Welcome back, hour number two,
Degu Sports Radio. Lunch has been
served here.
Let's, I wanted,
before we have a little fun here
for the rest of the week, I wanted to talk just a second about
Jasper Johnson, because
the highest ranked player from the state
of Kentucky in a long, long time is going to decide next week.
Yesterday, a lot of people across college basketball landscape,
including Kentucky people, Alabama people, everybody made their pick to Jasper Johnson.
I'm not going to say, Drew, that the first person that said that was me,
but the first person that did say that was me.
And I think it's going to happen absent something crazy.
at the end. I think when it does, I think it's going to be a huge statement for Mark Pope for
UK. I think everybody should see a football coach next time you see them walking around and
give a big pat on the back for helping with that because I think that that was certainly an assist
by the big dog in making that happen. But I do think it is a statement recruitment for UK because
Because what happened, if you look at the world of college basketball and recruiting, no one believed, really, until I put that tweet out, no one believed Kentucky even had a chance.
They all thought it was Alabama and North Carolina.
And when I say that, I don't just mean recruiting people.
I mean coaches of other teams.
Like everybody had just said, you know, Kentucky's not competing on this level of Alabama, North Carolina for recruits.
and then almost overnight after a day of visits from a handful of people, it flipped.
And now I think he's going to go to Kentucky, and all of a sudden the nation's going, oh, wait a minute.
If Kentucky's doing that and it's Kentucky, uh-oh, maybe this will be the Kentucky we know in recruiting even without Cal.
Oh, yeah.
I received some promising text messages last night.
I'm with you.
I'd be a little surprised if it ended up being anywhere else.
And remember when Mitch Barnhart stood up on that Sunday and did all those check the boxes for Pope?
The one thing we didn't check was can he recruit and can he get these two hometown kids?
He might lock them both up before September a couple weeks apart, which check the box on recruiting for Pope moving forward.
I know I surprised you, Ryan, when I told you that next day about what I'd heard about him,
but then you kind of got involved in it.
You feel even more confident than I do.
He's going to Kentucky, right?
Yeah, you know, we've talked about it.
I think there were some factors that Kentucky had to overcome.
One was, you know, the previous staff was not really actively recruiting him.
Pope came in recruiting him.
I think the previous NIL offer was a little almost insulting.
I think Kentucky's done a much better job and improved that offer.
I think the fact what happened to Jasper's grandfather, Elvis Johnson, the way he was dismissed how it ended at Kentucky.
I think they had to get past that.
Jasper was a North Carolina fan growing up.
Alabama's been on him for like three years.
I mean, there were a lot of factors to overcome.
But to Pope and his staff's credit, they've done that.
I mean, they've really done a great job.
And perception purposes, they needed to get, you know, Malick-Ka-Marino and Jasper Johnson.
Like you just said, to prove, hey, we're not just here to win games.
We're here to also win the recruiting battle as well.
I'm going to tell you something on this.
Recruiting from Mark Pope at Kentucky is not going to be a problem.
You don't think so.
If you can recruit at BYU and get players to buy in to that, I mean, that's an entire lifestyle.
If you can recruit there, you can recruit at Kentucky.
But to be fair, a devil's advocate would say, well, he never won an NCAA tournament game of BYU.
He never had a first round pick.
I mean, by the way, I think all those things are going to happen here.
But this is a different standard.
Like success at BYU and success at Kentucky are different standards.
This will be important to me.
I still want to see him go and get somebody who's top 15 if he wants them that's not from Kentucky.
But you can't lose the ones from Kentucky.
Kentucky.
Yeah.
Right.
Right.
And the fact that he's got, he's gotten one, and I think he's going to get the other
one, I think is a really big statement.
And I also want to throw out there, somebody texted me this this morning, and I think
it's a good idea.
I don't know how long Vince Merrill wants to be a coach.
I hope he wants to coach here forever, and I hope he wants to recruit here forever.
But whenever he decides he doesn't want to do it, I'm not sure you could have a better
dude to be assistant AD in charge of NIO and recruiting.
Good point.
I'm being serious.
There's not one person in that university that has better relationships with donors than him.
I mean, nobody.
And then you throw in his ability.
I mean, people don't know this.
He'll meet recruits for like volleyball.
I mean, like he, even though he's the football recruiting, he'll meet recruits for every sport.
I hope he wants to coach football forever.
But the day he doesn't, they should, if there's not a role for that, they should create it.
because I think he is as good.
He is the best recruiter of any sport that I have seen at Kentucky.
The only person who is in his realm is Cal.
But he is right there with him in terms of how he does it.
It's just crazy to think a football coach would take a step outside of preseason camp.
Like, y'all go help recruit this number one player on our board?
No problem.
What other football coach in America goes and recruits for their basketball team
right before the season is starting?
You know, to be fair, Cal used to do that.
he would meet with a swimming.
No, no, Cal, until COVID, Cal was the best representative of this university.
He was.
He would meet with recruits of every sport.
He was everywhere.
So, yes, I mean, he and Vince have a lot of similarities.
I don't think they were close.
I also don't think they didn't like each other.
They just, I don't think they ran in the same circle.
But they did have similarities in terms of the way they interacted with people.
And even when all the back and forth was going on between the two sports,
Vince was at basketball games.
I don't know what each side was thinking, but Vince was there.
Vince used to say to me, and I think he said it on this show,
outside of convincing in the thing,
he was like, the best recruiting I have is walking into Rupp Arena
and the crowd clapping for the recruits as they come there and all the,
he said, because there's a lot of kids who come here to visit
who know Kentucky basketball much more than they know Kentucky football.
So I said this on KS Board last night.
everything in UK athletics is better when everyone is on the same page, right?
When the AD, the coach, the programs, the media, the boosters are all on the same page,
this thing runs the best.
There was a point two years ago where not one part of that was on the same page.
The coaching staff, I mean, basketball was not on the same page with Mitch,
with the boosters, with football, they were fighting with football, and with the media.
And they were trying to, like, be that video of, like, one person fighting against an army.
John Snow.
The John Snow, like, everybody's standing there and Cal's just fighting.
Now, everyone's on the same page, and I think if Mark Pope's going to succeed, Drew,
he's been given the best chance you could have to succeed.
Yeah, and if Jasper goes through and picks Kentucky like we're kind of expecting at this point,
it's a big statement to other recruits not from Kentucky
because if you had lost them, if you're looking at UK,
he's like, well, if the guys in the backyard didn't stay, what am I missing?
Now if he adds those two, and I think with the system they're going to play,
guys are going to see a fun brand of basketball.
We'll see how many wins that turns into.
But regardless, there's a lot of people that would love to get them down the court
with a team that's taking 30, 35 threes a game.
So now that he's adding these guys, I think he can just add more to his recruiting prowess
once they can start playing the games.
Well, it's going to be a lot of fun either way.
What's next?
D.W. is next.
W. What's up?
Hey, how's it going, guys?
I was just wondering, Matt, have you got any cool sneakers since you've gotten back from Europe?
How many sneakers were sitting in the bar when I got back?
About a dozen. I'm not exaggerating.
There was like a dozen. I did like the KD. Nerves you opened up this week.
Yeah, I got the new KD Nerves.
I got some Joe Fresh Good, new balances, blue ones that are UK blue, that cost me.
a lot but I like
we used to have boxes piled up
I know you love a month from March I got the dunks it was like the
Philly Dunks you know the Philly City ones that came out a couple months ago
so yeah okay I'll do one of these days I'll get Mario to do a video where we do like a
cribs on the on the sneakers that's good idea all right I appreciate what's the total
cat up to now do you know have you lost track we don't like to talk about those gold
Trump's shoes just made.
So that was interesting.
This guy, one of the booths at the, I appreciate the call, one of the booths at the fair
had all these shoes, and they were like shoes that are hard to find.
And I don't know if I just had a brain fart, but it didn't occur to me that they were fake.
I needed Mario because I was like, how much are these one shoes?
And I know they're normally like $800.
And he was like, $200.
And I was like, Mario, what a deal.
And he just looked at me and goes, they're fake, dude.
Of course.
Or stolen.
It didn't occur to me.
I was like, well, it's in the fair.
Yeah.
Well, the fair might be fake.
But he had the Trump shoes.
I'm sure they were fake, too.
He had like these fake shoes.
From my fake jersey people in China, they have fake shoes, and we bought a pair of Jordans and put them next to the real Jordans.
And you almost, you can't really tell a difference.
You can tell them after you wear them twice.
Yeah.
But I side alone.
It's hard.
Who's up next?
Sully is up next.
Sully.
Go ahead.
Soie. Hey, Matt, fellas. So my buddies and I played in the Lexington Scramble a couple weeks ago. I had an
awesome time. I've just got a quick story. First of all, I was the guy wearing the barstool Coach
K shirt. I hate Coach K. That's a great shirt, by the way. It's Coach K laying on the floor that
one time. Remember when he was all cuddled up in a little ball? I like that shirt.
Thank you. Secondly, I was one of the four that hit the gummy tent on 9.5.
number eight.
And I was the other guy that took one.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, let me say, are they here?
Is that, hang on just a second.
Is that CBD time here?
I don't see them on the list.
I was going to say, if you all end up at the hole with the CBD thing,
cornbread's different than that stuff.
Like that stuff, this dude in his group took it and was asleep.
How, what, two holes?
Yeah, I was just going to say.
So we walk up to the tent.
I don't know what Delta 8 is.
I've had cornbread before, but we're walking away, and the guy's like, hey, do you want a sample?
And so we're walking away.
We're like, sure, we'll take a sample.
So we start opening it, and he yells out, hey, only take one, not two, which I'm glad he said that,
because who knows where we'd ended up, would be to take them both of them.
So we take one.
We take one.
We get about an hour in, my buddy and I look at each other.
We're like, man, I don't feel anything out of this.
about two hours in, I suddenly walked back to the card.
I feel an overwhelming urge just to lay down on the bench and take a nap.
So that was you that passed out in the clubhouse?
No, it was not me.
It was my buddy.
I got it out.
But my legs felt like they weighed 100 pounds.
And our other buddies who golf ones just look up.
And I'd just be driving the golf cart the other direction.
They were like, where is he going?
Yeah, it was.
You all, well, I appreciate the call.
Thank you for playing.
You all, uh, you.
The dude just slept in the clubhouse.
They ended up with a three-man group, shit.
Gotta watch out for those gummies.
Only gummies I take are cornbread hemp.
Did you see the Miami of Ohio coach went in an interview yesterday and said,
Alabama stole our kicker, and I will never forgive them?
He said they illegally stole our kicker.
They were not supposed to get him, and they did.
It was the whineiest interview I've ever seen.
illegally take somebody?
You don't.
They hold them hostage and bring them over?
But it was that mindset
that these coaches still have
that they own these players,
like that the players like, you know,
have to do what they say.
And he was angry.
He was like, Alabama stole my kicker
and I'll never forgive it or forget it.
And I was like, you're at Miami of Ohio.
What are you going to do?
Like, like, you're going to fight them?
Like, what's he going to do?
And today's world, there is no stealing players.
And if you're a kicker,
I got a chance to kick at Miami of Ohio
or a chance to kick at Alabama.
Where are you going?
You're going to Alabama.
By the way, I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
I mean, here's what I'd ask Miami of Ohio coach.
If Alabama offered you a job, you're going to take it?
Of course he would.
You think you're going to turn down the Alabama head coaching job to stay at Miami of Ohio?
No, you're not.
So if you're not going to do it, why do you expect him to do it?
Amen.
Like, to me, the best thing, I mean, look, as a fan, it's hard to see guys come and go,
but the best thing about the portal is imagine your,
a dad or mom and you have a kid, do you not want your kid to be able to seek the highest dream
that they can seek?
And nowadays, you can come out of high school.
Let's say you grew up at, you know, Otwell, Indiana, and nobody recruited you.
You have the ability now to go to a college, move up, and by the time you're done, be like
Antonio Reeves.
You know, Antonio Reeves was ranked, what, 350th in the country?
He goes to Illinois State because nobody else wants him.
then he ends up at Kentucky.
He's a third team All-American, and he signs a three-year deal with the Pelicans.
I mean, that's the American dream right there.
I mean, that's the American dream, and that does not happen, Drew, without the transfer portal.
He probably stays at Illinois State, never really gets a chance and is playing overseas.
Yeah, I know it's a lot more work for the coaches having to keep their guys,
but just think about basketball.
You name Antonio Reeves, but the best players in the SEC last year all came from smaller schools.
Yeah, Dalton Connect.
And you want the best players to do the best teams for the first teams for the
overall product. The Miami
coach interview was funny, though, because they weren't even really
talking about that. He hijacked the interview. He's like, why
do you in the media just not say what it is? They stole
him, and the guy just sat there not knowing what to
say at all. He was going on quite a rent.
Tell me about Stock to Mortgage. They're here. They're going to be playing in the
golf scramble today, so our good friends are going to be out on
the golf course. If you're thinking about doing a refinance or thinking about
buying a new home, just go over, walk over to them and talk to them. They've got
their stock to mortgage on their shirt. They'll talk to you about it.
It's easy to apply online. They're easy to work
with. If you're thinking about doing like maybe building a new deck on the back of your house,
maybe a new pool, they can do that for you as well with the home equity line of credit,
Stockton Mortgage, NMLS, 8259, Equal Housing Lender.
I had a question that I want you to think about during the break and let's do an answer.
One person writes, Matt, besides Jefferson County, what is the most pro-U-of-L county in Kentucky
and what is the most pro-U-K county? What county would have the most percentage of people cheering for
Kentucky and what county would have the most percentage of people cheering for Louisville.
Let's leave Fayette and Jefferson out.
Figure out that answer and we'll deal with it right after this.
It's KSR.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-28027. All right. So in the state of Kentucky,
what county, Austin Horn of the Herald leader, former KSR intern, he asked,
what county outside of Jefferson County has the most percentage of Louisville,
fans my answer and like you all in this room would probably know this better than most my answer
is bullet county probably would you agree with that i don't know i mean i know a lot of people in
bullet county and they all for the most part are kentucky fans but that's just for people i know the
other option to me would be oldham county that was what i was going to say i was going to say yeah
you think you think old i think oldham county yeah it's got to be a surrounding county has to be a
surrounding county.
So I think in Oldham County's got all those people that are so rich that they just donate to the Louisville's at school.
I'm going to say, even though I feel like the least L's down place is Oldham County.
Yeah, the folks that live here but go and work at Louisville.
Are we in Oldham County now?
No, is this Louisville or Oldham County?
This is Oldham County.
So where we are right now?
So I think we're doing a scramble in the most Louisville.
Although I still think there's more Kentucky fans in Oldham County than Louisville fans.
I do think there's the most.
Now, this one's harder.
What county do you think has the largest percentage of Kentucky fans?
So let me give you my mindset.
First of all, it can't be a border county because if it is, you're going to have some fans of the other teams bleeding in.
So like in Bell County, where I grew up, the vast majority of people are Kentucky fans,
but there are some Tennessee fans that find their way in there because you're on the border.
Like Pike County, there are West Virginia fans there.
In Boyd County, there are some West Virginia fans.
And you get up to Northern Kentucky, you'll find some Ohio State or Cincinnati fans.
So what is the county where if you went to it, you would not find a fan of another team?
I've got two, and I can't make my mind pick which one.
I'm going to go Woodford County.
You know what?
I was going to say Woodford County.
Yeah. I think Woodford County is a good, because a lot of those people that live in Woodford County,
work in Lexington, went to UK.
Do you think there's any other team that has a presence in Woodford County?
I mean, maybe there might be a couple Louisville fans there, but not many.
I think Louisville, I think Woodford County is a good answer.
But the other one, I was thinking more kind of in the mountains where they're kind of isolated,
and Clay County came to mind.
Yep.
And you got the Richie.
You know what?
I like Clay County County.
That's a good answer.
Because of Richie, I would be really surprised.
if there are fans of schools not Kentucky.
I like Clay County as an answer.
I think that's a really good answer.
I think Richie would make them move if they were there.
And Clay County is separated enough from Tennessee
that there's probably not any Tennessee fans there.
And unlike, see, where I grew up, the TV stations were all Knoxville.
I bet Clay County gets Lexington Television, so they probably...
Richie has chombed in.
What's he said?
Richie says Franklin County.
Oh, no, there's Louisville fans at Franklin County.
Because you've got government workers, some of whom might come from Louisville and work there.
I'm going to say...
Before you said don't pick a border, you know, border county, Harlan came to mind for me.
Harlan's got a handful of Tennessee fans, though.
Because, again, in Bell County and Harlem, we get Knoxville television stations.
It makes a difference.
And it does make a difference because you just see Tennessee stuff all the time.
I had two come to mind.
One was Clay because I feel like if you put on another hat, you're going to get your ass kicked.
And then for some reason, this is probably the number one answer, but anytime we go to Somerset,
it just feels like the whole town bleeds blue.
So I'll add Pulaski.
You're from Somerset, right?
Are there are there fans of other teams in Somerset?
The people that moved.
Yeah, bringing your boat down for a weekend.
See, that's why Pulaski doesn't win is all those Ohio boat people have moved.
Ohio Navy they call it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I don't think it can win.
There's too many Ohio boat people in Wayne County.
and Pulaski County and all that.
So if you all know, 772, 7754, who's next?
James is up next.
James, what's up, James?
Hey, how you doing, guys?
Doing good.
Can you hear me?
Good.
Yes.
So you guys got back from the state fair?
No, we're still there.
Yes, James, we did.
We did.
Oh, okay.
Cool.
So, uh,
How many fun cases do you guys have?
Say that again, sir.
How many funnels do you guys have?
Oh, we didn't have any.
You got anything for us, James?
Well, actually, yeah.
I was just listening to you guys were talking about border counties.
I live in Elkhorn City, which is Pike County,
is right on the Virginia state line.
I have to argue with you about your state
that I hardly ever have been in the West Virginia.
So do you have any...
Do you think there are any fans of other colleges in Pike County except Kentucky?
No.
Well, see, but you've got a college.
You've got a college there.
So there's going to be people who've moved from other places to go.
So, like, I mean, I think you've got a college there.
Yeah, you're talking to you, Pike, but, you know,
that's really a small, you know, small, as far as Kentucky sports, college sports, it's mainly
UK.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, thank you, James.
I do think, though.
I can count 10 people.
Well, I hope you could count 10 people.
Kentucky fans or we're not going to win.
Well, I appreciate the call.
I just, I forgot about the college, because you're going to have professors that are from
other places that live there, et cetera.
So I don't think a, I don't think a college town can be it back to Claycats.
That's quick to cross off Owensboro.
Anywhere that has a school.
Anywhere that has a college is going to have people that are from other places.
And the Pipeville Medical Center, they get doctors from all over the place.
So, yeah, I think you're right.
Yeah.
Yeah, 859-280-2287.
We got the cornbread hemp guys.
Well, I was going to say they were sitting right there.
They're back there.
Cornbread hemp.
They're going to have a hole out here on the course.
You can try their cornbread hemp gummies.
They help you sleep, help you relax.
I didn't take them to Europe.
And it just, you know, you didn't sleep as thoroughly.
It was good, but like I missed him.
I even called Jim at one point and said, is there something like cornbread hemp here?
And he said, I don't know.
I've not been to grease, so I didn't decide to take their homemade remedies.
But cornbread hip.com, promo code KSR 30% off.
Check it out.
It is cornbread hip.
We'll take a break.
Be right back here at the Kentucky Sports Radio Golf Scrap.
Back, Tegie Sports Radio here live.
KSR Golf Scramble.
This is the exact point in the tournament.
every time where the crowd they start eating, they start going to the driving range.
We always lose the crowd about 1130.
That's all right.
I'm used to that.
It's okay.
Everybody listening at home, we're still here.
Salseritas brought me a literally a glass of queso that you could like drink.
And this is the biggest bag of chips I've ever seen in my life.
I don't think I can eat all of these.
I can help you.
But I will say, Saucerita's queso is the best.
And they're chips.
It's just so good. It actually is really, really good.
Are you going to chug that?
Just in a cup.
I don't think I'm going to chug it.
Another county that somebody mentioned with a lot of Louisville fans, I think this is good, is Hardin County.
A lot of Louisville fans have drifted there in E-Town for drives.
I actually think Hardin County is a good one along with Oldham for having a decent amount of Louisville fans.
Elizabethtown is now the fastest-growing city in Kentucky for larger cities, so I can see a lot of people maybe
I'll make your prediction.
In 10 years,
Elizabetown's going to be like
our fourth or fifth biggest city in Kentucky.
Yeah.
Because of all those battery plants
and everything that's going there, I think E-Town
is going to end up being...
Heck, that plant by itself is going to end up.
I mean, that plant is absurd.
That thing is absolutely massive.
859-2-80-2287.
High school games.
Week 1 tonight.
Let's go.
Ryan Lemon's going to pick our...
Ryan Lemon's going to give us the
five best games this weekend. What do we got? Well, the best game tonight is a rematch of the
6A state championship game. Louisville Trinity at Bryan Station. They played for the state title last
year. They opened the season tonight playing each other. Trinity won last time, right? Yep.
I'm picking Bryan Station. I don't like Trinity. You guys all picking? Yeah, no, I'm picking
Trinity. I think Trinity beats them again. I beat them last year. They're going to beat them again.
I'm going with Station. And it's amazing how Station has been good when Douglas moves next door and just
tries to take all the players.
And Brian Station said, we're not going anywhere.
We're going to compete, too.
I know Trinity's going to win, but if it's public versus private,
I'm taking the public high school all the time.
Give me Brian Station.
Okay, there's a couple, like these are like rivalry games for to be week one,
and the favorite team will be the visiting team.
So I'm going to give you both of them.
You pick it.
Owensbrook Catholic's probably got the best quarterback in the state.
He may win Mr. Football.
What's his name?
Atwell.
Atwell.
Where's he going to school?
I don't know if he's committed yet, but he plays at Owensbrook Catholic.
He's really good.
They play at Apollo.
rivalry game right off the bat.
I'm going to take Owensboro Catholic.
Those are both private schools, aren't they?
No, they're both.
Apollo's a public school.
Owensboro Catholic is not a private school.
Then I'll take Apollo.
I'm taking public school.
That's what I do.
I've got to take the private school.
I'm going to Winsborough Catholic.
I'm still mad at Apollo over a golf rivalry.
I'll never pick them in anything.
Go Catholic.
The other one is Mayfield, always a 2A power,
at Graves County, the big school,
the county school they're both in the same county
they've got a pop here they should
they did get a pop hey I have a soft spot
in my heart for Mayfield after all they've been through
so I will pick Mayfield and they're always good
I will pick Mayfield easily I agree I'm going
Mayfield on this one it's a championship town
I'm going with Mayfield too
now Corbyn tomorrow night there are two games
and like one of these big showcases
Pikeville plays Corbin
in one of those that's a two big country
Yes, it is.
I'm going Pikeville.
I feel like they, since the guy got mad at me for saying they weren't all Kentucky fans,
I need to win the Pike County's back, so I will take Pikeville.
Plus, they hosted us before that.
For a high school stadium, they have, like, the most insane,
smallest high school stadium in the state, so I'll take Pikeville.
They had the LED lights before Kentucky got them.
Yes, they did.
They had LED lights at Pikeville before UK.
Corbyn.
Where did you say this game is?
It's at Corbyn.
All right.
They're hosting it.
This is going to be a close one, so I'm just rolling with the home team for
the atmosphere. I'm going to take Pikeville in this one, on the road. Do you have a pick? You haven't
picked any of these. I'm picking Corbin. You don't beat Corbin at Corbyn.
I'll go to the depot first, walk on over. And the second game of the doubleheader is Pulaski
County versus Beachwood, another 2A perennial power, but Pulaski County's been one of the best
4-A-S schools and 5-A-Schools lately. I'll take Pulaski County. What are they? The purples?
Maroons. Maroons. Okay. One of those colors. That's close. Purple and maroons pretty
close. I'll take Pulaski.
I'm sodden with the maroons. I'm a maroon
through and through in high school athletics.
Is nobody going to pick Beachwood? I guess
I'll take Beachwood. All right, there you go.
There's our five games of the week. We did not
include Frederick Douglas because Ryan knows
they're going to lose and he doesn't want to have to
face it. Bowling Green. In his
world. Did you see, Shannon? I know you all
talked about this on the pre-show, but we didn't talk about
it here. Chick-fil-A has announced
they're going to start a streaming TV
service. I don't quite understand this
or what it's going to be. I mean, I know it's a streaming service.
but what's going to be on Chick-fil-A TV?
It said family-friendly game shows and television.
So, Nickelodeon.
No, I think it's going to be more like, I bet it's more like church stuff.
It'll be a Christian theme.
It'll be more like, yeah, Christian game shows, like Bible.
It would be basically Baby Billy's Bible bonkers.
And every advertisement's Chick-fil-A.
That's true.
They just only advertise KFC on Chick-Fillet TV.
There's a part of me that wants to say, though, you know what?
Chick-fil-A, you know what?
Filet, you're really good at the chicken?
Yeah.
Focus on that.
I had Chick-fil-A yesterday.
Just focus on that.
I don't know that streaming is.
That's got to cost a ton of money, I would think.
Yeah, and, I mean, what if it's a Sunday afternoon?
Does it work or do they turn it off?
Is it just a six-day subscription?
Oh, see, you don't think they do any programming on Sunday?
Who had woke up on a Sunday?
Like, honey, chick-fil-A, and then you're let down.
What if I want to watch season two of my pleasure, and then it's Sunday, and they don't have it on.
That's great.
Streaming service with no Sunday programming.
I like that.
I think it's a stretch for a fast food.
I do, too.
Even though they're good at it to try to get in the TV.
What restaurant would you watch their streaming service the least?
Burger King?
Well, I mean, I don't know.
I would watch a long John Silver streaming service.
What's going on on that channel?
I don't know.
Fishing?
Fish, just fishing shows.
Who's next?
Bill Dance over and over.
What do you got?
I love it.
Rick, Rick.
Dude, Rick.
You never know what Rick's going to laugh at.
Rick just love Bill dance.
All right, go ahead.
Good stuff.
Josh is next.
Josh, go ahead.
Hey, guys.
This is Josh from Ohio County.
It was a pleasure to meet you guys yesterday and cool to find out that my dad was actually
Ryan Lemon's first boss when he worked there in TV in Owensboro.
Yep.
But my question for you today is that Coach Pope being at that Farm Bureau breakfast yesterday,
I had heard a board director's members say that they'd never seen Coach Cow.
Is that kind of indication of how Coach Pope gets it a little more than maybe Cal did?
Well, here's what I would say to you.
Everybody see the picture of the $10 million ham with Joe and Kelly and Vince and Mark Pope?
I think that was the $10 million celebration of the fact that all those folks had something to do with the recruit we're probably going to get next week.
I mean, here's what I think is going to be the difference in the Mark Pope era.
Cal went to a lot of that stuff.
I don't know if he went to the handbreakfast, but he went to a lot of stuff.
I don't think you can say Cal wasn't involved in the community.
But I think Mark Pope, just like Vince Merrow, understands the role in the modern college basketball
and college sports that boosters are going to play.
And I was not surprised to see that picture have those guys in it.
I mean, they had Joe, it had Kelly, it had Mark Pope, it had Vince Merrill, and it had Oscar Sheeboe.
And like, if you had told me to guess who will be the three guests of the crafts at that thing?
I would have guessed those three people.
That would be exactly who I guessed.
And I don't think it's a coincidence.
And I think there will be, you know, we just got to be honest, folks.
We've got to be honest.
Like, Joe and Kelly in the last six months have kept a lot going to be.
until stuff can get going in terms of players like you know people have strong opinions
about politics I couldn't be more different than them in politics but I still like them
both a lot but whatever you think of politics Joe and Kelly are a big reason Kentucky is
going to be competitive in both sports this year they are a big reason and Drew I think those
coaches know that and I think that's why you see them at events like that far the like the
breakfast yesterday yeah I think you'll see them at anything the craft
are doing and want them to be a part of.
And it's, N. I.L. even goes back to Oscar.
They were a big part in him coming back for another year that shows how close they are,
that, you know, Oscar's now a member of the Utah Jazz, and here he is the Kentucky State Fair
hanging out as they bid on a $10 million ham.
Well, I mean, look, you know, Oscar's not back here for a second year, if it's not for them.
Like, I just, I don't think people realize what a massive role they have played.
There are others, too.
I don't mean to leave them out.
I don't, some of those people probably don't want their names mentioned, but there
are others too but there are people i won't say but there are players on the football and basketball team
that would not be here if it was not for those two people and so you will see the coaches with them
i think the coaches should be with them every time i post a picture of them there are comments from
people on my side politically complain about it my answer to you would be get over it because if you
want to be good at sports they are a big part of the reason ryan why we are good i don't give
a rat's ass about their politics.
I could care, I could not
care less what politics they are.
I'm a Kentucky Wildcat fan.
They are Kentucky Wildcat fan.
We're on the same page with them if you're a fan.
If you were doing the five most
important people in Kentucky
sports right now,
let's combine them as one person.
There's no doubt they're on the list.
And they might be a lot
higher than people realize on the list
in terms of it working. Both practice
facilities are named after them. Football's and basketball.
This is not just what they're doing in NIA.
The buildings are there because of them.
Well, that's, I don't think Vince necessarily would still be here if it wasn't for the.
I mean, like, you know, so 859-2-8027.

We'll take a break and be right back.

And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live.
Final segment, KSR Golf Scream.
We'll go be a great day.
This might, we have great weather for Lexington.
Looks like it's going to be great weather
for today.
You know, we still got some spots for the one in Somerset.
If you want to play, that's in September sometime, right?
Yep, Monday, the 16th-ish, maybe.
Something like that.
And then, of course, after that, you've got to do next year.
So make sure you get in because it's always one of my favorite days of the year.
I actually was, I'm supposed to be in Aspen for the fellowship for the Dork Camp,
and I told him I'm coming a day later because I got to do this.
Do you fly out tonight or you fly out tomorrow?
I'll crack a dawn tomorrow out of Cincinnati.
So, oh, well.
Stop overpaying for sunglasses.
If you're tired of buying expensive sunglasses, only to lose or break them,
go to Shady Rays, an independent American-owned company.
Start right here in Kentucky, premium polarized shades.
They're out here on the course.
I think every group will have a chance.
One person in your group will win Shady Rays today as part of your thing.
Use the code KSR for 50% off, two or more payers at Shady Rays at Fritz Farm in Lexington
or at Oxmoor here in Louisville.
Shadyrays and Shadyrays.com.
Don't forget the code, KSR.
We ran out at KS Bar of the Kentucky Blue Light NIL beer,
but they gave a new shipment today.
I'm telling you, that's going to end up being one of the best ideas that Kentucky's had.
I mean, we sold out multiple kegs in Monday through Thursday,
which is normally, you know, not the fastest time.
This weekend we'll have it.
It is $3 cans, I think, $4 pints, but the money goes to NIL,
and then it'll be regular price starting next week.
And next week, it'll be in more places.
Like right now, it's kind of NRs and a handful of grocery stores.
I think it'll be in more places, Ryan, starting next week.
A lot of people have come by KS. Bark, I think there's just anxious to try it.
Just kind of try it out.
And sign up for the beer for a year.
Yeah, what are you doing if you're not doing that?
You're doing it.
Somebody's going to win, like, beer for a year, but you've got to sign the iPad.
So don't forget to sign the iPad.
Although people have been going in there, they're just like, I'm here to pay the players.
and they get their beer.
We're all paying players.
In some ways, I guess we are paying players.
Feels like, though, that's worth a minute of your time to sign up for beer for a year.
It's quite a reward just to sign up.
No, tomorrow, Florida State and Georgia Tech kick off the college football season in Dublin, Ireland.
Let's go through the major conferences really quick, and you pick me a winner of the major conferences.
Who's winning the SEC, Ryan?
Georgia.
Georgia.
Georgia.
Yeah.
I'm going to take Georgia.
in every conference I'm going to give you a team to watch for.
A team that's going to finish 10 and 2 probably is Missouri.
Not because I think they're great.
Just go look at their schedule.
They don't play anybody.
They go at Alabama and then they go at Oklahoma, I think.
But like every other team they play stinks.
They really should go 10 and 2.
Their non-conference stinks and then they drew all the worst teams in the SEC.
We talked about this on Faye this.
Missouri is not going to win the SEC, but I think Missouri has a really good chance to go to the playoff.
Yeah, they're just outside the top 10.
They have the best wide receiver in the country and his quarterback coming back.
So I expect big things for them.
I just wish the SEC had taken our schedule in Missouri's and kind of shaking it up a little bit.
If you want to know how much schedule is going to matter, go look at Missouri's schedule
and ask yourself what Kentucky's record would be if we played that schedule.
I think we'd go into the season thinking we could win 10.
Eight could be a floor.
Yeah, I mean, like, their schedule is so much easier than ours this year.
I don't know how it ended up like that.
Big Ten, Shannon.
Michigan.
Oh, wow, that's an upset pick.
I'll go Ohio State.
Yeah, Ohio State.
I think Michigan's going to be down a little bit.
Ohio State will finally get back on top.
I'm going with Ohio State, too.
I think Michigan actually will be down.
The sleeper pick for me, and I got yelled at on ESPN Radio for saying it,
and you all know I hate this team, but it goes.
Again, if you look at their schedule, they can have a good year as Nebraska.
Nebraska actually has a pretty easy schedule for the Big Ten,
so I think they're kind of a sleeper team to be challenging for the playoff.
ACC.
Hate to say it, but I think it's Louisville this year.
I think they're going to have a good team.
What?
What do you mean?
You think Louisville's going to win the ACC?
I think they will, yeah.
Please boo him real quick.
Who this man?
Hey.
I thought he said there wasn't any Louisville fans in Bullitt County.
You know what?
There are Louisville fans in Bullitt County.
I'm not a Louisville fan.
You ask me who do I think is going to win, not who I want to.
And I'll boo all of you when they do it.
What do you got?
Florida State went undefeated last year and won the title,
so I'm going to pick them to win it again.
Got the Seminole's also.
My sleeper team in the conference is also going to be my pick for the conference.
The U is back.
Uh-oh.
Miami.
Again, go look at their schedule.
They play at Florida in the first week.
But after that, their games are all easy,
and they actually host Florida State.
So that game is in Miami.
So I'm actually going to take Miami to win the ACC.
Finally, Big 12.
I challenge you to even know who's in the Big 12 right now.
But who you got?
Let's see, Dion and Colorado are in the Big 12, I believe, right?
Don't pick them.
Arizona.
That's actually not a crazy pick.
Arizona's good this year.
I'm impressed you could do that one.
Another easy schedule, too.
They have a very easy schedule.
I would have no idea.
Texas Tech, Utah.
Go with Texas Tech.
That would be good because they might come in last.
Okay, we'll go with Texas Tech.
They might be the worst team in the conference.
So, okay.
Utah, I think, is the favorite, and they're probably going to be the one.
But I'm taking Arizona, for what I just said.
I'm actually surprised.
I thought I was going to have the surprise pick, and Shannon took it from me.
So I'm going with Arizona.
My one, again, I don't, if you listen to Fade this, I say this all the time.
Go look at the schedule.
Kansas State.
Kansas State plays all the good teams at home.
They don't really have a tough night.
non-conference game.
I think you're going to see Kansas State and Miami in the playoff, maybe Missouri as well this
year.
How weird is it to say Utah and Arizona in a conversation about the Big 12th?
Who's up next?
Kyle is up next.
Kyle, go ahead, Kyle.
Hey, I'm actually calling from this battery plan outside of Utah that you guys are talking about.
Oh, that's very cool.
Well, good.
Yeah.
But no, I was going to ask you if you've got time today, I don't know, but can you kind of
explain and digest the or dissecting?
the college football playoff, like the layout, the schedule.
Yeah, so the layout is there's 12 teams.
The weekend before Christmas, the 20th and 21st, there'll be four games,
five versus 12, six versus 11, et cetera.
Those games will be on the home campuses of the higher ranked team.
So the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth ranked teams will get a home game.
Then the next round is the weekend after Christmas.
and those games will be bowl games.
So they'll be like the peach bowl,
Chick-fil-A bowl, whatever.
And then it's like the normal semifinals and finals.
The first round, though, will be on college campuses.
The top four conferences are guaranteed one team in the other conferences,
the little conferences, whoever has the highest ranking
of the little conference teams they're in two,
and then seven wild cards.
So somebody could potentially play 16 games this year.
They have a conference chance.
Yes, there will be teams that will play 16 games this year.
Yes.
So there's no buys?
Like it's an, the top four seeds have buys.
So teams five through 12 play in the first round, top four seeds have buys to the quarterfinals.
Awesome.
All right, thanks.
And also we get a football podcast this week, KSR football podcast.
We will, yes.
Monday.
Monday.
Max Duffy's going to be on it this year.
Pinet Deep is joining KSR Football.
So thank you very much.
A couple things next week.
Next week I'm in Aspen for this Aspen Institute Fellowship.
I'm hoping to be on for the first beginning of the show every day.
Hopefully I'll have service, but we're up in the mountains.
So hopefully I'll be on for at least a segment or two next week.
Either way, I'll be back for the game on Saturday.
Thank you all very much.
We will see you next week.
This is me at Kentucky Sports Radio.
live from the KSR Golf Script.
