We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV,

That is the point of the show.
I'm just going to remind you.

Welcome back, hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, here live at the state fair.
But man, that jersey, rocking that jersey.
Where'd you get that?
Second hand store.
Well, that is quite, I've never seen that one before.
It's very rare.
I see UK gear that's new.
That's a new one for me.
859-280-2287.
Text machine is 772-7-4-5-254.
Let's go over some stuff.
Here, you might turn that down just a little bit.
First of all, remember the story yesterday about the guys, the guy on the yacht?
Yes, yeah.
Well, they found their bodies.
They did.
So, unfortunately, rest of it.
in peace to all those folks, but they found the body, so they passed away.
It's becoming like a worldwide story with the fact that both of those people died.
I said the same day, it was one day in between each other.
They died one day in between each other, but they were both defendants.
I mean, the more I read about it, I kind of went down the rabbit hole yesterday.
Yeah, there you go.
The more I read about it, you know, they were at a party, like the yacht party was celebrating the acquittal.
the guy that died in the car crash was driving to a party to celebrate his acquittal.
So, like, they were literally going to kind of party about not getting convicted,
and then they both end up passing away.
I'm not sure.
You don't hear very many stories weirder than that.
That will be a Netflix documentary one day.
There's no doubt.
Yeah, I would believe the conspiracy a little more,
but I just don't know how you can manufacture one of those.
A water spout.
You know, if it was something, you know, something.
on land. Maybe I'd believe that there was something behind it, but I just don't know how you would pull a
super yacht down intentionally if that was really the case. I'm not believing a conspiracy. I just think
it's a crazy story. Like it's one of the craziest things I've ever heard. Yeah, I mean, within the
same day, all of that happening, it's one thing for a guy to get run over. It would be another thing for
somebody to secretly punch a hole in the bottom of the boat and have it sunk that way,
but for a water spout to come out of nowhere and only sink that boat.
Yeah. There were other boats around and they only hit that one.
Like that's the thing that's so insane.
Makes no sense at all.
Makes no sense.
I read one thing where like it was like less than 1% chance these guys were going to be acquitted,
and yet they were acquitted.
So I think that added to the conspiracy.
As a general rule, this has always been my belief.
If the feds come after you, you're cooked.
And like you're cooked.
I mean, they have like a 98% conviction rate, the feds.
And they were both acquitted.
You're exactly right.
Like when the feds come out,
after you don't get acquitted.
And yet, they did.
They still got cooked, just in a different way.
Rust and peace.
Water spout.
Yeah.
R.P.
He said rest and peace.
I like the fact that you threw rest and peace in at the end, I think makes it okay, Shannon.
I think that makes it all.
Not making light of it at all.
Yes.
All right.
So the high school, the high school season starts tomorrow.
Yes.
You are our official high school football guy.
Your kid, Josiah.
in his senior year.
Senior year.
So let's quickly go through.
You tell us, because you know better than us,
who is winning each class?
Oh.
1A.
I don't even know if some of the schools are in 1A anymore.
Pikeville would be my choice, but...
They're in 1A.
Yeah, the Pikeville, they're always good.
I go Pikeville.
Do you not know who's in what division?
Some of the schools have changed, like they did some redistricting.
Lexing Christians in 2A?
Yeah.
What's Boyle County?
They're 4A.
4A, so they'll probably win theirs.
Speaking of Lexington Christian, I called Max yesterday,
and he was watching a video on the rules of high school football.
He has taken this coaching seriously.
I mean, like, okay, so they play Boyle County.
Yeah.
My house has been Boyle County.
I know Boyle County's offense at this point.
Like, he what?
I give him credit for a dude that's doing special teams.
He watches a lot of film.
He has breakdowns.
Like they play.
I think they play this year.
They play Boyle County, Bowling Green, like Raceland.
They play Shawnee.
They play all these schools, and my man has like breakdowns of each other.
You got to.
You think that schedule is hard.
Let me just tell you about Frederick Douglass's schedule.
Oh, well, of course.
Let's talk about Cheaping Frederick Douglass.
Number one, Boyle County.
All right, easy.
Number two, Trinity.
You got that.
Then they're number three.
They play number four, Bowling Green.
Got it.
They scrimmage number five, St. X.
No problem.
And they also play number eight, Corbin.
So six of their eight, six or eleven.
But I mean, you all literally take players from the entire state.
I mean, you guys literally, like you've literally stolen four players from each of those schools.
It feels like you should be able to play them and beat them.
I think maybe some of the schools you've mentioned do the exact same thing.
You like to throw stones when you don't.
They play all these teams to scout their rosters.
All right, so Jasper Johnson, August 28th, making his decision.
That's on my birthday.
tomorrow we're having the KSR golf scramble,
so I don't know if we'll get to it.
Make your prediction right now.
Originally, it was thought he was going to Bama.
Then it was Bama and North Carolina.
Then it was Bama and Kentucky.
And now people seem to suggest Kentucky in North Carolina.
I'm still sticking with Kentucky.
I'll go first unless I hear otherwise,
I think he's going to come to Kentucky,
and I think when he comes here,
I'm going to have a really good story of how it happened one day
that maybe we'll talk about on the air.
What do you got, Shea?
I'm going to say Kentucky as well.
He got Moreno.
You know, that's a good start.
If he gets Jasper Johnson, two for two,
I think fan base is going to be really happy if that can happen tomorrow.
Probably a week ago, I wouldn't have said Kentucky.
This week I've changed.
I think a lot of it had to do with Malachi Marino.
They moved his commitment up before Jasper's.
I think that has played a role in Jasper kind of flipping,
so I'm picking UK also.
Okay.
I'll make it four.
And really what convinced me yesterday was,
when our caller syndicate called in.
Yeah.
I just felt like he knew something,
and he was sounded excited about the news he had just known,
and we know he's very connected in Herdsburg.
Very.
Just his tone yesterday had me feel like it's already done,
and he kind of seemed giddy about whatever it's going to be.
So syndicate actually convinced me that it's going to be Kentucky.
Even though he didn't say that, I just felt that through the phone line.
I think if he comes to Kentucky, one of the things you should know,
you know that there's a person I think is probably,
the best recruiter in the history of this school.
He doesn't just recruit one sport.
He actually can recruit multiple sports.
And I think you might go back and look and say
Mark Pope should take him to dinner.
Maybe at some point if that ends up happening.
I'll just leave it at that.
Who's up next?
Who's up next?
Got a few lines open right now.
Okay, well, do we have anyone on?
Not yet.
Okay
Well, you don't have to say we have a few lines open
Just say that we don't
We don't everybody
It's okay, 859, 280, 2287
You two don't know who we are, right?
That's okay
I mean, I can tell by the look
Look at his shirt
There's a look
First of all, that's a great affliction t-shirt
I haven't seen an affliction t-shirt in a long time
And I do, but I do like
I like when people look at us and have that look, Drew,
like I have no idea who these people are
Why are they up here talking?
Well, most people probably start the morning.
They see the cattle, and they see the pigs, and they see us,
and we're just the next one in line down all the exhibits here today.
I understand the confusion.
Yes, I do as well.
All right, so back to the basketball for a second.
Mark Pope is scheduled.
If you look at our schedule as it comes up, we talked about they have five big games, right, in the non-conference.
They've got Duke, they've got Ohio State, they've got Louisville, they've got Gonzaga, and at Clemson.
Shannon, what's our record going to be in those five games for Kentucky this year?
I'm going to say three and two.
I think Ohio State's a win.
I think Clemson's a win.
And I think they get Gonzaga this year.
So I'm going to say they go three and two.
I'm going to go two and three.
I think the Duke game will be tough because it's first.
I think the game at Clemson may be the toughest one of all of them.
And then the game at Gonzaga, I think it'll be tough just because it's out there.
So you're going two and three?
Yeah.
So the only games we win are Ohio State and Louisville.
That's not a lot of confidence.
Well, we're going to pull one of those.
Well, hopefully, yeah, I forgot about Louisville.
So I'm going to say that they get Louisville too.
I'm going to go four and one.
Four and one.
So you think the only loss is Duke.
Duke, okay?
What about you?
So we got four and one, two and three.
Yeah.
What do you got?
I'm going three and two.
They beat Duke.
They beat Louisville.
They beat Ohio State.
I think, as I said yesterday, Clemson,
that's going to be a very tough atmosphere,
and they're a good team this year.
after an elite eight season.
And then going out to Seattle,
I'll give Gonzaga the slight edge there for three and two.
I actually am with you.
I think it's three and two.
I think we beat Duke in that first game.
I think, you know,
you got to remember the Champions Classic at times has been hard for us
because we're so young.
They're that young this year.
You know, they're the young team.
We're going to have a group of seniors, right?
Seniors and juniors.
I actually think we beat Duke.
I don't think people are realizing how hard that Clemson game is going to be.
I know.
That's probably going to be one of,
That'll be one of the best atmospheres we'll get all year probably because they don't.
Imagine you go to Clemson.
Kentucky never comes to town, right?
Like, is Kentucky ever played at Clemson?
If they did, it was 60 years ago or 70 years ago.
So you never get a situation where Kentucky's coming into your building.
It's going to be wild.
Now, remember the Gonzaga game is in Seattle, so it's not on their home floor,
so it's on a neutral court.
I still think that'll be hard.
and then I think they beat Ohio State and Louisville.
Seattle's, I think, four days after Clemson, that's a quick turnaround.
That's another thing.
So think about our travel schedule.
We're going from Kentucky to Clemson, then all the way to Seattle to play four days later.
I think that also, I think there's a good chance, Shannon, we lose to Clemson and Gonzaga back to back,
but then we win those other games.
Gonzaga's had our number, but this is a completely different team,
so I think you've got to throw out what happened the last couple of years in that series.
And if you didn't hear, by the way, the Kentucky game,
against Ohio State is at 5.30 on the 21st.
So it is the late game on the 21st in New York City, which means Christmas, Shannon, in New York.
Tickets go on sell today at noon for that game.
So if you're planning on going up there, today at noon, is when you want to get those tickets.
So I didn't run.
So they go on today at noon.
Yes.
So I don't expect that to be a tough ticket, being so close to Christmas.
And outside of last year, the UK-UNC game, which was crazy, the CBS Classic hasn't really been well-attended.
and a lot of times that first game clears out.
By the way, I think this will be the last one.
I think there's a decent chance Kentucky gets out of the, without Cal.
They get out of the CBS Classic.
This is my prediction for the schedule to come.
I think they get out of the CBS Classic either this year or next year,
and then they play home and home against Indiana,
and they're going to probably pick one other team for home and home.
I think you're going to see the Kentucky basketball schedule
change back to what you guys are used to.
I think they'll play in the Champions Classic,
year. I think they'll play, but then, and I actually think between me and you, I think they're
going to get out of the Gonzaga series. I would suspect that there'll be one more Gonzaga game after
the, you know, it's a six game series. Yeah. We've played two, but we're technically supposed to
play the next four years. I think we'll play Gonzaga this year. We'll play them in Nashville
next year, and then I think we get out of that. And then I think it will be Louisville every year,
Indiana every year
Champions Classic every year
ACC Challenge every year and then they'll pick
one other team that they'll play
two year home and home and switch it
overtime. So I think there'll be five good games every year
four of which are set or three of which are set
one of which is an ACC team Ryan and then they'll go and they'll say okay
let's play Yukon for two games
let's play Villanova for two games
I think that's going to be our schedule. No more CBS Classic
and I think the Gonzaga
series ends early.
Do you think they can throw Maui in at some point?
No, I was going to say that.
Please get us to Maui.
This is unfortunate, but I think what has happened is because of the need for revenue,
the thing you have to remember is if you go to Maui, you share a pot of revenue
with seven other schools.
If you play that, that's a tournament.
So it's boring, but you're technically only allowed to play 29 games.
But you get two free games if you play in a tournament.
right the Maui invitational as a tournament etc what Kentucky does is they just schedule a tournament
call it the bill kiteley classic or whatever and they get all three games at home and they get all the
revenue so I mean to go to Maui probably cost them three or four million dollars and drew I just
don't think they're going to do it I think we're going to end up and I don't like it I'm against this
but I think we're going to end up playing against three stinky teams forever and I don't know that we'll
play at least as long as the current administration is in place. I'm not sure we're going to play in a
tournament again. Yeah, we have that classic. We changed the name every year. I think it was the Kentucky
Classic last year. It's nice to have the local teams they mix in occasionally, but I really want
a Maui trip. I wish you could pull it off. And I also think the Maui Invitational might be gone soon.
Because I think what you're, there's not enough talk about what's happening in Vegas this year with
that NIL classic. Their teams are going to play in these tournaments where the winning team gets
money. That is going to happen. They're having one this year, but none of the good teams
signed up for it. Wait till next year. Next year, the best programs, Duke, Kansas, they're going
play in a tournament where the winning team gets like $3 million split amongst the team. That is
going to happen. And I wonder, Ryan, if there'll be pressure on Kentucky to ultimately get in one of
those, even though it costs the school money. You answer my question. I was going to ask you, well, instead of
going to Maui, would they look to play in something like that, a tournament like that, if that's
the future? I think the Maui Invitational is in trouble. Because
Now that there's, unless they start paying prize money to the players,
I think schools are going to choose to play.
I mean, even the field this year is not as good as it usually is.
Like you're going to see the teams starting to go to those events.
All right, I'll go to Vegas.
That sounds fun.
Let's get in that one.
You know, there's a lot of players, though, pressuring their coach.
Hey, coach, let's go play with this, you know.
If I'm Kansas, if I'm Kansas and I'm coming and recruiting Mario, and I say,
Mario, we'll give you a million dollars.
Kentucky will give you a million dollars.
But we play in a tournament in December, and if we win, you get $500.
thousand dollars sign me up
there's going to be a lot of people yeah and there'll be a lot of players that will
you want games in december that matter those are going to be games those players take
very seriously yes if they can get that kind of money i if that's the future i see
kentucky wanting to do that as a recruiting pitch like you just said well hey college
football is back starts saturday so go to draft kings they got a great slate of games
ireland is playing there well not ireland is not playing the game is in ireland i would like

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live.
Kentucky State Fair.
Ryan, I messed up and I feel bad.
This happened during the break and did the reaction you did.
I just got a text message.
I need to give you the context.
I was, as I was walking from the cows to hear this morning,
I was on the phone because I was doing the,
the Alyssa Lang and Chris Dorey, SEC show.
So I was on it, and I was talking, and I was trying to walk,
and, you know, a couple people said go cats, et cetera.
And a guy came up to me.
He was in a suit, and he had a U of L pin,
and he was trying to talk to me, Shannon.
And, I mean, I wasn't trying to ignore him,
but I was doing an interview.
Sure.
And he just kept trying to talk to me,
and I finally had to go, hey, man, I'm on the radio.
And I walked off.
I didn't realize that was the U of L.D.
Josh Hurd.
I didn't know what he looked like.
But, I mean, what could you have done in that moment anyway?
Well, apparently now it is floating around the Internet that I big-time the Louisville AD.
Because I guess people saw it.
Let me just say to Josh Hurd, I didn't know that was you.
I mean, I couldn't have talked anyway, but I do apologize.
I don't want, I mean, I, with as bad a relationship as I had with,
with the last one.
I don't want to have a bad,
or the one, two ago, Tom George.
I don't want to have a bad with him.
So I apologize about that, Ryan.
But I did.
I kind of like, I did,
I could see why people would have thought that
because I was on, you know, I feel bad.
Well, let me ask you, like,
who would it have been that could have gotten you
to stop doing the interview on the phone
that you ran into out here?
You know what I'm saying?
That's a big show, too.
You're not some small local radio show you called in.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I mean, I guess your mom.
I think even my mom,
I would have gone, just give me just a second.
Mr. McConnell?
Oh, I'd walk the other way.
I don't know.
I mean, even if it was like the governor or the president.
Yeah.
No, you put them on the air with you.
That's what you would do then.
Oh, yeah, just go here.
Do you want to come on here?
Yeah.
Well, anyway, I apologize to Josh Hurd.
I didn't do that intentionally, but.
And in your defense, you've said good things about him in the past.
Well, I don't really know him.
But I think what's worse is he knew I didn't know who he was.
Do you know what he looks like?
No.
He might be Josh Hurd right here.
Josh Hurd?
The Affliction shirt.
I don't think so.
Like, I just didn't know what he looked like.
Now I do, but I didn't know then.
Did you know what he looked like?
He walked in, probably not.
I had no close enough.
Yeah, well, I apologize to Josh Hurd.
Who's up next?
Matt is up next.
Matt, go ahead, Matt.
Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call.
Looking in the future for the UK basketball team,
I wanted to get you guys the thoughts on what the chances are we had an awful
Kentucky starting five with maybe Jennifer Johnson, Trent, Noah,
Travis Perry, maybe E.J. Walker and Malachi Moreno.
I'll hang up. Thank you.
No, that won't happen.
That won't be the starting lineup.
But I do think, you know, if Travis Perry and Trent Noah come back,
which I think is a very good chance, both would.
There could be four Kentucky players on the roster at the same time,
which would be a very rare sight.
Ryan and Kentucky back.
I mean, when's the last time?
You got to go back to what, 92 to have four Kentucky guys on the roster?
That one tubby team had Ravi Moss, Patrick Sparks,
Brandon Stockton, Josh Carrier.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So that was four.
So that would be the last time, right?
Yeah.
You know, we don't talk about there's a kid up at Newport who may be the best
one of all, Tailing Kenny.
He's just going to be a junior this year.
He may be the best player.
He visited UK yesterday.
Yeah.
He may be the best player in the state, all classes.
He's going to play with him.
with Jasper at overtime. That's what I was going to say.
He's playing with Jasper Johnson this year, and he is, he's, he may be better,
he may be end up higher ranked than any player we've had from Kentucky in a long time.
You know, I don't know, I don't know what's going to happen.
People always ask me about Travis Perry and Trent Noah.
I think, I think Travis Perry will definitely play.
I'm not sure if Trent Noah will play this year a lot.
I think it remains to be seen.
I do think Travis Perry will get some minutes this year.
Yeah, with the way Pope, his system works,
even if Perry is not out there doing much,
his defender cannot leave him.
I mean, that guy is the lights out shooter.
It's crazy to say it could be the best of all time.
But the numbers, he's just putting up in their summer drills.
They're unbelievable.
Even Kobe Brea, who led the country last year,
admitted I'm not sure I'm the best shooter on this team.
And I think moving forward with recruiting,
you know, Kyle liked to go out and he'd say,
give me as many of the top 15 players as I can get.
Pope's only going to take three or four freshmen,
and he's going to prioritize guys that are already on his team keeping them.
So I think you're going to see a lot more of retaining players like a Travis Perry and Trent.
By the way, I don't know if you saw the picture speaking of the 92 team.
Mark Pope took a picture with the 92, all those guys from Kentucky yesterday,
and he posted it.
There's a great picture of Pope with farmer, Feldhouse, Woods, and Pelfrey that was very neat to see last night.
Mark Pope appreciates the history of this as much as anybody we've ever had.
Yeah, I was going to say, if we ever had a coach that could play to what the fan base is more like than Mark Pope.
I think that's exactly right. Who's next?
Ryan is up next.
Ryan, go ahead, Ryan.
How are you doing, Matt?
I haven't called in in a while, but I just want to say that you've got the most entertaining show.
All you guys do a good job.
And I did meet.
I was out there Saturday at the Par.
And I did meet Heather French Henry.
He was very friendly.
She did talk to me about my hair.
because I have to cut my hair in about four years.
It's really long now.
I can't imagine.
The other thing is that I heard a lot of people talk about cow calling the hogs.
I used to go out in the country.
My parents from the country.
Dad moved to low when I was a kid, got a job, GE.
I can't call the hogs.
I did it when I was a kid.
Do you want to hear it right now?
Yeah, give me.
We got 15 seconds.
Call the hogs for you.
Okay.
Shooey, shooey, shooey.
Peep, pig, pig, pig.
Thanks for take my call.
That's very good, Ryan.
Was it?
Yeah.
Pig, suey, piggy, piggy, piggy.
Is that really?
That just sounds like words.
Why not?
Okay.
All right.
Well, there you go.
We'll take a break.
Be right back here at KSR.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back, Tegi Sports Radio, here live.
Big shout out to all the people here,
because you guys have stood the entire show, most of you.
And that is not easy to do, and we've had a big crowd throughout.
So thank you guys.
very much for doing that.
That's awesome.
One person writes,
Matt, I want to go to the State Fair tomorrow.
I'm going.
What are the top five things to do?
That's a Shannon the dude question.
He's Mr. State Fair.
What would you say are the top five things to do at the State Fair?
Well, you miss one of them by not being here today and seeing us.
Okay.
You got to get yourself a donut burger.
Yes.
You like that.
All right.
Those are not good for you.
Well, you can also get a pork chop sandwich from the Kentucky pork producers,
which we always do.
Yeah, okay.
Ride some rides.
Get your flu shot first, though.
Get your flu shot here.
And they get free rides.
Yep.
Go check out whatever free show is tomorrow.
Maybe the Oak Ridge Boys, maybe the turtles.
I'm not sure who's playing tomorrow for the free show.
Get the dogs and the break dancing.
And then lastly, I would say, just walk around the Expo Center and get a bunch of free stuff like Billy and his fiancee have done.
Yeah, Billy is Mr. Free Stuff.
You got just a bag of free stuff over there.
Got a back scratcher in that bag.
I heard they've made more than one trip to get their swag bags, too.
By the way, today if you're bored,
Myron and I are hosting ESPN Radio 3-7,
filling in for Freddie Coleman and Harry Douglas.
So today, if you're ESPN radio, you want something to do this afternoon.
Myron and I'll be hosting from 3 to 7.
Let me quickly.
I'm going to pull up.
I have it look what the ESPN headlines are,
so we see what we have to talk about.
All right, let's see what we got.
Let's see what I got for these things.
Number one, Kirk Ference, suspended for quarterback,
Recruiting.
Oh, I got a lot to say about that.
Falcon signing quarterback Terrell to $81 million deal.
Don't know who that is.
Waste of money.
I don't know who that is.
The Yanks back, Aaron Judge, after criticism from Little League World Series coach.
This is going to be a hard day.
I saw that, though.
Yeah, we talked about that.
Oh, the guy who did the pommel horse from the Olympics will be on Dancing with the Stars.
You can do a minute on that.
Actually, I think of all the things on the list.
That's the best one.
Focus on that.
That's the one that I actually could do.
That's going to be a hard day with those.
You got to do four hours, right?
Four hours.
Oh, you got strong parlor horse takes?
We like to take calls, so please call in and help us.
Who's next?
Freebird is next.
Freebird, how are you?
Hey, guys.
I'm originally from Harrisburg, man, and I tell you,
I'm kind of stoked.
I'd love to see Jennifer Johnson.
Come here with your grandfather,
our athlete was
by any
three,
Patriot School.
Thank God.
Hang on just a second,
sir.
Take us off speaker.
I feel like I say that.
Maybe I've been gone
for a while,
but you can't do a radio show
on speakerphone.
I didn't know.
Is that better?
That's much better.
You mean you didn't know
you were on speaker phone.
Go ahead.
I'm not technologically savvy.
Okay.
But no,
I'm from Herodberg.
And
Jasper's grandson,
My grandfather, Alas, was my history teacher in high school.
And I see his grandmother, Ms. Johnson, occasionally.
But I am stoked.
I would love to see that kid to come to Kentucky.
And thank God, Albus, never with my butt in high school.
That was a big.
Well, that was a big.
Yeah, well, I appreciate the call.
That's a big, I mean, forget the fact that he's the number of 12-ranked player in America, Ryan.
That's obviously great.
He's from Kentucky.
But the history of that family, in terms of their impact.
impact on the state of Kentucky Athletics and the University of Kentucky with Alvin, his grandfather,
Dennis, like Derek, I mean, the whole family.
Like, you want to seem here because that is one of Kentucky athletics, like, signature families, right?
We love it when it's a legacy recruit like that.
We all love it.
And his dad, Dennis, is one of the top five defensive players maybe to ever play here.
He had the sax record for a long time.
His dad, Alvis, was an administrator under Mitch Barnhart for a long time.
I mean, that family is, his brother Derek played in Kentucky.
He's one of the few guys to play offensive line and defensive line at Kentucky.
That family means a lot to that community in Harrisburg and the University of Kentucky.
Which is why he has to go here.
I mean, you can't let your grandfather worked at Kentucky, your dad played at Kentucky,
your uncle played at Kentucky, like you can't then have that kid go to Alabama.
Yeah, that's why everybody wants to keep the Johnson name around.
I mean, from a basketball standpoint, he's very good,
but there are other guys that they could get be just fine.
But it's all about keeping him home because everyone loves rooting for the hometown kid,
especially one that's a legacy recruit.
Maybe one day he'll have a kid and we just keep getting Johnson's forever until the end of time.
That's what Shannon wants.
He wants Johnson to the end of time.
I mean, I want Jasper Johnson.
I said he's not getting confused.
He's not getting confused.
Who's up next?
Terry is up next.
That's the most mature thing.
Terry, go ahead, Terry.
Yeah, Matt.
I know this story.
going to resonate with you because it's great weather weeks like this that I miss my dear brother South
and Steve. We would sit out and listen to the shows like this and I wanted to share a story
with you about him that you'll appreciate. Circa, 1982, 83. And people need to know also that people
used to call me and say, why are you going on the radio acting like South End Steve? We were two
different people. We sounded just alike, but we were two different people. And Matt, you know,
Steve was much louder and boisterous with me, and he'd like to indulge before he went on the
ear. So anyway, so we're, in 1983, Rex Chapman is a senior at Apollo, and they come to Louisville
Gardens to play Ballard. And we're in the lower bowl, but we're on the top.
roll of the lower bowl and two rolls down from us on the right are billy packer and brent musburger
they must have been there because louisville must have played the next day you know uh in freedom
hall so we're sitting there and i pointed out to steve a goal that there's packer and musburger
and then i see his will start to turn that he's got going to have to say something so they're getting
ready to tip off it's very quiet and he stands up and bells out you are
are looking live from Louisville Garden.
I like that.
And Musburger doesn't turn.
He just puts his thumb up in the air.
Big thumbs up and never turned around.
He's probably used to that after a while.
Yeah, well, that's neat.
Listen, your brother was one of my favorite callers.
We miss him, and God bless him and you, Terry.
Thanks.
Thank you.
Appreciate it.
Shannon, I got a story for you real quick that just came out.
All right.
The prisoners in the Kentucky State prisons found a way to hack state-issued computer tablets
to create more than a million dollars that didn't exist
that they then spent on buying things in the prison,
including games, music, email access, and visits with their loved ones.
Wow. You get video games in prison? I didn't even know you get those things.
I guess you do if you have the money.
So state, the state, the same.
state sold to a company the ability to allow inmates to have tablets, the inmates figured out
how to hack inside the tablets and create for themselves money into their prison account.
That's pretty impressive.
But, you know, if you're a prisoner, you're just sitting around all day, thinking up things,
I guess, right?
What else do you have to do?
It's still pretty impressive that a group of prisoners could hack the system.
To be honest with you, since they ended up just using the money to, like, buy snacks and to visit
their families. I actually
think, Drew, we should say
these are pretty smart people.
Maybe we should find a way to have them do something
for the state or something.
Like if you're in prison, if they're
able to hack a state
tablet, to me,
that's actually impressive. Limited resources.
With very limited resources.
What do you even have? Yeah, I don't want to condone
stealing from the state, but that's pretty impressive
on their part, and they show the state, hey, maybe
let's tighten up security on all this stuff.
But they created the money out of
nothing. So it's not like they stole Ryan
other people's money. They just sort of
created it out of thin air.
So there's not really a victim
to the crime exactly.
So I say you put them like to
work for something positive. They did it all with a
shank and an L foul. I mean, how do you
not? If they're able to figure this out, yeah, why
not use that talent
to help the state in other areas?
It is a little worrisome though
that it was that easy to do
if the state was able to lose it.
This segment is sponsored by Pelican
technologies. Speaking of that, and I didn't even do this on purpose, do you want to keep your
computer system from getting hatch? Maybe the state should use Pelicon. They will come and they will
look at your, you know, your system and see if you have vulnerabilities. It's Pelicon, P-E-L-Y-C-O-N-com
slash K-SR. They'll give you a free IP assessment, check your VPN services, check where you are
vulnerable for hacking. State of Kentucky should have used it, and you can use it. P-E-L-L-C-O-N-D-C-O-N.
slash KSR for a free assessment.
We'll take a break and come back.
Final segment.

It is Kentucky Sports Radio final segment again here from the Kentucky Association of Health Plans.
If you come to the State Fair, you can come right over here next to the Kentucky Association of Health Plans next to Walgreens.
They'll give you a flu shot for free.
and then when you get the flu shot,
they'll give you, it allows you to get rides for free outside.
So it's a good way you get a flu shot.
You get to ride rides for free.
Sounds like a pretty good deal.
Which one you're going with?
You're going to go like Himalayan ride, the Scrambler, the Toto World teacups?
I sort of agree with Nate Bargazzi.
I don't really want to be on a ride that 20 minutes ago was on the interstate.
So I'm going to stick away from that.
But for other people, I think they would,
they would enjoy it.
I'm here for the people watching.
You were naming all these events, top five things to do.
The people watching, that's why we're here.
Quick baseball thing.
Do we have any Reds fans here?
Got a couple.
Joey Votto officially retired yesterday.
Going to be a Hallfamer 40 years old.
He tried to come back, and he decided that he just wasn't good enough.
And I don't know if you saw.
He retired in the parking lot of the minor league stadium he was playing in.
and they were about to play and he said you know what i've just decided i'm not good enough
uh and he retired and he actually wrote a tweet last night that was kind of sad it was he said he
got in the taxi or whatever the uber to go home and the uh the the the uber driver said
are you a ball player and he said no not anymore oh man oh thank that's kind of that's that's
that's kind of a tough uh kind of sad i i've never been a big joivato fan but i saw that last night
I got a lump in my throat.
I mean, that's a guy's one of the best ever played for the Red.
He played his entire career with the Red.
They love him up there.
How many guys are left in sports that will play their entire career for one team?
Not many.
There are, I mean, there are not many.
There's a handful you're going to have, like, Steph with the Warriors is probably going to,
but probably going to finish his career.
But there are not many guys that play their entire, they're that good, Drew,
and play their entire career for one team.
Yeah, I'm thinking about the NFL, just about all of them end up somewhere else.
My guy Derek Henry is a raven, you know, got Aaron Rogers with the Jets.
They almost all do one last ride with another team before they caught quits.
I mean, think about even the best quarterbacks nowadays.
Manning, Brady, Aaron Rogers all ended up with another team before it was over.
It just doesn't happen very much.
And it's got to be hard to know, like, when is it, when's the right time?
A lot of times, you know, those really elite athletes just can't.
hang it up and they just hang on a little too long.
That's in everything in life.
Yeah.
I mean, this job, people hang on for too long.
Like, there just comes a point.
You have to do it.
Then the other thing that happened for the Reds,
Ellie Dale Cruz became only the fifth baseball player
in the history of baseball to have 60 stolen basins and 20 home runs in the season.
He is unbelievable.
He's going to go down, I think, is one of the best players of the last 10 years.
He's going to be the first guy to do.
like 60 30, 70, 30.
I mean, these numbers are just going to keep going up the long of he plays.
No one has ever done 80, 25.
And I feel like he's going to do that for sure at some point, right?
So will you all ever be good while you have him?
I'm not saying that to troll, but when you got one of the best players, you've got to be better than my season.
My season ticket renewal is due September 13.
You know you're going to do it.
And I know I'm going to do it.
Of course you are.
But like, I haven't even gotten to go to that many games this year with all my traveling,
but I know I'm going to do it.
But part of me goes is, why do I keep doing this?
They're never going to be good.
You're like Votto.
You just keep hanging on.
How soon until they bring Votto back and do something for them?
No, Votto's going to be on television.
Oh, yeah.
Votto, I'll make you bet.
Votto will either be calling the Reds games or doing a national broadcast by next year.
Like, he's too good at it.
He will be, he'll be on television.
Who's next?
Jake is up next.
Jake, go ahead, Jake.
Hey, Matt.
Long-time listener, first-time caller.
Who are?
With the schedules that have come out with the men's basketball,
women's basketball, and then, of course, we're looking forward to football,
what do you think is more likely?
A sweet 16 for the men's team,
the suite 16 for the women's team,
or a playoff game for football.
Well, if I were to rank those playoff game for football,
would be third, most likely.
And it's an interesting question.
Men's Sweet 16 are women's next year?
I feel good about both, honestly.
I think they might each do it right away.
Kenny Brooks has loaded up and got excited.
I don't think people realize how good our women's team.
Our women's team has a chance to be really, really good next year.
Immediately.
Throwing in the excitement of the new Memorial Coliseum, have a lot more butts in the seats.
It'll be a hard place to play.
I might say him, but I think both can do it right away.
That atmosphere for the women's team this year, it's going to be, you know, Memorial is now going to be down to 6,000 people.
But that's going to make it loud.
It's going to make it exciting.
And those women's games, I think they have a chance to be like shows.
I really do.
Ryan, I think that's exciting.
We haven't talked about it enough this summer because it's overshadowed by the new men's basketball, men's coach.
But you're right, Kenny Brooks has put together a team that may go farther than the men's team next year.
So which one are you taking?
Who's going to go farther?
Men or women in the tournament?
I'm going to say women.
Women's basketball's got some elite teams at the top.
But otherwise, I think Kentucky is capable of making a run.
I know South Carolina is going to be South Carolina again.
But I still think Kentucky is going to have a great first season with him.
Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
That's tough.
I'm going to say men, Shannon, but, like, I mean, he's right.
He's right.
I wouldn't shock me if the women's team was, like, top ten this year.
I mean, they have a chance.
Yeah, Kenny Brooks put together a really good team.
I think I'm going to go women's one, men's two, and then the football playoff.
Football's definitely third of those.
What would you say?
What if it was men's elite eight, women's elite eight, nine wins in football?
I would probably still think.
I might still pick the women first.
I just hope the guys get out of the first weekend
I just wanted to make this weekend
out of that first weekend of the NCAA tournament
win a game in the SEC tournament
I'll be happy
I have to tell you
it is strange to me to be a
like when people start having me
on shows to preview Kentucky basketball
Drew I have no idea what to say
like I have no idea
if we're going to be good
or not
like I think we're going to be good
but I don't know that we're going to
to be good. It wouldn't shock me if we're top 10, top eight. It also wouldn't shock me if we're not
very good. And I don't know what it's what's going to, what's going to happen. I don't, I think they're
going to be better than middle of the pack. I just think there's so much experience that has played
so much college basketball. They're going to win games. I mean, Lamont Butler, who's going to be the
starting point guard, has hit a buzzer beater in the final four before. I mean, these guys have won big
games and know how to play. It's a matter of, you know, defense, I think it's going to be an issue,
and they're going to have games where they're cold with the system they play. They'll lose some
of those. But otherwise, I think the floor is all right. I'm not sweating it too much.
I don't know if they'll win the league or be in the elite eight, but I don't think we're all
going to be disappointed. I do think, though, whatever we are early in the year is kind of what
we're going to be. One of the things about the Cal teams is because they were young.
You assume they would improve a lot during the course of the year. I think we'll know pretty early,
Shannon, within the first 10 games, like how good they are.
They've got shooters and they've got experience.
And anytime you have those two things, you've got a chance.
You've got a chance.
We will be able to score no matter what.
The questions can we stop anybody?
And I don't know the answer to that question.
These summer practice videos, like they're doing in-depth stuff already,
whereas in the past, you know, we hear we're teaching them how to huddle and they're learning this.
It's just so much different when you have older guys and experience.
That's true.
Yeah, they're having intense.
I didn't mean that it's a joke.
She started laughing.
It was literally that's what we heard out of summer practices.
A couple things.
First of all, remember through Sunday, the specials for the NIL, Kentucky Blue Light beer are at the bar.

Somebody's going to win it.
And so when you go, there's a little, like, iPad, when you walk in, put your email address in there,

two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, and we're gearing up for the season finale
