He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
A rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?

comedy off-Broadway this is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage now here's matt Jones welcome everyone at Kentucky Sports Radio Monday August 19th I'm Matt Jones here on an absolutely beautiful morning
in for me, New York City.
We got Ryan and Drew in Lexington.
Shannon is in Louisville, and you can give a shout
on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line.
That's 859-280-2287.
A-Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-744.
And this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office,
he'll make them pay.
Ryan, it is a beautiful skyline here in New York.
I'm sitting here looking at all the buildings.
I just see a plane overhead.
I hope it's as nice in Lexington as it is here.
It's kind of a little gray.
It's been kind of gray and rainy all weekend.
Yeah, you got out of here, I think, at the right time.
We've kind of had a soggy weekend here in Lexington, including this morning.
Yeah, well, I think it's pretty, I think it's pretty awesome here.
And, you know, we only have two weekends left, Drew, until we're getting football all weekend.
The first game actually starts Thursday, but it's nice to see it going now.
Yeah, it's getting close.
I already got a little taste of what's to come because Abby needed a ride to campus today.
which happens to be moving day.
So that was a lot of fun,
but I got to see all the chaos getting started over there.
Yeah, I bet.
I didn't think about that.
Today and tomorrow, I think, are moving days.
And Ryan, if you don't spend time in Lexington,
move in day, the traffic is awful.
People don't really know where they're going.
You know, they park their cars in the middle of the street.
It actually can be a very hectic couple of days.
You're right.
For those of us who live in Lexington or spend a lot of time in Lexington,
move in day, you stay absolutely as far away from campus as you possibly can.
because it is a nightmare.
It's a zoo usually on moving day.
I'm a good husband.
I got her three-fourths of the way there.
I feel like that's 75%.
That's close enough.
Just a few blocks away.
Yeah, I'm generally of the opinion that, you know,
as long as you take your wife three-fourths of the way there,
the rest of it's on her own.
That's what marriage is,
is taking them the first three-fourths of the way there.
Then after that, you know, they do have to be independent.
But I'm looking forward to people getting back in school
and kind of getting these seasons going.
It feels like to me this is one of the most anticipated football, basketball, women's basketball,
baseball combos.
I would say, Ryan, if you throw in all four sports, I'm not sure I can remember a year where
Kentucky fans were this excited about the group as a whole.
Usually you think one of them won't be as good.
But to have this coming school year in many ways, I think it will define what is Kentucky football.
like in the new SEC.
What is the Mark Pope era like?
What is the Kenny Brooks era like?
And will the baseball team, was that a one-shot fluky year or is it consistent?
It's almost like every program in some ways is looking at their new future in the upcoming season.
Yeah, you know, when you laid it out like that, you're right.
It's very rare for to be this much excitement over all four of the major sports.
And I think the two new basketball coaches obviously throw a big, big bolt of excitement
into those programs.
But with the baseball team coming off the World Series
and the football team,
supposed to have one of the best teams,
maybe the best team is the Mark Stoops era.
There is a lot to be excited about
in those four sports.
You know, Drew, the best team of the Mark Stoops era leads to.
I love when the, this is a good thing about the new edition of Mario,
is that clip, you know, things we say on the show can be put out there.
And then, you know, a group of fans who don't listen to us will get to hear it.
And that happened to me last night with the,
with the clip that came from the show out at Shady Ray's,
where I said something to the effect of,
it's not crazy,
but Kentucky could go to the nine and three in the playoff,
and I laid out why.
Now, of course, it didn't, you know,
Drew, didn't have the few days on it before,
but he's been yelling at me for saying,
I think they're going to go seven and five,
and that's as good as they can do.
This was the hypothetical.
And every fan base,
in the SEC got a hold of that video,
Drew, which in part shows that people listen to KSR.
I mean, have you ever listened to a video or watched a video from like an
Auburn radio show ever in your life?
Never.
No, I have things to do.
I have no interest in watching an Auburn video.
But I'm glad they all like watching us.
They all like watching us.
And what I learned is especially these fan bases, South Carolina,
Auburn, Tennessee. Those were the three that kind of latched on to it the most.
I don't know if Ole Miss has a fan base because they never respond to anything.
But those three, it was interesting to see for all three of those teams,
and I'll throw in Louisville too to make it four.
Their fan bases see us Drew as their automatic win.
Right. So when I said in there, okay, South Carolina would be five,
Auburn would be six, and you don't even have to be that good to win those games.
And then I said next would be Florida, next would be Louisville.
The South Carolina, Auburn, and Louisville fans see our game and say, well, we're winning that one.
Yes.
Which to me is crazy, especially Louisville, because you haven't beaten us in forever.
But it is interesting, Drew, as you're kind of thinking about, well, of course we should win at least eight,
to think that four of those teams you think you're going to beat, they look at Kentucky and go, well, we're going to win that game.
You know, we all know Louisville.
They're not, they're not all right in the head when it comes to confidence about football.
But South Carolina is getting way too chesty after winning the last two under unique circumstances after Kentucky was in control of that rivalry.
I don't know why they're so confident in week two and they still figure out a quarterback situation going to come in pretty inexperienced.
So I don't understand where all their confidence is coming from.
But it just adds to how much we want to smack them around when they get up here in Lexington.
And we owe them for punching Ryan last year too.
So I hope they bring that confidence in.
But I, you know, this goes back to the overall point in some of the conversations we've had about expectations of the team.
You know, we have strong members of our fan base that's like believe not only should we win eight, nine games.
It should be the floor.
We should expect more.
But then everybody else in the world, Ryan, they don't look at us like that.
Now, they're delusional too.
I mean, I saw Auburn fans saying they were going to win 10 games.
And I, you know, that makes me laugh.
so they may look at it the same as we do for us.
But I just, you know, I don't think we, as much as Kentucky football has changed in our eyes,
it's clear to me, having looked at the comments on my post,
how little it's changed in other team's eyes.
And that's why I think this year is also important to get wins over all those programs that I'm talking about.
Yeah, we've talked about this on the show.
It's always interesting to get the perception of the outside fan base or outside media.
Now, the media, a lot of times, they recognize Kentucky's program is better,
than it used to be, but the fan base still sees Kentucky as the two and ten, the one and eleven
teams in the years past. Whereas like, Auburn's a great example. They're not the Auburn of
old. Their program has kind of been down and they're not going to be that good this year,
but yet they still look at Kentucky like, well, that's the Kentucky of old. We can beat them.
Well, they look at it like they're going to win on the road here. We're going to be favored
in that game, aren't we? Yes. Yes. I mean, I would think we're favored. I mean, they could
win, but I would assume we're going to be favored in that game.
So, Shannon, I decided as part of this.
Do you think you know all 24 UK starters this year?
No.
No.
Yeah.
And that's not critical of you.
I think the how, what percentage of our audience, Shannon, do you think knows the name of
every UK football starter?
Well, honestly, probably 5% maybe.
5%?
Maybe.
I think the number is less than that if I just said name all the start.
Right, right.
If I just said to someone who's listening to this show, let's say it's somebody who listens every day,
I want you to name all the starters for UK football.
I'm not sure very many people could do it.
I would argue, Shannon, I'm not sure anyone in the KSR landscape could do it except maybe Drew.
I think Drew could do it.
Yeah.
Drew, I think you could do it.
Do you think Ryan could have done it before he got his?
assignment yet last night, Drew.
If you had put him on the spot,
love you, Ryan, no chance. I don't think you
could have rattled it off. Now, I'm sure you did your homework, but
I don't know that he could have before yesterday.
Do you think you could have done it before last night?
No. I had to call
somebody to find out one of the soldiers. Drew, Drew, Drew,
Drew. I could. I've been writing about
him. I've been keeping up with camp. The
college football game probably helps a lot of people
honestly. Back when that was a regular game, that's how
I knew the rosters across the whole
sport. A lot of times you had to enter the
names yourself. So that's how it really
helps learning but okay that's interesting i hadn't thought about that there might be younger people who
know it because of that game so anyway along those lines shannon i thought i'm going to introduce
today the starters to the team and ryan and drew were assigned shannon to each find a fact about
the starting players i like that yeah yeah like this so one of you has offense i guess ryan you have
offense and true has defense so we'll go back and forth each of you will do one over the course of
the show so right i'll start with you i assume you start with you i assume you start
with the quarterback position.
Your job was to give me an interesting fact about each player.
I will judge whether or not it's interesting.
But what do you have on Brock Vandergriff?
That he has become, he's a great leader.
Like he, the guys really like him.
He's a leader.
And that's something that was kind of missing last season from the quarterback.
That, you know, when he steps into the huddle, he's got command of the huddle and people
respect him because he is a great leader.
I think that's a valuable asset he's got bringing to the team this year.
All right, Shannon, your job is to judge if these are interesting facts or not.
Do you think Brock Fandergriff is a leader is an interesting fact?
I love you, Ryan.
You know I do.
But no, no, it's not interesting.
I mean, Shannon, it's not the most interesting fact.
I want to know what he does in a spare time.
Like, you know, about us fishing and hunting and all that stuff.
We've already talked about that.
I didn't want to say stuff we've already talked about.
But I feel like we've talked, Shannon, about him being a great leader.
No, we haven't?
No, we not.
I don't know if we have.
We talked about being a hunter and a fisherman and he throws dots.
But now you're also saying he's like a tribal leader as well.
I just think that's good to hear that your quarterback's a good leader or something we'd miss last year.
All right.
Shendon's a good fact or bad fact, Shannon?
It's a good fact, but it's not an interesting fact.
Not an interesting fact.
Okay, O and one.
Drew, interesting fact.
Interesting fact on defense.
I'll add to Brock that he doesn't swear.
He says fudge when he gets mad.
I find that to be unique for a college kid.
That is.
See, that would have been an interesting fact.
Yeah, right?
I'm helping him out.
All right, that's okay.
You don't get a point for Ryan.
That was not swearing would have been an interesting fact.
All right, you lead off the first one on defense.
I will start with the name everyone already knows our All-American defensive tackle, Dion Walker.
I hope everyone that likes UK football knows a lot about him.
But I would like to add to the discussion that he was a high school basketball star
who recently tweeted about wanting to try out for Mark Pope's 13th spot.
in the open tryouts.
And when he's done with football,
he wants to follow the Ryan Lemon path into real estate
after his NFL career.
Nice.
Okay.
All right.
Gotcha.
Shannon,
interesting fact.
I'm going to give him an interesting fact on that one.
I think that's an interesting fact.
Did you know he also ran when he was 15,
he ran the 100 meter dash?
How long did it take him to get there?
Is he still running?
I guess that's a good point.
I wouldn't bet against him.
Yeah.
It doesn't say anything to run.
I guess the point is, did you finish it?
Right?
Exactly.
Anyone can run the 100 meters of it.
Yes.
All right.
So there you go.
All right.
So I would say Drew is one for one.
Yep.
Ryan is 0 for one.
One for one.
Ryan, what's your interesting factor about the next player?
You want to just go, we start with like the center.
We're going to kind of go middle out.
There you go.
Go whatever direction you want to go, quarterback.
All right.
Eli Cox.
This will be his sixth season at a West Jessman.
He had a redshirt season.
And of course, he had a COVID season.
This is his third year in a row as a starter.
She started at Wright Guard, then he kind of moved to center last year,
but he's the anchor, and he is considered to be the best offensive linemen on the team.
All right.
Interesting facts, Shannon?
No.
Look, Ryan had a birthday yesterday, okay?
I'm going to give him a, you know, a play.
Okay, by the way, happy birthday, right?
Thank you.
We said that online, but we need to say it on here.
All right, so far, Ryan is 0 for 2 on interesting facts.
Drew, let's do one more before the break about your defensive interesting fact.
I'm going to stay on the defensive line where they're missing Josiah Hayes, a couple others,
but Kishon Silver's due to have a big year.
He's from Rocky Mountain High School.
Shout out Dan from Rocky Mount and his nickname is Big Country with a K and he held a big country
football camp this summer.
When he's not football camping, his karaoke song is sitting on the dock of the bay.
See, that's interesting.
That's a great interesting fact.
I immediately, what was the name of the player again?
Kishon Silver transferred from North Carolina.
But you know what?
I got it now.
When I see Kishan Silver, I'm going to say, Shannon, big country.
And then I'm going to say to him, would you like to sit on the dock?
Like, well, I'm not going to ask him if he wants to sit on the dock of the bay, but I'm going to ask him if he likes that song.
Yeah, maybe he could sing a few bars for you.
You know, it's a karaoke song.
All right.
So, so far, Drew two for two, Rino for two.
And I worry about mine because those were two of my best ones.
Oh, boy.
Oh, boy.
It's all downhill from here.
Those are two of my best ones.
Oh, for 12.
Brock Vandergriff is a leader.
You thought was one of the best ones.
Yeah.
Nobody else said that.
Well, we will have more.
This should keep you tuned in.
We'll have more of those facts and a little update on recruiting, the new UK beer, and a lot more.

Are you a good person?

Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.

at the hips since high school. Now a redacted amount of years later. We're still joined at the hip.
Just a little bit bigger hips, wider. This is a podcast. We're recording it as we tailgate our youth
soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey with all the snacks and drink. Sidebar. Why did you get
hard seltzer instead of beer? Oh, they had a bogo. Well, then you got it.
Do you want a white collar or something here? Just take it. What are y'all doing? Microphones? Are you making a
Rap album?
I would buy it.
Cut through the defense like a hot knife through sponge cake.
That sounds delicious.
Oh, you're lucky I'm not a drug addict.
You're lucky I'm not an alcoholic.
You're lucky I'm not a killer.
I love this team and I'm really trying to be a figure in their lives that they can rely on.

Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through
life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time.
You ladies know what I mean.
I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do.
So let's talk about it.
Join me on my new podcast.
How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to
Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS.
All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own.
I was like, what the hell?
Is that?
I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that Ness was going to be.
Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45.
How hard can it be?
How can it be?
How can it be?
How can it be?
That one's kind of hard.
Well, that's lighting.
They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and
ask, how hard can it be?
I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud.
in public.

Yeah, that's it.
All right.
Big country.
Kishan Silver.
I will tell you
who's not getting praise,
Shannon,
on the text machine.
And that's right,
yeah.
You know,
and I forgot a great fact
about Eli Cox.
I knew it and forgot it.
He got married
this past off season.
There you go.
Okay.
Well, that's better.
Give you a half of them.
But you didn't, I mean, you can't answer it after a commercial break.
We're probably someone texted him in, Shannon, and said that.
Oh, they did.
Well, exactly.
That's not a fact if other people.
That person gets one.
That person gets one.
One person writes, the other day, Ryan's facts are not only not interesting.
They're not facts.
A leader.
Rock.
Brock Van der Graff being a leader is not.
It's not a fact.
And Eli Cox being the best offensive lineman is also not a fact.
Both of those, Shannon, our opinion.
That is true.
That is true.
That's a great point.
Wow.
Do you have a response to that?
Yeah, I totally misunderstood the assignment.
I've been trying to really talk football stuff.
Give you some football info to get ready for kickoff.
Why did you think this was going to be talk football stuff?
Drew, have we ever had that as what we did here?
It's rare.
It's certainly rare.
I'm loving the game, though.
I think we're off to a great start.
I think we're off to a good start.
He's doing a really good job.
Is Ryan going to make stuff up from here on out to try to make it interesting?
No, here's what he's doing.
He's scrambling and trying to find something interesting.
All I just did.
During the commercial break.
We'll be the judge of that, Ryan.
You hang on.
All right.
So the NILBIR, so the N.I.L.
B.
Kentucky Blue Light came out Friday.
It was supposed to Shannon or Drew only be released today.
But I don't know exactly what.
what happened, but we ended up having it at the bar this weekend.
We went through a keg in like a day because people were loving it.
It did very well.
So it will be at, well, it's going to be at the bar from now on, but we have specials going
today through the weekend where it's $3 can, $4 pint or whatever.
You know, the money goes to NIL.
It's clear people are into it.
I'm told it the few stores that had it initially, they sold out of a,
out of all of them.
So really this week at the bar is your chance to really start it.
But it seems like the goal of trying to raise money through beer for Kentucky and IL
is off to a good start.
On Friday, I went to KS Bar to do some other stuff and looked up and saw it was already
tapped.
So I had three of them.
I helped float that a little bit.
I'm doing my part for UK athletics.
Yes, you are.
When you asked the other day, I don't think I gave a very good review.
I have people still asking me.
But I want to make it clear, it's a very like a light.
Hillsner, very drinkable.
Well, and, you know, it's not something that's going to be real heavy.
You might be all have a couple, maybe a handful.
Up to you, don't drive.
But I wanted to make that clear because people weren't sure exactly what type of beer it was.
Yeah, I was told by someone who went, it's like a classy or demure bud light.
That that's kind of what it is, Ryan.
A classy or demure bud light, I did.
You're exactly right.
I know the trends true.
I'm trying to get to where Mario can teach me.
But that's, it's kind of a classier bud light.
Ryan, what do you think about that?
that. It's good. I mean, it's like I compared it more to a Miller light than a
butler. I thought it tasted a lot like Miller Light and people love Miller Light. So it's
going to be very popular. I think it is too. So we'll have it at the bar all week.
You should go take a drink, Shannon, and then you can go, I'm doing my part. That's right.
I'm doing my part. And it makes it feel like you're helping us with. When we win Saturday,
you can go, I did it by drinking the beer at KS. That's right. You know, for people who maybe don't
want to pony up and donate.
That's the way to pony.
That's right.
This is the way your pony.
Bottom's up.
That's right.
A pony up.
Yeah.
859-28027.
A couple open lines.
So give us a call.
I'll take calls next segment.
What's your next fact, Ryan?
You're 0 for two.
Let's see what number three is.
Well, you know, we're going to go middle out.
So we did center.
So I'm going to now go left guard.
Which is also weird, Shannon, to go middle out, right?
Yeah.
Like I mean, I thought he was going to do running backs and then wide receivers.
But it's okay.
What do you got?
Well, and thankfully, it's Jagger Burton.
A guy I've known for a long time, played at Frederick Douglass.
You've known him since he was like five.
So if he can't come up with an interesting fact about him, Shannon, I'm worried.
Yeah, come on, what do you got?
All right.
His nickname is Moose.
They call him Moose.
He's a big lake guy.
They live out on the lake, so he loves being out on the lake.
Lake Harrington.
He's boat like all the time.
He played lacrosse in high school.
And he's got my football fact, 25 starts in a row in games he played.
He missed the Missouri game because he was hurt last year, but he started 25 games in a row.
But he started 25 starts in a row in the games he played.
Yeah, he set out completely set out the Missouri game.
So win healthy.
When healthy, he started 25 games in a row.
Yes.
That's an interesting way.
Drew, I've never heard that explained as a statistic like that.
In the games he plays, he starts, but then he doesn't play sometimes.
He was on a role there with some fact.
I also had to stop and think a minute about how he first.
that but I understand now when he's not
injured he is correct
fair enough Shannon you're the judge
interesting fact or not right
you could have told me like why they call him moose
that would have been interesting
like why is his name moose I'm
no it's not interesting
I thought you were going to give him that one
I really did no no no I want to
I want to right you knew him for your
entire life yeah those are my three best
ones all right Drew defense
what's yours
All right, I'm staying on the line at defensive end.
We're looking at a little Trayvon Ripka starting over Octavius Oxendon, who's a great backup.
Was that a surprise, by the way, that Rip is right now starting to you?
They're so deep.
Not really because he's been awesome, but I mean, have Oxenon right behind him.
That's a good too deep there.
He's a senior played in 11 of 13 games.
And, you know, he's lined up next to big country.
And his nickname is Chunky, which makes it very impressive that outside of football,
he likes to play tennis and longboard.
I don't even really know what longboard.
Oh, really?
He longboards.
What is that?
Is that just surfing with a long board?
I think it's,
is it like skateboarding with a long board?
I really don't know.
I doubt surfing being in Lexington.
Maybe.
Where'd he grow up?
That's a great question.
I should have that for you.
Okay, we don't need to know.
Okay.
Longboarding.
Yeah, it's just rollerboarding or skateboarding basically.
I know he's from Tennessee, which also isn't near a body of
for him to surf a lot if he's from Tennessee.
But at nearly 300 pounds, I want to see him play tennis.
Chunky, he also plays tennis at 300 pounds and lawn boards.
Shannon, interesting fact.
I'm going to go in and arrest him.
We just know what longboarding is.
And because we only have, you know, Mark Stoops, a little three, four guy, that's our,
that's our whole defensive line.
So everyone just remember, Big Dion, Big Country, and Chunky are our starters.
I'm not calling a grown man Chunky.
Whether he likes it or not, I need to know him before I know that I do that.
Who's up first?
Andy.
Andy, you got a minute.
Go ahead.
Okay, I had two questions.
I'll just go with one.
If Kentucky football this year finishes with any other record other than seven and five or eight and four,
there's going to be a negative or positive reaction either way.
What chances do you think Mark Stoops is here next year?
I don't think the record, whether Mark Stoops is here next year or not,
I don't think the record will have anything to do with it.
I mean, they would not let him go.
I don't care if he won four games.
So if he were to decide to coach here or not, it will be on his own decision.
Whether or not I think he's going to be here, I think he will, but it wouldn't shot me if he's not.
But I don't think his record will be what will determine it or not.
Now, the fan base's opinion will change based on it, but he will be here, I think, if he wants to be no matter what.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
KS.

We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.

You ladies know what I mean.
I'll bet you a perimenapausal chin here you do.
So let's talk about it.
Join me on my new podcast.
How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS.
All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own.
I was like, what the hell is that?
I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that Ness was going to be.
Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45. How hard can it be?
How hard can it be? Getting naked at 50 with the new guy.
That one's kind of hard.
Well, that's lighting.
They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be?

Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio.
It is really amazing, Ryan, that it was only, what, two years ago that, like,
you couldn't have alcohol in the UK sporting event.
And now two years later, not only can you have it, we have a UK NIL beer.
Like, like, the change.
And you know Mitch Barnhart had to, like, kind of.
You know he doesn't love it, but it just shows how the landscape has changed so quickly.
Times are changing, and you're right, he was the one reason he was not, you know, in favor of having alcohol at U.K.
athletic events.
And I think it took a while, obviously took a while for him to change his mind about it.
It is crazy.
I mean, you can now buy beer to pay players.
I mean, if we had said this just a few years ago, you've been like, what?
Absolutely not.
Yeah, now Mitch Martin Art's going to be like, look, I'm going to need you to go on draft kings.
beer to pay our players so that we can keep going with amateurism. Is that possible? Can we go ahead
and do that? It's, it is Drew amazing in such a little time how the fundamental idea of what
college sports was. And in my opinion, it was antiquated and needed to change. But the fundamental
idea of what it was has changed completely overnight. It's crazy. Oh, if you went into a coma a year
and a half ago and just woke up. You wouldn't believe
the landscape of college sports. We've added
gambling, drinking, and NIL all in
two years span. It's a party.
It is a, you know what?
We were saying it was a party with Waka
Flaka, and now it actually is
a party. One person writes, my wife
and I are listening, and we already have a bet
on what Ryan's interesting fact about
Dane Key is. I hope he
pays off for it. Yeah, that's
the one he should have the easiest job with, Shannon,
right? You would think so.
I want him to say that one for last, if he don't
mind.
Yeah, let's say that for last.
Okay.
We'll see if, because he might be over 10 going into that one.
Before we get back to them, actually, they announced the exhibition games.
Drew, I don't know if they did it on purpose, but they have my daily show radio host
alma mater and my ESPN show host alma mater.
Kentucky Wesleyan were playing in an exhibition game.
And then Minnesota, University of Minnesota at what, Macanaca or something, what's
What's the thing? Mancato?
Mancato.
That's where Myron went to school.
And I texted Myron, excited and goes, is this where you went to school?
And he was like, dude, I broke it on your show two months ago.
And I didn't realize that that he did that, Shannon.
Is that right?
He broke it on this show?
He did.
He was the first person that we heard it from.
So he has already talked to the coach.
And we, Ryan, are hosting Minnesota Mancoba's pre-game meal at KS Bar.
And now you have to make Kentucky Wesley and do the.
same thing. I'm in it. Yeah, let's do it. I think it's awesome. You have to make that happen.
Okay, I'm on it. I'll work on that right after I finish my fun facts about the offensive
players. But let me say something about these two teams. Two years ago, Kentucky Wesley and beat
Louisville. But this Minnesota, yeah, this Minnesota at Manitoba, Drew, they won the national
championship in D2 last year and returned a lot of their players. So we're going to, like,
that's going to be a real game. Like, you can't, you can't fool around with that if you're playing a
national champion, Drew.
Yeah, it's a great addition.
When Myron announced it, we did the Wadi Nah and the whole thing, and no one really ran with it when he reported it on these airwaves.
And now it came out this weekend.
Everybody's acting like it's something new.
But I love the addition.
Cal did well against some of the local Kentucky teams.
This isn't really that.
I guess Wesleyan is.
But I love the KSR connection.
And we've got to get Ryan Lemon shirtless behind the bench.
I don't know if Myron will go shirtless in that game.
But I think we start with Ryan when Wesleyan comes to town.
Well, Myron's going to come to town and go to the game, he told me.
Awesome.
Awesome.
And Ryan, obviously.
So that is very cool.
So I guess next, Shannon, we have to play Bellarmine, but we've done that.
Yeah.
Drew went to UK.
We've played trancy, so they've kind of hit all the KSR schools.
What about Lindsey Wilson?
I went there for one year.
We play Western.
Play Western this year.
That's Billy's, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, like, we're kind of, we kind of all been.
Played trancy that a couple times, year after year after year.
We play Duke.
Yeah, all right, Ryan, shut up.
Duke's not myelma mater.
I mean, kind of.
Ryan, what's your fourth attempt at an interesting fact?
Well, we move now to Right Guard.
And when you ask the question, start with,
could people answer all the starters?
This is probably one position.
Most people do not know who the starter is,
because really they've had quite a battle mat
between Dylan Ray and Jalen Farmer.
Dylan Ray started like 10 games last year,
but Jalen Farmer transferred from Florida.
I'm going to give the nod to him.
I think he's going to be the starter.
So you're calling Jalen Farmer as the starter over Dylan Ray.
Correct.
I'm calling it.
And you know how Logan Steinberg was always his reputation was he was mean and nasty?
That's Jalen Farmer.
It's Logan Stenberg.
Stenberg.
Yeah.
So his reputation is what?
Mean.
He's mean and nasty.
Usually there's always one offensive lineman.
It's like nasty mean.
That's Jalen Farmer.
He's the guy.
So your interesting fact is he's mean.
Uh-huh.
And he won the job.
I mean, are all Lyman-D mean?
Like, are there any linemen that come up and shake your hand,
nice to meet you, good sir?
Like, I don't think there's any like nice lineman.
So, not interesting enough for me.
Another one.
No.
All right.
Oh, for four.
By rule in this exercise, they're all starters.
So that's not really a fact.
We're naming the starters.
Again, I would argue also, Shannon, an opinion?
Yeah.
I mean, some people, his mother probably thinks.
because he's really nice.
All right.
0 for 4.
You're going to get one though, Ryan.
I'm feeling good about it.
Dane's the last one.
If I can't get Dane, it's going to be a bad day.
All right.
So, Drew, what about you?
What's your fact?
I'm going to move to the linebackers,
a very veteran group.
We know a lot of them,
but they added Jaman Pop Dumas Johnson,
pop being a nickname,
a back-to-back national champion.
He was a first-team All-American
and a Buckus Award candidate
before he got hurt at Georgia.
He's going to be awesome.
But the coolest fact about him
is in high school. He was on a hard-knock-type documentary on HBO that followed him in his high school
around Baltimore, St. Francis Academy. So before we even got to Georgia, he was featured on HBO.
Wow, that is. That's great. So I wonder if you could watch that now, I would assume, right?
It's on HBO. Cost of winning. I've actually seen that preview. I've never watched it, but I saw that
on the list. All right, Shannon, interesting fact. I'm going to say it's interesting. I feel like it is.
Yeah. He's on HBO. Yeah. That's it.
Missed four games with a broken forearm.
That's how he ended up in Kentucky.
He kind of got passed over even though he was really good at Georgia.
So, do we think there's any reason?
So you're right.
He broke his forearm.
Do we think there's any reason a guy who broke his forearm?
So it's not like he tore a ligament in his legament in his legion or anything.
Why don't people expect him to be just as good as he was?
And when he was, he was an All-American candidate.
Why are we not talking about this guy like he can be a stud?
Wasn't just that he was a candidate in 2022.
He was a first-team All-American and was in the conversation.
for the Buccas Award.
Then last season, he was a preseason first team All-American.
His junior year, then that injury happened.
So I'm with you.
I am fired up about this guy.
I mean, it's a forearm.
He's got two of them.
I'm sure it healed back fine.
He's been looking good over there.
I think it's one of the, we'll see how it pans out,
but could be one of the best portal gets stoopes ever had.
So far, I mean, this portal will.
You know, as long as, Shannon, when you break your arm, they put a cast on,
you know, it gets little.
Yeah.
Right.
Like it, like it shrinks.
As long as he's gotten back to normal size,
I feel like this dude, I just feel like we've completely overlooked this guy.
If you told me we were going to get Ryan a former All-American and bring him in to start on defense
and he played at Georgia when they won the national championship, I feel like I'm just kind of shocked
that none of us, myself included, have kind of given this guy his pop.
Yeah.
The football people, like even the people we had on this summer, that's the first person they talk about.
You know, we all talk about Brock Vandergril transferring from Georgia.
they talk about Pop Johnson transferring from Georgia.
They know how good of a player he is.
And he wasn't just on their roster.
That year he was healthy.
He started all 15 games and was second on the team in tackles.
He wasn't just out there.
He was making the place.
Making this place.
Who's up next?
James.
James.
How are you, James?
Good morning.
And do well, sir.
Hey, I've got you all.
I want y'all's opinion.
If I'm trying to look at going to my first UK football game,
Oxford game, the Ole Miss game this year,
your opinion on how good that would be.
So have you never been to a UK football game at all or just never game on the road?
Never been. I've never been to one period, been to a lot of the basketball games that
were up and down here in Missouri, but never been to a.
So my suggestion would be if I were looking at the UK football schedule and I were saying
never been to a game, I want to go to one.
If I were going to rank them, first of all, if you've never been to a game, I think you
should try to go to one in Lexington.
Do you have any objection to going to one in Lexington?
No, it's, Ole Miss is a lot closer than Lexington is.
I see, Ole Miss a lot of.
Well, first of all, Ole Miss is a good one to go to.
It's cool.
The tailgating's cool.
The atmosphere in the stadium is not great, but it's fine.
And the scene outside the stadium is maybe the best in the SEC.
So I would say, if you're going to go to one, that one makes sense.
But if I were ranking all the games, I appreciate the call, Drew, and I were saying,
where would I want to go?
for me the game I'd want to go to the most is that week two south carolina game because i think
it's the game of the season for us in some ways it's going to be the first real game in that
stadium it's a 3 30 start right middle of the day the pregame atmosphere and then if we win
the post game atmosphere to me it sets up to be the best environment that we will have do you agree
with that i do just because uh everything you just said the importance of that game it's not
night game, but it might be dark enough that you'll get to see the new lights and everything
they've put in. I'm sure they'll work it in as best they can, even though it's a 3.30 game.
And, I mean, hopefully they win that one, but if they were to lose that one, some of the games
you're excited about on down the road might lose some of their luster a little bit.
Like, normally I might say Georgia, but if they lose that South Carolina game, that Georgia's
game is not going to be as exciting. I think going to Texas would be interesting.
If you've never been to Knoxville, that's a great stadium. I think the Auburn game will be
great in Lexington, but if I were going to, if I had to pick today, I would pick the South Carolina
game just because we know that that game will matter a lot. A new report from the Kentucky

They felt like when, or the one where they called him chunky.
They felt like that should have been a good fact.
Well, no, I think that was Drew's fact.
That was Drew.
That's what I did say it was a good fact.
That's why.
All right.
Well, that's why Ryan didn't get credit for it.
Okay.
Fair enough.
That makes sense.
Hey, a lot of you wrote me this weekend correctly that the ads were out of control on the podcast Friday.
They were like, she had in like nine or ten minutes long.
Oh.
We've complained.
They're supposed to be, just so people know, they're supposed to be like two minutes on podcast, maybe a minute and a half.
They, for whatever reason, I think.
they inserted the actual ads that run during the show and the podcast ads, which is why they
got kind of out of control this week. There may be a day or two more where it's a little screwy,
but I do think by middle of the week, it should be back to normal. So I apologize about that.
That is annoying that it just keeps, they keep running in there like, you know, this and this and
that's why I get it. We will get it fixed. And thank you all for caring enough to write and to
try to ask but just so you know we're we're doing our best to to fix it it's it's a little bit out of
our control the national people now handle our stuff and that makes it a little more complicated one
person writes matt on the last episode of fade this was that ambient mat i haven't heard you like
that in years i thought it was an a plus effort drew i think people like the new fade this
this although they're acting like i was somehow different in it and i felt like i was the same
uh you were your normal fade this self but as fade this listeners
know we get a little wacky.
Sometimes we don't talk sports at all, but got a lot of great feedback from that first
episode.
I'm glad people tuned in and enjoyed it.
And had a lot of you subscribe.
So thank you for that.
It is, I will say, it is a little bit different than what I do on here.
It's a lot more, yeah, it's a lot more like it was kind of back in the day because I feel
like if you're listening to Fade this, you're actually like a real fan of ours and not just
a hater fan like some people are.
And so I think Drew and I both are maybe a little more kind of our natural selves.
Ryan Donahue died this morning.
Phil Donahue, 88 years old, probably the first modern daytime talk show host for people like pre- Oprah.
Like Donahue was before Oprah.
Donahue was when I was a kid, when you thought about morning talk shows, you thought about
Donahue.
Like he was what it was.
He also, you know, would be both serious.
He would be goofy.
and he was kind of like the whole, you know, Oprah, Ellen, Kelly Clarks, and that whole thing, Donahue, Ryan, was the one that started.
He was the godfather of it.
You're right.
And his show was unbelievably popular.
And you weren't, you weren't anybody if you didn't show up on that show.
Like, if you were a singer, an author, an actor.
Presidents?
I mean, presidents would go on there.
He was, it was like the Tonight Show, but during the day and much more accessible to people back then.
And I've told the story.
I actually got to ask a question on the Donahue show one time,
sent in the audience and ask a question.
So, really?
Yeah.
Yeah.
You've told that before.
You asked a question on Donahue.
You don't have the video, right?
I do.
I've got it on VHS tape in a box somewhere at my house.
I'd have to dig it up.
I'd like to see that.
Wouldn't you, Shannon, like to see Ryan Liven asking a question on Donahue?
Was your question more interesting than your football facts?
Ralph Nader was the guest.
He's like you.
He didn't think my question was that interesting either.
Wait a minute.
I didn't know that.
You asked a question to Ralph Nader?
Yes.
Yeah.
What was your question?
They were talking about harmful things to your body.
And I said something about, well, should hospitals always do an x-ray on you?
You know, is that also as harmful to your body?
And Ralph Nader's- So you were like a conspiracy theory, Shannon, before everybody said.
Wow.
I'd love to see those.
Did you also ask if mass were effective?
And like, like, this was like, 1986, I think.
So this is wild back.
Wow.
Well, I want to see that.
You got to find that video.
All right, what's your next interesting fact?
Well, I think I'm going to finally win Shannon over with this one.
Okay, let's see it.
We go to left tackle.
Marcus Cox.
I don't know how, but this is his seventh season of college football.
I do know how.
He had a redshirt year.
He had a COVID year, and he had an injury year.
It's magical.
I don't know if Kentucky has ever, ever had a starter who was in his seventh season.
I think this would be probably the first guy to be the seventh season starter.
But here's why I think Shannon will like him.
He in high school.
he was also a big time wrestler and made it to the state finals in wrestling as a wrestler.
That's my Marcus Scott.
That's my- All right.
Shannon, interesting fact or no?
I think you should have stopped at seven years.
I mean, I think that's more interesting than the fact that he was a wrestler.
I'm going to go half a point.
Half a point.
Half a point.
Yeah.
It's better.
Yeah.
I actually think that's interesting.
I will go so far as to say, Drew, I'm going to say with confidence, this is the first time we've
ever had a seventh year play.
I can't think of what the circumstance, because it used to be you.
couldn't have more than six years.
And this is the first time that's ever been allowed.
So I think it's very likely he's the first seventh year player and probably will be the
only seventh year player we ever have because the COVID rule, this is the last group of
people that get to use it.
Yeah, I can think of a lot of six year guys.
Brendan Bates with your bears, he was here six years.
Weaver about to do a six year, but I can't remember a seventh.
I don't think we've had a seven.
So I think this will be the only seventh year player in Kentucky.
history certainly for the near future because I don't think anybody else will even be eligible
to do it except him. He's a very unique situation having redshirted, having had a transfer year,
and then having had the COVID year, yeah, that's it. I actually think that is an interesting fact.
All right. What do you got, Drew? All right, I'm going to have some pronunciation issues with this
one, which I should bring up. I was corrected. Dumas Johnson does not want to go by pop.
We're not calling him pop. And I said, Jamin, it's Jemot. So let's
clear that up on Duma's Johnson. So he doesn't want to go by pop. I showed a little too much of my
Kentucky twang and pronouncing his first name, which is why this next one's going to be a struggle.
Stick with me. I'm going next to Alex Affari, who's played a lot of football in his first two years
of UK, but he has moved to inside linebacker to help get him on the field more often.
And for his fun facts, here we go. He was born in, I think it's purden noun, Italy? Is that a place, Matt?
You were just there? P-O-R-D-E-N-O-N-O-N-E.
Perth. Did you go there?
Ordin. Portan. Portan. I don't know. I've never heard of that place.
But he was born in Italy.
Yep. And stick with me. It's, I'm still trying here.
He is fluent in T-W-I-T-T-W-I-T-T-E.
It's a dialect of the A-K-N-Longuage in southern and central Ghana.
So he speaks-twee.
He speaks fluently.
Yes. Part of the, someone that knows this probably thinks I'm way off Ak-A-N,
A-K-A-N language?
Anybody speak that?
No, I don't know a lot about it.
So he's born in Italy.
He's born in Italy, but he speaks a Ghanaian language.
Yes.
And as I said, he's played all, started all 12 games last year as that hybrid safety
nickel, but they're going to get him more looks at linebacker this year.
Interesting, Shannon?
Interesting, very interesting.
All right, there you go.
Drew's five for five.
Ryan's a half for five.
Yeah, I'm on the board.
It's been good.
We will give you more facts.
