Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
Starting point is 00:01:19 He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back. Hour number two. Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Super Mario here at another KSR summer tour pop-up show. We are live at the Lexington Tennis Challenger, presented by Meridian Wealth Management. It's a USDA Pro Circuit event, kind of the up-and-coming stars on the tennis circuit are all being playing here.
Starting point is 00:03:05 You can buy a $10 ticket and get to see tennis for the whole day. I mean, if you're a tennis guy, if you're not a tennis guy, you're going to watch some good action. $10 get you in for the whole day. A lot of the players are starting to warm up right now. You can probably maybe hear it in the background a little bit. But come on out here. It's been here for 30 years, kind of a staple in Lexington now in the summer. This time of year, late July, early August you.
Starting point is 00:03:26 That's when they have it every year. Yeah, I got food trucks, a lot going on. even if you barely know anything about tennis. It's just a good day to get out here and see it. Remember, Matt and I called some of the matches for this one time. That's right. As best as we could. You mentioned armadillos and the aviation last time which he just blew up.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Yeah. There are armadillo sightings, I guess. Shannon, you and I did not know they were this prevalent in Kentucky. Hopkinsville, Benton, Nortonville, Clofton, Elizabethtown. They're everywhere. Well, I mean, yeah, somebody's like, I don't know why you care about an armadillo. It's just a possum and a half-shell because it's awesome. That's why.
Starting point is 00:03:59 I mean, that's like saying, well, I don't know why you care about snakes. It's just a lizard without legs. I mean, it's still an armadillo. It surprised me to see it on the side of the road on the I-65 in Franklin. So also on the aviation glass-fetched machine, Mario's got a question. He's got a good question for us, yes. I stole this question from on Twitter. His handle is high school top recruiting.
Starting point is 00:04:21 So shout out to him. I'm still in this question. This is for you guys. The question is, if you had to add one player to the TBT squad that isn't an active, NBA player, who would it be? Who you guys got? I'll go last. I'll go first.
Starting point is 00:04:34 I'm going to think about it. DeMarcus cousins. Yeah. When Willie went to the bench with a few fouls, they tried to pound it inside. Nate Justine was putting up his best fight, but we needed a little more size. It boogie in there, it was in there.
Starting point is 00:04:45 I think it would have been quick work of the basketball and the post-game scrum as well. Just trying to go through my head and think, okay, who's not active right now in the NBA? Well, I think boogie's a great answer. Yeah, that is. Rondo may be in the conversation. John Wall could probably be in the conversation guys
Starting point is 00:05:02 They can't play a whole game But they can play them in spurts and stuff Oh, Wall could give him a game He's trying an NBA comeback right now Well, he's a good answer then Can I give my answer while you think, Shannon? Yeah, go ahead It's going to throw you off a little bit
Starting point is 00:05:14 But my guy is Isaiah Brisco Oh, there you go Yeah, I think he would be really good In something like this He'd definitely put on the show He's in Big Three now But I think he'd be a great pick Well, he kind of was supposed to be on the team
Starting point is 00:05:25 I think he left him hanging a little bit To go to the Big Three He was supposed to be part of the original the roster so that almost came true. I'm going to vote for a guy that is a friend of the show that probably is not in game shape, but I would love to see him out there. Woo. Woo! I knew you were going to say that.
Starting point is 00:05:40 I knew you. I almost gave Woo my extra ticket last night. I was going to hit him up in Louis. Woo would be fun because he could be like the Daniel Orton guy just come in and just set massive picks and help you stay out of trouble. And he plays well against Louis. That's true. That's true. Marcus Lee. He was there last night.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Markis Lee was there. Talked to him post game. He may be one, you know, a high flyer that can we play still play a little bit? Really, I don't want anyone to take away the Nate Sustina Sean, though. I mean, he's our MVP. Yeah. Nate Sistina Day. That's what it was yesterday.
Starting point is 00:06:09 His stock has gone up significantly. So, I mean, we all liked him. We get a shot. Will you get a chance in the NBA? I just met his stock with a fan. Bally, NBA maybe, I don't know, but just with the fan. He had that one year, and we liked him. And he was on a good team, but, you know, it was the COVID year.
Starting point is 00:06:21 Didn't get a tournament. When you don't have a tournament, you don't have a lot of memories to hang on to how that ended. So he's really embraced this because of how his season ended in Lexington. and he might hate Louisville more than anyone else on the planet. It had to be the most watched TBT game of all time last. Oh, no doubt. Obviously, most attended, but then you throw in the fact that all of Kentucky was watching if no other state was. It was so loud in there.
Starting point is 00:06:41 I was telling you guys off air, it was so loud that the players, when they were getting announced in the starting lineup, the live-familiar players couldn't even hear their name. They had to wait for a second. Are they called them my name? Okay, that's me, and then they go out from the starting lineup. So it was insane. The atmosphere was incredible. Thanks for having us, Louisville.
Starting point is 00:06:57 That's at 9 o'clock on. on a Monday night in late July. And they had that kind of atmosphere and that much noise for a, watch some old guy, old timers play basketball. What times do you get to sleep, Mario? 4 a.m., I would say. Mario was texting me at about 3.35. You know, we're both. You got that adrenaline rush.
Starting point is 00:07:14 You know, of course, I'm a victim, so I had to put stuff on my chest. I'm from that assault. So I couldn't just go straight to sleep. 859-2802-287. We've got the folks who have been holding for a while, Matt. So who we got first? Vince. Go ahead, Vince.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Guys, I just want to tell y'all, the rivalry is back. It is back, baby. I think so. It needed that. It needed that little spark last night to get the rivalry back to where it used to be. It needed the whole thing. And I needed it personally because in 2014, my brother went to Louisville to play football. And even though I tried to hold out, I tried to hold out, I ended up getting soft,
Starting point is 00:07:57 and I let a little bit of Louisville creep in my heart. can't do that exorcism time yeah man it so it crept in the state and it stayed there for a while because Louisville was so bad I had no reason to worry about anything
Starting point is 00:08:12 but with them coming back out of their holes after Pat Kelsey's getting hired them feeling good with Brian Brum you can hear him start turping again and I'm a Louisville guy been a UK fan in Louisville I've been here most of my life
Starting point is 00:08:26 and you can just feel it getting back to those levels and being in the freedom hall last night atmosphere was absolutely electric man electric crazy like like as mario was saying that the uh the crap the noise in that was yeah it was definitely it was insane appreciate it Vince thanks for the phone call yeah i mean it's just awesome to kind of get that feeling that hey you know that rival we we've had against louisville kind of felt like it it was back at least for last night yeah i mean they've been so bad we kind of forget they're over there they don't really ever do anything relevant college basketball.
Starting point is 00:09:01 What, eight wins last? What are you going to say to someone that had eight wins? You almost want to pray for them. So it's good to get some confidence out of them last night just to smack them right back down where they belong. It did sort of recharge, though, I feel like both fan bases. I mean, just with new coaches and then throwing that game last night, how heat it that was.
Starting point is 00:09:17 The game in December is going to be a lot of fun. Oh, there's no doubt. Well, the football game here in Lexington. I think that could be a lot of fun. Let's keep winning that too. Who's next? Matt's getting out of the phone call. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:09:28 Freebird. go ahead freebird hello free bird free bird are you a radio down what is free bird oh he's called it before he's going to hear it yeah free bird park twice from Milwaukee okay sorry free bird we gave you many a time Johnny Versace oh yeah you have the floor Johnny Versace please continue. Yeah, as a big-time Louisville hater, I have a Hall of Fame of Kentucky players that I base on performance plus hate for Louisville, and Will Levis is at the very top of that,
Starting point is 00:10:12 and now Nate Sustina is in the top five. I mean, that guy killed them and then gave him the L's down. I mean, I just loved every minute of it. I was there. It was so Louisville. I mean, I've been to the Yom Center, and that's a cosmopolitan crowd compared to what was there last night. That was a rough cruise. But, you know, we got along.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Nobody said anything or did anything to me. I saw some, you know, fan on fan crime. But, I mean, we had a great time. Like, you know, I'm withdrew. I mean, I almost like the fact that they had a little bit of hope for a few minutes. I mean, they never led the entire game. But it was even more fun when, you know, Harrison just threw the dagger on them. And thank God that their spit and their head butts are more accurate than their three-point shooting.
Starting point is 00:11:07 I appreciate it, Johnny Versace. Thank you very much. Yeah, the guys like Johnny Versace and Marsha Poe that live in Louisville that are Kentucky fans, sweet night for him last night. I had a fun moment before I became a victim. I thought I was going to get a drink in my face. There was a guy yelling at Abby to get my attention. He was leaning over the rail and he had a full margarita in his hand.
Starting point is 00:11:24 And I was like, should I go? go talk to him. She's like, that drink is going to end up in your face. But I went over there. Actually, a very cordial little fan. He just wanted to say hi. I don't know if he listens to the show, but as I was walking to him, I thought that was going to be my moment. That would be wearing his margarita. Is that your favorite moment? What was your favorite moment? Outside of getting punched. That wasn't my favorite moment. I'm a victim, Mario. I have to go through the legal system today. I don't want to do that. I don't want to go to the doctor. Can I really just... I'll give you mine. Yeah, go ahead. I like, mine is really, really small.
Starting point is 00:11:56 I just like the fact that Daniel Orton, the game was going on, but Daniel Orton was in his own little mind, I would say. He's talking, he's joined back and forth with the fans, since he's so close. The bench is so close to the fans near the bench. Yeah. And that's all you're hearing all day. Is Daniel Orton and the fans going back and forth from back and forth?
Starting point is 00:12:12 And I was just enjoying that. I was enjoying that. I know the game was going on, but I was enjoying the Daniel Orton show. Mine's really Sistina, just being, as Johnny Versace said, His, we didn't know this little hatred was inside him until last night. He let that butterfly fly everywhere all over Freedom Hall. That was good to see. Really, mine's an overall take of the TBT.
Starting point is 00:12:33 I've said this a few times about the Reparina games. It's just that was like a golden era for Kentucky basketball. Those were some of my favorite teams. I knew those guys personally a little bit. We went through the Bahamas trips. They were very close to KSR. It's as close to a friend as we've ever had on the team, really, some of those guys. So there's them being back and, you know, being around them and seeing them have that fun,
Starting point is 00:12:52 again. The Harrison twins look like they are loving every minute of being around the UK experience again and beating Louisville. You know, they're guys kind of shy, kind of quiet, haven't heard much from them since they've been around. I don't know if they said it publicly, but you can just tell they really are glad that they didn't appreciate what's going, and they've been a big part of it. So it's kind of a broader thing, but I just love having some of the all-time favorites
Starting point is 00:13:15 being around, having all this fun. It is a law familiar day here at the Lexington Tennis Challenger, presented by Meridian Wealth Management. Ryan Drew Shannon and Super Mario will take your calls 859-280-2-287 That's Clark's Pumpa Shop phone number We still got to do our Whiskey Thief song of the day I gave it to Wednesday night Shannon
Starting point is 00:13:32 Shannon singing Stone Temple pilots and foo fighters And some of their favorites there I figure you would give it to Wagon and Wheel It would be in a Darius record song But that was very that was a bad performance I forgot the words at one point in the middle of the song Shannon

Starting point is 00:15:51 If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. It's a good thing that guy that punched you last night isn't going to be involved in that pay-per-view fight. He wouldn't last too long. He would certainly be an underdog. Well, speaking of Draft Kings, I did put all
Starting point is 00:17:38 $9 in my Draft King's account on Laughamilla to cover the two and a half point spread. Hey, congratulations. Thank you. We love our friends. Now, I've got like $17 now in my bank account. We always love our friends of Draft Kings, but the lines we've been getting for LaFamiliar
Starting point is 00:17:52 have been a giveaway. I'm 6 and O now betting on them, the totals, and the spread. Maybe it'll get corrected eventually, but it's been fun putting a little money behind the team throughout this tournament. making your money for the punts, you know, football seats. Oh, yes, football seats coming. Brian likes to blindly bet punt.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Yes. On games he's not even watching. Well, especially if there's bad weather. If it's a bad weather game, oh yeah, punt every single time. I'm going to do it. I don't care what's going on. All right, 859-2802-287. Matt says we still got some callers, so who we got, Matt?
Starting point is 00:18:20 Kelly, go ahead, Kelly. Hey, guys. I was at the game last night, Corey and I went, and let me tell you, he's a quiet, when he's, you know, hosting with, you know, with Shannon and Billy sometimes or doing trivia on Kentucky Roll Call on Thursday mornings, you know, giving him all his props. But, like, when we were at the game, he, like, I was a little bit nervous, to be honest. Because he is, he is an ultimate, I feel like you can almost kind of put him in there with the,
Starting point is 00:18:59 with the Harrison twins because he's quiet, but he's also going to talk the most trash, and we were surrounded by Louisville fans, so I'm looking around like, I'm a little bit nervous. I mean, thankfully, eventually everybody, you know, around us either left or just didn't say much else. But, I mean, like, it was great. I absolutely loved everything about that game last night.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Well, he's another guy that grew up in Louisville, so he has to fight the fight every single day, yeah. Yeah, and I mean, like, we were on the same row, but it opposite of his mom, and, like, she's a Louisville fan. So, like, family are Louisville fans. So, it was, I mean, you know, he's a lone wolf in that family. But, I mean, like, look, it was so much fun. I love the Harrison twins. We saw him in the parking lot, and I wanted to go hug them, and Corey told me it'd be weird, so I didn't.
Starting point is 00:19:58 I definitely should have. Why not? You should have, yeah. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. How many other opportunities are you going to have to hug the Harrison twins in the parking lot? That's very true. I feel like when it's there, you got to go for it.
Starting point is 00:20:10 Missed the opportunity, Kelly. Thank you, Kelly. I appreciate the phone call. So, yeah, a lot of people like Corey Price that grew up in Lexington, Marcia, Johnny Versace, big night for him last night. Yeah, Corey's been having fun. He keeps, you know, we got my boy that we found out pretty quickly last night. But in the most Corey Price fashion, he's sending me, like, elementary school,
Starting point is 00:20:28 pictures of this guy. I don't need to see this dude's fourth grade report card but that's how much digging Corey's done. I got to tell you a quick story. And when I start telling the story it may not mean anything but just hang on. Hang on for the end of the story. Baltimore Orioles catcher James McCann
Starting point is 00:20:45 took a 95-mile-hour fastball and his nose yesterday. Broke's nose, he's got black eyes. Well, they stuffed some gau up in his nose and he played the rest of the game. played eight innings after getting hit by a 95-mile-hour fastball. In his face, that enough is a good story.
Starting point is 00:21:06 Yeah. There's a bit. After the game's show. My goodness. His face is destroyed, and he kept going. That looks like the guy's face that would have looked like if you would have punched the back last night. Yeah. But there's more of the story.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Yeah. James McCann's wife is Jessica Cox from Campbellsville, Kentucky. Oh, really? Yes. Okay. You might ask, Shannon, I wonder how they met. She's from Campbellsville, and he went to the University of Arkansas. Well, I'll tell you, and I have permission to tell this story.
Starting point is 00:21:30 It's a good story. Jessica was dating a young man that went to play baseball at Arkansas. Okay. His roommate was James McCann. Ooh. The boyfriend brought James back to Campbellsville for a weekend. Bad move. The rest is history.
Starting point is 00:21:49 He's still your girl. That's what happened, huh? But how would you like if your roommate stole your girl? Well, I don't know. You've got to be careful where you take your girl. running around, I guess. Especially in those, you know, those years when you're in college. I don't know much about James McCann, but after last night he's a bad dude.
Starting point is 00:22:04 No kidding. I know he's with the White Sox, I think, for a time, maybe even the Mets. He's been in the Big Leaks for a while. We went to the University of Arkansas, came back to Campbell's Village's roommate, went back home with a new girlfriend. That's impressive. I don't know what's more impressive, though. That or the fact that he played after getting hit the break in the nose.
Starting point is 00:22:24 I was watching something on YouTube. you get random videos that come up on YouTube of Nolan Ryan, I guess, when he pitched, and he got hit in the face by a, like, I guess was a bouncer that came back, hit him in the face, busted his lip. And he went ahead and threw like another seven innings after that with blood running down his chin and like on his jersey and everything. And I said to myself, stuff like that just doesn't happen.
Starting point is 00:22:44 Like players these days just aren't that tough. And you tell me that story that happened yesterday. Nolan Ryan is maybe one of the toughest men alive. If you look at his stats, most no hitters, most one hitters, most two hitters, most three hitters, most three hitters, most strikeouts, and you know what? He never won a Syung Award. Really?
Starting point is 00:23:00 Yes. He pitched for like 50 years. I know. One of the greatest pitchers of baseball history. He started his career in the 60s and ended in the 90s. Sometimes these stats about the pitchers, I guess they're true, but they seem a little unbelievable. He threw 2,000 pitches that game.
Starting point is 00:23:14 They didn't take them out. Yeah. What we're talking about weird baseball stats. I'm saving this for a slow day during the summer. I've had it in my notes. This is for you, you're a baseball guy. Okay. There's only been two players in the history.
Starting point is 00:23:26 History of Major League Baseball, whose last name was Moyer. M-O-Y-E-R. Yeah. Ed Moyer and Jamie Moyer. Jamie Moyer, I think it's still pitching. He's 60 years old now. So there's the only two guys' last name is Moyer. But wait, there's more.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Ed Moyer died on November 18, 1962. Guess when Jamie Moyer was born? 1962. November 18, 1962. Wow. I love stuff. Isn't that kind of weird? It kind of is.
Starting point is 00:23:56 Isn't that like the whole Lincoln Kennedy? Yeah, that's true. All the coincidence is we linking again. So at least I guess we got to slide that little fact in there. Who's next, Matt? Who we got next? Blake, go ahead, Blake. Hey, guys.
Starting point is 00:24:11 I just want to say I went to the Friday night, the first night of TVT, and it was awesome. And we went out to that new restaurant Los Palms over there. And most of the team was out there afterwards. And they were having a great time. And my wife and I were talking about it, like, how much fun do you think just the team? I guess Mario would know more than anyone, but Mario, how much fun is the team having?
Starting point is 00:24:33 Because they got to experience, like, what it's like to be back and rough, and then even, like, an away game at Louisville. It's just been so much fun to watch. And I wonder, you know, what is the team saying as a whole? Are they just loving every single minute of it or what's going on in their head? Yeah, pretty much they love it. The experience that they have, they get to relive, you know, their old times. A lot of these guys, it's memories for them.
Starting point is 00:25:00 They're up till 2, 3 a.m. in the morning talking about their memories playing with Kentucky and the things that they used to do. So I would say it's a big journey for them to reminisce on their memories, man. They're really enjoying the process of it. And they're embracing it. They've always embraced it, but now you're seeing them embrace it. You see Willie Collie Stein pull up with the L's down T-shirt after the game yesterday. So they're really embracing the culture and just reliving great memories, I would say. say so. And for guys like Sistina, like you said, the season didn't end the way we wanted to
Starting point is 00:25:35 with COVID. He didn't get to play in the postseason at all. Killing Grady, the season didn't end the way he wanted to. Even Brendan, Canada, for crying out loud, it didn't end the way he wanted to. So these guys, they get a chance to appreciate kind of what the March Madness environment is all about around here. If I'm not mistaken, Grady didn't even get to play Louisville. It was the year they, COVID maybe canceled the game. They switched the opponent, I think. Western Kentucky played that year. I know Willie in his post-game comments last night. atmosphere last night is why he committed to a lot familiar. He's like, I'm actually glad Louisville
Starting point is 00:26:04 made it to this stage of the tournament because when we got the bracket, this is the reason we were playing to get them one more time. You mentioned my guy Brennan Canada. You guys didn't see this because you were at the game, but I don't like how they outed what his payout is for this TBT tournament. What do you mean they outed? They showed the breakdown of
Starting point is 00:26:20 like who gets paid what. Did they on TV? On TV. Billy, you saw this too, and they had like everybody's like what they make and then like in his own little category, they had Brennan Canada, $15,000. Like was the lowest payout of everybody else. Yeah, he's getting something. There you go.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Like, why are they going to say that? Like, why are they going to put that on there? Come on. They did attack him with that a little bit. It had his name, and then it said other players, head coach G. He was the only one named with his salary. Yeah. I felt like it wasn't fair to climb out like that. No, come on.
Starting point is 00:26:49 But you know what? He's getting some. He got the free throw, the winning free throw. That's true. What do you mean? Don't play. Got a game winner in the first game. Got the Elam ending point.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Did he had the shoes on? The Pumas. Because you get extra money. Oh, that's right. If you have the extra money, you get extra $1,000 if you score the Eam Point. Give me those shoes. All right, well, take our break. Come back.
Starting point is 00:27:07 Go to the phone lines, 859-2-2-287. That's the Clark's Pubbushop phone number. We're looking for our, well, Marsha was our Don Franklin call of the day. No doubt. Johnny Versace was 1A caller of the day. Co-calls of the day. Don Franklin call the day. All right, we're right back.
Starting point is 00:27:21 This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games,
Starting point is 00:27:53 from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants. answer. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee.
Starting point is 00:28:23 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. I bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do. So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast.
Starting point is 00:29:06 How hard can it be with the Adamia Riva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Starting point is 00:29:31 Wait, what sex? at 45. How hard can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy? That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears or tears of laughter, and dive into it unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of My Cultura Podcast Network available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Jay Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio
Starting point is 00:30:08 presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Don't step on T.J. It got me. It's really important, especially today after the assault that happened on one of our members of KSR. Drew, call T.J, because he'll make them pay. Hey, do your home ownership goals include buying a brand new home this year? Stockton
Starting point is 00:30:24 Mortgage has your back. Stockton offers construction loans to help make your housing dreams happen. Go to Stockton.com to get started. And Stockton Mortgage also boasts an impressive 13,700 5-star reviews. See what Rodney has to say about it. Here's what Rodney had to say, Shannon. Yeah, Rodney, what's up?
Starting point is 00:30:39 I'm going to use my Rodney voice. Very pleased with all the help and support I received. Thanks again for all your help and support throughout this process. You're kind of like Matt Jones. You only have like one or two voices. That was basically Mitch McConnell was Rodney. See what Mitch McConnell has to say about it. Very pleased.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Find your home. Let's knock the mortgage take care of the rest. Stockton Mortgage, NMLS, 8259, 8259, 8-802-287. That's our Clark's Publish Out phone number. Who we got, Matt? Patty, go ahead, Patty. Hey, this Patty Evans from Campbellsville, and I just want to say that we were at the Wisconsin game in 2015,
Starting point is 00:31:19 and I moat forever, and any time a car passed in, and they had a Wisconsin license plate, I hated them. So last night, I know it's pretty bad, But last night, when Aaron Harrison hit that winning shot, he just took the sting out of that Wisconsin game. So I'm so glad you enjoyed it. There we go. Thank you, Patty.
Starting point is 00:31:44 Appreciate it very much. What kind of crowd do you think Lafamil will have in Philadelphia? Because the crowds have been great at Rupp Arena. It was obviously super last night at Freedom Hall. What kind of crowd do you think they'll have it in Philly? It's hard to say. I know there's a lot of people in the Northeast. You know, it's so easy to get around up there.
Starting point is 00:31:58 Maybe they'll really get behind it and embrace it. You know, we played in Philly. Was that just last year when we went up there? Yes. I mean, that was a good turnout. It's just I don't know how much people care about TBT. Clearly no one cares about it as much as I do because I'm the biggest law-familia fan that's ever walked this earth.
Starting point is 00:32:12 But I hope people can make that commitment, and I'll be jealous of anyone who gets to pull it off. I'm happy that this is from the A-Bin Glass Tech Machine. I'm happy that this tournament in Louisville has taken Drew's focus off of Arkansas. I haven't even mentioned Arkansas all summer. But I wanted to mention the fact that I guess Cala Perry said something about Big Z today? Yeah, I was trying to read that.
Starting point is 00:32:32 It looked like he said Big Z is not allowed to shoot threes. I didn't read the, it just came out before the show. I was trying to play catch-up on that. If that's the case, I feel bad for Big Z. That's what he does. Yeah, was Calipari at Big Z's first game at Ruff Arena? Did he miss what it happened? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:48 I mean, that's another case of coaching malpractice, if that really is what he said, and if that's what he's trying to do and not let that guy step out and hit some three. Well, I hope that happens for Arkansas. Because of me, why would we want him to shoot? That's true. Yeah, let him stay down inside when they play us for sure. Cal did tweet last night that he watched the whole LaFamillion game congratulating his guys.
Starting point is 00:33:07 You know what? That's his era. Yeah. So it's cool of him that he's falling along. Well, if we talk about that, what if he just showed up last night? How do we, he's there to support the Kentucky team. How do we? I'd be shocked if he showed up last night, just given the situation. Even though those are his former guys, doesn't feel like, you know, he'd want to try to take any of the spotlight off those guys by being there. Well, the fact that it was in Louisville, not Lexington, I thought, man, I wasn't going to be surprised if all of a sudden the camera panes over, and there he is sitting there.
Starting point is 00:33:35 Cows there. Cows there. Was Pope there last night? No Pope. Mark Fox. I saw Mark Fox. I guess Pope could have been there. I didn't see him. I didn't see every person there. I didn't see every person there. I didn't see every person sitting with the team. Because most of the team, were all the guys there? It looked like a lot of them. They were a little far from me, but I could see up there. Andrew Carr, I think it's a car crease. I mean, there was a Lamont Butler. There was a big group. You know, we mentioned this briefly the other day. But it's the one thing I think more people have kind of approached me about Travis Perry's shooting numbers that are coming out.
Starting point is 00:34:04 It's crazy. Legendary. 59 three-pointers from the corner in a row. He's going to be special. And three straight days of hitting 100 free throws in a row for three straight days. I mean, that has grabbed people's attention. And the system he's going to be in. I mean, Mark Pope's system, it's perfect for players like Travis Perry.
Starting point is 00:34:22 So I'm excited to see what he's going to do next season. I'm not saying he's going to be the next Red Sheppard. Maybe he might be better. I mean, we don't know. We honestly don't know. But he's up for a special year. Yeah, he said in the interview last week, yeah, I got a little hot. Yeah, I'd say 100 for 100 is pretty hot.
Starting point is 00:34:38 That's pretty scorching hot. We get interviews today with Trent Noah, Kobe Braia, and Jackson Robinson. So the players are good guys. Yeah. I'm going to head over there after this and do some talking with some more cats. And Trent and Noah is going to wear number nine. He's going to wear number nine. I think we all know what that little salute the number nine.
Starting point is 00:34:55 I think exactly we know what that means. I think that's awesome. You know, and he said something earlier this summer that we didn't get enough attention. His family has had UK football season tickets for 62 years. 62 years his family have had UK football season tickets. That's the most I've heard of anybody having season tickets that long. Yeah, obviously a long-time Katz fan, as we already knew. I'm looking forward to talking to him today.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Last week with Travis Perry, Travis told us their roommates and how going through it together in pretty similar spots has really helped each other, knowing they got to do a little extra work being freshmen, put an extra time. I think they're making each other better. Well, he's a guy, the two, that I think fits better in Stoops, I mean, in Pope's system, rather than Cal's system. You know, maybe he wouldn't going to be a good fit when Cal was here. But now that Pope's here, I think Trent Noah can find a spot where he can get on the floor
Starting point is 00:35:47 and be helpful. Trent Noah was going to be at South Carolina if Cal was here. He didn't get a phone call, so he certainly has a better opportunity. And same for Travis Perry with Pope's offense, getting open shots. Send me insane. You know, I don't know that he'll contribute a lot right away. Well, I'll see what he can do athletically in defense. But a guy that can shoot at that clip, if you just put him out there, you can't leave him.
Starting point is 00:36:05 That's right. He can be useful. So I'm excited to see just how much run they get right away as freshmen. 859-2-8-7. Who's next, Matt? Freebird. Try it again, Free Bird. Hey, I'm back, fellas.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Sorry about that. I'm telling you. I would be in Paris to be a Louisville fan right now. and if I'm the coach alone I tell his voice do not to act like that or they're going to rate so many steps they're going to pew and that
Starting point is 00:36:34 Anka Chupac or whatever his name is What a classless Buccoe. There we go. Good word. Wasn't sure where we're going to go with that. I don't think those guys are running bleachers though If you're on the alumni team Like there's only so much
Starting point is 00:36:51 That you're willing to listen to from your head coach Groomman. Yeah. If I'm a grown man, I'm not going out there running the bleachers because I spit on somebody. Well, and their season's over. They're done. They won't play again until next year. They're done.
Starting point is 00:37:01 They're done. They're going home now. I'm going to watch it on TV. 859-2802-287. That's our Clark's Publish out phone number. Let's get another call up, man. Who we got? Jay, go ahead, Jay.
Starting point is 00:37:11 Hey, guys. You know, last night to find for me was like being a U.K. fan in Louisville. And, you know, outside of Rupp, I have more memories of Freedom Hall. I was disappointed a little bit of one at the YUM Center, but I was glad going into Freedom Hall because, We always had that away game or the home game we played at Freedom Hall back in the day. I would go to practice as a kid. That was my second favorite game to watch UK in Freedom Hall.
Starting point is 00:37:36 It's my number one. I was at the Sparks game. Oh, yeah, I was there. This is Jane. This is Jane Lyndon, by the way, one of our great callers. Yeah, for guys like you, man, last night was pretty special. So, hey, I hope the TBT kind of becomes something. I hope we win it this year because it's a cool way to tie together.
Starting point is 00:37:55 They're all these one and done players. The last thing I wanted to say, great job to all you, why Matt's been gone, especially my guy, Mario. Yes, Jay. Thank you. I appreciate it. Thank you for calling in, by the way. Jay and Lyndon, we're our good ones.
Starting point is 00:38:07 You know, the TB team that was here a couple years ago that Boogie was on, you know, they didn't even make it out of Lexington. They got beat locally. They played at Douglas. It wasn't even. Fred Devinas High School, yeah. They played at Douglas. I don't even remember that team.
Starting point is 00:38:21 Yeah. I didn't know that was actually a thing. Well, Twani and the guy, I don't. know who was a part of the last time around. I don't know exactly, but whoever is leading this with Twani, Sam Malone, the coaches, they put a lot more energy into it that's ever been behind it. Brittany over there behind the scenes, I mean, they're treating this like a professional operation, whereas before a few alumni teams have been thrown together, I don't know how much they're really into it, but as we're seeing, this one has been done right. Everybody gives 20
Starting point is 00:38:49 all the praise, it seems like everybody's like 20 did this, 20 put this together, 20 planned it, 20 scheduled everything. He's the one when I got the players. So kudos to him and you're right. Like Jay said, I hope it now continues. You know, have this team that gets together, these former players that want to come back and want to be a part of this team. They win a million dollars. I think it would be pretty easy
Starting point is 00:39:10 to be back next year and then a couple others will likely join them. All right, 859-2-287. We'll take our final break. Come back our final segment. We're at the Lexington Tennis Challenger presented by Meridian Wealth Management. This is a U.S.TA Pro-Cuit of event. They'll be playing all day out here. You can buy a pass for $10 and come out and enjoy the
Starting point is 00:39:28 tennis all day long. It's a beautiful complex here at the Hillary J. Boone Tennis Center here at UK. Got a lot of updates out here. They've got hospitality tents. They've got food trucks. You guys said the best bathroom you've ever seen. It would not in your house. That's what Billy said. Yeah. He raving about the bathroom. Marine wealth management. That's our neighbors downtown at the studio, right? It is. It's right. I'm right. I bet you said that. I didn't even forgot about that. You're right about that. There are neighbors in their office complex. I think I see an open parking spot, but no, it's one of theirs.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Well, we'll take our break, come back and wrap it up here. 859-280-2287. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Starting point is 00:40:55 This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff, like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this guy, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:41:12 Come on out. Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, Brett, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to The Cliffer Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds.
Starting point is 00:41:38 Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the game. playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the
Starting point is 00:42:02 lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the bar like, you go through a training camp with that, I said, you figure, it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Starting point is 00:42:35 podcasts. All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Our final segment here live at the Hillary J. Boone Tennis Complex at the University of Kentucky, the site of the Lexington Tennis Challenger, presented by Meridian Wealth Management, a U.S.TA pro-circuit event. You know, they haven't seen these gals have been warming up on the court beside us. And then on the sidewalk in front of us, there was another. young tennis player that was doing some drills.
Starting point is 00:42:58 Did you see the drill sheet? Oh, yeah. I was about to ask you, and it's bad radio because you can't actually see, but she had a person that was just throwing tennis balls left, right, left, right. She had to scoop them up quickly and throw them back to the guy. You think you could do any of that? Oh, yeah. You got the agility. Oh, no doubt. Yeah. We'll do it.
Starting point is 00:43:15 Here you go. Mario's video idea. Maybe next year. That'd be good content. All right. Who's this final segment sponsored by Sun, Drew? It is sponsored by our good friends at UKFCU. That's UK Federal Credit Union. That's I do my banking. Everyone should do their banking. I love their app. You can pay bills, check balances with a touch of a button.
Starting point is 00:43:32 Just had a nine-month CD mature over there. That was pretty awesome. Or if you're like Matt and you're traveling, you can use it to locate the nearest fee-free ATM. UKFCU is always with you and available. And the mobile app just makes banking better. That's UK Federal Credit Union. Membership eligibility required, federally insured by NCUA. From the Aviation Glass Text Machine, please give a shout out to law familiar assistant coach Jazz Ferguson. Yep.
Starting point is 00:43:56 Jazz is from Louisville but played college basketball at IUS in New Albany. He is the IUS all-time leading scorer. How about that? I didn't know that, little Jazz Ferguson. One more from the Aviation Glass Tech Machine. Your namesake, Ryan Howard, just started her Olympic three-on-three game at 1130. So they're playing the three-on-three tournament in the Olympics. It started just a couple minutes ago.
Starting point is 00:44:21 Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting home watching more of the Olympics. I watched every minute I could up until. last night. I went to Louisville. I'm looking forward to to get back on the couch and seeing what's next. Did we talk about this
Starting point is 00:44:30 yesterday, and maybe this was common knowledge, but the USA women haven't lost a game since 1992? What are we? What in the world? 55, 56 straight now?
Starting point is 00:44:40 55. Oh yeah, they won again. So 56 game winning streak. I get that, you know, we're a little better over here in America. I understand we should be the favorite every year,
Starting point is 00:44:48 but to not lose since Barcelona, 1992, that is insane. Pretty crazy. Credit a winning streak. Give a goal. Did Jokevich Nidal happen yesterday, or is that happening today? It was yesterday, and to be honest, I didn't see a minute of it, even though I was excited about it.
Starting point is 00:45:03 That's a pretty big matchup early on in the Olympics, Djokovic playing Nadal. We'll see what happened. All right, 859-280-2-287. We've got some callers want to get on before we get out of here. So who we got, Matt? Terry, go ahead, Terry. Yeah, Jokovic won that in straight sets. Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:23 All right, I got a couple of football things. I know the Lafamia has taken up most of it. But Ryan, has Dante or Dane? I know Berrien and Dane are the Bell cows at the receiver. But give us a couple of guys that are not tight ends that we need to look forward to maybe be in the slot or get some reps that people aren't really talking about. And who is going to be our place kicker this year? And I'll hang up and listen.
Starting point is 00:45:52 Place kicker, I don't know. As far as a receiver, Anthony Brown Stevens, I think he's going to be the slot guy. He'll be on the field a lot. They loved him last year. He'll be on the field a lot. And I'm drawing a blank. The freshman that's behind Dane, big, tall guy. They really like him and the way he's developed.
Starting point is 00:46:09 I'm sorry, I'm drawing a blank. I'll have to look it up and maybe get it back to you tomorrow, Terry. But, like he said, Dane and Beryon, Lord willing, they stay healthy. They're going to get the majority of the receptions and the reps this year for sure. Yeah, Brown Stevens is a good answer. Macklin added to the receiver room. I don't know. We mentioned this before with this video game.
Starting point is 00:46:30 I'm worried it's set in the wrong expectations. But Anthony Brown Stevens is a great slot on the video game. So hopefully, EA Sports knows what they're doing, and he has a big season coming ahead. But, yeah, I'd say that's the name in that room. Who's next, man? Let's get another caller up. Mo, go ahead, Mo. Hey, you were talking about Trent and Noah having his family having all those season tickets for 62 years?
Starting point is 00:46:51 Yes, sir. Unless I'm mistaken, his grandfather is Perky Bryant, who played up there in the early 60s, and he took over the head coaching job of Whitley County in 1965, and I played for him down there, 65, and 66. It may be. Yeah, that would make sense why if he was a coach at Kentucky, why they've had season tickets every year since. Well, he was a mean sucker, too. Thanks a lot, guys. All right, I appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:47:19 Thanks for the phone call. The kicker's Alex Rainer, by the way. Alex Rainer. Oh, he's back. That's right, I forgot. He came back. Yeah. The kicker from last year. He really had a good year.
Starting point is 00:47:27 Kind of didn't get talked about much, but he had a really good year. Yeah, finally some consistency in the kicking. 859-2-287. Matt, who's next? Super Dave. Go ahead, Super Dave. You're going with Super Mario. Hey guys, how y'all doing?
Starting point is 00:47:42 Good, how you doing, Dave? I'm doing good. From Louisville, and I didn't get to go to the game, but enjoyed it. I got a lot of family that's Louisville fans, so I'm not going to rub it in too much because I don't do that. But I wanted to ask you about something that was in the Louisville paper yesterday about the Kentucky football. It's coach Stoops upset with the NIL and the way it is.
Starting point is 00:48:08 He said he basically feels like he's by himself trying to support the whole NIL thing and everything that they're trying to do. Just want to hear y'all's comments on that. Thank you. Appreciate it. Yeah. We didn't really talk much about Stoop's comments where he said that, where he's like, you know, he's kind of tired of the recruiting hassle.
Starting point is 00:48:29 Because you've got to recruit freshman. You have to recruit transfer players, and you have to re-recruit your own players. You don't think Dion Walker had chances to leave. You've got to re-recruit those guys to stay back. And Stoops did kind of say some things that made it sound like he's kind of tired of messing with and dealing with it. Yeah, he spoke again yesterday. He kind of cleaned up the comments from the spring that came out. But, yeah, he's talking about how he has to do a lot of fundraising on his own.
Starting point is 00:48:51 It's just a new part of the job that these guys never had to do before. It used to be you know, you got your team, you're coaching now. He's mentioned, you know, I've got to go out and meet people about every night just to make sure we're still getting money to keep a team together. And that's not including meeting with my own players and re-recruiting them at the end of the year. Yeah, I think that's the hassle where you've got to meet with boosters and donors and people trying to get some more NIL money so you can give up to your new players that are coming in. And I think Nick Saban said as much, that's one of the reasons why he got out.
Starting point is 00:49:19 He was kind of not into that and didn't want to do all that extra stuff you got to do to be the head coach now of a program. Yeah, Saban said, you know, Saban's been out of the long time. He's the greatest. And he said the conversations in the year stopped being about football. It was just how much money am I getting. He's right. That's not why I'm here. I'm here to coach, not sit here and handle contracts and make sure these guys get paid.
Starting point is 00:49:38 Not against them paying. He's just saying that's not what my job I want it to be. I want to give a little PSA. Antonio Reeves is having a basketball camp this Saturday. It's local. You can probably look up on his social media, but he is having a basketball camp. I think some of the current players are going to be out there
Starting point is 00:49:56 helping with them at this camp. So just check it at. I'm sure it would be fun event. They'll probably have a great time. So Antonio Reeves having a basketball camp on Saturday. And then Shannon, you and I are loading up. We're getting ready to go do a TV commercial. The Moonshine Trail, which you mentioned last week.
Starting point is 00:50:12 I didn't know what we were supposed to talk about it or not, but hey, you know what? People are going to see it eventually. That's right. Have you practiced your... words at all that you're supposed to say. You told me we have a script we're supposed to know. I looked at it the first time when you just showed it to me.
Starting point is 00:50:25 Yeah. Okay. Well, this is, we're going to be here all day then, right? So we have lines, we have to memorize. Yeah, that's how a commercial works. I mean, unless I thought, I thought, I thought, I thought I had to go sit on a big donut and eat donut like we did for our Super Bowl commercial. We'll take it line by line, I'm sure, like that. Hopefully it doesn't take as long as it did to shoot that Super Bowl commercial. And so we're going to Winchester.
Starting point is 00:50:46 That's right. Yeah. Shoot this commercial. for the moonshine trail. You got a haircut? Oh, yeah, I'm ready to go. He's ready to go. See, I had to make sure I look good for the commercial.
Starting point is 00:50:56 Yeah, I'm lucky. I took a shower this morning. I haven't got a haircut. Your hair's looking good, right? It is. All right. Tom Hart is back in the big chair tomorrow. His last day.
Starting point is 00:51:05 It's been so much fun with Myron and Tom filling in and our guest host we've had. And then Matt comes back on Monday. He comes back actually to the United States, I think maybe tomorrow. State side tomorrow. State side tomorrow. But he's not back in Canada.
Starting point is 00:51:18 Kentucky till like Friday or Saturday. And he'll be back on the air. It's been a long couple months. You get a little excited? I'm ready for Matthew Harper Jones to come back. You've only got to host what? Two more shows? Right?
Starting point is 00:51:30 One more. One more. That's right. I'm here on Friday. That's right. Thanks for the Lexon Tennis Challenger. Thanks to Meridian Wealth Management for having us out. Come on out.
Starting point is 00:51:38 It's a great tennis tournament. You'll enjoy it. Even if you don't like tennis, it's fun to watch. It's really entertaining. For Ryan, for Drew, for Shannon, for Mario. For Matt, back in the studio. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
