Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:01:44 Your 20s can be so exciting, but they can also be really overwhelming, confusing, and honestly, just kind of lonely. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the psychology of your 20s is breaking down the science behind the biggest roadblocks we face. I was six years into my career, the 80-hour weeks, and just the first one in, the last one out, and I ended up burning out. There was a large chunk of my 20s that I, like, was just so wanting to, like, be out of that phase out of my skin. And I just, like, really regret not living in the present more. You don't need to have everything figured out right now. You just need to understand yourself a little bit better. Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:26 I'm Joey Dardano. And on my new podcast, hope from a hypocrite. I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. Starting point is 00:03:58 859, 2807. Text machine is 772-744-5254. One person writes, Matt, I'm in Middlesboro for work today. I keep looking around and seeing, it's hard for me to see you growing up here. What do you mean? A good little town. I love it. Built in a crater.
Starting point is 00:04:20 I mean, I was like, I was, you know, I mean, I'm a good example about how, like, everybody has a stereotype. Oh, you're from Eastern Kentucky. have to look like cash daniel by the way i saw cash daniel friday night ain't nobody looks like yeah that dude is huge yes i mean like you think cash daniel was big when he played here cash daniel looks like a like a like a like wrestling i mean he is like huge he's trying to be brock lesner it looks like dude he i mean from the waist up he looks like a sculpture yeah i couldn't I didn't believe it. Like, I was like, oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 00:05:00 But anyway, you know, like, there's people from the mountains that look like everybody, Ryan, right? You don't just have to have a dip or, like, hunt or a screwdriver. Yeah. You don't have to be able to hang a picture. You don't have to have a screwdriver to be in from the mountains. You can just be, you know, whatever. I think for most people that know, Kentucky, they would never have predicted you came
Starting point is 00:05:24 from eastern Kentucky. What does that mean? Because you don't fit any of those, the stairs. I talk about it all the time. I know. I think most, I think, what town am I from? Middleborough, like, I think most people know where I'm from. I'm like, I talk about it all the time.
Starting point is 00:05:38 Yeah. I don't think most people would not have predicted that. You're a city boy. City boy. What does that mean? Like, like breakdancing over here. Text machine is 7-7-2-7-4-5-254. One person writes, Matt, you lasted a week.
Starting point is 00:05:58 without responding to someone on Twitter, I'm proud of you. I didn't respond. I quote tweeted. Now, I responded later. But I just, you know, they had the Trump Elon thing. I didn't listen to it, but there was a picture. And one of the things I've been consistent on bipartisan is if you hang a painting up of yourself in your house, it's a little odd. Especially a painting where like you're wearing a tight t-shirt and sailors' pants.
Starting point is 00:06:26 and there was a picture of Trump and it's ridiculous. Like, come on. Like, listen, I love you folks. You're Trump supporters. I love you all. Like, I am the, when it comes to liberals being supportive of Trump supporters,
Starting point is 00:06:41 I'm as supportive of as anyone. I love you all, all, all, all. I know most of my people don't, but that's because they're being closed mind. But at some point, you have to also go, you know what, he can be ridiculous sometimes. And that picture is ridiculous. And all of us may,
Starting point is 00:06:56 fun of it when Jim Nance did it. So when he does it, you can't be like, like, come on. Like, I'll make fun. Like, Joe Biden kind of stumbling around is weird, right? I mean, it is. You know, Kamala does dances, and I'm like, just don't dance. You know, like, that's not your thing.
Starting point is 00:07:17 But that picture was weird. So then people just go, it's not weird. It's great. It's not weird. It's great. And you just go, please come down. It doesn't matter who the candidate was or who the person was. If they had a picture like that of themselves, if it was you,
Starting point is 00:07:31 if it was your picture of yourself. If I ever have an oil painting of myself up into house, please mock me. Please. Okay. Just please. Yes. Yeah, I'm universal on making fun of anyone that has an oil painting of themselves. I mean, if the whole family's in it and it was a gift, maybe you found a place for it.
Starting point is 00:07:50 But if it's just you posing by a bush. Like there are a couple scenarios I could see having an oil painting of yourself. of yourself like if it's your official presidential portrait right like the one they do that hangs okay all right even then even in your living room's a little weird it can never be in your living living room no I have an oil painting of Jay Z if it's your oil painting let me say if it's oil painting of you and your wife or your family it's a little different it's a little different that's not as narcissist you got everybody in it with you something not like I had a girl just like a girl one time came up to me at a show and she did what the guy did in
Starting point is 00:08:32 Hopkinsville she had drawn a picture of me and it it was a picture of me I don't know why she put me with this person but it was a picture of me and Andrew Harrison okay you got to hang that up I don't I don't know why she put the two of us together but it was really good and it was unique like why is she putting me with Andrew Harrison and so I kind of thought that was But it was like a sketch, you know. And so in my old radio office, I had it for a little while because it was kind of unique. Yeah. But I think when it's just you, like staring off into the sunset.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Like looking like, I am majestic. You know, it's just a lot. And the light kind of shining on it over the big conference table. At some point, you have to be able to laugh. And if you can't laugh at things, then I think you're just taking it a little. too seriously. That's all I'm saying. Now, along those lines, when person goes, do you still think you're going to win your dinner bet with the caller?
Starting point is 00:09:36 I do now. I didn't. But I do think I'm going to win now. But I didn't. I'd already plan to give that guy's dinner. So what does he? He takes you to dinner now? What was the stipulations again? The stipulation was if Trump won, I would buy him dinner. If he won, he could just give me dinner. I thought there was a scenario where you go into his family home and sit down.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Yeah, I think he was going to cook. I think if, well, if the Democrat won, he was going to cook for me. And I'll still do that, assuming he can cook. I mean, I don't know if it's like me cooking. I don't necessarily want to do it. Assuming he can cook, I would still do that. So let's talk first thing about Brock Vandergris. So I don't know about you, Drew.
Starting point is 00:10:23 I continue to hear wildly different reports about Van derriff. And I think it's in part because I spoke with someone this morning who said to me, literally Matt, like one day he can look like an NFL quarterback and one day he looks like a three star. And you don't know which one it's going to be. So I'm sort of preparing myself for we're going to see inconsistent play. We're going to see games where he's like dominating. And then we're going to see games where maybe it's a little bit more of a show. struggle. Are you hearing similar things? Yeah, I like that he can use his legs, and that'll be a big part of Bush Hamden's offense. I'll be honest, some of these highlights they're throwing, they kind of
Starting point is 00:11:08 look like wobble balls. I'm no expert on passing. It's not the zip Will Levis had, but I mean, he's still connecting, so that's all that matters at the end of the day. But overall, it's just, as you said, start the show, he just hasn't done it before. So, like, really, people can think what he's going to look like and guess, but until you put him out there and those lights are on, he's looking across at an SEC defense. No one really knows what's going to happen. What about you? Yeah, he's unproven, untested. We're really ahead and have no idea how we were performing game action. But if I remember right, we were kind of saying the same things about Will Levis during fall. We were. Oh, they were honestly, a lot of the reports about Will Levis were exactly the same. Inconsistent, but can run.
Starting point is 00:11:50 And honestly, when he played, I think he was more consistent than inconsistent, but he had moments of like what are you doing like i mean that was kind of part of him too he did the difference with him and levice is there's so much better depth behind him now hopefully you don't have to go to it but gavin wimpsett is a very strong number two i mean that got started two seasons at rutgers and then again you don't want to get this far down this year but even cutter boley is turning heads earlier whereas in the past it was like one quarterback and if that wasn't working out or they went down we saw what happened there just wasn't much depth at the position i i feel good about the fact i mean everyone i've spoken
Starting point is 00:12:25 to and I and I've spoken to a lot of people since I've been back everyone I've spoken to says look Matt best defense we've had in terms of across the board they've had you know Josh Allen and they've but best defense we've had kind of across the board and best receiver group we've had and I think they probably throw in the tight ends with yeah they're too um you just got to say can you get a it's not going to be an offensive line that's one of our best. best groups. So can it be serviceable? And then it's Brock Vandegris. So when people like yesterday were like, you think we go nine and three or six and six. Depends on how Brock Vandigriff plays. I mean, like he's, he's the, this whole season in some ways, Ryan, is going to come down to what he does.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Yeah, we kind of said that yesterday. The conversation starts and ends with our quarterback. If he's able to succeed and play well, yes, I think there's a lot of wins out there for him to get. I think you can tie the line with that, though, because if they give him time, you know, first time starting the SEC, you're going to need some time. But if he's out there running for his life because they can't block, that's certainly not going to help him. Yeah. Who's up first?
Starting point is 00:13:34 Got Scott up next. Scott, go ahead, Scott. All right. What's going on, guys? I got a question. I've got a question. So I see on paper, Kentucky, you know, looks like one of the best football teams that we've had. I mean, I'm 50, and I feel like this is one of the best teams I've ever seen on paper.
Starting point is 00:13:54 Yes. And the polls, we're not getting any love. And I never do. I understand that. But I just wonder, I don't have time to. I was surprised by the AP poll, not so much that we weren't ranked, but that we only got three votes, right? Like, I mean, that, that surprised me. Like, we only, you know, Louisville was basically ranked 26th.
Starting point is 00:14:16 What else do we have to do to Louisville? I mean, do we need to beat them 45 times before their preseason ranked? Like, I mean, look. this camera. Louisville is the same every year. Every year we hear in the preseason they're going to be good. Every single year, they say they're going to beat Kentucky, and it's like tied in the, in the, you know, ratings before, and every year we beat them. Like, what else do you have to do? And yet again, Louisville's ranked tire, they'll come in the game nine and two, and we will win again. I don't get it. Why does it happen every year? I don't know. And the fact that they're ranked, like Drew said,
Starting point is 00:14:52 their schedule's not that strong. They're going to rack up a lot of wins. this year. They're going to move up in the rankings, whereas our schedule is super tough. We're going to have trouble. I mean, they don't play Florida State. They don't play Miami or Clemson. So, like, they're going to have a good record. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:05 But, like, if I were looking and saying which team is due for a regression, why wouldn't you pick Louisville? They won five games last year by, like, two points. And then when they got and played good teams, they got destroyed. Lost the last three games of the year. They lost to us. They lost to Florida State, and they lost to USC. So in games against bad teams, they barely won.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Then when they played good teams, they lost. And now you're predicting them to do the same thing this year. Like, if you're a betting person, they are a perfect team for thinking, Ryan, that they're going to regress, right? There's no doubt about it. But like you said, there's a lot of wins out there. So you think the media are like basing this predictions on what their record potentially could be and what our record potentially could be? Well, two things. One, I think it is their schedule.
Starting point is 00:15:53 Their schedule is easy. And the second thing is the media loves Jeff Brom. Again, don't underestimate how much of what people say is based on whether they like you as a person. And I appreciate the call. Like most of the media's comments, especially in college sports, are based on whether or not they like you as a person. So Cal, you know, I will say this. The media was always national media hard on, because they didn't like it, right? So they were hard on it.
Starting point is 00:16:22 The media is going to give Mark Pope a lot of leeway because they like him. And they love Jeff Brom. They've always loved Jeff Brom. He's a good guy. So that people are going to pump up Louisville because they like Jeff Brom. Our friends of Draft Kings have the Governor's Cup as a pick-um right now, if anyone would like to. How is that awesome? If anyone would like to go and partake in that.
Starting point is 00:16:42 I'm not saying like we couldn't lose, we can. But what objective measure is out there that would make you say Louisville is going to be better than Kentucky in that game? They might, they will probably have a better record. But in that game, what is? It's here, too. Yeah. It's not even there. It's correct.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Yeah. Went in there and beat them last year, but it was supposed to be a good team. I just don't. The Louisville stuff is insane to me. At some point, you have to note the, it's like when we used to play Tennessee. We lost 25 straight games. People would say, this is the year. How can you say that?
Starting point is 00:17:11 We lost 25 straight games. That's kind of how I feel about this. What, 859, 280, 2287. Let's see, Ryan. Do you want to, do you want to not? No, you don't want to do that? because that's not one of them. So I'll tell you about Clark's Pumpin Shop.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Tell me about it. They sponsored the golf scramble yesterday. It's fun. They're the ultimate tailgate party. They got beer. It's interesting three things. They got beer, ice, and crispy, crunchy chicken. That's all you need.
Starting point is 00:17:35 That's all you need. You got your beer, you got your ice, you got your crispy crunchy chicken. You get a chicken sandwich. This is like a lot of food. A chicken sandwich, three piece bone and wings or three tenders with a side of wedges, $5.99. How about that deal? That's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:17:49 You get hangar 54 pizza. That's good pizza. You get perfectly Cajun food. It's all there. It's Clark's Pumpin Shop. Return, refresh, and refuel. We will take a break. Be right back.
Starting point is 00:18:07 KS.R. Welcome back. Techie Sports Radio. People are picking up the news of the running back, breaking his hand, and everybody's saying South Carolina is going to beat us. I'm not saying that. It's a good matchup for us. We've got a good run defense.
Starting point is 00:18:21 Yeah. I'm looking forward to it. And they're down a little from last year, right? They lost. They had some lot of key players. They lost Rattler and then they, yeah. So they're down a little bit. I feel good about that.
Starting point is 00:18:30 It's important though. Yeah. We need to win it. 859-280-2287. Text machine 772-7-745254. One person writes, Matt, you don't know what Carhart is. You don't own any tools and you've never hung a picture on the wall. That's why people wouldn't believe you're from Middlesbrough.
Starting point is 00:18:50 First of all, I do know what Carhart is. It's in Madisonville. Shout out Carhart, Madisonville. It's like a thing that, like, people, like, they wear their clothes. And it's like. Workers wear. Yeah. It's like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Workers. Although now it's like trendy and they're jacking the price up. Yeah. It's like cool to wear a Carhart. Yeah. I don't own any of it. But I know it. No, I have not hung a picture and no, I don't own tools.
Starting point is 00:19:15 But, I mean. That doesn't mean you're. That's okay. Have to grow up in the mountains. It just have tools and hang a picture. That's right. Oh, you didn't hang that new pope picture? we have that I saw when I came in.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Did you see it? We got some new 96 tributes on this wall over here. I thought you did that. I have not hung any. Was that you, Ryan? I did that. Oh, nice job, man. I, um, you know, I don't, I don't know how to do anything mainly.
Starting point is 00:19:38 We've got over there. Yeah. Unless you consider golf manly. Do you consider, uh, debate fishing? What do you think is the most manly thing that I can do? Huh. Let me think. It's going to bring.
Starting point is 00:19:56 He can put the equipment together. That's not mainly. That's more technical. I think you don't give yourself. If you actually tried to do stuff, I think you'd be able to pull it off. I just don't think you've given effort. The most manly thing about me are some of the things I like. I like mountain country, real country music.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Yes. Like I don't like Luke Brian and Luke all the Luke's, you know, or the, like I like actual country music that is actually played. in the country. You all like Jeff Gordon country music. I like Dale Earnhardt country music. Okay, that's the difference. You like NASCAR. I like NASCAR. Yes, that's a good one. I like wrestling. Okay. So I like country. So I actually like country things. I mean, this is no offense to anybody, but you go see Jason Al Dean and Luke Combs and even my cousin, that ain't as country as Merle, Wayland, and Willie. It's just not, right?
Starting point is 00:21:00 Yeah. I feel like you've grown three chest hairs in this conversation. I have a lot of chestaches. I have more chest hair than all of you. You make a good argument. Maybe not things you can do, but things that you like are country. Yes, that would be. You have a manly interest.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Manly interest. You could mow your yard if you had to. Oh, yes. I mowed my yard growing up. That's the one chore. You can do. You can do law care. I can do that?
Starting point is 00:21:25 Yeah, so stop it. Who's next? Got Bob up next. Bob, what's up, Bob? What do you think about the city of cars hosting the next Olympics? Saying there's going to be no cars. How's that going to work? I know they say they got the staple center.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Los Angeles said there was going to be no cars during the Olympics. I don't believe that. There are transportation concerns. No, I would have serious transport, but they did not say they were going to have no cars. Did they? Yeah. That's their goal. I'm throwing the challenge flag.
Starting point is 00:22:00 You cannot have no cars in Los Angeles. There's a- It's crazy. Los Angeles makes a preposterous promise. No cars in games in 28. 28. It's on Yahoo. I don't know how they're going to pull that off.
Starting point is 00:22:17 That's going to be almost. They're not going to do. Well, they say they're going to bring in buses from all over the country. Okay. Well, that's still cars. It's just a different. Okay. Still, though, Bob, I'm with you.
Starting point is 00:22:28 I think that is a preposterous thing. They're not going to be able to. They can't do that in, you know. Well, also, how can they, I mean, you had the city of light hosting the, you know, the Olympics. It's, you know, the sun shines on earth then. Anyway, what's in Los Angeles? I mean, homeless people on the sidewalk.
Starting point is 00:22:48 Okay, Bob, calm down. All right. Los Angeles has a million things. Los Angeles, it's not like, do not just believe. what you see on television that Los Angeles is just zombies walking down the street. There are men and there's businesses, there are movie studios, there's a ton of people, there's a ton of stuff in Los Angeles. Oh, I've been there.
Starting point is 00:23:08 I mean, I know the program, but anyway, hey, did you learn how to drive a stick on your rental car deal? Speaking of mailing things I can't do, I appreciate the call. When you guys had the car to stick shift, did you try it? No. Because I know, I mean, no. I just don't want to. It's too much.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Like you got the, you got the clutch and the gas and the break and then the hands. I like, I don't want to eat on that. You're an automatic guy. It feels like to me, like, it's like Jerry Seinfeld used to say about chopsticks. He's like, we have forks now. Like, why are we still doing this? When I go to a Chinese restaurant, I'm like, why do I want to eat with two sticks? We have forks.
Starting point is 00:23:49 They work better. Can I not just have a fork? And they always look at you like you're so unclassy, when you have a fork. Why would I want to eat with two sticks? That's like looking at me and going, you know, take this bucket and drink out of it. I have a fork. I use the chopsticks.
Starting point is 00:24:04 Why? I'm in their home. I feel like if they want me to use chopsticks, I'll use chopsticks. They have forks. I'm not good at it. It's a day. It's a much longer meal. And most of it ends up on the table and floor.
Starting point is 00:24:13 Why would you do something that you're worse at? Just because, you know, it's a good and popular opinion for tomorrow. It shouldn't be unpopular. Forks are better. Forks are better. Okay. On Los Angeles. did you see what won't be there?
Starting point is 00:24:25 Break dancing. Yeah, they decided no break dancing. Poor Raygoon. Good run. You know it's Ray Gunn, not Raygoon. Okay. It's like kind of a pun there. Ray Gunn ended break dancing in one time.
Starting point is 00:24:39 Now, they are adding five sports. Yeah. Baseball. Yes. And softball. That's actually they consider one. La Crosse. Flag football.
Starting point is 00:24:49 I can't wait for that one. Flag football. Cricket. And. squash. Flag football is going to be interesting because does anyone play football but us? Like, aren't we going to, I mean, shouldn't we just destroy everyone? Who else plays football? I don't know, but throw Tyree kill on that team and let's go get our goals. Like they have, they have American football in Europe, but it's all Americans that are playing it.
Starting point is 00:25:14 So like, are they going to get Max? Like, who's going to be playing? What if Max got to play flag football? But I don't even know who our competition could be. Is there any? Canada. Is there any foreign quarterback? No one coming to mine. I mean, is there any four, like there are some foreign offensive linemen? You're right.
Starting point is 00:25:36 There may be some from Canada, but like who's going to play us? Like it's a good move at a sport that we're going to win the goal. Wasn't Bush Hamden born in Kuwait? Maybe he could dust off the throwing arm. So you think he'd be the Kuwaiti coach? I just don't, I'm for it because football's a great sport. I just don't know who's going to do it. Now, I will say there's this talk about whether baseball will allow major leaguers to play.
Starting point is 00:26:00 If baseball allows major leaguers to play, that'd be awesome. They got to figure that out. They need to. They got to figure that out. Like, it works for basketball. Yes. If you had four, if you had Dominican Republic, America, you know, Mexico, Japan, Korea, playing baseball, that would be awesome. That would be very competitive.
Starting point is 00:26:19 Because now it would be a very competitive game. World Base Classic. They already do. That's all. It was great. They need to find. They need to find a way to have the major leaguers playing in the Olympics in LA. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:26:29 Be right back. Skiessi. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. Text machine 772-774-5-2-5-254. One person writes, Matt, does Dionne Walker end the year as the best defensive player to play at Kentucky? I'm going to say no, just because Josh Allen was so good that year. It's going to be hard.
Starting point is 00:26:56 It's going to be hard for Dionne to meet that. But here's what I do think is interesting. Kentucky had, we were talking about this during the golf scrabble yesterday. In the last 30 years, how many Kentucky players were drafted in the first round, defensive players in the first round of the NFL draft? Can you answer that? Dwayne Robertson. Dwayne Robertson was the first one, I think, in like 20 years when he did it.
Starting point is 00:27:22 Then who? What have been Josh Allen? Josh Allen. and then there's one more. Dennis Johnson was not first round. You know who the other one is? Wasn't, no, Bud Dupree wasn't first round. Bud Dupree was second round.
Starting point is 00:27:39 A lot of second and third roundwards was second round. Lonnie Johnson was second round, but we only have one other first rounder. Anybody know? I don't think I haven't ever. Anybody want to go? May I guess? Jamon Davis was the other one.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Oh, my goodness. Jamie Davis. So my point is, there's been three, since 1990. Here's what's crazy. We might have two this year. Yeah. We might have two in one season
Starting point is 00:28:08 when we've only had three in the last 35 years. And Dionne Walker and Maxwell Harrison, Dionne Walker will be a first rounder. Maxwell Harrison has a chance to be a first rounder. He'll either be first or second. You know, that's got to get you excited, that level of talent.
Starting point is 00:28:27 Dion Walker is definitely one of the most talented, defensive players we've had here. He's just going to get double-teamed every single game, you know? So I look for coming by like Oxendine or Silver or one of these other guys maybe to have a big year because Deon's going to take up so much attention. Yeah, he plays a position that will command so much attention to free up other guys. Now, Dion's still going to get his two, but to put him over what Josh Allen did, that's a tough spot. I mean, Josh Allen, you know, unfortunately because of his name and there's another Josh Allen, and he plays in Jacksonville.
Starting point is 00:28:57 I don't think he gets the attention, but he's like awesome in the NFL. I mean, he's considered one of the four or five, like elite pass rushers right now in the NFL. He's like met his height. While you were gone, did you know he changed his name? Yeah, so he's what, Josh Heinz Allen? Yeah, it's a family name.
Starting point is 00:29:12 We do get a lot of three-nameers. Hyphen you. Willie Collie Stein. Yeah, Michael Kid Gilchrist, Carl Anthony Towns, and now Josh Heinz Allen. We are a three-name team. You mentioned the potential two first round picks in Harrison and Walker, but there's also just so much star power with like Dumas Johnson coming over from Georgia.
Starting point is 00:29:35 I know J.J. Weaver's been inconsistent, but that was such a surprise to get him back for a sixth year. That's just why they're so loaded on its side of the ball this season. 859-28027. One person writes, Matt, did you see Japan won the 18 and under world flag football title? Maybe we are in trouble. Oh, there we go. How did that happen? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:58 I didn't know that was a thing, but now I'm even more excited. We'll have some competition. Well, I mean, I didn't know that that was possible, but I guess it was. Jeff Drummond sent me, and by the way, Jeff, hope everything's going. You know, I know he had a health issue. So think of thinking about you, Jeff. He sent me a song called Countryified by John Anderson, and it has this line. I like pretty lights and city nights, but deep down inside I'm countryful.
Starting point is 00:30:26 So let me, this is what he says it means to be country. He says, well, I love my grits. I like grits. I like grits. I love my greens. And country motels and sweet southern bells. Good with that. Fried chicken like a country boy should.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Everything that's finger licking good. I'll be still talking about the chicken there. I like to get loud and dance in a crowd. Me too. Yeah. I like places where jeans are allowed. Oh, yes. I'm a big jeans guy.
Starting point is 00:31:02 You know that. So you can see my countryside. I'm proud to tell you I'm country-fired. Feels like I passed that, Ted. I mean, like I said, really, you live kind of a country life just because you can't do some things or you don't hunt or fish or change a tire. That doesn't mean you're not a country boy at heart. Yes. I'm a country boy in action.
Starting point is 00:31:22 Yeah. Yeah. Who's up next? Hold on. Corey Price chimed in. Bud Dupree was first round, pick number 22. Okay, so four. So we have a chance to have 50% as many in one year,
Starting point is 00:31:32 and that guy out there on the baseball network looks like Ryan. Okay, who's next? Retired ref is next. Retired ref. How are you? I see him down there. Hey, Matt, I've got two things to bring up, and if you've talked about this,
Starting point is 00:31:48 or if it's been on the website, because I try to check your website every day, the kid that was a punter from, Danville. What happened to him? You know, he's still in the team, but I've heard just, you know, hasn't been as good as they thought. I mean, I think that's why they went and got Alex trainer last year. I think that's why they went and got the South African punter this year. Just hasn't ended up being kind of what they thought he would be.
Starting point is 00:32:19 Okay, the second thing, and you brought this up earlier about Brock, he could be good or, I mean, have a good game and maybe not a good game. One of my beats with Stoops is when the quarterback's not having a good game, do like Cow would do and put him on the bench and put somebody else in there to do one of two things to either put a fire. Yeah. I don't know if Cal's the best example of that, of taking guys out. But here's the problem with that.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Tyler Booth. Tyler Booth. Tyler Booth. Look at that. That's country. country right there. That's a country music singer right there. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:58 Now, see, he knows country music. Yeah. That's what I'm talking about. Okay. What were we saying? Oh, I think in order to do that, you've got to have a really good backup. And we haven't had a really good backup since when? I mean...
Starting point is 00:33:16 You don't think Gavin's not good enough? Well, I will see. We'll see. I mean, he certainly is... Yes. In theory, yes. Yes. I've heard that he has been very, very turnover prone. So if you're taking a guy out because he's not playing well, you can't put somebody in that has turnovers. But yes, in theory, this would be a year you could do it, sir. Correct. Okay. All right. Appreciate the call. For whatever reason, quarterback is a position where people don't like to mess with their heads.
Starting point is 00:33:48 You know what I mean? They don't like, like if a linebacker's not playing well, they'll pull them and put somebody. else in. People are just hesitant to do that with quarterback. And with Brock Bandergrief, like I said, he's untested. He doesn't have a lot of playing time under his belt. I think they want him to play through some bumps and bruises because he has not been out there before and learn how to play the right way. And again, I've never been a quarterback, but you don't want to have a guy who's like looking over the sidelines, Drew, going, if I have a bad throw, I'm going to get pulled and it gets in their head, like you don't want that. So, yeah, the depth is more so helpful if God forbid an injury happens. Remember, they're a game.
Starting point is 00:34:23 last few years where you had to go to a backup and that's just completely why they lost. The talent difference from the first quarterback to the second was too much to overcome. This year, if they had to get to that situation, I think they're much better off. Yeah, but I mean, I think the problem they've had for a lot of years is they felt like there was a drop off that was through the roof after the starter. And so I think that's been the major issue. Yeah, they had, you know, in the past couple of years, what was the deuce guy, the guy transferred from Iowa. He was kind of there, but I had to go to Kai Sharon that one game. And that didn't work. I mean, you saw that just did not work. And so, you know, I think that
Starting point is 00:35:04 continues to be a work. I do want to know, we said on this show that we were going to be at the State Fair on Thursday. We're actually going to be at the State Fair next Thursday. Thursday the 22nd. Thursday the 22nd. So we are here at KS. Bar this Thursday. We are at the fair the next Thursday. So if anybody was like wanting to see us there, I just wanted to let you know in case you went. Because the fair does open this Thursday. That's correct. Yes. And we have a remote
Starting point is 00:35:29 Friday, right? Shady rays in Louisville. They're going to be giving away a lot of stuff, I think. So shady rays in Louisville, that's out there at Oxmoor Ball. At the mall? Yeah. 859-280 2287. We're going to take a break when we come back. You know, big country music superstar, Tyler Booth,
Starting point is 00:35:45 in attendance. And a lot of other folks, we'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Look at Rick finding the song. I take care of you, Matt. Well done, Rick. I didn't even ask. I didn't even ask Rick, and he found the song. Pulled it out.
Starting point is 00:36:00 Rick. My man. Hey, I like John Anderson, too. You know, Rick, you can just tell Shannon stay on vacation if he's going to, if he's, you're bringing it. Rick. So, yes, like I said, Kentucky's own Tyler Booth back there with his hat on. Yeah. Over here, right over here. Is he not listening?
Starting point is 00:36:23 Tyler, Tyler, I just gave you a shout-out. There you go. Nice, you got the cowboy hat. See, I saw, I will say to you since you're sitting over there. You know, especially for the first couple months, I about stayed off social media. But I did see after, when Trump got shot, Tyler went on Instagram, and he was like, if anybody wants a piece, I'm right here. Didn't you?
Starting point is 00:36:49 Stand up for you? You were like, if you want some, come bring it right here. And I was like, my man's willing to take on everybody. I loved it. You did better than Secret Service did. Nice job. Proud of Campton, right? Right, out of Pride of Campton.
Starting point is 00:37:03 It's good to see you. Good to see you. For those of you that like, celebrate a good Kentucky with Tyler, I'll talk to you when this is over. Is that all right? Good to see you. He joined us on a football pregame show here a couple years ago. Yes, he did. That's exactly right.
Starting point is 00:37:15 I just saw he's going to Cotton Eye Joseph. one of my favorite bars in America. You're playing Cotton-Nye Joe. Cot-Ni-Joh is a beautiful. I might have to make a little trip. That's right. What was it? Oh, before you go the phones.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Botswana. Botswana. Is a country. Yeah. Won their first ever gold medal. They did. Okay. You know what the event was.
Starting point is 00:37:33 I have no idea. The 200 meters. That was the one where Noah Liles had COVID. Watch that one. The guy that won his name Let's Lee Tobongo. Okay. He won the race. He goes back to Botswana.
Starting point is 00:37:45 Countries never won a gold medal. 35,000 people came to the stadium, the national stadium, to celebrate him, packed it. And all he did was just ride around and everybody, there's a video of it. Everybody loses their money. That's kind of neat. That is very cool. Yeah. You know, we don't understand that because we get gold medals every day.
Starting point is 00:38:06 Yes. For a country like that to win their first gold medal. $300,000 gold medals every day. Every day. Olympic ratings 80% up from the last one. A lot of it may have been back. I think a lot of people tuned in, especially on our end, to watch the basketball team. I can tell you it was up at my house.
Starting point is 00:38:23 I think it was everything. I watched it all. I think it was, I've never watched one like this. Yeah. In terms of seeing watching this much of it, I don't think I ever had. I actually missed two of the basketball games. Probably what missed more basketball than I missed track and field or gymnastics. You know, it's the only time of year I care about swimming and every once every four years that I care about a lot of those sports.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Yeah, I kind of like, you start in the first week. You get a lot of swimming and gymnastics. Then the second week, you get a lot of track and basketball. And, like, it just feels like it works out really well. Simone Biles, that was such a big story. I can't wait to see how her Netflix is going to end now. Yeah, yeah. So it wasn't the response that he got.
Starting point is 00:39:03 But Lee Kiefer, I saw she landed to a big crowd last night. A big crowd of people at the Lexington Airport last night when she landed. So that's cool. Who's up next? Cooper is up next. Cooper. Go ahead, Cooper. Hey, Matt.
Starting point is 00:39:14 First time, long time. Who are? So I got two quick things. The first one, the punter from Danville, I think he went to Boyle County, Jackson Smith. He's at WKU now, I believe. Oh, he went to WKU. Okay, see, I didn't realize that. I know, well, now he's WKU.
Starting point is 00:39:31 I know that it just didn't, like, it was just for whatever reason he was having a hard time adjusting and even some of the yardage that he was getting in high school, he wasn't getting in college. And I don't know. Is it the same ball in high school and college? Same ball? like completely same i think so he was kind of an in-between kicker and punner i don't so i don't really know it just didn't it didn't work out for him but go ahead all right so the second thing uh dain key i know rana like this i grew i think i saw him at the show in richmond at the boot place or whatever
Starting point is 00:40:03 i grew up playing ball with dain i think he's going to have a really good year and don't hang up a listen go catch well i mean you don't have to get him started he's you give me uh over under for dain for the year 10 touchdowns. That's a good number. That's a great number because I was going to say nine. So I'll go out. Just because that, I'll just go under.
Starting point is 00:40:25 I think he gets nine touchdown. Oh, he doesn't believe in any. Listen to that. He went under. It looks like he said six each of the last years. Yeah. I'm going to go over. Over 10.
Starting point is 00:40:33 Well, if he said six of the last two years, and we, you know, he had to play half of his first year without Will Levis. And then he had to play last year with Leary, who was, you know, inconsistent. I'm going to say, Drew, I'm going to say he gets 11. Nice. 11 would be big. I'm looking at the all-time list.
Starting point is 00:40:53 What's the most in the year? Craig Yeast with 14. Stevie Johnson with 13. Keenan Burton with 12 and then four people had 10. Randall Cobb. Okay, so then I'm going to go under. I didn't realize those were the numbers. So, yeah, I'm going to say under. I think there's just too many weapons. Yeah, you can't expect a guy to be like in the top six all time. So I'm going to go under. But I agree with you. I think he's going to have a great year.
Starting point is 00:41:13 Yeah, he will. There's, you know, there's a lot going on. I'm not going to read this Australian when people are making fun of my ad read where I'm like doing the Australian slang. I think it's one of your best ones. You're going to do it here? Yes, I think so. All right. Throw another shrimp on the Barbie.
Starting point is 00:41:30 UFC Australia is coming from down under. You could get on the Draft King's sports book, the official sports betting of UFC. The middleweight titles on the line and the card is stacked full of rip, snorter, blokes, and she-lis. Starting point is 00:42:08 dot CO slash MMA By the way we have our special again, it went up on Monday. You can have your fantasy draft here. Yes. And for like $125, you get like all the food. Like they literally give you the whole restaurant. Like you just, like you and your thing can,
Starting point is 00:42:26 you and your party can eat all this food. And then what? Go on. What do you like that? Just have it all? Just go back there and help yourself. I mean, there's a limit. But like it's essentially all of our food.
Starting point is 00:42:38 Yeah. It's 125. They give you all the food. And then they also have the setup for you. They got the sheet and the names. I think they have that. But they've got it's on the website. We do have the kit.
Starting point is 00:42:53 KSbar, we got a kit. Pickles wings, Koso, Prescell. Yeah, you do have to make your reservation. I'll put up the ad later today and you can see. But make your fantasy football draft usually on the weekends, start really this weekend. We always have really good crowds of people doing their fantasy draft. Yeah, a lot of guys come in, a lot of groups come in and do that. And they always have a great time.
Starting point is 00:43:13 Oscar Shibway signed with the Jazz. Yes. Signed a two-way contract, which will guarantee him for two years to either be on the Jazz or on their G-League team. Are you happy for Oscar? I just hope he gets a chance. You know, it wasn't working out as well. He thought it was going to do with the Pacers. So maybe he'd get a chance with the Jazz to make the roster.
Starting point is 00:43:29 You know, Oscar was 16 and 16 at time for games last year. I mean, you had a good G-League year. So G-League's different than the NBA. It's harder for a big man like Oscar in the NBA. but I still feel like there's a place for him, don't you? Yeah, and I'm glad he got another look. I think Kentucky fans like having a little closer to home than Utah. I know a lot of people would go see him up there and support him in Indianapolis,
Starting point is 00:43:52 but at least he gets another shot and not having to head overseas. I think that, you know, Indiana ended up in the Eastern Conference Finals last year, so they ended up being pretty good, and I think that probably hurt him. I think Utah is a place where he's more likely to potential get play in time. Yeah, he made the playoff wrong. but he didn't get to play it all right I think he was on the roster so if I tell you to rank the all-time Calgary players where's Oscar on the list like like do you I mean without doing it you think he's remember he was national player the year that's it but do you
Starting point is 00:44:26 have him as fourth 8 12 15 like what about where do you put it because yeah I mean again national player of the year me what he did rebounding I don't think we'll ever be done again was also flawed in other areas he's certainly in my top 10 you put him in top 10 for sure yes if you're a player of the year you easily top 10 in my mind i tend to put him like sixth or seventh but i don't know if that's fair to him because he was he was national player of the year so you know wall davison town's number one picks but then i think oscar maybe is in that top five because just because he was player of the year one year he'll be an interesting one because his
Starting point is 00:45:10 he put up massive numbers. Yeah. But he only won one NCAA tournament game and I do think that makes people kind of look at him differently. He was a dominant dominant player when he was here, yeah. He was absolutely dominant. Thank you all very much for listening.
Starting point is 00:45:26 We will be back at KS. Bar tomorrow for the show. Appreciate everybody at the Scramble yesterday and let's get a big weekend. Or I don't know why I said weekend. Big rest of a week. Go tonight. Sing go tonight.
