All right, welcome in.
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Kentucky Sports Radio, Tuesday, August 27th.
Going to be a hot one out there today, Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin, and Shannon the dude, and joined this morning by Max the Duffy.
How about that?
Max the Duffy's going to join Shannon Beddood.
Max the Duffy.
Max the Duffy.
That's the new nickname.
Might as well.
We call him coach these days.
We're going to get into that.
He and I've been talking a lot of high school football already.
So, of course, Connecticut's the radio sponsored every day by the T.J. Smith Law Office called T.J. Shannon.
He'll make them pay.
No, no.
Pay, not play.
Yeah.
Get in there.
Get out the bench.
He might make them play.
Yeah.
We'll have your Whiskey Thief Song of the Day.
Our Don Franklin, Colin.
holiday and our Kentucky branded tweet or text of the day and you can call us on the Clark's
Publishout phone number 859 2802-287 so Max the Duffy look first of all look at look what
somebody left us here at KS Bar and Grill last night that's Matt's hat isn't it's a
dukeye a Duke cat doing in here they left it on the podium last night I was here last I had dinner
here last night I didn't see anybody with a duke cat on intentionally or like they're
coming back for it well throw it away it was meant to be a gag gift I kind of feel like
Max is on to something I think they wanted to give it to Matt
since he is a Duke graduate.
Yeah.
It's good to be here, by the way.
Thank you very much for having me,
while Matt's taking his little Virgin Islands trip.
Well, we like to call it Dork Camp.
He sent us a text this morning, Drew,
said he can't join us this morning.
Dork Camp was starting early this morning.
The Dorks are up very early.
You know, Colorado, it's even earlier than what time is in there?
Eight, seven, something like that.
Yeah.
So the Dorks are, they rise and shine,
getting busy reading their books and doing their plays.
Push it and pulling.
Yeah, all those things.
Now, you mentioned, I didn't know this, they are doing some sort of play at Dork Camp.
Yeah, I don't know if he kept that under wraps, but he told me that they were doing a play.
They had to execute, what execute, is that the right word, act out a play together as all the dorks.
And he told me he was going to try and take a back seat and not get a prominent role.
But if we know Matt, he wants to be the star and he's probably going to be Hamlet or whoever the play's about, which we need to get video of this.
We need to get footage.
Yeah, that's my thing, man.
And we got to see Matt acting.
If we can get a conestalions type person for KSR to sneak in there and take some film, that would be great.
Maybe we'll all get a list of whoever's in this secret society and we'll split it up and we'll all reach out to them privately and say we need video of this play you're putting on.
Because if history tells us anything, Matt has a way of making video sometimes disappear, Drew.
He does. Some things disappear.
Let's say me and Shannon roasted him.
Yeah.
And it was supposed to go on DVD.
What would happen to that video?
I think it got buried.
destroy the tape. I hope whatever his play is is a ballet.
Oh, that is true. You know, you guys did your YMCA village people thing on the
Alaskan cruise. Yeah, I might have, I have some still photography.
I do too. I've got some pictures. I don't have video.
Also, his dancing with the stars appearance, I think I could dig that up off an old computer.
And he sings pretty regularly on here, so if it's a musical, he's obviously got the voice for it.
But, you know, maybe they had some early reading this morning, the Aristotle reading,
again this morning or something at Dork Camp that he was not able to make it.
But it is kind of good you're here, Max the Duffy, because Mark Stoop spoke to the media yesterday,
had his first coach's show last night.
What was the big, was there a big headline-grabbing thing that he said yesterday?
No, you know, Stoops, he's not going to give us too many headlines, especially week of the game.
He kept it pretty simple.
We did get the depth chart, not the death chart, the depth chart.
The depth chart.
Don't want the death chart.
We reacted that on air a little bit, but skipped over a few things.
As far as the main positions, there weren't many surprises.
But special teams just have people up in arms.
It's perfect.
Max is here.
I know.
Special teams controversies.
Yeah, our boy, Aidan Leros, the punter from South Africa.
We've been talking like he's just going to walk in and have the job.
Some people that have seen the open scrimmages over there have just talking about he's been booming it.
And then it comes out and stoops.
It was an oar on the depth chart yesterday morning.
been last night on Stoops' calling show.
He said it's Wilson Barry's job.
Another year of Wilson Barry and Aidan Leros is the second punter.
So just a lot of confusion because we've heard nothing but good things over there.
And then this happens.
I guess Max might know more than anyone.
So what's going on?
What's the story?
Confused as anyone, having talked to enough people and seeing the South African man punt himself,
I'm very, very confused.
I'm not exactly sure what's going on, to be fair.
But, you know, maybe they just trust Wilson that's played for him before.
But I don't know.
I'm kind of unsure on what I can and can't say on here.
But to me, Aiden is Aidan.
You're in the tree.
You can say whatever you want here.
You're surprised.
You can say that.
I'm very surprised.
I thought Aden's was streets ahead of Wilson.
And maybe they're just not sure how to use him.
I am honestly baffled why he's not starting.
There are a lot of ores that could just be motivation things.
I think Dumas Johnson's an oar.
We know he's not.
My prediction will just be that after week one or week two, that'll be changed.
That's what I was going to ask you.
Do you think maybe just this is the first game, it's an opponent you should handle,
let Wilson get some kicks in, and then bring in the new guy after that?
It's even more reason to start Aiden and let him start out against a weaker opponent.
Maybe we only punt once, or hopefully we don't punt against Southern Miss.
Maybe that's the thing.
Maybe they're trying to throw South Carolina off.
They're saying Wilson's our punter, knowing we're not punting this week, then Aiden comes in against South Carolina.
Also, maybe there's some gamemanship going on.
Stoops is good at that.
Stoops is good at that.
Because that's what coaches for the other teams would be worried about.
Who's punning for Kentucky?
That's always what they're worried about.
So, no, I'm very confused, and we'll see how long it lasts.
There are some backup oars.
Cutter Bowley's an oar with Gavin Wimson.
You know, I don't know if that's a huge deal,
but just seeing it on there that suggests that cutter's been playing well.
Earned that ore.
Yes.
Where's Moonhead Allen?
Where's Bo?
I think they call him Boe in the official documents.
This is just the Too Deep.
He didn't make the Too Deep, but I'm sure Bo's doing fine over there.
Have you had any contact with Bo?
You got any Bo's scoop?
No, I've talked to Bo every now and then.
He said he was loving being back in Lexington and enjoying himself.
Obviously not enjoying himself too much on the practice field if he hasn't made the depth chart.
But I did say he was holding the other day in the KSR simulation games.
That was kind of interesting.
But yeah, shout out to Bo.
You're talking about Holder, the snapper.
That's another controversy.
Who knew we were so good.
We have two snappers battling out.
And we have a long snapper and a short snapper, both listed separately.
But Alex McLaughlin beat out Walker, Hymabok, I believe.
how you pronounce it? National news, national news.
That was all over the SEC. We thought him about
this guy's great, but then McLaughlin
comes in from Illinois, I think, and
is stolen the snapper job.
Hey, always good to have competition as special teams
though in all seriousness, because, you know,
maybe we've been down in the last few years.
You know, we had some snapping issues for a while. We had some
kicking issues for a while. We had some holding issues.
Had some punting issues last year, although we've decided
they weren't an issue, apparently.
So it's good to have some depth
and it's good that we've got, you know, plenty of
guys that are capable to step up.
Now, our snapper last year, remember, he got hurt.
So you had to use your second snapper.
So having two snappers, maybe that's something they're going to go with moving forward.
Maybe, maybe.
We have done the whole long-snapper, short-snapper thing in the past.
But, yeah, it's too much special teams talk already, I think.
Let's focus on some real positions.
You don't want to talk about how our backup kicker, Jacob Cowway, is booming 60-yarders?
You know, Alex Raynor missed like one last year.
It's got some U.K. records, and he's feeling pressure.
behind him. Hey, here's the thing, though, in all seriousness, that is a, that is something to look for this year.
We need a long field goal to win a game, Ryan. We've got a guy that can boot it from 60.
So that's going to be kind of, like, that'll be cool to watch because rain is very good inside 45, maybe maximum 50.
Now we've got a guy that can kick that long one. We don't even need to move the ball.
We can just start kicking field goals from the other side of the field.
I heard Stoops actually talk about this yesterday. He said they've had three 60-yard field goals in game situations with the ones versus the ones, and this kid made all three of them.
It's very impressive and very exciting for the future too for UK.
That's a good recruiting get.
So is he the kick-off guy, the guy with the stronger league?
I declared Aiden the starting punter and he didn't get that.
And I'm now declaring him the starting kickoff guy.
So I don't want to double jinx him, but Aiden is supposed to be the starting-up.
Oh, he's supposed to not only be the punter but also the kickoff guy, the South African dude.
At UT Martin, he did all three.
He kicked off and punted.
So I'm, yeah, I'm hoping he gets that kickoff job and I want to jinx him again.
I don't want you going for O for two.
He'll be selling hot dogs if you keep giving him starting job.
getting them wrong. Well, you know, in the
stoops and special teams, in the past, they've never had somebody
double, well, they have, but not in recent years,
have a separate kickoff guy, a separate field go guy, a separate
punter. Very specialized positions.
Yeah. And separate long snappers now.
Separate long snappers now. Everyone just got their own lane
and doing their own job. It's fantastic.
To wrap up the depth chart talk,
because it's nerded out a little bit.
But another interesting thing was it running back,
Jason Patterson, the true freshman, beat out
Wilcox, who kind of has a lot of potential.
It's already been here a year for, I guess, in this scenario,
it's the second running back, but really the third when Chip comes back.
You know, we talked about that this summer when we had heard that Patterson is, like,
legit, going to be a stud.
And he was really impressed in everybody, like, in early workout.
So now with Chip train him out, you know, he's going to get more touches,
obviously this first week and maybe earn even some more touches down the season.
Yeah, that's a player that he committed to Cincinnati.
And they stole him.
I don't know if it says a lot about how good he's doing or what Wilcox is
not doing because they thought very highly of Wilcox, who already has a year under his belt,
but Patterson was listed as the second running back.
All right, so there is your football geek, dork, death chart breakdown.
Dane's in his normal spot.
You're aware.
Normal spot, catching touchdowns.
That's his normal spot.
Touchdown catch.
We'll take your calls as well.
859-2802-287.
It's our Clark's Pumping Shop phone number.
Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Max the Duffy in here.
You guys did your first football podcast yesterday right here at the studio, right?
I've been doing a lot of yapping at this table right now.
We did two podcasts.
Oh, we did two podcasts?
And it wasn't working, so then we had to start it up again.
Yeah, we made the old mistake of didn't try the new format.
We just thought we'd go for it without a little test.
And what we'd get about 15, 20 minutes in and it didn't work.
Had to redo everything?
Yeah, so it got a lot of practice.
But everyone check it out.
The second version's great.
It's on YouTube.
It's on KSR.
It's on Apple Podcast.
You can find it.
But we did about an hour of preview in the season.
So the first 15 minutes was it live on YouTube?
Yeah, so anyone was there.
That's a bonus episode.
That's where we had our best stuff.
Yeah.
We leaked all the information.
Yeah, Max had all kinds of crazy stoop stories.
That's just gone.
If you're either there, you won't.
That's another reason to watch live.
That's watch it live.
Yeah, you always get it.
And are you also doing the Pennett Deep podcast?
We're not, no, not this year.
Somebody asked us a couple questions about that.
Yeah, no, not this year.
I've joined the Dark Side and going with all the older guys.
And they got rid of the youth at KSR,
and they just want to keep it nice and old and make sure no one's taken over.
Then we'll take your call.
A lot of calls today.
Like I said, this is game week, man.
It's time to start talking some smart.
It's time to start talking some smart.
Give us your predictions.
and see what you have to think about
what the team's going to do this year.
So give us a call, 859,
280, 2-287,
Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Max the Duffy.
We were right back.

And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,
or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows.
Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted.
this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like
Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on
the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some
playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court,
licking his fingers why he got the bar like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the
court and you're going to get the ball.

All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan Drew, Shannon, the dude, and Max the Duffy here at KS. Bar and Grill.
Got a couple guys here, including a former Kentucky Wesleyan baseball player, Ethan Maxie.
Former Wesleyan Panther baseball player right there.
859-2802-287.
That is our Clark's Publishout phone number.
And the A-Vision Glass Text Machine, which I have in my hand,
502-735-3680, says this one's for Max.
Max, we don't need to punt this year, right?
Correct.
Yes, we don't.
So that's a good point.
So maybe just throw anyone in there.
Well, I guess we don't want to say it on the air.
But you brought up a point that maybe they're trying to figure out what to do with their punters.
It's an interesting point.
Wilson is your experienced guy, but this guy had some success at UT Martin.
Yeah, I mean, they might be worried about the punter that I thought should start maybe punting it too far, apparently,
which I didn't realize was ever a thing when it comes to punning.
I didn't think you could pun it too far.
I know there's the old adage of you got to match hang time with distance,
but that went out in about the 60s.
So if our coaches are still thinking along those lines,
then maybe watch the last 10 out of 11 Ray Guy winners that have come from a certain country
and not really worried about that.
See how it goes.
Now, that's not Australian because he's South Africa.
Yeah, you can't just start claiming every country.
I'm not sticking up just for Australians there.
I'm just saying college has changed a little bit.
Punnings changed a little bit.
Maybe we need to get with the times just a touch.
In this case, you're picking someone over the Australian.
Wilson Barry's Australian.
You're leaning towards South Africa.
For everyone that's calling me a homer, that's not true.
I just go with the talent.
Well, you know, they outkick your coverage.
If that's the point that maybe they're kicking it too far, you're out kicking your coverage.
Yeah, but it's not a thing.
Like, just kick it as far as you can.
And if they've got a problem with covering, then get some faster guys.
Throw Dan Kee on the coverage team.
Amen.
Didn't we have Bullware on this show, and he talked about having to cover punts?
He kind of alluded to that a little bit about you want your guys down there to fill the player or you're not doing any good.
Do you know what I dream that?
No, I think you're right.
I forgot about that.
I forgot why even who interviewed him?
but I remember that being a part of the discussion.
And if you want time to get down there and cover the punts,
maybe roll the guy out so he can hold on to the ball a little bit longer than normal,
instead of just doing pocket punts.
Really?
Maybe a novel approach to punting.
Could be an idea.
There's a trophy downstairs if he wants to walk past it and have a look.
In a big mural.
Big mural.
You're going to get McAfee calling in with all this talk.
859-2802-287.
That's our Clarks pump-biz up phone number.
So who's our first caller, Shannon?
Let's go to Farmer.
Farmer.
Farmer. Go ahead, Farmer.
I just had a comment for Drew and Max.
I was trying to listen to the football podcast,
and it's not up anywhere that I could see.
We got more technical issues.
It should be on YouTube, right?
It's definitely on YouTube.
I'll see if it's made it up to Apple.
It should have.
We've had some technical issues today.
Apparently during the pre-show, Shannon, W-LAP and WKRD, both off the air,
streaming, the world's off the air.
Are we good?
Are we good now?
I think we're streaming now, at least.
So there's that, but I didn't even know that we were off the air.
I knew that we had some streaming issues, but I think we're back now.
Matt, just getting jealous that he's not here this week, so he's just if we're
trying the system and taking everything down, yeah, 100% while he's in the Virgin Islands.
It looks like the podcast forum did not make it to Apple, so something else we'll put on the list.
Okay. Well, watch it on YouTube.
I'll tell you what, everybody should just probably tweet Shannon about it if it's a podcast situation.
Shannon is definitely involved in this one.
Watch me block about 1,000 people right now.
859-2-802-287.
We have some phone lines open.
Here's another one.
This is from the aviation glass text machine.
Another one for Max.
Ask Max if he likes King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
Oh, a good Australian band.
Not as much as some people always ask me if I do,
because they do have a strange name.
They are a pretty good band.
Not for me.
My Australian band is Sticky Fingers.
If you've never listened to Sticky Fingers,
they're a great band.
I don't know if you've heard them, Shannon,
but they're awesome.
I'll play them coming up next break.
Yeah, I'll let Shannon play them.
You know, Max has been busy coaching now, Drew.
He's a big coach, big star.
He's joined the LCA Eagles coaching staff.
Had a tough way to start the season playing number one ranked Boyle County last Saturday night.
But you guys played pretty well.
I saw three quarters of the game.
I thought you guys played pretty well.
Yeah, we did.
I mean, you have to waste your time driving three hours to go playing West of Kentucky
instead of we could have just played the game here.
And on a Friday, I don't know.
understand that. And then we got another game on Saturday this week, which I'm not happy about,
because I've got to watch the UK game. But, you know, obviously love coaching LCA, as you can
tell. No, I've really enjoyed it. It was awesome. Great experience. And for all our kids are
awesome, just like you guys would love the Frederick Douglas guys. Like our kids are so great. And
unfortunately, we did get beat, Ryan, but three trips to the red zone without scoring. It's always
going to happen sometimes. And they got some pretty handy players on that Boyle County team. They took
couple one-handed catches. So, no, we'll get better.
They're the number one team in the state. We never have to play them again,
and we'll just focus on winning our state title.
Well, yeah, they're 4A, and they're number one overall. You guys are 2A.
Really, I thought you guys held your ground pretty well. You're right.
Boyle County's, we talked a little bit about it.
Quis and Barry and Brown, they're two receiver slash slot running back guys are good.
But those two driver brothers, the sophomore tight-in and the senior linebacker,
the sophomore tight-in, he's a stud in the making.
He is going to be the best player in the state next couple of years.
Yeah, I don't know if either of the driver brothers have UK offers,
but if they don't, maybe we need to look at it.
I think Vince is very aware.
Yeah, they're very, very handy.
Yeah.
You know, with the loss, you slipped a spot in our KSR top 25.
See, how to, okay, this is like losing Alabama back in the day when they were dominating,
and then you go down that we should have gone up in the rankings,
only losing by 20.
What happened?
Where did we slip to?
Now you're only one spot ahead of Madisonville, North Hopkins.
My maroons are at 22.
and you're at 21.
So I'm just saying you better look over your shoulder in the KSR top 25.
Do you disagree with the 21st?
I completely disagree.
Whoever makes those rankings, you know, send me a message and we'll have a debate about it.
Oh, you could fire them if you really need to.
We've got a whole committee.
I mean, it's not one person.
A lot of brains went into this, and I think it's a very fair spot in the top 25.
When we redeem ourselves against Franklin County this Saturday night and probably run clock on them, we'll be back in the top.
A bigger school.
That's number 13.
That'll help move you up.
Now, for 2A, though, they may be the highest ranked 2A team in the poll, though, are you?
Yeah, absolutely.
For a school that has 20 people that go to it, I mean, we only got 10 people.
We do all right.
Now, I sent Max a picture of our Frederick Douglas kicker.
Oh, yeah.
We have a thicker kicker.
He's a popular guy around this state after week one.
I've gotten a few messages about him.
Stephen Aranda, he's about, I don't know, maybe 5, 9, 280 pounds.
Oh, yeah.
A thicker kicker.
You loved him.
He looked good.
He looked real good.
Full-time left tackle, part-time kicker.
Yes.
And maybe the greatest kicker in this state right now.
Again, Vince, if you're listening, go after him with everything you got.
Well, he hit a couple kickoffs in the end zone.
He hit every extra point.
I mean, he's legit, a decent kicker.
He is.
But he rotates in on the offensive line.
He just looks nothing like a kicker.
No, he looks nothing like a kicker.
It looks like Jared Lorenzen out there kicking.
If he was kicking out there, have you seen him yet?
I've just seen a picture.
I'm going to go to the game Friday night.
We got a big one, right?
Louisville Trinity coming in Friday night.
So I'll see him in person, but I did get several messages about him.
There hasn't been many players, I think, that go from offensive guard to kick her in the same game.
I know at one time I think Frankfurt had a quarterback who also doubled and played noseguard, a big guy.
And he wore number 22.
It's when he was little Jared Lorenzen and was a quarterback and a noseguard on defense.
That game this week is number two versus number three.
I keep shouting out our top 25.
We're taking it very seriously this year.
Yes.
So we have these new ratings, too, that predict scores.
That'll come out on Friday.
Massey ratings.
Use computer info.
So who votes on the KSR poll?
We don't vote.
I don't have a vote.
We don't trust you to vote.
Yeah, I definitely don't vote.
Douglas would be number one.
Troy Howe, Daniel Hager.
There's about eight or nine people, Phoenix.
Like so, we have a whole committee.
They submit their votes just like the AP.
And they don't separate by class.
It's just top 25 in the state.
Correct.
I mean, they'll write.
breakdowns about each class, but the top 25 is just the top 25.
They obviously struggle with this week, but we'll give them one more way to make it right
and, you know, kind of get their bearings on how this season's going to go.
Well, you're saying, like, you guys open up with, you've got four pretty tough games,
and then your district schedule is not as strong, so that's why you had to play Boyle County
and these bigger schools start to season.
Yeah, Boyle, Pikeville, Franklin County, and Cal is our opening four.
So a little bit tough, but nothing we can't handle.
I'm sorry, what did you say, Shannon?
Just let you know we got some calls.
Oh, well, let's do it.
Who is up next?
Let's go to Dan.
Dan, go ahead, Dan.
Hey, guys, Dan from Rocky Matt.
Hey, Dan, good to hear from you.
Yeah, look, I got a feel-good football story about to tell you real quick.
My dad's 95 played on the Lafayette first football team in 1947.
Wow.
And 48.
So he wanted to go to a football practice at Lafayette.
So, anyway, I got a hold of the athletic department there.
And they said, yeah, I bring him over there.
So he's 95, so I take him over in his wheelchair.
Loved it.
And look, Coach Lawson came over, had his picture taken with him,
and guys, look, when the practice was over,
he lined the football team up on the sideline,
had their helmets on,
and he was telling Dad, asking him questions,
what position he played?
Dad says, I played half back.
He lined them all up, and they clapped.
It was fantastic.
out to Lofi at coach, Los and me assistant coaches.
They all came and introduced themselves to dad.
That's kind of cool.
Kind of cool.
Thanks, Dan.
Appreciate that.
I hope you doing well.
It is kind of cool.
95-year-old guy.
The current players can understand some of the tradition that's gone, the people
that played before them.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
I mean, that's one of the things that all programs should do.
Look back at the past players, get them down, make sure they're a part of the
program and the kids get something out of it.
And I'm sure probably his dad got a lot out of that, too.
It felt a really good, feel good moment.
It's a little different sport, but I've been keeping up with my Madisonville North Hopkins
Merr and soccer.
Yeah.
We're number one in the state.
Madisonville Hopkins is North Hopkins soccer.
We don't get to brag about these things very much.
So are they going to wheel you out and let me introduce you to the team, dude?
I was their biggest fan my senior year.
I'm thinking about getting the boys back together.
We're a little old.
We used to travel around with the couch playing at St. X this weekend.
You know, it's a big thing brewing in Madisonville.
And not only only were one spot behind Max's LCA.
in football, but number one in the state and soccer. Keep an eye on Madisonville, North Hopkins,
boys soccer. All right, we'll take our break. Come back, go back to the phone lines, 8-59-2-2-287.
Ryan, Drew and Shannon, we'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J.
He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
This is sticky fingers? Yeah, what do you think? Almost like it's got a little Jamaican vibe to it.
A little bit, a little bit.
Yeah.
They're pretty cruisy band, yeah.
Are they?
So they're real popular in Australia?
Traveling around the coast in Australia and going to beaches and putting these guys on.
Very good.
Jumping out.
You can put a surfboard on top of my band.
Well, let it play, Shannon, and then you can read your read over it.
Oh, okay.
Well, you want to talk about Draft Kings, right?
That's the segment sponsored by.
We had the appetizer last week.
Now it's time to feast.
College football is back.

And during the break, Max, Drew, ask you if you were going to take Kentucky to cover 28 on the
Draft Kings app. Are you feeling good about that? Absolutely. Absolutely. No, I feel really good about that.
I think, I mean, I was two years ago, kind of the pessimistic one. I picked us at 7 and 5,
and everyone said I was a downer. Now, we did go 7 and 5.
I'm picking us to have a better year than most people expect this year. Very quickly, though,
the draft king's thing.
The Fade this podcast, right, while he's not here, so I can talk a little bit about him.
He thinks he's got these revelationary picks on there, and he's like, you know what he chose?
The two best teams in the country to make the playoffs.
That was his big prediction.
He said, I'll give you something, everyone, I'll give you this, Ohio State and Georgia
make the playoffs.
Oh, thanks, Matt.
Thanks.
If you put 100 bucks, you get about 10 cents back.
Went out on a limb there, didn't it?
Like, what are we talking about?
In March Madness, we did a game where we'd all pick who would win,
maybe a region or a conference.
And he picked all the favorites, but he said, for this one,
you try to pick a long shot.
So I'm like, okay.
So I'm picking teams that are fifth, six,
you know, not that great odds.
At the end of the tournament, he put out our records.
And I'm like, well, of course you have a better record.
You had all the one seeds and I had all the seven seats.
So, you know, he works in, excuse the numbers a little bit, picking favorites.
We started the season last year with our KSR Parlay.
Remember Shannon famously picked UMass not to cover
The 58.
52.5.5 point spread.
So are we going to do another one?
Because Matt won't be back until Saturday until game day.
Oh, yeah, we'll do.
I'm not prepared to do one right now.
I haven't really been digging in on all my lines.
In fact, one I liked, Max just told me he's moved like three points.
I was looking at West Virginia versus Penn State.
It was like 10, 10 and a half recently.
It's already down to 7, 7.5.
So you lose money when you wait until late in the week,
but that's looking like what I'm going to end up doing.
But we'll throw something together here soon.
Maybe tomorrow.
From the Aviation Glass Tech Machine.
Drew, Madisonville, Boy, Soccer is also top 10 nationally ranked.
I didn't know that.
How about that?
Keep telling me good Madisonville things.
Hey, yeah.
Also from the Aviation Glass Tech Machine, will you guys all go to the Kentucky volleyball game tonight at the YUM?
Yeah, UK volleyball.
How about that?
They decide to play Nebraska in their first game in Louisville, so it's kind of a road trip.
Nebraska that returns every single player from a team that won the national title last year, right?
Didn't they win or they get to the championship game?
I know they're a powerhouse.
I don't remember who won the title.
That's a big way to start the year.
Big way to start coming out.
Swingwell, like what LCA did in football.
Is it like a little tournament?
How come they're playing in Louisville?
Louisville, there's two games.
It's a double better.
And it's tonight and it televised.
It's like a big shit.
ESPN 2 at 7 o'clock, number 9 versus number 2.
And Kentucky's number 9?
Yep.
You can tell this one's over.
Then we just flip that.
Then we move up.
No, that's a great start.
I'm looking for it.
I can't go.
Last time I was in Louisville
at a UK event.
Didn't go so well.
It didn't go well.
So, you know, I've been advised
to keep a safe distance,
but I will absolutely be watching.
You think a Nebraska volleyball fan is going to...
Oh, yeah.
You don't want to miss with those
Nebraska volleyball fans.
It's something in the air over there.
I'll be watching from the comfort of my own home,
but I'm very excited for them.
859-280-2287.
Who's up, Shannon?
Let's go to Storts.
Storts.
Go ahead, Storts.
Hey, greetings from Florida.
Hey, I got a question for Max.
And my question for Max,
before I give it, I want to go on record
as saying, I'm looking for a big
year from the cast. I think we're going to be 10
and 2, 11 and 1.
Wow. Whoa.
Well, here, let me, the to topper is
we're going to beat Georgia in Lexington.
And here's why. You got a
quarterback that comes from Georgia. Put yourself
in his heart and soul. Is he going to be
afraid of those Georgia defense? Nope.
He's playing against him for years.
Is he going to get fired up for that
game? Yep.
Yeah. Yeah. On defense,
We got, we got, um, dooms back there.
So you're going to be afraid of that offense?
Nope.
Is he, you get my point?
And is he going to get his guys up, fired up around them?
And is a crowd going to get them?
I mean, it's going to be exciting.
So anyway, on record.
My question, though, for Max, so Max, you know, I'm looking for what's the vibe
since you've been there, and I know you're still hanging around the program with stoops.
Matt's talking about we're not going to break through, like I'm talking about breaking
through until something changes.
But what's the daily vibe?
Like on the practice field, in between plays,
is there a daily vibe that we're built in the
national championship, or can you give
an example of, if that is the case,
I hope it is? What are we doing?
Because that's what we're going for.
I mean, that's ultimately where we're going for.
Everybody thinks it's a joke and impossible dream right
now, but I'm a believer
and trying to get as many people
behind me as I can.
Yeah, look. Appreciate it.
Appreciate your phone call.
NIL and the historical success of Kentucky football makes it tough.
We're always going to be up against it.
But we're always building as a program.
I mean, you think about the wins that he's had in the last few years,
two 10 win seasons or whatever it is in the last five or six years.
And I think we're always pushing.
There's a quiet confidence about UK football right now from the coaches and all the players.
And I've said before, I really loving the selflessness that's coming out of the interviews
with these guys at the moment.
You know, there's no more standing up and talking about themselves during these interviews
in these meetings and whenever they talk to the press, it's, oh, this guy in my position group's
doing great, this guy's doing great, this coach is doing great, whatever it is. It seems to be
a lot of deflecting the praise, which isn't always common in college, Ryan. So I have a really
good feeling about him this year. I think, you know, just that alone is worth one or two extra
wins to me. I see us winning nine or ten games as well. I was actually going to call the Georgia
game because of one word, we're due. We are due to beat Georgia. I mean, at some stage you're going
to beat them, right? They can't just beat you every single time. And they're
they haven't dropped a game that they shouldn't drop in, what, four or five years now?
Like, eventually you just drop a game like that.
Alabama doesn't go through.
All the seasons were saving.
Eventually, they lose one that you think that they're going to win.
Like, obviously, you think they're going to win every game.
But they lose one.
You don't expect them to lose, and that's going to be to Kentucky this year.
Are you saying we might burn the ships?
I think we're going to burn the ships.
Well, if there's every year, you've got a good chance to beat Georgia's any.
It's this year.
It's at home.
You have your best team maybe in the Mark Stoops or probably your best defense you've had.
Burn their ship.
Burn their ships.
I mean, your chances are better to beat him at home.
You have a quarterback that's familiar with Georgia.
Correct.
Linebacker?
Yeah, two players that aren't going to be intimidated.
Kentucky's really played them relative to it being Georgia.
It's played them pretty close compared to how other teams have played them.
And here's the thing as well to all the fans and to a lot of people that have heard in media too.
We need to get over the fact that we say we've got a tough schedule because unfortunately every year in the SEC is a tough schedule.
So we can't just go, oh, we've got a tough schedule this year.
That's going to be the schedule.
That is.
There's no getting away from that.
So we need to either win these games and start beating these teams that we think we can never beat.
Like I saw on the KSR predictions that a bunch of people have picked Florida to beat us.
They're not beating us this year.
We're better than Florida now.
We're a better football program than Florida.
We've beaten them the last three years in a row.
Get a beat them again this year.
We need to get over the tough schedule thing.
We are part of that tough schedule for them.
We should have had you on the predictions with this optimism.
It's a schedule that's not going to get any easier either with Texas and Oklahoma coming in.
So you just get used to it.
Every year is going to be, like you said, a tough schedule.
Absolutely, every single year, particularly if they bring in the nine-game schedule next year.
You have to train our brains on that because it's going to be harder, but there will be years.
Missouri has a gift this year.
It's like they're not even in the SEC with the schedule they have.
So maybe occasionally we'll get hooked up with one of those and can really dream about a playoff or something special.
Because if you put Kentucky schedule next to Missouri this year, it's like they're not even playing the same sport.
How about this, Max?
John Pierce from Harrison County
was a tackle at UK
who was also their kicker
when they moved into Commonwealth Stadium in 1973
so Kentucky's had an offensive lineman
who was also a kicker
Well see that was back in the days where you weren't allowed
to punt it too far so they needed someone
They couldn't actually kick it very far
But nowadays yeah you want to kick it a little further
And our boy Freddie he punted
He was a quarterback and he punted at UK
Yeah if he didn't want to get drafted for the major leagues
Throwing a baseball or play basketball
anything else, Freddy wanted to do.
He could do about it all.
859-2-802-287.
Who's up next, Shannon?
Let's go to Gary in Orlando.
Gary in Orlando.
How are you, Gary?
Well, it's been a while, guys.
Good to hear from you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You forgot one of the celebrity birthdays this week.
I was kind of hurt.
Who's it yours?
Yeah, on Thursday, right after Matt's.
So I expect a big shout-out.
But going on,
You were talking about how we haven't beaten Tennessee down there in forever
and haven't beaten them overall in forever.
I was there when we beat them way back in the 70s,
and the score was 12 to 6.
It was 28 degrees.
It was spitting sleet and snow.
I ran my big mouth in the Admiral Benbow Bar the night before
and said if we won, I would jump in the pool.
I would jump in the pool.
What is happening here?
They're doing a little construction work live right during the show here in KS.
Bar and Girl.
Don't you go yell at Butch?
All right.
You want his ponytail?
Well, happy birthday, Gary.
We appreciate it, and I hope you had a good birthday.
Okay, buddy.
Good talking to you.
The Tennessee game is another game, Max.
Everybody predicts Tennessee to win.
But Shannon, the dude, the only guy in the KSR prediction picked Kentucky to win that game.
You know why I said?
Because the same reason Max just said.
They're due.
Yep.
They're due.
What?
Well, it's their due, but in Australian, you pronounce these like a J, right?
Jew, yes.
So what's the little green can of soda that you drink?
It's Mountain.
Jew.
Yes, great.
I remember when we were driving one day and I said that,
and you guys all looked at me like, what are you saying?
It was a sign, like it was a church sign or something,
and it said something, something do.
And you said something, something Jew.
We're like, it's not a Jewish church.
Yeah, that one's a top.
All right, we'll take our break.
Come back.
Go back to phone lines, 859, 280, 2287.
Ryan, Max, Drew, Jew, and Shannon the Jude.
We'll be right back.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate.
the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the
lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball, like, I think.
After you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.

Hey Jude.
Hey, Jude.
Ryan, Drew, Shannon, Max the Juffy
here on Kentucky Sports Radio.
This is a basketball question that, see if you guys can do it.
Andy Katz posted what he thought were the top ten fan bases yesterday for college basketball.
Most of them are pretty easy.
There's a couple of those I thought were kind of surprises in there.
Who would you put in your top ten college basketball fan bases?
Well, number one would be the University of Kentucky in Big Blue Nation.
They are number one.
It should be a North Carolina.
Carolina and Duke.
North Carolina is number seven.
Duke is number four.
I'm going to put Kansas at number two.
Kansas is number three.
Gonzaga?
Gonzaga, not on the list.
I don't like them, but Yukon fans, when they're good, can get into it.
They're number two.
Number two, I don't know if they should be that high.
They're pretty terrible humans.
You got one, two, three, four, and seven.
Are we going to put Louisville in there?
Louisville's not on the list.
Good.
Should be on there.
Just wanted to confirm they didn't make it.
Who always said?
Baylor?
Baylor's not on the list.
What about Tennessee?
Tennessee's not on the list.
Michigan State?
Michigan State's not on the list.
Syracuse.
Nope.
Indiana?
UCLA?
Yes.
Indiana is number eight.
What are the random ones we're missing?
UCLA?
Purdue at number five.
Oh, come on.
That's a major stretch, Andy Katz.
Major stretch Purdue at number five.
Illinois.
at number six.
Oh, come on, Andy Cats.
Andy Katz, what is wrong with you?
My goodness.
You told me that's ahead of North Carolina, Indiana.
I guess is Arkansas on there?
Arkansas's number nine.
They're the only other SEC school was UK and Arkansas.
I guess those razor back nuggets have been fired up recently.
And number 10 is Iowa State.
So some questionable picks by Mr. Andy Katz.
into an Iowa State game in Ames, one of the biggest games the year.
I mean, it was a good atmosphere, but I don't even come to mind when I'm trying to
think of the top ten.
Not top ten.
Now, of course, if it was football, you got a different question.
You got Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia.
It's much different.
We have a different field than you got for basketball.
All right, 859-2-2-287.
I got a couple lines open if you want to call and get on board.
We said it's game week, but next week will be decision week for Jasper Johnson, Drew.
The details have been announced.
that when he will make his big decision on September 5th.
September 5th.
At Woodford County High School.
That's Thursday?
Thursday.
Yeah, it's been kicked around a little bit.
We thought it was going to be this week.
I was going to be this Thursday.
But it sounds like he went off to OTE down there in Georgia.
Logistically, he's moving in, has some commitments there.
The fact that he wants to do it at home, he pushed it back a week, which will happily wait.
Absolutely.
He's going to come to Woodford County to announce because,
maybe I'll be proven wrong.
I already feel like it's locked up
in a done deal, but he can't come home
just to pick another school, can he?
Shannon, he's not going to make the announcement
in Lexington's backyard at Woodford County
High School and not pick the cats, is he?
No, but if he did, I would applaud it just because
of the troll job.
Somebody's going to do that eventually.
I said this on the pre-show today. I don't know if anybody heard it,
because I don't know if we were on the air for the second half of the show.
But one of these days, one of these
commits are going to call KSR
live on the air with us,
going to pick the other team. So I would think that maybe Jasper Johnson should call up Alabama
Sports Radio and make the commitment on their show for Kentucky. And then pick Kentucky.
That would be quite a troll move, Max. I'm with Shannon. I think someone is going to eventually
do that and why not do it to us. Don't call them and not commit to Kentucky. Do it to the other
radio stations, calling them and just get their hopes up and then let them down. Because, you know,
UK football likes to have a lot of their commitments, make their pick live on our air during the show.
You don't want that to happen.
I mean, if Vince's market, they're hoping to set it up and they call,
have the guy call our show, they better be picking Kentucky.
Well, Vince went and recruited this guy, right?
Isn't that the word?
He's going over.
That's true.
He popped in to say hello, make sure things are going all right?
He needs to get back in the football facility and just concentrate on the most important sport,
all right?
We get back in there, Vince, let's get these tight ends going.
Let's catch some touchdowns.
Let's not worry about the basketball team right now.
We can worry about it in a couple months.
It's football right now.
Now, you know, we kind of talked about it last week,
but it needs to be repeated.
Kentucky had a lot of ground to make up with Jasper Johnson.
The Calipari staff didn't maybe make him such a priority
as the Mark Pope's staff has done.
The NIL commitment maybe was not as big as it is now.
They had to pony up a little bit more,
and I think that has been done.
I think the family still had some feelings hurt from the way Alvis was dismissed
his career ended in Kentucky.
I think those bridges have been bonded, so to speak.
So, I mean, I think a lot of ground had to be made up,
and that's why people kept saying Jasper maybe leaning toward North Carolina,
maybe leading even towards Alabama.
I think that's been done, and now it's where we are today.
Pope really prioritized him and got back in it in that recruiting.
And then here recently, as Max said, I think the big dog stepped away from two days on camp.
Just to say hi, make sure the Johnsons are doing okay.
Our friends that like to buy expensive hams, I think also got a little bit involved.
And maybe he said, we'll save some of our ham money to even help out NIL a little further around the basketball team.
Get that excitement going by Pope.
So all those things collectively have us in a good spot.
When he pushed it back a week, you know, normally you wouldn't think that'd be good when Kentucky's in a good spot.
But as I'm reading and then it says at Woodford County High School, I mean, it's kind of.
I think so too.
So you're saying Joe and Kelly Craft may have a ham sandwich that they're given to Jasper.
Extra ham sandwich?
People that like country ham.
Whoever likes country ham and spends $10.5 million on it might have thought, you know what,
we can't let Pope lose one in the backyard right away.
We've got to keep that excitement around.
So us and the big dog, we'll just see what's going on over there and check in.
So it's a ham sandwich with a little extra bread is what you're saying.
A little lot of extra bread, I think.
Well, you know, the rumor was I guess earlier that NIL, the best package was coming from Alabama.
Like they had the best NIL package for him.
So Kentucky had to pony up, and they did.
I mean, that's what it is.
It's encouraging to know that the boosters, the people that buy these hams are now back on board with the basketball program.
Yeah, I mean, listen, Alabama's, they're having a good run right now.
We've got to look in the mirror.
They've been winning the SEC.
They've been doing a lot better than we have in the conference.
But at some point, we've got to put our foot down and say, we're still Kentucky.
Correct.
Get your hand out of our Woodford County.
You go mind your own business down there in Tuscalo.
This one's staying home.
Arkansas's got their chicken, we've got our ham.
Amen.
And I would back a pig in over, well, even though they're the racerbacks,
I'd back the pig in over the chicken anytime.
So I also think, I don't know if he was encouraged, maybe he was by Pope,
but Moreno announcing just a week or two before.
That was strategic.
It was because not only as you're saying, okay, this guy's in, you can be the second,
but he got to see the reception that Moreno got, just how important it is to stay home.
I mean, he was already, he already knew that enough, but Moreno doing it couldn't have hurt.
strategic i think having that happen first all right we'll take our break doors we're going to open here at ks bar
and grill come on out have lunch with us we'll be right back ryan drew shannon and max the duffy here on
