Starting point is 00:01:14 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. A rep. My mama want you to wave at her.

Starting point is 00:02:42 Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back. It is Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Mario here today for you. Phone lines will be open, although Shannon's got the buzzer ready, 859-2802-287. and guys, we're at County 119. Out of 120 counties, we are down to 119.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Our good friends east of us in Wolf County, Campton, is on the clock. I got something on the A-Vision Glass Tech Machine. He says, I'm originally from Wolf County. I have a couple facts for you. We have a dairy queen, but no McDonald's. Oh, interesting. That may be the only county in the world that has a dairy queen, and not having McDonald's.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Yeah, usually McDonald's is the first place to pop up. There are also only two stoplights in the whole county. I can kind of relate to the county I grew up in. I think there's just two stoplights in Pike County, Indiana. But here's some of the towns. I mentioned Campton, Hazel Green, Flat, Mary, Granny, and Bethany. Just pick a woman's name, and you can name a town after they in Wilb County. Granny's got a really good, like, greasy spoon restaurant.
Starting point is 00:03:59 there. Oh, I bet it does. So what do you got for, Drew? I was just looking up the Swift Silver Mine Festival. You know, every county has got their festival. Yes. This appears to be Wolf counties coming up on Labor Day. It's got all the hits. You know, your 5Ks, getting everybody gathered, little food. But that's their big thing. You know, we had court. We talked about Court Days, Mount Sterling. Every time we do a county, we got to talk about their festivals. But it's the Swift Silver Mine Festival in Campton. Parades, carnival rides, all kinds of fun. Okay, I'm going to piggyback that. The Swift, Silver, Silver, Mine Festival is built by the Silver Creek, the Swift Creek. Okay. Legend has it that the Mr. Swift, wherever his first name was, Johnny, well, called Jonathan. Jonathan Swift, buried a treasure near Swift Creek, and it has never been found. Do you go look? Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Yes, absolutely. So they have this festival where everybody goes to look for this. buried treasure somewhere, Shannon, on Swift Creek. I'm down for a treasure hunt, if you guys are. Let's go. We'll bring the shovel. Have we done a show in Wolf County? I don't think we have.
Starting point is 00:05:08 I was trying to think that. I've been to Red River Gorge, which is a big Wolf County, the Natural Bridge. Where's the Keith Whitley restaurant, that kind of museum? Was that in Whitley? Burned down. But wasn't that in Wolf County? I said Whitley again.
Starting point is 00:05:23 Wolf County. I did that yesterday. I'm digging. I'm digging. That's why we've got to have people calling. We throw these things out there. We need lots of help. Shannon, what do you got for us?
Starting point is 00:05:33 Well, we got Tyler Booth, who is from Wolf County, first of all, for notable people who are from there. For the program. Yes. I also want to bring up that Wolf County was formed by portions of Brethick County, Morgan County, Owsley County, and Powell County, and it was named after Nathaniel Wolf. And I know you like to give first names to things, Ryan, so I think we should call it Nathaniel Wolf County.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Nathaniel Wolf County. Makes sense to me. David Lipscomb University. That's right. Yeah. Booth was on one of our UK football pregame shows here at KS. Bar one time. Had a lot of fun hanging out with Tyler. I've been listening to him a little bit since then.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Shannon, he also got to open for Darius Rucker. That's what I hear. I was going to let you share that. I knew that was a big thing for you. How about that? So we'll play a little Tyler Booth for you. Wikipedia says Wolf County is the poorest county in the United States by medium, median household income.
Starting point is 00:06:23 Well, way to bring us down, Drew. I'm just giving you facts. You're just giving a fax, Ryan? Well, I mean, it's on Wikipedia. It might not be fact that someone could have typed that this morning, but I read it. Well, of course, the big thing about Wolf County is Natural Bridge. The Gorge, Natural Bridge, one of the best natural... I don't call a monument, natural phenomenons in our state.
Starting point is 00:06:47 You know, we've got Cumberland Falls and then probably Natural Bridge. It's probably maybe number one and number two. And it's awesome. Have you heard the story how natural bridge started? No, tell me by. Okay. I'm going to edge it. Tell me about it.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Take us to church. It used to be like a, just like on a mountainside. And it started out as a little bitty hole about the size of like a quarter. This is the bridge you're talking about. The bridge. And the wind that whips through there through the valley, you know, it's sandstone. So it kept just breaking it away, tearing it away, turning it away, and then it became big, where now it made this big natural bridge where you can walk on top of.
Starting point is 00:07:19 You've been out there? So no one built the bridge? No, God built the bridge. Natural bridge. Natural bridge, yes. Yeah. All started from a little hole and wind up. blowing through the hole.
Starting point is 00:07:29 You know, we went to arches in Utah, and I went, again, last year, big Utah guy. It reminds me of that, because all the arches were kind of built that way. Yeah, yeah. You should go. You should take your lady friend. You can hike up, natural bridge. They have a little trail you can go up. They also have like little chair lifts.
Starting point is 00:07:45 I did that. I did a chairlift. Yeah, the guy running it was a KSR listener. Was he? Yeah. He hooked me up. Oh, he did. Don't tell us, no.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Gotcha. But yeah, it's very fun. So we have anything else on Wolf County? No, but I just want to add, if you haven't been a natural bridge, it really is very cool. How high is this bridge? What are you talking about? Well, Google it. Yeah, we'll look it up.
Starting point is 00:08:06 I'm afraid of heights. Oh, well, well, it's a little. 65 feet high, 78 feet, 65 feet high. You have to go through fat man squeeze to get to the natural bridge. I thought that was Mammoth Cave. I think there's double fat man. They've got two fat man squeezes. What is going on with these names?
Starting point is 00:08:22 There's like different trails. You can choose your own adventure, too. We did like the medium one. You know, I'm an old man. I can't be climbing too much. But if you're able, I definitely go check it out. It is one of the best things Kentucky has. The easiest trail is probably less than a mile, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:08:36 Maybe that's what we did. Parking lot to the bridge. But it's really pretty once you get up there and it overlooks the gorge. Now, here's the crazy thing about the gorge. Every summer, somebody gets lost in the gorge, falls off the gorge. I mean, I don't understand how this happened, but it happens all the time. When I was there, there were some campers. They might have been having a little fun.
Starting point is 00:08:59 I mean, I don't know that's what happens, but I think a lot of people like to get out there and maybe participate in some things, and unfortunately, that can lead to some tragedies. How do you fall off the gorge? As I said, some people like to go out there and have a little too much fun, I think. Let me tell you something. That night I had in Vegas, if I were on the gorge, I would have fallen off at that night. I'm not saying everyone does that, and it's not everywhere,
Starting point is 00:09:20 but, you know, people camp out there and accidents can happen. Well, we want to hear from somebody from Wolf County now, 859-280-2-287. But that's our phone number. If you can call and kind of help us walk us through maybe some Wolf County facts. Got another one here on the A Vision Glass Text Machine. He said Wolf County is the speeding ticket capital of Kentucky. Speed Trap City is what he called it.
Starting point is 00:09:39 Any more stoplights slow people down. That's it. That's why people are speeding. They don't know to stop. That's it. Yep. I looked it up. I was thinking Miguel's pizza.
Starting point is 00:09:47 You know, it's another popular place out there. It's actually in Powell County. Very close. Man, the park is in half in Powell County, half in Wolf County. so but why does wolf county get to claim natural bridge when it is right down the road is mcgales and powell county gets migales it's how they drew the lines back in the day territory i don't know it's a kind of thing that you go to the natural bridge you have to go to mcgales yeah i think we were just talking a couple people here have been i mean yeah even if you're
Starting point is 00:10:15 not hungry if you're on the natural bridge you have it's like they're it's a double header you got to do both it's part of the experience keith whitley is from elliot county yeah look his uh his things it's sandy hook is sandy hook is where that restaurant was That's where they had the tornado, right? We went through Sandy Hook. Well, that's why we're doing this. We've got to educate everybody. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:10:35 And that leaves Woodford. Woodford County. Next Thursday, right? We agreed to do it. We have to do it on next Thursday. That's our next show here at the restaurant. Yeah, we kind of have things planned. We've got to make sure we give it its proper day.
Starting point is 00:10:47 Yeah. So I believe that'll be it. So Myron will be back on Monday, his last Monday. Tuesday we have a pop-up show. Wednesday it will be Tom Hart's last day. So we'll do Woodford County on Thursday. How bad would it be if we forgot? Woodford County.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Matt's back, and we did 119 to 120. And we just, we still have to finish the county game. I've already got people from Woodford County, though. They've been texting me for weeks. When is Woodford County Day? What is Woodford County? That'll be a good finale next Thursday. Maybe we should do it.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Let's go to Woodford County. You read my mind. We should go to Woodford County. It's a good idea. I love downtown there. We can do it at Freddy's house or something. Yeah, or the coffee shop there. They have a great downtown.
Starting point is 00:11:24 We've done a show there at the courthouse steps. We'll work on that. Yeah, we'll see if we can figure that. I'll be, we'll finish with a bang. 859-2-8027. Shanan's got the buzzer ready. Shannon got any phone calls? Jennifer.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Jennifer, go ahead, Jennifer. I'm not from Wolf County, but I traveled there one time to a preschool. Okay. Rules on the preschool ball. I'm going as fast as I can. Okay, I'm going to extend it. Shane, I'm going to go to extend her. I don't want to run.
Starting point is 00:11:49 It's a Wolf County car, yeah, yeah. Thank you. Okay, so there are regular rules on the wall for all the kids, and this was three and four-year-olds. Okay. Then there were separate rules for these three little boys that said their names. And then it said, no kissing, no cussing, no taking things out of other people's cubbies, no talking about beer. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:12:15 Wow, my kind of guy sounds like. Yeah, I think you would have enjoyed those three little fellas. Special rules for three guys in elementary school and Wolf County. And don't talk about beers, one of them. Well, thank you very much. I appreciate that. 8592.8. Does that count as our Wolf County caller? We'll count it. That's a good addition to the Wolf County.
Starting point is 00:12:36 We've got plenty. We've got some more. Let's get another one up then. Who we got? Jay. Jay, go ahead, Jay. Hey, guys. I'm from Wolf County. All right, here's our Wolf County caller.
Starting point is 00:12:45 What do we need to know about it? We got one MLB player, Pete Center. He played for the Cleveland Indians in the 40s. I saw that on Wikipedia. I didn't know who it was, but he played Major League Baseball. baseball he's from wolf county yes sir we got our community called uh calaboose which means jail house oh he gets to go ahead he's a wolf county guy oh you're gonna extend him to wolf people get extension well yeah no everybody's gonna say they're from wolf county then
Starting point is 00:13:13 also we've got a uh uh kind of a history with abraham lincoln also his uncle is buried in can feldon hanks fielding hanks so he'll den haines so he'll his wife's uncle is buried in Wolf County. It's his uncle. His mom's Nancy, Nancy's brother. Nancy's brother is buried in Wolf County. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:38 Yeah, he's buried in Campton there. And we also got the Hazel Green Academy. What is that? It used to be in old high school, and I think it was one of the only basketball teams to go undefeated, if I'm not mistaken. We'll have to look that up. No, it counts.
Starting point is 00:13:57 Okay. I believe you. I believe you. Yeah, you're saying it. It's fact. You got anything else? That's it. That's it.
Starting point is 00:14:04 That's a good Wolf County facts there for you, Mario. How about that? Hazel Green Academy. We've got to look that one up. We've got to verify that one. Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln's uncle lives there. Every county claims something about Abraham Lincoln.
Starting point is 00:14:16 Every single county. Abraham Lincoln walk through our county one time. We counted. 859-2-802. We'll take our break. We've got some more Wolf County callers. We got some more Drew's surprise gift. Don't you open your gift after this break.
Starting point is 00:14:29 I'm excited for you to see it. All right. We'll do that after the break. Also, this is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying.
Starting point is 00:14:41 And nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear.

Starting point is 00:15:27 This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:15:45 Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:16:04 American soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming. Ramos sending on to Ernie Stewart the chip. I'm Tab Ramos. I'm Tom Boke. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines. I'm not worried about Policic.
Starting point is 00:16:27 I'm not worried about Balligan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens. in the back. The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team.
Starting point is 00:16:43 It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tabramos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:17:07 So is this Tyler Booth? This is Tyler Booth. There we go. In honor of the kids talking about beer. Drinking Buddy. From the A Vision Glass Text Machine, those three kids that the caller was talking about is Drew, Shannon, and Ryan. Could be. 859-2-2-2-2-8.
Starting point is 00:17:26 A little Tyler Booth there for you. Yeah, if I remember right when he was here for KS Bar for the show, I think he said he was a freshman at Moorhead State and got discovered in a talent show or something. and that kind of springed forward his musical career, I think of something like that. This is Tyler Booth, you're talking. Yeah, he went to Moorhead State. Uh-huh. I did not know that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:47 He was at Manchester that night. You know, he did a big thing. That's right. He was a Manchester music all that night. I believe he did the national anthem too, didn't he? I believe he did. I think you're right about that. It's all coming back to me.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Yeah, me too. Needed a minute. Didn't get much sleep. Shannon said we got some more Wolf County callers on the line. Wolf County callers, so who we got, Shannon. I think most of these are. Let's try Blake. Okay, Blake, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:18:06 Are you Wolf County? I just talking about Natural Bridge and how Mario said he's afraid of height. So I was there with my daughter and my wife, and we were there at the same time, the guy who was overcoming his fear of heights walking over the bridge, and he held my daughter's hand when she was about two years old to walk across the bridge together. It was crazy. He hated heights. Oh.
Starting point is 00:18:32 That was so useless. I thought we were going to let Wolf County people go. not a Wolf County guy. He says he's talking about the natural bridge. You can't make yourself from Wolf County because you don't want to get buzzed. You are so cruel. Talking about his two-year-old daughter holding a guy's hand. You're calling me cruel and you tell me now whose idea wasn't to bring back the buzzer.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Anybody remember at the beginning of the show? Do we have short-term free loss that was Ryan Lennon's idea? So don't get mad when I enforce your own. Let's try it again. I want to apologize to that caller on behalf of everything. everyone. I want to apologize on behalf of Ryan Lemon
Starting point is 00:19:09 for bringing back to the buzzer today. Go ahead, Joe. Joe, go ahead. You got 20 seconds in last year from Wolf County. Yes. So Field and Hanks
Starting point is 00:19:18 has been taken in Hazel Green Academy. It's taken. But two things, we've never been to a sweet 16. And then the other big thing is the only guy
Starting point is 00:19:29 to ever escape Alcatraz and make it across to the mainland from Alcatraz. Rob DeF. What was he? name? Joe? Was it Joe? Rob Dillingham? I think he's what he said. No, he didn't say Rob Delliam, did he? He said Rob something. What was it Joe? Do you hang up? Joe? Joe.
Starting point is 00:19:48 What is it? Yeah, what's his name? It was his name. John Paul Scott was the name of the guy Rob the Bank. John Paul Scott. I'm looking at his Wikipedia page. Does it say he's in Wolf County? You know, I think he was brought up in another county. Is he got a little Abraham linking in him? Maybe so. Born in Springfield here on Wikipedia, which is often wrong. Well, that's Washington. Still, we appreciate it. the addition. Yeah, that's right. Well, again, maybe he has an uncle that's buried there or a walk through Wolf County or something. So, all right, who's next, Shannon? All right, let's go to Daniel. Daniel. Daniel, go ahead, Daniel. Hey there. I'm from Wolf County, and I just, unfortunately,
Starting point is 00:20:22 I want to let you know that Natural Bridge is not in Wolf County. Neither is Miguel's pizza. Parts of the Red River Gorge are in Wolf County, and the Wolf County, Powell County line is at the top of Slade Hill. we were going to give you guys natural bridge but if you said it's not if it's technically in pal county we got to give it back to powell county yeah i'm sorry sorry about that fellow wolf county but a big shout out to bruce and kim thank you all is that guy not from wolf county no i'm from wolf county oh you are okay okay okay got it Shannon was ready i was ready you saved yourself right there daniel we have we have another wolf county caller Shannon. We've got a couple
Starting point is 00:21:05 of more. I don't know if they're from Wolf. Let's go to Joey. Go ahead, Joey. What's up? Are you from Wolf County, Joey? No, this is Kelly, and I'm not from Wolf County, but I've been on Natural Bridge when I was 13, and I'm 50 years old now. There's no way you can get me to walk across
Starting point is 00:21:25 that thing. And I mean, on both sides of it, people were writing their names on it, you know, right on the... I knew that it was coming. He was right, though. I don't know how people put their initials on some of those places. It's incredible. I walked in the middle. I'm not looking over the edge, but some people do some dumb things.
Starting point is 00:21:44 Well, just don't go near the edge. You know, it's a big enough area you can walk in the middle. You don't have to. You know there are people that are walking straight to that edge. Yeah. I try to get close, but not so close that I'm going to maybe fall off it or anything like that. So, Shannon, we need to read us. I have a sponsor here for this segment.
Starting point is 00:22:03 Well, you know, yeah, we do have to pay some bills. This radio show isn't free for everybody. I think that was a little shan, a little shot at you right there. What are you talking about? Inside I heart baseball. You know, sometimes maybe billing gets confused in our world. Sometimes someone sitting next to me gets my money and I don't.
Starting point is 00:23:01 Sometimes I don't do anything and I get paid for it. Maybe you should have been the guy that should have been paid for that. You deserve everything. There we go. We're going to talk about the Olympics in a minute. I've got to tell you about, have you heard of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? I mean, I've heard of it. Have you sampled in it?
Starting point is 00:23:20 I have not. I've not dabbled. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. There's a thing called the Grappling Olympics. Submission Olympics. Submission Grappling Olympics. And it's also next month. in Las Vegas.
Starting point is 00:23:35 Okay, there's a reason I'm telling you this. Long story to get to her. There are two Kentuckians on Team USA. One guy is Jacob Couch, raised in a holler in Hazard. Oh, nice. Worked his way into being one of the top-ranked athletes in the world in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Kind of a rags to riches story. Here's the second guy, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Brandon Reed. He's from Louisville, and he was three-time national champion at Lindsay Wilson, College. Oh, wow. What sport was that? I was answering a phone call. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I didn't know he had that at Lindsay Wilson.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Three-time national champion in wrestling at Lindsay Wilson College. And now these two guys are going to be on Team USA at the Summer Olympics for grappling. Submission grappling. Can we bet that on draft kings? Maybe. Draftlings doesn't want to make some money. Put it on there for their parlay. I just looked up your boy, Jacob Couch.
Starting point is 00:24:33 His nickname is the Hillbilly Hammer. Oh, how can you not love that? He's my favorite to win. It's also his Instagram handle. That's the guy. The Hillbilly Hammer. I don't know what his is on Draft Kings, but we're taking him. He's our new favorite on Draft Kings.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Oh, yeah. It sounds like Blue is getting in the Brazilian jitsu. Well, look up the other guy, Brandon Reed, R-E-E-D. R-E-E-D. It's going to be tough to beat the Hillbilly Hammer as far as getting my interest. At least it gives us some local guys to root for. We've got the Kentucky guys on the Olympic basketball team and Devin Booker, Bamadabio, and Anthony Davis.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Although it seems like they need LeBron to win every game they're playing right now. Do you see that? LeBron had to beat a late shot to beat, what, South Sudan, and then a late shot to beat Germany. Man, he's doing it again, man. But I think they'll be fine. They'll be fine going into the Olympics. Let's not forget who they got on their roster.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Like he said, a lot of Kentucky guys and Anthony Davis, Devin Booker and Steph Curry, the greatest shooter ever. He's on the roster as well. So, yeah, they're not playing as good as they should be playing, but I think they'll be fine. I looked up Brandon Reed. Okay. Would not mess with that guy.
Starting point is 00:25:40 I mean, I wouldn't mess with anybody. That's a bad-looking dude. He's got 103,000 followers on Instagram, Brandon Reed 3X. He's got a picture where he's got somebody beat down and the caption says, The face I make when people who hear I'm from Kentucky ask me if I like KFC.
Starting point is 00:25:55 That's the caption. That's a big dude. He's a big dude. The guy right there, look how big is. It's a big man. I'll pay a little attention to them now. Thanks for putting that on the radar. So LeBron with the Olympics, what does it say that he's, I mean, he's 40 years old
Starting point is 00:26:11 and he's still the best player on the best team in the world, and he's hitting game-winning shots. I mean, the dude just never ceases to amaze me. For a second, I thought you're going to end your sentence. The dude is the greatest of all time, but he's not. See, I'm old-school. I'm on the Michael Jordan train. I have a little LeBron exhaustion.
Starting point is 00:26:30 I'm not a LeBron hater. I admire respect what he's done, but I've been a little, I'm ready for a new era of NBA, but he has put the team on his back the past two games. Yes, he has. They should have lost both of those games, which is sad. I mean, we got Winning Gabriel out there almost taking down an American and exhibition game. I'm hoping they're just not giving it their full effort in these showcases. Jell.
Starting point is 00:26:52 But if they play like they did against those two teams, we ain't winning gold. Yeah, for sure. I think it's a gel thing. I think they're still trying to gel, still early on. But Olympics is coming up. Let's just hope that they get things together for the Olympics. Booker could be a little better. I'll say it.
Starting point is 00:27:06 I even said before they started playing, watch Devin Booker. He's going to be my MVP. He's kind of, he needs to step it up a little bit, heading to Paris. Anthony and Bam have been playing great. Yeah. They've been like the leading scores for a lot of their exhibition games and things. Yeah, but there's just no reason you should be down to South Sudan. All right.
Starting point is 00:27:23 Well, take our break. Come back. More Wolf County callers. If you want to call, Shannon won't buzz you. We come back on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you
Starting point is 00:27:36 exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaders to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them.
Starting point is 00:28:10 Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:28:31 This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker.
Starting point is 00:28:53 Listen to the Clippers show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? This Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. our podcast point game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 00:29:12 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Starting point is 00:29:42 Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcasts. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Starting point is 00:30:07 Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Yeah, this is the song that got me last night. The reason you didn't get Singo. I thought it was pouring some sugar on me when they first started. They had the drum, they know, do-do-do-do-do-do-do. And I thought, okay, that's it. I yelled Singo, and it wasn't it.
Starting point is 00:30:25 You thought wrong. You know, our friends in Stockton Mortgage are here for your home loan needs with locations all over Kentucky and beyond. Stockton Mortgage is licensed in 30 states, and they're growing. When we first started doing these promos, it was 25 states. What are we up to? 30. How about that?
Starting point is 00:30:39 Can't keep up. Find out how they can help you in your home ownership journey by going to Stockton.com, NMLS 8259, Equal Housing Lender, with over 13,500 reviews, five-star reviews. Stockton Mortgage has a lot of happy customers. All right. Shannon, we got some more Wolf County callers, and you said that you said that your, as vicious and as mean as mean as ever with your button as today. I mean, these people that are getting buzz
Starting point is 00:31:05 and you're now having sympathy for them. Look, they chose this, okay? They called me. I didn't call them. You're the one that put in the buzzer. We could just take the buzzer away if you're, you know, feeling bad about it. From the A Vision Glass Text Machine,
Starting point is 00:31:19 Shannon is extra sassy since he started playing pickleball. I talked about on the pre-show. I got a free set of pickleball paddles and the ball, whatever you, I guess you just call it a pickle ball, pickle ball, and played last night. And it was fun.
Starting point is 00:31:35 It was a lot of fun. Have you guys ever played? No. I'm not played, but I would like to. I'm not a hater like Matt. I would enjoy some pickleball. I just haven't gotten around to it. And the thing about Matt, he would be really good at it because he's good at ping pong and he's good at tennis.
Starting point is 00:31:47 This would be a sport he probably would be really good at. Well, that's what I was saying. Like, you know, for most people, tennis is just like there's too much ground to cover. The ball is going too fast. It's hard to be competitive with just, you know, the average price. person, this kind of slows it all down. It makes the space smaller. The ball doesn't come off the racket as hard normally, so it's just easier to play. In 1940, Hazel Green High School won the Kentucky State Basketball Championship by beating Ashland in the championship game.
Starting point is 00:32:16 So Wolf County does have a state title. It belongs to Hazel Green High School. How about that? Good for them. Good for them. All right, 859-2-287. Who we got, Shannon? Jeff.
Starting point is 00:32:28 Jeff, you got 20 seconds unless you're from Wolf County. Now, I'm from Lexington, man. I got a quick question. Since you're finishing up the counties, are you still going to walk to Versels to do the Woodford County show? No, no, good question. But the deal was if we finished it by the end of the year. And that was in 2020.
Starting point is 00:32:46 And the dude went 50 miles, man. You can't at least walk 10. No, I can't. I'm going to extend, Jeff. He's making a great point here. Buzzard. Buzzard. No, no, I'm extending them.
Starting point is 00:32:56 We all get an extension. Jeff's my guy. I agree with Jeff. He's got a great point. I'm going to make them the call of the day if you're not. All right. Yeah. Don Franklin, the call of the day.
Starting point is 00:33:05 Now you can get the buzzer, buzzer. No, you get nothing for being in the call. Well, the deal was if we finished him by the end of the year, and we did not. We were like 13 counties short. Never ended the game when you started. Yeah. We're finishing them by the end of this year, so you didn't say which year specifically. Yeah, about the calendar year.
Starting point is 00:33:23 That's right. You want to walk to Woodford County? No, I don't. No, I don't. I appreciate the phone call. I'll go with you. I walk. Wait a minute.
Starting point is 00:33:32 You want to? When is it? When are we going to do it? Thursday. How far is it? Probably from my house. It's probably 12, 13 miles. You don't want to do that.
Starting point is 00:33:40 We'll have to cut that out of the podcast. I'm not against it. If you set it up, I'll make it work. Let's just set it up at Freddy's house. I like that idea a lot better. All right. We'll set up in Freddy's house. We'll come back to that one.
Starting point is 00:33:53 Who's next, Shannon? Let's go to Roy. Roy. Go ahead, Roy. Yes, sir. He got Wolfgang Connections. All right. Number one, in the 60s, when LBJ was doing war on poverty, at that time, Wolfgang was the poorest county in the U.S.
Starting point is 00:34:08 LBJ went there and he was a speech related to it. Number two, Hazel Green Academy was a private boarding school. Number three in World War II. Oh, can we extend him? I mean, you got an extension. I'll use my extension. Go ahead. Number three.
Starting point is 00:34:26 Number three, during World War II, an military plane landed there in Hazel Green and all the kids come running out. The pilot says, where am I? They said, you're in the big bottom. That's the big bottom of Hazel Green as if the pilot's supposed to know that. I like that. I'm glad we extended that for that story. Good job. Appreciate the phone call.
Starting point is 00:34:49 859-2-802-287. So, Mario, you're the only one who's got an extension left. I'm saving it. Saving it for the. Okay, Shan, who's next? Jeff. Jeff, go ahead, Jeff. Yes, you need to go to Red Point Barbecue in Campton in Wolf County.
Starting point is 00:35:04 One of the best restaurants you'll ever eat at, pulled pork, brisket, ribs that just fall off the bone. Unbelievable. It's in the middle of nowhere, but it's well worth a trip. All right, appreciate you. See, we get the recommendation on a restaurant now in Wolf County since we found out that McGills is actually in Powell County. need someplace to go on Wolf County. He just caught in for a 20-second commercial. I think he did. I'm starting to tell me if I'm wrong.
Starting point is 00:35:33 Didn't we have Red Point at a show? It was the one in that big wedding venue barn that we kind of had to park in the mud and go to and they had all that food for us. That was Red Point Barbecue, wasn't it? I believe it was. So was that wedding venue technically in Wolf County? I'll have to look it up
Starting point is 00:35:47 to confirm, but we have had Red Point barbecue and I will confirm it was delicious. It was very, very good. That's exactly what it was. They catered the event. out there. When he said Red Point, I was like, God, it sounds familiar. We have had that at the show. Good memory.
Starting point is 00:36:00 All right, Shannon. Who's next? Nobody. 859-2802-287. That's the phone. That's the phone. Everyone gets on board. If you're from Woodford, Wolf County, or you want Shannon to buzz you if you're not
Starting point is 00:36:10 from Wolf County, give us a call now. Okay, what you got in this bag, Drew? Well, Ryan, I've been sitting on this a while. Part of it is because statute of limitations. But March 2nd, let's go back to there. We did a show. That night, Kentucky, was playing Arkansas in Rupp Arena.
Starting point is 00:36:27 Okay. It was the last CBS sports game ever in Rupp Arena. Yes. The contracts removing. Yep. I said on that show, I want that CBS banner that always hangs on the brick wall over there in the corner. Yeah. Ron Lemon, when I tell you something, I'm going to follow through with it.
Starting point is 00:36:41 So if you would open this gift, I got something for you and KS Bar that has been in my house for quite a while. No, wait a minute. Am I now officially receiving stolen property? Well, you're in charge of decorating. There is a beautiful horizontal space. right up there. I think it will fit perfectly, but that is the, that is the CBS banner. It went home with me that evening. From the last CBS game. Yes. That is a, that is a piece of
Starting point is 00:37:07 UK basketball history and I want you to have it. And coincidentally, it was against Arkansas. It was against Arkansas. Of all people. That's a little side story we didn't see coming, but, you know, that everyone knows that banner that sits over there in the corner. Because it's strategically place where it's always on the camera. So you see it during the broadcast. I called my shot that morning. I tried to pull it up on podcast today, but I said I was going to get it.
Starting point is 00:37:32 I pulled up a tweet where I tweeted a picture of it that night where it was just sitting there. If you go to the replies, there's just all kinds of people saying, do it, do it. So Ryan, it went home with me, and it's going to go right up there to the entrance of KS Bar. I have now received stolen property. I am now an accomplice to your theft.
Starting point is 00:37:51 No, I'm out of it. It is gift. My hands are clean. I think your fingerprints are all over it. Nope, no, power washed it this morning. We need to almost. It's a hot banner. We need to almost like put the facts on it.
Starting point is 00:38:03 Like Arkansas, at Kentucky, Rupp Arena of the date. I'm hoping maybe we can track down some CBS personalities, maybe get some signatures on it. That's a good idea. But I didn't want it to just go in the trash or whatever they do with it. It's going to live on here. Live on and KS. Bond Grill. We'll remember that long era of those CBS Saturdays that were so much of our Kentucky basketball fan.
Starting point is 00:38:23 And those Florida games, had a lot of Tennessee games on there. It can live on here. All those CBS Saturday games where they used to play North Carolina on the Saturday in December, Indiana, Louisville. They were all CBS games all the time. Those are all gone. But not at KS Bar. We can still have those memories. And that is a perfect spot for it right there.
Starting point is 00:38:41 Those is radio and people can't see what we're looking at, but it's going to look good there. It's going to be really cool. So that's your gift because Matt wanted you to decorate this summer. And I knew I was sitting on that and Matt's going to walk in and he's going to be so proud of who you self. Well, we've got some banners up already. We've got some new pictures we're getting ready to put up. So it'll look a little different in here, I think. We've got a Reed Shepherd jersey framed that's coming.
Starting point is 00:39:01 It's getting framed right now. We need some baseball stuff too. Someone asked about that. I mean, after Omaha, I have my pink fuzzy hat. I might just hang it up in here somewhere. You said that. The Nolan McCarthy dive, that picture we thought about putting it up. Not now.
Starting point is 00:39:16 We will in time. It'll be a little while. I don't know what we can do it now. We'll keep in the attic until he's moved on from Georgia. Okay, okay, I got you. Yeah, not this year while he's playing for Georgia. But that was the, you said, you know, the lasting image of that baseball season was the dive into home. We had the picture, the great picture of it.
Starting point is 00:39:33 That is the image of Kentucky baseball. I mean, he even had Pete Rose. Even the great Pete Rose did through Doug Flynn. All right, we'll take our final break. We got our final subject with Shannon. You got another sponsor you need to tell us about? Yeah, let me tell you to stop over paying for sunglasses. If you're tired of buying expensive sunglasses only to lose or break them, then you need to check out Shady Ray.
Starting point is 00:39:51 is they're an independent American-owned company. Start it right here in Kentucky. They have premium polarized shades for every activity and every pair of their shades are backed by the lost and broken protection plan. If you lose or break your shady rays, come in and they will replace them. No question to ask. Use the promo code KSR for 50% off to repair or more
Starting point is 00:40:08 in store with their flagship location at the summit at Fritz Farm or online at shady rays.com. He is Shannon the dude. We've got Drew Franklin and Super Mario. We'll be right back and wrap it up. One more segment. Phone lines are open. If you're from Wolf County, want to hear from you.

Starting point is 00:41:57 And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:42:20 I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He run up the court licking his fingers while he got the bar.
Starting point is 00:42:45 Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. Starting point is 00:43:44 From the A Vision Glass Text Machine, now you guys have a banner to replace that NCAA banner that has been a curse since its first season at KS Bar and Girl. Fair point. Yeah, we were talking about that last night at the TBT game, how this place still hasn't had much of a tournament run. That's why I think that's why TVT has been so good for us.
Starting point is 00:44:01 This is our tournament. We got a little, got some success. Hazel Green, apparently, a lot of people are saying, is actually located in Laurel County. The team that won the state championship, Hazel Green, is Laurel County. So I'm not sure. I wasn't around in 1940, but it's possible that maybe that Hazel Green
Starting point is 00:44:18 has been another county. Well, there's a hazel green in Wolf County, so we're talking about that one, too. All right, one more promo I want to tell you about Louisville City FC. On Saturday, they've got UK night. And, Mario, they've got a meet and greet with Coach Johan Settigrin. Yep. That is it pronounced it? I pronounce it right?
Starting point is 00:44:35 I believe you did. So you got a meet and greet with the UK men's coach, Coach Settigran. The UK alumni chapter in Louisville is always very, very active, and they do a lot of stuff. So you're having a meet and greet with the coach this Saturday at the Louisville City FC match, greater Louisville UK Elam Night Club. You can check out all the info on the social media pages. Very nice guy. I had a chance to talk with him on my podcast a few months back,
Starting point is 00:44:56 and he's all about the work, and he's really built that program that UK men's soccer program really well. If you haven't been out to a game, you've got to check it out. I know Drew said that, you know, it's a great atmosphere. Oh, yeah. Over at the Bell, he's had them in the NCAA tournament a bunch. He's won the coach of the year in the conference. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:14 We don't talk about, you know, had a lot going on with all these secondary sports. sports playing so well, but we don't mention soccer enough. They've been doing good things, too. Well, it's like all the secondary sports, volleyball, softball, you know. UK's doing it all. Doing it all. Both soccer teams, swimming, track and field. You know, we're going to have athletes in the Olympics from the way to play to the UK.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Can't wait to see Sidney. When we were losing to Germany in basketball a few days ago, I tweeted like, can she play point guard? Like, let's just put Sydney in every sport if we're not going to be winning the way we need to be winning. 859-2-287. Who we got, Shannon? Alex.
Starting point is 00:45:45 Alex. Alex. Are you from Wolf County? No, but my wife is from Boobble, which goes through there from Lexington on your way there. I wanted to tell you guys to eat at the Wicked Wolf. That's a very good place to eat there. Burgers, onion rings, all that type of stuff. But it's got an awesome name and it's pretty good food.
Starting point is 00:46:07 Then lastly, I wanted to say last night at the game, I booed time. I want my extension. I want my extension. Mario's using it. Firal's using the extension. I booed Tyler Ulyss last night. He's an Arkansas coach. I booed him.
Starting point is 00:46:23 And you extended that, Mario. Wow, I thought it was going to be something. You wasted your extension. Yeah. I appreciate the phone call. Well, you can't boo him yet. Speaking of Tyler, he's doing a splendid job. Oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 00:46:37 He doesn't get enough credit. He doesn't get enough credit. You know, you talk, the guys that were here that day, they talk about, man, he's, like, legit. Like, he's taking this serious, and he's really working on being. in a good, someday a good head coach somewhere. Good experience for him. He's taking it very, very seriously.
Starting point is 00:46:52 Not to get away from Ulyss, but I wanted to add a Wolf County thing that I confirmed during the break. I don't want to miss it out. The place we went is in Wolf County. Remember Appalachian Rose Farm? Yes. The big venue. We had the barbecue. That is in Wolf County.
Starting point is 00:47:04 I thought it was, but I had to get online and make sure. So add that to the list. That was a fun show. Well, it was a great show. So, you know, Wolf County is one of the counties we've been in. We've done, but that wasn't that long ago. I mean, you had to want to get there. It was hard to get there, but it was beautiful once we got there.
Starting point is 00:47:19 Is that where Billy's stayed in night? I remember they had other stuff around there too. He did with their dog, I think. Did he stay in there with their dog? Maybe, but yeah, that confirmed. Did you go to that show? No, I don't remember that. A wedding venue way out in the mountains?
Starting point is 00:47:32 It may have been before you joined us. Yeah. It was beautiful out there, yeah. And the barbecue, I remember, was really good. Yep. 859-2-287. Who's next, Shannon? No calls.
Starting point is 00:47:42 No calls. Phone lines are open. If you've got, if you want to get buzzed by Shias. Shannon, it's been your lifelong dream. Now's your chance. Let's tell them what's ahead this week. We've got two big shows coming up. A lot of basketball talk ahead.
Starting point is 00:47:54 So tomorrow is Kyle Mann. He hosts an NBA podcast, correct? Yeah, he's employed by the ringer. Been a longtime friend of the show. People probably remember he'd make some remixes of Kentucky Joe back in the day, too. He was the original, Shannon, that took J. Kyle Man. And made these mixes of Kentucky Joe's songs that made it
Starting point is 00:48:16 listenable. Well, you know what? You took the words out of my mouth. He made it listenable. So it just goes to show you. You know, you do a little radio magic, along with studio magic, and all of a sudden you got a hit. That's what Kentucky Joe's done with Jay Kyle, man.
Starting point is 00:48:30 So he's got a big following through the rain. He does a great job covering basketball. Very excited to hear his thoughts on how things went and how they're looking for the future. So he will be on the show with you and you and I tomorrow. Yeah, you're coming to? Yeah, we'll all three be here tomorrow for the show. And we'll be here at KS Bar and Grill. All right.
Starting point is 00:48:46 Friday is the field of 68. Yes. Rob Doster, John Fanta. Yeah, we don't know which personalities they're going to put on. We just handed it over to them. John Fanta did it last year. He's calling the TBT games at the Louisville Regional. So, I mean, he'll probably have a lot to say.
Starting point is 00:49:02 I think he might even be calling the night. I guess he will. He might be calling tonight. So they'll be taking over Friday. So a lot of basketball talk the next two days. Yeah. And then next week's our last week before Matt comes back. We've got, like we said, Miron on Monday.
Starting point is 00:49:14 We have a pop-up show on three. Tuesday, Tom Leach on Wednesday. Thursday we'll do Woodford County here at the restaurant. So we got one more show here at the restaurant. And then Friday is August 2nd, UK Football Media Day. That's always fun show. We get to go out there and do the show. Yeah, I'm hoping we get good weather.
Starting point is 00:49:28 And UK gives us our blessing to plug in out there. I know we've done it most years, if not all of them. And that's always one of the most fun. Just coaches will just walk up and answer a few questions and maybe get a few players. Hope that works out. One of the most fun shows I've ever done with you, just you and me, was UK Football Media Day.
Starting point is 00:49:44 when we had Vince Merrill came and sat down with us. The first time we met Max Duffy. We met Max Duffy for the first time. That left us alone with Media Day. It ended up being one of my favorite shows. They were very relaxed. Vince telling stories. Did Cash pop in on that way?
Starting point is 00:50:01 Cash Daniels was on that show. Vince started singing Elton John in the middle of our show because Shannon started playing Milton John for him. I think that might have been a Terry Wilson year. I think we talked to Terry Wilson. I believe you're right about that. Yeah. Looking forward to that next week.
Starting point is 00:50:13 So we've got a lot more coming on. Then, of course, Friday, Shannon. Alice Bluegown makes their debut here at KS Bar and Grill. I'm so excited. Yeah, starting at 8 o'clock. Are you going to get up on stage and do some wagon wheel with us, Ryan? It's going to depend on how much alcohol you've had before we get going. It may depend on some pre-gaming activities and how that goes.
Starting point is 00:50:32 We'll save it for the last set. Well, you know, maybe the earlier the better. Oh, you think the earlier the better? I mean. It might help my performance, I think, the earlier in your show set than later than later, and later in the show set. I got you. Sometimes I think you need a little lick with courage.
Starting point is 00:50:47 But I think we're going to have a good crowd. A lot of people are already talking about. They're going to try to come and get here. We're not taking reservations. As of right now, it's just kind of first come, first serve right here. We'll also have on, that's opening ceremony night, too. So we'll have a little bit of that. We can watch them do their laps while you're listening to Shannon of the dude.
Starting point is 00:51:02 And then I don't know how much we'll talk Olympics, but I'm going to get into it. I'm looking forward to the Olympics. Maybe we'll bring it to the show. Well, with all the UK flavor, it gives you something to kind of pay attention to a little more. you know, with the track and field and the basketball. And the break dancing. It's not UK, but I'm excited to see the brake dancing. So, you know, I said Thursday will be at KS Bar and Grill.
Starting point is 00:51:22 We might be at Freddy's house. We might be walking. We might be walking in Woodford County. We'll work on that. All right, thanks to everybody who joined us today. We've got a good crowd here. People came in for lunch. Phoenix is here.
Starting point is 00:51:31 Check out his stuff on the UK women's team. They're quietly building an awesome team over there. We don't really talk about them enough. Well, they're not quietly building Memorial because I was there yesterday, and you can barely hear us talking in my interviews. Construction is still ongoing over there. We'll be back tomorrow with Kyle Mann. Thanks for joining us for Mario, for Drew, for Shannon.
