Now here's Matt Jones.
Some heart sitting in for Matt Jones with Drew and Ryan in Lexington.
Wait, what is, what's so funny?
Nothing.
Oh, no.
You know, we're just three guys talking during the break, you know.
nothing really to be concerned about.
What about guy number four?
I can't be enough fun?
Well, we had a pre-party for Justin Timberlake.
He was in town last night at Rupp Arena,
and KS. Barr had a pre-party.
He didn't come by.
We were just telling Shannon's just some of the things
that happened here before.
It was fun.
Nothing crazy.
Just a little giggle.
Yeah.
No margarita funnels?
No margarita funnels.
No nudity.
Just a lot of people excited to go see Justin down the street.
I did get a text message from Yoga Girl and said,
don't even think about trying that.
The funnel.
Oh.
The Justin Timberlake concert.
We know you did think about it.
Of course I did.
I thought you meant yoga.
That too.
Speaking of Justin's, Justin Edwards had a big night,
huh?
Playing for Philly in the Summer League,
14 points, three boards and assist.
Drew, he went five for seven,
hit all three of his threes.
He kind of needed a bounce back performance.
Two-part question for Drew.
We surprised that he went undrafted
and how important are the next couple of weeks for him?
I will say, even though I did not think he should go pro,
I thought someone would take him.
So I was pretty shocked that he went undrafted.
Even the morning of round two, because this year was on the next day,
they reset their mock drafts after a round.
A lot of them had him as the first pick in the second round,
the morning of the second round,
and he still went undrafted.
I'm the former president of the Justin Edwards fan club,
Harry Lexington.
And it really hurt me to watch his day.
I didn't watch it all, but to see his debut the other night where 20 people got in the game
and 19 of them scored and he went O for Everything as a starter.
It made me wonder if he's going to even get a sniff at the NBA.
But then last night had a huge bounce back.
At one point he had 12 points and he was three for three from three point land early in the game.
It kind of felt like when he went off against Alabama.
So luckily he put that bad debut aside and had a good night last night to reset in Philadelphia.
Also last night, Trey Mitchell finally debuted.
He was supposed to play against Justin Edwards the night before, but set out.
He debuted and got his first bucket.
So we're starting to get into the Wildcats in the summer league right now.
I'm glad Justin had a good second chance at it.
I think Trey's ceiling is limited, but Justin, obviously, his is much different.
Why do you think, in the end, why do you think he went undrafted?
He's not ready.
I mean, anyone that watched him here thought that, but the culture of going pro and having
Rich Paul talk about you to all the agents.
I just thought someone would take the chance for his long-term potential.
I know part of it's on him.
He had plenty of opportunities.
I mean, I think most Kentucky fans says he has too many opportunities in reading Rob on the bench.
But I still feel bad for what that guy's got to go through mentally because this time
last year, we interviewed him in his first interview on campus, and we were asking him
about being the number one projected pick, those expectations, the pressure.
I mean, he was at the top in the mock drafts.
only a year ago than to go completely undrafted.
It felt terrible for him.
But like said, he's playing for Philadelphia where he grew up.
I'm glad he had, he said 14 points last night.
I think he plays again tonight.
So we'll see what he can do from there.
And Friday, we have Rob Dillingham plays against Antonio Reeves in the first of a game of a doubleheader.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Reed Shepard debuts for Houston.
So a little more, we got the Olympic team to watch, but we also have the former cats trying to make it in the league this summer.
It's good because I don't get our Braves on TV here in Atlanta.
Major League Baseball is the hardest thing to find.
I know there's like a season package,
but if I just want to watch a game,
I don't even know if it's not on like prom-time ESPN,
I think they hide it.
How do you know, is it blackout games or how do you not get it?
No, their ballet sports is in a fight with Comcast,
so they're not carried on Comcasts in Atlanta.
You can't get them.
I got a, I got a box I want to send you.
Just as a thank you for guest hosting all these weeks on KSR,
I got this little box that will get you anything you want.
Okay, send it.
It sounds very legal.
Shannon sounds all on the upper.
It is.
It is legal.
Tom, you're employed by one of the networks that probably don't like that box.
So it gives you all the free sports packaging.
Oh, it does?
Oh, we didn't say free, did we?
I didn't say free.
I said it gives you lots of sports packaging.
Is it like Roku or something like that?
Oh, it puts Roku to shame.
Like, it laughs at Roku.
Hold my beer, Roku.
There are so many things that are out there that I am blissfully unaware of it.
I don't know.
For better or for worse.
But I'll get into that in a little bit.
Josh Allen changed his name.
Yeah.
Going by Joshua Hines Allen.
So I was thinking about this.
He's got, I loved him at Kentucky.
And he had led the second in the league in Sacks last year with the,
Jaguars, 17 and a half. But I was just talking about him. I won't get in all the details,
but I gave a little presentation a bunch of football coaches a couple weeks ago. Assistant coaches,
a couple Kentucky guys were there. It was great. And I was telling a Josh Allen story.
And I had to stop and think as his name came out of my mouth. I was like, no, no, I'm not
talking about the Buffalo quarterback. I'm talking about the edge rusher from Kentucky now with the
Jaguars. So who else is out there whose name is so closely related to another name,
you have to, like, shift a little bit or it's beneficial to shift? You know when Michael B. Jordan
started acting, he was in the Sopranos in 1999 as a kid. He went as Michael Jordan.
Yeah. And the first couple of years as an actor, he was Michael Jordan. And then somebody came to
him and was like, hey, listen, dude, you're really talented actor. Who,
knows. You may end up in Black Panther or Creed or whatever. Let's differentiate a little bit. And
he changed it to Michael B. Jordan. I thought that was a wise choice. And I think it fits for Josh.
Like, it's great. He's, you know, his mom is Kim Hines Allen. His uncle is Gregory Hines.
And his sister, Maisha Hines Allen, plays for the Mystics. So Ryan, it just made a lot of sense to add the
hinds to the last name
and put it on the back of the jersey. Yeah, and nothing else
distinguishes him from Josh Allen
the quarterback, yeah, because you know
like you just said that example you gave.
You mentioned the name Josh Allen. Most people's
focus goes into the quarterback,
not the guy that we know here from Kentucky.
So, you know, Matt Jones
has had to deal with that his whole life. There's a Matt
Jones played for Duke, Matt Jones, played
for August, Matt Jones everywhere, you know.
One of our bosses here at Iheart, his name's Michael Jordan.
That's true. Yeah, we have a boss named Michael
Jordan here. Some of the overall NFL
reaction was kind of like he surrendered his name to the other Josh Allen.
But there is, he said that connection.
He has two sisters that play basketball.
Both are Heinz-Hifin Allen.
His uncles were Heinz.
Like, it makes sense that he would do this.
I almost wonder why he hadn't had it all along.
But I like that he's made that family connection.
And just as Kentucky fans, it's amazing that kid that barely weighed 200 pounds as a two-star
that showed up on this campus is an NFL defensive star, whatever his last name is right
now. That's just a guy that's an all-time favorite around here in Kentucky.
He's so easy to root for. He's such a nice guy. And I think because, I don't know,
not to say that if you're a five-star when you show up, you can't also be humble, but because
he accomplished what he did in college and made these leaps, I think he has a little different
foundation in terms of how he looks at the game and his opportunities and his family and
all of that stuff. And once again, not to say that you can't be those things.
as a five star who was always destined for stardom.
But think about the difference between what Joshua Hines Island has done in his career
versus where Justin Edwards is right now in his career.
I mean, totally opposite ends of the spectrum.
And I know it's really early for Justin Edwards.
He's just starting his pro career, but given what the expectations were from a very young age.
And I would imagine that would be really hard to grapple with mentally
if you're on the Justin Edwards side of things.
And we saw that, I think, this past year when there were a couple times,
looked like he was in tears on the bench because he's obviously working his butt off.
He knows he's a good player, and it just wasn't happening at times.
I think that's why a lot of, like Drew said, fans around here were endearing to him
because of maybe the mental toll that was taking on him,
not succeeding the way he thought he was going to and being a top pick.
It just didn't happen for most of the year.
Thankfully, he had that one good Alabama game.
Oh, that was amazing game.
He was awesome.
You see what.
We could have maybe have seen the whole season.
Yeah, he mentioned some mental struggles,
and I don't remember the opponent,
but I remember a game where he took a three in the corner
and it hit the side of the backboard and just looking at him,
I thought this kid might walk out of this arena and never come back.
He looked that broken in that moment,
and then he, of course, had some bounce back games like Alabama and things after that.
But it's just got to be weighing on him, the expectations that,
and part of that's just the rankings, you know, people setting him up for that.
But to be where he was before his year started and to go undrafted,
it's hard to watch.
but we're still rooting for him.
We've got more La Famillion News coming up,
but I want to jump to the phone lines real quick.
Can we do that, Shannon?
Yeah, let's go.
Let's get Crease up with us.
Go ahead, Chris.
Hey, guys, I just got a quick question.
Tom, maybe you know this with your SEC work,
but for the conference tournament next year in Nashville with the added teams,
do they plan on adding just a few playing games to the opening day
and splitting it up like morning evening session
or do you know the format how that's going to work yet?
That's a great question, Chris.
I don't have that answer, but we'll find it shortly.
I know they made a drastic change to the baseball tournament
and that they're going single elimination all the way through.
So the baseball tournament was a little bit different
in that not everybody qualified.
Now, all 16 teams are going to be there.
It has been 12, and they're going single elimination all the way through.
I would think that in basketball, once again, we can look it up,
but all you have to do is add a game to that first night and then funnel everything else to that to that second day right you just right drew you just add add one game that first day seems like the easy solution i'm not an expert on the matter but that that that math maths to me yeah we're going to math that uh crease thanks for the call um i'm not a fan at all of of conferences especially in basketball that don't invite everybody to their postseason tournament the ivy league is a little bit different because that's brand
new, so they have a little four-team tournament. They never had a tournament until like a few years
ago. But in my mind, what makes college basketball special is everybody has a chance to win
the national championship. Everybody plays if done right. Once again, this is, in my mind,
the way it should work. Everybody should qualify for the conference tournament. Everybody should
have a chance to win their conference tournament. Therefore, that automatic birth should get any of those
teams into the NCAA tournament, and then you don't have to worry about all this stupid expansion
talk than everybody. We know it's not equal, but everybody has that same opportunity. Shannon,
who's next? Doug.
Hey, Doug, what's up? Hey, guys, how we doing? Sensation.
Hey, I called into the pre-show a couple weeks ago. I'm out here in Spokane and Gonzaga country,
and I've already got my tickets for the game in December. I heard you guys talk yesterday about
whether or not you were going to drive to Seattle. And I'm starting to
campaign to bring you guys to Seattle.
It's one part of the country we've never done a trip to, so it makes sense.
Exactly.
I'm about five hours from there on a drive, and we're going to drive over and drive across
the Snow Mountain Pass in December.
And if you guys are there, we want to come look you up if we can.
Doug, that's a fantastic idea.
I love to get you involved in this because he would be involved.
I've been to Spokane.
I've been to Spokane.
I was beautiful.
Not.
So, Ryan, would you be down with making the drive to Spokane at 35 hours?
You've had some legendary moments in Iowa.
Yeah, oh, yeah.
Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, South Dakota, Southern Montana, crossover, Idaho before you get into Washington.
We've never done Montana.
We've done Idaho, and a lot of those he named.
I don't think KSR has touched Montana.
But, you know, if you drive.
As soon as you cross from Idaho.
Idaho to Washington, that's Spokane.
That's where I'm at.
And then you go another five hours to get to where the game is.
So we've done Seattle, though.
Yeah.
Me, Matt and Ryan have already done Seattle.
If we drive to this game, we're going through Dallas and Phoenix and that way.
Vermont.
We are definitely touching Vermont on the way to Seattle.
I'm looking at it now.
It's 2,065 miles from Louisville.
But that's the Google way.
You got to do the Matt Jones way.
It's like running from a crocodile.
A lot more zigzagging.
I've been there.
I guarantee you, if you guys make that trip, he will take you through Moscow.
But still, you'd go through Moscow.
I think you've got to do it.
I really do.
We're kind of tentatively scheduled for Austin for football first trip to Texas just a couple
weeks before.
Does that change your opinion?
If we were to do that, we can't do both.
That's just not possible.
So, I mean, Austin, UK versus Texas.
I think we're leaning that way.
It's a little bit closer,
even though we will still go through Moscow to get to Texas.
Yeah, you still.
I think that's where we end up.
Tukum-Terry to get there.
There's no question about it.
Yeah, I think either one of them would work.
I think Austin would be a little bit more fun.
If you've already been to Seattle, especially.
We flew to Seattle.
We were there for a day just aboard an Alaskan cruise.
Do you remember that, Ryan?
I love that.
We were only there for about three hours.
Yep.
So we've seen enough.
We've seen Seattle.
We saw the tie.
They got space needle.
They got fish.
They threw fish at each other at the market.
They caught it.
It was cool.
I think we should do Austin.
All right.
I'm going to take you through a road trip that my golf clubs went on.
Speaking of road trips, when we return, it's, I know it's scintillating radio and podcast material.
But we've got a song that goes with it, and Shannon's ready for that.
That's when we're returning in Kentucky sports radio.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing

because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth,
or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Life throws hurdles big and small.
The question is, how do you conquer them?
On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and
and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges
that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going.
From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't
feel like you don't feel on.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ledecki.
The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their.
face light up and smile. That means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more
gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning.
It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeartRadio
app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of
IHart Women's Sports.
I know you guys can't hear it on the podcast, but we got a song playing.
Keep it going, Shannon.
First line is what I need.
Any second now, I promise.
This is the trip my golf clubs went on from Tucson to Tukum Carey and beyond on my trip back from Pebble Beach.
I didn't want to take him with me, so I shipped him.
I came home.
I got in a car.
I drove to the Ozarks.
I had almost a week's family vacation.
in the Ozarks, I drove back. My golf clubs still weren't home. Now, to be fair, I picked the
slowest option. Like, I didn't need them anytime soon. Saved a couple bucks. Here's where they
went from Pebble Beach, California, Watsonville, California, Tracy, California, Kingman, Arizona,
Tukham Cary, New Mexico, Moralton, Arkansas, Forest Park, Georgia, Ellenwood, Georgia, Kenesaw, Georgia,
and then finally, my house yesterday afternoon in Atlanta.
It was amazing that you can track these things all the way across the country.
And there is a song by Little Feet talking about being a trucker,
a long-haul trucker going from Tucson to Tuchamp Carey.
Honestly, I'm not sure I'd heard of Tuchamp Carey before I saw it on that,
on that itinerary that my golf clubs took.
But they came back mostly in one piece.
So that's good news.
Drew, what are the odds?
What are the odds that my golf clubs would go on such a wild journey?
The odds are pretty long, and if you like looking at odds, you should look at odds on Draft King's Sportsbook, Tom.
The summer sports season rolls on with Wimbledon.
The Isco Championship is here in Kentucky this week.
Do you know we got PGA in Kentucky, Tom?
That's going on.
Yeah, I thought it was a barbersaw, but they changed the name.
They changed.
The Isco came through with more sponsorship.
We also got Major League Baseball, and it's super easy to get started if you want to bet on all the action.
Go to Draft King Sportsbook app.

Drew, what are the odds?
If I would have told you, I don't know, five years ago,
three years ago, one week ago, that a canter would ever for a Kentucky basketball uniform.
I wouldn't even know how that would be possible, Tom.
But as of a few hours ago, it is true.
We have a canter on La Familia, our TBT team full of all the alums, but it is not Ennis.
It is Karim, if I'm pronouncing that right, his younger brother who played at Green Bay,
which Doug Gottlieb is about to turn around.
I believe he also did a lap around Xavier.
He played there in 2018, been overseas the rest of the way.
But, yeah, we're going to have a young Ennis, a younger brother of Ennis joining the rest of our former cats that was announced this morning.
We'll be playing in that game coming up on July 19th and hopefully more games after that.
How you feel about that, Ryan?
Do you even know Ennis had a younger brother?
I didn't know that.
So Ennis never got to suit up and play for the cats.
Little brother is going to carry the torch and play for him, play for La Familia.
I like to think Innes just doesn't want to play for Kentucky.
He's like, you know, I made it this long.
I love Kentucky, but I'll let my younger brother play.
He did say, Ennis was going to try to be there.
So we might get a second.
Did you got a scouting report on Little Brother?
What's his game like?
Yeah, well, according to Kentucky SportsRadio.com,
where everyone should get all of their scouting report needs,
he's 29 years old.
He is a 6'10 power forward.
Oh, my.
Average 11 points and five rebounds when he was at Xavier,
shooting 55% from the field.
As I said, he's been bouncing around overseas ever since.
He's still playing.
So, you know, he got fresh legs.
He'll be ready to go.
But he's the only non-Kentucky player on the team.
So big addition.
That looks like a really fun roster, by the way.
Hey, thanks to when Stevens hits me up on Twitter reminding me that former Kentucky golfer, John Holmes, long hitter, goes by J.B.
Yeah, that was probably a smart move on his part when he was starting to make a splash on the PGA tour to
change his name from John Holmes to J.B. Holmes, one of our favorites from Taylor County.
That's one that I think was very important. I'm sure he did that right away. We also have the
Jason Williams's Williams' Williams' Williams's of the NBA. Jason went to Jay when the other
Jason Williams was in a little bit of trouble. A lot of bit of trouble. Yeah. I mean,
sometimes, like you don't have to be a famous athlete or actor to adjust your name. You know,
But you're John Holmes, it's okay to go by J.B. or J.T. or J.C. or whatever, even if you're, you know, a truck driver going through Tukum carry. Like, it's fine. It's fine. Like, you don't, I don't think you have to do that. Squeeze in one more caller. Do we have time for that, Shannon, before we go to our next break? Let's go to Tim.
Hey, Tim.
Hey, guys.
I got three trivia questions.
They all build on each other.
First one is slightly subjective, but I think there's only one answer.
Who was the most renowned men's basketball player in the history of Western Kentucky University?
Are you going to give us all three at the same time, or we're going to go one by one?
No, they build.
They build, so.
I'll go Jim McDaniel.
That would be my choice.
I think I would give you a ding ding, ding.
ding on that one.
Okay.
All right.
The next one, a little more difficult.
Who is the current
viral YouTube
influencer who
once outscored and out-rebounded
Jim McDaniel in a head-to-head
college basketball matchup?
Asked Mario.
He seems to be our social media expert.
I don't know any influencers by name.
That would be that old, yeah.
To have out-rebounded,
Jim McGaill, I don't know. You'll have to give us that one.
Well, his real name is Greg Kenman.
And if you look on YouTube under Hickok 45, he's a gun enthusiast guy,
and he has post every day and all of his videos, YouTube, Instagram,
he's into the millions of views on everything he does.
Okay, we've got to go to break real quick. What's the last one?
last one is what high school did Greg Kinman attend in Kentucky
Greg Kimman played at Austin P if I remember correctly is that right
you are correct you are correct
if you googled that you're even more correct
uh bullet county
he's gone
oh I never know we didn't get the answer
we'll never know I like to think it's correct

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough
because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Life throws hurdles big and small.
The question is, how do you conquer that?
On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them
and the mindset that keeps them going.
From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel
on.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ledecki.
The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile,
that means the world to me.
And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.
At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Like, I can do anything.
I can do anything.
Because resilience isn't just about winning.
It's about showing up, even when it's hard.

Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Tom, Drew, Ryan, and Shannon the dude.
Shannon, what do you got?
Yeah, the segment sponsored by our friends at the Moonshine Trail.
You can check it out. Follow me on Twitter and get their giveaway
that they're doing each week. They're giving away an Amazon gift card. I'll be posting a different
location each week on the moonshine trail. And one person who correctly names the location, we'll get that
Amazon gift card. Go to moonshontrail.com for more information. They've got 10 different locations
along the trail each different and unique in their own way. I can check out the Barrowhouse
Distilling Company, regeneration distilling company, and a whole lot more. Again, that's moonshine trill.com.
Can they give away a car, Drew, I need a car. And I think
talked about this a month ago.
I keep putting this thing off.
I hate shopping for cars.
What is my first step?
Find that carless driver in San Francisco and just haven't come to
Atlanta and driving around?
I know.
What if you just bought one of those carless ubers, a driverless Uber's, and you just rode
shotgun everywhere you went?
That'd be pretty awesome.
I wonder, like our boy Matt, he would struggle with that.
You know, he's got to always tell the driver where to go when he's in the passenger seat.
So he would just be talking to thin air there.
But your predicament of buying a car, as we've said on past shows, it can be a grind.
I understand the stresses there.
I'm a big indecisive guy.
So regardless of what I buy, before I even turn off that lot, I will have second guesses, regretting what I've done.
Do you at least know what you're looking for?
Have you narrowed it down that far?
Yeah, I've narrowed it down to a segment.
But so what you're saying is that your indecision, it doesn't matter how much you're spending.
It could be a sandwich at a deli and you're like, oh, man, I really should have gotten the other deli?
Or is it because it's such a major purchase and only make one every, I don't know.
For me, I buy a new car.
I put as many miles on it as I can until I think I need to get rid of it.
And then I replace it like once every seven years, something like that.
But do you have that same stress of decision making?
no matter how much you're spending.
Oh, yeah.
That's why I'll never get a tattoo
because I will love it when I requested,
but the moment it's on me,
why did I get that?
I can't order a restaurant.
As soon as I tell the server
and they walk away,
I look at the table like,
I don't even want that.
Why did I say that?
I'm very bad with final decisions.
So a car, that's really going to stress me out.
Ron was my realtor.
We looked at probably every house in Lexington
before I would actually commit to buying a house.
But when he found the right one,
he walked in, he looked at Abby.
Buy it.
We can't even say what I said on radio.
But yeah, point being, go in knowing a little bit of what you want so you're not like me and losing your mind and having regrets or second guesses.
What I hate about buying a car is I always, I'm not cheap.
I don't think I'm cheap, but I always want to make sure I'm not being taken advantage of and that I'm getting a good deal.
It doesn't have to be the best deal in the world.
I just need to make sure I'm not overpaying for something.
And so the idea that everything's negotiable when you go buy a car, that adds a whole other level of stress with me.
Like, dude, just tell me what the cost is.
I'll decide whether it's in my price range or not.
And we go from there.
But I got to get a good price in my trade it.
And I got a good price in the car that I'm buying.
Why?
Like, why that added stress?
Ryan, are you a good negotiator when you buy one of the thousands of used cars you get?
Awful, awful.
awful and that's what's crazy about hearing drew tell this story because drew's mom is the person
that like she loves it she thrives on trying to negotiate and get a good deal and we we talked
about this on the show not long ago there's a guy here in town who has a profession where he will
negotiate for you oh haven't heard of that yes like you'll be your negotiated help you buy houses
or cars or whatever you got to pay for him yeah services so then i mean why not take that money
and just negotiate it yourself and put it towards the car Shannon have you ever ever
on any purchase, have you ever walked out as a negotiating?
I'll tell you this. Have you come back?
Well, let me tell you the story. I once sold a car back to the same dealership that sold me
the car five years before that for the same price that I bought it for.
No way. I swear I did. Come on. How do you do that? No, I did because I said, hey, I want to trade
this back in. If you don't want to play ball, I'm done. I walk towards the front door.
Right as my hand hit the door, I hear a voice from the back. Hey, wait a minute. Wait a minute.
wait, wait, wait, we may be able to work something out.
I walk back. He gave me the same deal for the car that I bought it for.
So basically, I just drove the car around for free, minus, you know, oil change and gas expense
for five years.
You should be the negotiator.
Hold on. Had you already agreed on the sale price of the replacement car?
Yeah, yeah.
You got into trading?
Yeah, so I was wanting to upgrade to a Jeep.
I'm a Jeep guy.
I was driving, I think at the time it was, I think it was a, I think it was a,
Malibu I was driving around and I trade this Malibu back in for the same price.
So you had already picked out the Jeep.
You agreed I'm going to pay X for it.
Yep.
But I have a trade in and I need to get X for my trade in.
Bingo.
And they hemmed and hauled and you said, fine.
Yep.
Yep.
Well, there is a place, Tom, you should shop when you're in Kentucky.
It's called Don Franklin.
And Don Franklin, we've done shows there for years.
We've hit every Don Franklin.
There's like a million of them in Kentucky.
That's who you need to go see for your next car.
They sponsor my last name.
I'm saying my name.
I just, we love Don Franklin so much and I'll do anything for money.
My name's Drew Anderson.
If I go on the air next year, it's Don Hart, then we got something going.
Yeah.
I think that I would, listen, if I knew that I was going someplace trusted,
I would get on a plane and fly somewhere to buy a car.
I absolutely would.
Like take all the stress out of it.
I don't know how that would work with my trade-in, but I would 100% do that.
Why don't you do it?
Fly up here, have lunch at KS.
bar do the show with us here at case bar then we'll take you to a couple don franklin's and they can
work out a deal for you then we can see we can see mat play golf and shoot a 76 maybe go out in the golf
course a little bit you know he he is really good he's all you know he's a lot better than i am
but you know when it gets in the sniffing range of the hole on the green you know there's been
known to maybe pick it up a time or two if you're going to pick it up you got to count that as a
stroke too you can't just pick it up and say that's not even a stroke which i feel like
that's probably does well the problem is you're not even
the green with him when he picks it up. You're still in the
fairway playing with everyone else in the group and he
is driven to the green and finished
while everyone else is back playing by the
rules of golf. One of those, okay. What, he's
impatient? I cannot be in case.
I know it's not called the barb of salt.
Remind me what it's called. Isko.
Isko, new sponsor. They kept it alive.
Isn't it a tradition that
it just pours down rain like
Friday of that tournament? What's the
forecast? Please tell him we've got to go. Actually, Tom,
I was up before this show, writing my
preview of the Isco. I'm so afraid to even say this out loud, Ryan, because it's going to be
on me. I'm just not going to say anything, Tom, but let's just say the forecast was part of what I'm
writing, and it's a little more positive than in the past. Who is the best golfer? Who should we
keep our eyes on that's going to be playing in that this weekend with the Scottish going on at the
same time? Yeah, so most people know the PGA is coming, but you're not going to have your Scotty's
and your Zanders. It's up against the Scottish Open.
But we have several PGA golfers, some from Kentucky.
Our boy Josh Teeter is in it.
He played last week in the John Deere.
He will have the biggest crowd by far being an Lexington guy.
There's three former UK players.
Some PGA names people might recognize Joel Damon from the full swing.
If anyone watches that, he and his caddy Gino are in town.
Snediger has won several times.
Troy Merritt is a past winner here at the Barbasol.
So there's a lot of names you'll know.
It's just not the big, big names.
And Scotty Shephyler, I don't think you'll ever see him in Kentucky again.
So scratch that off.
But still a big event that we're excited to host in Kentucky.
And as you said, Mother Nature has been so cruel to them.
We deserve a good weekend.
Yeah, absolutely.
That's at King Trace, right?
It is.
I've been every year, and I feel like most years we're just sitting under a tent,
hoping the rain will stop.
That one year, the first year, the storm.
that went through just like we're taking these sponsor tents and just wrapping them up like a pretzel.
We've had lots of delays.
The winter one year had to play 30-something holes.
It's just the weather hasn't been good, but knocking on everything, we're looking decent right now heading into this weekend and hoping for the best.
Is there a pro-am?
Are you playing in the...
There is a pro-am.
I'm not invited to participate.
I guess I'm not am enough or pro-enough.
But yeah, they have pro-em.
They do all the things big events do.
That's why it's a big deal for Kentucky.
The contract ended with Barbissau.
It kind of open the air if it'd keep moving forward.
But Isco is a Kentucky company that stepped in,
and I believe three more years at least going forward.
That's really cool.
That's good.
By the way, did you guys hear about the baseball cards that were stolen in Dallas?
It includes 1952 Mickey Mantle card.
A man, actually four men accused of stealing $2 million worth of rare baseball cards
in inventory from a show in Texas on.
Sunday. It was like a coordinated effort. It was like Oceans 11. The one distract the victim. The other one
snuck in, took a briefcase full of cards and left before anybody realized what happened. It took
170 cards. And the briefcase they took had some of the most valuable cards on the market.
There's there's footage of this on Twitter. Distract and then swipe. There were six,
1952 tops Mickey Mantle cards and two
1948 Leaf Jackie Roberts and rookie cards
according to the report. The most valuable
Mickey Mantle card was selling for
$175,000.
Man. You know, a lot of people
may not realize that baseball cards are big again.
Are they? Okay. I was going to ask this question
because as I was moving last week,
I had boxes and boxes of complete sets
of baseball cards.
And I'm just putting them in the attic going, are these even worth anything?
Why am I holding?
I almost threw them away.
You're telling me that, I mean, obviously the Mickey Mantles and the Jackie Robinson cards are going to be expensive.
But the random cards you're telling me, like, I could actually get money off of those?
Baseball cards are big again.
There are baseball card shops popping up all over the place.
I went through this with Covalu.
You got to have the right cards.
We unfortunately grew up when they were printing several of all of them.
So some of the ones I thought are going to be worth a ton.
I looked it up and they're like $6.
So Ron's right.
I mean, the good wins are for crazy amounts of money,
but a lot of the ones you think are good,
there's just so many of them that you're not going to capitalize.
But that's a 600% return.
If you bought the pack for a buck and there's a $6 card in there,
that's a pretty good return of the investment.
It's not $175,000.
But Shannon, if you've got like, I don't know,
packs and packs and packs and you've got $10, $6 cards in there.
Yeah, it might buy me a couple of tacos.
throw it away.
Exactly.
Yeah, I'll hang on to him.
Maybe, you know.
Other news today,
Quay Leonard is out for Team USA in the Olympics.
They're saying that Derek White could replace him.
Kauai's been around and he's been practicing with them,
but decided that his knee was barking a little too much.
His left knee cost him the last week or so of the last eight games of the regular season
and barely played in the Clippers' playoff series against the Mavericks.
if at all.
Will that team Drew miss
Kawhi Leonard?
Yeah, they'll miss him.
I actually watched the media day
for these guys and they were talking about him
stepping up as a leader and he's talking about all the things
he's going to do to help carry the team.
So big turn of events in 24 hours having that
conversation. Now he's not a participant.
I will say if they add Cooper
Flag, I'm moving to Canada and cheering for them.
They're going to have to replace him.
Derek White, any of them, but not
Cooper Flag for my Kauai stand-in.
Durant's Kevin Durant hadn't been playing because of a cap injury but they say he could be returned next week.
Go ahead, Ryan.
You know, they would miss a healthy Kwai Leonard, but an injured Kwai Leonard, yeah, why not put in Derek White out there going to make your team even better if you Kauai can't play much?
They could also add Bronny James.
That'd be a good addition.
Oh, I might like that.
Yeah, I saw the summer league game the other night where he got in like the last two minutes of the game.
Missed a shot.
I think that was about it.
Summed it up.
Yeah.
Sean East, who was a point guy at Missouri, outplayed him that first game.
And the Twitter responses after a couple of Sean East highlights was,
well, Bronte's going to get Sean East cut from the team now because he wouldn't pass it to him.
So, all right, we've got two more big stories to come.
After this break, we'll try to squeeze in any more calls or text.
And we might just have another live read, you know, because we've got to pay our bills.
Kentucky Sports Radio continues right after this.

Tom, sitting in for Matt.
We've got Drew and Ryan and Shannon.
And Shannon, tell us about Shady Race.
Yes, I want to tell you to stop overpaying for sunglasses.
Go to Shady Raise.
They're an independent American-owned company that started right here in Kentucky.
They have premium polarized shades for every activity,
and their shades are backed by the lost and broken protection plan,
which means if you lose or break them,
They'll replace them, no questions asked.
Use the promo code KSR for 50% off two pair or more in store at their flagship location at the summit at Fritz Farm or online at shady rays.com.
I have somebody telling me, Tom, on Twitter, my baseball cards are worth nothing.
They don't know what I have.
They don't know that I have a Honus Wagner card in my attic.
They don't know that.
It's like saying my trade-in is worth nothing.
I went online, by the way.
I found the exact car I want at the Don Franklin Toyota in Corbyn.
There we go.
Oh, that's the one we frequent.
Yeah, we've been, we've done several shows down there.
Okay, maybe I show up and we do a remote.
Let's go.
Let's book a couple of Wednesdays left.
Before we're done.
Did you see that not to get into politics, but Matt always does.
Trump challenged Biden to $1 million golf match.
He said he, I think he said he'd give him 20 strokes.
And he said it would be the most watch golf match ever for sporting event ever.
Would you guys, two part question, would you watch that?
Number one.
And number two, if it weren't golf,
what would you rather watch those two competed?
A rustling?
Number one, when we watch it, when I watch it,
absolutely I would.
Number two, I would like to see them just have a wrestling match.
Put them in a cage.
See what happens.
See who makes it out.
Yeah, I want to see both of them in one of Shannon's outfits.
Yeah.
You can see Trump in that and those.
tights? That'd be great. Would you watch it? No part of me would want to watch those two play
golf or do anything really. I'm going to still a fun tweet. I saw someone I can't remember who
said that they should give each of those guys a Roku remote and the first one to bring up a show
gets to be president. And I think we should do that. I would tune in for that. The first one of
them to Operator Roku and get some form of television on the screen.
I'd rather watch that than golf.
I'm with you.
I would not watch him play golf, but I'm with Shannon.
I would watch them wrestle if they went out there in leotards and were wrestling.
I would watch that.
Somebody would have to come off the top rope.
Like it has to be required.
I read the entire Trump book, so I know enough about his golf game.
He cheats like Matt, doesn't he?
Worse than Matt, actually.
But it's a pretty entertaining book, to be honest.
What do I mean, what does he do on the golf course that's worth than cheating?
An example, he called, he couldn't make it to a club championship one year,
so he called and asked what the current high score was,
and then he turned in a score a couple shots lower than that, having not played.
That's.
Or no, excuse me, he went days after the tournament, already knowing the winning score,
and played his round and then turned in better than the winning score.
That sounds like something Matt Jones would do.
A missing American climber was found mummified on top of a Peru mountain 22 years after the avalanche.
All right.
So they knew these three hikers were lost in this avalanche.
It's been 22 years.
Ryan, if that were you, would you rather just stay uncovered?
I mean, you've been dead for 22 years.
Would it be fair to the family then to expose the body and bring it back?
Do you think if you're such a, such a passionate hiker that you go to Peru to hike their highest peak,
would you rather just stay there for eternity?
I think if you're the hiker, you probably would want to just stay there, yeah,
because that was your dream and, you know, unfortunately that happened.
But if you're that person's mom, I'm sure she wants some closure and would like to have some sort of ceremony and a gravesite.
What are you going to do?
Just throw some more snow on top of it and move on?
You got to move the body.
don't you?
Yeah.
You can't just cover it back.
Yes.
What's,
get some snow on that body.
Let's move on and forget we saw that.
But the elements are what uncovered the body, presumably, right?
Like the wind picked up to a point.
Would you rather just stay in that state?
Or would you rather come home?
I think just leave me there.
I've been fine for 22 years.
Hey.
If you're a hiker, you probably would just say, man, just leave me.
Hey, you died doing what you love and in the location.
Mama, why I have something different to say.
Ryan, what is the one thing I hesitate to ask this question,
that you died doing what you'd love,
you'd rather us just leave you there?
I'd say, I can't say it on radio,
but I would say,
put me in a speedo on the beach in my chair with a drink in my hand,
and I'm a happy camper.
Weekend at Bernice, basically.
That's right.
He carry you around from club to club.
Drew, that question I ask could have been so much more dangerous.
I was expecting it, to be honest.
I gave him a look, like, here we go.
There's a minute left.
You could ruin the whole show with your next comment,
but he was light there.
Brian, you cannot be buried on your mattress.
Okay, that's the final answer.
Thanks for having you today.
Good show, Tommy.
I'm off next week.
You guys are on a remote, I think.
Yeah, that's right.
Whenever you see fit to have me after I buy my new car.
In Corbyn.
In Corbyn.
Yeah, Don Franklin Auto.
All right.
Talk to you all later.
Have a great Wednesday.
See you, buddy.
