Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. This is not Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:02:53 This is Drew Franklin, the third string quarterback of Kentucky Sports Radio here hosting today's show while Matt is in Bailey, Colorado, and Ryan Lemon is feeling a little under the weather. We hope to have him back soon. In their place, I have Adam Luckett joining me. We're doing a full day of UK football talk. We're going to be joined by Dion Walker on the soon. Shannon's still efforting that. Did you say you have him? Well, then let's not wait any longer. Let's just go ahead and get to all six feet, six inches, and 350 pounds of defensive tackle. Dionne Walker is joining us on the phone line. Dion, you're about to enter your third season. You're a veteran now. How are you feeling going into year three with kickoff just two days away? Yes, sir. I can't wait for the first game,
Starting point is 00:03:37 you know, just getting back out there one last or one more time with my brother. You know, the feeling's unreal. Stoves mentioned earlier this week that with so many new faces, you guys are having to just get used to the regular game day routine, even did a little walkthrough on Saturday, I heard. Is it all still feeling the same for you? Are you showing? showing these new guys what all it takes to get ready for a game? Yeah, of course. You know, a lot of our guys, you know, we got a lot of Casper guys and a bunch of new freshmen that's going to play.
Starting point is 00:04:10 So, you know, they got the physical aspect. I just, you know, been trying to show, especially the people in my room, like the mental, like, hey, it's going to be loud, so you can't let the loud. All right. Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio. I don't know what the heck just happened, but our equipment turned red, made some very loud noises on our ear, and then it disappeared. I hope that didn't go over the radio, and it couldn't have happened at a worse time because we had Dion Walker on the phone line. I appreciate Dionne holding through that.
Starting point is 00:04:45 We're still dealing with technical difficulties, but I will finish our conversation by phone. Shanner, am I in? Do we have Dion? Yeah, yeah, I believe Dion still there. So, yeah. All right, Dion, we're just going to pick back up like nothing happened. that that's a common thing that happens here at KSR, but we're excited to keep talking to you.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Let's get back to the football talk and we'll worry about our operation later. Before the season began, at start of camp, you guys had several injuries along the defensive line. A lot of your teammates, a lot of good players that we had high expectations for, but Brad White acted like everything's all right. I mean, what does that say about your depth of the defensive line
Starting point is 00:05:20 and the talent that you guys have that you can withstand losing such good teammates around you? You know, that just doesn't. goes to our defensive line coach, Coach Stewart. He just, he gets us so prepared and so ready for each game. He was, he got us prepared so much for spring ball for camp, like to where our tools or three can go in and we can see no drop off, you know? Like, we're the most experienced room, so we have, like, we already have depth,
Starting point is 00:05:56 but we have to find a way to. lead our entire defense. Are there any young players in that group or anyone that we haven't really seen on the field that you think could be a player to watch or someone that stood out in early camp that might be a name, not everyone recognizes? Yeah, I'll say Kendrick Gilbert, 99, or Gerard Smith, 95. He just got injured. He had an MCL injury.
Starting point is 00:06:25 His name is Tavion Gadsden, but he should be coming back like mid-season. We've heard from Coach Stoops that sometimes you've been so disruptive in fall camp that he has to take you out of scrimmages and drills just so that the offense can get something done. You've been too dominant that they can't get their work in.
Starting point is 00:06:44 It sounds like you're bringing the right attitude to every practice and bringing that Dion Walker football every day. Is that right? Yes, sir. I'll be getting mad when he take me out. Is that just the competitive juices kicking in as you're going into year three a big season for you?
Starting point is 00:06:59 Yes, sir. And it's just, you know, you need live, like, game reps, you know, and the closest thing to that is, like, the scrimmages. So when he takes me out, I'm like, come on, let me get at least one more record plays. Come on, like, you know. Yeah, I completely know. It happens to me all the time when I'm out there in the trenches, too. Yesterday, after practice, you heard from Brad White and Brock Van derrick at quarterback. And Brock said he's so jacked up for. Saturday's game that there's no chance he will sleep at all Friday night. Will Dionne Walker get any sleep? Are you able to get your hours in? Are you the same way where your mind's too focused on what's ahead? Yeah, I say my mind's always too focused on what's ahead. So I got to do something to, you know, get away from it, you know, like read a book or play the game, something, you know. Just get out of that. Play the new video game?
Starting point is 00:08:01 Yeah You're a pretty Pretty big force to reckon with on there Rated at 93 Do you just control yourself all the time Playing with UK Or do you try to do something different No
Starting point is 00:08:15 My player is He is kind of a cheat on there But I'm a linebacker user Man So I use her D Eric D Jack
Starting point is 00:08:29 Or Pop just got into the game So I'm going to start using her Him too sounds like another activity you're interested in when you're not playing football is basketball you even hinted at trying out for that tryout spot mark pope excuse me offered across campus what is deion's history of basketball do you really think you could hold your own in there if you try it out for that last spot yeah i feel like you know i played i've been playing basketball since elementary school you know um i'm sort of like i'm a big man of course but you know i'm
Starting point is 00:09:04 like the playmaker, the facilitator, you know. So, you know, you can give the ball to me, top of the key, hit a cut. I can hit you or I can make a play, pick and roll. You know, I can do it a little bit to everything. Are you the best basketball player on the team? Because Max Harrison has said that about himself in the past. Who, if not you, who would be the one to take that spot? All-around players?
Starting point is 00:09:29 I don't know. Because we got a lot of good shooters. There's, you know, just a bunch of athletic people that can just go. All the round basketball player. I say Zion's children. I love it. It looks like you all get a little in after practice. You've got a goal there at courts.
Starting point is 00:09:54 By the field at practice. I'm going to give you one more. You're nice enough to wait through our technical difficulties. But every day you're going against this offensive line, and you're moving positions around. I'm sure you've seen gone up against a lot of those guys. Of all the offensive linemen on the team, who's the meanest, maybe talking the most,
Starting point is 00:10:10 or gives you the most trouble over there that we should be watching out for when the season starts? I say talking the most, as always. It's either a Jalen Farmer. You know, he's funny when he talks, but even him, you know, Marcus Cox is good, too. Like, I say, Marcus gives me the most, like, the most competitive, you know, and that aspect.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Like, he gives me the most opposite. That's a veteran offense. are lucky to have back. Same with you. We're looking forward to a third year of Dion Walker. You're on all the preseason list. We're expecting big things ahead. We thank you for joining us on our show today. It was quite of a mess. But thank you for holding through that technical difficulty. It really was a pleasure talking to you. It's a good. Good luck. Good luck with everything, Dion. Yeah. All right. That was Dion Walker as I stand here talking on my cell phone. It does not feel natural at all. There's also an echo where I could barely hear what he's saying. Shannon, what is going on? You guys tell me, everything's working back here in the studio. But I guess we have a new problem with the equipment, something you've never seen happen before. Yeah, it sounded like a big problem.
Starting point is 00:11:29 So did that go through the air? Oh, yeah, yeah, I heard that. At first I thought that was Dion Walker's phone connection. Then I realized, oh, that's you guys. So what happened? Did somebody spill one of those Kentucky NIL beers on the equipment or what's happening? No, nobody moved over here. We're minding her own business.
Starting point is 00:11:47 We weren't even near it. And the thing lit up like a Christmas tree. Adam and I both almost went deaf. Now I basically hear myself talking. Is there a way to shut off the echo? This is just absolute chaos. No, I don't think there is. Okay, well, you took a break earlier, so we've got to keep rolling, right?
Starting point is 00:12:05 Is Luckett on another phone line? Yeah, I think you may be hearing yourself through Adam Luckett's phone. I think that may be the problem right now. Okay. So if you guys are right next to each other, that's probably why. I'm going to go outside. This is ridiculous. Well, can you stay there?
Starting point is 00:12:19 I'm going to talk to you through the phone. What is happening? I just looked at Drew Shannon, and I was like, what is going on here? Fix this. Fix this problem. And he looked at me with deer in the headlights. So I was just like, you know, what do I do with my hands? It's like the old, it's like the old Nintendo thing.
Starting point is 00:12:37 You got to, you know, just take out the cartridge, blow in it a little bit, put it back in. you know control alt delete that's the type of thing you've got to do sometimes to make that thing work so if it was only that easy now mr drew franklin is out in the hot summer sun to bring you kentucky sports radio from 10 to 10 to noon don't ever say this job is predictable drew you would know this for a matter fact we'd never know what we're going to get hit with and today you're just having to walk around like shannon did that one one one morning i'll just walk through lexington and have the show i'm now over by sonics lot on my phone. Mario is looking at me like I'm an idiot because I am an idiot
Starting point is 00:13:15 but the show's got to stay on the air. I'm usually pretty well versed in troubleshooting our equipment, Shannon. I know what to fix, what to turn off, what to power down, power up. That looked like a new issue. I don't know if you played Xbox back in the day, but there was this thing called the Ring of Death.
Starting point is 00:13:31 If that popped up on your Xbox, you just had to throw it away because it was fried. I'm worried the Comrex might have the Ring of Death. Is this the new Comrex? equipment or is this the old stuff that tell together with shoestring and bubblegum? Well, first of all, nothing in the company is new, so we're not going to call it new, but it's the one we've been using for a long time.
Starting point is 00:13:51 So I would say it is an older bottle. Not ideal. Have you ever seen one just turn bright red like a Christmas tree to make everyone go out? No, which, you know, again, you always get something new that pops up when it comes to our equipment. So at least we got you guys on the air. That's the main thing. If you guys want to take a phone call, we can do that. I've got a phone caller for you right now.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Well, that's sure. Silver GMC almost hit me. I need to get back out of the road. Now I'm in a median. Yeah, let's take a call. That sounds fun. All right. Let's go to Travis.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Hey, Travis. Hey, guys. It's Travis Freeman from Corbyn, Kentucky. And I am the guy who is the inspiration behind the movie, 23 Blast, which was filmed here in Corbyn. I just wanted to let everybody know that it is back on Netflix and is in the top 10 this week. So movie about Corbyn is out there
Starting point is 00:14:57 and would love everybody's support to help push it up the charts. Yeah, I remember, didn't you do a, there was a premiere in Lexington when that first came out years ago. I think a lot of people watching it been. Yeah, everyone should watch it now. Tell us again the name and where we can find it. Where you said it's streaming. It's 23 Blast and it's on Netflix.
Starting point is 00:15:17 It's my story. I was a blind high school football player. And so just love to get the word out. All right. We appreciate that call. And I'm sure a lot of our listeners will tune into that as they get ready for football season. We're taking in as much football content as we can. So everyone, check out 23 blast on Netflix.
Starting point is 00:15:39 It's nice local stories, Travis said. We appreciate you calling in. Thank you. Hey, guys, I got a little update for tomorrow for us. Travis, you're going to have to hang up the phone because I can't hang it up. I've got both of you. This is such a mess. Little update for tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:15:57 We were promoting it on the pre-show, but want to let you guys know that we are moving the remote from tomorrow at Wild Eggs to November 1st. So no remote tomorrow at Wild Eggs. We're moving that to November 1st. it may have something to do with the fact that we don't have equipment right now that's working, so that's probably a good thing. And we'll have Ryan back and we'll have Matt back. We'll have the whole gang there on November 1st at Wild Egg, so that's been rescheduled. You guys were telling me that there is a new SEC song that people are getting stirred up about online.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Is that right? Yes, I actually haven't heard of yet. But during the break before all hell broke loose, lucky it was telling me that's getting a lot of criticism. So I know I know that music. it can't maybe make it to the podcast, but if you want to play it here, we'll react to it real time.
Starting point is 00:16:44 You know what? Now made it to Broadway. I'm on South Broadway, if anyone else. Hopefully the second hour won't make it to podcast. It's been a train wreck. You're not missing anything if you haven't, if we've got it for you.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Drew, you want to listen to it with me for the first time. You haven't heard it. Neither have I. I've not heard it. Let's give us, let's give everybody our real-time take on what we think about this song.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Here we go. All right. So, I mean, it's, it's all right. I think I've heard that before. That was used, what, on ABC years and years ago? I mean, it's... It's the old ABC jingle,
Starting point is 00:17:18 but they've added a bunch of stuff to it. Okay. It's not just the original. It's like a remix. It's a little too doctor, and I think that's the problem here. If they would just play the old ABC jingle, I think everybody would be cool with it.
Starting point is 00:17:31 That's what the beginning sounded like the first 10 seconds, but after that it became something else. So I don't know what the guys at Mickey Mouse from thanking that. Drew, you know, I'm big on nostalgia. Like, I love the fact that the NBA on NBC is bringing back the old 90s jingle. Like, you know, it makes me think of the Chicago Bulls from the 90s, you know, the NBA and NBC theme that they're bringing back. This right here, though, I mean, I don't know. Does this get you pumped up to watch a college football game? I don't know if it's working for me, Drew. I might have needed some visuals, but just listening
Starting point is 00:18:05 to it while standing on the side of the road as cars go by, it didn't grab. me. I hear some notes of the old music. Like, like, like it said, it's kind of like they just ran it through a system and added a few more bells and whistles. It kind of sounds like the generic song that would be on a video game or something where they're trying to get around
Starting point is 00:18:22 using the actual music for rights purposes. So, yeah, I would add that it could have been better. It doesn't really grab me. Sounds like they ran it through AI. Like, here, AI, here's the original, dress it up a little bit, put in a few more bells and whistles, and that's kind of what we got here, it sounds like, so.
Starting point is 00:18:38 Yeah, it's not. lost on me, though, that I'm criticizing the sound of something as I'm hosting the most popular radio show in the state on the side of the road on my phone. But here we are. Who would know any better, Drew? Who would know any better to what's good and what's not? I mean, you just do the perfect. You're the perfect guy to be a critic. Isn't this how most radio shows sound? Yeah, of course. Then five-bond doesn't sound like this, right? I'm sure people are loving it, and my friends and family are roasting me in a group text right now, but we're going to get through it. How much time do we have for the next break? Oh, like another five minutes.
Starting point is 00:19:09 So you get another five minutes on the phone, don't you? No, it's all right. Yeah, no, I can do it as long as it sounds fine. This big brain, we can do hours of this if we need to. I just checking all the time. So since I have Luckett, I want to ask him, since I already asked Dionne Walker this. But yesterday, Luckett, you went to practice, and Brock Van derriff said he's not going to sleep at all. Friday before game, team no sleep.
Starting point is 00:19:30 He's channeling his inner Duran Lamb doesn't need sleep before game day. Do we like that? Is that encouraging? It worked for Duran, but are showing? should we be worrying that our quarterback is going to pull an all-nighter before a 745 game? Yeah, I think that's okay. You know, this is Brock Vanager's first career starts. First time he started a game since high school.
Starting point is 00:19:50 We already heard Mark Soup say earlier this week. I'm sure he's going to be a little anxious and whatnot. That he's really just chomping at the bit and really excited. He said, I'm going to be so excited. Like, I might get a little teary at before the game just because, like, he said emotions maybe get the best of him or kind of dissonuated that. I think eventually, Jerry, you do want him. just calm down. You've got to play a football game.
Starting point is 00:20:10 You've got to execute for us. But I think first game, it's fine. He dropped the I love football, the line a couple times. And you can tell, I think, this hasn't been hard to tell, but you can tell this means a lot to him. And that he's taking this very serious,
Starting point is 00:20:24 this opportunity, very serious. Again, I think you want to see him calm down eventually once the game starts. But I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, that the new leader of your offense is really excited to get rolling. Yeah, I love that he said.
Starting point is 00:20:37 I'm so jacked up. And I just love ball. Two great quotes you want to hear. But maybe work into cornbread to him through the night before. We don't want him being tired during the game. You also, in that same conversation or right before that, talked to Brad White, who I couldn't really make out, he channeled some Reed Shepard Rob Dillingham comparisons
Starting point is 00:20:58 with talking about Kentucky's depth chart and how maybe starting doesn't matter, does matter. He came up when talking about all the oars across the board. What did you make of White's comment to just kind of explain what he was saying yesterday? about the Depp chart. Mentioning earlier, like, the football staff has heard the noise. They even heard the noise on that side, right?
Starting point is 00:21:16 They know they've heard that the fans confluence. I thought that was an interesting quote for sure. It kind of came out of, you know, there was kind of a Randy Orton T.K.O. Ork.o, excuse me, out of nowhere. But I think more of his point was, like, Debs charts don't pay too much stench to them. They don't mean a lot. These guys are going to play just because the guy starts in week one doesn't mean he's going to be starting in weeks. like some competitions aren't settled yet there could it could be guys you don't play up
Starting point is 00:21:45 two expectations that need to be replaced or injuries could happen and so don't put too much stock into that they're going to have they have some depth at multiple positions that they're going to use so that was really where it came from and just wanted people to know that starting the game does not matter this is a team sport they're going to need a lot of guys to contribute and that's kind of where that came from but definitely was oh we're doing the basketball thing again. It's odd to hear the cross sports there in a press conference, but interesting analogy there by Brad White.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Shannon, I went over to KS. Office just around, just to make it sound better. Yeah. Locked out of there, my key, I have the original key. I was the first person to get a key that no longer works. So my morning is just getting better, so I'm going to keep standing out here. Can't even go my own damn office today, so this is fun. I'm also starting to get a little bit of anxiety.
Starting point is 00:22:36 I think I had an adrenaline rush there for a second. but I'm quite embarrassed by the Dionne Walker interview. The fact that he had to sit through that, well, I mean, that's the star of the football team. We were so excited to lock him down today. We've been promoting it for two days.
Starting point is 00:22:49 I couldn't wait to talk to him. Then all hell broke loose. And I said Mark Coupe. Did I say Mark Coupe? Yeah, you actually did. I mean, you've done that before and too on the show. If you didn't, Ryan did, somebody's done it before. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:03 Well, Matt and I said it to each other one day, and that was funny, but not to Dion Walker. and then I couldn't even hear what he was saying back. Do you think we'll ever have Deion Walker on the radio again? Highly unlikely. I think he probably thought, you know what? I've done podcast with people who have about, you know, two subscribers that sounds more professional than what those guys just did.
Starting point is 00:23:23 But you know what? It's okay. Hey, it's almost time for a break. It sounds like all hell is breaking loose in the background. So I think right now is a good time to take a break, guys. Oh, I don't know. Let's just do this forever. But no, you're right.
Starting point is 00:23:34 We should take a break. I'm going to come back in and try to do something with the equipment. All right. Good luck. All right. We'll be right back, everybody. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise,
Starting point is 00:23:55 breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments, that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Starting point is 00:24:19 SportsClyce brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsClyce on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host,
Starting point is 00:24:36 and your favorite therapist, Kier Game. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Starting point is 00:24:49 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
Starting point is 00:25:08 because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:25:31 Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano and our podcast Point Game. is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 00:25:47 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I gotta manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's gonna be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall.
Starting point is 00:26:07 Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.

We've got connected with the guys, and we'll get right back to it in just a minute. Let me tell you, though, exciting news from our friends at cornbread hemp. Why are you embarrassed? I can't believe I said Mark poop and just fumbled over words with Dion Walker. I was so excited to talk to him. Why did it have to happen right there? I will say, we're back. I'm inside. The ambulances are no longer chasing me. I'm no longer
Starting point is 00:29:25 trying to break into my own office. It's amazing what a hammer will do to a good piece of technology, but at least for right now, do we sound okay? Yeah, here we're back. Okay, Luckett, I think. I think it only happened for Deion Walker, which is kind of infuriating. I apologize if it sounded like I was having a bit of a meltdown. That was chaos. That was absolute chaos.
Starting point is 00:29:46 You need one of those country lights right now. Just pop one of those bad boys open. I'm going to open one right now. Why not? Why don't we go to the phone line, Shannon? You said there are people there waiting. They either have any question for Luckett or they want to make fun of me. Either one of those are fine.
Starting point is 00:29:59 All right, let's go to Dalton. Dalton. I hope your phone works. How's it going? I think it works. How are y'all today? We've been better, but we're glad to talk to you. I mean, of course it happens with Dionne Walker. I mean, from Commodore's to Comrexes, he's disrupting production all over the region. There we go. There we go. It's funny, he called in. I had to step up on the radio. I had a question about him for you and Luckett
Starting point is 00:30:26 and bring a little light to a disaster situation. Let's say you're on the football field, and Josh Allen and Dion Walker are bearing down on you about to take the out. The only way to stop that hit is you've got to take your picture with throwing both ELZ. Do you take that picture or do you take that hit? You're saying we have to take a picture throwing ELs up, double barrel, or take a hit by Dionne Walker or Josh Allen? Correct. You've got to make that decision while they're running at you. That's a great question.
Starting point is 00:30:57 We appreciate the call. And that scenario, luck it, I think I'm just saying, take me, Jesus, this is going to hurt. But I'm not putting my L's up, so I'm just going to see where I land after that hit. In the words of Mike Gundy, I'm a man. Come bring it. See if you can bring me down, Deion Walker and Josh Allen. Well, if you had to pick between the two, they're running at you. You know, Deion's got the weight advantage, and he's probably mad that we just put him through that on the radio.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Walker, or, excuse me. Allen's coming from the outside so you can maybe shield yourself a little better. there's a chance you could get to pick up and fall and pile drive with Dionne Walker. I would like to avoid that. So I'm going to take the one with less mass in this situation and maybe be able to embrace it a little bit better with Allen coming from that. So I would pick that one. Neither one is very good.
Starting point is 00:31:44 No, I would prefer neither, but I'm never going to do the L's up. I would also do the Tom Brady fall down, just eat the sack. I'm picking Josh Allen, not because I want to, but as you said, Dion's got a little more mass. Josh Allen's a Jaguar and I'm a Titan so I have that advantage on him. Might even whiff, who knows, might have some blocking come out of nowhere. But that was a fun question.
Starting point is 00:32:03 Who's up next, Shannon? Let's go to Storts. Storz. Thanks for calling in. Hey, guys. I called it on Monday. I gave you a 10-2-11-1 prediction highlighted with a win over Georgia. You guys gave me crickets.
Starting point is 00:32:19 So today I heard the call this morning, the first caller, props to him. and you say you want passion. You ready for some passion? I want all the passion you have. Dude, I had to keep it in when you guys gave me crickets on that.
Starting point is 00:32:33 So here it comes. Let that butterfly fly. Here it comes, baby. Adam, the first biblical name. Brother, you've got to have faith. Faith is assurance of things hoped for with conviction of things not seen. Brother, I got faith.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Man, we got a five-star quarterback. We got deep running backs. We got the best defense ever. Stooges' hand. Let me tell you, Stoops has carried us. Our teams in the past with our defense. This was better. We got a 60-yard punter. We got a 60-yard field goal kicker. And the 60-yard punters being re-shepherded right now, but I don't care. We got him. Let me tell you this. Let me tell you a story of faith. This is an alum that went to the swamp on September 8, 2018. I sat in the student section with my dater children, and we watched
Starting point is 00:33:20 that game. They took me for my birthday. They made me happy. Let me let them. them laugh at the Gators beat me. They've never lost in their in their lifetime. But brother, I had faith. I went to the game with a customized football shirt, UK football said, reap no more, my lady. I got in there and I asked the young men around me, hey, you guys know who Benis-Snell was?
Starting point is 00:33:42 They laughed at me. They laughed at me. Then I pointed to him, they go, that little guy, they laughed at me. 27 to 16 later, snail, yeah. So wake up, BB. end. This is, we are near the end, brothers of SEC mediocrity. It is near. So believe.
Starting point is 00:34:03 That's the kind of juice we need. That's our third call of the day. We appreciate hearing from you again this week. Lugget, do you like the passion there? Picking 10 and 2, maybe 11 and 1? I love the energy. Love the passion. Love the vibes. I think the vibes are really good right now. And let's continue that into the season and then week 2. That's the way to really get the vibes kicked off. You've got to handle your business week two, Drew, and kind of a working hot take I have, if Kentucky handles their business and looks good, week two. And let's say Georgia handles their business, week one against Clemson. I think there's more than a puncher's chance you could get college game day in Lexington for that night game.
Starting point is 00:34:42 ABC, Kirk Herb Street will be on the call for that game. I think you look at the slate that week. The big game is Alabama and Wisconsin, but that's a Fox game. ESPN's not going to want to do a lot of game days at a Fox locale. So maybe, and they're going to have more opportunities probably for Bama later in the year, I think Georgia at Kentucky, I definitely think it's a sneaky underdog to get college game day in week three. Now, Kentucky has to handle their business, but do not be surprised if that happens. I think where they put that game is a sign that that's a contender to me.
Starting point is 00:35:13 Like you're putting it right there, that's a chance for they can go to Lexington, and they haven't been alex in a long time, go there, you get Georgia early in the year, you get Georgia at Kentucky. I definitely think that's a sneaky contender for college game day early in the season. You mentioned Georgia Clemson, one of the biggest games of the weekend coming up. Spreads 13 and a half. I was up early this morning because Draft Kings, we got a little parlay they've added up on the site. We're on there now, the KSR Parlay, go check it out.
Starting point is 00:35:38 But I was back and forth on that game, Georgia and Clemson. I was leaning Clemson. I ended up leaving it out. Do you have any strong thoughts about Georgia Clemson? Now I'll let you know what I settled on. Looking it up right now, do we know the total in that game? What's it, about 46, 47? I saw a lot of people calling for the under, but Matt doesn't like totals.
Starting point is 00:35:55 He's an anti-total guy, so we stick with the spread. I mean, yeah, I have 48 and a half right now. Yeah, I'm a fan of totals. Me too. It kind of scares me with Carson Beck because of the quarterback that they can sling it a little bit. Drew, me and you had a fun year a few years ago, just Beck and Kirby Smart unders consistently. So I would kind of lean under there. My early angle this season is take advantage of the clock rolls.
Starting point is 00:36:18 I think we're going to see games play out like Georgia Tech Florida State limited possessions. So take advantage of these clock rolls. I think unders could be a sneaky value play early in the year. So that's more of my angle on it. I would probably lay the points here with Georgia just because they got the star quarterback. The offense should be ready to roll because of Carson Beck. And then the defense is always pretty good. Clemson, if they can't run the ball, it's K. Clubnick versus that Georgia defense.
Starting point is 00:36:45 In a matchup like this two years ago, they had Bow Knicks running for his life. in 2022 in Atlanta. I could see that kind of playing out like this, or I don't think it'll be the total Georgia steamroll, but I definitely could see the Bulldogs win. It feels like a 27 to 10 type of game to me. Well, Shannon, let's go over our parlay. I did not reach out for you all on this one.
Starting point is 00:37:03 I was working on it at like 6 a.m. Didn't figure you wanted a 6 a.m. Text wondering what you thought about Georgia Clemson. I would have been awake, but that's okay. Go ahead. What do you get? Well, they usually want us, you know, good parlay in the plus 300 to plus 400 range.
Starting point is 00:37:16 That's 4 to 1, 3 to 1. But I said, nay. We're doing plus 1,000. We want a lot of money this week. So I did four games against the spread, starting with Texas A&M. They're hosting Notre Dame. I think home field advantage will take over there. Texas A&M is a three-point favorite.
Starting point is 00:37:31 Am I crazy luck it? Am I right with the Aggies? Believe A&M's unranked. Notre Dame's ranked. Principal. Unranked team is usually laying points for a reason in these ranked unranked matchups if you get them. So I like that there. I like A&M on that.
Starting point is 00:37:48 side. If I was going to pick a side there, I think I like the Aggies. I think it matches up well. Notre Dame's got some offensive line issues. A&M's got studs on the defensive line. I think the Aggies got a really good chance to win that game. I'm good with that pick, so we're one for one. What else do you have, Drew? All right. This one, it was the first one that came to mind. I'm not going to say a second guess it now because you don't second guess your bets. They're all automatic losers. You've got to have 100% confidence. But I'm trusting the Florida Gators playing Miami team with high expectations in their conference, but their conference. isn't real football. Florida is getting a field goal in the swamp. Am I crazy for taking Florida
Starting point is 00:38:24 as an underdog at home in a year everyone thinks they're going to stink? This is the week one anxiety bowl. We're getting a meltdown from a fan base one way or the other. I'm out of that game. It's going to be 800 degrees in the swamp. I think two good quarterbacks here, two experienced quarterbacks with Graham Mertz, Kim Ward. I'm battling out. This is a total 50-50 game for me, so I'll take the home team getting points in this situation. Yeah, I think it was even two and a half, about a half point just to be safe. The way I saw it is if Florida, if we don't win that, Miami kills them. Oh, well, the Florida Gators got killed at home.
Starting point is 00:38:54 I enjoy doing that, too. You are all right with that, Shannon? Yeah, I mean, I'm not quite as confident on this pick as I was the first pick. But you know what? Hey, it's opening week. We already saw Florida State get knocked off by Georgia Tech. So, yeah, I guess I'm going to try to be okay with it. I guess it's too late at this point anyway.
Starting point is 00:39:11 You've already put it in. So it doesn't really matter if I'm okay with it or not. But yeah, we'll go with it. What's next? You'll be okay with one of the other ones. Next, we're going to trust the fighting Neil Browns of West Virginia. I don't think Luckett loves this one. They're hosting Penn State.
Starting point is 00:39:27 The spread was like 10 and a half, but a lot of the monies on West Virginia, it's down to eight, but I still took it as West Virginia as an eight-point underdog on their home field in Morgantown. I'm not going to ask Luckett because he's going to put some bad juju on it. So you took West Virginia on this one? Yeah, eight-point underdog. I mean, they can still lose by touchdown. Here's the thing. I am still scarred about people.
Starting point is 00:39:47 picking against Penn State when I took UMass last year, who I believe were a 120-point dog. And I said, you know what, they won't get beat by that much. Let's go UMass. And Penn beat them by about 500 points. So, again, I don't know if I would have picked this one, but all right, you got West Virginia. I'll roll with it. It doesn't sound like we have a lot of faith, but we're locked in. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:09 You can see, yeah, it's a four-leger. I'm saving the fourth one. You know, if you go to draft King Sports Book, use promo code KSR for your new customer. If you're already on there, we're up there with the parlay. As you can see, Shannon's pretty little face next to me, Matt and Ryan, with the KSR parlay, where our fourth leg, everybody's picking West Virginia. They're playing the Vanderbilt Commodores, but we don't bet against Vandy on this show. Shannon is a Commodore, so I have Vanderbilt getting 14 points at home.
Starting point is 00:40:38 14 Shannon. Surely they can stay within two touchdowns. Well, you know, it's not really ever a home-filled advantage for Vanderbilt because every other team comes in and takes over their stadium. and I don't know. Do they still have that big crane? They do. That's a big part of my pick. The construction's not done yet.
Starting point is 00:40:53 It's a big distraction for visiting team. You're saying a hold field advantage because the locker room is basically a makeshift tent. I mean, there are people tailgating outside who have a better tent than the teams do in Vanderbilt Stadium. So you know what? Maybe you're on to something. I at least I appreciate the pick. I'm going to say let's go doors. I also bet the Vandy season win total is my lock of the season on,
Starting point is 00:41:16 fade this. Their win total is three even. So if they just win their three crappy games, we're at least getting our money back. We just need to win one other game. Yeah, and but these two Vandy teams, like I mentioned earlier, pace to play is going to be real Vandy and Virginia Tech. Both want to run the football, both want to be run heavy, both have quarterbacks that they're going to involve in the run game, and both defense is probably the stronger point of their team. So I can see this game being kind of a limited possession game. Clock milk fast, and I think that works out well when you're playing a 14-point underdog. It sounds like Luckett likes that. So if you want to join us, I'm in there about 10 to 1 on the first KSR parlay of the college football season on Drafking Sportsbook.
Starting point is 00:41:53 When we come back, we'll take the last of the phone calls and finish up this football show with Adam Luckett. This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. Welcome back to the final segment of Kentucky Sports Radio. This segment is brought to us by the Kentucky State Chamber. You know, a new report from the Kentucky Chamber highlights the massive economic impact of housing in Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:46:45 contributing billions to the state's economy. The housing industry not only drives economic growth, but also supports over 105,000 jobs statewide. Homebuilding and remodeling generate significant tax revenue for Kentucky with over $1.5 billion in federal state and local taxes. Affordable housing remains a critical issue. The report emphasizes the need for policies that support home builders in creating affordable housing options.
Starting point is 00:47:07 The report bills that every new home building Kentucky generates an average of three full-time jobs boosting local economies. The chamber wants to hear from you about your. your housing perspective, visit kentuckychamber.com slash housing to tell us about the biggest housing issue in your community. The biggest issue in my community is this radio show and channel, oh no, now two of them. I was going to say one of the big bosses is here. A second big boss just walked in. We have, we have eye heart higher ups on the scene. I feel like I'm in trouble. You might be, or maybe the equipment's in trouble. Maybe they're going to take that and throw it
Starting point is 00:47:39 into the dumpster. It is appropriate that it's working just fine as they're both here. Good to see Gus and Nathan here to help out. We appreciate that. But so far, so good. And while it's working, let's go ahead and get to these callers who want to talk to Adam Luckett. Who's up next? Let's go to Luther. Luther, thanks for calling in. Thanks for taking my call, guys. I'm excited about this season. My biggest question I have about this team is what about the offensive coordinator? I'll hang out and listen to your comments. Yeah, what about Bush Hamden and Adam Luckett? Yeah, I'm excited about what Bush Hamer can bring. This is a guy who's been part of a couple top 25 office.
Starting point is 00:48:13 offenses at the play caller. When he took over play calling at Missouri in 2020, they kind of took off and really ran the quarterback and had their best performances of the season. To me, if you were going to compare Hamden to one offensive coordinator in the Stoops area, to me it's kind of, I would compare him to Neil Brown. How kind of he's been this riser throughout the ranks. He is going to be a college football head coach. There's no doubt about it. He's probably two or three years away from that. So I think you're going to get two or three year good years out of him and he's probably going to go be a head coach somewhere. But I'm excited about what he can bring.
Starting point is 00:48:45 And I think the reason Mark Stoops liked him, he's had a thousand-yard rusher every year. He's been a play caller. He's really been able to run the football. And then at Missouri, he showed some adaptability to have a, when you have a running quarterback to be able to take advantage of that. Then you saw it more at Boise State, and I think it's going to be a part of the package here at Kentucky with Brock Vandergriff. So I'm excited about what he can bring.
Starting point is 00:49:09 I think he has definitely has a high floor as a play caller. and I think there's going to be good things. There's going to be good moments for this offense, and I think most everyone's going to be pleased with him. Once we get to Thanksgiving weekend, I think most people are going to be pleased about Hamden's first year. Let's keep going with the next one. Who's next, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:49:24 Terry. Terry, you got a question for Adam? Yes, sir. You know, I'm probably in the minority here. I'm not the biggest Brad White fan, and that's because I don't like the dink-and-dunk-let teams getting 15-play, eight-minute drives. like we had in Mississippi State last year.
Starting point is 00:49:44 Do you see anything with the personnel that he has this year that's going to make that different? Are we in for the same where these mediocre teams are going to get to drive the ball down the field on us? And do you think what's more a halftime score, Saturday? Is it more 1410 Southern Miss or 357 Kentucky? I'll hang up and listen. Yeah, I think there's still going to be a bin-but-don't-break philosophy.
Starting point is 00:50:11 And I think Brad White left tomorrow. That would still be kind of Kentucky's MO. I think there's definitely going to be something to that. They're going to want to make teams earn scores, and their biggest goal is going to be eliminated explosive plays. Now, I think to prevent these 15, 16 plays drives you're talking about, it's third down. You've got to get better at third down.
Starting point is 00:50:30 That's where Kentucky has to get better this season. And that's where I think you'll see more of the aggressiveness come about. I think they've shown in the past that they're willing to isolate and go one-on-one. They did that a lot, I think, with Carrington Valentine two years ago. And that's part of the reason that defense was so good is because they had a guy who won his first year of battles one-on-one and key situational spots.
Starting point is 00:50:51 So I think you'll see that kind of play out this year. I think you'll see them probably play a little more aggressive because of what they have in Maxwell Hearsden. But again, I do think they're still going to be what they are. They're still going to play zone a lot. They're still going to Bimba don't break, but I think in situational areas will be more aggressive. And then to me, going into this game, you know, you see this
Starting point is 00:51:11 spread, it's 28 points. That's a lot of points. To cover a spread like that, you got to score. Touchdowns, right? You got to score. I don't know if we're going to see the offense come out and drop a 50 burger. That's hard for me to forecast with all the new parts. So I don't think that 35-7 would be
Starting point is 00:51:26 a likely halftime score. All right. Thank you all for calling in with questions for Adam. It's been a fun show with apologies to Mark Pope for what I called him and Dion Walker for whatever the hell that interview was. I think otherwise we had a great show, Shannon. Yeah, it was great. Let's quickly Talk about Stockton Mortgage, Stockton.com.
Starting point is 00:51:43 Go there right now.
