Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-2802287. Text machine is 772-745254.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Beautiful day here. And Louisville, Kentucky, KS Bar is open. Come on out and see us. Remember all day to day, some specials on the Kentucky N I.O. beer where basically, if you drink it, you're essentially making sure Kentucky can win. I mean, you become the Joe Kraft of beer. Joe Draft. How about that?
Starting point is 00:03:20 That's why we pay him the big bucks. He says things like Joe Draft. Good job. Also, a couple quick things here. First of all, on the TikTok. if you are either in college or just out of college and you're good at TikTok, we are looking for someone to be on camera on TikTok with Mario at UK, like tailgates, at the bar during games, etc.
Starting point is 00:03:50 If you know somebody that somebody who's already done it, right? Like you do it. You have a presence on TikTok. Write me. Actually send me a DM on Instagram, which is K. Y Sports Radio or reach out to Mario and we're trying to find someone who will, because we're expanding that presence for the radio show. So if you know somebody or you know your kid or your friend or whatever that's good at it,
Starting point is 00:04:15 Mario is going to be doing a lot of stuff and he wants another, we're going to have another person with him, but I need to hear from you by Friday. So reach out to me. Instagram DM is the easiest way for me to see it because that's kind of what we're using to organize it. So it's a great chance for somebody. if you have never been on, if you want to do social media and you've never really had, or you have a presence and you want to make it bigger, this is the way to do it.
Starting point is 00:04:41 So reach out. And you also need to know something about sports and you've got to be able to interact with people. Those are the things that we're looking for. You get to work alongside Mario, a credentialed member of the UK media. Get to work. We get to work around with Mario, which is going to be, I mean, what else is better than that? Now, the NFL season starts tonight. Ravens with Derek Henry.
Starting point is 00:05:03 The former Titan. Burr Henry has moved to the Ravens, and they're going to play the Chiefs. Always a great opening game. We'll have it here at the bar. I want you to watch after the show on social media. I'm going to do a little special something for people, just so you know. But the game starts tonight.
Starting point is 00:05:20 So let's do our NFL predictions. We always do. Give me, Ryan, your Super Bowl. Who is going to make the Super Bowl this year? I think one year you said, like Texans and, commanders and that was like three years ago and it was terrible. What is your prediction this year? I'm going to go.
Starting point is 00:05:39 My team, I think, that I'm going to go with this year is the Detroit Lions. That's not a huge surprise. I think they're what they did last year. And plus, I really like the Amman St. Brown. I think he's great. You said that like you were just reading the name for the first time. I want to make sure I said it right. So I'm going to go the Lions.
Starting point is 00:06:00 over the Chiefs? Lions over the Chiefs. Well, I can't get too mad at you because I'm taking Chiefs over the lines. Oh, are you? I'm going to be mine. I'm got the, you know, at this point,
Starting point is 00:06:12 you can't bet against Patrick Mahomes. I mean, like, until my Holmes lose, I'm getting my homes like I was with Brady. Until he doesn't make it, I'm going to keep taking him. So I'm going to say they basically got, they might be better than they were last year. Honestly, they have better players. So I'm going to take Mahomes over the
Starting point is 00:06:30 Lions. What about you, Shannon? I like the Chiefs as well. It's hard to pick against them for the NFC. I'm going to pick my Packers. I think they've got a good team this year. Chiefs over Packers. That's not a crazy one at all? Packers over Chiefs. Oh, you're taking Packers? Of course. I don't take that. If I'm going to take the Packers to the Super Bowl, I'm not going to take the Chiefs to beat them. All right. So you're taking Packers over Chiefs. That's a little bit of an extension. All right, what about you? I don't want to be lame, but I've already given this pick on Fade this sticking with it. I have the Chiefs like everyone else. I think they have one more ring in them and then the decline will start after this season.
Starting point is 00:07:02 And I have Chiefs beating the Eagles who bounced back after their defense was terrible last year. I think they get back to Tush pushing and they get back in the Super Bowl. They don't have Jason Kelsey to Tush in the push. But I think they were better than they were last year. They fixed some things in the secondary and I think they'll be back. Okay. Give me a surprise team. What's a surprise team you think kind of comes out of nowhere and is better than people think?
Starting point is 00:07:26 Ryan? Like Houston was that team last year What's your team this year? I'm going to say the Falcons Falcons, okay? Why the Falcons? Just because with Josiah and I were going over some teams last night on our Survivor League and I like the Falcons schedule.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I'm going to pick the Falcons. Who is the Falcons quarterback? Matt Ryan. Steve Bartowski. No, do you really know? I do not know. I mean, it's Kirk Cousins. Oh, I try it.
Starting point is 00:07:53 And they drafted a quarterback. Yeah. So, I mean, Kirk Cousins, you might want to know, the quarterback for the team that is your going to be your surprise team. My surprise team is not a huge surprise because people like them. But I'm taking my Chicago Bears.
Starting point is 00:08:08 I think we're going to have my man, Caleb Williams. I saw on a thing, they asked fans of teams, are you optimistic about your team this season? Number one was the Detroit Lions fan base. Number two was the Chiefs, and then number three was the Bears. Wow.
Starting point is 00:08:24 We are more excited than we've, ever been. Caleb Williams is good. I think they're going to be like the three seed or I think we're, well, they probably won't win the division. So they'll be the five seed. But they're going to, I think they're going to win like 10, 10 or 11 games. I'm taking the Bears.
Starting point is 00:08:41 I'm going to say, you know, there's so many teams that are in the conversation this year, it's hard to pick a true sleeper. But I hate to say, I think Aaron Rogers has one more great season in him. I think the Jets are actually going to be good. Their defense is good. Rogers has weapons. It's unfortunate what happened to him last. year I think he has one last ride and they have a good season.
Starting point is 00:09:00 All right, what about you, Shannon? I wanted to pick the Jets since he picked them though. You know, the Bingoes finished last place. That's not a surprise. That you can't take the because that's just because Joe Burrow was hurt. You can't pick them. Okay, then I'll pick the Jets then. All right, I'll let you take the Jets.
Starting point is 00:09:14 You can't take the Bidgles last year. You can't take the second best quarterback in the NFL and say it's a surprise team. That's not a... I think they have the second best odds in the AFC, third, maybe behind the Ravens. Yeah. Well, all right. So I like all those. All of us kind of taking a little bit of a chance.
Starting point is 00:09:31 Tonight I'm putting together at any time touchdown parlay. I'm going to get crazy with my boosty boost. Going a little Kelsey, little Henry, trying to decide on the third. We'll talk about, we are going to have a thing where you can follow me and Drew, but everything's taking a long time to get worked out because we're all. There's so much going on right now here at the start of the year. So we'll talk more about that later. Now the question was, do players get their money in an NIL lump sum?
Starting point is 00:09:56 or do they get it over the course of the year? The answer is it depends. Sometimes it's a lump sum, sometimes it's the course of the year. Generally speaking, how most players are getting their money is they get a lump sum that is a significant part of the money, and then the last part is paid when the season is over as a way to make sure that they stay to the end of the year. So I think it tends to be, from what I've heard you hear, like 40%
Starting point is 00:10:26 20%, 40% at the end of the year, something like that. And I think that's generally how it is. But the reality is the players can negotiate what they want. But most schools are kind of standing firm and saying you're not getting the last one until the season ends. And that's kind of how it is right now. Some of the basketball players last year, I know I had monthly, but they all kind of negotiate their own terms. Yeah, there's no standardized contract for this. It kind of just between the athlete and the business.
Starting point is 00:10:53 They can negotiate and write their own contract however they want. Most of the players, though, are saying an X amount up front. And what you've seen at some schools is they get told that amount, and then it's not there and they've left. Yeah. Right. So, I mean, there are, but it really is a free-for-all. People, and this is why ultimately Congress is going to have to get involved,
Starting point is 00:11:12 because it is a free-for-all. The players, for the most part, have all the leverage, because they can just go somewhere else. So it is kind of up in the air at every point, Drew. Yeah, it just can't go like this forever. I mean, some of these players are getting outrageous amounts of money and the people writing the checks, I don't think they're all getting the return they're expecting
Starting point is 00:11:36 in some of these investments. Yeah, well, we shall see, but it is, but yeah, I think the, to answer your question, that's how it generally works out. 859-28027. Who's up next? Dan. Dan, go ahead, Dan.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Hey, Matt. Look, this is the best football in our 70. I mean, we've finally got a quarterback. I think the best quarterback since Tim Couch. Our defensive line, our linebackers, the best we've ever had. And our receivers, no doubt, best we ever have. Let me ask you this. If there's a weakness, I think it may be on the,
Starting point is 00:12:23 Offensive line. I think that's fair. It's questionable and the defensive backfield. Yeah, I like our defensive backfield, generally speaking. I appreciate the call, but I think the offensive line is the weakness. You know, like I said, I was worried about the fact that our right tackle got beat five times on Saturday night, but he was lining up against a guy that has NFL potential and it's a small sample size. right? We played a half and five minutes, so I don't want to say it's a disaster.
Starting point is 00:12:58 But remember, his backup is Cortland Ford, and he's out for the game. So he's going to have to play. Like, Mincey is going to have to play, and he's going to have to play well, and that's the only thing I can see that is worrisome to me, Ryan, going into this next game. Yeah, if there is a question, it is just kind of the right side of the line. I think the left side of the line played pretty well. They're going to be solid. That right side, I think they're still trying to get it solidified.
Starting point is 00:13:23 The safeties have four guys that have played a lot. We all know their names very well, but they still need to be a little better and take the next step forward. I think Brad White even called him out a little bit this week in his post-practice interviews saying the safeties need to improve. They've all got experience at this point. They just need to make a jump forward. Do you – I mean, when you look at this game Saturday, the 10-point spread is still insane to me. I mean, we talked about it on fade this. Drew and I did fade this yesterday, and we talked about –
Starting point is 00:13:52 It's just 10 points a lot. Like, it's a lot. And this is an SEC team that has beaten us two years in a row. It feels like our fans believe this is going to be easy, and I just can't get there. Am I just not, should I get there? You should get there. I mean, can always be proven wrong,
Starting point is 00:14:14 but their quarterback looked really bad for in his first start last week. And they lucked into the points they got by getting turnovers. So as long as Kentucky, doesn't turn it over, I just don't see sellers, the quarterback, turning into something in six days and having a good game on the road in the SEC. So long as Kentucky's offense can get in the mid to high 20s, I don't think South Carolina can't get anywhere near that. You just think South Carolina cannot score.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Yeah, I mean, Old Dominion's not a good team. They're pretty comparable to Southern Miss, and South Carolina needed two key turnovers just to get points. So do you think that 10 points spread is more based on not Kentucky looking that good, South Carolina looking that bad. I mean, preseason it was like six and a half. So it's changed three and a half points, which is a lot. But I don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:00 Maybe they stink. I mean, maybe they stink. I hope they do because we need this win. But they do have that good pass rush. The stars that freshman that's lined up against Mency. So if you're talking about weakness versus strength, their strength is lining up against our weakness. Their defensive line is their strength. And our offensive line, at least the right-hand side is our weakness.
Starting point is 00:15:24 And you're right, they have a freshman that is clowny reincarnated. They've got a freshman that's going to be, we're going to be hearing about him for three years. He's going to be a top five or ten pick in three years. And he's going to be lining up against the guy that had all the problems in the first game. And that's the one part. I'm going to be those first few plays. I'm going to be watching and seeing does he get beat? Because Mincy was so slow off the ball.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Like one time the guy got off sides. But for the most part, he was just getting beat a lot. Really, both positions we just named. The line has to have a good game, and I think they'll be fine, and the safeties need to be better. Their quarterback didn't seem like you could throw it. He runs a little bit. They've added Rocket Sanders, who's at Arkansas.
Starting point is 00:16:07 So they're going to try to run the ball. If Kentucky makes him throw, if they gets a little lead in South Carolina and start throwing, it's going to be a very long night for South Carolina. But they can run the ball and they can rush the passer. 859-2-80-22.87. We got a couple of lines. give us a shout. Let me tell you a little bit about court physical therapy. You know, I was told by some folks that if you have vertigo, court physical therapy could help.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Do you've considered it? Oh, I'm going Wednesday. You are? Yeah, I couldn't get into Wednesday, but yeah, I'm going. Wait a minute. Today is Thursday. Yeah. Next Wednesday. I couldn't get it, get in until you're saying they got so much business. I guess so, yeah. See, that's what I'm saying. That's how many people are going to court. They can't even get Ryan Lemon in. It's court physical therapy. If you have pain, no reason to be in pain. Say you have vertigo.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Say you're just not able to move as well. You get older. Get it fixed. Go to court physical therapy. Don't need a doctor referral. There's one near you. It's KORT.com. We will take a break and be right back here at Kentucky Sports Bar and Grill.
Starting point is 00:17:08 This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. And nobody's telling you exactly. What happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in.
Starting point is 00:17:20 I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer-beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Starting point is 00:17:47 Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Starting point is 00:18:17 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Starting point is 00:18:41 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, fam?
Starting point is 00:19:02 It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:19:23 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Starting point is 00:19:45 Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball, like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
Starting point is 00:20:01 So listen to Point Game on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliver Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
Starting point is 00:20:20 hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor.
Starting point is 00:20:55 I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike! I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrat as part of the MyCultura podcast network available on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the KS Bar and Grill. 859-280-2287. Come on out. Remember the game tonight. Get here 7 o'clock, 6.30, something like that. Well, games what at 8. So you can get there. I mean, honestly, you're a free person. You can get there whenever you want. But if you can do the boosty boost, 100% profit boost today, it's really good. Let me ask you about the Western-Eastern fiasco. Oh, I love this story. So Western's playing the Eastern for the first time since what, the 1860? When was the last time they played? They played once in 16 years.
Starting point is 00:22:21 Once in 16 years. They renew the rivalry. Eastern is going to Western. Is that correct? That's correct. And I guess Western wanted to have a whiteout and wear their white home uniforms. But Eastern said, sorry, we're wearing white. And I guess does the road team get to decide?
Starting point is 00:22:42 The road team wears white unless both teams agree to make a change. Road team wears white unless both teams agree. us both teams get to choose. So Western comes out and says, no, or Eastern comes out and says, no, we're wearing white. We're Eastern. Western goes, come on, we want to have a white out. Can we wear white? Eastern says, no. So Western puts out a statement that's like, well, we already announced the white out. You know what? Eastern, though, is screwing it up. Do you like the pettiness on the Eastern Western wearing white rivalry? You are right. It is so petty, but I'm here for Every second of it.
Starting point is 00:23:17 I love it. And if you know the history between these two schools, they hate each other, especially when it comes to football in the years past, hate each other. I love it. And so as soon as I heard this story, I knew Shannon the dude, this has got him written on. It was such a hill move for EKU. I don't care you're having a whiteout. Guess what?
Starting point is 00:23:36 We're still going to wear white. So EKU's like a 20-point underdog or something in the game. Do you like that EKU's like, you know what, Western, shut up. We're wearing white, and you can white out. and your fans will be cheering for us. Do you like that? Why, yeah, why does Eastern Kentucky have to play along and change their color of uniform
Starting point is 00:23:54 because of what Western Kentucky wants? It's within their right to wear their whites on the road. If they want to do it, let them do it. I love it. He'll love it. So you like the colonels talking trash. It's also you versus Billy a little bit here too, right? It is.
Starting point is 00:24:09 But, I mean, like, how hard is it if you're Western Kentucky to go, you know what? We're not doing a white out. We're going to do a red out. Everybody, where you're red? It's not that hard. It's not that difficult. How you doing? So you're not leaving us, are you? Oh, okay. I was just making...
Starting point is 00:24:20 Do you like it, Drew? Yeah, I'm a Western Kentucky, and I would normally side with the Hilltoppers here, but I love that Eastern is doing this. You know, as we said, it's a long-time rivalry that ended because Western jumped up to a new level. They kind of just left Eastern behind. Now that they're renewing the rivalry this season, Eastern's coming in hot. They're not waiting until Saturday. They're rivaling already.
Starting point is 00:24:41 You know, they wear the whites in the way. Why do they have to change so Western can? and have an even better atmosphere. I agree with what they're doing. Is it, we're not having a whiteout, are we Saturday? I saw a post about it, but it looked to me like somebody, just some kid just announced it, which I don't think. All of our random Twitter accounts try to create events.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Look, I appreciate the thought from the random Twitter accounts. I like your excitement. I like your movement. But don't announce whiteouts or blackouts or blueouts that are not the outs, because then when they have the actual outs, people will not know that the outs are the actual outs. So like if you're Kentucky dot football dot happy, don't announce a whiteout because people get confused. And then so as far as I can tell, there's no official. I haven't seen UK announce a whiteout.
Starting point is 00:25:32 If UK announces it, then get on board with it. But we can't announce our own whiteouts. There are 65,000 people in that place. It's hard enough to get them to do something when it's official. You can't get them to do it when it's unofficial or you will confuse people. So I appreciate the intent, Ryan, but people need to not do that. Yeah, we're getting better. When we're trying to do these things.
Starting point is 00:25:54 We are getting better. We are getting better. We are getting better. I want to say that for the fans. I kind of used to be a believer that we're not capable of doing that and we are doing better. Yeah, we are. But let's, in order to make it work, don't be like, today I decide it's a peppermint out. Like just let them do it.
Starting point is 00:26:15 We don't want to be Western. We want to match our team. Our players aren't playing on waiting. Yeah, they'll announce that on Friday. Okay. All right. Who's up next? Cathead.
Starting point is 00:26:24 Cathead. How are you cathead? All right, guys. No. Okay. We don't wait on Bluetooth. Go ahead. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:37 I've got a, it's just a weird question. We're talking about the NILs and all this conference movement got me thinking, the other night, you know, USC traveling all over the country now, being in the Big Ten. Do you know what it costs to, for a team to travel? Just say like Kentucky. You look this up, I think, Drew. We were to unfaed this. How much did you say California was paying in the ACC?
Starting point is 00:27:01 It wasn't. They were paying. How many miles they were traveling? Yeah, it's got to be. It's insanely expensive, sir, to your question. I mean, so when a team goes, so like when Kentucky goes on a road football game, They are chartering a plane, a commercial airline. I don't know what that costs, but like private planes are like $10,000.
Starting point is 00:27:24 So like a commercial plane, I can't even imagine what it costs. I'm sure UK gets a deal, so I'm sure like they're not paying market value, but it is still expensive. Oh, yeah. What about all the equipment? Well, it goes on the plane, although there are some equipment. Some equipment is taken by a truck. They drive that. So like the plane can't take like all the helmets and all that stuff.
Starting point is 00:27:47 So Cal, for instance, I did see a story about this. When they play a road football game, their equipment truck is leaving like Monday from Cal and driving all the way across the country. And they've tried to schedule it where they have two road games in a row, not for the team. Teams are going to fly back. But then the truck will stay there. The truck will stay on the East Coast so that it can go to the next one before. Because otherwise they're just going to be driving. and back and forth, sir, all year long.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Yeah, that's crazy. That's what got me thinking about there now when I saw USC and the LSU. I was like, because they're in the big 10 now. They've got to be, I mean, in Cal's same way, just like you said, it's got to be ridiculous what they're paying to get these teams back and forth just to be in a certain conference. Yeah, I agree. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:28:31 I'd be interested. What do you think? Let's just take a guess. What do you think it costs to charter a jet airplane? Like a commercial jet. So just the flight, I was going to do the whole number. Let's do the gas too. I mean, I was thinking like a trip like hotels everything just put aside the hotels just the plane
Starting point is 00:28:47 and the jet fuel how much you think it costs 20 25,000 it's more than that I think it's more than that more than that because you know you just get a small jet it's 10,000 yeah they're taking a lot of people I will say 30,000 an hour I'm gonna say I think that's yeah you got to do it by the hour yeah I'm gonna say I'm gonna go 20 I think that's a good guess
Starting point is 00:29:10 27,000 an hour what do you think shit probably about i would say a little bit more maybe 35 to 40 okay i don't know that we're going to get this like i'm just probably went a little high we're just saying we're just saying numbers but i mean i don't know it's going to be expensive i'm sure uk and the schools get a deal but it's not like mark pope can use brett sitzer or joe craft's plane to fly to a recruit but you can't do that with a commercial airliner i don't know anybody that owns a commercial legit. So we'll take a break. Be right back. KS.R. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:29:53 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. 8592802287. For a plane big enough to carry the UK football team, charter costs are $30,000 an hour. Nailed it. Which is exactly what Drew said. I fly charter planes a lot. I saw, I found a young. Yahoo story where Nebraska said they pay an average of 175,000 a charter flights. That's right there around where we're guessing. If you're doing the back and forth at 30,000 an hour. Like you're doing that multiple times a year.
Starting point is 00:30:28 You know, now with the exception of their Kentucky flies charter for their basketball team, most teams do not do that. I mean, a lot of the big teams do, Power 5, but like Moorhead State does not fly charter. They fly commercial. I think most of the of UK's teams that are not basketball or football fly commercial. So when I'm in an airport, I see college teams all the time of all kinds of sports flying. I even see UK people a lot. Yeah, so they're flying commercial flights for the most part.
Starting point is 00:31:02 So really it's the football. And like I said, I mean, Kentucky basketball flies charter. But, you know, I remember one of the things with Cal is that UK wanted them to take a bus to Nashville. and Cal was like, we're flying charter. And that was always, you know. Do they fly to Knoxville? They flew to Knoxville. Well, no.
Starting point is 00:31:20 I know the football team drives. Because they stop at Cumberland's in practice. The football team drives to Knoxville, and I think the football team drives to Nashville. Yes, they do. But the basket, it was always a point of contention that Cal was like, we are flying to Nashville. And I think UK was like, come on, man. It's 100 grand. Like, can we, can we take a bus?
Starting point is 00:31:44 And they're like, and Cal would be like, no. I could see Cal flying himself private without the team. I mean, not that that's never happened. That happened many times. I mean, Missouri. There were many situations, including after the NCAA tournament when we lost to St. Peters, when he flew separately from Indianapolis instead of going with the team after losing in the NCAA tournament.
Starting point is 00:32:12 I mean, that, unfortunately, was something that happened. It's the only time the UK basketball team was ever in a bus is when they go to Louisville, isn't it? I think that's the only time that they actually take a bus. I mean, they, I know they flew to, I mean, remember when we went to Indianapolis for the NCAA tournament, they put, now the NCAA plays for those flights. When you go to the NCAA tournament, the NCAA, I think, does pay the flights of the teams there for the NCAA tournament.
Starting point is 00:32:40 That's the one part I think that gets paid for. Who's up next? Kentucky Gasman. Kentucky Gasman. How are you? I'm doing great, guys. So, Matt, I took your advice on which game to go to. So being some buddies have got tickets to South Carolina game Saturday.
Starting point is 00:32:59 Okay. Something in the past that I've really never done is take to make a day of it. Yeah. You just show that at the game time. So I'm looking for. I got your day. You want your day? You want your day?
Starting point is 00:33:14 First off, first off, one thing we're definitely done for sure. We want to park at KSR and come and take in the bar there. All right. So you want your day? I'll give you your day. Yeah. So for Saturday, we're actually opening early. We're opening at 10.
Starting point is 00:33:30 So I would say, get your day started. Get here around 10. Spend a couple hours here. Then since you don't go to games normally, you know, I like people to stay through the pregame show. But if you never go to a game, you ought to go experience the tailgate lot. So get on here. If you get here at 10, you might have to Uber to the stadium because the buses don't start
Starting point is 00:33:48 until, like, what, one maybe, 1230. So get to the stadium, walk around. Go to the catwalk, walk around. You might even get to the end of SEC Nation or something like that. Go inside early. That's a mistake I think people make. Go inside early. Watch the teams warm up.
Starting point is 00:34:07 That's how you get to know the players, especially if you don't only go to the one game, I would do that. Then watch the game. If you have kids after the game, go to that little walk, I told you, where the players come out. Your kids will get to meet the players, take pictures. For kids, it's like their favorite part of the game there when they walk there. Then take the bus, come back here, maybe have dinner at the bar, watch whatever the night game is. Then again, if you're not in Lexington a lot, go out downtown. Since the game's going to be over at like 830 at 630 or 7, after you have dinner, you can go down. downtown, Lexington's downtown on a game night, especially if we win, it's fun, and that's how I would make a day of it.
Starting point is 00:34:48 Maybe even at some point between your morning here at the bar and the game, walk on campus and go to the campus bookstore. I was there two days ago. The selection of stuff they have is crazy, or you can go out in Nicholsville Road, Kentucky branded. They have a ton of stuff too. But that's, sir, what I would do if I was coming to a game that I'd only do once a year. So do I need to pass the park there when I get to the bar Saturday? No, you just have to have come in and you have to go to one of these restaurants and eat, and if you do that, then you're fine to then go and leave your car.
Starting point is 00:35:22 But we do make sure you can't. We watch, just so you know, we have people watching to make sure you don't just park the car and then get on the bus. We don't, the restaurants. I'm going to say catch by three touchdowns. That would be awesome. Three touchdowns, right? What do you think? I think Kentucky's going to win.
Starting point is 00:35:40 Three touchdown seems a lot. I think Kentucky's defense is just so good and South Carolina's offense has kind of struggled it looks like after their first game. So that's what they could hold them down and maybe make that gap a little wider than it should be. What do you think about Memphis? So Memphis, Penny lets his whole staff go.
Starting point is 00:35:55 Report comes out this morning of multiple NCAA violations, including direct payments from university folks to basketball players. We are one month and a half before the start of practice, and Penny has no staff at all. You're never going to convince me that the entire staff did it except him. Everybody knew except the head coach. What do you make of all of it?
Starting point is 00:36:24 Came up because someone wrote an anonymous letter to the NCAA snitching on them. It seems Penny's that person, like an anonymous letter snitching. Seems Penny's clearing house to maybe save face and maybe blame everyone. else? I don't know, but what a mess to have on your hands, right, as you're about to get your team together and start preseason practices here in a few weeks. I remember when Penny took that job. It was a little bit like Dion. Everybody said, well, he's revolutionizing the game. He'll get all the players. He'll blah, blah, blah. They remember he brought Larry Brown in to be an assistant coach, and it was, oh, they're going to be this, they're going to be that. Not going to happen, right?
Starting point is 00:37:01 Is anybody really shocked that Penny Hardaway got in trouble for skirting the rules a little bit? I don't know, after I read that this morning, I don't know how he, they saved his job. I mean, I guess they just didn't want to have a complete new coaching staff going into the season a month and a half and away, but how did he survive? It must be that they, like, have to figure out how to keep going. You know, the letter, and it's just an anonymous letter with the allegations, but it mentions him by name is facilitating a lot of the payments. So how did he survive?
Starting point is 00:37:29 I guess probably hasn't yet. We got to have, yeah, we got to have someone coach the team. but it is interesting how Penny was Dion before Dion. And I'm kind of of the belief. I don't know if Dion's going to get in trouble for cheating, but I think the Dion experiment is going to flame out too. I mean, I think both of those, you know, style matters a lot, but substance also matters, right?
Starting point is 00:37:53 I mean, take the guy at Notre Dame. What's the name of the coach at Notre Dame? Marcus Freeman. Freeman. That's not a flashy guy, although I will tell you, every woman I've seen turn on a Notre Dame game is like that see you're shaking your head over there Marcus Freeman is like every woman is into Notre Dame's coach I didn't know that I didn't know that you didn't know that I let me give you a challenge do a chance does who's Notre Dame play this week
Starting point is 00:38:19 turn on the Notre Dame game in front of your girl and see if she doesn't look at you and say who's that I'm just telling you well Abby's a Notre Dame fan she always watches them so now I'm going to have to look closely. Like, are you watching the football? You think she's a Notre Dame fan? You think she was watching that close when Lou Holtz coached? I think she grew up as a fan, but I'm still going to, I've got my guard up now. I'm just telling you, I've seen twice situations where friends of mine's wives have had the Notre Dame game on and go, wait a minute, who's that guy?
Starting point is 00:38:53 Really? I'm just telling you. Okay. But what I was going to say is he was more substance over flash. He's quiet. Yeah. He doesn't say a lot. And they just went in one at A&M.
Starting point is 00:39:05 Dion's kind of the opposite. And, you know, maybe it'll work. But last year he won four games, and we'll see what happens this week. They played Nebraska this week, right? Yeah. Were they looking at Charlie Wise that way at Notre Dame? Maybe it's just the position, or is really that handsome.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Interesting. So they go from Lou Holtz to Charlie Weiss and then Brian Kelly. You think there was like a rule where the female boosters were like, look, You got to do better than this. Bring in some hot guys next time. At some point. Actually, one person writes, Matt, I agree. I'm a female listener.
Starting point is 00:39:45 I agree that coach is hot. What do you think women would rank the UK basketball coaches in hotness? This is a tough one for us to do. Fredo Young Petino first. Patino's number one. Is it Young Patino? Oh, yes. Young Patino had this state on its edge, yes.
Starting point is 00:40:05 Oh, Patino still had something on their edge. Patino never really stopped that. All right, so he's first. Who's last? Adolf. Probably Adolf. No offense. Yeah, I mean.
Starting point is 00:40:19 You don't think Adolf was like, you don't think ladies are like, hey, off. Ooh. Could have been. Just over time, it changed a little bit. So what about this ranking? Would you go, Patino, Cal, Billy, Tubby, Eddie, Joe B, Adolf.
Starting point is 00:40:38 That's pretty good. Billy probably thought of himself as number one or number two. I think women liked Billy at first. I think there was, I remember. Some did for sure. I think there was a Billy moment. Yeah. There was definitely a Billy moment.
Starting point is 00:40:53 And then there was like, okay, Billy, that's enough moments. So I don't know if you'd flip-flop. yeah Billy and Cal there or would you flip flop any set in Joe B we think of Cal at the end but Cal when he got here Full hair all swag
Starting point is 00:41:13 it was very swaggy still pretty slender yeah Mario don't put a social video social media video out of us ranking the coaches yeah let's not do KSR ranks the hotness of Kentucky basketball coaches but we will do the football coaches after the

And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
Starting point is 00:44:24 he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.

Text machine 772-774-5254. One person writes Matt, you're talking about the basketball coaches. How do you think ladies would rank the KSR crew? Oh, that's a tough thing.
Starting point is 00:46:49 You have to be careful saying that. I'm last. No. I'll go ahead and put that on the table. Wait a minute. Are you just volunteering last? Absolutely. You're putting yourself behind Billy?
Starting point is 00:47:00 Yes, I am definitely last. I'm probably the billy last. Poor Billy. Okay, so I actually think this, I actually, generally speaking, I think if you were to do a poll, I'd say Drew would probably come first in most rankings. It's because I'm off the market. It adds to the appeal. But I think they're having seen on the ladies of KSR page and other things.
Starting point is 00:47:24 I think there are Drew people. I think there are Shannon people. I think there are Matt people. And I think there are Mario's swelling. I think there are, no, I mean that. I think that those four can go in a lot of different rankings. I think Billy's a certain fit. And I'm a certain six.
Starting point is 00:47:42 And Drew and Ryan is a certain six. Yes. But Ryan has his people. No. No. Ryan doesn't. Ryan, we love you. I love you.
Starting point is 00:47:53 First of all, the third. thing that the reason you would rise up the rankings is because you'll say that. Oh, okay. Like, that's why people would love you. But you're right. There is a swelling contingent of ladies that are all about cute little Mario. No, there is, the other four would have their packs. Yes.
Starting point is 00:48:11 And Mario's pack is growing. Shannon has the rocker chick pack. Right? It's not a bad pack to have. Matt has the, I like, successful men pack. and then Drew has the chiseled beard So like those It's like it's like a baseball cards
Starting point is 00:48:32 And then and then Ryan is the bubble gum Yeah That comes with the baseball cards I think we should put out a calendar We should do a calendar Max Duffy has a pack too But it's not on here a lot We can't see with the accent
Starting point is 00:48:48 Max has the accent pack No doubt So like there's a lot of packs We have a lot of variety. Yes. A little something for everyone. And Ryan is for all. I'm glad you made me the bubble gum.
Starting point is 00:48:59 I thought you'd make me the rapper. I'd take the bubble gum over the rapper. Who's up in that? Oh, first of all, I've got to do this. Draft Kings. Game tonight. Remember, they have Bet 5. You get $250.
Starting point is 00:49:12 So if you haven't signed up yet, now through Sunday is that deal. Promo COCSR. It's the best deal they do all year. So if you've never signed up, use the co-KSR, bet five, get $250. in bonus bets. It's crazy. Tonight, Kansas City is a three-point favorite against Baltimore. Who you got against the spread? Kansas City and Baltimore, Drew? I'm expecting a great game. I'm going to take Kansas City just because it's at Arrowhead and the Chiefs of the Chiefs, but I'm expecting it to be very close.
Starting point is 00:49:40 There's a time the home team won this game every time, but in the last couple years, the road team has pulled off upsets. I think New England lost once at home. I think the lines maybe beat Kansas City last year. I could be wrong, but I'm taking Kansas City to cover as well. What about you? Yeah, because like Drew said, it's at home. Lamar may be the best player on the field. He may be the star tonight, but Kansas City will win the game. What about you, Shane? I'm taking the Ravens and the three.
Starting point is 00:50:02 Taking the Ravens. All right, so Shannon takes the Ravens. Three of us are going to take the Chiefs, and that's your pick of the night from Draft Kings. Who's next? Grassy Creek. Grassie Creek. How are you? Boys, I'm doing the best. I appreciate you. I appreciate you. Taking my call. I love you, boys. I'm glad Ryan's feeling better, and
Starting point is 00:50:20 I say this with love. And it's Like when folks from the hills moved, Ohio, and come back to visit, you've been a little. Stop. First of all, I'm from the hills. Ryan's not. All right. So, Ryan's from Indiana. I need you to remember that.
Starting point is 00:50:38 And Ryan is my brother that I like to give a hard time about. But when it comes to, but there's nobody who would do more for me and vice versa than Ryan living. So, I mean, I appreciate you, and I appreciate you listening. I love you too. But Ryan and I, our relationship, when people comment, on it. They don't know the stuff that happens behind the scenes with Ryan and I on a day-to-day basis. All right. I appreciate that. I trust you on that. This is a show. This is a radio show.
Starting point is 00:51:11 This is an entertainment show. The version of me and Ryan, we are ourselves, but I don't interact with Ryan every day giving him a hard time. This is a radio show, and we've both been through a lot of hard things, and we've both been through them together. Same with Drew, same with Shannon, and same with Mario and Billy as it is growing. That's why we love you, boys. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. I mean, remember, how many shows go 15 years and there's been no personnel changes? Good point, yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:42 You know, I mean that. I was talking about that with KSR the website. Think about how long KSR the websites happen. How many personnel changes? Do you know any media organization that has had less personnel changes than we've had? No. In this business, people usually change in one or two years. There's turnover. Yeah. So we are good to our people. What were you going to say? I'm going to disagree with the color. I think European mat has been a good match since you got back from your tour.
Starting point is 00:52:13 Now, maybe UK didn't agree with you doing with you yesterday. Well, listen, you can do stuff to me, but you can't do stuff to my people, right? So you're standing up for your people? So when Mario didn't get credentialed, it made me mad. And yes, I did get upset because UK, not just UK, everyone should encourage a 24-year-old young kid that's as eager as he is. He should be encouraged for the job, not discouraged. One of the things I hated when I started was that the other media tried to keep me and Drew from succeeding. And I said, when I'm old, I'm not doing that.
Starting point is 00:52:50 I'm going to encourage the younger people. and I was just suggesting that everybody else should have the same view. And everybody else should also get Shady rays. Good transition. Great transition. Perfect transition. Shady rays sunglasses. Stop overpaying for your sunglasses.
Starting point is 00:53:05 Shady rays are perfect. You wear them. They have protection. They won't get stuck in your hair. They can use polarized shades for every activity. Premium polarized shades from Shady rays. They got the best protection program in the industry, and they are great. I now wear them everywhere.
Starting point is 00:53:22 them all over Europe, lost like six pairs across the country. It is shady rays.com and a store in Lexington and Louisville. Jasper Johnson decisions at 2.30. We'll be live there. Ravens Chiefs tonight at the bar, 100% profit boost. NIL, so much. And tomorrow at Kentucky branded in Louisville. I want to see the Louisville.
