Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.

Now, here's Matt Jones.
It ain't Matt Jones.
Myra Metcalf, Black Jones here for another Monday.
I didn't know if I'd make it this many Mondays, Drew.
I didn't know.
I didn't know if like by the third Monday,
the whole Reed Shepherd tweet thing would come back to haunt me.
People would call in and demand.
that they didn't want me on the show anymore.
I didn't know what was going to happen, man.
But I'm glad to be back, man.
How are you doing?
I'm doing great.
And to be honest, when Matt said he was leaving us alone for 10 weeks,
I didn't know if we'd make it to July.
So congratulations.
Look at us.
Last week was the turn.
It was week five.
So now we're on the back half of the Matt vacation.
We're rolling.
We didn't burn down the house, right?
I mean, you got like, you know, the parents out of time, you know.
You didn't burn down the house.
And that is, you know, that is certainly success on another level, man.
So happy Monday, Merry Monday to everybody who partakes of this new tradition, man.
It's been a fun weekend.
I'm sure if you're a Kentucky fan, I told you I'm a big track and field guy, right?
I love track and field.
I don't know if you saw the Olympic trials with Sidney McLaughlin.
I don't know if you watched it.
If Sydney's running, Kentucky fans are watching.
Any time we can watch some Go Sid Go, I think a lot of Kentucky fans were tuned in last night.
Okay, let me tell you how ridiculous.
this woman is, right?
So I watched all the races.
I watched the opening heat, the semifinals,
and then I watched the championship, right?
So after the opening heat, they interview Sidney McLaughlin
and they're like, hey, how do you think you did?
And she was like, well, I was just kind of getting loose.
All right?
Now, mind you, getting loose for Sidney McLaughlin,
it was the fastest time in the world this year.
This is the opening heat.
And she's jogging to the finish line.
But she's like, all right, let's see what happens the next day.
Semites, she goes.
She's like, you know what?
That was okay.
I think I'm going to really run on Sunday.
What?
Look, what do you mean?
You just already ran the fastest time in the world.
In the opening heat, she ran a time that only six women in the history of track and field had ever run.
And this is just her, you know, getting loose.
This is my, I'm going to break a sweat.
This is, but this is, it's like, it's like, what do we do it?
She's that talented that for her, she's like, right now I'll go into the next year.
And then yesterday, she breaks the world record, which was her own world record, 50.65, the fastest human being in the, can you imagine that, Drew, can you imagine, it's one thing being like the best, I wanted to be the best dude in my neighbor.
at something, the best guy at my school.
Could you imagine being the greatest of all time, of all humanity at something?
That'd be pretty crazy, right?
I can't imagine that.
And then in her case, I can't imagine my 70% effort being the best of all time.
When she broke that record last night, they were like, this is her fifth time breaking
the world record.
I mean, one's usually good enough breaking a world record.
She's just going to keep setting it.
And then she said afterwards she wants to get under 50, like she's trying to
things figuring stuff out. So you're already
the best in the world, but you're just experimenting
a little bit. You're toying with us. You haven't really
finished, completed your craft
the way you want to. She's going to do a sub-50
before she's done. What do you
do when you're lined up next to her?
I mean, like, what is that? You know
it's second place. You know it's a race for second place.
You know what I mean? Like, how do you
get excited? Like, if you
go to your people, you're like, listen, man, I'm racing
and you're like, okay, who's in the race?
You know, it's her. It's her.
And Sidney McLaughlin is in.
your people know what's about to happen.
You're not coming back with the gold.
I know you worked hard, but you're not getting the gold.
And that's okay, but you've got to understand that.
As a competitor, you're supposed to have that fire anyone, anytime, any place.
But I think in that scenario, it's perfectly fine to ask for a selfie, ask for an autograph.
Start talking trash to everyone else about how it's your silver trophy.
You're ignoring her.
She's not even there.
I think you're in a competition for silver and you just have to look at it that way.
Like when Kentucky football plays, say, a Georgia, you want that mentality.
It's just Georgia.
They put their pants on the same way.
You usually lose that one, but you go in with that attitude.
I don't know how you find that fire within you when you're lined up next to Sydney on a track.
You know how I would act, Drew, in that situation?
I would act like you ever seen a dude on like a hundred-yard kick return?
And there's that one dude who's kind of running next to him, pretending like he's blocking.
You know what I mean?
Like just kind of doing the look around things.
back.
Put a hand.
He'll put a hand.
He'll put a hand.
You know, he'll do that.
He's the first one to celebrate with him.
I would run it like that next to her.
Like I would run, you know, like you know the dude who blocks the NASCAR, right?
Like a dude who block for his team.
I would do it like that.
Whereas Sidney's like, you know, 20 feet ahead of me, I'm looking around like, hey, nobody
get close to her.
You know what I mean?
Like I'm almost her protector.
That's how I would run.
And then as soon as she won the world record, I'm getting into the shot.
So I'm the first one to hug her.
Right?
You know what I mean?
She's crying and celebrating.
I'm right there crying too.
So I'm on camera too as her biggest support because I don't know what else you do.
If she's running, you're not winning.
That's just the bottom line.
I know we tell everybody they can do anything.
You can't beat Sidney McLaughlin in the 400 meter hurdles.
You actually can.
So you can get second place, but you're not winning.
You're not winning if she's in the race.
This is not going to happen.
I love that strategy.
Like the DB taking the interception back where the safety is acting like he did everything.
too. So you're saying I could be
with a completely different country. I'm wearing
Russia gear, but I'm acting like that's my teammate and we did this
together. You said within 20 feet. I don't think we're getting it within
20 feet of her, but just somewhere in the widescreen
shot, we want to be a part of it. Because yesterday
in that race, if you had just turned it on halfway through, you didn't
see other people racing Sydney. You probably thought, oh,
she's out practicing, a little time trial.
She is. She's so now turned it into golf.
She's out there by herself playing her own sport.
Yeah, and now, like I said, you got to make sure everybody knows.
And I'm also going to be dramatic at the finish, too, Drew.
Like, okay, she's 50 feet ahead or whatever she is.
I'm going to run so fast to the finish line that I do the tumble thing.
You know what I mean?
Like I run full speed.
Like I'm just giving everything I have and I get to the finish line.
And I've given everything I got and I just end up doing like a cartwheel, you know, like a forward roll.
And then I'm on, like I'm on the track.
and I'm like hands spread wide
and I'm breathing hard
I'm crying
you know I'm going to be dramatic
because listen
she's getting all the attention
she deserves it
but I got to make sure people
at least knew I run
like I ran the race next to her man
right
us in Kentucky as fans
I feel like we're going to do this
just when Sydney's in the Olympics
we are going to claim
we should claim she was a Kentucky Wildcat
but we're really going to emphasize
that Kentucky stuff
because she's already
in the commercials
we're about to see her on everything.
She's going to be the face of the Olympics.
Wouldn't mind her throwing on a little UK logo,
maybe in warm-ups here and there.
Kentucky fans, we're very proud of her.
And same with Messiah Russell, who was awesome last night,
some of the others that are in Olympics,
going to have a good big blue showing in Paris.
I mean, it's a legit, you know,
and I'm a track and field guy ran track in college.
Like, it's a very respected program in track and field.
You know what I mean?
The SEC is different in general,
but, you know, it's always interesting.
I think we maybe talked about this
in earlier shows.
You see a football dude,
you know,
you're like,
that dude's fast,
right?
You see a guy like 50-yard touchdown,
running down the field.
They're like,
oh, my,
this might be the fastest guy I've ever seen.
And then you see track people,
and you're like,
okay,
that's a little,
that's a little bit different.
You know what I mean?
And that's what you're dealing with,
uh,
with athletes at that level.
And again,
Sydney,
like legitimately competing against herself.
And also,
this is three years after
her first
I think her third Olympics I believe
because I think she ran
as a high schooler
but like
you've had all these years
to try to get closer to Sydney
and she's not running
next to
she's running next to the fastest human beings
in the entire world
right
and yet she's just that much better
so I mean I commend her
I'm a huge fan
I've been a huge fan of hers
but to watch her
go for
it and now she's like, yeah, maybe I'll do even better than this.
Like maybe I wouldn't run the next one.
I don't know.
Like maybe you get to the Olympics, Drew, and you're Brazil, right?
Maybe you're like, you know what?
Oh, man, I'm walking to the track, pull the hamstring, right?
Pull the hamstring.
I'm sorry, I try, but I'm not going to be able to run.
Looks like my hamstring ain't working.
Would that be an honorable thing to do, you think, when you see Sidney McLaughlin?
How would you handle that?
I wasn't going to fake the injury.
Is it possible?
I guess in track this doesn't work.
I was going to intentionally try to get lapped so that even though I'm a lap behind her,
I'm running next to her near the finish line.
Maybe I trip and fall early and hope she catches up with me coming the long way.
The thing that really put my mind yesterday is I saw a tweet,
you're the track expert.
Tell me if this is a lie because it seems like a lie.
But she would have beaten four people in just the 400 meters that didn't have hurdles.
Like her with hurdles, them not having hurdles.
She still would have been for, that's insanity.
How is that possible?
Listen, it's true.
And again, I said this on the last show.
Sidney McLaughlin, you could make the case,
is the greatest athlete in the world right now.
I know that sounds like an exaggeration.
Because people go, wait a minute.
I've seen these guys in the NBA.
I've seen these.
This would be like if a player in the NBA
was the best three-point shooter in the NBA,
the best post player, and also the best defender,
like that just doesn't happen.
but that's what she is.
She ran, she obviously has a world record in the 400 meter hurdles.
She has run a top three time in the world in the 400 meters just messing around.
Doesn't even do it for real.
Just messing around, right?
She's ran the fastest 200 meter dash in the world.
Again, messing around.
Not even her event.
And here's the other thing I've heard.
She can long jump.
She ain't going to do it.
But like she can.
So you are legitimately talking about someone.
who is arguably the most dominant athlete in the world right now.
If by dominance is how far a person is ahead of the competition,
like you could legitimately make a case that Sidney McLaughlin
is the greatest athlete in the world right now,
and I think the Paris Olympics will prove that.
And she's only 24, and we're going to get maybe another Olympics out of her,
and I think at that point I want to see her do other stuff.
Put it in the pool.
Put her on the basketball court.
I mean, she's already too good at track.
She's ruined those sports for everyone else.
Let them have track and fill without her.
let's see her do gymnastics.
All of them.
Just Sydney does Olympic sports and see which one she's good at.
I watch the show.
I've watched the show.
I watch the show.
I'm there every Tuesday night.
You tell me Sydney tries whatever the sport is.
I'm there.
What's that thing in the winter Olympics, man,
where they get on skis and shoot it stuff?
You know what I'm talking about?
They got this thing, man.
Now, that's complicated.
Right there, Drew.
That's complicated.
Like I would commit probably a felony by accident if I was in that.
But like on skis, they're shooting at targets.
You don't know what it's called?
Wikipedia is telling me it's called the biathlon.
Is that the name that doesn't sound right?
The biathlon.
As if skiing alone wasn't hard enough.
Now you're firing at targets on top of it, but I tell you what, if you told me Sydney was in
it, she could do it.
But I would watch that show.
Sydney tries whatever she wants to try because legitimately at 24, she's on top of the world.
And you've got to appreciate and respect someone who,
had the world record, could have just said out,
I'll go get another gold,
but it was like, nah, I'm going to be even faster than I was.
You know, for me, I think maybe I cut across the field.
And I'm just there at the end.
And then I'm racing to the finish line with Sydney.
And you know what I mean?
It's illegal.
I'm getting disqualified.
But at least I'm right there with her and I'm in the shot.
I did that in a 5K one time.
It's called the color run.
Did you?
And they like throw paint on you every so often.
but my buddy and now we cut a corner
and we get to the finish line
and everyone notices we're only red
and that's how we got caught
because everyone else is rainbow-colored
we had only run a small part of the track
but I like that. I like that strategy.
Also I think we produced a show for NBC
four years from now. Sydney
just tries Olympic sports and Snoop Dog
is the announcer and we just watch her trial
of them. Snoop Dog would be there.
I feel like Snoop Dogg's going to live
to be like 120
and he's still going to be like culturally
relevant somehow. He's just still going to
be there. I'd love to see him commentate
whatever Sidney McLaughlin does. I mean, I'm a
Olympics nerd
and to watch that was like,
my goodness. Like,
how do you even do that? I felt bad
a couple days ago.
I think the woman's name is a Ting Mo.
800 meter dash runner.
I don't know if you saw this, Drew.
She's the fastest in the world. She has been.
Hasn't been as good this year. But in the past, fastest
woman in America, she
goes in to get her position, trips
and falls. Right?
out of the race, right?
Doesn't finish, doesn't qualify for the Olympics.
Her team appeals.
The Olympic Committee says incidental contact, you know what I mean?
Like, sorry, we're not going to reverse the results.
And there was this argument.
I don't know if you know this, Drew.
You have to win the trials or be top three in the trials in most track and field sports in America
to advance to the Olympics.
Other countries don't do that.
Other countries just send their best.
Like, they may have a trial system, but if you're the best,
you're going.
So a lot of people are wondering, do we switch to that model?
Do you say, like if Sidney McLaughlin had tripped over a hurdle yesterday and doesn't qualify for the Olympics,
do you still send her in the event?
You know what I mean?
Because you don't have to do the trials.
It's kind of like the automatic qualified tournaments in college basketball.
You don't have to hold a conference tournament.
People don't know that.
Leagues do it, but you don't have to.
So I wonder if that's a model that people would support.
Send your best no matter what.
I kind of like the idea of that.
I might have said no when you first asked me,
but if you bring up a scenario where Sydney's trips over a shoelace
and she doesn't get to go to Paris, then we riot.
Like Sydney has to be representing America in Paris.
So yes, that rule needs to change.
And the woman you said, sorry, didn't catch the name,
but I feel like already, let's get her in.
If she's that good and she just had a bad trial,
we got to get that changed.
We need our best of our best.
That's how it should be.
I mean, that's how it should be.
And again, that scenario is real.
If Sidney McLaughlin had tripped over a hurdle and not finished top three in the trials last night,
Sidney McLaughlin would not have represented the United States in the event where she has the world record.
That seems a little bizarre to me, man.
Like that seems a little bit like, you know what?
I'm not saying that we have to copy everybody's model.
But if other countries are saying our best are going to go no matter what,
I kind of feel like we have to have that attitude in certain.
situations. Like, could you imagine that happening, man? If Sydney had had a bad day and doesn't go
to Paris, like that would be really unfair. We're going to talk more sports and everything else

Oh yeah.
It was always 48 easy payments
and $990.
How do you know it's an easy payment
for me?
You don't know what $999 means to me.
How dare you, right?
But it was always like 48 easy payments
and $999 and you get like 85 CDs.
You know what I mean?
Like so that's kind of how I feel like I sound
whenever I read ads
on the radio.
The worst part of those
was you'd fall asleep
and whatever song was playing
in that commercial
or maybe they're on a loop
and you know that commercial's on a loop
at 1 a.m.
You wake up and that song's just
in your head all morning
because it was just playing
in your ear while you're out.
Everything I know
about like 70s rock
probably, you know,
in like 60s and 70s country
came from those infomercials.
You know what I mean?
Like everything I know
because, you know,
and then they had a little video snippet
where the person would be singing.
That's how I fell for, like, who I learned a lot about Johnny Cash.
Johnny Cash became like one of my favorite artists.
I was like, this dude is cool.
Like the whole, like, kind of dark vibe.
I was really into that, man.
But I only knew it because of the 1 a.m. infomercial.
Now, that's what I call music.
I don't think, do they do that anymore?
They don't sell CDs anymore, right?
I don't think so.
There was a period where they tried to sell some DVDs at that hour.
We won't get into that.
But I remember they would play a music video,
But then there would be this scrolling of the track list.
You didn't get to hear all of them during the infomercial.
But what you're missing is scrolling on the left side of the screen,
while you're listening to whatever is on.
How would you feel if you were one of those artists where it's scrolling past your name,
but you're not featured?
They're not showing your video snippet of your song.
How would you feel about that?
Hunger.
It's like when you get that poster and you're the eight font,
and then you got the 10 font, the 12 font and the 20 font,
it's all about motivation.
I'm sure it's the same case for the infomercial.
It's got to be like if I'm you know,
Jermaine Jackson or Tito Jackson and like they just scroll past my name
and I see Michael,
you know what I mean?
They're showing his videos and they don't put me.
I would feel hungry.
I'd also feel a little offended, man.
Like, you know, why am I not worthy of you showing a concert, you know,
video of me performing even though I'm on the CD?
Let's hear you confess.
Did you ever order one of those CDs?
Did you, did you ever fork over the easy payments of not?
I ordered the.
stamps. What's that?
Where they mail you.
Oh, yeah, I remember that. I did that.
They got me good. They just started mailing me stuff.
I didn't want. Had to tell my parents, we got to get this thing cut off.
That one was trouble.
I ordered a nature video and didn't tell my dad.
And they just showed up like eight videos of like, you know, lions fighting gazelles and
cheetahs and stuff. And my dad was not pleased with that, man.
Because they dropped it off at the front door. I'm like, bro.
You know what I mean?
Can you just leave?
it silently somewhere and I'll come pick it up.
Why are you knocking on the door?
They knock, they drop off like eight videos and my dad is like, what on earth is, you know what
I mean?
I couldn't hide it.
I couldn't hide it.
So as much as people today are like, oh, I went online and I can't stop ordering, those
1 AM infomercials, man, with one number could change your whole life.
One phone call could change your whole life.
Now you got a subscription to a bunch of CDs for the next 15 years and, you know,
you can't stop it.
Because once you sign up, Drew,
You are just signed.
It's on.
I think I'm still getting mail at my old house I grew up in.
Because once they get those claws in you, when you buy that one CD, you're getting 50 more.
Yeah.
I think I think I just got a Culeo CD at my parents' house.
You know what I mean?
From whatever 19, whatever it was, man.
And then the crazy thing is, this is back in the day.
You didn't have to put a credit card on it.
You could just call and say send it.
They would bill you.
Right?
I mean, this is a, it was a wild, wild time.
We'll be back with more after this.

Here's Matt Jones.
Drew, obviously the big talk in the draft world has been Bronny James and whether or not he
deserved a spot. I saw him play. High school, college. I did a couple of brownie games for TV.
last year, average under five points a game, measured at 6-1, you know, didn't play for a good team.
USC struggled, but didn't really do anything to me that said NBA.
At the same time, the question I've asked myself since that conversation, which, you know,
I don't think he's done anything to deserve it, I tried to put myself in the bronze shoes,
right?
Would I do that for my kid, you know?
And that changes the conversation a little bit, right?
There's the conversation about whether or not Brony James deserves a spot with,
of all franchises, the Los Angeles Lakers, right?
It ain't like he's going to some, you know, small time team or minor league team.
But to play for the Lakers and to actually get drafted as a big deal doesn't deserve it,
in my opinion, in terms of what he's earned at the same time as a dad, Drew, that would be a complicated kind of thing.
Like, wait a minute, I get to play with my kid in this, like, historic,
moment, on the road with them, going around the country.
I could understand how LeBron would be like, okay, I don't care what anybody says.
This might be a cool experience.
Yeah, those are two different questions with two different answers for me.
If I'm the Lakers GM, I'm staying away because I'm trying to build for the future.
I'm thinking seriously about my own job.
I'm L.A.
It's been a while.
Well, we had the bubble title, but we need to get back to prominence.
But if I'm LeBron, if my kid's half as good as Bronny, I'm still.
trying to pull this off.
Just because you're LeBron, you already control the league, you're already getting your
way.
They were going to pick at, what was it, 55, I think.
They were going to get whatever LeBron said anyway if he had a strong thought.
And I don't blame it all for picking Bronny.
So I see it on both sides.
I don't think it was a good basketball move, but maybe it keeps LeBron happy.
Also, I went in kind of thinking, not worth a pick.
Then I watched that entire second round.
I'm like, never heard of that guy, never heard of that guy, never heard of that guy.
So it got to the point, I'm like, well, what am I arguing against if I don't even know who these other people are?
Yeah, there are a couple of dudes that they just made up.
They invented a couple of those dudes in the second round.
You know, I've never heard.
Those guys didn't play basketball.
You know what I mean?
Those are just names, I feel like some of those guys.
But yeah, I mean, Bob got picked right before Antonio Reeves.
Just a dude, Bob.
I'm like, how.
Antonio Reeves is on the board and Bob from Sweden's getting picked.
Bob.
Yeah, like, and I saw Bob.
He was there at the draft.
So he must have assumed he was going to get picked early.
And he wasn't.
I mean, there were a couple guys in the stands who ended up getting picked.
You know, they weren't invited to the official gathering.
So they just came to the stands with their families.
That's a risk, Drew.
If you get 20 family members to come out to the event and everybody's got to pay regular admission and sit in the stands,
you've got to be sure that you're going to get drafted in the first round at some point, right?
Because if you're not, all of that is null and void, right?
Oh, just think how uncomfortable that would be.
Because it's not just the suit and the hotel.
You've got a restaurant thinking you're showing up later that night with 30 people.
They've already got balloons.
They're waiting to write the official number on the board celebrating.
And then if you don't get drafted, you have to look around and just be like, I'm going home.
Good to see everyone.
I don't know what you are going to do.
That restaurant, I'm not going there and picking up that bill.
Everyone looks nice.
Sorry.
It'd be a problem.
I mean, Uncle Lee,
and put 30 hotel rooms on his
master card, right?
Now he's trying to collect everybody's fees.
You know what I mean?
Aunt Sheila's made cake.
She's got eight cakes at the hotel
that all say congratulations
on being drafted, and now you
don't get drafted. It's a problem. So you've got
to be pretty confident. What I appreciate
though is, you know, there's
something validating about walking down
from the stands. It's almost like
you didn't believe in me enough
to give me a fish
you know, whatever the official invitation is.
But now I'm in the stands and I'm going to crash the party.
It's kind of cool to kind of crash the party a little bit.
I feel like in that manner, you know what I mean?
It's become a little more common,
but I remember just the first couple times drafts years ago,
seeing a guy that wasn't in the green room in that first round
and they have to like climb over the railing.
I've always liked that.
Like they had so confident, so much confident themselves.
They bought a ticket.
The NBA doesn't even want them there.
They're just sitting with the Knicks fans up there.
drunk and booing.
And then they climb over.
I feel like some start.
Did Yonis do that?
I feel like there have been some big names.
Yonis says.
Yeah.
I'm a big fan of the people that shoot their shot and drag the family with them and it
pulls off.
Because you know there's a family member that does not want to go to New York City.
They don't want to put on a suit.
And they're already complaining the whole day anyway.
So you're glad you get to fall through with that moment.
They got there from the airport.
They could be complained about traffic.
You know what I mean?
This is nothing like Oklahoma.
I don't know why I'm here.
I had to take off two days of work, you know, so you got to deal with that.
So again, and you don't know that you're getting picked.
You haven't been official, and to your point, climbing over the railing.
Yeah, like they do like the undertaker entrance, right?
Like a lot of those guys, like they'll get to the railing, foot over the top rope kind of thing.
For me, though, I don't know if people took advantage of the moment the way that I would have.
If I would have walked down from the stairs, I would have made it like a wrestling entrance.
Like, I would have let the spotlight sit on me for about 30,
seconds with my arms folded and I just wouldn't move.
And I just look around at all the haters who didn't pick me and everybody who didn't
think I was a first round pick.
And then I think you have to, once you approach the stage, you don't just shake Adam
Silver's hand.
I think you do a stare down a little bit, right?
Like I think you do a little bit of a stare down and then you shake the hand, right?
And then you have to like hold up the hat, you know, to all the fans as they cheer.
I think you've got to really soak it in if you're in the stands like that.
Absolutely.
You didn't get that whole day being with the other guys on the bus, doing the photo shoot,
the red carpet.
So you make that your moment.
You start with your slowest walk you have.
However slow you can walk, walk slower.
I want the team that's on the clock to already their buzzers done before I even have my hat.
This is about me at this moment.
I want a logjam of draft picks at the end of the steps because I took so long.
So I really think you have to maximize that.
I don't know if I do that.
In the NFL, you see guys like pick up the commissioner.
Yeah, that's a lot.
That's too much.
But I'm certainly making the most of that walk.
I'm doing it too.
And, you know, I probably walk by the tables of a few draft picks.
Maybe I grabbed their glass of wine or water.
You know, I'll take a little sip sort of like, yeah, how does it feel to know
that you haven't been picked?
But here I am.
You know what I mean?
If somebody's got like a biscuit or something, I'll probably grab the biscuit, take a bite out of it,
put it back on the plate, you know.
You know what I mean?
walking by someone that was invited and been your picked before them yeah big bite their food
pat their family on the back like oh excuse me excuse me 100% there are some sad ones one that comes
to mind scotty hobson who played at tennessee i mean i don't usually have sympathy for tennessee
vals but he's from kentucky uh hopkinsville my area of the state he went to the draft thinking
he would get drafted and he ended up listening in his car in the parking lot of the
arena to the radio broadcast to where he didn't hear his name at all.
So it's fun of it is to laugh at some of these.
There are some crushing stories where a guy like him making the trip and then he listens
to pick 60 while sitting in the car in the parking lot and it's not him.
That would be so uncomfortable.
Yeah, it would be, man.
And it's hard, man, because especially if you're looking at guys getting drafted and you're
like, you know what, I'm better than him.
And I think that has to be part of the Bronny conversation.
is we know there are players that were better than Bronte.
There are dozens of players better than Brony,
but obviously your connections,
affiliations, that can matter.
I just think people miss how many great players don't get a chance.
You know, they just don't get a shot to play in the NBA.
Incredible, incredible players.
Obviously, Reed and Rob Dillingham,
Rob's coming to my play.
He's coming to Minnesota.
And if I could give Rob any advice, Drew,
my first advice would be
whatever coat you have
you know what I mean if he's got a winter coat
leave it where you have
you got to buy a Minnesota winter coat
like people come here and they got these coats from
Arkansas and Florida and East Coast
none of those coats work
here right like a Chicago coat
won't even work here once it gets coat
you have to go to an actual
Minnesota store
to get our coats because those are the only ones that are really protected.
So I hope he's getting good advice on how to dress out here because, you know,
once it gets cold, and I think he's from what?
Is he from North Carolina, right?
North Carolina.
Yeah, leave that Charlotte coat.
Leave it in North Carolina.
It's just not going to protect you from the elements at all.
So that would be my first advice, Drew, to him, is get your cold weather gear,
here. It's almost like,
you know what I mean, I won't get a
barbecue sauce from some place
in Florida or North Carolina that somebody like shipped
in, like there's some store in Minnesota
and they got some North Carolina barbecue sauce.
I'll go to North Carolina and get it.
You know what I mean? Like I'm going to wait until I get
there and get the stuff there
rather than trying to order it in
or bring one from where I'm from.
Absolutely. Rob's going to get that full
Minnesota experience. It's going to be new to him.
Luckily, he has the money to
buy several of your local coaches.
there.
My coat store.
Since you're in it,
what's the excitement for Rob?
Because he around Kentucky,
I think,
is an all-time fan favorite
with how exciting as he is.
Are Timberwolves fans aware
of what's coming to their organization?
Oh, people are excited.
And you know what people are really talking about?
Is the personality matchup
with Rob and Anthony Edwards.
I mean, they're going to be like a walking comedy show.
Like, someone should already make the show
between those two guys, right?
But I think, you know,
the way that people see,
Rob is you go, okay, what didn't you have when you lost to Dallas in the Western
Commerce Finals?
You didn't have that offensive spark.
You needed someone else who could get a bucket.
And here's my thing about Rob.
You know, Rob is kind of polarizing in terms of, you know, the highs and lows of his game.
At the end of the day, that is a legit natural score, right?
Like that is a dude who could score 20 in his sleep.
So I think if you're the Timberwells, he's perfect for I think what he can be.
next to Anthony Edwards.
Like, it won't shock me if he's a starter
midway through the season.
I mean, Mike Connolly's there,
a point guard veteran,
but I just think Rob brings the dynamic
that could turn them from a contender
to a team that is now in the finals, right?
Because I think he's just going to come in
and in the NBA,
and I saw some of the comments where he said,
I mean, he kind of suggested that, like,
I don't want to say he thought he was held back by Cal,
but like he made a time like, you know,
the NBA is going to allow me to kind of be my
self, you know, and I think that's true.
I think Rob and the NBA, man, I think he's just going to be even better than what he was last year.
Yeah, no, we all believe that Rob thinks he was held back a little bit.
I do love, I mean, I'd prefer that he starts and is a 10-time All-Star,
but I love him coming off the bench in that second quarter when, you know,
Anthony Edwards was getting a breather because unfortunately we saw him off the bench here,
but it made for such a fun flurry of points in games where he'd come in.
and he did it against Kansas right away.
I had like 12 points coming right off the bench.
He's a type of guy.
He steps in, you blink, and he's got 15 points in your team's right back in there.
Or he stretched the lead out.
I just think they're going to love him there if he's in that six-man role.
Or even better, maybe he's starting him and Anthony Edwards are just taking turns,
taking guys off the dribble.
I think that's the dream, right?
I mean, like to me, he starts coming off the bench,
and I think he gives them something they didn't have.
You know, again, against Dallas, you look at that series,
and it's like you needed that spark off the bench.
You needed somebody.
And the one thing about Rob is, and I thought this about Rob in high school,
you could have told Rob in high school, hey Rob,
you're about to go play Steph Curry on Sunday in prime time.
Are you good with that?
He would have said yes.
Like the dude doesn't have like this manufactured confidence about this game.
Like he legitimately is fearless and knows that he can score with anybody.
And I think that to me is what people are really going to appreciate in Minnesota, man,
because you give them another score,
young guy to pair with Anthony Edwards,
I think he's going to learn so much.
I think they can become a really,
really strong young duo, man.
And it's going to be fun to watch, right?
Like you said, Rob is going to be a fan favorite
with his personality,
but then when you see him play,
I think everybody here is really going to embrace it.
And for Kentucky's purposes,
I mean, Carl's a favorite here too,
and we kind of, a lot of us don't have a specific NBA team,
but we keep up with these guys on the pros.
And I think Minnesota added a lot of Kentucky
fans about putting Rob and Carl on the same team.
I think you'll see a lot more blue in those stands coming up following those guys.
Yeah, that's good for him too, man.
I think sometimes what happens to these young guys is they get to a team and they don't
have anyone within the team that they can kind of turn to.
And I think for him to have Anthony Edwards is going to teach him a lot about, you know,
kind of being that young's score, that natural score.
How do you kind of know when to shift gears and play with balance and pace?
And I think having cap there is just going to be.
right away you get to go to Katz Mansion.
He's got out here, man.
He's got, you know, full basketball court, everything you would want.
So it's cool to come into a place where I think he will really, really be embraced, really, really beloved.
And I think people will wrap their arms around it because, you know, this is a Minnesota team that feels like they're a piece away from being in the finals.
You know, and having a chance to face the Celtics.
And I think there are a lot of people here who are like, Rob is the perfect guy to add to a team.
that needed someone like him last year.
That and you mentioned his confidence to your thing.
You said about telling Rob he's playing Steph Curry in prime time on ABC.
I think Rob would say, no, you tell Steph Curry he's playing Rob Dillingham tonight.
I mean, that's the kind of attitude that guy has.
Yes, yes.
And again, that's a bad thing, I think, Drew, if you're faking it.
You know what I mean?
Like, if you're faking that, then people can see through that.
and I think you get exposed a little bit.
Rob isn't doing that.
This is just legitimately who and what he is.
And I think that to me is why it's so authentic.
Like that dude is going to get it to games.
He's going to do what he does.
And the beautiful thing is being with the team that is a legit championship contender,
no one's going to ask him to be anything else.
Like the ask will be, get out there, get buckets.
And there aren't many people in America who I think,
think are as good as Rob at doing just that.
I think we've got to take a break now.
Yeah, it's good another break in.
Let's get a break in.
