Starting point is 00:02:48 presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, here live at the KS Bar and Grill. 859-280-2287. we are talking about the cats, got folks on the phone. Text machine is 772-774-5254. One person writes, Matt, I feel like we should be very thankful that we didn't get DJ Uga Galele, who, is that how you say his name?
Starting point is 00:03:17 We'll count it. We'll count it. I'll say from Florida State. Yeah, a lot of people don't realize this. If Rich Skangarrello had come back for a second year, DJ was going to be our quarterback. Yikes. Skangarello, had he been back for year two, was going to bring him in. Florida State is now 0-2.
Starting point is 00:03:36 The game last night was almost uncomfortable to watch. The thing is, it wasn't just him. Like, their defense was getting destroyed, but the focus was on him, and I found myself feeling sorry for the kid. Now, I know he's making like $1.5 million, so people are like, well, you can't feel sorry for him. But, I mean, the crowd was booing him. They're now 0-2, and they've played two bad teams. in their 0 and 2. So you've got to think the year is only going downhill from here, Drew.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Yeah, I watched pretty much their entire week zero game that they lost, and he looked horrible in that, and you wondered, is this, is the Ireland air getting to him, or is he really this bad off? In that game last night, there's one that's gone really viral. The receiver just wide open in the end zone, and he chucks it way over his head into the stands. I don't know how you can be a blue chip quarterback that's getting paid what he is and beat a school like he is and just miss so many routine throws. I think they're in big, trouble this season. But I don't think people realize how close he was to be in at this school. And that would have been a very interesting, uh, interesting dynamic. But, you know, they,
Starting point is 00:04:39 they were projected to make the playoff. And now they're 0 and two. I mean, they're out. Louisville, by the way, Louisville now under the newest projections has a 35% chance at the playoff and most of it is because Florida State now stinks. All that whining they did last year about the playoff, which, you know, maybe they should have been in, but no one is going to give them any credibility now. You followed it up with what they did at the end of the year and now losing to Georgia Tech and Boston College to open a season where, again, they're a top 10 team.
Starting point is 00:05:08 You guys want to change your ACC championship prediction that we have? I had Miami. I had Miami just for the record. I picked Miami and then still pick my – that one looks better. But back to Louisville for a second, Florida State was supposed to be their hard game. Their schedule, which was already easy, now looks even easier because their hard game was supposed to. to be Florida State, and now they're not good either.
Starting point is 00:05:30 I remember when we discussed ukulele possibly coming here to Kentucky. I was excited about it. Come on. DJ, I love you, but you can't do that with names. But go ahead. It's something like ukulele. It's whatever it is, don't call it ukulele, but go ahead. Well, however you pronounce it, it's something like that, I was excited when they thought, you know, he struggled something at Clemson,
Starting point is 00:05:52 but at the time when you thought he was possibly going to come here, I remember we were all excited about that. Yeah. Well, we were. Turns out that was not. Now, if you think I enjoy something, I did enjoy a lot, the downfall of Davo. Oh, yeah. I mean, Davo getting his tail kicked. You know, if you listen to Faye this, you know my dabbo. Dabo is the worst. And 34 to three, Mr. I don't take any transfers because I don't have the Clemson lifestyle. And like, shut up. absolutely destroyed, never in the game. And then when it was over, he's like, I'm going to take, I wish we could play that clip. I did play it on ESPN where he's like, you know, I know people are going to say stuff about this team.
Starting point is 00:06:39 And that's fine. Let them say it. And I was like, that's not an answer to you not being good. He deserves it. That most arrogant dude who's like, I'm just not going to, you know what? We've moved on to Wi-Fi. I'm still doing dial-up. and you know what, it be paid for it on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Yeah, the Internet's just been killing him, too. I mean, they're now officially a second-tier football team, and that dynasty is history. It's over. And if he doesn't change, and the thing about people like him is he doesn't want to change because he'll see it as a personal loss. I mean, they're different people. I don't think that this other one is as self-righteous as dabble is,
Starting point is 00:07:21 but it's cow. It's like I'm not. changing. Yep. Stop. And I think at that point it becomes more about being right than being successful. Even Nick Sabin saw that he had to change, you know, these great coaches, but yet for whatever reason, Cal and him just. Dabble just won't.
Starting point is 00:07:40 I mean, at least Cal decided to take people in the transfer portal. I mean, Dabo won't even do that. Like, it's insane. I know he's kind of, or not kind of, he is a legend there and took them to levels they had never been before. But at what point does someone say, listen, we can't keep going forward if you're just going to ignore how the game is played anymore? Just ignore it. You can't really fire him, but you also just can't let him continue to push him down even further because he won't play about the new set of rules. There's only four teams in America that did not take a transfer this year.
Starting point is 00:08:09 One is Clemson. Who are the other three? Army, Navy, and Air Force. Makes sense. Clemson is not a branch of the military. Oh, they're sure not. Although I bet they think they are. They're not, and I very much enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:08:25 You know what? I also enjoyed Shannon. Drew Deiner versus the Louisville meteorologist. I was hoping you were going to bring this up. This is one of the most amazing things, and I like Drew Deiner. He used to work with us. For people who don't know who Drew is, he is the Louisville. He's a Louisville radio host who covers U of L.
Starting point is 00:08:45 He, I don't know if he'd been partying or what, but if the Louisville game on Saturday, It started at noon. I think there were being liberal, 45 people at the game. The stadium was empty. And apparently some weather people had predicted storms. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:04 He blamed their fact there were no people in the crowd on the storms, including he gets online, calls the weather people frauds, like just going at the weather people. Well, then Mark Weinberg, a weatherman's like, look, man, we said two days ago there might be storms. we have to do that. What if there were storms and people blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:09:26 And Diner's like, eat it. You don't know nothing about it. Like they're going at each other. It made national news, Shannon. Like Diner versus the meteorologist. Diner's point was people didn't come to the game and businesses were hurt because of you weather people. And weather people were like, look, we do the weather.
Starting point is 00:09:44 We don't always get it right. Whose side are you on? Louisville fans are the definition of fair weather fans. Yes, they are. I mean, going because you might get rained on. What kind of fan is that? Look at what Kentucky fans had to go through. That's true.
Starting point is 00:09:57 That's a good point. We showed up. They didn't. Don't blame it on the weather, people. Don't blame it on Weinberg, but Weinberg versus Deiner might be an OVW attraction coming up, Ryan. We all like Drew. Former trancy tennis player. He worked in this market in the UK for several years before he went to Louisville.
Starting point is 00:10:16 There was something. There's got to be a little something else behind that, I feel like. Maybe they've had some other battles over there. I like both them. They're both pretty arrogant. I mean, Weinberg, you know, you think Bill Meck and Chris Bailey go at it. Mark Weinberg walks around Louisville like, I give you the weather. You see that sun up there?
Starting point is 00:10:35 That's me. I told you that was going to come out today. I'm the one that did it. You like that? You like that weather out there? Thank Mark Weinberg. Mr. Weather. Right here in Louisville.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Mark with the sea. It's Mark with a C. That's not Mark with a C. That's Mark with a C. So he stands for cumulus. And you need to see that the weather comes from me. Like he's like that. He's kind of a wrestling promo.
Starting point is 00:10:56 And then Drew is, you know, Drew's a feisty guy. So I guess that's how it happened. How many people actually watch the weatherman or woman meteorologist and then make their decision on if they're going to the game or not with a two-day-out forecast? I mean, we have phones that update it that morning. Nobody. Even three people didn't go to that game because what Mark said two day before. They didn't go like Shannon said.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Louisville fans, I've said this for years, especially football. Basketball is a little different, but especially for, they are party fans. They go for the party. Yeah, they were afraid of like, you know, the rain might get in the way of their drinking. That's exactly right. They go for the party. When Louisville's good, that place is rocking because Louisville knows how to throw a party. I'll give them credit for that.
Starting point is 00:11:38 But they're not going, they go for the party. So you tell them we're playing Austin P at noon and it might storm, that doesn't sound like much of a party. So I'm not going. That's what it is. Well, then call out the Louisville fans. He should have. Instead, Mark Weinberg, who's over there going, I kept it from Raymond, Drew. Do your Mark Weinberg.
Starting point is 00:11:58 He's just doing what the Doppler tells him. I'm just, I'm good. Now, then the other thing, and this is something to watch, this is one I want people just to have it on your radar if you don't. Bruce Pearl is taking an interesting tactic in recruit. Yeah. So, you know me. I believe, like, if people want to speak about politics, I do it, so I'm not going to tell anybody else not to do it. But then again, I don't have to recruit anybody.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Bruce Pearl is basically becoming like Ben Shapiro. I mean, he is. Like, go to his Twitter account. What is it? In the last 12 hours, he has like 15 political tweets. And it started, he's Jewish. So it started with a bunch of Israel stuff. But now it's pro-Trump, anti-Kamala Harris.
Starting point is 00:12:45 Well, he's doing it so much. there are now like civil rights leaders going, hey, why would a black player go for play for Bruce Pearl if he's going to say all this stuff? Now, I'm not saying Bruce doesn't have a right to say it. He certainly does. But you do have to wonder if it's the smartest thing to do for a guy who has to recruit, right? Bruce seems to be like only doubling, tripling down. And I don't think this is going to go away. and I'm not a stick to sports guy but there is a part, Drew, where you'd go,
Starting point is 00:13:20 man, you are really like, you're just leaning into this and we'll see what happens. And I don't really know why. Like, does he think he's going to convince? I bet Auburn fans are on his side. Not like Auburn is out there. You know, they don't have any, they're not Antifa.
Starting point is 00:13:35 Like, they're a pretty conservative fan base. Yeah, I knew where he stood on all that, but I didn't realize to looking it up this morning just how many times he tweets about it. It's not like he's firing off one. whole timeline is political. It's almost hard to find a basketball tweet. He doesn't tweet basketball. He only tweets political stuff. Are you surprised that a guy who has to go recruit? Let's be honest, predominantly African-American athletes would put all that? I'm very surprised. And you know,
Starting point is 00:14:01 I'm a Bruce Pearl supporter. Me too. I like Bruce Pearl. We all do. But for him to have to go, he has to go sit in these families living rooms and try to recruit their kid and they can say, well, look, what you just tweeted yesterday. Now let me ask you this question. I was one of the people that kind of advocated at one point for Bruce Pearl. What if he did that here? Oh, all it would take for him would miss out on one recruit and it would blow up. You just can't. When you're a head coach of a big major program like that,
Starting point is 00:14:30 you have to almost keep your feelings to yourself because you have to recruit the best player possible regardless of your political fans. And the other thing is, if he was doing it here, it would headline ESPN every day. Yeah. He's at Auburn and Auburn basketball. You know, it doesn't get the same amount of attention. So it's kind of still a little bit under the radar. Although if you look this morning, it's like starting to get traction, the whole Bruce Pearl thing.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Nationally? Well, it's in that world, it is. And Bruce's new algorithm from tweeting. Yes. So I don't know. You know what it's going to take is one major recruit to come out publicly and say, look, I'm not considering Auburn because. It'd be interesting to see, because Auburn's got to be one of the most conservative fan bases in the country.
Starting point is 00:15:12 It'll be interesting to see if at some point. that even they are like, Shannon, going, eh, hey, we want to win, dude. It's a bold strategy. I mean, it's interesting to me that he thinks that people actually believe or care what he believes, you know what I'm saying? Like, why does it even matter? Yeah, I don't know. Fans aren't going to care what he tweets.
Starting point is 00:15:32 I would just work in a basketball tweet. Just a couple. Like, hey, I still coach. Just want to let you all know. It is, it is interesting to watch. I'm going to be interested to see how it plays out. Who's next? Coach Greggles.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Gregels. Coach Greggles. How are you? good good guys good to talk to you this morning uh first time long time who i um i've had the game Saturday and my biggest thing I understand the rules I've been a coach for years um you know I've seen people hit by lightning at sporting events before and I understand that the cameraman had to be taken away but what happened to Carl Nathie the voice of the stadium we never heard him for like two hours and that's my question
Starting point is 00:16:14 Did they make him leave his post because of them? Oh, you mean before the game? Well, what would you have wanted him to say? Touchdown, Kentucky. Well, just updates inside the stadium. Okay. We got in there right about 8 o'clock, and the first real update in the stadium was at 927. It came on the big board, stated the rule that the players would take the field at 935,
Starting point is 00:16:37 and that was kind of the only thing over that two-hour period. Yeah, no, that's fair. I wouldn't blame Carl Nathie because he's kind of not going to do it unless they tell him to. But yes, my biggest complaint that sounds like yours too, they should have kept the people at the stadium aware what was going on. Like they just had no idea what was happening. And that's, in my opinion, a big mistake. I appreciate it. It's a crowd.

Starting point is 00:18:32 Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines,
Starting point is 00:19:16 as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano,
Starting point is 00:19:31 and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player they ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because
Starting point is 00:19:56 when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night bases on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Like, you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth.
Starting point is 00:20:34 And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous, referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:20:51 Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. The story I've told myself,
Starting point is 00:21:12 about love or relationships can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown and explore the journey of healing, self-discovery, and returning to yourself. We explore higher consciousness, emotional well-being, and the practices that help you find clarity, peace,

We're becoming more individualized, but we actually need people in connection. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole, this podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 0.859-280-2807. This is going to shock you, Shannon. What's up? People on the text machine mad that I'm criticizing Bruce Pearl. I'm not criticizing Bruce Pearl. Text, tweet whatever you want. I'm just saying, it's a, as you would say, Shannon, a bold strategy.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Yeah. It's an unresting angle to take. You have to go recruit, you know, objectively, like 90% of African-Americans are Democrats, and you're talking about how an African-American woman running for president, it is a socialist who will ruin the country, even if you believe that. I'm not telling you not to believe it. I'm not telling you not to believe it. I'm just saying you're going to have to go into people's homes and some of them are going to
Starting point is 00:22:54 ask you about it. That's all I'm saying. Similarly, like, let's say you were coaching a 14th region mountain basketball team. And all you tweeted was Trump's the worst. It would be hard, I think, if it's to then go into the homes of the players that played there. I'm sure some of their families would be like, what are you doing? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:16 You know that question is going to come up in recruiting. It's just going to. He's been so out there about it. New Memorial Coliseum renovation opened this weekend. Did anybody go? I didn't go, but I kept up with it Friday night. It's a soft opening of historic Memorial Coliseum. I'd actually be interested.
Starting point is 00:23:33 If you went to one of those volleyball games, 772-7-7-4-5-254, I'd like you to text. Just tell me what it's like. I've heard it's wonderful, but I don't know anybody. that went so have you heard anything right i saw the picture the the men's basketball team had front row seats for the debut so they were there looked like they had a good crowd there for it so but no i've not heard anything about it yet yeah i don't know if you if uh if you know who if anybody who heard i'd like to just know what it was like i hear it's beautiful they kind of did it as a soft opening so i don't think they had a full crowd i think maybe they limited it but then they play
Starting point is 00:24:08 penn state friday night i think is it this friday night yep and Penn State's a top 10 team, and it is going to be kind of their come on in and the water's great, big moment. Yeah, they're doing four soft openings for each sport that plays there, and one big one later in the year. But they started, there was giveaways, towels, bags. It looked like a decent crowd from what I saw clips of the game, but I haven't heard of any person. Well, Penn State game, if you're at all wanting to go see UK volleyball, and those are two top 10 teams that will be playing in the new Memorial Coliseum, the night before the night before the Kentucky South Carolina.
Starting point is 00:24:42 Carolina game, it should be great. So I think they'll be a big crowd this weekend, probably go to the volleyball game and then go to the football game on Saturday. This is a huge weekend for Kentucky. I do. This will be a great weekend. Who's up next, Fannie. Patty.
Starting point is 00:24:57 Patty, go ahead, Patty. Hey, Matt. I was at the game Saturday. It was a really good, I mean, it was a delay, but it was still okay. The crowd was great. My biggest complaint about Saturday was lack of communication. Plus, we were parked in a garage on Cooper and SportsCenter Drive. Yes.
Starting point is 00:25:20 The police just abandoned their post after the game, and we were trapped for almost. Did you hear about that? No. Yeah, this was a big complaint on the postgame show. And Patty, hang on because you were there. It seems like the police just left before the game was over. And there were people, so you were one of them, Patty, in garages who could. get out. Is that right? Yes. Yes. And when we came out and turned right toward Cooper,
Starting point is 00:25:50 they had started the lights back up. I mean, it looked like you were driving into a different world. There was no other people in parking lots anywhere. Yeah, so they, I guess, you know, normally they turned the lights off and police directive. Yeah. But the police left, so the lights were off, but no one was directing. So you might have been lucky you were actually in the parking lot because I heard it was just a scene of people. It would, shit, it would have been perfect for me, driving over curbs and trying to get out. That it was just, you know, just an absolute chaos. Now, it might have been that the police were going to come back and then the game got canceled
Starting point is 00:26:26 and they didn't have times to get back. I'm not sure. But, Patty, I appreciate the call. I did hear that after the game, I mean, there were people calling my post game show who had just got now the parking lot an hour and a half after the game. Well, even when they do have their normal operation out there, still kind of a grind getting out of Kroger Field after a game. I didn't realize that it was just a kind of a free-for-all good luck getting out.
Starting point is 00:26:48 I mean, I can't, can you imagine, especially a garage, like, if you don't have a police officer for a garage trying to turn in a couple of cases on campus left out of a garage, like against traffic, like you could be in there forever. They'll just decide, you know, we did our shift and they're supposed to be home. It's time. Like I said, it was port-a-old. Yeah, we can't be paying that overtime. Ryan knows how much it costs to be a city employee in this city.
Starting point is 00:27:11 I'm going to guess. This is just a guess. I'm going to guess that they had gone home to come back at the end of the game, and then the game ends early, and there's nobody there. That's just a guess. I have no idea if that's true. I'm assuming that also the protocol is after halftime, you can break it down, you know, get ready for exit another hour and a half, two hours later. The other thing that happened was if you went to the game and when it got delayed, you decided to leave, you couldn't.
Starting point is 00:27:39 because the traffic was coming in. So, like, people who from 7 to 9 were like, you know what, I'm just going to go home. They weren't even a lot. So, like, we had some people who left their cars there and walked to KS Bar because they couldn't get out. No way. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:58 So, Shannon, it was a little bit of survival of the finish. It's a game on Saturday. You know, that's one of those games I'm glad I definitely wasn't at. So you suspect there's been a lot of meetings today. Well, they should. I mean, you know, everyone makes mistakes. So yes, they do. Your sister is and your brothers and your dad and mother, too.
Starting point is 00:28:15 The key, though, is taking it and learning for the next. Yes. Like, that's the key. Who's next? Doing good. Doing good. What's up? Guys, hope you're doing well.
Starting point is 00:28:27 Thank you. Doing good. Just wanted to, you've touched on a little bit, but the, any of the Louisville fans that try to associate it on Kentucky, just stop. that's ridiculous to have what they went through on Saturday afternoon and then what the UK fans went through Sunday or Saturday into Sunday morning basically. I think just you already touched on shows you a just what a huge disparity
Starting point is 00:28:53 there actually is in the loyalty of the fan base. So it was real, wish I'd been able to be there actually, but that was just really show it how much we really support the Big Blue Nation. So anyway, Matt, on your way, out to Seattle. Are you going to be driving the entire time? Of course. Yeah, I'm not going to let these guys drive. Are you kidding me? Oh, good Lord. Okay. Has everybody there seen Yellowstone that you're taking with you? I've seen a, hey, I've seen like two episodes. Yeah. No, I'm sorry, the actual park.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Oh. I thought he meant the show too. I thought you meant the show. I don't know. I've seen it. Have you all seen Yellowstone? I've not been. All right. I would recommend this because if, it's, I thought you meant the show. I don't know. I don't know. I've seen it. I've not been. All right. I would recommend this. because if the way you're talking, if I'm, if I'm visiting this right. We're going to have to go to break. I'm sorry. You think we should go, right? Absolutely. All right. Appreciate it. We will take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. 8592-2-8027. On the text machine, one person writes, I got quiz questions for Shannon.
Starting point is 00:30:05 he's going to have to drive by my account through Kansas, Iowa, South Dakota, and Montana to get to Seattle. Which of those states is he looking forward to the most or least? Least is definitely Kansas. Like when we drive through Kansas, just give me the whole jar of cornbread hemp so I can fall asleep for a couple of days. I think we just touch Kansas. We go through Iowa mostly, but go ahead. Yeah, just as long as I don't have to do much of Kansas, I think I'll be okay with the rest of it. What's your most looking forward to?
Starting point is 00:30:32 I feel like we're going to be in Montana a lot So I feel like we're going to get a lot of Montana Yeah, I think Montana would be the state That I'm looking forward to I mean whether you like it or not You better like it because you're going to be there quite a bit Especially you said that's where your friends dude ranch is I did not say that
Starting point is 00:30:48 That's in South Dakota Oh South Dakota That's what I'm looking forward then South Dakota Said the opposite Yes no Montana's beautiful When I've been there one time I drove from Toronto
Starting point is 00:31:02 Canada all the way to, what was it, Calgary or Vancouver, whatever's the farthest west. Vancouver drove all the way around Canada, then came back through Montana, and Drew, it's beautiful. I think everybody's going to really like that. Looking forward to Montana. Hopefully we don't hit a lot of snow. I would like to see it, you know, I don't know what it will look like in December, but I'm going to have my cowboy hat in my best Kevin Costner impersonation. That was the trip where I was asked to, along with another person, to judge the Miss Hawaiian Tropic Saskatoon.
Starting point is 00:31:32 I think we'll get that opportunity on this trip. That did happen. I'm not kidding. We walked into a bar. The contest was going on. They couldn't believe two guys for Kentucky were in Saskatoon. The next thing you know. How about that?
Starting point is 00:31:44 They're like, you're surprised to see us. We're surprised to see this. I was surprised. When you think of Saskatoon, you wouldn't have thought that would have been the case. One person writes, Matt, we missed you last week on your Aspen trip. How did the play go? I was the assistant director. Well, we talked to them a bit of...
Starting point is 00:32:07 I didn't have a role. But I was in charge of like... Did you want a role? Did you want to be the... No, I did not want a role. You know, we had some people in our group who very much... They wanted a role. You know, the kind of they were...
Starting point is 00:32:20 And I was... The problem, I say this all the time, Drew, the problem with groups of liberals is that everyone thinks they should get to talk. Right? The problem with my side is... Everyone believes they should get to talk. And some people, Drew, shouldn't talk. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:32:38 Some people needs to be the stage hand person in the bag. Some people need to shut up and let other people do it. So quickly, I realized everybody wanted to talk. So I thought I'll be the person whose sole job is to say stop talk. And that's what I did. And then we had another person who in real life is a director, so it made sense for them to be the director. And I was the, please stop talking and let her talk.
Starting point is 00:33:00 You were the shush coordinator. I was in charge of shish. Did you tell the actual director anything that they should be doing? Didn't tell anything. I just would sometimes go, shh. It's a good job for you. That was perfect.
Starting point is 00:33:13 Who was watching this play? Like who? The people are, the moderators, the people in charge. Oh, and we're not allowed to talk about it. I can't tell you what we did.
Starting point is 00:33:21 Like, that's part of it. You don't talk about it. It's like fight club. Sounds like a big secret society. Did you all wear cloaks? Yeah. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:33:28 I'm part of a club that is now. I read about these on Reddit. Yes, we are now. We are the ones that run the world. Good to know. But the part I run is, I'm sure you did a great job with it.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Oh, I was very much like, shut up. That was my, that was literally my job. And when it was over, one guy was like, I really didn't like when you shushed me, but we probably needed it. And he was, like when you were talking. Well, he was actually the one who talked them off.
Starting point is 00:33:54 And I said, you were the one that needed to be shushed the most. How much rehearsing is done? It was a whole thing. Wasn't really. It was the whole thing. Did you get all your reading done in time? Got all my reading.
Starting point is 00:34:02 done. I have an article that everybody should read. I'll save it for another day because I want to talk about it. But there was an article in our group of readings about Kentucky. Really? It was literally about Kentucky. So not surprisingly, I was called on first for that day. But I enjoyed it. I mean, I make fun of it, but like, I really like it. It's a great group of people. They're on all ends of the political spectrum. They're interesting. They're nice. No jerks. 22 smart people, no jerks. and a lot of people, you know, who have done really amazing things. And so I'm, I can't believe I'm in it, to be honest with you. I can't believe they picked me, but it's been great.
Starting point is 00:34:42 Did you make it off the grounds and into Aspen? Was there free time where you're always doing? We're on a resort up in Bailey, 10,000 feet, which 10,000 feet's high. Like the altitude, I was congested the whole time. Like my son, because 10,000 feet, like, you're so high up that when you're in your room at night, they pump in oxygen into the room. Oh, wow. Yeah, so from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.,
Starting point is 00:35:05 they're pumping in oxygen the whole time, which actually oddly makes it hard to sleep because the oxygen keeps your brain. You know what I mean? That's why in Vegas, when you go to Vegas, you might have noticed like you never want to sleep. It's because the casinos are pumping in oxygen to keep you awake. I'm not kidding.
Starting point is 00:35:21 It's the oxygen. Yeah, it's the oxygen. But if that is true, that's what these cabins did. They would pump in oxygen so that you wouldn't get out. altitude, but a lot of people in our group got altitude sickness, got sick, et cetera. Because 10,000 feet's way up there. I mean, to give you example, Denver's only 5,000. So that double Denver.
Starting point is 00:35:39 We got pretty high in Denver at one point, so I can understand going to doubling that. Be crazy. Yeah, that's one way to put it. Who's up next? Zach. Zach, go ahead, Zach. But it was great. And thank you all for letting me do that.
Starting point is 00:35:50 I go to Amsterdam. I go to Amsterdam in April and then South Africa in September. It was really smooth when you left. Nothing went wrong. Nothing to miss. Don't listen to the podcast. Africa. That's pretty cool. That's going to be I've been to Amsterdam, but South Africa is going to be like
Starting point is 00:36:06 Get to meet Elon? Yeah, that's right. That is in our new punter. That's right. Our punter is from there. Okay, well, we'll have to talk to him about. Go ahead. Yeah, Zach, go ahead. Zach, go ahead. Hey, what's up, guys? What's going on? Hey, just a quick thing. Me and my wife were at the game on Saturday, and a lot of people were upset about, you know, them not selling beer during the lightning delay and stuff. My thought behind it was it's the same thing when they stopped selling beer at the third quarter,
Starting point is 00:36:35 just for people to sober up. You know, at that point in time, they didn't know if they were going to have to just cancel the game completely or not. So, you know, they don't want people getting, you know, super drunk and then driving home or anything like that. Yeah, but they've done that in games. Like, they do that at all games.
Starting point is 00:36:49 I mean, don't we stop in the fourth quarter at all games? I mean, that's the Reds. That's everywhere. Red stops after the seventh inning. So, yeah, I mean, that's like that's. That's like a normal thing. Right. That's just my thought is, you know, they do that to help people sober up. So at that point in time, you know, they don't even know if they're going to play the game or not, you know,
Starting point is 00:37:06 so they don't want people getting super drunk. That's true. No, that's a fair point. Yeah, because if they canceled the game. Well, there was a moment and I appreciate the call. I got a text message at like 925 that said everything's being looked at, including potentially postponing until tomorrow. So immediately my mind goes to, well,
Starting point is 00:37:26 Well, what do we do if we postpone until tomorrow? I knew we weren't staffed here at the bar for it. I also knew, like, if they canceled the game, everybody was going to flood this place. So, like, I drove down here to try to figure that stuff out. And then you want to know why they couldn't postpone it? Southern Miss had nowhere to stay. Already checked out? They had already checked out of the hotel.
Starting point is 00:37:51 So think about that for a minute. I don't even think it was paid. There was no hotel that could hold they needed 75 rooms, and there was no hotel that had 75 rooms that night that they could find quickly. So postponing became not an option because Southern Miss Shannon had nowhere to go. And I believe they had a plane that was waiting for them too, that had to take off at some point. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:16 So you don't think about things like that. Well, why don't we just play the game tomorrow at noon? They would have had to, I guess, sleep in the stadium. Like they would have had, so I think all of that made them go, well, we got to do it tonight, even if it's not perfect. Yeah, I think they even looked at trying to maybe move it to the biweek, but it just didn't coordinate. Our by weeks were not the same.
Starting point is 00:38:37 So what I understand is Murray State. So Southern Misses by week, we're scheduled to play Murray State. So I think they even called Murray State and said, could we play Southern Miss that week and then play you in our other by week? and Murray had a game that week, so they couldn't do it. So there was, they even thought about juggling the schedule around and Drew it just, it couldn't. So that's, and that was what was happening during those two hours.
Starting point is 00:39:05 Yeah, I think it ended up being outside of not getting your final, your third string into play. I think it worked out perfectly for UK, other than it's just being weird there for several hours. You won 31 and nothing, saw what you needed to see, nobody got hurt, got out of there. So I think they made the most of what they were able to do. Yeah. If you're looking for a great new home where you'll enjoy watching the games, How about Bluegrass HomeCenter.com? It's a family-owned business that specializes in meeting the needs of homebuyers with manufactured homes,

Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.

Starting point is 00:42:29 He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers
Starting point is 00:42:45 while he got the ball, like, after you go through a training camp with that, I say, you figure it out. real quick. Oh, yeah. Starting point is 00:43:18 What? Time out. Look. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Brett. My mama want you to weigh better. What? Where's she at?

Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Coutura Podcast Network available on the I-Hart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Shannon, you never know what people are going to get focused on. People are calling in and what are they saying? Oh, yeah, I had several callers.
Starting point is 00:44:47 All who seem to be angry. over your comment the casinos pumping oxygen they said no that's not true they're saying casinos don't pump they do not they say that's a myth and according to google it's a myth really yeah so i've always heard to be fair to you i've always heard that i've always heard that too but somehow they don't so casinos don't pump in oxygen no it's a myth somehow that got started and everybody believed it including us i believed it well they did pump in oxygen into my room because there was a sign that said you can turn on or turn off the oxygen. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:20 And honestly, have you ever, like, breathed pure oxygen? So they had a mask where you could plug in and, like, put it over your face and you would get the oxygen, like, directly to you. And I did it for, like, five minutes. It was a little overwhelming. It almost makes you feel too good. A little lightheaded? A little bit, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:35 Should have brought that home for Ryan when he sleeps. Actually, yeah. I mean, it was, I don't think I had ever done that before, where you just have, like, direct oxygen only flow. and it was kind of like, yeah, I don't know about Lighthead. It just felt like you were like pure or something. Get a little recharge.
Starting point is 00:45:53 Feel a little better. One person writes, Matt is now in the Illumma Maddie. It's a terrible name. It is a terrible name. But it's one of those that's so bad, do you giggle? I do, exactly. Another person writes, Matt, was appreciating the call of everyone at the flight.
Starting point is 00:46:07 You know, you're a director. Assistant director. Assistant director. I was assistant to the regional director. You were the assistant manager, the ass man. Well, I want to say one thing before we go back. You say ass man. The assistant manager.
Starting point is 00:46:22 He's back. He's back. That's how you know, like when, when, I mean, my joke was bad, but like. He likes to kick on. I do want to know before we go the phone, Kyle Tucker. Yes. So Kyle Tucker announced on Friday, he is retiring from the sports writing business. He's going to go do something else.
Starting point is 00:46:41 He has been a sports writer for 21 years. Kyle Tucker has been a sports writer. I. if you listen to the show you know Kyle and I have had many feuds over the years although for the last few years it's been been much better and I like the guy but I think objectively you know whatever you thought of Kyle or his online persona Kyle is if not the best he may be one of the two or three but I think he might be the best beat writers that Kentucky's ever had in terms of writing interesting stories features especially towards the end of the Cal era. When he kind of had a connection for a few years, he just wrote really good stuff. The last article he wrote about Willie Colley-Stein
Starting point is 00:47:27 was fascinating. Kentucky basketball press coverage is worse with him going. I wish him nothing but happiness, and he's moving on something he's excited about. But he did an excellent, excellent job. back, you know, the only person I can think of in my time following as a Kentucky fan was Chuck Culpepper. And he was even more of almost a columnist when I was reading him. But to me, those are the two best at doing this. And I wish Kyle the best. And I was sad to see that he's going
Starting point is 00:48:03 because Kentucky fans will miss what he brought to the scene. Yeah, I'm texting with Kyle when he announced that I'm happy for him. He gets to have weekends and hang out with his family and have a job with a little bit of routine. But I'll miss seeing him around at games. Those became a little more few and far between when he moved to Nashville. But we'd always find a way to catch up, and especially towards the end of the Cal area. What are you hearing? What are you here?
Starting point is 00:48:24 You know, we share our gossip back and forth. He has some crazy stories. Like, we need to, I'm going to see if he will do a podcast or something, a show where he talks. I mean, when Cal kind of excommunicated me, there was a period of a couple years where he became that guy, and then he got excommunicated too. But those two years, he knew some stuff, you know, and he would tell me things I'd be like, what? But I know, Ryan, you've done this a long time.
Starting point is 00:48:54 Like, do you agree with me? He's one of the best to do it? He is very, very good at what he does, you know, and that expose he did on Cal before the season started, I think what's going to be his legacy. All of which ended up being true. Yes. He wrote that thing before last year, got destroyed. I mean, fans destroyed him, the pro-Cal people.
Starting point is 00:49:13 for writing it and every single part of it was true and everything he said kind of came to be in the next year and you know people didn't like it but he you know Jerry tipton's another one like that Kyle wasn't quite as negative as Jerry but they were both very similar in the I'm just going to say what I think it is and and we'll miss that I'm proud of him you know he's got a young set of twins he can be a dad now you know his wife's had some health issues so yeah it's why and that's some people don't know a lot of people. His wife had some serious health issues, and he's been there for all of them. So I salute Kyle and wish him nothing but the best on whatever, whatever is next for him.
Starting point is 00:49:56 Who's next, Shannon? Terry. Terry, go ahead, Terry. Yeah, Matt, you mentioned Drew Deiner. I wanted to bring this up. His buddy, Mark Blankenbecker, they have people that listen to our show, and then they report back to Blankinbecker. and they say when you mess up. So I just wanted to correct you before they get a chance to.
Starting point is 00:50:18 You said earlier about Louisville's schedule. They don't play Florida State. Florida State's not on their schedule. And then my one thing I wanted to make about the game, I don't want to sound like the get off my lawn guy, but I can't stand all the chirping that goes on with the players after plays and stuff. And in a game against Georgia or Ole Miss or Tennessee or Texas,
Starting point is 00:50:42 this might matter. If you're in the first half, they give us a gift on a fake punt, and we take it in to go up 24-noughton with under a minute. On the kickoff, we headbutty guy for no reason. Stoops lost it. Stoops lost it on that kid. That was just a, yeah, you can't do that. You're exactly right. Because they'll make us pay for that and take all his momentum back. Thanks, guys. You're exactly right. We can't. We do, I mean, the team walks that line, Drew, right? Like this team has a chip on their shoulder and they kind of walk that line and you got to be careful not to cross it. And he walked into it. He wasn't even really in the mix. He went out of the way to go get that headbut in. But I'll say this about the end of the first half as one of my takeaways.
Starting point is 00:51:26 I didn't know we were allowed to score touchdowns before half time in Kentucky. Bush Hamden said, no, we got enough time to put in seven more. So there's been years where Kentucky loses the end of the half. It might not be the case now. They got aggressive. What did you think about the Bush Hamden play calling. I had no complaint with it, you know, and I like the fact he's calling the quarterback draws, you know, the quarterback's going to run this year. And I think that's why they like eventually Gavin Wimson getting on the field a little bit. So, yeah, he didn't play, though, at all. Didn't play at all this game. It makes you wonder, though, if he didn't play, I know it was, but, like, we kept hearing he was going to play a lot of plays. He played no plays. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:58 Yeah, I assumed they were about to go to him in the second half with that. But I did expect him to get a little more, especially in the red zone in the first half. I like Hamden just airing it out with Vandergriff, the five straight deep balls pretty much. Yeah. It's, A, we're not used to seeing a lot of that, but B, it shows how much confidence they have in him right away to let him do that. That's true. Who's next? Ed.
