Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287.
Got a couple open lines.
You know, since I've been back, text machine's been full.
flowing.
Rate audience has been great.
Phone line's a little slow.
I'd love to talk to you all.
I missed your voices.
859-280-2287.
Get in and say hello.
One person wrote me the other day and said, Matt, I feel like European Matt is still
not being nice on the phone.
And I was like, so I've tried, I'm trying to be really nice now.
It was just the one person.
I can't remember.
The one person who said I should call him coach.
But besides that, I feel like I'm, I feel like I'm a bit.
be really nice. What do you mean? I think
European map is still here. There's
no doubt about it. Oh yeah, definitely. Definitely
still here. All right, let's
talk for just a second about the football
scrimmage. They had their first
major football scrimmage this weekend.
I heard
I heard almost nothing about it, but Drew I know
you report on. So give our people
for people who didn't see anything
about the first major UK football
scrimmage, what should they know about it?
Well, I know Ryan wants
to say it, but I'll go and said for him.
Everyone keeps saying Dane Key is just a grown-ass man now and get ready for his junior season.
It's not just the Ryan hype.
That's a big takeaway a lot of people have had from watching them so far.
Me included at Media Day, he just looks like a different human.
They shared a clip.
Has he gotten bigger?
Much bigger.
Okay.
Van Griff might have been the MVP on Saturday we're hearing, which is good to hear.
I almost wondering if they're intentionally not saying much about him because it's been kind of quiet about him.
Whereas last year, it was definitely this, definitely this.
Look at that. Oh, look at this. Ball never hits the ground. I must have heard that a hundred times last fall, and then the ball hit the ground a lot in the season.
The one thing I've heard about Lerry, or excuse me, Van de Griff is that he actually started camp kind of slow, and there was a little bit of like what's going on, but that it has gotten much, and they feel like he's getting in a rhythm and then played very well Saturday.
DJ Waller, the cornerback transfer from Michigan, did not play, but Stoop said it's a slight injury, nothing to worry about.
but that's someone we're excited to get out there.
It could even be the cornerback, too, moving forward if he can get out there.
Max's boy, the punter, Aidan Leros.
Yeah, that's what we're hearing.
Is that how we're saying it?
So are we back?
Everybody owes Max.
When you see Max, you owe him a big pat on the back because we may have one of the best punters in the country,
and Max is the one that got him here.
He's a South African kid.
Ryan, we're here and can kick the snout out of it.
Yeah, you heard Max talk about him on the show the other day.
UT Martin and he was about to go to Murray State and then Max made a phone call.
So hey, you need to look at this guy. This guy is really good.
And here we go. Bring him on.
I mean, they've figured everything out but the punting recently.
Alex Raynor's been a great place kicker.
Obviously, Barron Brown return game.
But punting has been lacking since Max.
Sounds like they might have fixed that issue moving forward.
There was an injury.
It's come out that it's the wide receiver Hardly Gilmore.
Hardly.
He's just a freshman.
But he, I mean, he's got a lot of football ahead of him.
He enrolled when he was 16 years old.
which is crazy to be playing SEC football at 16.
He probably wasn't going to play this year.
Well, he was moving his way up.
He would have gotten some looks, but it's, you know, it's not, it's, you hate it for him,
but he still has a lot of football life ahead of him.
You know, defensive line had three significant injuries before camp,
but it seems like they're just rolling on without him.
I mean, you've got big D on.
You have so many big names there, but there's one.
I got to pat myself on the back at Media Day.
I kept going, who is number 99?
No one is talking about this guy.
His name's Kendrick Gilbert hadn't played much,
But since Media Day, they're bringing him up in interviews.
He shined to get on Saturday.
That's a guy.
I just watched him in a few drills here and there,
and he just had so much energy.
He was bringing more than anyone I saw on that defensive line.
So watch him just a sophomore.
Overall, it sounded really good, though.
Stoops finally had to address the NCAA issue.
He's like, I'm not dodging it, but that's three years ago.
I got to worry about the now.
He said he's disappointed that all the hard work.
Sounds like dodging it.
Basically, what do you want me to say?
We all know what happened, that we've been punished.
My focus is on this team.
I said he's disappointed that it happened with, you know, all the hard work that went in those teams.
That was his first public comments.
But I'd say really the big thing is after a quiet few weeks of Vandergriff so far, it sounded like he really shone on Saturday.
Yeah, so the two things I heard, you kind of hit them both.
Hardly.
Hardly, Gilmore.
Oh, Kendrick Gilbert.
Kendrick Gilbert.
I had someone who was at that scrimmage say, tell your listeners, remember the name.
Kendrick Gilbert because they're going to hear it all year. And I said, good, because that's the first
time I've heard that name. And so now I will remember it. Kendrick Gilbert was the name. Do you know
who that is? No, I do not know the name. I didn't know who it was. And apparently, where did he come
from? He was a pretty highly ready to recruit. He's from Indianapolis area. So he's in our, been our
program. Yeah, just a year. You know, there's a lot of depth there. But, you know, I don't know how to
spot a defensive line. And I have, I don't even pretend to know. But at that media day practice,
I went up to Luckett.
Like, who in the heck is that?
So, I mean, he is turning heads of even people that don't really know what they're watching.
And then Brock Van de Griff was the other one, that he, you know, there had been, if I'm going to be honest, when I called people on Monday and was like, all right, tell me about what I missed in football.
There'd been a little like, I hope Brock Vandergriff's good.
There'd been a little of that kind of talk.
And then I think he set a lot of people's nerves down on Saturday.
There was just felt like that when they kind of felt like when he got in that action, he was.
look good. You know, Gavin Wimson, I think, struggled on Saturday quite a bit. I had, like,
from what I heard, a number of turnovers. They'd get in the red zone and then there'd be a turnover.
But they felt really, really good about Brock, and he has literally shown improvement every single
practice. The common theme, though, is there's worry, right, about the offensive line.
Like, there's just worry about this offensive line and how good are they going to be because they feel
like, look, we got all the positions.
We've got to have an offensive line that gives them time.
I think they've got some guys there.
They've kind of moved some positions around a little bit.
I think once they finally get some continuity there that they'll be fine.
But you're right.
The offense, though, the conversation starts and ends with Brock.
I mean, if he has a good year, this team will have a good year.
If he struggles a little bit, then we may be in for some struggles this year.
I think the conversation is all about him.
If he's able to succeed, they'll have a great use.
One thing with him and Bush Hamden, they both talked about this.
The rules have changed in college football where they now can.
and use tablets and actually show video.
They have headsets where they can listen.
Let's talk about that for a minute.
Vangelgraf mentioned how it'll help.
Remember, they always turn to the sideline.
They don't have to do that anymore.
One of the big problems in Kentucky football and offense the last five years,
maybe going back even longer, is Mark Stoops, his teams have just gone so slow that there's
been a lot.
How many times did we see over the years the quarterback would look and wait on whether it was
Liam or whether it was Andy Graham.
or whatever.
People would just be sitting there going like this,
like Scangarillo was maybe the worst of all of them about it.
Now, just like the NFL, they have the speaker system in the helmet.
So that shouldn't be a worry, that kind of looking and going, what, what, what?
I actually think that'll be a blessing to me.
Because I used to, if you're at the home games with like eight seconds left on the play clock,
you would hear the crowd go, why are we still looking to the sideline?
That shouldn't happen now.
slowest team in the country last year.
So, yeah, you speed that up, you get more plays,
and move it more effectively.
So it sounds like, though, that Hamden is a guy that's kind of more on the technology,
kind of more in touch with how the modern game is played.
It helps the rule change, but he talked about that a lot last week.
I guess they used to only be able to show photos.
Now they can just show you the whole play and, you know, help you out on the sideline.
That was, by the way, one of the dumbest rules.
Like, there's technology that has iPads, but you can't use them.
You have to use still-frame photos, like go to Kodak and put them.
in the one hour photo
run over there at GA
go and like put him in a dark room
and then come out and like
we have the play on our phone
and they're not allowed to show it on the sideline
Ryan they finally change that rule
yeah but I think you're right you know
Vandergriff was throwing dots on the sun
Saturday dots throwing dots
and he's got some he's got some
weapons out there I look forward to
Dan keep talking about the Mackling guy
the guy from North Texas and like he's going to be a superstar
I mean I love Dana and Barry on
but that guy might, at the end of the season, might have better stats.
He's just in the same.
I think there's a decent chance.
He probably won't lead the team in touchdowns or crazy plays,
but it's not crazy to think the Macklin kid leads him in yards, right?
Just because he'll be the kind of underneath getting the ball probably a lot.
Yeah, for fitting right in then where Tavion Robinson was,
taking that spot and getting in the slot and making some plays.
And one thing on Barry on, I don't think I said this on the show,
but he has said himself, like, you know,
it kind of wasn't fair the version of me that the last two-quarterback
Scott, because he seems to be very mature and taking this very seriously this season and saying
the Vandergris is getting the best version of Barry on Brown.
Well, it reminds me, what I've heard about Barry on Brown reminds me of what happened
with Limboden because, like, Lynn Bowden from moment one was the most Uber talented guy
at Kentucky.
But he, I think himself would tell you he did not work that hard.
And then all of a sudden he kind of clicked in when I guess they had a pro day after
his sophomore year, and the pro scouts were like, yeah, you're not in good enough shape.
And, like, they sort of said stuff to him, and he locked in, and then that next year was the
year that he took off, and, you know, we remember how great he was that year.
I don't think Barry on was at that extreme.
But, Ryan, I've heard there was kind of a similar sort of click-in, maybe at Pro Day,
some of the NFL scouts saying, dude, you've got to work like an NFL player, and maybe he's
bought into that.
I think there's a lot of truth to that.
And I think these guys realized going in their junior year,
hey, our next step is going to the NFL, so we better get ready for it.
And I think I've seen it with Dane and Beron, man.
They've worked harder this offseason.
Like Drew said, their bodies are in better shape.
They're bigger.
They're faster.
They're stronger.
They both took it very serious than they're in the off season.
We often think about Pro Day about the guys going to the draft.
But what people don't always realize is for the first time NFL scouts start to lock in on the next year's guys.
and they often, and Vince, I think Vince and Mark encourage this,
they sit down with the younger guys and go, okay, you want to play in this league,
here's what you've got to do.
And a lot of times you see kind of a check-in there.
I think it happened with Dionne Walker two years ago,
and I think it's now happening with this as well.
859-280-2287.
Who's next, Rick?
Got Steph up next.
Steph, how are you, Steph?
Hey, Matt. I'm glad to have you back.
Thank you.
Thank you.
And I had state, I had regional, my top all tournament regional this weekend.
We got bronze medals, so no state.
13 dollars.
Yeah, that's what you got.
Stebb, you got $13 you can go with that bronze medal.
Yeah.
And, yeah, I watched some of the U.S.
say men's basketball game yesterday i thought they looked pretty good um i'm not a big step
fan but um i i'd root it for him well i mean how could you not root for him when he's shooting like
that it was absolutely uh it was absolutely awesome so i i thought it was amazing
yeah um but um i wanted to say we miss you we're glad you're back all right i appreciate it
thank you very much who's up next elijah is up next elijah how are you elijah boy
Look at Drew's dad's pants.
Hang on just a second.
Nobody has more golf flags.
Elijah, where did you, Mike, where did you get those shorts?
You look like that is.
Hey, look at that.
He's actually a tame look for him.
You can see.
Oh, and you're saying, hey there.
Your sister's here.
How are you doing?
Yeah, I brought in a long hitter from the Red T's.
Yes.
I see all at the gold medal ceremony.
I didn't know you were here.
Good to see you.
Okay, go ahead, Elijah.
I'm just, I just had a quick question.
You guys were talking about the football.
there in the scrimmage. I didn't hear you guys say anything about the run game and the kid from
Ohio State. Yeah, well, what about that? Run game, Ryan. I mean, we don't hear as much about it.
I think that everybody believes the kid from Ohio State's good, but there's a depth issue there, right?
That's it. Chip Train him is the running back. He's going to be the number one guy, but there is a little
depth issue. I was hoping that they keep talking about this freshman, the guy that's coming in,
that they're really like that may end up being number two in the depth chart.
And you have the kid from last year, the NC State.
Carbair.
We got that name down, right?
No.
ESK.
There's a clear number one and two, but there's still a little bit of death concern,
not death concerns, my goodness, depth concerns,
and not really a big, you know, stable workhorse like we've had a lot of the last few years.
Yeah, I mean, this is going to, just by necessity, this is going to be a team that throws the ball more.
I mean, like we've said, you got to think about how spoiled we've been at running back.
Even going back to Boom Williams, right?
Like Boom Williams, Benny Snell, Chris Rodriguez, and Ray Davis.
That's a run of eight years, nine years of great, great running backs.
Will these guys be like that?
I hope so.
But chances are you're going to see a little step back in running game,
and I think, Ryan, that's why the passing game is going to be even more important this year.
No doubt about it.
That's why it's good to hear that Van der Gryph maybe he had a good Saturday.
Maybe he's picking things up a little bit because that's going to be their bread and butter.
He's got those guys out there.
He's got to use them.
And the tight ends, man, they're loaded at tight end, too, in the receiving game.
Yeah.
So for those of you who've wondered, why don't we push the pace more?
Why don't we throw it more?
I don't know that they're going to have a choice but to do that this year
because it's not – you're just not going to be able to just give it to those guys
and get the breakaway plays that you've always gotten.
Did Rodriguez ever get stopped for a loss?
They're always falling forward.
Like once ever.
They'll lack that.
But I think our top two guys, Chip and Demi, might be.
be better pass catchers. So we'll just see how it looks.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
live the KSgar Golf Scramble.
Brought to you by Clark's Pump and Shop.
It's really nice. This is always one of my
favorite days. Get to see a lot of
our biggest fans,
all of our sponsors that help make
this show happen. Have a presence here.
Got two guys out here smoking cigars
right in front of it. That's not a bad way to do on a
Monday morning, right? Like you just come out here
and play golf and smoke cigars.
That's not bad. You know, it's cool
to see a lot of familiar faces. These guys that have
played in this tournament year after year after year.
There are a couple of groups in here that
have played every single year we've done it.
That's awesome.
And in Louisville, there's a bunch of groups that have played every single year we've done it.
So I appreciate it.
Everybody, it's always, best thing about this show is the fans and the camaraderie of all of it.
And I'm really excited for the first football game of the year, getting to see everybody
at the KS Bar.
Those are my home football games are probably my favorite days of the year when it comes to doing this
because it's just a great time and a great atmosphere.
One person writes on the text machine, 772-74524.
Matt, big question for you.
You're going to watch Trump be interviewed by Elon Musk tonight on Twitter.
No.
Next question is, I mean, you knew the answer to that before you asked, didn't you?
It's Monday Night Raw.
Caleb Williams playing for the Bears.
Do you think you all have, finally have a quarterback?
Yes, we're the best team in the league.
Caleb Williams is good.
I watched some of that game.
I know it's preseason
but he'll be he's got a chance to be the best we've had since
a funky QB named McMahon
that first episode of Hard Knocks was entertaining too
they really did load up offensively in the offseason
it's going to be a remarkable turnaround if that works out
and how about our boy Brendan Bates in the mix
but he got hurt during the game I didn't see that
I don't know I don't know how bad the injury is but
he went down during the game so
he was doing so well because he was he they were talking about him
on hard knocks some
Well, Druid mentioned it.
I didn't even know he was with the Bears, and I thought, well, here you go.
You got a chance to play big guy.
That's one of the guys you kind of forget about the play to here.
The Hall of Fame game, they target him twice, caught both of them for 47 yards,
then he was all over hard knocks.
So I thought there's a lot of potential there.
So Mario here is going to be on 18 with Ryan.
So for those of you that don't know, every year at the KSR golf scramble,
Ryan is on 18.
And wherever your team is putting for birdie, assuming you're putting for birdie,
Ryan putts with you.
You basically get an extra fifth putt on 18.
But I want to do something today.
Okay.
All right.
36 groups.
Yes.
Because we have two on each hole.
36 groups.
Ryan's going to make a, it's going to take a put with the team on every hole.
Wherever they are.
So like it's kind of beyond your control where they hit the ball.
Oh, yes.
Here's the question.
How many putts out of the 36.
groups, does Ryan make his putt? Not does the group make his putt, but of the 36 attempts he'll
get. Now, remember, it could be that you have to chip. Like, some people may miss the greens,
but of your 36 birdie attempts, how many will Ryan knock in the hole? What do you think, Drew?
I'll go four. I think there will be a few tap-ins, and you're going first every time, so you're
getting all 36 looks. I think you'll make like a 15.
14 footer because you're probably going to sit up there in practice all day.
So I'll say four in total.
I'm going to go one.
First of all, I've set with you in Somerset.
You're really bad.
And, all right, so let's assume six or seven groups don't hit the green.
You ain't making that.
Nope.
Anything outside of 10 feet, you ain't making that.
Nope.
And then inside of 10 feet, I'm going to guess you probably get six or seven looks at it
and you knock down one.
That's what I'm going to say.
I'm going to say you get one out of 36, and we're going to have video proof because Mario's filming them all.
Highlight video coming.
How many do you think you're going to get?
I can remember it this whole last year.
I mean, it's tough.
I had maybe four or five that were less than 10.
Most of them were 10 to 20.
And how many did you make?
One.
One.
So actually, I think I have a good guess.
I believe in you right.
Mario, what do you think?
How does he make out of 36?
Five.
Stop.
Mario clearly didn't see put for prison.
and five.
How far out was a punch for prison?
I forgot.
Five feet.
Oh, my goodness.
And he missed all of them.
He missed all of them.
And honestly, four of them weren't close.
He got worse.
That's another thing you remember.
Like, you would think if you're sitting in a green all day, you'd get better.
He gets worse as each round.
Like, you put worse as the day goes on because you sweat.
Well, I think I have a disadvantage work since I have to go first.
See, I show everybody the line.
That's my main goal.
No, but you're sitting there all day.
You should learn how the green breaks and you don't.
You should know the line before they get there.
You actually start to read the green worse the longer you sit there.
Yeah, because we're all over the place.
There's never two putts the same.
It's always a different.
I know that's how golf works.
Yeah, like you know everybody doesn't hit in the same place.
So I predict one.
Do you have a putter to practice with?
No.
You're just waiting until they come up.
No, no, you use, he'll use one of the putters of the group.
Well, I'm saying it'd be nice if while you're waiting, you were getting some reps in.
But if you're not getting your reps in between four is way too high,
I thought you'd be over there all day practicing.
Because you don't have any golf clubs, right?
I stranger putter every day.
Oh, boy.
Four's way too high.
Yeah, one is.
First of all, if you get one, I expect a celebration,
because I'm not sure you're even going to get one.
859-28027.
Who's next?
Kentucky Cat is up next.
What's going on, Kentucky Cat?
Good morning, guys.
Good morning, guys.
I got a scenario for you I've been thinking about.
Matt Jones.
Yes.
You're picked to participate in two Olympic events.
All right.
Ping pong and breakdancing.
Team event.
You get to pick one person from your team there, you guys, Matt and all them, I mean, Ryan and all them, to be your partner.
Who's going to be your partner to breakdancing?
Mario's going to be my partner.
As a matter of fact, I'm not sure there's another person on this stage that would even be allowed in the building for break dancing.
So I'm going to take Mario and break dancing.
I don't know that I've seen any of you all play ping pong, but I'm just going to guess that of these guys,
guys, Drew is the best at ping pong.
I'm just going to guess Billy would be second for me.
I'm probably better at ping pong than all of you,
but I would say Drew, having played tennis,
and I know it's a completely different thing,
but understanding, I would guess that Drew is second.
If you were beer pong, I haven't played ping pong maybe five times a moment.
Yeah, but Ryan's not coordinated.
That makes a big difference for me.
Although he did play baseball.
Are you good at ping pong?
Yeah, we played ping pong up in, I think we were,
PFT was with us, and we played, you and I played,
you and I played a little ping pong. That's right. We played
it was me, you and PFT commenter.
That's right. We did play ping pong. But you weren't good.
I'm not bad. Yeah, pick him.
Oh, you want you?
Yeah. All right, so then I'll take Ryan. But break dancing.
Who would I take last in break dancing?
I feel like Billy's the worst dancer. Just looking at him? I don't know.
Billy would tell you he's the best, though. He's got that confidence.
He does have a swag about him. He'd do the kangaroo and make people think he knew what he was doing.
We'll take a break. 859-2-8-0-2-2-287.

Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio, here at the KSR Golf Scramble.
We are just three weeks away.
way from opening football game of the year. It's coming early. You know, there'll be 14 weeks
to the season, 12 games. We have two by weeks this year. Normally, you only have one by week.
You get two by weeks this year. Also, right after the championship games, you'll have playoff
games for the first time. We're going to have the NFL. I don't know if people even realize this.
The NFL this year is going to have Friday night games. So you're going to have NFL on
Thursday night, Friday night, and Sunday and Monday.
So now basically you're going to have football games every night
except Tuesday and Wednesday during the year.
This will be the most football, Drew, that you could possibly watch.
I just saw Billy dance.
I don't even want to know what that was.
That was one of the worst things I've ever seen, Billy.
What was that?
Were you clogging?
That was horrible.
Anyway, I don't think he thought I saw.
that. More football this year than ever. Are you excited about that? Can't wait. I've been watching
just meaningless preseason games of teams I don't care about. I love that it's almost here.
We're 19 days from UK's first game. I love that it's a night game. A lot of times that
first one's at noon. We're going to get an all-day tailgate that I know fans have been craving.
Heck, those tents have been put up around the stadium for two months now. Yes.
And it's almost finally time to get over there and get it started. I can't wait to have the new
blue LED lights. Those lights look cool when I saw that video. That's that. That's
looked really good. I had a mole that got to be on the field when they were debuting them,
and he showed me the video of what it looks like in there and Grove Street was playing. It's just
going to be really awesome this season. By the way, speaking to Grove Street, on Wednesday,
Wednesday we're going to do our unpopular opinion day, so I want you to be thinking about
what is your unpopular opinion. And what I've already gotten is somebody said they thought we
play Grove Street too much, that they don't think Grove Street should be our song. Do you agree or
disagree with that opinion. I totally disagree. We finally have something that kind of just
happened naturally, and the fans love it. I think, I don't think it's overplayed at all. Yeah, the way it
just came so organically, and we've all embraced it, and like, you know, we have seven-year-old
people in East Kentucky singing Walk a Flock of Flame. It's been pretty perfect. I do want more
of Never Leave Harlan Alive, though. That has been my favorite addition to UK Athletics. I guess
it's about a year or two that they've been doing that, but I hope they work that in even more.
I really like the way the SEC has now done the schedule where you're guaranteed.
You only play one noon game at home and one noon game on the road all year.
And we already know our noon games.
I mean, our noon games have already been scheduled.
So we play the fourth game of the year, whoever that is that against Ohio.
That game's at noon.
And then we play Ole Miss at noon.
But every other game on our schedule is guaranteed to either be 3 o'clock or later.
So, you know, not noon games, especially noon home games, I just think are a tough thing for our fan base to do.
We don't usually love it.
And to only have one, Ryan, I think is going to make this a really good thing for the football team and the excitement.
Yeah, I think the fact we get maybe some more games in that 3, 3.34.
Yeah, there's going to be a lot more of those.
That's perfect.
You know, used to be if you didn't play, if you weren't on CBS, you didn't play at 3.30 because that was a, like, it was either new.
or seven. Now we're going to have a bunch of games. I mean, I think our South Carolina game is at
330. So we're going to have a lot of games at 330 now because that there will be games on ABC
and ESPN at 330 and we probably, to be quite frank with you, will probably play at 330 a lot
on ESPN, Drew, just looking at the new schedule. And for the diehard tailgators, that noon
game is actually at 1230. That 30 minutes can mean a lot when you're trying to tailgate for one of those
first games. And then the road game, I don't think you can get a better noon one because it's
Ole Miss, a high-powered offense with a good tailgate. That's you could ask for.
Locally, that's an 11 a.m. game. So as, I mean, as Kentucky fans like to go down there,
that's not the best situation, but for the team, I think that's a great scenario if you're
trying to pull off that upset. If you would have, if you, if you would have told me,
what's the best chance to beat Old Miss? It would be exactly this. Playing them at noon,
which, again, you got, as Drew just said, that's 11.
AM there. And they're just waking up because a lot of them have been tailgating and party in the
night before. So that atmosphere, I remember when we went two years ago, it was quiet in there
until the second half. When the game started, there were empty seats everywhere because people
weren't even in the stadium yet. One thing unique about the Grove is when they get those early
games, they tailgate after. It's just a known thing. Okay, we have an early game. We'll tellgate till
six after the game.
So, I mean, I'm glad they do that because I don't think you're going to get as
rowdies as a crowd as you would have.
That would have been a 7-30 game.
Yeah.
So I think that's going to end up helping out Kentucky a lot.
Saw a story that made me think of you all.
There's a big lots.
Have you ever been to Big Lots?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah, I go.
Mike Franklin over there.
Wait a minute.
You're a big lots person, Mario?
One time.
Big Lots is closing 400 stores around the United States.
States. They say big lots may. Apparently people are now either only going to like your Walmarts,
your targets, or Dollar Generals, and the things in between like Big Lots are getting crushed.
And it's the downfall of Big Lots. Apparently it's collapsed in the last six months. Are you sad
to see the end of Big Lots? I think so, a little sad. It seems like that's kind of more rural community
kind of place. You can't get to Walmart. We can go to Big Lots a lot closer. Let's just go there.
The Big Lots in Hamburg is closing, and it's a big deal to my dad and mother-in-law.
They are crushed.
They were Big Lots regulars, and it is a thing that they are gone.
I don't think I've ever been into a Big Lots.
What do they sell?
A little bit of everything.
Is it like Walmart?
I think I worked at Big Lots in Madsville now that I think about it.
You don't know if you worked at Big Lots?
You know, I dip my toe in a lot of different industries there for a while.
Oh, a lot of different industries.
I have a table from Big Lots that I bought in college, and I still use it.
If you come over to my house, you might sit at a Big Lots table.
I like that you say you dipped your toe into a lot of different.
different industries.
A lot of different careers.
Okay.
So you think you worked at Big Lots?
I did a lap around Big Lots, but Sam Goody was next door, so I moved over to Sam Goody
and worked there for a year.
But, again, having not been, is it Walmart or is it like?
Like a condensed Walmart.
Yeah, a little bit of everything.
Scaled down version of Walmart.
Okay.
Like when the OVW was there and you sent me out to buy some fans, I went to the Big Lots
there on Harrisburg Road and buy, because they had those portable fans.
Is that one closing?
I don't know.
No, that one's staying because my parent, they're going to have to drive across town now.
All right.
Well, RIP.
It's a big deal in Hamburg.
We're losing one of our, one of our.
But I thought everything worked in Hamburg.
How's it not working?
Like, everyone lives out there now.
It's just, it's showing you the decline of people going to places like that.
And speaking of everyone living there, I meant to say this, I meant to say this the other day.
So my mom came to town.
And, you know, my mom, when she comes, I like to take her, like, like, we like to eat some.
She likes to try the restaurants, you know, because Middlesbrough doesn't have the, I mean, it's got great, right, but it doesn't have, like, a massive selection of restaurants.
So when she comes to town, I always let her pick where we go.
You know, sometimes we're at KS. Bar, because we're there, but then she wanted to go to the new Carson's out in Andover.
And so for anybody that doesn't know, Carson's, which is one of the most crowded restaurants in Lexington, they have a new location out in Andover.
So we went out there, it's beautiful.
Like, it's like, just from a decor inside, it might be the nicest restaurant.
Wow.
Just if you're just talking about what it looks like inside, it might be one of the nicest restaurants in Lexington.
And I like their food a lot.
The reason I bring it up is we're eating and sitting at the booth right across from us is a family.
And my mom recognizes the woman.
And so I think I've said to you before that my mom was one of two women that were the first elect feet.
female elected prosecutors in the state of Kentucky.
In 1993, think about this.
In 1993, every prosecutor in Kentucky elected was a man.
And two women ran in eastern Kentucky.
All right.
People say the mountains are behind, but they ran in eastern Kentucky.
And they won.
And they were both under 40 years old, and they became the first two women to be an elected prosecutor.
Well, sitting in the booth next to us was that one.
was the other one. Her name is Anna Deskins Melvin. And my mom hadn't seen her in a long time,
really since they both retired. And I got up and they really, you know, they had a bond because
they were the first two, uh, two women to do it. I got to take a picture of them. I posted it online.
And I wanted to have a picture because, you know, history. I mean, whether, like now,
it's different. You know what I mean? Now I'm sure there's a lot of women prosecutors. Now, you know,
there could be a woman president.
Like, it's a different situation.
But in 1993, for those two women in Bell County, Kentucky,
and Johnson County, Kentucky, to run for prosecutor and win,
I just thought it was awesome.
And it was really nice to get to meet her because I'd never met her.
And then to have a picture of the two of them together.
Well, I'm glad you did.
That's kind of history, Kentucky history right there,
the two women that kind of open the door for other women to follow.
Yeah, because there was a sense of, like, prosecutors have to be tough, right?
Like they're these tough, whatever.
And what I think is impressive is to not only for them to do it, but to do it in the mountains.
Yeah.
Where it was even harder, where there was sort of a stereotype of that's not what women should be doing.
I just thought it was neat to get to see the two of them.
And so Anna Deskins Belvin and Karen Green Bondale, all three named women to do it.
Yeah, I saw you post that yesterday.
No surprise.
There's a proud son that you were quick to put that out there because I know how proud you are of your mom
and then getting to meet her Anna Deskins, too.
Tell me about Stockton Mortgage.
Stockton Mortgage.
I had just a Texas morning coming out of there.
Ask me, you can Stock to Mortgage if the guy I recommend is in Lexington,
can he do a home equity loan for me in Louisville?
Did you tell him no?
I said, absolutely they can.
You probably said no, he can't.
No, I said, yes, you can't.
You probably were like Stockton Mortgage.
You should just call, like, someone on a phone.
It'll be easier because then you get different people every time and it'll be better.
Is that what you said?
I didn't say that.
No, I said you were the same guy throughout the process.
I thought having different guys through the process would be better.
No, no.
Oh, I wouldn't.
No, you want to have the same guy?
It's easier.
But from what I've heard, though, stock to mortgage is like getting smaller.
Oh, no, they're growing.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, yeah, they're growing.
They're across the state, Matt.
So, yeah, even if you're in Louisville.
Oh, see, I thought they were just like in one spot.
Oh, Matthew Harper Jones.
No, no, no, no, no.
They're growing.
They're in many, many, over 20 states now, even as a matter of fact.
So even if you live in Louisville, you can use a guy in Lexington.
and they'll streamline the process to make it so easy to get you to the finish line.
I've got to make the process hard.
Will they stay with me through the lifetime of my loan?
The life of your loan.
See, how?
They quit as soon as they did it.
No, no, no, no.
Yeah, it's amazing.
So apply online, Stockton.com, NMLS, 8259, equal housing lender.
You got to do better with the commercials because I'm getting the wrong information.
I'm going to work on that.
You should go to the website.
See, I didn't even know they had a website.
There's a little button there.
It says, get started.
You did the button right there.
I think Matthew needs to get on the website.
Yeah.
About house time.
I had no idea.
We'll take a break. Be right back.

Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time.
You ladies know what I mean.
I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do.
So let's talk about it.

All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own.
I was like, what the hell is that?
I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be.
Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45.
How high can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy?
That one's kind of hard.
Well, that's lighting.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here.
Just a few minutes before lunch for the KSR Golf Scramble.
We got the guys here from Bowling Green that won the contest.
He has a legalized Mulligan's hat on.
I would be a heck of a golfer if that was the thing you were allowed to do.
But nice to see you guys.
They look like a group that might contend, though.
I'm not going to say.
They look like they got some players.
I don't know if I like that.
We got fresh off a runner-up finish in the fifth flight of the Glasgow member guest golf scramble.
The turkey hunter and Judge Gabe coming in.
They were bragging to me.
Second place in the fifth flight.
Well, I'm sorry you didn't get to golf in it.
You and Gabe have golfed in that for many, many years in a row.
They make us play in like the second or third flight.
It's not fair.
He gets to play in the fifth.
Weird, I'd win the fifth flight if I was in it, but they're like, oh, your handicaps too low.
That's not very nice.
Glasgow, that's a tough competition.
That's like the corn fairy tour in that city.
Oh, dude, they got some good players there.
Some people's telling me that the reason Big Lots is failing is they tried to become a furniture store and got away from their roots.
Did you know that?
No, I didn't know that.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Just go with what you do well.
Yeah, do what you do.
Unless you're Kodak or Blackberry, then do something else.
blockbuster, but otherwise you do what you do.
I like their furniture.
Maybe they should have stuck with it.
Pick the bang for your buck.
Who's up next, Rick?
Got Jake up next.
Jake, go ahead, Jake.
Hey, guys.
How are y'all?
Doing good.
Hey, the cats are going to go into Knoxville this fall, and they're going to win, and I'm
going to tell you why.
Last summer, we went on vacation, got to meet some people from Tennessee, got to be pretty
decent friends with them.
They've kept up with them since then.
and I got a text yesterday that my buddy scored me four tickets to Tennessee, UK in Knoxville.
It's going to be my first Cats football game, and they're going to pull out to win.
Oh, so your very first Kentucky football game is going to be in Knoxville.
That's exciting.
You know, I like to talk trash about Tennessee, and the stadium is kind of old, but I will say this.
They have a heck of an atmosphere.
I mean, the atmosphere, would you agree, Ryan?
Two years ago I went down there, and it was one of the best college football atmospheres I've ever been in.
They do have an amazing atmosphere.
It stinks because it's Tennessee, and you don't want to, like, listen to it.
But in terms of if you're going to have a first college football game, that will be a pretty exciting one to go to.
I'm excited about it.
My wife and I are going to meet up with them down there and, you know, hooking up with those people and getting tickets.
And that ended up being, like, one of the coolest vacations ever because it's led to this.
And also, side note, I also met Coach O while I was.
down there on vacation. Oh, really?
Nice. Coach O's a fun dude.
He is exactly, he is exactly like you would want him
to be. Yeah, he's great. Coach O's a great
dude. You have his shirt on?
Yeah, my man. No, he didn't.
That's what I was going to say. My man, I don't know,
I know very few people that don't have a ripped build
that want their shirt off more than Orlando Antigua.
Like, I appreciate it. I appreciate the call.
People who like aren't really strong,
but are just like, I don't care.
Shirts coming off.
Everybody's going to enjoy it.
I have respect for that.
I can't do that.
But like they would, people who are just like, whatever, we're going to let it hang out, Ron.
You're kind of like that.
You and Orlando are kind of in the same boat.
Guns out, sun's out.
It's not guns so much as it's other things.
But you're, but you're.
So now, now it's past.
We can talk about it.
Why do Orlando not go with Cal to Arkansas?
You're going to ask me that four minutes before the show?
I don't want to speak for Orlando because Orlando should speak for himself.
But I think it's fair to say there are a lot of people in Cow's life who love Cal,
who think Cow's a good guy and who want to be friends with Cal for the rest of their life
that just couldn't be around him anymore, that just were like, I can't do this anymore.
You know, it's tough because you say anything.
And people get mad, but, like, he was a different dude the last three years.
He just was.
And if you don't believe me, go look at how many people were very close to him that ended up going and doing something else.
I can't say that's why Orlando did it.
Only he would know.
But, Drew, if I were to guess, if I were to guess, you know, Kenny, Kenny came back.
But Kenny wasn't around him those three or four years, right?
Kenny was around the old cow.
So I, it's just my guy.
I don't know, but I do know that it was tough for a lot of those guys in recent years.
And right, if Matt came up to and said, hey, we're moving KSR to Fayetteville, Arkansas.
I mean, would you jump on board right away?
Or you'd be like, I might have to think about moving Arkansas real quick.
I was barely going to stay here.
You know, I was telling somebody the other day, you remember a year ago?
You remember Oscar Combs tweet a year ago?
Yes.
Oh, yeah.
So, Oscar Combs, for those of you don't remember, he sent a tweet a year ago that said,
I kind of have a feeling in a year.
I love how he tried to, like, couch it in big terms.
He was, like, either a certain U.K. basketball coach
or a certain media personality, one of them won't be here anymore.
And I remember thinking that's such an Oscar tweet, right?
Like, it's such an Oscar, like, conspiracy theory tweet.
And I was like, Oscar, will you stop it?
Come on.
I remember I called him, and I'm like, what are you doing?
And he goes, I try, you know, I wouldn't necessarily talk about you.
I was like, come on, Oscar.
But, you know, it's funny, like a lot of things with Oscar,
it ended up happening.
He might have been right.
Yeah.
Because I don't know if I would have kept doing it.
And, you know, I think, I think Orlando, I think T.J.
I think Eric Lindsay.
I think Chuck Martin.
I think there's just a lot of people that were just like, Drew, I can't do this anymore, you know?
Yeah.
Again, I don't know what's in any of their brains, but does anyone really think Cal at Arkansas is going to be a long-term thing?
So if you're looking out for your career, you're exactly right.
You ain't going to do it that long.
Even if he goes down there and kills it, he's not coaching there that long.
Like it won't be, it'll be three or four years.
And everyone we mentioned a lot younger.
It most, yeah.
You got a lot of career ahead of you.

It is cornbread hemp.
That movie, by the way, it's weird.
And, like, it's got a lot of bad language, so, like, don't watch it with the kids.
But they clone Tyrone is a very funny movie.
It apparently came out the same week as Oppenheimer and Barbie, and so no one saw it.
Horrible timing.
Yeah, not great timing, but it's worth seeing.
It's on Netflix if you get a chance.
Thank you all.
Looking forward to this scramble.
Thanks to Clark's puppet shop, A Vision, everybody.
We will see you tomorrow from KS. Bar.
