The A-Vision Glass Text Machine
is 772-745254 in this edition,
sponsored by T.J. Smith law office you call T.J. I'll make them pay. We got a guy right here
whose birthday it is. Elijah. Elijah. Elijah's birthday. Where are you guys from? Winchester.
So we got Versailles. We got Winchester. We got Paul who's, I think he's his names on that seat.
I'm going to brag on you for a minute. You were going to give away Reds tickets on the air
and you decided to give him to Elijah today because it's birthday. It was his birthday.
I was like, would you like my Reds tickets? He said yes. So now he's going to the game.
Yeah, very nice. There you go. Reds Cardinals. I think they won. Reds won last night.
against your cardinal cardinals are horrible ellie hit another home run uh ellie is is a superstar
is he going to be the first 50 50 player we had a 40 40 player it's got a way to go to get 50 home runs
but i mean he has a chance to get 80 stolen bases first guy since ricky henderson to do it wow
oh that's a big so i mean he's got if he does that that would be there's only been there's only been
15 seasons in baseball history where somebody's got a hundred stole or it's gotten 80 or more stolen bases
and it's not been forever because people don't do it like they used to.
He has a chance, Drew, to get 80 stolen bases this year.
I don't know a lot about your Reds contracts,
but I just feel like he'll be on the Yankees or Dodgers in a few years.
Is that how this works?
No, I mean, everybody says that, and I know you're just, you're screwed.
I don't know.
I always hear Reds fans go,
hey, we're going to pay him in a year or two.
That's not how it works.
You have him for seven years.
Okay, I didn't know that.
And so because you have him for seven years,
he's only the year.
last year didn't even count.
So this is his first year.
So they got him for six years.
They'll keep him at least four, if not five years,
before they would even contemplate trading him.
And, you know, well, is it likely after those seven years he resigns?
Probably not, to be honest,
because he's going to be probably the richest player in baseball.
But you get that guy for that long, Ryan, that's a long time.
So you have no incentive to trade him until at least four or five years.
He's the most exciting player.
in the game today. And if the Reds were able to keep him for a couple years, that does nothing
but just help the fandom because that guy is awesome. They'll try to do what they did with Hunter
Green, where they signed him early for less money for long. So they got Hunter Green for another
seven or eight years. The Reds can be good. I'm not saying they will, but they could. Hunter Green's
having this awesome year. He's having an amazing year. Yeah, you got Ellie. Diaz in the bullpins.
One of the best has been this year. He's a little rocky this year, but he hasn't blown any saves. He
He makes you scared when he pitches, but he hasn't.
The problem is their second best hitter has been hurt all year, never had to play, McLean.
The rest of the guys just haven't necessarily been what we'd hope.
Kind of forget about him, yeah.
But the other thing to remember is they have a plus 50 run different.
They have the fifth best run differential in the National League.
They just lose one-run games through every one-run game they lose.
How we're feeling about the playoffs?
I mean, they're not going to make it.
But at least they're still relevant, right?
Like at least the games, I'm at least watching them.
They're not, but they're not going to make it.
And Elijah can have fun.
Yes, Elijah, you will have fun.
It's a good example of why you skip work to come to KS Bar for the show.
Exactly.
You never know when I'm going to be in a good mood and give you tickets to the Reds game.
So part of the reason I'm in a good mood is KSR golf scramble yesterday was awesome.
Oh, that's one of my favorites.
I think it was, I honestly think it was one of the best ones we had.
I do too.
I think the combination of the weather was great.
Yep.
The most giveaways, I mean, there were Shady Ray's
given sunglasses, there was food, there was a lot of alcohol.
There was a hole where a place called CBD Time gave away Delta 6 gummies.
Delta 9.
That wasn't interesting because one dude ended up asleep in the clubhouse after eight holes.
Need a little nap.
Yeah.
So, I mean, you know, he got, he started on that hole.
Yes, he did.
And I heard that six holes later, they had to be like,
wouldn't you go back to the clubhouse and sleep until the end of the round?
So he kind of took a nap the rest of the time.
I got lucky.
That was my very last hole.
So I slept well last night.
Yeah.
But you got to be ready for that, I think.
Yeah, the guy pulled up at my hole number 18, never got out of the golf cart.
He was never going to get out of the golf cart.
Every team had their team picture on 18 with ride.
Their team picture is surrounding the guy sleeping in the golf cart.
Yep.
So which I like that.
Now you hit how many putts?
I hit a grand total of three putts yesterday.
Now, well done.
Yeah, I have 36.
Just missed my prediction.
Yeah.
You hit the over on mats.
How long were the putts that you made?
Because remember, it's a scramble.
So he putts just from wherever the team is putting from on the green.
How long were the ones you made?
The ones I made?
Yes.
Well, there was probably about an eight-footer.
Oh, you hit an eight-footer.
And then there was a five-footer.
Okay.
And then it was probably a four-footer.
Oh.
So you didn't hit the longest puts in the world.
No.
That doesn't even pull.
Those two of those I'd have picked up.
So you didn't hit the longest.
Most of the groups were probably 15 to 20 feet.
And that's not your range.
I just lipped out so many of them.
But we did have one guy, Todd Smith hit like a 40 footer.
Like he was way, way back on the green and he rolled it in.
Well, I will say, Team KSR.
You guys were good.
16 under par yesterday.
Best round we've ever played.
Fourth.
We came in fourth.
20 under par one.
20 under. Kentucky Brandon went 20 under. That was, I want to say they were cheating because I like to say every team was cheating. But that was out there. You could get it. I mean, we, we pared, I guess what, four of four holes. And two of those, we had 10 footers and just didn't make them. So we eagled two holes. 20 was out there if you were really good. Yeah, that group was good. They came into our hole and they birded our hole pretty easy.
Yeah. So it was out there. We probably the best I've putted in years.
I mean, I was, I was draining left and right.
They said that.
You said you rolled in several putts.
I tell you, the shot of the day, though, at my hole was not Drew Franklin.
It was Drew Franklin's sister.
Yeah, Drew Franklin's sister, not like, we were in the weeds, like 160 out.
She put it, what, five to ten feet?
Yes.
And my uncle right after hit the pin from back there, and we run up and thought Ryan was going to tap it in,
just slipped out.
So my sister made the put.
No, it was.
My favorite moment of that hole, though, was we started pretty early.
Ryan wasn't that far into our round, and I'm going down the fairway,
and he's already on the green swinging his shirt.
It's off and he's swinging above his head.
And this, I mean, we hadn't even made the turn yet.
You're still not early in the day.
Yeah, you stuck it out through all of them.
So that was good.
It was a lot of fun.
Now, the Louisville one is next Friday.
Correct.
And there are two open spots.
We had a couple teams had to drop out.
So if you want to go and do the one next Friday,
there's a couple open spots you can join.
It's at Glen Oaks Country Club.
But thanks to Boone's Trace for hosting us yesterday.
And listen, it was a great meeting.
You know, having been gone, it was very nice to, like, see everybody,
talk to everybody.
And it was just a great time.
That was one of my favorite ones we've had.
Part of it wasn't so hot.
Usually it's really hot.
And this time it wasn't so hot.
I agree with you.
I think yesterday was the best we've ever had a lot of very familiar faces that play a lot,
but a lot of new groups playing for the first time.
I thought that was kind of an interesting mix we had yesterday.
Now, one of the things that's interesting to me,
you know, usually I sort of decipher the fan base's mindset based on on game days on Saturdays,
what is it that everyone's talking to me about, right?
Like when I'm at this bar, people, they all talk to you.
And so I think, like, what are they talking?
That's kind of how I kind of see where the fan base is, right?
So yesterday, you know, I probably spoke to every group at some point.
And it was interesting because we have football.
season coming.
Yeah.
We have basketball season coming.
Yeah.
Can I tell you in order the three questions that I got to ask the most?
Okay.
Question number three.
How's Brock Grand Van derrick?
Okay.
That was the third most asked question.
How's Brock Vandergriff?
I think there's a constant, you know, there may be no, there's probably been no
quarterback.
Well, Levis maybe, but nobody knows because he didn't even play at Georgia, right?
So like with Devin Leary, people saw their in his NC State film or whatever.
Like, people have no idea.
So that was question three.
Question two was, are we going to be any good at basketball?
Like, there was definitely a lot of, please tell me, Matt, we're going to be good at basketball.
And again, Drew, I think a big part of it is we never seen any of these guys play.
Like, we have a team full of none of them.
I mean, most people, unless you went to the Sweet 16, have never seen one of these guys,
if they're being honest in real game action. And so that's the makes it nerve wracking.
Yeah, I mean, you've got Lamont Butler who had a tournament run and then Jackson Robinson was in
the Big 12. Other than that, I'll be honest, I didn't watch a lot of Dayton. I didn't watch much
FIU. I didn't watch much Oklahoma. But even if you watch Lamont Butler at San Diego State,
you weren't focusing in on him thinking he might be a UK player, right? He was just one of a group
of nameless guys that you probably were like, well, they're tough. You know, so I think,
I think that's probably why that one is number two.
two guys I've seen play are Travis Perry and Trent Noah.
Those only two out of the whole rosters I've seen play.
And then number one, by far, by far.
So tell me what really went down with Calpere.
No, I mean, that's by far, like what went down with Calgary League?
People, it was like probably 20 people asked me.
Yeah.
I think it is still fascinating to people.
For all the let's move on, and part of me agrees,
with that. It is still fascinating to people, how did that go down in those days? Because if there
was a UK 30 for 30, the process between lose to Oakland on Friday, reports that weekend that he
might be gone, meeting with Cal on Monday, TV interview on Tuesday, where they awkwardly say they're
saving their relationship.
fine. Everything's fine. Both of them looking like they would rather be anywhere on earth but in
that room. Reports on Saturday, what's going on? He's going to Arkansas Sunday. Monday, he's
walking up and down the street with his dog with reports he's trying to get his job back and then
official on Tuesday that nine or 10 day period. I mean, I'm sure I don't even know all that happened.
Just what I know would be a heck of a documentary.
Yeah.
And I think there's a lot of people that, like, are just fascinated by it.
Can we ask your thoughts on some things then?
What do you mean my thoughts?
Well, I've said some of my thoughts.
Yeah.
So.
Turn the TikTok camera off there.
This is ready only.
This is not, let me tell you something, Mario.
This is not going on TikTok, all right?
So, or whatever.
This is that sound like Bill Simmons.
Turn the TikTok camera off.
All right, go ahead.
think Cal had a change your heart and wanted to stay.
Yes.
I had to kind of do too.
Yeah.
I mean, there's no doubt about that in my mind.
Yeah, he did.
He wanted, I don't know how long it was, but there's no doubt that Monday.
He met with representatives from UK at his house when he was walking up and down the street in front of the TV cameras.
That was not, that was intentional.
Yeah, that wasn't accidental.
I mean, that was not accidental.
He knew those cameras were out there.
he was hoping that there would be a groundswell of Kentucky fans wanting him to come back
that would publicly make it to where Mitch felt like he had to keep.
Yes.
I do believe that.
Now, I think when that didn't happen, I think UK made it very clear.
This relationship is now over.
Then he went to Arkansas.
But he wanted to stay.
UK said not happened.
And then that was that.
With that point, he had already gone into that hotel room and talked to Arkansas,
which made them able to save a lot of money.
I mean, rip up that contract.
Remember, he canceled the team meeting.
Remember, there was a team meeting for him to say to his team,
I'm going to Arkansas.
And he canceled.
That's right.
And he canceled it because he was trying to meet with UK.
And I think he wanted to meet with Barnhart.
I don't think Barnhart met with him.
I think he sent, that's probably when he knew it wasn't going to happen,
when he sent somebody else to meet with him.
And, you know, he had, I think, yes, I don't think that's what happened.
But then it didn't, you know, and Drew's exactly right.
The contract was violated that when he talked to Arkansas without telling UK,
that Cal had a contract where he could do almost anything,
he would still get paid.
He did not have a buyout.
He did not have, he had nothing.
The only thing he couldn't do was go talk to another team without telling him.
And then that's what he did.
And so that was that.
That kind of fell in Mitch's lap, solved that problem real easily.
No, I mean, look, we don't know if Mark Pope's going to succeed.
We don't know if he'll even do better than Cal would have.
But we do know that UK, well, I, I don't know.
I know the UK felt like they would hit the jackpot when that happened because it got them out of a, what, $63 million deal?
I'll ask you another one.
Do you think Cal didn't really know how much the fan base had turned on him?
Like, did he, because he's so much in his own bubble, he didn't know all the discontent that was going on out there in the fan base.
We'll get to that.
859-280-22.
We just got to take a break.
Aviation and Outerglass text machine is.
772-7-4-7-4.
We'll also talk about those other two questions
because I did think it was interesting.
The Van de Griff's stuff especially
is just, it's interesting
because people are kind of all over the place on it.
We'll talk about it right for this.
KS.R. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio,
here at KS. Bar and Grill.
Let me give you some breaking news.
You got the button there, Rick?
I know I've been gone a while. You got the breaking news button?
Got it right here. Go for it.
Here we go.
Yeah.
Rick's always on it on it.
It's not necessarily good breaking news.
It's actually bad breaking news.
KSR is reporting.
It's actually me.
I have found out, again, the text machine.
Text machine is the best newsbreaker.
Seriously, every big piece of news pretty much comes from the text machine.
Heard this last night, confirmed it this morning.
Running back Chip Treyanum from Ohio State has broken his hand.
And he will miss three to four weeks, certainly miss the first.
first game, second game against South Carolina is a will see.
That hurts, man.
He's running back number one.
He's the guy that's going to carry most of the load.
And that's a thin room to begin with.
So that hurts from your number one guy goes down before the season starts.
That's a bad loss.
That's a tough loss.
Now, if he plays against South Carolina, it might be okay because presumably he'll stay in shape
and he won't take hits in the first week.
So if he plays against South Carolina, Drew, I don't think it's the worst thing.
But if he doesn't, that's going to be a big deal for what I think is the most important game
of the year.
Yeah, maybe out of all of them, that's a position that was already lacking depth to begin with
and to lose your number one guy there going to the season.
That certainly stinks.
And, man, I hope he plays in that South Carolina game because that, as we've said many times,
that game can dictate the excitement moving forward and what the rest of the season can look like.
And if you're missing RB1 in that game, that'll be a big hit to the roster.
And, you know, really you're looking at one running back with DSK.
DSK.
Demi Summo Karnbe.
And then freshman.
So you're going to see freshmen on the field.
I mean, there's going to be freshmen out there running the ball
if he doesn't play in that first game.
It's weird.
It felt like we had seven running backs last year.
We did.
And somehow we ended up with two in freshmen this year.
Yeah, Cavassier Smoke and LaVille Wright, or they both left a couple years ago.
Remote Jefferson got a touchdown against Paul Bengals in the preseason this past weekend.
That was good for him.
But, yeah, certainly don't have the depth they did a year ago.
And Jason Patterson is one of the true freshmen that they've been speaking highly of out of out of camp.
going to be called on a little earlier than he probably expected.
Yeah, so that's unfortunate. That's a tough loss for Kentucky early in the year.
They don't expect it to be longer than the second game, but the key question is,
does he miss one game or does he miss two games? And I guess it just depends on how quickly it heals.
We got folks on the phone. I'll get to it. Tell me again what you asked in the first
statement about whether or not, oh, him realizing, yeah.
Did he realize there was that much of a discontent among the fan base?
Or was he too much? I mean, I didn't. I wasn't talking to him regularly, but I think the answer
that question is almost certainly no because he was I'm told by somebody close to him that the
first wow moment was the SEC tournament that when he walked off the floor in the SEC tournament
again you never know who these people are but there were like people yelling at him hanging over
the rails I was there and I think he was like what yeah because he had convinced himself
I mean I know this sounds ridiculous it's just true he had convinced himself he had convinced himself
that the quote-unquote noise.
You know how he'd always talk about noise?
Noise and cluel.
He had convinced himself
that the only people that didn't,
that were frustrated were people
that like Matt Jones and Drew Franklin
had had like convinced.
How many times did he say these people with an agenda
that are real fans?
He genuinely, this is not like delusion.
He genuinely believed that the fans loved him
and then Matt and Drew were convincing
segments to not. And by the way, there's people online who would say that too, if you remember.
But he didn't realize, like, I used to say to somebody that is close to him that I'm friends with.
I'm like, I'm the moderate force. There's a lot of people angrier than me. Like, I'm the one who
always starts every show going, he's a good dude. You know, he's been a great coach. There were a
lot of people, but like they didn't know that. And then the Oakland game, you know, we were in the
arena. If you were in that arena, I mean, it became obvious at that point. I mean, that arena was
a cauldron of discontent, Drew, after they lost that game. In Nashville, the tunnel he had to walk
through to get to the locker room. UK fans are hanging over the rail yelling at him. And that's
the first time. I mean, we had that one sign go to Texas, that one time. That was a one-off
situation. That's the first time I'd seen it kind of in person in his face where he was feeling it.
They turned around and lost Oakland after that. Yeah, I think he believed that when
it was kind of being slowly put out there that maybe he was reconsidering and blah, blah,
I think he thought there would be this rise up of people going, let's run it back.
And it didn't happen.
You know, it didn't happen.
And then that was that.
The incident Drew's talking about, I'll never forget that lady who was leaning over the railing saying,
scream down him, is this the gold standard cow?
Hey, cow, is this the gold standard?
I can still see that lady's.
face.
Yes.
Like, she didn't look like the kind of lady that would be yelling that.
Exactly.
You know what I mean?
And so it was, it was kind of odd.
Who's up first, Rick?
Got Doug up first.
Doug, go ahead, Doug.
Okay, man, I got a little bit of a complaint.
Okay.
I've been a UK fan for over 60 years.
And I've always hated the voles and the gators.
Okay.
And I listened to yesterday's show and you're talking about the ball fans, how they acted,
how they wore the color.
and all they talked about when they went to parties with the basketball and football and all that stuff.
I realized, well, that's all the things that I do.
And all this time, I realized I've been a bowl fan.
You know, I mean.
Now, here's the thing.
You know, first of all, we is, you know, the same things we complain about with some of these people.
You're exactly right.
We do it too.
Sure.
You know, we do it too.
That's the thing.
The people that yell at me, the most online about being biased about politics,
are themselves the most biased about politics.
Usually you see in others the weaknesses you have in yourself.
So when I say that Tennessee fans are the most obsessed and the most blah, blah, blah,
you're exactly right.
Part of it is because I am too and we are as well.
Well, I just eases my mind because I would hate to think that I was a closet bowl fan.
Yeah, you're not a Tennessee fan.
No, I appreciate it.
The difference, though, here's where I think we're different.
Tennessee fans are nastier.
Like, they're meaner.
I genuinely believe that.
Do you?
Oh, without a doubt.
Tennessee fans, in my opinion, are the meanest football fans.
Now, I think Yukon fans are the meanest basketball fans.
Oh, yeah, I can confirm.
But when it comes to football, I think Tennessee at least has the meanest online fans.
I've never really felt like they were that mean in person.
But as an online fan base, they are a pretty, pretty nasty group.
We'll take a break.
859-28027 here at KS. Bar is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio.
859-9-280-22.7.
One person writes, Matt, I was, I live on the golf course at Boone's Trace.
I watched you tee off on a hole.
You hit it probably 80 yards to the right.
I think that's probably right.
You towards Roth.
I was all over the place.
It took me.
I was all over the place.
But you know what?
It's all right.
I mean, a scramble, you take some chances because it doesn't really matter.
Like, you know, if I was playing a regular round, I don't think it would have been in your yard.
I did hit a ball in a guy's yard, and he had a, and I couldn't find it.
and he had a putting green in his yard.
And there was a ball on the putting green.
And I never remember what ball I'm playing.
But it was right where my ball should have been.
Probably was it.
And I was like, I think I'll just get this.
And then I go, but what if it's not my ball?
And he thinks I just walked into his yard and take balls off his putting green.
So I left it.
I just chalked it up to maybe I should let that go.
It'd be a little weird if you just, that's his practice ball.
Then he goes out every morning with his coffee plays around.
You just go help yourself.
And he's usually like, no one's going to come over here and take this.
Are they?
And then I did.
Someone just tweeted us a picture of a bunch of balls from their yard on 18.
Said if you all recognize them, you can come get them.
The guy was watching his play yesterday.
On 18, there's some people like, I bet they get tons of balls in their yard.
It's right up there next to the fairway.
They got to get a ton.
Yeah, that their backyard comes with a lot where a lot of people are trying to land their drive.
And so you have no doubt it probably a lot of them in the yard.
One person writes, I want to hear Ryan's explanation for what Douglas got four transfers the week before the season.
You always say Lexington Christian cheats.
How about saying Douglas cheats?
I only know of two transfers.
I don't know of four.
They've been trying to get them in school all last month.
But we say they've been trying to get them into school.
Do they live here?
Yeah, they both families have moved here.
They had to get, you know.
For what were you?
Like, coincidence?
Well, prospective med students.
Yeah.
I mean, one of them, I think, was a top 150 player in Kentucky from,
or top 150 player in the country from Florida who's going to Kentucky.
Was it just a coincidence that they made?
moved here into Douglas's district?
Yeah, I think they wanted to be close here to Lexington.
So when their son goes to school in Kentucky, they're already here established.
But just happened to be in Douglas's district.
Well, that's where there's a lot of districts around the city.
Presumably you could end up at any of them.
But we got a really good district over there.
Yeah, and that's where the most available housing is right now.
Most available housing there.
Okay.
Yeah.
So that's where, you know, Drew lives out there.
They want to live by Drew.
I'll say this as a Kentucky football fan.
If any five-star wants to live in my house, I'll do what it takes to help the team.
So you're saying like it's just all, it's totally on the up and up.
It's just coincidence.
They just happen to be really good football players.
Oh, just.
Okay.
So like if they had been like interesting in just like history, it'd been good.
Oh, sure.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know.
Yeah.
See, that's really coming out that way, Matt.
We're good at Chipotle.
Got big things coming.
It's really nice of Douglas that like, you know.
They open their doors to anybody wants to come.
Whoever is interested is able to go, right?
Yeah.
Okay.
And if you're six, five, 250 pounds, four.
Four star.
Defensive end?
Defensive end?
Yeah.
No, I mean, he's a Kentucky commit.
What's his name?
I can't remember.
Okay, well, it sounds like you're really excited to get him in school.
He's focused on Josiah Limit.
Yeah, I mean, it sounds like you were eager to have him enroll.
I'm glad to, I'm glad to hear that.
A 59-280-2-87, who's up next?
David is up next.
David, go ahead, David.
Hey, Matt.
How you all doing?
Doing good.
Excellent. So you said this is unpopular opinion day.
Now that's tomorrow, but I'll let you give a preview today if you want. It's okay.
Oh, boy. All right. So let me just preface by saying I have nothing against this man.
He's kind of like a great man in real life. A lot of people were dutched by him with his kindness.
And a big impact on just a lot of people at UK.
With that being said, I do not agree with UK's decision to bring.
retire a jersey of Bill O'Kightly in the Rathters.
I think at the end of the day...
That's a very unpopular opinion.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Wow, I mean, you like, it's not even unpopular opinion day yet,
and you just come out firing on the first one.
Okay, go ahead.
So my opinion is that anybody who has a jersey reserved in the Ractor
should be somebody that coached and played at Kentucky,
and, you know, Bill Kightly has done either.
So that's the way I see it.
I think there's other ways to honor him,
but I just don't think, given the man,
the journey thereafter, makes any sense to me.
Okay, all right.
Well, first of all, again, in the spirit of unpopular opinion day,
and I appreciate the call, we would let you say it,
and we do not, we won't like, you know, we don't judge it or anything.
I disagree with you because, to me, Bill Kightly,
is more, it's less about the human being Bill Kightly,
although from all indications he was a wonderful man.
Then it is, to me, Bill Keightly is the symbol, in some ways,
of the greater Big Blue Nation thing, right?
It's the same reason that one of these days I will advocate to have Oscar Combs
recognized somehow at Rupp Arena.
It's not so much Oscar, although I love Oscar.
It's that he kind of represents this unique fan base to me
in a way that Bill Kightly does as well.
So to me, I like that being in the Raptors,
because if you're trying to tell people what makes Kentucky basketball special, Ryan,
yes, it's the wins, yes, it's the tournaments, yes, it's that.
But it's also this thing that I think he kind of represents.
I mean, they called him Mr. Wildcat for a reason.
He epitomizes everything what being a UK fan is all about,
dedicated his life to working at that university
that program.
There's nobody that loved UK more than him.
So I have absolutely no problem with him being in the rafters at Rupp Arena.
Yeah, I was about to say boo this man,
but I don't want to ruin the exercise of letting people have their opinions.
But, I mean, what was in that position?
Almost four decades?
Yeah, I think so.
I mean, if you asked every single player that came through there,
I'm sure they just have wonderful things to say about him.
I just think that has to be taken into serious consideration,
and that's why he's up there.
Yeah. So, you know, again, in the spirit of unpopular, if you're going to let people give unpopular opinions,
you have to let them give an unpopular opinion. That was a great start.
That was an unbelievable start because it's, it's, you know, let me say about the same as that opinion is the Will Levis commercial this morning.
Oh, boy. It's my quarterback. Be careful.
I mean, have you guys seen the Will Levis commercial this morning?
first of all I like the idea that he does a commercial for mayonnaise you know why not I like that like
he was mr. mayonnaise and coffee yeah he created a unique thing so I'm I'm for the come let I'm for
the endorsement absolutely I'm on board with you I get the idea of rather than just doing a mayonnaise
commercial will act like it's mayonnaise cologne right okay you know a little bit of a stretch but
all right I found that commercial kind of cringe Drew I'm not going to you know
It was just
I don't know
You're you're Kentucky and Titans
You're a double levis guy
So I'm my franchise quarterback
We're just getting started with him
I'll admit it was a little
Over the top I'd say
That is certainly how you commit to a bit
With the coffee mayonnaise thing
Actually as you talk about
Text Machine getting scoop
I heard about this a few weeks ago
That someone said he's kind of the chemist
Working on it
It really is coffee and mayo based
cologne. Oh, I thought it was a joke. No, it's for sale. You can buy it. It's called Will Levis
number eight. Oh, see, I thought it was just a joke. It's an actual colon. You can buy the
cologne and it has actual work went into it. It has notes of mayo and notes of coffee. It's
cologne that smells like mayonnaise? Yes. I've never wanted to smell like mayonnaise. That's
well, let us number eight, perfume de mayonnaise. I'm sure that he makes it sound like
I thought it was a joke.
I thought it was $8.3.3 shipping.
Limit one per customer.
Will Levisnobrate.com.
I'm not getting paid for that, but it is a thing.
I thought it was a big spoof.
I did too.
Well, I don't know if that makes it better or worse.
Well, we said forever he's got to capitalize on this.
I mean, he went all in.
But I didn't think, I did not think mayonnaise is the way you do it.
There's a KSR connection to the chemist.
We support the work.
went into making this.
Okay.
Well, all right, so there you go.
Wow.
The commercial is over the top, though.
Yeah, for those haven't seen it, it's on KSR right now.
I actually got out of bed to get up and write it for coming to the show.
I was so excited.
But, I mean, his hair is blowing.
At one point, he's laying on his stomach with his, like, is holding a bottle of mayo,
and he dips his finger in it.
You think it smells good?
Like, I'll find out when it gets here.
I've never thought mayonnaise is something that smells good.
Well, it also has a little parsley, a little lemon.
What else was in it?
You know, I think it's, it might be a serious.
A little vanilla?
Okay.
See, I thought 100% it was a spoof.
It was a joke.
Who wants to smell like coffee and mayonnaise?
Well, me now, apparently, because I'm going to put it on.
I'm going to put it on and test it and see how good it smells.
All right.
$8.
Where can you get a cologne for $8?
I mean, maybe you can.
I don't know.
But you want to spend $8 on the collo.
You know.
There's a reason it's only $8.
We talked about that.
They're like, I don't want a discount on surgery.
My only thing is we just started preseason.
This feels like a July-June project.
I kind of need laser focus going into the season coming up.
Hey, we were at A-Vision Glass Friday in Hopkinsville to celebrate its grand opening.

This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, here at the KS Bar and Grill.
Come on out, have lunch, see us.
We're around all day.
Well, no, we're around until the show's over.
But you can come out, have lunch, dinner.
We can't do Matt past dinner because we'll be close.
But like, it's still...
You have a singo tonight.
Singo is tonight.
Yes, singo.
And that's where they play the song.
Do you have to know?
know the song to fill out the thing?
They tell you the song at the end of it.
So even if you don't recognize it, you can still play along on your car because they'll tell you what it is.
Like, hey, that was The Gambler by Kenny Rogers.
Okay, gotcha.
So that's Singo tonight.
It's a good thing to do with your family, your friends, people you just meet on the street.
You can bring them here.
And Singo is tonight.
So hopefully you can join us.
One person writes, Matt, Will Levis's clone is already sold out.
Tined up.
That's amazing.
It was only $8.
So that helps.
Free shipping on $8.
That's pretty good.
You can't get anything for $8.
You can't even get lunch for $8.
And I can get mayonnaise cologne for $8.
All right, I'll take it.
What are you going to do with it?
Wear it.
Give it as a joke to somebody, maybe.
That's what you're going to do.
We're serious operation.
One person writes, Matt, on SEC this morning today,
they had a question, which SEC football coach would be most like.
to carry the most cash in their pocket.
So here's the question, which can Kentucky basketball or football head coach in its history would be most likely to carry the most cash in their pocket?
Easy. Easy. Billy Gillespie is walking around with hundreds of dollars with a cash clip.
Billy Gillespie is the easiest answer of all time to this.
Mark Stoops is in the conversation now because
SEC this morning had Mark Stoops' number one on the football coaches.
That's what I'm going to say.
But Billy Gillespie, Drew, is definitely.
Billy easily.
I'd say Cal never had cash because everything was free 99.
Remember that was a line?
Yes.
You're getting everything for free.
I agree with that.
Maybe for bail money, maybe just for tipping, tipping bartenders.
He certainly had cash.
on him. No doubt Billy had cash. I also bet Billy, it was a different time, but I bet Billy has
like half of his money and like Doge coin. Like I feel like, I feel like, I just feel like that's
Billy Gillespie to me. He 100% would have all kinds of ones and fives just for tips on the bar at
his bar tab and getting bank cover charges and stuff. Who did you get the least cash?
I'm going Cal.
The cow has the least cash? Yeah, someone else will get it.
Yeah, Rich Brooks probably carried cash.
but he had like $14 and quarters in his pocket.
His grandpa, yeah.
He kept a quarter in his pocket that he would find behind your ear when he'd meet you.
So rank the top five coaches carrying cash.
I'm going Billy one.
I'm going to go Stoops 2.
I bet Rick kept a little money on him.
Yeah.
I think Eddie had money.
Eddie probably had money and Joker had money.
So how are you going to go?
I'm going to go, I'm going to go Billy Stoops, Joker, Eddie, Rick.
That's a good list.
That's a real good list.
I think I would have Eddie up there at number three also behind those two guys.
That's actually a very good question.
Peter Burns came up with.
Who's the most likely to carry cash?
There's just something about that that makes me laugh.
And I think that's a good question.
Who's next?
Poe is up next.
Poe.
How are you, Poe?
A couple open lines.
859, 2,80, 20287.
Go ahead.
doing fine guys
Matt's glad to have you back
thank you
everybody else did a good job
while you just gone
thank you
I was just thinking about
I'm excited about Kentucky football this year
as long as we can go to know
and get to Georgia
get past South Carolina
I think the middle of the season is going to matter
big time Florida Auburn Tennessee games
it always does
I mean that's always kind of the time that decides
I just want, and I'll let you make your second point, win the first game, beat South Carolina.
Then you can lose to Georgia.
Like you got a free game against Georgia, in my opinion.
Right.
Then you play Ohio, and then you get a buy week, right?
So, like, if you can beat South Carolina, you're looking at being three and one, five weeks into the year, then going to Old Miss for your next game, get a week off before the Old Miss game, right?
Like, it's just, I think it sets up really well, sir, but you're exactly right, Po, you got to beat, you got to beat South Carolina.
Early game there at Ole Miss, too.
Early game, right.
Yeah.
But talking about Cal, I think that Cal was just, we should have got rid of him.
The fan base, I think, was ready to get rid of him the year before.
And we had such a great recruiting class that was, so give this, these great.
curriculum classes one more chance.
And, you know, Kentucky basketball I always grew up with, it wasn't just built for
Mark.
You'd want to win every game during the regular season to get up for, you know.
I agree.
That's all I got to say.
Appreciate the call.
Listen, the thing I'm going to love the most about Mark Pope, he's going to want to win every
game.
Like, there's not going to be any weight until March.
He's going to win, want to win.
When we play Duke in the second or third game the year, Mark's going to be living and
dime with every play, which is exactly what we do, right?
He's going to want to win every game I like that.
I had Cal been back this year, it would have been a dead man walking kind of year.
Because think about this, it would not have mattered what we did in the regular season.
It wouldn't have mattered.
Nobody would have cared because they'd be like, well, we'll see it in March.
It would have been impossible to enjoy the regular season because they could go 28 and 3
and people would go, well, Oakland has to see what happens in March.
It's like, so this way, if you're just talking to Drew about enjoying the regular season,
I think people will get to enjoy it because we don't know what's going to happen, right?
We don't know what's going to happen in the tournament.
As long as we're good, I think people will enjoy this year in a way that they wouldn't have enjoyed
Cal's year, even if we were great because people would have been worried about March.
Yeah, and some people were just, we're not getting back on board with them.
I know Arkansas put out a practice video recently.
He's yelling, go and fight.
And I thought if that had been at UK again this summer,
the replies on that video would have been awful
because the majority of the fan base was just ready for something new,
whether it be Pope or anything,
it was just time for a reset.
It had gotten a little stale.
It would have been no win, Ryan, for him, too,
because whatever he said,
there would have been people who just were like,
brr, you know, so like I think it was the only way
for everyone going forward.
You're right.
That's what I was getting ready to say.
It wouldn't have been a no-win situation for him because he could have a great regular season.
It would not have mattered.
You've got to do something in March, not be a first-round exit in the SEC tournament and a first-round exit in the NCAA tournament.
That's all that was going to matter to this fan base.
Whereas now, let's say we play Duke in the Champions Classic.
And let's say we win.
This fan base is going to be really excited about that win.
If with this Pope team, we go beat the Cooper Flagg Duke team, this fan base is going to be really.
really, really excited.
And that is going to be fun to be a part of, I think.
Oh, this fan base will be on fire if they win that game.
November 12th, third game of the year.
You win that, and we'll see what happens beyond there.
But there's not a better start you can get than beating Duke in your third game.
And there's going to be some electric atmospheres in this arena next year.
I mean, Louisville with their new coach is going to be electric.
I think what?
Alabama doesn't come here.
But Tennessee comes here.
That's going to be electric.
And then the Arkansas game.
Be an all-timer.
The Arkansas game is going to be pregame one of the three or four best atmospheres
in the history of Kentucky basketball.
Now, what happens in the game?
Who knows?
But pre-game, the electricity that is going to be in that arena and outside and in this
city, we just don't get those.
And it will be there, and that's going to be very exciting.
We will take a break.
Come back.
