Starting point is 00:03:25 at the KSR Golf Scramble at Glen Oaks Country Club here in Louisville it is the 10th KSR, Golf Scramble, and Louisville. Hard to believe. Wow. A decade anniversary of this event. This was our first one.
Starting point is 00:03:39 We did this one before we did the Lexington one, and every year we end up with a full group and excited this year. Got to see a lot of familiar faces. Some new ones. It should be an awesome day. It's going to be beautiful. I don't know how many of you played last year, and remember it was about 175 degrees during this thing last year. It is going to be much more pleasant this year outside and excited. to be excited to be here.
Starting point is 00:04:03 You can give a shout to Clark's Pubpit Shop phone line 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-744-5-254 in this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith's Middlaw office. If you call T.J. He'll make them pay. Full house here today. Ryan Drew Shannon. We got Billy. Mario's taking film. Big day yesterday at the state fair, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:04:23 When the show was over, we walked around. Mario had never been to the state fair, so I showed him all the various things that will clog your heart that you can buy to eat. I was glad to see the state fair to me, for me, if you want dips, they have more dips, then I don't mean like put your mouth. Oh, they have that too. But they have like every kind of like, you know, pour it into a jar of salsa and your fine dip.
Starting point is 00:04:49 More Trump T-shirts than the world has ever seen are there. And then just, you know, all the counties have a representation. It was a fun time. And he got a fried Oreo. I had a great time there. went back last night, ever clearer. Marcy Playground played, you know, all the hits from the 90s. I was telling, I was telling Mario, I'm not sure I've ever known a person that loves the state
Starting point is 00:05:10 fair more than you do. It feels like that is your heaven. It is. That and louder than life, or like where I'm happiest. You know, it's just, it's a lot of fun. A lot going on there. You see everything, best people watching on the planet. Oh, some great people watching.
Starting point is 00:05:21 You get it all wrapped into one. I found out that the dude, the Trump shirt dude that we've seen over all the years. I found out he was kicked out day one. Oh, he was told not to come back. Coming in hot. He was probably looking for you on day one. Well, probably, but he didn't make it through the end. That guy, I did miss him, though.
Starting point is 00:05:37 I feel like he's part of the architecture over the year. Well, he got arrested last year, got thrown out this year. It seems to be like a yearly tradition. It is. It is arrested and thrown out of the state. But it was fun. You walked around with us, and we had a good time. Mario and I stayed a long time after the show.
Starting point is 00:05:49 We even shared a donut burger. I'm glad there's no evidence of that. On either side and, like, get closer to the other. What happens with us in South Wing A is between us, but we shared that and several other foods. And I like to see in freedom all. I hadn't been there in a while since I was assaulted. Since you were punched a few weeks ago. So it was good to be back at the scene of the crime.
Starting point is 00:06:06 But I had a fun afternoon. Like I said, we stayed a couple hours after the show ended. Well, I had a good time. Thanks to all the people that came out, Ryan. There were a lot of people there yesterday to see us. Great crowd, a lot of familiar faces that we've seen over the years when you come to Louisville. But to go back to the State Fair, I rode over here with Mario, and he was really bragging on these deep-fried Oreo, the donut burger. But he said, he was disappointed with the corn dogs.
Starting point is 00:06:28 I was kind of disappointed. and him for ordering a corn dog you have all these people you got the kentucky cattlemen's association the port produce you got all this like homegrown kentucky food and my guy orders a corn dog from the carnival food station yeah you got to go you got to know you got to do better than that you can't go you can't be ordering like cotton candy that came on the interstate with yeah with uh we did a whole food tour we spent nearly fifty dollars at all the different stands outside so he ate everything that was fried and dipped in batter well it's good it's hopefully it won't show on his figure Then after it was over, I hosted ESPN.
Starting point is 00:07:05 I'm not sure there's ever been a day that I've ever hosted a show where there was less to talk about. I knew we were in trouble when I got to the rundown and the first thing it said was a name I'd never heard was traded to the Eagles. And they were going to lead the show with that. And I just said to the guy, I'm like, I can't do this. I said, what else is going on? And then Myron goes, well, Rick Patino had his office broken into. And I said, say no more. We're leading the show with this.
Starting point is 00:07:33 And since we're in Louisville, I want to talk about this story. Because to be honest with you, it made me mad a little bit. All right. So have you all seen this story? This happened yesterday. Rick Petino at St. John's two college kids brazenly just walked into his office and stole stuff. So he tells the New York Post they stole a ceremonial sword. Now, first of all, when I said that, I made a joke.
Starting point is 00:07:59 joke that my bosses asked me to tone down, which was I said, well, maybe he should be glad that's gone. His ceremonial sword has gotten him in trouble in the past. Oh, yeah. Which, that's a good lie. That's a good lie. Like, that's a solid joke. They asked me not to repeat it again. But he had his ceremonial sword and his bullhorn stole. I have no idea why those two things are in his office, right?
Starting point is 00:08:25 What is a bullhorn? Why do you want a bullhorn? I don't know. And then the third thing he said was stolen was a 1985 P. Petrit, what kind of wine is that? Petrus. Very expensive wine.
Starting point is 00:08:40 Pietras, whatever it was. Petrus. Patruse. Sorry, that's how you say it. 85 Petrus, 6L, which I later learned meant six liters. Big bottle. Big bottle. We looked it online.
Starting point is 00:08:51 It was worth $99,000. My gosh. $99,000. $85,000. from the West Bank of wherever it was, so it was worth $99,000. So when I see it, when we talk about it, I go, that's really strange.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Why does he have a $99,000 bottle of wine in his office? And a guy calls in who says that's one of the rarest bottles of wine like patino. That's an amazing bottle of wine. He should be very upset that got stolen. About an hour later, I don't know if you saw this. He tweets out, by the way, I was just kidding about that bottle of wine being stolen. He was like the only thing stolen were the bullhorn and the ceremonial sword. And I have to tell you, Drew, it made me mad.
Starting point is 00:09:37 That's right. I didn't know the follow up. Here's why it made me mad. He said it was just a joke. I don't know why people didn't realize it was a joke. Why would that be a joke? Exactly. That's not a joke.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Like it has no structure. It doesn't have a punchline. He basically said, hey, they stole this bottle of wine. Oh, just kidding. No, they didn't. It's not a joke. It's not a joke. That's lying about what was taken.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Right. And he was like mocking in an article that anyone would believe that was stolen. But the other two items that did get stolen were a sword and a bullhorn. Like the sword and the bullhorn are real and we're supposed to know the wine is a joke. How would anyone know that? So do we hate Bettino again now? But he then said, he then said something like, I would never take that to my office. Yeah. Which means he wanted everyone to know that he had 100,000.
Starting point is 00:10:29 thousand dollar bottle of wine. That's Rick, though. He just didn't want to brag, so he was like, by the way, I had a $100,000 bottle of wine. It would be like you said, I took my Ferrari to Kroger, and someone hit my Ferrari. Oh, just kidding, I would never take it to Kroke.
Starting point is 00:10:47 It was just a way to say that he had it. So, right, once again on national radio was ranting about Rick Petito. Yeah, I think like his original quote was something like, you know, I understand they want to take it. take my memorabilia, but don't, why did you take my wine? Like, he was acting like he was so upset. And then he just came back and said, no, they didn't take my wife. My bad.
Starting point is 00:11:07 Do you think it was insurance fraud? He wanted to claim $100,000 in insurance, and then he realized it was all on camera, and they didn't walk out with a bottle of wine. Exactly what happened. That's the first of her. I didn't know the follow-up. I thought that was the story that as big, gigantic bottle of wine that's as old as I am is gone.
Starting point is 00:11:25 And didn't they get away on a moped? Yeah, that's the other thing. So yesterday, it is a, again, remember we were talking about the yacht? Two guys who both got convicted, both died the same day. This is also weird. Two college basketball coaches, one in St. John's, and then Penny Hardaway at Memphis, had 28 signature foam posits, that's his shoes, specially custom for him, stolen off his porch. Same day.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Both of them were just college kids who walked up without mask and took them. That's a weird coin. incidents that two college coaches would get those weird things stolen from them on the exact same day. Very brazen by college kids just strolling these offices of some of the biggest names in college basketball and take off with their stuff. Which led to one, so I then made some joke like maybe college basketball coaches are being targeted, and one of you wrote me and said, Bill Self better watch his hairpiece. It's going to be, which I thought was actually a really good joke, right?
Starting point is 00:12:24 You know, do you think that Caliperia all along has had this wine in his office? You mean Patino? Petino. Or Califery. Or chubby. Now he's trying to be Billy. More likely to be Billy. That's true.
Starting point is 00:12:37 Billy has $6 boons and he's got a 10 gallon, but go ahead. So is Patino now wanting to act like he's never had that in? So people won't break in again. I think you just wanted to brag about it. But anyway, it was nice to start my day going back to it. What we're not talking about, though, is the idea, the thought of seeing two guys riding together on a moped down the street with a sword and a bullhorn. And a bullhorn. Just that image.
Starting point is 00:13:03 It'd be hard to get away from the bullhorn. In New York City. Yeah. That's why it's why every day. It would look like New York City. The other thing that I, from yesterday, that's a Kentucky-based thing that I think is actually an interesting story. The University of Kentucky's K-fund announced something yesterday that I think is. one of the most dramatic flips that I've seen the University of Kentucky do in a long time.
Starting point is 00:13:28 You know, for those of you, any of you season ticket holders football or basketball in here? Okay, so you all know, part of when you buy season tickets, you give money to the K fund. And it's, you know, it's like a tax to get to go to UK, and they use that fund for whatever. They're now announcing, they just announced this yesterday, that for the first time, if you give money to one of the four official NIL groups of U.K. sports, and by the way, that number probably should be more like two or three than it, or probably two than four, but there are four. They will count the money you give as a K-fund donation. That's awesome, but kind of shocking to me.
Starting point is 00:14:09 I mean, that, remember we talked to Drew when NIL started about there's going to be attention from UK and the athletes for funds. For Mitch Barnhart, who has been, I think it's fair to say, slow if not anti-exam. NIL to now allow alumni or boosters to give money to players and have it count towards their K-fund points. That's a subtle thing, but that's a big thing, and I actually, I think, will put Kentucky ahead of most schools in that regard. Yeah, to be honest, I'm kind of surprised they're doing it.
Starting point is 00:14:43 As you said, when NIL first started, Mitch was not in a hurry to get Kentucky at the forefront of what they were doing. You're telling me now we have beer that pays players and that he's, giving up money that would normally go to UK athletics, letting the fans donate to these collectives to help out the players and then get their K-fund points. I'm glad it's happening. I'm just a little surprised we're at
Starting point is 00:15:02 that point. Right, and they must assume that with the new SEC contract, they're going to have so much money that it doesn't matter. I mean, honestly, that's probably what it is. I mean, the contract starts this year. Their revenue from television, I think, is doubling. So, I mean, I guess they think in the
Starting point is 00:15:18 short term that can work. my worry about NIL at Kentucky has always been two things. One, do we have enough big ticket donors? I still worry about that long term, but I think in the short term, the crafts and some other people have stepped up to kind of, long term, that's still an issue, but short term. But then the second was, I wondered if the university would do anything internal to encourage it. I think this is one of the best things they could do.
Starting point is 00:15:46 if you can give the money you would have given to the K fund to something else, and then the K fund points count the same, I think that's big. Because I think, you know, these folks, these season ticket holders right here, they're already used to giving to the K fund. That's already a part of what their nature is to buy those UK tickets. So, yeah, naturally they are going to assume we can give that now to the NIL. Because they're already giving it up anyway. Because, yeah, I mean, the NIL is not tax-free, right?
Starting point is 00:16:12 I mean, that's part of it. So that hurts it a little bit for people who give a lot of money. But I think, if I'm correct, tickets are not tax-free anymore either. I think that was part of when Trump changed the tax laws. I think they took away the tax. There was some sort of tax benefit you used to get that you don't get now. I don't know the specifics of it. But regardless, this is good for Kentucky in terms of the competitiveness.
Starting point is 00:16:42 You throw this with the poll yesterday. that said that coaches think Kentucky has the fourth biggest NIL pool, I feel much better about, especially the basketball NIL now, than I did say a week ago, Drew. Yeah, and season ticket holders know you want as many K-fund points as you can because you get priority on things, better seats. So if you can buy your tickets and then also if you have it, throw a little money to some players,
Starting point is 00:17:04 a lot of people want to stack up their K-fund points to be climbed that ladder. Yeah, because I do think there was a time the K-fund donation, you got your tax-free fund, and you don't with NIL. but it still, I think, is a good move by UK. 859-2-8027. The text machine is 7-7-2-744. We are here at Glen Oaks. The KSR, Louisville Golf Scramble.

Welcome back, Tuggy Sports Radio,
Starting point is 00:21:59 here live at the KSR Golf Scramble. Thanks to all the folks out here. It should be a fun day. Got a lot of people on the holes. The only negative is I was going to bring Shannon Cashflow out here to chop people. Yeah. And he had some hiccups.
Starting point is 00:22:13 He's moving, and so he's not able to come, so none of you will get your chest chopped, like I thought I was hoping people would today, unfortunately. You know, Cashflow is big time now. He's a movie star. Yeah. Yeah, I called him, and I was like, has your rate changed? Because, you know, the show, the Sylvester Stallone show, Tulsa King, season two comes out middle of September, and he is one of the stars of the show.
Starting point is 00:22:35 He is like, you know, he's Mr. Big Actor, like, at this point. So I didn't know if we'd be able to get him here at the Golf Scrable. Is he moving out here by Papa John's out in the big neighborhood? I think he's buying Pat Kelsey's house. I mean, that's so... Good for him. I love that guy. Nobody has worked hard.
Starting point is 00:22:53 I mean, I'll put you in a figure four leg lock if you want that as a replacement. I can do that. I don't think that would hurt. I don't think that would hurt at all. 859, 280, 2287. Text machine is 772-7525-254. One person writes, Matt. Ryan made three of 36 puts last time over under
Starting point is 00:23:11 this time. All right, so this time, I think there's 34 at this course. So out of 34, the difference, though, is 18's of par 3 here, right? Isn't it? Over water. That's a long par 4. 3. So the putts are going to be far. Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Like, you're not going to get, 18 is a hard hold of birdie. You're not going to get any 4 or 5 footers. And the last time, the putt you made were like 4 and 5 feet. Yes. You won't get many of those. I'm going to say under 3 today of his 3. I think that's a safe guess because last year, like you said, it was 170 degrees.
Starting point is 00:23:46 I think I was an ofer last summer on this screen because none of them were closed. Yeah. This is a hard. This, like when you just see who wins this thing, 18 will be one of the holes that decides it because you're going to have to birdie it because it's a tough, it's a tough shot. So I'm going to say under. What about Drew? Yeah, I was the most confident in him in Lexington. He went under my prediction of four.
Starting point is 00:24:06 I'm going to say one today. You know, we talked yesterday and he was supposed to bring a putter, so in his downtime he could warm up and he doesn't. He doesn't have one. So now you've got to use other people's putters. You're not going to hit any today. You're going to go over. That's a safe bet. Have any of you not played this course?
Starting point is 00:24:19 All right, let me tell you a little secret. There's a hole out here. It won't be as bad today. But there's a hole out here that is the hottest place on the planet. Don't you agree? That par three. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:31 There's a par three that goes from the top. It's like 14 or something like that, 13. It goes from the top down into this little valley, and it's surrounded by trees. and it's the only place on the planet where air is not allowed to go. And it gets that water in there. And then when it rains, you remember what it's like. And last year that was the OVW hole,
Starting point is 00:24:53 and I thought I was going to have lawsuits for dead wrestlers because they were sitting there for five hours and at the end of it just died. We also had one of the alcohol sponsors on that hole, and whatever they were serving, it was boiling shots of whatever it was. I don't know if hoop tea is here. I'm going to go ahead and give you. a free plug for hoop tea. Jennifer at hoop tea, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:25:15 You're going to be really hot. That's some cold tea. You're going to be really. People will want the tea if it's cold because it's going to be hot on that hole. Who's next? Andrew is up next. Andrew, go ahead, Andrew.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Hey, guys. I heard a call over the other day say they wanted to use the money that the school's going to get to use to pay the players, go straight towards football. and abandoned basketball. I actually think we need to do the opposite, but if we spend 100% of the school's money,
Starting point is 00:25:48 earmark for men, whatever number that is, my question is, for either football or basketball, what's like the ceiling and the floor for each? Well, I mean, if you gave, let's go through, let's say you took the amount, this is, again, NIL money is a little bit to me like fictional money because we really don't know. All these numbers float around.
Starting point is 00:26:09 I'm generally of the belief, that every number is higher than it actually is. But I do think what you're hearing people say, people are paying for players, Drew, is getting closer and closer to reality. Like, you used to hear people say, so-and-so got $4 million, they didn't. I think now, here's what I was told. The going right now, I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:26:32 For a top freshman is between $1.2 and $1.5 million. for a top freshman. The going rate for a transfer is that, if they're great, all the way down to maybe a couple hundred thousand dollars. And there's wide variations. The kids that are actually not making money much, at least I don't know if you agree with this, are kids not ranked in the top 20 that are freshmen
Starting point is 00:27:01 because people are like, well, let's just go into a transfer because at least we know that kid's good. Why take a risk on the freshman? So the top 25 guys are getting money, but the guys rank like 60th and 70th in the high school class aren't as much. The UK pool, let's say we took all the money that we get donated in and I on putting the basketball. We'd have any player we wanted. I mean, any player they wanted would come here. If you took all the money we donated and gave it to football, I really don't know if we'd be any different spot than we are right now.
Starting point is 00:27:35 To be quite frank with you. We'd be about the same. There's only one or two players, Drew, in football that I've heard that we lost because we didn't offer a big enough NIO. I honestly think Kentucky is not competitive with Alabama's, but Alabama has the, it's Alabama. So we'd have to double the money they give to get somebody to come. I actually don't think NIO is a huge hindrance yet for football, although it may be at some point down the road. And I can't help but still think, you know, this is new. those prices are going to come down.
Starting point is 00:28:07 They're going to come down. These big donors that are cutting half a million dollars checks for a player, they can't do that forever. They can't. They got rich because they're good with their money and just handing it to a kid every year to play basketball. I feel like that's eventually got to come down. I think my view is the big winners in the Nile world
Starting point is 00:28:27 were the kids that were transfers last year. They won. I think we got one more year of kids. If you transfer after this year, I think you're going to win as well. After that, I think Congress is going, after this presidential election, I don't care who wins, Trump or Harris, Congress is going to pass a law about this. That settlement they had gives Congress almost permission to pass a law.
Starting point is 00:28:54 They're like, okay, players have agreed to a settlement. We will make that settlement law. I think it'll be bipartisan. I think in 2025, an NIL bill will pay. pass. So I think two years from now, there'll be like a salary cap of some sort. The NIL deals will be forced to be open, which means you'll know what people are getting, which I think also will lead the prices to come down, to be quite frank with you. So I think we got one more year of the Wild West. And then I think the year after that, Ryan, it will start to resemble
Starting point is 00:29:32 something more like a market of rationality than it is right now. So you want to get your money now, transfer after this season. No, I will make you a bet, especially in football. Everyone is going to transfer. Because I think agents know they got one more year to go out and it be wild. I think you will see an absolute onslaught of people transfer after this year. But then after that, I think it will start to become more. more of what people hope it would be than what it's been the last year or two.
Starting point is 00:30:06 At least that's my belief. It's all about whether Congress passes a bill, and I think they will after this presidential election. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Drew, this is Beyonce. So last night, the Internet got ablaze. They said TMZ reported, Beyonce's coming the Democrat convention.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Like people started storming the building. They wouldn't let anybody move. everybody was like the queen bee is coming and then she just didn't come apparently she was never supposed to be there it was a twitter rumor that then TMZ turned into a news story and everyone fell for it even me I don't watch those speeches but I was like well I'd like to see what happens if Beyonce goes up there and then they were just like no she's not coming it just goes to show how like we'll believe anything it all started with one guy's tweet who was like someone crazy's coming the bees are
Starting point is 00:31:04 it. And everybody's like, well, there you go. And the next thing you know, it was all made up. I saw she was rumored. Taylor Swift was rumored. And George Bush was rumored. They were even tracking Taylor's plane. It's like she's not Chicago. Did she change her mind? Probably like you said, they all just started with one person. It just ended up being Leon Panetta, which is not quite as exciting. As those other people were. But, oh, well, what are you going to do? 859-280-2287. one person writes, Matt, it used to be 80% of your K fund donation could be deducted on taxes. That's what's gone away. So I guess I never donated the money to know that. But, Ryan, that's the change that's happened.
Starting point is 00:31:44 Yeah, like I said, I think these folks are, season tickets holders are used to giving that money anyway. So now they have a chance to give it to the NIL fund, probably even maybe more generously, knowing it's going to an athlete and to a team. That is interesting. Would you be more generous giving to a school? or the athletes? I think athlete. I'm a proud alum, and I would give it to my receiver room first in my running backs.
Starting point is 00:32:10 If I'm really rich, we might get down to the science building. We might need to give it to an offensive line for this year. Ryan's given all this to Dane. The offensive line, Ryan's giving it to him in hot dogs to Dane. Before we go to the phones, Duke, UK, the time was announced for the game. Duke and UK tip off. at 9.30 at night. And it won't be 9.30.
Starting point is 00:32:33 It'll be more like 9.45 or 10 o'clock. Kentucky always, Ryan, gets the late game. Like always, and now that Kentucky Duke game will end probably midnight or later. It's not even, so it'll be more riskily. Realiscally be 930. It's 6.30 and 9. I'll believe it when it's it's.
Starting point is 00:32:52 But it is going to be late. That's the premier game to kick off the college basketball season. They want the West Coast people to be able to watch it. Hold on a minute. Now, nobody cares about Duke, Kentucky on the West Coast. It's all East Coast people that are going to be watching that. Does anybody out of California care about Kentucky, Duke? I think there's two things that'll make it a big deal this year,
Starting point is 00:33:11 maybe even a bigger deal than usual. I don't care how good they are. Duke and Kentucky are the two biggest brands in college basketball. I know Yukon's won back-to-back titles. It doesn't matter. Duke and Kentucky are the two biggest brands in basketball. They just are. Carolina's third, and maybe now Yukon has moved up to fourth,
Starting point is 00:33:28 but the biggest brands are Duke and Kentucky. So you're going to get the biggest. It's like the Cowboys. Cowboys get the best ratings whether they're good or not. Duke and Kentucky, so you get that, which you only get once every three years, right? Then it is on a Tuesday night that they intentionally nothing else is going on. The baseball, there's no baseball, the NFL's not playing. It's the only sporting event.
Starting point is 00:33:50 So that game, those games always get good ratings. At the end of the year, when they rank the highest rated college basketball games, the only game before January 15th that's on the list is the Champions Classic. Then this year, I think it's going to get a ton of attention because of Cooper Flag at Duke. It's going to be the first national stage for Cooper Flagg, who is one of the best high school recruits in years, and probably, if you're being honest, the best white high school basketball recruit since when. Tush.
Starting point is 00:34:29 Larry, but Larry Bird wasn't even a good, I mean, probably ever in a long, long time. So you throw that he's at Duke in that game with Kentucky having a new coach, right? And so people are going to wonder, I just think that, Drew, I think that game is going to get a massive rating. Oh, it's going to be huge. And really, the Champions Classic has not been good for us lately. No, it hasn't. We have a five and eight record in that event. Duke's won three of four.
Starting point is 00:34:59 and we haven't won one since 2018. Is that right? Zion and that team won by like 75. We have not won a game in the Champions Classic since 2018. I've been in every single one of them. That's why I know only March matters in that game so early, but we have got to win a damn Champions Classic game because it's starting to get pretty embarrassing showing up to that
Starting point is 00:35:19 and losing every year. Boy, that blows my mind. Me too. We lost to Zion. But that Zion year, that was 2018. because it was 2018 leading into the 2019 season the tournament so that would be so i guess you had the year before it would be 20 so we haven't won since 2017 we remember i mean like michigan state had them beat just a couple years ago uh i mean every year
Starting point is 00:35:45 that's been a disappointment that is that is five and eight over at all that is an actual that is a huge embarrassment right that we we play in the marquee event every year and we have not once since 2017 we have the worst record of the four teams Like I said, it's such a big high-profile showcase game. It kind of tips off the college basketball season. We won in 2019. Okay, so we haven't won since COVID. All right, so, I mean, still horrible.
Starting point is 00:36:08 Back to the COVID kind of being the breaking here. Still, though, I know we lost in 2018, so we've lost five the last six. Yeah. So, well, we definitely need to get a whim. What's next? Alex is up next. Alex, go ahead, Alex. Hey, guys, just wanted to tell you yesterday was the funeral of a gentleman named Josh
Starting point is 00:36:27 Pruitt from Johnson County. He had a long, courageous fight against cancer, and the highlight of his day for many, many, many months was these two hours, whether it was live or the podcast. We've been to KS. Bar with his kids several times, listening to you guys driving home from a game or going to a game. And we know this is too often of a call of somebody calling in saying that one of your listeners have passed away. but you guys really until you sit in a hospital room with somebody who's taking the chemo treatment
Starting point is 00:37:01 or going through some type of radiation or knowing that their days are you know within the foreseeable future you don't realize how powerful and how impactful these two hours can be to people thank you man i appreciate that first of all god bless you and his family on on the loss you know I hear a version of that a lot and but it's especially hits me when they talk about
Starting point is 00:37:30 that which is a cancer treatment or an end of life situation because that you know I mean Ryan always says that's what we do it for but it honestly like when I was contemplating not doing this anymore
Starting point is 00:37:45 it's stuff like that that keeps me doing it and so God bless your friend and their family. Who's up? Thank you for calling. Who's up next? Up next is Brandon. All right, Rick.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Let's go. Brandon, what's up? Hey, a longtime listener, first time caller. Who are? It's not really a song. It's just a jingle that I come up with. I was wondering if I could share it with you all. A jingle.
Starting point is 00:38:13 Oh, no. All right. All right, hang on just a second. I'm going to put this up to a vote. You know what I'm saying. Literally, you get back to back, like the calls that are the most powerful, and then the song calls, which are like the least powerful to me. So, all right, let's do a vote.
Starting point is 00:38:30 Drew, you want to hear the jingle, yes or no? Oh, you know I want to hear the jingle. Absolutely. Ryan, do you want to hear the jingle? I am on board, and I hope it's awful. That makes it even better when it's awful. Shannon, do you want to hear the jingle? I don't even know what the jingle is about, but I want to hear the jingle.
Starting point is 00:38:42 Well, I'm overruled. All right. Jingle. Jingle, jingle, jingle, jingle. All right, give me the jingle, sir. Okay, it's about our new linebacker, Dumas Johnson. It goes like this. Hang on, it's going to be the tune of Dumas Walker,
Starting point is 00:38:58 and I'm going to have to try not to, all right, go ahead. Let's all go, cheer for Dumas Johnson. Let's all go. I'm immediately regretting my decision. Six foot one and two 43, taking down the quarter. quarterbacks of the SEC. All right, I'll give it to you. That was better than I thought it was going to be.
Starting point is 00:39:24 That was better than I thought it was, Shannon should not have rudely interrupted you in the middle of it. That was better than I thought it would be. So I will give you a solid B minus, and I was expecting an F. So, well done, sir. I appreciate it. All right, we lost it.
Starting point is 00:39:40 Beautiful. I loved it. I will say, that's the dude, as we talked about a couple days ago, we haven't talked enough about him. I mean, we have a former All-American from Georgia who won a national championship on our team starting at linebacker, and we don't mention his name. I feel like, Ryan, he's going to be good. Yeah, well, you know, with Deion Walker and Maxwell Harrison getting all the pub, but he may be the guy that may be the most impactful on that whole defense playing that middle linebacker spot. And his injury, I was watching hard knocks with the bears, and they were talking about some player, Drew, and they said, And the guy literally said his injury was to his bicep, so it won't affect his ability.
Starting point is 00:40:22 And he was talking about an NFL guy. Well, that's exactly what the case is with Johnson, right? Yeah, I'm with you. I don't know how we haven't been talking about him. More, us included. The guy has two national championships. And in 2022, when he was an All-American, he was kind of a leader of that defense was second on Georgia and tackles. I mean, he's bringing two rings to Lexington.
Starting point is 00:40:41 And the dude that was going to beat him out for the spot is like a top-10 draft pick. So it's not like he was beaten out by just some chump. I mean, he was beaten out by a guy who's going to be picked in the top 10 in the draft. Yeah, a younger guy just slid in when he got hurt and played really well, and they decided to leave the younger guy in, and that's how we ended up. That's how you ended up. Dumas Walker. Hey, are you ready for an ultimate tailgate party, Ryan?
Starting point is 00:41:03 Oh, yeah, absolutely. Tell me about it. Clark's Pump and Shop. Has everything you need, beer, ice, chips, crispy, crunchy chicken platters. It's all there at Clark's Pumpets Shop. You can get a chicken sandwich, three piece bone-in fried chicken, or three tenders with the side of wedges for $5.99. Nothing costs $5.99. Nothing.
Starting point is 00:41:22 And you can do it right there. Clark's Pumpin' Shop, 540. No, hangar 54 pizza. There's one in many parts of Kentucky. It's Clark's Pumpin Shop, return, refresh, refuel. We'll take a break and be right back here at the KSR. Golf School. Last night, a blown call changed a game.

It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the KSR Golf Scramble at Glen Oaks Country Club. Drew and I were just sitting here talking during the break.
Starting point is 00:46:16 I don't mean to hype up a Duke player, but we were like, in the KSR era, what are the most hype recruits coming out of high school? And I would say it's John Wall, Anthony Davis, Zion. You said Andrew Wiggins, which I think is probably right at the time. And now I think Cooper Flagg. I think if you're going, Kevin Durant was very hyped up, but that was kind of right when I was getting started. So I'm going to say of the era that I was really going,
Starting point is 00:46:47 it's probably in order, Wall, Davis, Wiggins, Zion, and now Cooper Flagg. I mean, you're looking at one of the five, and if you've never seen him play, I've seen a lot of Kentucky fans kind of being like, well, he's overrated. Well, then you haven't seen him play. I mean, kids good.
Starting point is 00:47:04 Like, the kid is. legit good. I think if you're going to get Duke, you want to get him at the beginning of the year, Ryan. And so I think we're playing them at the right time. But that kid's going to be really, really good. Yeah, this guy, he's legit. He's a superstar in the making. So, yeah, maybe you get him early on.
Starting point is 00:47:18 Maybe he has an off night on his big spotlight game as he branch has a break out of it. So we'll see. He's from Maine. He's like, that's another thing. How do you grow up being good in Maine? And I think he's supposed to be a high school senior this year. He reclassified. That's right.
Starting point is 00:47:31 One person writes, I have a bet with my friend about Ryan. Oh, oh. I know you were talking about Ireland earlier. Do you think Ryan, if I gave him five random countries, could even know what continent they're on? Doubt it. You don't think so? I think we should try. I think you could.
Starting point is 00:47:49 I don't know. You don't think you would know what continent. It's questionable. Estonia, which is where one of our players is from. It's Europe. See? There go. Let's quit.
Starting point is 00:48:00 We've got to quit right now. Morocco. South America. Now, that's not a good guess. You should have stopped at Estonia. That's, I mean, like, that's not close. Africa. But you realize that's not close to South America.
Starting point is 00:48:18 Just across the pond, right? I feel like I'm not going to do them all, but I think you would do really well, because I think you would hear a word and it would associate you. What about Uzbekistan? I've never even heard of that. Who will take a guess? Asia. Look at you.
Starting point is 00:48:34 Is that right? Yes. You had a one in seven chance. Show a little more confidence. As long as you don't guess, well, first of all, you really have five. Don't guess Australia. You don't want to guess that. You don't want to guess that.
Starting point is 00:48:47 You have a one in five chance. And North America is just three countries. So really, you got a one in four chance. I did stay at a Holly Inn Express last night. You love that joke. You've made that joke on this show 750 times. What's next? Tim is up next.
Starting point is 00:49:01 Tim, Rick liked that one. Rick. thought that was funny. Tim, Tim, go ahead. Hey, good morning, guys. What's going on? I'm excited about the game next weekend.
Starting point is 00:49:15 I know it's Southern Myth, but it's still exciting for the season to start. And they got the new lights on there, and I looked on there. It's really cool looking. It's going to be awesome. Oh, yeah. And, you know, Mark Stoops has pulled us a long way,
Starting point is 00:49:32 and it's really exciting. to think about the season coming up. But as the schedule goes, Tennessee and Ole Miss, I think we're going to beat them. I really do. Listen, if we beat Tennessee and, listen, if we beat Tennessee and Ole Miss, you're talking about a team that's challenging for the playoff. Now, I mean, I'm not willing to say we're winning those games,
Starting point is 00:49:56 but if you believe we're beating Tennessee and Ole Miss, then you believe we have a chance to make the playoff. Oh, I do. I do. And let me tell you, my grandpa's tell me something like, don't worry about the skinny mule, just load the wagon. And I think that's what Mark Stoops is doing. And I'm pretty sure.
Starting point is 00:50:15 Don't worry about the mule. What does that mean? Don't worry. What do you mean, don't worry about the fact what your mules can't pull the wagon? Yeah, go ahead and load it up, and I bet they do. All right, well, there you go. I never heard that one. I've never heard of it, but I like it.
Starting point is 00:50:32 Yeah, the mule may look skinny, may not look like much, but go ahead and load up the wagon, the mule can pull. Well, I appreciate it. I appreciate the call. I'm going to have to run. I'm sorry. The lights. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:43 Those lights are going to be awesome. If you look and we'll see them in week one, that new light thing they put up is going to be. I would not bring a recruit on UK's campus now, Drew, unless we're doing a night game. It's going to look like much better than anything's ever looked in that stadium before. Yeah, unfortunately, Kentucky's had to go in. to some of those environments last couple years.
Starting point is 00:51:04 Ryan was there for Tennessee and Halloween. I wasn't, but on TV, that looked insane, South Carolina, when they brought their stupid DJ in to play Sandstorm, I mean, I'm glad we're a little behind, but I'm glad we finally have it, because it's crazy how just lights can change in an atmosphere, but it really gets fans fired up. Yeah, South Carolina Stadium is kind of not great, but when they do that, it makes it look awesome,
Starting point is 00:51:26 and now we're going to finally have that. Who's next? Jose is next. Jose, how are you, Jose? I live in California. I like Kentucky. I care about it. Rick, bell gloss, peanut noir, red wax top. It'll change your life. You're talking my language, man. You woke Rick up. Nice. Matt, Drew, I was listening to Fade This. You think these schools use clients as a recruiting tactic? Well, sick, Cal. I appreciate the call. Thank you for listening to that.
Starting point is 00:52:10 How many miles did you say Cal is flying this year? 18,000, I think. Cal is flying 18,000 miles to their games this year. All of their away games are on the East Coast. Yeah. By the way, thank you all who are listening to Fade this. We jumped into the top 100 on podcast for the first time, which was exciting. And people, it is kind of like for me and Drew KSR after dark.
Starting point is 00:52:34 Told a good, told a story about Kate Upton that we, you know, a story with me and Drew. DeMarcus Cousins and Kate Upton on the last show, talked about phone books. It was a good episode. I feel like I'm always being an idiot, but you really let yourself go on Fade This. Our friend Matt Harmon over here, we were talking before our show right now, and people wonder if you're taking ambience before Fade This. We weren't a minute into our ACC preview, and we were talking about phone books. Here's why I do that and Fade This.
Starting point is 00:53:03 On this show, whatever I say, whatever all of us say, but especially whatever I say, is dissected, put on Twitter, people crush it, send other teams fan bases, find it, they come after me. Fade this, I feel like,
Starting point is 00:53:18 is like you're hanging out with your family because most of the other fan bases don't know it exists, so they leave me alone, Shannon, so I feel like I can kind of say stuff without being absolutely attacked.
Starting point is 00:53:28 Well, now that you said that, I feel like I need to go back and dissect what the phone conversation was about. We had to use the dump button on a month this week. A dump button on a plug. Yeah, they had to dump me. Yeah, Matt said a word we don't say.
Starting point is 00:53:39 I was talking. about how when I started practicing law, we had to buy ads in the phone book. And I was talking about the process of having a legal ad in a phone book. I don't want to spoil it, but that was, we got into that. That was right away. Right before we got into any games. We'll take a break. Lunch is being served, so I will lose all these people's attention in the second hour,
