Quarterback on office blue 42.
A rep, my mama wants you to wave at her.
What?

Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio,
presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back to KSR.
This is Drew Franklin.
It is not Matt Jones.
Matt's off in Colorado today.
and we have Ryan Lemon at home.
Getting a little better, right, Shannon?
Yeah, yeah, he's improving day by day, so he'll be back with us soon.
Yeah, getting back on his feet.
But Shannon and I are here.
We're with Billy Billio Rutledge, getting you ready for game day in Lexington tomorrow
when Kentucky plays Southern Miss at 755.
We're taking calls from callers to learn what they have lined up,
giving them a little grade for their tailgate setups.
Right now I want to start with a little UK news of another variety.
A few things going on in other sports.
We mentioned yesterday that Mark Pope attended the U.S. Open tennis tournament up in New York sitting in Djokovic's box.
Well, just a few hours after that yesterday, after we got done having that conversation, U.K. tennis alum, Gabriel Diallo, advanced to the third round.
He beat the 24 seed.
Arthur Fees, I think we're going to pronounce it.
F-I-L-S. I think it's Feas.
All right.
Yeah, but, I mean, that's a cat that just got into his professional career, pulled off a big upset to advance to the third round.
won five straight matches up there in New York.
He plays the number 14 seed tomorrow in the round of 32.
Diallo's ranked number 143 by the ATP, but this could be a big week for.
Hardy is that he's this far along, Billy.
Yeah, that's exciting.
You know, the tennis program's done great things over the last two years,
and now they're looking to continue that at the professional scene.
So Mark Pope getting a little face time at the U.S. Open the other day.
Diallo was an All-American at UK, and he was a part of the 2022 team that finished at the
up in the NCAA and the SEC tournament.
So we're rooting for him up there.
Maybe he can get in Arthur Ashe Stadium on the big stage,
make it farther in the field.
And then tonight, right, UK volleyball?
You're the volleyball spokesman over there, Billy.
It's tonight the season opener or soft opening, I think we're calling it.
That's right.
Memorial Coliseum.
Yeah.
So they took a tough loss of Nebraska,
but this will be an opportunity for the cats to start their season on the right track here.
Good learning lesson.
Nebraska.
They're the national runner-up.
They're number two.
beat Kentucky 3 to 1 earlier this week in Louisville,
but it's the soft opening of what,
I guess we have to call it historic Memorial Coliseum.
It's in every release.
It's on the website.
I guess we've got to do what they want us to do.
Just kind of like historic Davis Arena.
Shannon is always going to call it historic.
They will take on Northern Kentucky tonight at 6.30 p.m.
I think you can catch it on there.
I don't think I know you can catch it on the SEC Network Plus
as they're unveiling that about 80 million into Memorial.
Tonight you'll get to see it.
Fans going.
get, there's a towel and a bag giveaway.
Oh, is that right?
Yeah, you're going to go over there and get a towel and or a bag?
I'm going to have to go over to one of the practices one of these days.
Craig Skinner invited me over to see if I could dig out the ball from a spike from one of the girls.
I would love to see that.
Maybe bring Mario and get a video of it.
If you had been over there this morning from about 630 to 8, today was the open basketball tryouts.
That's right.
Oh, Mario just perked up.
Were you wanting to go?
Did you miss it?
Oh, you talked to some people?
Okay.
He forgot it was today.
He would have showed up and maybe balled a little bit.
It's only open to full-time students.
You've already graduated, got this full-time job where you're over there just making us look good on social media.
But have you heard any reports, Billy or Shannon, of what's come out of the tryouts?
You know anyone that went?
Any targets were watching?
No, I haven't.
But that would be a hell of a Rudy story if somebody were to make it on walkout tryouts at Kentucky.
And then, you know, eventually maybe getting a little bit of playing time.
That could be a movie one day.
but haven't heard anything yet, Shannon.
Do you think anybody can make it?
I mean, somebody might, but, you know, Dion Walker was, I guess, was he joking or was he, like, halfway serious about, like, wanting to be a part of the basketball team?
I know Stoops isn't going to allow that, but could you imagine, though, just having Dion out there.
Just put them in the middle and throw the ball into Dion and just let them clear out the lane.
Bill, you had a little bit of basketball news.
You had your, we mentioned it before earlier this week.
We were looking ahead to you bringing Travis Perry in here for your all's, your, your,
guess you were both on this.
It was a radio commercial, I assume.
Were you both on it?
How did it work out?
What was Travis like?
Two celebs, Travis Perry and Billy R. Sports.
I didn't see him with the stars last night.
He was not there, not a celebrity host last night.
But we are both endorsing Funky Rooster Coffee,
which is Lexington made a package and roast the coffee right in Lexington.
And so what better partner for then Travis Perry to have?
But he came into the studio and we recorded some spots.
And while we were doing that, I got to talk to Travis a little bit.
a little inside information.
And I had like three or four takeaways if I can run through them real quick, if you want me to do that.
I would love for you to run through them.
Well, the first is Mark Pope is a big FaceTime guy.
He's not going to text you.
He's not going to FaceTime you out of the blue.
And I know somebody like Shannon, the dude, probably hates that.
Shannon, am I right?
Yeah, I mean, I like a regular phone call.
FaceTiming seems a little extreme, you know, like you don't need to know exactly what I'm doing.
But it's kind of like Dad checking in on his kids, right?
You want to see where they're supposed to be.
So you can see that with a FaceTime call.
Yeah, much more personal, right, Drew?
I mean, if you're recruiting some kids, you want to look them in the eye,
make sure they're not out at the club, I guess.
But a big FaceTime guy.
I don't think I could be a FaceTime guy.
I don't want to be FaceTimed.
Just don't even call me.
Is that bad?
Is that bad?
Text me.
Yeah, I'm with you.
If FaceTime's coming, it needs to be set up.
Hey, can I FaceTime you?
I'm not just out of the blue.
But apparently Mark Pope is.
If someone just FaceTime's you, say it's 10 o'clock in night.
Decline.
And it's not family.
It's not a parent or a sibling.
I would probably let it ring so they think, oh, he just doesn't have his phone around.
Not a quick decline, but probably not answering it.
I just don't need to see your chin and up your nostrils and all that.
There are people that just walk around FaceTiming and talking.
That is crazy to me.
I have no interest in doing that.
That's the new generation.
Maybe Mark Pope's tapping into that a little bit.
A couple more things.
Travis Perry said Andrew Carr has become the dad of the team.
We learned Kellen Grady becoming the granddad, Andrew Carr,
kind of the more serious guy in practice.
I could see that.
And then Kirk Creeza, of course, being the funniest guy,
not really class clown, but having the best sense of humor.
And then I had to ask Travis, I was like,
you know, is Kentucky really going to have, shoot 33s a game in this new offense?
And he said, no, Billy, 35.
Oh, three is a game.
They keep saying 35.
And there must be drill on that number.
I mean, it must be a number they're trying to reach.
Corey Price said the most that they average in a season Kentucky has is 28.
So, I mean, looks like we could be breaking a.
another Kentucky record with Mark Pope this year.
Can you break the news? Does Travis still have that awesome mustache?
He does. Two best mustaches in the Commonwealth of Kentucky took a picture,
and I posted it on my Facebook and Twitter the other day.
If you want to check out what Travis has got going on.
I love it. It's not Travis Perry coming in here. It's the Billy and Travis show,
and the two best mustachees.
Well, you know, that's how things happen on the postgame show.
After the Cats beat Southern Miss, you can tune in to the Billy R Sports and Matt Jones Postgame show.
You deserve it. You deserve it.
Shana, let's get to the phone lines.
I hear they're full, and more people will.
want to talk about their catter day.
Let's go to Gary on Orlando.
Oh, Gary.
What's going on and down in Florida tomorrow?
Well, we're breaking in a new BWW tomorrow.
It's at 11-400 University Boulevard.
It's out by University's Central Florida campus.
We're relocating.
They're giving us a huge room.
We're expecting a nice crowd.
We're the faraway tailgate party indoors.
And we'll have music.
Do the Bluetooth to play a little exile.
You like that exile, don't you, Shannon?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
I just talked to those guys just last week.
Introduced them up on stage.
Yeah, they're awesome.
But we'll play a little exile pregame.
Of course, when the game starts, we'll have our own cheerleaders.
We do a lot of decorations.
We put up banners, football helmets, all that stuff.
And for anybody listening that's traveling in Orlando from Kentucky,
if you show up and whoever comes from the farthest away,
I'm paying their tab for the night.
Will they have one beer or 10?
Will they have 10 wings or 100?
I'm paying their tab.
And last but not least,
just like all parties at BWW,
we always in with my old Kentucky home.
And who knows,
there might be some shots of moonshine being passed around.
Uh-oh.
Have a great day, guys.
Appreciate the call, Gary.
We love hearing from you.
Appreciate that generosity, too, to whoever gets to, you know, get that free tab off Gary.
Yeah, very nice.
And I love the image of Gary and Orlando leading my old Kentucky home after Big Cats win at BW3s.
Yeah, you got to have a little exile to warm you up for my own Kentucky home.
Excile?
Then you finish strong, yeah.
Jenny, you want to rate that setup?
I mean, I guess he's tying in all the Kentucky flavors from Florida, so I'll give him credit for that.
He doesn't have a KS bar in Florida.
so, you know, he had to go to another sports bar, but, you know, maybe not the best, but not bad.
I'll give it like a, I'll give it a B minus.
Probably the worst food option we've heard.
Yeah, like if we're comparing like, you know, where he's at versus, you know, out in your garage or maybe out in, you know, the parking lot with pork butt and everything else that, you know, you're slow cooking on the grill.
You can't really compare that to a restaurant quality food.
The caller earlier that mentioned smoked baloney.
I think I might do that today.
I'm going to the Douglas game tonight.
Douglas plays Trinidad.
Hey, that's a big game.
That's number two versus number three in the state.
I'm having my own little tailgate with some bologna.
That sounded good.
And you live close enough to where you're, it's like you're at the game.
I'm a part of practice.
We had this discussion on KS board.
It can be a little weird if you're all in on a high school that you didn't go to and you don't have a kid there.
You know, it's kind of feel like you have to cheer for the team where you went, right?
Well, kind of, yeah, but you're just supporting the local team.
The neighborhood team for you, you're right there.
When I wake up every morning to them stretching to Lil Yadi and all the hits of today,
why are you laughing, Mario?
When I hear them practicing and I'm pouring my coffee, I feel like I'm a part of what's going on over there.
So I'm excited for that game tonight.
Like I said, I might have myself a little tailgate.
It sounded a little bit like our previous Fade This episode where we broke down the hip-hop game.
Yeah, listen to Fade This.
I guess we're not going to have one this week with Matt off.
Kind of an important week to do.
I know.
I'm ready.
I'm right here.
We can do it right now, but he's off in a midsummer night's dream or whatever he's doing
out there.
He'll be back tonight, though.
We'll be looking forward to having him on the pregame show.
Who's up next, Shannon?
Let's go to Steph.
Steph, thanks for calling in.
Hey, guys.
First and foremost, I want to say my mom had surgery today.
Her surgery was successful.
She had a heart defibrillator and a pacemaker put in.
Well, we're glad to hear it went well.
We'll still be thinking of you and her on her recovery.
How are you doing?
Yep.
I'm doing good.
I had a bad day at work yesterday, but I'm looking forward to this game tomorrow night.
I get off at 4.30, so I'm going to grab a drink and come home and watch the game.
Ah, Steph letting her hair down.
Yeah, you know what, Steph?
I had a bad day at work yesterday, too.
But you know what we did?
we got up today with a smile on our face
and we're looking forward to tomorrow.
So we appreciate the call.
Hey, Drew.
Yes.
Hey, Drew.
How'd you think about our Titans preseason?
I mean, I think they might be the best team in football in the preseason.
Yeah.
Yeah, 4-0.
We won last week, too.
Shannon, we sent you our backup quarterback as well.
Oh, yeah, thanks for that.
We won't need them, but I appreciate it.
Well, thank you, Steph.
Good to hear from you.
Yep.
Shannon, speaking of quarterbacks, your favorite quarterbacks.
A little fun Southern Miss fact.
I was going to do some Southern Miss trivia, but we've got some of many calls.
I don't know if we'll get to it.
But did you know Brett Farv?
Your childhood, childhood, I can't talk today.
Childhood Idol is a Southern Miss alum.
I do know that.
I seem to remember a replay of Brett Farv throwing like a bomb.
I think he beat U of L in that game.
Did he not? Do you know what I'm talking about?
I think it was against U.S.
Before he robbed the local economy with fraud.
later in life.
We don't talk about that.
He was a legend down there.
What?
Am I wrong?
Before he sent pictures to people.
Your mic's cutting out.
I can't hear you, Drew.
Another Southern Miss alum, I wish Max Duffy were here,
but did you all know, Ray Guy, of the Ray Guy Award,
made his, he became punting famous at Southern Miss.
Wow, I never knew that.
So two football legends with KSR connections there went to Southern Miss.
Did you even know it's in Hattiesburg, Mississippi?
I didn't.
I'm semi-expecting Matt to call in and ask me to look up the town and get somebody on the line.
We're going to have you call the Chamber of Commerce.
And Nick Mullen is my only Southern Miss.
There you go to them that I know.
What about Frank Gore Jr.?
Who just blowing up in the NFL as a rookie?
He did some good things there.
Also, I had to Google this because I keep seeing it on their T-shirts.
Forgive me if this was common knowledge.
Their shirts say S-M-T-T-T-T.
And I just kept putting it off like, I don't really know, should I know.
I finally Googled it this morning.
Did you all even know what this is?
Their thing is Southern Miss to the top.
So we're probably going to see a lot of that.
That's like their hashtag.
That's their thing.
So get ready for a lot of SMTTT, Shannon.
That's a little weird.
Yeah, I mean, I guess if they know what it means,
I guess we do too now because we have a curiosity,
I don't know, I see SMTTT.
I feel like it's like smut.
I try hard to guess it before I finally surrendered to Google.
That's kind of weird.
Like, why they get smut on their shirts.
Well, hopefully we don't see too much of it here.
We want to see more of Kentucky around the tailgates,
not the visiting yellow and black.
And after this break,
we want to hear more of the callers
and what they have planned on Saturday.
This is KS.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.

Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist,
Kyr Games.
And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field
and conversations with so many incredible guests.
I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough
because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth,
or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.
Join me, Kear Gaines,
is we have real conversations about healing,
growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose
on my new podcast.

What's up, fam?
It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm CJ Toledano,
and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs
without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows.
Without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges
of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by,
like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get to flying.
He running up the court,
licking his fingers, why he got the ball, like,
after you go through a training camp
with that, Isaiah,
You figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, guys?
This is Clever Taylor the Fourth.
And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, Wreck, my mama want you to weigh better.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.
Listen to the Clifford show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Hey, I'm Jared Adano.
You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet.
Help! Somebody! Please!
But there's so much more to me than me.
I'm an actor.
I'm a comedian, and recently I've become quite the helper myself.
And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions.
Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice.
Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man.
If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice.
One Ring is too scary.
Oh, cream of chicken suit.
Hey, cream.
Cream a chicken suit.
This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know.

There's some exile for Gary and Orlando.
Continuing on here at Kentucky Sports Radio, this segment is sponsored by Shady Ray.

at shady raise.com. They've got over
250,000 five-star
reviews, Drew, shady raise.
It's a lot. It's a lot. I had my shady
rays on on the way in today.
I love our shady rays, and I love our
callers. Let's just go right back to the phone bank, Shannon.
All right, let's go to Shelby.
Hey, Shelby.
Hey, what's up, guys?
What's up?
So we're going to be starting
the morning off. That's going to be
throwing a smoke baloney or smoke
Blaney and then a fourth shoulder on the pitballs.
From there, we're going to go play 18 holes at Eagle Creek Country Club.
Playing some SEC Nation on the speaker.
Maybe have some John Daly's on the courts.
There you go.
And then from there, we're coming back home, and my wife will have a bunch of finger foods
and we're ready to go.
That's a full day right there, guys.
I mean, you play 18, then you come home and you watch the game.
That's a lot going on.
Yeah, I used to work.
that course too. Oh, how about that? Any tips
you got for them where we let him go?
Number seven, you're going to hate yourself
on number seven. That's the worst one.
It's a tough hole.
Yeah. Well, we appreciate the call.
It sounds like a fun day. I like the
getting up early.
Yep, but
cats by 90. Love it.
Cats by 90. Maybe even more. We'll see.
I like that getting up, getting the meat
on the smoker early. Go playing some
golf with dad. Come home. You got finger food ready.
Sounds like a great day, Shannon.
Hey, sounds good to me.
I mean, so far, I mean, I'm just wanting to get invited to any of these tailgate parties.
They're doing it better than what I'll be doing tomorrow.
The food sounds great.
I didn't know how hungry this was going to make you.
Yeah.
Who's up next?
All right, let's try Kendall, hopefully with a better connection this time.
There we go. Get out of that tunnel.
Hey, guys.
There he is.
I'm going to hear me better than right now.
Oh, yeah.
I am going to be like most, maybe like a lot of fans watching the game at home.
I got the, I'm going to have the quad box on YouTube TV like Drew was
talking about earlier.
You've got a question about, and I'm excited to get to a game here later in the year,
but I want to know about an away game.
If you are a UK fan, on our schedule this year, what's the, maybe your top three away
games that you would want to go to this year based on, like, the city and like how awesome
the game's going to be and, like, definitely our chance to win.
I'll hang up and listen, guys.
Thanks.
All right.
Thank you.
We appreciate the call.
The second attempt at the call.
Glad to hear from you.
Some good ones, Billy.
I mean, I'm a lover of Oxford.
Oxford with the we're talking about tailgating today.
That's got to be up there with the Grove.
I mean, Texas, right?
I'm going to Texas.
I'm not doing Oxford.
They messed with us with another noon game, which is 11 local.
It's what it was two years ago.
That's what it was 13 years ago.
It just puts a little bit of a damper on the pregame experience,
but that's still my favorite place.
Ole Miss is pretty special.
Hope a lot of Kentucky fans get down there.
And if you're looking for number three,
I mean, Kentucky has eight home games this year.
So you're picking between Florida,
Tennessee.
Tennessee would be a great atmosphere, but you have to walk around and breathe the same air as
Tennessee fans.
So I'm going to put that forth.
I've never been to the swamp.
But with Kentucky having the better team this year, we don't know what Florida is going to be.
That could be a fun one and go in there and watch Kentucky win one in Gainesville,
which they've done a few times recently.
Yeah, might be a little humid, but you know what?
Kentucky's had a lot of success over the Gators lately, so it might be a good time to go down there
and maybe see a historic win on the road.
I've been to Austin one time, but it was for a wedding.
one of those weddings where I didn't know anyone. Abby was a bridesmaid and, you know, she's off
hair and makeup. Yeah, that's a tough one. You're on your own. So I was basically just by
myself all day, which should have been fun, but my hotel had an awesome rooftop pool. I just
never left it. So I'd, even though I've been in Austin and I kind of looked at it from a distance,
I never really made it to Rainy Street and all the hits. So I'm ready. This is actually like my
rookie trip coming up. I'm excited for you guys. You know, Matt spends a lot of time there,
so maybe you can give us some tips on where to go. Yeah, I'm doing a little Thursday to Sunday.
there's a basketball game Friday nights.
We're going to have a little watch party somewhere.
There's like a nice stretch there where like Reed Shepherd plays and then Will Levis, right?
Titans on Sunday.
Don't know if I can pull that one off.
That's getting aggressive.
Who's up next, Shannon?
Let's go to Joseph.
Joseph, thanks for calling in.
Hey, what's up, guys?
I don't have a tailgate anything like that, but I got invited to the game this morning.
I've never been to KS. bars, so I'm going to try to get everybody out there,
eat some chicken wings, drink some Kentucky blue light.
and get out to Krogerfield, and I think the cat's 1-35.
Love it. That's the attitude.
We're looking forward to seeing you at the bar tomorrow.
I might make a whole day out of it, watch some of those first games for the pregame show that goes live at 3.30.
Mario, you're going to be out there?
We haven't had Mario before.
Maybe we'll do some video, capture the scene, but hoping we have a lot of fans there should be a fun day at KS Bar.
Who's up next, Shannon?
Let's go to Peanut.
Peanut.
Whoa, Peanut. That's too much.
He's always on the heavy equipment.
Doing great once my hearing comes back.
Yeah, well, I'm going down to my condo in Boka
here as soon as I get out working about a half an hour.
Oh, nice.
I'm going to be fishing for barracuda at 6 o'clock in the morning,
and hopefully I'm smoking barracuda for the game,
but if not, I got rib-eybats and crab legs on the back burner.
You got room for me on the way to Boka?
That sounds like fun.
Bacuda.
Anytime, anytime.
We've always got that fair run.
How often do you barracuda hunt or whatever you do to barracuda?
I go across the street, the inter-coastal waters, and I fish for my bait fish there,
and then I go out on the beach and go out and wait a deep and catch it out there,
and I catch sharks and barracuda all the time.
That sounds like a unique game day.
We appreciate the call, and you calling it and sharing that.
If I were you out even stopped by, Gary in Orlando's,
party and maybe you could be the farthest travel to take them up on that tab.
You could get 100 beers and 100 wings and then go barracuda hunting.
I don't know how much barracuding.
I've had barracuda to eat.
I can say I've had none.
I've ever had it before.
Is that going to be our most unique submission to this game we're playing here today?
I think it is.
It's going to be tough to beat.
We have any more?
We have a break.
What's going on?
We've got about a minute.
We may be able to do one more.
Yeah, let's get one more.
Okay, Amy, go ahead.
Hey, guys.
Good morning.
I just wanted to share a quick story.
I was an eight year, eight or nine years season,
a tailgator in the orange lot until we moved out of the state
and loved it, my favorite thing about fall.
I just wanted to share a story real quick.
Several years ago, I don't know if it was 17 or 18
when we played down at Southern Miss.
My husband and I went down there without a plan,
just kind of walking around.
And that tailgate atmosphere was amazing.
Some of the nicest people,
everyone was inviting us into their tailgate.
So, you know, I just wanted to say anybody up there tomorrow
sees any of their fans walking around.
invite them into your tailgate, give them some good brown water that we have up there and some good
eats and just welcome them to our state.
That's a good attitude to have.
We appreciate the call.
We always want to be hospitable to opposing fans, especially non-conference.
And Hattiesburg is a fun place.
So they are nice people.
We're looking forward to having them.
Not too many of them, though.
We'll take another break.
We come back.
We'll get more of your phone calls.
This is KSR.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now more of Kentucky Sports.
radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back to KSR, Drew Franklin.
Let's talk a little Stockton Mortgage.
Not sure if you're eligible for a home loan, Billy.
You sure if you're eligible?
I'm in the market.
Good. It's a good time to buy right now. Have you ever heard that?
Spring home buying season is just around the corner, as Ryan Lemon would say.
If you're thinking of buying, you need to get pre-approved.
So when that right house comes along, you're ready to make an offer.
And our friends at Stockton Mortgage are your go-to for your home loan needs with 75.
branches and locations in Kentucky and beyond.
They're licensed in 28 states, and they're always doing what?
They're growing.
Perfect.
Stockton mortgage isn't just about helping people find homes.
They're lending a helping paw to help dogs and cats find their forever home, forever home, maybe with you.
Partnered with Life House for Animals, you can go to the Stockton Mortgage Facebook page
where they'll feature a dog or cat available for adoption each week.

or go to Stockton.com, NMLS 8259 Equal Housing Lender.
Keep it in tongue-tied today.
I think it's because normally on the show,
I'm not used to speaking for longer than two sentences at a time.
That's it.
This has been three days of a lot of me yapping on this program.
Yep.
It requires a little show prep as well.
I've done some show prep.
In fact, let's get right to it.
I have a fun game I want to play.
It's a little late getting to it.
I want to do it in the first hour.
But yesterday, a study named the rudest cities in America.
I'm hoping you all didn't peek at this because I'm going to quiz you a little bit.
Not Googling it either, so don't accuse me if I get it right.
Do not Google it, Shannon.
I have the top 10.
I just want to see if you all get five of the top 10, if you want to fire off some guesses.
These are pretty major cities.
I want to go first.
I'm going to say New York's got to be on there.
New York is not in the top 10.
What?
We always hear about how rude New Yorkers are.
The New Jersey has to be on there.
Listen, New Yorkers aren't rude.
They're wonderful people.
Mario's over here smiling.
he used to live up there. It's New York, they're great. They don't like to hold doors for you. They don't
like small talk. They'll run you over. Other than that, they're not too bad. Okay, so Jersey. Is Jersey on there?
That's a state, but no, it's not on there. Billy, you got a guess. Philly.
Philly, there we go. Number two. Okay, it's cities. Okay, I thought you just said, okay.
Did I say states? I don't know. I misunderstood the game. Okay, so we're saying cities.
cities, okay. Apologies if I said states. We'll reset the 10 rudest cities in America.
Let's keep it going with Chicago. Also, not in the top 10. L.A.
Not the top 10. We're bad at this. You give you one more.
Miami is number one. Look at Billy. Billy getting number one and number two.
You want to contribute, Shannon? I mean, I'm trying here. I mean, how is L.A. and I don't understand
how L.A. is not on there.
I'll just go down the order, unless you have one more.
Let's see.
Billy is on fire.
Coming in at number four.
In the root of cities in America, Louisville, Kentucky is number four.
It goes Miami, Philadelphia, Ryan Lemon's Tampa.
Tampa, that's where I'm from.
Yeah, where Billy's from, Tampa.
And then Louisville.
Shannon, the dude, you are a Louisville resident,
or formerly we're a Louisville resident now just on the outskirts.
but do you agree that it is the fourth rudest city in our nation?
No, and I want to know like where they did this survey,
because I don't think,
I think that there's a lot of good southern hospitality throughout Kentucky everywhere.
I don't think that Louisville is a rude city.
Here's some of the guidelines on this study.
Lack of self-awareness,
talking on a speakerphone in a shared space,
we talked about that earlier, being allowed in a shared space,
lack of care for others.
Do you all not care for others, Shannon?
No, not at all.
No.
closed off body language.
Doesn't say anything about punching local
radio hosts while they're attending a game at your
arena. But Billy,
I guess you're not too surprised you guessed,
but I thought four,
a lot of good people in Louisville. They're the ones wearing
blue. I understand that the Cardinals fans
probably add to this ranking, but fourth,
insulting our great state.
Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I do like how the rankings
are including talking on your speaker
phone around other people, because that is
a rude thing to do. That and
like, if you're on an airplane, like, I don't want to hear your
phone conversation at all. But yeah, Louisville. They also say not respecting people's personal space
or hygiene, impoliteness with service staff members, not letting others merge in front of them while
driving. These are all the things that went into Louisville being among the worst, but I found that
interesting. Of all the annoyances that you see on a daily basis, maybe you see, notice something's rude,
what annoys you the most? People on their speaker phones? Yeah, speaker phone is up there for me.
That's why I kind of highlighted it because I don't want to hear your conversation. And I don't care if
you're on FaceTime or not. Mark Pope.
I feel like we've gotten a place in the world where people just walk wherever they want.
We used to have a nice little and get a little bit to the right.
We don't need you walking four deep in crowded spaces.
Now I just think people, there's no order in society.
We're just running over everyone.
If you ever go to an airport, it's chaos, not just because what's going on with flights.
But I just feel like we don't know how to walk around together anymore.
Does that make sense?
You ever deal with that?
Yeah, a little bit.
I think COVID kind of reset our like social interactions with everybody.
now we're all, I think, a little worse talking to other people.
Also control your children in restaurants.
We were talking about that at the pre-show the other day.
I heard you had a fun little incident.
You know, kids running around the restaurant, I was getting ready to say something.
I didn't want to be that guy, though.
Yeah, we wouldn't want you causing a story.
That'd be a good problem for Matt to have.
That'd be a good radio topic, though, good content for the show.
If you want to run around a restaurant, I'll remind you tomorrow.
Go to KS. Bar and Grill, 3.30 for the pre-game show.
Cats, 755 versus Southern Miss, 27-point favorite.
Shannon, who's next on the phone line?
to hear what they're doing tomorrow. Rob, what's up, Rob?
Good morning, guys. Thanks for taking the call.
Not doing a tailgate per se, but my son, Connor, and his fiance, Caroline, and I,
were hitting the Lexington, plan on going to the bar, watch a few games and so forth.
My question is, how soon should I get there to get a seat,
and then what time will the shuttles be leaving to take us over to Kroger Field?
These are all great questions. It's hard to put an exact time on when to be there.
the call because I don't want to tell you something that it just go madness because sometimes it can be
very crowded but I think you'd be safe by by one even a little later after one it all just depends
there's usually a big wave we get people coming for lunch and then they want to go over and tailgate
and everything kind of resets again so it's kind of a crapshoot but I'd say if you're there by one you'd be
in pretty good shape but even if you're later you know there's standing room show will be going on
people gather the outside's fun just to hang out so I might not might not guarantee you a table
but it'll still be a good time there, Billy.
Yeah, and then, you know, a lot of people clear out.
So it's like if you come closer to the game,
there's even some tables available.
And I think we as a fan base have figured out the tickets that are on our phone.
Because remember when we changed to that and the delays at the gate were just incredible.
Yeah, but we're looking forward to a fun day out there.
And who's it?
Who's next, Shannon?
Let's go to Brandon.
Brandon, what's up?
Hey.
Hey, what's up, guys?
How y'all doing?
Excellent.
Awesome, awesome.
Hey, I'm a day behind with the podcast, but I heard you all talking about tailgate yesterday.
And I was going to shout out a tailgate that you should come check out over in the blue lot for the State Line Co.
Hat Company, one of my buddies has recently started, giving away some free stuff.
It's going to be pretty dope.
Some pretty dope hats.
I don't know if you all have seen the upside down Kentucky that's been going around Twitter X or whatever.
but I think they're going to have some of those to give away.
But yeah, if you go around, you should definitely come check it out.
All right.
We appreciate the call.
We will check that out.
Big hat guy.
I've been rocking hats lately.
I am too.
I have not seen that hat yet.
I don't even know which one I have on.
What is it?
Just Kentucky.
Oh yeah, this one's new.
I was going to save it for game day, but today it's already feeling like game
day, so I had to put this on.
We've been asking callers what their ideal tailgates like.
Billy, you work all day and can't tailgate.
I know you can't make it either, Shannon.
But if you were out there, what do you?
what are you eating what are you having in the cup billy uh in the cup is country boy brewing of
course or if somebody is popping champagne if they want to go a little mimosa action i just got to
pace myself a little bit don't want to be tucked into bed like andy was before that one game um
i'm really digging the private porta potty move i mean if i'm going to a tailgate i feel like
that's a must it's luxury unless you're waiting in line with amongst them but when it comes
to food of barracuda's not available i feel like that uh just the standard hamburger hot dog is
for me. But I do appreciate the people
that sit there all day and
smoke something. That's commitment too, man.
Like, I don't have the patience for that.
I'm with you, Billy. If I'm going on
a grill, it's going to be like burgers, brats,
hot dogs, stuff like that that's easy. That can be
done in 20 minutes and some beer.
I mean, that's all you need, right? Yeah, commend
the commitment. Make sure that there's a
couple TVs out there. That's
ideal for me, but I will be
stuck in the studio all day. So you have to come say
hello at some point, Drew. I feel like, I won't
but I'll talk to you through the headset. Well, I have
I got a busy day.
Game days are very long.
But if I were tailgating, I feel like every spread needs a good dip.
Got to have some kind of dip.
Like French onion dip or like bean dip?
Really?
I'm a dip guy.
I won't even ask what's in it.
I'll just grab a chip and go right in for it and figure it out later.
Those can be a little warm on game days I've found.
Yeah, any kind of cheesy dip, some salsa.
I can take down a jar of sauce.
Then you've got to go with a hot dog.
Find me a hot dog.
That's all I need.
I'm not too picky.
to smoke meats doing the whole long day thing, but sometimes just a hot dog get you through
it. Yeah, absolutely. What song is Billy playing? What song? Yeah, we were, Gary was talking about
having the Bluetooth. What are you playing? Say it's an hour from kickoff. Fives are just getting
right where they need to be. You're hitting your stride. You know you're about to walk in and
in just a little bit. Everybody's feeling good. What are you turning on? Groh Street doesn't count.
Yeah, if we've already gone through Waka-Flocka and maybe the Drake and Kendrick beef,
probably a little Dixieland delight, Drew. That's what gets me going. I know.
know that's a popular song and other SEC
fan bases, but it's something close
to my heart. So a little Dixieland a lot for me.
Shannon, let's assume you're not having a live
Alice Blue Gound concert at a tailgate. What are you playing?
Some ACDC always get you in the mood. You know, for those
about the rock, Thunderstruck, really you can't go wrong with anything
ACDC to get you pumped up for a game.
What about you? Thunderstruck is a tailgating song.
Oh, yeah. You might play a little Thunderstruck tomorrow.
If you don't hear that tomorrow, then something's wrong. I mean, that should be a part of
every tellgate. What about you, Drew?
Actually, Thunderstark.
I'm just going to steal that answer.
I need a little more hip-hop.
I like a little rap before I head into a game.
Yeah.
Maybe go back to a little early, a little Wayne.
Maybe the Carter 2.
It doesn't really fit the atmosphere, but that's what gets me fired up.
Mario gave me two thumbs up, so I'm going to take that as approval.
We're going to take a quick break.
We've got one more left.
We're going to do some picks, maybe some props, maybe talk a little high school football,
but we'll tie a bow on this week and get ready for game day.
This is KSR.
Last night, a blown call changed the game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where SportsSlice comes in.
I'm Timbo.
Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies,
and the stories behind the headlines.
We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions,
the stuff nobody gets to hear.
The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real.
From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls,
calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.

I'm talking.
Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
Because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth.
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

What's up, fam?
It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the
lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stopped by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah.
You figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, guys?
This is Clever Taylor the Fourth.
And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show,
I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Quarterback on office blue 42.
Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.

Welcome back to KSR.
Playing a little thunderstruck for those who know that game.
I'm a little thrown off, Billy.
I feel like I need a solo cup in my hand or something to sip on.
Yeah, and you always get, there's one person that gets stuck with the long wait from the one thunder,
then the back to the end, thunder.
You don't want to be that guy.
Fun times.
Also fun times.
Draft King Sportsbook.
Just saw starting today, the bonus has gone up, getting you ready for college football,
promo code KSR, new Draft King's customers bet $5 to get $250 and bonus bets instantly.
Shannon, that went up, right?
Yeah, I think I said 200 earlier, and today it goes up to $250.
So a little extra bonus to get you ready for the games this weekend.
Well, let's go and pick some games.
Stay around the SEC, it's what we know a little bit.
There are already a couple last night.
Missouri covered their like 48 point spread, winning 51 and nothing.
I do not know what the Arkansas spread was, but they won 70 to nothing.
so I'm going to assume that Arkansas
covered that one. But a big game
coming up tomorrow at noon, number one
Georgia versus number 14
Clemson being played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Should be fans from both sides there. Easy drive
to get to Atlanta. Billy, I'm going to start
with you. We're just going to pick against the spread.
We'll make it quick. Georgia is a 12-point favorite.
I'm going Georgia. I'm so tired of Davos-Schick,
and I think we're going to keep seeing that decline.
So let's go Georgia here, 12.
I've got to go Clemson.
that this, not only against the points for, I think that Clemson could actually shock everybody
and pull off a win tomorrow. So I'm going Clemson.
This was 13 and a half yesterday and I was thinking about Clemson, but moving a point in a half.
I'm still going to stick with Clemson too. Even though Georgia has maybe the best quarterback
in the country, Brock Bowers has gone. They've got to see what playing offense is like without
that machine. All right. Well, you bet against Georgia at your own peril.
I'm going to skip Vanderbilt because it's part of our parlay. But Shannon, don't forget, we have
them plus 14 against Virginia Tech in Nashville, big game.
That's right.
Yep.
The cranes are ready.
Cranes are ready.
Let's do.
Number 15, Tennessee, boo, hosting Chattanooga in Knoxville.
Tennessee laying 38 and a half to the mocks.
That's a lot.
A little in-state rivalry between the two teams.
I got to go Tennessee here, Drew.
I don't know if you like that answer, but I think they cover the 38.
Yeah, I've learned my lesson picking against these huge spreads and going with the
underdogs.
So I'm going to go Tennessee.
I'm going Tennessee.
They're a bunch of jerks and will try to run up to score
and embarrass Chattanooga.
That's just their brand.
They've got a new quarterback they're excited about.
They're going to try to throw it around the yard and score 100 points.
I'll say Tennessee covers.
Skip another one that's in the parlay.
Don't forget we have Florida plus three hosting Miami.
Billy, you're hilltoppers.
What are you all doing playing Alabama?
Are you all nuts?
Kalin DeBore's first and last game at Alabama after they lose to Western Kentucky.
The tops are going into Brian Denny.
How are you feeling?
31 and a half. It's not too bad.
31 and a half.
You know, it could very easily slip away from the guys,
but I think that there's going to be some fight.
Who knows what to expect with Kalin DeVore?
Come on, give me the hilltoppers.
Not going to pick against my team.
Let's go here.
31.
Bama wins by 51.
I'm going to take Bama.
I knew that was coming.
What do you got, Drew?
I like Western, but I think Alabama covers.
They're going to try to make a little splash and get that Nick Sabin pressure
off their back early and have a big convincing win.
Western's played them close in years past.
So they're getting paid $2 million to play that game, too.
Crazy.
We have Texas A&M covering against Notre Dame in our parlay,
so you're not allowed to pick that one.
You all are all A&M fans.
It's mandatory.
Don't forget to bet that.
It's on the app.
Our little faces are up there telling you where to go,
betting that four-teamer.
And on Sunday, another big game,
number 13, LSU versus number 23 USC.
They're playing this in the gigantic toilet bowl in Las Vegas,
the Raiders Stadium.
Yeah, I got to go Brian Kelly here.
Give me a little LSU.
I'm not a big fan of what they're doing at USC.
They just lost Caleb Williams, so maybe a little rebuilding there,
even though they didn't have a great year last year.
So give me, go Tigers.
Yeah, only four points.
I thought the spread would be a little bit bigger than that.
I'm going to take LSU.
It's going to be a good game.
I'm looking forward to this one.
We get on a Sunday night.
I'm just hoping it's a good game.
I'll say USC covers the four.
Comes down to a field goal either way.
I'll say LSU wins by a field goal.
USC covers the spread.
We have the Kentucky game.
27 points, Fred.
We're not going to talk about that one, though.
Draft Kings, one of my favorite things to do on there is first touchdown score bets, big in the NFL.
I don't think we're even allowed to do that here in Kentucky.
It's not listed for tomorrow's game, but I'm going to make you all pick it anyway.
We don't have odds, so you know, you can pick someone that might be a favorite.
But tomorrow, when Kentucky finds the end zone for the first time, who's it going to be for the first TD score of the game?
Well, if I'm going first, I'm doing it in honor of our guy, Ryan Lemon, that's not here.
Dane Key, the start of his
Heisman campaign starts tomorrow.
Give me him to be our first touchdown score
with a little big throw from Brock Vandergriff
to get the season started. Barry on Brown,
no question about it. He's going to be the first one.
I don't think they're going to kick it to him, but I
think that he'll be the, he'll catch one from Brock.
I'm going Brock Van deroghruff using
his legs. Running. Yeah, it doesn't count
if he throws it. That's how it works. It's got to be the receiver.
But I'm going to say a ground touchdown, running
touchdown for Brock Van. Probably get good odds.
Yeah, I wish you...
Something that.
I like the touchdown bets.
Hope all our guys score touchdown tomorrow.
It's a blowout and they cover that 27.
Billy, speaking of Brock Vandergriff, did you see that Hilton commercial yesterday?
Oh, yes, with Maxwell Harrison, right?
And I guess they're helping him to his room.
I thought it was really good, actually.
One of the better NIL commercials I've seen, including them saying at the end,
hey, NIL is a thing.
Where's our tip after they escorted him to the hotel room?
So I thought that was a good one.
It's hard to talk about a video on radio, but they really
did a good job making a commercial for the Hilton
with all due respect to Reed and Rob
and their pizza ad last year with the
white t-shirts and the
clearly reading it off the train.
The NIL game has gotten much better
in video. I think Epic Films did it. They also
did our Super Bowl commercials, Shannon.
So you're familiar with that crew? Oh yeah,
those guys do a great job. They did a great
job on that commercial as well.
Yeah, step up from a couple of guys
looking like they're being held hostage in an elevator
which we got from Reed
in Dillingham last year. But yeah, I thought that was
good really well done that's what an iL's supposed to be i gets a little crazy with the
collectives and just promising people money but putting two of your athletes in a funny commercial
thought the acting was very good you got brock wearing a fake mustache at one point max hariston
they're rolling someone to their room and they reach the can and he gives a good slap i thought
they all did a good job there yep good idea and um you know we've always said that there's a
world of possibilities when it comes to these great nil commercials and college kids so maybe
this is just the one of many coming yeah
That's how it's supposed to be.
It's fun to watch that, seeing those guys get a little bit of money
for they play their game tomorrow.
Brock Vannegriff's first start.
Shannon, how are we feeling about the debut of Brock Van derogh?
We've been talking about it since the spring, but it is now just a little over 24 hours away.
I feel overall good about it.
I know he's going to come out and probably not have much sleep from the night before.
We've talked about that.
He says he's going to be very emotional, so I expect a tear or two to trickle down his cheek.
But I think after he gets settled in, I think we're going to see a pass-heavy offense.
tomorrow to break them in and show off our new shiny toy and Brock Vandigriff,
and I think he's going to have overall a really good game tomorrow.
Do we give him some coffee before the game starts?
You don't want to dehydrate yourself.
So maybe like a liquid IV because my man may be a little tired staying up all night,
studying the playbook because he's excited for this first career start.
Is Billy excited?
You got any concerns?
Anything?
Running back depth, you worried about it?
The fact that Southern Miss has won before.
Let's just get the radio broadcast on the air.
No technical difficulties.
That's my biggest worry.
Well, it's almost here.
Tomorrow night at 755, Kentucky versus South.
Southern Miss over at Crogerfield.
You can watch on the SEC Network.
We appreciate you listen to KSR this week.
