Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,

This is Kentucky Sports Radio
presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now, here's Matt Jones.
All right, get up.
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.
Grandpals and grandmas and aunts and uncles
that is the Friday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio.
As always, sponsored by the T.J. Smith office.
We heard him on the radio yesterday.
What's you going to do, Shannon?
He'll make them pay.
He'll make them pay.
That was a great came.
he had yesterday. That was a great cameo yesterday. Those guys, part of my take guys, they love them from T.J. Smith, because he's always going to make them pay. We got Ryan, we got Drew, we got Shannon the dude. Mario's here already taking videos and pictures, and we've got a big show here on Friday. Of course, you can call us on the call on the
of course you can call us now on the clock shop phone number, which is 859-280-2287. We'll have our whiskey thief song of the day. We'll have our Don Franklin call of the day. And we'll also have our Kentucky-branded tweet of the day.
and Shannon actually the part of my take guys did a better job awarding that than we do most of the time yesterday.
Yeah, they did a great job yesterday and I'm sure we're going to get into it.
But man, I think eight years they've been hosting KSR.
That was the best one.
That was the absolute best one.
I mean, how do you top that one next year?
That was the best one.
Yeah, I mean, certainly for a summer guest host show, that might be the best show ever.
Yeah.
I mean, my phone was blowing up.
The moment they announced for Pitino, my jaw was on the floor at home.
I couldn't believe they got him on those airwaves.
When they were teasing a special guest, I was just thinking it's going to be Jack Golky.
They were going to troll us.
I even texted Shannon, like, do not let this happen.
You know, is it Jack?
Get out in front of it.
But it wasn't Golky.
It was even a bigger surprise.
So we're going to get to that.
Like I said, we've got a big show today.
The Marino brothers are going to join us live here at KS Bar at 1030.
Michael Marino, who just finished one of the best careers ever at EKU.
And his little seven-foot brother Malachi Marino, who is one of the biggest recruits in the country.
right now. So those guys are both going to be here.
They'll be a lot of fun.
Do me a favor, Ryan. Get a picture next to him.
I want to see the height differential.
That's a good idea.
It's Trimble County Day. We'll get to that at 11 o'clock.
I know you guys all did your Trimble County homework last night.
I committed a lot of time to my Trimble County homework.
I will say, even though I did my research, this might be one if any callers want to call in
and help out a bit.
I don't know how you did, but I just, I'm not saying the county didn't have a lot going on.
I might have just been looking in the wrong quarters.
So let's go ahead and let's start Jones in four.
A Trimble County caller now.
Get ready.
We need some help.
That's maybe the one county I'm worried about we may not get a call from.
Yeah, I've got a few facts, but we could use some help.
And one guy got drafted last night.
One guy didn't, so we got a lot to talk about.
But you're right.
We have to start with the pardon my take guys on the show and Rick Patino's call.
Like you drew, as soon as Patino came on, my phone blew up.
And it stayed that way the rest of the day.
Went to El Marriachi last night.
People were talking about Rick Patino.
I mean, everywhere you go.
go, that was the highlight maybe of the summer.
Rick Patino that we have ridiculed, ridiculed, and chastised and made fun of forever on this show,
came on this show, and killed it.
He was so good.
I mean, at the start, when he first came on, I'm like, oh, Patino.
Man, Matt's not going to like this.
Patino's on KSR.
But by the end of the call, I found myself like going, that was awesome.
I can see myself falling in love with him again.
It was also.
Oh, that far.
Man crush.
Wow.
It didn't quite give me to that point, but I was very entertained.
I knew when he came on, the part of my take guys know how to toll that line.
They weren't going to, you know, let him just come on here and basically troll Kentucky fans.
So I figured they were up to something.
I did not expect Rick to basically just spend the whole time trying to get back in BBN's Good Graces.
When, hey, I was the most shocked when he was on the show.
but I had to pick my jaw off the floor again when he said that he has been donating to Kentucky football
and has been in contact with Nickman Jones supporting the baseball run.
I know his Pope guy and little this is playing up Pope,
but the fact that he has been giving his own money to the football program,
I'm still in shock over that.
That was the biggest, I think, jaw dropper of the whole interview,
is that he's friends with Mark Stoops and he's donated to the football.
I wrote a personal check.
Maybe Eddie Grand, too.
Both of them.
That's right.
He didn't mention Andy Graham.
Mark's Dukes and Andy Grant, and that he also has supported the baseball team
because he'd made this statement already that he would write a check for the basketball team.
I thought, I just Patino spouting off again.
Well, then you find out, well, he's done it for football and for baseball.
I kind of took that as a little dig at the past regime, too.
Oh, yeah.
He's supported everything but that one.
I just couldn't believe he said that out loud.
Even just saying Cal's name and saying we need to move forward.
I mean, Rick's still an active coach in college basketball.
You're usually not talking about what someone else.
did somewhere, but he's talking about how, you know,
Kyle's time had run up and we all need to move on and embrace Pope.
As I'm sitting here repeating it, I still can't believe yesterday morning happened.
A lot of it, I think, you know, he's Rick.
I'm not going to let him get me all the way.
You said you're falling in love.
I'm not there yet.
There's still a little BS in there, but he went a long way with a lot of fans.
There's no denying that because he was, whether he meant it or it was orchestrated from
beginning, he was saying what he needed to say to get BB in to love him again.
and like yoga girl was like giddy yesterday because she was at UK during the Patino run and like
there when you have that real fond memories of him right and then he came across yesterday as that
guy again he came across to me as very humble very respectful I mean even when he called in like I
knew that he was calling in and I see the line lit up and I'm going holy crap he goes yeah this is
rick patino and it was just I don't know his demeanor I always thought Rick kind of being a like I don't
know, pretentious kind of, I don't know what the correct word would be.
You know, snobby, you know, personality, like I'm better than you personality.
But even talking to me off the air, you know, our 30-second conversation, I thought, you know,
he sounded like a really nice guy.
So maybe I had him wrong all this time.
I don't know.
But I thought he did a great job on, on, with part of my take.
And, you know, those guys, too, have had plenty of years on this show just making nothing
but Patino jokes.
So I don't know that he's aware of any of that, probably not.
But for him to come on the show and to come on Kentucky Sports Radio,
that's a moment that I would never say.
I thought that hell was freezing over.
Pigs were flying.
Rick Petino was on KSR.
Holy crap.
On that,
I heard him on their show about a month ago,
and he's aware of all the jokes.
He's like,
it is what it is,
you know?
So that makes it even better.
If he's laughing along, okay?
If he's laughing along,
he can have a sense of humor to go along with it,
then that makes me like him even more.
I don't like it.
It's too much at once.
It was too much for 11 a.m.
yesterday.
I was overwhelmed.
Well, in the past two months, with Patino's video, he made supporting Mark Pope, won a lot of us over.
And then I think that appearance yesterday on KSR going to win some more people over.
One other thing, too, like he called, like just a little behind the scenes thing.
He called right before we hit the hard break.
Like, you know, we hit the hard break at what, 1029 or whatever it is?
He calls like 1028.
I'm like, man, I'm going to have to tell him to call back because I don't want to just have Patino sitting on hold for five minutes, right?
So then he says, okay, I'll call you back in four minutes.
We come back on the air.
He hasn't called.
I'm going, oh, no, is he not going to call?
I'm not going to be blamed for hanging up on Rick Petino.
You know, I'm thinking that the whole time, but luckily he called back.
But I thought it was great.
It was great.
I was trying to not let it impact me too much.
And I'm at home.
I got my little desk, a little home office set up.
And he's talking.
And over my shoulder, I have a Rick Petino signed basketball from when I was at his camp in 96,
to my rights little poster on the wall with like a young Mark Pope and Jeff
Shepherd and they're wearing the old uniform. I'm like, it's happening. It's coming back. I can't
let it. The tattoo is still on him. I cannot forget that. It's true. But yesterday he made up a lot
of ground, I will admit. Well, this is what, this was his quote yesterday. Kentucky fans to me
are very special. I got nothing but great things to say about Kentucky fans. I totally get it
today while they were bitter at me going to the University of Louisville.
You know, these things that he's saying, it's like it makes me these
coming back.
He is saying all the right things.
He is saying all the right things.
Just like Mark Pope said all the right things when he was hired as the basketball coach.
Patino is saying all the right things now.
He wants to be able to come here forever and just go to games, go to downtown, and be a Kentucky person again.
He set it up for that.
It seems it's going to happen.
Shannon said this on his pre-show.
I think for us to ultimately get to that point, something has to be done about that tattoo.
You cannot be an ambassador of UK.
with that on your back.
So until we get all the way back with Rick,
he's got to do something about the, what is it,
the 20, well, it went into title,
but he's got the L and the,
what was supposed to be a title.
Now, the other news nuggety dropped,
besides him donated money to football,
which still just blows my mind,
was they tried to work, he said,
they tried to work out a game with UK this year.
It didn't work out,
but they're probably going to play it next year at Rupp,
which will be the 30-year anniversary of the 96 team,
and then the following season go to Madison Square Garden.
The way he is and what he's done, he'll be applauded and celebrated with that 96 team.
Oh, yeah.
As long as Pope and Kentucky beats him, you've got to beat him.
You're inviting him here, you better beat him.
But if this had happened a year or two ago when Cal's here, you're booing him.
Now look how much we flipped, knowing that that 96 team and Pope and Patino coming back and the 30-year reunion,
our whole attitude has changed about this man.
thickle fan base there's no doubt about it that's a great way to put it we can turn on a dime on anybody so what
at what age are people like i was talking to this yoga girl like if you're born before 1990
maybe 1991 you don't know patino as the kentucky coach you know you were six seven years old
eight years old maybe tops when patino was the coach here you don't know that like mario i ask him
mario said i only know him as the louisville coach so what is that
that age where if you're older, you know, if you're the, you know, a certain age, you're like,
you remember the glory days, you're willing to forgive him, and what's the age where, like,
you're never going to forget the guy?
Your memory flipped you off when he walked out of a rup.
He's got a Louisville tattoo.
What's, where is that age?
Where does it fall?
I'd say about 30 and younger.
Probably doesn't.
Probably a lot of Louisville memories, more middle fingers.
I mean, he is my first memories.
So I'm like, when I fell in love with Kentucky basketball, it was the Petino was just getting
started.
Like one of my first memories is like the Brasso tip in.
I remember the late in her shop, and I like the game.
I was too young for that.
I've said many times, the 96, the Meadowlands logo I have on everything in my house that I could possibly put it on.
That will be my favorite team forever.
So just speaking for my age range, I'm late 30s, about to hit 40.
I think a lot of us have that nostalgia sneaking up around.
Going back to that Sunday revival we've had with Pope, and I've enjoyed going back to that.
The age, though, I mean, certainly Mario, I understand.
I'd say a little younger than me, probably has some Petino memories.
But after that, I mean, he was gone after 97.
That's been a long time from now.
Shannon, you're just about the same age as Drew.
You're a little older, so you probably feel about kind of the same way.
Yeah, I think Drew's right about that.
I don't know that it's like a certain age group.
And are you guys in a wind tunnel all of a sudden?
No, he's passing the headset to Mario.
We're getting the volume picked out.
What I get the young guy on?
Yeah, but I think Drew's probably right on with that.
I think, you know, there's still some fans, though, and I'm talking about Marcia, who still won't like Rick Patino regardless, right?
Like, no matter what he says.
So I think there's still some fans that are just going to dislike Patino for going to Louisville, and that's one of those things that are, that's unforgivable for a lot of fans.
But I think for the most part, we've kind of come around on him.
This whole thing with Patino has gone full circle.
Mario, you heard the interview.
I did.
You said you don't remember him as a Kentucky coach.
You were born in 1999.
What is?
You were born in 1999?
I was old.
I know he's a baby.
I'm getting old, though.
I'm getting there.
So how do you feel?
What do you think your UK fans your age?
How do they view Patino?
And how do you feel about him after that interview yesterday?
I view him as the Louisville coach.
That's kind of what I remember him by.
I didn't even know.
Did you say he had a Louisville tattoo?
He does.
That's insane.
Big one.
Yeah.
Big one.
I did not know that.
Back chat.
But yeah, I view him as a Louisville coach.
Never really.
I've seen pictures, videos of him being a coach at UK.
but that's why I know him as the Louisville coach.
I think that's an obstacle I have to overcome a little bit with the younger crowd.
It is.
Even though I'm still not there yet, I have a bank full of memories and memorabilia.
The people younger, they don't have any of that to go back to.
They just know he flipped us off last time he was at Rupp Arena.
And the cow whooped him every year.
Cal whooped him, and he's got the tattoo.
So it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out,
because obviously Pope is going to want him back in good graces with the
fan base, especially for that game next year, if they play that 30 anniversary game.
That's going to have.
They've both mentioned that several times.
I think they tried to get it kind of set up this year, and they said they couldn't.
But getting the return trip to New York, too.
Just telling fans, John Caliperi loved going to New York.
I think Mark Pope might love New York more than him, so get used to that being a regular thing as well,
not just with St. John's.
I think we're going to have a lot of New York in our future.
The Marino brothers are here.
They're going to join us at 1030 live here on Kentucky Sports Radio.
He's tall.
He's very tall.
He can hear you,
You can't hear you.
We'll take your calls as well.

That's the Clark's Pubmit Shop phone.
What did he say?
I said he knows he's tall.
You don't have to be very true.
And we'll be right back.

The question is, how do you conquer them?
On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,

and the mindset that keeps them going.
From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.

Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you,

Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke.

Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan, Drew and Shannon here.
Taking your calls on the Clark's Publishout phone line, 859-2802-287.
We've also got the Aviation Glass Text Machine.
502-735-3680.
Got some good ones, Drew.
Let's hear him.
Imagine telling someone after Petino flipped us off
that in 2024 people would hate John more than Rick.
It's insane.
Someone wrote yesterday and said,
imagine, say, it's 2020,
that Rick would be on KSR before Cal.
That's true.
That's a good point.
Here's another one on the Aviation Glass Tech Machine.
I was 21 when Petino left.
I'm now 48, and yesterday I became a fan again.
It's been a lot of that.
It sounded like you did it, too.
I've seen several people in my own friend group have gone back.
Like I said, it's happening.
I'm not there yet, but it's happening all around me.
I think the part of my take guys are doing just fine until they had Golky on.
They may have had Latner on after that.
We knew that was coming.
We knew you even said it.
We were doing the bartending here at the bar the other night.
The surprise guest is Golky.
I knew they have a relationship.
He's done their show.
He sells a T-shirt through them.
He's done a lot.
lots of barstool things, so I knew they had that contact and it would pop up.
I didn't expect it to be as therapeutic as it was.
I got to admit, even though he was looking at our face and dissing us,
I kind of needed to hear him say how bad the preparation was in guarding him.
Yeah.
Like I thought that watching, we all did, but him basically calling out Kentucky,
like, how did you all not pick me up in the full court?
As much as that hurt, it was closure.
I needed to hear him say that.
Does that make sense?
I know a lot of people turned off the radio
because he's insulting us on our airwaves,
but at the same time, I'm like, I needed that.
Thank you for saying that out loud.
We refuse to apologize.
You know what?
I love it.
He shouldn't have apologized.
He shouldn't apologize.
As he said, everybody in the world knew that Goki was hot
except for Calipari.
Well, I think it was PFT asking,
were you surprised they didn't change
and do something to try to stop you?
And Gokie's like, yeah.
They didn't do anything different.
He laughed.
He laughed at us.
Yeah.
I hate giving him credit, but that's exactly what happened
to while we went home, and I think we needed to hear it,
even though it hurt a little bit.
He tried to call in, by the way, is Jack from Oakland, like I wouldn't know,
like he was trying to trick me.
He called in on the hotline, I'm going, okay.
They already told me, I'm in on the joke, Jack.
I got you.
Well, then you put him on the air, though, was Jack from Oakland.
Well, that's what he wanted to go on as.
Oh, okay.
All right.
I don't think this was intentional, but, you know, in times right now,
you've kept up with Kendrick and Drake, right?
Oh, yeah.
Not like us was the final blow to Drake, I believe.
I think yesterday, part of my take unintentionally did a Cala disc track a little bit.
Like the Patino stuff, and then letting a player come on and talk about how a coach didn't do his job good enough.
I don't think they meant for it to go that direction, but I kind of felt like the whole episode was a Calipari disc track.
And, you know, usually they try to pocus, but maybe in a weird way we became more endearing to the part of my take guys.
They started by making fun of that Arkansas tweet.
that needed to be made fun of.
But right away, they went straight to what is Arkansas doing?
Those are Kentucky players.
You can't claim them.
So even though I don't think they said, let's all go at Cal today,
it kind of ended that way without all the conversations went.
859-280-2287.
Who we got, Shannon?
All right, let's start with Marcia.
He's going to have a little bit of a different opinion, I think.
I know, Marcia.
What was your feeling after yesterday hearing Petino on the show?
Well, that part of my take, they do everything they can to,
in South Kentucky.
So there you go.
That's the icing on the cake.
He is like Donald Trump.
Just says what he's a con man.
He's a salesman.
Oh, fall back in love with me.
Forget all that I've done.
I could care less about him going to Louisville.
I could care less about his tattoos, his freckles, his mows, whatever he's got.
He's still a morally,
corrupt person.
He's just, he's these
white coaches that
cheat and their
black assistants are banned
for life. I don't think Andre
McGee thinks much of him.
No. And forget all that.
Bruce Pearl, Dave Bliss,
Rick Bettino, all cheat
and their assistants take
the fall. He's
nothing to be admired to me.
Nothing.
And he just, and I'll believe he
cut that check one.
I see the cancel check.
It's just
he's just
a con man.
I mean, it's just
I don't believe nothing he says.
I have no respect for him.
Appreciate him when he was here,
but he's left
and he's talked about us,
made jokes about us.
Don't come on here and say
how much you like the Kentucky fans.
I remember every little
snarky remark he's made.
I ain't,
mm-mm.
That might as well had Christian Raitner and him call in.
I don't find that entertaining.
I don't find it entertaining at all.
And it was insulting.
It's insulting to Matt.
It's disgusting to everybody.
Oh, I'll come on the show now.
And to pray to Tito and to talk bad about Cal, oh, God.
And we are morally correct.
We are morally correct.
But Marcia, isn't Cal as well?
Salman, too?
Yeah.
But he sure is.
But he ain't telling me that he's a good person.
He is a good person.
Petino is scum.
He had sex with a woman in a restaurant.
And another woman went to prison.
A woman left her four children and went to prison over that scumb bag.
Marcia, you...
Well, don't compare John and...
And Rick.
I want you to go for a nice long walk today, have a little lemonade, and we love you,
and you are without a doubt our whiskey thief's Don Franklin call of the day.
You got Ryan befuddled after that.
Yeah, that is the Don Franklin maybe call of the year, so thank you, Marcia.
I love you guys.
All right.
All right.
Keep that L's down energy, Mars.
Mars is fired up right now.
And we knew we knew how she felt before she even started.
That's why he's not going to win everyone.
The young people are going to have a problem, and there's many marshes out there, too,
that don't want to hear it.
We got time for another to squeeze one.
One more on, Shannon.
Let's go to Evan.
Evan, go ahead, Evan.
Guys, I don't, maybe I missed this,
but we need to find out when he donated to the football program
because that has got to be one of the most fightful things
against Cal Perry that I have heard that he has done.
And they go back a long time.
Well, appreciate it.
Yeah, I appreciate the call.
Agreed.
That was the biggest draw dropper yesterday
He's friends with Mark Stoops and Eddie Grand
And donated to the NIL fund
I don't know when it was
But Adam Zagoria tweeted that it was $15,000
So he
So we know the amount somehow
Yeah, Adam Zagori tweeted that yesterday
It didn't say when he did it
But he had that info
Is Adam Zagory the one that shook Shannon's finger?
No, no, no, no, no
I thought I was him
I don't even know that guy's name
There's some politician, right?
Yeah
Oh, it wasn't Zagoria.
No, it wasn't Zagoria.
Okay.
That was politics.
Zagoria's a basketball guy in New York.
You're on the A-Visaglass Tech Machine.
Patino can babble all he wants.
He can say all the right things, but that L tattoo says it all.
And I think that's a lot of sticking point with everybody.
You know, yeah, we can, you know, you can like you for what you did here, but you
betrayed us.
You went to Louisville and you have a tattooed and prove it.
Instead of the, or at the 30th reunion, instead of making him the Y, I think he goes
to mid-court.
Mitch Barnhart meets him there and says, take the shot.
off and then we roll out a little tattoo machine and we touch that we touch that thing up he doesn't
have to take it off he's a little old we don't know how to handle that but we can certainly cover
it up with something that's all right we come back michael and malachi marino will join us they're
in the house two basketball superstars from right up the road in georgetown we'll be right back

Here's Matt Jones.
All right, welcome back.
Kentucky Sports Radio live here at KS. Bar and Grill.
Going out and join us for lunch this afternoon.
We open at 11 o'clock.
Ryan Drew and Shannon here.
And we've got two special guests joining us now.
The Marino brothers from Georgetown, Michael Marino,
who just finished one of the greatest careers in the history of EKU basketball.
And little brother, little seven-foot brother, Malachi Marino.
Little brother ducked through the door on his way in.
I don't know what's ever happened.
Somebody ducked to the door to come here.
Drew, I got to tell a little story about them first when we talked to them.
Okay, yeah.
I've known them both since they were, like, little.
Oh, yeah.
I did the eighth grade state basketball tournament at KBA when one Michael Marino was named the MVP of the state tournament.
I was doing the PA for that game.
You mean I don't know that.
I didn't know, and so somebody told me later on, but I remember that.
Oh, yeah.
And I made the comment later, I said he's the next big stud to come out of this area when I saw you as an eighth grader.
Well, people expect or respect your vision on.
that did you see the future for either one of these at that young age?
Michael, I told him.
I said people said he's going to be the next big stud to come out of this area.
And, of course, he than he was.
Now Malachi, you're the same age as my son.
So my son has played against you for years.
Josiah Lemon goes to Frederick Douglass.
Gotcha.
So summer ball, all those summer ball tournaments and stuff.
So I've seen you develop probably since you were fifth grade, sixth grade,
all the way to where you are now.
So I know you don't know me, but I know you guys just from seeing you on the basketball
court.
but Michael, he plays at Great Crossing.
You're a Scott County guy.
How is he playing at Great Crossing across the street there?
You know, it was when Coach Hicks left, it kind of was left up in arms,
and he decided he wanted to take his own route.
He wanted to make his own name.
And, you know, I respected that because as a young, I'm not a younger brother,
but as a younger brother, I feel it would be hard to walk into a gym every day
and see a picture of your brother and, you know, everything up there to sit and chase.
Like, he can chase and make his own thing.
He can set the standard at a new school.
So I think it was important for him to be able to do that.
Well, to that point, I had this.
on my list of questions I'll get right to it.
You're still at Great Crossing going into your next season.
You had opportunities to really do whatever you wanted,
being as highly rated and sought after you are.
Malakow, what went into sticking with a Great Crossing after he just explained
how you got there in the first place and now you're going to finish the job there?
I just had a long talk with my family and mostly talked to my brother,
and we just sat down and we decided that staying home would probably be best for me
because, I mean, I'm one of the top centers in the country,
one of the top players in the country.
And I did all that at my regular high school.
So, I mean, I got what I mostly wanted being at high school.
And, yes, prep school helps you develop for college.
But I think it's all a mental mindset.
Like, when I get to college, I know who I'm going to be out.
Now that I see him here, your AD, he's a Madisonville Maroon.
I went to high school with him.
And many listeners, they probably don't care about our Madisonville Maroon's connection.
But how about this guy here?
He's probably been a critical role in getting you to this point to date.
Oh, yeah, that's my guy.
I see him every day.
He's a pretty good lineman back in high school.
Oh, was he?
Part of the night trains.
You've had a heck of a summer.
You were over in Italy playing representing Team USA.
You got your USA basketball shirt on now.
How cool was that for you?
I mean, it was really cool.
It was crazy.
He was one of the guys that was drafted in the first round, Nicola Toppich.
I played against them in Italy.
So I thought that was pretty cool.
And, I mean, my head coach was Jason Terry.
So we had, it was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot of new concepts about
the game, but I'll also learn how they play the game over there, and it shows that overseas
is, like, on the Uprice.
Like, they play the game so much more smooth and so much more, like, with more pace than it does
in the USA.
You've been shining in these showcase events in just Top 100 earlier this month on three.
We named you one of the top overall performers, had, like, 18 a game, somewhere in there.
Was there a certain event at a certain age or anywhere where you started noticing, all right,
I can play with anyone because you're doing it now.
but was there a certain maybe a game or someone you were going against
or somewhere you were when you had that realization?
That's tough.
I'd probably have to go with my freshman year.
We practiced.
So I played Indiana Elite, and the grade before me was Travis and Flory, right?
And I always had to guard Flory in practice.
And with Florey being the number one being in the country,
I took a challenge to that.
And I kept them one day without scoring.
and I was like, yeah, maybe I can do this,
and I can, you know, be the best center in the country.
So that's what I'm on the way to do now.
Michael, what are you doing now that your EKU career is over?
What's next for you?
Where are you going to play?
Just figuring out, Western Europe is the ideal destination.
A few countries over there I'm in talks with.
And we're just kind of figuring that all out.
It's worth that for me to be able to go and, you know, chase my dream.
That would be great.
But also, you know, as a, you know, the thing I've been telling people a lot,
the hardest part about love is sacrifice.
You know, my younger brother was the whole reason why, you know, I ended up staying in Kentucky for college and everything.
Really?
So, you know, it's, I didn't really want to live the most important years of his life up to date through a phone and through videos and everything else.
I wanted to be present for that.
Dude, what a big brother, man.
How awesome is that?
So it was important to me to stick around.
So, you know, going into literally the most important year of his life and the last year of his, you know, his child life, you know, being a kid, you know, getting to enjoy experiences and everything.
You know, it can be hard to think about.
ultimately you got to weigh options and do what's best for yourself.
So I feel like I prepared him enough now and, you know, giving him enough guidance.
And he knows he can always call me.
We can grow up to where I am.
But, you know, it's up in the air right now.
So just looking ahead and kind of weighing options.
Are there any certain things?
Like you said, you stayed home, didn't go far from Scott County at Eastern.
And you didn't just play there.
One of the all-time greats will add.
But is there anything in particular you've told him throughout the process as he's kind of going through the same thing?
I'm sure he's feeling lots of pressure from Kentucky fans around here.
Absolutely.
Any guidance you've been given him in particular?
Biggest thing I told him is, man, you've got to go where you're wanting
and where you're going to develop.
Because in today's world, you know, people can offer you a lot.
You know, at the level he's going to play, I didn't experience that level.
When NIO wasn't in whenever I was coming through recruitment,
so it's a much different space now.
But understanding, you know, it's still about development.
It's still about where you wanted and where you're going to be loved
and where you're going to be, you know, truly pushed to develop
because you ultimately want to achieve a dream,
and his dream is to be in the NBA.
So you talked about staying here just to be around him,
But how was it? You're going through your career and you've got little brother.
I mean, flip it the same way. What was it like? Did he help you at all?
You stay at home? And I know he wasn't quite into his journey as now.
But what was it like just having kid brother around as you were going through your college career?
It was great. It was all worth it. It would have been worth it regardless.
If you never panned out, if he never grew up, you know, all this stuff never happened.
All the blessings are never bestowed upon him.
It still would have been worth it because he's grown up into a fine young man and he's been able to really develop into good human being.
And that's more important than anything.
So have an opportunity to kind of watch that unfold up close.
rather than through a phone. It was much value to me and it made my decision that much better for me. I was at peace with it at the beginning, but you know, I was hoping that well, maybe he's going to use this opportunity. He's been able to use me as a resource and that's been really important to me. So you, Malachi, you were at UK this last week. Got to meet coach Pope, kind of do an official visit. Got your picture with him, you guys reflects. What did you, what's your takeaway from that? It was a great visit and I mean, he's a big, he's a bigger guy, so he knows how to coach big,
and I think that's one message he tried to push towards me just like he knows how to coach
big men my size and really improving I really develop my game and help me like stay in the NBA
and like keep up as the game's going so that was one of the major pushes he put like on me
while I was on my visit we keep hearing about this energy and he's done that flex photo with a couple
people we keep hearing everyone understands the excitement can you just kind of translate what that
was like this energy we keep hearing about about how the moment you're with him it's just it's
Let's go.
I mean, you all are all over the place.
He's taking in Roperino these days.
It seems like just the Pope experience is something in itself.
It is a little different.
Like, I've never had like that kind of, I mean, I've been on a lot of visits,
but he just had so much energy from when you stepped in the door to when you walked out the door.
So like, and it was just consistent.
And it was a new site for me because, I mean, when Cal was there wasn't necessarily that much energy.
Like, he wasn't like, oh, let's go, you know.
He was like, all right.
let's sit down, let's talk.
In defense, though, when you look at Cal has been season,
this was hit 14th, 15th year he'd been at Kentucky,
and he's, you know, he's been able to put together a really good product
for kids like him who's really, you know, dream is to achieve,
you know, being the NBA.
Yeah.
Pope is, he's fresh.
He's wanting to get, you know, get things rolling,
get things started and rejuvenate life into the fan base into the players.
So, you know, I think it's two totally separate situations
where they both, you know, can benefit in different ways.
Now, the Pope has made no secret.
about it. You and Jasper Johnson, he's made kind of priorities. And they're going after you guys hard.
I think there would be you two big time recruits out of our backyard. You know, Jasper lives here.
You live right up Road in Georgetown. I think they're going to go put everything they can do to
kind of convince you guys to come to Kentucky. Yeah. They just said that they want to keep in-state talent,
in-state. And they, uh, we, I actually had to talk with, uh, with Travis and Trent. And they were
just telling me how much they loved it and how much the BBN loves them. And,
Just they told me there's no place like home, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.
You just trim your list to eight schools.
You don't have to go through all eight of them right now.
But what are some visits you've already done, or maybe you have some coming up,
if you want to name a few other schools you're considering?
So of that list, I visited everywhere except Louisville.
And Carolina, North Carolina.
Oh, I haven't been North Carolina either.
But I plan to visit those schools once the summer dies down.
And, I mean, every visit has its own nice little perk.
Like at Norderdame, they're on the lake.
They have the big cathedral covered in gold, and I thought that was really cool.
They touched on Jesus, which I thought was cool.
At Arkansas, I mean, it's Woo Pig.
Like, I have family in Arkansas, so that was pretty cool.
I was able to share that moment with them.
And then just taking my mom with me everywhere, taking my brother with me to some of these visits.
It's just been great.
Being in Georgetown, though, you're surrounded by the blue.
How are you able to kind of set aside the environment around you?
and really focus on your decision because I'm sure you're being pulled one direction.
Yeah.
I sort of just try to keep it in-house and keep it within my circle,
just talking with my brother, my mom, my dad, just my family members,
and just making the most educated decision, but the best decision for me.
Did your dad play football at Georgetown College?
He played basketball.
Basketball at Georgetown College.
So he came from Columbia, South America.
He was a two-time national player of the year there.
And the rules in the States is if you play.
professionally overseas you have to come back then you had to come to NAA so he went to
NIA and played a georchon under happy happy Osborne and the rest is history so I didn't
realize you go on a lot of these visits and what's your role do you try to be are you
are you strictly big brother or you like trying to give some advice like okay do this ask
that you know see what this coach thinks about this try to play you know a bit of
bow I got to wear a lot of hats yeah I'd where I said I've been through it not on this
grand of a scale but I've been through it I understand recruiting and understand
and the vision that all these coaches want to sell.
And on this scale, in this age, they can put a lot in front of you.
And, you know, being able to navigate that, I feel like it's important.
You can't get wooed by it, you know, too early.
At 17, if I would have been, you know, placed the opportunities in front of me that he's got,
it would have been totally night and day different, you know.
But for him, you know, it's not only, it's a great experience to see him in that element
and to see him receive that love and that opportunity.
But ultimately at the end of the day, I just tell them, look, man, you know, it's not about what you think about when you're on the visits.
What you think about when you're sitting at home, you know, by yourself, and it's, man, it consumes you.
It's something that you know, you know, you know, you know, it's where you want to be.
It's not, you know, when you're there, they can show you everything.
You want to see, tell you everything you want to hear.
But when you're at home, what are you really thinking about, man?
Like, what are you really thinking about when you're in the gym shooting?
Like, where do I really want to be?
And when you pray about it, you know, where does God tell you you want to be?
What great advice?
I want him to be my big brother.
Exactly.
Follow me around and give me advice like that.
Yeah, got a good guy leading him around.
Malachi, you're at an age where everyone wants to evaluate you, write a scouting report about it, you say how good you are, how good you're not.
No one knows you better than you.
So can you just give us a scouting report on your game and how you think you play, maybe strengths and weaknesses, however you want to break it down.
But we want to hear it straight from you.
I'd say I'm like your natural, like, stretch five.
I've improved my shot a lot since I started this process.
us and with the way the NBA is going, bigs are able to handle the ball and shoot the three,
so that's what I've been working on the most.
Most of my strengths would probably be just my back to the basketball and my passing.
I'd say those are my two strengths and my weaknesses, which I don't like to say weaknesses.
I'd say things I can get better at.
I'd probably say, my apologies.
It's all good.
I'd say I'd probably say my physicality or just my overall shooting.
I'd say that's what's mostly needs to be improved on over the summer and over the next
season so when I get to college I'm ready to go.
And Michael, you probably know him second, his game, second best, probably been playing him
for a long time.
You don't have to give a scattering report, but is there a story?
Maybe when you were little, maybe recently where you two were playing ball together?
Was there a moment where maybe he got you and you realized little brother's not little brother
anymore?
I'll tell the truth on this.
This is a perfect place to do it, you know, to make him feel good.
You know, for the most of his life, I've been, you know, just physically dominate him.
And the strength is always going to be that.
I don't see him for a while ever being able to just truly manhandle me.
Like it's a big brother thing.
You can't let that happen.
But as he started to grow, he passed me up during COVID.
And we played one-on-one a few times after when I can be around.
And, you know, at this point, when I play him on the perimeter, I can get by him.
I can still, you know, create angles.
I can use my size, my strength.
But when we get down to the post and we play one-on-one with the post entry, you know, I can sit there.
And he can't push me under the rim or anything.
I can hold my spot, but if I can let him get, you know, a certain angle.
As soon as he shoots, I just got to put my hand up and hope, you know, hey,
and that's kind of the perspective I have now is like he's better.
He is better now than I was.
And I was really productive in high school.
I was able to do.
Oh, yeah.
You were a star.
But he's better now than I was, and he will be better in a year than I ever will be.
And I think that's a testament to not only him being able to see it happen.
I think it almost was the perfect storm because he was able to see me excel on a smaller scale and understand, okay, well, you know, if I do this properly, I figured out what to do, what not to do, and now I'm seven feet tall.
So he's got a real chance to understand now. I can take this to a really, really high level.
But for him, I think he nailed a scouting report. I think he's on the right track.
I think, you know, translatable skills, shooting in today's world, passing, you know, being able to fit, that translates.
You know, there's certain styles that may be better fit for you, but, you know, shooting, passing, and then just defensive versatility.
If he can get out and switch on the guards consistently, I think that's, you know, that's going to take them and separate them.
Because once you get to college at this level, it's, you know, it's little things that separates.
You can't, you know, people are very athletic.
You're never going to be the most athletic guy in the gym.
You're not, I mean, well, you might be the tallest.
guy in the gym but you know there's only certain things that can truly separate you and just a lot more
little things and big things so the guys they can shoot and pass that sounds this is a system somewhere
nearby i believe mark pope would like to him that guys look we can't thank you enough i mean this is
really been fun to kind of have both of you here and kind of talk about your future good luck to you
playing overseas michael and good luck to you as you break down your senior year try to take great
crossing to a state title this year so you guys have done george the city of georgettown proud the
County of Scott County proud.
So you're good representatives and good ambassadors for both of your community.

We'll take our break.
Come back.
We got a lot more coming up.
I'll Kentucky Sports Radio.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what
happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo.
Every episode, we're cutting through the noise.
Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind.
the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker
room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs,
the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer
beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context and ask the questions everybody
wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who
live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist,
Keer Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of
my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests.
I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough
because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.
Join me, Kear Gaines,
as we have real conversations about healing,
growth, fatherhood, pressure,
and purpose on my new podcast.

Life throws hurdles big and small.
The question is, how do you conquer them?
On hurdle with Emily Abadi,
we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions
to talk about the challenges that shaped them
and the mindset that keeps them going.
From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin,
and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you,
but don't ever feel like you don't feel on.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke.
The ability to show a gold medal to someone
and have their face light up and smile,
that means the world to me.
And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.
At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Like, I can do anything.
I can do anything.
Because resilience isn't just about winning.
It's about showing up, even when it's hard.

Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect.
We were God's chosen kingdom on earth.
He felt destined for greatness.
So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapulted Jacob into an extraordinary
world, he doesn't look back.
Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets,
meeting the president of Turkey.
I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come
across.
When Jacob met Levant, this went to a billion dollar fraud.
But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive?
The largest tax investigation in American history.
You need to tell me what you know.
is somebody coming after me.
Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

All right, welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio, Ryan, Drew and Shannon.
This end from the A Vision Glass text machine from our good friend Casey.
Good morning, fellas.
This interview with the brothers is amazing.
I love how protective the big brother is.
You can just tell love, great radio.
You could see that.
Like Michael takes great pride in being a good, big brother for what Malachi is going through right now.
Yeah, and he, to a certain extent, has gone through it, going to Scott County and staying here at Eastern, had a great career.
Yep.
We didn't even really get to talk about that.
I wanted to ask him about AW Hamilton because they played a fun brand of basketball.
I think I led to him scoring 1,500 points.
He just told me off air.
He's like, kind of sees a little of that in Pope, kind of energy guys, you know, the way they run their offense.
So that was interesting to hear it.
We got a show coming up in September, Shannon, I believe, the new Draft King sportsbook in Bowling Green.
They kind of sent us that note.
Did you get that note?
I saw that.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to that.
It should be a lot of fun.
We had a great time opening up the other one.
Where was the location?
I'm trying to remember.
We're the Mint.
The Mint.
Down by Corbyn Williamsburg.
Yeah, yeah, that was a lot of fun.
So looking forward to doing that in Bowling Green in September.
So Draft Kings, for all your sports betting needs.
I mean, you can bet on the Reds to lose now probably every game, although they do have a really good schedule coming up.
They got a schedule that favors them.
They might actually get back on the winning track now.
You can bet them on Draft Kings.
We actually need to talk about how we're going to parlay now
because I was an NBA guy and it's over.
So, I mean, boys, what do you want?
Snooker, baseball?
I mean, we got the Euros going on.
Darts?
Maybe like a...
You all tell me.
That's what we should do.
Like one baseball game, one darts,
and you said snooker on the other?
Like, let's do like a three-game parlay.
Do you do any golf stuff?
Oh, yeah, a golf parlay.
laser phone we could definitely do that we'd have to get that in on a on a Wednesday or you know
before the tournament starts yeah but I'm just you know that's what we're going to run into coming
up we get UFC 303 that's the big thing they're promoting right now you bet five dollars
with promo code Ksr you get 150 instantly in bonus bets look at that guy there you go
that's what I need to know all right Trimble counties on the clock do are we ready to
do Trimble County we come back after the commercial break no ready it's I it's not that I
didn't do my homework I don't have notes it's just that I
wish I had more substance within my notes.
So I'm hoping we get a call.
So we need a call from Tribal County.
The Clark's Publ Shop phone number is 859-2-2-287.
Do you think we'll get one?
We got a little Bedford, little Milton.
Who up, Bedford?
Those are the two cities right there.
Yeah, I mean, it's less than an hour away from Louisville, which is, you know, big city.
So I feel like Trimble County, we'd be already getting a call from there.
It's not out in the middle of nowhere.
All right, you just named the county seat and how far it is from Louisville.
I'm running out of notes, boys.
Stop.
Stop right now.
Sorry.
Didn't mean to steal you.
And Drew and I were bartenders here Wednesday night for the NBA draft.
That's a lot of fun.
We haven't talked about the draft much.
No, we'll get to that.
Kyle Philpowski's in the news.
We've got to definitely get to that news.
So we'll talk a lot of basketball and do Trimble County when we come back.
Here right here on Kentucky Sports Radio.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest.
S&L's Mikey Day and headwriter Streeter Seidel
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hardway with your favorite therapist and host
care games. This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that
it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows
what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor? It signals to the world that you're not
to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to,
