Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of
stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
A rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.

mortgage now here's matt jones some heart sitting in for matt jones uh final go-round in this guest
hosting spot which has been an absolute blast throughout the summer even though i took more days off than
Shannon over the course of my required time. Drew and Ryan and Mario or in Lexington,
Shannon is in Louisville. We just had Tim Rebley from the Secret Service on it. I think the
feedback is really, I don't know, it's kind of impressive given some of the details that he
shared, especially that agents, I couldn't tell if you were saying that Secret Service agents
or local agents were supposed to be on the roof, but quote, it was too hot. So those guys
bailed on that assignment and that nearly got Trump killed.
Too hot.
True.
A little too hot.
Those chicken nuggets are going to get hot.
What else did you get with the Tyson Foods gift bag?
By the way, shout out to Tyson Foods.
Like product placement too, like we're talking about the company right now.
You got a cooler?
I would actually say not shout out to them.
I would like to send this back.
This cooler is worthless.
It's got an Arkansas logo on it.
Don't need that.
Ryan Lemon here actually wants to eat the nuggets.
I'm not going to let him.
We have to draw the line somewhere.
I'm offended.
This feels like a declaration of war, to be honest.
When are we going to start sending them stuff?
That's my question.
Send them some KFC back.
No, we're not pen pals.
We're not going to engage in this behavior.
We're going to send them their trash right back where it came from, Springfield, Arkansas.
And we want to be left alone.
They keep saying Kentucky fans are obsessed with them.
We don't think about them, but we have gigantic packages showing up in our doorstep.
I remember Francis got Key writing about the time that the Nuggets arrived and how that was the Declaration of War.
It was a great song he ended up writing.
But is it, do you feel like this is from the corporation itself or an individual who's sending it?
Oh, no, it's got the address on there.
I thought, because we do have some Tyson plants in Western Kentucky.
I thought maybe some Kentucky people just sending it over keeping it in the bluegrass.
But no, this is straight out of.
and headquarters in Arkansas.
I like, by the way, that we're glossing over that this is essentially pig-shaped chicken
that we got here, right?
The razor-back-shaped chicken.
The chicken nuggets are the shaped-like-pigs.
What are the nuggets called?
They're called the razor-back.
Razor-back nuggets.
They say woo-pig-suy at the top.
Almost vomited, just reading that.
Yeah.
Fully-cooked-bredded-shaped chicken patties.
Chicken-shaped like pigs.
That's what everybody wants to eat.
Wow.
Yeah, I feel like you're more offended about the woo pig nuggets than you were when you got punched in the chest.
I am.
I'm actually a lot more offended.
How do you feel, Drew?
How does the chest feeling today?
I'm a little distracted by this new active war.
This is a busy week.
We're just getting blonde-sided left and right here.
Do you think John Cala Perry sent him?
Do you think Cal sent him himself?
Do you think Cal misses us?
That's what this is?
He's wanting us to reach back down.
He's too busy signing five-star point cards.
He is.
working man he's busy doing that here too you know i can see him they're sitting in their
development meaning like hey make sure you send some of these to my great friends at ksr
live during the show send him some razor back nuggets with my love
if we get wings day here we have our own wings yeah true this this here we got plenty of wings
that are if cow wants to call in and and either take credit for it or explain himself he's welcome
to this would be the time to do it before matt comes back in town true yeah he ain't doing it
when Matt's here.
That's, we know that.
That was another possible suspect you might have on the show today because you didn't
tell us who it was.
We thought, oh, maybe he's going to have Cal come on.
You know, I thought about sending out the ass, but then I figured, we're going to
talk about his woo pig nuggets.
So is that a good usage of his time?
Mario, I've been so impressed.
Go ahead, Ryan.
Well, before we get off your secret service guy, I always felt like secret service guys were
like James Bond, like 007 guys, you know, always in the background.
wearing black suits black sunglasses hat hands kind of you know tucked into their their
their vest it's always kind of like their secret secret singers like james bond guys smooth
smooth yeah is your friend like that yeah yeah but they are i think they're more normal i mean
they're as normal as they can be for someone who has agreed via the constitution to take a bullet
for another person right i mean that's that is not normal behavior but
he is incredibly committed.
I remember, you know, when we were in school, he would go for a run.
And I'd be going for a beer, and he'd be going for a run.
And we'd say, Tim, where are you running today?
And he'd say, yeah, I'm not sure yet.
Well, what do I mean?
Like most people who go for a run, especially nowadays, you're putting your Apple Watch,
you know, I'm going to run five miles and I want to do it in this amount of time.
We're going to run 10, whatever.
Now, here's what he would do.
He'd say, I'm going to run that direction.
until I get tired and I feel like I can't run any farther,
and then I'm going to run back.
And that would be his run for the day.
Like it was just, and he was also a division one wrestler,
so that's like next level stuff too.
I don't think he got into this,
but when you knew him in college,
did he know, like, Secret Service is what he wanted to do?
Obviously, he running that much.
He wanted something in that kind of career line,
but at that point, was he thinking that far as?
Yeah, he knew he was going into law enforcement.
I think Secret Service was a goal,
and presidential detail is like, all right, this is the cream of the crop.
This is as big as you can get.
But you don't know if you can make it there, right?
There's so many steps you've got to go to.
And I've talked to him at nauseam about that job because it's just fascinating.
And he had said previously that one of the coolest things about being in the Secret Service,
like one of the big thrills that you get on a semi-regular basis is, you know,
when you're with the president and Marine One comes in to land, I think, on the South Lawn.
I think the South Lawn is where Marine One,
I couldn't want.
That's a helicopter.
And they come in, and there's always three of them.
And as they fly over DC, they kind of do this leapfrog thing,
where the guy in the back goes to the front,
and they play this game as countermaneuvers.
So if there is a threat, A, you don't know which of the three choppers
that the president is on.
And B, they're constantly shuffling.
And he said, you know whether or not,
and like you're sitting there.
So you know whether or not the president is on your chair.
chopper or not, yet there's still this thrill because the way it would go down is the first chopper
would approach the law. And if the president's not on it, then they pull up last second and peel
over the rooftops in D.C. And they're like, it's as close as you can get. I mean, it is,
it is Hollywood. Like, Hollywood's not even real compared to what these guys do every day. So I just
think that job is fascinating. Maybe, maybe more so than nuggets. All right, Mario, your job has
like taken a leap this summer with your time around La Familia, right?
So when did you first kind of feel ingrained with those guys after following them and being around the program?
I would say like some of our relationships with the guys, some of my relationships with the guys on La Familiar really comes from my podcast, having some of those guys on my podcast.
And having given them the platform to tell their stories, that was the main thing with that.
And then, you know, it just develops.
You know, every time I go to an event, you know, I meet, you know, more members of the La Familiar Squad.
And for me, it's like, these are players that I've grown up watching, you know,
Nate Sistina, I went to college with Nate Sistina.
So I remember him playing and Harrison Twins and Tyler Ullis.
So, you know, I would say, you know, our relationship, you know,
me and LaFamilia is just, it's growing.
And like I said, I'm a fan.
Like I'm really just a big fan that's getting the, you know,
sit court side and get all this great content and go from there.
Tom, he's being modest.
When Mario's in the building, they all walk up to him.
They walk past me and everyone else.
The other day, I look up and he's just talking to Chris Paul.
I'm like, you go from talking to Ryan Lemon in the morning to sitting with Chris Paul at night.
Mario has become quite the star around here.
I would say that there's a cop to be made.
Ryan to Chris Paul would be like Nino Nuggets to Secret Service.
That's fair.
Very fair.
There's a common theme.
I think what's really cool about your podcast, though, is either your personality or your pro,
or combination of both is getting these dudes to open up right like yeah getting them comfortable
where they share stuff that they've in some cases have never shared before never done what's the
coolest thing that you've learned um really that everybody's story's different that's probably the coolest
thing that i've learned you know me interviewing somebody uh i understand that you know the person is
sitting across from me has a totally different personality than the last person i interviewed so yeah
you know really the the the key for me is just making them comfortable i want i want to make everybody
comfortable that way we can get stories out and allow these guys you know women as well to tell
their stories and not feel like you know that they're their hold they have to hold something back
or whatever the case may be and i think you know my personality fits with it you know i i just let them
kind of have you know take over the platform i sit down and ask the questions it's not about me it's
about them and i really go from there and it's overall it's a blast for me it's something that i
love to do on the side and like i said it's built may be built remarkable relationships you know
with guys on the La Familiar Squad and everywhere else as well.
He just had Willie Colley Stahn.
I think that was a big one.
Yeah, Willie was a huge.
That was a huge one.
You know, he talked about rehab, which kind of got me off guard
because I wasn't expecting that.
You know, him just, you know, letting it loose on my platform.
But, you know, I'm just really honored to have the opportunity
to sit across some guys like that and let them tell their story
and me be a fan.
I like to think of myself as just a fan.
I don't know if you know this,
but Willie Collie Stein played high school.
football. No, he didn't.
Yes. No, he didn't.
Highlights are insane. You should have asked him about growing up in a lateh
of Kansas and playing high school football. They could have been a big thing.
Drew, I'm going to draw another comp.
You remember when the world shut down due to COVID
and when we were in Nashville for the SEC tournament.
And I told everybody that day, that day to buy stock in what?
Zoom.
Buy stock and Zoom is what I never even heard of Zoom in that moment.
I hadn't either. Didn't know what Zoom was.
and Tom said to buy stock in it.
Why did we take his advice?
We'd be set.
Why didn't I take my advice?
I didn't do it.
Buy stock in Mario.
Like, this guy's going to be a superstar.
This guy's on a rocket ship.
Yeah, I appreciate that.
Thank you, Tom.
Where do we get you on the podcast?
That's the real question, Tom.
Anytime.
Anytime.
I think we might be there.
I don't know this.
I guess I might be there for the home opener.
We got Southern Miss on.
Saturday night, right? Awesome.
Let's start. I mean, that's our time slot. We should be there.
We can do it. A couple days earlier. We can hang.
Here's a thing.
La Familiar's playing Friday in Philly. Is that right? They've got the Ohio State team.
Yes. What's Ohio State team named the Bucknuts?
Carmen's crew.
Carmen, Carman's crew featuring Jared Selinger.
Jared Solinger, a former UK villain who was at Freedom Hall.
Some UK fans were already talking a little trash before they'd already gotten past theville,
looking ahead to Carmen's crew.
Who else is recognizable on that team?
In the past, they've had a lot of former Buckeyes that Kentucky played in that Elite
game this year.
Yeah, they had all the guys from Thadmottisiancraft.
Tom kind of comes for all of us, and I think those guys have moved on.
Solinger is the big name.
The rest, I mean, he's the name, to be honest.
got a lot of guys that are still playing internationally.
A lot of them aren't even Ohio State anymore.
You got Boston College, UT Arlington, East Tennessee State.
So this team was formed as all former Buckeyes,
but I think as they've gotten older,
that's kind of become more other teams.
Are those games at the Pellestra?
We're at Drexel Place.
Can't think of the name of that.
Over Drexel place.
By the way, people don't know this.
It's actually the school's not named Drexel.
It's named for Dr. Exel, who was a villain back in the 20s,
Dr. Axel.
Ryan, you kind of believe that, don't you, Brian?
I believed it as soon as you came out of your mouth.
Like, really?
I've never heard that before.
Dr. Exel.
Oh, Dr. Exel.
Sounds like a villain.
Drexel.
I've got a villain in my sights.
I'm going to share it with you.
I had a terrible customer service experience,
and I'm going to go straight Marin when we return.
But we also need to do some drops, right?
We got any drops you want to do before we go to break?
Live read, yes.
I'll do one for you.
You know, every member of the secret.
surface. They've got their suit and they've got to have their sunglasses and you can get some
really good sunglasses at Shady Rays. They're a Kentucky independent American-owned company.
Start it right here. They have premium polarized shades for every activity and you can use the
promo code KSR for 50% off two or more pair in store with their flagship location at the summit
at Fritz Farm or online at shady raise.com. They have over 250,000 five-star reviews, Tom.
That's a lot of five stars. Check them out at shadyrays.com.
That's a lot of five stars.
Drew, Cal signed a five-star point card last week.
I don't know if you know that.
Kentucky Sports Radio.
He signed a lot of those here, Tom.
He signed a lot of those here.
All right.
Enjoy the nuggets.
We got more coming your way.
I'm going to rant after this on Kentucky Sports Radio.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending.
Opinions are flying.
And nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo.

the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories,

What's up, guys?
This is Clivert Taylor the 4th.
And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.

Quarterback on office blue with 42.

My mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.
Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Why is everyone obsessed with romance right now?
Like everyone.
Your co-worker who, quote unquote, doesn't read, is reading romance.
Your mom, book talk, the entire internet.
I'm Sanjana Basker.
I'm Tyler McCall.
And this is Radio 831.
a romance podcast.
The books, the tropes, the adaptations, the drama, the discourse.
And what all of it says about how we actually love, yearn, and obsess.
We're going to Wuthering Heights, which, for the record, is not a romance novel.
And yet it has haunted the romance genre for 200 years.
We're getting into dark romance, age gaps, certain Russian hockey players.
And sentient objects, in love, which is a thing.
That's the kind of conversation.
we're having every episode.
Listen to the Radio 831 podcast on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Right.
Come on, Drew.
Get it.
What's that?
Are you not singing?
No, I better not sing.
Okay.
Tom Hart's sitting in from my final day on KSR.
Maybe ever, I guess.
I had a moment last night.
You guys, you know the Reddit thread,
which M.I.
the
am I the what?
Am I the,
yeah,
whatever it is?
All right,
so you tell me
if I had a right
to be perturbed
by this last night.
I ordered pizza
for the family.
And I noticed,
and I don't want to call
out the company by name,
but it rhymes with
hello hushroom.
So I don't know
if you know that place.
Yeah.
I love the pizza.
The customer service
could go a long way.
Okay, so as I'm ordering the pizza,
it gives you an opportunity
to put in a tip online.
Now, to me, right off the bat, and I worked in the hospitality industry for a long time.
I worked in the restaurant industry.
Like, I am all about tips.
I over-tip 99% of the time.
But it's hard to present the tip before you've been presented with service, right?
Like me, I got cash in hand.
I show up, everything's great.
Boom, you're getting cash.
I'd rather not put up my card.
But I do it anyway, and I put it on the card.
And my assumption is I'm going to get good service.
I show up, there's a sign that says take out orders here, right?
You go straight up to the guy.
There's no confusion.
So you're bothering a waitress or you're bothering the bartender or you're bothering the kitchen.
No, no, pick them up right here.
Great.
Go up.
My guy is on his cell phone and can't be bothered to look up.
And I stand in front of him for a few minutes.
Not a few minutes, obviously, but, you know, whatever.
Finally looks up, hey, yeah, here's my name.
I'm picking up a pizza.
Oh, okay.
No problem.
He goes over to check on it.
He comes back and he's like, not ready yet.
It's going to be four minutes max.
Perfect.
Fine.
No problem.
I sit down on the stool, like right in front of the guy and I start watching beach volleyball, right?
By the way, Chase Bunninger was a McDonald's All-American of basketball.
Now he's playing beach volleyball.
Playing beach volleyball now.
Yeah, I saw that.
Unbelievable.
Anyway, so I'm watching beach volleyball.
I'm watching like men's water polo.
And I realize I'm lost in the Olympics.
Like I am just dialed in.
it's been maybe 15 minutes.
I turn back to the guy and I'm kind of like,
yo, four minutes was a while ago, right?
And he just kind of stares at me.
So I walk over to where the counter is for the kitchen
and I said, hey, I carry out order for Tom.
And the guy goes, oh, yeah, that's right here.
It had been ready for 11 minutes.
Am I right to be bothered by the fact that had just been sitting there
that he didn't do his job?
And I had already tipped on top of that.
or am I just being like an old man yelling at the clouds?
No, no, not at all, not all.
Especially if he gave you a timeline.
Time line aside, if it's just sitting there and he couldn't be bothered to go pick it up and hand it to you,
I'm completely on your side.
Mario, you're a different generation.
Like, how do you feel about this?
No, I'm on your side, Tom.
That's bad customer service right there.
You can't have that.
I'm sorry you had to tip before.
I'm not a big tippers.
That's why you're not.
You're not?
Okay.
He's 25 years old.
If you order a pizza online and it says fill out the tip, 10%, 15%, 20% other,
you're going other zeros across the board?
I'm probably going, depends on the mood I'm in, Tom.
I'll probably go 10% if I'm feeling generous.
I'm not a big fan of the delivery fee.
When you order online, they give you a delivery fee and then you add the tip.
I'm not a big fan of both of those.
I just say the delivery T is the tip.
The delivery fee is the tip.
So like I said, I'm not a big tipper.
So I'll probably go 10% on that.
Okay, I'm with you.
Like, you're, to me, you're not really providing a service
if you're just walking over to get the pizza and handing it to me.
You're not waiting on me when I'm sitting at a table, right?
I'm not relying on you to get refills.
It's takeout.
It's takeout.
Yeah, no.
But your big point, you gave him money ahead of time to give you good service.
You said you gave him a good tip.
I mean, you've already prepaid for him to turn around and grab that pizza,
which he could not be bothered to do.
He had too much going on.
I mean, he was on Instagram, right?
I mean, he was part checking out.
I don't know what he was checking out.
Some places are getting really bold, by the way, Tom, on tipping.
You know, it used to be 10, 15, 20, then it was 15, 18, 20.
Now, like, 20 is the bottom line.
Now it's like 20, 25, 30, 50% tips.
You want me to hand you my bank account?
Like, what do you?
I don't mind that if it's like a way to.
comes up to you and she hands you the thing and you have a chance to fill out the tip like you've provided a service where really bothers me is like you're at the airport and you buy a bottle of water or soda or candy bar before you get on your wife and they want a tip and they spin the thing around and they point to the tip what are you talking about i was the one that went got it off the thing and brought it to you
i mean i've talked about this they have the same thing at great american ballpark you go there watch a reds game you want to go get some nachos it's already there
You pick it up.
They don't give it to you.
You have to go select your water, whatever you want to eat.
You don't even ring.
You have to ring up yourself, and they still ask for a tip.
Now, the dude who brings me beer in my seat, I'm tipping that guy.
Sure, sure.
By the biggest tip he's going to get is the first beer, because then he's going to come find me when I'm ready for the second beer.
There you go.
And then he's going to make money on me that day.
Not if I'm walking all the way up there to get it myself.
Come on, Ryan.
I blame you.
Well, you know, we're seeing it now in drive-thru.
You go through McDonald's drive-thru and you use your credit card.
They hand you that's got the buttons on it.
They're staring right at you.
They want a tip of McDonald's.
Some.
Really?
What?
Drive-drive-thru.
This is now becoming a thing.
Drive-through tips.
Yep, drive-through tips.
Well, I've got another issue with McDonald's because the last time I stopped there and went through the drive-thru, it was like a Sunday night.
I was coming back from an event.
I think it was coming back from an Andy Kennedy, UAB basketball game.
And I stopped the one at Alabama, and I go through the drive-thru,
I placed my order and they said to me, oh, are you DoorDash?
I go, no, I'm not DoorDash.
They go, oh, we're only open for DoorDash.
What?
You're a drive-through.
You have the food ready.
All you have to do is run my credit card.
And I can't get it.
So what do you want me to park and order DoorDash and pay $3.50 for that guy to come
pick it up and walk it over to my window?
Yeah, really.
I had a moment recently.
I won't name the place because I really like it.
Do the rhyming thing.
Do the rhyming thing.
That'd be fine.
I'll probably be there in the next couple of days.
I better not.
I really like them.
It was just a bad, one rogue employee.
But I'm at a spot where you're supposed to get service,
and they weren't helping me.
So I got up and went to the bar,
and I was like, I just want to make sure I'm in an area that has a server.
I don't mind coming up here.
They're like, no, of course.
You have a server.
You don't have to come up here.
So then a little bit later, I needed something just absolutely wasn't happening.
So I walked back up to the bar and ordered, sit back down,
carried it over myself.
And I still would have tipped.
I'm never going to stiff anyone.
But she came over and brought the iPad at the end and set it in front of me.
And it was almost like her head was on my shoulder leaning over to watch because I was going to hit other and not do 20, 22 or 25, which are the options.
She was so into the iPad watching me type the number and sign.
I was like, this is the most you've done around me all night.
And I had to take it down to, I think it did 15 or 18 percent right there in front of her.
But, I mean, it was like there was so much pressure with her staring at me of what I was going to tip.
Did you go over your shoulder and say, you know, I went and got my last two beers at the bar myself, right?
You saw me do that?
Like, did you mention that?
Like, as an, not to be a jerk, but just says, so she understood why she wasn't getting?
I should have.
I'm a bit of a softie when it comes to those moments.
I should have done more because it was a little ridiculous that we just had to keep getting up from our table.
We would have sat at the bar if we just, if we need to do that.
But it was more so the, I'm going to sit here and stare at what you're writing down.
I thought was a little bit.
That's when you stare them right back in the eye, make it really uncomfortable for them, you know?
Like, here's your 15% deal with it.
Wow.
It's the pressure.
You get nervous if they're just looking over you.
Like, you'll get it.
You'll see what it is when I'll leave the place.
And they know who you are.
But I know that Drew's a softy because he got, he just got punched the other night.
He just got punched.
And he got punched by a waitress trying to get a better tip.
KSR continues after this.

And on my podcast, The Cliverts show,
I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.
Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app,
Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Why is everyone obsessed with romance right now?
Like everyone?
Your co-worker who, quote-unquote, doesn't read, is reading romance.
Your mom, book talk, the entire internet.
I'm Sanjana Basker.
I'm Tyler McCall.
And this is Radio 831, a romance podcast.
The books, the tropes, the adaptations, the drama, the discourse.
And what all of it says about how we actually love.
Love, yearn, and obsess.
We're going to Weathering Heights,
which, for the record, is not a romance novel.
And yet it has haunted the romance genre for 200 years.
We're getting into dark romance, age gaps, certain Russian hockey players.
And sentient objects.
In love, which is a thing.
That's the kind of conversation we're having every episode.
Listen to the Radio 831 podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Ryan, come on.
Everybody in the club hitting TFC.
Everybody.
It's everybody.
Everybody.
Everybody.
Everybody.
I really wish people could hear the music.
Tom Hart's hitting in for Matt Jones.
Guys, I've been fascinating by the Olympics.
Are you guys familiar with pommel horse guy?
pommel horse guy
I'm not
palma horse guy
okay so the men's
Olympic team
two nights ago
secured I think like
their first ever medal
I think they got a bronze
and it came down
to the final event
of the night
and they have a specialist
Olympian his name is
Stephen something
I can't pronounce
his last name
he has got glasses
he kind of looks like
he reminds me of
that former Georgia kicker
Rodrigo Blankenship
remember that guy
with the glasses
this guy was a gymnast at Penn State.
He's some sort of scientist slash engineer in real life
when he's not on the Olympic team.
And he qualified for the team just to do the pommel horse.
And he's cross-eyed.
So he makes his way to the pommel horse.
He makes some adjustments to the equipment.
And then he takes off his glasses and he hands him to a coach.
And you're like, this guy can't see without his glasses.
And he goes from Clark Kent to Superman.
and he turns in this incredible pommel horse performance.
And I mean, he is, by looks, he is the nerdiest nerd who has ever nerded ever.
And he secures the Olympic medal for the men's gymnastics team.
It is amazing.
I am shocked.
Like, do you guys not on televisions?
How do you not seen this?
I know you're talking about now.
There was something about him solving a Rubik's cube in like 10 seconds before he went out there, too.
So adding to his nerddom, that's a pretty.
impressive feet. I think he had done it right before
going out there for the pomm horse.
Are we sure?
Are we sure this nerd guy is not
our Matt Jones? Matt has been gone.
Is it not Matt the dis? I think this guy might
have accomplished a little more than Matt could accomplish on the
pommel horse, but there are some
similarities in the glasses. I see that.
If he would have come out wearing like
a Sacramento King's hoodie, then I would have
perhaps given it more value.
But stories like his or
why I like the Olympics.
I mean, with all due respect to LeBron and Kevin Durant, I'm excited to watch them today,
but I've seen them a million times.
I like learning more about Stephen with the glasses, the Derek Henry of rugby we had yesterday
that went into end on the field.
That's why the Olympics is so fun to me because so many of these people are unknown,
but have these huge accomplishments.
How about the gold medal fencer from Lexington?
Yeah.
Lee Kiefer.
Two second gold medal for the Dunbar grad.
Here's the problem with it, though.
We get fascinated.
And my household, like my wife, my daughters, they are fascinated with the Olympics.
And we'll be watching primetime Olympics, even though we know that all of this stuff ended hours before
because of the way it's packaged and the stories they tell and get tied into it.
Like I was watching the three on three, as I said yesterday.
The referees in three on three, by the way, are dressed like gym teachers.
It's like untucked gray t-shirts and gray shorts.
They don't look like referees.
water polo. They're just beating the ever-living crap out of each other.
Not just under the water, but the men stuff like dudes are getting punched in the face.
And I'm like, where's the whistle? How is this allowed? I don't understand men's handball is fascinating.
But there are so many events and there's so much tonnage that a lot of these stories only have a shelf life of like 24 hours.
like I think the women's team plays in hoops today.
They had like 2 million people watching the other day.
Maybe they play tomorrow.
People are going to forget about rugby sevens
when women's hoops gets back on the court.
When LeBron and Company gets back on the court,
when track and field starts.
Like Simone Biles and the women's gymnastics team,
amazing yesterday.
And then they talk trash to their haters afterwards.
Like that was just great television.
And then poof, like we're on to.
the next either niche sport or big sport.
I almost feel like there's too much.
Simone's a good example.
I didn't know there was beef with, I guess,
Michaela, someone said something about they don't work hard enough.
But the moment she made that Instagram post last night,
I'm like, yeah, tell her, tell her,
and I didn't even know what was going on.
But that's why this is so fun,
you're just learning so much more about these sports
that you didn't know about and all these side stories.
Gymnastics, I have no interest in watching gymnastics 364 days out of the year.
But last night, I'm like,
Gymnastics is on.
Get to the TV.
It's just, it's so fun to watch the Olympics.
What is your favorite event to watch, Ryan?
I'm like Drew.
I never would ever watch the gymnastics,
but in the Summer Olympics, you have to watch it.
I mean, that is the go-to.
I can remember Mary Lou Retton for crying out loud
and Carrie Strug and all these.
Was her Bella Carolli?
Was her coach?
Bella Carolli, yeah, when she spranged her ankle and stuck the vault.
I mean, that's the go-to sport.
But I tell you, I am kind of a,
I'm a guy I like to watch swimming too.
That's another one.
I would never want to watch swimming.
But at the Olympics, I'm like, give me all of the swimming.
Give me some swimming.
I need more swimming.
I can't wait for break dancing.
Like, I'm oddly fascinated by the fact that break dancing is now part of the summer
Olympics.
I want to see that.
I am 100% with you.
I don't know what it's going to look like, but I'm fascinated by it.
I think one of the things that kind of works against, and the viewership is through the roof.
So it's not like people aren't watching.
But I think one of the things that works against it from a sports standpoint is there really aren't enough villains, right?
In swimming, especially women's swimming, we hate Australia.
Like that's fond of route against Australia.
But Russia's been banned from the Olympics by the world anti-doping agency.
And then the IOC banned Russia and Belarus due to their involvement in Ukraine.
So I think the athletes are still competing, but you don't see Russia out there.
So it's like you're not going to get a.
Rocky three moment. Was it Rocky three? With the U.S. versus Russia. So I think we're kind of missing out.
And I don't want, do I need people to root for? I need somebody to root against. Like the Australian
swim coach who's got this long kinky blonde hair and always runs up and down the aisle and like
talking smack. I hate that dude. I hate like I want to see bad things happen in. That helps me
get invested in what's happening, I don't really, it's hard to root against like real Olympians.
So because of everything they go through and how they only have this finite window to accomplish
their goals.
Yeah, that Russian documentary on Netflix years ago, I mean, that made it easy to not like Russia
in the Olympics.
I'd like more of them as a villain story.
You mentioned Chase Budinger a little bit briefly earlier, but I like the photo of him
and Durant.
I didn't realize they were the co-MvPs of the McDonald's All-American game in high school.
Where are they?
And then they recreated the photo in the Olympics where Chase is playing volleyball and Durant, you know, led the team in scoring the other day.
So that was a unique little twist.
I didn't realize that they had that history together.
I called a couple of Buttinger's games when he was at Arizona.
And then he ends up in the NBA for, I think, like five seasons.
It goes to show you just how elite guys are playing in the association, right?
Just because you were MVP of the McDonald's All-American game, just because you were first team all Pac-12, maybe Pac-12 player of the year.
It doesn't mean you're going to last forever in the league.
But it also shows us how wildly athletic all these dudes are to then transition and play freaking beach volleyball.
It's amazing.
Yeah, then more power to him, man.
He's still got that competitive juices in it.
He still can go to the Olympics and compete at a high level like this.
I think it's one of the best stories of the Olympics right now.
I'm looking forward to golf starting.
I know that's a sport I watch often, but Olympic golf is going to be fun.
I believe that gets underway tomorrow.
We didn't talk, by the way, because I was on vacation,
but how about the tournament that went to a five-man playoff there in your hometown tournament?
It was amazing.
Yeah, five-membered playoff at a dude chipped in for how far he chipped in for the win,
like 45 yards or something?
He had a big shot to – he was from England,
and that punched his ticket to go to the British Open,
so it was pretty neat to see him win that one.
We learned yesterday that tournament's moving to Louisville, Tom,
so Lexington's done with the PGA.
The ESCO gets keep in Kentucky.
the same group that took it over and kept it here one more year.
They're keeping it around, but it's moving to Louisville.
Did you see that comment?
Was that riding on the wall?
It was a very poorly kept secret once it changed from Barbissau to the ESCO Championship.
It's the same guy that owns Valhalla, helped get Scotty Sheffler out of jail that morning.
So once he saved it in Captain Kentucky, kind of assumed he would move it over to Louisville.
That's all right.
At least we get to keep one in the bluegrass, but it was a good run over at Nicholasville.
Had a lot of fun at that over the years when it wasn't raining.
Hey, any other big news we need to talk about?
Nick Rouse reported that Paul Rodriguez on the offensive line in Kentucky has medically retired.
Darren Peterson has Kentucky in the cut list.
He's going to have an official visit ahead of fall commitment.
What else is like what's notable going on right now?
Well, Lafamilia has been the big story for the last several weeks, this basketball team.
I mean, I've got people texting me out of the blue, man.
How can we watch the game in Philadelphia?
I'm all on board now.
You know, why aren't you guys doing a radio
Broncos? They want us to do a pre-game
and a post game for LaFamilia, Tom.
And people are like dead serious about it.
Do you think this would have happened?
Let's say LaFamilia made the Final Four
as they have and the opponents there are as they are stated.
How much does the Louisville game play into that?
And if that would have just been a blowout
instead of that Louisville team kind of coming back
and making it interesting late in the second
half. Do you think that's what's driven the interest or just because this team is so likable
and the nostalgia tied into so many of these guys? It's 95% nostalgia. Yeah, nostalgia.
I mean, you got the Harrison twins. You got Willie Colley Stein. You got Nate Sustina dropping
bombs all over the court. I mean, you got Daniel Wharton be the best cheerleader in the whole building
on the bench. I mean, it is, I think a lot of nostalgia and people just love these guys.
And it's the timing, too. You got Mark Pope, new coach.
town and now you're getting to see, you know, these UK players that you weren't sure if they were
going to support, you know, Kentucky in the past.
Well, now you're seeing it.
They're still bleeding blue now.
And I think it's the time.
A new coach in town, Cal's in Arkansas, and then the guys, Kyle's guys are still representing
Kentucky.
And they still got some love for Kyle down there in Arkansas as well.
There's some current basketball news.
Mario and I got to do interviews with some of the players yesterday.
They're giving us three a time this summer.
As we get to know the new guys, we got to talk to Kobe Brea.
Jackson Robinson and Trent Noah yesterday.
Brea, who's one of the best shooters in college basketball last year.
Just fun talking to him about how exciting it's going to be to play in an offense
where the big men are looking to pass out to the perimeter.
You're surrounded by guys that can shoot.
He said, you all are going to be shocked by how fast we play and how many threes we take.
That got me very excited.
They're going to live and die by the three, but it's going to be a fun style of basketball.
And it was good hearing from him for the first time since he's been on the team.
Drew, he doesn't know.
Kobe doesn't know if he's the greatest shooter in the team right now.
He's known to be the best shooter in the nation,
but we were talking to him yesterday, Drew,
and he's like, I'm not sure.
Like maybe I don't know.
I'm confident that I'm the best shooter on the team,
but, hey, like, it might be Travis.
There's some other guys that can shoot on this team as well.
There's another aspect of it I want to get to.
But to your point about the style of play,
like going back and watching the BYU stuff under Pope,
what I'm hopeful of is it's not only the style,
but it's also a, and he had elite players at BYU,
but it's also a step up in the caliber of player running the style, right,
which takes it to a whole other level.
And then you get other teams in the league that like to get up and down too.
Like Alabama's going to be,
that's going to be a really interesting matchup.
And it's going to be a microcosm of modern basketball as a whole,
not just modern college basketball.
I want to talk more about Lafamalia when we returned.
How about a live read before we go to break, Shannon? Can we do that?
Ryan?
Yeah, I got you.
Ryan and Drew's got the rest of them.

We're going to talk a little bit more about Left Amelia and put a bow on my guest hosting for this summer.
It was a blast.
Sad.
After this, I know, I'm crying.
I'm really not crying, but I am on the inside.

Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, Tom.
And for Matt.
Matt comes back from Nether regions next week, I suppose.
He's back in the United States now, actually.
He got to the United States yesterday.
Where is he?
I think he's in New York.
Not coming back to Kentucky until Friday.
Friday.
Feel his aura getting closer and closer.
How about another life?
Live weed before he shut things out, huh?
Sure, the segment sponsored by Draft Kings.

Two-point favorites, it's fascinating.
With the ELEM ending, first dead ball under four minutes,
the target score, they had eight to the leader.
And there's, you know, as a coach from Tyler,
you just got to figure out like, okay, do I want to take a time out as soon as we hit
359 and set the Ilam ending there and then cash in on the eight points as fast as we can
or if we're trailing, do we, you know, work the clock a little bit and try to get closer
before that next dead ball?
I think it's fascinating.
Do you guys like the Elam ending?
Mario, you like it?
I love it.
I love it.
I think it creates an excitement in the game whenever you're, regardless of what happens,
you're going to get a buzzer beater.
You're going to get a buzzer beater.
I actually love it.
It's kind of what it reminds me of is kind of a pickup game style.
You know, you got to get the game point.
That's what it reminds me of.
And I'm a huge fan of the Eli Mending.
But, Ryan, there's no way it's ever coming to college basketball or the NBA, right?
I mean, you can use it for the All-Star game as they have,
but you're not going to play a regular season game at this rule, are you?
No, I don't think it will.
I mean, like you said, like maybe some All-Star games or something like that.
But you do have a game-winning shot every single game,
and it could be a 10-point, 12-point, 13-point victory,
but you hit that game winner.
It's like you just hit the last second shot to win by one.
That does make it kind of exciting.
I've enjoyed it, but Monday nights, Elam ending set the game of basketball back several years.
I don't know what they ended up shooting, Mario.
We were there an extra hour because neither team could throw it in.
Finally, Andrew Harrison made the game winner, but there were several missed shots after they set that target score.
That was a little hard to watch.
You know what I think it is, Drew?
I think the players feel a little bit more pressure when they have that target score on the board.
So maybe that's why, you know, they're missing a little bit more.
Yeah, you have a chance to end it.
People throw up random shots.
Hey, let's go to the phone lines real quick.
We got Mark waiting, Shannon.
Yes, go ahead, Mark.
Hey, Tom.
I was curious if, hey, I'm sort of curious if you, you know,
you've got a pretty special relationship with these guys.
And I'm just wondering, do you have that same relationship with fans of other teams?
Or is it, you know, kind of just these guys that have this relationship with?
Oh, I think it's just the Kentucky fan base.
Mark, thanks for the call.
And it's tied into this show, right?
Because I made a connection with not just Matt, but this entire group.
But then I kind of got introduced to this entire listenership, which is representative of the Kentucky fan base.
But obviously there's, you know, not direct overlaps because it's such a wide variety of people to call into the show.
And I became a fan of the show.
I don't know that there's another show like it in the SEC.
Like Cole and Greg have a great show out of Birmingham that talks football from Alabama and Auburn.
Texags in Texas covers A&M.
There's some Arkansas shows, but there's really not a show like this.
It really has this sense of community throughout the entire state with people who are listening,
not just for sports news and not just for Kentucky news.
So I think that's what makes it unique.
Also, really the only reason guys I agreed to do this was try to get my Instagram followers up.
So Tommy H-44, T-O-M-M-I-E-H-44, I need to get my Instagram followers up.
Follow.
That's the only reason.
That's the only reason I did the show all summer.
No, I completely get it.
Mario, after the show, when he does our Instagram posts from our account,
so he'll make sure he tags you with an encouragement to follow Tom,
because you deserve all the follows that you'll get.
And also part of the reason we're so close, you left out a big detail.
You're the only person I've been snorkeling with in my life.
I've been snorkeling one time.
You were there.
And I think that's where everything started was us in the water.
Well, most of us in the water.
Snorkeling in the Bahamas.
Look, well, we're snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of Caribbean, chasing turtles.
And Matt Jones is wearing a black pearl necklace reading a book on deck.
I mean, it was unbelievable.
We had a good time.
No doubt we did.
We did. That was a fun.
I think we need another trip to the Bahamas.
Fellas, it's been a blast.
Man, thank you so much, Tom.
Thank you for doing this all summer.
We really, really appreciate it.
You killed it.
There's nothing else I'd rather do.
And hopefully I see you there for opening kickoff Kentucky football.
That'd be awesome if you got the first game.
We should be there.
Yeah, we'll wait and see.
All right, thanks.
Kentucky Sports Radio.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, everybody.
