Starting point is 00:02:13 The story I told myself can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. Welcome, everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio here live. Actually, I can't sit. You sit. We'll stand.
Starting point is 00:02:52 We'll let Ryan sit. Here at Kentucky branded, we are here on a beautiful day in Louisville, Kentucky. Is this a new Kentucky branded, right? Just open a month ago. Just open a month ago here on 4600 Shelbyville Road. And let me hear this Kentucky crowd in Louisville today. How about this? A massive crowd here, as always, whenever we gather in Louisville.
Starting point is 00:03:18 You can give shout to the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, 859-2-8027. A-A-Visian Autoglass Text Machine is 772-7754 in this edition. Sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office. We call T.J. He'll make them pay. We got a full house. I got Drew. I got Ryan. I got Shannon.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Mario's here. Billy is here as well. It's awesome to see all these folks here before riding the big game against South Carolina. We all love, love, love doing shows over here in Louisville. Because these fans fight the good fight every single day, every minute of every day gets a Louisville fan. They never disappoint. They always show up. They're always enthusiastic.
Starting point is 00:03:52 I love it. And there's never a time we come to Louisville that we don't outdraw any crowd that could possibly be for a Louisville show. And I always appreciate that. So we're out here. Kentucky branded used to be out here, didn't it? Yes, it used to be, I'm right about that. No, yes. It was.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Yes, it was something else. Yeah. It was the thing before. Yes. Okay, so it was the thing. Yes, there was a store like this out here. And now it's back on 4600 Shelbyville Road. Some people were saying yes, and then some people know.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Different name. But it was out here. and now you got, here's what I like, Drew, even though there's Kentucky and Louisville gear, they're trying to make it half and half, but I see more Kentucky gear, probably because you sell more of it even in Louisville. I'm just going to be real about it if we're looking at it. Yeah, they put it up at kind of the front, like sale items, hoping someone will buy it when they're checking out with their Kentucky things.
Starting point is 00:04:50 Yeah, it's like a clearance sale over there on the Louisville stuff. I like that, what is this, the third show in Louisville in a month? Yes, we've been here semi-frequently lately. That's right. Now, listen, all of you folks at home. This is for people in the store, but this is also for you at home until the end of the day. Is that right? No one knows.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Let's just say until the end of the day. Kentucky branded.com, you can get buy one, get one free t-shirts and sweatshirts. So for the start of the season, and if you're here in the store, it's the same way. Buy one, get one free. Kentucky shirts, KSR shirts at kentuckybranded.com. Feels like a pretty good deal, Shadden. A great deal. So come on out here.
Starting point is 00:05:29 And like you said, go to Kentuckybranded.com. We got Penn Station coming out later on for lunch. Penn Station is bringing lunch, and they're bringing Taylor Bell soft-serve ice cream for everybody here at 1030. That's the famous Rupparina ice cream. They're going to bring the Rupperina ice cream to Louisville. So if you're in Louisville and you're always like, what are they talking about with the Rupperina ice cream? You will get to taste it here at 1030. They're now serving it at Kroger Field.
Starting point is 00:05:53 That's why they're bringing it. I need to taste it. I need to give it a second opinion. You know, we've talked about it before. You've talked about it. Well, you have two now. No, I've always said it was good. I said I didn't understand the line.
Starting point is 00:06:05 But today, you will probably see why the line is here because all these folks are going to be here. Now, we're having problems. Shockingly, there's technical difficulties with Iheart with KSR. The Lexington affiliate is screwing up, but you can hear it on 790. Obviously, if you're listening in Lexington, you're not even hearing me say that. But in theory, you could tell people that they can go to 790. Hopefully, LAP will be fixed. There's a lot going on.
Starting point is 00:06:33 So, Kentucky plays South Carolina tomorrow. But I do think we should probably start with the biggest news, which was the Jasper Johnson commitment to Kentucky yesterday. So I want to break this down at two parts. One is the actual commitment, and then two is the ceremony, which I went to my first ceremony since Derek Willis at Bullitt East. We'll start with the commitment. Massive get for Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:07:01 By some rankings, as high as 12th in the country, top 25 pretty much everywhere. I went back in terms of players from the state of Kentucky. He might be the highest Drew since what? Scotty Hopson. Yeah, I mean, you're looking. I mean, maybe DeAngelo Russell, although he didn't play high school basketball here, but neither is a Jasper now. So, probably since DeAngelo Russell is the last time they've had a play.
Starting point is 00:07:28 player ranked this high. He's ranked higher than Reed Shepard was. To get the kid, first all, it's cool to have a guy like that in the state. They have now had two consensus top 30 to 40 kids in state of Kentucky. First time that's probably happened since the 80s, and they keep them both in the state. I think both of them would not have played here if it was Cal. I don't think Cal would have ended up recruiting either of them hard. And then I think there's a, I thought there was a decent chance they wouldn't get any of them five months ago, big time for Mark Pope to keep them both in state. Yeah, Cal or one of the assistants offered after Johnson's sophomore year, but they weren't really as aggressive as Alabama had been. Alabama was all over
Starting point is 00:08:10 them for a long time. That's why they were considered a leader up until the final stretch, but Mark Pope met with them a few weeks before the decision date. I had some help from some boosters who stepped up, as we've alluded to a few times. Really, Kentucky went from running second, maybe and third to pull a little, you know, crossing the finish line at the last second, getting first place. So it was a late push that got it done. And as you said, it wouldn't have happened without the change in the coach and then what they did in the last month or two. I think you could look at there's a famous play from when the heat were the three really good players, where Bosch gets the rebound, dribbles to half court, throws it to, what is it,
Starting point is 00:08:48 Dwayne Wade, who then takes it back and gives it to LeBron who dunks it. I would reenact that. and say Vince Mero got the rebound and dribbled to half court, threw it ahead to Joe Kraft, who then bounced it back to Mark Pope for the slam dunk. I think that's probably how it ended up happening. We need AI to make that video for you. Yeah, I mean, literally, if somebody wants to make the video of Vince, Vince is Chris Bosch, Joe Kraft is Dwayne Wade, and then Mark Pope is LeBron, I think that would be the best way to understand how that happened.
Starting point is 00:09:23 I think it's worth repeating telling this story, because Kentucky had a lot of ground to make up with both Malachi and Jasper Johnson, and without that happening, when you just said, it wasn't going to happen. So now that it's over, let's talk about it. I don't know what happened with Malachi. I was in Europe, so I didn't really, I didn't get to follow that. But Alabama was probably going to get Jasper John. I mean, I think that's probably the case.
Starting point is 00:09:49 And Kentucky, I think, stepped up their Nile offer, but I think the bridge that got put that got Pope from, man, I like that guy, but Alabama's been going a long time, to I'm going to Kentucky, is Vince Merrill one evening, had the conversation, I think, with them. Wasn't long after that, you heard me say that I thought they were going to, Kentucky had a good shot. That's why I believe he should be head of recruiting for all sports.
Starting point is 00:10:22 at some point, Shannon. Yeah. Because, I mean, the thing is he does that in other things. But the reason was, and Ryan, you could probably go out. There was, I don't want to say animosity, but there's always been some tension with UK. Wouldn't you agree with that family after a while? You could probably beat more on it than I can. I mean, we can talk about it.
Starting point is 00:10:42 Elvis Johnson, the way he was kind of how that ended, his career ended at Kentucky. It did leave some hard feelings between the university and the Johnson family, a very prominent family, not just in Haretsburg, but in this state of Kentucky. And then when Cal didn't recruit the guy after the whole country was offering, I think that only made it worse. So Mark Pope was coming in with some headwinds, right? Headwinds of a they really like the Alabama staff. Alabama had been on them early.
Starting point is 00:11:08 North Carolina had offered an in-state Kentucky kid before Kentucky had. So I think Pope came in running a distinct third. Pope, to his credit, got up there to where he was kind of third but coming down the backstretch. And then I think, you know, Vince was able to get with the family. They loved Vince Morrow. And then Mark was able to seal the deal. And Drew, you end up with what you got. Is that any coincidence of Vince's news today with announced a raise for Vince Mero 24 hours after Jasper J.
Starting point is 00:11:40 Oh, I didn't see that. Yeah, Vince got a raise this morning. I did not see that. Is that right? That $1.3 million for me. He's making $1.3 million. Wow. I love the timing of it.
Starting point is 00:11:51 They said it in the side before yesterday, but, you know, announcing it the day after he helped out. I did not. 1.3 million, my man. Well, first of all, your extension. I'm going to say, he deserves it. Worth every penny. He's the highest paid tight-in coach in the country for a reason. But.
Starting point is 00:12:07 1.3. That's a big tight-ins coach. Wow, that's got to be. I bet he's one of the five highest-paid position coaches in the country. But it would have to be. Maybe. You were exactly right. And he's probably top 20 coordinator salaries, wouldn't you think?
Starting point is 00:12:23 Yeah. I'm with you. Just make him the head of recruiting for every sport at Kentucky. I didn't know that. Sounds like they kind of did. Congrats to Vince. He deserves it. All right.
Starting point is 00:12:31 So that happens. Now, we got to talk about for a second that ceremony. Loved it. Because I sat there with Drew. Like I said, I haven't been to a ceremony since 2011. And it was real. I mean, it was cool. They had a DJ.
Starting point is 00:12:48 When have you ever heard of being a DJ at a commitment ceremony? And there was a guy back in the back on the ones and twos, right? Shannon, he's out there. It's a first for me. Music is rocking. They bring the students in. Then somebody reminded me he didn't even go to school there. The entire student body was there.
Starting point is 00:13:05 The entire student body came. He used to go to school there. He doesn't go to school there now. As I watched it, first of all, let me be clear. I think it's positive. Like, I'm not going to be. be the guy going, this is all, the world is ending, it's negative. Get your money.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Like, I'm good with it. Some of these kids, you never know. Like, think about the kids we've had over the years that thought they were going to make a lot of money and didn't. Like scowl of BCA, et cetera. And they got a whole life ahead of them. And the thing that was their biggest talent, if it doesn't work out. So I'm for it. But I will say, as I watched that ceremony, I thought to myself, this is the new error.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Okay, this is the new error. Like, everybody's going to have to change their mindset on what things are because this is the new air. My man had a backdrop that said Morgan and Morgan and Paul Miller Ford. I was watching WWROWS. They were sponsored by Morgan and Morgan. So was Jasper Johnson. Paul Miller Ford. He rips his coat off.
Starting point is 00:14:08 I thought it'd be a Kentucky jersey. It was a Morgan and Morgan and Morgan. More Morgan and Morgan. More Morgan and Morgan. You can never have too much more. And right before he got it, he gets on the phone and goes, uh, hello? And he's calling a Donato's pizza. Which got delivered.
Starting point is 00:14:26 And they come and deliver him with Donato's pizza. Yeah. He was like he was a NASCAR driver. I mean, it was. It was like he was, I'd like to think, I'd like to think FedEx and for all their support. I sat there and thought to myself with the DJ and with the crowd and everybody had T-shirts with his face on it. and there were like who's who of UK basketball people everywhere.
Starting point is 00:14:51 I thought, Drew, this to me is an example of when John Wall committed and I said UK basketball is different. This is an example of college sports are different now. And I don't think it's for the worst. Some people do. I don't. But it is different. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:12 I mean, he was kind of like Ricky Bob. be up there thinking his sponsors in Tadaga nights and I would have done the exact same thing at one point somebody even reminds him hey unzip your jacket show that Morgan a Morgan T-shirt knowing they had all these obligations to fulfill but hey if people are going to make you that offer I would take it too
Starting point is 00:15:28 that has to be the first commitment made with a pizza box I don't maybe there's a I thought he was going to open it and there was going to be like a UK pizza and then I was going to go all right that's awesome just to be clear if I call Donato's they're going to deliver a pizza not a jersey right in that box like that's not they gave it no it was a pizza they brought
Starting point is 00:15:44 an actual pizza. I saw the guy walk in with two pizzas in the Donato shirt. He was standing just out of the screen where they were filming. And I actually thought the dude was trying to deliver pizzas and interrupt the ceremony. Like, someone get this guy out of here before he interrupts this. It's also interesting to see, Ryan, you know, we've talked over the years. Okay, Arkansas has Tyson Foods, right? And Memphis has FedEx. Well, it looks like Kentucky's corporate sponsor is going to be Morgan and Morgan, it looks like. Yeah, even for football. We see a lot of Morgan and Morgan billboards up and a lot of advertisement at Croger Field. I know a lot of people when they saw that yesterday, they probably thought, man, that's a lot.
Starting point is 00:16:22 But like you said, I think that's just cracking the door open to seeing what the future looks like. This is the future. And I think I will remember that ceremony as my official, oh yeah, this is a different era kind of thing. But for the basketball, great get for Kentucky. They're going to have two of the top 40 guys, both in state, both with face. families that have had long traditions in state. And as somebody came up to me yesterday and said, Matt, when's the last time Kentucky's had four guys from the state of Kentucky on a roster
Starting point is 00:16:56 and would play? Unforgettable, probably the last time. And there's a very good chance that next year, Kentucky will have four guys playing on the roster from Kentucky. And I think that probably makes most of the state very happy. From all parts of Kentucky, too. Just think about that. You're going to have a roster next.
Starting point is 00:17:14 year where there's a player from eastern Kentucky, there's a player from Western Kentucky, there's a player from the Greater Lexington Metro area, and there's a player, or two players from the Greater Lexington Metro area. Got to get one from Louisville, too. But it is going to be a very commonwealth roster next year for the Wildcats. We'll take a break and be right back. We are here at Kentucky Branden. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in.

Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
Starting point is 00:19:05 because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Starting point is 00:19:31 What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win, no matter. what? He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows, without Luca and Austin
Starting point is 00:19:50 Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he
Starting point is 00:20:06 has to give us everything he gives us on the night to night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stopped by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Starting point is 00:20:21 Like, after you go through a training camp with that, I said, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show,
Starting point is 00:20:38 I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being. an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. The story I've told. myself about love or relationships can then shape my behavior and that can lead me to sabotage the

Starting point is 00:21:53 but we actually need people in connection. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole, this podcast is for you. To hear more, listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:22:09 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. By the way, we are here at Kentucky Brandon in Louisville. When you walk in, you can sign up. We're giving away some gift cards and a lot more. I didn't realize we're giving away two tickets to the South Carolina game. Plus a parking pass.
Starting point is 00:22:32 And a parking pass. Whoa, that's the gold right there. So two tickets to UK, South Carolina, and a parking pass will be given away at the end of this show. So make sure, I guess you scan something and then you put your name in and then they tickle you or something. and then you end up. No, they don't tickle you. You just get a QR code and you sign up that way. There's no tickle.
Starting point is 00:22:51 No. Maybe if you ask, they might, but I taught everyone. Did you see, Shannon, I put up a TikTok video yesterday. Oh, really? Your first one? Yeah. It was just me asking for help with TikTok. But nevertheless, I did the video.
Starting point is 00:23:06 Got like 6,000 views already. So I feel like I'm also, I'm a TikTok star now. You are a TikTok official. It's only a matter of time before you're going to be like this big influencer on TikTok. No doubt. I'm going to be dancing. Thank you to all the people, by the way. So after the show yesterday, Ryan, I decided I put a little video up and I was like,
Starting point is 00:23:24 if you have a student ID, come to KS Bar, I will pay 30% of your bill. And I just wanted to see if it would work. Well, let me tell you, students will take free stuff. They came and filled the place up and the bill was a little more than I thought it would be. But you know what, students? Thank you very much. And we had a great atmosphere. And what a game last time?
Starting point is 00:23:44 Yeah. How about that? How many of you stayed at them watch that Chiefs Ravens game last night? Comes down the final play. He makes a catch and his toe is on the line and he loses. Drew, what a first game to start the NFL season. No kidding. I mean, it was already just the teams they gave us for the first games.
Starting point is 00:24:01 Incredible. Loved having the NFL back and for it to end like that. I mean, that's about as close as you can be to being on the line. If they'd even called it the other way, I would have said, all right, I'm fine with it because it seemed he was right on it. I'm going to make fun of the card since we're in Louisville, but I do have to say this. He's not the best passer,
Starting point is 00:24:19 but Lamar's the best athletic quarterback I have ever seen in my life. Like Lamar, I've said this many times on this show. Mark Stoop said to me once privately. Remember, Mark Stoops coached the U when it was the U. He coached at Florida State when they won the national championship. Mark Stubes said to me, Lamar is the best player I've ever seen in college football. Wow.
Starting point is 00:24:41 And you can see it, man, Ryan. He missed a couple easy throws, but he did some things not anyone can do, including on the final play. He's so dynamic. Like, every time he touches the ball, he got a chance to do something special. And that's why that last play, even he kind of created it moving around and then found the guy in the end zone. I wish he didn't play at Louisville because I do think he's pretty amazing. All right, Kentucky and South Carolina tomorrow. Tucky has stabilized as a 10-point favorite.
Starting point is 00:25:11 Most important game of the year to me. I think we're going to win, but I also think. we got to win. It's going to be the game that I'm pacing throughout. Right? This is the game I get in the shower. I didn't apply for credentials because I ain't going to go. I don't want to be in that building. I want to be able to turn it off and walk upstairs if I need to. I'm nervous about it. Drew, should I be nervous about it? SEC game, you should always be a little nervous.
Starting point is 00:25:39 I'm actually nervous about how confident I am. I'm probably too confident. Okay. I think we're heading straight for. for an ass kicking and I'm looking forward to it. You mean us giving it? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, giving them the ass kicking. No, I would not look forward to Kentucky losing South Carolina.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Just their offense has a long way to go, and I don't think playing Kentucky's defense in Lexington for your first true road game is a great situation for sellers. So if Kentucky's offense can get in the low mid-20s, I think it's going to be a win. You think low 20s wins? I just barring turnovers. They lost last year at South Carolina because they had three, maybe even four, turnovers, turnovers with a story. As long as they don't hand it to South Carolina, protect the ball,
Starting point is 00:26:19 I think just lining up, South Carolina has got a long way to go to be as good as Kentucky. Brian, you're a vibe guy. You're around the vibes of the program. You feel what is going on. You feel good about tomorrow. I do feel good about tomorrow. Drew kind of hit it, man. Last year, three turnovers.
Starting point is 00:26:34 I only scored 14 points. I think these guys feel like they've got a lot to prove and a lot to make up for, especially the last two years playing this team. And maybe I'm like Drew. I feel a little more overconfident, maybe because we saw South Carolina right before the Kentucky game Saturday, and they looked awful. But for Kentucky to be a 10-point favorite, I think that's even low. You think that's low? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:55 There's the attitude. Wow. I like it. He's got that confidence. By the way, how's your jaw feeling a year later? Oh, that's right. Wait a minute. This is the game to get.
Starting point is 00:27:05 Get them back. You can get them back. I'm going to be standing outside Krogerfield just looking for the guy that popped me. Do you remember what he looks like? Never saw him. Never saw him. There's two things. First of all, you're still dealing with vertigo.
Starting point is 00:27:18 So I don't know that this is the time for you to go chasing people around and fighting them. You don't remember who popped you. Never saw him. I never saw the guy. So, yeah, I have no idea who it was. But if he's there, I'm going after him. Somebody points him out, I'm on him. Could this vertigo be a lingering symptom that's coming up because he feels South Carolina's around the corner?
Starting point is 00:27:38 Could be connected to that head injury? I think you should just walk around and hit every South Carolina. Carolina fan until you're okay with that. We go up and just start popping people. No, we don't want to do that. We're not advocating that. If you look at their schedule, I think it is very hard to see them making a bowl if they don't win this game. If you look at our schedule, we can still make a bowl without beating them, but it doesn't look as optimistic as it did before. I think without question, if you want Kentucky to have a year where we go into that game like,
Starting point is 00:28:13 at Texas and there's still something kind of cool to play for, or we go into the game at Tennessee, and we're hyped even though we usually get let down, you got to win this one. Because, I mean, chances are high we're going to lose next week. So you've got to win this one. Plus, the college game day piece. We haven't had college game day since 2007, right?
Starting point is 00:28:38 We haven't been on the national stage like that since 2007. We haven't played a game of national significance that the whole world is watching except Georgia a few years ago, and it was down there when they had game day. You can get that, Drew, if you win tonight. I don't know that we'll get game day. I think we would, but we don't know for sure. But we will be primetime ABC 2 and O with people saying, watch out Kentucky's here. Got to win tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:29:07 Yeah, you hate to put so much pressure on one game, especially in week two. but I think it's that important. This is always a swing game. At the end of every season, both South Carolina and Kentucky could kind of look like to win that head-to-head and that kind of puts you on the path to have a decent season. You lose this when a game you want to win every year, it really hurts you overall.
Starting point is 00:29:25 Last year, we played Missouri, we're up 14 to nothing, we're driving with a chance to put them away. It flips. Missouri ends up winning nine games and wins it 10 games. That game changed it. Tomorrow's that game for us. We got to do it. We didn't do it last year.
Starting point is 00:29:43 We got to do it this year. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. There we go. Come on. First of all, let's try this again. We're in Louisville.
Starting point is 00:29:57 There's a game tomorrow. Welcome back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Nice. There we go. This does feel like because I was gone. This feels like the first. Okay, we're ready.
Starting point is 00:30:08 The season rolling here. I felt like that way Saturday at the bar before the game, but I feel like it today. Remember, we open the bar tomorrow at 10. We're opening early so that people can get in, get a seat, have the pregame show, so it's not so crowded right at 11. So we're opening at 10. Our pregame show tomorrow is at 11.30 a.m.
Starting point is 00:30:28 For those of you listening, shuttle starts running tomorrow at 1 p.m. 859-280 2287. One person writes, Matt, this is on the text machine. Why do you think game day is interested in coming in Lexington? I would understand if Kentucky is competitive against Georgia, but I'm confused to why they would come. Well, one of the ways I think why they're considering it is because UK has been told they're considering it.
Starting point is 00:30:53 They tell three or four schools in advance, we might come to your place, how would it look? And UK got that call last week. But then secondly, Drew, look at the other games. I mean, the only other game that's really got a marquee potential is Arkansas at Wisconsin. We need to see what Wisconsin does this week. But Arkansas at Wisconsin is really the only other game that you would look at and say,
Starting point is 00:31:18 yeah, now I could see them, excuse me, I said Arkansas, Alabama at Wisconsin. I could see them wanting to do Alabama at Wisconsin. Maybe that's what they do. But that game's at noon and is not on ESPN. So they would be leading directly into a game on a competitor network, I think it would make a lot, which is what they're doing this week with Michigan, I think it makes a lot more sense to come to Lexington and preview a game that's going to be on your networks later that night. Yeah, they've been to Wisconsin several times.
Starting point is 00:31:50 I know Kentucky's not really a national football power, but, you know, it's a fan base. They know will show up. They'll be excited about it. And I think the real key is what you said about. They don't want to just have you from 10 to 12 and then say, all right, go over to Fox, watch that game. They're going to want to keep it on their network. And it's a good chance to boost the SEC now that they have the new contract with that moving forward. Yeah, this would be the first, you know, the first total SEC game day.
Starting point is 00:32:16 This is the first SEC game. The winner is the first place of the conference. This is the first game. The first game with the injury reports required. I mean, there's a lot of first, Ryan, for this game. We talked about it all summer how important this game was. But if we can just dream for a minute, if you win this game this weekend and you are looking at game day coming in for Georgia, I mean, it's not crazy that Kentucky could not win that game against Georgia,
Starting point is 00:32:38 I think game day would want to be there. As long as they could be competitive, you know, keep it a game in the second half. I mean, let's slow down. You know, just a little bit. I mean, the last couple of games. Let's beat South Carolina before we talking about beating a team that's only lost to. Georgia in the last three years or four years, do you realize it's only lost to one team and that's Alabama? Wow.
Starting point is 00:33:00 That's the only team that's beat in Georgia in four seasons. So just keep that in mind before we see. I don't know how much they would. They would put stock into it. But if there was a great turnout for SEC Nation, and they're like, wow, if they showed up for SEC Nation, we know it would be even better for game day. You can go.
Starting point is 00:33:19 It's not like an SEC Nation hater. By the way, we have a person who came today who gave us freeze-dried nerd gummy clusters. I've had probably hundreds of you since I expressed my affinity for it, say you like these as well. If you would sell these, I would buy them. They're really good. Because the only bad part of a gummy cluster is having the gummy in your mouth. This is freeze-dried.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Did you like it? See, I'm not even a candy guy. You had me try one. I was surprised. It's so good, and it's like air. It's like cotton candy almost. It's like freeze-dried, yeah. Well, we got a whole bag of freeze-dried candy over here, so thank you very much.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Who's up next? Kentucky Joe is up next. Oh, why did you start? I mean, like, Rick, you said there are five callers. You lead with Kentucky Joe. Well, he's the one that's been on the long. I understand, but that's always the case. Let's hear some music.
Starting point is 00:34:11 All right, Joe. Go ahead. Well, yeah, it's going to be a song in a minute. No, but maybe. Probably not. All right. Go ahead. Hey, no, the thing about our UK football team, I haven't been on.
Starting point is 00:34:28 I've been sick. I wish I was there today. I'd say 10 and 2. 10 and 2. I think Mr. Dionne Walker is going to have a lot. big game today. All right. I'll give you 20 seconds of, I'll give you 20 seconds of a song.
Starting point is 00:34:43 Yeah. But you got, you got to go. I might just cut you off. Don't go ahead. Get to the chorus. Get to the chorus. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:52 All right. Here we go. It's called Dion Walker, the pork chop, man. Wait, wait a, Dion Walker, the pork chop man. Yes, I know. It's, oh, he needs more 20 seconds. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:04 All right, here we go. I get more than 20 seconds. No, just sing. You're already wasting the time. All right, all right. Here we go. It goes like this, of course. He's the porch of man.
Starting point is 00:35:17 It tries to be the best he can. He's a pork shop man. He tries to be the best he can. It lost to clean. It's played well at a Kentucky football training table so he can pull dolls. They'll see the old line and take the QB down. Deon Walker is truly the pork job man. He tries to be the best he can.
Starting point is 00:35:48 All right. Thank you very much, Joe. That's a B-side. Appreciate the call. The pork chop, man. Can ask you a question? Is there a reason? Again, I was gone all summer.
Starting point is 00:35:58 Is there any connection between Dionne Walker and pork chops? I think he's just assuming that he likes to eat a lot of pork chops. So he's just calling him the pork chop. Yeah. Let me just say something. Dion Walker 6.6.3.30. I ain't calling him the pork chop man unless he wants to be called the pork chop man. As someone who listens to a lot of Kentucky Joe, I've noticed, I think everyone's noticed.
Starting point is 00:36:18 Everything is, he's a something man. Everyone's a man in every song. And there's also a similar. He's a Willie Stein man. There's a similar rhythm, Shannon as a musician, to a lot of his songs. Yeah, we just need somebody to remix it maybe for us. And I think that could possibly be a hit with the right producer. Yeah, I had two different people write me in.
Starting point is 00:36:36 Saturday and say Kentucky Joe was just walking around the game, just going up to strangers and singing. Oh, yeah. It's kind of his move. He's kind of his move. Do you know who I am? That's when he said he wished he could be here. We're like, oh, no, that's good. That's good.
Starting point is 00:36:48 You're fine. Call in. Who's up next? Trave is up next. Trav. How are you, Trav? I'm doing pretty good, fellas. So, you all got some Taylor Bells there.
Starting point is 00:36:59 You all should come down to Lawrenceburg where Taylor Bell's got the actual restaurant where you get the ice cream, their hamburgers. Okay. Well, we don't need an ad. We don't need an ad. Go ahead. They're coming, so we're good. What else?
Starting point is 00:37:10 You can also pay a reflection, Mark, there's to a man's name who should be hung in the rafters of Rupery. It's Bill Kiley. All right. Well, it is. It is hung in the... Bill Kightly's name is in the rafters of Roperator. He's referencing the unpopular opinion.
Starting point is 00:37:27 We had that guy said it shouldn't be up there. Okay. Which was an outrageous take. Yeah, well, but I mean, it was unpopular opinion day. But Bill Kightley certainly should be there. I mean, when you talk about a lot of people talk about the Mount Rushmore, Kentucky, they put him on there. And he was an equipment manager because he deserves to be up there. South Carolina's defensive line, Drew, is their strength.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Our offensive line has, I don't know, maybe a weakness, maybe not. We still have to see. How do you feel like that's going to work? And do you think Brock Vandergriff, if he gets pressure, will be able to handle it? Did a pretty good job against Southern Miss that actually gave some pressure throughout the game, because Southern Misses' streak was a defensive line as well. Yeah, it's really not even their whole line. It's that freshman end who's playing like he should already be in the NFL,
Starting point is 00:38:13 even though he doesn't even look the part. He looks skinny, but he was still bulldozing through guys last week, and he's going up against Mincey who probably had the worst game on the offensive line. So that's a matchup, South Carolina or a one win to have any chance. I'm still confident in Kentucky. I think it all just goes with Kentucky's defense. If Kentucky could get some early points and make South Carolina have to throw, because they're going to want to run the ball a lot.
Starting point is 00:38:34 If they get behind and have to throw, It's lights out for South Carolina. You got to remember, South Carolina is playing a freshman quarterback. Freshman quarterback with goggles. It's a big detail. That's very important. You don't, when's, all right, name me the last quarterback you can remember that was great with goggles. I'm trying to think of any quarterback with goggles.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Exactly. They get weeded out even before they get to college. I will tell you, when I showed up at high school or middle school football and basketball tryouts. They didn't see my goggles and say that's a quarterback right there. They said that's a bench warmer. They said would you like to be a manager? Yeah. So I we, but
Starting point is 00:39:14 Drew's right, Ryan. If we can get ahead and make them throw, that kid's going to make mistakes if you do that. He just is. We saw him make mistakes sitting there in first game, you know, against Old Dominion. He was kind of struggling a little bit. Same thing, though. They were having to like play fast and he struggled.
Starting point is 00:39:29 So, you know, we talked about that this freshman defensive lineman they've got. I think Kentucky's going to have, they're going to put Josh Caddice there beside Mincy and try to almost double team this guy. I mean, they had that much of the big. Well, I don't know. Maybe. Sounds like it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:42 I didn't know if Caddus was going to play. So if he's going that far, look at Ry. Right. Right doesn't even know, like the rest of the world doesn't even know Josh Katas is playing and you know where he's lining up in the formation. I'd say maybe don't be surprised if you see Cadis there, you know, kind of clip that guy. Even with Vertigo.
Starting point is 00:39:58 That's right. Hey. He gets scoop. Stop overpaying for sunglasses. You can no reason to buy expensive sunglasses to lose or break them. I lost a number of pairs in Europe, but Shady Rays is right there, and you could get them. And they have the best shades for every activity, from their tangle-free aviators to the crisp sun. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 00:42:42 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall.
Starting point is 00:43:03 And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.

Starting point is 00:43:57 What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clipper Show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down. Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. We were just talking about their quarterback has goggles. Who are the best athletes of all time with goggles? I'll give you the list that immediately comes to mind. Probably the best athlete of all time that wore goggles is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. I would say he, then I would go Eric Dickerson, was a really good running back with goggles.
Starting point is 00:45:47 Chris Sable, their former Reds baseball player was really good with goggles. And who else? Horse Grant. My goat. Here, a lot of people don't know, if you don't know. if you don't know how to do it. It's fine. A lot of people don't know this about Drew.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Old school folks, though, but I found Drew not from KSR. Drew was a student at UK writing a blog that was named. Horace Grant halftime report. The Horace Grant halftime report. Why did you name it that? NBA jam the video game. It had like crappy graphics,
Starting point is 00:46:18 and it was Horace Grant dunking, no matter what teams you played with. And it just, I don't know. I think I'd been playing it when we made the site, and there it was. So I hired him from the Horace Grant half-time report to KSR. I have his Bulls jersey in my office.
Starting point is 00:46:31 So that has to make the list. So that's a pretty good for some. Anybody else you can think of? Kenny Walker. Kenny, yeah. Did Kenny wear it his whole career just when he got his eye hurt? I only did war in Kentucky that one whole season, right? They're pretty common way back.
Starting point is 00:46:46 Hakeem Elijah won him for a long time. What about James Worthy? I think Wartham. I think he did. That's right. Good about James Worthy. Your boy, Larry. Kurt Rammis.
Starting point is 00:46:55 Larry Blurred. Kurt Rambus? Yeah, Larry Blurred, Robbie Avila, who's playing at St. Louis this year. Pantella Zidius from the clapper. Dude from DePaul. Boy, there's a memory. Did Kurt Rambus just wear, like, actual black, gray glasses? No, Kurt Rambus just wore glasses.
Starting point is 00:47:15 Like, they weren't even tied. He just wore, like, regular glasses on the field. Well, if you have anybody else, let me know. Dion Walker had him for a little bit. Yes, he did. I want to, just a quick thing. I'm not, if you don't have anything to do tonight, tonight is a, there's, at the Burrell, is a, is a group playing that I saw play 10 years ago. And it's a guy, Keller Williams is the name. He's like a, he's like a bluegrass musician.
Starting point is 00:47:42 But here's what you would like, Ryan. They, it's a bluegrass band, and they get together and they only play, they get together twice a year, and they only play Tom Petty songs. And they call it Petty Grass. And they take Tom Petty songs, and they play them like with a bluegrass. Bluegrass style, and they're doing one of their twice a year appearances tonight in Lexington at the Burrell. I'm going to dinner with my parents for my birthday, but then after, I'm going to try to go by and see some of it. Highly recommend if you don't have anything to do tonight. It's called Keller William.
Starting point is 00:48:12 It's called Petty Grass. You know, I remember you talking about this, like you said, 10 years ago. I went and saw Tyler in, like, Cumberland, Maryland 11 years ago, and they opened for him. And it was awesome. I remember you talking about how wonderful you thought it was. So it's kind of cool. So they're coming back. They only do it. It's like a group of musicians.
Starting point is 00:48:29 They get together twice a year, and they come together to do this twice a year, and they're doing it tonight in Lexington at the Burrell. So just wanted to throw that out there. Who's up next? Aaron is up next. Aaron, go ahead, Aaron. Hey, Matt. How is you?
Starting point is 00:48:44 It was great. Thank you very much. I appreciate a lot of people have been asking me since I got back, and I had an amazing experience. I highly recommend if you ever get a chance to go to any of those places, you ought to do it. But go ahead. Well, I'm glad you're back. Okay, so I have a story for you.
Starting point is 00:49:00 It's a funny one. My friend at his work, a customer came in and was like, hey, I had two free tickets to the Georgia-Kentucky football game. Front row. You can have them. Front row? Wow. Yeah, and he was like, okay, I'll take him.
Starting point is 00:49:15 So he texted our friend group chat, and he was like, hey, I have two tickets. I'm not going to go. Who wants them? So our buddy Preston was like, oh, heck yeah, I want them. Give them to me him. I'll take Ryan. Me and Ryan will go. And so Preston got all excited and thought Ryan.
Starting point is 00:49:35 How many people got these tickets? Where are we going with it? So he texted back 10 minutes later and was like, just kidding. I'm taking my girlfriend. Ryan who? The guy who got the tickets from his work, Dylan. Dylan got these tickets. Text on a group chat.
Starting point is 00:49:53 I'll have a couple followed it. So Dylan gave him to Preston, who was going to give him Bruce Ryan, who then was going to take his girlfriend. Sounds like y'all's just going to table at a restaurant and all go together. If you wanted, I could have just saved you a text at the bar. Well, listen, Preston, Dylan, Ryan, Sammy, Frankie. I hope they all have an amazing time at the game, and I appreciate the call. There you go.
Starting point is 00:50:20 I guess he's saying he invited his friends. They claimed them. Then he was like, never mind, I'm taking the girlfriend. Oh, okay. Kind of breaking brocode is what I got out of it there. Well, that would have been a good logic problem at my dork camp last week, trying to figure out who ended up with the tickets. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:50:35 Who's next? Babbo is up next. Dabo. How are you, Dabo? No, it's Babbo. Don't put that stink on me with Dabo. Okay. I like it.
Starting point is 00:50:47 You're like, don't call me Dabo. I have a proper name. like babbo. Yes, that's what my grandkids call me. The reason I'm calling that, my daughter is in labor. She is listening to the show at the hospital right now, which is my son-in-law, Josh, and my wife. Deep breath.
Starting point is 00:51:06 And we got a problem here, and I need some help. Oh, well, first of all, I'm not licensed to help with the birth, but I will do whatever I can. We need, they have, they don't know what they're. having. They're not than people that do all those. Hopefully, baby. We don't, they don't know what they're having. They've got a girl's name, but we do not have a boy's name.
Starting point is 00:51:29 Oh, wow. And I would hope to know what your grandpa's names were. If you got a few four guys could do that. We need suggestions. So you want to know what our grandfather's names were? Yes, they're looking for a unique name. Interesting. Okay, so my grandfather that was alive during my life was a very unique name.
Starting point is 00:51:50 name, E-L-E-L-I-S-H-A. E-L-I-S-H-A. That is kind of a unique, a newtname. Not Elijah, Elijah. What about you? Okay. I had a Thomas, and one you're going to like, a Merle. A Merle! Not many Murals around anymore. I like that. Bring Merle back. By the way, I was almost named. If you want the name that I was almost named, Hampton was almost Hampton. I was almost Hampton. I don't think my career would have been as good if I was like, it's Hampton Jones here at Kentucky. That's sports radio. Yeah, that is. That's Old Miss fraternity sports radio. What was your grandfather's name?
