Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Now here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, Ryan, Drew and Shannon. Got a couple people coming in for lunch. Just got a couple that came in from Bowling Green. They're here for the first time ever. It listens every day.
Starting point is 00:03:54 So thank you for coming in, guys. We appreciate that. You know, we started during COVID, the countdown of the countdown of the Kentucky counties, 120 counties. And we got to poor Spencer County, and then we stopped doing it. Because football season started, basketball season. We got busy with stuff.
Starting point is 00:04:10 No, no, don't make excuses. We didn't do it because we're KSR, and we just, we don't finish tasks. It's hard time to finish stuff. Let's look in the mirror on that one. We've brought it back up. We've done Spencer, Todd, Taylor. I think that's it. I think that's right.
Starting point is 00:04:24 I think that's it. So this will be our fourth one. It's Trigg County. Now I asked the other day when we did Todd County If you knew where it was Shannon Do you know where Trigg County is? It's South, South Kentucky, right? Well, you said that about Todd County
Starting point is 00:04:39 It's all south We'll be a little more specific Okay Is it close to like Hopkinsville? Yes, there you go It's in between Hopkinsville and the lakes Land between the Lakes Well, hopefully we talked about
Starting point is 00:04:54 The Werewolf, the Land Between the Lakes Drew, I'm sorry you missed that show. I didn't hear the last two county profiles, so I don't know what I'm up against here. Well, the land between the lakes, We're going to do our show on Friday. And even your buddy Manny texted in today, it's real. It's a real thing. I believe it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:12 So lead us off. This is second region. This is your area, Western Kentucky, Trigg County. Yes, the Trigg County is in the best part of the state, the Penny Rile region, without question, the best part of the state. Hopkins County is also around there, Mulember. Christian Critton. We got a lot of good things going on there. But today it's all about trig. Population, 12,000-ish according to the Internet. I don't know if that's true. But county seat, Cadiz.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Cadiz. Have you ever been there? Been there. It's not Cadiz. It's Cadiz. Half the state thinks it's pronounced KD's. I've heard KD's. Yeah. It's Cadiz, like with an S on the end. There you go. But with a Z when you're writing it out. Population 2600, according to Wikipedia. I feel like all of them are amazing people.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Like I said, it touches Lake Barclay. Lake Barclay actually kind of cuts Trigg in half, forming the land between the lakes that you all have discussed. Trick County, those good people, unfortunately, do border Tennessee a little bit to their south, so they do have to mingle with Tennessee at their southern border, but that's all right. I also find it very interesting. You can find elk and bison there. Did you know we have bison in Kentucky?
Starting point is 00:06:23 I did not know this. Well, you do now. If you would like to see them, go to Trigg County. They have, I mean, it's not like natural, but they kind of preserve it. What would you call that? It's an elk and bison kind of viewing thing. I'm sure it has a name that I'm not. Preservation.
Starting point is 00:06:37 There you go. Yeah. We got that going on. Does that excite you? Is it in the land between the lakes? Like, is that where they are? It's all in there. You know, it's over there by the leg.
Starting point is 00:06:47 They roam. They roam. They go over here for a little bit. They go over there for a little bit. But bison in Kentucky, that's cool. The thing that will really blow your mind, though, is I want to tell you about the Trigg County Ham Festival. That's what they're famous for. They like their ham.
Starting point is 00:07:02 They like to party more so than anyone because it is the home of the world's largest country ham biscuit. The world's largest country. Shannon, they're claiming world's largest. Well, I mean, I feel like we can measure it. You know, we can tell you if it's, you know, it's something that's measurable. How big is it? Well, it's already been, they already have the plaque. it's official. This isn't like
Starting point is 00:07:24 an opinion thing. They're not just claiming Abraham Lincoln. This has been studied and confirmed. They make it every year, but generally it's about 400 pounds. 10 feet by 10 feet. One country ham biscuit. And they do it every year. Yes, they've been doing it for several years. The recipe
Starting point is 00:07:40 is 150 pounds of flour, nine gallons of buttermilk, six pounds of sugar, two and a half gallons of water, four cups of salt, three cups of yeast, and a score of the finest ham in the world. I don't know how long it would take me to eat that, but I'd like to find out. I love country ham biscuits.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Now, I have a question. I'm going to ask you. I don't know if you know the answer or not. Why is Cadus and Trigg County famous for their country ham? Like, everybody at the hand of the ham festival. But why is it, you think of country ham, the good country ham comes from Cadus? I guess it just started kind of, I'm not saying they invented it, but country ham's big in Western Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:08:17 I went to like a fancy restaurant in New York one time with some friends and opened the menu and they were like our country ham was flown in from western Kentucky this morning and I'm like I was flown in from western Kentucky this morning but it said on the menu Kate is Kentucky in this kind of fine restaurant in Manhattan so I don't know how it originated Webster County I feel like I've got some good ham too but we're good at our dry cured salty ham over there well that's why somebody's got to call and let us know maybe somebody from listening right now knows how did trig county and katis become the country ham capital of the world but let me tell you I don't want to take away from country ham, Ryan Lemon.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Yes. But if you were going to Cadas, that's not what you're getting to eat. What you get? You're going to Ferrells. Farrells. Yeah, we've been there. Didn't we go there? It's the second best Ferrells in the world, but it's a close second.
Starting point is 00:09:03 Okay. There's one in Madisonville. It's Top Dog. Grew up on that location. Sorry, Cates. Sorry, Hopkinsville. But if you're ever in one of those three, you go find Farrell Snappy Service. It's one of those places that's nearly 100 years old.
Starting point is 00:09:17 You get the flat burger that sits there its own grease, a little bowl of chili. It doesn't get better than a feralds mill. Maybe breakfast if you're there early. So they do like just breakfast and lunch? It's like your old type diner place. The people there have also been there 100 years. It's just one of those great old-timey dinners.
Starting point is 00:09:37 So as good as the country ham is, that's where you need to eat. Ferrells. In Trig County. Do you want to keep going? I don't want to just steal the show. No, we're learning about Trigman. We're going to talk about Arrowhead Golf Club. Tell us about it.
Starting point is 00:09:48 As a former high school golfer, I bogied many holes. at Arrowhead Golf Club, but it is a nice track out there in Tree County during the golf. I recommend checking it out. Their local sports, if I'm not mistaken, weightlifting is their big thing. The Iron Cat Classic. I remember not me because weights are too heavy. I want nothing to do with those, but a lot of my friends in high school would go to Trit County for meets and just get absolutely whooped in their powerlifting.
Starting point is 00:10:13 I think they've even got several state championships. Yes, they do. You said second region basketball? Yeah. 3A football, I think. Probably. Can we keep going? You need anything else?
Starting point is 00:10:23 Or just whatever you've got on your plate. I mean, I know you have a few. I don't want to take them. Well, there's, when you think of Trigg County, there's, in my opinion, two people that are famous people came from Trigg County. One of them is a musician named Boots Randolph. Have you ever heard of Boots Randolph? Have I? I forgot a good Boots Randolph story when you're done.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Okay. My Boots Randolph story is. Shannon, do you know who Boots Randolph is? No, I don't. He's a saxophonist that was a musician for like 50 years. He was the first big saxophonist, I think, besides Dizzy Gillespie that played all across the country. And back in the day when we all had eight-track tapes, you know, before digital music, there was CDs. Before CDs, there were cassette tapes.
Starting point is 00:11:10 For the cassette cassette tape, there were eight-track tapes. My parents had a Boots Randolph eight-track, and that's the one you hated for him to put in. It's him playing saxophone music I'm a kid I'm not going to hear that But the other choices were like the carpenters Frankie Valley Maybe Neil Diamond and Boots Randolph
Starting point is 00:11:29 You didn't want the Boots Randolph 8 track to be played While you're on a trip It's a great name though It is a great name But he's like was worldwide famous Traveled across the world playing his saxophone And a lot of these musical bands
Starting point is 00:11:42 The other guy You got okay you tell your Boots Randolph Story first Mine's not nearly as cool as that But I think it was Aaron Fleeter, a friend of the show. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was Fleanor. We were at Legends in Nashville, the bar at Bridgestone. I'm sure a lot of people familiar.
Starting point is 00:11:57 And they have all those old albums all over the wall. And for whatever reason, Boots Randolph jumped out at me. I didn't even know he was from Kentucky, but I was like, that's an awesome name. So the rest of the night, I introduced myself as Boots Randolph to everyone we met. And there was Slim Whitman record next to that. So he was Slim Whitman. So for a whole weekend in Nashville, we were Slim Whitman and Boots Randolph, having no idea who Boots Randolph was.
Starting point is 00:12:22 I was with you guys there. You were? It's such a good name. Yeah, it is. Yeah. I remember because, yeah, they took great pride in being Slim Whitman and you were Boots Randolph. Legend. Huge Boots Randolph, fan.
Starting point is 00:12:34 One great athlete we have to talk about from Trigg County, and it's Al Baker. Anybody who's my age knows the legend of Al Baker. when he was in high school at Trigg County High School, he was the strongest man, strongest kid in the state. Like you mentioned, their state power lifting, their state weight lifting. There's something going on with them in lifting weights over there. He won the state title, easily won the state title as the strongest man in the state. Then he went, he won the 100-meter, 100-yard dash back in that day at the state track meet.
Starting point is 00:13:05 He was the fastest man in the state and the strongest man in the state as a senior at Trigg County High School. comes to UK to play football had some injuries he had to deal with I think finally his senior year he was finally able to play under Coach Curry and was kind of productive but if you're my age you know the legend of Al Baker the highlight maker Absolutely great nickname too
Starting point is 00:13:28 Famer with him didn't know he was both the strongest and fastest At the same time That's trouble for the same time You look him up you see those stories like my goodness He looked like Charles Atlas You know he was just a massive man So we have anybody that wants to call in and help us on Trigg County, we'd like to hear from you. 859-2-8-8-7.
Starting point is 00:13:45 That's our phone number if you want to call and get on board, kind of play along and give us some fun facts. Maybe we missed or something we got wrong. We want to hear from you. Yeah, I loved profiling a county I know very well, like I said, didn't take much research. I hope I got everything right there and didn't miss any of the big ones. Land between the lakes and Lake Barclays, they're proud and joy. But I thought the bison thing was interesting. I didn't know we had bison in the bluegrass.
Starting point is 00:14:08 Let's put a little respect on Charles Tyler's name, too. Did you know he was also a saxophonist? No, I didn't know this. From there? From there? Yeah, you got a couple of saxophonists from there. They produced two big-time saxophonists. Yeah, he had, I think, a career from, let's see,
Starting point is 00:14:23 1960s all the way up to 2014. So I guess you have a choice to make in Trigg County when you're young. Do I pick up the dumbbell or do I pick up the saxophone or the country ham? Yeah. Or the country ham. There's also a ghost town in Trigg County that I found called Golden Pond. Do you know about this? Have you heard of that?
Starting point is 00:14:38 I've heard about it, but I don't know anything about the ghost lore there. I just heard a golden pun. It says it's now a site of the headquarters of land between the lakes, national recreational area. Let's see, established in the 19th century. It's became a moonshining activity. It's known for its moonshining activity during the prohibition era. And its area was altered in the 1930s by the Tennessee Valley Authority, which constructed dams to control flooding and generate electricity for a large. rural area and the TVA evicted the last residence of Golden Pond in 1969.
Starting point is 00:15:13 So no one has lived there since 1969. But they've got some moonshining. Well, they did back in the Prohibition era. Oh, okay, not today. I thought maybe still today. No, not today. You can get moonshine. You can pick that up anywhere.
Starting point is 00:15:25 You know, Trigg County is one of the counties we've not done a show from. I think Matt did during his book tour, but we've not done a show there. I think Channon just found our location for our show. We do in Trigg County. Well, what are we waiting for? I forgot another one. The Arrow Cats Archery Team won the World Championship in 2012. What are the Aero Cats?
Starting point is 00:15:46 Is that part of Trigg County High School? Someone from Trigg County sent me a DM and I copied it and pasted it in my notes to remember it, and then I lost their message. So I want to give them credit, but I cannot find who originally sent it. So that was a submission from whoever is out there from Trigg County. All right. Are they Trigg County callers? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:16:04 Let's try one. Let's see if they're a Trigg County caller. Jeremy. Jeremy, go ahead, Jeremy. Hey, Shannon. And Billy, what's going on? Jeremy McNutt from Paducah, Kentucky. Just real quick.
Starting point is 00:16:14 I kind of want to correct you. Now, most people around here call it Katie's. Like, I'm like more of, so not Cadiz, but Katie's. I don't know. Maybe it's both ways. The people that live there call it Cadus. Well, I live, you know, 30 minutes away, and I'm headed there right now to work. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Wait, say it again. I thought I was saying the same thing. He was saying KD's. Yeah. Kate is, right? Yeah. Yeah. Cady's.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Tomato tomato. But two things I want to add. All right. Harper House restaurant is one of the best restaurants, you know, in Western Kentucky, pretty cool venue. If you haven't been in the Harper House, and they use big grain bins is the building. It's pretty neat.
Starting point is 00:16:56 And then the other thing is... Wait a minute. It's in Trit County? It's in Cady's, yes. Okay. All right. Google it or look it up. You'll see.
Starting point is 00:17:04 But it's a great venue for anybody traveling by. And then also, stop. by Casey Jones. I know you just mentioned Moonshot. I'm a liquor rep. That's what I do. But Casey Jones has put themselves on a map. I think they're selling about seven or eight states now.
Starting point is 00:17:17 So that's all I got. I appreciate. Love the show, guys. Awesome. Thank you very much. Good phone call. Thanks for the addition. Trigg County knowledge.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Is the next caller from Trigg County, Shannon? I don't think so. Okay. But it is Bob. You want to talk to? Well, go ahead, Bob. Do we lose Bob? No.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Go ahead, Bob. Yes, I'm here. Hey, Bob. Sure. Western Kentucky is kind of a country ham haven down there. There's a lot of producers. That's right. And there's a farm that's noted as being one of the best, but you can't get his hands.
Starting point is 00:17:56 And Golden Pond is an entrance to the land between the lakes. And there's an 1850 working farm. smelter and the buffalo herd, elk herd is all in there. Awesome. Awesome. Well, we appreciate it, Bob. You better answer that phone. Somebody's calling you.
Starting point is 00:18:21 I'm trying to shut them off, but there's a country, a sugar-cured country ham, which y'all have never heard of. But you haven't had a ham and biscuit until you've had a sugar-cured country ham. Amen. Amen. Appreciate it, Bob. Thank you, buddy. Thanks to the phone, we got to take a break.
Starting point is 00:18:40 They appreciate it. 859-2-802-28-7. We need a caller from Trigg County. We're getting out of here. We're right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.

And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.

Starting point is 00:20:44 On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Lela Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on.
Starting point is 00:21:10 Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki. The ability to show gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning.
Starting point is 00:21:35 It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world,
Starting point is 00:22:04 he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? told Levan, you're ruining my life.
Starting point is 00:22:38 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. We're just talking moonshine. You can't have bourbon without moonshine. Check out the moonshine trail and follow me on Twitter at Shannon the dude for their Get Your Shine on giveaway. Each week I'm going to be posting a picture of a location on the moonshine trail.
Starting point is 00:23:34 Then one person who correctly names the location will get a $25. Amazon gift card. And the moonshine Trail from Lexington to Pikeville is more than just spirits. It's about the people who pour their hearts into the making of moonshine. Starting point is 00:24:02 You can check out all the different locations. They got Kentucky Mist. distillery, the Pauly Hollow Distillery, the Backwoods Moonshine Museum, and a whole lot more. Again, that's moonshine trill.com. Thank you, Shannon the dude. Join now here at KS. Bar and Grill by Drew Franklin and Super Mario Maitland, who jumps in now because Super Mario, you've got a big day today. What's the big day?
Starting point is 00:24:26 You're going to your first ever Mark Pope news conference today, right? I was going to say second ever, but yeah. Oh, is it the second one? I thought those were these first ones. Well, if you're counting Sunday, the Rupp Arena Sunday as a press camp. This is the first routine, part of the job, like, is, you know, part of the just regular. We're just media. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Just media. I'll be shadow and Drew, so he's going to show me around, so it's going to be fun. I'm excited for it. The hardest part of that will be teaching you how to park at the craft center, because that is anything over there, that is the biggest challenge you will face in this job. It is a learned skill how to park over there. Crazy you say that. I'm actually looking at the email about the parking. So, very, very interesting.
Starting point is 00:25:04 So you're going to ask you ask you ask you ask you a question. like you did on the opening big event I got a few questions lined up for coach Pope yeah I don't want to like ask too many questions but I have one or two questions that I want to ask them it's good to have guys like you that want to ask questions because every time I would go I just said that I didn't want to ask you for you I just sat in the back take my notes and like somebody cutler or Jerry Tipton or Rob Romney somebody's going to ask the questions I the info that I need I stopped asking questions once I realized asking a question did
Starting point is 00:25:32 nothing the the answer that was coming was a pre-planned answer that might have nothing to do with the question. John Wong will be there. He'll ask a couple questions. I bet it's a big turnout. I mean, like, you've had some appearances where he's taking them, like that Sunday in April and even at the Club Blue event last Saturday. But this is kind of the first, you know, official.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Yeah, you know, actual work, not just big events for the fans. This is a media thing. So are you getting dressed up or what are you going to wear? This is what I'm wearing? Are you, am I supposed to get dressed up? What am I supposed to wear a tie? Wow. I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 00:26:04 I'm wearing this. I pulled this out of the suitcase. I'm news as soon as you said that, you're wearing that. A T-shirt. I think each year my dress gets worse and worse. Early on, you know, I'm new. I've got a little fake briefcase that I only used at press conferences. I never did the tie, but I'm dressing up, tucking in shirts.
Starting point is 00:26:22 Now I'm like, I think I brushed my teeth today. I tell this story about Matt, and I've told it in front of him, so I'm not saying something behind his back. When he first started his website, and he started coming to the news conference when Tubby was coach at the time. He'd come in, he'd have a backpack, frumpy, just dressed off frumpy, shirt-tail hanging out and look kind of sloppy? Sloppy.
Starting point is 00:26:46 But then he was like you. He's like, he's asking these questions. And he's asking these good questions. Everybody's looking around like, who is this guy? Who is this guy? It looks like he just got out of bed asking these good questions about UK basketball. So we kind of developed a relationship then and then kind of blossom to, you know, stuff later.
Starting point is 00:27:04 But, yeah, Matt, he was like you back in the day. You know, young, go-getter, Cub reporter. What about Shannon? What did you wear to press conferences? I don't go to press conferences. I just watch them virtually. Well, yeah, they're all on, you know, you can get them online now, Zoom or whatever. Oh, Matt, you're using.
Starting point is 00:27:21 You don't even have to go anymore. We're going to be front and center for this one. For those that follow our YouTube, we're getting the rapid reaction band back together. Nice. After the press conference. You haven't done that in a while, but it is a big deal we're excited about it from Pope, obviously very busy times for him. They just started practicing recently.
Starting point is 00:27:38 He'll have a lot to cover. I'm sure there'll be a lot he can't even get to unless they're going to keep us there all day. Now, have any of you guys listened to him on the John Wall podcast yet? I didn't finish it, but I listened to a little bit of it. Well, I know there's a lot of good nuggets that came out of that. And the one quote I love the best where he said, I'm paraphrasing. He said something like, when we have a recruit in, I like to not take him at Rupp Arena of the floor. I like to go up to the top.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Yeah, isn't that cool? And just sit up there and just soaking in with them. I thought that was really cool. Drew, is he talking about the nosebleeds top, or is it just the lower level top? Because there's two different angles. I don't know if he's going all the way to the nosebleeds or if he's going to the lower level. I didn't hear this. I would assume the top top if you're going to soak it in.
Starting point is 00:28:20 He talked about banners, so I'm guessing. Yeah. Don't get there, touch him. Yeah. Let's be the nosebleeds. I just love the fact that it's just another sign that he gets it. He knows what it's like to be a Kentucky fan and to live it. He gets it.
Starting point is 00:28:34 I think I love to take away of him talking to John Wall and him talking about how he doesn't want to make him disappointed. He's like, I can't make you disappointed, man. Like, I'm not going to make you disappointed. I love that. I loved that. This wasn't in that interview. Wall's first episode of his podcast when Pope was first announced. You know, there's a little bit of fans wondering how many people kind of keep their attention with Cal at the other place or, you know, stay home.
Starting point is 00:28:58 John Wall was like, no, I'm from Kentucky. I'll root for Cal in Arkansas, but I'm a Kentucky Wildcat. I can't wait to meet to meet Mark Pol. I hope I have full access to the facilities to keep using them. I mean, it was no question for him right out of the gate, having never met the man, saying I can't wait to meet him. I hope I still have the opportunities I had under Cal. I thought that was a big kind of bonding that bridge, so to speak,
Starting point is 00:29:21 of maybe Cal's biggest star right away endorsing Coach Pope. I don't know about you guys, but do you think the players are kind of opening up to Pope a little bit more? I feel like when it first happened, they were kind of like, I'm going with Cal. like there's nothing that's going to change my mind but i feel like now they're kind of opening up the pope a little bit more i think so too and i think what drew was saying you may have heard it mariel john wall even kind of reiterated to pope hey i'm all in with you i'm all in i'm kentucky i'm gonna
Starting point is 00:29:47 you know i'll be there and you see kind of the older guys that pope generation coming back that maybe had been maybe didn't feel so welcome over the years i think you're right i think they're there are practices now yeah camera mills yes yeah cameron was there yeah talking to the team and They can love both and I expect them to, but I'm just glad that they're still saying Kentucky's home. I mean, of course they're going to support Cal and they should. That's their guy. But, you know, they're almost at their degrees from here. They're one-year degrees from here and they wore that uniform and we're in Lexington.
Starting point is 00:30:17 So it's good to see so many of them still sticking with it through the Popeye. We've got Super Mario sitting windows and we want to hear from you. 859-2-80-2287. Starting point is 00:35:12 Shannon's playing our whiskey thief song of the day. Darius Rucker. Again, wins it again. Did he win last week, too? Almost every day, I believe, yes. So it's one of these new ones right here. That's hooting the blowfish. I didn't know they had a country song.
Starting point is 00:35:25 Yeah. I knew that he, like, as a solo artist, was country. But this says hooting the blowfish, and it has, country is the category. You know, they're touring right now. So they got their new song, and so a little comeback for hooting the blowfish. I challenged you the other day. Did you go by and listen to any hooting the blocfish?
Starting point is 00:35:42 I did not. It wasn't high on the priority list. You've got to do the summer homework when Ryan assigns it. Who's this segment sponsored by, Drew? It is sponsored by our friends at Draft Kings. Ryan, you know UFC 303 is coming up. It's a big deal. We got a little Alex Pereira versus Yuri Proasca.
Starting point is 00:36:00 Okay. I said those right. Good. Pretty comfortable with saying them. Sounded right? Yeah, a little lightweight heavy title is on the line on the main event. But it can be even bigger at Draft King Sportsbook, the official sports betting partner of the UFC. As I said, the light heavyweight titles on the line.

You are correct. It's pronounced as if it has an S on the end. I graduated from Trigg County High School in 1973. Our football team won the state championship my junior and senior years. There we go. So I got some C-DIS connections. So there we go. 859-2-2-8-7. So Shannon, who we got? Start to Gary. Gary, go ahead, Gary. Hey, guys. I'm from Trigg County. Yes. Thank you. Yeah, you know, it's like Louisville. It's got some different pronunciations. I'll would say a lot of people do pronounce it, like the guy said.
Starting point is 00:37:33 Katie's kind of like the girl's name Katie, plural, but with a Z on the end, Katie's, Katie's. But anyway, yeah, Trigg was talking to football, and I got some information for you to give me a little time. Just make it quick. Trig County, as a matter of record, the Wildcats were the last Wildcat team to win a game on Stole Field. They won the state championship in 72, and UK moved to Commonwealth Stadium in the fall of
Starting point is 00:37:59 73. Oh, that's pretty cool. And Drew, your Madisonville team was losing the state championship in 71 and 72. Come on, Drew. But we have fun. I believe it was Brian Station and Tate's Creek those two years. Yeah, they cheated both of them. Trigg County beat Lynch in 71 and beat Pikeville in 72. That was the heyday for Trigg County Sports. They did go to the Sweet 16 a couple other times.
Starting point is 00:38:27 One time was 1970. the other time was, I don't know when it was. But listen, talking about the land between the lakes. Land between the lakes is bordered by Lake Berkeley and Kentucky Lake. Barclays formed by a dam on the Cumberland River. Kentucky Lakes formed by a dam on the Tennessee River. And most of the land that people down there, the old-timers call it between the rivers, most of that land was given to people for fighting in the Revolutionary War.
Starting point is 00:38:57 It was one of the few places in the U.S. where you had family farms going seven generations. And then when they formed the land between the lakes in the early 60s, the federal government came back in and took all the land away by the domain. I appreciate it. I appreciate the phone call. Good info right there. I knew there's some hard feelings about what happened down there when they dammed up those rivers and flooded the area for the make the lakes down there. I might do a little 4th of July down in that area this year. Yeah?
Starting point is 00:39:24 Scouted out now. Very cool. Might pop in the land between the lakes. So we got our Trigg County caller, which is good. So who's next, Shannon? Aiden. Aiden. Go ahead, Aiden.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Hi. I just want to tell you guys something. So me and my dad just started watching baseball, well, Kentucky baseball. Yeah. And we think it's, like, the best team to watch, and that's, like, so fun. And, like, we stayed up to, like, 12 o'clock in the morning just watching Kentucky. Well, that's awesome. Congratulations and welcome, welcome to the team.
Starting point is 00:40:00 Thank you. All right, thank you, Aiden. We appreciate it very much. A lot of fans, new fans, have come out to join UK baseball after what they did this season. Yeah, I mean, really all the games, but at the super's especially when they clinched, that was just so much fun, not just that they won and the baseball team's playing well. Just even in down times, it was just such a fun event to be at as a UK fan, whether it be you're dancing to their walk-up music or you're wearing the,
Starting point is 00:40:27 the pink hats or just socializing with Kentucky fans. It was just a fun atmosphere to be a part of. You're there two hours early, just counting down from them to come out and start throwing. Just being around fans. It was so fun up there on the hill. And I hope that the success continues so we can get more of those tournament runs in Lexington, too. I love that call. Aden basically was, that's what Coach Mngeon talked about. The experience is. That's exactly what that was. I think I love just hearing Aiden talk about him staying up at 12 o'clock and enjoying Kentucky baseball. That was pretty awesome. You were there.
Starting point is 00:40:58 You saw a lot of little kids there coming with their dads and their parents and enjoying the game. Yeah. It was a great experience. I'm going to miss that. I'm going to miss that. I like, it was on the show with Menn G. I was like, don't, no curfews.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Like, they're not going to remember looking at the back of their eyelids on a random Sunday or Monday night in June. He said, give them these experiences. It'll be okay. There are a lot of young kids out there and they won't remember that for a long time. Shannon, I got something for you. What you got? What if I told them?
Starting point is 00:41:26 you there's a guy named Cameron Dukes who's a former Lindsay Wilson quarterback who now starts for the Toronto Argonauts and is undefeated in the CFL. That's pretty awesome because when I was there we didn't even have a football team. That's right. Now they're like really good. They're like one in that. Then they win the national title, I think just a couple of years ago in their division. So are you proud of your Lindsay Wilson quarterback?
Starting point is 00:41:50 I am. I'm so proud I didn't even know about it until you told me just 10 seconds ago. But that is kind of cool, you know, coming from a small school like that and being able to have success at a different level. What if I told you he's from Bullet Central? That's still Bullitt County. Okay, okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:07 All right. I mean, you know, Bullitt East would have been a little bit better, but, you know, we can't all be perfect. We all have our flaws. All right. Just want to be sure. I know he's got that beef with Bullet Central and Bullet East. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:17 That's pretty awesome, though. Yeah, it is pretty cool. So congratulations to him. Go ahead. I've got some jealousy going on. at my computer. Yeah. The Florida Panthers party.
Starting point is 00:42:27 They're at the bar I was at. No, with the Stanley Cup, pouring it off the balcony. Last night. No, right now. Oh, right now. Yeah. And now they've moved it to the ocean across from the bar. The Stanley Cup is swimming.
Starting point is 00:42:39 I was standing right there last week when they were supposed to win it. The bar I was watching from is where they took the Stanley Cup trophy. You're missing out. I've got some foam-o going on. My Florida Panthers that I've liked for one week. If they just had pulled it out and won while you were there, you'd been right in the thick of it. They're at the middle of it. It is at the elbow room.
Starting point is 00:42:57 Just having some fun. So those, that was today, they're pouring the beer off the balcony. I'm watching it right now. Sun's up. Oh, my. Yeah, like I said, now they've moved it over to the water. KSR curse is real. It is.
Starting point is 00:43:08 They could have swept. Now, if they're getting in the water, I mean, you just got back from Florida. I'm going to the beach next week. They're like sharks all of a sudden everywhere. What's up with this? What is going on with that? I'm a, when it comes the ocean, I like to get out there in it. I'm a bit of a merman.
Starting point is 00:43:24 Abby, she's putting her ankles in, like this is deep enough. I'm like, that buoy out there, they say don't pass it, I want to be as close as that as possible. And she's got a video of me out there floating, and I'm thinking, the sharks are on the golf, we're fine, we get back in, go up to the room, there's a video of viral, real close to where we were of this huge shark, just going in and out of people. There were no injuries, luckily, but it is right in the middle of a crowded area. This is in Fort Lauderdale, Miami area?
Starting point is 00:43:48 This is in Miami. But, yeah, I mean, I had just been way out there not far from it, telling her it's fine. That was last week in the Gulf. Come on. But nope, the sharks are out. I don't know what's going on, but it's unsettling if you like getting in the water. Be careful when you go next week. Shannon, even like where we go on the floor to Panhandle, up and down the panhandle,
Starting point is 00:44:07 every day you go on social media, there's another shark side. I saw something about it in Hawaii, too, like an actor from Pirates of the Caribbean, the Caribbean, however you say it, was eaten by a shark just a couple of days ago. So it's everywhere. So if you were going, and you were about to, right? Yeah, I'm going next week. Be careful. Would you get out there?
Starting point is 00:44:25 I will get in it maybe up to my knees, maybe my waist, but I'm not going way out there like you were. I'm not going to do it. I don't think I would do it again now that I know it was in the same area I was in. But at the time, I was like, oh, that wasn't around here. And I don't know that I would go as far as I did. Something's going on. I don't know of, like, the shark food source is dwindling or what's happening. But it can't be a coincidence.
Starting point is 00:44:45 All these shark attacks are happening at once. Well, yeah. Sharknato. You guys know about Shark Nato? One through eight. I've read two different Terrorese career going Two different
Starting point is 00:44:57 Explanations are like you said The food chain that's forced them in Closer to try to find some food And the other one is climate change One of the two, maybe both of them I don't know what it is It's forcing them to know it But it's kind of crazy
Starting point is 00:45:08 And then I saw The folks You know San Diego has got some of the most Some of the most beautiful beaches in the country There's like They've closed the beaches for Like there's a raw sewage problem Like the sewage is like up and down the beaches and they've had to close them.
Starting point is 00:45:26 I mean, that's. I'd rather have the sharks. I think I would rather have the sharks. Yeah, I'll take my chances with the sharks over that. At least you can punch a shark. You're supposed to punch a shark in the nose. That's what they're saying. Or yell at a bear, but in the moment.
Starting point is 00:45:38 Oh, my goodness, my dad's here. Celebrating Tennessee Falls. Oh, look at him. I can't look at him. Mario, look at him for me. He's a big Tennessee fan. Who brought him? Is he leaving?
Starting point is 00:45:50 Is he going to stay around? I think he showed up my house yesterday. I didn't know you could wear as much orange. His sunglasses were orange. His pants were orange. His shirt was orange. I think he had his flag on his car. I can't, I can't do it.
Starting point is 00:46:01 He's waiting for it to happen. Yeah. Who's next, Sam? Let's get up another phone call. Let's go ahead, Will. Will. Hey, guys. First time caller, long time listener.
Starting point is 00:46:11 All right. Appreciate it. Ooh-ah. There you go. Just wanted to call in. Just give a little more briefly information on the powerlifting team from Trigg County. All right.
Starting point is 00:46:23 I was fortunate enough to lift for legendary pilot and coach Dixie Jones in several state times. In 1998, we were down. We didn't have a lot of lifters. We took 11 lifters up to the state powerlifting meet and won the overall state championship that year. So what is it? It wasn't about Trigg County and the power lifters.
Starting point is 00:46:47 It makes them this mecca of all? Well, it all goes back to starting them young. You could go take Dickey Jones' powerlifting class in seventh grade. And a lot of us started then or earlier. But there's one name that I want to mention. One of the state champions from that year and my brothers that we were in the Marine and we were together with. His name's Andy Dawson.
Starting point is 00:47:16 And I just wanted everybody in the state to hear his name. We lost them a few years ago. Awesome. But the United States Marines and the Kentucky State Powerliction from Trit County. Very good. Thank you. I'm glad you did that. Shout out to him as well.
Starting point is 00:47:29 So good job. All right. Well, take our break. Come back. Final break. Final segment coming up, 859, 2802-287. Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Mario. We'll be right back.

But with two kings from entirely different worlds, Just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life.
Starting point is 00:51:30 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:51:57 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Oh, no. Don't act like you don't love that song. Everybody loves Baby Shark. Still don't know why Kentucky played it when the count was too.
Starting point is 00:52:19 and oh. It was two and all. Everybody played it. People were dressing up as the sharks and in the stadium at this in the stand. Hey, get weird, right? Wow. Get weird. It works. Who we got? Who's our sponsor? This segment sponsored by our friends at cornbread hemp. A reminder that we're all in danger of losing our right to full spectrum CBD products like the ones made at cornbread hemp. And at this very moment, we talked also about prohibition groups for alcohol. This is a prohibition group trying to make cornbread hemp illegal and trying to reverse the 12. And trying to reverse the 2018 farm bill that made hemp legal, which means it would be recriminalizing a plant that we all depend on for a better quality of life. But the good news is we can all help. There's still time to act.
Starting point is 00:52:59 Go to cornbread hemp.com slash KSR. Click on the link to contact your members of Congress to let them know very politely that you would like to keep cornbread hemp legal. Again, that's cornbread hemp.com slash KSR to keep cornbread hemp legal paid for by cornbread hemp. A couple more notes from the aviages and glass text machine about Boots Randolph. I just saw. Boots Randolph played with Elvis on a couple of his songs. What was the song? Return to Cinder. He's a saxophone player on Return to Cinder. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:53:29 Yeah. And here's one. We've all heard it. Brenda Lee's rocking around the Christmas tree. They play every Christmas rocking around the Christmas tree. I know that song. Boots Randolph is a saxophone player on that song. Look at that.
Starting point is 00:53:40 How about that? There we go. Sometimes we get counties and we're trying our best. They just don't have it. Nothing against them. It could be beautiful landscape, but these fun facts they don't have. I feel like Trigg County. We've had plenty.
Starting point is 00:53:52 Powerlifting, country ham, boots Randolph, and Al Baker. Al Baker, the Highland Baylor's. Don't you forget Ferrell's. Somebody also on the text machine said, Avisional Glass Tech Machine, Ferrell's is better at 2 in the morning. Oh, yes. I have some stories from there for another time about going to Ferrell's late at night.
Starting point is 00:54:09 All right, 859-2-287. We got a caller. Who got, Shannon? Bob is good to see you the other day. We were down there at Mike's Landing, Sulfur Creek Resort. Yeah, good seeing you guys, Friday. You know, I'm a Pisces, so I can't keep up on this shark business. It seemed like it's a real common occurrence during a full moon.
Starting point is 00:54:31 There's more shark attacks. I don't know what is the lunar deal to get some started up. But it seems like when it occurs at a full moon, you'll see the horizon shark attacks. We did have a full moon, right? We did, because we had the moonbowls. The strawberry moon. When Falls was a moonbow. Yeah, that surfer got it out there in California, well-known surfer.
Starting point is 00:54:54 Like I say, you got it. During a full moon, keep your shark made out. There we go. Appreciate it, Bob. Good to hear from you. And watch out for dogmen and werewolves. We now know what happened to JT's phone. Bob got it.
Starting point is 00:55:06 He inherited it. Bob got J.T.'s phone. A couple more little baseball notes we've got. If you want to call real quick, we'll try to squeeze you on 859-2-802-287. I think it was the Rockies, and I forget who they were playing, but the bases were loaded, bottom of the night, scores tied. Do you know this story, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:55:25 Yep. Okay, follow me. Scores tied. Bottom of the night. It was the Rockies and who was it, Shannon? Rockies and somebody. I mean, teams really don't matter in this story. Nationals?
Starting point is 00:55:37 Was it the National? I believe it was the Nationals. Rockies Nationals. They called a pitch clock violation, which thus was a ball for. which walked in the winning run. The winning run was scored on a pitch clock violation. See, this is why I was against the pitch clock to begin with
Starting point is 00:55:59 is because I knew it was only a matter of time before this would happen. And then can you imagine Game 7 World Series bases loaded, bottom of the 9th? Sorry, time ran out. World Series is over. Could you imagine something like that happening? I mean, it's possibility. I mean, I know the Empire probably shouldn't have called it, But everybody sees the pitch clock.
Starting point is 00:56:19 They've got it like in two or three different locations at the stadium. Everybody saw it. Everybody sees the clock go out. I mean, basketball, you miss buzzer beaters all the time by a second. The clock's right there. It's on the rules. I know it's different. Pitchers probably their body clocks aren't used to it yet.
Starting point is 00:56:36 But if that's the rule and it's counting down, as you're saying, everybody can see it. I don't know what you're supposed to. You don't just ignore the rule there. You can't. They had to call it. But it's all in the pitcher. The pitcher could have seen it. Yeah, that's what I mean.
Starting point is 00:56:48 It's sports. We have clocks in sports, and you have to make your play before it gets to zero, and he did not. Now, I got another one that's worse than that. This is the Vermont State Baseball Championship in Vermont. Bases loaded. Ball four. The score's tied. By the last inning, bases loaded, ball four.
Starting point is 00:57:08 They're going to win the game. It's a ball four walk. We're going to walk in the winning run. The dude is at bat. Instead of going to touch first base, went. to the first base in foul territory and start celebrating with these teammates. They called him out for going out of baseline. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:57:26 It's a little more of a judgment call. Before, and somebody even finally kind of telling him, you got to go touch first base too late. They already called him out because he went in front of the dugout and is jumping up and down and celebrating the state championship and they called him out. Rules are rules. And then they end up losing an extra innings that team did.
Starting point is 00:57:43 After there was, Wall 4 walked in the winning run, they lost in the extra inning. You know what that reminds me of, Ryan? That reminds me of, I think we were talking about it a few weeks back where it was in basketball and it was the last second shot in, this was in the younger league. They had the last second shot and then the ref called it travel or something like that. I don't know if you remember that, but it's kind of similar to that.
Starting point is 00:58:05 It's very similar. All right, everybody, again, kind of our what's on deck, Singo tonight here at KS Bar and Grill. I'll be here. I'll be here. Drew will be here. I'm going to name all the tunes. tomorrow we got Tom Hart sitting in
