Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Now here's Matt Jones.
Hey, what's up, everybody?
Tom Hardin from Matt Jones.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Hey, real quick, tell Mario he can't use that thing I just did on the Zoom.
Okay?
Do not put that on top.
Understood.
I really understood.
I am in Atlanta, Georgia.
where it is boiling hot once again today.
Ryan is in studio in Lexington.
Is Drew with you?
I am here.
I am present.
Okay.
Drew is off camera.
Whoever chooses to set up a Zoom with all the respect and put Ryan in the shot and
Drew not,
probably we need to rethink that.
He's wearing a free t-shirt with my lord,
the pit stains on that thing.
Do you hear of deodorant?
That's not pitch stains.
Well, maybe it might be.
That is.
It's 10 a.m.
Ryan, how do you have pit stains?
Hey, I've been up since seven.
I've been, I'm a mover and a shaker this morning.
Oh, my gosh.
Oh, my gosh.
That is, that is, you might need to see a doctor.
Like, unless you just ran a marathon, you may need to go see a doctor.
Shannon, the dude is back in Louisville?
Am I missing anybody who?
Am I missing anybody who?
Is Mario with you guys?
No, he's at a big bracket reveal for the TBT tournament.
He's going to give us the, the, the deets a little bit later in the show.
And he went to his first press conference yesterday, right?
He did.
even asked a question.
I mean, it was kind of the Mario show in there for a little bit.
Very proud of him.
That is really a big deal.
All right, so we got a lot going on today.
Obviously, the draft is tonight.
Two Kentucky guys going in the lottery,
we're going to talk a lot about Reed.
I mean, what an amazing leap to go from where he was
to where he's going to be tonight.
He threw out the first pitch at the Yankees' Mets game last night.
Yeah.
He is just getting ready to take the world by storm.
if he hasn't already.
Big picture draft conversation.
I mean, we'll get into Reed and Rob, obviously plenty.
But in addition to that, Fran Frasilla,
who knows the international players like nobody else in basketball
is going to join us at the bottom of this first hour.
Got to give us his take on the draft,
what he thinks about the Kentucky guys,
but what he thinks about the draft overall.
Guys, I'm in Atlanta.
They have the number one overall pick.
There is zero buzz in this town.
Wow.
the NBA draft zero and I don't think it's because people don't like the hawks I think generally you'd be
excited about the number one pick but there is no Zion there is no like there's no like clear cut
this guy's going to be a superstar there's no victor rambanama so I think all that needs to be
kind of broken down what else we're going to do today um we're going to talk about the scariest
what what are we doing you tweeted it out didn't you Ryan what you well you you're
put it in your game notes, scariest amusement parks. So I thought you're...
Scariest amusement park rides because we had one as a kid I went on that still terrifies
me to this day. And Mark Pope had his big press conference yesterday. So Drew, what was your
biggest takeaway? Like what did we learn about Kentucky basketball yesterday that we didn't already
know? We had a lot from Pope yesterday with so much going on. He talked for almost 30 minutes.
If you're online, you know that the biggest takeaway is he had cookies.
I know that has been played up more than it should have,
but they were the most photographed cookies in the history of Kentucky basketball
because if there were 40 people there, all 40 of them took a picture of the cookies
that Pope provided for the media.
I was just a refreshing touch for his first press conference.
But for the other stuff, they had just finished their sixth practice.
He didn't reveal a whole lot of what's going on there.
They're installing his system, but I found it interesting.
He said that Jackson Robinson will already interrupt
him and tell guys, hey, this is what he means.
You know, you're supposed to do this.
And he's already kind of taking a leadership role and explaining things there.
But overall, it was just really good to hear him.
He told his draft story from 96 when he got picked and Rick Petino was on the set
saying he was holding his rosary for 10 picks, hoping Pope would go and he went at the end of
the second round.
That was a fun story to hear.
But overall, it was just refreshing to hear from Mark Pope again.
He's been a busy man, but we're going to get used to hearing him in those press conferences
more regularly.
I tell you one of my big takeaways yesterday with Mario.
at the basketball tournament unveiling today.
We'll have the TBT information later in the show.
We're going to weigh tickets, I think,
and we're doing that whole thing.
Is it the current team is going to practice against the La Familia team?
I've never heard of that.
That's amazing.
I mean, I've heard about alums coming through and getting some run in
and playing in the summertime.
But, Ryan, that seems like a big deal.
That seems like a really cool scenario.
Like, you could sell tickets to that and sell out rough.
I love this idea.
And for the guys on the TV,
team, it's going to make them feel like they're still a part of the program.
They're still in the family, so to speak.
So you're right.
I want to go.
I want to watch that scrimmage more than I do maybe a TBT game to see these guys play
our current players.
I think it would be an awesome event.
Yeah, that's really cool.
The players on the law familiar that are the roster as it stands, Eric Bledso, Daniel
Orton, Lamb, T, Cahley, Young, Andrew Harrison, Rick Travis, Nate Sistina, Kell and
Grady.
there's some, not only is there some talent,
but there's some big dudes who can bang on that squad.
Like there's some size inside.
I like that it also just keeps the bridge going.
You know, there's, we don't want a Calipari player divide the NBA thing into the Pope era.
I love that we talked a little about this yesterday,
but all the Calipari guys, there are already,
a lot of them met Pope, they're reaching out and then having 12 former Cal guys that were
NBA stars practice against them.
I just, I like that they're keeping that connection going.
That's really cool.
and the advice that they have to those guys
about what they've experienced as pros, I think,
is immeasually valuable.
Speaking of which,
tonight is night one of the NBA draft.
It is now two nights.
Apparently, it used to be two nights like years ago,
back before I remember it ever being two nights,
but it is now two nights.
Shannon, do we need two nights of the NBA draft
or is this overkill?
Yeah, I feel like it's overkill.
I feel like you can do it in one night,
but I guess it gives us something to look forward to.
It's the summer.
there's not a whole lot going on unless you're a baseball fan.
What else are you going to watch sports related on a summer night?
So, you know, I'm okay with it, I guess, going to two nights.
Maybe gives them a chance to get more advertising, make more money.
That's what it's all about, right?
Drew, he said baseball fans like it was an insult.
I mean, I got to see the Braves.
I love baseball.
I'm a huge Braves fan as is Drew.
But I feel like there's less and less of us that exist.
Well, that might be the case.
I can't even watch Braves games at my home here in Atlanta
because of the Comcast to speak.
So that's a different story.
Drew, what are you looking forward to?
Go ahead, Ryan.
Well, you mentioned it, but we do want to hear about your Braves experience last week
when you were doing the Braves game.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, that's why I had to miss the show because we had a day game Wednesday.
It was Braves and Tigers.
So I was in the booth with Joe Simpson for three games.
It was awesome.
Radio, like, whether it's this show or games,
radio is so simple and dare I say easy relative to TV
where there's like a bunch of cooks.
in the kitchen and there's 50 people in the truck and you have advanced meetings, not and stuff.
Our advanced meeting for this show is a text with some very inappropriate images that Ryan
said last night. I noticed nobody responded to because nobody. Nobody's responded to that.
No, plausible deniability is though I'm not a lawyer. I didn't go to Duke law school.
Plausible deniability. Just ignore it. No, it was a lot, it was a ton of fun.
Awesome. I knew from my TV time.
you know talking with brian snicker a little bit of time in the clubhouse and i don't know man
they're just something of what i love about my job just as much as anything is being in a ballpark
or an arena when it's basically empty gates aren't open nobody else is there a lot of the media
hasn't even shown up maybe there's some guys down on the field getting some early work in but the
peacefulness of a major league stadium when you're just in there getting some work done
And you look out at this incredible workplace.
Like that is just so cool to me.
That was a lot of fun.
And Drew, your Braves are playing well.
Yeah, I was Shannon.
Our Braves, that's what I was going to bring up.
Before you did that series, we were kind of in a bad spot, a little bit of a funk.
Wasn't that a sweep that you called?
How do we get you for every game?
Yeah, get you on the team playing.
We need you everywhere if you're going to be the magic that's going to get us Braves back on the winning track.
Shannon, 3 and 0.
I mean, that's pretty big deal.
That's awesome, man.
You lived out like a childhood fantasy of mine to be able to call a game with Joe Simpson.
I mean, you know, if you're a Braves fan, you grew up watching TBS.
You know, Joe Simpson, Don Sutton, Skip Carey, all those Pete Van Waring, you know.
A lot of those guys have already passed on, but that's a cool opportunity that you had to call a game with Joe Simpson.
So one of the coolest, I'm glad you brought that up.
One of the coolest moments I had when I was working TV for the Braves was I think it was John.
They put John Smolton of the Braves Hall of Pain.
Pete Van Weren
emceived the event.
And I was walking down to the field
before the game and I was in the tunnel
and here comes Pete Van Weren
walking the other way.
And I stuck up my hand
and I introduced myself
and said I'm a huge fan
of your work.
And he goes, come on, Tom, I know who you are.
And it was like I was in the big leagues.
It's awesome, man.
You don't have to introduce yourself.
That is awesome.
But here's a funny story about what happened
in the booth.
So in the Braves Radio
booth. They've got some really cool paraphernalia up, you know, some championship stuff here and there,
whatever. And on one sidewalk are cardboard cutouts of Skip, Pete, and Don. And Joe Simpson was telling
me the story that just a week earlier was Ernie Johnson's seniors would have been his 100th
birthday, the dad, Ernie Johnson Jr., who both played for the Braves and broadcast Braves games
for a number of years. And they were talking about, Benningham was talking about Ernie Johnson's
100th birthday and the cardboard cut out of skip fell off the wall.
Like it's haunted, right?
Yeah, a little signal.
He's right there.
They're here and they're listening and they're still a part of this.
And it was a fun story.
So the third game of the series, in between innings, I was telling Joe a story that I think
I told you guys before.
It's not really an on-air story, but it was one of the biggest flubs I had occurred.
my first night on the air calling minor league baseball.
And it came about because I had listened to the Braves game on my Walkman on the bus ride
to Charleston, South Carolina before this game.
And Skip said, you know, Chipper got jammed.
And Pete explained it with two seamer ran in on his hands.
And I matched those phrases together and it came out to something very inappropriate.
And I told that story in between innings off air.
The next half inning begins and we're like a battering.
into the inning and Pete falls off the wall.
Oh.
Oh.
Yeah.
It's sending you a signal.
Be careful little, Tommy.
Well, I think it was a signal that like they're listening.
They're around.
They'll always be part of that.
Yep.
And it's cool to be part of that history.
Hey, I was listening the other day and you did the newlywed game.
Yes.
Did you hear that with Billy and Shannon?
I thought it was great.
So I thought there's a lot that I don't know about you guys.
and there's a lot that you don't know about me.
So when we come back,
let's play the love connection with some Tom Hart details.
What do you think?
I love it.
I love this idea.
Yeah.
Give me a minute to jot down some of my questions.
No,
no,
I have the questions.
Oh,
you have the question.
I thought we were,
oh,
we're the contestants.
He's the host.
I got you.
Yes.
All right.
Tom came prepared.
One hundred percent.
Show prep.
The only question,
we'll go to break here.
a second is what what prize does the winner get so we'll think about that during a break i got to think
like maybe something from my prize closet right like maybe this royals towel or a university
miami hat those are all terrible ideas but we'll think of something the golden tea machine behind
your shoulder with the golden tea machine there's no there's no chance you're getting my golden team
just stop right now no chance uh shanan can i go to break now let's go to come back let's do all right let's go to
break, we'll play Love Connection or
newlywed game or Price is Right or whatever
we want to call it when we return. You're listening to Kentucky

Life throws hurdles big and small.
The question is, how do you conquer them?
On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them
and the mindset that keeps them going.
From the WMBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki.
The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me.
And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.

Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days I'd put on 10 pounds, I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

That is just the perfect, absolute perfect soundtrack to this.
Ryan, you've been the emce for this before.
How do we play the newly wet game?
Well, you have to introduce your participants first, you know, the flowery, you know.
joining us now from Atlanta.
He's tall.
He's single.
He likes Domingo.
He's Tom Hart.
Something like that.
Whoa.
That was really good.
That was impressive.
On the fly, that was good.
That was really good.
Okay.
I picked out a few questions.
The first one, you guys probably don't know the answer to.
But I think every other question I have here, I have shared with you as a group at some point since I've known.
Either one and I've guest host.
or we've hung out or whatever.
I think I've shared all of this information with you at some point, okay, except for the first one, but I'll get to it.
Okay, so I'm going to go kind of chronological life order.
Okay, number one, who's born in Columbia, Missouri, that res-Columbia is in a county that shares the same name as a county in Kentucky.
Ryan, you go first.
What is that county?
I'm going to go with Washington, Tom.
Drew, what is the name of the county that also shares a county name with a county in Kentucky?
I will say Hart County.
That is a great guess.
That is incorrect.
Once you hear the name of it, you'll be like, oh, yeah, that makes perfect sense.
Shannon, what is the name of the county I was born and that also is the name of a county in Kentucky?
Let's see.
It's got to be something that's common, so a bullet is out.
Let's see, maybe Ryan said Washington.
I'm just going to guess Boone County.
Oh, what?
No way.
Is that right?
Yeah.
Once again, Shannon's going to be accused of cheating looking up on the Google machine.
He pulls stuff out of his rear sometimes like that.
just amazes me.
I mean, Daniel Boone spent some time like everywhere.
Like that makes sense, right?
There's probably.
Wow.
Okay.
Drew, you'll go first.
And this one, you're probably, no, no, no.
Sorry, I'm going to go.
Who's the biggest NASCAR fan in the room?
Not me.
He's in Italy right now, I think.
Okay.
I'll go first.
I'm not afraid of little NASCAR.
Bring it.
I don't know to turn left or right,
whatever way they turn.
Okay, that's fine.
A lot of left turns.
I went to high school with.
a now retired NASCAR driver who was named one of NASCAR's top 75 greatest drivers.
This guy was really good, but he retired at an early age.
Who was that driver?
Jeff Gordon.
Oh, he's a little bit older than me.
Yeah, I was going to say it's way too old as soon as I said it.
It's a fair guess.
Who's up next?
Are we just keeping the same order going?
Okay.
Sure.
I'll go.
Shannon.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, same order. Shannon. Shannon's up.
Well, there's only a few NASCAR drivers that I even know, so we'll start there.
Let's see. I'm going to guess Carl Edwards.
Yes.
What?
What is going on?
He's cheating.
We can't save you from the cheating allegation.
How am I cheating?
He can't pull out Boone and Carl Edwards back to back.
I didn't think you can name a NASCAR driver.
driver.
Who is this Shannon?
Delarnard.
Shannon goes last.
For now on Shannon, Shannon goes last.
Maybe that gives him too much time to look it up.
That it's it.
Wait a minute.
You're telling me you can Google that.
Tom Hart.
What high school he went?
I'm going to try to Google it right now.
I'll see what it comes up with.
You could do NASCAR drivers from Missouri.
That's pretty easy.
Okay.
Then I'll tell you what.
If you guys don't want me to play, I just won't play.
No, I just feel like we're playing Phanos over here.
I don't have a chance.
Okay, we've got to keep it moving because we've got for show at the bottom of the hour to talk NBA draft.
All right, Drew, baseball question.
Oh, great.
Let's keep the original order.
Ryan, Drew Shannon.
Okay.
Ryan, baseball question.
I call double a baseball for the Cardinals.
The battery for the first game I called featured Rick Ankeel on his way back from his major league meltdown, throwing to an 18-year-old catcher.
Who was that catcher?
Oh, I think I remember you talking about this.
I think I remember you.
Go, Ryan.
I'm trying to, I'm a Cardinal fan.
I can't think of a.
You've got to, you cannot miss this one.
Yeah, you, he's talking about this, I think a couple of times on the show.
I don't know.
Someone's going to guess Yadi, Yadi Molina.
Boom, right, dang.
Yeah.
All right.
Yeah.
I thought he was too old.
All right.
Moving on.
one of my first network jobs,
I called football
with a former player
who's now an athletic director
in the SEC.
Oh.
Who was it?
Ryan, you go first.
Well, it's not Scott Strickland.
It's not Greg Byrne.
It's not Mitch Barnhart.
That's the only ones I know.
So I'll go with John Cohen.
I don't...
No.
John Cohen was not a...
football analyst.
But.
Oh, I thought you said baseball.
I was thinking around.
No, no, no.
We're on football.
All right.
A lot of hints out there for Drew.
Drew.
Yeah.
He already eliminated half the SEC.
I was just a second.
I think Ryan just named every athletic director I can name.
Me too.
That's all I know.
Who's the Texas one?
I don't know.
I don't have an answer.
Dot Conti.
That's your guess?
Sure.
All the other ones I know didn't play football.
I've talked about this before.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think it was like the Texas A&M guy.
What is his name?
He's cheating.
I'm not cheating.
Is that typing?
He's 100% cheating.
I'm not typing.
I hear typing.
You don't hear anything.
You hear a newlyway game music.
Hear that?
That's you doing that.
Uh-uh, that's Shannon.
No.
It's the Texas A&M AD.
Albert's.
Got it again.
There's no way.
We know Shannon the dude.
He cannot name the Texas A&M athletic director.
Not a chance.
No way.
Not a chance.
No way.
Okay.
All right.
Sounds like sour grapes to me, Tom.
I don't know.
These guys are sore losers.
They're sore losers.
Yeah.
Absolutely right.
Bonus question.
That network was called CSTV
College Sports Television.
It had a mascot.
The mascot was an animal.
Ryan,
You go to me first because they're going to accuse me of Googling since I go last.
Okay. You got Shandah go first.
I know CSTV very well.
The mascot was a unicorn.
This is unbelievable.
I don't Google that.
I did not Google that.
So eat it.

I know Tom Hart.
Okay, I told this story.
I've told this story before.
A brief background.
I was once arrested in Mexico.
But then I got bailed out by a stranger.
What government entity was that stranger an agent of?
What government entity was that stranger in agent?
Sounds like.
something you could easily Google.
Yeah. No, this story has not been
publicized. It's been discussed,
but it's never been written about.
This is like, the entire
story, which I told, I think the first
year I guess hosted was... I remember the story.
Yeah. Yeah, it's like pineapple express. Like, it's an
unbelievable. I only got about a minute.
I'll go first. I'll go first. Okay.
Was it the ATF?
Very close, but no.
Thought I remember that one. Go. I'll go as a CIA.
Not a bad, not a bad guess, but incorrect.
So you've eliminated two for me.
I'm going to, I'm going to guess the DEA.
Yes.
I got bailed out for the D.E.A.
Who later operated the biggest drug busts in the history of Boone County.
But you guys knew that part of the story.
Okay, final one.
30 seconds, got to go fast.
I was once at a funeral.
I got a cost of mispronouncing this Kentucky basketball player's name.
who was that Kentucky basketball player
Wukosh orbsu? No, you guys
remember this one. Come on, Drew, you got this one.
Repeat the question, quickly.
I was once accosted a funeral for mispronouncing
a Kentucky basketball player's name. He's still
in the NBA. Who was that player?
Taller hero.
No, no. Everybody knows.
It was Bam out of bio. Everybody remembers.

Oh, that was such a good segment.
What is so funny about it?
Who gave him the laughing gas?
What is wrong with you?
Because he's such a big cheater.
What do you mean I'm a cheater?
Just because you guys don't listen to Tom.
He's told all these stories on the air before.
Clearly, you don't listen to the guy or you would have known the answers.
I feel disrespected.
I really do.
I mean, you, I'm trying to develop this relationship, Ryan,

Thank you, Tom.

There's so many.

Travis, Travis, Travi G says Shannon is never beating these Google allegations.
Never.
No.
I don't know how you could Google those things.
Well, you found a way.
You think I had access to the dark web that has all the Tom Hart's information.
I can just Google at any time.
Yeah, listen, like the unicorn thing, that is not easily findable.
Yeah, I found it immediately.
When I was making the questions, I double checked.
I was like, wait, was it really a unicorn?
And I had to go like way down the Google page to find it.
The only person who would be better is our guy,
Corey Price who's out there tweeting out my
senior year high school picture.
And how he has access to all of my stuff is
like scary.
Oh, that one day he tweeted out pictures of
from your yearbook where you were on the
debate team or the speech team
or the the fellowship of Christian
athletes team or the basketball team.
You had all these pictures of you in all these different
organizations and in the lunchroom, goofing off.
Amazing.
I mean, it's what you can find.
What he can find is next level.
Okay, we're trying to get,
we're trying to get Fran on to talk draft.
It's going to be a big night for Reed Shepard and the Shepard family.
It's going to be a big night for Rob Dillingham.
I'm really excited about this evolution in my mind of Reed Shepard as now a guy
just going to become a household name nationally, right?
Obviously, he is within the Commonwealth.
But I remember early in the season, it was a St. Joseph's game.
And I was familiar with Reed's high school experience.
but not how good he was or how athletic he was.
And I was talking with Billy Lang, who's the head coach at St. Joseph.
And this was before the game.
This was before Reed played against him.
And obviously, college coaches see all these guys come through the circuit.
They see him on the recruiting trail.
So he was familiar with him.
And I brought up a couple of comps to Billy.
And I think I discussed this during the game, but I may not have.
And I said, listen, you were an assistant with the Sixers for a long time.
And you saw T.J. McConnell.
and you coach JJ Reddick.
And I know it's easy to go like white guy to white guy comp,
but with our eyes,
it's just something that a lot of sports fans do.
Whether it's right or wrong, I don't know.
But that's how my brain works a lot of times.
Give me a small, smallish guard,
and how does he match up with those two guys?
Yeah.
And Billy, like, started laughing.
He's like, dude, he's way more, way more.
Because I asked him, I said, could he play point guard at that level?
And he's like, he's way more athletic, T.J.
in common way more and he's probably just as good a shooter right now as j j reddick was at this
point and that blew my mind like that was the first inclination like okay this guy's way better
than i thought drew what do you think happens tonight and how does we just had a trade the
rockets just made a trade yesterday there may be more trades coming um rockets have the third pick
that's where many assume read is going to go
all the mocks. How do you view it?
I've been thinking that for a long time.
We heard from just Rocket fans or Rocket Scouts that be it games that they're interested
in read in the middle of the season.
It's been very heavy read to Rockets even after the year.
The latest projections have Reed to the Rockets.
I think barring another trade, there's even today talking more trading and kind of
Durant blowing up everything.
But as long as Durant doesn't blow up what they're doing at number three, I don't think,
I don't think Reed gets past them.
I really don't.
I'm excited for him, too.
As much as I want to see him go to the Spurs,
if he did drop to four, I'd love that too.
I just Reed being a top three pick.
I think that's a good spot,
and that's kind of what I'm counting on tonight.
Why do you think the Spurs would be a better fit?
Because that's what I'm hearing you say,
even if you didn't exactly.
Well, I don't know if it's a better fit for Reed.
It's the Wimby thing.
And just selfishly, I'm going to be a fan of wherever Reed goes.
Same with Rob.
It could be Rob to the Spurs.
But one of the two, I want to be the future with Wimby
in that little one, two, there.
Right now, a lot of teams have Yukon, or excuse me, the Spurs taking Castle at number four.
I want that to be a Kentucky player.
Yeah.
Ryan, where does it anticipation for Reed's draft night, where does it fall in terms of like recent Kentucky basketball history and other other draft nights for individual players, not groups, not the years where you have five dudes going in the first round?
Like, I get it. That's exciting. That's, that's, that's, that's a lot of, it's a lot of guys, right?
But in terms of read going as high as number three, what do you think that excitement level is like relative to other previous drafts?
Well, it's, it's, it's obviously sky high because he's obviously a Kentucky kid. He's a mountain kid played in the 13th region.
His parents both played here. You know, he's got all that backstory behind it. So to answer your question, I know, maybe 20,
15 when Carl went number one and all those guys were going to get drafted or maybe
Anthony Davis in 2012 and there may have been as much excitement as there is tonight,
but there'll be more people in Kentucky watch the draft tonight than maybe they ever have
just because he is, he's a Kentucky kid.
He grew up a Kentucky fan.
He got all these pictures of him getting his autograph with his former DeMarcus cousins
and some of these guys.
So I think there'll be more Kentucky people watch the draft tonight than ever before.
He's taking a lot of people with him to the draft.
I mean, the 13th region, the whole state of Kentucky.
People are just his mom catching that first pitch last night.
The Mets game, that was so awesome.
Like, there's so much more invested in the Shepherds than most players that come through here.
That's how I view it.
There'll be a lot of different ways to watch a draft tonight,
at the least of which is on Stadium.
Fran Fraschilla, who covered the draft for years for ESPN,
is now doing it for Stadium.
Is with us on the phone now.
Fran, thanks for being with us, man.
I know you've got a really, really busy days.
We'll try to get you in and out as quickly as possible.
Kentucky basketball, a big deal.
We're talking about Reed Shepard and Rob Dillingham.
How do the NBA teams view read in terms of what his upside is?
Well, I think, Tommy, he's just analytically speaking.
He's the best shooter in the NBA draft in quite some time.
It's incredible the year he had and the efficiency with which he shot the ball.
And then he's shown that he's an athlete.
He's shown that certainly off the ball defensively.
He's got great awareness.
And, you know, now in a normal draft, and this goes for everybody that's going to go into top 10,
including both Rob and Reed, you know, these guys probably would be pushed down a little bit.
But because this is such an unusual draft with so much uncertainty,
obviously Reed is going to hear his name called very high and possibly as high as three to the Rockets.
The comparison I've had from people is Mark Price, who was a great player for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
you know, a T.J. McConnell, but he's a much better shooter.
And so I think Reed's going to be a happy man tonight because he's going to go up, you know,
certainly in the top 10 and maybe as high as...
It's interesting to bring up McConnell.
I talk with Billy Lang about McConnell during the course of the season earlier this year.
He was an assistant on that Sixers staff.
And he just kind of laughed and he's like, oh, Reed Shepherd is way more athletic than McComb.
Way more athletic.
Yeah, yeah.
Some of the numbers prove it.
Yeah, and he's a better shooter.
There's no question.
It's hard to find a kid that's coming into the league that's put up to shooting numbers anyway that Reed did this year.
What teams like about Reed, and I talk to people about him, is it's not just catch and shoot.
It's off the dribble.
He's great in transition, hitting the pull-up, pop-up three off the break.
He comes off screens and make shots.
I think that it's passing.
I know if you're a Kentucky fan, you'll say, well, he's a great passer.
No, in the NBA, because of his size, there's going to be some length issues he'll have to deal with and adjust to, just like Steve Nash had to.
I go back and talk about Mark Price 30 years ago, but Reed certainly can give the ball up, but I think pick and roll passing will be something that he's going to have to get better at.
Now, he didn't have a ton of reps this year, in part because he and Rob came off the bench.
But there's a lot to work with there.
And in the NBA, when you have a shot maker like that, it really opens up the floor.
And I think, you know, this is a, you know, probably unexpected problem that Kentucky had this year
is that nobody expected Reed to be a one and done.
And it's going to be a great night for the Shepard family.
Fran Fraschilla is our guest.
He's covering the draft tonight for Stadium.
We're on Kentucky Sports Radio.
And Fran, you mentioned size with Reed.
I think the one knock, the reports on Rob Dillingham is that he came in.
as many guys do, shorter than what he was listed at throughout his one year at Kentucky.
How does that impact his draft stock and his potential as an NBA score?
Yeah, minimally, Tom.
I'd say that in sneakers, he's 6'2.
You know, that's what I remember from my notes.
And that means that what I, well, let's say what I, first of all, I honestly think Rob Dillingham might be inch
for inch, the most skilled player in this draft. I really believe that. At six foot two,
his speed, his chain, he's got a Kyrie-like handle. That's the first thing. Now,
Kyrie is the standard. But the things he does with the basketball, with his speed, are incredible.
The shot making, obviously, 44% from three. Ironically, one NBA team told me yesterday that on
their board, the three top
shooters on their board are all
Kentucky kids, because although Antonio Reins
is not going to go in the first round, that
he graded out as
the third best shooter in this draft, and with
the other two, one and two.
But I love Rob,
and the thing I like about Rob
Dillingham is that when you look at
Lou Williams, who played a long time in the
NBA, or Jamal Crawford,
who had an incredible career,
both of those guys were in that six
two and under range, and they were
dynamite players off the bench.
Now, Rob might not like me saying this, because he's going to be a very wealthy man tonight,
but he is your ideal second unit scorer where when you look at the Maverick series against
the Celtics, they had nobody when Kyrie and Luca went out in that second quarter,
and the Celtics were able to boat race them at times.
I think Rob Dillingham is going to be a prolific scorer.
And I think in time, like the best suited spot for him is as a dynamical.
my sixth man. Doesn't mean he can't be a great score as a starter, but I love his talent.
And the other thing about him is he does not ever shy away from big shots.
Just go back to that LSU game on the road when I'm watching it home, LSU takes the lead.
Rob's got the ball in that right wing, and I said, Cal's not calling timeout.
He's just going to let Rob do his thing.
And then he hits a shot that beats LSU in Baton Rouge.
Fran Fraschelle, our guest at Kentucky Sports Radio is covering the draft the next two nights for stadium.
Fran, I've always been impressed with your encyclopedia knowledge of foreign players.
Nobody works at it like you do.
The top two picks will likely be the two guys from France.
It'll be the second year in a row.
A number one pick comes from France.
What can you tell us about those two players?
What is the known and the unknown when it comes to scouting international players in 2024?
Well, 20 years ago, Tommy, when I started this for ESPN and did the draft for 12th
straight years, the international kids were really an unknown. And now there's so much resources
poured into the international scouting by NBA teams that we see it in the league night in
night out. I'm almost 25% of the league now. It's born outside the United States. We used to
say that the former Yugoslavia and Spain produced the best players in Europe. And now it's
the French kids. If you look at it, the immigration from the former French colonies in
Africa, you know, places like Congo and Cameroon, you know, those.
the people who migrated to France,
when you watch the French pro leagues now,
you can see it's a very athletic brand to basketball.
The coaching's outstanding, the player development.
And so now it's no surprise, quite frankly,
keep your eyes on the fact that four of the top 20 players tonight
who get drafted, at least in my mind,
are going to be from France.
So when you talk about, let's take Zachary Risa Shea,
6-9 forward from France, played into pro A,
league this year and more likely than not the hawks will take him at one keep in mind that a normal
draft where there would be a consensus at the top and this year there is done he would probably go
fifth six seventh if say victor or zion were around but he's likely to go number one he's got an
NBA position and he's got an NBA skill in that he's a shooter and score at number two at
Washington it's likely to be uh Alex Tsar who you know your Kentucky fans know well because his brother
play to Kentucky. And he's a kid who's 7-2, long and lengthy, and he just needs strength.
So those two guys are likely to go one and two, but I have to tell you, in this draft,
anybody who says they know, doesn't know because there's so much mystery because there is
no consensus number one or two or three pick tonight.
It could lead to a lot of excitement. Franfricilla's covering the draft tonight for
stadium Fran. We're only got a minute left. Two other Kentucky guys likely go.
Day two, you mentioned Antonio Reeves.
Also, Justin Edwards would be on that list.
How do you see those two specifically shaken out?
Well, Antonio is a known commodity.
He's been around forever, you know.
He's going to get his AARP card soon.
But quite seriously, the one thing Antonio does is he shoots the ball.
So, you know, if you tell me that Antonio Reeves is on an NBA roster next October,
it would not surprise me, obviously.
And you guys are quite aware of what he accomplished at Kentucky.
And then Justin Edwards, I think, is a wildcard because I don't think we saw Justin's game fully developed this year, for whatever reason.
You know, a lot of people needed the ball in their hands.
Justin is a kid that coming into Kentucky, like many people thought would be a top 15 pick.
And it's not out of the realm of possibility, Tommy, that somebody at 28 or 29, 30 could take him in the first round.
But I think that he'll probably be a second round pick.
A lot of upside because he's got...
that wing size and skill and can shoot it and just maybe is going to take a little bit longer
road to the NBA than say Shepherd and Dillingham.
But, you know, certainly a kid with NBA talent,
that's probably going to have to be cultivated a little more than the two young precocious guards.
Fran, great stuff.
As always, excited to hear that you're covering up for stadium tonight.
That's Fran Frasilla, he'll be on the NBA draft.
Thanks, bud.
Thanks for joining us.
Always a pleasure.
We'll see you soon, Tommy.

This is a reminder that tonight is the June during,
tomorrow night.
It's tomorrow night, the June drawing
for the ultimate bourbon collection from Commonwealth Causes.
$25,000 in bourbon.
up for grabs, six bottles of Pappy Van Winkle, six bottles of the Wellers collection,
all eight bottles of the Blanton collection. That's amazing. Tickets are very limited. The drawing

Our friends at Commonwealth Causes are doing great things in the community and at UK,
working with Club Blue. Get your ticket at commonwealthcauses.org. That's commonwealthcauses.org.
You can also find them on social media at KY Causes. There you go. Back to you, Tom Hart.
All right, that was great. A bonus question, bonus question for the newlywed game.
I sent a text to one of you a few years ago. I had a chance to bid on a bottle of Pappy.
And I sent a text asking, is this a good price for this bottle? Who did I send a text to?
Ryan, you answer the question, only you. Drew.
You're right. Okay. So Ryan gets two points.
Yeah.
Nothing. Right. I wanted to answer that one.
Shut out.
Drew's a big bourbon guy, so that was an easy answer for me.
You probably had to hit Drew up for that.
Still waiting for a drink of that, too.
I still haven't opened it.
By the way, my son took his driver's test today here in Atlanta.
I don't know if you guys have heard of this.
The instructor did not ride along in the car.
They put a camera in the car.
Oh.
My wife rode with them, and the instructions came over the camera like Zoom.
Turn left here, turn right here, parallel park over there.
Everything was recorded, and that's how he was graded on his driver's test.
Not that crusty old guy sitting shotgun with the clipboard insane.
Is that mind-blowing to you?
Yeah, because I just had my son just went through this,
and they had a driving instructor sit with him the whole time.
So this is new information if they're starting to do it with Zoom.
I don't know if I could have done it like that.
Drew, did you pass your first time?
I did, I think.
Maybe not.
I don't know.
It's the English course.
Basic English Drew had trouble with.
I think I did.
I'm driving now, so I did at some point.
