team, you know,
like he can come in and play and contribute.
And I don't know that you can say that about everybody in the first round.
There's going to be a lot of G-League guys in this first round.
But I think Reed Shepherd can come in and be a contributor.
right away. I'm not saying he'll be a great player right away, but he can contribute on day one, I think, with an NBA team. What do you all think?
Well, I think so, too. And I kind of secretly hope he would slip to fourth with the spurs. I think they could build with him and Victor Wimbenyama. You know, I think that would be kind of fun to watch Reed develop with him. So, I mean, he's, if he even lasts until four, you know, one mock draft had him at number one and one time in the past week or so. Seems to be three or four. Seems to be the safe pick. But either way, it's going to be amazing to where,
this time last year, we were thinking about him being probably the seventh or eighth man
coming in. Well, I guess he was the seventh man.
Yeah.
He was.
Ouch.
Thanks, Ryan.
Top five pick, but came off the, uh, drew, what do you think?
Can he, uh, you can come in and contribute right away?
I think I just felt pain that I didn't want to feel again, Ryan, bring that out.
No, it seems, uh, I'm, I'm pretty convinced he's going to go to the Rockets.
We heard early in the process, they liked him.
And as you just read more and more stuff from the guys that covered closely,
I know your colleagues, Jonathan Givini.
Is that how you pronounce it? Gavoni?
Gavone.
Yeah.
His most recent mock draft has Reed of the Rockets saying both the coaching staff and the front office love read there for youth and what he can do in the back court.
So I'm kind of penciling him in at number three.
But I'm most excited to see what happens to Rob Dillingham because he could go to the Spurs and play with Wimby.
ESPN has some projected going there with the eighth pick because the Spurs have two top ten picks.
But whatever team gets read and.
Rob, those are two all-time favorites in Lexington.
Those two organizations are getting a whole fan base coming with those guys
because UK fans are excited to keep following them with their next step
because we didn't get enough of them here in Lexington.
Yes, it's going to be fascinating, I think, with Rob.
You know, I've been, I told Matt this before he came.
I'm like, listen, Rob is Rob.
Like, I think he's one of the more polarizing guys in the lottery right now.
You know, there are a lot of people who go, okay, can he contribute on the defensive end?
I think he measured about 6-1.
The thing about Rob is he is a real score.
Like he is like a legit natural score who I think can get buckets at any level.
I think it'll just come down to him in the NBA and having that freedom.
I think we'll see a different player.
He was great obviously at Kentucky and everything he's able to do.
But Rob Dillingham in an NBA system where you can't zone people,
you've got to go one on one all the time.
you're playing this fast break basketball,
I think he has a chance to be really good
because I think that actually plays to his strengths
more than any other thing.
Is the draft also, I mean, you mentioned this, Drew,
is it also a bit of a like, my goodness,
we're going to have two lottery picks
and another guy in Antonio Reeves
who could go at some point in the second round
and we rarely saw those guys together on the court
because of the way Cal approached things.
Is that a bit of a like a sour reminder?
as well, even though you're happy for them?
Yeah, I can't speak for the whole fan base,
but I feel like we all did a good job of moving on
when Mark Pope got here.
We had that big press conference in Rupp Arena.
Pope's built a roster that I think everyone likes.
They're excited to see.
But draft week is kind of reopening that wound a little bit.
There was a graphic that went around social media
just this past weekend where it listed the best shooters in the draft
and one, two, and three had Kentucky logos by their name.
So that brought back some thoughts we thought we had moved on
from. So that night, even though we'll be happy
for them, I'm sure they'll play some highlights that
will hurt us a little bit, but overall
we're still excited to see those guys live
their dreams. And Reed and Rob, especially
wherever they end up, like I said, I think they'll sell
a lot of jerseys in the Bluegrass State.
Myron, it was coaching malpractice.
Those three guys didn't play together. It was just
ridiculous. And the fact that
if the first two picks are foreign
players, three and four could be
UK guys. The first
two college players could be Kentucky
guys, and the fact that they all didn't play
together.
It's just,
it's coaching malpractice what happened last year.
Yeah,
it's interesting kind of how that all unfolded,
because it seemed pretty obviously everybody.
You know,
I think part of this,
and I don't think it's just Kentucky,
I think the NIL area has even made it more challenging
because, you know,
it's one thing to promise a kid,
we're going to give you a starting spot and all those things.
Now with the NIL money attached to it,
I think it's almost added more pressure
to coaching,
for coaches to have to say,
say, all right, here's a spot, right?
You're going to be our point guard.
You're going to be our small fort, whatever.
And I think it just puts a lot of programs in a tough spot
when you're not willing to adjust because, my goodness,
you've got a couple lottery picks.
You've got to get them on the court and you've got to play them a ton.
And you've got to start them, I think, too, right?
That didn't happen.
But still, a great moment.
This is my favorite week of the year because I love seeing the guys I've covered since
high school reached their dreams.
Like, it's just always such a cool moment.
to watch them walk across the stage.
Their families are there.
I've been to NBA drafts.
It's just a really cool moment
when you see some of these guys achieve their dreams.
We got time for one last call.
Let's do, yeah, let's do Chase.
Jace?
Hey, guys.
Hey, guys.
Oh, I'm doing great.
How are you doing?
How are you doing, we're good.
Well, my, what made me smile,
what made me happy is still from last Saturday.
drove the fiancé up to the meet and greet.
She just started diving into Kentucky sports the past two years.
She's falling in love.
Listen to you guys every day.
And I got to give her a quick shout out because the best part about Saturday was
we found out we're going to be first time parents the morning before we drove to Lexington.
Let's go.
Congratulations, man.
Let's go.
Merry Monday.
Wow.
First time.
So you don't know, you haven't done the gender reveal yet.
know any of that stuff yet.
We haven't even told the family.
You guys are the first one to know.
Oh, wow.
Oh, we're honored.
Yeah.
All I'll say, and you do with this what you want,
Myron is a pretty good name.
I'm not, you know, you do what you want to do.
But it's just, I would put it on the list if I were you.
But no, congratulations to you and yours.
Have an incredible time.
I hope everything goes well.
That's a fascinating, fascinating moment for, I think,
any couple, any parent here.
So thank you very much.
Did we get all our reason?
We did.
We do everything we had to do?
We did.
Close enough.
Good enough.
This was fun.
As usual, can't wait to do it again next week just before the family reunion.
And you all have a great Monday.
Smile a lot.
Find something to laugh about.
I'll see you soon.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy,
not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.

We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where SportsSlice comes in.
I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise,
breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline.
And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves,

You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kare Games.

I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on, a Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman.
Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud.
But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?
