Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Comedy off.
All right, good morning, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.
It is Tuesday, July 16th.
It's my niece's birthday.
Happy birthday to Little Lily.
My favorite niece, because she's my only niece.
And Ryan Drew, Shannon, Billy Mario, the Hoot Cruise here,
and we are at Whiskey Thief Distillery in Franklin County.
We'll tell you about that in a minute.
As always, our Kentucky Sports Radio sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office called T.J. Shannon.
He'll make them pay.
They'll make them pay.
We'll have our Don Franklin call the day.
We'll have our Kentucky branded tweet of the day.
And we'll appropriately have the Whiskey Thief song of the day, Shannon.
No, probably.
We definitely will.
I think every song will be the Whiskey Thief song of the day today since we're actually sitting in Whiskey Thief.
I love the way you think.
So, yeah, we are at Whiskey Thief here in Franklin County.
We've been here several times, but this is part of our pop-up tour.
So, Shannon, tell us about it.
Well, it's been around for 11 years.
It's a small-batch, a small single-batch distillery, part of the Kentucky Bourbon Craft Trail.
and you can go to whiskey thief.com to book a tasting tour.
Special surprise later today in the show involving our own Drew Franklin from here at Whiskey Thief.
Yeah, they have four large barrels of bourbon here in front of me.
I think they're going to open those.
They have the Whiskey Thieves.
You know what those are?
Ryan, you're still learning how to use them?
No, I got disparaged on the pre-show.
I mean, look.
I became a Whiskey Thief expert last time we were here.
You dumped out three bottles worth of whiskey through the Whiskey Thief onto the floor before you could even fill your first bottle.
Well, that was a favor to the dog that's walking around here.
The dog doesn't need the burden.
No.
So what are we doing with these four barrels here today, Drew?
We're going to have Walter from Whiskey Thief come on a little bit and explain more,
but I'm going to pick one.
And I would like help if anybody wants to come by and help me pick.
I mean, I know what I know, but I could always use some extra pallets in this tasting process.
But then we're going to bottle it up and do a little barrel pick.
And then when we're here in the fall for our usual football season remote,
we'll have that available.
So we're going to have our own bourbon.
So do we have a name for this, Drew Franklin, Burman?
I have a list of names.
I've been going over.
Walter and I, I'll admit, it's more me.
Big procrastination on this project, but excited about it.
So no, we haven't dialed in the name.
I have a few I really like, but I haven't committed to one yet.
I'm also open to suggestions if anybody wants to send in it one too.
Well, that's not a bad idea.
We could ask people to call in their own suggestion.
859-2-80-2287.
If you want to call a suggestion of Drew's Burb.
Drew's Barrel.
We'll call for now.
Drew's barrel pick.
You can hit us up on the A-Vision Glass text machine.
502-735-3680.
We'll be going to that as well.
Maybe find out in Shannon.
Name of Drew's new bourbon.
It's getting ready to come out.
Yeah, nothing really comes to mind immediately.
But let me think about it.
Maybe we'll have some good answers here in the next segment or two.
There's got to be a catchy little phrase with Drew's brew, obviously, would be an obvious one.
Yeah.
Well, you don't brew.
Yeah, this is bourbon.
Yeah, he don't brew bourbon.
We'll let the listen.
or help out. You drive the show and we'll let the suggestions come in through the text machine.
First of all, Drew, I'm completely surprised you're even here because EA sports college football
came out yesterday. I can't believe one, you're here, and two, did you sleep at all last night?
I did. I didn't play it as much as I thought I would, to be honest. I had a pretty busy night,
but I still committed several hours. For one, I showed a lot of restraint when it dropped at
four o'clock. I was in my seat at three o'clock, ready. But instead of making it about me,
and starting to play, I went through and got a bunch of screenshots and did website post.
I did some actual work for this.
Oh, okay.
Maybe get a little text right off and buying that game.
You know, I'm working there.
So a lot of my first few hours on the game, I was just getting things to put on the site.
You know, these are player ratings, this and that.
But then I actually played a game.
I played against Tennessee.
It is so fun and realistic how Kruegerfield looks.
Yeah.
I mean, just running out, I tweeted a video of the intro, but they have all the sounds, you know,
You're sitting there picking your plays and you're hearing Go Big Blue.
I feel like I heard a faint Carl Nathie in the background when I scored a touchdown.
So even though I didn't get to get into it too much of the actual gameplay, I did get to play twice.
I played Tennessee and against South Carolina.
How'd it go?
Do you want me to lie?
No, I want you to tell me how.
Did you win?
Did Kentucky win?
Here's one thing that I might not top for the rest of not playing the game.
My first quarter of gameplay, Tennessee's kicking a field goal, and I blocked a field goal.
That's hard to do on because.
football games. I think I did that five times ever in the past. And Jordan
Loven scooped it up and took it back for a touchdown. So I'm screaming in my own home.
Tennessee scored 35 unanswered after that. Oh no. Defense, I can't stop a nosebleed on there.
It's a problem. I change the settings. I'm still getting carved up. So I'm not quite ready.
You got it on an easy setting right now? I took it down a setting. I played one of the higher
wins because I thought it's been 15 years. I can still do this. But no, Josh Hyple's
offense was carving me up. I hate to admit that. I got to work on my defense.
But the game, awesome.
It really is.
And it lived up to the hype.
Billy was talking on the pre-show.
He went out and spent $1,600 on a new system.
New system.
He got, of course, the new game.
Yes.
He got a new TV and a new stand.
That's right.
That's a commitment right there.
That is a huge financial commitment that he's going to be sleeping on the couch, I think, for weeks to come.
Just to play the game, went out and bought all new equipment.
That's his wedding gift to himself.
I will say I threw a wild touchdown pass to Dane Key that was.
tipped. He caught it in the corner.
They had to, it kind of looked like the one-handed when he had
two years ago. They had to review it.
I'm nervous. They end up calling it a catch.
They panned to the crowd.
I'm screaming, show me shirtless
Ryan Lemon, you cowards, but you were not in there
unless I just missed you. But there was a crowd shot
right where you sit in that corner after a
Dane touchdown, and I didn't see you on there.
So on the game, does it take like 10 minutes for them
to review it like it does in real life?
It took a little while, and I was loving it because they're showing the
crowd and playing music.
So it was neat. I mean,
If you can get it, I highly encourage it.
It lived up to the hype.
Josiah got it, and he spent the entire evening developing his own player.
Not playing the game.
That's a big deal to develop your own player.
It's a full commitment.
You've got to recruit.
You've got to go through seasons.
You've got to do like the whole thing.
Do you practice on there, too?
After Tennessee beat me on my own floor, on turf.
I stopped playing games, and I went to that, like, training mode.
I spent an hour just as free safety's batting.
passes, I'm in coverage, so I might do another two days of just training before I even play another game.
Can you condition your guys, your little digital guys, and run them so much they throw up?
This training thing, it's unbelievable the drills they have available for you to do.
I mean, I feel like I was going through real practices.
So I'll be doing a lot more training before I get warped in Kroger Field again.
Well, I know there are a lot of people listening right now.
People my age and owner are like, why are you guys making such a big deal by this?
It's a video game.
It's a major deal.
You don't understand.
For the people, what, you think 45 and under?
40 and under.
Yeah.
You guys age and under.
It's a huge deal.
Yeah, you got people like Josiah who probably video game a lot.
Yes.
And then you have people like me who haven't done it forever, but I grew up on it.
I had every one of them until they stopped making it in 2014.
So there's a lot of people 30s, maybe 40s where you're going back to your youth a little bit.
So if you still remember how to do it.
I may hold out on the football game, but I know when they create the basketball game,
I'm going to have to go out and spend $500 like Billy did.
a new system and get the game because it's going to be too good to pass up.
I found it interesting, like, how they rate all the players.
I'm going to try to pull up some of our highest rated.
Dionne Walker and Maxwell Harrison were the top two.
That was announced before the game came out.
Berion, I'm trying to pull out what his actual grade is because I don't remember,
but he is unstoppable in that game.
As a returner?
No, it just.
As a receiver.
Vertes, Barion run.
We're throwing it to you in the end zone.
He's a little bit of a cheat code.
So for old school gamers, it's like Bo Jackson and Super Tecmo Bow.
You couldn't stop him.
No.
Now, I saw a thing on social media where they ranked the top college players that we all missed out on that weren't.
Because it's been what, 10 years?
Has it been 10 years?
Yeah.
So in the last 10 years, top college players that we missed out on weren't part of this game.
Lamar Jackson was number one.
But you know who was number five?
Who's that?
Lynn Bowden.
Oh, great call.
That is a good call for him.
He would be a lot of fun on this game.
It would be a lot of fun on this game.
He'd just be crazy on it.
So, yeah, some guys like me and Phil sitting here.
We don't really maybe get it, the hype.
But I understand it's a big deal.
Everybody else is talking about it.
Here are the highest rated players on Kentucky.
I'll just do the top ten.
In order, Dionne Walker, Max Harrison, Eli Cox,
with an 86 overall.
Marcus Cox.
No, Eli's 88.
The other Cox is 86.
And then Dane Key and Barryon Brown are both in 85.
Then J.J. Weaver.
They got Hardaway in Childress.
and then Derek Jackson.
One thing that stunk is DJ Waller Jr.
who joined the team as a transfer a little late,
and then Dumas Johnson, two of the stars on defense aren't on the game.
Just create them.
That's part of the reason I'm blaming Tennessee beat me up.
The game didn't give me my full rotation of players.
I see.
I think Dumas Johnson opted out,
and then they'll eventually have an update where they can add people with the roster.
Brandegryff on the roster?
He's on there.
He was taking way too many sacks.
So let's say you've got a guy on your team that you don't play a whole lot.
Can he just jump in the transfer portal and just leave you?
There is a portal.
You have to recruit your players to stay.
It's going to be a full-time job once you get into the dynasty mode.
So we're here at Whiskey Thief.
We can come on out.
We've got some people here.
Come on out and join us.
It's just off exit 48 off of I-64, just north of I-64 off exit 48.
So it's close by.
Come out and see us.
We've got to talk just a little basketball before we get to the break because the
TBT team, I believe, do they scrimmage the UK team tonight?
Is it tonight?
or is it tomorrow night?
They're scrimmaging the UK team
like as a practice scrimmage.
Yeah, I know they practice yesterday.
I don't know exactly when that is going to be going on
between the current team.
I think it might be tonight, but it could be tomorrow.
But they're going on.
We're going to meet and greet with them,
the TBT team tomorrow at KS Bar and Grill.
You can just ask them then.
I'm going to.
I hope it's tonight because they'll call come in limping,
walking a little stiff leg, get a little sore maybe.
But I hope it's tonight so we can kind of
maybe get a little inside scoop, Drew,
on what Mark Pope's team looks like.
I'm looking forward.
to hearing from the TBT team.
We should bring Mario at some point.
He went to their weekend.
Let's do that.
He saw the scrimmage and watched in person.
I wasn't able to make it.
Saw Nate Sistina lighted up for 38 points.
But yeah, if they're able to play against the current players before we get to talk to them,
it would be good to get scouting reports from alums on the current team.
It's interesting to see on this throwback team,
and Myron touched on a little bit yesterday on the show,
the guys that have continued to play who maybe weren't standout players in college the first time,
you know, when they were here at Kentucky,
Then they come back, and all of a sudden, they're Jordan out there.
It's a student going on for 38 points.
Well, he's probably the one who's in the best shape.
I'm sure that plays into it.
The guys are.
I think Willie Colley Stein was walking a little soft on his toes after the pickup game the other night at Tate's Creek.
Are we going to have Willie on the air?
Got to.
You know, he was in the Bahamas with me.
Yeah.
It's been 10 years.
Are you saying some of the Bahamas stories could possibly come out?
I have not spoken to Willie since the Bahamas.
We'll say what Willie wants to say, but if he's going to be on the air,
we should at least mention that we were there at the same time and then go from there.
And ask him, what do you remember outside of basketball?
What do you remember about that Bahamas trip?
Well, I guess the Harrison Twins were there.
Ulyss was there.
A lot of the TB team was there.
We'll let them know ahead of time and see how they feel about talking about the Bahamas.
They might want to just focus on La Familia.
But if Willie's interested, maybe we'll tell a little bit about Atlantis.
That's what the summer pop-up show tour is all about, Shannon.
That's right.
We never know where we're going to be.
What's going to happen.
So coming out, Whiskey Thief Distillery.
Phone lines are open.
859-280-2287.
That's the Clark's Puppet Shop phone number.
If you've got a name for Drew's new bourbon, we're about to find out how it's going to taste.
We'll pick the right bourbon.
And also we got Webster County up today.
It's Webster County Day.
Second region in the house again for you, Drew.
Love some Webster County.
They were great neighbors when I lived in Madisonville.
A lot of that and a lot more coming up here on Kentucky Sports Radio.
We'll be right back.

The question is, how do you conquer them?
On Hurtle with Emily Abadi,
we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports

that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going from the WNBA standout Kate Martin
and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't
feel like you don't belong.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.

All right, welcome back. Kentucky Sports Radio here.
Ryan, Drew, Shannon.
Thank you, Phil.
Live at Whiskey Thief Distillery here in Franklin County,
just off Exit 48, off of I-64.
We'll be out here for the show, and after the next segment,
we're going to pick, Drew's going to pick his bourbon.
They've got these four untapped barrels right in front of us.
Get a pick their bourbon.
We're looking for some names.
You got anybody sending any good names yet or anything?
I haven't been looking.
You got the text machine.
That's where I think the good ones are.
All right, we'll check out the text machine.
502-3-35-36-80.
I could use help, too.
if anybody wants to come by.
Well, Shannon and I are here to help you.
Yeah, we'll take votes.
I don't want to be the only one to pick.
We have to address what happened over the weekend.
I know we didn't really touch on it yesterday when Myron was here because it just wasn't the right feel for it.
But today I think we have to, you know, it was just a sad day in American history over the weekend
when the assassination of attempt of a former president, regardless if you're a Republican or a Democrat,
whether you like Trump or you don't like Trump, that's not the answer.
That's not the way to do it.
Violence is never the answer.
And thankfully he survived, but unfortunately, you know, the former fire chief of that town,
Butler, Pennsylvania was hit and killed.
It was a sad situation that it's a senseless act.
And now the Republican Convention is in Milwaukee.
Security is just out the roof right now.
I've been seeing some news reports on it.
Trump did show up.
He's got a bandage on his ear, so, you know, he's okay.
but Shannon.
I mean, that's, like I said, I don't care if you're a Republican or Democrat.
That's not the way to handle it, man.
No, it shouldn't matter.
You hit on it, sad.
It's a sad state that our country is in right now where you can't go out to something as simple as a rally for a president without fearing for your life.
And now I think that that's going to be in everybody's mind, you know, if they continue to do these.
I don't know what they do moving forward.
But, yeah, just really sad.
And, you know, if you don't like the guy, that's fine.
You know, we can all disagree on things, but that's not the way to handle that at all.
Yeah, I mean, the tragedy of the death, first and foremost, thoughts of prayers, his family,
and just Trump's so lucky, man.
If you see that diagram where he, like, turned his head and now it could have been so differently.
Very lucky.
So lucky that he's all right.
I will say a little, like him coming out at the Republican convention with the bandage on.
Yeah.
I'm not, I don't particularly like Donald Trump, but that was kind of badass.
Yeah.
That and the image of him standing up with the blood,
trickling down his face, fist in the air, American flag behind him is one of the most iconic
shots that we're going to be seen for years and years to come.
And secondary to that on the photo, did you see the photographer?
Everyone's ducking and he runs, like, doesn't even care to get that photo.
That guy, I mean, that's a photo that will be in books a century from now, and he ran to the
action to get that.
There's a clip of him getting right in the middle of it.
It's crazy.
I'm just sadden that somebody lost a life over that.
It's ridiculous.
Apparently a guy, like I said, he was fired.
chief he was beloved in that community and he was died with throwing his body over his daughters yeah so
so sad and then separate of that i hate how the internet everyone wants to be the first reports i saw
like eight different people reported as the shooter there's all kinds of nonsense every which direction
i wish we could just tone down everything a little bit we have to get better as a country that's
that's for sure that's it so uh thank thank god there weren't more than the one death you're right about
One is way too many.
Way too many, but it could have been awful.
It could have been awful.
Trump did announce his running mate, and it's a guy who's been on this radio show.
Oh, that's right.
I forgot about that.
Jay-D. Vance from Breffitt County, Kentucky, wrote the Hillbilly Ulogy.
Now it lives in Ohio.
He's been on this show.
Matt had him on his podcast.
It's now the vice presidential candidate for Donald Trump.
What do you think of your thoughts about that?
I mean, this is more Matt's realm.
I don't know who should be.
Republican Vice President candidate.
I was just surprised.
It was the name I heard.
But yeah, I know he's got the, was it Hillbilly Uly
Ulogy?
Yes.
Got a little connection to
made a movie out of it.
Got a little connection
to Eastern Kentucky there.
Just so big news
on top of what happened over the weekend.
I feel like we're really closely connected
to the White House.
You know, first of all, we've been in the White House.
We've done a show on the White House.
You had that creepy picture behind Joe Biden.
You know, we get to meet him.
Now we've had...
And he's in the mix for on down the road.
They're soon.
Right.
Yeah.
I mean, J.D. Vance.
I mean, there's a lot of connections in KSR and the White House that we have.
Matt fell into the reflection pool.
That's right, yeah.
That was really fun.
That's probably my favorite political thing we've ever done.
Now, since this is kind of our sad segment, we've got to go ahead and talk about it.
It was a sad weekend.
We lost three celebrities.
We'll start with Richard Simmons first.
Hey, sweating to the oldies.
You know, the guy was an icon when it came to, you know, being a fitness guru.
You could not turn on the TV at a point in the 80s, and he was not on it.
It seemed like such a lovable.
guy. I would listen to his interviews on the Howard
Stern Show and they would always be goofing on him.
I kind of just felt bad for him, you know?
But I was sad to see that. And remember that
podcast that came out? I think we actually listened to it
on one of the KSR Road trips. Where is
Richard Simmons? He just kind of went into
hiding for years. Nobody could find him.
I didn't, Sunday
was so, or Saturday, whatever, that day was
so crazy. I didn't find out about Richard Simmons
to like the next day. It was like a second wave
of news coming to me. But Shannon's right.
He popped back up and that podcast was huge
where I think it's called searching for Richard Simmons,
he just kind of disappeared off the face of the area.
Okay, now I ride a shotgun with Matt.
So Matt wanted to hear that podcast.
I have to listen to it.
I assumed you guys zoned out and put your earbuds in and weren't even paying any attention.
I caught some of it.
I wanted to know where Richard Simmons was.
Yeah.
It was sad.
Like, apparently he would just hold up in his house for over a year.
Nobody had seen.
Well, they were talking like, is he being, like, held against his will?
That's right.
There was different theories and stuff as to why he hasn't, you know, been in public for so long.
Apparently, he was planning a comeback right before.
And he did an interview, I think, two days before he passed.
Oh, I didn't realize that.
Which made it even more sad.
So another celebrity that passed away over the weekend, Shannon Doherty, in the 90s,
she was as big as any star on Beverly Hills 90210 or another show she was on.
Charmed was the other one, yeah.
I mean, she had been battling an illness for a long time.
She passed away over the weekend.
They say it comes in threes.
Well, there's the third one.
I know.
There's a third one.
What's the third one?
Dr. Ruth Westheimer.
That's right.
Dr. Ruth.
Dr. Ruth.
The sex doctor.
She was on so many light infomercials.
I mean, in the 80s, when I was watching TV, I thought she was 90 years old then.
Well, she was probably in her, I guess, what, 70s, do the math.
60s.
Well, I don't know how old she was when she passed this weekend.
96.
96 years old.
What a life.
But she was this sweet little old grandma-looking lady, and she'd come on TV and talk about sex in the 80s.
I couldn't believe it.
I mean, now it's like nothing in TV today's world,
But back in the 80s, that was like, whoa, who is this woman talking about bada bing, bada boom?
Were you watching a lot of this?
I did.
Did you get a lot of tips?
Yes, I did.
Because there's nothing else to watch.
We got three channels.
Got the three Evansville channels.
Like, you got when you were a kid, Channel 7, channel 14, channel 25.
That was it.
So you watched Dr. Ruth on Evansville TV.
I did.
I watched Ryan Lemon on Evansville TV.
Well, you had talked about different subject matter, though.
I didn't give you sex tips for a young Drew Franklin.
Thank God.
watching down to Madisonville.
So we just want to give a shout out to those three.
Kind of three big TV icons.
Dr. Ruth and Richard Simms probably in the 80s and Shannon Doherty in the 90s.
It's kind of, you know, it's sad when something like that happens.
Yeah, it was a very sad weekend overall.
Let's get some good news.
Yes.
The Major League Baseball draft is going on.
Still?
Yeah.
What?
How many days this is to go?
We had two more Kentucky Wildcats drafted yesterday in the 10th round.
But first we'll talk about in the first round, Ryan Waldsmith drafted in the first round, Drew.
They talked about during their big baseball run in the playoffs in the College World Series.
He was going to be a first-round draft pick.
Yes, but I'm a little bitter about it.
Shannon, he was right there for our Atlanta Braves.
They were mock drafts taking him.
I think we're 24th.
We didn't get a pitcher who's going to be very good.
But I was rooting to get Walty in Atlanta, but he goes to Arizona instead a few picks later.
But very excited.
He got to be a first-round pick.
I think it's the eighth in school history, and it's the third under Mingeone for a first-round player.
So good for him.
He had a great year and had a lot of fun watching him.
Great to see him in the first round.
But the thing about Major League Baseball that's different about other sports is,
first of all, it goes on for a month.
It does.
And, you know, there's been a lot of great players that have been drafted like in the seventh round,
eighth round.
So it doesn't necessarily mean it even if we have some guys maybe draft.
Is it still going on today?
I believe so.
So let's say we got a cat that's drafted today.
It doesn't mean that he can't have a good Major League Baseball career just because he was, you know,
drafted in the 10th round.
Well, in the 10th round yesterday, Ryan Nicholson, first baseman from,
Louisville, Kentucky, St. X High School.
He went in the 10th round, set the single season.
Well, I guess he tied it.
Tied the single season home run record.
Just a great, great season he had this year.
Yeah, he and Puzer both got picked.
Also, Petrie, the second baseman, went on day one,
and then one of their sign-ease, second baseman got picked.
Pretty high-up, so we'll have a decision to make if he wants to follow through with that commitment to Kentucky
or go ahead and turn pro.
So far, lots of backcats going on the draft.
Yeah, you mentioned Trey Poozer went yesterday in the 10th round.
He became really the ace.
He was the Friday night starter.
Not to start the season he wasn't, but he finished the season.
He had it ended up really strong.
Yeah, kind of very unexpected the year he had where he emerged as the guy.
Kind of hindsight 2020.
Wish maybe they put in the ball on his hand one more time in Omaha, but it's good to see he's moving on.
You're going to have a good shot at a pro career.
So we're going to take our break.
We come back.
Walter from Whiskey Thief will be here.
He's going to open up four barrels.
First time they've been opened, right?
It's right.
Brand new barrels.
You're going to sample them and put.
Pick the bourbon that's going to be Drew Franklin's
Bourbon, but we need a name.
Hit us up.
859-280, 2-287 or the text machine.
502-735-3680.
We'll be right back.

Life throws hurdles big and small.
The question is, how do you conquer them?
On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them
and the mindset that keeps them going.
From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki.
The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me.
And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.
At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Like, I can do anything.
I can do anything.
Because resilience isn't just about winning.
It's about showing up, even when it's hard.

Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports.
All right, welcome back.
We're at Whiskey Thief Distilling Company here in Franklin County, just off I-64 on Exit 48, just north of the Iowa,
a high-ed-64 off Exit 48.
So we'll come out and see us.
We've got a crew here.
We've got some people who've been here on a tour, stumbled on over into our show here.
And Drew, we've got a couple names for your bourbon already.
Let's hear them.
Franklin's finest.
Okay, I like that.
Drew Maroon Brew, based on your Madisonville Maroons.
I love the Maroons, but I think I might eliminate that one.
DBP Bourbon.
I don't get that one.
What was it again?
D.B.P.
These aren't exactly a lot of great suggestions.
Drew's Drankan bourbon.
We're just getting started.
You know, we've got to walk before you can run.
Franklin's Kentucky Treasure.
All right.
Now we're getting somewhere.
Big Blue Mash.
These are all, what do you think about this, Walter?
Any of those jumping off the page?
Any more?
Let's keep going.
You still got a lot of time left in the show?
Yeah, that's right.
I appreciate the submission.
This is going to hurt you.
What's that?
One yard short bourbon.
I will fight that person.
What's their phone number?
I'm not going to tell you.
And apparently it's Hillbilly elegy, not Hillbilly eulogy.
Yeah.
My fault.
I misspoke there.
I think I said that too after you maybe.
Yeah, so my fault.
All right, joining us now is Walter here from Whiskey Thieves.
Can't give it up for Walter here.
become a good friend of the show.
We've done several shows out here at the distilling company,
and you've got a special treat for us.
You've got, you just opened four barrels of bourbon,
and so we can pick, so Drew can pick, you and Drew can pick,
the one that Drew's going to represent.
That's right.
So four barrels of bourbon, straight out of the barrel,
uncut and unfiltered, literally just opened them.
So they ranged from six to eight years old,
various mash bills, and various proofs.
from 107 being the lowest, up to 124 proof at the highest.
So, like, 120 proof is about 60% alcohol by volume.
So, yeah.
And what do you hope to do with Drew's bourbon we're getting ready to find out about?
Well, make people happy, I guess.
Yeah, carbon usually does.
To have a toast to a great basketball and football season.
And, yeah.
We usually end up here in football season.
Exactly.
We're going to be ready to have us out here again this fall.
So it'll be a good time to get the bottle out and maybe find it in Croberfield's parking lot.
I want to tell you had a promotion.
You brought us out here with Michael Kiggilchrist.
You had a bourbon with him.
Is this kind of a similar as thing?
Yes, exactly.
And they're very similar.
Thank you, Ryan.
For putting me on them too.
And so, yeah, Michael, and we raised a bunch of money for Michael's charity with that deal.
And that was a very cool partnership.
We still talk to him, and he's talking about doing some other stuff with us.
And so, yeah.
And, you know, I think the goal would be my goal.
In any case, we'd also you'd be able to sample.
Drew's Bourbon at the KS Bar and Grill.
Nice.
Oh, yeah.
We're going worldwide.
Yeah, worldwide.
While we have you, though, aside from the barrel pick,
will you just explain to people the awesome experience here at Whiskey Thief?
Because we've explained it before, and you've seen Ryan try to do it and make a mess,
so he's not the expert.
But explain just what the Whiskey Thief is.
Yes.
So I think you guys mentioned, 12 years old distillery, we let people come in,
taste straight out of the barrel, uncut and unfiltered the way nature intended it,
using a whiskey thief, which is basically a big, kind of like a, almost like a soda straw, but it's made a copper.
It's about, I don't know, two and a half feet long, and it allows you to, you put your thumb over that, you create a little suction.
It allows you to trap that bourbon, pull it out of the barrel, put it straight in the glass and taste it.
That's when Ryan spills it all over the floor.
Now, now.
So Fridays and Saturdays are the nights to really be here, right?
That's when you get the live music and a lot happening here.
Yes, so Thursday through Sunday, we have food.
We have an awesome food truck that is here.
In those days, and then we have live music.
And, yeah, it's a lot of fun.
We, you know, for people who want to come, make a reservation, go online, book it, but we also take walk-ins.
Now, I'm, you guys know, I'm not a huge bourbon guy, but you can taste the difference.
Your bourbon taste better.
There's something about it.
Why is that?
It's because it's uncut, unfiltered straight from the barrel.
Yeah.
It's straight out of the barrel.
Yeah.
You can taste the difference.
Well, thank you.
I think you can, too.
You know, when you do the filtering, it removes a lot of the flavor.
It makes for maybe a different product, I would say.
But leaving it unfiltered, really.
And you get, and every barrel tastes differently.
So when, you know, the big brands are taking thousands of barrels,
blending them all together to make one flavor profile,
we're letting every barrel do its own thing and have its own flavor and its own expression.
I'm sorry.
Yeah.
Most bourbon barrels, you know, they lose.
I think they call it the angel share, just a little bit evaporates.
But when Ryan Lemon goes to a barrel, how much bourbon would you say you lose to the floor?
and he tries to bottle his own.
Shannon and I have now seen it three years.
We will walk up to a completely dry barrel that has been used 50 people, 100 people have already used it.
But after Ryan leaves, it looks like he just poured the barrel on the ground.
Well, I wasn't going to say anything, but Ryan's share has become a household turn around here.
So you occasionally get that guess that is just like spraying all over the place.
That's known as the Ryan's share now in the industry.
I'm going to hold my bottle underneath yours just so I can fill up my second bottle from your spillage.
You should have a funnel for guys like me.
Put the funnel in the top of the bottom.
bottle it's easier for us to hit you know sometimes we have hard time hitting the hole okay all right
walter we've enjoyed talking a little burden with you here we're going to keep going throughout the
show as we look into these and we're going to taste these right and pick one thanks for hopping on
with us all right so is this one one two three four all right so uh we'll sample that and we'll
go in order before you go what was one again so we'll know one is a seven year 120 proof 72% corn
18% rye and 10% maltiparly okay we'll narrow that down and we'll have one
bottled up the next time we're here.
Excellent.
How about Drew's barrel of fun?
I already have that.
It's something else.
You know, you showed me some mock drafts
of the logo.
We did.
We were kicking those around.
That's still, we're far away from that.
But he drew up some samples and his team put him on an actual bottle,
and I will say I was very impressed.
It's kind of surreal seeing your name in one case of my face on a bottle of bourbon.
Can we talk about the labels yet or that kind of top secret?
Well, those were just for fun.
That's not going to be the label.
We were just toying around.
But I like it because a couple of them have, like, the championship banner, kind of with your name on it there.
The one with your face, though, the thumbs up.
They made you do your face with the three goggles.
That might be the winning one to put on there.
Should I tell them why we didn't do it earlier this year?
We were going to do it earlier this year.
And I was like, I just...
You'll pick your bourbon earlier this year?
We were going to do...
It was going to be a basketball bourbon.
Okay.
And I don't know if it was just a little intuition, I was like, I don't really want to launch a bourbon this March.
It was like a gut feeling.
and he takes to me right after, well, Texas A&M and then Oakland, like, what'd you know?
Good call. Good call.
There was actually a lot of bourbon that was consumed, I think, after that lost to Oakland.
So, you know, it works in celebration situations and also when you're mourning a little bit.
That might have been a good time to, yeah, break it out of them.
They help everybody get over that ridiculous loss they had to Oakland last year for sure.
But regardless of my own brand, this is just a fun place to be.
I'm excited we're here, and then he got to come on and make fun of how you pour.
I'm still going to redeem myself today.
Is this the redemption tour?
This is the redemption tour.
859-280-2-287.
That's our phone number, our Clark's Pubbit Shop phone number.
We've got some phone lines open.
We'll get to some calls as soon as we can.
I mean, did you pay attention at all to the home run derby last night?
I did, but was it me or was it really complicated and confusing?
I mean, there's like a pitch clock.
There's a pitch limit.
There's like a bonus round that they went into.
I was having a really hard time following it because I feel like each year they add in another rule.
Did you follow it at all?
I actually turned off the college football video game to watch the home run derby,
and I even said aloud in a room by myself, I cannot believe this person you are right now.
You don't even like Major League Baseball.
I didn't even know most of the people in it.
But I gave it a chance, and I'm with Shannon.
I went in with an open mind.
I'm 30 minutes into it, and I'm like, this is just not interesting to me.
I don't really know who they are.
The rules have changed.
I miss back in the day Chris Berman back back.
back, Griffey with the hat on backwards.
I mean...
Because you miss, like, the home run balls because they're going so fast.
You know, they want to speed everything up.
You know, I think back when it was slower, you had 10 outs, you swung the bat, you either
hit a home run or you were out, was a lot better because you could actually watch the ball
go 500 feet.
It'd be cool to see everyone go chase it.
Yeah.
Now they're just trying to speed everything up, and it's just quick pitch, and you're seeing
two, like, one ball still going in the air while the other one hasn't even landed yet.
I heard some guys were arguing that.
They said, like when Big Poppy would hit it, these big moon shots, he wouldn't get as much pitches as maybe a guy that's hitting line drive home run.
So they had to do a pitch count.
I agree with you.
That takes away part of the flare of the home run derby is to watch those moon balls and see where they land and little kids out there chasing around.
It did sort of end in dramatic fashion because it came down to one home run was the difference between the winner and second place.
Bobby Witt Jr.
Do you even know that name?
He sounds like a NASCAR girl.
Yeah, he's the son of Bobby Witt.
He used to be a pitcher.
It's the only reason I don't know this kid, but I know he's dad pitching a big league.
But it came down to one last swing that he had, and the ball went to deep center and hit off the wall,
which would have if it had gone over, would have put it in.
But, of course, the story of the night, though, wasn't that.
The story was the awful rendition of the national anthem that we got before it all started.
What was that?
Matt, can you get that ready?
We need to replay that.
John.
John, I'm sorry, John.
Can you get that ready?
I heard you and Billy played on the pre-show.
I missed it.
I didn't hear it.
Well, you didn't miss much.
But they have those awful renditions over the years.
Carl Lewis.
Roseanne comes to mind.
Fergie, the NBA All-Star game.
I was in the other room not paying attention yet because none of the started.
I'm busy not even noticing what's going on.
And then she hit a note where I did a full turn towards the TV quickly, like, what the hell is that?
And then you watch a few more seconds, and you see the players are giggling, and it just keeps getting worse.
bless her heart i'm ready to call it the worst of all time and this is she's a country music
recording artist yes has sold millions of albums ingrid andres ingrid andres i mean this is not
somebody pulled off the street she is a country music artist yeah so you know the weekend we had
we needed like a george bush moment at the major league we need to unify this country with a great
national anthem and then that i don't think that was it who's doing tonight before the game maybe
it's a it's a bounce back night for for dallas whoever it is like the pressure's off like it can't be
worse than that. Like Fergie was on the hook for a while.
Ingrid Andres completely took her off the hook. Don't forget the fray at the final four of the year old.
That wasn't good, but I don't even, I don't even want to compare that to what we heard last night.
I think John's got the audio. She told Fergie, hold my beer. So here we go. We're going to play it for you right here. Go ahead, John.
She probably thinks she's doing a good job.
Heart of me feels bad for her. Maybe she didn't know. She's hearing something in her ear.
You hear the groan. You hear the crowd?
Here it comes.
Bring it home.
Oh, wow.
Wow.
Like, did anybody tell her maybe in her management, like that wasn't good?
Do you think she knows today?
Do you think she woke up this morning going, man, I really nailed it last night?
No, she's got to be smart enough to know that that was awful.
That right there shows you studio magic.
You're right.
Because somebody's singing live versus in the studio, it's very easy to do.
It could put anybody in the studio and make you sound good.
If you're there, do you clap for her when she's done?
Or what do you do when you're done?
There was a point where the crowd was singing to help her out.
I would have done that.
Yeah.
It was, you know, it got made fun of it a lot on the Internet as it should.
That's what the Internet does.
But it's kind of sad, too, because that had to have been horribly embarrassing
once you realized after the fact how it sounded.
Ryan, Drew and Shannon, we're here at Whiskey Thief Distilling Company.

That's a second rounder guy.
Former Bersales guy, Whitford Kines.

All right, John.
We've got some phone lines.
People lined up on the phone lines.
Who we got first?
Luke.
Luke.
Go ahead, Luke.
Hey, guys.
Just a quick question.
I have a wedding the first Saturday of college football.
What's the best advice to watch the game?
I know Drew probably has experienced this dilemma.
But what would you say the best advice is?
I know it's not a big game for Kentucky.
I mean, it is the opener.
But, you know, week one.
One is always stacked with good games to watch no matter who you're watching, it seems like.
All right.
Do you know the time of the wedding in relation to the game?
The game's at 745.
You got a day wedding or is it a night?
It's an afternoon.
5.30 Central.
Oh, it might be timing that just right.
It's a 30 Eastern, yeah.
Sounds like the reception might be needed to find the TV.
Appreciate it, Luke.
First of all, shame on those people for getting married during football season.
We always say that.
Shame on you.
I did it, but I did a Friday.
I did my best.
And at least he could probably watch the first half before the wedding.
I mean.
No, no, the wedding's before the game.
The wedding's at 5.30.
The game's at 745.
He'll be hitting that just right.
That made right.
You get to the reception right in time for kickoffs.
Actually, it timed out pretty well probably for the guy.
You really got to hope that your people you're celebrating have a venue with a television.
If not, tell your date, I love you.
I want to be 100% a part of this experience, but I'm going to need my phone right in front of me all night.
And there's nothing wrong with that.
No, nothing wrong with that.
That's part of fall weddings.
Brian is not a football fan, doesn't care.
And, of course, it's all about her.
You guys, you are married, you have been married.
You know that.
So, unfortunately, if you're there as an attendee, you have to just kind of figure it out.
But, yeah, I mean, you can stream it on your phone.
I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
I've been at weddings where there's a big game going on, and maybe where the reception is doesn't have a TV,
but just off it in a hotel, there's like a bar.
Yeah.
And it can be sad where half the crowd has left the dancing and they're huddled around, you know,
LSU, Alabama.
You said I do.
You kissed each other.
Now let's go watch some football.
I'm just glad the timing worked out.
I think you're going to be okay.
Who's next, John?
Peggy.
Peggy.
Go ahead, Peggy.
Hey, good morning, guys.
Hey, I've got a couple of games for your beer.
Bourbon.
Okay.
Okay.
We can either go Drew's KSR Blue or Drew's Kentucky Blue.
Oh, those are two.
Those are two of them.
All right, Peggy.
I got some more here on the avidgen glass tech machine.
Okay, keep them coming.
Who up, Bourbon?
Who up, bourbon?
Maybe a little Duron lamb nod there.
Yeah, I like that.
Drink, D. Lamb?
Drew's Big Blue Brew.
There's a lot of blue being worked into.
Old Franklin's Barrel.
Okay, I'm feeling a little old.
Lynn Bourbon, Jr.
I saw that one.
That's a good pun.
That's my leader, Lynn Bourbon Jr.
Drew Shine, Drew's Double, D. Franklin Reserve, or Frank Franklin,
Franklin's bourbon.
I appreciate all these.
They will be written down.
They'll be written down and immediately thrown in the trash.
Who's next, John.
Give up another call.
Who we got?
Jason.
Jason.
Jason.
What's going on, fellas?
What's up, Jason?
I enjoy the show every morning.
I got the name for Drew's Bourbon.
Drew Frank Big Blue 22 in honor of our guy, Jerry.
That's really good.
You love the 22 on there.
Really good. Thank you. Appreciate that.
That's Jared Lorenzen, Chris Oates.
You can get them both right there. Lots of 22s.
Lots of 22s. I like that very much.
You know, it happened when I was on vacation.
The five-year anniversary of Jared's death was July 3rd.
I'm just like, oh, my goodness.
I mean, it's been five years.
Me, Tyler, and Luckett shared some memories that day.
I wanted to share a little more about I felt a little lump in my throat,
and I was hosting, and I thought, all right.
It's tough.
Feel something coming on.
But, yeah, I mean, July 3rd, that forever is ingrained in my brain is Jared Day.
Well, Taden, his son, it's going to be a junior at Fort Thomas Highlands,
has been had a good career so far, but I think this is maybe his breakout year he's going to have.
I think they're going to letting him wear number 22.
Oh, my goodness.
We may have to go up and watch a game this year.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Yeah, who's next, John?
Jerry.
Jerry.
Go ahead, Jerry.
Hey, you got a name for the bourbon.
It's Drew's Blue Cruz.
I like it.
Have we had one that doesn't say blue yet?
It's going to be hard to pick from all the Drew's Blues.
Well, that kind of rolls off the time.
I agree.
I like to rhyme as much as anyone.
All right, we come back.
Webster County.
You're on the clock.
We're going to hit our second region friend.
We invite you to come out here at Whiskey Thief Distilling Company.
Ryan, Drew, Shannon, Billy's here.
Mario's here, and we'll be back.

not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you
funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's

help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
