Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
A rep.
My mama want you to wave at her.
What? Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.

Now, here's Matt Jones.
Welcome, everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio Monday, August the 5th.
I'm Matt Jones here live at the KS Bar and Grill on a gorgeous day in Lexington.
And you could give us a shout on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, 859,
280 2287. A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-724-5254. It's a full house. I've got Ryan and
Drew Shannon's in Louisville. I can't believe I remembered all that after a few months to get that
little intro. Great crowd of people here for my first show back. Thank you very much. And Ryan,
wonderful to see you. Welcome back, brother. I mean, really, welcome back. We're so happy.
I'm excited to, I haven't asked you questions I want to ask you yet because I want to save it for the show,
We're really happy you had this opportunity experience of a lifetime, man.
It was awesome.
And I want to thank, well, I want to thank you and Drew and Shannon and Mario and Billy and everybody for making it to where I could go.
I heard you held down the fort very well.
I know everybody, I guess, now loves Black Jones with Myron Beckham.
Yeah.
He was a big hit.
He was a big hit.
And then the guest hosts.
And so Drew, it looks like it went pretty well.
I listened to one segment while I was gone, which was somebody said, the part of my take,
people said something nice about you.
So I listened to that.
I didn't even listen to Petino interview yet, but I appreciate all you did.
We had lots of fun.
It both flew by and took forever.
You know, it seemed like normally summers are slow, but we had so much going on.
It just kept the show flowing pretty seamlessly with all the unexpected sports that popped up.
I was, I love my trip.
We'll talk more about it as we go on.
I had like one moment, really two moments of what, FOMO.
One was when they went to the college World Series.
Yep.
Because I just, I've been to that event and loved it,
and the idea of going with Kentucky would have been awesome.
Had they won, then I might have gotten.
I seriously had the thoughts.
If they make the finals, I might fly and fly back.
But then they didn't.
And then the second was when you got in a fight with the Louisville people at the TV.
It wasn't a fight.
It was an assault.
We'll talk more about that in a little bit too, but I was like, man, I can't leave Drew just out there getting hit at the games.
But it was a wonderful trip.
And so here's what we decided to do, okay?
Because, you know, there's two hours of stuff.
There's a ton of stuff to talk about.
I came up with 10 things from my trip, and I asked Ryan to come up with 10 things that have happened since I was gone.
And we will use those to kind of do our discussion.
So we won't take phone calls today.
We will, if you're listening, take them tomorrow if you want to call in and ask questions.
But I thought, Ryan, that would be the easiest way to talk about all this by going,
kind of alternating 10 things that we did.
So did you do your homework?
I did, yeah.
And I can speak for Drew and Shannon.
We're anxious to hear what you have to say about your trip.
You know, we kind of – you did a really good job on Instagram.
Posting pictures, where are you?
You know, I'm in Ireland.
I'm in Germany.
I'm in Austria.
I'm in Spain.
We all got to kind of follow along a little bit.
but now to hear the experiences you had in these countries,
I think it's going to be really cool.
I cannot believe you did not tweet for 10 weeks.
So not only did I not tweet.
I sat on the airport runway at O'Hare in Chicago to fly on my initial flight to Greece.
I deleted the Twitter app.
Did you?
Wow.
Deleted it.
And I said to myself, not getting on it again.
I never got on the app again.
There was one time I got on it online, which was.
And we'll talk about this later to see if Donald Trump had survived this show.
I did want to know, like, when I saw that, I was like, I got to see what happens.
But beyond that, never got on it, didn't re-download it until I landed in Cincinnati just a few days ago.
And I was off at the entire time.
I know you texted us just a couple times.
Did you do a good job kind of just detaching from everything?
For the first month, I detached totally.
Totally from everything.
I would get up in the morning
and I would read the BBC and New York Times
and then look at ESPN.
And then I'd do it again before I went to bed
because it was like six hours ahead there, you know?
Once all the political news started happening,
then I would check maybe three times a day.
Yeah.
But I still, I was more detached.
I mean, I went, my screen time or whatever
was about 30% what it is when I'm here,
which I was very proud of.
And honestly, if I didn't have to use it for directions to get around,
it would have been even less than that.
Well, I think I can speak for everybody sitting here.
We've got a huge crudder at KS Bar.
He looks skinny.
He's lost weight, hadn't he?
Dude, you look skinny.
Well, I guess that's good.
Yeah.
No, it's good.
It's a good look.
Yeah.
Well, you walk a lot.
So, I mean, I walked, there were days I walked 25,000 steps, right?
So you walk a lot.
and then the food, we don't, you know, they don't have as much preservatives in it.
So even when you eat, Drew, you're actually eating a lot better food.
So I did.
I lost a lot of it right off the bat.
I lost probably 15 pounds in two, three weeks.
And then I kind of stayed that same weight the whole time.
How excited are you for this gigantic bag of nerds gummi clusters?
Everybody is bringing me these nerds and donuts.
And like I'm trying to stay healthy, but I appreciate it.
Costco size, right?
I didn't know they make that size.
That's huge.
But I'll eat them.
I'll just eat them slowly.
I already did get, I think I had a list the things I missed.
I got my first McDonald's Diet Coke yesterday.
Oh, yeah?
I had the KS Bar wings.
The only thing on my list I haven't eaten yet, Skyline, which I will at some point.
I know you had to be happy as soon as you come back.
Max joins you be your roommate for a couple days.
Well, way to spoil the news we were going to report later this week.
Nice job.
We're four minutes into it.
He's back.
And Ryan's already back.
You're back and Ron's back.
Prepared Ryan is already out the door.
Something's never changed.
Something's never changed.
And we're already back to Ryan spoiling the news.
See, I was going to save that for an announcement later this week.
Gotcha.
I didn't know that.
But I'll go ahead and say it.
Max has taken a coaching job here in Lexington, so he will be back and he will be on the football
pregame show.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So he will be on the football pregame show this year with us.
And we were going to wait and say that on Wednesday or Thursday,
but I guess Drew now we're saying it now.
I'm smiling, not because Max is back, but because Ryan's back.
He did so good for 10 weeks and he does like the most Ryan limit thing ever right away.
He just turns the key on immediately when I get back and he's the same.
All right, so let's do the 10 things.
Okay.
So I'll just, I'm going to make mine short because I know most people want to hear about the Kentucky
and that kind of stuff.
I'll start with, my first thing, I landed in, I went to 12 countries.
Wow.
Okay.
The first country I went to was Greece.
And I'm going to say to everybody, if you ever get a chance, you need to go to Greece.
Greece might have been a lot with one other, might have been my favorite place.
There are like, did you know how many islands are in Greece?
A bunch.
What's a bunch?
I would say there's 900.
There's 900 islands.
There's a little bitty ones out there all over the point.
900 islands of Greece.
Okay, well, it's like 45.
So it's not quite 900.
But they're all night.
I went to Crete, which is, again, if you're ever going to pick a place, it's awesome because it has beaches, it has mountains.
It's like, it's still a little, it's not quite like the rest of Europe.
It's still kind of country and the people maybe are like in the 1960s and 70s a little bit,
I think it's awesome.
And I spent a week there.
And then I went to Athens.
And some of you have been to Athens.
There is no hotter place on the planet than Athens, Greece.
And you know, what's it called?
The Acropolis, is that right, that's on top of the hill?
Do you know what I'm talking about?
Yes.
I walked up there and there was like a Japanese pop star that was walking up there.
And he had this entourage of people following him around.
He was wearing a full suit.
It was probably 100 degrees.
Hottest I've ever been in my life.
And he was wearing a full suit.
And you have not seen people go crazy.
Then you've seen young Asian women about an Asian pop star.
Never seen anything like it.
And, of course, I had no idea who he was.
And this man had to be one of the most famous people that I've ever been around,
even though I didn't know who he was.
And he wore a full suit in 100 degree weather.
But I am a huge Drew fan of Greece.
along with Spain, that was my favorite country, and I highly recommend.
Greece looks amazing.
I hope to go one day.
But running into someone that's so big and internationally and not even on your radar,
just shows how big the world is and what little we really know.
Yeah, well, when I would go places and talk about Kentucky,
there would be some people who would know Kentucky basketball, like a handful of people,
and then they would go, who played there?
And I'd say these names like, John Wall, no idea who he was.
Devin Booker, no idea who he is.
And so you sit there and think,
it is insane that we live in these separate worlds.
I'll tell you who they did know, though.
Rick Patino.
Oh.
No.
Rick Patino is huge in Greece.
That team he went and coached is the biggest basketball team in Greece.
So when I said Kentucky, in every other part of Europe,
people would say Kentucky Fried Chicken, Bourbon.
but in Greece
always Rick Patino
could run for Prime Minister of Greece
Drew I had no idea how big Rick Petito
He wasn't even very long, right?
No, he was there one year
He was there one year and they talked about
How brilliant they thought he was
And the only guy I heard complain is one guy was mad
He didn't learn to speak Greek
But otherwise they actually
They love Rick Patino
So who knew?
Who knew?
All right, so what's number one on your list?
Well you kind of touched on it
The number one sports star, I felt like when you were gone, was UK baseball.
I mean, not just going to the World Series, but even the first round games here were sellouts,
then the Super Regional sellouts.
Every game, the crowd's got bigger and bigger.
We had huge watch parties here at the restaurant, and then they ended up going to the College World Series.
That was the big story.
I found myself listening on a lot of my drives to college baseball podcast.
As crazy as that sounds, because I was so excited about it from afar.
I watched the, did they play NC State?
Is that right who they played?
And I watched that game live.
That was the one game I got to watch live.
But I thought it was awesome.
Do you think the question I have is, do you think this could, like,
do you think we're going to be good at baseball from now on?
Or is this like, because, you know, we had kind of a two guys get drafted high?
You think it's like a one-time fluke?
Or are we going to, is this going to become a baseball school too?
The SEC is so difficult.
But I do think that there's more of that to come.
You know, it might not be regularly, but I think there will be future Omaha
trips coming up. I went to every game over there at Kentucky Proud Park. I'm so glad that
place finally got its moment. It was so fun. Every single one of those games getting there several
hours early to claim a spot in the berm if you had to. I hope they continue to be good. I love
the pictures of the lines of people waiting to get in. And I'll say this when I listen to those
baseball podcasts, the people, these national college baseball people kept praising the Kentucky crowd.
They were like the atmosphere at those games is one of the best atmospheres in the country,
goes to show when our fans are into something, we're as big into it as anybody, even if it's a
sport that two, three years ago, we didn't draw anything for. Yeah, there was one game where they had
like a two-hour rain delay and the fans set out in the rain, didn't leave. Sure did. And then the
next day, the line was all the way down to Kroger Field and it started raining and people stood in
the line waiting to get into the baseball stadium. You're right. I mean, everyone's singing their
walk-up music. One of the ones I went early to help preserve seats were there two hours early and
People were in there screaming and doing chance and waving their pink hats.
It was just a crazy atmosphere that I didn't even know was capable of putting together over there.
And now I want more of it.
So did any of you all go to the College World Series?
You went?
No.
Did we get a good crowd there?
I never got a sense of if we had a lot of people go.
I know a lot of people that went, but also know several that were waiting to see if they'd make it just a little farther.
So it's almost like we didn't know how to handle it.
When to go earlier?
We lost to Florida and who.
Who was the other one we lost to?
LSU?
Was it?
No.
Play two SACP?
A&M.
A&M.
That's who the other one that was.
Well, I definitely had FOMO and you guys were, I'm sure, into it.
Did you have Ming G-Oan on during it some?
He didn't get to join us live, but he called in, yeah, joined the show that one time.
Well, I, it looked like the most exciting thing.
Yeah.
A big shout out to the Kentucky fans who kind of, I think, registered us on the national
radar for that sport during it. So we're going to talk about he's going to go over the basketball,
the football. I know that some people won't love it, but you're going to have to deal with it.
We have to talk about all the stuff that happened in politics because it was one of the most
historic two months that have ever happened. So we at least have to deal with it and some more on the
trip. I'm really glad to be back. Thank you to everybody for being here at KS. Bar. We'll take a
break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

American soccer is about to explode.
The World Cup is coming.
Bramers sending on to Ernie Stewart the chip.
I'm Tad Ramos.
I'm Tom Boe. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Policic. I'm not worried about Balligan. I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or particularly,
essentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.
Experience it all with us.

Welcome back, Tegie Sports Radio here at KS Bar.
Great crowd here.
Hey, we are here all week, Monday through Thursday.
I love to have you come out and say hello over the course of the week.
Then Friday we're in Hopkinsville.
I still don't know where we are in Hopkinsville.
A-Vision glass.
Like their new facility.
They have a new facility.
And in Hopkinsville, yeah.
So we'll be in Hopkinsville.
And we are having our yearly annual state of KSR meeting in Hopkinsville Thursday night.
So if anybody in Hopkinsville can tell us where we should go to celebrate.
It's a retreat.
It's going to be a wild Thursday night in Hopkinsville, right?
Well, KSR overnight, haven't done one of those.
First one Mario's ever done.
The first KSR overnight.
So text machine is 772-7-7-4-5-254.
One person writes,
Matt, I actually hate to tell you this, but Ryan wasn't totally wrong.
There are 2,700 islands in Greece, although only 45 to 50 are inhabited.
So you were...
I think my description is there was a lot, I think, kind of covered it off.
It's still 1,600 off, right?
Yeah.
See, still weighs off.
But that's okay.
All right, I'm going to do my second one here.
Can I tell you I only gotten one controversy?
Me too.
We don't know this.
Yeah.
So in Europe, every, all the countries except England and one more, I didn't know about the one more.
They have something where it's like open borders.
So like if you go to one country, if you're in Italy, you can go to Greece and you don't have to show your passport.
Right.
Like once you're in, you're in.
You only have to show it the first time you go into Europe.
Okay.
So it makes it to where, like if you're taking a train, it doesn't have to stop and do all that.
That's called the Schengen or something, whatever.
Now, England left Europe, so that's different.
But Ireland is still in Europe.
All right, they're still part of the...
So I assumed that they had the same rules that the rest of them did.
They do not.
For whatever reason, they have an exception where when you go into Ireland,
even if you're coming from a European country, you still have to go through customs.
I didn't know that.
So I was walking through, and I get up to the customs.
There's not many people there.
And I go do what I've done in every country, which is just walk through.
This dude, this Irish dude, comes running me down, and he grabs me.
And he's like, where are you going?
And I said, oh, I was coming from Madrid.
I thought we were good.
And he said, and I'm not going to do the voice.
He was like, you're in Ireland.
You're not in Madrid.
And he, like, pushes me against the wall.
And again, you were with me in Canada where I thought I wasn't going to be.
You're in borders.
I'm telling you, your heart skips a beat.
You know what I mean?
Because you don't want to like, you sit there and think,
what if I end up on a no-fly list or something like that?
And then he looks at me and he goes, you stop at the Irish border.
You respect the Irish people.
And I like know enough to go, okay, man.
See this movie.
I respect the Irish people, you know?
I love it.
Guinness, whatever, man.
And then he takes my passport.
All he does is look at it and go, okay.
and he just throws it back in my house so Canada and Ireland you're on a list you would think
that would those would be the easiest countries to get in but don't just walk across the border in
Ireland it's kind of scary a little bit there's got to be a moment and you've got to think yourself
oh I am because you're in a I know it's not like a third world country but you're in a different
place you know what I mean and you don't and I had kind of illegally crossed the border I guess
but I didn't I didn't know that that was the rule and so you got to be careful about that
Matt Jones and illegal in Ireland just crossing over.
That was.
They needed to try to clear me out.
All right, what's number two?
Well, we hadn't needed a chance to talk about it because it happened at 1201 after the show ended Friday at 12 where Kentucky gets, has to vacate the wins from 2021, gets put on probation.
We have not to talk to that.
I had just got on Twitter.
I just downloaded Twitter, and the first thing is we get that.
So what's your take on it?
You know, I heard back in, in like, May this one.
was coming.
And the staff knew that it was coming.
So this is from the Chris Rodriguez.
And I hate to call it the Chris Rodriguez thing because there was 10 other guys,
but he was,
I think he was one of only two or three that played.
He and Jordan Wright played.
He and Jordan Wright.
So the other nine guys didn't play.
So really it's Chris Rodriguez and Jordan Wright.
They were working.
Is it at UK healthcare, I think?
And I guess basically they were being clocked in by a guy there.
and then never working.
And thus that made them ineligible that year.
You remember Rodriguez set out the first four games of the next year.
I sort of read it as, I think they agreed to this so that instead of fighting it.
I think Mitch, you know, technically if you use an illegal player or ineligible player,
they could have gotten put on probation with a bowl ban.
But these rules, it's kind of like people who were,
arrested for marijuana before marijuana became legal.
The NCAA, I think the NCAA and UK just agreed, look, we know this wouldn't happen now,
but you did violate the rules, so this is like a middle ground.
But it stinks because that's 10 wins.
Mark Stoops is for right now, no longer the all-time winningest coach at UK,
although he'll get it back at the beginning of the year.
I'm going to act like we won the games, just like everybody else does.
I mean, I saw us go 10 and 3.
I saw us win the Citrus Bowl.
But it does mean things like I don't think they can show the Citrus Bowl trophy anymore, which has been a centerpiece of when you walk into the to the UK practice facility.
So I don't think it's a big deal, Ryan, but I also, it kind of stinks for them that did it because it's one of our two best years of my lifetime.
Yeah.
And I guess as far as the probation goes, it doesn't affect postseason play, right?
Doesn't affect scholarships.
Doesn't affect postseason play.
Doesn't affect recruiting.
It really affects nothing except the record book.
So it's not, it's not, and it, all the, the, the, the NCAA found that the, uh, UK coaches
and administrators did not know anything about it.
So, you know, but it does stink for those guys that play sure on that team because at
least in the short term, there won't be an acknowledgement of what happened during that
year.
Yeah, as far as we go this season moving forward, as long as you keep your nose clean for two years,
it doesn't affect the program one iota does it?
But it's also, I think it's not just.
football, I think a lot, maybe the athletic department as a whole is on note, because it also
included the swimming team, because during COVID, you were not supposed to practice, and the
swimming team apparently held practices during COVID, like, like, which is, so I think it is a,
I could be wrong about this, but I think it's a probation for the whole athletic department.
So like every sport, Drew, is going to have to make sure that they keep their nose clean over the
next couple of years. Yeah, I mean, it's certainly not nothing.
They were out of line, and that's going to have an asterisk forever, and that stinks.
But I'm just so relieved that this upcoming season isn't affected because most of these guys weren't even on the team.
I think they're going to have a special year ahead.
I'm glad there's not a lingering punishment.
I hate it for that group that had the 10-win season, but I'm glad it's nothing moving forward.
You were at Media Day.
Are you the vibes still good with this group?
I mean, I can tell you that there's a lot of people around the program that think they got maybe the best defense they've had in a long,
time, if not period.
And it's like, please Brock Vandigriff, be good.
Please be good.
That's kind of the viewpoint over there.
Yeah, I was actually in the indoor training facility and Media Day was on the field.
So I actually missed a lot of it while hosting the show.
But being around some of those guys, actually Berion and Dane, or two of them that have really
like grown men and matured.
Barryon even talked about how he's a different person, a lot more mature.
And then, you know, that Deumis Johnson, some of these guys they've added, Dionne being back.
I mean, it just doesn't look like some of the defenses.
I'm really looking forward to that.
Everyone around the program will tell you the same thing.
If Brock Vandigriff is good, we're good.
Bring it.
Like, we're good.
It'll be a different kind of team.
I don't think our running backs are going to be as good as they've been the last 10 years,
although I still think they can be good.
But it's all going to come down to Vandigriff because I think our defense is going to be some grown meat.
And he's got a great receiver death, not just Dana Barry on, some great pieces doing well early.
So we just got to hope this dude from Georgia.
Let's hope he's good.
We'll take a break.
Come back right here.

being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Carderback on office blue 42.
Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Ms. Parker.

American soccer is about to explain.
The World Cup is coming.
Ramos sending on to Ernie Stewart the chip.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals
or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.
Experience it all with us.

Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, here live at K.
AS Bar and Grill.
So for people who are wondering,
we're back to the old text machine.
Okay, thank you to A Vision Glass
for giving you all one.
Yes.
But we're back to the old one.
So it's 772-774-5254.
And I would like to hear from everybody.
I kind of kept that closed most of the time I was gone.
But I would check it once or twice a week.
And I, you know, it was a good reminder of why I like this show
was like that text machine.
because people would write me going through stuff in their life.
It was actually nice to kind of check in.
And some of them I communicated with who were dealing with, you know, various things that was going on.
So I actually enjoyed it.
One person writes, Matt, when you were gone over there, did you see many UK fans?
Yes.
So I twice ran into a KSR fan just out in public.
In Frankfurt, Germany, I was walking down.
the street and this lady just goes
Matt Jones and she was
from Kentucky. We were walking down the same
street. Not even a tourist street.
Like out in the middle of nowhere street.
I think I scared her to death
when I saw her. And then in Portugal
I was at dinner and I heard
people behind me talking about Alabama
and I was just going to reach over and say I'm from
Kentucky and the woman was originally from Lexington
and had been at this bar right before
they went to Portugal. Really?
So I saw two. I'd set a bet with
somebody at 1.5 and we got two.
Now, when I wore a Kentucky shirt, which I did a couple times, saw a ton of Kentucky fans, including, I want to say it's Stuttgart, Germany.
There's a military base there, and I wore one there, and probably met 15 Kentucky fans who were at the base who were part of the armed forces.
We're everywhere.
Kentucky fans were everywhere.
So you had a question for me about.
Well, excuse you, were you able to talk to your mom, communicate with your mom a lot when you were gone?
Yes, I did.
let me tell you what my mom did.
My mom went to my Louisville house and completely cleaned it, redid it.
Wow.
You know all those boxes of books?
Boxed them up.
Wow.
Like, I went there last night.
Looks like a different place.
That's a job I didn't even think surf pro could do.
And she went in there.
I was thinking I would never move just because I couldn't imagine cleaning or packing it.
So that was very nice.
That actually doesn't surprise me, though.
They were up there for like a week doing it.
Well, God bless her, because that was a job that I don't think any of us would want to undertake.
So, all right, what's next?
All right.
I think the third biggest story was La La La La Familia in the TBT tournament.
I mean, this fan base rallied around those guys.
We had a show where the entire team was here at KS Bar and Drew and I got to interview two guys.
People told me that was great.
It was amazing.
I wanted it to last for eight hours.
Yeah.
We could have done an eight-hour show.
You know, two guys would sit down and two more guys.
It was a lot of fun.
Willie said, let's do a Bahamas Tell-all.
And right as we started getting to it, it was just, here comes James Young and the next one.
We got to do a Bahamas tell.
He's in.
Because Willie's at the center of all the stories on the Bahamas tail off.
We just up against the clock that day.
Of course, then it went to Louisville to Freedom Hall and Drew getting punched after the game.
So that's the law familiar.
So I want to get to that.
First, Mario, like, two months ago, when we first hired him was like, we need to get into TBT, Lafamilia.
And I was like, oh, Mario, you're so.
you're so excited about this new job Mario you're so sweet he knew though because it looks like it kind of captivated the fan base a little bit and then that game in freedom hall drew you were there you said to me
well i'll let you say what did you think about that people if you weren't there you might think this sounds crazy but if you're in the building that felt like we're about to tip off a significant NCAA tournament game people were so anxious and loud you'd get the
C-A-R-D-S chant, which has too many syllables going, and then go Big Blue, we'd try to drown it out.
Fans were talking friendly as trash, but that rivalry for an exhibition tournament, I haven't seen it like that in a long time.
That place was on fire before that game, and a lot of those players have history.
You could tell they had animosity going into it.
I couldn't believe how excited and fired up we all got for the basketball tournament,
something that's been in Lexington before that didn't really get a lot of attention.
Say what you want about Louisville and their fans.
But 2010 to like 2016, when Cal first got here and Rick was there, and Louisville was good, and we were good,
the atmosphere in those games was just like nothing.
I mean, I've been to a ton of Duke Carolina games.
I don't care what any of those people say.
This is more intense.
It just is.
Duke Carolina, they respect each other.
We hate each other.
And the atmosphere in a building, and I would argue it's as crazy as it sounds, it's even more intense in Louisville because they hate us more than we hate them.
Like we've been better than them for a while.
So when we're there and we're in that building, they are so mad and they are so angry and they are so worked up that the tension is just, it's really exciting.
And you were telling me that Willie, or no, I saw the video.
Willie said it's the most fun he's had playing basketball since 2015.
Since he was here, I think that's really cool.
We had already been to three of them in Rupp, and I'm standing by Mario.
They introduced La Familia, and it's rowdy.
They're getting booed.
And then it goes red in there, and they do, like, the whole intro that they would do at the Yom Center for a real team.
It was so wild.
And then we won.
And, of course, it's got to be a Harrison twin that hits the show.
Of course.
Yeah.
You know, I thought it was cool, too.
Mark Pope and his current team kind of rallied around.
them. They went to all the games at Rupp.
They even went to Freedom Hall. The team did to watch the...
So let's talk about that for a second.
Mark Pope and the team, again, just from the outside, I haven't been here.
It feels like they are intentionally trying to embrace all the secondary parts of Kentucky basketball.
The go to this, you know, make an appearance here.
I love that about it.
Yeah, they went to the baseball games, you know, during the College World Series run.
They went to the La Familiar games.
So, yeah.
And not only did they go, Drew will tell you, they were some.
some of the biggest cheer supporters out there.
And Rup, RC, we were basically sitting with them.
Mario and I were right in the middle of them.
It's not like it was another event they had to do as a team.
They were cheering like they grew up watching Willie Collie Stein.
Andrew Carr was getting up out of a seat every time they scored.
I mean, all these guys were getting into it so much,
and that was their kind of first taste of BBN, really.
And then we've interviewed a lot of them since,
and they're just even more excited to get out there themselves.
I think it's awesome.
They got to do it, and I think it's even more awesome.
Another thing that made it so cool is it wasn't the race.
season ticket holders. It's kind of like what we say about madness. So at Freedom Hall,
Stephen Peake made this point. I don't know that anyone sat down for the entire second half.
We don't do that in regular games. Everyone in there was standing up for the majority of the
game and cheering me the whole time. Just because it was. All right. That's all nice. You got punched.
I did get punched. Did get assaulted a little bit.
What happened? I turned to our dear friends, Marsha and Kendall. I am doing Ells down as hard as I
possibly can. My wrist still hurt from doing Ells down all night. Not doing it to Louisville fans. People
keep saying I'm in a little fan's face. I'm in Marsha's face because we love Marsha and she's doing it with me.
But I turn to join the celebration, give a Mario for our video right after and right as I turn,
like getting hit by a train, I didn't even see it. I just felt a big thud in my chest. I still felt it all the way up through Saturday.
So a dude just hit you in the chest? Yeah, I didn't even know him. I had no prior interactions with him and I'll look at him and throw my hands up like,
like come back here. And then I start thinking, do I really want to get in a fist fight in the middle of Freedom Hall?
And I'll look over. I'm like, let that guy be a loser. And then I walk to the
celebration. I didn't even know it at the time, but Abby was like, I got all that on video.
I didn't know who did it. So did you, without saying the name, do you know who did it now?
Oh, I knew, I'm not kidding. I probably had 100 plus DMs. I had so haven't even answered most of them.
Many of them were Louisville fans calling him the worst. Kentucky fans. I just can't imagine punching
someone about a TBT game. Like I said, I didn't know that. I had no prior, I didn't even seen this person before.
and I was just turning to walk towards the court to continue miles down.
And really, that's when I turned, and it's not two seconds later,
the luggy goes flying right in front of me.
All of that was all in like a matter of seconds.
They spit on him.
Yes.
Shannon, you can't spit on somebody, right?
Like, that's got to be the rule.
Like, whatever else you do, I mean, I'd rather be punched than spit on, wouldn't you?
Absolutely would.
You spit on me?
You're going to get punched in the sternum just like Drew did.
And he was spitting, was it because of Nate Sestina?
Yes.
Who would have thought Nate Sestina's out here getting people that
worked up. Well, uh, Anahoktuah and Nate Sistina shook hands and it looked cordial.
Hang on just a second. What did you just call it? That's what we've been calling him.
On Hawk, too. But it was, they had a cordial post game interaction and then I think he said something about
don't do else down. And I don't know if Eulis heard him, but like three different people behind
Sistina, including Eulis, throw Ells down right at him. And then it was on. So explain to me something.
And this is going to be true with our new Texas team coming in here. What is it with these teams,
becoming like pansies with the,
don't throw the hills down,
don't throw the horns that, like, whatever.
Why do these dudes, why is that the thing that you can't do?
I mean, it makes us want to do it so much more.
Yes.
And that's the other thing.
Like, the more they hate it, the more I want to do it.
I mean, I'm a grown man.
I'm not going to walk around going L's down,
but if you sit and tell me you hate it, okay, well, L's down.
Yesterday, we stayed in Cincinnati Saturday, Saturday,
We're checking out of our hotel early Sunday morning, and we're walking past the valet, and there's some Louisville shirts.
And Abby just goes, don't because she knew.
I was about to hit them with it right there at the valet, too, because it's just so fun to do because we know it gets under their skin.
And I do think, I mean, we'll look back.
I think we said this during the time, but we will look back in history.
I don't know that it'll ever be as intense as it was 2010 to 2016 in terms of the hate.
But here's what I like.
I think Pat Kelsey, their little 12-year-old coach that they have, and Mark,
Pope, I think that intensity could come back here in this one.
I don't think they hate each other, but they're both so energetic that it might come back.
And I think this whole Lafamia Yulville is going to just add fuel to that fire.
I think this is starting to happen with that rivalry.
He's going to get back to where it was at one point.
I don't know if you saw, like, the Onahawk to a guy was complaining.
He didn't even shake hands before the game.
Like, he brought the trash talk to the game for TIPB.
I also got to ask you.
What was my favorite sight I saw of that whole thing is Daniel Orton's mustache.
Oh, yeah.
Listen, we need more Daniel Orton.
He didn't start the fight, but he ended it.
No one wanted a piece of that out.
I would not want Daniel Orton.
He looked like he reminded me of a young Carl Winslow from family.
Get ready.
He lives in Lexington now.
He wants to do more KSR, so there might be more Orton in our future.
I'm for it.
Daniel, you're welcome to come.
All right, 859-280-2287.
The next thing he's going to ask me, well, I'm not giving the phone number.
I don't want you to call.
772-7-7-4-5-254.
The next thing he's going to ask me is the thing that could make some of you mad.
So if you're going to get mad, just turn it off and come back at 11 o'clock.
For everybody else, we do have to talk about what happened in the world while I was gone,
or at least in America.
We'll be right back.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night bases on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He run up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball like,
after you go through a training camp
with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,

Welcome back, Tegi Sports Radio, here live
at the KS Bar and Grill.
Great crowd for a Monday morning.
Be here all week.
Hope to see you.
One person writes, Matt, you said you went to 12 countries.
what was your favorite
Spain?
I love Spain.
I'd never been to Spain.
I'm going to go there as much as I can.
Like it's the best.
Temperature.
Barcelona's awesome.
We went and drove through Bass country
like San Sebastian and Bill Bowell,
me and hubby and his wife Sarah.
And then I went down to the southern coast.
And that was with all the places I've been in the world so far.
Just if you're asking me,
what's my favorite overall place?
I would say space.
How close to do you?
you get to the bulls?
Looks like you were.
So we were in Pamplona during the running of the bulls.
So we did not run, but we saw the bullfighters.
Yeah.
And it was, think about Mardi Gras, but maybe more people.
I mean, it was, it was unbelievable.
If I was, if you're listening to this and you're 18 to 28 or to 30,
take your friends and just go.
because you'll have a blast.
It was a little too rowdy for, like, what I would want to do for a long time.
But if I had been younger, like, it looks like it's the most fun thing in the world.
But even if you're older, just, I mean, the whole city becomes a festival, and it was, it was so cool.
And everybody's playing music and dancing, and it's just great.
That's kind of cool.
You enjoyed Spain, and you got to share it with some of your buddies that were there with you.
Yeah, that was great.
It was, I love Spain.
All right, what's next?
former president assassination attempt
current president drops out
vice president picks maybe our governor
for candidate j d vance i mean here let me pull your string
and let you go
and i'll go through as it happened
i paid no attention to any political news
the first month i was there
i read that the debate was going to happen but again
that was in the middle of the night for me right that was at like
three in the morning so i wasn't going to stay up and watch it
woke up the next day, saw the headlines that Biden had just pooped the bed, right?
And I was bummed because I thought, well, he's going to lose.
I mean, he's going to lose.
If that didn't go, that was his chance, and if that doesn't go well, he's going to lose.
Then I'm sitting at home about to go to sleep one night, and I get the text alert that Trump has been,
somebody's tried to shoot Trump.
And immediately my heart drops, in part because I don't want to see anybody get hurt.
But secondly, if Trump had been assassinated, that would be awful for this country.
I mean, it would be obviously awful for him, but it would also be awful for the country.
Like, it would have divided the country in a way that I don't know how you come back from.
Because the conspiracy theorist, even if it was just, like, they never would have believed him.
I mean, we still talk about JFK 60 years later.
Like, I just thought, I hope he's okay.
Then I see he's okay, and I see the picture of him with his fist up, and I'm like, well, we're definitely losing now.
you know now we have no chance so once i saw he was all right i kind of tuned it out again
and then my thought was trump's the next president and so it was like that's what's going to happen
then when they started talking about Biden dropping out you know i i had mixed i like joe
biden i know a lot of people don't i do i've i've liked him for 40 years or you know since i was a
kids. So when he dropped out, I was happy because he was going to lose. I mean, he was going to lose.
And I was happy about it. But I also was kind of like, man, that's hard for somebody to do, right?
Then J.D. Vance getting picked. Okay. So J.D. Vance, like, I've had him on three or four times.
I until about a year ago, texted regularly with Jady Vance. Like, it's crazy.
to think somebody that you have made jokes with could be the vice president of the United
States. Now, he and I kind of had a falling out about a year ago. Not bad, but we just haven't
really talked since then. I sent him a congratulatory text. He responded. He was very nice. But
that was weird to me. Then Kamala Harris, it looks like it's going to be her. I was a little
bummed because I was like, I don't think she can win. But then I think she's done a lot better
than I would have thought.
Whatever you think of her as a person,
she's just done better than I would have thought.
And now the race looks tied again.
And now tomorrow she's going to decide a vice president.
And Andy, Andy, is one of the three finalists.
Like, I don't think they're going to pick him, but they might.
Apparently, apparently he's had secret service detail around him
because all the potential candidates picked up some extra security in the last week,
all four or five of them.
So apparently he's had that, so he's clearly one of the finalists.
And all I could think about is, what if the two vice presidential candidates are both people who've been on this show multiple times?
Yeah.
I'll go even further.
If she picks Andy, I challenge any show in the country to have interviewed the two candidates more than we have.
You think there's any show that has had J.D. Vance and Andy Bashir on more than us?
No.
I can't maybe like meet the president.
press or something, but that would be it.
So it's wild. It's wild.
And now I think the race is kind of back to what it was six months ago, a toss up,
and we'll see what happens.
If it is Andy, KSR vice presidential debate, get ready, Ryan, get your bell ready.
Well, I will say this.
We have been invited, if it is Andy, to go to the convention.
So we'll talk about it.
It's in Chicago.
So I don't know if we'd be able to pull it off or not.
But it's crazy.
But the biggest takeaway I have about it, and I'm not just saying this,
I thank God that Trump wasn't killed because I just, I don't know what would have happened to this country if that happened.
You know, we just, it's sad in and of itself, but it also would have just been awful for the United States if that had happened.
You know, when Trump announced Vance was his candidate, there was that clip of you and J.D. Vance that went viral.
Okay, so there's another thing. He announces J.D. Vance. I go to bed.
next morning I check my email and there are 25 emails for media members who want to ask me about that interview
asking me where to get it asking me what like do I and I just ignored them all because I you know didn't want to
didn't want to deal with it but that's crazy to sit and hear that's that's an interview I did nine years ago
an interview you did nine years ago all of a sudden showing up in the news is kind of wild I was just
scrolling Twitter that night and it popped up and I was like oh there's Matt and then I listened to it and I thought wow this might
pick up some steam yeah and it's my boy it's not just he was on our show they play the start of it
is my voice and that's also really really strange well you missed a lot definitely in the short time you
were gone in the political world seemed to kind of every day were people like obsessed with it during
that time well i know the day that trump had the assassination attempt i think i couldn't stop watching it
because it is a historical moment you know i remember when ronald regan was a you know and you do
wonder i mean i will say we don't have to go into details i do wonder i do wonder i mean i will say we don't have to go into details i do
wonder how did they not get the guy?
Yeah.
Did you know we had the Secret Service on?
I heard he, I heard Tom had him on, but how did that, how did that happen?
I don't know.
Like, that's also really scary that they could get that close to do it.
All right, we're going to talk some UK basketball.
I spoke with some people who've been in every practice, and I'll tell you what they're
telling you about the team right after this.
