Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:01:36 I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's good, y'all?

Stockton Mortgage, NMLS 8259 Equal Housing Lender, NMLS, consumer access.org. Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. So I'm hard-sitting in from Matt Jones, Kentucky Sports Radio today.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Do we know where Matt is, guys? Like, where is he today? Well, he was in Bologna, Italy, the last couple days. because he was posting pictures from there, and he was in another Italy city right before that. So he must just be kind of piddling around in Italy for a couple days. That's not a bad place to piddle around. By the way, the PGA tour is in Cleveland.
Starting point is 00:04:10 No, Detroit this weekend. Rocket Mortgage is in Detroit. Did you guys hear what happened on Monday? There's a Monday at these PGA tour events. I don't know if it's every event or just occasional. I watch on the weekends, but I'm not that dialed in. They have qualifying events on Mondays where you can go out and you play a course. If they have space in the tournament, you get in.
Starting point is 00:04:35 And there's an employee from Golf Galaxy. Now, obviously he's a good golfer, but he works at Golf Galaxy. He's not on tour. He's not playing the mini tour. He's not doing all these other things. And he goes out to play in this tournament and he absolutely crushes it. And he goes out and he shoots a 65. My goodness.
Starting point is 00:04:55 So he shoots a 65. He's like, bro, I'm in. I can't believe I'm going to be playing a PGA tour event this weekend. After the event, he's, after he finishes, he's sitting at the clubhouse and he's talking with a reporter. A case of the golf one is the Twitter account I found Monday Q info. So it's Monday qualifying. And this reporter follows all these Monday qualifying rounds. And he's interviewing this kid.
Starting point is 00:05:22 And he's like, this is unbelievable. The guy's name is Nick Benz. And he sat down to do the interview and he was nervous. So he ordered a beer. And then he had another beer. Then he had a third beer. Now, he shot a 65. I mean, he absolutely torched the course.
Starting point is 00:05:41 And the way I understand it is like five other guys shot a 65 that same day. So they had to go to a playoff. They had to go to eight whole playoff. to eliminate one of those guys and the rest of them all made it into the, into the PJ tour. And he gets up, he's like, wait, I've got to go play more. And after three beers, he had to go out and play eight more holes. Oh, my.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Qualifying for the event. He's a registered pro golfer, but he's never competed higher than the state open level. And after getting in the qualifier field and having three beers, he qualified to play in this tournament, except he's supposed to work at Golf Galaxy. So he's going to have to take a couple of days off. Drew, are you a better golfer or a worse golfer after three beers? Like, where is the difference between the perfect swing lubrication? And I've lost my focus and we've gone too far.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Oh, without question. You don't want to see me when I get that third beer in. That's when I started getting hot. If you're going to take advantage of me on the golf course, you better be winning those first couple holes. Because I get real loose when we make the turn. You don't start thinking about your swing. You're just hitting shots. and that's when it gets good.
Starting point is 00:06:53 There is a threshold, though. You can't go too far. But I think three is a sweet spot, and I think that's why he won the qualifier. Where does the point of no return? You guys got the KSR scramble, a couple of them coming up, right? That's true. At what point does it get, does it go off the rail?
Starting point is 00:07:10 As soon as the fireball comes out, it's over. So you start doing ripping fireball shots, forget about it. The KSR scrambles, Tom. There's usually a fireball hole, and then you go to the double Q hole with Shannon, there's more shots, and then you get to the KS and bar's hole, and there's more shots. So by the time you make the turn, a lot of times you're ready to go home. With our guy Nick that Monday qualified,
Starting point is 00:07:33 I want to know if it ever crossed his mind that there could be a playoff, because my understanding is he got done earlier than everyone else, and he's in the leader of the clubhouse, and I saw an interview he said he was unbelievably nervous, but was he just sipping waiting to see where he'd fall, or did he ever consider that there might be more golf ahead? because if he was truly surprised, oh crap, I've got to buzz and I've now got to go play against four other guys in sudden death.
Starting point is 00:07:56 That's a wild scenario to be in. Yeah, I would think that his 65 was such a low score that he thought, okay, there may be a couple other guys shoot it. As I understand it, the playoff was six golfers for five spots. Does that sound right? Is that what you guys saw? I think six for five spots. So he's like, surely there aren't going to be, you know, maybe four other guys.
Starting point is 00:08:20 I'm in with a 65, but the odds of that happening are five are slim to none. I can't believe I'm playing in an event that has a $9 million purse. I'm going to have a few pops. To me, I get to a point there is a, I fall, my game falls right off the clip. I played in a tournament a couple weeks ago, and the guy invited me to play in it. And I said, listen, I don't know if you know what you're getting. I'm not very good. He said, no, I just want somebody to drink beers, have fun, maybe gamble a little bit, fine.
Starting point is 00:08:50 from like the 12th hole on, just take my clubs, throw them in a pond, let me ride around in the cart, and we can have a blast. But I'm not going to contribute to the team at that point. I'm kind of with Drew. After a couple drinks and you don't, you stand over your put,
Starting point is 00:09:06 you're not really thinking about it, you just hit it. And it is, you know, you're not worried about it. You don't outthink yourself. Maybe you should have had a couple of those before you put it for prison. There's no doubt.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Yeah. I guarantee that that would have helped tremendously if I'd have done that. I think this guy has to lean into it. And at the Rocket Mortgage coming up, he needs to slam three beers on the first tee. Why not? Wearing golf galaxy gear that he made his employers pay thousands of dollars to wear as their sponsor.
Starting point is 00:09:32 At what point does that fall under like performance enhancing, though, you know, you come out and drink a beer before you go play. It's not illegal. Matter of fact, the NCAA just introduced a new bill to make marijuana, I think like CBD gummies not be a violation of the, of the drug policy. So that's, that would, that would be next. But I was watching the video. It didn't look like a, like a Bud Light or a Miller Light or a Coors Light. I mean, look like he threw back like three IPAs. Did you see the actual picture of the beer? Like, you've probably
Starting point is 00:10:08 sweated enough where three Bud Lights after 18 holes of grinding through shooting a 65, just going to run right through you. IPAs might be a little bit different. Yeah, what's the, the, the, the, percentage of alcohol, like 8% on some of these? Yes, some of them can be. A heavy beer. Yeah, that's not easy. Well, I've never heard of this guy, but I'm pulling for him. He's my new favorite golfer.
Starting point is 00:10:32 He's going to play out that way, so I like him. He's 28 years old, and he'll be playing in his first ever PJ tour event on Thursday in Detroit. That's an awesome story. Big part of summer vacation. finding your way to an amusement park. We've got summer vacation with the family coming up. We're going to the Ozarks next week. There is a long-time amusement park there called Silver Dollar City.
Starting point is 00:11:00 It's the same company that owns Dollywood. Why are you already laughing about Silver Dollar City, right? I've heard of this. I've not been, but I've heard of Silver Dollar City. They have a ride that scared the bejeezes out of me as a kid. It's called Fire in the Hole. It's an indoor roller coaster. And there was an urban legend.
Starting point is 00:11:18 that a guy got decapitated on the ride. Now, they since, like, torn up the ride and introduced a new one. And I always thought that was simply urban legend, but at, like, 10 years old, it was scary enough to me, like, to be scared out of my wits every time I went in this roller coaster. Doing a little bit of show prep, I find out it's true. This guy was on the ride in 1980, and I assume he was at the front of the car,
Starting point is 00:11:46 or maybe he was a tallest one on the ride. And somehow the train, the ride that he was on, got diverted into the maintenance shed that had a low ceiling. Boom, game over. Make sure you duck. You're on that ride. I duck when I ride all of these. Like the indoor coasters where you can't see what's above your head,
Starting point is 00:12:06 Space Mountain at Disney, like, I guess that's what gets the endorphins going. Those are the scariest ones out there. Ryan, are you a coaster guy? Like, do you enjoy them? Do you get scared by him? What's the deal? I love him. I really love him.
Starting point is 00:12:22 My dad, he likes him. Two of my boys like him, but I have a third boy that absolutely hates him. He can, he will not ride him. So he just waits at the outside when we stand in line for an hour to ride a roller coaster because he just will not get on him. But I love him.
Starting point is 00:12:41 I love him now, but I was that person at one time. I used to be the kid that would sit and wait at a young age. I eventually got to where I could do it. I love them now. But it's not. fun being the kid that's scared of them, where everybody goes to ride and you're just sitting there waiting on the outside. I did that a few times. I grew up going to Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana. I'm sure a lot of our listeners are familiar with that. And even before that, Opry land, before it was
Starting point is 00:13:04 a big hotel and mall, that used to be a fun amusement park. I don't remember any specific, like really dangerous rides, but a lot of times, even to this day, when I get on them, even though I'm not afraid of the thrills, I'm thinking, why am I doing this? I don't know who put this thing together. Why am I up here? What am I getting out of this? The risk reward there doesn't add up to me. That's the worst thing. Like the carnival rides where they're just, you know, zip tied together,
Starting point is 00:13:29 there's no way you're getting me on one of those. No way. At an amusement park, I'll do the roller coasters. The one thing I've never ridden, and I guess it's got different names and different amusement parks, but they all have some form of this ride, is the one that takes you straight up in the air and it just drops you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:46 No, we have one at Kentucky Kingdom in Louis, and a girl actually lost her foot from this. And ever since I saw that story, I said, uh-uh, I'm never getting on this thing again. So I'll assess the roller coaster depending on, you know, the level of I might die depends on if I'm going to get on this thing or not. Well, and that level of fear or thrill, a lot is based upon like, who's the adult here?
Starting point is 00:14:12 Like how many times have you ridden, like kids are screaming their head off. I was at another place. think this was the same place where you go into this waiting room before the ride itself and there's like a little skit and a video in the waiting room yeah and in this one you were going on like a water ride and there was a gremlin i don't maybe somebody out there knows what i'm talking about they're in front of all of this water and there was a gremlin behind the guy giving the presentation on this video screen that was going around like unplugging these um these pipes. and like loosening them up.
Starting point is 00:14:50 And then and the guy doesn't know and all the kids are screaming. They're like, no, no, that bad guy is behind you. There's what. And then water starts coming up from the floor. I was convinced. No. I was convinced we're all going to drown. Like that was the mental gymnastics that they put you through.
Starting point is 00:15:08 And then the water leaves a floor and you walk through a doorway and you get on to like a log ride or something. Like, why do you feel the need to terrorize kids before? they even get on the ride. Like, the ride should be enough on its own, shouldn't it? That builds that anticipation. You know, I love it when they have those little things before you get on the ride and kind of build up your anxiousness and, like, you're getting nervous,
Starting point is 00:15:33 you're getting excited, and then you finally get on the ride. I love everything about it. Have y'all ever been stuck on one? Oh, yeah. That was not fun. Oh, no, no, yeah. I got stuck on, I don't know how to describe where your legs dangle. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:46 And you pull the thing over you, and it pulls you back. before you start all the top and then let you go. We went around a little bit and when you get to the other side to go up, we got stuck there and you're kind of, I wasn't like straight up and down. I'm looking down a little bit and we were up there a long time. That was not fun. Bush gardens, maybe even St. Louis near you, Tom? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:16:05 It was a bush garden somewhere, but that was not a fun experience. How long were you stuck? Probably 30 to 45 minutes. It's like a weird angle where you're kind of looking down a little bit. Yeah, I was going up a hill. So I was like, they eventually got it moving and got you. Now, Ryan, did you have to, did you have to leave the car? No, they, no, no, they said stay in the car.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Like they announced it, they go with the speaker. And it took about 30 minutes, I think, for they finally got it going again. My wife got stuck on one at Cedar Point where it didn't get over the top of the hill and they had to run it backwards. And that, I would want no part of that. Cedar Point scary enough for itself. We went on a cruise last year. and they have these water rides at the top of the cruise ship.
Starting point is 00:16:52 The worst, if you've seen these are the people that get stuck in the tube. Like, they go down and it's supposed to go a dip, and then you shoot back up, and they go back up and they don't make it all the way to the top. Either they don't weigh enough or they weigh too much, whatever, and they go back down to the bottom and back, like, just end it for me right now. Somebody come, take that thing apart and throw me in the ocean. That is too much. What is, how do they make you whole when you come off of that ride, Drew, when you stuck for 30 minutes like, oh, here, here's a free funnel cake.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Like, sorry about your experience or here's a free ticket to come back, you know, later in the summer. And relive this horror again. Yeah, come on back. We'll get just stuck on it again next time. If it happened recently, yeah, I would have gotten something out of it. But we were probably in seventh grade. And I think we got right back in line giggling at how dumb that was. It wasn't fun at the moment.
Starting point is 00:17:46 but I don't think it crossed our minds that we should get a free ticket or get something out of it. I think we just went back to riding roller coasters. That's the definition of insanity. Yeah, I wouldn't do that now. Wouldn't do that now. No, I'd own the park now. I would own it. No, you are making me whole somehow or another.
Starting point is 00:18:08 We got more to talk about. I've got the best new Netflix show for you guys. We'll do that next segment. But first is to take a caller. TJ, what's up? No, no, no. I was saying we'd call TJ, he'll make him pay. He's like the lawyer.
Starting point is 00:18:21 I was saying if I got stuck on that, you said you'd be owning the amusement park. I said, I'd call TJ. We can go to the phone. Oh, let's go to Andy. Andy's on. By the way, that might be the best misunderstanding you about it on the show today. Andy, what's up? Hey, Tom.
Starting point is 00:18:35 Hey, man. I just want to tell you, you've done a really great job on the Braves game, the Braves series the other day. These three guys will tell you, you're not going to find any person that listens to KSR that listens to more Braves games on the radio than me. I normally listen to about at least 130 to 135
Starting point is 00:18:54 a year out of the throughout the season. So I you basically did like Shannon said, lived your dream. I grew up listening to TVS. I have a great skip, Don, Joe, and Pete. And I'll have been listened
Starting point is 00:19:09 the last few years with Jim Powell and then Ben took over. And I mean, I'm entered in all the contest, and if I ever win the Yen Mar that they give away in the 8th inning, I'm blind. I can't drive it, but I guess I'll just sit Ryan to Atlanta to drive it back for me.
Starting point is 00:19:27 I got you, brother. Yeah, if you win that, I'll bring it to you, all right? You just keep me posted. Let me know. That's awesome. I appreciate you. I appreciate it. Are you going to be doing that again?
Starting point is 00:19:39 Yes. I don't have all the dates nailed down, but there is a series in early September, I'm doing the Rocky series in like the first week of September. And there may be another one, but I'm a little unsure now. So you're blind and you listen to the games on radio? Yeah. Yeah, all these guys here know me, I come to the bar and a lot of times these guys.
Starting point is 00:20:04 Have you been to a Big League game? Like, have you been to Reds game or Braves game before? I've been to the Braves games like in the 90s and early 2000. It's been a while, but yeah, I used to go back then. That's really cool. What is your favorite part of going to a game and attending it in person? Well, I wasn't supposed to be doing it at the time, but just getting to drink the beer in the park. There you is.
Starting point is 00:20:35 That's our Andy. That's right. You weren't the only one. Andy, thanks for the call, man. I really appreciate it. All right. Hey, I look forward to it. Thanks, man.
Starting point is 00:20:45 I think that there's a lot of different ways you get rewards out of your work. But if you're calling a game on radio and someone who can't see relies on you to share the details of the game and your observations and says, you did a good job, that's the biggest compliment you can get in this industry. It's amazing. That's really cool. All right. I'm going to tell you guys about the newest Netflix show you should be watching. And I'm going to tell you why Ryan is going to be. the most excited about it. Let's go to break. We'll take more of your calls, and I'll discuss
Starting point is 00:21:19 that when we return on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context and ask the questions everybody
Starting point is 00:21:57 wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slices Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on on TikTok. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in
Starting point is 00:22:36 possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:22:55 And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, our heart radio app. Search learning a hard way and listen now.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that.
Starting point is 00:23:38 Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki. The ability to show gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything.
Starting point is 00:24:05 I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness.
Starting point is 00:24:32 So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:25:46 Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Kentucky Sports Radio rolls on. Ryan, what do you got? For almost 14 years, Red State barbecue has remained and still is. Lexington's only multi-award-winning roadside barbecue joint. Located on US 25 on the outskirts of Lexington, Red State offers some of the Kentucky's best barbecue on a daily basis. Ribs, pork, chicken, brisket, chicken wings, variety of sausages and double smoke brisket. And don't forget the sides, they have the best corn pudding I've ever had.
Starting point is 00:26:22 That's not on the script. I just do that in there, Tom. They have a great potato salad and of course their fan favorite, their big shell mac and cheese. Red State Barbecue, 40-20 Georgetown Road. But if you're coming from Georgetown, they call it Lexington Road. It's barbecue, the way you want it to be. Good. Back to you, Tom. That's not the least good, creepy. I spent last night watching the first episode of America's Sweethearts. It is a show that covers the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders and specifically the tryout process to make the cheer squad.
Starting point is 00:27:00 Now, full disclosure, like I always love shows when I know people in them. It's why I watch the OVW show so much because you guys played such a big role in it and Matt especially, and I got so invested in the characters, many of whom, like all of us, are imperfect, right? And so you think Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, well, they've got to be absolutely perfect. And they look perfect, except that these judges are so hypercritical, it's amazing. You can't turn away from it. Now, I know a couple of them because my buddy John Sunbold, who I work games with during basketball, SEC Network ESPN analysts, He had not one, but two daughters who were Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Two of them. Wow. One dance at Missouri and then went on to be a Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders and since retired after five years. And his youngest daughter was a dancer at TCU. So you'll see them in episode one if you decide to watch. It is fascinating. Like the judges on this show, their ability to find fault with some of the,
Starting point is 00:28:12 the most beautiful women and greatest dancers and incredible athletes, it's a level of being hypercritical that I did not know existed. Like, I am sure there are NBA teams to put less thought into tonight's draft than these women and men put into picking the whatever, 45, 46 cheerleaders are going to make it to wear the rhinestones and dance on Sundays for the Cowboys. It's amazing. Ryan, you've got to watch it. I know you'll watch it for a lot of different reasons. You'll be fascinated. I know you will.
Starting point is 00:28:48 I've seen kind of bits and pieces of shows about the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. And like there are, they're amazing athletes. I mean, they're in the best shape. They're better shaped than a lot of pro athletes and the workouts and the things they do in the dance and the things. And then it's always amazing. Like how much is involved. It's not just what you do on the field on Sunday. There's so much other stuff that they're involved with that they have to be
Starting point is 00:29:10 responsible for and they don't get paid very much. It's not like they can even do that for a full-time job, but yet they have full-time job hours. So I'll check it out for you. And the director is Greg Whitley. I think he was the same director that worked on. He is. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:25 I saw his name in the final credits as I finished the final episode yesterday. Oh, you've already watched it. Oh, listen. You watch the whole thing? What do you need to know about old Kelly and Judy up there picking the best dancers? when Tennessee was winning the World Series Monday night my wife had that on one TV and I was watching the World Series on the other
Starting point is 00:29:45 saw every episode and I will back up your recommendation it is and I've actually I need to shut up but I've seen past seasons as well it is wild how they critique people trying out for that and how serious and strict it is there's a really cool moment of details the history of the Dallas Cowboy
Starting point is 00:30:06 cheerleaders and how the population skyrocketed. This is episode one, so I'm not giving an ton away, on a Monday night football game where they started shooting the cheerleaders and they hadn't really done it before. And a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader on Monday night football looks over her left shoulder and winks at the camera. And that was it. She winks, Frank Gifford, Danny Don, those guys lose their mind and stars were born. It's amazing. We're going to take your calls right after this at Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.

Starting point is 00:31:39 with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:32:12 I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, our heart radio app. Search, learn the hard way, and listen now. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer that? On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
Starting point is 00:32:38 professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WMBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel like.
Starting point is 00:32:59 Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything.
Starting point is 00:33:22 Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness.
Starting point is 00:33:46 So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know.
Starting point is 00:34:21 Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:34:55 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:35:17 Tom March sitting in for Matt Jones today. Drew, instead of watching Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final, watched America's Sweethearts in the finale. That's how good the show is. You had three screens gone. Well, once the baseball ended, we had a little playoff hockey left. That baseball hurt, though.
Starting point is 00:35:35 That was not fun to watch. I would have watched anything other than that and should have. I turned it off. It was over. I didn't want to see Tennessee celebrate. As soon as it was over, off. What do you make of what the A&M coach did? Jim Schlossnagle, after the game, was asked by a reporter,
Starting point is 00:35:48 a guy that he knows, an outlet that he knows really well, Tex-Ags, which is very similar to Kentucky Sports Radio, about rumors that he would be taking the Texas job, and he called the reporter selfish, and he said he left his family to take the A&M job, the only job he ever wants, and then 24 hours later, he took the Texas job. So, Ryan, does he owe that reporter an apology? He should because it smells bad now that he leaves 24 hours after you just took your team to the World Series Championship game. It smells bad.
Starting point is 00:36:24 Obviously, he was talking to Texas before that series even started. already. It was obviously that deal was already in place. And for him to kind of embarrass the reporter the way he did, man, I mean, obviously now he's the guy that looks bad. The coach looks bad, not the reporter. Reporter's just doing his job. He's asking the question that's obvious, right? I mean, everybody wants to know what's going on here. There's rumors floating around. Like you said, the guy clearly has already been in conversation with Texas. So, yeah, it's a bad look. I mean, I don't, I don't know why you couldn't just say, look, it's an opportunity that I have.
Starting point is 00:36:56 And I'm still thinking about it. Move on. Next question. You don't have to embarrass the reporter. Right. I think if you had the chance to do it over again. Now, I know Schloss really well, and he's usually very well prepared. The only thing I can imagine is you just lost a game where you were a hit away from winning a national championship.
Starting point is 00:37:18 And that he was still caught up in the emotions of that missed opportunity and wasn't thinking properly. The stock answer is, listen, the only thing I'm going to talk about tonight is my team in Texas A&M and my players who are so close to winning a national title for this incredible fan base. That's the answer, right? I mean, Drew, I don't, I don't, I didn't know that the Texas, Texas A&M rivalry could get any more heated and vitriolic than, but now it spills over. And the baseball side of it, besides some horns down here and there, like it wasn't. I don't want to say it wasn't that intense, but it certainly wasn't football. Now they just ratcheted that whole thing up. Yeah, and he brought it on himself.
Starting point is 00:38:02 What do you think is going to happen there? When you know you're lying in front of a camera. I just wonder what the Texas A&M athletic director thinks about this. Shannon, what is his name again? The A&M athletic director? Okay, just making sure you still want to know. You're so close to this program. I didn't know if there's anything else that you knew was going on with A&M.
Starting point is 00:38:22 I was going to break the story, but I didn't feel like it was appropriate. But no, I just can't believe the guy just tells a lie. Like looking, I mean, he knew. Yeah, he knew. He knew. It was already done. Yeah, it's a bad look. That was a bad.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Bad look. Smells bad. I want to have it back. Hey, you know what's not a bad look is birthdays? We have a chance to celebrate some birthdays since I've been guest hosting. It was Drew's just like two weeks ago. Yes. You got a cake.
Starting point is 00:38:47 Right on while we're on the Zoom. So congratulations and happy birthday. I appreciate that. And today's Tyler's birthday. I heard. It is. The queen of KSR, Tyler Thompson. She makes KSR run. She's probably 29 years old today.
Starting point is 00:39:06 She's having a great time on vacation. Numbers don't matter. I don't know if she's listening. Hopefully not. And she's enjoying her time at the beach. But if she is listening, happy birthday from everyone here at KSR. Happy birthday. I think everybody who's listening right now should,
Starting point is 00:39:21 if you have her number, text her. I love that idea. If you have her number, text her happy birthday. If you don't have her number, don't go searching for it. That'd be a little bit creepy. But Twitter, yeah, tweet her happy birthday. I think she'd love to see it. At Ms. Tyler, KSR.
Starting point is 00:39:37 Thank you, Drew. Speaking of randoms, you know, my boy Corey, who puts all these pictures of, I put my senior picture. He posted that today next to Carl Edwards, who Shannon knows, went to the same high school I did. I put my senior picture on my Twitter. No, sorry, my Instagram account. Tommy H. 44. If you want to see what I looked like in black and white back in the 90s,
Starting point is 00:40:00 I don't know why it's black and white. I guess because it was in the yearbook, if that makes sense. Draft is tonight. We talked about it with Fran Frasilla. He talked about how the top end of the draft is a little bit light and how there's a lot more moves to come. But my biggest takeaway guys was what he said about Rob Dillingham, being an elite score off the bench,
Starting point is 00:40:22 a second unit score, which is basically what his role was with Cal. I mean, that was his role to come in and be a high volume shooter and score off the bench as a second wave. And the idea that Antonio Reeves, according to one team, was the third best shooter in the draft. I thought that was high praise. Drew, what was your takeaway? What you just said, really, I'm interested in now more is coming out since we're doing the show, just comments people are making about Rob. I'm so interested to see what happens with Rob.
Starting point is 00:40:55 I could see him sneaking up even closer to the front of the draft. Some people have him following back at the lottery. He had an ankle injury that kind of kept him from working out for teams this process. But that's a guy where if he pans out, that could be an all-star and your playmaker for a very long time. He lacks a little bit of the size and the defense. It's a gamble. But his ceiling is very high. And we kind of talked about how Reed's going to go where he's going to go.
Starting point is 00:41:20 He's fitting in looking there top five-ish. But Rob could go anywhere, and I'm starting to get excited seeing these comments coming out about it. Maybe he might come off the board a little quicker than we expected. Like I said earlier, I'd love to be that number four with Wimby, one of the two there. But I'm most excited just see what Rob Dillingham does tonight. And Antonio, I'd love to see him crack into the first round. But as Fran said, that age, I mean, that's really holding him back. Yeah, I look at the age, and I don't know if I would be as concerned anymore.
Starting point is 00:41:50 of age. Like Dalton Connect is going to be a borderline lottery pick, a top 10. He's, he's 23 years old. He's been around. Now, I think he's an elite player. And I think the one area, not that Fran sold him short, but I think Antonio Reeves is more than just a shooter. I think he's an elite score. He's a rim finisher. And in the NBA, whether you go to rockets or other teams, where it's threes and rim twos, I think he can stand out in that regard, right? he made himself more of a score this year you know where last year he was just strictly a shooter this past season you know he could shoot the little floater
Starting point is 00:42:28 beat his guy one-on-one and shoot the floater he became a more of a score and man his game fits exactly the way the NBA is right now that's what I can't believe that somebody's not going to you know jump on him a chance to get a player like that just to add to their roster and how cool is it that the first two college players drafted could be reading Robb I mean like Franie said the first two guys may be the guys from France and then three and four two guys from Kentucky that came off the bench the first two college players selected could be Kentucky
Starting point is 00:42:55 guys tonight that's just crazy that's Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd Gilchrist when they went one and two college guys I'm just excited to see them in the green room I mean Reed's going to wear the most bland basic suit very traditional Rob's going to wear something outrageous hopefully they're on our TV a lot we're going to see Jeff and Stacy the family maybe Cal I expect Cal will be in there two. I think he should be for those guys if they want him. It'll just be really Kentucky fans. We haven't had kind of this night in a while, but being, especially Reed, one of our own, I'm just excited to see them. They always tweet out the guys getting on the bus. They're in Times
Starting point is 00:43:30 Square. I just want to see them finally going through it. Two days of the draft. It's a two day experience now. Round one tonight, eight o'clock Eastern on ESPN and ABC. And round two starts at four o'clock tomorrow on ESPN. That's really odd. to me. I don't know the other programming that's on on a Thursday night, but if you're going to do two days of the draft, don't you do them both in prime time? Is that odd to anybody else or just me? Yeah, that was odd when I saw that. Four o'clock start for the round two because they're still going to be some big names we know and big names that are still available. I don't know why. Was there something going on Thursday night that they've already got, they're going to have couldn't preempt it? I don't know what the deal is. Yeah, I got excited for two nights of prime time. And then it said four. It's like, well, what's the point? At that point just, put it back at the one night
Starting point is 00:44:19 at the end of the first. Yeah. It'd be better up doing it all in one night than you get it at 4 o'clock on a random Thursday. But tonight Drew and I are bartending at KS. Bar and Grill for the first round of the NBA draft at KS Bar. So Drew and I are behind the bar tonight.
Starting point is 00:44:35 And maybe just for the first round that we serve, whichever. Why are you guys bartending? We're not at KS Bar enough, really. Yeah, we need to be there more. Before Matt left, he basically told us, you guys need to keep that bar alive. So we're doing everything we can to keep it going.
Starting point is 00:44:51 Hey, we had fun last night. I'm excited to do it again. Singo last night. You ever done Singo, Tom? No, what is singo? Bingo with music. I'd never played it before. I went in a little hesitant, not knowing what to expect. And then I spent the next two hours singing at the top of my lungs and dancing. And I kind of forgot we were playing a game. It was just a fun party in there.
Starting point is 00:45:11 It was a good crowd. It was a lot of fun last night. Is it hard to keep track with the picks? if you are singing and dancing. So what you says is about 30 seconds, the song? Yeah. And you can't, instead of like B1 or, you know, I, whatever, it's a, you have song titles on your board and you want your song played, and that's how you dab it.
Starting point is 00:45:31 I'm so confused. Yeah, regardless, look up, sing-go sometime. Yeah. Come, come play with us in July. We're doing it again in July. Okay. Black 23rd. Did you guys, I'll be up there.
Starting point is 00:45:42 Did you guys watch the Reds game last night? I did not. No, we have, we have. Oh, the Reds are still playing baseball. Well The other season was over Some ways Hunter Green decided to barf on the mound
Starting point is 00:45:55 In the game Oh I heard about that He threw up on the mound Yeah He was with the Reds He walked the first battery he faced And then threw his next pitch To the next guy
Starting point is 00:46:06 Like that's when you know You really don't like your stuff How's your stuff in the bullpen? It was so bad I puked After I walked the first batter Hit the next matter hit the next guy and look at the dugout take me out come get me i'm done that's amazing uh shannon do we have anybody any callers waiting uh yeah we do let's go to kacey
Starting point is 00:46:26 hey kacey how are you hey good morning fellas Tom it's such an honor to talk to you we absolutely love you on ksr and i'm actually andy's best friend and i listen to your brave calls as well and it was awesome having you on the call um i'm a huge brave fan and My favorite was always Jeff Frankor. So I was wondering to be having Jeff Frankor stories for us. And you're doing a great job. Thank you all so much. Are you blushing right now?
Starting point is 00:46:56 Because the way you kind of giggled after Jeff Frankor was something else. Okay. I might be crudging a little bit on Jeff Rancourt. Is he married? I'm not married. If Jeff Rangor's single kid you up, took me up, Tom. Jeff's married whose beautiful wife, Katie. He is an amazing person.
Starting point is 00:47:16 Thanks for your call. Now, he is exactly some of, I'll be honest, like there are some people that you see on TV or, you know, sports events who are different than the person they portray. He is exactly the same person, exactly the same. I had the opportunity to cover him when he came up through the minors. And then when he was in the big leagues, I talked to him semi-regularly. He is just an awesome, awesome dude. I wish he was doing more games, but he's kind of dialed back his schedule a little bit
Starting point is 00:47:49 because he's got young ones and want to be around the house with them. So that's really cool. I'll have to give him a shot. He worked last night. I think he worked Yankees' Mets for Turner. Yeah, he's great. All right, let's take a break.
Starting point is 00:48:02 I got another story, when we return, it has to do with the head cheerleader, dating the backup quarterback to make the starting quarterback jealous. and how that all turned out for her. That's after this on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,

Did you guys hear what happened with Matthew Stafford's wife? Kelly, she was on a podcast a couple weeks ago, and she told a story about how she got his attention when they were both at Georgia.
Starting point is 00:53:05 She was a cheerleader. He was a quarterback. She started dating the back. backup quarterback. That got Matthew Stafford's attention. They end up dating. Now they're happily married. The problem is one of the, well, there's a lot of problems. But not the least of which is she didn't say who the backup quarterback was. And at the time, and you don't have to be a super sleuth, but Georgia fans especially were like, oh, I wonder who that was. Let's go check that depth chart. Oh, that was Joe Cox. So she must have been dating Joe Cox, who by the way, at the time already had a
Starting point is 00:53:39 girlfriend that he would then get engaged and married to. She finally had to come out yesterday and say apologize to Joe and his wife and say, I wasn't talking about you guys, not the guy I was referencing, so I apologize. I mean, there are just so many things wrong with this story. I don't even know where to begin. Ryan, were you familiar with this? Like, what do you think when you hear that story? I don't hear the story, but I was, I think she, you know, kind of played her cards right. She was going to try to get to the starting quarterback. You got to work your way up through the minor leagues to get to the big leagues. Of course you would say that.
Starting point is 00:54:21 Matthew Stafford, by the way, according to over the cap, ranked second all time and career earnings of $328 million made second only to Aaron Rogers. Drew, what did your take on, like, should she name who the guy, the first guy was? So people don't just assume it was this happily married man who was already dating his then-wife? Well, I'll start with she could have just not said it at all. That's information she could have not just thrown out for the public to dissect and talk about on radio shows for days at a time. But I can't put that toothpaste back in the tube. So at this point, I mean, she had to clear Joe Cox's name.
Starting point is 00:55:01 I think she's in. She's got to keep checking. people off saying, well, it wasn't them. I think she has to. I mean, they're going to keep guessing. Was Stetson Bennett a freshman walk on at the time? Somebody eventually is going to figure out who it was. I just feel like at dinner that night, Matthew might look at her like, you didn't really have to put that out there, you know?
Starting point is 00:55:19 That could have been left alone. We've moved on from that. We're married. We have children. I don't know why we have to revisit that time. What if he didn't even know that story? What if Matthew Stafford didn't know that she got to me by dating my friend in the huddle there? You got that, and I'm wondering, like, what's the question that even prompted that answer? You know, does she just start oversharing? I think it was just oversharing. I think it was, oh, how did you guys get together?
Starting point is 00:55:43 Oh, funny, you should ask. I was dating his teammate to get to him. They were roommates, and I was in one room and he was in the other, and I tiptoed across the hallway one night. I mean, it could have been a lot of stuff happening going on right there. Is it a fair question? I mean, she put the information out there. Is it a fair question to ask if the other guy was the starter, would you have stayed with him?
Starting point is 00:56:06 If the other guy had NFL potential, would you have stayed with him? Is that a fair question? Well, yeah, it's a fair question. I think there's a, yeah, all questions are fair at this point, right? I mean, your wife was going after Carl Edwards in high school and she ended up with you. She just didn't like cards that only turned left, I guess. By the way, Apple and Sports came out with their All-American All-Conference teams, three wildcats named preseason All-American
Starting point is 00:56:33 Deion Walker, second team D.L. Ryan Brown, second team All-American kick returner, Maxwell Harrison, four-team All-American Defensive Back. And Dane Key, among numerous wildcatch named All-Conference, preseason second team. Yeah, look out. Breakout year for Dane Key. He's been working hard.
Starting point is 00:56:52 He's kind of got a little chip on his shoulder right now. So I think I like to see that from him. So expect big seasons from him and Barry on. They love Vandergrift, the quarterback. They love what they're doing out there on the field right now. So I'm so excited about the upcoming season. I love that nine players made that list, but if there's a first team that Deion Walker's not on, Deionne's not second team anything. So fix that at the top. But yeah, let's hear some scoop from Dane and Barry on. What you got over there? Well, I mean,
