Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?

Quarterback on office blue with 42.
A rep, my mama want you to wave at her.

this podcast is for you to hear more.

This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome to a new day, a Friday, August 30th.
on Kentucky Sports Radio.
We are one day from the opener at Kroger Field
tomorrow night when the cats take on Southern Miss.
Today we'll get you ready for that and a lot more.
Drew Franklin here filling in for Matt Jones
and Ryan Lemon for a third straight day.
Have Shannon the dude in Louisville producing the show.
Have Billy R. Sports across from me.
He's going to be joining the discussion for two hours.
Billio, I believe I've been calling you.
We might stick with that.
Mario is also here.
I might have Mario hop on.
But as everyone feels,
It's an exciting time to be a Kentucky fan.
We've been talking about it all summer.
Training camps over, all the talking's over with one more sleep.
And tomorrow we're out there for that game.
Again, that's seven, it's actually 75.
It's not 745.
We get an extra 10 minutes tomorrow night on the SEC network with our boy Tom Hart,
Jordan Rogers, Cole Kublich.
We want to hear from you all today on the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line at 859-280-2287.
I'm going to give the callers a little bit of an assignment, Billy.
We're going to play a little bit of a game.
Okay.
I heard on the pre-show, it was a little slow getting moving with the callers.
So I came up with something to bring it out of them.
Yeah, Shannon had to scream at a couple people to get people to call in.
I almost pulled over and called in.
Once we got them rolling, like once the first person called in, then all of a sudden it was good.
Just got to wake people up, you know?
Well, I'm glad you got them fired up.
We'll see if we can get some submissions for this.
I want to hear everyone's game day setup, whether it be your tailgating setup, if you're going to Kroger Field.
Maybe you're just at home and you cook for yourself and you've got a fridge full of Kentucky blue light.
maybe you're meeting friends at KS. Barr, whatever you have going on,
call in and tell us, and then we're going to rate it.
Maybe even Shannon will do some scorecards.
We'll see.
We know Shannon.
Shannon likes to rate things.
We might even give suggestions, pick apart people's plans.
But Shannon, do you like that game to get us excited for tomorrow?
I love it.
We want to know what your setup is.
If it's good, we'll tell you, if it's not good, if it needs some improvements,
maybe we'll give you some pointers, you know?
Yeah, maybe what's on the grill, what's in the cup, where are you, who are you with?
What are you listening to?
we just want to hear as many details as possible.
Get that excitement flowing today, and then we'll break it all down for him.
Yeah, how long ago did you set up your tent to tailgate for the game?
Months ago.
You know, are you drinking any of the NIL beer?
I think we're all ready for football season to start tomorrow, so excited for it.
I know our friend T.J. Smith, our favorite personal injury lawyer, will be out there
tailgating tomorrow. He doesn't miss a good tailgate. What will T.J.
He'll make them pay.
Yeah, you've got to call him first. Call T.
They don't make them pay.
Call T.
He won't just do it out there.
I guess you have to call T.
I want to start with some professional news, guys.
I still work here.
I was very excited today when my key card worked when I got to the building.
Yesterday, I felt a little bit of a sabotage going on.
We're already down to third-string host.
I'm just sitting at the end of the bench with my clipboard, never thinking I'd get called up.
But, you know, Matt's away this week.
We have Ryan fell a little bit ill, and then I step in.
I feel like we were rolling, guys.
And then Shannon, what the heck happened there with Dion Walker?
I was hoping you would have an answer because, you know, you were there at K.
bar and grill. I'm back here in the studio over in Louisville. All of a sudden, the equipment just
starts making an awful noise, and it couldn't have happened a worse time a minute into the interview
with Dion Walker. And you know what, though? Hey, we salvaged the interview. We got you on the phone.
It turned out okay, other than you calling Mark Pope, Mark Poop. Other than that, it was great.
There hasn't been 20 minutes that I've been awake since yesterday's show that I've gone without
thinking about that me calling him Mark Poop. It's haunting me. It's living in my head. It's ruining me, Billy.
I will say that was maybe more entertaining than the interview alone would have been with Dion Walker.
But also, I absolutely loved that your family was killing you in a group chat as the show was going on.
All my friends.
My phone was blowing up.
I mean, there was some support.
There was some.
Keep your head up, buddy.
You know, there was some of those, but it was mostly just getting made fun of it.
Or the guy buying you some bourbon after the show because I think you needed a little after that.
I enjoyed that.
Shannon, I didn't realize until after the fact that that static went to everyone's ears.
Oh, yeah.
It was just me, you, and Luckett.
And then Abby told me, yeah, it was very loud.
People were probably jogging, working out, got their earbuds in.
We might have destroyed a lot of eardrums with whatever happened there.
Well, you can thank me for keeping it in the podcast, at least part of it.
Like, it was probably about, I don't know, closer to 10 seconds of that awful noise before I decided, okay,
let's just go to break or do something here because we can't keep doing this.
But I kept about five seconds of it in the podcast just so you can get the true listening experience of what happened yesterday during KSR.
So I had to write a little blog post about the interview of Dion.
We know we'd always take our content, write about it.
Normally I would listen and write the quotes.
I couldn't bring myself to listen yesterday.
One, I already hate my own voice.
Mario knows he's been riding with me in an ad will come on.
I'll reach up and slap the mute or knock my radio off.
But yesterday I could not listen to it.
So I still don't even really know what Dion Walker was saying or what I was saying.
Billy, was there a takeaway?
Did we get anything out of it?
No.
We talked to a little basketball because I at least messed up the coach's name.
No, actually, I don't have a takeaway besides you're just trying to keep the boat afloat.
It means it was a good interview.
Yeah, absolutely.
Well, I'm glad we moved on from that.
Like I said, we have a fun show today.
We want to hear about your plans for tomorrow, whether it's your tailgating or going to a bar.
Maybe you're going to KS bar.
Pre-game shows there at 3.30.
We'd love to see you.
Maybe you're just sitting at home with a couple friends.
Let us know what that's going to look like.
And then Shannon will absolutely pick it apart, and that'll be a good time.
That's right.
That's right.
Hey, can I provide a quick little update on our friend Ryan Lemon?
Yes, actually, I meant to ask you that.
very rude of me. How's Ryan doing? So I talked very briefly with him yesterday. He's still dealing
with some of the effects of vertigo, but he says he's about 75%. So he's getting better. He's not
quite there just yet. I know that he wants to be a part of the pregame show tomorrow. I don't
know what he's going to feel like tomorrow. So that's still up in the air. But the good news is he is
feeling better. So I was glad to hear that yesterday. Yeah, good to hear he's on the comeback. We're hoping
to see him tomorrow. If not, we'll be fine without him and hope to see him next week. No show on
Monday, right? Labor Day weekend.
No show on Monday. We'll have a best of.
Shannon, did you happen to get an update on if the speakers are still blaring Darius Rucker
throughout the neighborhood?
I haven't got an official update, but I'm just going to assume,
just for the entertainment of the show, that Darius Rucker and the speakers in the backyard
of Ryan Limit are still at full blast.
Still going.
I'm just going to assume that right now.
I don't know that's true, but I would say there's a good chance.
There's probably a 75% chance that's going on.
It's not really on my way home, but that might be worth taking a lap out that way
and see if he's still blasting the sound.
It wouldn't shock me.
because I know, I don't think he's been there as he's been trying to get better.
We missed Ryan last night, Shannon.
There's an event that he's a big part of.
We go every year.
It's a local organization called Thursday's Child.
Their mission is to recruit adoptive parents, like our own Ryan Lemon,
and then support the children that are waiting
and then provide post-adoption support after that.
I've been to this event like five or six times.
Freddie's very involved.
Ryan couldn't make it last night.
We missed him, but it was their big annual Night of the Stars fundraiser in Lexington.
He was at the Campbell House, had a tropical theme, so I got to wear my Hawaiian shirts that we all know I have hundreds of.
And they had so many stars, Shannon.
There's Tom Hammond, Tom Leach, our friend Jeff Bacchora was there.
And then one of the stars at the end of the program, Billy Ruttlidge.
Oh, really? Billy.
Billy Ruttledge was one of the stars in the night with the Stars fundraiser with Thursday's jobs.
Did Billy get up and make a speech or anything?
Or what happened, Billy?
No speech, but I did get the invite back at the first.
pack. I did stand up and do the wave to the crowd.
You had a great wave. You asked me when we got there, what is this?
You know, first time or your rookie needed to see the ropes.
I told you just give a great wave. That was like a pageant-esque wave.
Well, thank you. I've been practicing in my house waiting for these moments like this.
I did feel very out of place being called a celebrity host because there was quite a few there.
And like you said, they were announcing people like Tom Hammond, Tom Leach.
And Billy Rillage.
Which one of these doesn't belong?
One guy stood up. He was a true American.
American hero, a double amputee that also went blind.
Matthew Bradford, a friend of the program.
That's right.
And then they're announcing, you know, blogger, Drew Franklin, and UK Sports Network producer
of Billy R. Sports.
So it was, I felt a little out of place, but the Hawaiian shirt theme, I think, settled
me down a little bit.
I didn't love being in between Matthew Bradford, a Patriot and a hero, and Tom Hammond.
I wish, I wish they had just not said me at all.
Did you write your own bio?
I noticed your bio had a lot of meat in there.
I think yours was longer than Tom Hammonds.
Why does that not surprise me?
They were like, we need an introduction for you.
I was like, oh, okay, I'll take this moment to really put the resume out there.
So maybe it was a little longer and included GM of KSR.
Everyone at my table went, did they just say the general manager of Kentucky Sports Radio?
Did it also say like he hosts the post game show along with his co-host Matt Jones?
Didn't get that.
I did co-host of the pre-show and UK Sports Network Game Day producer.
and, you know, somebody you would call in a pinch.
But you know what?
I missed half of his stuff.
I went and got a drink as they got halfway through it when I came back.
So I don't know what was in the middle there.
They might have named the postgame show.
Yeah, but big thank you to Freddie Maggard, who initially extended the invite to me.
Unfortunately, I missed him yesterday.
But it seems like a great event, and hopefully they'll have me back.
Had a lot of fun with you last night, Drew.
Lots of fun, and now you're officially a Lexington star.
Lexington's a love.
But because we were there dancing to a little Concre Public music,
you know, getting in the Buffett vibe.
But your dad's a big fan.
He was.
Mike Franklin was there too.
He's the real star.
We missed a little bit of the football, but did you catch someone you got home, Billy?
I did.
I did.
I saw the struggle that Colorado went through to beat an FCS team.
Boy, I may be wrong about my prediction with Dion Sanders.
This might be a struggle over a year to get to 6 and 6.
Bobby Petrino's back with Arkansas, putting 70 on Arkansas Pine Bluff.
So I did get to watch a little bit of the games.
What about you?
Yeah, I caught the end of Colorado, North Dakota State.
I wasn't really going to be that interested
until I saw that North Dakota State was leading at
half time. So of course you have to tune
in. Basically what I saw
that Traff was Hunter, that dude's unreal.
That catch he made with a little over a minute
or whatever was. And playing both sides too.
I mean, the guy, nobody does that anymore.
And he's a special talent.
There's no doubt about that.
Is Shadur Sanders with 450 yards
and four touchdowns. But really, we all
wanted to know what Dion said after the game.
He, of course, had a little rant.
Some of you are upset. We got the W.
you, summer, you were really mad we didn't get the L.
You'll have to wait until next week.
Maybe I guess he's calling an L next week.
Is that what that means?
Maybe.
You know, he's been calling out a lot of media members lately.
Like a CBS affiliate tried to answer more question.
He's because I know I don't answer questions with CBS.
You know, I think he's, he thinks he's bigger than the program, I think, a lot of times.
Aren't the Wade twins there at Colorado?
They're not even on the, did I say they weren't even on the depth chart at Colorado?
They're on the roster, but they didn't make the too deep depth chart,
didn't play any snaps last night.
They've got Keaton, who is a linebacker here,
listed as a defensive end.
And then Destin, who was the backup quarterback here, they have like six quarterbacks.
And there's not a worst opportunity for playing time than behind Deion's son there.
I felt like at one point Deion knew the spread of the game because it was like first and
10 and North Dakota had one time out and he's throwing the ball to eat.
That was a bad play.
Well, they almost lost because of it.
North Dakota State had a hell merry at the end and caught it and just got stopped at the
four yard line.
That's right.
It would have been a winner.
Shannon, what do you make of Dion kicking a reporter from the Denver Post out of
press conference and says he's not allowed to ask questions. This is the Denver Post.
The local newspaper is not allowed to ask the coach of Colorado questions after games.
So you're going to have to help me out here. Was there like some sort of history between Dion and
this guy? What's the reasoning behind that? The guy was critical, but nothing absurd, nothing
too crazy. I think Dion just pretty thin-skinned, but he said, you're not allowed to ask
questions. Fine Bomb called the move a disgrace, and now Dion's taking shots at Fine Bomb. Do you
worried Dion might be a little too soft for the job.
I think that is extremely soft.
I mean, as we've talked about,
these coaches get paid millions of dollars,
absurd amount of money to be able to take criticism.
That is part of the job.
If you can't take, you know,
a little negativity every now and then,
especially when you just stumble through week one
and get your first win since October of 2023,
you deserve criticism.
So I think it's extremely soft for him to kick him out.
I feel like this guy's going to fail upwards, though.
You know what I mean?
Like he could go, you know, four and eight and get a job in the NFL next year.
They showed a graphic of like the impact of him at Colorado, the millions of dollars that have come in,
the season ticket prices that have been up.
It's been pretty, I guess not alarming, but eye-opening what he's brought to that program.
But at the same time, you can't be doing that to the media members.
You're going to get a bad rap really quickly.
He survived a scare last night.
Their defense is pretty terrible.
They've got the receiver Jimmy Horn Jr.
He had like 200 yards.
It's basically him, Travis Hunter.
and Shadoura Sanders carrying that team with the offense.
On the same token as Dion, you got Dabo now saying no callers on his calling show.
Speaking of soft, yeah, I mean, come on, man.
What the heck is that?
Yeah, you're from Spartansburg, right?
That's right.
He went on that big rant when Tyler called in and was questioning why we're paying our coach this absurd about of money to go out and lose.
And then he got just, I don't know, like he just went on a complete rant against the fans.
And for people for questioning his.
his decisions and the money that he makes.
I think it's a fair question, but man, extremely soft.
Can't do that here.
What would Bob and Jamestown do with his Monday nights if he couldn't call the coaches show?
That's one of the stars of the coaches shows, both sports.
Yeah, and you've got to think these coaches are already getting the call screened
by some people back in the studio, so you're already not getting the toughest of tough questions
or people that are really upset.
But I don't know, it's just another move by Davo, the name image of likeness of God,
instead of NIL, the not taking a single transfer portal player,
maybe another guy that feels like he is above the program like Dionne Sanders.
I was just told Keaton Wade is out for the season with an injury.
That's why he's not participating at Colorado.
But he's got a bright future.
I wish he had stayed here.
Unlike Dion and Dabo, we would love your calls and questions and comments.
We especially want to hear from you about what you're going to be doing tomorrow.
We're going to hit you with some honesty.
You might recommend you make some changes,
or we might say you have the perfect setup.
But we want to know how excited you all.
and what you have lined up to watch Kentucky versus Southern Miss tomorrow night.
Call us on the Clark's Pumpin Shop fine line phone line at 859-280-2287.

I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't
realize that we are in possession of the thing.
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.
Join me, Kear Gaines,

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the play.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the bar like, you go through a training camp with that Isaiah?
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,

A few more notes from last night talking about Thursday night football.
There were a lot of shutouts, Billy.
Lots of shutouts.
There was. Missouri took care of Murray State.
Like we mentioned, Arkansas, took care of Arkansas,
Pine Bluff, not a single point scored against the SEC teams last night.
I did want to bring up the Stephen Foll.
Austin game, probably not a lot of people watched it.
I did not. They were playing
North American University.
I missed it. You missed it. I didn't even know
that was an actual place. I think of the entire continent.
They couldn't even score a point. That's right. That's right. You think they
recruit a little better. But they, Stephen of Austin was up 70 to
zero at halftime.
Whoa. And because these are two FCS schools, they decided to shorten
the quarter lengths to five minutes in the third and fourth quarter because the
game was such a blowout. This is a peewee.
You can't just change the rules.
That's what I was saying.
I didn't know we can do that.
And that was the first for me, seeing that in college football.
What was the team that was down that bad?
North American.
What if I had North American to cover and you just took away my chances for them to come back?
That's true.
I mean, they were down 70 to 0 at halftime.
And after the two five-minute quarters, the game ended 77 to 70.
North Americans in Stafford, Texas.
But I don't know.
That's a new one for me.
He said 77 to 70.
7-0.
77 to 0.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's right.
Sounds like a fun game.
I hate that I missed that one.
Also, our friend John Sumraw at Tulane, 52 to nothing against Southeast Louisiana.
But I'm bringing that up that up, not because they won 52 to nothing in his first game there,
big Sumeraw fan.
He said after the game that the team sucked in the spring and that he was living in practice,
even after this 50-point win, he claims that Tulane didn't play great,
and he made it clear that he's happy with the shutout,
but they better get better get better really fast if they want to keep winning games.
How about tearing your team down after winning 52 to nothing?
Fair or foul, Bill?
Oh, I love it. That's fair.
That's a Nick Saban move if I've ever seen one.
Him screaming at Alabama when they played Western Kentucky a few years ago when they were up 28, 35 points.
I mean, that's the sign of greatness in a coach is doing the little things right.
And John Summerall, the next head coach at the University of Kentucky.
Oh, Colin a shot there?
I wouldn't hate that.
Shannon, I feel like you would support Summerall just telling his team how bad they were after winning 52 to nothing.
They do every big game next week against Kansas.
state so you could be getting ready for that. I understand the strategy. I've just always wondered
how a coach can do that with a straight face without laughing when you beat a team, what,
52 to nothing and you still have complaints about it? I mean, I guess there's always, you know,
room for improvement, but I mean, not much when you beat a team by that much. So, yeah,
I like it. I like the strategy. It is kind of silly, though. I mean, if that's what it takes to get
your guys ready for next week, then so be it. Now, Dian's not doing that. No, he's praising his
guys.
He's telling everyone else that's not his son.
How about they suck?
Another one from last night.
Minnesota had a chance to beat North Carolina
and missed a game-winning field go try from 47 yards.
It's time expired.
So not all shutouts.
But I have one complaint from watching week zero and then a little bit of last night's games.
What you got?
This year, college football has added a two-minute warning, just like the NFL.
It's pretty good, right?
We like that.
It's a little more TV, a little more commercials, I guess.
But, you know, your offense gets an extra time out if you're moving.
It's fine.
gets the pros in college on the same page.
But college football has made it clear that it's not a two-minute warning.
It's a two-minute timeout.
And they've basically told broadcasters and everyone to not call it a two-minute warning.
Are you going to call it a two-minute timeout or a two-minute warning?
Because I'm calling it a two-minute warning.
I grew up with a two-minute warning.
Yeah, it's baked in my head that it's a two-minute warning.
You know, we've seen a lot of changes to the college game.
And one of the most notable ones is the clock not stopping after a first down unless it's under two minutes.
So I guess that is a good marker for that.
rule change, but no, I don't think I'm changing the lexicon for that yet.
Yeah, Shannon, me, it just seems absurd.
I mean, it's a two-minute warning.
That's what we all know it as, and they've put their foot down.
I think they'll even throw you out of the stadium if you say two-minute
round.
I was going to say, like, what's the repercussions if you're the announcer and you say two-minute
warning?
We know it's a two-minute warning.
That's what we've all known in the history of football.
So I guess, what, college football, trying to be a little different, trying to let
let everybody know this is not a two-minute warning.
It's the same concept.
It's two-minute warning.
Sure is.
Now, let's get these callers.
and I'm ready to find out what everyone's doing tomorrow
and hear you're all's great.
Bless you, Mario.
Here's your three-minute warning
until three-minute warning right now until a break just to let you know.
Okay, let's go to Mike.
Three-minute time-out.
Oh, I'm sorry, three-minute timeout coming up in three minutes.
You're going to get us kicked out of here.
Mike, what's up?
What's up, gentlemen?
How are you this morning on what we would refer to as football Eve
in the blue grass?
I love it.
Happy football a year to you.
All right, so yes, and likewise,
If you get bored at 9 o'clock in the morning, you can come join our tailgate.
That's when it will start.
And we'll be doing three meals tomorrow.
We'll do some bacon and eggs for breakfast.
We'll be doing some hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch,
and all day long we'll be slow cooking a pork tenderloin with some potatoes and some other side fixings.
We will have some adult beverages ready and two TVs going on,
because you can't just watch one game at a time
because you're constantly flipping back and forth.
So we'll have two TVs going,
and it will be college football overload all day long.
We'll have the side walls up on the easy-up,
so it can rain sideways, and it won't matter.
We'll stay dry, so we'll have a place for you to come.
We will be on the corner of University and Cooper
right beside the big tree and the porta-potty
where the parking garage is.
We're the only ones there.
Come see us.
All right, we appreciate the call, and you can't see me right now, but I have a tear in my eye
because that sounds beautiful.
Three meals in one tailgate, Billy?
That's a good start to the callers with their tailgate setups.
They're going to be out there early, ready to go.
I think that's maybe the best part about a late kickoff is that you get the whole day to get ready for your game.
That's why we're blessed to have this 755 start.
Anyone that does a good breakfast at their tailgate, that's a winning tailgate.
I don't mean someone shows up with local donuts.
I mean, we like our local donuts.
There's lots of good options.
But when you're out there making bacon and eggs at a tailgate, you're doing it right.
Shannon, do you have anything you want to pick a part about that?
I feel like you might be our Simon Cowell of the judges here.
No, I mean, I would actually like to be there at that tellgate party.
I mean, he has two TVs going, which I'm a big fan of.
I don't like the picture and picture.
Are you guys pro picture and picture when you're watching games?
Do you like that where you divide your TV up into like three or four different boxes
and you're trying to watch multiple games?
Well, I'm very loyal to YouTube TV.
and they've just added the four screens.
I actually turned it on last night.
I don't know if my brain is quite ready to be there.
I thought it would be cool when they announced it.
I was so excited.
But when you're actually watching it,
it's a little bit overloaded.
Yeah,
I prefer two TVs like that guy's got,
like Mike has.
So,
yeah,
I'm with you.
It's sensory overload when you got like four boxes on one TV
and you're trying to keep up with four games at once.
It's almost impossible.
Well, let's hear who's up next.
I'm interested to see what else is going.
Oh, yeah, your three-minute break's coming up here.
three minute time out.
I think I'd be better at hosting after three short days.
There's no clocks.
You can't see anything in here.
We'll be right back after this break.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
It's not Matt Jones.
It's Drew Franklin here on KSR.
And we're looking forward to Saturday.
Game Day for Kentucky.
They play Southern Miss at 7.55 p.m.
on the SEC Network with a friend's Tom Hart,
Jordan Rogers and Cole Kublich on the call.
Before we get back to our calls to learn more about what people are doing for the game,
I want to tell you about court physical therapy.
When it comes to your physical health, you want a physical therapist you can trust,
and that's court physical therapy.
For over 35 years, court has been a leader in orthopedic and sports physical therapy throughout Kentucky,
providing care to athletes and weekend warriors alike.
Maybe you're like Mario over here enrolled your ankle playing pickup basketball,
and you're starting to learn that after college the body isn't what it used to be.
You can go to court physical therapy,
they'll take care of you with over 70 convenient locations throughout Kentucky Anna.
Access to expert care is easier than ever.
Go to K-O-R-T.com to request an appointment today and see why court is the best in rehab.
Shannon, here we have full lines.
People want to brag about their tailgating setups or their party setups, whatever they're doing.
Let's just keep running through these.
Who's up next?
Let's go. Logan's up next.
Logan, what's your Saturday look like?
Man, I'll tell you what, this is just the best time of year because as a cat's
fan you can, you know, say you're going 12 and no and nobody can prove you wrong yet.
So we're super excited about the season.
And I think the defensive line is going to be one that we remember.
I think the big blue wall is back.
It's just on the defense.
And as far as the tailgates go, we got a big blue nation crew that gets together every Saturday for the catter day.
And we're going to have some pork belly smoking all day with some.
Go ahead.
No, I was just, I was, I was enjoying it.
Salivating over here.
Yeah, I'm getting hungry.
Yeah.
And here in the western Kentucky, the Kentucky blue light beer has made its way over here.
So we may, we may try to, you know, test out the shotgun theory if the occasion
arises. So, no, man, this is the best time of year, you know, to be a college football fan.
Like I said, you can make any prediction you want. Nobody can prove you wrong yet.
So super excited. I think we have a great team. Go cats.
We appreciate that enthusiasm and let us know your Saturday plans. Sounds like I have some fun
in Western Kentucky. I can confirm those beers are shotgunable, not encouraging it, but it's been
done before. And that sounds like a phone with Billy. It does. Are you going to be doing
show me your tents with country?
I am. I'll be wondering the
tailgates. You know, game days are long days.
As you know, you live in the IHeart studio
all day long. I go straight from pregame
to doing a little video than the game,
then we're going to do some postgame video.
So looking forward to that. There's nothing like just roaming around
from tailgate to tailgate to sample a little
food because I feel like that's maybe
the best part of the tailgates is
the different time of foods out there. I'm looking forward
to it. Let's hear who's up next and what they have going on.
Cody, what's up?
What's up, fella?
We're just heading up from the
Louisiana left about 3.30 this morning. Just coming up to enjoy and be amongst them for the first time.
We're going to shotgun as much NIL beer that way we can get us a flu guard or get us a five-star quarterback.
I'll probably just shotgun until we get one.
Do your part. Yeah. In moderation. Do it in moderation, please.
We just wanted to know pretty much, you know, Mike helped us there with the tailgate and we'll definitely come hit up, Mike.
But we just wanted to know, you know, what does it daily look like for, you know, first.
First time fan coming to the game.
Oh, we'll let you know that.
I appreciate the call.
Awesome, they're coming from Louisiana.
Yeah.
This is already an award for longest travelers we're going to hear from today.
But I think he has a plan.
Just show up, wander around.
Maybe we'll tone down the shotgunning talk for illegal purposes.
Everyone drink responsibly.
But yeah, go check out.
Many tailgates, as you can see, the catwalk.
Is it 5.30?
Not sure.
530.
I'm saying 530 sticking to it.
Don't correct me if I'm wrong.
over at Gate 1 or
believe it even runs to Gate 12 over there on
Talbot Way. So you don't want to miss
your first catwalk and I would just say roam around
because there's going to be a lot of enthusiasm
out there. Tents have been up for months.
You can make a whole day out of it or of course
come to KS Bar where we'll be doing the pregame show
at 330. You can work that into
we expect to have a fun crowd there.
That's what I was going to say. KS. Bar and Girl is always
rocking when it comes to those pregame
shows and even postgame shows when Matt decides
to wander back over there after a big win.
But let's you know, fingers crossed that equipment
works tomorrow.
Not the best timing with that.
Don't give me anxiety.
We're having a good morning.
I don't want to think.
I don't look backwards.
I look forwards, Billy.
Who's up next?
Let's go to Andy.
Andy, tell us about your Saturday.
Hey, guys.
You know, I'm heading up.
As soon as the show's over,
going to come up, check into the room this afternoon.
Well, you very much know what my Saturday is.
I'm coming to KS.
Born Grill.
I probably won't come over to about 1.30 or 2.
But probably check out the first half of the,
the noon games over at the room and then it's come to the bar for the whole day.
Which game are you most excited about before you lock in to Kentucky versus Southern Miss?
Any of them?
You've got maybe a little wager on on draft kings?
Yeah, I've done a couple parlayes.
So I kind of agree with you on Florida against Miami.
I kind of did that one on Wednesday.
I figured I'm going to do my parlayes each Wednesday, about the best time.
to do those.
I got a couple
three teamers out there right now
going.
But I'm ready to get over there
and get, uh, you start my,
yeah, probably head up this afternoon,
but my, my, since I'm
right across the street in the bar,
uh, going to be there all day tomorrow.
I'm not popping the Tilda Kilt this afternoon.
Oh, you just stay with us.
We like Tilled to Kill, but we're excited to have you.
We appreciate the call. We're looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.
I see you tomorrow, man.
Yeah, hopefully we have a little Ryan Lemon there to, too.
Just to rehash that.
The pregame shows at 3.30, KS. Bar and Grill Billy.
All right, 3.30.
Andy will be there.
Hopefully, Ron, will be there.
Matt will be back from Bailey, Colorado.
I'll be there.
530 is the catwalk.
Gate 1 to gate 12.
From 6 to 7, I'll be roaming around in the game at 755.
Did you know that this is the 143 season of Kentucky football?
143.
Yeah, that's a lot.
That is a lot of football.
If you're out there, Roman, they have the first three editions of the new poster series.
You can get the one with Brock and the,
quarterbacks, the wide receivers
and the running back posters. Billy, you want to grab
you a poster? I know you're stuck in here at I heart.
Just all the stuff on these walls here in the studio.
I'd love a little decoration in here, just
besides the Twinkie box that's been sitting in that corner
for eight months. What's this like kids golf set
sitting in here in the box? Do you get that
board? You get a putt? I know Matt's not putting
so that's got to be you. I thought
I was going to bring in like a little putting green
but that is not a putting green.
That is like the old, it's
not the evil can evil jumping ramps thing
but it's actually a little guy that has a miniature
your club and then you had to push the thing
and then he hits the ball. I have not played with it.
It looks like a wild time. But Steve Lewis, thank you
for the gift. Our producer just butted
in my ear and said we have a special caller.
You weren't supposed to call him special.
I don't want him to really think he's special.
Oh, no. He's, he's kind of special, I guess.
Tom Hart, what's up?
You can't stay away
from us, can you?
No, no. I'm in orbit.
I'm in your orbit. Totally. I would just
call him to give you my setup for the game,
But, you know, you didn't ask.
So I just wanted to call in as a caller and let you know, like I'll have a bunch of monitors set up.
Most of them just on the Kentucky game.
But we might have a TV in the corner on the Notre Dame A&M game.
Probably won't tailgate.
But I'll be there early enough to tailgate.
And then, you know, watch the game with some buddies.
That's my playing.
You have some pretty good seats?
Yeah, pretty good.
Like right at midfield.
So I'm really excited.
And I'm going to try.
No matter what happens, I'll be dry.
So I'm confident about that.
Some of my buddies are out in the elements, so they may end up getting wet.
Yeah, yeah, I might get their hair wet doing that.
Being a night game, you know, it's going to keep you up a little bit later than you're normally used to.
What is your fuel?
I know you can't partake in what these callers are saying, but you're a coffee guy?
Or what does Tom keep on hand?
That's a great question.
You know, I've gotten kind of addicted to those Celsius energy drinks lately.
So I'll probably have a couple of those in the booth, maybe a peanut butter jelly sandwich at halftime.
Like whatever I need to keep the energy up.
Do you think, Drew, do you think the game's going to be close?
I do not think it's going to be close.
Maybe I can, somewhere around halftime, I'll bring you some of that good
Krogerfield media room food and I'll already be tuned out and looking forward to the after
party.
That's perfectly fair.
Maybe some Krogerfield barbecue.
I mean to get your plate.
Yeah, yeah, bring it over.
Let me enter into a pork coma sometime in the third quarter.
That'd be perfect.
Did I see that they're also going to be serving the Rupp Arena ice cream at Kroger Field?
Did you see that, Drew?
I saw that, yeah.
You saw that, Tom?
Yeah, that's a thing.
I had to check that make sure it wasn't like a fake news source,
but I think they're actually going to have the Rup ice cream at Kroger Field.
We can bring it over to you like Jay Billis, Tom.
Yeah, no, that's a Billis thing.
Like, I've been pitched that before.
That's not my thing.
Like, I'm not a coattail writer, okay?
I mean, I'll have some.
I'm not afraid.
I'm not lactose intolerant.
But I am also not going to go on camera with it just because Billis does it.
Like let him have his stick.
What's one thing from Kentucky you would like to be presented at a game?
If you've eliminated ice cream,
but could we get you one of our nicest hot browns?
Or would you like a pony?
What would be your gift from Kentucky if you could pick one?
If I can't get a pony, and I don't know if he would fit in the overhead compartment,
I'm going to repeat what I said before.
I think if somebody wants to present me with a bottle of pappy for the, you know, post game or the, you know, take it back home with me.
I would not argue.
Aim high.
Look, yeah.
I want some pappy, you know.
If we come in, listen, if we come in anywhere underneath that, I'm still going to be happy.
Yeah, Bill is settled for ice cream.
Tom Hart wants a bottle of pappy.
Man, he deserves it.
Your eight is coming up.
Your eight, maybe someone will surprise you.
Well, I'm going to name you.
you are Don Franklin Auto Call of the Day.
We appreciate you from hearing from you, Tom.
Wait, do I get a car?
We'll work on it.
You know, we're not affording.
You just get bragging rights for the day.
You want patting a car?
What else can we do for you?
If you keep asking, I'm going to keep answering.
Well, it's good to hear from you.
We're looking forward to hearing from you for a couple hours tomorrow night during that game.
Good luck with everything, and I'll see you around the press box.
I hope it don't get two sideways.
I might be as dizzy as Ryan Lemon by the end of it.
Oh, wow.
You're getting better.
No, he's getting better.
He's on the men.
I think it's, I'm going to go fair.
It's okay.
I'll applaud it.
I'm uncomfortable.
Thanks, fellas.
You're doing a fantastic job.
Thank you.
Good to hear from you.
Tom and Atlanta right there, ladies and gentlemen.
You know, it was nice enough.
He did the whole summer.
Now, you know, he finally gets done with his summer assignment.
We've heard from him twice in three days.
Yeah, I love it.
Tom's ready to go.
I don't know if he's going to get that Pappies.
but maybe something more smaller.
I think he's calling in just to him around for Pappy.
Shannon, let's get one more in before we go to break.
All right, let's go to Kendall.
Kendall, thanks for calling in.
Okay, we've got to work on your phone connection, Kendall.
I think Kendall is trying to interview Dion Walker right now with that phone.
Yeah, that ain't going to work.
Kendall, try again.
I think you're in an elevator or something's not working there.
It's on your end.
We'll try again.
But we'll take a quick break.
Hopefully Kendall's on the other side of it.
We want to keep hearing from other fans who are
excited for Saturday on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line at 859-280-2287.
Maybe you're another college football broadcaster, celebrity.
You want them to call in?
We'll take it.
This is KSR.

Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person

Absolutely.

And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows.
Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted.

Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man,

All right, Drew.
That was beautiful.
Let's just go right back to the phone lines.
I hear they're full as we're all starting to fill this energy heading into Saturday.
Who's up next?
Let's go to Keith.
Keith, thanks for calling.
Tell us about your game day.
First off, Drew, we've done a great job the last three days.
Thank you.
I appreciate that.
Yeah.
You've asked the question about when we put our trailers and stuff out.
Usually we do ours the last weekend in July, first week in August.
We've been tailgate in the same spot for 20 years.
July 4th weekend in the blue lot, the only place it was taken was my spot.
So I had to put my stuff out right next door on the, I know it's first come, first serve,
but it's like, okay, out of all the places you had to pick.
So at my tailgate trailer, I've got two TVs in the tailgate trailer, our own private porta potty.
And this weekend we have got some smoke bologna that we're going to be doing eating on all day long.
We've got four racks of ribs that's going to go up for dinner along with a pork shoulder for some barbecue.
And so I think we should be good for the day.
Yeah, I'd say so.
I appreciate the call.
That sounds like a great setup.
I heard something he said there that no one else has said so far.
They have their own private porta potty.
Exactly.
Which is a great addition, right?
Or a new tellgate.
The best money I've ever spent in my entire life.
was on a port-a-body, not the engagement ring.
The entire life is my wife.
Shabby's going to love that comment.
No, it was the greatest investment ever.
I was on a bachelor party in the Talladega infield.
Okay.
I cannot say I recommend it, but we all got out alive.
But when we first got there, they were driving around with the truck,
and you could rent your own for the weekend.
And we all threw in 100 bucks each, something like that.
Best decision ever made.
I'm just seeing the scene of the Talladega infield and having our own safe space,
best money ever spent.
So the caller's name, I've already forgotten it.
He is doing it right at Krogerfield, Billy.
I'm envisioning a bachelor party at the Talladega infield.
That is not great.
Next level.
But to get a private porta potty, I think, would was probably your best move.
There was like 10 to 12 of us, and we made a pact.
Like everyone keep it clean, keep it spotless.
No one gets to run up and use it.
This is our own little palace, and it was worth every penny.
because Taladega it's a man's got to want it out there in Talladeg infield for a couple nights.
The NIL beer streaming and then you start streaming pretty constantly after that.
Something like getting up in the morning and showering with a bunch of strangers with no water pressure
and some big concrete block in the middle of the infield.
Great time, Shannon.
Yeah, and by the way, Tom Hart, if you're still listening, we've already got somebody tweeting us and you
with your bottle of Pappy Van Winkle.
I mean, asking you shall receive, right?
Life is good when you're Tom Hart.
You just get on the ear and say, I want a new car.
and I want Pappy Van Winkle.
And we don't have the car for you yet, Tom,
but somebody already has your bottle of Pappy.
I see, what the heck?
I want Pappy too.
What do you all want?
Is that how this works?
We just get on here and say,
I want a million dollars.
And somebody goes, oh, here you go.
Yeah, let's just all put out our Amazon wish list.
What is going on?
How did he pull that off so fast?
I don't know, but it's already there.
There's a picture of it on Twitter.
Congratulations, Tom.
Who's up next, next, Shannon?

Let's go to Kentucky Gasman.
Oh, this should be fun.
Gasman.

You should.

I really appreciate you guys.
And you make my two hours a day, well, three hours a day,
I listen to the pre show a lot too.
Go by, and I really appreciate what y'all do.
But the question I had is, I didn't know if you was going to ask this question that you're asking
today next week or not, so I wanted to get in on it real quick.
Me and two of my friends have got tickets to the South Carolina game next week.
And we're definitely going to take you in the, going to come back to KSR bar.
And I don't know, you know, I know it's a different time the game is next week.
But my question really is about the tailgating.
I've never really done the tailgating at the state.
stadium. I've always seen all these tents and stuff up, you know, and I figure they're private
stuff. What recommendation do you have? You know, I know I've seen something about Kroger or something
that if you bring a $30 or $35 receipt from Kroger, you can come to their tailgate and
I'll hang up to listen. Thank you. I appreciate the call. I don't know much about the
Kroger set up. I can look into that. We'll let you know after this break. We support
Crueger. They do great things. Former courtesy
clerk here, as I said earlier this week. But yeah, most
people have set their tents. They've been out there a long time.
And if you had a parking spot, you could
get there early and maybe put something up.
But the ones you've seen,
they first come, first
serve have been there for months.
We're going to take another break. We come back. More phone calls.
We're going to get some fun news around Kentucky.
This is KSR. Another podcast
from some SNL late night comedy guy.
Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert
Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious
guests from Bob Odenkirk to
David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an
a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

That's where SportsSlyce comes in.
I'm Timbo, in every episode, we're cutting through the noise,
breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline.
And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves.
Their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear.

Quarterback on office blue 42.
