and you'll never leave Harlan alive, are terrible songs to play at games. You need to be upbeat. No other school plays these morbid hymns at their games. Why do we do that? I would be inclined to agree, except though if you're in Krogerfield and that never leave Harlan alive comes booming through the speakers

and they play the video. There's something about it, man. You get goosebumps when you're in there. And it's not the whole song. It's just a quick little clip. It's only a few seconds. Then it cuts into some better music. Especially if it's at nighttime.

Now they've got the lights, they can get even darker in there. It'd be cool. On that note, somebody said, Happy Chandler's My Old Kentucky Home video is an absolute buzz kill and horrible cringe to watch. I actually think that's kind of sweet. To me, my Oak Kentucky Home is all about when you play. Like, I'm fine playing it after the game.

I don't like it if they ever use it in anything before the game because it's not like an upbeat thing. Like when the cheerleaders, though, after the game or have their, I'm good with that. I think that's kind of, I think that's, that's okay. But you can't use it in anything where you're trying to get a crowd into it, you know. The third downstop. No. They used to play it before the game. That's it.

And they did finally switch it to after the game. I don't think that's, you know, that's something you do. 859-2-80-2287. and one person writes, Matt, my unpopular opinion is that Zach Bryan is way overrated. I hate when people compare him to Tyler. He's nowhere close to Tyler, Sturgle, or Chris Stapleton. He's fine, but he's pop country that somehow people have acted like as real country. I don't dislike him, but I do think he's more pop country than he is actual, like my kind of country.

I've never understood how he gets lumped into the Tyler stuff because I don't think he's, I just don't think that's his style. I like him. I've been to two concerts, but I've never had him in the same conversation as Tyler Childers or Chris Stable and Sturgles. To me, like you're saying, it's a different. It's just a different kind of music. It's not, he's fine. I don't particularly like him. I like him more than I like pop country, but I don't think he's like the other. Revival, his song at Railbird was a religious experience. Everyone that was there was like 13 minutes long. It started raining. That was one of my favorite concert moments. Yeah. Girls really like Zach Brown. I mean, that's kind of his thing, right? Me and girls.

A different. Drew and Girls. girls that's right all right who's up next rick marcia is up next marcia go ahead marcia okay i i don't want to be real critical that our cheerleaders are performers they are not cheerleaders they don't engage with the crowd is what i mean and these outfits that they've worn for 30 years, they're step-furti, like Indiana's still wearing their striped bridges for 50 years. Oh, you think they need to be a little bit, you think they need to be a little bit more sassy, Marcia? How about just normal and not step-furties?

How about a girl with a short haircut? How about a little afro? How about a little chubby girl? Anything. If they're not going to win their championships anymore, how about just normal, you know? and a new outfit every couple years like other schools do. You know, and Nick, our 24-time national championship, we don't say our eight-time win championship basketball team,

let them win another one. Wow, Marsha. Marsha, I appreciate it. Marsha used the unpopular opinion day to get her cheerleading stuff out. First of all, we had someone right here make a cheerleading. comment earlier that they wish they did cheers and engaged with the crowd. That's exactly what Marcia said. I'm glad Marcia said it because it's, I don't think, I don't think it's really an opinion

males have, but I kind of agree on the, it is the same outfit from the 80s. It's sort of like their outfit is a little bit like wearing shoulder pads with suits. Like it's Marcia said it Not me But but With that said though They still are amazing athletes

a picture of your rapist daughter. Okay, no, no, no, no. Rick, drop that. Rick, did you get it? Yep, we're fine. Okay. Bob, we can't say that, okay? I appreciate that.

He deserves it up there. Yeah, or unless he just goes to some kind of like tubby with high point I don't see that happening but not when you're at what is a long time rival Did you see an Arkansas website reported that when Cal got hired, they made a goal of getting 5,000 people into their NIL and that right now they have 680? Oh, wow. I thought they would get more than that. I did too. I did too. I would put everything else aside.

I would have thought the newness of it would have made that work better than that. than I thought. I don't know anything about what's going on over there, but is it similar to how he was just not willing to take help like he was here? I don't know. Because it wasn't looking good towards the end of the last season when he was trying to fundraise. Yeah, I have no idea. I don't know.

That's, that's, I haven't followed it close enough to know, but I did see that this morning. But we all agree he should have a ban on. Oh, yes. And I will stand and cheer when he gets that moment. You will?

Yeah. I wanted it to end, but what are you going to do when he comes in here next year? February. Like, let's just say, let's say that a camera was fixated on Drew Franklin and that the world cared what Drew Franklin did when John Caliperi was introduced. Is Drew Franklin going to clap? Is Drew Franklin going to boo? Is Drew Franklin going to sit neutrally and do anything if he knows the world is going to watch?

I'm not clapping for any opposing coach walking in the Rupp Arena, but I wouldn't boo either. I know people are going to boo and I'm not against it, but I think I would just sit on my hands. when he comes back when his career's over and that banner goes up, I will absolutely cheer because he gave us a great run. I just thought it was long overdue to. By the way, I would sit neutrally too, I think. Do you agree with Mark's story that it will make Kentucky fans look bad if they boo? For me, it's all about where he went.

If he had gone somewhere completely random and just happened to pop on the schedule, I think it'd be a little weird to boo him. But it's Arkansas. I think we should boo whoever the Arkansas coaches. It's kind of like with Rick. You know, Rick Petino considered going to Michigan, and I think if he had gone to Michigan, Kentucky fans wouldn't have been mad at him.

But then he went and went to Louisville, and that was different. I think if he had gone to Michigan, it would have been a different situation. Don't you think that's kind of like that with Cal too? Yeah, I agree. If you're sitting on that other bench, on the other sideline, you deserve what's coming to.

You left us and you're now on the guy we're going to beat. We want to beat you while you're here. So what would Ryan Lemon do if the camera was on him when Cala Perry was introduced? I wouldn't boo. I'd probably, you know what I'd probably do? I probably would give him, I'd give the thumbs down. Oh, wow.

What if he sees it? I'd give him the thumbs down. You would go thumbs down. I think I'd go thumbs down. So you, it's odd because he had more visceral dislike for me and Drew than he did you. But yet you seem to be more likely to give him a negative reaction. Yeah. But that's because in part you, when you hate people.

I definitely wouldn't boo, although I like Drew said, I know there's going to be some people. that will boo. I'm not against the boo. But I don't think it makes Kentucky. I'm not going to boo, but if fans did it, like, I think that's not a surprise. I agree. That's college sports. It's a rival.

Yeah. I mean, if he went, like, to do a few years, where to go? Like, Clarion, he's the Clarion coach. They come play. Sure, give him a little golf clap. But it's Arkansas. But it's Arkansas. Can I make you a prediction of what Cal is going to do before the game?

I want you to write this down in your little book. And remember, that Matthew Harper Jones told you this. He's going to do an interview before the game, where he's going to look at the media and go, now when we go to Lexington, boo me, put all your dislike on me, but don't boo a vich.

Don't boo Big Z. That kid put the uniform on, and none of us were going to boo Big Z. But he will make a big thing about boo me, but don't boo Big Z, even though I don't think there's one Kentucky fan that would do anything but cheer for Big Z. Well, that was kind of last season.

saying quit putting all these players and we're thinking no one is. No one's behind you. Yeah, but you wait. You mark that down. That's a good call. And I do know people don't boo those three players. I would cheer big. I'll cheer all the UK players.

Yeah. I'll cheer DJ. I mean, when the game starts, I don't win, but I'll cheer DJ Wagner. I'll cheer Big Z. Certainly will cheer a do. I'll cheer all three of those guys. Yeah, they'll, they deserve it because they played here and they didn't do anything wrong. Who's next?

Tommy is up next. Tommy. Tommy, go ahead, Tommy. Hey, I, I, promise I'll be more tame than the last call. My unpopular opinion, and I think it's weird. I think most of our fans in Kentucky will probably agree with this one, but nationally, it's like a totally different topic.

I think Anthony Richardson is going to bust hard for the Indianapolis Colts, and I think they've made a horrible mistake in drafting him over our guy, I love us. But when you hear the national opponent's talk, like, they think he's a legitimate MVP candidate this year. And I'm like, show me the game. where he could win without running for 150 yards. Totally agree with you on that.

Totally agree. Like, he gets the benefit, and I appreciate the call. Anthony Richardson gets the benefit of Lamar because they were all wrong about Lamar. They all said Lamar was going to stink, and he was good. And so now they compare him to Lamar, but what they forget, Drew, is that Lamar was good in college. Anthony Richardson was not good in college, and that makes a difference. Vito Tisdell said it best.

No, that boy hot dog water. Still don't know what that means, but I think that was a perfect analysis of his game. And I'm a Colts hater, so I want the worst for this. I hate Louisville with the passion. But Lamar was amazing. Like, he was an amazing college player. And it is so disrespectful to act like Anthony Richardson, who went like five and seven, is as good as Lamar, who won the Heism. I think Richardson's the second best quarterback on the Colts.

I think Joey Flacco is a better quarterback. He's probably should they should play him. Look at who went to a Colts preseason game last Sunday. Just a second. How did you, look at you, you know Joe Flacco is the backup for the Colts? Well, you should be hosting the ESPN show instead of me. Who's next? George is up next.

George, what's your unpopular opinion? I think it's the dad bods, and I'll explain. I don't want to be sitting around next to my wife and our braw thinking, you know, maybe for these man boobs, I need brawl. I want to be able to give my wife a kiss without my stomach getting in the way. I hear all these women talking about wanting to go see Magic Mike. I don't really hear them talking about going in seeing Marshmallow, Mike. I just think they deserve more.

The Reds have Emilio Pagan. You said they're going to go Johnny Bullpen? That's a bullpen. He's a bullpen guy. So they're going to do a bullpen game, I think. Well, I like the Cardinals then. to going against the Reds bullpen. Red's got a decent bullpen, though.

I mean, it's all right. But you're going to take Cardinals? Of course, yes. What about you? When Ryan said he was pretty much checked out of the playoffs already, he told me what kind of mind frame Cardinals Nation is in. So I'm going with the Reds. Yeah, I'm going to take the Cardinals just because the Reds don't sweep the,

Reds haven't swept the Cardinals in seven years. Oh, wow. So it's hard for me to see them doing it tonight. So since they won the first two, I will take them. 859-2-80-228. One person writes, Matt, my unpopular opinion is, I don't know that Pope's going to be good. I feel like I'm the only person that believes that, but I just worry about it. He's yet to get a good recruit, and this is Kentucky, and we're not going to always want guys for mid-majors.

I mean, he's got to go win. You're right. I mean, we're all excited right now. We all believe in it right now, but they still have to go out and win the games, and that'll bring in the recruits the following year. Well, we hope it will. I have recruiting concerns like anyone else. I think it's a little unfair to judge him on this first round.

He did it a matter of weeks while getting a coaching staff. So I'm not going to put any. I think he did a good job in the portal. Yeah. I'm more looking at next year's class and saying, you know, I want to see at least one or two top guys in that class. And he's still got time to do that. He still got time to do it.

I'm concerned, but I'm not going to close the book on his recruiting. I actually think the portal went well. You know, they lost a couple guys. but when you know the specifics of those circumstances, I understand why, like, like John L. Davis, and he just asked for an absurd amount of money and wanted to be guaranteed a starting time,

or starting spot, and, you know, Pope doesn't even know what his roster's going to be yet, so I kind of get it, right. We all went a great Ossebor, then his price went up, like, threefold. And they got a commitment, and then they got a commitment right before then.

So, like, you know, we're from Garrison, so. Really, you know, he did a great job putting the pieces together to fit his system. And in a short amount of time he had, he went out and got each spot. He's got at least one guy. Well, he's got two guys in a lot of those spots that will fit his system. Yeah, who's up next? Ted is up next.

Ted, go ahead. Gentlemen, that was a great segue. I'm calling from Chicago, but I'm a UK alum. I know I got to move faster. I was there during the Joe B. Hall reign with Billy Gillespie. But we got some breaking news here in Chicago. WSER Radio here is reporting per Greg Swartz. The Bulls are expected to part ways with Billy Gilles.

Donovan. And what's weird about this is that it's probably not going to be the end of the season. Yeah, it's probably not going to be the end of the season. They're saying the Bulls are obviously a team in rebuild and they want to coach, quote, more geared to player development. And Donovan's made a clear quote, he wants to coach a team ready to win. So I don't know if UK seriously ever considered Donovan. And this isn't not a slam against Pope, but this is major news. Because Donovan had to know this. And if he knew he was going to be moving on. No, there's no, no, I mean, clearly they've changed their mind. There's no, there'd be no rational basis to keep him this long and then let him go now.

No, no, I'm saying it, well, I know, but if this went down, when the Cal thing was going down, perhaps maybe if they did talk to, and maybe you guys know, did they talk to Donovan? And perhaps this is why they didn't go to Donovan, because he doesn't want to go through player development again. This is all kind of stunning to us. Well, if that's true, and I appreciate the call, I haven't seen the report, so I have no way of knowing. but, you know, they did talk to Donovan. They had to wait for him. They had to wait for it because they were still in the playoffs. And then they basically, Donovan said wait until after the playoffs.

And they didn't feel like they could wait that long. So because I understand if you're Mitch Barnhart, Billy Donovan has turned you down twice and has twice kind of led you on. So you don't feel like you can wait because you got to remember there was a time crunch because we had to go build a roster. We didn't have a roster. We were going to have to start from scratch. so I just don't think he felt like he could wait.

And then the other thing is, I mean, what made Mark Pope end up the hire is they kind of got work. I think here's something we didn't know at the time. They knew they were about to get in trouble for this football thing. Remember, that's a university-wide probation. That's not just football. That's the whole thing. They knew that was coming.

And I think that is why they were told they couldn't hire, Bruce Pearl. What's crazy is when Chris Rodriguez and those 10 players ended up getting their time cards signed at UK healthcare, this is what the butterfly effect. I think Bruce Pearl's a coach at Kentucky if that doesn't happen. Do you think that kept him from calling? I think it kept them from calling. And I think had that not happened, I think there's a decent chance he gets the call and he's

the coach. We know Bruce would walk here. So, you know, that is, that's just the way it goes. It's, it's the butterfly effect. It's an interesting scenario that hadn't thought about that he prevented him from even getting a call if they knew those sanctions were coming

for the university. I think they were, I think they were told, hey, there's a group of people you can't talk to, and I think at least two of those people would have been on the list otherwise if that hadn't happened. Well, you know, you did, you came on here one day. There was a couple guys that Eli Capiludo said, do not.

We're not going to contact these guys. I guess Pearl was one of those guys you were talking about then. Yes, Bruce Pearl, Sean Miller, and I think they did talk to Nate Oates, but that might have been an issue had it gone, had that Nate Oates conversation gone farther. Nate Oates, what was 24 hours into the process, he put out that statement saying he was out. Yeah, 859-28027. What's next? Got Dustin up next.

You had one that you haven't given yet. This is your personal opinion. I thought it was going to be a scorching hot take,

but after our callers have just thrown stones at Tim Couch and Kay Wood and cheerleaders, I don't feel that bad pulling Anthony Davis down a notch. Oh. I love Anthony Davis. Oh. He is, I think, the greatest ever. play here. Wait a minute. Watch yourself. However, John Caliperi would still have zero titles, if not for Duran Lamb. He won that, not Anthony Davis. Listen, 17 points per game in the 2012

in the tournament, seven for 12 from the field for 22 points in the title game. Kansas played lockdown defense, and Duran normally hitting those corner threes, he started attacking the rim, and Duran was the offense. And on top of that, he didn't sleep the whole time. So we still don't title even though Anthony Davis is great he took the fifth most shots great defense he made up for what he wasn't scoring they still don't win that game without duron lamb he was the he is the most valuable player of the tournament run he is not the whole season and i'm not saying he's better but in those six games duron lamb put the team on his back i think i've heard and you can correct me if i'm wrong did anthony davis take the fifth most shots he was great great his defense was very

important not down playing that but they don't win it without deron yeah no i mean i think that's true of any title team you can find a secondary player and say they wouldn't have won if he didn't if he didn't play well. No, I don't think that's, I understand where you're getting at. They wouldn't have won that game unless he played well. But I also think if someone else had been there, they might have played well too. Anthony Davis was irreplaceable on that team. But Duran Lamb is underrated sort of in what an amazing shooter he is and how important he was.

Specifically that game. Kansas locked him down and Duran said, hey, it's Duran time. Team no sleep. Let's watch some Martin. Here we go. He was a great shooter. Andy Davis only had eight points, I think, in the championship game. There you go.

But he did, like, dominate the inside, even during. He did. But Duran is the goat. Took the fifth most shots. One person writes, mine, popular opinion, Hooters' wings are the worst wings that have ever been made in the history of food. It's a harsh sentiment. They're not as good as our wings.

I used to really think Hooters' wings were good until two places changed my mind. One is, well, really three. One is this place for the bone in wings. One is roosters for the bone out. And then the place up in northern Kentucky where they double fry. What's that place called? I always forget what? Barley corns.

Barley corns. Once I've had all those three, you kind of realize how, like, it's like eating tomatoes out of a can. And then you have an actual tomato. It's different. You're talking about you. That's unbelievable. All right. Who's next? Nolan is next. Nolan, what's your unpopular opinion? Yeah, especially after these past Olympics, which I love. They're all athletes. But can we all just agree that gymnastics and

diving just aren't sports. Anytime you have a judge, it's just not a sport, right? I mean, you have judges for, you know, the best sheep at the 4-H fair and quilting at the state fair. Those aren't sports, right? You do have judging for sheep and quilting. I don't know if that makes it the same thing. Okay, so that's a classic. Appreciate the call.

Classic question, what's a sport, right? So to me, a sport is does it have athletic ability? So gymnastics and diving are both that. It's an imperfect sport because there's judging. I will grant you that because you can have human fallibility getting the way of the winner. But it's certainly a sport. I mean, gymnasts may be some of the best athletes Ryan that exist.

If you're just talking pure athleticism, and they're certainly more athletic than like a ping pong player. So, I mean, I don't mind saying that they are, that they're sports. They are 100% athletes. is a 100% of sport. But you're right. It just seemed odd that it's judged by three people sitting on the sideline. But I don't know how else you could do it.

Like what else are you going to do, you know? Like you got to have judges. It's not like you're... It's how they get their points. It's not like there's a race, you know. I mean, it's... I hear the argument, but I think Simone Biles is a little different than the guy pulling his sheep out and saying, look at this thing.

What score did we get, you know? By the way, if you want to note how much Olympics are based on when we watch it in America, whether or not we're good at it, the sport that showcases the most is diving because when we when i was young diving was on tv all the time yes it was they showed diving almost as probably more than they showed swimming uh-huh and then we suck at it now and it i i didn't see one diving a bit did you no you're right but we saw katia lodecki swim every event like greggis hitting his head oh it's huge is one of my strongest sports memories and i don't even know i don't know that i saw one dive this year

at all. I can remember going to my grandmother's house and watching Olympics on that gigantic box TV everyone used to have, and we would be watching diving. I thought I'd get into diving more this year, but it's like it almost didn't exist. In America, if the America's not good at it, it is not a sport that we recognize as being played, I think, most of the time. What's next? Got Phil up next. Phil, what up, Phil? Hey, I love the program, guys. Listen, the interlocking UK is 800% better than that stupid power K. We are UK. We are not K. Get rid of the K, quit living that dream.

But I would have thought if you had seen me and you were my friend on a Thursday at 2 o'clock, I would have told you I think the most likely coach is Bruce Pearl. But I didn't know, Drew, they couldn't talk to him.

I will boo a team, but an individual player, I just, Ryan, don't, I just, I don't know that I can do that. I think most of us, you don't fault Big Z for wanting to go play for Cal. Cal is the one that helped him get here, helped him get eligible. I think he feels very close to Cal. I don't fault him for one to play for Cal.

Would you boo a woman's team? Ooh, I don't think I could. I don't think I could either. Louisville's. See, I don't even think I could boo Louisville's. I would boo Jeff Walls. I don't know if I could boo the women's team. They're just maybe too much like Mountain in me.

And I also think we should play Johnny Cash by Kid Rock at the games. Now, I'm not playing anything by Kid Rock. So besides that, I actually agree. I like the idea of the little stickers where you reward guys for things.

I think UK should do that. Have we done in the past? I think Freddie's team, I've friends talked about them how they would get stickers. I don't know how long that last. I think they did it. I think that would be cool, don't you? I've always thought that was cool when Ohio State did those. I think so. I'm on board with that.

Yeah, I'm pro. I'm pro-sticker. I completely agree. I think that would be really good. What's next? Cody is next. Cody, go ahead, Cody. Hey, man, what's going on, guys?

I've got a pretty controversial one. Michael Beasley is the most talented freshman that has ever played college basketball, and he had the greatest individual single season in college basketball history for a president. I want to hang up and listen. I don't know if it was the greatest, but Michael Beasley's year at Kansas State was pretty amazing. The team was terrible, and he was great, and he made them competitive. And you look at his numbers, they're like off the charts. It's kind of like Kevin Durant at Texas.

People don't realize how great that he was because that team wasn't very good. But Drew, Michael Beasley, that's not a ridiculous call. No, I just looked up. He averaged 26 and 13 as a freshman. Wow. I mean, 26 points a game in college as a freshman. That's really unbelievable, Ryan. Yeah, you could get all the other guys, Duran, Carmelo Anthony, Kyle and Iverson.

We think of Carmelo having a great freshman year because they won the title. But Duran and Beasley were on bad teams in it, you know, which I think it makes it even. And who really knows anything about Kansas State basketball other than a few run-ins we've had with them. He kind of is what you think of with Kansas. Who's the best U.K. freshman in history that played on a bad team? Nerlins, but that's kind of injury-related. Yeah, they weren't bad until he got hurt, though. Jamal Murray?

Jamal. I was getting ready to say Jamal Murray. Yeah. Might be Jamal Murray. And they weren't terrible, but Jamal Murray was, go look at Jamal Murray's stat sometime. Oh, yeah. They were really, really good, and we kind of don't always think about it

because they lost to Indiana in the second round that year. What's next? Casey is next. Casey, real quick. Hey, fellas. So you know how they say that you shouldn't speak ill of the dead? I think that's a perfect time to talk about somebody because they're dead and won't hear you. So I think that it's the opposite.

I think be kind to get me glad with mom here. What an opinion. Wow. Okay, so your belief is rather than don't speak ill of the dead, that is the best time to speak ill of them because they won't hear it. Exactly. You know. That's fair.

I appreciate to call. I've always been one to say, don't speak ill of people when they die. But we say that you should say nice things about people while they're alive so they can hear it. So maybe it actually is nicer to say mean things when they're dead and can't hear it. So she's saying give them their flowers while they're here, but dig their flowers up as soon as they're gone and get rid of the flowers. That's not a crazy opinion. It's not. I'd never thought about it like that.

I always say when somebody dies, I give them 48 hours. Like 48 hours where I don't care who you are, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything else.
