Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:02:04 All right, good morning, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. Yeah. Look at this. This is new. And welcome to this Wednesday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio. It is Wednesday, July 17th, and it's a big day here at KS. Bar and Grill. A big day. We'll get to all that.
Starting point is 00:02:21 As always, Kentucky Sports Radio is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office called T.J. What happened, Shannon? Hell, make them pay. Make them pay. Before the day's over, we'll try to squeeze in our Don Franklin, call the day our Kentucky branded tweet of the day and our whiskey thief song of the day and you also hit us up on the A Vision Glass Text Machine 502-735-3680 and Drew and me, Drew and I are here at Kentucky KS Bar and Grill and we have quite a buzz going on right now Drew tell us what's going on
Starting point is 00:02:48 this feels kind of surreal a we have sound on in here which we never do it's usually just the two of us yapping looking at each other in our pajamas but not only do we have a crowd our crowd consists of some of my favorite wildcats of all time, and there's looking at us Yap on the radio right now. We have Willie Colley-Stine, the Harrison, really the whole LaFamilia teams here. I can name them all, something around the corner. I don't want to miss any names.
Starting point is 00:03:08 But LaFamilia is here. We're going to bring on as many as we can throughout the show. I'm going to try to talk to everyone, including head coach Tyler Eulis, who is here. So it's a very exciting day to tune in, but I kind of feel like I'm living in a Kentucky fantasy land right now. It's a meet and greet for the TBT LaFamilia basketball team. We had people waiting
Starting point is 00:03:27 to get in as soon as we opened up this morning. So we've opened up early to come on out. The guys are here, though I'm sure they'll be welcome to our autographs, pictures, that sort of thing. We'll talk to them about a little basketball. I'm sure we'll squeeze in a little bit about that. But it is kind of cool to kind of see this reunion of these former players happening this morning. Yeah, and for the most part, it's been a while since we've seen all of them. You know, a lot of them from the earlier Calipari era with the TBT.
Starting point is 00:03:50 You can't use current players to some of the more recent guys are still playing. But, I mean, like I said, just UK legends in here. on a Wednesday morning, and this is going to be excited to hear from all of them. I wish we could do a whole show with each of them. That's true. But we're going to have to do a quick hitters and run through. Instead of doing a whole show with each one, we've got to do a segment. With two at a time.
Starting point is 00:04:07 We'll bring on two at a time every 15 minutes, do a segment. Tyler Euglis is going to join us first here in a little bit. So this is really our only segment we can talk about anything else. Yeah, what do you want to talk about? Let's get it out of the way. Let's talk about all the sports that are going on today. Let's see, baseball? No baseball.
Starting point is 00:04:22 NBA. Baseball was last night. NFL. This is why we picked the perfect day to have these guests. Shannon, this is it. This is one of two days of the year. There are no professional sports going on today. Well, luckily, like you said, you have the entire team there of Lafamilia to fill the void.
Starting point is 00:04:35 But yeah, not many days that happen with no sports. Today is one of them. So I'm excited. I wish I could be there with you guys. I want to hear both a lot of memories from those guys from UK, but they've also seen the current team. And maybe they can spill a little scouting reports. I mean, they know ball over there as well as anyone. So it'd be nice to hear from former players about the current guys if they're willing to open up a little bit.
Starting point is 00:04:55 They just practiced against them with them yesterday. So, yeah, we can get our first inside report, maybe from some of these guys today on Mark Pope's team. And I was excited. I haven't seen Willie in a long time, huge Willie fan. And I was like, hey, can you maybe like have a Bahamas story ready? I'm like, man, these fans for 10 years, they've been asking me Bahamas stories and I've kept my lip sealed. It's not my place to tell him, but we're finally here together. Can you do one?
Starting point is 00:05:20 And he went, well, let's just tell them all. So I have to tap into Atlanta's, too. My goodness. So just to kind of recap some other stories that we talked about yesterday that we won't be able to get to the rest of the show, our girl, Indris, Andrus, Ingrid Andrus. There you go. Shannon?
Starting point is 00:05:39 Yeah. You believe her story. No, I don't. So she came out and said that she was drunk. Yes. And maybe she had something to drink before, but I don't think that the alcohol was the problem. I think she has a singing problem more than a drinking problem based on what we heard from the National Anthem. So I'm not buying it.
Starting point is 00:05:55 I think that that was a poor excuse. And you know you've got to go out there and sing the national anthem. Why would you get drunk before you did that? Yes, she released a statement. Of course, after she heard us on the show talking about it, I'm sure. Definitely listening. I'm not going to BS y'all. I was drunk last night.
Starting point is 00:06:11 I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans and this country. I love so much for that rendition. I'll let y'all know how rehab is. I hear it's super fun. See, that tells me right there she's not sincere about it when she puts, oh, I hear it's super fun. If she was actually dealing with a serious problem, she wouldn't put it's fun on there.
Starting point is 00:06:34 You don't joke about it. I know it's sarcasm, yes. I know it's sarcasm, but you don't joke about something like that. No, you don't joke about it. So people probably, including myself, didn't know who she was before she sang that national. Now everybody's talking about her, and I think this statement, Drew, kind of is going to just keep it going. And then I was tuned in last night for Cody Johnson. He had to sing the national anthem.
Starting point is 00:06:53 I'd never heard of Cody Johnson until last night. But of course I'm tuning in. He's got to follow the performance from the night before. And he did a much better job. But I kept thinking, he had to be thinking, she put so much pressure on me that I didn't have before because the whole country was talking about our national anthem yesterday. And he had to go do round two before the game.
Starting point is 00:07:09 But he did a good job. He kept it simple. You know, he wasn't trying to do all the extra stuff. He stayed right in the lane and got it done and did a good job. And then, of course, the All-Star game last night. Well, that's enough talk about that. Let's go on the next topic. I lost money on it.
Starting point is 00:07:23 I bet on the National League. You did? I watched the first couple pitches because there were prop bets if Paul Skeens would hit 100 on his first pitch. And he hit 98 on the Draft King. So, Shannon, do you watch any of it? Watched a little bit of it. But, I mean, the American League just dominates this. I think they're like 28 and 7, and then there's the one year they tied since, like, the 80s.
Starting point is 00:07:45 So, yeah, it's almost to the point to where you know what's going to happen before you watch it. So our parlay didn't hit? Did we put that together? Didn't? We didn't. We didn't get it put together. You can't put some of those props and the game together. I'll have a golf parlay I'll post later.
Starting point is 00:07:59 I won't waste our time now with it with this big day, but I'm still trying. We got the British Open this week. So you'll have a draft king. Yeah, it'll be one of the ones that are on the app. I sent it to them just this morning. So I haven't gotten feedback yet, but they should throw that on the app. So just check out. It's a top 30 parlay.
Starting point is 00:08:13 I'll just tell you, it's John Rom. I feel like he's going to be back. I went all foreigners. You know, the road across the pond. Yes. Lubeig Oberg. He's awesome. All right.
Starting point is 00:08:22 And then who's the other one in it? Victor Hobble. There you go. Those three. Top 30. Hoblin is one of the guys that played well here at Valhalla, right? Yeah. Well, outside of ROM, Rom's year has been quite on the live.
Starting point is 00:08:33 But yeah, the other two, they've had great years. Yeah. All right. So there you go. There's your draft King's Parlay coming up here. Yeah, draft Key Sportsbook. Crown is yours. Romo COSR.
Starting point is 00:08:41 You know, there's only two days a year. They don't have sports. That's right. The other, just real quick on the topic, we talked about Donald Trump's new running made is J.D. Vance. He's going to be speaking. tonight at the Republican Convention to accept his nomination. We mentioned how he was on this show.
Starting point is 00:08:56 I had forgotten till Matt, of all people, Matt sent us a text message yesterday. That was my first Matt text of the summer outside of a happy birthday. Was it? We'd be given each other space. Yes? Yeah, I've just let him enjoy his vacation. I think I've only got like a couple text messages. But he texted from Spain.
Starting point is 00:09:12 Hey, don't forget, the new running mate challenged Ryan to a foot race when he was on the radio show. I'd forgotten that. Completely forgot that he'd challenged me to a foot race. you and your unintentional interactions with politicians are unbelievable and not just like local politicians multiple presidents you now have a vice president candidate who has challenged you to a foot raise yes that you're own remote that he would lose do you even remember how that came up no i have no idea was jd vans on ambian that day because you know matt jones was
Starting point is 00:09:40 challenging everybody to a foot race the day he was on it it must have been during that time we would have billy was going to race ryan timmons and you know i had to race of 60 at Knox Central High School. I'd have got timed into 60. Maybe it was during all that time that J.D. Vance challenged me to do. But hey, but if he's still wanting to bring it on, he's doing a tour stop here. Let's do it. And Matt, I think he's going to find himself in the news again unintentionally.
Starting point is 00:10:04 He's kind of got that Forrest Gump syndrome where he just always finds himself in situations. But I've seen some places are digging up J.D. Vance on the Matt Jones podcast. For eight years ago and using some of that. So I think an old Matt Jones podcast episode is going to find its way. in the presidential race. Oh, it definitely has already kind of raised its head a little bit. He's over there. Where is he now?
Starting point is 00:10:23 I don't even know. He's in Spain and still in Spain. Just enjoying vacation, minding his own business. And over here, it looks like that might be picking up some steam. So we're here at KS. Bar and Grill, meet and greet for the TBT Law Familia team. If you come on out, you know, we're going to be here for the next couple hours. Guys will rotate on the show on and off the show.
Starting point is 00:10:41 So I think it should be a lot of fun. So we're going to take a break early and get Tyler U.S. on. But before we go, I got to tell you about Stock to Mortgage. Stock to Mortgage, you know, it's a great time to buy. You know, spring buying season, summer buying season. It's always a good time to buy. But you've got to get pre-approved by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:10:53 They're located all across the states. There's probably one close to you. They're in many states. They're growing, Drew. They continue to grow. They're also looking for more loan officers. If you're interested, you can go to apply. Go to Stockton.com.
Starting point is 00:11:04 If you want to get started on your loan or refinance, there's a button right there, hit that button, and you'll work with the same loan officer throughout the process. Stockton.com, M&LS, NMLS, A2-55-E, Equal Housing Lender. The Victory Cigar just walked in. Sam Malone. There he is. All the start journey. I think I saw baby Sam Malone running around here too.
Starting point is 00:11:21 That's crazy. Most of these guys are now dads. It's kind of crazy. All right. We'll start it off with Tyler Lewis. We come back here on Kentucky Sports Radio live from KS Bar and Grill. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
Starting point is 00:11:34 This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. And nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies,
Starting point is 00:11:47 and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls,
Starting point is 00:12:04 we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice. On the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.

Starting point is 00:12:39 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:12:53 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:13:08 I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose. my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the hard way and listen now. Life throws hurdles big and small.
Starting point is 00:13:26 The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WMBA standout, Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see what. girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
Starting point is 00:13:50 It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel like you don't feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything.
Starting point is 00:14:17 Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio live from KS Bar and Grill. We're our meet and greet with the TBT Law Familiar team. Ryan Lim and Drew Franklin here at KS Bar and Grill. Come on out.
Starting point is 00:14:46 We've got a good crowd already. We're joined Drew by the head coach of the Law Familiar TVT team. Let's give it up for Tyler Ulyss in the house. By the way, Tyler Drew is doing this interview live on his Instagram. T. Ulus 3. Go tune in and see Tyler live on there. Maybe hit him a follow too. Yeah, so Tyler just tell us how is the team looking so far.
Starting point is 00:15:06 I don't think it's shaping out so far. You know, we're looking good. We've only had two days of practice. But guys are coming in, giving the effort, showing that they want to be here and, you know, giving it their all. You're a busy man these days, but you're taking on this coaching role this summer. When did you kind of decide to do that?
Starting point is 00:15:22 What made you think that would be a fun role to do with all these guys you're familiar with? Twyney actually approached me like kind of during March Madness, and we talked about it and I agreed to it. I actually almost pulled out because of everything that was going on, but we ended up making it work, and, you know, I'm glad to be here, glad to be back, you know, before I make my, you know, next venture. Well, you've got to, you know, all these guys in your team are all familiar to all of us. some of them are you know starting to get a little gray hair in their beard
Starting point is 00:15:49 I got a few months so but welcome are they still are they still ballers they still play quite a bit most of them do definitely you know they're pros so you know they've gotten better since they've left here played at the highest level whether it's the NBA or overseas somewhere some guys now still playing at the highest level and trying to get back to the NBA so you know these guys are prepared they're working hard and you know I can't wait to see so Sean Woods is on your staff has you been a big help there was a video that came out just behind the scenes and both of you very intense coaching i mean we're taking
Starting point is 00:16:20 this tournament very seriously of course you know Sean was this guy that i actually asked to be on the staff because of you know his expertise um he's a guy that i see every day in our practices he respects me i respect him uh so he's been a big help for me um you know i'm only 28 years old so you know this is my first experience and you know everyone's helping and pitching in you made the decision to get into coaching spent the last couple years on the UK bench here what's the your biggest takeaway that your first two years are sitting on the bench of college basketball? It's, you know, a lot more nerves on the coaching side. Really?
Starting point is 00:16:52 You know, you can't do it yourself. And, you know, the hours these guys put in, you know, watching Coach Cow, Chin, Bruiser, and all these guys, the amount of film they watched, the amount of meetings we have, the amount of things we do to try to, you know, get these kids prepared, whether it's on or off the court, the things we deal with, you know, it's just a lot, you know, a lot of hours, but it's a lot of fun. I feel like I reap the benefits when I got to see those guys play in Vegas. I just left Vegas all read play up close Antonio, Rob, I'm Oscar, Justin.
Starting point is 00:17:21 So, you know, it was great to see all those guys. I had another question for you, but if you're in Vegas, let's hear this Reed Shepherd buzz that's going on. I mean, you got John Morant, Tray Young tweet about him, some of the national pundits calling him one of the best Summer League debuts in years. Was it just fun seeing that around? A guy you knew here real well in Lexington and coached? I mean, I haven't really seen all the hype about it,
Starting point is 00:17:40 but like I said, I was courtside and watched them play. So, you know, I mean, I'm not surprised. I've been the biggest Reeve fan since he got on campus, you know, and I'm really proud of him. Really proud of what he's doing, and I can't wait to see, you know, what he does from here on. And what about Rob? I mean, what a destination to be the eighth pick,
Starting point is 00:17:57 but you get to go to a contender and play with guys like Anthony Edwards and Carl Towns, who you know well. I'm sure you're excited for him too. For sure, you know, Rob, I feel like that's the best place he could have landed. That was really big for me where he landed because, you know, how he plays. And in the NBA, when you go on teams who aren't that good, like, we lost. I went a month when I went in the game.
Starting point is 00:18:19 So, you know, when you're on teams like that, you know, you kind of get lost in the shuffle. And, you know, Rob being on that team, being under Mike Conley, Anthony Edwards, the confidence he has, the confidence Rob carries himself. I think it'll be really good for him. While we're talking about those guys, why was Antonio Reeves kind of undervalued in the eyes of the NBA? I mean, he ended up being one of the most efficient shooters we've ever had at this place. the team in scoring last year, why was he still kind of undervalued and not a higher draft pick or thought of highly, more highly? Honestly, I'm not sure.
Starting point is 00:18:51 The NBA is just, you know, they have their ways. Antonio, but he's a little older, what, 22, 23 years old. But he's a 6-5 guard who shoots the lights out. I always said Antonio woke up with 20 points easily. No kidding. But I think he'll have a long career because of how well he shoots the ball, his size, he can defend. And I think just once he gets in those locker rooms and gets around these NBA teams, he'll stick. You got a great head start on your coaching career.
Starting point is 00:19:18 Very young, bright future ahead. But was it a little surreal when you're sitting on the Rupp Arena bench in a coaching uniform? Having not been too far removed from the playing career, was it kind of like, oh, wow, this is a completely different setting here. It was definitely completely different. It happened fast, but, you know, I didn't want to sit back and wait and, you know, kind of moping what I was going through. And, you know, it helped me out a lot. Coach Cowell asked me to come out here. and, you know, give me around these kids,
Starting point is 00:19:41 give me back around the game, was really big for me, and, you know, helped me out a lot. Interviewing all those players last year and the year before, they all, especially the guards, we talked about how helpful it was having you, because, you know, Cal's just a little older. You're someone they could relate to, and then, of course, you played the game
Starting point is 00:19:55 and were outstanding Kentucky, so that was just a big influence. But at any point, did you think, I just want to push these kids out of the way and take over practice and get the ball running myself? No, not really. I understand, you know, it's their time. A lot of those guys looked up to me,
Starting point is 00:20:07 so, you know, I really looked forward to, to helping them at the next level. It wasn't so much of, you know, just what we were doing here. Obviously, we're trying to win games, but these guys, their dream is to be NBA players. They want to, you know, get in and out of college as quick as possible. So, you know, my thing was preparing them for that in the future because, you know, they want to leave, but once you get up there, it's a business. This is what's fun.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Try to enjoy Kentucky as much as you can because when you get to that next level is, you know, all business, no fun of games. You know, throughout life, a lot of things. of us have to go through life-changing events. You had something very, you know, tragic happened to you with the accident. How did you get through that and what did you learn from going through all that? How I got through it, it was once, like I said, you know, Coach Cal invited me out here. You know, first I was at my grandparents, you know, my family took great care of me.
Starting point is 00:20:57 You know, a girl I was dating at the time took care of me. And, you know, I just got through it. You know, you can't, you know, mope on things like that. You know, things happen in life. I'm still blessed. You know, I had the opportunity to coach Kentucky basketball. Only student assistant probably in the country was doing what I was doing. So you know you've got to kind of look at it like that and just keep pushing.
Starting point is 00:21:15 You played on some great teams with a lot of great players. Some of them are here. But you and Devin Booker seemed like best friends. Maybe you still are today. I'm sure that relation is still intact. Maybe Jamal. Are you staying in touch with all those guys? Yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:21:27 I talk to them guys often. I actually just left Phoenix not too long ago. Hopefully our guys will be suited up in some deep books soon. There you go. But yeah, those are my guys. You know, I'm proud of them. You know, Jamar is a champ now. Devin would have got his.
Starting point is 00:21:41 You know, and I'm room for those guys. We still keep in touch, still hang out. We're just, you know, busy with our schedules. You got to be teammates there for a little bit in Phoenix. What was that like going from UK to Phoenix with Devin? It was crazy. You kind of committed to a little together too. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:21:53 You know, we were blessed to be in a situation like that. So, you know, when things happen, you can't, you know, act like the world's going to end. You know, me and Devin wanted to play with each other in high school. You know, we got to play each other in college. And him leaving and go to NBA and me getting drafted, you know, to that same team was, You know, a dream come true for us. It was short-lasting, but, you know, it was fun while it did. Still happened.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Still happened. The 2015 team, obviously one of the greatest teams of our generation. How often do you think about that, you know, how often you think about that Wisconsin game? Like, is that just one of those things that just. He said the W-W. I thought we weren't doing the W-W. I don't think about it often, but. Yeah, boo that man.
Starting point is 00:22:33 For some reason, I've ran into a lot of, like, Uber drivers that were Wisconsin. fan. No way. Wisconsin hat on, Wisconsin hoodie. No seriously in the Midwest, like all the time. But I try not to think about that. You know, it's tough. You know, we wish we could have that one back, but, you know, hopefully one day I could get another one. Hopefully you get another Uber and get out of that car immediately. Let's think some positive memories looking back. I mean, you have one of the most iconic photos in history at Louisville with the blood running down your face. What went into that? I don't remember what was it like an elbow? What even happened? Yeah, well, went into it. It was an elbow to the face.
Starting point is 00:23:10 You know, Chris Jones was sweeping through elbowed me in the face. I actually didn't know I was bleeding until someone told me. But, you know, I feel like even though we lost it at Wisconsin game, like that whole season was great memories. We went 38-0. You know, we went 31-0 in the regular season. And, you know, obviously, you feel short. But, you know, I don't think any way else would do that again.
Starting point is 00:23:31 You know, so that was amazing for us. It was probably my best basketball experience. And defense is a player of the year in the SEC? I mean, come on. I mean, your size, I'm sure a lot of people didn't think defensive play a year might be in the cards, but of course you shocked everybody with how good you were. But that award especially really stood out to Kentucky fans. What made you embrace defense so much when you were just so good at everything else, too?
Starting point is 00:23:51 You know, that's actually my favorite award because personally I feel like my defense is my biggest, you know, asset when I play. But just how I grew up, I grew up in Lima, Ohio, you know, also in Chicago, Illinois. And, you know, we grew up around, you know, rough kids who are, you know, coming at me every day, you know, trying to prove that they're better to me and things like that. So, you know, we always competed, always wanted, you know, guys to win. You know, I have my cousin here, Shandale Warden, who's coaching with me. His brother, Travis Wharton, was a defense player at the year at Michigan State.
Starting point is 00:24:22 And, you know, we all kind of grew up under him. And, you know, that's kind of the standard he set and, you know, how we follow up. I was in Lime on Sunday. Where's the statue? I was looking around for it. Is there any Tyler Ulus, anything there? We got to get something up. No, I don't have any statues.
Starting point is 00:24:35 I moved to Chicago, so, you know, I don't know. Hopefully one day, you know. Xavier Simpson is the guy in the city right now. Gotcha. You know, they talk about you guys when you play. It's just kind of a blur. It goes by so fast. After you finally left here after two years,
Starting point is 00:24:48 were you able to kind of soak in some of the moments or kind of the experience that you just had here at Kentucky? Oh, for sure. You know, personally, you know, I always came back. So, you know, I always had guys, Isaiah Briscoe, you know, Hamie Diallo, who were here. So I would come back every year and kind of, you know, always get that Kentucky feel.
Starting point is 00:25:05 Briscoe, he's in the big three now. You've been watching any of that. He had quite a game last weekend. We're not going to talk about Briscoe. He's supposed to be here with me right now. But, yeah, he's in the big three doing this thing. You know, that's my guy, one of my closest friend as well. You know, so shout out to him.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Does he still have that bodega in New Jersey? I tried to go to it on my bachelor party. We couldn't find it. I think he got rid of the bodega. I was trying to find that. Big Briscoe fan. But let's look forward to Friday. First game's coming up 8 o'clock Rupp Arena.
Starting point is 00:25:32 You've got some set plays. You're going to let these guys just run free. You don't have to give away all the secrets. I know the 305 ballers are listening, but what kind of system we're running? I'm letting these guys play, you know, nothing different kind of from, you know, Cal, how Cal plays. You know, we got pros, so, you know, you're not trying to run a flex offense or anything like that. Let these guys play.
Starting point is 00:25:50 And, you know, when you see something you need to, you know, bring things together, maybe run a set. But for the most part, running gun, you know, lockdown defensively and win some games. I've got to butt in. I got our text of the day already. Oh, we've got our. Someone chimes in of Vince Mero. Do you know Vince Mero?
Starting point is 00:26:08 Yeah. He says Lama, Ohio. Tyler is a dog. There might have been another word in there, but he said, Vince Mero says, Tyler's a dog from Lama, Ohio. That is our Kentucky-Branded tweet of the day right there for Vince Meroon. All that toughness. He always talks about, you know, the toughness of kids in Ohio and you had it.
Starting point is 00:26:25 For sure, exactly. That's how we grew up, you know. Even if you watch the guy, like I said, Xavier Simpson, who's our kind of player right now for the city. He's tough. He played really good. defense probably a defense player the year at Michigan and things like that so that's kind of what we you know hold on in our city well best of luck to you thanks for spending some time with us again Friday night 8 o'clock first game rup arena the tyler eulis coached law familiar team so let's give it up
Starting point is 00:26:49 for tyler great job man appreciate it all right that's our first first sit down first of many coming up next i think the harrison twins are sitting in the hot seat next oh wow to have back together for the first time in a while here back in lexington i'll say this is overwhelming like You interview you listen, you know, like, that was cool. Starting point is 00:28:42 And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness. Professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps
Starting point is 00:29:34 them going from the WMBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke.
Starting point is 00:29:54 The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me, and that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:30:23 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back. Kentucky Sports Radio here live at KS. Bar and Grill. We have a full house here for the TBT meet and greet with the law familiar team, Drew, sitting by Kentucky Royalty right now.
Starting point is 00:30:50 The Harrison twins have joined us. Aaron and Andrew Harrison, give it up for them. A legendary backport. Aaron, and you know, you were just on with Drew a couple weeks ago. back here at the restaurant. How has it been with the team so far getting to finally get on the floor and practice a little bit? It's been great.
Starting point is 00:31:06 I mean, all the guys, we all focused and excited and locked in. So it's been good, seeing everybody, just being back in Lex. So it's been great. Andrew, you all played with Tyler as teammates, but now he's the head coach. What's it like looking over
Starting point is 00:31:20 and he's got the whistle and the clipboard and you're out there playing in the Joe Crafts Center? Oh, man, that's fun, man. He can't play right now, so him being able to coach and use his basketball mind and stuff. So it's all exciting, being able to be around everybody at the same time. It's so fun.
Starting point is 00:31:36 Got a lot of, like, good energy being here. So I'm happy, definitely, excited to be here. So where are you guys playing now? Like, what is your playing status right now? Last year I played in Greece. I played in Greece and Turkey. Just been playing overseas. Going into my 10th year as a professional.
Starting point is 00:31:52 So it's been a long journey up and down, but, I mean, I enjoy it. Greece, not a bad place to live, I hear. Lovely place. Lovely place to live. Yeah, and I finished up in Portugal last year. It's pretty nice. You know, pretty much the same. Just the past six, seven years been overseas.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Everywhere, been from Middle East to Asia to, you know. So. You get to see the world, man. Yeah, yeah, definitely, definitely. I feel like I've seen places I would have never even heard of before, so for sure. When you all were at Kentucky, I got to say there's something that really annoyed me, and it still annoys me to this day. Every time you all would do an interview,
Starting point is 00:32:33 someone would say, what's it like playing with your brother? And we'd all roll our eyes, like they've answered this question, 2,000 times. I'm sure you're already getting it this week as you're pairing back together. So I'm going to ask it a little differently. It's been a long time since you've been teammates. Andrew, what have you missed about playing with Aaron all these years before you team back up?
Starting point is 00:32:52 I mean, it's just being able to have your best friend playing with you, basically. That's the only thing. I'm kind of used to not playing with him now. Yeah. So, but I'm just being able to play with Aaron. It's fun, man. One of the main reasons I decided to, or we decided to be able to come back and do this.
Starting point is 00:33:09 So she was being able to play with Aaron, also the other guys as well. When was the last time you guys actually played on the court together? Was it here at Kentucky, or have you played together since on the court in a competitive game? Yeah. Yeah, competitively, yeah, for sure. Back here.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Right here. The W game that Drew won't let me mention anymore. After your careers went separate ways, did you ever think there would be a day you'd get to pair up again? And I can't imagine you think it would happen in Rupp Arena. Yeah, no, definitely not that Rupp. Overseas, we've kind of like planned it, tried to finish our career maybe on the same team. But not definitely not in our wildest dreams thing. We'll be back in Rupp being able to play in front of the fans, Big Blue Mages and stuff.
Starting point is 00:33:50 So it's cool, man. It's cool. They do the Elam ending in the tournaments. It's like you've got to hit the last shot. I mean, you're giving it to Aaron, right? I mean, is there any question? Is there any doubt if you need a game winner? Have you seen so many of them?
Starting point is 00:34:04 Does he still have it in him? Hopefully it doesn't get to that point. Hopefully it doesn't get to that point, but definitely I'm just just give it to him. Well, I love the story you guys told after the, maybe it was the Michigan game or one of the shots. You're in the corner screaming at him to shoot it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Like he wasn't going to pull the trigger, and the audio, they catch you. He was like, shoot, shoot, shoot. You had to encourage him to shoot it. No, I mean, I've been in no situations with him for a long time. So, I mean, I'm comfortable because I know he's comfortable. I know he's confident in those situations. So everyone around thinks he's going to make it.
Starting point is 00:34:40 So if he did, you know what I mean? So it's a fun little opportunity. It's such an adrenaline rush, that little moment that you have. I guess I've never asked you. Did you hear him hollering at you that before you pulled the trigger on that one? Yeah, I probably did. I heard him. I mean, I think I think he was saying go.
Starting point is 00:34:57 Go, go. Yeah. So, yeah, I definitely heard him. Now, you guys, when you were here, it almost felt like you got underappreciated when you were here. You guys are the most successful backcourt in the history of this school when it comes to postseason. You went to a championship game when you were freshmen, and you went 38 and 0 when you
Starting point is 00:35:17 were a sophomore. Yet I felt like you two guys didn't get the appreciation you deserve from the fan base. What did it feel like for you guys when you were going through that? I don't necessarily agree with that. The fan base was, I mean, I think it was okay, supportive to us. I mean, we had our ups and downs, but I wouldn't say that I don't feel underappreciated. After even nine years being away, coming back here, I don't feel underappreciated. When you all made that decision to come back after your freshman year,
Starting point is 00:35:52 that might be the biggest reaction for a player decision of all time. to keep calm, the twins are coming banner. I just tweeted that out. This city, this state was on fire. We did a radio show. We weren't even supposed to be on the air. We just stayed on the air for two more hours to talk about you all coming back for your sophomore year.
Starting point is 00:36:08 What about that reaction? I mean, it was a big deal to make that decision, but did you think the fan base would go as crazy as they did when you all decided to run it back for a second season? No, that was super exciting, man. That was amazing. That's like one of the moments in your life you never forget. So I definitely remember my phone going crazy, crazy, crazy.
Starting point is 00:36:24 And everyone was so excited. So it made me feel like I made the right choice at that moment. When you have an undefeated regular season, everyone focuses on that. But the year before, it was the heck of a story after the South Carolina game. You went on that big tournament run. When Aaron said that in that South Carolina press conference, were you all in belief that did you know that March Madness run was coming or did his comments kind of kick it into the gear when he kind of made that promise and then followed through?
Starting point is 00:36:49 To be 100% honest, I don't remember how I felt. but I feel like we all thought we were a good team. I know we all believed in ourselves individually. We just had to put it together. I think coach made a couple of changes. And, I mean, change the season around. Not the perfect time, but the only time we had. So it was interesting, but the way we ended the season, that was amazing.
Starting point is 00:37:15 It was cool. Sure was. And there were tweaks, not changes. We all obsessed over the tweak. Coach Cowd kind of implied that maybe one of the reasons, reasons he wasn't going to leave was because you guys were coming back. Did you kind of feel that that like he wanted to be loyal to you because you guys were being loyal to the program? I don't think coach's decision had.
Starting point is 00:37:38 I mean, I don't really know anything about a coach's decision. He made that decision. I mean, he made the best decision for him, so I don't know anything about that. There's your assistant coach walking in. Sean Woods. Looking forward to this law familiar team. You've already played with a lot of the guys on the team, but some of the others you just missed by a few years.
Starting point is 00:37:57 Having fun playing with like Daniel Orden and John Hood over there. More recent guys, Kellan Grady, Nate Sistina, meeting former Wildcats and team-in-law. You know, Hoodie played on the team with us. Excuse me, Hooty did, but, yeah, others back there. For sure. But, no, being around the other guys are cool. I mean, you might have played against them professionally
Starting point is 00:38:12 or you see them in the summertime, something like that. So, I mean, I met all the guy. I played against Nate and Turkey. Oh, did you really? Yeah. So small basketball world, we still see. each other, still try to keep up with each other on social media. That's interesting, the connection you're in Turkey, and you didn't play with Nate Sistina,
Starting point is 00:38:30 but you still, that Kentucky connection, you all still have that gone on. As soon as I seen his dad, he, you know, so it was a, you know, conjection is a worldwide kind of, so that was pretty cool to see him. Well, before we let you guys go, you practiced against the Mark Pope's current team. What was your takeaway yesterday from the practice against those guys? It was pretty good. I mean, it was competitive. It was exciting on both ends.
Starting point is 00:38:56 I was excited for our team and for the current team. So it was exciting. The fans have a lot to be excited about, for sure. You got any takeaways? Got good size. Definitely have the energy. Great, have great energy. Just in the building, have great energy.
Starting point is 00:39:17 Starting with the staff, the players, everyone wants to learn. No one back down. Everyone was, you know. So we got some work to do by the same time. We have a pretty good team. Yeah. I'm excited for them. I hope the coach does well for sure.
Starting point is 00:39:31 It's kind of good to get this, you know, you guys got to really get to see them first hands. You know, what do you think? You know, how are they playing? You know, what do you like? Yeah. You know, what is your favorite thing about this team, Aaron? I think that experience.
Starting point is 00:39:42 I think that we've, I mean, that would be good for it. That's a change for our program, really, a little experience. So I'm excited to see. see how that experience translate to, you know, the SEC and how it's changed over the years and how we've changed, how the program has changed. Well, guys, we appreciate it. You've got anything else? No, that's good, unless you want to just keep the Harris and tear out.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Like I say, we talk to him for an hour. That's the thing. We're going to rotate these guys in. We can talk. I get one to budding. I asked Aaron his favorite buzzer beater two weeks ago of his three shots. And your Notre Dame game was pretty crazy in itself. It didn't have any buzzer beaters, but you put it on Notre Dame pretty good.
Starting point is 00:40:22 But did you have a favorite of his three of Michigan, Louisville, Wisconsin in that run? I think you even said Michigan might have been your favorite. Threw me off there. Did you have a favorite of his three-point shots? A favorite? All of them. All three? I was so excited about all of them.
Starting point is 00:40:41 I don't know. Hey, all three are my favorite too. Maybe against Louisville, I like the first one or against Wisconsin the last one. Which one, Aaron kind of defied gravity. It kind of like was a little, had a little fade to it like a golf shot and just dropped right in. That was, uh, Michigan, really. Is it Michigan? Michigan.
Starting point is 00:40:58 Well, listen, guys, thank you for sitting in with us. Great to have you back in Lexington. Can't wait to see you on the floor again at Ruppert. It's going to be kind of cool. See the Harris and Twins back at Rufferin. You guys play Friday night at 8 o'clock. All right, we appreciate it, guys. Thank you for having us.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Thank you. Thanks, guys. We'll take our break. Come back. We'll get two more guys on here on Kentucky Sports Radio. Don't go away. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.

Professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going from the WMBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't
Starting point is 00:43:38 feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything.
Starting point is 00:44:01 Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. All right. Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio live at KS. Barn Grill. On the La Famillion Meet and Greet here, we've got a great crowd. I'm going to talk to all the guys that are here.
Starting point is 00:44:27 We just finished with Andrew and Aaron Harrison, Drew. Now sending besides, let's give it up for Willie Colley Stein and James Young. I'm going to pinch myself again as we sit here between all these legends. James is the first time we got to visit me. I was telling you during the commercial break, you were one of the first guys that came to sit with us in the studio after you left Kentucky. You kind of started the tradition. You may have been the first one. that came to our studio down the road here on Nicholasville Road,
Starting point is 00:44:51 sat in with us and talked to us as you get ready to go on your pro career. Yeah, like I said, it's an honor. And me being one of the first guys, I'm glad that everybody else could do it every year after that. Yeah, they started. I think after you did it, then we started getting the guys coming on after that. Both of you guys have been busy with your pro careers, so you haven't been able to pop in as often during the season.
Starting point is 00:45:10 But just start with you, James, just being back in the facility and in Lexington, I know you haven't had to be able to do it a lot. How's it feel? It feels amazing. A lot has changed since. I've been here and I'm glad they upgraded a lot of things. The guys are having a good time and I'm glad to be back on campus and just being with everybody. Yeah, same.
Starting point is 00:45:29 I mean, the energy is crazy. Obviously, like us going overseas and kind of just the way everything's played out, you don't get this. You don't get this. This is a one-stop shop, you know what I mean? Like, you don't get this love. that's one of the things I tell you know the new guys is like when you leave here it all changes you're now you're no longer Willie Colley Stein of Kentucky basketball you're just Willie Colley Stein and it's just that energy is crazy the love that you feel when as soon as you step
Starting point is 00:46:04 off the plane is it's on match I mean this is a Wednesday morning and look at all these people I know you had events last night you've had events all week meeting fans all week now that James told me during the break too you guys actually played together this past season. How did you end up on the same team? Don't tell us about it? Blessed, you know, blessed because it was, you know, over there, it was my first time. So he's, you know, he's a veteran over there. But for me, it was a culture shock.
Starting point is 00:46:30 It was different. I brought my, you know, my wife and kids out there. And so when he ended up joining our team, like I knew he was in our league, AP was in our league, and Kyle Wilter was in our league. Really? Yeah. This is in Italy? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:43 So we were all in the same league playing against each other. And I'm like, oh, this is lit. And then so he was playing with Treviso. Yeah, but something, you know, whatever happened there. And then he ends up coming to us. Well, he texted me. He was like, hey, bro, what's going on over there? Well, our three man broke his hand.
Starting point is 00:47:01 And I was like, bro, our three man just broke his hand. Like, tell your agent, let's get on it. Two days later, he's popping up in the city. I'm like, oh, it actually got up. Let's go. I was hype. I love hearing that connection. It was a great thing for me.
Starting point is 00:47:13 I like because I didn't really know too many. people out there. So Willie was like, yo, we need you come. I'm like, yeah, I'm pulling up for sure. Like, I'm not trying to leave Italy yet. And it was a good opportunity. So it was all fun. It is kind of weird you guys spread out all across the world playing and yet you guys not only end up in the same country, you end up
Starting point is 00:47:29 on the same team. That's pretty cool. Yeah, it was dope. And I hadn't seen him for like two years. Yeah, years. Definitely ain't played ball with him for a long time. Well, since he left. So it was cool. It was cool. It was cool to just be around him every day and get better. You guys were part of some of my favorite. You came
Starting point is 00:47:45 So we got to look backwards a little bit. I'll start with you, James. The game didn't go well. But what was up with that dunk against Yukon? I think you dunked on the entire team. What got into you? Were you just mad at the scoreboard and wanted to take it out on them? I was just zoned in.
Starting point is 00:47:57 I don't know what it was. I still think about it. Like, I just saw the rim. I didn't see nothing else. And then someone I was just dunk. So it happened to be a lot of people around me. So it was a historic dunk. I can't see much about it.
Starting point is 00:48:10 Like it was with my best memories. I think, because you can only have five players on the court. I think other Yukon players came off the bench to get dunked on. There were so many under you when you dunked on them in that game. Just wish the outcome had been different. And Willie, I mean, you've got a few that people remember well.
Starting point is 00:48:23 My personal favorite is Rock Oliver doing this in Florida. But the Cincinnati, I think that guy still hasn't played basketball since. Do you have a favorite of one of your Willie Colley Stine dunks at Kentucky? There's a lot of them, man. I mean, obviously the Florida one was tough. Honestly, the LSU game. I had like three dunks on Jordan. And he was supposed to be like the best shot blocker in the SEC at the time.
Starting point is 00:48:50 I kind of took that personal. And 80 was at the game too. And it kind of started off a little rocky, but ended up having a crazy game and end up winning. 80 was there. And it was kind of like, I don't know, it was cool. But I think those ones, the other ones was like, don't get me wrong, legendary. I see him every year.
Starting point is 00:49:08 I mean, but then that LSU game where I had like three back to back, that was fun. And one that's been lost in a little time, lost a time. It's not a dunk, but when you threw it behind the back falling out of bounds and made it. I don't know if Kentucky fans remember that. But that is a shot, we need to make sure lives on forever from Rup Arena. I've seen videos of that everywhere I go, even overseas. It's like, it was this you? Like, banking behind the back shot.
Starting point is 00:49:32 I'm like, yeah, Cal was still kind of mad at me. And I was like, nothing I could do. Well, and the shot you hit to beat Wichita State. Yeah. Classic shots. I mean, I like big moments. So those shots went in. I can't say much about it.
Starting point is 00:49:46 Now, I don't know if you remember, I got to tell you. When you came to join us in studio 10 years ago, Matt asked you about that shot, and you said, to be honest, Cal called a play in the huddle. I kind of forgot to play. I just got the ball and just shot it. And it went in. Like I said, he was kind of mad, but it went in. Three points or three points.
Starting point is 00:50:04 Other than those, do you have any other fond memories really through in a couple of like LSU of things? We think of those big ones, but any things that might not stick with the fans as much? Nah, not really. I mean, every game was a blessing. to be a part of and just go out there and have fun with the guys. Most of my shots came from Drew and Aaron, so I can't really say I have a specific shot that I would really like with the dunk and the shots we just named off probably like the most memorable.
Starting point is 00:50:30 Willie, one year you all got to go to the Bahamas. That was pretty cool. I was there. A lot of our listeners have been asking me for a decade to tell stories, but my lips are sealed. Did you have, what was it like down there? What a lot of games? That was before the 38-1 season.
Starting point is 00:50:47 Yeah, that was the start. Did well there. The beach was fun. Did you have any fun stories from the Bahamas or anything? Yeah, I mean, I got a couple. No, it was great. That was the first time that I ever went to the Bahamas. And, you know, unfortunately, I was coming off that broken ankle.
Starting point is 00:51:05 But I was good enough to, like, work out and practice and be around the guys. But, like, I mean, it was vacation for me. Oh, yeah. I mean, that's when I really got to know you guys. pretty well when you know they had to go to practices and stuff and I'm chilling at the pool and having a good time just how unique was that though because they've been past trips and the rules changed the players had security you all were basically just like you said you were vacationing with kentucky fans what just kSr you're just by the pool next to whoever from eastern kentucky all the
Starting point is 00:51:35 boosters it was fun just people everywhere it was just it was like we all just took a group trip together and then there was an occasional basketball game i think my favorite part from there is um What's my man's name that used to right hand, right hand of cow. Might be better. We can even leave names out of it. It might be good. Well, he still owes me. Oh, yeah, yeah, the swimming under water.
Starting point is 00:51:57 Yeah, he still owes me. Oh, yeah. They have a lap pool. Willie bets everyone. He can swim end to end. Just not UK people. Other people over here, my friends have cash out betting on can Willie swim end to end, holding his breath.
Starting point is 00:52:10 No one believed he could do it. And he went slow as possible. I didn't think you'd make it to one side. But a lot of gambling in the Bahamas on could Willie hold his breath for about three minutes there? Yeah, I'll tell you this. I wasn't going to come up. I mean, like, I was like, there's enough people here. If I pass out, somebody's going to get me.
Starting point is 00:52:29 So he's going to find me. So I was there for the win. And I think, yeah, I think somebody made like a poster or like a little Photoshop image of me as an Aqua man. Yeah, I try they did. Guys, look, we appreciate it very. much. Best of luck to you. It's great to have you back in town. Let's give it up. Willie Colley Stein and James Young. We'll be right back.
