This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome everyone to Kentucky Sports Radio.
Tuesday, September the 3rd.
I'm Matt Jones on an absolutely beautiful day here in last.
Lexington, Kentucky, where we are at the KS Bar and Grill.
We are here today tomorrow and Thursday.
If you want to come by and say hello,
it is, you couldn't ask again for better weather today.
A little different than what we had on Saturday.
You can give us a shout to Clark's Pump and Shop phone line.
That's 859-280-2287.
A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-7474-5-254 in this edition.
Sponsor by the T.J. Smith-Lawvis.
You call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Shannon, by the way, I asked you right before.
Tell me the phone number.
It is so crazy to me about these phone numbers that, like, they rattle off my head
only if I say Clark's Pump and Shop phone.
So if I say Clark's Pump and Shop phone line, I can go 859-2-80-2287.
Right.
But if you were to ask me separately, Drew, what is the phone number?
I have to go, okay, is it the 502?
Is it the ber-b-b-8-8-8-S-P-N?
But just, it's weird how your brain works like that.
I think it's a little rhythm to it.
You got to have that Clark's Pumping Shop for those numbers.
What if I had to do that with my phone number, Shannon?
If I had to sponsor it to get remembered.
The number you said to me was the one from like three years ago.
So why is that one even in my head?
Why am I remembering the number from three years ago?
You said that for like 10 years and now you've got the new one from two or three years ago.
And I had the same thing for the pregame show with Billy.
I was like, what's this number again?
And he was like 859-280-2287.
But then when I say it, Clark's Pumper-Shopper-Shop phone line,
8, 8, 5, 9, 2807, it's easy.
It's like you don't know it.
You just have a little button in your brain that pushes it, starts with Clark.
I think you're exactly right.
Well, we are here.
Today is going to be mostly about talking about Saturday.
I mean, we'll do some other stuff too, but Saturday was one of the weirdest days, you know,
maybe one of the weirdest days ever in Kentucky football history.
You had an absolutely awesome environment in the town leading up to the game.
I mean, I drove by the stadium at like 1230, and there was a huge, huge amount of tailgators out.
Then I came to the bar.
We opened at 11.
I think we were full from 1130 until the game.
People were very, very excited.
And then things just got weird, Drew.
I think it's fair to say.
Like, I mean, things just got weird.
We'll talk a little bit later about the logistics and maybe some of the mistakes that UK made.
But the game gets delayed for two hours.
It gets played in the middle of the game.
It looked like the camera crew moved to the International Space Station for a little bit of it.
The editing, it was like, I don't know.
All of a sudden it was like people were doing it on their Commodore 64.
And then it goes to halftime.
Halftime's like 30 seconds.
I don't think Kentucky even goes in the locker room.
Did go to the locker room?
Some of them did.
Some didn't.
And, yeah, I mean, some people have halftime.
Some of them don't.
Then they come back and play and play two drives and then it's over.
And then there's the will to the game happen.
Do you not?
Mark Stoops on the field like throwing his hands up in the air.
Just an odd, odd, odd first game.
But in it, Kentucky actually played pretty well.
Yeah, football was great.
Aside from that, very bizarre.
When I was heading into the stadium, I even turned to Stephen.
We were doing our tailgating video.
And I thought, these lines are never this long.
One of the gates, the line was almost all the way to alumni.
It was like down the sidewalk.
We interviewed people wondering what was going on.
At that point, no one really knew why the gates weren't open yet.
Because at that point, they should have been letting people in.
Then we went on inside.
Finally, they let people in.
There was just so much confusion.
I know UK probably could have communicated a little better,
but I don't think really UK knew either because it seemed where we sit.
It was just one lightning bolt after another.
And every time we saw one, it's like, well, there's another 30 minutes.
I was sitting in my house.
And yeah, every time you would see one, they were all kind of out towards Georgetown.
And every time you would see one, you'd go, well, here we go again.
We'll talk about the logistics part in a minute
Because I do think there were some issues there
But as far as the game
You tell me before the game we win 31 nothing Ryan
I'm like
Yeah give it to me
And do it only playing 35 minutes
Maybe even better
I know our sample size is very very small
But you had to walk away impressed
I mean your defense shut them out
Threw up a big zero
Your offense is moving the ball
Your quarterback is scrambling around
like he's Will Levis out there.
I mean, everything I saw on the field has got me excited about the game coming up this weekend.
Yeah, I was thinking before the postgame show what I was going to say.
And if you wanted to be negative, it was like, well, the right tackle didn't play well.
And like when you get to that point, I think, Drew, you feel pretty good about it.
I really liked Van de Griff.
I mean, he needs to slide.
We learned that at SEC media.
Yeah, he's all Georgia teammates.
He can't.
Boy, unslide.
That very first run, he took a guy's shoulder first, dude.
We can't have you do that.
He got hit way too many times for the opening game against Southern Miss.
And in the first drive, like three of those four hits were on the first drive.
I was like, man, you're going to have to slide.
I love you.
I like the mentality, but you got to slide.
There's something that gets you pumped up, though, when you see your quarterback.
It is, but it won't get you pumped up if he's carried off the field.
That's true, man.
I don't know if we need him lowering his head to run through a linebacker,
but that's Brock Vandergriff.
He's going to run a lot.
he's not going to slide he'll have to get a little better getting down but
Bush Hamden even said when he first got here I want a quarterback that can get two or three
first downs with their feet and we saw that right away heck second play of the game was a
QB draw they're going to run him a lot but better runner than I thought he was
yeah no I agree I agree makes any I like how he throws on the run you know clearly
they told him after that first drive hey dude stop because then he would act like he was
going to run and then throw and he I think he was pretty successful at that too
yeah some of his best throws rolling out the other way or a little off
balance. I think his best when he hit Barron Brown
kind of backpedaling to his left. So
I mean, even though it was just Southern
Miss and that's not a great defense, I thought
the debut of Vandergriff looked great. There's a few
he's lucky he didn't have a pick six.
He threw to get right to the guy's chest. And that could
have changed the game. I mean, he is very lucky.
It was 7-7-0, and
we're driving to kind of go up 14-0
and it could have been 7-7, and then
it's a different game. So he's going to
have to be careful about that. He stares
down his receivers a little bit.
You know, first start and that might get worked out.
Other than that, I love what we saw at him in his debut.
Yeah, I thought he was great.
Nice to see Kumo KSD or whatever be able to.
DSK.
Dmi Sumo Karngra.
Did I call him Kumo?
Dmi.
Why would I call him that?
Well, I mean, when I was in law school, there's a famous case,
Kumo Tire, which shouldn't have anything to do with this game.
He was using his tires?
He was.
He was used to.
There you go.
DSK.
I need to remember, just put the S in between drag.
F K.
DSK was great.
Yes, he was.
Had five or six really, really good runs.
Barry on two touchdowns.
Dane made a good catch.
Macklin had a couple big, big catches.
We got a tight-in touchdown in the game.
The tight-in touchdown was so rare.
That was our last play.
Lightning struck in that end of the game.
No, even the skies were like, we cannot have Kentucky.
You can't have throw into a wide-open tight-in.
What do we do it?
And so then, you know, I don't know, Shannon, where I'm going to put this.
in weirdness, but it's got to be.
Is it the number one weirdest
game at Commonwealth Stadium?
If you're going like other weird games,
what are other weird times?
Well, the game in Arkansas
that got canceled the middle of the night,
but we were down like 49 to 7
at that point.
That was again with Joker.
This has got to be the weirdest.
I mean, first of all,
Drew, you were at the game,
so I do want to hear what it was like
in the stadium, but let me just,
as an outsider.
I'm sitting at home,
and I'm waiting,
for the game to start, and I'm getting text messages.
I mean, it was like almost the means I got on my birthday.
You know how it's on your birthday?
People check in once a year just to say, hey, are you alive?
By the way, everybody else is much better at knowing people's birthdays than I am.
If it wasn't for Facebook, would you know anyone's birthday?
See, I don't get on Facebook much, so I miss several birthdays because I feel like we all rely
on Facebook to let us know.
It's the only way I know birthdays.
And it's the only way I know some of my friends know birthdays, and me too.
But I'm getting dozens of text messages of people, Shannon, who even forgot my birthday.
Just want to know the updates.
Asking what's going to know about the game, right?
Like, hey, we care about your birthday.
I just want to know when this game's going to start.
I mean, I had, and listen, it's okay if you're listening.
I still, I'm a big fan of you.
I had an ex-girlfriend.
I haven't talked to a long time decided this was the time to reconnect.
And their first message was, hey, how you been?
Things good?
By the way, what's happening with the game?
Like, just go ahead.
You don't need the first.
Football games rekindling held flames.
Look at that.
You don't need the first.
I know you just want to know what's happening with the game.
But it seemed to me that the people at the stadium had absolutely no clue what was happening.
Right?
And the cell service was bad, apparently.
And the self service was bad.
Our traffic on the website was through the roof.
I'm sure people trying to figure out the game.
I added 400 Twitter followers that night of people.
UK, I'm not going to blame them for the decision.
all the decision making stuff happens i'm sure they could have done stuff better but whatever but the
communication drew i think was a failure on ukays part because the people there seemed to have
no idea what was going on yeah and even if uk didn't have a great idea of what was going on
because there were parts where they're waiting to meet with the officials and coaches
something else on the screen like hang on we're trying to figure it out because there's just a lot
of uncertainty i mean a lot of people were complaining about being stuck in the concourse lots of people
complain about the beer lines not being open, which I agree with. People didn't need that
more beer during that two-hour window. But, you know, people didn't know if they could go to
their seats. Before that, people stuck outside not knowing that he was even a lightning situation.
It was pretty much chaotic. You got to find a way, Ryan, to let people know, even if the,
update is, we don't know. When you say nothing, it's natural for the mind to think the worst,
right yeah you know and i do think there was a sense you know we had a friend that went hunting in
me remember a couple i got i saw it he said it to me we had a friend who went hunting in
mexico in like a really dangerous part of mexico and at one point he texted me and goes i feel
more scared here in this concourse right now than i did in mexico because he was like he he texted
me and said matt the natives are wrestling and it felt like there was a moment where you go man
it doesn't feel like the good vibe there
And I think a lot of it goes to the fact that the cell phone towers got overloaded
because everybody's on their phone all at the same time.
But they know that.
So those never work anyway.
So those never work.
So there's got to be a way to tell people, even if it's like loudspeakers.
That's what they should have done.
That's what I'm going to say for the people in the concourse.
There should have been constant updates, like maybe every even five minutes.
Hey, this is what's going on?
This is our situation?
We're still working on it.
You know, at the beginning of the game, they say you can't come in because of lightning.
And Shannon, they're leaving everybody out in the parking.
Which would strike me as being much more dangerous from a lightning standpoint.
Underneath a bunch of metal tents.
Like, how is that better than being in the stand?
I don't know.
And then they let them in, I think, just out of force.
And then they realize there are more people in the concourse than their space for.
So then they sit out a message that says, if you're not in the concourse, go back to your car.
Which was an interesting message to send out.
And then they just decide to let people sit out there.
We're under a lightning delay, but you can sit on the bleachers.
On metal bleachers, that seems weird to me.
Might as well be playing the game in that case.
And then in the middle of the game, the camera crew leaves because of lightning,
but the game keeps going on.
That was the biggest head scratcher for me.
Because I heard Tom Hart go, we have to get our cameramen out of the elements.
I'm going about, what about the 60,000 people sitting on metal bleachers right now?
Walking around with metal on their head.
Yeah.
You know, that didn't make sense to me either.
I heard Billy say this morning, the camera that they took was the UK camera,
and those guys didn't even know they were on the SEC network.
Is that right?
That's what Billy said this morning.
Well, that would make sense because sometimes the camera would just drift off in the space.
You have an operator on it.
So you're telling me that the camera that was on the air, the people operated, didn't even know they were on the air?
They didn't know that they had taken that camera.
Well, it is a good thing they didn't like just go, look at that woman in the crowd.
Like that could have been.
It's like we were watching a home video, like VHS.
I thought I was watching the Brethick County High School game.
No, I mean, except farther away.
I couldn't see.
the numbers on the jersey
you barely could see what was happening
during the game. I just
was sitting there. It was like you
was like you were drunk or something
when it was going on. One thing
that was cool was during that
first delay was two hours and ten
minutes. You know Kentucky fans
had every excuse to go home and they stayed.
Most season openers, that
place isn't as full as it was yesterday.
The fact that as many people stayed as long as
they did, I mean when they finally kicked it off
two hours and ten minutes later, it was still
pretty full in that stadium outside the top corners.
There comes a point when something bad is happening where you almost enjoy it.
Like, you know what I mean?
Like, everybody's in this together.
Let's have a good time and just do the best we can with it.
But it was weird.
I do think it's one of those things.
I can't blast UK for it.
Things happen.
But I do hope they learned from it because it did feel like it was kind of going by the seat of the pants.
I mean, when you say everyone should come in the concourse and five minutes later,
out, hey, why don't some of y'all stay in the car?
It does feel like maybe the people weren't totally on the same page.
859-280-2287.
We will take your calls.
I want to talk a little bit more about what happened on Saturday.
And then what does it mean for the team going forward?
Do you feel good about the season up to this point?
Skaya is on.

are in possession of the thing
and we're still chasing it

because people scoreboard watch
life becomes about wins and losses

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never.
ever seen before.
And he knows, without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
that man,
hell get the flying,
he running up the court,
licking his fingers
while he got the ball,
like,
after you go through a training camp
with that Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,

Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
We'll go to the phones here.
Probably next segment.
So those of you,
859-280-20287,
I promise I will get to you.
One person writes on the text machine,
which is 772-7-4-5-254.
I was at the game, Matt.
There was no reason for there to be any delay.
I didn't see lightning anywhere.
Well, it's not just about what you saw.
I saw a lot of lightning.
I mean, first of all, I saw lightning.
But secondly, I think the rule of eight miles,
I'm fine with the rule.
The rule is what it is.
I'm not a weather guy.
Like, you know,
I get it, and the timing of it was terrible because, like, it's not raining, yet we're not playing.
But it's an SEC rule.
There's nothing the U.K. can do about that.
Yeah, I'm not an expert on that, but I can confirm there was several lightning bolts that look very close.
Because up there sitting in the press box, we'd be like, oh, there was another one.
You just see it, and we just knew that delayed a little longer.
You know, I don't know why they picked eight-mile radius, but you have to know that they got the safety of the fans in mind when they do something like this.
You're out there's metal bleachers and there's lightning in the area.
The lightnings fine.
I don't understand leaving people in the parking lot.
I can't imagine, Shannon, what the scientific reason let everyone stand in the parking lot is.
I don't know.
I mean, if you're inside, you're probably not safe.
If you're in the parking lot, you're not safe.
Do you tell them to leave?
I mean, I don't know what you tell them to do at that point.
Whatever it is, you got to give them what.
You can't say, come, leave, come, leave.
You know, you.
Once you're in, you're in, you're in?
You're in or not out?
You got to do something.
And then the alcohol thing, I get the policy, which is probably like, we don't need these people standing around to also be drunk.
I get that.
But at one point, one of the booths was saying we'll sell soda but not food, which I thought was a really interesting idea.
We don't want you to have a full belly when you get struck by lightning.
But like soda's not radioactive.
I didn't totally understand that.
But you know, like we've already said, the crowd stayed there.
man, they were so excited for this team in this game.
You said that was awesome.
That was awesome.
That was still full at kickoff at 10 o'clock.
I mean, that's awesome.
People gave up a little earlier.
It was here.
It was full at 7 o'clock.
But by 8.30, people were like, you know what?
Go ahead.
If they had had, if the game had gone off regular,
this would have been the biggest day we ever had at KS bar,
but it didn't happen like that.
But that's okay.
During the final delay that ended up being the cancellation,
before we knew it was canceled,
I went down to the concourse and interviewed people,
there were so many fans willing to stay until Sunday afternoon, until Sunday night.
They're like, we want to be a part of the longest game ever.
Totally great.
There was a lot of people.
A lot of people would have done it.
And there was a lot of people even when the game was called at whatever time that was,
that were still there and that were still.
A lot of gamblers wanted it finished.
I know that much.
Yeah, that's a whole other thing.
I did hear draft kings is going to make their final determination today, by the way.
So I still think they haven't, but I don't know what it's going to be.
I mean, they don't ask me that.
Usually you would just get your money back.
Yeah, but you know, but I think this is, I think there's only one other event I've ever been involved with.
It was maybe a little weirder than this, and that was the tornado that went through the SEC tournament.
That was like that too.
But remember, the tornado was the same thing.
The people in the building had no idea what was going on.
And they wouldn't let us leave.
And they wouldn't let people leave.
And so they just have to do a better job of communicating, I think, in those situations.
One thing they did well, now maybe they should have been using this energy on communicating.
But during that delay, they were playing all.
all the hits.
They weren't.
People were doing the wave.
Didn't they show the blue?
They kept turn on the blue LED lights, which is weird because we'd get lightning and it'd be
confusing.
Was that lightning or was that a new light?
Yeah.
But they did a good job.
Did those look cool?
Yeah, I'm in the press box.
We have glass with a reflection.
You don't really feel the energy as well.
It's not like the old days we could slide that window open.
I heard people say.
Yeah, it looked awesome.
And then Stephen put up a video from the field that made it look really cool.
But during that two hour window, the fans just kept going.
They did a good job.
By the way, speaking of the game, just so you can.
knows because I know you are listening.
I'm pretty upset at you all.
They wouldn't credential Mario.
Uh-oh.
Uh-oh.
Mario, the-
It's the hottest name in UK media right now.
Like Mario now, if you were at the bar, everybody wants their picture with Mario.
UK doesn't credential Mario.
Let me just say something to UK.
I like you all.
But you have no excuse not to credential Mario.
There are people, I'm not going to say who, but there are people credentialed for those games
who their only followers are like in their family.
And like, Mario has 12,000 followers.
And to not credential him.
to me makes no sense.
And I'm raising a ruckus.
I just was gone last week.
But a ruckus shall be raised.
Yes.
There was empty seats there who could have room.
There was extra shrimp and grits.
They could have fed him.
Like, you know, you credential the other people.
I don't get it.
So that's a different point.
But anyway.
Free Mario.
So Mario was here at the bar because he couldn't go to the game because he was,
he wasn't credential.
All right.
As far as the, do you feel more or less confident about the team today than you did before
the game?
I'll go first.
more. I was very impressed
with the defense especially, man.
They just totally stuck it to them,
throw up the big shutout. Offensively,
we said earlier, you know, Brock's a better runner
than I thought. I thought he looked good in the pocket.
I think I am
ready for South Carolina. I thought that may be
a little bit closer game, but the South Carolina
game was on before our game. They didn't look as good.
Kentucky, I thought, looked really good. Bring them on.
Yeah, I'm more confident because
Vandergriff and the defense.
Even though the defense gave up, you know,
three-third-down conversions right away,
their playmaking stepped up and had the two interceptions to correct that,
then I don't think they gave up another third down conversion the rest of the game.
They had the speed, the talent, everything we thought that group's going to have.
Even though it was Southern Miss, you could just tell they're going to be an elite defense.
Yeah, those are the two.
You hit the two things for me, both of you.
The defense is as advertised.
You know, they gave up a cut.
The only offense Southern Miss had was like a couple of dump downs on third and 15.
That was really all they did.
and then Vannegriff was not like it's he's good yeah you know now whether he ends up being great
time will will tell but we know he's good like we saw that he has the ability to be good and that's
also a great sign one more you could have with him before the game is having never started and
played that much you know will he get a little nervous anxious in the pocket happy feet he was
had a great pocket presence even took a couple shots on some throws and bounce right back up he
had one to dain he overthrew dane because he got
rocked but if he could have gotten followed through with his release i think it might have been a long
dane touchdown just missed him but he popped right up after getting that hit too he he
i know your mom had to love it after the game when he said it's going to be tough going to church in
the morning but we're going to church i know your mom probably had that's your mom's favorite
player now how many points you think we score if the game ends on regular time shanan and i was going to say
48 yeah i like uh maybe in the 50s even if they kept playing well it depends on do they leave
Brock M, probably not, especially the way he was playing, kind of reckless.
Stoops almost suggested that Brock was going to get one more series on the post game,
and then it was maybe going to go to Gavin.
Somewhere in the 40s.
I like 48 as the number.
Yeah, what about you?
I was already happy.
I had already made my Draft King's money.
I was just waiting for him to ride it out so I could cash in all these big tickets.
So, yeah, they probably would have ended up.
That's nothing to do with what my question was.
How many points do you think they would have scored?
I was just kind of adding to my, by what I'm getting ready to say.
Probably 49.
49.
49.
49.
What about you?
45. I bet the under during the delay because I know Mark Stoops was going to want to get the hell out of there in the middle of the night.
So I think we're about to see a lot of running and just get the heck home.
Yeah, I think that's probably right. I think they would have, I think they would have, the only negative about the night.
The only negative when it comes to football is that you didn't get to play the other guys.
Like they would have had moments to get to play a lot of dudes and kind of see who played well, et cetera.
And you didn't really get a chance to do that.
That's the only negative I can see about how it went.
Yeah, running back.
They didn't get Patterson in.
Wilcox had a good run.
Yeah, it did.
All right, we will take your calls when we come back.
859, 280, 2287.
It really is ridiculous.
Mario is not critical.
Free Mario.
Like what in the world is the reasoning?
Anyway, we'll be right back.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back.
Kentucky Sports Radio, 859, 280, 2287.
I've got to wake the text machine up a lot.
If you were at the game, tell me what was your experience there.
772-774-5-254.
One person writes, Matt, Mario will get credentialed at the SEC tournament before Shannon.
Probably will.
You know what?
At this point, I don't even want to be credentialed yet.
I don't even want to.
You don't even want to go.
No.
I'll just go to Broadway.
I don't need the SEC tournament.
You don't need that stupid SEC tournament?
It doesn't mean more to me.
Exactly, exactly right.
We've only missed two hours in the last SEC turn.
It's a fair point.
Yeah, it's true.
We haven't been there very long.
One person writes,
what do you think about Mark Pope going in the stands and getting Michael Moreno?
That was great.
That's, dude, I know we keep saying he gets it.
Michael Morano sitting in.
Malachi.
His brother.
Malachi out in the stands, Pope leaves the luxury box,
comes into the stands,
goes through the crowd, gets him and takes him up to sit with the team.
Like, that's such a perfect Kentucky coach Ryan thing to do.
Dude, we worried about who's going to be the next person that knows what it's like to sit in that chair after Cal.
Pope gets it, man.
He knows what it's like to sit in that chair.
And the fact that he did that with all that was going on to go get Malachi and bring him up with the team, I thought was awesome.
Just think about how many places I saw them this weekend.
Okay, they were at the opening of the whole basketball team was at the opening of the UK women's volleyball season.
Then they were outside.
When everyone else was standing there trying to get in, so was the basketball.
Like they didn't get in either.
They were just standing there, taking pictures with fans, et cetera.
And then they sit and watch the game.
They go get Moreno.
Like, I feel like the vibes.
I mean, you can't necessarily win a title on vibes, but the vibes are really good around the program.
Yeah, Pope was in the section right beneath me.
And I looked down, I didn't know what he was doing until later.
But he was like in the middle of the section, like moving around people.
I was like, surely this guy has a sweet.
But I mean, that's the head basketball coach, just amongst them.
Everybody, of course, stopping for selfies, getting hugs,
and he just seemed to be loving every minute of it.
Mark Pope amongst them.
That's a great way to put it.
I like that a lot.
But I did like that video when somebody sent it.
I was like, this is what you're supposed to do here.
And you know, I had to make Malachi feel special.
Like, hey, man, I'm already a part of the team.
You don't sit with your parents.
Come sit with us.
Yeah, that's a good idea.
Who's first, Shannon?
Michael.
Michael, go ahead, Michael.
Hey, guys, good morning.
I was at the game.
I had the wildest day.
I actually left work early, so I wouldn't miss kickoff, ironically, enough.
You didn't have to worry about that.
There was a squirrel in the stands.
And my only complaint about the new stadium and everything is we only still have one speaker on the field, it seems like.
We don't have surround sound.
I don't understand that.
I thought that was supposed to have gotten better.
Has it no. We only did lights. I haven't gotten the speakers.
We only did lights, no speakers.
Sound and Wi-Fi.
I love the team Go-Cats.
I did hear that, though, I appreciate the call.
The Wi-Fi costs like an absurd amount of money.
So, like, I'm sure they'll do it eventually, but considering how much you use it, I think I remember, maybe it was Mitch told me it was like a bajillion dollars.
The speaker system, though, it is like, you know, it feels like when you drive down the car, down the road, and somebody's playing rap in a speaker that can't handle the bass.
Honda Civic.
And it's like shaking.
That's kind of how I feel the stadium is, Drew, when it comes to the speakers.
Yeah, I hope it didn't take away from the lighting upgrades,
but we have heard a lot of complaining that the sound still is what it is.
I don't know much about audio, but that seems like something that could be fixed fairly,
I won't say easily, but should be doable.
Easier.
I mean, we've been talking about this for a decade now.
Yeah.
Well, that's the thing we've been talking about forever.
Now, I will say this, I think the Wi-Fi is better than it used to be through the amount.
They must have done something.
Of course, it got overloaded Saturday night, but it seems like last year it was a little better during the season.
So there is free Wi-Fi there?
For the fans, or are you on the media one?
I think I'm on the fans one.
You're sure?
I think you're on the media.
Every fan in the building complains about the Wi-Fi.
I think you're just automatically on the media.
Maybe I am on the media then.
Maybe you're on 2G.
It's so it's farther down.
You're just locking on my Android.
It's so many Gs down that he can actually get on.
This guy may be right.
His own network.
He actually has dial-up on his phone, which is weird, but he's able to do it.
Who's next?
Sheedle.
Sheedle.
How are you, Sheetle, from Middlesbril?
Hey, I wanted to say thank you guys for Saturday.
Zion was a little celebrity at the tailgate.
Yeah, so Sheetle, I went to school with in Middlesbrough, brought her son here.
We got to see a young, now they live in California, but Middlesbroughite.
And it was very nice to see you all.
Yes, and I do want to confirm down in Section 1, we did not see any lightning.
But the stadium, the fans were electric.
It was great.
I don't know if I can bring Zion back because I don't think we're going to be able to top that.
So you're saying the fact that it was so unique actually made it for your child a very cool experience.
Oh, man, it was so cool.
We were playing heads up on our phone with the kids around us, waiting in the two hours.
delay. So it was fun. It was fun. He had a great time. Well, it was nice to see you, Sheetle. Thank you very
much. Nice to you, too. Bye-bye. Yeah. Again, sometimes going through something together. Like, for instance,
on the first week of December, when I've officially decided we're driving to Seattle, that'll be something,
Shannon. We'll get to go through together. Yeah. And we'll have a great time.
Go through states we haven't driven through yet, like Montana and Idaho.
So we're going to, we already, you know, one of the guys in my, in my dork camp,
has a cattle ranch in South Dakota,
and he has offered to have us do the show from the cattle ranch.
That might be cool.
In South Dakota.
So we will be at a cattle ranch, get Mario on a big steer or something like that.
I don't know what that means exactly.
But he said he will host us.
This dude's really interesting.
He used to be a bull rider back in the day.
Yeah.
And he now has a cattle ranch, and he wants us to do the show there.
And I said we would.
I think we're good for all of us to see a real cattle ranch,
active cattle ranch and be out there a part of it.
So you're in?
I'm in.
Yes.
So how about that?
We'll drive, we'll leave since I have to do the Bengals pregame for ESPN that like
December 1st, they play the Steelers and ESPN's live on remote.
So I'm going to have to do my show from there.
And then we will leave right after it and drive from Cincinnati, Ohio to Seattle, Washington.
I like that Mario's first road trip is the most extreme we've ever done.
Like we couldn't just take them to Indianapolis.
And we're going to, by the way, we're going to dip our toe.
into Oregon so I can have been to all 50 states. That's the only state of that. The only one I have
left's Oregon. So I'm not getting all the way out there and not finding a way to get into Oregon.
So we're going to get it, go into Oregon. But just think about it. We will go from Cincinnati to
Seattle. You can figure out what that route will be. We'll go as direct as possible, but we are
going to this ranch because this guy wants to. Direct as possible. What does that mean?
New Hampshire, New Mexico. We're not going to go through any of the news. Okay. We're going to go,
Well, here, I mean, let me, I'll let me look on my phone.
Let's see what the most direct route to Seattle is, and then we'll see if we're going to, if we're going to go.
While I'm doing it, go ahead. Who's next shit?
Let's go to Jason.
Jason.
Jason, go ahead, Jason.
Hey, first time, long time, guys.
Who are?
I just wanted to say, y'all, y'all mentioned earlier about how you couldn't think of any other games that were similar to this.
I can think of one I think was very similar to this.
It was the opener, also the opener against Louisville back in 20.0.3.
This was Rich Brooks's first game for Bobby Petrino's first game.
Yep.
And I was at that.
I went there this weekend, but I was at that one.
And I remember the PA worked good.
They told everybody that was in the lower section to go to the vehicles if they could.
And everybody, like, in the upper area to go to the concourse if they could.
I was in the upper area.
And I remember going to the concourse.
And it was a so packed.
So tight shoulder to shoulder.
You could smell everybody's.
That's nice.
So that was Bobby this.
What year was this, Ryan?
0-3.
It was Rich Brooks's first game and Bobby Petrino's first game.
Okay.
And they had a deluge at Papa John Stadium.
And I could even flood it like the concourse.
No, no, this was it.
No, this one was in 03.
It was in Lexington.
I thought you talked about the one.
Was it Papa John's where they flooded the concourse?
It didn't rain so much.
All right.
That's enough old guy.
What year is it?
I just say that the point is it was what I do.
There was a Kentucky Louisville game one year that started.
Remember it was like 102 degrees or whatever the one time.
And when they had the marathon outside.
But even with the flood and all that, I still think, and I appreciate the call, the weirdness of this.
Where it's on, it's off, it's on, it's off, getting the concourse, getting your car.
That to me is what is unique about this one.
And like we've talked about already, there's so much like lack of communication.
nobody had a clue what was going on.
Why are we standing outside the gates?
Why are we sitting inside here?
Nobody was able to really knew what to do when was it going to start
if they're even going to play.
The Louisville game he mentioned was also a season opener.
It was delayed an hour and 20 minutes,
so we surpassed that record.
And then this one ending with nine minutes and 50 seconds left in the third quarter.
I thought there was a rule that you could only start.
You had to start before 10.
Turns out that's a baseball-only rule.
But I don't understand that.
Like, why would that rule exist, Shannon, for baseball
and not football.
I have no idea.
It doesn't make any sense to me.
Because the games are almost the exact same length of time, right?
So why would you?
Maybe the significance of a football game, they're thinking we're going to get this.
Maybe that's what it was.
No matter however we can.
You fellas could sit wherever you want.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.

What's up, fam?
It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game
is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, guys, this is Clever Taylor the 4th.
And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show,
I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.

Come back, Techie Sports Radio here live at the KS Bar and Grill.
We're sitting here looking at the route.
All right, so we're going to go.
That's called the United States of America.
Yeah, we're going to go through Iowa.
We'll go through a lot of South Dakota, a lot of Montana.
Like you're going to get to see all the Montana.
You probably want to see you.
Oh, I want to see Billings.
I want to see Bozeman.
I want to see Butt.
I want to see Missoula.
Did you want to see one of those three things, you said?
Yeah.
So you're going to get to see all of them.
And then into Washington, on the way back, there's another route that's about the same distance that will take us through Oregon and Salt Lake City.
Nice.
And next thing you know, we'll be back.
So actually, we're not going to.
We are flying home.
We're not going to drive home.
I just went.
But I'm ready to check off Montana.
I've generally always wanted to go to Montana.
It's beautiful, they say.
Close, but didn't make it all the way.
call it big sky country i'm just excited we get to go back to iowa i mean it's been a couple weeks
since we've been to iowa and mario's excited that next weekend he gets to get in the car with me and drive
to green bay that is going to be quite a drive because shannon we have to do the pregame show here
for georgia yeah leave it five and he and i got to get in the car and drive to green bay wisconsin
well that ought to be fun i mean make sure you go by that little place where we tellgated at a long drive
A little band playing.
I have to be on the air in Green Bay at 10 a.m. from a bar right outside of,
actually, no, it's from the house where we, remember where we went to the pregame?
That's a good house.
I have to do the ESPN show from that house in Green Bay.
And then he and Mario and I are going to turn right back around and drive back.
It wasn't the Georgia game.
I'd hop in with you.
I like Green Bay.
That was a good time.
That was awesome.
We went to Green Bay last year.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I'm going to Green Bay, Dallas, Cincinnati, and Chicago with ESPN.
Can you stay and what?
watch the game, the Green Bay game? I asked about that. They were like, well, we can get
your credentials, and once again, they won't get Mario. We got free Mario. What is going
on all these credentials? It's okay. I don't really want to go into the game. I'm going to go to
like one of those Packers bars and watch it or something like that. I think that'll be fun.
It's kind of experience. If you've never been, it's worth it to go up to Green Bay,
Lambeau Field at some point, just for all their thing goes around the stadium even.
Yeah, no, it's amazing. It's in the middle of a neighborhood. It's really, it's really different.
What person writes, Matt, I really like Brock Van de Griff.
Before the game, you guys all said you thought he'd be the second best quarterback of the since Andre Woodson behind Will Levis still believe that after.
I like it.
I still will say that.
I mean, listen, Stephen Johnson and Terry Wilson won a lot of games here.
So he's going to have to win games to be in that group.
But I like the trending in that direction, Drew.
Yeah, definitely.
I mean, Levis, especially his first year, he put up some pretty remarkable numbers.
He's just slightly behind Levis.
I think we're in for a good season.
Heck, he might pass Levis.
Who knows?
He's got a lot more targets.
I mean, Levis, I mean, he's a starter right now on year two in the NFL.
Obviously, very good.
But Van der Gryff has more pieces around him if he were to get it going to throw to.
He probably does have more pieces.
He doesn't have the running back that you can hand to, and he'll just go through and get the first down.
Yeah, you talk about winning percentage.
Stephen Johnson and Terry Wilson, those guys were just winners.
But as far as talent goes, I think Brock does maybe have the second most talent since
And Andre Woodson as a quarterback.
Just what our sample size is pretty small, but what we saw just on Saturday, he's got all the
tools to do it.
Shannon, he took his helmet off at one point during the game, and I thought he looked like
a 35-year-old from, like, Martin County.
I'm okay with that, though.
I want my quarterback to look a little grizzled.
I don't want a pretty boy quarterback.
No, I mean, he looks like he looks like he would play bass guitar for Jason Isbell.
He's here this Friday, right?
Yeah, he is.
Maybe he could do that before the game.
Exactly.
That's what he's doing before the South Carolina.
Carolina game. He just has, he has very, very grizzled look, and I, I like that about it.
Even though he's not from Kentucky, there are a lot of areas from Kentucky. He could fit right.
Oh, yeah. He wouldn't know that he's not from there. Oh, yeah. He has a phone clip. Like,
it's 2024. He still has a phone clip. I don't know that he dips, but I just assume he always has a dip in.
I certainly got it. At least zins or whatever it's called. What are the things they,
yeah, I can't keep up, but those seem to be popular. Yeah. Who's up next?
Let's go to slugger. Slugger. How are you slugger?
Everything's well.
I'm in agreement with you on the camera angle in the first quarter of the ball game.
It was all over the place.
They would pass the ball and you couldn't even see who caught it or whether they made a good defensive play.
You had no idea.
It was just like watch the celebration and see what happened.
Yeah, I was so compelled.
I actually called ESPN and talked to some poor woman there and told her that you've got to get this dopster off the camera because I'm getting sick watching the ball game.
And right after that, it straightened up.
They did.
It was only like a quarter.
It was the end of the first quarter in about half to two thirds of the second quarter.
And then right for half, it came back to normal.
Yeah, it's just crazy.
And I don't know.
It may be in a rookie mistake, but boy, it was aggravating.
Yeah.
Well, I don't think, you know, I mean, according to Tom Hart, I appreciate the call.
The ESPN has a rule.
I guess that's an eight-mile rule for playing the game,
but maybe like a 10-mile rule for ESPN,
and there was a piece of lightning or strike in between 8 and 10,
and that's how you ended up with it.
They certainly don't have the Douglas policy,
because I went to the Douglas game Friday,
and I felt like there was lightning on the field,
and they just played the game.
Well, kudos to Tom Hart and Jordan Rogers and Cole Kublich
and Tom Leach and Jeff Bacorrell.
Even Billy.
Billy was in that studio for, like, what, 12 hours on Saturday, man?
Let me just tell you something, Shannon.
Can me and you, just me and you talk?
Yeah.
Can we talk for a second about?
Listening to JMI try to fill that airtime.
What were they even doing?
Like, okay, so they ended up.
I was at the game.
They played the Mark Stoop show twice.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I mean, they played the Mark Stoop show from Monday.
Then they ran out of stuff.
They just played the UK U of L game from last year.
Yeah, they did.
Really?
Yep.
Put the game on.
I thought they'd at least have somebody on there.
No.
No, they did for like 15 minutes.
And then they were like,
Yeah, that's all we got.
Let's go to the UK U of L game from last year.
We could have hop back on.
We could have had fun.
I wonder if that was Billy's call.
I don't know what they were doing.
I mean, they played, they were like, you talk about scores from around the region.
I mean, they were bringing up scores from teams you didn't even know existed.
So when did your post-game show start?
My post-game show started at 1-25 and it ended about 2.30.
Have you ever had done one that late?
I don't think so.
I don't think there's one that's ended that late.
It was great.
There was a caller who called in asking for advice about a girl who lived in Iowa.
He had met a girl that night, Shannon.
Yeah.
And he lives in Georgia and she lives in Iowa, and he was trying to convince her to move to Georgia.
And I was like, pretty big ask.
Maybe second date.
Yeah.
You know, I mean, like, you just met her a few hours ago.
You know, just slow down, just slow down a little bit.
I would say 80% of the callers were drunk.
But I did enjoy it, actually.
You know, you get that kind of night.
Yep.
What are you going to do, right?
And then WLAP made a mistake.
The time it was supposed to come on, the alien show was on.
Oh, yeah.
I heard you guys got kicked off because of the alien show.
And I had people say to me that, like, they were sitting in their basement,
had been drinking, and all of a sudden, the alien show came on and kind of freaked them out,
talking about Area 51 and all that.
So I like, it was good.
So did you have to bummed?
the alien show.
Finally, we got the alien show off so that we could talk.
I'm a fan of both, so I wish you could just play them simultaneously.
Some of our callers didn't have much of a difference from the alien show during it.
So it was nice.
All right.
So Kentucky is now a 10-point favorite Saturday against South Carolina.
You surprised the numbers that high?
No, I think we're going to kill them.
South Carolina looked bad against Old Dominion right before the Kentucky game started.
Kentucky comes out and looks pretty good.
So I can see why it flipped maybe that.
The quarterback, Drew, where's Rexpex?
I'm just saying.
I'm a Rex Spex fan, but their quarterback also went 40% on his home field against Old Dominion.
Now he's got to play his first road game.
The Rex Specks are quite a look for a quarterback.
You don't see that at a whole lot.
We'll take a break.
Come back.
Hour number two.
KS. Bar is now open.
