Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

All right, welcome back.

where doors are open now for lunch.
Got some people already coming in here for lunch, and we're joined by our guest today.
Tom Leach, the voice of the Kentucky Wildcats, and Tom on the Aviation Glass Tech
It says the most KSR thing ever just happened.
Quote, let's do an ask anything Friday with a 30 second timer for callers.
Great idea, but one problem, the phone lines are down.
I mean, welcome to our show, Tom.
This is kind of how things go.
You told a great story.
Can you tell that story?
The picture that Corey Price posted for folks who can see that day was my senior year playing baseball.
And that was out of a newspaper at a small town.
up in southwest Ohio
because
in 1977
the coach at Franklin
Ohio High School
Doug Long, I believe, was his name
and my coach at Bourbon County
Larry Conrad were
fraternity brothers at Georgetown College.
I had been fraternity brothers at Georgetown College.
So they had an idea to start this series
and it started in 77 with Franklin,
Ohio, coming to Paris
and they played games
against Bourbon County,
and Harrison County, I think.
And then the next year, Bourbon County would go to Franklin and play games over a weekend.
And this went on for probably a couple of decades.
Anyway, the very first year was 77.
Franklin comes to Paris to play games there.
And the way the thing worked to keep the costs down for the schools and be able to do this,
I think the booster clubs fed the players.
but they need to have somebody stay overnight.
They came in and play on Friday, a host family.
There you go.
And so the way it worked is every one of the Bourbon County players
would take one Franklin player home for the night.
Sure.
And then the next year would flip the other way.
So in 1977, luck of the draw,
I got assigned the catcher from Franklin,
who was a year ahead of me, Dave Baker.
That's crazy.
Dave Baker, you had no idea who he was.
He didn't know who you were.
you end up spending the night with him going up there.
And now you guys have been working together down here for 40 years.
And in that 6 o'clock on Saturday morning, my dad woke us up because somebody had driven
through the fence in the front of the farm and the cattle were on the road.
So Dave is out chasing cattle off Russell Cave Road at 6.30 in the morning.
That is too funny.
What a great story.
All right, 859-2802-287.
You want to call and ask Tom a question.
I think our phone lines are up and working now, Shannon.
So who do we have?
Let's go to Sherry.
Sherry.
go ahead sherry
sherry
i just have
i just have one thing to say
about the introduction
for mark pope
nobody ever gives matt jones credit for that
he was on his show that morning
and he said he was going and he
expected big blue nation
to show up
that's all i want to say
thank you sherry appreciate it that was
a special moment you talked about it two of my
favorite moments don't even involve a game
in that rup arena when the
96th bus rolled in the championship.
And then when Mark Pope rolled in on the bus,
I mean, it wasn't even a game.
Those are two of my favorite moments in that arena.
Something else is a side note from 1977,
the aforementioned 1977.
The only time I think there was a longer line outside Rupp Arena.
Was for what?
Elvis Presley tickets.
Oh, my goodness.
And my best friend's aunt wanted 30 tickets,
and there was a limit of 10,
so she paid three of us to camp out.
and the line by the time the tickets went on sale on Sunday around noon,
the line completely, almost completely wrapped around Rupp Arena.
It was down High Street, down what was in Jefferson Street,
Vise Street, back up Broadway, and almost made a complete circle around the block.
And he'd never made the concert, right?
Right, yeah, he passed away before that concert.
Passed right before that concert.
So I made, was there, it was up that Saturday and Sunday for 33 hours without sleep.
My goodness.
And made, I think, $30.
To the young Tom Leach back when he was calling his shot as the future voice of the Wildcats,
I mean, obviously you didn't go straight from high school to calling games.
Did you find yourself calling any obscure sports or having to learn something new just to get something?
A little experience under your belt?
No, it was always high school football and basketball.
I think I've called one baseball game.
And it was an exhibition game in the fall between Kentucky and Louisville that we did.
on the radio just locally.
And then I think I called a volleyball match one time.
Remember Sports Channel?
Oh, yeah.
It was a regional thing.
Yeah.
Kind of like Valley Sports is now for Reds games.
And, you know, I think I called a volleyball match maybe with Debbie Mulligan.
I think it was with Debbie.
Who's now does a lot of stuff for ESPN, CBS.
It's really good.
I think it was with Debbie.
And Kathy DeBore was the coach, Kentucky.
was really good.
And anyway, yeah, that's the only thing I can remember and then some horse racing stuff.
If you weren't doing football or basketball, this was actually a Tyler Thompson question.
You know, Tyler.
Which sport would you think you would be best at or when you could see yourself doing if you
weren't doing the two?
Probably one of two, baseball, just because that was always my best sport and a big baseball fan.
It would just have never had.
it's a much different challenge for a broadcasting standpoint because you've got a lot more time to fill and tell them more stories.
And then the other thing would be to be a race caller and I've never done it.
And the timing never would work out to do it.
But if there was ever like a couple of week-long meets somewhere in the summer, we could do it, I think that would be fun.
Got some callers on the line, Shannon.
Who's next?
Fake Ralph Hacker.
Oh, fake Ralph Hacker.
The best dressed man in radio.
fake ralphaker you're only your hero tom leach hello ryan janin drew and of course the current radio
voice of the wildcats and my successor mr tom leach tom is so good to hear your voice on the radio
here in the summer time what are you doing just hanging out not not doing much of uh anything
taking a little down time so going to uh a couple of baseball games this weekend
sounds like a winner.
You know, these guys give me a hard time all the time.
We're calling into the radio program and referring to you as screaming leech.
Have you ever heard of anything?
And where that comes from, and I should qualify this,
and so you would know where that comes from.
There was a caller who used to be on another radio station on the post game shows,
and he would often refer to you as screaming leech.
Oh, okay.
And so I sort of adopted that, Tom.
But it's a term of endearment.
Well, I appreciate that.
It's always good to hear Ralph's voice.
Tom, you're one of the finest radio play-by-play man in the country.
And I mean that sincerely, and I'm so happy and proud that you were my successor.
There we go.
Thank you very much.
Thank you, Ralph Hacker.
Fake Ralph Hacker.
I'm sorry.
I appreciate you calling in.
I know people have asked you this before, but if you have a big game or a big moment,
Do you write down what you want to make sure you say if it's a game-winning run or play or touchdown?
The only, no, no, it would be it because it's just it would sound like it was written down.
And, you know, you never know how the moment's going to play out.
The only the national championship game in 2012 because those calls live on good or bad.
Oh, yeah.
And I, all day was kind of just, I was thinking, because I thought Kentucky'd probably win, but not assured, but if they win, what might sound good?
I didn't write anything down, but I did, you know, think a little bit about it over the course of the day.
And I never, all throughout the day, never really came up with anything that, you know, I wanted to keep.
And then finally about half time of the game, I was walking back to the seat.
And I thought, well, it would just do like a countdown or something if it, if it works.
if it fits.
And sometimes had it been a last second shot,
maybe it wouldn't have worked.
So that's about the only time I really even thought much about it.
The touchdown Kentucky thing kind of came about organically
because the first two or three games, it wasn't that.
And I think Jim Host had said,
you ought to try to find something that feels comfortable.
It's kind of like a home run call, a touchdown call,
you know, because it doesn't happen that often in the game.
and I think it was the game up at Indiana.
Kentucky won 49 to 7 and Tim through seven touchdown passes.
And I think I must have said it early and because they kept scoring, it got said often
and it just kind of took off from there.
It felt comfortable.
The final four is in the championship standout.
But in Rupp Arena, is their game that got you a little more excited than others?
Any of those stand out?
The first one that just popped into my head was the Tashon game where he hit five threes at
beginning of the North Carolina game, which was in my first year.
I mean, in football, my first year, I had the Alabama rush the field game.
And in basketball, I had that, even though the season didn't turn out great,
I had that game my first year.
So I was very lucky.
You know, that one, that one about what Tashon used to when you called.
Oh, the Anthony Davis Block.
Again, that was a North Carolina play.
When you call, used to call the athletic.
office at UK and they put you on hold you hear the play oh yeah and that tachsham play always played
from the logo and then pause about 1001 000 yes there was also there's one that's a obscure one
that's a memory for me because you know i was doing football and ralph was still doing basketball
and you never know he might have decided to do it 20 more years yeah and uh you know then the
timing would have never worked out for maybe a chance to add this the other sport um
So, it's about December of 99, maybe.
Ralph called one year, it was like December of 98, I think,
and he called the day of the game and had laryngitis and told me to be ready.
And I sat with him and I think it was Sam Bowie, the whole game,
and Ralph got through it.
Yeah.
The next year, it was the Louisville game again.
It was really ironic.
And he called and said, you know, same thing.
And he had laryngitis.
He didn't know if he could go.
And he couldn't that day.
And so I, and that, to the point being that that was the first Kentucky basketball game I ever called.
And I didn't know if there'd ever be a second one.
So that one kind of always was a special memory.
We got, let's get one more caller before we let you go.
Chan, let's squeeze on one more collar.
Who we got?
All right, let's go to Kurt.
Kurt, go ahead.
You're on with Tom Leach.
Hey, yeah, thanks for, thanks for having me on.
I appreciate it.
Just real quickly for Tom.
There are plans for Coach Polk to have his own call-in show like Cal.
used to have.
And if so, do you know when they're going to start those up?
I'll hang up and listen.
Thanks.
I appreciate the call.
Thank you.
We lost a little bit of that.
I think he's talking about the radio Monday night show.
Yeah.
Yeah, I assume it'll be just as it has been, which would mean the first Mark Pope
show would be somewhere in late November.
Yeah.
When we have a couple of weeks where there's football and basketball back to back.
I appreciate you coming and sitting with this.
I can do one more segment if you want.
We got some calls.
people I think I want to talk to you.
I'll do till the bottom of the hour because I want to see what the next song is.
Shannon gets to pick one more song for me.
All right.
We'll be right back.
We'll wrap it up with Tom Leach.
One more segment.

Ryan, Drew, and Shannon, joined by Tom Leach.
Shane is playing all your favorite hits right now.
Yeah, and the other day, you guys, I think I was listening to one day at a point where
years were talking about things that make you feel old or whatever.
And I had that moment because I think Drew said JT was at Rupp Arena.
And I thought, James Taylor's coming to Rupp tonight?
I miss that.
You know, you made me feel old.
It's the original JT.
The other night at the Channel 18 functioned Monday night when you said Connor was 30 years old.
31.
I can't believe that.
Your son is 31 years old.
Holy cow.
All right, we got some people we want to get on for Tom has to leave.
So who we got, Shannon?
It's going to Shaneo.
Shaneo.
Go ahead, Shaneo.
Hey, guys, good morning.
I just wanted to call in and say how thankful I am and how fortunate we are to have Tom Leach is our play-by-play.
What a lifeline he is for me and all.

long john silver yeah i'll i'll do it thanks guys appreciate shane fish and eggs that was sam ball's son
shame yeah right there all right who's next man when shame played let's go to matt
Matt, go ahead, Matt.
Yeah, my question is for Tom.
A while back on your radio show, you said there was a product that syncs your radio to TV with no delays.
Could you tell me what that is, please?
Yeah, and I don't know if it's still out there.
There's two.
One was called SportsSync Radio.
And we tried to work with them on doing like some giveaways or something at one time.
It didn't really take off.
and they were out of stock and for a long time never did get restocked.
So I don't know if they quit making it or not, but it was called SportsSync Radio.
And I know some people have used that successfully, but the amount of the delay is limited.
And so there might be times when it wouldn't long enough.
There was another one our buddy that passed not too long ago, Steve Moody.
Steve used something called Motron Electronics.
And it was a more elaborate system, cost about $100, I think.
But he swore by it.
He said it never failed, but it was a little harder to set up.
The other thing I tell people, if you're trying to sync up the radio call of the TV,
is find a way to get the TV ahead of the radio.
And if you've got like a speaker dock or something and you can listen on the app,
and if you listen on the app, it'll be behind the pictures.
And then all you have to do is pause the TV and sync it up that way.
That's the easiest way to do it.
That's what I do.
You can hear a shot on the radio.
hit the rim and I hit play you know I get the TV synced up that way our Al Robinson
who's a former Kentucky player and come to come to practice every day I think with
Coach Hall and then kept doing it after coach passed and anyway Al will always
tell us to he wants to make sure when the balls tossed up in the air and the
tip happens that I'm the only one talking and that can be perfectly synced up
and occasionally Goose and I'll be talking about something it might be a half second
behind and we get scolded by Al.
Let's get another call, Shannon.
Who we got?
Mark Anthony.
Mark Anthony.
Go ahead.
John with Tom Leach.
A good morning, KSR guys, and Mr. Leach, sir.
It is an honor just to talk to you on telephone.
You, for years, had a radio show from the 9 to 10 hour, and which you gave us hard news
and verified facts, followed by a show, which is foolishness and fact, your option.
Well, all of a sudden, this Matt Jones goober comes in.
and says, Tom, I need you to disrupt your entire life and get up an hour earlier every day
and do the eight to nine to nine to ten.
And I could imagine you said, well, so you're coming in at nine and, oh, hell no, I'm not
coming in.
I'm going to have two other guys coming into it.
But how in a world did he coerce the voice of the Wildcats to disrupt his life and come
in an hour of year?
That's what I've wondered since it started.
It wasn't Matt.
and he appreciate the shows were both been very successful and the radio station wanted to sell another hour
because they could because they could make more money yeah they're going to make money they're going to do it
yes and as much as we like the cats they weren't going to take the 12 o'clock hour from rush limbaugh at that point
so we had to go back and so that's that's how that came about so I understand why they would have wanted to do that
My show and Matt's show started the same day on the one little station in Louisville.
It was the same day.
Yeah.
I didn't realize that.
Yeah.
So, 2011?
2010.
August of 2010.
August of 2010.
Yeah.
You obviously get to travel with the teams everywhere they go.
Aside from the actual sport, you're watching when you get there, do you have one of a favorite
destination maybe in the SEC or, you know, we go to New York a lot?
Might be going to Maui in the future.
Hopefully you got a place that you just enjoy when Kentucky plays there?
The garden is always fun, especially if we are seated court side.
We're usually for that Champions Classic or the CBS Sports Classic,
we're up what they call the hockey press box at the garden.
We're up higher.
But those times when we get courtside at the garden,
because I was a big New York Knicks fan growing up.
So the garden is always fun.
I like going to new places.
We got to go to Pauley Pavilion a few years ago.
I know you guys there for about an hour.
Thanks.
We drove straight there.
But, you know, doing a game at Pauley was cool.
You know, first time to do a game at Kansas was fun.
Yeah, the Dean Dome was fun doing games there because, you know, Kentucky's good,
and usually the games were good.
So, but the garden is the first one that popped to mind from a basketball standpoint from football.
You got all those spots in the SEC.
I think Georgia is my favorite, even though Kentucky had had a whole lot of success there.
And part of that is selfishly as a broadcaster.
And this is going to change.
They're going to move the press box.
But the press box in our broadcast booth is between the two decks.
So it's a flatter angle, more appealing angle.
You're not as far away from the action.
And down between the hedges.
And there's the open end of one end zone where people gather on the bridge there and look in.
And I just think that's kind of a quintessential college football atmosphere.
And so that's probably my favorite spot in football.
You usually have the best seat in the house for basketball.
Like you said, your court side at the garden and all these historic places.
But I was with you in Detroit when you were sitting up in the sky boxes
trying to call the Kentucky-Michigan State game in the Silver Dome.
That was the trial run for the way the Final Four is set up now,
where they put the court out in the middle of the football field,
what would be the football field instead of up against one side,
so they can use all the seats because they can sell all the seats.
And so that was the test run.
and it was Kentucky and Michigan State, and they put the court at mid where they would basically do the coin toss, a 94-foot court at the midfield.
And then they had now, you know, when you go to a final four, there's risers and the floors.
I think that floor was actually was elevated.
It was.
But the seats are elevated and there's risers.
There, it looked like the world's largest wedding reception because they were all just white chairs on the football field.
And so if you were like two rows off the, you know, you were in the third row or something, you couldn't see.
But for us, we were in the football press box.
So Jim Nance and Billy Packer were the only broadcasters at courtside.
So the rest of us were, we were in the football press box.
And it's the only basketball game I've called through binoculars.
You had to use binoculars.
Because either binoculars or the monitor, and I didn't trust the monitor in terms of would it be synced up and would it stay in sync.
So I call the basketball game through the binoculars.
And the best explanation I've always been able to come up with is Shigari Aline and Cliff Hawkins look like the same guy.
7-3 and 6-1.
We got a one more time for one more caller.
Shannon, who we got?
All right, let's go to Tony.
Tony, go ahead, Tony.
Hey, guys, thanks for having me on.
Long time, first time.
Hey, yeah, hey, Tom, my dad taught me years ago.
I'm 65, and so you're my third play-by-play.
caller in Kentucky basketball.
I grew up listening to K. Wood, most of the time on radio.
But then Dad, when they were fortunate to be on TV, he turned a TV volume down and turn
up K Wood.
And that's how I grew up listening to basketball.
And I still do it to this day.
Thank you.
I listen on my phone.
We got to go.
I'm sorry.
We're up against a break.
I'm sorry, man.
Thank you very much for that.
I appreciate it.
Tom, man, thank you for coming in.
This has been a lot of fun.
Yes, it was.
I know.
hear some stories because I know your life gets busy once football starts.
So thanks for coming and spending time with this.
Closing out with a little more Earth, wind and fire.
There you go.
Thank you, Shed.
Tom, please, the voice of the Wildcats.

Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

All right, Ryan.
Appreciate it, Shannon.
The dude, that was fun having Tom Leach in here with us.
We're going to keep him for two segments,
kept him for an hour.
But I feel like it was like with Jerry Tipton.
We could talk for four hours, tell stories.
Didn't even really get into a lot of the things.
I think people want to know about the behind-the-scenes stuff you were talking about.
course. I think he also just like
song request for Shannon. I think he really did.
I was enjoying the music. There's a lot of times
in this job I don't feel worthy, but looking over at Tom
Leach in a headset, and I also have on a headset that
I just feel like I shouldn't be here.
We do want to touch on a couple other things we haven't been able to yet.
The couple of Kentucky guys make their debut in the NBA
tonight. What Rob Dillingham plays against Antonio Reeves, right?
They play against each other. Yeah. And then right after that,
on the same court, Reed Shepard debuts,
against Bronny's Lakers.
Oh, I didn't realize that against the Lakers.
Yeah, if there's ever, you know, Summer League, it goes on a while.
There's been games.
They had the Utah Summer League earlier this week.
But if there's ever a night to tune in, the debut of Reed, Rob, and Reeves, all in a doubleheader.
As you said, Rob Reeves going against each other.
I have been on the Draft Kings app.
I think it's crazy to bet Summer League.
But, I mean, it's not that crazy.
But there's an interest now with these guys.
So I'm putting together a little.
Do you think Rob's going to get 20?
We got prop bets.
I've missed my Reed and Rob prop bets.
We did it all year with the basketball season.
Yeah.
Oh, 20 points in his first game would be a lot.
I'm stretching the odds a little bit.
They have 15 as an option, but I'm believing.
I'm thinking 20.
We're taking 20 for Rob at his first game.
Yes.
Reed is the one that I'm struggling with.
We're doing overs, not unders.
We think Reed's going to score.
We think he's going to dish.
Is he going to be shooting threes, steals?
He could do a little bit of everything.
What kind of performance do we expect from Reed,
I'll put it with Rob's 20.
Knowing him and the type of player he is, I would think he'd be more wanting to kind of just fit in, be a facilitator.
I would probably at all those say he would go over and assist.
I don't even know what the number is, but I think that's what if you're asking me, that's what I would say.
Four or six?
Six assists.
Four or six, six much better odds.
How confident are you?
I'm very confident at four.
Six so-so.
What about you, Shannon?
Yeah, he can get six.
I agree with you.
I think he's just going to try to fit into his first game.
game probably won't shoot the ball a whole lot looking to distribute more I would say I would say
six assists go with that two steals yeah you know all these guys they haven't played against
reed yet they might just be looking at him I'm not paying a little tension here and there
next thing you know Reed's going the other way that's true so what make the final call I'm on rob 20
points are you going assist I'm going over four assists over four assists all right you can find that on
the draft king sports book app the crown is yours you'd promo code Ksr to get that bonus we've
been telling you about I'm excited about those games
though. I am too. I really, Shannon
I talked about it's on the pre-show. I'm not really a guy that's going to
sit and watch Summer League games, but I want to see
these guys, those three guys, and just see
how they perform and how they do. Especially, I mean,
I'm excited for Reeves, also
for New Orleans tonight, but
Rob and Reed are kind of the
future, you know, being lottery picks
for those franchises and, like, the Twitter accounts
for the Rockets and Wolves today are already
hyping it up. Their debuts, it'll be
a good night to watch some basketball.
So Rob and Reeves may be guarding each
other, actually tonight. Could be.
We'll see how it plans out.
There's like eight or, excuse me, 11 total wildcats playing throughout Summer League.
I think Oscars got a game tonight.
Justin Edwards, Trey Mitchell is still out there.
Some other former cats.
Be a busy time now the Vegas Summer League starts.
I do want to mention, too, how Shannon, the dude, even though he had this little bitty blister on his fingers.
Massive blister.
Still throughout the first pitch at the Riverbats game last night.
And didn't throw a strike, but he didn't bounce it.
That's the main thing.
He did not bounce it going in up there.
It looked like a strike to me.
I don't know what you're talking about.
I think maybe I should have used my challenge on that one.
Oh, yeah.
I would have swung at it.
Yeah, exactly.
So that was the main thing I didn't bounce it.
So I'm happy with it.
When are you going to go out there and throw out your first pitch, Ryan?
We did it.
Drew and Matt and I did it at the Legends game maybe five years ago.
Did anybody bounce it out of the three of you?
No, no.
No, we were all three.
We weren't necessarily strikes, but we didn't bounce it.
You threw from the rubber?
60 feet? Well, we couldn't. We threw it the same. Yeah, yeah. One was, how did we do? We weren't all three on the bag because we threw it the same time. No, we were on each side and I was in the middle. Okay. Yeah. There you go. Shannon's last night with that blister. It kind of reminded me of the, was it ALCS, the bloody sock. Oh, Kurt Schilling. Yeah. I thought I was looking at Kurt Schilling out there. Hall of Famer. Shannon the dude. And I felt like Kurt Schilling last night. And we've talked a lot about the TBT tournament coming up at Rupp Arena, the La La Femilia, the Kentucky guy.
but they announced some roster news yesterday.
Marcus Teague, Reed, Travis, and Duran Lamb are not going to be able to suit up with Lafamia after all due to their obligations to their teams.
Like Reed Travis and Duran Lamb, they have to go overseas to play.
I think Marcus Teague is still playing in that three-on-three tournament.
Big three, yeah.
They did pick up Brendan Canada to fill one spot.
I think they're making another roster announcement today.
Is that right?
Did you hear that?
I don't know about one today, but I will tell you, I will tell you,
I was a broken man when Duran Lamb was removed.
I knew he would be.
I mean, I'm excited about everyone on that list.
It's going to be great to see all of them.
But Duran was the one I was most excited to see.
He's been gone the longest.
He's the champion.
He was the best player in New Orleans.
People forget that in that game against Kansas.
He's been overseas still playing over there.
So I was just excited to see D. Lamb come back and eat one more time in Rupp Arena,
but he is unable to participate.
That one got me.
He's a guy that doesn't seem to come around very often,
come back very often,
Unless we don't see him, is he just playing it low when he comes in?
I mean, he came back for an alumni game and didn't participate.
That was a bit of an issue.
That's been 10 years ago.
He overslept, didn't he?
There's different, different reasons.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, he just wasn't feeling it that day, I guess.
Whatever Dron had going on, that was Duran's business.
But he's still playing overseas.
I think that's the reason he's not participating in this.
But I was really excited to see number 20 and the three goggles back.
Well, stay tuned.
I think they're going to make a couple more roster now.
They announced Enos Cantor's brother earlier this week.
And Brendan Canada are joining the spots.
So the law familiar team, they got a charity scrimmage, I think, this weekend.
And the games next Friday.
Next Friday.
We took for tonight.
Tournament.com slash tickets.
I need to mention a couple things.
Longtime Trinity football coach and athletic director,
Coach Lampley had passed away.
He basically started Trinity football.
He won, I think, four state titles when he was an assistant coach.
Then he stepped away, came back as head coach, won four more state titles.
I think he's got eight titles to his credit.
Passed away, but Trinity football is what it is because of Coach Lampley.
And I think we just needed to recognize him because he had been suffering dementia, I think,
in Alzheimer's lately and passed away just this past week.
So, Drew, Trinity football is kind of the dominant force.
in the state of Kentucky, and it's all really because of him.
I lived in St. Matthews in Louisville for about a year over there by Trinity.
It's certainly a football powerhouse in the state, as you said,
was it a five-time champion?
Yeah.
That's crazy.
Yeah.
Certainly a legend.
No.
Four is an assistant coach.
Four is a head coach.
He's got eight state titles to his credit.
Yeah.
Dennis Samples had a 50 game winning streak at one point.
He's the guy that hired Bob Beatty, who's now won like 17 other state titles out there,
but just a shout out to him.
And Shannon, one more person that passed away, I know you were kind of sad about.
Benji Gregory, the kid who was the child on Alf.
He was little Brian on Alf.
He passed away at only 46.
He kind of sad what happened.
He fell asleep in his car and died of heat stroke in his car.
Oh, I didn't see that.
Yes, that's sad.
Him and his dog were both in the car.
And he had died of his car.
So I knew that made you sad.
You're such a big Alf fan.
Yeah, I have to go home later and do an Alf.
marathon, I guess, in honor of Benji Gregory.
So rest of peace, Benji Gregory and Coach Samples.
All right.
Tiger Woods was asked to be captain of the Ryder Cup team, the United States
Rider Cup team.
Quite an honor.
You'd think, I would think, he would have jumped at the chance to be the captain of the
Rider Cup team that he's played on for years and years and years.
Won championships.
And he said, no.
Drew, I don't get it.
Help me understand why he didn't want to do that.
He's a busy man.
We need someone that's 150% in to fight for America.
Tiger, he's opening puttuts and bars and golf simulator bars in New York with Justin.
He's a businessman now.
He's got his new clothing brand.
He's distracted.
I know he's a legend, but we need someone that can bring America back to the top of the Ryder Cup.
And that's why we went with Keegan Bradley.
Have you even heard of Keegan Bradley?
Never heard of him.
Let me tell you why Keegan Bradley was picked.
He was kind of expected to be picked last year.
And you know the show, full swing that follows them everywhere?
Yeah.
It was like the scene of the whole season, them calling him and telling him they're not picking him.
And they picked Justin Thomas was one of the ones here in Louisville.
It kind of thought there's a little bit of a boys club, and they went with popularity instead of some of the guys that were more deserving.
We go on, we lose to the Europeans.
It's kind of an issue.
We're breaking up the boys club.
We love Justin Thomas, nothing against him.
Kagan's getting his shot as the captain, and he's a guy.
He, like, lives and breathes the Ryder Cup.
So even though he's not the name of Tiger, this is, even the other golfers are like
Kagan needs to be the guy.
Like, all he thinks about is winning the Ryder Cup.
So he didn't even get invited to be on the team last time?
No, it was a big snub, and it was caught on camera, and it was kind of hard to watch.
He's with his wife.
They're doing the build-up thing, and he's going to make it, and then Zach Johnson calls him
and says he went with some guys who didn't have as good of a year, and then we'd go on to lose.
And then lost it.
So that's why...
They come back and make him the captain this time around.
Yes.
So it's not Tiger, but it's a guy who we can trust to lead our country into battle at Beth Page Black where Matt shot a 79.
Shannon, but it's Tiger and it's the Ryder Cup.
Yeah.
He's his dream.
His dream should have been to be the captain, not Keegan Bradley.
Yeah, maybe it's more our dream than his, though.
You know, like it seems like we want it more than he does.
Tiger's played a lot of golf, been a lot of rider cups.
I think he's just moving on with his life.
Keegan Bradley was on the team in 2012, Ryan.
We got home.
We lost in 2012.
We got home.
He has a picture.
He never opened his suitcase that says Rotter Cup 2012,
but sits in his garage,
and he says he will never unzip it until he wins one.
I mean, that's the guy we need.
It's 12 years ago.
That's true.
So he thinks about is winning the Ryder Cup.
You want that kind of guy on your team for sure.
But for Captain, you think you'd want Tiger Woods to be your captain.
Tiger, I'm telling you, he's Tiger.
He's worried about Charlie.
growing up being on tour.
He's got more money to make.
We need someone focused.
It's a good pick.
859-2-2-287.

Going to wrap it up on this Friday edition and wrap up the week here on Kentucky

Big, uh, appreciate Tom Leach coming in and spending some time with us today.
A lot of people sending up, now they, all kinds of questions.
They wish they were at asked Tom.
Uh, we need to get him back to just to ask some of those behind the scene stories,
like what it was like to work with Billy Gillespie and Cowell and Tubby and some of those
and get to see if he would tell us some good stories on that on like that.
Sounds like if Shannon will just keep.
playing his favorite songs he was ready to hang out all day i think you ran him off yeah shouldn't be an
issue uh who's our sponsor we got this segment drew uh who do we have do up don franklin
oh all right you should go to don franklin auto for all your don franklin needs yes with 27 locations

They have just about every vehicle you can think of,
just added Toyota.
They've been a longtime sponsor of KSR,
so check them out.
Don Franklin Auto.com.
This is on the Aviation Glass Tech Machine.
Summer League is a lot of ISO ball,
so assists may be low.
I still think Reed Shepard is the kind of guy.
You know, we saw it a lot in high school,
where he tries to make other players around him involved, get them involved.
And I think that's probably the good he'll do here early in his professional career.
You know, they're not going to cut him.
He was the number three pick in the draft.
It's where Reed can do so much.
I don't know what we're going to get the best of tonight.
I think Rob's taking a lot of shots.
Yeah, I can see that.
I think Rob's been hungry to be the main guy for a long time.
And I think we're going to see a lot of Rob dealing him tonight.
Good or bad, hoping good.
But of all of them, I think I'm most excited to see him.
So did you go with?
Dillenham over 20?
I still haven't submitted anything yet.
But that is certainly the way I'm leaning and then read.
This will be a KSR parlay?
It can be whatever.
Yeah, sure.
We haven't done it on a lot.
We'll have it put it on the app if you want.
Put it on there.
All right, 859, 2802-2287.
Who we got, Shannon?
Casey.
Casey, go ahead, Casey.
Hey, good morning, fellas.
I just wanted to call and give you guys some comeuppance
because these summer shows are,
has to be so hard.
Andy and I will talk on the phone and try to think of things to call and ask you guys
because there's just nothing going on hardly besides baseball.
So I just wanted to tell you all you're doing an absolutely fantastic job while Bigtoe is gone.
And I hope you guys have a great weekend.
Go catch.
I think Casey just won our Don Franklin Call of the Day.
I don't think there's any dispute with that.
Do you, Drew?
No, you should go to Don Franklin Auto.com.
They're driven by family, 27 locations around the state.
Don Franklin Auto.com and the call of the day.
call the day from Casey we appreciate it very much this is the aviation glass text machine
thanks for the shout out about my uncle Dennis Lampley five titles as head coach it was five
as head coach four as assistant coach but get this he also has a state title as the head
golf coach. Wow coach Lampley is the Trinity Shamrock absolutely what a legend not a legend
so what else you got going on this weekend you got any big plans this weekend I'm driving to
Finley Ohio a little later today oh huh I will be back
Sunday playing Valhalla Sunday with Billy.
How did they work that out?
I don't know.
I got to say that.
I'm a little nervous.
I haven't swung a golf club.
I don't even know.
I think last time I played a full 18 keeping score has been maybe multiple years, at least a year.
This is not the course to just break your clubs out and walk out on the course.
Well, it's like a dream round and I want to give it my best, and I'm going out there completely cold,
but I'm very excited Billy arranged that looking forward to it when I get back from Ohio.
Shannon, what are you got this weekend?
You still moving?
No, well, I'm just doing the little things now.
Now it's like, you know, hang pictures up on the wall, decorate, that type of thing.
So a bunch of nothing other than that.
What about you?
Well, nothing either.
But the reason I ask you guys, because I guess starting next week, the college football, EA sports game comes out.
Oh, man.
So that's what everybody's going to be doing.
You won't be seeing me.
I'll tell you that.
I've got two more KSR show.
Maybe one more.
One more KSR showing me.
Drew, you would know the answer to this question.
If I buy the new game, do I have to buy a, like,
the newest system to play the new game.
You will.
You will need a new PS5 or a new Xbox, whatever Xbox is.
I can't throw them.
I have a PS5.
I can't do it with the Xbox 360.
That's two out of date.
You're going to have to catch up.
Sega Genesis.
No.
See, I didn't realize that either.
So you have to have the updated system.
See, that's a commitment because it goes from buying a, what, $75 game to now an all-new
system, which costs, I don't know what, $3, $500, something like that.
Yeah.
Now we're talking about a big commitment.
to play a video game.
It's not any video game.
It's a full-time job.
Tuesday morning?
There's a countdown thing.
It might even be a little earlier.
You can pay extra to get it Tuesday or it comes out on Thursday.
I overpaid because I can't wait two days.
So you want to get it on Tuesday?
Yeah, probably won't sleep next week.
I've even bought, I put like those lights behind your TV that people have.
Yeah.
It kind of goes on the wall.
I installed those a couple nights ago.
Just to play the game?
Oh, yeah, I got a new controller.
Might even look into some speakers.
I'm just coming over to your house to play.
I need some good locks on the door.
I need to throw my phone in the river, and I'm ready to go.
So is it just going to be current teams and current players?
Or they're like they'll be old.
Can we play with Jerry?
You have so much to learn, Ryan.
We're building a dynasty.
I will be coaching in the year 2040 about a month from now.
I will have multiple national champions.
I will be a legend.
All of that without sleeping, eating, or leaving one room in my home.
I'll write Abby letters.
But the people that are playing this game,
you have a full-time job starting next week.
You have to recruit, develop, your staff can leave.
You have to go out and find a new staff.
There is so much work ahead that we are all about to embrace on this journey together and start our dynasty.
We've lost Drew for the summer.
That's why this is his last free weekend right here.
Cannot wait.
He is gone.
EA sports coming out on Tuesday.
All right.
We appreciate everybody who turning in.
Next week we got a couple pop-up shows.
We'll tell you about that.
And Mike Myron Midgath comes back on Monday.
