Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio Monday, August the 12th. I am Matt Jones here on an absolutely beautiful day at Boone's Trace Golf Club. I guess this is considered officially Richmond, Kentucky, but it's right there off the Clay's Ferry exit. It is going to be perfect weather today for the Lexington Golf Scramble our annual event. You can give us a shout on the Clark's Pubpit Shop phone line. That's 859-2-80-2287.
Starting point is 00:03:40 The A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine, they're set up right there with the glass cleaner. It's 772-745254 in this edition sponsored. T.J. Smith-Law, this you call T.J. He'll make them pay. Shannon is on vacation this week. So it is me, Ryan, and Drew. And, you know, I think this is our eighth or ninth Lexington. scramble. This will be the 10th anniversary of our Louisville scramble, which was the first one. So we are having our 10th anniversary. I think we did start this one one year later or maybe two years
Starting point is 00:04:10 later. So it's the eighth or night. Beautiful day out here. We've had some really hot weather over the years. We had rain, I think, last year, but I don't think you could ask Ryan for a better situation today. Yeah, we've been out here now, what, three or four years here at Boone's Trey? So it's, it's beautiful right now. And the weather is absolutely perfect for a golf scramble today. It is perfect. Not going to be too hot. Actually, just a tad bit chilly right now, which is crazy in August, but I think it'll be perfect for the golf. Yeah, we've had those days in the 90s recently. I'm glad we don't have one of those, but I love this course out here. I have a friend who's a member.
Starting point is 00:04:43 I'm always hitting them up to bring me out here and play on his dime. It's just a fun track, and I know we always have fun out here. I'm a little worried. You know, I've only played golf once since April, and it was in Spain, and it did not go well. Probably my worst round. You know, I didn't have clubs. so I had to rent clubs. I think they must resize them differently in Spain.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Like the seven iron must be a different, because I was hitting them everywhere. I don't speak a lot of Spanish, but I speak enough to know when people are cussing at me. And I think we had a little bit of that. And it was just a tough round. I played where the Liv Tour had a tournament there. And I played there the next week at that course. And the only person that probably played worse than me was Dustin Johnson, because I see his scores, but it was not a, it was not good.
Starting point is 00:05:33 So I'm hoping today, Drew, is better. Yeah, the yard markers out there are meter markers. That's what it was. It was the meter markers. I've played two rounds this year, and if I told you my scores, you wouldn't believe me. Billy and I went to Valhalla. I don't want to hear you, Brad. No, it's not bragging.
Starting point is 00:05:46 I shot a 101. I would believe that. A thoroughbred club out here. A little easier track than Valhalla and shot a 74. So I've got a 101 and a 74. I certainly believe the 101. The other thing is, I was walking.
Starting point is 00:06:01 I thought, well, I'll get some good exercise. They make some hills on those Spanish golf courses. So I might have abandoned the round at Whole 14. I might have just said, you know what? The last four don't feel like I need to do this today. Well, I asked before we started who's on your team. Got a good team. Got a turkey hunter.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Got Judge Gabe. They're the regulars. But we brought in a ringer today. John Hayne, he's good. We got hubby. Hubby's on vacation. I'm glad because he stinks. And so we brought somebody good.
Starting point is 00:06:29 So we'll be a contender today. Like, we'll be, some of these teams, they'll shoot 19 under. We won't beat them. But we'll shoot well today. I like how you did. You substitute hubby who's as bad as me here with a scratch golfer. He's terrible. I was excited to get here today.
Starting point is 00:06:44 You know, when you walk in, you check in at the front. I went up, and I just wanted to get my shirt. And so I said, hey, how you doing? And the people at the front didn't know who I was. Big content weeks, what do you expect? Which I. That's true. I like that.
Starting point is 00:06:59 I like the idea that, you know, this is our golf scramble, but didn't know who I was. So I was like, you know, it's the, I guess it's the Matt Jones team. Well, you're so skinny, see, they didn't recognize you. They were like looking and going, oh, okay. Are you Gabe, Matt, Jason? Okay, I'm Matt. But still should be a lot of fun today after a great weekend. I don't know about you all.
Starting point is 00:07:21 I don't know if everybody else agrees. To me, I said this last week, but it's even more confirmed after the weekend. Best Olympics ever. It just was the best Olympics ever. Saturday might as well have been called Big Blue Nation Day. University of Kentucky got six gold medals in one day. One day. Six gold medals in one day.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Obviously, you had Sidney McLaughlin. I want to come back to her in just a second. But she wins the 400-by-400-meter relay. And one of the other women on the team, also from Kentucky. What was her name? I don't want to get it. On the relay team? On the relay team.
Starting point is 00:07:57 Not Missy Russell. That is, oh, gosh, I know this. Well, come back to me. We'll come back. Then Maasai Russell won the 110-meter hurdles. Alexis Holmes. Alexis Holmes. She wins 100-10.
Starting point is 00:08:08 So that's three right there. And then the USA men's basketball team wins. And you get three right there. And all three Kentucky guys are play well. Like all three of them, I mean, the three Kentucky guys were three of the six biggest players, honestly, in the game. But let's do. let's do Sydney first. I mean, Sydney was a machine.
Starting point is 00:08:32 The race is tied. They hand her the baton halfway through her leg. It's over. Yeah. It's over. She secretariats them at the Belmont. I mean, it is over. Like halfway through the second leg.
Starting point is 00:08:48 The announcers before it started were like, I'm not sure if Sydney should be the second leg. She's the fastest. She should be the fourth. The coach at Sydney were like, yeah, shut up. Okay, it's over. And it was immediately. That was one of the more impressed.
Starting point is 00:09:00 I mean, I'm not a running, you know, I don't know a lot about it, but that looked amazing to me. Can we crown her now the greatest athlete in the history of the University of Kentucky? I mean, if you judge who's the greatest athlete by how much better are they at their sport than anyone else? She's the greatest athlete in the University of Kentucky history. Yep. I mean, as good as our basketball players have been, it's because our football players have been,
Starting point is 00:09:26 Jenny Hanses. Like, you picked the sport. There's no sport that has had a player at Kentucky that has been that much better at what they do than anybody else than McLaughlin. Would you agree? Yeah, it's just how much she dominates. As we've said, when they do that zoom out, there's still no one in the frame. It's like she's running by herself. And she did it in like 100 meters.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Like it was tied when she got it. And then she was like, bye, it's over. I love the announcers. I think Maria Taylor was saying it a bunch, saying hurdle. you about Kentucky over and over. That's to a, you know, a national broadcast on NBC and she just keeps talking about UK as hurdle you. I love that. Here's one of the things I think's impressive about her. And I said this the other day about, about LeBron. If you're looking at my lifetime, LeBron, to me, LeBron and Tiger are the, you know, of people that are like my generation
Starting point is 00:10:17 are close are the most impressive athletes. Jordan's older, right? So LeBron and Tiger, what I think is so impressive about those two guys is that from the age of like 15 they had all the hype in the world and then they met it yep you know that's something that they they met it okay they had all the hype in the world and they met it Sydney it wasn't that level of hype but she was in the track world like from the age of 15 people kept saying she's going to be next and then she got to UK and I mean when did you ever hear of a track star committing to UK but we did her right we knew that I met her. I did an interview with her for, hey, Kentucky, like one week when she got to UK.
Starting point is 00:10:59 And now after that hype, just like Tiger and LeBron, Ryan, she meets that hype. I think that's really impressive. Yeah, just to live up to it, that's quite a lot of pressure on a lot of. And we see a lot of athletes can't live up to the pressure. She not only has done it. Like, she set the world record, like, for the six times. She keeps getting better and better and better. But that wasn't even this event.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Yeah. This isn't even her event. Right. She was that dominant in an event that's not even high. hers. She's a hurdler. This was just running. Just running. I remember when she committed, we were like, okay, maybe we're going to have to get track a little bit more because of such a big deal. And then I think a lot
Starting point is 00:11:31 of the women that have gone on to win gold, silver, bronze, they went to Kentucky because Sydney kind of opened that door and made it a big track program. So that was awesome. And then the basketball. I mean, how many, how many you all watch the Saturday basketball game live? I don't know if you saw this. The ratings for the
Starting point is 00:11:47 Saturday gold medal game. It was the most watched basketball game in America since the 2017. Cleveland Golden State Series. Was it? Okay? It was more watched than any NBA game. By the way, nine of the other 10 most watched games are college games.
Starting point is 00:12:05 A lot of people don't realize the Final Four is watched more than the NBA finals. This year, the women's championship game was on that list as well. But it's the most watched basketball game since 2017. I have to tell you, Steph hitting those three. That four three The four three did something That I have not done a lot in sports And maybe less than five times in sports
Starting point is 00:12:30 That were not Kentucky I jumped off the couch and ran out of my room I was like those videos you see on TikTok When he took that four three I couldn't believe he took it Drew I couldn't believe he made it And it was That was crazy
Starting point is 00:12:45 Wasn't it? I'm sitting at home by myself And I'm not really that much of an animated person Like you I shouted as loud as I could possibly shout and stood up. Just the fact that he, you know, he had Durant and LeBron calling for the ball. Durant was wide open. The fact that he even took it.
Starting point is 00:13:01 I love Durant's reaction, by the way, when he goes in. He just shakes his head. That might be my favorite shot moment. I don't know. That's one of the best shots I've ever seen. I don't know what I can put in that strategy. He made four threes on four straight possessions. You know, they had cut it to three.
Starting point is 00:13:15 So the first one was big because they needed it. But it was very, here's what I thought was cool about that. It was very cool for me, A, to root for Steph. I've never really rooted for Steph. I didn't really like those Warriors teams, so I kind of, it was nice to get to root for Steph, and then say whether you like these guys or not, watching Steph, LeBron, and Durant play together with Booker and Davis or Booker and Bam. It kind of ended up being both.
Starting point is 00:13:46 It was like, this is what basketball is supposed to be like. And yet, the French stayed with them. and you're watching this Wimbunyama kid and you're like, this is the future of basketball right here. Like, he's next. And he had 26 points and didn't back down. You had random French dudes just scoring left and right. LeBron gets dunked on, which you never see.
Starting point is 00:14:08 That LeBron will never try to take a charge ever again after that. Like, it was just those were such good games. And the Serbia game was even better than that one. It felt like, Ryan, Olympic basketball, I don't know about everybody else, but it had me going during it. I think this is the first time in several Olympics where you could do. I think the whole country really got behind the USA team.
Starting point is 00:14:28 I think it's because the dudes, it meant something to them. They cared about it. They wanted to win this gold medal for you. And by the way, if you're one of these people, and I saw some of them on Facebook, if you were rooting against the Olympic basketball team because of politics, you need to go, like, you literally need to go have, like,
Starting point is 00:14:43 intervention because this stuff is way too serious to you. Like, this is our country's basketball team, and they were fun to watch. And I was proud of the UK guys. You know, Devin Booker, probably next to the big three, he was the most important person on the team. And then Anthony Davis, Anthony Davis, a great Olympic player. Bam got to play. I was so annoyed with the Tatum.
Starting point is 00:15:05 I wish Shannon was here to mock. The Tatum people won. He's a Celtic guy, though. Jason Taim doesn't get to play. That's disrespectful. Like, shut up. We're winning. And Booker's better for this.
Starting point is 00:15:17 It annoyed me. Tyrese Halliburton had the right attitude. He did. He had a great attitude. When you do nothing for the group project, still going to know. He made the joke himself. But on Booker, there was a moment before the game started where that starting five is coming out, and he's standing next to those three legends.
Starting point is 00:15:31 And I'm thinking, we were interviewing that 17-year-old, not that long ago. There were girls licking your car in Lexington just a few years ago. Like, it wasn't that long ago that Devin Booker was like coming. We're in the Bahamas swimming with him, not that long ago. And again, he came off the bench, too. Yeah, yeah. Like, that's another dude who came off the bench. But I just, it was, when you're right, Drew, go back to Anthony Davis, BAM, and Booker.
Starting point is 00:16:02 I remember watching all those dudes in high school. They're pretty much children. I remember their media days at UK when they're coming and they look like scared children walking in. To watch them go from that to the success they're having is a really neat thing. Yeah, I mean, I chased Bam all over. hometown for an interview one time. If you told me I'd be watching that guy. That's right.
Starting point is 00:16:23 You did go. Yeah, you went to his town. I forgot about that. It was just so cool to see them. And then I love Booker at the end of the night after clubbing, hopping on his bicycle and going with two gold medals on. By the way, did you see that? I didn't see that.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Booker went to a club with all the basketball players after it was over. And I guess the players, like either left and went in their cars. And Booker, I guess, had a ride with somebody. And the car was gone. And so he had to jump on a rented bicycle to go home. away. There's a video of him with his gold medals on. There's a video of him with his gold medals on, just getting on a bicycle and bicycling away, which I thought was pretty good. It's awesome. Well, 859-280-2287. I hope you like the Olympics as much as I did.
Starting point is 00:17:03 I got to talk more in a minute about Wine and Tatum and his mom. He got his mom involved, Drew. Your mom, there comes a point. Your mom can't do that. We'll take a break. Be right back. KS.R. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make
Starting point is 00:17:43 the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee.
Starting point is 00:18:16 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:18:45 The story I've told myself about love or relationships can then share. shape my behavior and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown and explore the journey of healing, self-discovery, and returning to yourself. We explore higher consciousness, emotional well-being, and the practices that help you find clarity, peace, and self-mastery in a world that can feel overwhelming. The world is becoming lonelier. We're not becoming. We're not becoming more social and connected. We're becoming more individualized,
Starting point is 00:19:25 but we actually meet people in connection. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole, this podcast is for you. To hear more, listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:19:41 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out help on the internet. Somebody, please! But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor.
Starting point is 00:19:56 I'm a comedian, and recently I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike! I'm a comedian! I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Oh, cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream, cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrat, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from a Hypocrite as part of the MyCultura Podcast Network available on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about Define. odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
Starting point is 00:20:55 And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Starting point is 00:21:29 Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here, Lai. Thank you very much. I get one clap. That's all right. It's okay. Listen, you all are playing in the golf scrabble. You've spent money. I love y'all. You don't have to clap. You can just sit there and go, we paid for the scramble. We don't have to clap. We're fine. A-Fa-9-0-2287. One person mentioned another athlete in that LeBron, Tiger, Sydney, like they were hyped the Williams sisters. They were like that, too. You knew about the Williams sisters when they were. They were like that, too. You knew about the Williams sisters when they were. they were, since they were little, and they actually met the hype as well.
Starting point is 00:22:24 So that's another good example. All right here in our lifetime. We're getting a witness greatness right here in front of our eyes. We're blessed. Yes, we are very blessed. One person writes, Matt, I hope you made fun of Max for the Australian break dancer. It's all I've talked about all weekend. So I kind of, do you, everybody's now seen the video of the one, right?
Starting point is 00:22:47 Like, she's like up there, she's doing the kangaroo. She's doing the sprinkler. like she's doing all that she's wearing like she's wearing like a jumpsuit that like people's parents wore in the 90s like the whole thing was not you know she's out there breakdancing against like 17 year old kids that are spinning on their head and she's you know she's doing the sprinkler um but i've changed my mind on her i kind of now think it's awesome i'm not going to lie to you i mean i watched her little things but she is a 38 year old woman she's a professor and she ended up at the Olympics and if she's smart
Starting point is 00:23:22 Drew she'll get famous from well she's already famous but she'll do and her name is rant Ray Goon like I don't what kind of name is that like that's a crazy name for somebody I kind of think she was awesome and I made Max watch it and I made fun of him the whole time there's been so many great
Starting point is 00:23:38 memes to come out of that I especially enjoy all the reactions but I've been trying to figure out I still don't know if she was serious no she was mocking she was serious she has I've learned more about her so she has a she has a in hip hop and cultural studies, which is also funny. If you look at her, thinking about her in the PhD program for hip hop and cultural studies,
Starting point is 00:24:00 it's kind of funny to me. And she also, I saw the video of the competition she won to make it. Okay? And she was the better of the candidates in the ones. So they interviewed her in Australia, and she said, look, here was her explanation. I knew I couldn't spin around like these other people. So I thought my chance to win was to do something interpretive and unique. I would say that backfired.
Starting point is 00:24:29 But, you know, her theory was like, play stallball against these people who are very athletic, right? I think that's what she was thinking. Well, you answer my question. And what did she do in the qualifying? Did she didn't she do? I saw it. I watched, you can find on the internet, it's going around. She beats a woman in the qualifier.
Starting point is 00:24:45 and if you watch it, she's actually better than the other woman. Like, Australia did not have a lot of great candidates for break dancing, I think. You're right, though. She could turn this into something. If people can go viral for just saying something on the street and make millions of dollars, she should be paid to go to events and do that dance at clubs or wherever. But she did the kangaroo. Like, she literally put her hands up and jumped like a kangaroo.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Did you see where she was almost, she was, like, yawning and almost falling asleep while she was waiting to go on stage? Well, I think she was saying that the person, stage was boring. I think she was like, oh, you're not, but it didn't work. Why not? If she knows, she can't compete against the 16, 17-year-old kid, why not go out there and have fun and enjoy the moment a little bit? It felt like to me if you entered the competition.
Starting point is 00:25:26 I would exactly do that. It felt like if you had been the United States representative, you would have just rolled on the floor and moved as well. Did the worm and did all the other good, the digging taters? Digging taters? What does that mean? We got to see that. We're Mario got a camera on.
Starting point is 00:25:42 On Beverly Hillbillies, she had a big dance where she was, Digging taters. Oh, my goodness. You're the only person I've ever heard to say that. This might have been the oldest thing you've ever got on this. That really is. We'll have to Google it. Beverly Hillbillies, digging tators.
Starting point is 00:25:58 So you get your dance moves from the Beverly Hillbillies, maybe My Three Sons, Yes, yeah. Mr. Ed, something like that. Green Acres, bring it. People wonder why we had to bring on Mario to get young people. It's things like the Beverly Hillbillies digging taters that makes it happen. All right, before we get the phones, I want to talk to be at one Kentucky thing.
Starting point is 00:26:18 A lot of reports this week, Andrew, that we're not going to get Jasper Johnson. Now, again, I mean, these are not my reports. I don't know because I haven't done any recruiting stuff this year. But Jasper Johnson from Woodford County, dad played here, granddad played here, ranked 12th in the country, one of the highest ranked basketball recruits from Kentucky, high-ranked than Reed was, honestly, one of the highest-ranked basketball recruits from Kentucky in a long, long, long time. And it's down to Alabama, Carolina, and Kentucky,
Starting point is 00:26:50 and there are a lot of reports that Kentucky is a distant third to Alabama and North Carolina. A lot of people think Alabama's going to be the one to get him. To lose a basketball player from Kentucky with family ties to Kentucky to Alabama, a football school. I don't know, Drew, that doesn't seem great. No, hard to sugarcoat that one. My understanding has been for a while that Kentucky's running third in the NIL situation there, too,
Starting point is 00:27:18 and that's a big priority for him. I mean, he grew up with Carolina fans. If he went there, it would stink. No excusing that. But at least you can understand a little bit. But if we have to play against him maybe twice, three times a year in the conference at Alabama at school that didn't even really have basketball until five or six years ago. But how is Alabama from a basketball NIL standpoint able to outbid us? like you know i mean i'm with you on north carolina so like john wall and bam grew up
Starting point is 00:27:47 carolina fans ended up here like that can happen i could see how i can i mean rex used to talk about he almost went to north carolina like i can see how a kid from kentucky for whatever reason could end up at north carolina duke maybe even kansas or yukon but to lose him to alabama i i you know to me and i'm i'm going to like look into it some this week. To me, something's, something doesn't make sense about that. It's hard for me to believe that when you're talking about basketball, where you only have a handful of players, that we can't produce the NIL that Alabama can. Football's different. But in basketball, Ryan, is that not surprising? It's surprising. And I don't know this. I'm just
Starting point is 00:28:30 suggesting this week and discuss it. I think Kentucky had a lot of ground to make up once Pope got here. You know, I think maybe Alabama and North Carolina. Well, Cal was not really recruited. right. So, which is another, I mean, you know, he's gone. So how was Cal not recruiting? Like, this is a top player in our state. I mean, this isn't even like a might be able to play basketball. Like, he's really good.
Starting point is 00:28:55 So you're right about that. But still. Adding to it, maybe being Alabama, which would stink, it's just, it's kind of Pope's first shot at a big recruitment and it's in his own backyard. This would be a great way to silence everyone that's worried about recruiting moving forward. make a big splash right away, and it's looking like it's going to slip through a draft. When's the last time we've had two players in our state, higher rank than Jasper Johnson and Malachi Moreno?
Starting point is 00:29:20 When's the last time? The year they, yeah, Scotty Hobson and Bud Mackie. I mean, it's 20 years ago. John Hood. That's 20. And then Malachi Moreno, we may get him, but he's looking at Indiana. And if you were to lose these two kids from your state. In your backyard.
Starting point is 00:29:39 In your backyard. I mean, not just from your state, in the suburbs of Lexington. Scott County and Versailles to Alabama and Indiana. Something doesn't make sense there, Ryan. It just doesn't. Yeah, from perception purposes, I think Pope has to at least get one of those two guys. He can't let them both get out of here. He's got to get one of the two.
Starting point is 00:30:01 With his first recruiting cycle. I mean, like I said, I haven't followed it, really, so I don't know. but like Jasper Johnson's deciding in two weeks. If he picks Alabama, that's going to just be a tough one for me to understand. 859-28027. We will take your calls right after this. We are here at the KSR Golf Scramble. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.

Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, A, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:31:36 quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Brett, my mama want you to weigh better. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. The story I've told myself about love or relationships can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast. deeply well with Debbie Brown and explore the journey of healing, self-discovery, and returning to yourself.
Starting point is 00:32:16 We explore higher consciousness, emotional well-being, and the practices that help you find clarity, peace, and self-mastery in a world that can feel overwhelming. The world is becoming lonelier. We're not becoming more social and connected. We're becoming more individualized, but we actually meet people in connection. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole, this podcast is for you. To hear more, listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Jared Adano.
Starting point is 00:32:56 You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. and recently I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, hope from a hypocrite,
Starting point is 00:33:12 I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man.
Starting point is 00:33:29 If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too skinny. Carrie. Cream of chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit.
Starting point is 00:33:41 This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the MyCultura podcast network available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano,
Starting point is 00:33:57 and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
Starting point is 00:34:25 he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stopped by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball.
Starting point is 00:34:44 Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, here live at the KSR Golf Scramble, 859, 2807. One person writes, Matt, I hate that about Jasper,
Starting point is 00:35:11 but I think Pope likes Brayland Mullins better, so you got to go get the one he likes. I generally agree coaches should get who they like, but we also have to be consistent. It used to frustrate us that Kyle wouldn't go get the best players in the state. Like, you know, tie goes to the runner. To me, tie goes to the guy from the state, like especially if it's somebody.
Starting point is 00:35:31 Again, we don't produce top 50 guys that much. We've had how many top 50 guys we had in the last 15 years? I mean, it's not many. And so you got two this year, Drew, I feel like you do have to make them a priority. And I like Braylumullins and hope they get him. But I think it's just so important to get Jasper as your first recruiting cycle. He's a blue chip recruit in your state that we don't get many of. I think it just would send a big message moving forward if they were to lock him down,
Starting point is 00:35:56 not just to fans, but to other recruits that are kind of curious as to what Popul will look like. One person writes, Matt, in the NIL era, it's all about the money. You have to go get the money. I understand. Okay, fair enough, but this is Kentucky. All right. In the same way that Alabama football fans are on this kick right now, that they're kind of frustrated that it seems like some of their rivals are doing better in NIL and football.
Starting point is 00:36:22 Well, we got to be the same way in basketball. Like, we, you know, there's not going to be an excuse for me of losing players NIL-wise. Now, I mean, you can have to overpay, and maybe you don't want to do that for guys, and I understand all that. But if other basketball programs are doing, NIL should help Kentucky more than anybody. Like, NIL should make Kentucky, Duke, and Carolina should get every player in NIL. So if that doesn't happen, you do have to ask, why is that not happening? That's why can you lay it out? It just seems odd that if it's coming down to NIL money, Kentucky is,
Starting point is 00:36:59 third behind Alabama, one of them that far ahead of them, and in the NIL is trying to get a player regardless who it is. Yeah. And I'm not up to speed on Alabama's NIL, but you think the football program commands a lot of their money. Especially when their football fans are complaining they don't have enough NIL. So real quick, before we go, the phones, did you see the story about George Mason in the Bahamas?
Starting point is 00:37:19 This is kind of a weird story. So George Mason decides to take their basketball team to the Bahamas, like we've done a few times. The team packs up their season. stuff, ready to go, gets the airport, they don't have a flight. They get, that whole team gets to the airport, they're supposed to have a chartered flight, planes not there, when they go to check in, they go, yeah, we don't know what you're talking about. They got scammed.
Starting point is 00:37:45 They literally ordered a trip from a website that was not real. It's close to like $200,000. $200,000, gone. First of all, what a scam. You got a university to pay you for a trip to the Bahab. Did they not talk to somebody on the phone? Talk to the teams they were going to play? You know, the event was supposed to be set up.
Starting point is 00:38:10 I mean, the whole thing was set up, and literally they didn't find out, Ryan, until they got to the airport. Somebody that director of basketball operations has some explaining to do led to get that far and you don't have confirmation. I would love, that's what I want a Netflix documentary about. How in the world did they pull? that scam off to where they didn't find out until they were at the airport. And it's somebody in the Bahamas. Can you track that money down or is that just gone?
Starting point is 00:38:40 I haven't seen it. Did they check to see if they were in the hotel? Yeah, I mean, and you would think if you're selling up for that, okay, what teams are we playing? Who else is going to be there? You know, because when Kentucky goes, there's four or five teams down there. Do they just trust one person that this was happening? That's it. To me, I really do want to know how that happened. Yes. They have Katie Johnson from Auburn now. That doesn't really change much about getting scammed,
Starting point is 00:39:02 but he just feels like a character that that kind of stuff would follow him. I feel like he's going to play college basketball for like 20 years. We're here at the Golf Scramble sponsored by Clark's Pumping Shop. Who's up first, Rick? Tennessee Pete is up first. Hello there, Pete. How are you? Doing good.
Starting point is 00:39:17 How are you guys doing? First time, long time. Who are? What's up? Well, okay, so I've lived in Lexington for about 25 years, and just over the summer we've moved to 10. Tennessee. So swimming in the sea of orange, frankly, it's disgusting. But I wanted to ask you guys' advice about, you know, this is the first time of my life that I've ever been, you know,
Starting point is 00:39:37 not surrounded by my fans, by the beach. And I'm going to Knoxville. We're going to be watching the cats when they come to Neeland Stadium. I'm sorry. I just wanted some advice. How do you, how do you? Okay, so like 66% of y'all have experienced violence at the hands of our rivals. And How do I avoid that? Well, first of all, there's the violence. It's a little different because at least when it's me and Drew, the violence comes to us. Like, they kind of seek us out. So they're not going to seek you out.
Starting point is 00:40:10 I mean, Tennessee fans are the worst. Like, like, they're the worst. I mean, you just have to recognize that. The orange, it's terrible. The rocky top, it'll get in your head. You know, Knoxville's a whole is not a terrible city. Like, so that part's good. but you know just put your head down do your thing but remember you're always outnumbered like that's the thing you can't
Starting point is 00:40:33 you got to be careful i appreciate the call when you're in a road game right right because you're always outnumbered and i don't care who you are there's more of them than there are you so you do have to be a little bit on your peas and cues yeah you're in enemy territory so you got to respect that if nothing else because you are definitely outnumbered when it comes to situation like that i my advice to that guy look out for his shoes because they're bit tobacco on there all over your shoes. They're the worst. Tennessee fans, Louisville fans are, they're not like, well, I say this, and I had an interesting event this weekend happened, so I'll leave it at that.
Starting point is 00:41:07 But Louisville fans, like, they're big fans, but then they move on. Tennessee fans, the Tennessee fandom, is their identity, okay? Like, it is what they are. If you go look at a Tennessee fan's profile, he's wearing a Tennessee shirt, like all of them are. and no one celebrates mediocrity like Tennessee. So it makes it hard with them because you can't get away from it. Louisville's a party fan base. They party at the game, but then they go do something else.
Starting point is 00:41:36 Tennessee people are at their children's weddings talking about how good the defense is going to be this year. Like that's what they are. So it's harder to get away from the Tennessee people. And unfortunately, the College World Series just gave them more confidence. Like Thanos said, in another Infinity Stone or however that works, I feel like they've added a lot of power since getting that title. I have no idea why I said that. I don't even watch Marvel movies.
Starting point is 00:41:57 Did you just throw like a dork marvel? I don't even know if that makes sense. But you know what I mean? It's like they've added more strength that they don't need since winning it. I didn't know that you were like Mr. Marvel guy. Did you just talk about Thanos? I don't know where that came from. I don't even know what that means.
Starting point is 00:42:10 I haven't seen the movie. That just popped out. You really just like throwing Thanos lines out. Anyone here? Does that make sense? Mario, you watch. But you know, that guy knows. They do stick their chest out a lot more since winning that.
Starting point is 00:42:22 and they think they have football going strong again this year. They're adding that big fancy entertainment district to Dalyland. It's like they're just gaining more power. I will say that. I mean, I don't know if you've seen. They're adding an entertainment district around their football stadium. And that's going to be pretty awesome when they get that done. You know, I don't want that at Kentucky because we have this bar and I don't want to compete with it.
Starting point is 00:42:43 We are the entertainment. We are the entertainment. But like that, for the people in Tennessee, that's a good. I don't know how those bars will work because what do you do? The other 357 days that Tennessee's not playing, but for those eight or nine days that they're at home, that will be a really cool atmosphere. Who's up next? Peanut is up next. Peanut, how are you?
Starting point is 00:43:06 I'm good. How you go, buddy? Doing good. What's up? Well, I saw something foul on the Olympics this weekend, and it wasn't just the Australian breakdancers. What was it? Well, I know. They said that the coaches don't get.
Starting point is 00:43:22 a medal for the basketball. I heard that. You know what? It's funny you said that. I heard that too, and I didn't know that. The coaches do not get a medal for basketball or for any of the team sports, which seems a little surprising to me, Peanut. I would think the coaches would get one.
Starting point is 00:43:39 I do, too. They get a ring. Don't see when they win the championship. Yeah. No, I think that's a good point. And by the way, I appreciate the call. Did you see we talked about on ESPN? Do you know what the medals are worth?
Starting point is 00:43:51 So, like, now, obviously, like, LeBron's medal would be worth more because it's LeBron's. But if you're just talking about the metal itself and how much it's worth, take a guess. How much do you think we'll start with the gold medal? You all go on record. How much do you think the gold medal's worth, Drew? $18,000. $18,000. How much do you think it's worth?
Starting point is 00:44:13 I was going to say $300,000. $300,000. All right. Rick, how much do you? $300,000. They'd be given. What do you think of having gold medals? I'll say give away, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:44:24 That'd be a lot of money. Rick, how much do you think it's worth? I'm going to say $50,000. $50,000. All right. I'm not going to tell you the answer because it'll mess up the rest of them. How much do you think the silver is worth? $14,000.
Starting point is 00:44:39 $14,000. I guess I need to drop my prediction, so I'll say it's $20,000. 20,000. Rick, what's your guess? I was going to say $20,000. $20,000. All right. Finally, what do you think the bronze medal's worth?
Starting point is 00:44:51 $5,000, Bob. $5,000. What do you think? 10,000. Rick. I'll say 8,000 for that one. 8,000. The gold medal is worth $1,200.
Starting point is 00:45:02 Not $300,000. The silver is worth $350. And the bronze medal is worth $13. No, it's not. We've got to take better care of our athletes. No. Now, again, it's worth more like from a, well, this was so-and-so's medal like that. But if you're just talking about the raw.
Starting point is 00:45:23 metal itself, it is only Ryan worth $13, the bronze. I'm off on my price of the old these days. I'm a little upset. I mean, we worked hard for four years to dedicate themselves. $13. And they get a trophy you can buy at Walmart. And it's actually bronze. And I don't know if you saw.
Starting point is 00:45:40 People who know more about metals may know this. When bronze gets wet, it like oxidizes and changes colors and et cetera. And this guy was complaining that his metal had already faded. And the people were like, well, that's what bronze does, dude. Like, that's why you don't, A, don't get it wet, and B, like, bronze is cheap. That's why it's $13. I did see some people posting that their medals were already worn down. They hadn't left Paris yet, but I guess do better than 30 points.
Starting point is 00:46:08 But you know what? That's because they're actual metals. Like, that's because that's what. Just get another one. You got $13. Yeah, $13. Just replace it. Pelican Technologies. If you are someone who's subject to potentially a fishing scam,

Starting point is 00:50:50 The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us.
Starting point is 00:51:13 Listen to Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tab Ramos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the KSR Golf Scramble at Boone's Tray, sponsored by Clark's Pump and Shop. Thanks to all of our friends at Clarks. Thanks to all of our sponsors. We've got a sponsor on almost every hole. A Vision Glass is here.
Starting point is 00:51:36 Boone's contracting. KS. Bar is going to be out there. We don't have OVW. We will have OVW at the Louisville one coming up here next week. But nobody has to take a chop today, so you should feel good about that. None of you all will have to get smacked across the head by cash flow. Speaking of cash flow, by the way, in four weeks, He debuts on season two of Tulsa King.
Starting point is 00:52:00 I cannot, I am so excited for that dude. Like, he has a major role in Tulsa King, and he is working to try to get Sylvester Stallone to OVW, which if that happens will be one of the most random things that's ever happened on Earth, right? If there's one guy that could pull it off and convince Sylvester Stallone to come to OVW, I'll leave it's probably cash flow. You know who's become Cash's like best friend? Is the dude, I don't know his name, but he was on. Silicon Valley.
Starting point is 00:52:29 He played the computer IT guy with the glasses and the long hair. If you watch Tulsa King, he plays like the marijuana shop owner. You've seen this guy. He's been in a lot, although you may not know his name. He and Cash are like best friends. They're vacationing together. Like, he's this random actor. I hope this is just the very beginning for Cash's acting career.
Starting point is 00:52:50 We're seeing him in movies and all kinds of things. I actually watched a little bit of Tulsa King last night for the first time ever, just to kind of get ready for his... That's what I did. It's not, I've watched the whole first season to get ready for it. Did you watch, Ryan, the Richmond NASCAR race last night? I didn't. I missed it.
Starting point is 00:53:07 Okay, so Austin Dillon, he drives Earnhardt's old car, right? Like the number three. He comes by, he's in the second place behind Joey Lugano. Or Joey Lugano passes him. When Joey Ligano passes him, Austin Dillon just wrecks him. Just wrecks him into the wall. As he's wrecking him, another guy. passes him and Austin Dillon just wrecks him too he knocks two people into the wall in the last
Starting point is 00:53:32 lap and in both cases the guy had passed him fair and square and he just went you know what wrecking you so when it's over Joey Legano was not happy I bet not what was Joey Legano's nickname I don't know come on we've talked about this worst nickname in sports I don't know slice bread because they said he was the best thing since that's a bad name it's a horrible nickname but Joey Lugano said and this was his quote after the after the after the race I beat him fair and square on the restart, and he pulls a chicken blank move. He sucks. He sucked his whole career. He's going to be in the playoff, and he sucks, but good for him. But good for him. I saw the clip. I don't know. I love that quote. He said he sucks three times, and it goes,
Starting point is 00:54:16 but good for him. Yeah, I know that's probably not in bounds in NASCAR etiquette, but between that, in the fist fight a month or two ago, I mean, they're at least making more noise than they've made in several years. He was pretty brazen, though. He wrecked not only one guy, but two guys on the last lap, and apparently they have his radio transmission from his crew, and on the radio transmission, the guy goes, wreck him. And then the first one wrecks, and he goes, wreck him too. My goodness. Mario carton out there. Yeah, there's no way he could sell that as unintentional. It's very obvious what he's trying to.
Starting point is 00:54:49 He gets right up behind him and spin it. No, and the NASCAR official says they're going to look at it today. Could take the race. I don't know what they're looking at. Like if it's wrong to intentionally wreck him, he clearly did. And when you have the guy on the thing going, wreck him, now wreck him too. I feel like, Ryan, the evidence is going to be pretty overwhelming. The legacy of that car, maybe. If he's driving Earnhardt's old car, that's something Adele Earnhardt would do.
Starting point is 00:55:12 He's not going to mess around. He's going to win the race. Well, back of the day, they encouraged that. I don't know if they would do that now. But it was, if you're not an ASCAR fan, you need to see that finish. It really was Mario Kart, just throwing turtle shells at him as he's going. Who's up next? Brad is up next.
Starting point is 00:55:27 Brad, go ahead, Brad. Yeah, I got a little bone to pick with pickleball ball. I was at a pickleball tournament in Owensboro this weekend, just watching. And a buddy of mine knows him. And he was over in his Navy shirt and white hat. And he's like, that's Pickleball Paul that calls him a KSR. Every time I looked over at him, he was hitting the ball out of bounds or missing the ball. Oh, so you're saying pickleball Paul sucks, like Austin Dillon?
Starting point is 00:55:52 I think he's challenging you to become a pickleball player so he can get an inexperienced opponent that he might have. Well, let's just be real. If I were to play pickleball, I could play twice and I would run him off the court. There's no doubt. Let's set it up. I'm just saying, I'm not going to play. I choose like Jerry Seinfeld not to race, but there would be no problem running him. I've seen Paul.
Starting point is 00:56:17 He could not give me one or two practice times I would run him off the court. I believe it. And about the gold medals and the coaches, the year that Tayshan won the gold. I remember something like all the players gave Coach Kay their gold medals. They did. Yeah, they did. The players who had won one in the past gave their gold medal to Mike Shoshchewski, which makes me vomit, but also shows I appreciate the call that he was pretty respected by him, unfortunately.
Starting point is 00:56:44 I have the caricature T-shirt of that team, and I love it, except it's got Coach K right in the middle. I wish I could just scribble him out. I hated him being part of that greatness. Let me go back. By the way, we're going to start the second hour and talk about UK football had a scrimmage this weekend, some news coming out of it. So Drew will give us an update after the break. But I do want to do something here on the Tatum thing again. There is an age where your mom is not allowed to go into public and complain about your playing time.
Starting point is 00:57:13 And I'm not sure what that age is, but it's certainly the age when you're at least 25 and you've won a championship. your mom cannot go to the media and say my son should be playing more. It's just not allowed. And Drew, I thought that was one of the, if I'm Jason Tatum, that's one of the more embarrassing things that would have ever happened. I think it should stop after middle school. I mean, we all know high school kids whose moms are calling the coach, not playing enough.
Starting point is 00:57:37 I think when they get to high school, you should stop. So certainly Jason Tatum is way past that age. First team all NBA wins the championship, and mom is in the press going, My son should play more. Like, you can't do that. I wish Shannon the dude was here. This is his topic.
Starting point is 00:57:53 He needs a mom. Yes, but he's a Celtics fan. He's a Celtics fan. I think he would defend him. But the thing is, he should have set the bitch. They needed somebody to stand in the corner, hit threes, and play defense. And Booker's better at that than Tatum. That's the bottom line.
Starting point is 00:58:10 And the, like, people act like he's owed playing time. I felt like I was listening to Cal, talk about Khalil Whitney, the way. people were dealing with Tatum, like that he somehow is, you know, you don't want to break their spirits kind of thing. Like, sorry, dude, you weren't good enough. We're playing the right guys. Booker was amazing. Kerr called him out in the press conference, made a point to talk about how valuable Booker
Starting point is 00:58:31 was and all the other stuff other than scoring. So, moms, after 14, don't complain about playing time. We will take a break. Come back. Talk football next here on KSR.
